I found a patch of American Hazelnut trees in the woods today and I touched them and thought about how they evolved here over millions of years and almost cried

After my first and only houseplant pretty much died recently, i got a new one! This plant is my child and I am going to make sure it does not suffer the same fate, knowing more about how to care for them now.
Today was busy with a lot of things, but I managed to finish some genetics excercises as well as maths yesterday. I'm gonna go for a quick run this evening still, repot this plant and then (hopefully) head to bed early 🪴💚🪴

How easy a plant is to take care of (if you’re the kind of person who tends to neglect watering) can be directly related to the leaf thickness and size.
thicker leaves store more water, and are built to go longer periods without water. this is why succulents and cacti grow in very dry areas and ‘melt’ when over watered. If you tend to overwater, a small terracotta pot is a good place to plant a dessert plant, as it can only hold so much water, and the terracotta absorbs excess water.
Plants with green thick stems are also very easy to take care of, as as long as there’s green, it can still grow leaves. The most extreme case of this is orchids which can grow new leaves from nothing as long as they have healthy roots
