Climbing and cloudless, the sun beared down on the sapphire English Channel below. Its roaring waves lapped against the shore of one of France's many serene and far-reaching beaches, washing in bits of seaweed and sea life with its eddies and tides. A trio of gulls circled above one area of the shore, letting out their shrill call in agitated excitement, while making mock dives for the prize they had their beady eyes on.
You, out on an early morning, seaside walk, lifted your hand against the shining sun, to study the sea birds. Interested in what they were so adamant about, but also felt cautious, as you approached. Since times were not the best to find surprises on the beach. Especially not here, along the Channel. But you couldn't stop your curiosity, and edged ever closer to the birds and their would-be meal. The nearer you got, the more you felt a growing alarm, seeing the foamy, salt water tinged with something red.
You froze, horrified to see the water rushing by your bare feet. Realizing it was blood. Following the tentacles of blood a few meters up the beach, you found the shock of a lifetime.
Startling back with a yelp, you tripped over the wet hem of your skirt and tumbled backwards, falling hard and knocking some of the air out of your lungs. Eyes fixed on a limp hand gently floating in the water, the skin of the finger-pads wrinkled from long water exposure. But it was the man attached to the arm that alarmed you, his thickly bearded face turned to one side and rocking to the ebb and flow of the water he laid half submerged in, a wound somewhere on his person seeping out around him.
You were sure he had to be dead, why else would he wash ashore in the freezing Channel water. You had only been sitting in it for a few, short minutes and were already shivering, while he only stirred because of the current.
Poor man. You thought, your brow pinching with heartfelt sympathy for him and whoever his family was.
Finally getting to your feet, you twisted some of the water out of your skirt, frowning to see some of his blood had soaked into the rough fabric. But there was no help for that. You knew you'd have to return to the village and inform the authorities of him. So they could retrieve his body. Especially before the village kids found him. The evil little rascals. They enjoyed poking at anything dead that washed ashore. You'd seen them pestering a poor seal corpse just last week. But you also knew, you should actually make sure he was deceased, before running off to inform Director General Trottier about him. You just needed to find the courage to draw closer and touch him.
To hold a hand against his nose, in search of any breath.
“Perhaps I should just go get the authorities to do this?” You mumbled to yourself, wringing your hands anxiously. “They have the experience.” You tried to reason, looking over your shoulder towards the village. “But what if he is still alive.” You said, looking back at him. “And he dies, while I run back for help.”
“Christ, why did you have to wash up here?” You huffed, a rush of frustrated confidence flooding you.
You waded to him and bent, bringing your dripping hand up to his nose and held still for a long time. Wanting to make sure it was actually his breath against your palm, and not the wind. The longer you left your hand there, the more positive you became that this strange man was still, to some degree, alive.
That just left the conundrum of what to do with him.
You needed to get him out of the icy water, that was for sure. If he didn't die from his wound and blood loss, he would surely suffer from hypothermia. He only had on a thin, long sleeve and half-button down, collared shirt and pants of the same material, paired with suspenders, belt and boots.
“What were you up to?” You frowned at him, seeing he was bleeding from a wound to the right side, before hooking your arm under his shoulder and bracing it under his, then started pulling his heavy body further up dry land; as far as you could get him. “Mmph!” You grunted, laying him down in the sand, unable to carry him any further.
“Oh gosh.” You panted, flicking back several windblown wisps of hair out of your face. “You are a beast of a man.” You were about to try and move him a little bit more, when you heard your name being called, and felt your heart jolt into your throat. “Oh, Christ.” You fretted, hands beginning to shake, sure you were busted by one of the patrol officers.
You frantically looked around, but there was nowhere to hide the man, you were in the open and the beach was mostly flat and smooth. So, you did the one feeble thing you could think of, you rushed around and put yourself between them and him.
Though, you found it to be useless.
“What are you doing?” Your brother huffed, coming up to you, breathless, before finally spotting the unconscious man you were trying to shield. “Who the hell is this?” He barked, waving a hand behind you.
You started to lie to him, but saw the look in his eye and gave that up. “I found him in the water.” You blurted out, turning around to face him. “He's still alive. Barely. He's been wounded in the side by something. But I pulled him out of the water and I was going to get help.” You looked at your brother, eyes wild. “However, you showed up.”
Your brother looked at you, critically, obviously furious. “That's a bullet wound!” He hissed at you, grabbing the front of the man's shirt and rolling him onto his uninjured side, to get a closer look.
“He's been shot!” You gasped, leaning over to see. “We have to help him, Edmund.”
“Help him!” Edmund barked, lifting a brow at you. “Are you quite out of your mind! If the Patrol finds him with us, they'll finish killing him and likely throw us in an interment.”
“Edmund.” You whispered, gasping the back of his arm.
He stared at you for a long second, then growled down at the man. “Fine.” He huffed, begrudgingly. “I just don't know how you expect us to move him, without getting caught by the Patrol.” He said, looking back towards the village, it was a good two hundred yards away, plus the eighty or so yards from the edge of the beach, along the edge of the village and to where you lived with your elderly father.
“What about your truck?” You perked up, looking at him, your eyes bright with the idea. “We can carry him to the edge of the beach, hiding him. I'll stay nearby, to keep an eye on him, while you go get your truck and come back. Then, we'll put him in the back and cover him with some of your tarps. Perhaps, take a short drive to some place and go back home. To reduce suspicion.”
Edmund stared at you, his expression conveying how skeptical he was about your plan, before he shook his head and threw up his hands. “If we get caught, I'm going to be so angry with you!” He chided, grabbing the man beneath the arms, much like you had. “Grab his feet.” He huffed at you, jerking his head at the man's boots.
“Yes, right!” You nodded, flustered, rushing around and grabbing his ankles. “Oh gosh, even his legs are heavy.” You groaned, stumbling to keep up with Edmund's quick pace as he rushed down the beach, wanting to work quickly before anyone came along.
“How do we not know this man isn't one of them?” Edmund puffed, breath wheezing in his throat as the exertion became too much for him, but he pushed through it.
You frowned at your brother, then looked at the man, and studied his pale face. Something in your gut told you he wasn't a collaborator or one of the enemies inflicting war on so much of Europe and Humanity.
“We don't.” You murmured, biting the corner of your lip. “However, I just feel that he's not.”
“Oh, you feel it.” Edmund huffed, mocking you. “Well, let's go on a woman's intuition.”
“There's no need to be crass, Edmund.” You barked at him, irritated by his remark. “You have no more evidence that he is, than I do that he's not. But you can't tell me if he was one of them, they'd not have called the patrol to come out and look for him by now.”
Refraining from answering for a short time, to save his breath, while you moved him to the edge of the beach. Resting him beside some brush and rocks that were there, Edmund finally answered you, wiping the sheen of sweat from his brow with the back of his sleeve.
“Aye, you're right. I don't think they would have left him.” He sighed, staring down at him, still troubled by the situation. “I'll be back. But if you see a patrol coming, don't try saving him. Just turn and walk away.” He told you, grasping your wrist and staring hard into your eyes. “Let them have him.”
“He's not worth your life.” He said, his eyes pleading with you.
“Go, get your truck.” You answered, softly.
Rolling his eyes, Edmund headed back towards home, walking at a quick pace, but not fast enough to hopefully draw any attention or suspicion. He turned the corner onto the street your family lived on. You and your father, Mael, lived in the cottage across the road from where your brother lived with his wife, Willa. He said a silent prayer, finding the street empty, minus a few vehicles, including his truck, that he used for his trade as a handyman.
“This is going to get us killed.” Edmund muttered to himself, pulling open the driver's door and sliding into the worn, black and leather bench seat, then pulled down the sun visor for the keys.
The truck roared to life and Edmund maneuvered it away from the curb, nervously drumming his thumbs on the steering wheel. “I could have been a Private in the Army, fighting in Belgium or some place. Maybe even join the Rebellion, help liberate this country.” He rambled, gritting his teeth. “But no! I get stuck with a medical condition and a sister that wants to save some bloke that could be a Collaborator!”
Tumblr media
You paced nervously, giving the man quick glances, then shooting a look towards the road, mentally urging your brother to hurry. It felt like every eye in the village was secretly watching you. You wouldn't be surprised if at least three pairs were watching from some high window. But you didn't dare look at any of the windows that lined the other side of the road from the beach. Knowing if you did happen to meet someone's nosy eye, it would only implicate them later on, if you and Edmund were caught.
“Thank Jesus.” You gasped, hearing the rumble of your brother's truck coming up the road, though it did little to dampen your anxiety.
Edmund pulled his truck to a stop and got out, never killing the engine as he moved to the back, dropping the tailgate. “Is he still alive?” He asked, coming over to you and glancing at the man.
“Yeah.” You nodded, biting your lip. “I can actually see his chest rise now.”
“Great.” Edmund sighed, carding a hand through his hair. “Looks like the fool is going to live.” He said, grabbing him under the arms again. “Let's get him in the truck. Rounds are going to start soon.”
You grabbed his feet and helped haul him over to the bed of the truck. It was a bit of a hassle, but the two of you finally managed to get your mystery man in and covered up with a couple of the cloth drop tarps Edmund used for work, making sure he was able to breathe. It was just as Edmund was securing the gate closed, that the hard tap of a boot heel echoed down the street towards the two of you, causing your stomach wrench and Edmund to grunt; catching sight of the Patrol Officer through the back window and windshield.
“It's just the kid.” He muttered to you, under his breath. “Go, get in the trunk.” He told you, taking a deep breath.
“Ed-”
“I said, go.” He hissed, the muscles of his jaw flexing.
Gulping and trying to act casual, you walked around to the passenger side, yanking open the heavy door, as the young Patrol Officer reached the truck's front bumper. You gave him a sweet smile and a nod of your head, then slipped into the cab and pulled the door shut. So he couldn't start a conversation with you. He stopped by the window of the driver's door, giving you a wide and overexcited smile, then turned his attention to Edmund.
“A good morning, yeah?” He greeted your brother, who had started for the driver's seat.
“Yeah.” Edmund replied, glancing up at the sky. “Looks like a very good morning, indeed.” He said, grabbing the door handle.
“Truck?” The officer motioned, a questioning look on his face.
“It's my truck.” Edmund answered, frowning at him, not quite understanding.
“What's—in?” He asked, trying hard to work through the language barrier.
“My trade tools.” Edmund told him, turning to face him, putting himself between the younger man and the truck. “I'm a carpenter.” He tried to explain, reaching into the back and pulled out his tool belt, holding it up for him to see.
“Ah.” The Officer nodded, smiling. “And, that?” He asked, pointing to the tarps.
“Nothing.” Edmund said, setting his belt down. “She...” He pointed over to you. “Found a dead seal out on the beach and pestered me into taking it away, before any of the village kids found it.” He hoped to convince him and prayed he wouldn't want to take a look. But, that worry soon passed, watching the kid blanch.
“Yeah, you go.” He gulped, taking a step back, as if he had gotten a whiff of the dead seal underneath the tarps.
“Well, have a good day.” Edmund smiled, giving him a small wave and yanked his door open.
“That took a moment.” You muttered as he slammed his door.
“He was asking questions, that's why.” He huffed back, glancing into the rear view and relaxing as he watched the kid continue on with his Patrol, not look back at you. “Luckily for us, he's squeamish.”
“How does someone that's squeamish get drafted?” You commented, shaking your head.
“Well, he's not really doing anything in the War, now is he?” Edmund snapped, glancing over at you, an offended glint in his eyes. “He's a damn Patrol Officer for a town his Country is occupying. He's not seeing any of the real action.”
“I'd laugh to think if they let his rifle have bullets in it.”
You snorted, bringing your hand to your mouth, in an attempt to cover it. “I'm sorry.” You said, when Edmund shot you a look. “But that boy does look like he'd injure himself with a pocketknife.” You explained, staring back at your brother, who held his angered expression for three seconds longer, then burst, filling the cab with his hearty laugh.
Tumblr media
Edmund could never be angry with you, or not longer than a few minutes at least. The two of you were ten years apart, but were closer than pearls in an oyster. Edmund had been planned by your parents, well mostly by your mother, who thought a child would help your father snap out of his shell shock from his time in the First World War. But having a screaming child in the house had only seemed to exacerbate it. Until Edmund was four years old, when he started to show an interest in Mael's metals and memorabilia.
As for you, as Edmund always put it, seemed to have just shown up one day.
He didn't remember your mother being pregnant, only her going away for a few days and coming back home with you in her arms. He remembered her rushing about the house every time you made the slightest sound and telling him to make sure you didn't cry. Which, honestly, wasn't all that often. You had been a quiet and easy baby, compared to him. But he looked after you, showing you his favorite metals of your father's, and telling you how he had gotten them in the War.
When you were five and Edmund was fifteen, the two of you came home one day from school to find your father in one of his episodes and your mother gone. Edmund had sent you next door to stay with a neighbor, while he worked on calming your father down and found out your mother had been seeing someone and ran off with them. It took Edmund calling your father's doctor to finally calm him down, giving him a sedative. The physician had suggested moving somewhere else, that the city life was too much for Mael's nerves, somewhere quiet and abundant with sea air. That would do him a world of good.
That's how the three of you ended up in your quaint, coastal village on the French side of the English Channel. It had a population of just under five hundred. A real, everyone-knows-everyone community. They welcomed the three of you warmly. It's where Edmund had met and fell in love with Willa. It's where the four of you were now under the thumb of German occupation, and with a strange man in the bed of your brother's truck, just passing by the last building and into the rolling hills, that took you to the nearest town.
Tumblr media
“All right, wise woman.” Edmund sighed, folding his arms against the steering wheel and leaning forward. “What's your grand plan on getting your Robinson Crusoe into the house?” He asked, cocking a brow at you and dying to hear it.
You had sat beside your brother for the last twenty minutes trying to figure out that very plot point. Part of you really wished whoever this man was, would do the two of you a favor and come back around to consciousness. Then, maybe, you could just say you found him injured on the side of the road and help him into the house. However, you knew if that happened, word would spread and the Director General would be knocking on your door, demanding to see him.
“I don't have one.” You finally admitted. “I shouldn't have gotten us into this mess, Edmund. Maybe, we should just turn him in?”
“Oh no!” He snapped at you, straightening up. “That one Patrol Officer already thinks he's a dead seal! If we go back into the village and confess, we'll be in deeper hot water than if we'd been up front.” He rambled, dragging both hands through his hair, in his agitation.
“Could we keep him in the truck til night fall?” You suggested, weakly.
“And if he wakes up by then?” He asked, blowing a hole through it.
