Wicks work so well for Hobie’s character design bro. They’re such a distinctly Black hairstyle and they kinda look like classic liberty spikes

And also?? Totally something Hobie would wear. I feel like locs and wicks demand less precision and uniformity where braids, cornrows and bantu knots do.

That and wicks deviate from the standard afro and make Hobie stand out. They also help him passively occupy more space in each frame which I think represents the kind of person he is so well.
