"Nice argument, Unfortunately,"

This took me a lot of time to draw and finish... Figuring out which character correspond to which phase, I have to redraw Yuika, Vic and Mick's sketches due to feeling dissatisfied with the pose/drawing, drawing Mayor Cain (Which as Only ONE official art)... Accidentally unifying the lineart with the coloring layer and having to redraw it over it in orden to add the remaining shading...

But it was worth it! My favorite one to draw is Dark Kirisaki, but I laugh at Mick's.

Remembering Danny Hargrove 1958-2024

Sad news this past week that musician Danny Hargrove has died at 65. Normally when I write an obit (unless it's someone I knew or was an expert in), I share an obit that's in the press and add my thoughts. There hasn't really been much in the press with the exception of Medico Topics, but I feel he deserves a proper tribute.

When Joe Perry left Aerosmith in 1979, he formed the Joe Perry Project, who put out three solid albums between 1980 and 1983 each with a different lineup. After Perry re-joined Aerosmith in 1984, he has released some solo and Joe Perry Project albums as well. The third album they released was 1983's Once a Rocker, Always a Rocker, where Perry was joined by drummer Joe Pet, singer Cowboy Mach Bell (who I interviewed at the 2022 Collectibles Extravaganza in 2022) and bassist Danny Hargrove. That was one of my favorite JPP albums and Danny deserves credit for his contribution to that album. Hargrove was a part of the line-up from 1982-1984. JPP doesn't get nearly enough credit, but they had some solid albums, Once a Rocker... being one of my faves.

In addition to JPP, he also played in Rage, The Wild Bunch, and The Screwballs. My thoughts go out to Mach Bell, Joe Pet, Joanne Codi, Hal Lebeau Boudreaux all of whom posted tributes on social media, and of course Mr. Perry.

BOBBY MOCH ⠆

after their first win of the season, you greet bobby with a bouquet of flowers themed after the school's colors— immediately giving him praise and compliments about their win today. you knew he had a rough past season with the last crew, now seeing him with a new crew he trusted, something he was so passionate about. you were excited for him!

when he asks where this all came from, you shrug the gesture off as if it was nothing. stating that the flowers just reminded you of him and just had to give them to him. a wide smile tugs on his lips as he accepts them, his hand caressing yours gently. he appreciated them more than you knew. pulling you close, he presses a kiss on the crown of your head. caring less about his damp uniform or the loud crowd around you, just you and him.

“thank you lovely, these are beautiful.”

DON HUME ⠆

he's absolutely speechless, it wasn't everyday a man would recieve flowers and don didn't think he would be one of them. his eyebrows jump to his hairline when he sees you at the entrance of the shell house with a bouquet of flowers in your hands. his breath hitches as he asks where you got them from and you reply kindly that they're for him, giving him a sweet smile which he returns. you wanted to congratulate him for making the team, it wasn't easy and all the effort he put in finally paid off. a faint blush falls on his cheeks as he takes them, a beautiful arrangement of daisy's and poppy's held by a piece of brown parchment. he takes your hand tugging you into a hug, squeezing you appreciatively. there weren’t enough words to describe how much he loved them,

"this bouquet might be just as pretty as you." now you blush, playfully slapping this arm as you continue to hold him close. he wanted to keep them alive for as long as he can and maybe get you a bouquet in return. later (few months) when he sneaks you into the dorms he see's the bouquet in a glass still thriving well, making your heart swell.

JOE RANTZ ⠆

he's gotten several bouquets from several girls after winning gold in the olympics. he's received a many of gifts from different people but none of them felt as special as yours. when he saw you for the first time since their win in germany, you had planned to go out on a date to celebrate so when he comes to pick you up with his own bouquet in hand. imagine his surprise and delight when he sees you walk out of the building with your own bouquet in hand. he lets out a soft laugh in disbelief watching as you. a proud smile on your lips, almost skipping towards him.

"ever so original rantz?" you jokingly say, fiddling with the fabric of your dress. holding the flowers to him— they're almost identical to his except, he has your favorite flower in the bunch making your heart swell.

"i didn't know you were gonna get me flowers." he replies, ever so charming smile gracing his lips. you tell him you wanted to surprise him— a token of your appreciation for all that he's done, all the hard work he and all the other boys put in. he thanks you greatly, exchanging your bouquets. he presses a sweet, chaste kiss on your lips before interlocking hands and walking to your date destination.

GEORGE HUNT ⠆

george didn't really take mind to trivial things of interest like that, what his favorite flower was but he made a great deal to what yours were and he never missed the chance to give you flowers when he could— after any occasion he would give them to you. if you passed your exam or got into a fight, he'd get flowers to make it up to you. he didn't really expect to get his own flowers, as it really wasn't a thing.

so one day when practice was particularly grueling and draining, the last thing your boyfriend had expected was seeing you; with a small bouquet of flowers in your hands waiting outside the crews dorm. you were speaking with roger, keeping you company. "who are those for?" george announces himself, now standing between the two of you. you chuckle bidding roger goodbye as he leaves, now alone with your boyfriend— a timid smile forming.