You sighed softly, glancing down at your hands as they rested in your lap, but frowned seeing the brownish outline of dry blood on the light blue fabric. You were rubbing at it, when an idea finally popped into your head and looked over at Edmund.
“How heavy are all of your tarps rolled up together?” You asked him, lifting a brow, curiously.
“They can be pretty hefty.” He replied, rubbing the underside of his scruffy jaw.
“So, it would be almost believable, say we carry him into the house, wrapped in a few, under the pretense we're making a couple renovations to the house?” You inquired, your eyes steady on your brother's face. “It's not like we and the village don't know that Papa and I's cottage need them.”
“Badly.”
Edmund sat there, staring out the windshield, as he processed the likelihood of your little idea working. He drew his bottom lip in between his teeth, pressing his top lip down on it for a moment, before popping them forward, a slow wag of his head building into a nod.
“It might work.” He finally said, convincing himself of it. “I'll have to bring in a few of my tools and spend some time there every day, to make it look like I'm actually putting the work in.” He built on top of your plan. “Of course, I'm not leaving you and Pops with this guy, so I'll be coming over anyway.”
“We could use the old cellar room in the basement to hide him.” You chimed in. “In case, someone from the Patrol or anyone from the village comes over.”
“That's a good idea.” Edmund nodded, licking his lips. “I can build something, along that wall, for a hidden door into the cellar.” He said, already mapping out the plans in his head. “This could actually work, Peanut!” He grinned over at you.
“There's the confidence I love seeing in my Captain!” You beamed back, slapping him on the knee. “We should get going too. It looks like our beautiful morning is turning into a dark afternoon.” You said, peeking at the sky. “I'm worried it'll start raining on our friend back there.”
“Oh, he's our friend now?” Edmund teased you, pushing open his door. “We don't even know his name! But, by damned, he's our friend!”
You smirked at him, shaking your head. “I'm just trying to be positive, Eddie.”
“I know.” He replied, a gentle smile on his face, as he reached over to playfully pinch your cheek.
“Quit!” You laughed, slapping his hand away. “You brute!”
“We should do it here. Where no one can see us.” He suggested, heaving a sigh as he got out.
“That's a smart idea.” You nodded, following suit.
Edmund did a quick look around, before dropping the tailgate and hopping into the bed, beside your friend. You peeked over the side of the trunk, watching Edmund pull away the tarp from him, and let out a small breath of relief to see him still breathing. But frowned seeing the small pool of blood underneath him.
“I'll need new tarps after this.” Edmund commented, snarkily. “There's nothing I can say to explain blood stains on them. Short of sawing my arm off.”
“I'll compensate you for them.” You replied, pulling yourself up beside him.
“With what money, exactly?” He asked, cocking a brow at you.
“Hey, I get a decent enough salary working at Remi's store.” You cut back at him. “I've been helping you keep food on our tables.”
Edmund nodded, not about to discredit you on that. “True enough, Peanut.” He replied, then returned to the task at hand. “I'm going to turn him to his good side. I want you to support him and his head, while I situate the tarps to go underneath him.” He instructed you, carefully pushing his hands underneath the injured man.
You nodded, as Edmund grunted with effort to lift and roll him towards you. Grabbing onto the thigh of his pants and cradling his head in your palm, you watched Edmund spread and straighten out the tarps, draping one half of them over the side of the truck. You could feel his faint and warm breath on your forearm, coming in an irregular pattern, but it gave you an odd comfort to feel it, nonetheless.
“All right, that's all of them. Put him down on his back again.” Edmund pointed to the smoothed out tarps as he stood outside the truck now.
Biting your lip, you pushed up on your knees and leaned forward, trying to roll him onto his back as gently as possible. Unsure of how much he could feel. You didn't want to cause him any more pain than necessary as you situated him, catching a slight twitch of his brow as you let go of his trousers, only supporting his head.
“Sorry.” You mumbled to him, automatically, wincing.
“Come on, let's get him covered up, so we can go.” He rushed you, feeling antsy and the cool, damp air stir around him, indicating the imminent rain.
Tenderly letting go of his head and reaching out for the other half of the tarp, you carefully covered him up, tucking it in around him, mindful of the still seeping wound, while trying to make it not look so much like a body in a rug. Nodding at Edmund, you climbed back out of the truck and he rearranged some of his tools, hoping to add to the disguise.
“Here's to hopin'!” Edmund huffed, starting the truck and backing off the outlook, he'd pulled onto after putting several minutes between you and the village. “Or all three of us will be dead seals!”
You and Edmund laughed, having a light moment, before the village came into view and the sobering resolve of action came back over you.

“Fuck off!”
Though you hadn’t looked at the clock, you knew it was early, and it was definitely too early for your phone to be going off. When you opened your eyes, you noted that it was still dark outside. Not a single stream of light was coming from beyond the curtain. The light from your phone was blinding as you reached over, slamming your hand on the nightstand a few times before finally catching it in your grip.
The number wasn’t one saved in your phone. Your brain told you to ignore it and throw your phone down before going back to sleep. But something, you weren’t sure what, told you to pick up.
So you did.
“What?”
Just because you decided to answer, that didn’t mean you had to be nice about it.
A familiar laugh floated through the other end of the phone.
“Are you always this cranky in the mornin’?”
You glanced at the clock on your phone before bringing it back to your ear.
“I am when it’s almost 2 and I was just asleep.” You wanted to clobber him, and you felt that he should thank his lucky stars he wasn’t in front of you. “Jamie, it’s not even fucking morning yet.” He laughed again. How did it still sound so nice and magical, even this early in the morning? You cursed at yourself for the thought. Despite that, however, you still felt the anger in your chest lower.
You sat up, bringing your leg up to your chest and resting your chin on your knee.
“You saved my number,” You remarked. The sleep was heavy in your voice, but you wondered if he could hear your smile in it as well.
“You did give it to me.”
“You threw it on the floor.”
“It made its way back to me.” You turned your head so now your cheek was pressed into your knee.
“What can I do for you at 2 in the morning, Jamie Tartt?” Your mind went through a long list of the possibilities as your heart picked up in pace. It was unlikely that Jamie had called you this early just for a friendly chat.
“I have something to show ya,” He said, sounding a little urgent. “But we have to leave now.” You sat up straighter, feeling a little more awake. Was that excitement filling your chest? Of course fucking not, you were absolutely furious about the intrusion on your sleep. Complete anger. Not a single ounce of curiosity or excitement. None at all. Nope.
“Right now?” He didn’t miss a single beat.
“Right now.” When you didn’t answer right away, he spoke again. “I think it’s gonna help your article and all that.”
You looked around the room blankly, your brain still not having quite caught up with the time.
“Where are you?” You asked weakly as you began to climb out of bed. Somehow, you already knew the answer.
“Outside your place.” Sure enough, when you peaked out the window of your bedroom, you could just make out a figure below, right in front of the front door. Despite the confusion and the questions you had, you began to search for proper clothing. “Hurry up, yeah? We ain’t got all day.”
“It’s still not fucking day, Jamie. It’s the middle of the night.”
“You can be mad all you want, but I promise, you’ll like this.” As you pulled on a pair of leggings, at 0154 in the morning, you believed him.
With the speed you were able to muster up to get ready, you felt like you deserved an award. Feet dragging across the floor, you opened the door of the building to find Jamie beaming at you, his car parked on the road behind him. Before a word was said, he handed you a cup of what you could only assume was tea. It was a welcomed sight, and only made you slightly less angry at him.
“This better be good, Tartt,” You warned before taking a sip. “Not the tea.The tea is spectacular. I mean whatever you have to show me.” He nodded, raising his hands in innocence.
“I promise, it’s good,” He assured you. When you opened up your mouth to speak again, he immediately turned and jogged to the car.
“Less talkin’, more movin’,” He urged, gesturing towards the inside of the car. “We’re burnin’ moonlight here.” You flopped into the car, pulling the seatbelt across your lap and settling into the seat. Jamie shut the door behind you before running back to the driver’s side. In an instant, the car was taking off down the road.
“How far away is it?” You asked him.
“It’s a surprise.”
“This could be considered kidnapping, you know.” He snorted.
“I don’t recall tyin’ ya up and throwin’ ya in my car.” He took a sharp turn, throwing your body in his direction as he held steady, like nothing happened at all.
“Alright, you won’t be driving like that the whole drive, will you?” It came out more frustrated than you intended, but in your defence, you had only been awake for maybe 10 minutes at this point. Jamie looked at you with apologetic eyes.
“Sorry,” He said, an ease to his voice. “I’ll take it easy. Just for you.”
“Appreciated.”
You snuggled into your seat. Your body was turned so it was tucked into the left side, and you were more facing Jamie than the front. He had one hand on the wheel, the other tapping to the rhythm of the music on his radio.
“How long of a drive is it?” You asked him. He side eyed you before looking back at the road. You could see the indent in his cheek where he was biting it. The longer he went without answering, the more anxious you felt.
“A few hours,” He finally admitted. Your mouth dropped in surprise, your eyes suddenly feeling quite tired.
“A few hours?” You repeated in an exasperated voice. “Where the fuck are we going, Jamie?” Deep down, you knew asking again was a losing game. He simply shook his head, not saying another word.
You laid your head back against the seat and listened to the music. It was just the radio playing a song off the top 40 list, but it was something to focus on. Your eyes began to droop.
“You can take a nap if you want,” He told you in a soft voice. “We have time. I’ll watch for the potholes for ya.” He even turned the music down.
You watched him for a while, studying the way he mouthed along to each song, bobbing his head ever so slightly to the beat. He would occasionally switch how he held the steering wheel, going between the very top to the bottom towards the left. But he never used both hands. Just the left one. His phone was hidden in his pocket, and you could tell that he was the type to never text and drive with a passenger in the car (what he did while alone in the car was another story). He still sported the usual headband, which parted like curtains down the middle to reveal the windows that were his eyes. Though it was not a training day, he was still wearing a black hoodie and shorts as if he were going to train. Part of you wished you had your notebook. It was easier, in your opinion anyway, to describe something if you were able to write it down in front of you.
It was quite clear that he was holding to his promise, for roads that were so familiar to you by their wretched pave job alone were now the smoothest you’d ever experienced. Before long, you weren’t able to fight it, your eyes blinking closed and holding like that for a while.
It felt like seconds had passed before you came around again, but when you looked outside, despite the continued darkness from the sky, the surroundings had completely changed. The clock read a quarter to 4. You pushed yourself upwards slightly as you yawned heavily. Jamie looked over at you for a brief second.
“Alright, Sleepy?”
As you settled back into your seat, you exhaled deeply.
“Just surprised we made it this far with how you usually drive.”
He looked positively offended by this.
“I’ve been good! Drivin’ like a proper angel, in my opinion!” He kept looking back and forth quickly between you and the road. You lifted your hands in the air.
“Alright, alright,” You said calmly. “Even I’ll give credit when due. You’ve done a brilliant job.” He beamed, picking up his cup, which couldn’t possibly be holding anything warm anymore, and took a sip.
“What makes this place so special that you had to drag me out of bed in the dead of the night to go see it?” You asked him. He pondered your question for a moment.
“Technically, it’s two things we’re seein’,” He admitted. “But that’s all I can tell ya. So talk about somethin’ else, will ya?” You tapped your finger against your chin.
“Tell me something good about you.” His face scrunched up.
“Something good about me?” He repeated in a questioning tone. “Like what?” You shrugged your shoulders.
“Anything.”
The words hung in the air as he was silent. A few times, he opened his mouth only to immediately close it once more.
“Football!” He exclaimed, looking pleased.  “I’m good at football. Got ya.” To his dismay, you shook your head.
“Not something obvious, goofball. Something real.”
“Football is real.”
“You know what I mean.”
He sat on your question for a few minutes, the silence moving easy between the pair of you. You watched the silhouettes of the trees in the darkness as they raced by while waiting patiently.
“I’m super close with me mum.” Your head whirled towards him, a shocked look on your face. Between his parents, you’d only heard about his dad at this point. Turning in your seat, you pressed your right arm against the leather so you could face him completely, your legs curled beneath you. He stared out the windshield for a minute, before giving you a quick look. “Shocks a lot of people. I get it.”
“Tell me about her.” His expression was immediately filled with so much love, it was almost as if his mother was in the car right that moment.
“She’s… she’s everythin’,” He said, shaking his head. “She’s my number one fan. Always encouraged me when I was younger. Not like dad though.” He shook his head. “If I lost, she was never upset.” He paused, and you could tell by his eyes that the memories were all replaying in his head. “Win or lose, we’d get a treat after every match. And she always told me that she loves me regardless of how I play.” He looked at you earnestly. “Every goal I’ve ever scored and ever will score is for her.”
Something seemed to swell up in your chest as you looked at him, his words spinning through your brain. You had never considered Jamie having any sort of relationship with his mum, with what you knew of his father, but listening to how he described her made you feel some type of way.
“She’s still in Manchester, right?” You asked, forcing yourself out of your head. He nodded, fingers tightening on the steering wheel. “Do you miss her?”
“Oh yeah,” He admitted. “I still talk to her every day. But it ain’t the same, now that I live in London.”
No, you couldn’t imagine it was.
“But you would still see your dad,” You commented. Eye roll commenced.
“When I played at Man City, he went to every single game,” He said. “Mum came when she could. But Dad was always there.” He sighed. “Now, he’s only at the games that we play against Man City.” He swallowed hard. “I know if she could, she’d be there every time. Rather it be her than him, if I’m honest. It’s hard sometimes.” You nodded.
Now you really wished you had your notepad. It just felt nicer to write things down. Settling on your phone, you opened the notepad app and began to type.
The way Tartt talks about his mum will make you side eye your own boyfriend/husband. It makes one imagine how he would describe a significant other.
You reread the words over and over, debating on taking the second sentence out entirely. Who’s the one imagining? The readers, of course. Not you.
Definitely not you.
“Tell me something good about you,” He countered. This was one thing you weren’t prepared for when it came down to Jamie Tartt. No one else that you had ever interviewed asked you questions or cared about your answers.
But no one else pulled you out of bed in the middle of the night to take you on a road trip to a mysterious destination, either.
“I hope to publish a book someday,” You informed him, slight hesitation in your voice. An impressed look filled his face.
“Alright,” He said, sounding as he looked. The genuinity of his voice was warming. “What would you write about?” That was the question that always killed the vibe for you.
“I haven’t decided yet,” You admitted, shifting uncomfortably in your seat. “Need inspiration to strike.” He nodded, seeming to understand in his own way.
