9am, 24 Dec 2022
+4 F / -15 C, winds from the SW at 11 mph. 50 F at noon yesterday, then the temperature dropped and the snow started about 3:30 pm. About 4 -6 inches by the time it stopped around 9pm last night. We were spared the really powerful part of the storm, and of course the 4 feet of lake effect snow predicted for Buffalo will not reach this far east.

Finding out different celebs are all related or close friends or next door neighbors is simultaneously bizarre and comforting. like, "oh yeah, big name actor was basically our uncle and their kids were like our cousins" and that's just normal life
(from left: Goldie Hawn, Don Johnson, Melanie Griffith, Kate Hudson, Kurt Russell, and down in front Wyatt Russell)

View of an advertising card for J.L. Hudson, depicting a winter scene with a bird and a house. Printed on back: "I sell more clothing at retail than any other retailer in the world. J.L. Hudson. It is said that no man is experienced until he reaches the age of forty, but lots of us kicked at an old hat on the sidewalk to find a stone under it before we had chin-whiskers, we never did it but once, though. Same to you. Our thanks to the many people who have become patrons from having been directed to the store through one of these handsome cards and we hope not only to keep their custom, but to increase the number. Those who have come have found the very best goods, the very lowest prices and prompt and courteous attendance. Those who haven't can feel assured of it when they pay us a visit. Hudson, the leading retail clothing house of America."

"The Fastest Vehicles on Earth": Hudson River Ice Yachts
"The Fastest Vehicles on Earth": Hudson River Ice Yachts
Join Robert Wills of the Hudson River Ice Yacht Preservation Trust as he discusses the little-known history of ice yachting on the Hudson River -- from a utilitarian 17th century Dutch tradition, to the Hudson Valley Roosevelts and the storied races of the late 1800s, to the present day. Three historic ice yachts, once "the fastest vehicles on earth," were displayed in the Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home in 2023/24.
