The eager waiter
Written for @hinnymicrofic, 10 July: Kind
The waiter arrived at their table for the third time since they had arrived at the restaurant. Every time Harry looked back at the menu, he showed up.
“The appetisers are on the house,” he said with a bit of a bow as he put the plate down. “Such an honour to have both of you here.”
“You are too kind,” Ginny told him politely.
“My pleasure, my pleasure,” he said eagerly. “If you need anything, I’ll be right over there.”
“Thanks,” Harry said. “We’ll let you know when we’re ready to order.” He watched the waiter walk away but kept glancing their way every few seconds.
Ginny inhaled sharply and shared a telling look with Harry. “He’s intense.”
“Really?” Harry told her with a grin. “I hadn’t noticed.”
She looked back down at the menu. “Should’ve agreed to go to a muggle restaurant like you suggested.”
Harry finally got a chance to look at the starters. “You should have. He is watching us like a hawk and drawing all the attention to us. I can’t even propose here, your parents would read it in the Evening Prophet before we could make it home.” He flipped the page to look at the main courses.
There was a beat of silence. “Are you planning to propose?” Ginny asked softly.
He looked up to see her smile eagerly at him, her face bright. He shrugged shyly, fiddling with the menu. “Been meaning to but I never seem to find the right time. I don’t think this is it.”
She snorted. “He may faint from excitement,” Ginny said with a nod towards the waiter.
“Ah,” Harry said. “It isn’t a proper proposal unless someone faints.” He smiled at her again.
Ginny shook her head. “George’s proposal was way over the top.”
“Angelina didn’t seem to think so,” he replied.
“That’s why they’re made for each other,” Ginny said.
Harry hummed in agreement. “Indeed...” He locked eyes with her. “Now that I have given you a head’s up, you can think of your response until I find the right moment to do it.”
Ginny tilted her head. “Harry...” She shook her head softly. “What do you think?”
He looked at her warningly. “Don’t tell me! You’re going to take all the fun out of asking.”
She grinned and looked down at her menu. “Alright.”

They exited the restaurant and Ginny looked up in surprise as an owl flew towards them. Harry held out his hand so it could land there.
“Auror stuff?” Ginny asked with concern.
Harry plucked the letter from its leg and looked. “No.” He shook his head with a slight frown. “It’s from your parents. They said they have urgent news but not to worry.”
“That is worrying,” Ginny let out.
Harry nodded. “I know. Let’s go over there and see what’s going on.”
He let her go first as they walked into The Burrow. It was quiet in the house.
Ginny walked into the living room. “Mum? Dad?”
Suddenly several people appeared from behind couches and doors. “Surprise!”
Ginny stalled, confused. “It’s not my birthday, is it?”
Harry got down on his knee just in time for her to turn around.
She gasped and smiled happily. “... You planned this.” She looked around at her family and dearest friends looking on eagerly.
“Did I miss it?” George’s voice came from behind him. Harry looked up to see the waiter enter as he rapidly morphed back into George.
Ginny looked back at him in utter surprise, and he smiled at her. “Will you marry me?”

“How Bad was Snape Really?
Is Snape hated more because he was awful or because he was awful to characters we love? Snape is judged as irredeemable by a lot of the fan base for the way he treated children, which is fair, however the same fan base loves it when characters they dislike have awful things done to them. Hagrid giving Dudley a pigs tail is brushed aside. Crouch Jr turning Malfoy into a ferret is seen as hilarious and I haven't come across too many people who felt that was a suspect thing for Moody to do. The twins enlarging Dudleys tongue doesn't cast any doubts on their character. If Snape had threatened to poison Dracos pet instead, or made mean comments about Pansy rather than Hermione would he receive as much hate?”
There are also comments about James hexing anyone he sees, and he and Sirius being worse when they’re defending Snape.
I know you’re getting a lot of these, sorry if you don’t like it, but it’s interesting to hear your thoughts about these things (I didn’t send the other ones)

How bad was Snape really? - Absolutely Terrible.
The assumptions that I dislike Snape purely because of his actions toward Harry and Sirius (my beloved characters) rings entirely false when I list out the things he's done:
Supported a hate group and was a bigot.
He was a terrible friend to Lily.
He abused students under his care (not just Harry).
He probably turned off a lot of people from Potions - like a whole decade of students - which impacted Aurors and Healers and such.
He was a loyal DE until ONE PARTICULAR PERSON was in danger
and he would've continued if that hadn't happened.
I am sure there are better lists but at this point, I can't think of them. (too tired I guess).
As for the others:
I criticize Hagrid, the twins and other characters - including James, Harry and Sirius - when they do something wrong. Including the things mentioned.
While I don't hate them for the few terrible things they've done - it isn't a double standard because they do nothing on the scale of what Snape does.
Snape is terrible. He abuses children. He abuses his power. He doesn't care about anyone else. He just does what he does out of guilt for Lily - not because it's the right thing to do.
Jr I don't care about enough. I certainly didn't find it okay.
Anyway. It's not a double standard. Snape sucks.