“It’ll come to ya,” He assured you. “You’re a smart and creative person, ain’t ya?.” A smile sprang on his lips. “When you release it, I better get a signed copy, yeah?” Swallowing the emotion that threatened to spill over, you shook your head.
“I’ll add you to the very long list of people. Let’s hope I have enough to get one for you.”
He shot you a playful glare. “You better!”
In a blink, the car was pulling into a car park. You squinted your eyes in an attempt to study your surroundings. Mostly, it was just trees, but it felt impossible to see them. Jamie hopped out of the car, immediately heading to the trunk. A football was in his hands when you were closing the passenger side door.
“So… you’re gonna murder me with a football, then?”
He rolled his eyes, saying nothing as he began to walk in the opposite direction. You walked quickly to catch up with him in an effort to stay close. It was almost 5 in the morning, and you were in a place you did not recognize. Staying close to the professional athlete who seemed to know where he was going was for the best.
The pavement of the car park was replaced with what could only be grass, easily mushed down by the dew that covered each blade. Jamie suddenly stopped.
“Alright,” He said as he turned to face you. “Just wait here, yeah?” As confused as ever, you nodded. He ran off, practically skipping as he disappeared in the darkness. You crossed your arms tightly across your torso. With every second that he was gone, you grew more and more anxious.
The surrounding lights burst on, making you throw your hands up to protect your poor, delicate eyes. It took another few seconds to adjust, but once you did, you looked around.
“Welcome to me second childhood home,” Jamie announced, his hands outstretched to either side.
It was a football pitch.
Much smaller than Richmond’s, you could only assume it was for amateur footballers, or childrens’ leagues. It was surrounded by trees and greenery. Jamie stood in the very middle of the pitch, watching you intensely for your reaction. You finally met his eyes again.
“The first ever pitch that I ever played football on,” He elaborated, looking around with great pride in his face. “We only lived a few roads away. I was here every day after class, kickin’ around.” He let out a longing sigh. “Never woulda thought it would bring me where I am now.”
You took a few careful steps forward, as if you were tainting it by your presence.
“Jamie…” You breathed. “This is lovely.” It was then that you noticed he had a blanket draped over his arm. He unfolded it and quickly laid it out in the grass. You took a few more steps forward as he flopped down on the ground. A smile was glued to his face as he placed his hand on the empty space next to him and patted it gently. You bit back a smile while you sat down.
“How did you know where the light box was?” You asked him.
“Had to figure it out to play at night,” He admitted, a hint of mischief in his voice. Hands folding in your lap, you stared at him.
“So this is the first thing you wanted to show me,” You said as he laid his head onto his shoulder. You mirrored him. “What’s the second thing?”
His eyes jumped to look behind you, before he raised a finger and pointed over your shoulder.
“That.”
When you turned, your heart swelled so much, you felt like it was going to burst out of your chest.
Over the tops of the trees, the sunlight began to pour in. Pastel pinks and yellows filled the sky, ombreing into a bright periwinkle. The whole thing looked like a painting that one would see in an art museum. It had been a long time since you had actually seen a sunrise. It was incredibly breathtaking.
“Your favourite time of day,” You said wistfully.
“You told me I should see it more,” He reminded you, as if you had forgotten. “Figured I’d bring you along.”
You turned to face him. Why was it surprising to find that he was already looking at you? Why were you embarrassed? And incredibly overwhelmed?
“What’s the ball for?” You asked him, nodding towards the blue, read and yellow sphere that he had placed a few feet away. He let out a laugh, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“To play, obviously.”
Within minutes, he was running around the field, kicking the ball around while you took pictures of him. It was hardly professional, but the stadium lighting made it look good enough for you. He kicked the ball towards you, an inviting look on his face. It took a moment of you staring at it to understand what he wanted from you.
“Oh! No,” You said, shaking your head. “I don’t know how to play!” He blew a raspberry.
“If only there were a professional here to teach ya.”
The next thing you knew, you were standing in front of the net, the ball in front of you.
“Hit it with the side of your foot,” Jamie said from right behind you. He was so close that you could smell his cologne. A shudder ran through your body. You nodded as if this was something you did everyday. He took a step away from you, leaving a cold air in his wake, before beginning to clap. “Alright, give it a go.”
Inhale. Exhale. You hopped forward and kicked your foot out, missing the ball entirely and landing right on your arse. At first, Jamie looked at you with complete shock and concern. Then, the both of you exploded in laughter. Walking towards you while almost doubled over, Jamie weakly pulled you back to your feet.
“Alright,” He said when he finally calmed down. “Let’s try again.”
He showed you once more what to do with your feet and arms, and you even mirrored it back to him in practice. Once he approved, he stepped away once more. Another deep inhale followed by a deep exhale, you tried again.
This time, you did actually make contact, but the ball rocketed through the air and went well over the net. Jamie, the gentleman, ran after it while you watched in horror, your hands covering your mouth.
One.
Two.
Three more attempts were given, all of them complete failures. It was starting to make you feel a little embarrassed. Jamie was so patient with you, not making fun of you or trying to make you feel bad when he showed you again and again what to do.
“Maybe I’m just not a natural born talent like you are,” You told him. He shook his head.
“Just give it one more try,” He urged. “If you miss it, I won’t ever make you even look at another football again.” You narrowed your eyes at him as he seemed to register what he just said. “Right. I won’t make you touch one again.”
“That’s better.”
Closing your eyes, you tried to relax and channel your inner footballer. Who is your inner footballer, anyway? Was it Roy Kent, with his anger? Or Sam Obisayna, with his pureness? Or Dani Rojas, with his passion?
None of those, you decided. You already knew who to channel.
Without missing another beat, you threw your foot out again and kicked the ball. It soared over the green grass, hitting almost perfectly in the middle of the net.
“FUCK, I DID IT!” You screamed, throwing your hands in the air and shouting. Jamie did the same, the both of you running circles on the pitch, just like they would in a professional match. The wind was flying through your hair, your eyes squeezed shut. The both of you continued on like this for longer than what could be considered normal. The excitement was real, not an ounce of it for show.
Jamie came at you from the side, picking you up like a sack of potatoes and throwing you over his shoulder while he continued to run around the field. You couldn’t help but laugh as your legs kicked through the air.
It never occurred to you to be afraid that he would drop you. You somehow just knew you’d be safe in his arms.
He lowered you back to the ground, his smile the widest you had ever seen it, his expression filled with deep pride.
“You did it,” He said quietly.
“Thanks to you.”
Why do I keep looking at his mouth?
Is that him doing the same?
It was then that you realised that his hands were still on your hips. He seemed to have had the same realisation, for he immediately released you as if you had burnt him.
The sun had been out for a long while at this point. Now the pitch was incredibly bright, with the stadium lights still glaring down. Jamie sighed as he picked up the blanket off the ground.
“Guess we should head back,” He said.
“Didn’t get much of an interview from it,” You said, taking one last look at the pitch. When you arrived, it had just meant something to one of you. Now, it meant something to both. Jamie stopped walking.
“Oh fuck,” He said, wiping his eyes. “Do you wanna stay? I just thought you’d be tired from me wakin’ you up and all.” The guilt on his face was so apparent, you almost felt bad for saying anything at all. You quickly shook your head.
“No, it’s all right,” You assured him. “I’ll have plenty of time to chat.” When he gave you a confused look, your eyebrows hit your hairline. “Oh shit. I forgot to tell you.” He looked at you expectantly. You wondered if his heart was beating as fast as yours.
Why would it be?
“I decided to take another week for the article,” You informed him. “I think I just need a little more time.”
His tongue was pressed against the inside of his cheek as he smiled.
“That’s probably not a bad idea,” He said casually after a few seconds. “Just to iron out the details and all that. It’ll be good.” You nodded.
“Unless, of course, you think I’ve got everything I need?” He immediately shook his head.
“No, I think another week would be good,” He said. “There’s plenty of me left to show ya.” There was something in his tone, but you couldn’t place what it was. A breeze flew in, pushing his hair in front of his face. You stuffed your hands in your pockets to stop yourself from putting the strands back where they belonged. He didn’t appear to notice them.
“Good… good.”
The two of you walked to the car in silence. Jamie opened the door for you, and you climbed in with nothing but a shy smile to give to him. He gently shut the door before throwing the football and the blanket in the back seat and making his way to the driver’s side.
Something had shifted. You could feel it. Did Jamie feel it too? It was unclear. But you definitely did. What was it? You couldn’t say for sure. But something felt different now. It was in the air. It was in your lungs. It was in the way you couldn’t stop looking at him.
“Oh right,” He said after turning the car on. A stupid smile formed on his face as he reached into the back seat and pulled out a black cap with white lettering spelling out TARTT. His grin was absolutely shit eating as he put it on your head. “Got you this to wear to the match tomorrow. And I already told security to not let ya through unless you’re wearin’ it.” You rolled your eyes.
“What happens if I show up without it?” You asked him. He scoffed.
“Kill ya onsight, obviously.” You looked at him with wide eyes and a wider smile, causing him to fight the urge to break his straight face. “My instructions were clear.” You shook your head.
“I guess I’ll wear it then.”
He pulled the car out of the car park while still sporting the dopey grin. Tucked into the passenger side, you stared out the window. When you looked over at him, and felt your stomach flutter, it occurred to you just what that shift that you had felt was.
Fuck.

man and minors dni
sevika's getting older.
a few grey hairs here, a few new wrinkles there, some new aches and pains she'd never had before-- it's an inevitable part of life. at least it is for most people.
but sevika's got you, now, and you've got an out for her-- a very permanent out, but an out nonetheless.
for a while now, she's been pressuring you to change her. about a month ago at work, she very narrowly dodged a fatal blow, and you started taking her demands seriously.
but-- there's a few things you want her to do before you guys go through with it.
you didn't get the chance to live out your final mortal desires before you were changed. you know just how depressing it can be to mourn being human, especially when you don't get to properly say goodbye. so, you've been helping sevika make a 'bucket list' of sorts-- all the things she wants to do one last time before she won't be able to do them anymore.
soaking in the sun, wearing silver jewelry, drinking a glass (or bottle) of whiskey-- stuff like that.
she's been steadily checking items off the list, and now you're down to the last few, and she wants to check 'em off all in one go.
she wants to eat a big, full meal-- steak and potatoes and a slice of chocolate cake on the side. then, she wants to feed you, one last time. and finally she wants to do what all humans are eventually bound to do: she wants to die.
that last one makes you nervous.
changing her requires that you drain her completely before you kiss her back to life. there's going to be a solid ten or so minutes where she's completely dead-- and she's apparently looking forward to it.
"i wanna know what it's like. see if i feel anything, see if i see anything." she says with a curious shrug.
it makes you nauseous to think about.
the entire reason you're doing this in the first place is so sevika never has to die. the idea of her body going still and cold beneath you, of her eyes glazing over and staring off into space, of her breaths ceasing, it hurts you to even fucking think about.
you're trying not to think about it at all.
"babe." sevika says to you over the table as you place her plate in front of her. you look down at her, smiling, and she reaches up to grab your hand. "this look fucking amazing." she says, not even looking at the plate. you snort. "you look... nervous." she says. you groan and slump down into her lap, scooping up a bite of potatoes and shoving it into her mouth. she chuckles.
"i'm trying not to freak the fuck out." you say. sevika hums, grabbing the fork from you to tear into her steak.
"it'll be fine babe." she mumbles around a mouthful. she groans. "fuck, this is divine."
"enjoy it." you say. she grins.
"i'm trying to savor it but i kinda wanna wolf it down and get your teeth in me." she says. you snort.
"eat slower." you demand. she giggles.
"baby." she says, putting her fork down to hold your hips. you lean forward, pressing your forehead against her shoulder. "i promise it'll be okay. it's gonna be fucking amazing, actually. just think about it-- in a few hours i'll be able to float around with you, we can start hunting together, i'm gonna be able to stay up all night with you. think of all the endless sex we'll have once i've got vampire stamina." she says, kissing your head. you snort.
"i'm just. i really don't want you to die." you say. sevika hums, rubbing her hand up and down your back.
"i know. but it's gotta happen one way or another. it's either this-- you killing me with your sexy fucking teeth then fucking me back to life or whatever--" you giggle. "-- or, i die at work or i get sick or something and you're not there to save me. and then we'll both be miserable forever." she says.
you sigh. she's right, of course, but you're still worried. you think you will be until she blinks back to life.
sevika reaches behind your back to grab another bite of her food. with her free hand, she reaches up to gently rub your cheek.
"you're everything to me, you know that right?" she asks around another mouthful of steak. you smile.
"feeling's mutual." you say. sevika smiles, gently toying with the tiny curl near your ear, pulling it straight then watching it coil back up again when she releases it.
"and i wanna spend infinity with you. if you'll have me." she says. you snort, and flick her head.
"course i will." you say. sevika grins.
"so there's no problem." she says.
you'd be lying if you said there wasn't at least a small part of you that's looking forward to tonight. you've been fasting for a month-- in preparation to drain sevika. you're ravenous. and sevika's your favorite fucking meal.
especially now, with her all glowy and happy after a big meal, a little tipsy from the bottle of wine you'd bought her-- she looks delectable.
she grins up at you from her spot on the bed. "hungry?" she asks. you chuckle.
"starving." you say, licking your lips. "i gotta say. i'm really gonna miss your blood."
sevika chuckles. "we'll find something else you like. together." she says, reaching up to thread her fingers through yours. you sigh, leaning down to kiss her, gently trailing your fangs over her lower lip. sevika shudders.
"c'mon, babe. i'm ready." she says, kissing the back of your hand, tilting her chin up, and widening her legs. you laugh.
"i'm not fucking you tonight." you say. sevika gasps.
"what?! why not?" she asks, pouting. you snort.
"because, i gotta stay focused." you say. sevika groans petulantly.
"but!" she tries. you press a finger to her lips.
"i'll fuck you when you wake up." you promise. sevika sighs.
"that works, i guess. is vampire sex any different than human sex?" she asks. you giggle.
"i dunno, it's been so long since i was a human it's all a bit of a blur now. you'll have to tell me." you say. sevika smiles.
"alright." she says. "c'mon." she says, tilting her chin up again. you giggle, leaning down to press a few kisses over her pulse point. sevika sighs, relaxing into the bed beneath her. "i love you more than i've ever loved anything or anyone, you know." she says shakily. you smile against her neck, licking her artery.
"you're sure?" you ask, one final time. sevika reaches up to hold your hips like she always does when she's beneath you.
"more sure than i've ever been about anything in my life."
"i love you sev." you whisper.
