Can you write a drabble with bestfriend yoongi finding out you have a spit kink and makes fun of you but turns out he’s into it too and … yea 🤭
anon i gotta give you props for so patiently playing the waiting game. i literally saved this req from the last time you sent it bc i really WANTED to do it but it took a lotta brain power 😂 had to have a whole brainstorming session
also shoutout to seokjin for making this relevant!!
still accepting freaky requests, lmk what ya wanna see!!
pairing: yoongi x reader word count: 1.1k contains: spit kink, erotic watermelon eating 🥴, i promise there's no actual food play tho, friends to lovers ig, tiny bit of praise kink
“Eat.” Yoongi sets the plate of fruit and bowl down in front of you, and panic instantly rockets through your nervous system.
“I-I don’t like watermelon,” you say before immediately realizing that isn’t going to solve your problem. The issue isn’t whether or not you eat it.
“That’s not a thing,” Yoongi says decisively as he squints at you. He can clearly tell you are acting strange. “Everyone likes watermelon.”
“Are you questioning my taste in fruit?”
Your best friend rolls his eyes. “Well, I have about ten pounds of it, courtesy of Jin. Help me eat it or don’t. I don’t give a shit.” The silver bracelets on his wrist jangle as he reaches for a slice. You make a mental note to kill Seokjin the next time you see him.
Frozen in place, you can only watch helplessly as Yoongi takes a bite, pink fruit melting quickly under lips and teeth. His jaw works for a second, and then he brings the bowl up to his chin and spits three seeds out in quick succession.
Fuck.
“This one does have a lot of seeds,” he mutters mostly to himself, frowning into the bowl.
Of fucking course it does.
He suddenly seems to become aware of your eyes on him, because he looks up at you, brows furrowing together with agitation. “What is this, a fucking mukbang? Will you put on the damn show?”
Right. Extraordinary Attorney Woo. He specifically invited you over to get caught up on the latest episodes. Not to stare at him while he eats fruit.
You fumble for the remote, trying not to look as flustered as you feel, and clearly fail, because you can hear Yoongi laughing around another mouthful. “What the fuck is wrong with you today?”
“Leave me alone.”
You manage to divert enough brain cells from thinking about your best friend’s mouth to remember how to pull up Netflix.
The show starts, and you sink back against the couch, extremely grateful for the distraction.
Except it doesn’t work. You are unfortunately laser-focused on Yoongi as he reaches for another slice, and the first bite is accompanied with a gratuitous sucking sound as he attempts to keep the juice in his mouth.
He’s not quite successful, and when a few drops roll down his chin, you’re hit with the nearly overwhelming desire to lick them up.
“You can literally have some if you want it,” he talks with his mouth full, wiping the back of his hand over his neck. You know he’s talking about the watermelon, but there’s already a steady pulse between your legs at the other opportunity that sentence offers you.
He picks up the bowl again to spit into it, having to try a few times to get all the seeds out of his mouth, and you’re not going to make it. Especially not when he reaches for a third slice and makes a low hum of appreciation at the first bite. The noise thrums through you, so intense you swear you’re vibrating.
Yoongi’s eyes catch yours, and when he sees you’re still watching him intently, he’s clearly had enough.
“Alright,” he says mid-chew, picking up the remote to pause the show and then slamming it back down. “If I’m that fucking gross, you can just go home.”
“Not gross,” you correct quickly, before you can decide whether or not it’s a good idea.
Yoongi looks entirely confused, but he must finally be able to read the expression on your face, see the way you go slack-jawed when he pulls the bowl up to his mouth and spits into it a third time.
“So, what, you have a watermelon fetish?”
“Not watermelon,” you say softly.
His gaze jumps from your face to the bowl and back, and he seems to finally put the pieces together.
“Oh my god, are you one of those ‘spit in my mouth, daddy’ girls?”
An embarrassed heat shoots up your neck, and you can only nod.
“That’s fucking freaky,” he laughs, enough that his shoulders shake. “I can’t believe I never knew this.” Your brain thinks to tell him that you don’t appreciate being kink-shamed, and then his next words make you forget how to string a sentence together, or even what words are.
“Open your mouth, then.”
Without hesitation, you do as you're told. It’s impossible to miss the smug expression on Yoongi’s face as he gets to his knees and moves towards you.
“So eager. You want it that bad?”
Your tongue lolls out as you nod, and you inhale sharply when his hand comes to grab your face and hold it in place, silver rings digging into your skin in a way that sends sparks through you.
“Then I want you to take it like a good girl, okay?”
You couldn’t suppress the strangled noise that sentence works out of your open mouth if you tried. Yoongi’s eyes glint– he’s clearly enjoying this power. The strong muscle of his jaw flexes, and then he leans down to spit into your waiting mouth. It’s too damn hot for you to stop the desperate whine that follows.
“Want more?”
When you whimper again, Yoongi seems satisfied with the response. He sits up a little taller on his knees, and you can see his tongue moving behind closed lips. There’s more saliva this time– a lot more; he lets it fall slowly out of his mouth, off of his tongue, feeding it to you one drop at a time, so slow it’s nearly torture. You squeeze your eyes shut and your thighs together at the same time, your hips just barely starting to rock, in desperate need of friction.
You hear and feel it as he spits a third time, fast and aggressive now, so fucking dirty that a shiver rips up your spine.
Yoongi’s fingers brush over your jaw, and you take the encouragement to close your mouth and swallow.
“Good girl.” His voice is dark with lust, and you instantly need more. Eyes still closed, you drop your mouth open again in a silent request.
It takes you by surprise when his tongue meets yours instead, and you can’t help but outright moan as he licks into your mouth, tasting sweet and heady. You find his body under your hands, fingers moving to tangle in the long dark hair at the nape of his neck, enjoying the low groan you pull out of him when you tug gently, the way his lips close around your tongue and suck.
His hands are already fumbling for the button of your jeans, and you’re both breathless when he breaks the kiss momentarily to better see what he’s doing.
“Fuck, how about I spit on your clit next?”
You don’t expect to survive the evening.

List of dramas everyone loves but I either watched and did not love or didn’t even want to watch because I found them unappealing to that degree.
1. Nirvana in Fire - the protag was way too OP and I also never did overcome my conviction that Wang Kai would get eaten alive by the court the moment MCS died - ideals and inability to do sleazy compromising morally grey things combined with too much morality make for a terrible ruler.
2. Castaway Diva - it was so fucking precious I wanted to scream “you can’t do magic realism with your magic chirpy castaway.” Sure Jorge Amado could but you ain’t Jorge Amado.
3. Extraordinary Attorney Woo - I do not do lawyer dramas at all. And as a contrarian, the more people fangirled over it, the more annoyed I got.
4. You are Beautiful - yeah it’s old but I can hold a grudge. Watching it as it aired was extremely not fun with insane fans who were enraged the ratings were not whatever it was, the characters were annoying as fuck and JGS decided to cosplay as his character in this for a decade after, the ending was lifted from A Star in my Heart. But honestly it’s the psychotic fans that really did it for me.
5. Start Up - why it inspired this degree of obsession and virtiol is beyond me but I couldn’t look at anyone involved for years.
6. Legend of Zhen Huan - I hate all harem dramas and the better made the more I hate them because all those smart women fighting for attention of one gross fail man so as to survive or for power or because it’s him or nobody is, historically accurate or not, depressing as fuck.
7. Legend of Fei - color beige given form.
8. Moon that Eclipses the Sun - moronic plot, dumbing down of any historical reality of anything, lead pair with no chemistry (and leading lady who can’t act), and the start of the horrifying fluffy youth sageuk trend. If I had Thanos’ zapper to use only on one drama this would be it.
9. My Name is Kim Sam Soon - once again huge old hit and I can hold grudges - it’s not funny and the leads are an immature annoying unlikeable pair. When the only character I like is the secondary girl you know you fucked up.
10. Rookie Historian - makes Moon that Eclipses the Sun seem like Jumong. Also if Cha Eun Woo actually moves his face I think the world might end so I am grateful to him from protecting us from that apocalypse in that and every other drama.
(I did not include dramas that were popular but had a mixed reception like Boys Over Flowers etc or we’d be here all day.)