hi hello :)) im sure you've been asked this a million times before but romione headcanons??
i have but i literally love sharing them and i always have new ones (especially since the last time i posted them here)… so they’re below the cut because they’re extensive. i may go more in depth to certain ones in the future, but these are surface level for now.
ron is 6’4” while hermione is 5’6”
personally i headcanon ron scrawny as hell and hermione to be midsized
the “alternate house” thing isn’t real for either of them they’re both such gryffindors through and through
they don’t talk about him leaving during the horcrux hunt except for one time, in the tent after xenophillius’ alone without harry listening
they do however talk about the deluminator after the way and try to figure out why the hell it did that
they sent owls back and forth constantly when hermione went back to school — they owe errol and pigwidgeon actual reparations
they didn’t really plan having rose, they had talked about it but they weren’t like “let’s have a kid” they just stopped taking precautions
hermione absolutely loves wearing his shirts
ron was already thinking about quitting aurors and discussed it with hermione, but he’s pushed over the edge when he has to face a boggart and it’s hermione being tortured at malfoy manor. he turns in his papers the next day without telling her
hermione cannot, and i mean cannot PLEASE keep her out of the kitchen, cook but ron can and he loves doing so
their favorite spot for prefect rounds was the astronomy tower
personal indulgent one here… i know not everyone agrees… but they were secretly dating the entirety of deathly hallows and kept it a secret because it was too dangerous of times for a “blood traitor” and “mudblood” to be together and they didn’t want harry to feel alienated when he was around them
ron is pretty much all of the kids’ favorite uncle
ron has blond eyelashes and hermione will never get over how the sun falls through them
ron’s scar from getting splinched is a lot worse than you’d think, it’s deep and marred and has a texture to it all the way around
hermione has night terrors, maybe even sleep paralysis and she only goes to healer for it after ron begs and begs her to, but she makes sure he’s with her the entire time
hermione’s scars from bellatrix never fade
also, she has one from dolohov’s curse from the battle of the department of mysteries in ootp that stretches from one shoulder diagonally across her torso to her opposite hip
ron knew he was going to marry hermione at fred’s funeral
if ron and harry go back to hogwarts for their eighth year with hermione: they are absolutely the most annoying couple ever! also they’re head boy and girl
if draco and harry get together: they hate it at first. personally, i hate hate hate the idea that they were immediately like okay whatever about it. drarry friends do y’all know what he did to them!2?!2/!?! they warm up to the idea slowly because they see how happy harry is because of him but it’s a process.

There’s a lot of downtime to being an Auror. Way more than Ron would have expected before he started hanging around the department two months ago to research his next novel.
Harry, it seems, is always busy as the Head Auror, but if the team isn’t actively working a case, they’re most often sitting around the DMLE just waiting for the next one. Dean and Seamus fill the time with gobstones, exploding snap, and whatever else catches their amusement in any given moment. “If we don’t have work to do, that means no one’s dead,” Seamus had said with a shrug when Ron brought it up.
The lead detective in the unit, though, never seems content to just relax. Ron has watched Hermione help other Aurors with their own paperwork, clean the office top to bottom more than once…watched her practice defensive spells that one day that he had followed her down to the Ministry gym because he’d been sure that was just an excuse to skive off and go do something fun. It wasn’t.
Hermione Granger is an unstoppable force of nature, and Merlin help anyone who chooses to get in her way.
Ron needs a lot of help, these days.
He’s learned at least as much about her in the downtime as he has from watching her solve homicides, but one thing has been consistent: Hermione works too hard. And she hasn’t exactly taken kindly to his suggestions that she take a break every once in a while, as well-meaning as his advice is. He’s pretty sure she thinks his goal is to distract her or pump her full of questions for his book, but he really does just want her to slow down a bit. How she’s not completely burnt-out at the end of every day is one of the mysteries about her that he hasn’t yet solved.
Hopefully, he can convince her to cut loose for just one night and come to his Halloween party this coming weekend, but he hasn’t worked up the gumption to ask her yet. He’s worried she’ll bite his head off, but hoping that she’ll enthusiastically agree and show up in a skimpy costume. Realistically, though, he’s expecting a polite decline that falls somewhere in between the two extremes.
“You can go home, you know.” Hermione’s voice startles him out of his thoughts, and he turns to look at her. She has one eyebrow raised in amusement and a smirk playing on the edge of her lips, making him wonder just how zoned out he was in his thoughts. “You look nearly bored to death. You don’t have to sit around the DMLE while we’re not working a case.”
“Not bored, just thinking,” Ron defends himself. “Besides, if I go home, how will I know when we do have a case?”
“I’ll owl you.”
As much as she doesn’t like him being here, he doesn’t really trust that to be true, but before he can argue, something else draws his attention. The Muggle phone that sits on Hermione’s desk, which may as well be a paperweight for how often he’s seen her use it to make a phone call—exactly never, so far—rings so loudly that it buzzes his eardrums.
“See, if I go home I miss things.”
Hermione rolls her eyes as she reaches for the handset. “You’ve never seen a Muggle phone ring before?”
“Not here. What the hell do Muggles call Aurors for?”
He’s beyond intrigued, but his only answer is a widening of Hermione’s smirk as she picks up the phone. “This is Detective Granger…Oh, hi Darren…I know you are not just calling me to ask how the weather is. I’m only across town.” She shakes her head and shoots a conspiratorial smile at Ron, as if he should be equally amused by Darren’s antics. “No, we’re free at the moment. What have you got?”
Hermione listens while her mouth twists into a deeper and deeper frown over whatever this Darren bloke has to say. Ron is sure he’s making the same face, only his consternation is over wondering who the hell this Darren bloke is. He’s never seen Hermione with anyone, and she’s never mentioned a boyfriend, but he’s also never heard her use that voice before—friendly, teasing, the opposite of the business-like tone he’s used to.
“Are you sure?” she asks finally. “I mean, that’s impossible unless—you’re kidding…Okay, we’ll be right there. What’s the address?” Hermione scribbles his response into the little notebook she carries everywhere while Ron cranes his neck to see what she’s writing. “Great. See you in a few minutes.”
She hangs up the phone and calls to Dean and Seamus as she reaches for her coat. “Who’s Darren? Where are we going?” Ron fires off as he prepares to follow her. “What’s impossible?” And seriously, who the hell is Darren?
“You might want to grab a fresh quill,” Hermione says with a grin. “I think you’re going to like this one.”