"i love you too, baby." she responds.
you take a deep breath, and sink your teeth into her throat.
sevika shudders and sighs, her nails digging into your skin as you retract your teeth and lick against her wounds, before you start sucking down her blood.
she tastes so fucking good. you're tempted to stop, just so you can keep her around as a bloodbag for a bit longer, but you know she'd be pissed if you did. so, instead, you let your instincts take over, and you start to devour her.
sevika's squeaking and gasping beneath you, her hands clawing into your flesh, her thighs squeezing together as you drink.
"th-that's it, honey, drain me. take it all from me. make me yours. make me yours." she whimpers. you growl against her neck, reaching down to hold her shoulder, gently tracing your thumb back and forth on her collar bone. sevika sighs. "c-can't believe you aren't gonna fuck me, shit! gonna make me cum in my p-pants." she says. you groan and readjust, shoving your thigh between sevika's. she laughs as she starts grinding down against you. "fuck i love you." she mumbles.
sevika cums a second later, shivering underneath you as you continue to slurp her down. you're messy-- messier than you've ever been before. something about the fact that you're changing her is making you fucking feral. you can taste the rush of hormones as she cums, and you shiver on top of her at the taste.
sevika goes limp beneath you, her grip loosening as she tries to catch her breath. she's getting lightheaded and dizzy, you can tell from the way she keeps giggling.
"f-fuck." she mutters. you hum against her. "feel drunk 'r somethin'." she says. you snort. "'m so fuckin' in love with you. you gotta marry me now, y'know." she says. you chuckle.
sevika's breaths start getting shaky, the hands on your hips slipping down to her sides. you reach out to hold her hand, intertwining your fingers again. she hums.
a minute later, and all of sevika's sounds stop. you can still hear her heartbeat, but it's much slower and softer than it usually is. your stomach flips, and you continue to drink from her.
when the gentle rhythm of her heart stops completely, you nearly choke with fear.
it's happening. fuck, it's happening.
you take a few more sips from her, draining her completely as she grows cold beneath you, and then you pull away with a gasp.
the usual high that accompanies a recent feed is nowhere to be found, dread taking its place.
sevika's eyes are shut, her skin clammy and cold, and she's not breathing, not moving, her heart completely silent.
you take a second to wipe your face of her blood, licking it off your arm, looking down at your girlfriend. she looks... peaceful. you hope she's feeling peaceful too.
you wanted to give her a solid minute or so to experience death, but your anxiety's too high. you only manage a few seconds before you lean down, cupping her face between both of your hands, and leaning down to gently, shakily press your lips against hers.
sevika's lips are cold and unresponsive.
you start to freak out.
you kiss her again, licking your tongue against her lip.
she stays still.
you gasp, sitting up to tap her cheek with your palm. "sevika." you call. she doesn't respond. tears start to well up in your eyes as you duck back down, sucking her lip into your mouth, running your tongue against it.
she still doesn't move.
you begin to panic.
"sevika!" you shout against her mouth. you bite her bottom lip, then follow it up with a quick peck. sevika remains still beneath you, and tears begin to well in your eyes. "wake up, you bitch!" you cry against her as you press your mouth to her again.
suddenly, sevika gasps and snaps upwards, her lips moving against yours, her hands coming up to hold your hips. you sigh in relief against her, and sevika flips you, pinning you to the bed. you squeal.
"oh thank fuck." you whisper up at her. she grins down at you.
"that is a hell of a way to wake up." she says. you chuckle, a few stray tears escaping your eyes as relief floods your body, and you reach up to grab her by the hair and pull her back down against you.
sevika chuckles against your lips. "you really thought i'd leave you behind?" she asks. you sob.
"fuck off. you had me worried!" you say. sevika snorts.
"i don't think you even fully let me die, babe." she says. "could hear you the whole time."
you giggle, and sevika gently swipes your tears away.
"how do you feel?" you ask. sevika grins, her fangs descending, and you gasp. fuck that's hot. you think.
"honestly?" she asks. you nod up at her. "better than i've ever felt before. what did you do to me?" she asks. you giggle.
"exactly what you asked me to!" you say. sevika grins.
"i didn't know i'd feel so... refreshed!" she says. you chuckle.
"i'm so fucking glad you woke up." you say. "i was gonna kill you if you died on me."
sevika snorts. "how would that work, exactly?" she asks. you groan and shrug, then reach up to pull her against you again, hugging her to your chest. sevika hums, nuzzling against your neck.
"i love you so fucking much." she says. "so fucking much."
"let's get married." you say. sevika grins against your neck.
"that's my line." she says. you giggle and blindly reach out to pat down your bedside table, pulling the drawer open and fumbling for the tiny box you've been hiding for months now. you pull it out and pull sevika away from your neck by her ponytail, before shoving it in her hand.
"i'm dead fucking serious." you say. sevika blinks, her eyes going wide.
"fuck-- really?" she asks. you nod.
"i mean. we're already spending eternity together, what's a ring and some paperwork?" you ask. sevika grins, then tears the box from your hand, tears welling in her eyes.
she opens it and bursts into laughter as she reveals the gold ring, strung on a gold chain so she can wear it all the time. you smile as you watch her squint, trying to make out the inscription.
your secret admirer it reads. sevika bursts into laughter.
"oh fuck-- i love you so fucking much." she cries. you grin up at her.
"yeah?" you ask. "is that a yes?"
"of course it's a fucking yes! are you kidding me?" she asks. you grin, and sevika swoops down to press her lips against yours. "thank you." she mumbles. "thank you thank you thank you thank you."
"for what?" you ask. "i should be thanking you!" you exclaim.
"for stalking me! for falling in love with me and being so fucking sweet and all the gifts and how much you take care of me and changing me and being my fiance and--"
you cut her off with another kiss. sevika hums against you.
"i love you." she finishes.
"i love you too. for infinity." you say. sevika grins.
"for infinity." she agrees, pulling the chain over her neck. you smile as the ring dangles down over you, gently tugging her closer by it.
"you want me to show you how to float?" you ask. sevika grins.
"fuck yes. but first i want to pay you back for that orgasm." she says, leaning down to kiss you.
you giggle, and sevika grins, and right before your lips connect, you think that even forever with sevika might not be enough time.

Tinkerbell
You’ve found yourself retreating to the ocean more often since the day of the inquiry. The crashing waves help you process everything that has happened over the past few months. You've been struck with so much pain, sorrow, and guilt; at times, it feels like you were barely living at all. You’re not sure if you actually lived through those horrible months or if a robot took control of your body. Some of the same feelings came back to you when you walked into your hangar on base the day after the trial.
The work is the same. Your team is the same. Yet, you can’t help feeling like everything has inexplicably changed. Your team has flourished under Commander Greyson's steady, quiet leadership. In your darkest moments, you wonder if they wouldn't be better off without you at the helm. You can't deny that Commander Greyson is brilliant at what he does. There would be so much your team can learn from him - so much you can learn from him. Even the drone project for Admiral Cain is completed with so much detail it makes your head spin. It feels odd, being back on the North Island Naval Base as notorious as you are. It leaves you with a prickling, itching sensation of being seen.
Jake and Javy had dogged you relentlessly that first day, spending all their time off hops draped over the worn sofa in the AMDO hangar in turn like a pair of eager, hungry, sweet Dobermans. They never hesitated to growl at the gossip floating around, even before your inquiry. But you chased them away after the first day, knowing you needed to stand by yourself. Being back home, in your actual house, helps too. The familiar sights and smells wrap you in a warm hug. So does being able to tinker with your cars and motorcycles.
But what you've missed the most when staying with Jake and Javy was having the sea nearby. The crashing of the waves, the salt in the air, the way the sand is rough under your feet. Every night, you had taken to languidly strolling at the tide line, relishing in the prickle of small seashells against the pads of your feet in the wet sand. The rush of water soothes the roar of your thoughts and grounds you. If only it could soothe your unconscious mind as well as the sea soothes your conscious thoughts.
Of course, nothing can soothe your thoughts, not even the rush of the ocean in the distance as Bradley opens the passenger side door for you in front of a gorgeous off-white stucco house. The long, shaded drive is packed with cars, and you can feel your nerves with every footstep you take. You willingly take hold of a couple of the many tote bags full of alcohol Penny had given Bradley because you may not be sure what you’re doing here. You're still not sure why you accepted his invitation to celebrate his dad. Still, at least you can cart alcohol into the colossal house.
When the door opens, it's to a wall of pure sound. You're shell-shocked by it but more so by the slight man with dark hair and green eyes standing at the threshold.
“A-admiral Mitchell!” With your arms encumbered by the bags, you can’t salute, though a part of you wishes you could.
“At ease, Lieutenant Commander.” His grin is mischievous, and his voice is sardonic. “Come on in. I'm glad Bradley finally got off of his ass and invited you out to meet us.”
Your smile is nearly a grimace as you follow Admiral Mitchell into the kitchen and set the bags down on one of the counters. You turn and brush invisible dust off of your fingers. Admiral Mitchell's looking at you with a knowing smile on his face.
“I guess he didn't tell you he was bringing you here?”
You shake your head and let him take the bags out of your hands. “Well, you’re always welcome, kid. And please. Call me, Mav.”
The door swings open again, and this time, you’re hit with a waft of that sandalwood scent that you’re quickly coming to adore. It's Bradley, and you're not sure why, but he's easily holding all of the other bags, bulging with bottles of alcohol in his brawny arms.
“Hey, Baby Goose!” You grin at the naked affection in the other man’s words. “It took you long enough to get Tinkerbell to come here.”
“But, kiddo, you could’ve at least warned her what she was walking into!”
Maverick Mitchell looks like he’s practically leaping for joy. You have to stifle your snicker as a blush crawls its way up Bradley’s neck.
“It was a spontaneous invitation, Dad.” Now, the endearment has you looking wide-eyed at Bradley.
“Go on, get all the drinks in the kitchen. Ice is out in the backyard, manning the grill. All of the others are out there, too. Grab whatever you’d like for yourselves, and get on out there!” Mav seems quite content to ignore the look on your face, skirting around you and Bradley in the hallway and disappearing through an arch at the end of the hallway when someone calls his name.
“Come on, Tink.” You follow his broad shoulders as he leads you through the house. The walls are covered with pictures, a lot of them depicting a tow-headed boy in various stages of growth. Of course, you realize they're Bradley when you see his graduation pictures right next to his Officer promotion pictures on the wall. When you walk through the same arch Mav disappeared through, you’re spellbound at the sight of the sun setting through the big picture windows. There are fairy lights strung through the trees and music playing. On an impromptu dance floor, you can see couples dancing.
There are a lot of people floating through the backyard. You recognize most of them from dossiers and others from reputations built on hearsay in the Navy, and all of a sudden, you're absolutely sure you shouldn't be here at all. The icing on the proverbial cake is when you see Mav kissing Iceman, yeah, that Iceman, tenderly on the lips.
“Yeah, Dad and Pops are soulmates.” You squeak just a little as those words hit.
“So you’re telling me your dad, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and your Pops, Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, the COMPACFLT of the US Navy, are soulmates?”
You’re sure you can be excused for your tone. This is a whopper of a secret to find out. Bradley takes one look at your face and snickers like he can’t believe the expression on his face. You poke your elbow into his side gently, trying to make him let up on his teasing. You’re not serious about it, enjoying the light air between the two of you. But when Bradley wraps his arm around your waist, you have to sigh at the warmth his arms bring you. He stops moving when he’s wrapped around you, one hand securely holding his beer, the other curled around your front like it was made to be there.
His sandalwood scent wraps you up as securely as his arms do. Standing here, seeing the sun setting behind the party happening out in the yard, it almost feels like you can do this - be soulmates with Bradley Bradshaw. Obviously, there is a lot you still need to talk to him about. But, the warmth Mav has shown you as some of Bradley’s only family goes a long way.
“It’s beautiful here,” you hum as you sip from your icy cold cider bottle, relishing in the condensation dripping onto your sun-warmed skin.
“Yeah, it is, isn’t it?” There’s something reverent in Bradley’s voice as he looks out over the yard with its sprawling green lawn.
“I’ve always wanted to have a life like Mav and Ice’s.” He smiles softly, his eyes sparkling in the golden light of the setting sun like amber shot through with motes of molten gold.
“My mom and dad have a house, you know?” You gasp and slide your fingers down until they’re laced with his across your stomach.
“It’s in Virginia. They got acres of land with the property. My mom’s parents gave it to my mom and dad when they got married. I can’t help but wonder if everything would have been different if I still had them both with me.”
“They loved you, Rooster. I don’t have to have met them to know that. They would have adored seeing the man you’ve become, Bradley.”
“I know they would have, Tinkerbell. I wish I could make that house a home, is all.”
“Who is to say you still can’t?”
“Who would want to build a life with me, anyhow?” There is sorrow in his voice, the same emotion streaking across his face in a flash.
“Well, I know I would be willing to try?” You’re not sure what prompts the words to spill out of your mouth. They feel so right on your tongue. The words also leave you feeling oddly vulnerable because they’re the vocalization of a dream you’ve been carrying yourself for a very long time. Bradley’s sweet intake of breath makes something light up in your chest.
“I’d like that,” he chuckles, “C’mon. Let me introduce you to everyone here. They’re the closest things to a family I’ve got. I want them to like you, but chances are, they’ll love you. They might not love me once they hear what happened, though.”
You slide your drink onto a table and slip your arms around his waist. His arms curl around you tenderly. His lips feather against the top of your head in a soft, barely there kiss.
“They’re your family, Roo. They’re going to love you no matter what.”
He chuckles ruefully at your earnest words.
“They’re going to love you too, Tinkerbell.”
With those final words on the matter, you’re whisked out into the setting sun. A part of you can’t believe you’re out here rubbing elbows with US Navy elites. Every person Bradley introduces you to is another surprise. Before you can blink, you’ve chatted with Rear Admiral Kerner, who asks you to call him Slider, and laughed with Admiral Kazansky. You adore how this colossal cobbled-together family acts with each other. Every conversation is littered with inside jokes and teasing words. But more than how happy you are, it’s gratifying seeing how happy Bradley is. He seems to be in his element, laughing and reminiscing. There have been so many stories of Goose Bradshaw where you’ve seen him wiping away tears even while laughing that gloriously deep belly laugh.
People leave the party in pairs and trios, alcohol-soaked with colossal smiles curling their lips and laughter sneaking out as the ocean breeze brushes through the trees, salt-laden and wet as it smacks into your face. Before long, there are only a handful of the guests left in the garden. You’re not sure when he lit it, but Mav has started up a fire in the firepit, coals glowing red in the night air. You join the rest of the stragglers around the bonfire, settling in next to Bradley in one of the Adirondack chairs.