Not here to fight or put anyone down but I do feel like I need to get this off my chest. I’m frustrated as I type but just know I mean no harm to others and appreciate kind responses even if disagreeing. It’s just… it’s too much.
Of course I know negative opinions of the show exist and everyone has the right to their own opinion, I try my best to accept that all views are valid views, but some of them have actually been hurtful to me. There are a bunch of articles written about this drama, especially because there’s an autistic female lead, a bunch of threads on twitter, people in real life talking about the show, and somehow this small space on tumblr I joined just some days ago is the safest I ever feel as someone on the spectrum while watching it every week.
Someone told me directly that Extraordinary Attorney Woo is actually harmful to the autistic community, in response to me being happy about it and enjoying it every week. Granted this person was non-autistic and went off takes by another people calling Youngwoo exaggerated, stereotypical and non-realistic, saying she casts unrealistic expectations for autistic people for neurotypicals — and, honestly, I just started crying.
I’ve had people tell me not to watch the show because the first episode made them “uncomfortable with the stereotypes”, I’ve had people tell me Youngwoo having difficulty with the revolving door is the most cringe thing ever (“What? Do they think autistic people are dumb?”), I’ve had people say her mannerisms are unrealistic. And you know what, I can still handle all of those, but being told that a drama where I finally feel seen and look forward to watching every week is actually harmful for the community I’m in? Made me feel so fucking shitty. I feel defeated, actually. I feel ashamed for enjoying this show when everything other than this small space is telling me I’m not allowed to. I feel ashamed that I relate to a character that’s apparently exaggerated and harmful. I feel ashamed of my autistic traits. I feel ashamed of my autism. I’m tired of explaining I disagree and want to watch the show. I’m tired of being overlooked because everyone’s only looking at negative opinions over the influx of positives from us. I’m tired that since this drama came out, I have had to explain and explain, instead of them just accepting that I like this and feel seen.
“This is too exaggerated” while my best friend who behaves exactly like Youngwoo watches the show with me every week. While many people in both online and offline spaces say Youngwoo is who they are without masking.
“There’s no masking so it’s not realistic” for you, maybe. Not everyone masks. Not everyone has to mask. Not everyone can mask. Masking makes us exhausted, it can hurt us, it can be a response of social abuse trauma so it can vary for each person. Youngwoo is simply another autistic person who does not mask, as exists in real life, and is valid in living that way.
“She’s stereotypical, it’s bad” but there are autistic people who still match the stereotypes. I match some, my friends on the spectrum match others. We see ourselves in Youngwoo. Past media didn’t do the best job at autistic representation, but why are we not valid because of them? Why are we now harmful?
“She can’t get through a revolving door, this is so exaggerated I’m cringing, no one acts like this” It took me weeks to use an escalator because of the motion when looking at it (even now I still hesitate), a revolving door is no different, am I now too cringe to be autistic? You can say you find some scenes cringey and you won’t be watching anymore. It’s not hard to be accommodating to the people who do struggle instead of making them feel like they don’t belong.
Why are we as real people being valued and assessed for… reviews on a kdrama? Just because there’s a character with the autistic label? The show isn’t even about her autism, it’s about her as a lawyer and her life with her friends, family and job?
I don’t understand why I am meant to feel this way. I don’t understand why, for anyone claiming to care so much about the community, that they don’t want to listen to everyone in it. I don’t understand why it can’t just be accepted this is an ordinary kdrama that happens to have an autistic character and move on, instead of them being probed under a microscope even when there are good and heartfelt responses to the character. Why must I explain and explain and explain. Why can’t this show just be for me instead of educating everyone else who don’t bother to talk to autistic people or learn about autism in real life, as all of us have done before.
I’ve watched the movies and shows with autistic characters everyone insists you should watch before seeking diagnosis because “are you sure you’re autistic when you don’t act like that?”. I knew I was autistic from talking to other autistic people, from researching about autism, from asking the questions I needed. I didn’t feel seen in those shows and I don’t put down people who do. But this, when I finally have something where I can associate and see my autism with explicit love, to be exposed to all of this is just… overwhelming, honestly.
It just sucks.