The Big Find is a 10-day long Drarry fic-finding marathon to celebrate the blog’s anniversary. Below is the Day 9 compilation of lost fics, both old and new, that we’ve been unable to find. Our aim is to get as much attention to these lost fics as possible, to help people finally find their missing fics! 9.1 i’ve read this explicit fic once on ao3. honestly I barely remember anything except for draco saying “ah there’s my pretty cock” or something when he saw harry’s dick (im sorry for the words), they were about to have sex, and I think they’ve got an established relationship already.
9.2 Draco is sort of an assistant around Hogwarts, post-war, and Harry recently started teaching there. And Hagrid tells Harry about how Draco was really subdued because he was tortured and found in the forest or something, and Harry decides to try talk to him more. I think there’s a part where Harry goes to Draco’s class and he startles him and he dropped some potions, and panicked. It’s on ao3 I think, no more than 50k.
9.3 i was looking for a fic where they’re both Aurors and friends, working on a case. i read it 2-3 years ago and all i remember is one specific scene where they were at draco’s apartment on a couch and he was pining and thinks it would be easier to deal with his feelings if they were entirely physical, but they’re not because harry is in his pyjamas. harry also makes him tea in his house a lot. i think it was on the shorter side? probably not over 90k.
9.4 I’m looking for a fic where hp is finally gaining confidence in 4th yr and accidentally meets dm through the qddwrldcup as well as his younger sister he then meets him again in hogwarts as he is a very intelligent student who is recommended by the pres/headmistress. i dont recall anything else except Sirius and Remus were in hp’s life, hp and dm spent some time 2gther in the forest to heal his sis and himself. they liked eachother from that first meeting but more of a crush. I think dm’s younger sister was called Lyra, hp spoke to bill weasley and got a snake earring from him, I remember moonlight or something moon in the title.