“So, Tinkerbell.” Your head snaps up so fast at the sound of her voice that it kind of hurts. It’s Sarah, The Iceman’s sister and Slider’s wife (how is this your life), who asks you, “How did you meet our Bradley?”
You swallow your sip of cider hurriedly - nearly choking on the fizzy liquid - caught on the spot as every face in the circle turns to you. Bradley grins as he lays an arm securely over your shoulders. That first night at The Hard Deck feels like it was a million years ago. A part of you can’t believe that it has only been a little over six months. It feels like you’re reliving that night over again when you recount it. You can taste the cocktails you’d been downing all night on your tongue. You half feel the sensations of Bradley’s hands on your skin as you recount the crush of people in the bar that night and the fear as you nearly get trampled.
You unconsciously turn until you face Bradley, drinking in the sight of his face as he looks at you as you retell the first meeting of your fraught relationship. The electricity you’d felt that night is swarming through your veins again as you finish your retelling. You don’t mention a thing about the words you’d shared with him before leaving the Hard Deck and how you’d cried your eyes out in your bed at home, jet lag and exhaustion working in concert to make the words hit harder than they ever should have.
“That’s such a sweet story!” Sarah has a dreamy look on her face as she reaches for Slider’s hands with her own. They look so happy with each other, true soulmates if you’ve ever seen them. But you’re not one to ask. Since you were a little girl, you’ve had it drilled into your head to never ask someone what their soulmate marks are or even if their partner is their soulmate. It’s considered incredibly rude to do so when you’re not immediate family members or intimate friends. There are still people who do it, but they are rare and mostly do it to be rude. “I’m sure the two of you are going to be very happy together.”
You smile a little stiltedly, not sure how to answer that because while things are good between you and Bradley right now, far better than that first night anyhow, they’re far from where you could believe you’ve reached your happily ever after. Bradley seems just as discomfited as you are by his aunt’s well-meaning words. He joins the next conversation topic with aplomb, energy radiating out with him until it seems like everyone is wrapped up in the fun as the music plays low and quiet out of the speaker system. A few minutes later, he tugs you up out of your Adirondack and pulls you down towards the bottom of the garden.
“They love you, sweetheart.” You grin, wild and unabashed, as his words make you light up. Your heart is soaring, but your brain’s still unsure of this sudden need to have him at arm's reach, always touching you, always close. It feels too easy after all the pain you’ve been through.
“I’m glad, Bradley.”
“You don’t sound glad, Tink.” You’ve been trying to keep your emotions from your face, and now, more than ever, you’re sure you haven’t succeeded.  The bond between the two of you must be acting up as well because Bradley’s got this knowing look on his face. Goosebumps rise on your arms at the thought.
“I am.” He snorts and slides his Hawaiian shirt across your shoulders. It leaves him in just a white singlet. The top clings to his muscles and almost shines under the golden lights. Unbidden, the words spill out of you.
“I promise I am, Bradley. It doesn’t feel like I deserve this, you know? Being this close to you? Seeing you happy.”
“So what do you want to do?” You fall in love the moment those words leave your soulmate’s mouth. There are no half-hidden attempts to over-explain what you’re feeling or urges to comfort you for something that isn’t a physical struggle. “How can I make it better?”
You shrug, burrowing into the thin fabric of the shirt as the cool ocean breeze wafts across the backyard.
“Would it be weird if we took things kind of slow for the next while?”
“How slow are you thinking?”
“Not too slow.” You’re quick to reassure your soulmate as you wrap an arm around his waist. Even now, there’s an ache burrowing under your skin at not feeling him pressed up against you. “I think we should date each other and get to actually know one another.”
When he doesn’t say anything for several long moments, you start to worry. It has you babbling, “We don’t have to do it if you don’t want to?”
His hands gently slide over your cheeks and tip your face up until you can see the soft look in Bradley’s whiskey eyes.
“It sounds like a good idea.” He chuckles as his lips press against your forehead. “We’ve moved in extremes since we’ve met. We need to get to know each other, care about each other, more than just the feeling of this bond linking us together.”
You feel like you can barely breathe at the look in your soulmate's eyes as he leans in close enough that you can feel his mustache on your lips.
“What do you say about dinner? Tomorrow night?”
You hum in thought, aching to press your lips to his. His body is a line of heat pressed up against yours, and you want more.
“I’d love to.”
His exhale of joy brushes damply across your lips, and at that moment, you can’t resist pressing upwards. His lips are petal soft and gentle as they slide over yours. It’s a sensation in direct counterpoint to the rough bristles of his mustache. Your arms slide around his thick neck, fingers catching at the furrowed scars on the smooth skin. Bradley’s breath catches as you trace lightly across the slightly raised skin. If he’s this responsive to your touch, what would he do if you were tracing your lips and tongue down his throat?
When he pulls away, you whimper, actually honest-to-god whimper, at the feeling of his skin leaving yours.
“Slow, sweetheart.” He chuckles as he pulls away, a tender smile curving his lips. “We said we’d go slow, right?”
“Fine,” you huff, licking your lips in a futile urge to taste more of your soulmate on your skin. If it’s any consolation, Bradley seems to be just as affected by that slow, languid, blood-boilingly hot kiss as you are.
“Tell me more about your dads.” It’s a plea closer to a demand than it should be. But you have to control yourself. If you look at him any longer, you’ll jump him. You can’t do that to him, not when you’ve just decided to go slow.
“What about them?”
You grin. “How’d they meet?”
“At Top Gun.” He’s got a faraway look in his eyes. “When Goose and Mav came to North Island in ‘86, one of their first stops was the O-Club. It was one of the only places catering to mostly Navy personnel and was quite famous. That’s where they ran into Uncle Ron and Pops.”
“Did they like each other at first sight?”
“I don’t think so, sweets.” You chuckle and shiver as another breeze makes the lights sway over your heads.
“Were they better or worse than we were when we met?”
Bradley grins and opens his arms to you. You melt into his arms and sigh in pleasure at the warmth of him in your arms. His voice rumbles comfortingly in his chest as he continues, “I think they were worse, sweets. Much worse.”
He sounds sardonic and sarcastic, something drier than the desert in his tone.
“So you’re telling me there is worse than calling me “a little thing who just got her position in the Navy on her knees”?” Your tone doesn’t hold any heat because you know while he said something first, you continued it. You’ve definitely given as good as he dished out.
“Shit.”
You giggle at his hushed exhale because as angry and hurt as you were when you heard him say those words, you’ve forgiven him long ago.
“That was a bad night for me, Tink.” He pulls his hands away from you only to tangle them into his curls as anguish and shame twist his features. Half hidden against his chest, you tug him in closer, soothing his pain with your presence as much as you can.
“You have no idea what you looked like that night, did you? Fuck, you looked so beautiful, it took my breath away. I was hanging on to your every word. From the first thing you said to me, I was seconds away from ripping that little sundress off. All I wanted was to lay you out on my bed and never let you go.”
When you inhale, it feels like the ocean-laden breeze burns. If he felt like this on that first day, how come he didn’t act on his feelings?
“Then that fight broke out. All I wanted to do then was protect you. So I grabbed your waist and got you to that bar stool, holding you there with my back to that room so nobody could hurt you. It would’ve been too soon to kiss you then, no matter how much I wanted to, with the heat of your skin imprinted on my fingertips. Too much, too soon. So, after the fight was broken up, I grabbed my drink and tried to look nonchalant. At least, I did until I heard Hangman calling for you. He sounded so worried like he cared so much for you. I assumed then and there, he was your soulmate. So I backed off.”
“I was in a completely shitty mood the rest of the night. I’d never been so close to someone who I thought could be mine. I wanted you, only you. But I managed to convince myself that you weren’t mine, that you would never be mine. I got drunk. So drunk I couldn’t put one foot in front of the other. I let my anger fester, and when it boiled to a fever pitch, I spat those words out when I saw you walk by, at a volume at which I knew you could hear.”
“I’m sorry, Tink.” Bradley’s voice is a growl, a pained one, as he apologizes to you again. “I’d understand if you couldn’t forgive me.”
There’s so much pain on his face you can’t help reaching up until you’re cupping his face in your hands.
“I forgave you a long time ago.”
It feels like an absolution saying those words into the night air. The disbelief on his face cements your decision even more. You forgive Bradley Bradshaw for all of his past sins, and you hope someday he can forgive all of yours, too. You press a kiss to his upturned jaw just because you can.
“There will never be anything but forgiveness between us, darling.”
“But how?” His voice is disbelieving. “How can we get past this?”
“The way we always have been meant to. Together.” Your eyes are soft as you tug on his hands until they wrap around you again. “And maybe, Roo, you should open that mouth and ask me if Jake Seresin is my soulmate next time.”
When he starts to snicker, you laugh, too. He pulls you in closer until he can press his lips to your forehead. You have many questions about your soulmate. For now, standing here at the bottom of the garden at his parent’s house is enough. You have the rest of your life in which to chat with Bradley. It’s a chance you’re not going to give up.

Part 1
Part 2
Starts below the cut!
Ghost was floating, lost in the intoxicating haze of your presence. His fingers wound their way into your hair, tilting your head back and pressing hot, sloppy kisses up your neck, relishing in the heated moans escaping your lips. Finding your mouth supple and accommodating, his tongue lapped up the saliva on your glossy lips and pushed past them, needing to taste more of you. The feeling of your full bodied moan into his mouth, followed by you falling limp against him led him to slide his free hand down from your back, sweeping his arm under your knees and effortlessly picking you up. Your legs wrapped around his waist, ankles struggling to hook together around his midsection as he pinned you against the wall.
“God, Ghost…I need you…please,” you whined, arms wrapping around the back of his neck and trying to press yourself even closer to him. He wasn’t certain, but he could have sworn you were grinding your hips up against him.
“I’m here, I-I’m here,” he groaned, “tell me what you need, love…”
“N…Need you in me…Need you to split me open…”
The words had Ghost taking you off the wall and nearly slamming you down onto the bed. He had stripped himself down to his underwear in record time, giving him enough time to see you unhook your bra. Standing before you as you kneeled at the edge of the bed, he turned you around, pulling your back flush against him, one hand diving into your silky panties.
“I like these on you, princess, did you wear these just for me?”
His low growl sent a shiver down your body as his middle finger slid its way between your labia, not waiting for you to answer. Your little makeout session had left you so unbelievably wet that Simon couldn’t help but slide the finger into your weeping hole. An undeniable moan left your lips as you began to push your hips up into his hand, desperately seeking more of the sweet friction your body craved.
“Can’t just let you take my cock unprepared, sweetheart. Wouldn’t be very nice of me to leave you out of commission for days, now.”
“Please…Ghost…Sir…More…”
He obliged, sliding a second finger in you before pulling you closer against his body, your neck settling into the crook of his elbow as he held you in a chokehold. Your head lolled as your vision grew hazy. He was raging hard against you, enjoying the feeling of rubbing up against you squirming against his hand.
A perverse thought flickered across his mind, the idea of driving his cock deep into your perfect ass, the feeling of making your tight little asshole yield to him and bottoming out in you within the same stroke. All while he would continue to fuck your drooling cunt open with his fingers like this.
The thought was interrupted as you called out for him, voice reaching a fever pitch of heated vocalizations. God, Ghost thought to himself, he was about to make you cum by only giving you two fingers and you had wanted to take his whole cock without prep.
His velvety voice purred into your ear. “Thassit love, come all over my fingers like a good girl… I know you want to…”
You took one last, shuddering breath before your whole body tensed a second, teetering just on the edge - and then releasing all of the tension that had built up just behind your navel with a rush of fluid and a full bodied moan. The arch of your back left him with a perfectly drool-worthy image of your face - mouth open, face flushed, and your wide eyes staring into the top of your skull.
“Feels good, doesn’t it, doll?”
The words hardly registered in your brain and all you could do was nod dumbly.
“Do you think you can take my cock, or do you need a break?”
“Yesh…” Your cheeks were squished in the crook of his arm, slurring your speech. “More pleash Ghosht…”
“Good girl…” he purred next to your ear.
Releasing your head from his grip, he could barely believe as you immediately dropped down onto your hands, swaying your hips side to side in front of him. One hand slapped your ass and teased up your slit while Ghost removed his underwear. Once more, his fingers dipped into you, unable to keep themselves away from your dripping warmth.
Still sensitive from your first orgasm, he easily brought you to the edge of another, holding you there until you began to whine with impatience. Wordlessly, he removed his fingers, leaving you hollow for just a moment. The feeling of his touch at your entrance promised relief to your needy body; one hand grabbed your hips and you coyly pushed back against what you thought was still his fingers until you felt his other hand take hold of you.
Oh.
Ghost let out a long, low groan as he pressed into you, steadily sinking his cock inch by inch into your eager, slippery hole. He was unbelievably thick, and you probably should have taken three of his fingers as an intermediate step before this, but the thought lingered nowhere in your mind as he replaced the hollow in your core with heavenly fulfillment. At no point did he stop to let either of you adjust, he simply pushed his way into your yielding pussy until his entire length had been enveloped in your succulent heat.
“Simonnn, you’re so bigg…” you keened. The words flew immediately to his ego, and in response he gave you a sudden thrust, fully bottoming out in you.
“You take me well, pretty girl. Wasn’t expecting a little thing like you to fit all this cock in you so easy…”
Before you could respond, he startled you by punctuating his words with a quick swat of your ass. You yelped, feeling the rumble of his snickering behind you. He’d taken advantage of your surprise by imperceptibly pulling back, and you hadn’t anticipated his subsequent thrust.
“Si-!”
This time, he didn’t respond, instead beginning a leisurely pace of dragging half his length out of you before easing it back in. Arching your back had him kneading your ample ass, punctuated with the occasional smack on the plumpest sides. At his deepest, he could feel the head of his cock smush against your cervix, leaking precum into your womb.
Though he moved with a far more merciful speed now than he had with his fingers, tension rapidly swelled in your core, threatening to overwhelm you before you’d had the chance to catch your breath. Haze seeped into your mind, leaving you scrambling to find the words to what you urgently needed him to know-
“G-Ghosht…I…Si…I-I…wanna…gonna…pleashh…”
Your eyes unfocused, the wrinkled sheets in your view blurring until you ceased holding your lids open.
“Cum for me again, love.”
At his command, your body responded in prompt obedience; hearing the deep, accented voice set off a series of shivers that traveled through your body like shockwaves. Clenching handfuls of the sheets, you came hard, the built up internal pressure bursting forth in a torrential gush of fluid as you squeezed down on his cock. The shivers built into full body shudders as your mouth opened and released a long, wanton cry that filled the entire room with your resounding voice.
