This one was a long time coming, updates to The Chamaeleon Three! It was a difficult and delicate balance to strike with editing each of these, making sure their concepts and symbol integration were strengthened while streamlining a few things as well.

Lepus’s palette and design accents are very similar to Centaurus’s right now, as I plan to overhaul Rus’s colour palette with his own tweaks later. Between the two I think it fits Lepus a bit more.

I was already happy with Lynx’s prior pose so most of that was copied over here, and overall his tweaks are slightly more subtle compared to the others.

It was just a matter of cutting back on a few things to balance the level of detail and colour placement, which was easier said than done! Chamaeleon especially, I didn’t want her to lose her neon flare when trying to simplify parts of her design, so I had to take a long break after looping back on myself too many times. I’m not sure why it didn’t occur to me earlier to combine the concept of the mottled skin of a chameleon with spray paint splatter for her, but better late than never I guess! I wanted it to be more obvious that she’s a tagger without having to rely on her holding her spray gun or paint cans all the time.

I’m not sure who got the biggest glowup between them, but I’m super happy with all three, especially the improvements in the posing and overall anatomy/structure. This was quite a few months in the making, but it’s nice to see it complete now :) ---------- The constellation symbols for Chamaeleon, Lynx, and Lepus were originally designed by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain

I kinda want a second season of Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race. And they acknowledge the passing of time with one of the team being Junior and his university roomate. Junior mentioning that he wanted to it with his dad again but Dwayne Sr. hurt is back and can’t do it again. And his roomate talked him into doing it together. Also the roomate is this macho jock on the outside but is a softie on the inside

Also bring back the Goths with their bunny Loki VI since Rabbits don’t live that long

Soooooo basically this character appeared at the very end of a dream I had last week, with her colour scheme and general design and everything, so when I woke up I was like “…well guess she exists now” and set out to draw her reference sheet xD I honestly don’t think I would have thought to use this specific colour scheme right away if I was designing her normally, especially with the grey and pale yellow being prominent, so I got a freebie this time I guess!

This is Charlotte, whom I’ve decided to make Nahra's rival and later girlfriend. Her design ended up with a lot of similarities to Nahra’s, but I actually really that in this case, where instead of them being opposites as rivals, they’re rivals because they share more similarities than either of them realize at first. They do have opposing traits via their powers though (fire tiger vs. ice bunny)

Unlike Nahra, who reverts back to human form when she runs out of energy at full power, Charlotte instead reverts to her small bunny form, often leaving her more vulnerable as a result. If she cannot regain enough energy to change back to human, she can be stuck as a bunny for hours or even days. She is thoroughly embarrassed any time it happens and thus is extremely dedicated to keeping it a secret. Luckily, Charlotte is already used to keeping a cool head and not revealing much about herself as it is, preferring to trust her own instinct than anyone else.

Some say it is a ghost of the past, the golden rabbit spotted in the hallways looking like the old models from decades ago. It raises a hand, pressing a finger to its muzzle to mimic the action of requesting silence. Then, it seems to pull out a plush rabbit from nowhere -- the same golden fur as it has -- before offering it out.

Katie caught sight of the rabbit from the daycare theater: all the kids that were there had been ushered to the space form the play structures after one of the kids snuck his candy past Mr. Sun, ate most of it and, well... made a colorful mess once his stomach hurt.

Although it was painted out to be some sort of special trip for an Easter movie special, Katie still got bored of sitting around in one place. So, of course, she snuck away from the large majority of the other kids while everyone else was watching, clutching her Glamrock Bonnie stuffie protectively by the neck.

It was there, down one of the bright, blue corridors, that she saw the yellow rabbit. It reminded her of Bonnie, was he new? Maybe he was supposed to be some kind of cousin to the electric blue bassist. The child can't help but step closer at the offer of the new toy- it wouldn't replace her beloved Bonnie stuffie, but she loved stuffies, bunnies were her favorite fuzzy animal.

It’s Nice to be Needed

Let’s get the list started: Peanut, Precious, White Paws, Bootsie, Digger, Custis Lee, Bedivere, Ranger, Summer, Bunny Bun I, Bunny Bun II, Gussie, Simon, King Sparky, Duke, Chunk, Ginger, Lil’ Bit, Katie Scarlet, Cowboy Jack. I’ve owned twenty pets over my lifetime; most have been dogs, a few rabbits and a couple of goats. There have been no cats …none, the wife is allergic. Looking back, there might have been six years where I’ve not had animal companions in my family.

I’ve written on the personal feelings and reliance I have had with various of my herd members and the emotional good they provide. A positive existence could not be had without them …I’ma testify. Since leaving the teaching field, Chunk, King Sparky, Cowboy Jack and Scarlet have helped me endure the transition and loss associated with retiring; though the decision was right, it left me with a vacuum that those guys could only fill. Companionship, belonging, and especially needing and being needed were in short supply when I hung up the chalk and grade book.

Being alone quickly becomes being lonely for me; I ain’t built that way. Through thirty years of dedicated work to make a real difference in the lives of young people, being needed by the thousands of students was just as indispensable as what I tried to provide for my kids. Most young people never realize how much they mean to their teachers …and, you do. For a good part of my life, my self esteem was predicated on my interactions with the squirreliest part of our population. Why for god’s sake would I do that, you must be asking? A calling? A devotion? Yes, all that and the genuine nature of the feelings of children when they let you know they appreciate you, …they need you.

Dogs and children; but what about the billions of the adult population? Meh. It has been my personal experience that too many “grown ups” are unreliable, ambivalent at best about how they make people feel, indifferent to keeping their word and dismissive of people unless they can help them. Damn. Quite a condemnation by el professor. I reiterate: not everyone at all …just the negative experiences from an empathetic person. How’d I survive that? I had doggies.

I know how much I need my herd of canine companions to weather life’s storms; but how much do they need me? It’s nice to be needed …we all need to feel important to ..something. So, how do I know? Lately, I’ve examined this issue by researching various views on the subject from various sources …very interesting stuff. Most of the sources agreed on several types of observed behaviors, if your pup shows these to you, then you got yourself a dog buddy.

First the obvious: the dogs are excited to see you and put you second only to the dinner bowl. Your dog gives you presents …not Scarlet, too much the princess. Your dog likes to sleep with you …ah yes, snuggle and cuddle. Your dog will lean into you, this is the Cowboy Jack special. Your dog looks at you with loving eyes …they avoid eye contact with strangers, but if he looks at you and doesn’t turn away, all goodness. Your dog does not care about your appearance; thank goodness. Your dog follows you everywhere, and I mean everywhere. They are my shadows; my boon companions. Your dog likes to lay on your clothes. They love to be around your scent and your presence. Finally, they trust and love you so much, they will sleep with their back towards you.* You …give the dog peace. What an indication of good character.

They need me, me…they need me. No human will act in the fashion with such consistency. No dog will feign friendship then ignore you; it’s simply not in the dog’s psyche. Often, when looking at retiring and how to do it successfully, I’ve discussed the need to keep strong social interactions. Whether you’re at the local cigar lounge, golf course, the local pub or the gym, never just fade away be in contact with genuine friends who enjoy you. If that’s not available, might I suggest a dog?