9.5 im looking for a creature fic where draco is taken into a elf/veela village with severus as his mother and he has half-brother drake malfoy. harry is VERY interested in draco and he is a creature too but icr what. ik draco was very controlled of his emotions but harry always teased him to make him blush. there was also non-con with his step-bro drake and karkaroff i think and cissy was a bitch in this story.
9.6 Searching for a fic I read on ao3. I don’t recall if there was specific year they were in or if it was a multi year fic, but they were still in their Hogwarts years. Draco was fully helping them. I think Sirius and Remus were there and together, but I could be remembering wrong. A huge battle, I think the final one, went down on the ground of Malfoy Manor. Snape revealed himself as a spy to Voldemort in the battle, facing him himself.
9.7 So the fic I’m looking for is a multi chapter fic where Draco is pregnant and he stays with the golden trio and I think that they (H and D) redecorated the place. Harry and Draco have a fight Draco tries to put a newborn scorpius to bed but he keeps crying for harry so harry comforts Draco and Scorpius, and Draco says he’s a bad dad and harry reassures him. Harry wakes up to Scorpius calling him dada (I think) and finds out that Draco, Ron and Hermione have been teaching scorpius to say that.
9.8 pretty sure it was on fanfiction.net but it’s possible that it was transferred to wattpad. It is complete and I’m pretty sure it had chapters. It’s an au set at Hogwarts in fifth year (no umbridge) where Harry and Draco are mind linked because of a bad mix of spells on the train home at the end of fourth year. Draco’s been having dreams that he consistently dies in while Harry is there. They learn that they’re connected and start talking to each other in their dreams and in their minds during school. snape is his godfather and tries to find potions to help him but doesn’t not know that Harry is apart of it. I remember it being very specific about one potion tasting like raspberries. Draco gets into a few fights with an older bigoted Slytherin and it is a known fact in this fic that he does not respond well to magical healing. He also claims that Harry is stalking him and then is made fun of for being paranoid. It also gets found out that Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred and George cursed Draco and his friends on the train the pervious year and are brought to Dumbledores office with Snape and McGonagall. Draco’s parents are super protective and they as well as snape set up something called SASHA which is to help slytherins who don’t want to participate in the second wizard if war to safe harbors. They drug the food in the middle of the night and remove the students who signed up. Blaise stays behind to be with Draco but most other named Slytherins from the books leave. Draco and Harry have a falling out over this. Sirius and Remus are boyfriends in this but are very minor characters and I don’t think are listed as a pairing although it’s implied in the fic. Dumbledore is blatantly evil as is mad eye moody and is trying to find out where the missing kids are. Draco is kidnapped and is severely injured. Harry wants to help find him but is told that he’s done enough and is put back to sleep. Remus tries to advocate for dumbledore to help find him by saying that when Remus taught him he was a really bright kid and Dumbledore brushes him off and says something along the lines of ‘we can’t save every kid, if he comes back alive we welcome him with open arms, if not…’ and Remus and Sirius are dumbfounded. Remus and Sirius break in to the hospital wing after the malfoys show up and have Harry talk to Draco through their connection to find out where he is. Narcisa is wildly powerful and finds him somewhere out of the country (I think New York, it was something on a license plate). He gets brought back and everything’s alright. Then it’s revealed that Dumbledore planned the kidnapping.
9.9 Drarry adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” or “What You Will”. I’m not sure if the author actually mentions it but I remember thinking that when reading it. The Twins are Draco and Luna, but they aren’t actually twins in this fic, they are strangers that just met that looks alike. Even down to their butt because I remember a funny conversation about one being the model for a butt pad and the other wearing it. The plane or some kind of transportation they met on crashes. Harry is like Duke Orsini in which he is trying to woo someone (I can’t remember who) with the help of Draco who I think is amnesiac. It gets fuzzy from there, but cue lots of mistaken identity hijinks. I think Blaise is that old friend that keeps harassing Draco to get something back.
9.10 Harry is DADA Professor at Hogwarts. He goes by Evans instead of Potter. He also doesn’t look like Harry Potter. Most of the school doesn’t know he is really Harry Potter. McGonagall knows his true identity as well as Teddy. I don’t remember who else knows. Teddy is a first year and he becomes friends with Draco Malfoy’s son. I don’t remember if his name is Scorpius or if it was something else. I also don’t remember which house they were sorted into. I think it was Gryffindor. I do know they are in the same house. Harry is Scorpius father but he doesn’t know it at first. Scorpius doesn’t know who is other father is but he knows what he looks like because he has a picture of him that he got from Draco. I have been looking for this story for a couple of years. I worry it has been deleted. I read it on fanfiction.net or a03
9.11 Sirius rescues Harry from Dursleys as a toddler and raises him? Harry and Draco become best friends (so adorable) and James and Lily are ghosts in the fic (ig?) . Also there’s a scene where they play pretend house where Harry is dad Draco is mom and Ron their dog? I think Pansy is the daughter.
9.12 looking for a fic that had a young harry and a death draco. it had gentleman in the title (i think it was the death gentlemen something). gloves and hand holding play an important role in the story. i think death draco leaves harry for a bit and they meet up again later
9.13 just remembered this fic i read a long time ago. i can’t remember if it was in ao3 or wattpad. it was set post hogwarts. harry is at least partly raising teddy and is lonely. he ends up finding draco and draco runs a center for lgbtq+ witches and wizards. a few former teachers are in it. teddy is struggling and thinks he is trans but isn’t sure but one day at the park wants to wear i think a dress, if it wasn’t a dress it was feminine presenting and other parents and kids make fun of him so harry immediately brings him to the center and everybody makes him feel better. obviously drarry gets together. there is also a pride-esqe thing that happens.
9.14 It’s about after the war, Harry and Ginny split up so he lives in a house which is attached to one side of the forbidden forest. One day, he meets Draco in the forest, keeps going back to talk with him, and falls in love. Draco later takes Harry to a lake and reveals that he’s committed suicide and was not real (a ghost maybe). It then ended with Harry committing suicide to be with him by also drowning in the lake.

Drarry microfic: Bones
“We’re close,” Malfoy announces solemnly. “I can feel it in my bones.”
Harry huffs, irritated, as he weaves between tombstones. “Right. Just like the tingling in your fingers you felt at the last cemetery, and the chills up your spine at the one before that. Forgive me if I’m losing faith in your heebie-jeebies.”
His bicep is caught in a tight grip, making him startle, even though he knows it’s only Malfoy. There are few places Harry likes less than dark graveyards, and tonight he and Malfoy were ordered to search several of them. So, yeah, he’s already a little on edge. To make things worse, when he pivots to try to wrest his arm away, Malfoy is grinning. Grinning!
Since the Head Auror had the (batshit) idea to partner them two years ago, Harry’s learnt to put up with Malfoy’s dramatics, for the most part. But this is the absolute limit of his patience.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Malfoy?” Harry snaps. “Have you been overdoing it with the Cheering Charms again?”
Malfoy’s smile widens—if that’s possible—as he keeps hold of Harry’s arm and leans closer. Too close. Despite the fact that Malfoy looks pointier, even a bit ghoulish, in the light of their wands, Harry finds himself getting flustered. They don’t casually touch each other as a rule. No jovial slaps on the back, no reassuring shoulder squeezes. The last time they had any physical contact was months ago, when Malfoy shielded Harry from a curse by lying on top of him, and it was so bloody embarrassing that they couldn’t look each other in the eye for the rest of the week.
“Potter,” Malfoy says in a low, commanding voice that makes Harry suddenly feel hot all over, “stop talking. Right now.”
Harry swallows. What is happening? He lets his gaze slide down to Malfoy’s mouth, which is hardly his fault because they’re ridiculously close now and the git is three inches taller. Malfoy has really nice teeth, Harry manages to think through his befuddlement. Shiny and straight, like his hair.
Crack!
Before Harry has time to register the murmured incantation or sharp flick of Malfoy’s wand, there comes a shattering sound behind him. He whirls around. Scattered across the ground are large shards of bone, some with decaying flesh still clinging.
“Bloody hell, was that an—”
“Inferius, yes.” Malfoy recasts his Lumos with greater strength and scans the graveyard. “It’s a good thing one of us was paying attention. Come on. We should make sure there aren’t any more lurking about.”
“But we’re supposed to be looking for a Dark artefact drop site,” Harry objects while keeping his eyes on the shadowy edges of Malfoy’s wandlight. “What are we going to tell Robards?”
“We’ll tell him that we found something more interesting,” Malfoy says with a shrug. He tilts his head towards Harry. “And Inferi aren’t even the most interesting discovery I’ve made tonight.”
He reaches out and cups Harry’s chin, then lifts it slightly as if he’s going to lean in again. And Harry, who apparently hasn’t recovered his wits yet, can’t help the tiny, surprised “Oh” that comes out of his idiot mouth.
Malfoy releases Harry with an exasperated sigh. “Focus, Potter. This place could be crawling with Inferi for all we know, and I’d rather not get ripped to pieces. Plus, I just had my uniform cleaned.”
“Well, your uniform,” Harry mutters as he follows his partner grudgingly. “Merlin forbid. Alright, let’s go. But you have to explain this to Robards when we come back empty handed.”
“I’ll do you one better. I’ll buy you a drink for every Inferius we find. Not at the Leaky, though. Somewhere more… intimate.”
Harry almost trips. “Oh? And then what?”
“Then we’ll just see where the evening takes us, won’t we?” Malfoy looks back at Harry over his shoulder, cheeky as hell. “But I have a very strong hunch about where it might go.”