K-Dramas recommendations & short reviews
Because I've watched way too many to not make a list. Warning: I like romance and fantasy a bit too much.
These shows made me cry. 10/10. Five stars. Recommend to anyone. They live in my mind rent-free:
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022) - Attorney Woo is such a wonderful person, I love her character. I can't say much about the representation, but I like that it opens up the conversation around autism & neurodivergence, discrimination and prejudice, particularly in work environments. I rarely like shows about law or lawyers but I was surprisingly engaged with the cases and the story. It deserves a second season. (The only thing I don't like about this show is they're pushing for a MinWoo and Choi Su-Yeon ship. Which huh--disrespectful.)
Tumblr media
Hotel Del Luna (2019) - A great place to start with k-dramas if you like paranormal fantasy. This show has such a special place in my heart. I wanted a different ending but I am okay with it because it was a tight narrative. The main character is iconic (Man-Wol please step on me). The show has amazing sets, AMAZING costumes, an amazing OST, amazing and heartbreaking performance by Yeo Jin Goo. The main couple is so soft; like they're such good friends and coworkers and gentle with each other (eventually). It's enemies to reluctant friends to lovers. It's perfect for asexual viewers who want more than physicality in their romance shows. Cons: the secondary characters' goodbyes and backstories left a little to be desired. A few other nitpicks like Chang-Seong is the one to suggest the main character a new hobby instead of her just discovering it by herself.
Tumblr media
It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020) - Also a good place to start with k-dramas. This show is a lesson in good narrative; this has perfect writing & storytelling. The cast is so good. The female lead is an icon. The character work I excellent. The mental health issues are so well addressed and it taught me a lot about mental health I wasn't aware of. Each small minor character plays a very important thematic role. (The villain isn't the best thing ever but she serves her role in the themes and plot.) The production and the storytelling with the children's book animations are just *heart eyes*. The OST is so good too. You need to watch this to understand how good a k-dramas can be. A must-watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goblin: The Lonely and Great God (2016) - This is the most iconic fantasy/paranormal k-drama ever. A lot of current tropes were started here I think (including the weird k drama last-episode time jump separation of the main couple). This show broke me. You will cry. The bromance and comedy are amazing here too. Gong Yoo and Dong Wook Lee have great chemistry. Main female lead is so cute and her character is so heartwarming. The ending felt a bit rushed. The death, existential related stuff with the grim reapers and such is so good tho.
Tumblr media
Business Proposal (2022) - Best rom-com ever! (Well, it could be gayer tbh.) It's my new comfort show. I already watched it twice. It's campy, hilarious, chaotic, iconic and messy in a way that feels like real life (but obviously played up for drama and comedy). Excellent character work. The love interest is definitely written by a woman. Gorgeous cast (Sejeon omg I have a crush, but also the others). It was too short! I would have loved another episode, and more of Grandpa and Ha-Ri. Warning: this has the weird kdrama last-episode time jump couple separation.
Tumblr media
W: Two Worlds (2016) - A young resident medic accidentally finds her way inside the webcomic her father created. Like, that premise is killer. We have Lee Jong Suk at his finest here; the character fits him so well. He was born to play a lead. This show has amazing meta-commentary on writing, authorship, and existential crisis. The confrontation between the webcomic character Kang Cheol and the author is insane! The main couple is an epic pair. Would rewatch. High wump value. Cons: The second part could have been more swoony with the romance, Kang Cheol kind of became a bit cold. (A warning: this show also has the k drama weird last-episode time jump couple separation.)
Tumblr media
Would recommend with popcorn, I rate them 8/10:
Crash Landing on You (2019) - Really good. The main couple has the best chemistry I've ever seen. It's not that much of a personal fave show, but still pretty awesome and will tug at your heart. It got a bit overly dramatic in the last episodes and again, has that k-drama last episode weird time jump couple separation, but here it actually makes sense. And sort of mirrors the separation and eventual unification of the Korean Peninsula. It was very interesting to see the contrast between North and South Korea.
Shooting Stars (2022) - Aside from the terrible, horrible, insulting Africa storyline (where the male lead goes to 'help' African kids with water scarcity, not even a country name is called, he just goes to *gestures vaguely* Africa to help goddammit he's such a beautiful soul! /s) There's a weird creepy sugar mommy wannabe side storyline and it's weird and out of nowhere. But the rest of it is good and campy and the main characters are so cute. All the couples are cute. The male lead is a cute disaster. Female lead is also a capable cutey but a disaster when it comes to romance. It's hilarious. I love all characters. It's fun. It's great. It shows a very interesting side of the entertainment industry.
While You Were Sleeping (2017) - A man and a woman who don't know each other have precognition powers and after they meet, they use them to take down a corrupt lawyer. The show isn't very heavy on the romance, tough the pair work pretty well together. I liked the main actress. Lee Jong Suk has chemistry with anyone. The male role was not exactly a good fit for Jong Suk. He's so much more naturally charming than the character. It's a fun show to pass the time. The found family is nice and all the characters work great together. The mom is great.
The King's Affection (2021) - I'm going to be honest, I didn't finish watching this. Ups. I got bored after episode 15. It's a very slow show but what I watched was quite good. It was just not a show for me. Having a bisexual male lead was awesome, I appreciate that he falls for the main character while he thinks she's a man. (Could be gayer tho, just saying.) Pretty good discussions and reversals of gender cliches. It has complicated parent-child relationships that are very well written which gives a lot of heart and heartbreak to this story. The political stuff gets very convoluted. I really wish the queer part was bigger though, and not limited to the main couple. We could even have poly representation! I still have half a mind to finish this but I don't know There are so many other shows I'd rather watch instead. (Boy, I really need to get into the actually queer side of k-dramas because the side I'm currently on is giving me crumbs.)
Lovers of the Red Sky (2021) - The premise was so cool. This has so much lore I like and the setting is beautiful and rich, but it also has so much lost potential. The plot is very weak in the second half and could be restructured. I loved the atmosphere, costumes and the actors and their characters: the blind cursed scholar nobleman, the female genius cheeky painter and her friend trio and the prince are all great characters. Ahn Hyo Seop is pretty good in it and looks very pretty indeed in historical costume (but the design of the villain creature he's possessed/cursed with is so, so bad omg). Great premise failed execution. Good first half but it went over the rails quickly. Still entertaining if you like historical fantasy.
Romance is a Bonus Book (2019) - It's a bit slow and could have done so much more with the female lead and her child. She's a bit underwhelming and her daughter is barely in the story. The second female character played by Jeong Eu-Gene was awesome, I love this actress now. Lee Jung Suk is always looking hot and being an excellent actor with what he's given; he's very charming here. He could have chemistry with a piece of wood and yet I wasn't that fan of the romance. Maybe it's just because friends to lovers isn't my cup of tea. There's a weird out-of-nowhere backstory between the male leads. The commentary of ageism in the workplace is a bit surface level (it's not that big of a deal for the company if you're overqualified for a job, the point should be that is an issue for you and your career, who is too good for the company). You can tell the writers really care about books; it's definitely a love letter to editors and an interesting window into the world of book publishing; you can feel the love editors put into making books. Bonus: the founding members of the publishing company have very funny moments.
Do no recommend:
King: Eternal Monarch - Couldn't even finish this. I was so, so confused. The dialogue, narrative and backstory make no sense! Everything is so unnecessarily confusing. There's no chemistry between the main couple. The king and the bodyguard had more chemistry. Lee Jung-Jin (playing the villain Lee Lim) & Woo Do-Hwan (the bodyguard) carried this show and are pretty much the only thing good about it. The female lead is sidelined. It had an intriguing premise but failed execution.
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim - Skimmed most of the second half. It's a mess. The love interest CEO is such a narcissist and asshole he wouldn't be able to keep a working, healthy relationship with his partner without some serious therapy first. The female lead seems to be repulsed by him most of the time even when together and even looks scared when they get intimate. There's an unnecessarily convoluted plotline about the main lead's brother and a kidnapping in their past. It has tonal issues and it's cringy rather than funny. The secondary characters are just a lot of useless filler. The female lead sacrifices her independence and dreams to be with the main guy. Just go watch Business Proposal instead.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo - The only pro of this show is IU. The romance went the undeveloped route. Cheap-looking production, with too many episodes, melodramatic, characters pivot in place instead of naturally developing; it's definitely a telenovela. The point that the female lead is from the future doesn't even matter for the story (should have made her a Goryeo historian instead of a random cosmetologist). Pass!
Tomorrow - Could not finish watching. Please, please don't watch it if you're dealing with depression, bullying or suicidal thoughts. Please don't. By episode 2 I was just screaming at the screen. Problematic? This show invented the word problematic. The supernatural task force that's supposed to save people with suicide risk is terrible at therapy and suicide prevention. They tell the person trying to commit suicide, literally on the edge of a building about to jump, that they should do it, that they're weak, they should just jump, go ahead! Like ... what????
Mystic Pop Up Bar - Didn't capture me by episode 2. Got bored. Some say this is better than Hotel Del Luna but I don't agree.
Abyss - It's a weird tonal mix. Would have preferred if it leaned further into the absurd (go all in with the humour or don't at all), the sci-fi or the murder mystery. Instead of just revealing by episode 3 who the murderer is, quickly changing the plot into a chase after the villain, even though he's so lame. But also he is keeps killing people and it gets dark. And then we cut to the main couple being silly and cute. It's so jarring. The leads have a great dynamic and Ahn Hyo Seop knows how to differentiate his characters really well, give them their own flavour., but in the end it's just a cool premise, failed execution. Very average.
Currently watching:
The Crowned Clown - Very interesting concept and gorgeous, gorgeous visuals. Plot drags a little. Has some tonal problems and oversimplification of politics. The best part is when Yeo Jin-Goo acts with himself haha. He's such a talented actor.
The Uncanny Counter - Get's a bit melodramatic sometimes but all four main actors are insanely good.
Tale of the Nine-Tailed - The main romantic relationship needs a lot more development, but the entire show is worth watching just for Dong Wook Lee and Kim Bum as brothers.
Alchemy of Souls - 6/10 so far. Currently watching season 2/part 2. Aside from the prince, I don't particularly care for any of the characters. Unpopular opinion but the main romantic pair have no chemistry. Mu-Deok has more chemistry with Yul and the prince, and the prince has more chemistry with Jang-Uk. The lore is confusing and inconsistent: it breaks its own rules. (Two souls in one body what?? when was this established as a thing?) There's not enough foreshadowing and setting up the rules of magic in this world (the Ice Stone comes up as a deux ex mahcina big plot point in the last second). It also drags; the episodes are too long. There's a lot of saying and ultimately the show doesn't deliver. The narrative structure is straight out of a fantasy Wattpad. The set and costumes are fun and cool for a fantasy world, and the first episode was great.

