Hi there, I want to make this a teaching moment because I think I understand what you were trying to say, but there is a disconnect between your intentions and the way you have come across. So first: thank you, and I'm glad you enjoy my blog!

Now on to the learning opportunity. Maybe you've read my bio, and maybe you haven't. But I am Jewish, and I'm pretty open about that on this blog. Goblincore is a whole thing. I get it. I personally choose not to engage with it, but I know there's a thriving community on tumblr, and that not all goblinecore is necessarily antisemitic.

That being said: please try to avoid calling Jewish people goblins. There is a long history of using goblins as antisemitic caricatures for Jewish people. Especially with the antisemitism flavored goblins that are getting a lot of publicity through JKR's new Harry Potter video game, I had an uncomfortable reaction to seeing this in my inbox.

Also, for what it's worth, Judaism has a very different relationship with sin/penitence than Christianity. I don't think I would ever describe myself as a penitent because that is a very Christian construct. I certainly repent for things, but I am not a penitent. This is also not how I engage with archaeology—yes, my discipline has things we need to atone for, and I am doing my best to further that process, but I'm also a firm believer in the positive aspects of archaeology and its power to tell stories of the past.

So again, I thank you for your sentiment, and I don't mean this to come across as angry or chiding. But I also wanted to take this opportunity to explain some of the nuances behind the wording of this ask.

So while doing con prep (mainly while waiting for things to print) I have been practicing my hand at learning to crochet. Something my mother can do and I have always wanted to learn. This is my third practice square and I'm quite happy with it....I think I'm going to jump in and start making squares for a patchwork jacket! (It will be very forest-y themed)

current list of things that would at least to some extent fix me:

- crucifixion (gotta stretch out that spine you know)

- stretching rack (see above)

- pressing (as in the torture where they crush you between two stones, i just think the weight would be very comforting)

- lobotomy (gotta let some of the crazed energy out of my brain)

- hug from a manta ray (actually most sea creatures could fix me with a hug honestly)

- becoming a bog body, alternatively lying face down in a cranberry bog, or just becoming one with some moss (just think that would be nice you know, get rid of a lot of the human related angst)

-meds (idk i just have a sneaking suspicion)

I’ve got a knitting pattern for a sweater that has these lil guys around the yoke, so I knit up a swatch to test out needle sizes. I think I’ll use smaller needles than this, but I’m very excited about the idea of owning a sweater with bugs going around the neck!

A videogame where you have no other obligation except to collect things like rocks etc. in a forest to trade them w a merchant and obtain shiny treasures. You would have assigned trinkets to collect in exchange for certain types of treasures, and as you progress you unlock new areas and keep some specific finds in your collection. The goal would be mostly to explore nature and collect treasures that interest you and the game would be casual goblinecore, made just for winding down!

Now that I’m an adult (debatable) I want to get goblinecore and cottagecore clothes and really go for it. Except cottagecore for guys is like, dapper, tweeds, button downs. For ladies it looks like, way more versatile. Idk what goblincore even would be. Just cottagecore but with shiny things? I’ve been living in sweats and t shirts for ages , I thought this schlubby look was gonlincore, dressed down ofc.

Sound very similar to Labyrinth! Published just several years before Labyrinth.

I was researching Maurice Sendak because my son adores Little Bear (me too!) and this book caught my eye. A young girl must save her baby sister, who was stolen by goblins, before the baby sister is forced to be a goblin wife! Quite creepy. Many of the reviews on Amazon mention this as well. Thought it was neat and wanted to share!

EDIT: Apparently this book is on Sarah’s shelves?! I have got to do a rewatch!!