You collapsed into the mattress, hips still firmly held in the air by Ghost’s hands. Gently, he pulled out of you and helped you reposition yourself into laying on your back. He was just about to ask you if you wanted to rest before you hooked a leg around his waist, pulling him to the edge of the bed again.
“M-more…”
“Insatiable, aren’t you, love?”
You looked up at him, a dreamy expression on your face as you murmured, “Wan…wanna make you cum, Si…”
The words had him taking his dripping cock in hand and rubbing it between your labia.
“Do you now? How generous of you, sweetheart…”
His eyes betrayed a deep hunger, one that you ached to fulfill. Despite the threat of danger, you wanted to satisfy him in return.
“Wanna feel you cum in me …”
A deep, territorial growl reverberated through his chest.
“Oh, I will…Fill you up till you’re stuffed…overflowing with my seed…” The last few words he spoke faintly, as if he were keeping them close like cards to his chest.
This time, he entered you without warning, immediately burying himself deep before beginning a series of dizzying thrusts. He fucked you mercilessly, the motion evolving from driving his hips forward into you to pulling you by the hips toward him. Your head lolled with every jerk, feeling him reposition and slide your entire body onto his cock with the ease of using you like a fleshlight.
“Gon…make…you…mine…gon…keep…you…to…my…self…!”
Alternating between each growled word and punishing thrust had the effect of you being unable to string any of them together into a message. The man had felt you sapping his stringent self control since you’d first touched and now he was aware that only a few tattered scraps of it remained. You intoxicated him, gave him just enough to allow the gnawing hunger inside of Simon Riley to emerge with a vengeance. He found himself driven by his desire to attach you to him - permanently. For so long he’d tried to pretend that 141 could fill his need for a family and now he realized that it was not a substitute, but a stepping stone. Through the task force, he’d met you, the woman he needed to begin again with the happier, loving family he’d wanted for so long. The realization filled him with an exhilaration he’d never before known; it spread through every inch of his body until he was brimming with ecstasy.
A tiny sting diverted his attention to his wrist. You had gripped onto it so tightly that your nails had dug into the skin, releasing a small trickle of blood. From the look on your face, he’d overstimulated you to the point of practically falling limp in his hands, save for the hand holding on for dear life and the twitching of your pussy around him. It was a beautiful sight, seeing you blissed out of your mind at his doing. It was something that he wanted to see as a frequent occurrence in the house you would share.
Oh.
The thought overwhelmed him.
“Ah, fuck, I-”
Just a few words left his mouth before they degraded into a deep, filthy moan. He bottomed out in you, intentionally shoving his cockhead against the entrance to your womb, imagining the flood of cum gushing into your uterus, filling you at your deepest and claiming you all for himself.
Weakly, you smiled up at him as he moved you further back onto the bed before collapsing against you, keeping his cock in you to keep the cum from spilling out. Holding you in his arms, the both of you spent, everything faded around him faster than he would have liked.
Ghost woke up the next morning in his cot, alone. The sloppy mess in his pants was the only physical evidence of what he’d just gone through. He seethed quietly. The feeling of you in his arms, the sound of you calling out for him, the sight of you spread out before him -the entire experience as crisp in his head as a memory - it had all been a wet dream. Despite everything, he was no better than he was as an immature teenager.
As he cleaned himself up, his mind returned to the night before. He had driven Price, Soap, and Rudy back to base around one in the morning, failing to convince you to join them. You had insisted on staying with the handful of sloshed Shadow Company contractors remaining at the bar for just a while longer, giving the noticeably tipsy Graves the opportunity to sidle up next to you and tell the Lieutenant that he’d make sure to take plenty good care of you. The drawl of his words elicited another bubbly giggle from you and by God, Ghost’s hand clenched as his side, just wishing to smack the smirk clean off the other man’s face.
Your quarters were located in a different area than his, so he took up watch in a common area where he knew you should pass by on the way to your bed. He stayed up all night. Dawn came, and you hadn’t returned. He’d retired to his room for a quick nap which was when the dream occurred, all in the space of an hour. It lingered with him the entire day as he went through the motions as Lieutenant, busy with tasks that denied him any chance to see you.
Though exhausted, he continued on, trying to ignore the ember smoldering in his chest by pretending a trained killer like him harbored no domestic fantasies nor desire to keep you all to himself.
But his heart leapt at every possibility of him seeing you again.

This Community: A Love Letter <3
When I originally joined Tumblr, it was because reddit was being fucking dumb and I didn't want to support it. I had been a user for almost a decade and it really was frustrating to leave a platform I enjoyed so much. It turns out to have been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I went from a lurker to being active in a wonderful community here on Tumblr. I originally joined because I wanted to see the same memes I got from reddit, and I loved the horny vibe mixed in. It was right when I was beginning to explore myself for the first time in my life, rather than just floating along. When I got here, it took me a bit to find my feet, and holy shit was the effort worth it. I struggled with feeling like I was invading, but so many people took my hand and let me know I was welcome all the same. Whether I knew what I was or not, and because of that I was able to truly immerse myself fully in a vibrant queer community for the first time. I had plenty of interactions with many in the queer community before, but not from the inside like it happened here. I finally was able to figure out something that made me feel comfortable with myself. I realize in hindsight, I had never truly felt at peace. I suspected I might be trans before I came here, but I learned some of what being trans means to me in this place. I was content to leave the story at that! To have been grateful for the small kindnesses afforded to me by those around me. To start to try and help others see the same things I had my eyes opened to, and just move forward. And then this week happened, and it feels like my life is going to have a before and after. In a mere five days I have had so many things occur it takes me paragraphs to even glimpse the surface. Death, fear, bravery, exploration, romance, joy, and hope. I have experienced these things more deeply in a matter of days than I have in the last decades of my life as a guy. I have spent mere weeks as a girl on tumblr, a week in my house as a girl, have yet to try and be a girl in public, and I don't even think I consider myself a woman yet, but my life as a girl has felt like its almost just as long as the life I spent as a man. Its incredible. In the middle of this incredible, horrible, beautiful, and terrifyingly stressful week I didn't know how I was going to make it through each minute let alone get through each day. And then this silly little horny community reached out to me. Everywhere I turned I had people not just offer support when I complained, I had people reach out just to let me know they were there if I needed them. I'm so used to just shoving things down and dealing with it alone that I didn't even know how to accept this much help. Every time I had gotten everything shoved down again I had someone else reassure me that I was allowed to lean on them if I needed. It was incredible. It felt almost coordinated with how many people helped me. And I just don't think it's possible for me to express my love for everyone in this community who has helped me both this week, and in the time leading up to it. Those who have given me tips. Those who have helped me find myself. Those who have made me feel beautiful. Those who have let me lean on them when I needed to cry. Those who just let me know they would worry for me. @xenasaur @justaflatbitch @userwordandpassname @rosieeyes @crocadilly @latenitegirlluv @evergreen-femme @v10l3nt-gl1tch3s @tymera @godincarsnate-blog Thank you. I have already said words to some of you, but there is no chance it accurately gets across how much so many people here have meant for me in the little time I've spent. I have surely missed people here, so please don't think you don't matter if you haven't made the list. It's not just these few people. It's the entire community that gathers together and makes this kind of thing happen. Everyone has played a role in making such a lovely space what it is. Big hugs, much love- Jay

Soapghost Tangled Au
LOOK. I'm certain I'm not the first person to think about this but I Don't Care. This blog is basically just me saying shit about cod to the void anyway and talking like a bunch of people will see it lmao. THIS IS GONNA BE LONG AS FUCK BTW.
Also this shit is gonna feature some good old fashioned nikprice and alerudy and my several headcanons, a few of which I will share for context: First of all, almost everyone is trans in my mind, I won't lie to you. But mostly that's not relevant to the plot besides Soap and Nik are both trans men. Also Ghost is transfem and that's not super relevant but I will be using mostly she/her for her (I hc her using she/her and he/him pronouns) so be prepared. OKAY GOOD This is just gonna be me rambling my ideas in a bulleted list hopefully in the order of the plot.
The story sticks fairly close to the actual movie plot, once upon a time there was a magic flower yadda yadda. Anyway Old Man Shepherd wants to be eternally young yeah
Meanwhile the kings (Price and Nik) are like "let's have another kid", I say another bc Gaz is here also he's adopted <3, and seahorse dad Nik is real, okay great (DO NOT TURN THIS INTO OMEGAVERSE SHIT. HE'S TRANS. A TRANS PARENT.)
Anyway uh oh Nik gets sick (haha rhyme) and Price is like "go get that flower so my husband doesn't DIE thanks), Shepherd is pissed, steals their baby with magic hair
That baby with magic hair is Soap! Who is raised by Shepherd, everyone's favorite (least favorite) manipulative piece of shit!
Some background info on Soap's childhood, it wasn't great being locked in a tower and also. Soap is trans in this (as I've said), he's just gnc, but the long hair. Eehh. Not something he super loves but Shepherd won't let him cut it, obviously. The mohawk was a compromise (yes I know the hair lore but I want him to have a mohawk so shh)
Anyway Soap's 20-something birthday rolls around and he tries to ask Shepherd to go see the glowing lights, Shepherd says no, they argue, Soap asks for paint instead, Shepherd leaves to go get it
Meanwhile Ghost and Graves are robbing the fucking castle and steal the lost prince's crown, Ghost leaves Graves to get caught by the royal guard and then gets chased by a horse named Riley for a while before ditching him and climbing into an abandoned tower, and gets hit with a frying pan
Again, the story continues fairly the same. John makes a deal with this stranger in a skull mask to take him to see the floating lights, the lanterns apparently, and he'll give her her satchel back, Ghost begrudgingly agrees.
Ghost then takes Soap to get some food to convince him to go home and call off the deal, and she takes him to Los Vaqueros Saloon, run by two outlaw husbands and frequented by loads of criminals and bounty hunters
In case it wasn't obvious, Alejandro and Rudy own the saloon. Its patrons are made up of various different operators + Valeria (who IS an operator now but still).
Poor Soap is terrified bc Shepherd told him all people, esp ones like these, are bad news and then a bunch of guys lunge on Ghost to get her bounty and send someone out to go find some guards. Soap stops them, I've Got A Dream happens. Alejandro wants to be a pianist, good for him :)
Meanwhile Shepherd returns, sees Soap is gone, and rolls up right as Soap is saying how glad he is he left and gets pissed
Then the royal guard show up and Rudy and Alejandro help them escape and then call Ghost's dream stupid.
"Go follow your dream, hermano." "I will." "He was talking to him, your dream is stupid."
They get cornered by Graves, the royal guard, and Riley, escape and then get trapped in a cave and nearly drown. Ghost cuts her hand trying to pry away some rocks but it's too dark underwater for her to see. They both think they're gonna die so Ghost tells Soap her real name.
"my real name is Simon Riley. Somebody might as well know." "I have magic hair that glows when I sing." "....what?" "OH MY GOD- I HAVE MAGIC HAIR THAT GLOWS WHEN I SING!!!"
John's good old magic hair saves the day, they escape, they find a clearing to camp out in for the night and Soap uses his hair to heal the cut on Simon's hand, Simon freaks out a little bit it's fine, she's fine
John then asks why Simon changed her name to Ghost, Simon says it's a boring story but John listens anyway. She talks about her father and her brother taunting her with ghosts and skeletons, and when they died it stuck with her. She decided to become a ghost.
Simon asks about John's hair, he tells her that his "father" keeps him in that tower to protect him from people who want to steal his hair, shows her the tiny little brown strand that never grew back and says people want to use him for his hair's healing abilities, it's how he got the big scar on his chin.
Simon leaves to get firewood, and Shepherd emerges from the fucking shadows like a creature and tells Soap to come home with him, to which Soap says no because he Likes Simon, and she's gonna take him to see the lanterns, and she's nice!! Shepherd gets mad, tosses him the satchel and says to give it to Simon and see what she does, that he'll be sorry when she runs away with it, and then leaves
Simon comes back and Soap lies and says everything is fine. Shepherd runs into Graves who wants to kill Simon and makes a deal with him
Then morning rolls around and Simon is awoken by RILEY THE FUCKING HORSE, Soap convinces Riley to be nice and let Simon go for one day because "it's my birthday :)" and she's supposed to take him to see the lanterns
They make their way into town and Simon immediately is like "okay yeah your hair is too long" because people keep stepping on it and gets some kids to braid it. John looks very handsome, Simon is very queer, they run off and have a good time enjoying the town square and all the festivities
At some point Soap notices a mural of the royal family, with a certain golden haired baby that looks very familiar, but quickly brushes it off to dance with the townsfolk and Simon
Then it's time to see the lights! Yay! Simon gets a boat for him and John, tosses Riley a bag of apples that he Definitely Paid For, Okay...Or Mostly Paid For.
I See the Light happens, John gives Simon the satchel and Simon pushes it aside in favor of taking off her mask, just for John.
"but I'm not scared anymore, ye know?" "I think I'm starting to."
AND THEN HE TAKES THE MASK OFF AND. sometimes, I am a genius. Anyway, they get back to shore and Simon sees Graves and is like "I promise I'll be right back" and goes off to just give him the satchel, he doesn't want it anymore he just wants to be done with all this criminal shit, mainly for Johnny.
Graves instead is like "what if I took that magic hair guy instead" and knocks his ass out and ties her to a boat then goes to snatch Soap. Shepherd shows up AGAIN and knocks Graves out like "oh look son I saved you!" And Soap sees the boat with Simon on it, thinks she left him, and goes back with Shepherd
Simon wakes up TIED TO A BOAT WITH THE FUCKING CROWN HE STOLE AND GETS ARRESTED
Graves also gets arrested and Simon freaks out on him when passing him being led to his cell, Graves says that some weird guy showed up and took Soap back home and Simon is locked in her cell
Meanwhile back at the tower, Soap is laying in his bed all sad bc his gf left him, when he realizes the sun crest on the little flag Simon got him at the festival matches suns he's been subconsciously painting for YEARS, that when he tried on that crown Simon stole it fit, that that baby on that mural WAS HIM, that BRO HE IS THE LOST PRINCE.
Then he yells at Shepherd for stealing him away and Shepherd is like "okay fuck you" and plans to lock him up forever
Meanwhile, Simon gets broken out of prison by two cowboys and their gaggle of thieves and bounty hunters and a horse named Riley. Riley takes him to the tower where he climbs up and gets stabbed by Shepherd after seeing Soap LITERALLY CHAINED TO A WALL.