Top 10 kdrama friendships that had me bawling
#10 - alchemy of souls : mu deok/bo yeon + the boys
Tumblr media
the only reason this doesnt get a higher rating is because they just didnt have enough scenes together. it was always pretty secondhanded, like the boys helping her with her servant exam in s1, or scenes between seo yul and mu deok/bo yeon. however, their friendship was amazing, and just adore this show in itself.
#9 - doom at your service : tak dong kyung, na ji na and cha joo ik
Tumblr media
okay, they weren't a trio, necessarily, but they had such a great friendship through indirect interaction. joo ik and dong kyung had such a wholesome excited little sister and passive older brother relationship. and dont even get me started on the cuteness that was the friendship between na ji na and tak dong kyung.
#8 - strong girl do bong soon : do bong soon and gyeong shim
Tumblr media
i wrote about this in my review of strong girl dbs as well, and the friendship between gyeong shim and dbs was so cool because both women were willing to go to such lengths for each other. one of the lesser-highlighted friendships of kdramas.
#7 - crash course in romance : nam haeng son and kim young joo
Tumblr media
it takes a lot to sacrifice your national sports for your friend, and young joo made that sacrifice like a pro. their friendship was so cute, a bit annoying at times, but cute nonetheless. they were there for each through the goods and the bads, and that's all we really ask for.
#6 - lovestruck in the city : lee eun oh, suh rin i and kang geon
Tumblr media
why! are! they! not! talked! about! ultimate peak best friendship, no romantic subplots to this gang, absolute delights. everyone should give lovestruck in the city a try.
#5 - twenty five twenty one : the gang
Tumblr media
how could i say friendship and not have these people. this gang singlehandedly and platonically had enemies to besties, childhood besties, sunbae besties and just everything. right in the feels.
#4 - weightlifting fairy kim bok joo : the trio + the boys
Tumblr media
the 'swag' trio. every time they did the swag thing it made me cringe so bad but they were very cute. the rooftop scene was legit so cute and the addition of the boys was even better. nothing beats these weightlifting girls and we stan.
#3 - extraordinary attorney woo : woo young woo and choi su yeon
Tumblr media
this was sosososososo cute. the way su yeon was literally always there for young woo. she couldve easily been a villain, young woo took the guy she had a crush on, was higher in grades and well known. had an influential background. such telltale signs of bad women in kdramas. BUT this amazing person really was so good with young woo and totally spring sunshine su yeon.
#2 - the fabulous - the gang
Tumblr media
everyone seems to hate the fabulous. genuinely, come at me. i dont give a shit about cinematic art or marketing strategies or whatever, this is my opinion gonna stick to it. i ADORED the fabulous. their gang was so amazing, the definition of supportive, cute and somehow maintaining that joke around stuff. they had their little pairs in the middle as well, but that didnt take away the overall love. go watch it.
#1 - hospital playlist - the band
Tumblr media
im a recent to hosplay bandwagon, but. i fell in love. finished the (almost) entire show in nearly a week, an achievement considering it's my finals rn. we've got the piggies, buddha who is catholic, the guy who knows everybody and his dad. it was the little things with them for me, really. when they called jeong won andrea like that was so cute. when jun wan called seok hyeong ik jun's dad it made me laugh so much. and the fact that they're really not that close when u think about it but they still are? like that is adult friendships and we love.

I love your bakery!reader x ranpo hcs that you did and I'm here bearing with another request!
I was watching extraordinary attorney woo and then there this one scene in EP 2 that I absolutely love and want to have a bsd rendition of
Basically the reader and the guys (Dazai and kunikida separately) have to go undercover in a hotel for an investigation. They decided to go as a couple who's going to get married since the hotel is known for it wedding services.
Reader tries out a wedding dress while he subtly collect info. Hcs for how they react to seeing their crush in a wedding dress 👀
a/n : hey, first of all thank you !! i'm glad you liked them <3 second, i just started watching this k-drama !! + at first… i didn’t read “hcs”, so there also scenarios about this :”) hope you don’t mind. by the way, in these one-shots + hcs the wedding outfit isn't described, so it can be interpreted as a suit/tuxedo, a bridal gown or another item of clothing, basically anything y'all feel more comfortable with !
Tumblr media
“SOMEDAY, I’LL MARRY YOU”
[ masterlist ] [ reblogs are v v v appreciated !! ]
fluff, maybe a bit of angst in dazai’s but nothing too major ig, romantic relationship (not estabilished yet), osamu dazai, doppo kunikida (separately) x gn!reader (they/them prns used)
warning(s) : not proofread !

DOPPO KUNIKIDA :
[ ☆ ] absolutely lovestruck.
[ ☆ ] he’d try anything to seem impassible about the current situation, because he’s absolutely not affected in the slightest/sarc.
[ ☆ ] however, his reddened ears and neck say otherwise.
[ ☆ ] they’re stunning, they’re stunning, is all he can repeat to himself.
[ ☆ ] make a fool of him for his behaviour and he will bask in a state of self-pity.
[ ☆ ] he’ll write something in his notebook along the lines of “day x, my soul left my body because of my infatuation for [name]. how am i suppose to look at them again, after how i behaved?”
[ ☆ ] ‘dramatic’ or not, he’d need a few days to recover from this embarassing experience.
doppo was nearly always a diligent, reliable person anyone could count on, accomplishing his work with extreme earnestness and without causing much trouble as he acted composed and confident in his abilities; that, however, didn’t mean he wasn’t internally panicking, questioning himself which was the right way to go in order to respect his ideal and at the same time not to cause drastic effects on the outside world.
in fact, quite a few cases he had to fulfill had been indeed stressful: working at the agency wasn’t something easy nor peaceful.
nevertheless, this time kunikida felt a different kind of uneasiness making its way in his chest, a more bearable one which was however rendering him still nervous. the worst part was that he was absolutely aware of the reason behind this tormenting and exhausting emotion.
an all too familiar, and welcomed to his ears, voice snapped him back to reality: “doppo, we’ve arrived at the destination. could you pass me the documents contained in your briefcase regarding our miss- wedding, dear?”
he was well conscious that you said those words to not make the taxi driver suspicious, but his heart still skipped a beat or two.
“of course,” he answered, almost too quickly, and passed you the folder regarding the case, avoiding your gaze the best he could. he didn’t want you to notice the blush present on his cheeks.
doppo couldn’t accept the state he was in, the state you put him in. his focus should have been on the mission you two had to complete, on the obstacles both of you could have encountered that day, not on you nor on your fake-programmed wedding. yes, it was only a cover for the actual mission, but due to his true feelings he couldn’t help but feel a little worried at the thought of it. what would have you thought, if he let the words he couldn’t bear to think about slip from his mouth?
he sighed and some common sense seemed to take hold of him through his quiet breath.
work was still work no matter what he could have thought: it didn’t change his priority, that was the case. he had to simply do his job, like he always did.
after paying the taxi driver, you both got out of the vehicle and looked at the famous hotel in front of you, gently illuminated by the morning light: it gave the building an imposing aura, which suited the rumors about the hotel perfectly.
as you two walked through the entrance door and made sure to present yourselves with your false documents and identities, a staff member accompanied both of you to a comfortable room where someone — probably their manager — was waiting for you on a beige armchair.
the initial talk lasted some time, especially because of kunikida’s subtle questions, which were used to get more information about that enchanting yet bizarre place, and your attempts to seem his romantic partner.
now, you had to try a wedding outfit for the mission’s sake. doppo looked down at his wristwatch: fifteen more minutes and then you could have discussed peacefully about the case without prying eyes watching your every movement.
a sudden rastle made him raise his head and, when he saw your figure wrapped in the fabric of the wedding outfit, his heart started pumping faster.
describing you with the adjective “wonderful” would have been a terrible understatement.
“love, what do you think about—“ your words died in your throat at the sight of your work colleague being so mesmerized by your new look.
kunikida cleared his throat and compliment your outfit without showing his emotions through his voice, trying to seem perfectly fine. which he wasn’t, for the matter.
one day i’ll marry them, he thought with a self-assuredness he didn’t ever suppose to own.