I’m a wolfstar-shipper, but I actually really like the Tonks x Lupin pairing as a concept; it had a lot of potential that, unfortunately, was not met (though I am a sucker for tragically bittersweet endings, as well as characters who deem themselves unlovable being loved unconditionally, so kudos for that). Part of the perceived poor execution comes from the fact that the Harry Potter series is told through limited narration: we know what Harry knows, and we may be more curious about certain relationships that exist within his periphery than he is. There could’ve been an entire contextual build-up to their seemingly abrupt feelings for each other that Harry - and by extension us as readers - simply did not experience. Personally, however, I feel like we could’ve been thrown a bone regarding their developing romance here and there, considering that it has already been established just how much Harry eavesdrops. Granted, we did get Molly mentioning how people rush (romantic) decisions in trying times: “Its all this uncertainty with You-Know-Who coming back, people think they might be dead tomorrow, so they're rushing all sorts of decisions they'd normally take time over. It was the same last time he was powerful, people eloping left, right, and center...”
And now for the potential in dynamic I mentioned: after losing the rest of the Marauders, Tonks’ whimsy might have been just the thing to reawaken Remus’ playful side and create a light in the darkness of war (remember Dumbledores quote about turning on the light?), and Remus could’ve helped cultivate her mature side. As with any good ship (imo), there was also plenty of room for angst: Tonks was an auror, Remus classified as a “Dark Creature”. You can imagine the rest.
I don’t mind their 13 year age-gap as much as I thought I would (and other people seem to do), but that might just be a matter of personal taste (and my complete and utter trust in Remus as a good, if occasionally self-destructive and cowardice person). They’re both consenting adults.
What I do mind is the way Tonks’ character changed for the worse as her feelings for Lupin became apparent. What used to be a fun, likeable character turned bratty and unable to read the room (perhaps it is not the time to publicly press for a relationship label - especially with a notoriously private future partner - when he is in mourning). It has however been ages since I last read the books and God knows the films don’t do Remadora justice, so I won’t go too much into that (unintentional?) negative character arc.
As a final note I’d like to say that Wolfstar could be canon-compliant (or pretty much any Marauders-era ship involving Remus) as Remadora happens later on, and bisexuality exists. Luckily, because Harry Potter and the fanon around it are works of fiction, you can interpret the characters and their interpersonal interactions however you like, which is why I politely ask to remain civil in discussions about this post, which I genuinely do hope will occur. No but seriously. I’d love if you voiced your opinion (regardless of whether you agree with me or not) - you’ve already read this far anyway! Thanks for that by the way.
Tldr: I like Remadora conceptually because of their potential, but it (mostly) fell flat.

Like a recent anon (who was given excellent recs!) I’ve also been on a Pride & Prejudice kick. How could I not? It’s the original enemies to lovers -- a masterclass in prickly barbs and pining glances. And while I expected as much, the story I’m reccing, How to Overcome Pride and Prejudice in Eight Weeks by gglow has that and so much more. It takes the central conceit and places the reader outside of it, where Austen’s story pulls double duty as 1. a modern day set piece in the form of an undercover book club, and 2. an analogy used by the main characters to talk through the underlying romantic conflict.
Okay okay, that might sound a bit confusing. What you really need to know is that Harry and Draco are Auror partners on an undercover mission, trailing a suspect by any means necessary. Those means just happen to be disguising themselves as people who enjoy discussing why Mr. Darcy has zero social skills. But don’t think our favorite wizards are just sitting around with their ankles crossed -- there’s plenty of spicy moments and action, and scenes that combine the two (gentle spoiler: Harry is a himbo/gym rat with delicious abs who makes use of the showers. You’re welcome.)
How to Overcome Pride and Prejudice in Eight Weeks is basically a list of my favorite things: detective work, polyjuice, magical cats, jealousy, ensemble casts, a forest worth of pining and desperate shagging. The prose is clever, snappy, and immediately pulls you in. I adore stories that bring you into a character’s world. That tells you who they are, without holding your hand. Harry and Draco both feel like complete people with lives beyond each other and their work, but in the same vein, you can see how much the outside factors amplify who they are, and why Draco and Harry work so well when they’re together.
If that all weren’t enough, more icing on the cake: gglow is new to me! I literally found them this month while scrolling the Drarry tag! And they have more stories in their archive, which means if you enjoy this one, there’s even more Drarry to consume! How cool is that??

