Alright alright alright that took me on a rollercoaster like some REAL high lows in that episode, I love an ambiguous ending but also I crave so much more closure owwwwwwww However for now I'm just coming to share my theory. Ever since this post pointed out that New hallucinated Non in his death t-shirt, I've been sitting on the idea that the Janta drugs have actual supernatural qualities. These aren't just any old hallucinogens New cooked up, they're a strain of a drug that serves a specific purpose for a death cult. So now that EVERYONE hallucinated Non in his death t-shirt, even though Tee is the only one who ever saw him in it, and it's highkey unlikely that he described the shirt Non was wearing to them at any time (and certainly not to New when he hallucinated Non wearing it years ago), I would like to propose the theory that the ghost of Non they see is a very real very true ghost, and the things he says to them are very real very true things. The "thank you" he gives New is not a figment of New's troubled mind, but what Non actually has to say to him, just like everything else he says to everyone else: their actions may be the product of their guilt, but Non is actually speaking his ghostly mind to each of them.

the way they see themselves in each other is so fucking crazy.

yuno knows what kazui's hiding and doesn't openly out him, but she says enough that kazui knows that she knows. the cultural and generational differences here especially get me. there's kazui, who is intentionally dodgy with questions regarding and appears to feel guilty for his sexuality, nd who grew up in a very traditional family. then there's yuno, who is very open about her sexuality and whose family is very important to her and implied to be very warm and kind towards her.

while yuno and haruka are paired and kazui and amane are, i do believe that yuno and kazui + haruka and amane would have also worked as duos. (haruka and amane is for another time.) both yuno and kazui have expressed that they want to be loved, and have shown that they are willing to go out of their way to accommodate others for that sake. (yuno says in her t1 interrogation that her "type" is someone who treats her special, kazui has. well. the entire cat music video.)

additionally, yuno and kazui are 2 prisoners who consistently express deep remorse for their crimes in their interrogations, and both of their trial 2 mvs highlight more culturally "sinister" aspects of the contexts thereof after their trial 1 music videos hadn't shown the whole story and had shown them to us from a more "pathetic" lens.

to elaborate on the latter part, yuno understands that voters have been viewing her as someone who was perhaps sexually harassed or was forced into having an abortion, which she sticks her nose up to and firmly establishes that her sexual activities were voluntary. meanwhile, kazui understands that the voters want information, and he attempts to exploit that in order to get another innocent verdict, just as he went on lying to his wife after they'd gotten close so that he could have a loving partner and blend in socially.

tl;dr we all know thay both yuno and kazui have sexual tendancies (assumed currently to be general hedonism & homosexuality, respectively) which warp the ways in which the world would look at their crimes (assumed to be abortion & leading a partner to suicide) from a moral standpoint. it's just so crazy to me that both of them recognize it in each other, and even more gut-wrenching that kazui hates this because he understands the implications of this on his sexuality.

also they're the only 2 prisoners who are basically 100% confirmed to have had sex 😎👍

Just throwing this out there... that this kind of nonchalant/negligent foreshadowing is so Gege's style. He deliberately obfuscates information and then doesn't bring it up for a dozen chapters (or more, as it is here).

Also, this smells fishy af. Did Kenjaku have something to do with the two Inherited Techniques clashing?! An experiment to see what would happen? I wouldn't be surprised, tbh.

i often think about PTSD he would suffer from growing up in hospital :( i’ve experienced it myself, and it would be hard to live with along with everything he went through post MH. that’s very troubling to think about! he couldn’t simply “move on,” post mh events. so i think about what it would be like for him quite often. so, id say its along the lines of C-PTSD. not to begin to psychoanalyze here .. but i do think of what his life would be like.

i heart him and jay! the whole “what could’ve been.” dynamic with them .. or if they could’ve met under different circumstances? i think of it they’d ever become close once more in a different scenario?