OSAMU DAZAI :
[ ☆ ] he isn’t someone who expresses his genuine feelings often. in order to manage them, they have to be suppressed by him/neg.
[ ☆ ] but, sometimes he can be caught by surprise, without being able to disguise what’s on his mind.
[ ☆ ] so, looking at you with a wedding outfit on would cause him to… well, short out.
[ ☆ ] the glint in his eyes and the look of pure astonishment present on his charmed gaze would betray his false composure.
[ ☆ ] for one of the few times in his life, osamu would be at a loss for words.
closeness: a relationship stage where the two or more people involved began to grew closer to each other, a warm feeling of belonging which allowed human beings to trust other individuals. something that osamu had experienced in his past, something that now caused almost dread in his heart at the sole thought of it. it didn’t matter if it was of a platonic or romantic nature, the young man couldn’t seem to rest, not if it meant to think about his deepest wishes and fears.
as he looked at the documents on the table, dazai melancholically suspired.
if he didn’t have an infatuation on you, it would have been easier to play his role, to act indifferent and suppress his feelings, as he always did; however, in this case, he should have been sincere about his own emotions, a thing which he feared more than anything: something of such nature, as thoughts and feelings were, couldn’t be controlled. and, to not be in control meant to be vulnerable, with no protection. when moments like these came, where his mind was wandering too fast, the loss of control and certainty dazai made sure to have at any time started to become a terrible burden. he didn’t wish to be hurt again.
the fact that he — osamu dazai, a former member of the armed detective agency who possessed an incredible intellect and was always aware of his surroundings — didn’t notice your presence because of his thoughts about you was another thing that had to be added at the list of cons about his infatuation. though, the thing was that he was doing his best to disregard the pros.
“osamu, did you find anything about the case yet?”, your voice interrupted his internal ramblings, “a track or clues, perhaps? i talked with some staff members but their mouths seem sealed: i didn’t get anything out of our conversations, unfortunately”.
dazai couldn’t help but genuinely wonder about the carefulness present in your voice when you called him by his name: when did you start using it to refer to him? when did your relationship as colleagues take this turn? especially, why, deep in his heart, did he seem to appreciate it?
“hmm, not quite yet. i still need some time to gather other information,” he slowly spoke, still confused by his own mind.
a playful grin appeared on your lips. “it just so happens that we will soon have to try our wedding clothes on, and there we’ll have plenty of time to investigate. so, i suggest you get ready”.
both of you passed the way to the dress room cautiously discussing the mission and joking about your situation. when you arrived at your destination, osamu was the first who had to try his outfit: although he would have liked picking something to just annoy you, pretending to be back to himself, in the end dazai chose a classic wedding suit.
however, when it was your turn, he suddenly became nervous: he distracted himself trying to vaguely question some of the staff members. but, when you appeared in front of him with the wedding outfit on, he almost risked fainting.
they’re… wow. i’ll marry them, someday.
“uh, is the outfit that bad?” you pouted, confused, half reciting and half sincere.
osamu wasted no time to deny your question. “no no— my dearest, this outfit suits you very well. you’re… stunning, indeed”.
“oh, that look is full of love, [surname]. you can’t be mistaken, he’ll surely be a good husband”, a staff member said between compliments.
now was your turn to be too shocked to answer.

I want to take just a quick second to talk about the Wat x Sani ship in The Eclipse and Our Skyy 2: The Eclipse, which prompted a little conversation among drama friends today. (As well, thanks to the dear @aprilblossomgirl for the lovely reblog and tags partly on this topic, too.)
The teacher/student ship is obviously a controversial one, and citing from my conversation with drama friends earlier today, the boss/employee ship may also fall into this controversial category as well.
WHY? What are some factors that get people jibbly about these kinds of ships?
Clearly, the power dynamic between the dyads: with implied or explicit hierarchy, it may be assumed that the uke in these situations may be heavily influenced by the power dynamic and may feel a NEED to participate in the dyad.
There may also be age bias against a woman, if the dyad is het and the woman is either older and/or a seme.
There may also be what I call implicit or explicit compassion bias against a uke. This is what I want to really unwind in this post.
Do we assume that because Wat is younger than Sani, that Wat should be “protected” from the potential ship, because Sani is older and a teacher?
I think I want to be careful of making assumptions there. WHY? Because I think Golf CLEARLY knows what they’re doing here.
I’d be jibbly of this ship IF Sani is demonstrating behavioral tics that are typical of a worrisome power dynamic, such as grooming and/or gaslighting.
That didn’t happen in The Eclipse: The Series or OS2. Sani is clearly a mentor and friend in this situation. Sani is also closer in age to Wat than we might assume because, remember, she was just starting at Suppalo when the series started. So she might have a better read on what the boys are going through, emotionally, than the older teachers.
Besides Sani, there’s Wat. More implicit in the series, and explicit in OS2: Wat is nostalgic for his time spent with Sani, and how they’ll keep in touch after he graduates.
Now before I jump into my main bias point, I just want to say that I *think* Wat and Sani’s movie bit will indicate that Sani will friend zone Wat -- that’s how I *think* this’ll end. But, to my main bias point:
Last year, when I wrote about Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Utsukushii Kare: Season 1, I noted that Woo Young Woo and Hira are two potential subjects of implicit compassion bias. We as viewers may have unknown sympathy or compassion for Young Woo and Hira -- that may then PREVENT US from BELIEVING that they can make decisions on their own, with their own agency.
Therapists are trained to be aware of this compassion bias. It’s a POWER THING on OUR end as therapists/parents/drama viewers. We might feel SO protective of our simps that we’ve CONVINCED ourselves that they NEED to be protected.
That’s no good. Young Woo was perfectly capable of making all her own decisions and didn’t need our sympathy/compassion. (Jun Ho knew this, and that’s why I think he was so confident in going after her.) Hira may not have had full social awareness for how much Kiyoi loved him, but Hira didn’t need our protection and sympathy. Yes, Hira was bullied, but he could also bully back.
So, to Wat. My man. He knows what he’s doing. He’s calling Sani, telling her his feelings. He’s either an adult or on the cusp of being an adult.
If I’m Wat’s counselor -- or HIS MOTHER, gasp -- I’d wanna know this entire deal. (Okay, as his mom, I’m lookin’ at Sani CLOSELY, but not making a blanket judgment.) I see Sani NOT grooming or gaslighting Wat. I see Sani listening to Wat. I see Sani supporting Wat in his dreams as a filmmaker and giving him advice and guidance.
And I’m letting Wat unwind this. Again: Golf knows what they’re doing. Wat’s an adult. The boys have become adults. Young adults, sure, but they’re adults, who deserve to operate under their own agency.
One thing that I am loving about my road trip through the old Thai BLs -- especially in watching Make It Right right now -- is that these filmmakers are ALLOWING YOUNG ADULTS to young adult. Teenagers have sex. (Oh, oh yes they do, in Make It Right, oh yes.) And young adults may fall in love with older adults! It certainly happens. Young adults may even have their first sexual experiences with older adults.
I like that people like Golf and New Siwaj are letting this happen for their characters, because I do believe it reflects reality, and it challenges some assumed characteristics of dyads that many viewers may feel jibbly about and may not want to see in their art.
These filmmakers are not afraid of the jibbly stuff. Wat doesn’t need our protection. Sani is not behaving in a way that’s concerning. I think she’s being presented as perfectly reasonable and supportive of Wat. Nothing’s happened to indicate that she’s behaving problematically towards Wat. If Wat wants to crush, let’s let him crush, because it’s a safe environment for him to learn about himself. And even if they get together (again, I’m not calling that by what I saw in episode 1 today), I’ll be fine with it, because I think Sani is behaving perfectly reasonably, and I’m aware that I don’t want to have an age bias against her for being an older member of this dyad. (And Wat’s the seme here, btw, clearly.)
That’s my two cents on this ship. I’m supportive of it. Let’s see if it goes tomorrow, and to where.
(CC @lurkingshan, @shortpplfedup, @ginnymoonbeam, @bengiyo, and I don’t know if @wen-kexing-apologist or anyone else might have thoughts on this, too!)