"pretty flowers for a pretty boy." you proclaimed, holding out the bouquet to him. he huffs a laugh taking them carefully, admiring them. he raises a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, cradling your cheek— caressing it gently.

"these a perfect darling, just like you."

CHUCK DAY ⠆

“a new admirer giving you flowers? giving me a run for my money?” chuck eyes the bouquet in your hands, noticing that there was none of your favorite flowers in them— what kind of admirer were they? you let out a soft giggle that sounds like music to his ears. he won't lie, a slight pang of jealousy hits him at the thought of another man giving you flowers but he'd ask you another day.

"no silly, they're for you." you reply, standing from the bench to give them to him. he lets out a small breath of relief, practically melting at the gesture. he takes a hand that was stuffed in his pocket to take the flowers from you, eyeing them carefully. you tell him that some of the flowers had meaning— like the red tulips and daisy's meaning love. his gaze softens as you continue to explain, a loving smile gracing his lips as he admires your face and the bouquet. lovingly, he plucks a flower from the bouquet and tucks it behind your ear

"you're so sweet you know that." his hand running down your arm, grasping your hand gently rubbing your knuckles. you almost swoon— tilting your head in admiration "well you deserve the best, i hope you know." he knows, with you around it's hard to forget.

Still sad we never got a glimpse of Luke's bedroom.

We never got to see his bedroom walls, which are plastered with posters that all sport similar grim faces and wild hairstyles that are 90s punk bands.

We never got to see the Disney-themed wallpaper that's hidden underneath those posters. (Look closely, and you can catch a glimpse of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy waving cheerfully - right next to Billy Joe Armstrong, who looks extra grumpy.)

We never got to see his desk and shelves that are cramped with knickknacks - guitar picks, chewed-up pencil stumps, music magazines, tapes, crumpled-up sheets of paper with discarded lines. There's also a Care Bear sitting on his nightstand. Mysteriously, there's no evidence of school books, though. There's a tiny TV with a built-in VHS recorder, a Sega Mark III, and several stacks of VHS tapes that include a surprising number of Disney animated movies. (I am convinced that 11yo Luke loved Oliver and Company when it came out in 1988. 'Why should I worry' is such a Luke song. Sue me! )

There's a papier-mache solar system he made for his elementary school's science fair (it actually earned him a ribbon), an empty hamster cage (Reggie was so jealous ... and extremely heartbroken when Kurt died), and in one corner sits Luke's very first guitar. He got it when he was 8yo because that summer, he couldn't attend summer camp because he had chickenpox.

We also never got to see that Luke's bedroom hadn't changed in the past 26 years because his parents never had the strength to clear it out. They don't want to say farewell to their son.

PS: Something changed in 2020, though. As if by magic, the Care Bear just disappeared. Weirdly, its disappearance coincided with a Molina family movie night during which they watched the first 3 Toy Story movies.)

Questions for tgm and tg '86 people:

So I'm looking into stuff for my fic and I realized that many of you have your own hcs or research that answers some pretty important aspects of the characters and timelines. ANYWAY, I just wanted to ask if anyone would be willing to some of their own ideas for these areas bc I know I am definitely NOT the most informed or researched on this film (feel free to reblog, reply, or dm me with answers if you'd like)!

When is tgm set? Like the whole mission and stuff? Month and year?

This is sort of connected with the previous but, how many months were between the Darkstar Mach 10 and the mission? I can't seem to figure it out?

Any ideas for where Bradley went to school? I'm low-key lost on the whole USNA-flight school thing so maybe one of you has a better grasp on it?

How old is everyone? Like, I can't figure out the daggers' ages... (could be bc I have no idea when the mission is set)

Who is JOE?

The date on the Icemav mission- May 12th, 1986? That accurate?

What do the classes consist of? Like, how are they studying for two weeks? Hops are like the only thing I can think of. Also, how does the teaching go for flight school and what do pilots do when not actively flying on deployments?

Some questions on the tg '86:

How did mav only teach for 2 months?

When is the original movie set? (why don't I know the dates of anything?!)

Where tf is an Officer's club? Like they don't exist anymore??

How do assignments and living situations work at Top Gun? I am so ridiculously lost in this, like to Mav and Goose live together? Or... what?

Where did Carole and Bradley stay when visiting? I could be dumb for this question but I have literally no idea.

How do points work at Top Gun? Is that accurate at all?

What exactly does Charlie do? Like why is she there of all people and has Top Gun ever had a civilian instructor before her? Is that accurate to real life Top Gun?

I would literally die for all of the female characters. Will Sharpe of White Lotus fame is in this. Need I say more.

The OA (2016-2019) created by Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij. You know when you are watching a show thinking “WTF is happening?” the entire time, this is that show. It’s so good!

Succession (2018 - 2023) bc ofc

The Lazarus Project (2022-) created Joe Barton. Joe Barton strikes again. Sometimes a man hurts every woman who enters his life bc his true soulmate is a man. But make it about time loops.

Halfworlds (2016-) created by HBO Asia. My guilty pleasure of guilty pleasure show. please don’t watch it, its utter shite, and yet it lives rent free in my mind. The answer to the question that no one asked “What if twilight/the mortal instruments or any other dumb YA book was set in SEAsia”