marauders era girls as disney princesses (+ two others)
because there is simply not enough about these girls in the fandom
narcissa black | mulan
narcissa is a survivor first and foremost and a slytherin all the way. mulan seems like a gryffindor at first glance - running away into battle and defying the role laid out for her, she seems more like sirius than narcissa - but she’s also doing this for her family, for her father, which is literally what narcissa is all about. the song honor to us all gives such narcissa vibes to me. the quiet but still fierce girl that turns into a soldier for her family.
andromeda black | jasmine
this one is more obvious. young princess sick of the world she’s stuck in falls in love with someone far below her station who teaches her about world outside the palace. andromeda and ted tonks anyone? plus jasmine is plenty sneaky and does what needs to be done.
bellatrix black | merida
bella was difficult for me to decide but i chose merida because they’re both headstrong but still care about their families. bella is the only named female death eater and pure blood daughters were expected to be trophy wives, she didn’t exactly fit the mold did she? merida refuses to be contained and i see bellatrix, especially young bella, in her.
pandora rosier | snow white
i always imagine pandora as kind of dreamy. intelligent obviously, but she’s definitely where luna got some of her personality from. she seems like someone who would be content in nature and appreciate the little things, and i feel like she would resonate with snow white.
dorcas meadowes | elsa
dorcas very much strikes me as an independent woman. she has her soft spot (marlene) like elsa does anna, but she’s not afraid to be her own person. i can also definitely see her needing to find herself like elsa does, especially when she finds herself on the opposite side of there war from her best friends.
marlene mckinnon | moana
marlene is definitely a gryffindor. she’s wild and free and does what makes her happy. i can definitely see moana’s free spirit in her and the determination to do what’s right, even when it’s not the easy thing **cough cough facing down a bunch of death eaters on her own**
lily evans | belle
i feel like this one is obvious. lily loves learning and she’s good at it. she reminds me of belle so much. girl ends up with a guy pining after her who she hates but eventually realizes that he’s not so bad once she gets to know him. like please, that’s literally jily. lilys also really headstrong and will do what she thinks is right, just like belle.
alice fortescue | tiana
alice was also a little difficult for me just because i feel like we don’t know that much about her. but she just gives me such tiana vibes. i feel like she’s definitely hardworking, i mean she becomes an amazing auror soon after graduating hogwarts. she’s kind, but won’t take anybody’s shit.
mary macdonald | anna
i feel like mary is just the kindest soul ever and will help anyone who needs it unless they give her a reason not too. she’s the friend that won’t stop reaching out to you if you’re being self destructive and trying to ice everyone out (see what i did there). her heart is huge and she sees the good in people.

classic kids rebelling against their parents and what they’ve been taught their whole life about the people who are different than them.
harry potter | anastasia
child is separated from the world they were born into when their parents meet an untimely death at the hands of enemies. when they’re older, they discover their true identity (i didn’t realize i needed a harry potter anastasia au until now).

Please correct me and let me know if I’m reading this wrong, but I’m kind of getting Auror Harry and Demelza vibes from Sirius and Teagan. They work well together and can fool people into thinking they're a couple on a mission, but they’re just friends in the end.
With everything going on in Brumous, I can’t see him giving her the time of day if he can’t even give it to Marlene. I get the sense his main focus for a while will be Harry and protecting him from Voldemort. I find Sirius to be extremely loyal, so I think once he knows Harry is safe, maybe then he’ll look into his romantic life, but I think he’s the type of guy that would want to make sure things with Marlene are officially over before he moved on. I think there are a lot of unresolved issues, and in order to be truly happy, he needs to either resolve them or come to terms with them. Again, this is my interpretation, and because I see Sirius as someone who really values loyalty and someone who’s not one to give up on someone he loves. Feel free to let me know if I'm wrong. I don't mind at all! I just want to make sure I'm understanding things correctly.

I believe Sirius is hyper focusing on Harry in part because he really fucking cares about the kid but it is also allows him to push all of his problems back and not deal with them.
Sirius has a long laundry list of shit he needs to deal with. He’s not interested in having a girlfriend right now. He’s definitely not interested in attempting any sort of relationship with Marlene because that’s another can of worms that he doesn’t have the emotional capacity to even deal with.
But Sirius is lonely. Very lonely. He’s been lonely for a very long time. With Harry back at school and his freedom on his fingertips, I could also see Sirius entering into a very casual relationship with someone he trusts. One where he will ditch her mid-sentence because his kid calls him. One where he will have no qualms if she gets upset with him because his kid needs him and Harry comes first. One where he doesn’t want to even tell Harry about because he’s just looking to not be so fucking lonely night after night after night while Harry is at school.
I’ll be honest. I planned that while Harry was off at Hogwarts, Sirius would let off some steam with a girl for awhile now because the guy needs to let loose under the sheets. He needs a bit of physical touch that he can only get with another adult. Nothing serious. Not a relationship. Just a bit of fun where he could feel normal again and help him work out some of his issues. I had someone already planned for that role and it wasn’t Tegan.
I did not anticipate for Sirius and Tegan to have so much chemistry. I wanted her to play a role in gaining Sirius’ freedom for the Demelza storyline. But the two of them just clicked when I was writing. She seems like the better option of helping Sirius cope a bit than my original one.
But we all know that Sirius isn’t capable of any real relationship right now. Nothing more than a spot of fun. It’s more of a shag buddy situation. It’ll be long over before he leaves for the Horcrux hunt.
The real question is: what happens after the war? Who lives? Who dies? And what kind of mental state is Sirius in after the war and will he or won’t he be ready and finally be able to deal with his issues in order to have a more meaningful relationship?
Will he chose the girl he loved since eighteen whose death nearly destroyed him and knows all of his deep dark secrets and has a lot of baggage?
Will he choose the girl who is a fun and fresh clean slate that he already had a wild and carefree romp with who knows nothing of his darkness?
Will he choose the girl who I originally planned to be his shag buddy?
Will it be a girl who is none of the above?
Nobody knows. Not even me at this point.