Rules: list 10 of your comfort shows and then tag 10 people
Tagged by @bengiyo . I actually don't rewatch shows very often, or at least not the same ones every time, but here's some shows I've watched a lot of in no particular order.
Alien Biospheres. This is a YouTube series but I've watched it a lot. If you watched James Cameron's Avatar and don't care about the plot but would watch a documentary on how they designed the creatures + plants this is the webseries for you. If you like spec bio then I would also recommend Serina.
Cherry Magic. I write songs for fun and my life is too boring to be great inspiration, so most of them reference scenarios in shows I'm watching that I find funny or just stick with me for some reason. Kurosawa's personality inspired one of my best ones.
Coffee Prince. This got me into kdrama + so much of it still holds up. Like, remember how homophobic the 2000s were? That's a feat.
The King's Affection. This is like the best girl disguises as a guy kdrama since Coffee Prince, and I watched a lot of them before I figure out I was nonbinary. I was glued to my seat. My writing project @the-prince-is-not-a-woman was partially inspired by me watching this so many times.
Mortel. It's like this show was made for me. Vodun, found family, polyamorus subtext, mystery, despising someone but having noone else to turn to, trauma, comedy, banger music. It was made by Netflix though, so of course it was cancelled on a cliffhanger.
Power Rangers 2017. This film is objectively goofy but I love it so much. Billy was the first explicitly autistic character I think I saw ever, and he set my expectations for canonically autistic characters high.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Apart from being a good show, Attorney Woo is the only other character on my list of canonically autistic characters that I like, which is funny because both attorney Woo and Billy were played by allistic actors.
The Path. I enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 but I've rewatched season 3 many times for my baby Caleb. I talked about a pastor's son and he's like the perfect example. If the show hadn't tragically been cancelled I would have loved to see what they did with his character, because after leaving his family for his boyfriend and by extension his boyfriend's daddy's apocalypse adjacent cult (which is a positive if you can believe it) socially speaking he was essentially in the same position he started off in, minus worrying about homophobia. He could have blossomed or spiralled, who knows. That's quality side character creation. This show also inspired the list "cheating on your girlfriend with your wife" which has to be the best of my lists of niche tropes.
Triage: time travel and time loop stories can so easily swerve into being terrible when there isn't enough thought put into the time travel mechanic but when they're good they're really good.
Shelter 2007: so many of the queer films I watched as a teenager were depressing, I could have given up on ql entirely if I didn't watch this heartwarming film.
Honourable mentions:
Be My Favourite. It finished airing literally 2 months ago so it really hasn't had time to gain the status of old reliable but yeah. I've watched episode 1 probably 10 times at this point, because I would pore over the whole show waiting for the next episode. I was writing essays.
Nowhere Boys: I love forced proximity + conspirationality. It's one of the reasons I love Mortel. It's a quality teen drama.
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Chat Noir, aka Miraculous Ladybug. This show is my Riverdale. It's ridiculous and I don't recommend it and I can't watch the english dub because I'd cringe too much so I watch it in French, but I started watching when I was like 15 so I'm locked in forever. It keeps dragging me back.
Going to try my hand at actually tagging people so,,,

oh yeah i started watching extraordinary attorney woo and by god it deserves the praise.
i was kinda hesitant jumping in because i thought it would be a VERY stereotypical “autistic genius” trope but it’s actually really good at representing the full autistic experience. i could honestly go on and on about what they did well (illustrating how special interests are a means of processing the world, body language that’s so accurate that the main character has one of the exact same stims as me, explicit use of terms like echolalia and teaching the audience what it means, the fact that it’s female autistic rep in the first place); but what hits most was her monologue in the first episode.
i can’t stop thinking about it. she talks about how she’s viewed as both a genius and an idiot; a genius because of her good grades and technical intellect, but an idiot because she struggles with understanding certain implicit things (like the timing of entering revolving doors). and god it hit so hard. it’s probably the best i’ve ever seen my personal experience with autism represented. having a 4.0 and honors isn’t going to save you from not knowing how to navigate crowds or social situations; in some situations you feel smarter than everyone around you, and in others you’re the most clueless.

Castaway Diva - Wrap Up Review
Tumblr media
I'm not quite sure what it was, but something about Castaway Diva felt like something of a throw back to the K-drama golden age of the early 2010s. Perhaps it was the plot(s - there were a lot of them), perhaps it was the characters (who were both deeply traumatised and wonderfully carefree), perhaps it was the way it was a simply just very fun watch (as long as you didn't think about it too hard, once you started asking questions things got a little holey).
Overall I did have a good time watching this; I liked the characters, I enjoyed their different dynamics, I even liked some of the songs, which is not normally the case for me with musical dramas but Dream Us is now on a playlist and I've looked up a few of the other songs too. The story itself was a relatively fun ride too, although it did suffer from being, for lack of a better phrase, very over stuffed. Domestic abuse, identity theft, the politics of the Korean entertainment industry, a social re-intergration plotline, a love triangle, and more all jostled for screen time and dominance and there were definitely times when it felt like were two completely different dramas going on at once, ones which just happened to be sharing sets and a cast. That feeling only grew as the drama progressed, unfortunately, along with the suspicion that, because Castaway Diva couldn't decide on what it wanted to be, both major plotlines suffered as a result.
One thing I did really enjoy the whole way through was the cast. Park Eun Bin was as stunning as always (although for the first 2 episodes it did sometimes feel like she was trying to shake off the last vestiges of Extraordinary Attorney Woo); it was great to see Chae Jong Hyeop in a lead role again; and Hakyeon impressed a lot as the second male lead with an actual heart of gold. I also really enjoyed Kim Hyo Jin as Kim Ran Joo, it was my first time seeing her in any role and she definitely left a very positive impression, so positive that I'm planning to keep an eye on what she does next.
Equally impressive as the adults were Lee Re as young Mok Ha and Moon Woo Jin as young Ki Ho, both of whom put on such compelling performances that I almost wished we could have had a drama solely dedicated to their lives on the island. Their performances and plotline were some of the highlights of the entire show for me and perhaps therein lies the main problem: the first episode was so impactful but so different from everything that came after it that my mind kept drifting back to those first 60 minutes and wanting more, wanting it so much that the fact that there wasn't more felt like a genuine loss, the loss of a very different, much darker, much more serious drama-that-could-have-been.
TLDR Stats
🎧 Music: 7.5/10 - Dream Us is on repeat and the other songs weren't skipped.
🎭 Acting: 8.5/10 - They carried the many plots and they carried them well.
📑 Story: 7.0/10 - The writers should have picked one story to focus on instead of trying to shoehorn two very different it's into one drama. The bits we got of each drama were pretty good and would only have got better if the focus was solely on them.
👩‍⚖️ Overall: 7.5/10 - I enjoyed it while I was watching it but I doubt I'll be watching it again.
🙆‍♀️ Rec for: People who are looking for a relatively light, uncomplicated watch with highly enjoyable chemistry between characters although be warned the first episode is anything but light.
🙅‍♀️ Wreck for: People who like to ask the question "why?" when watching dramas.

hard agree w your post about male characters being so humanized by fans at all levels of pathetic and powerful, meanwhile female characters remain one-dimensional “queens” at best. (an aside, there’s a fun song called “don’t call me queen” by jaguar jonze and haru nemuri that touches on this phenomenon.) would you mind sharing some of your favourite female characters and strugglewomen? i’m in the mood to get obsessed with a new fictional failgirl ☺️
ty for the song rec! it's a fun bop :')
also re: recommendations-- if you haven't watched person of interest or read the southern reach series yet you absolutely should do so immediately do not pass go do not collect 2000 dollars
partly because they have incredible female characters, yeah (root (poi) and the biologist (southern reach) are two of my favourite characters of all time and poi in particular also has shaw, carter, the machine, control, kara... so many good women) but also because they are both just legitimately incredible in so many other ways, too. especially the southern reach series.
off the top of my head some other stuff with female characters that are fun in the way men usually get to be:
obligatory locked tomb recommendation even though i'm pretty sure everyone on tumblr has heard of it by now lol. so so so so many awful, pathetic, deranged women in it though <3 in so many flavours. so it's still a mandatory mention
borne (by the same author as the southern reach series)
thoroughbreds
dishonored 2 and dishonored: death of the outsider (emily, billie, and delilah are all So Good. u should start with disonored 1 because it's a continuous narrative trilogy and also it's a good game but fair warning that the first game is slim pickings when it comes to any women at all lol. DLC does have delilah and billie in it at least.)
stoker
the imperial radch series
and then there were none (2015)
unironically skulduggery pleasant lol
shadowrun: dragonfall (you should play hong kong too but my two fave female characters are in dragonfall)
widows
like any sarah waters
pathfinder: wrath of the righteous (kingmaker has a rly gr8 female character too but there's a lot less companion content in it than wotr so ymmv on whether it's worth it if you're just playing it for her. good game in general though!)
like any shirley jackson but especially we have always lived in the castle
i had Some Issues with the power by naomi alderman but it was still a fun idea executed well
divinity: original sin 2
extraordinary attorney woo
unironically final fantasy 13 lol again
these ones don't really count because they weren't conceived as women but if you play as a woman it adds a fun extra character/narrative dimension imo: prey, tyranny, cyberpunk 2077
this is more of an adjacent rec but if u like cheesy genre lesbian stuff with various permutations of dirtbag women then read like any lee winters book lmao
i hope you'll find at least some stuff you like!! definitely am gonna shoot awake at 3AM going "oh no if forgot xyz how" but this is a good start i think kdfgjd