John begs Shepherd to let him heal her, that he'll go with him quietly and never complain if he does and Shepherd agrees and chains Simon up too so he can't follow them. Soap goes to heal her and Simon slices off a bunch of his hair. Shepherd rapidly ages and falls out of the window and dies, L moment. Simon dies too tho, sad.
For real though, "You were my new dream" "And you were mine" fucks me up every time. Anyway, Simon dies, Soap's magic tears of love or something brings her back to life.
"Did I ever mention...I like brunettes" "PFF- YER AN ARSEHOLE!" "Sorry Johnny, there can only be one blonde person in this relationship!"
Anyway happily ever after and all that, Soap gets to reunite w his long lost fathers and brother.
Look idk how they recognize him okay. Father's intuition? Blue eyes? The big fat scar on his chin that wasn't ACTUALLY from someone stealing Soap (he was a stupid baby)? Idk could be any or all of those.
THE END!!!!!! Thank you to those who sat here and read ALL of this <3 big preesh! Okay idk how to end this so bye

Step One To Using This Blog Again, REVIVE LTAI (Let's Talk About It, a series where I grab a topic from the community and talk about it, WOOOO)
LTAI Part Four, Sex Negativity
So, unfortunately, there is an attitude floating around the aspec community that comes up from time to time that is extremely harmful. It's harmful not just to the community as a whole but specifically to alloaro and sex positive ace members. Sex negativity, let's talk about it.
What Is Sex Negativity?
Sex Negativity is the attitude or belief that sex is inherently bad or immoral. A very small but sometimes very vocal section of the community expresses this attitude. It's something I and many other alloaro's have faced when interacting with aspec spaces. Common sex negative things you might see are posts expressing how sex is disgusting, anyone who feels sexual attraction is bad or wrong, and just generally making fun of allosexual's and their attractions.
Sex Negativity Vs. Sex Repulsion
There is a very important distinction to make between Sex Negativity and Sex Repulsion. Sex Repulsion is an entirely valid feeling and should be just as accepted as Romance Repulsion in the aspec community. People who are sex repulsed don't impose their repulsion on others. To simplify my point a little, and make it clearer:
Sex Repulsion: "I am repulsed by sex personally, but have no issues regarding if others have sex or not" (Valid)
Sex Negativity: "I am repulsed by sex, and believe anyone who has sex is immoral or bad" (Not Valid)
Combating Sex Negativity In The Aspec Community
To keep things simple, heres a list of ways you can help combat and curb Sex Negativity within the aspec community, and make it a much more welcoming place for allosexual and sex positive members:
Calling out posts displaying Sex Negative attitudes
Uplifting alloaro and sex positive voices (within general aspec spaces)
Understanding that alloaro's and sex positive aces are an important part of the aspec community, and shouldn't be othered or pushed aside because of their relationship with sex
While obviously not a super comprehensive list, those are just a few little things that can be done to help curb this attitude in the community. The aspec community is for all aspec identities, from aces, to aroaces, to alloaros and every identity on the ace and aro spectrums respectively. We need to be mindful of that when expressing ourselves and our beliefs. We share this space with each other, and it should be welcoming to everyone within the bounds of the aspectrum. Peace out losers 🍍

hello! from your blogs i figured that you might be working with Athena so i wanted to ask for advice.
recently i started to form a connection with Athena and i can feel great support coming from her when im asking for help.
i would like to show my gratitude but i dont exactly know how… what would she like?
also, how could i connect better with her? i tried meditation but sometimes it’s hard to focus..
thank you!
Hey friend! Thank you for the ask!
You did guess correctly, I worship Athena and I used to work with her for a little bit. Here are a few things you can do to thank her:
Set up an altar for her (this can just be a candle if needed. It doesn’t have to be a big thing).
Say a prayer of gratitude
You could also write a prayer or some poetry about her or her domains (what she’s the Goddess of).
Leave her an offering. This could be tea, water, a snack (for some reason dark chocolate comes to mind), a crystal, or something else you think she might like.
Do some art that incorporates her symbols
Do some art and dedicate it to her
Place her symbols around your home/room
As for ways to feel closer to her you can:
Learn about her myths
Learn a new skill and dedicate it to her
Play strategy games
Read a book
Share your knowledge with others
Do some crotchet, knitting or embroidery. She is the Goddess of weaving after all
If you have an altar or candle dedicated to her, light it and just hang out with her.
Do your homework (if you have any) and dedicate it to her
Learn how to write her name in Greek. This is something I do for all my Deities. It just makes me feel a bit closer to them and their country of origin
Whenever you feel her presence just say hello and talk to her. I tend to feel closest to my Deities when I'm having a regular conversation with them.
I know these are pretty short lists but I didn’t want to overwhelm you. There is heaps of information on Athena out there so if none of these float your boat it shouldn’t be too difficult to find some more ideas. I hope this helped :)

i was a bit confused about which blog to send this too because it looks like it got reblogged to your final fantasy sideblog and your main at different times. but! you know me, always happy to send prompts! 21 because i think you'll like it, any female character(s), and either 13 or 24, whatever you're feeling. not 100% certain what your current list of main fandoms is so no specific character for that either, although you know all my old xv favs if you're still peripherally into that. (i never really leave a fandom once i join it, but i know not everyone is like that!)
I dug it back from my sideblog because I remembered that the prompts were fun, this is why I guess. I didn't think it would cause problems because it was on my sideblog back in 2018.
Anyway. I wanted to answer all these and post them all at once but I actually don't have time or brain power to be thinking about all that at once. Get the one that actually immediately made me produce something, finally finished three weeks later.
Someone forgot to close the door, Ignis thinks, halfway there, and rolls over to catch complete darkness against the pillow. Not to fall back asleep, no, just to soften the blow – over the last few years he has gotten used to forcing himself awake at the first hint of consciousness, to power through headache and sickness. There is always something else to do, and no bed ever worth sleeping in, and the concept of lazy mornings had lost its appeal long before mornings themselves became a distant memo—
Then, sharply, he remembers.
There is nowhere urgent to be.
He opens his eyes to a line of gold against the grey walls. There is no open door, no buzzing neon lamp abandoned in a hallway, no bunk beds in a moldy, windowless cave in Leide. No stale air shared with five to fifteen hunters and soldiers.
There is his room, in Cape Caem, where he hasn't come back in years. There is a bed he found just as he left it, now unmade and warm around him. There is a day ahead of him, a real day, where no one will be asking anything of him.
There's sunlight, crossing through, from where the blinds don't quite meet the window, to the other side of the room. They would need fixing later, Ignis thinks, for a moment elated purely at the prospect of adding an item to the todo list that isn't an immediate pit of despair. There is the dust of several months of silence floating in the air above his head. They catch the light with every lazy twist of air, turning orange, pink, white for half a second before another joins the dance. They turn to thin, elongated rays of rainbows when the tears start to fill his eyes. He can't help it. He's seen the dawn rise over the rubble of Insomnia for a month, leaving the world every day in a hazy state of sideration. He knows the power that the sun can have on people who have not seen in in years. But he approached it the same way he approached the forever night – pushing through, pulling people along with him like a dog who can't stop biting down, until words like reconstruction efforts and trade routes and provisional government came out of mouths other than his and without his prompting.
This is where he remembers for the first time what sunlight feels like. Out of the city with nothing but plains and the sea around him. In the silence of a bedroom that has survived by miracle. For the first time in ten years, he watches specks of nothing float in the air and shine, and he realizes what they've done.
Wiping his face with his hand, he extends an arm to grab his glasses on the nightstand, stretches, then gets up to go find Noctis.

I’m so genuinely intrigued and curious abt that post you made abt reaching out to the authors when you find a paper you want to read bc.. how are you finding these papers in the first place?? Do they show up on your tiktok fyp?? Do you just search up whatever topic you wanna read about on google scholar? I think that that’s really cool that you do that and I also would like to read about research that like actually interests me and not just papers assigned in class but I dunno where I would start looking for them. Sorry this ask is probably so random but do you have any tips?? lmao 😭
WHAT a fun question!!! of course i have tips!!!
first of all....free urself from the tiktok fyp i am begging u <3 like. ok i am sure there are people on there who are sharing academic articles and such but....more often with tiktok at least in my experience u just end up getting stuck in an endless scroll rather than actually following up on any interesting reading/research suggestions. also i think it is just like. a valuable and enriching skill to be able to think of things on ur own that u want to learn about and then go and find resources urself! like. approach tiktok w caution perhaps it could be helpful for some but i worry a bit that we are all becoming a little too reliant on algorithms to feed us Content, y'know?
anyway! as for how i find papers 2 read that interest me! most often it is a matter of finding something that sparks my interest + then going down a rabbit hole. and there are soooooo many ways to do this!! the internet is an amazing resource!!!! here is a list of some ways that i find interesting articles:
tumblr <3 lol i follow various blogs that post interesting stuff abt theory + academia every so often, and if i see a quote that interests me i'll go and try to find the article it came from! (you could also use tiktok this way if you've found some good people to follow! my main hesitation w tiktok is just that. it's an endless scroll + an algorithm which are both 2 things that i find distracting, and why i prefer tumblr)
substack - same kinda deal as tumblr; i subscribe to bloggers who write about topics that interest me and if they cite research in their posts i'll go try to find that research to read it myself
news articles/blog posts/essays that i come across online - again, if there's some interesting research cited, i'll go and try to find it
search by writer - if you keep hearing about an academic or someone suggests "oh read some so-and-so," go and look up so-and-so and see what they've written + what u can find online for free! most really famous/influential academics will have some free pdfs of their more influential work floating around online, and for smaller/niche academics--email them!
along the same lines - if u find an article or essay or speech by an academic and u like it, go find their biography page on the website of whatever school they teach at! schools will usually list professors' work, or at least a few examples, and you can find more stuff to read from that same person whose article you enjoyed. this is especially helpful if ur researching something kinda niche
wikipedia! people shit on wikipedia all the time as if it's not a "real source" but that's simply false! wikipedia is a great jumping-off point if you're interested in a broad topic but don't know where to start. go scroll through the wikipedia article about said topic and see what's cited there to get an idea of where you might be able to find some interesting articles/research to narrow ur focus!
look through the bibliography/citations on other research! if ur reading a book or article on an interesting topic + want to learn more, actually take a minute to scan through the citations and see if any titles catch ur eye!
ask people for recommendations! if u have an old/current professor or a friend or something who u know is interested in the same topic as u, ask if they have any reading recommendations!
if ur a university student--take advantage of that shit!!! look thru the papers on ur syllabus and scan the citations of the most interesting ones for further reading or go look up the writers u like best from the course to find more stuff they've written! look at the class listings for classes u aren't taking and if ur interested, ask those professors if they'd be willing to share their reading lists with you! keep an eye out for free lectures or events on new topics that interest you as a jumping-off point for finding new things to learn about! ask ur friends in other majors what they're learning about and go look it up if it interests you!
go to the library and look through the nonfiction section for topics ur interested in; check out books with cool titles! if they're boring, u can just return them
go to thrift stores or used bookstores and do the same thing! look for nonfiction books with interesting titles! i loooooooooove love love love looking through gender studies sections of bookstores for nonfiction--and then if i find a book i like, guess what that book's gonna cite?? more articles + books!!!!!! there is so much research + knowledge in the world just waiting to be shared!!!!
anyway. these are just some ways that i have found interesting new things to learn about! it sounds like u are currently a student--and like, trust me, i get that when ur constantly being assigned readings for classes it can just become a drag. but college is an AMAZING resource; i still go back and reference old notes from school to find research that i'm interested in, and some of my classes introduced me to articles that i still return to + cite today. research can be so so so fun + rewarding when ur just doing it for the joy of learning; the key really is to treat it like a little spiderweb. maybe most of ur assignments are boring, but this one article for class was really interesting and u actually find urself wanting to learn more--look at the research that article cited! google the names of the writers to see what else they've written! ask ur prof if they have any more suggestions similar to that article! the possibilities are endless!!
+ if ur a student, ur institution probably has access to a whole bunch of research databases where u can find articles + books for free, which is amaaaaaaaazing take advantage of that shit. but i am not currently a student, so my process for finding articles usually goes:
google + see if a free pdf magically pops up (happens more often than you'd think honestly)
failing that -- if it's a book, i check the online collection at my library + also on openlibrary and project gutenberg and zlibrary; for articles i usually check library genesis (sometimes i look for books here too) or sci-hub (usually works best if you search by doi)
failing that -- if it's an article, i go hunt down the email address of whoever wrote it and email them to ask for access! for books, if you really really want to read it you can usually put in a request at your local library for them to get it, but sometimes i do just have to give up if i can't find a book for free online anywhere :(
hopefully some of this was helpful !! and if ur looking for nonfiction book recs i have a post here with some stuff i've read over the past year or two and i also have a post here with like...some suggestions for intro gender studies/queer theory reading (mostly articles)!

Kicking it Old School
Alright, so the (American) government being the asshole it is, they got mad that we did the things that we have written into the constitution, namely community organizing and using our right to free speech and assembly to voice decent to the existing genocide occurring in Palestine, opposing the misuse of our tax dollars to fund said genocide, and point out that while they can not be bothered to reach across the aisle on any other issue that would benefit Americans, namely utilizing those billions and in some case TRILLIONS of tax dollars to provide help to struggling people in our country, they could agree to attempt to silence the millions of voices across the nation for their use of a platform that was developed outside of the country because of a hypothetical fear that they manufactured of a foreign nation doing the thing that American made social media platforms (including big t that I'm posting from right now) are already doing. Even though the data is housed locally for American users by an American company. Even though the tenuous "fear" they have is that the parent company of Tiktok, Byte Dance, which is located in China, has no direct control over Tiktok itself, which is based in Singapore, an entirely separate country that the Chinese Government does not have sway over (Just a reminder for Senator Cotton, the ignorant racist who refused to listen to the information provided by the CEO of Tiktok, a Singaporian National).
So the manufactured fear has allowed them to oppose a vast network of community organization, with no real enforcement to be had, which is a not so polite reminder that VPN's exist, and can be used to evade all of this. But regardless, not everyone is going to be able to afford the VPN option, and there should be a free option for community organization. So here we are, coming back to our roots, the OG, the classic, rebirth of the 2010's era, the tumblr blog has returned. I deleted my original tumblr years ago. I'm a public person, to the point that my own home is highly visible, albeit a bit tedious to watch since the one space people can see in to is where I sleep and watch tv. But being that my content was always intended to be humerous, if a bit jaded and dark, I figure now is the time to use my extensive talents and creative skills start doing something that I've wanted to do for years. If this takes off, I might transition to a full time hosted blog, but I'm a fan of grass roots starting points, and truthfully, there's not much more grass roots than tumblr. Additionally, the tools and skills of the trade for podcasting are available to me as well, and I'm not opposed to it, since I already knowledgable in the creation, and I could easily do things with it. Who knows, maybe this is the start of my full time professional career, but who knows. Regardless, I'm going to list a few things you can expect from me on my page moving forward. - Anime content
LOOOOOVE me some Anime. I don't interact a ton with the fandoms, mostly because there are some super questionable and problematic ideas (ships) floating around the internet. That being the case, I'll mostly talk about the ones I love most, namely One Piece, because I live for the display of leftist rhetoric and dispensation of Justice and Joyboy Wonder that is Luffy and his crew.