Requested: Christmas Caroling and Hot Chocolate with Neville, Magic Shenanigans! (American muggle gn!reader please if u can :3)
Pairing: Neville Longbottom x gn!reader
Your family was annoyed. Everyone had suggested a warm place to go for Christmas break but it was your turn to choose. You picked England. England was cold and covered in snow. Your brother wanted the Bahamas— most of the family agreed. But it was your turn and you were insistent on England. In the end, it wasn’t an awful trip. Your siblings were having fun and your parents were enjoying their time. However, no one wanted to go caroling. They all thought it was too cold and it was a bit weird to carol in a place where they knew absolutely no one. Throwing on your scarf, you left the house.
“Nan, are you expecting anyone?” Neville asked after hearing a knock on the door.
His grandmother shook her head. Well, Neville knew he wasn’t expecting anyone. Maybe Seamus or Dean decided to surprise him. He opened the door to see… you? Well, you certainly weren’t anyone he knew; and, you seemed too young to know his grandmother. Neville was sure that you just said something but was distracted by the accent— it didn’t sound like you were from here.
“Huh?” He asked as you looked at him expectantly.
“I said I’m here to spread Christmas cheer! If you want, feel free to slam the door in my face if songs aren’t your thing.”
“Oh, that’s… are you out here alone?”
You shrugged. “My siblings think they’re too cool for Christmas carols now… do you want to carol?”
“Me?”
“Why not? You seem my age and I’m assuming you’re not a Ted Bundy.”
“Who?”
“He’s a serial killer, don’t worry about it.”
Neville wasn’t sure how this strange person who seemed his age roped him into Christmas caroling. Yet, he was telling his grandmother bye as he walked out the door. If you went to Hogwarts, Neville was sure that you would be in gryffindor. He had a blast with you. That was back when he was eleven.
Now he wasn’t some bumbling first year. He was a sixth year. A lot of shit had happened since then. He almost died saving Harry and Sirius at the Department of Mysteries. Voldemort got away only to have a bunch of Aurors tracking him down with high hopes that they would get him before Neville became a seventh year.
He had written you all about it. It was supposed to be a secret, the wizarding world. But young Neville spilled the beans after you two promised to be penpals. He saw no harm in it. You were an American muggle. No one had to know. And no one did… until Seamus saw the letter.
“I don’t think they exist,” Dean said as they all ate breakfast.
There were a few days left until winter break. You were coming back to England to see your friend. This time you were coming alone. No one else shared your sentiments about going back to England for Christmas. However, your parents had said that you and your siblings were old enough to spend a little time alone. You guys celebrated Christmas early and then took separate mini vacations.
Neville shoved his friend. “They do!”
“They do what?”
Everyone turned to look at the voice. Neville’s jaw dropped open. He left his breakfast to run over and hug you. You giggled as he pulled away.
“First, that little house elf that helped me was adorable. Second, I really thought this was an abandoned castle until the elf did their magic thing.”
“How are you here?”
“We get out earlier than you do. Your grandma picked me up.”
“Nan? But still, you’re here. At Hogwarts.”
You nodded. “Funny story, I’m a squib.”
“Really?”
“No but your government isn’t allowed to randomly ask my government about its wizard citizens. So let’s just pray I don’t ever get court martialed. Are you going to introduce me to your friends?”
No one really believed that Neville was telling the truth at first. But you were real and you were hugged up on him. Neville poured you a hot chocolate.
“Okay, so you exist.” Dean acknowledged.
You chuckled and pecked Neville’s cheek. “I do in fact exist. So, Nev, where are we caroling this year?”
“Harry’s godfather lives really close to Nan and I.”
“Perfect.”

drarry 8th year? 👀
A little ficlet that I'm not quite sure what to do with. I was thinking about the sensation of being in a group where no one is doing well but everyone is being a bit myopic about their own pain and where Harry's savior complex gets a little complicated when it comes to traumatized classmates. I've never written Drarry before but I've had a couple ideas grab me at different times, and so I'm sure I'll write something for them eventually!