SBS Hyena, episode 1 rewatch (part 1)
I wrote this at least a couple of years ago, and it languished in my drafts after that. It's part episode recap with a dash of style analysis. Disclaimer: I'm not trained in fashion or style writing - anything I know is from reading other people doing style/fashion/costuming analysis. This is meant to be fun, and I hope you have fun reading this if you enjoyed the show, or even if you haven't and were looking for reasons to start.
Okay, let’s hit it!
This opening of this show is so distracting I did not connect it to the final scene of this episode until after having watched it maybe fifty times. They knew what they were doing, giving us a hot guy in the shower, displaying very fetching abs that probably required Ju Ji-hoon to dehydrate himself for a week. (But let's put a pin in my reflections.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Montage aside and speaking of reflections: this is the first time we ever see Yoon Hee-jae in the story. Yes, it’s in his smirking reflection. I guess we could say that's a coincidence, but I also think it means that the way he sees himself is probably not congruent with who he is on the inside, and his arc in this show deconstructs that perception he has (and in a way, we have, as viewers) of Yoon Hee-jae.
Tumblr media
This trial gave me the giggles when I re-watched it, because it sounds like Hee-jae and Prosecutor Kwon are having a leisurely - if somewhat antagonistic -  banter over coffee. (This is not unrealistic; it would probably be exhausting to keep up with the yelling throughout.)
Tumblr media
Prosecutor Kwon - or the actor who plays him, Lee Ki-chan - is quite handsome, but they've shafted him here with Coke bottle glasses and unsexily messed-up hair. (I went to look up his name and learned that he played Bae Doona's totally vile, Ha Chan-hoish brother in Sense8, which I never would have known. He's also a talented singer and musician, because hey, why NOT. THE RANGE, YOUR HONOUR.)
That gown is only flattering on one person, and that is one Mr Cho Seung-woo. Who also looks great in thigh high boots and glitter eyeshadow, so you know what, that's not saying much.
Tumblr media
This smirk is both hot, and endlessly immature. Ju Ji-hoon's mouth does lots of good work here. (As Jung Geum-ja can surely attest to, heyo!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ga Gi-hyeok is suited up here (a three-piece, even, which notably only Song Pil-jung wears, to my memory, so this is maybe a bit of a faux pas on his part), but he's not commonly in a suit, often opting for a sweater in the office.
For context: Kang Tae-oh - who memorably played K-Drama's Boyfriend and a paralegal in Extraordinary Attorney Woo - also wears sweaters at the office over shirts, with fairly informal jackets and overcoats, whereas his friend Attorney Kwon - who's about the same age - wears formal, if moderately fun, suits. In Chief of Staff, Lee Jung-jae never wears a white shirt as the titular chief of staff, and only Song Hui-seop, his boss, wears white. The first time we see Lee Jung-jae in white, he's an Assemblyman. I can't say to what extent these patterns are adapted from Korean society, which is probably very regimented and class-bound in its own way, but I really appreciate how fashion and costuming are used to implicitly denote class and status, telling their own story.
A personal aside: as an intern, I once wore a sweater/blouse/skirt combo to work, prompting an acquaintance to ask me why I was dressed like a secretary. In the present day, I absolutely do not care and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with dressing “like a secretary” - whatever that means - but back then I remember feeling embarrassed by this, like I’d flouted a rulebook I couldn’t access. Corporate dressing isn’t just about what to wear, it’s about what not to wear and how that might denote that you’re not an insider.
So Ga Gi-hyeok’s clothes might be reflective of two things: 1) his social class - I don't think Gi-hyeok belongs to Hee-jae's level of upper crust; 2) his base-level  insecurity about his position. That is going to be significant later.
Yes, that is the lovely young sweet Attorney Na, in an olive suit. This is not a colour we see any of the other goslings wearing (goslings, because geese are assholes, and these boys - and they are all boys - seem like baby assholes themselves, except Attorney Mr Na.)
Tumblr media
I hate Ha Chan-ho. I hate the entire Ha family, who are all deliciously great at their jobs of being terrible chaebols. I feel like Ha Chan-ho saw his dad's cravats and went, I want that, but make it 10x douchier. This cravat is not hooked to anything, because he doesn’t wear a shirt. He’ll be taking off that jacket later and he’ll be topless, on the steps of a courthouse. Ew.
-infinity/10, docking points for the lack of a goddamn shirt and also being an abusive jerkface.
Tumblr media
Attorney Ma is wearing a double-breasted suit here and he looks cute. 7/10, because this difficulty setting is high. He’s actually...not wrong about many things, including Yoon Hee-jae’s dick moves.
Tumblr media
Yoon Hee-jae is jacketless here. I don't know if this is a first episode thing, but this changes very, very quickly, as we shall soon see.
Tumblr media
We will never again see Yoon Hee-jae UNBUTTONED, with something in his mouth and his SHIRTTAILS HANGING OUT. This was remarkably unusual, because he's almost pathologically buttoned up for the rest of the series. I think this could be one of two things: 1) the costumers were still forming his wardrobe preferences or 2) this was a neat way to get across his carelessness and perhaps, vulnerability to what's about to come. Nonetheless, 9/10 for the messy distracted Yoon Hee-jae.
I recapped this episode for my Instagram and the concept of a partner in a law firm doing his own laundry was just so ridiculous I dedicated two slides to bitching about it. But now I just don't care, because…
Tumblr media
Hot damn. THEM. THEM.
(To be continued! Next up: love letters to who else but Kim Hye-soo, of course)

~ getting to know your BL mutuals ~
I was tagged by the lovely @i-got-the-feels and @bl-recs-and-reviews 🥰 Thank you so much!
rules: answer the questions and @ some people. Include the tag 'g2ky BL mutuals 2022' on your post so we can find everyone's answer.
What have been the BLs that took you by surprise this year?
Once Again – I never thought that a series could make me feel so conflicted between pure enjoyment of watching it and pure devastation in the end. It is both a comfort watch and a catharsis watch.
Choco Milk Shake – the idea of a cat and dog coming back to life as humans to make their former owner happy again was something else and first I was just curious, but I fell in love with it within the first second Choco and Milk appeared on screen. They’ve done such a well job portraying the dog’s and cat’s behaviour as humans without being cringy or embarrassing.
Happy Ending Romance – I enjoy the way this story is told so much. And reading the synopsis I had something different in mind. The storytelling is like a good book. It is exciting, but some times you need to use your own mind to make the story whole, to see behind the actions of the people. It is a show that makes you use your brain and I like that.
180 degree longitude passes through us – When I first saw the trailer I knew I would love it, but never had I thought I would love it that much. It has such a deep and complex story! And it helped me back into writing about my thoughts and to express my feelings. And the cinematography and the writing were just outstanding for me. Beautiful.
Old Fashion Cupcake – A story about two “older” men eating desserts and bonding over it? Never thought I would feel so vulnerable watching this. It restored something in me. At first, I had no intention in watching it, because it sounded not that interesting, but damn, how wrong I was. One of the most beautiful stories of the year and one of the reasons why I give every show a chance now, perhaps there is a hidden gem behind a not so interesting synopsis.
Secret Crush On You – First I thought I would just feel a lot of this second-hand embarrassment and cringe through the episodes, but I fell in love with the characters and the series touched my heart in a special way. It just makes me happy!
What have been the BLs that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?
Senpai this can’t be love – It had such a good start and I really liked it, but the last episode was just not good and it ruined my whole feeling for this show.
Check Out – just what the hell was this?
Coffee Melody – it sounded so cute and good and in the end it was just bland and Duean was unlikable.
Star and Sky: Sky in your heart – I liked star in my mind and thought they keep up the fluffy and sweet storytelling, but Fah became boring and unappealing. But I liked the character of Prince. He was a cutie.
What has been your favorite BL this year?
Just one? Really? Well, I just go with my heart and my heart tells me “Once Again”. I don’t know why, but I have some very strong emotions about this show. And yes, I love Love Mechanics and 180 degree longitude passes through us, but the emotional impact was something different with “Once Again”.
Favorite BL couples (not just of 2022)?
I don’t know where to start! There are so many, but these are the ones I can think of right now:
Mark x Vee
Pat x Pran
Togawa x Nozue
Jaeyoung x Sangwoo
Phupha x Tian
Shi Yu Zhen x Shi Lei
Kawin x Pluem
What's your non-BL favorite this year?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo – I haven’t watched many things beside bl, but this one was so good! I loved the different cases, and the character development and the romance and the fact that Joon Ho was just a big walking green flag. I love him!
Now to the tagging part. I don't know if you have been already tagged, but here we go, just remember just ignore me, if you don't want to: @pose4photoml @smittenskitten @djeterg19 @moonlightchicken @liyazaki @essentiallykpopandbl @vera9 @talays-portkey @thiansong @snimeat