-Politics
I'm more than a little comfortable discussing politics. I've been involved as a volunteer lobbyist in the past, and I engage with and regularly review content revolving around national and international politics, and I think it's important to not avoid discussing it. My takes will not always be perfect, but I generally center them around the ideas that people should always come before companies, and people can generally make decisions for themselves regarding self identity and bodily autonomy. Science will never be political to me, and regardless of my personal religious beliefs, science will make the decisions for me regarding health and wellness.
-Tea
I am a lover of all things tea. I have a talent I have developed for a while now, of making home brewed loose leaf tea, and I enjoy sharing that knowledge and information with others. Tea is very much a special interest for me, on par with One Piece and Minecraft. So you will definitely see stuff like tea recipes and resources from me regularly. I have for some time now had a dream of owning my own tea shop, and I will absolutely achieve that some day. And yes, my love of this stems from my love of Uncle Iroh.
-Cats and Animals in General
I have two cats, Shadow, who is pictured in my current PFP, and Poppie, the gremlin boy. I intend to someday have a service dog again, and when that happens, you will be introduced to said dog, but for now, it's me and my demons. I have this desire to have a small plot of land with a few farm animals to watch over, namely a few hens for eggs, maybe a mini-cow or some goats to produce fertilizer, but also I want live in the middle of the woods, so like, who knows how that will shake out. I'm a four seasons kind of person, and northern woods tend to have that. That is for the future to decide, but for now, it's just me and my cats.
-Lifestyle stuff
The category is broad, but includes all kinds of things. Home tech, cooking, discussions on queerness, and life tips and advice. I tend to write some of these from the perspective of me to my past self, telling things I wish I had known then that I know now.
-Music
Less focused on it's discussion, and more on presentation. I have a decently expansive taste, that only really excludes modern pop country, which I view as terrible. That said, old country, such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and the like, are among some of my favorites. That said, I'm also a hiphop head, and I've been to more underground rap shows than any other type of live show. -Mental Health
I'm mentally ill. I have been diagnosed with three separate mental health disorders, as well as ADD, and although I have never been officially tested, I am more than likely on the Autism Spectrum. I have lived a rather colorful life full of interesting choices, and I was not always given the grace I needed to grow. So from time to time, I'll have things to say on mental health. I'm not one to answer questions for others about their own mental health, because I know this is something that needs to be handled by professionals, but I will always do my best to be up front and honest, because I hate the idea that the stigma of mental health problems would prevent someone from living a full life.
I am looking forward to this. If things on tiktok continue, I'm still going to try to be active on tumblr, because diversifying your engagement can be beneficial. If you want more info about me, check out my other pages, including my link tree.
Stay safe everyone.

Hi! I know almost nothing about Arthuriana, except some few stories that we read ten years ago in Middle School in English class. I would want to know a little more about the historical context, the origins, the meanings and the orders of all those legends, but I don’t know where to begin. Do you study them in school/uni or do you research about them on your own? Thank you!
Hi! No, I've never really studied Arthuriana, though we touched upon it a little at university during some of our English Literature classes, but in very broad strokes. Plus our professor made us read the book she wrote on the similarities between Arthuriana and the Latvian epic Lāčplēsis (don't know about my classmates, but I read it - it was pretty interesting, but I still found it funny that she was essentially forcing people to read her book). Frankly speaking, I wouldn't say I do research about it now either - I just read whatever works I find available online, choosing them based on what I've heard about them and what links I find floating around on tumblr. Regarding the historical context and origins, some years ago I read a pretty comprehensive book that was like a summary of previous research on the historical origins of Arthuriana, but it was in Russian - "Меч короля Артура. Так рождалась легенда" (The Sword of King Arthur. So the Legend Was Born) by Vadim Erlikhman, so I don't think it will be of much use because it is hardly translated into English. It has a long bibliography which includes a lot of books and research works in English, but I don't know which of them are the most useful.
As to where to begin... it’s a difficult question, especially since a lot of these legends contradict each other more or less because they belong to different traditions. I think it helps if you already have an idea which characters or events in particular you would like to read about, because then you can start with the texts focused on them and then move to other characters or events if you decide that you enjoy these legends in general. @fuckyeaharthuriana has a lot of useful rec lists (links in blog description), including those sorted by character. I can also suggest some works that I enjoyed the most, but please bear in mind that I am far from being an expert - I read several texts last year in the wake of watching BBC Merlin and The Green Knight, and this year started devouring basically all texts I could find after reading Le Morte d'Arthur, but I haven't read the Vulgate, for example, and some other things that, I believe, are considered basics, while having read some more obscure texts that caught my attention but are not as fundamental. Anyway...
Yvain: Knight of the Lion by Chrétien de Troyes - this one has everything: adventures, love, friendship, active female characters (Lunete my best friend Lunete), an Animal Sidekick, and a happy ending after a lot of tribulations. The main character is Sir Yvain, son of King Uriens and Morgan Le Fay, and the story is about him falling in love with a widow of a knight he killed, managing to win her affection but then losing her trust and having to win it back while doing a bunch of heroic deeds on the way. Quite long but I found it a lot of fun.
The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnell for Helping of King Arthur - I’m linking the translation I read, but there are many of them available online. It’s a short and fun romance in which a knight captures King Arthur and challenges him to find out what women desire the most or lose his head. His nephew Gawain decides to help him and ends up having to marry an ugly lady who helped him find the answer, but then it turns out that her ugliness is actually a curse, which the answer he discovered helps him undo.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight - I read it in translation by Bernard O’Donoghue, for the simple reason that it was the one I stumbled upon in a bookstore, but I can’t find it online. There are several other available, however; the one I’m linking is by Jessie Weston. With a movie recently being out, you probably know the gist of the plot: a green stranger arrives at king’s court and challenges Arthur’s knights to give him a blow of an axe and then, a year later, receive the same blow in return. So Gawain accepts the challenge and chops the Green Knight’s head off, but he puts the head back on, and now Gawain is due to lose his head in a year. As he rides off to meet his fate, he stays at a castle belonging to a married couple, where his honour is tested (and things get pretty gay).
The “Arthurian” Portion of the Roman de Brut by Wace - this one is not one of my favourites, to be honest, even though the language is really beautiful in some parts, but I think it’s important. It tells about Arthur’s ancestors, Uther’s rise to power, Merlin’s origins (which I found the most interesting part), Arthur’s rise to power, various conquests and death. Mostly conquests, which is why I wasn’t too engrossed.
Le Morte d’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory (Volume 1, Volume 2) - this is one of those foundational works, a XV century attempt to put all the main Arthurian legends together. Arthur’s birth and the start of his reign, Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan and Isolde, the quest for the Holy Grail, the fall of Camelot - it’s all here. There are various editions, but I don’t know which to suggest, because I made a questionable decision to read the original (the one I’m linking) which is not very easy to read because of the old language.
Prose Tristan and Povest ‘o Trystchane - I love the Tristan and Isolde stories not so much because I like the main couple but because they’re usually a lot of fun. Shenanigans, wild adventures, horniness, the “everyone’s a little in love with everyone” vibes... My preferred version of all I’ve read is Tristan’s part of Le Morte d’Arthur, but these two are also cool. They’re pretty similar until the second one (the XVI Belarusian version) starts diverging greatly (there’s a whole subplot where Tristan, Isolde, and Guinevere travel to save Arthur from captivity, it’s wild).
Morien - a Dutch romance about a young Moorish knight who goes on a quest to find his biological father and ends up having some adventures with Gawain and Lancelot. I like it because searching for one’s father is such a... normal reason for a quest, something perfectly understandable to a modern person, unlike many of the more outlandish ideas that appear in some other romances.

Uber's Hard Mode part 2
The Scene starts inside the RUINS. FRISK and CHARA are within a room filled with fallen leaves, two staircases lead up to a raised platform that contains a door at the end of it. a shining yellow spark is between the two staircases, a save point. TORIEL is on the platform. Frisk walks to the save point and presses it.
CHARA: The shadow of the ruins looms above, filling you with Determination. FRISK: Thank you... time to move on then. Frisk and Chara follow Toriel as she explains the function of puzzles. the two had heard this explanation many times before, and simply waited while Toriel pushed four buttons to solve the puzzle and opened the door, beckoning Frisk forward. CHARA: ready for the hardest puzzle in the entire underground? FRISK: you know it. TORIEL: To make progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry, I have labeled the ones that you need to flip. CHARA: As per usua- TORIEL: Ehh? CHARA: ? FRISK: Huh? TORIEL: It seems that the labeling has worn away. Oh dear. This might be far more challenging then I anticipated... Both Frisk and Chara burst out laughing. TORIEL: ...Have I said something wrong my child? FRISK: No, I just... it's nothing. TORIEL: Very well. Toriel walks to the other side of the room CHARA: Ok, I was not expecting that. FRISK: what do you mean? I thought you already knew this was hard mode and whatever? CHARA: that's literally all that I know. everything else I have to find out for myself, like the bandage not helping you run anymore. I had to look in your inventory to find that out. FRISK: interesting. well, time to attempt the best puzzle in the underground, hard mode version. Frisk takes a few seconds to remember how the puzzle is supposed to be solved outside of the labels, and flips the proper switches, going to Toriel who complements them and leads them into the other room where a dummy is located. TORIEL: As a human living in the underground, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation. However, worry not! The process is simple. when you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time, I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the Dummy. Frisk walks over to the Dummy and triggers an encounter. the color leeches from the surroundings once again, and the buttons appear, along with the soul. CHARA: *you encountered the dummy Frisk moves their hand to the ACT button and then selects 'talk' from the list that appeared. CHARA: *you talk to the Dummy *... *it doesn't seem much for co- DUMMY: Oh? are you training for a fight? I can help! The Dummy shakes and what appears to be stuffing flies everywhere as projectiles. Frisk is caught off guard by this, but dodges all of the cotton. CHARA: *The dummy shakes slightly. Frisk picks ACT again, but goes to Check this time CHARA:* A cotton heart and a button eye, it seems this time it may truly try. The Dummy shakes once more and cotton flies everywhere, Frisk begins dodging again, but one of the cotton balls catches them by surprise and the soul floating in front of Frisk smacks into it... the cotton ball bounces off harmlessly, dealing no damage. Frisk looks confused and purposely runs into another cotton bullet, it also bounces off with no damage. Frisk chuckles to themselves after this. CHARA: *Dummy rocks around absentmindedly. Frisk chooses the talk option again. CHARA: *You talk to the Dummy. DUMMY: Oh, we're talking now... uhh... umm... uhh... oh crap my mind just went blank... this is so awkward... uhh... GOT TO GO, SORRY! CHARA: *the Dummy ran away..? *YOU WON! *You earned 0 XP and 0 gold Color returns to the area as the fight ends TORIEL: Ahh... the dummy must just be shy. anyway, come now. Toriel exits the room, Frisk and Chara have a short chuckle over what just transpired, before following Toriel. end scene.

Hello!! I love your comfort-style writing and Coriander story, your whump recovery is honestly some of the best I've read (especially your collaboration with @whumpzone). I wanted to start a whump/recovery story page, but I wasn't sure how to start and go about creating a story and I'm not entirely sure of how to navigate my page to begin with. Any advice or tips for me? Anything is greatly appreciated! (no pressure ofc)
Hi! Thank you very much! I’m very happy to hear that you like my writing. 🥰 (I’m also tagging @whumpzone so that she’ll see the praise!)
This is just my five cents and I think there’s lots of ways to go about this, so feel free to use what you like and discard the rest. ☺️
How to create a story:
People have different strategies for writing, some are discovery writers who have the loosest of plans and then just write and see where that takes them, others make elaborate spreadsheets and mind-maps where they plan out everything they want to happen in their story before they start to write, and most people fall somewhere in between. This is a matter of personal taste and you could experiment with both to see what you like.
When I started writing about Lydia and Coriander I had the idea that I wanted to write a gregarious caretaker with lots of friends who also got involved in the whole recovery process, I knew that I wanted to try my hand at putting my own spin on some of the tropes that I had seen floating around the Box Boy Universe (First bath/First meal/wound reveal and treatment/etc) and I had written my very first post. After that I just improvised. 😁
Nowadays, I keep a few notes on new chapters I want to write and where I want the story to progress to, but I still mostly improvise. My advice to you would be to think a bit about the main characters, what you want them to be like, to think a little bit about what you want to happen in your story and and how you want to put your own spin on the recovery story, and then just start writing and posting. Just jump in! 😉
How to navigate your page:
You can only pin one page to the top of your blog and Tumblr only allows a set amount of links to each page. I made this master list first and when I had more links to posts than I could fit, I made this master list. (I see some people use Google Docs to keep longer master lists together, but I read Tumblr on my phone and that doesn’t work very well for me as a reader, so I don’t recommend that.) It is really important to have and update a master list so that people can find your work. I like to have chapter numbers, too.
How to get good engagement?
(I have got this question before by @poetryofdory and I’m reusing my advice to them here.)
The following are things that I think can help:
- Keep a good and updated master list of your work so that people easily can navigate your blog and find more of your writing.
- try to use relevant tags and to find tags which are popular in the genres you write in so that new people can find your stuff.
- In the beginning, I posted quite often, like every few days, and I think that made people find my writing more easily.
- interact with other people’s writing and be generous with commenting, reblogging, writing asks and so on.
- do participate in common events (such as Whumptober in the Whump community), it will help people discover your writing.
- people often do a post where they introduce themselves and tag their favourite blogs. I think that is a good idea because lots of people will see it. (And people get really happy to be acknowledged.)
- I think it is possible to try different times for posting, to make sure you post on a time when people are active and will see it. I also see some people reblog themselves for different time zones. (That requires a good master list not to get confusing.) I have never done any of those things because to me it seems too much like work and this is a hobby that I want to keep fun and stress-free, but that is one idea to try.
Best of luck! I’m looking forward to reading your writing!
Perhaps other people would like to share their thoughts and advice?