Harry had gone up to the attic to find a moment of peace at the party, but the sheets half covered over ominous furniture made him think of work, and he was trying not to think of work. Between a mirror oozing dark magic and a seemingly innocent chair, there was a window. He popped it open and clambered through, feeling like a child again, as his shoulder caught the edge and the window frame scraped through the thin t-shirt.
The summer air felt cool after the stuffy fog of the attic and the oppressive crowds below of his classmates who had stayed for eighth year and had since, inexplicably, become friends across houses. The smoke in the air and the sight of Gregory Goyle and Ernie MacMillon singing together to an old song and the press of the crowd was too disconcerting.
He looked out the grounds of the Goyle – not manor, there was some other specific title for this house. He ought to know the pureblood systems by now, given that he has spent the past year helping track down escaped Death Eaters, but the details of the snobbery and their hierarchies always escaped him.
“Potter.”
In the moonlight, Harry saw Draco Malfoy sprawled out on the roof with a bottle in one hand and a cigarette in another. His white-blonde hair stood out against the dark of his robes – no muggle clothes for him – and the black of the roof. He looked fuller than the last time Harry saw him, but of course he did.
“Malfoy.”
“I didn’t take you for hiding on the roof at parties. I imagined you’d love the opportunity to party with your former classmates.”
“It’s a lot,” Harry said, lamely.
“Quite.”
“As long as you don’t give me another person to be responsible for and as long as you promise no to fall of the roof – or ‘fall’ off the roof – you’re welcome to join.”
“Since when were you responsible for other people.”
Draco snorted. “You are welcome to sit with me whether or not you insult me. Though I’ll give you a cigarette if you refrain from insults. Or two if they’re clever ones.”
“I didn’t mean–” He genuinely hadn’t.
“Oh I know, Potter. Just sit.”
Harry moved across the roof, trainers gripping the surface. It felt good.
“Well done, well done.”
“I’ll take that cigarette.”
Draco handed over the pack. Harry took one, and Draco lit it with his wand before Harry could take his out.
They sat in silence for a moment, listening to the quiet echoes of whatever was happening on the ground three stories below. He heard what had to be Parvati’s laugh, followed by the distinctive sound of Seamus Finnegan.
“Why are you up here?” Harry asked finally.
“For the views.”
They could see the tops of trees but not much else.
“Er, yeah, same.”
Draco snorted.
“What happened last year? I got letters from Ron and Hermione, but they were mostly about each other or about Quidditch or classes, and they didn’t mention –” Harry gestured with his cigarette. “-- This social thing. Like are Goyle and MacMillon really friends?”
“It shocks me too.”
“Everyone seems so happy.”
Draco turned fully on the roof to face Harry. He must have put a charm on the bottle so it wouldn’t fall.
“You think everyone’s happy? How long have you been at this party?”
“Er, I didn’t last very long before I went looking for some quiet.”
“No one’s alright, Potter. Do you want me to give you a roundup?”
Before Harry could answer, Draco continued, “Salazar, where to start, your friends are constantly cursing each other, like with real curses. Daphne’s gone off eating, and so has Parvati – I think she thinks it’s the surest way to join Lavender in death. Or slowest and most honorable or something. Pansy’s started drinking again after managing to stop for NEWTs, and so that’s another disaster waiting to happen – especially with both Millicent and your ex here, but I’ll throw up a Protego as needed. Theo dropped out to focus on his apparent true love – Calming Draughts. Blaise went off to Italy, but I suppose he’s doing alright enough, considering. Greg’s got his nightmares and his fear of fire and his grief. And then there’s the rest, but the Slytherins are my responsibility. Got anyone you’re wondering about specifically?”
“And you?”
“I’m the picture of reformation, Auror Potter. No illegal substances touch these lips nor illegal curses on this wand.”
“Malfoy.”

“I can go back there. The Dark Lord is dead.” The “Thanks to you, Potter” went unsaid. “The manor is ours again. Mother is determined to act as if nothing has changed. Everything looks the same, except Father isn’t there. She’s coping somehow, and I don’t know why I can’t. If I pull away, if I avoid going home, she gets so sad. Owls of her loneliness. But when I go back there, I can’t be a person.
"God, she even made a snide comment about Muggleborns in the Ministry the last time I visited. Not even a year out from the war, she’s commenting as if it never happened, and it’s simply a coincidence that there is major turnover in the Ministry from pureblood witches and wizards to Muggleborn.
"And don’t look at me like that – I know I could tell her off for it. But to do that I’d need to be a person in that house, and I can’t be a person or I’ll break completely. I can perform dutiful son just like I performed dutiful Death Eater, but I can’t let the rest of me in the house.
"Anyway, you probably wanted some quiet and instead you got my whinging which you can mock me for before I go inside and fix whatever mess Pansy created in my absence. So, go on.
"You had a few good ones in school. You made a comment about my Mother looking like she had dung under her nose once.” Draco laughed ruefully. “I was furious at you for that. So what do you have for the unredeemed shell of a man drinking firewhiskey on the roof?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t say that. Give it a real try.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t you dare feel sorry for me.”
“I’m not alright either.”
They sat in silence.
“Well, then. You can stay.”
“Sometimes I wonder if I should have stayed for eighth year.”
“Why didn’t you?”
“What else could I do but catch dark wizards? How could I focus on my Charms NEWT knowing Mulciber was still out there? I did miss Quidditch though.”
“I missed it too.”
“We should fly some time.”
“Are you–?” Draco corrected himself. “I’d like that.”
“Ginny and Pansy have been giving me headaches all year. Ginny’s a trainwreck, but she’s signed with the Harpies, but I’m sure you knew that.”
“Yeah, Quidditch was always her dream.”
“I think she’s bad for Pansy.”
“I’m sure Pansy’s bad for her too.”
“But Pansy’s sensitive – No, don’t laugh – and I’m actually genuinely worried about her. Ginny’s the one who keeps making her drink when she doesn’t want to.”
“I do not believe that. Who told you that, Parkinson? Anyway, don’t talk about Ginny like you know her.”