Dear Endless Expanse of Space,
I've started watching The Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and I think something the show does extremely well is showing how neurotypicals have a tendency to set rules for autistic people that they themselves do not follow.
This is particularly clear in episode 6 ("If I Were A Whale...") when Woo Young Woo is repeatedly given rules for when she is allowed to speak by the judge, but none of the neurotypical attorneys follow these rules, aside from Choi raising her hand once, immediately after the judge says attorneys need to raise their hands to speak.
It reminded me so much and rather unpleasantly of when I was a kid and I would wonder why it seemed like other people could be upset about and get away with things but I wasn't allowed.
It's just... not something that I typically see in a lot of media featuring autistic people; especially because Western media tends to promote a stereotype of an autistic person, in which imposing these arbitrary rules seems "reasonable" because otherwise the autistic person would be annoying/overbearing/embarrassing/out of line and it's really nice to see it framed as the ridiculous power play that it is for once.

I’ve been SO EXCITED to write this: KINN! PORSCHE! META!
Yes, I am terribly, terribly late to writing this and I admittedly only started watching the series with two or three episodes left as I was just joining Tumblr. But my dash pushed me to watch the series and I’m so glad I did. KinnPorsche is also my first Thai BL drama (actually my first Thai drama, too) ever, so if I’m missing any obvious Thai BL trope references, I apologize in advance.
The whole origin story of KinnPorsche is super fascinating, not the least that Mile Phakphum himself, as one of the lead actors and key producers, had full awareness of his own role both in plot and show development. Considering the central point I want to make in this meta, I think this straddling between reality and drama that Mile was able to achieve with screenwriter Pond Krisda helped the cast and crew to achieve the environmental effect that I think helped the show become the absolute success that it is.
By environmental effect, what I’m referring to is the universe that KinnPorsche created. I’ve seen posts and tweets here on Tumblr refer to complaints by other viewers that it wouldn’t be at all realistic that such a universe as KinnPorsche -- one in which multiple family members, friends, and acquaintances are queer and/or exploring -- could ever exist.
That is such lazy and bullshit thinking, and I think the high majority of viewers who followed this show know that that discriminatory thinking is also bullshit. I know, and have worked with, families and communities with all manner of layers of queerness and spectrum-traversing identities and expressions contained in their circles.
I’ve written before that what keeps me coming back to Asian dramas across the continent is that so much content is written to be family-centric in emotional and behavioral structures that I understand intrinsically as an Asian-American. Sure, there is PLENTY about KinnPorsche that kept me very hooked:
- gorgeous men
- gorgeous men in VERY VISUALLY COMPELLING situations, heh
- fabulous acting and cinematography
- fantastic balance of comedy, drama, and camp
- Tankhun, the absolute god(dess)
- Jeff Satur (he’s otherworldly!)
But as the kind of viewer I am, what I’m looking for in a drama is what’s unsaid, what’s left unspoken about the show’s internal reality. (For instance, I’ve written a lot about Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and how that show normalized the agency that an autistic individual SHOULD rightly have in determining her professional and romantic fates, despite society’s demands that she depend on others to make those decisions for her.)
What was left unsaid, unspoken, in KinnPorsche for me was a family aspect that I very much enjoyed, focused namely on our head patriarch, Korn. Korn, a man who’ll stop at nothing to ensure the success and security of his family as the major entity of an extensive crime syndicate.
As I mentioned before, what I loved about KinnPorsche was the environmental effect of queerness as a given throughout the show. The only moment I can think of where we saw overt homophobia was Big forcing Porsche into Kinn’s room early in the series, and Porsche calling Big out.
What I DIDN’T see in KinnPorsche was something that I think taints a lot of Western content about queerness -- namely (ugh), how do the other characters feel about queerness? And usually, those “other” characters I’m referring to are, say, cishet family members or friends who have to go through their journeys of acceptance for the main queer characters to be accepted in the worlds of those cishet individuals.
To me, this kind of construct is so unnecessary Western, centering on each supporting individual’s process of acceptance as a necessary plot line before the Western show can even create a world in which queerness is an unspoken given. (I want to quickly just say, as a tangent, that I think Western writers, directors, and studios think that Western audiences demand this, because our Western culture is so self-demanding, selfish, and self-referential. Namely, how could a Western audience ever relate to a universe of queerness? Western writers need to make their content about the cishet audience first, and queerness second. The last thing I ever need to see again on Western screens is a cishet parent coming to terms with a child’s queerness. We are in the 21st century. I don’t need those stories anymore!)
So, in comparison to these constructs that I continue to see in the West -- what did KinnPorsche give us?
KinnPorsche gave us a relatively sociopathic, relatively bloodthirsty, and murderous crime head in Korn, a guy who cares about his family in kind of twisted ways, and someone who clearly offs family members (like Gun and Thee) before allowing the business to be affected. In other words, he’s a good crime character, a wack-ass rationalizer who’s scary and calculating.
As far as I can recall, the only reference he ever made to the queerness of any of his three sons was when he spoke with Kinn about hooking up with Porsche their first night in the hotel room. And it wasn’t a conversation about, like, omg Kinn ur gayyyy?? It was -- what were you thinking, sleeping with your bodyguard? As a mom, if my kids needed bodyguards (wow), I might ask the same question!
In other words, Korn, at the moment of time that we saw in KinnPorsche, was just a dad. A crime-driven dad who cared for his family business and his sons. At no time did the queerness of his sons need to be separately contextualized for anyone else or anything related to work.
Tankhun and Kinn were integral parts of the business meetings and decisions. Tankhun gave his input -- fabulously, of course, but we never saw Korn wince. We never, EVER saw Korn embarrassed. To Korn, these were his sons, the men who would inherit the family business after his passing. Who they were vis à vis their queerness was never an issue for Korn, and never written as an issue for the show. Korn’s focus was solely about keeping the family and the business together.
I LOVED THIS.
I loved that the queerness of Korn’s sons was never separately contextualized or discussed. It was a total non-issue for Korn. He’s a dad who needed to run his business and loves his sons. That’s it. That’s the lesson that parents need to see and emulate as we raise our own kids (okay, maybe not the crime part, heh).
While I complain about Western content, there are, of course, volumes of Asian BL shows that deal with the unspoken aspects of queer discrimination in Asian societies.
However, we didn’t see discrimination in KinnPorsche, and the universe that KinnPorsche created didn’t NEED it. And frankly, while the show attracted its whiners, I think the show absolutely pulled off the universe convincingly. This may need its own meta, but Porsche himself as a fluidly bisexual lead was also brilliant and important and incredible to watch.
The fact that there was no JOURNEY to watch, a journey of “acceptance” -- I didn’t miss it, and the show didn’t need it. The guys were there, they were themselves, and their world was theirs, without any other extraneous conversation about belonging or acceptance.
After all that I’ve read and re-blogged about KinnPorsche, I’m thankful this is another one of the dramas I’ve watched that left me feeling totally blissed out after watching it. I needed a lot of time to decompress while and after watching it, because SO MUCH HAPPENED in that fictional world, and is still happening in the world of Be On Cloud and Mile and Apo and all the guys. I understand why the KinnPorsche tag and fandom are still cranking out content strong -- there’s so much to process.
Mile and Apo and Pond and the Be On Cloud guys deserve all the success and joys that the show has given them, and I can’t wait to see the movie that they’re developing next. If the writing is half as good as KinnPorsche, it’ll be a joy to watch.
