First real appearance of Neutro the Ultra-Dog
Tumblr media
He's not from Earth 3 though and he is never named as Neutro, he is most certainly Ultra-Dog. Appearing in Dog Days Of Summer (2022) amongst a group of alternate universe Krypto's he is from Earth 43. This is the Earth full of Vampires and from his friends we can assume he is one too. We know here's an ultra dog not only because of his collar but because of his owner being the only of her Ultraman in the entire Multiverse.

Well...
For fanfic reasons, I need to know more about dog breeds that are a) physically  active b) very affectionate/clingy to their owner and c) mostly white is an option for the dog’s coat.
I’ve got a few breeds in mind already. But if you want to rave about a dog breed that is physically active and really affectionate towards their owner that you don’t think gets enough love, here’s your excuse.
Links also preferably but as long I got the name, I can research on my own if you just want to rave. The only criteria is what I listed above.
Who am I kidding, I love animals. You can rave about your dog anyway. Just let me know if they don’t match the criteria above.
And if someone has the link to the person who wanted/wants Jon to have a (Emotional support) dog, please let me know who they were so I can blame credit them for this. This is in my head now.

Was Krypto Jor-El's dog? Or did their family have another pet?
Because think about it. Thanks to Cujo, we KNOW animals with unfinished business or strong attachments stay behind. We ALSO know from nigh COUNTLESS videos on the internet that pets get REALLY attached to pregnant moms and by extention, the new pack members.
Krpton was an Alien planet. Just because SOME of the animals there looked similar to earth animals, doesn't mean ALL of them do. Nor does it mean they ONLY domesticated dog like creatures or cat like creatures. They could have anything from vaguely bear-like to fox-ish to small moose but with more teeth.
It was a completely different ecology.
And Jor-El? Him and his wife had a CHOICE to make. They had A pod. Singular. Tiny. Not a ship, not an escape pod, not even a refurbished shipping container. Just a pod with life support and all the information about Krypton they could fit. A guidance system that, gods willing, would see their son to a safe and sympathetic planet to be raised by kind people.
THEY couldn't even fit.
How in the gods name would a large pet? Even a mid sized pet. Let us assume, for this prompt, that being scientists of high position? Pays or allocates pretty well. They have the room. The resources. When they got married, Jor-El's wife REALLY wanted a cub or pup or what have you, of some large-ish animal breed.
The equivalent of an earth mastiff dog. Just an Absolute UNIT. Used to be gaurds and working beasts, now more athletic pets then anything. Known to be great protecters of Their People.
And well... Jor-El WAS already starting to notice some things that were making him Less Than Popular... probably nothing (he had naively hoped, at the time.) But better to have a Just In Case. Sure, honey. Let's get one!
And they LOVED Snookums.
Snookums ADORED them AND the baby! Kal-El basically NEVER left Snookums sight. He slept beneath Kal's crib. Followed them everywhere they went, when they were holding Kal. Planted himself like Kal's Sworn Protector as the baby drooled all over his fur. It was the cutest thing EVER.
But then?
No. Dear Gods No. Please... Please let him be wrong!
He's not. He never is. He is too careful with his calculations. To the point of near paranoia. Maybe they can stop it. If they DO something. Act IMMEDIATELY...
But...
Well, we all now how that story ends. Two people, standing on a launch pad, tears streaming down their smiling faces, trying to memorize the last moment they'll ever see their son. Praying this will be ENOUGH.
That they aren't trading one terrible death for another.
Watching their son disappear into the sky. Flying home as the ground groan as shakes, trees toppling and people screaming. Panicking. Dying pointless deaths that could have been stopped.
Walking into the home that should have been where they spent their whole live. Where, in a way, they WILL.
Knowing they won't grow old.
Sitting on the floor with their confused, frantic, pet as fire starts to light up the horizon. As the ground shakes violently on last, terrible time. Knowing the lethal heat will hit them before their ears ever register the sound.
It's Over.
But! Where is Snookum's Baby Kal!?
They are scared, confused, and everything is LOUD AND RUMBLY. Very Bad. Don't like that. Their ADULTS come back home. BUT NOT THEIR BABY. Where is Baby Kal?! Snookums is a GOOD Boy and a GREAT Protector. It is in his blood.
Something BAD is happening.
Has? Happened?
Everything is GREEN.
But that does not MATTER. Snookums can not REST. Can not stay here! They must Sniff and search and hunt! Look for Kal! Who is SMALL and needs to be protected! What if he is HURT? How will he SLEEP!? With no Snookums to cuddle for nap time!?
But the universe is large. And there is no smell in space. (Well, there ARE. But they are Stinky Gasses and those do not help Snookums.) So it takes lots and lots of time. Until! He meets a glowing blue dog!
A hopeful corgi? What is a corgi? Irrelevant! The hopeful one knows of Snookums' Kal! Oh, thank you small friend! You indeed DO give hope! We shall go at once and Kal shall be safe and with family once more!
Meanwhile? Danny? Wakes up to a sticky note on his forehead from Clockwork. "Bring Cujo with you to meet the Justic League"? What? WHY? He loves the pup, but Cujo has never behaved himself in a formal setting ONCE in his doggy LIFE. Danny is trying to make a good first impression!
But... Clockwork doesn't Post-It lightly...
Guess he's breaking out the doggy bow ties. Great. Wonder what THIS is about...
Four and a half hours later? Watching Cujo playfully wrestle with the ghost of what HAS to be a Kryptonian... gonna saaaaay.... Bear-fox? Which nearly TACKLED Superman, freaked the ENTIRE Justice League out, and nearly got him STABBED by Etrigon. Yeah. That was a good call.
Congratulations on your new ghost pet, Superman. No, he's not leaving. It just kinda happens sometimes. It's how Danny got Cujo. Wanna do pet playdates?

Ko-fi thank-you sentences for Flamyangelwings; Kara gets to Earth on time and the Kents get a two-for-one special on free kids.
Ma and Pa store the wreckages of both of their ships in a building that Kara thinks is a barn and cover them with thick, heavy fabric. She takes the crystals out of the ships first, obviously. The ships are little more than scrap now, but they’ll need the crystals one day.
Not yet, but . . . one day.
She and Kal both wear alien clothes and eat alien food and she does her alien work, and he plays with his alien toys, and Ma and Pa . . . Ma and Pa fuss, Kara can’t help feeling.
Sometimes other aliens visit, or they go into Smoll-Veel for supplies or to eat at the restaurants or visit places Kara doesn’t always understand the purpose of. There’s a park, and a shop for textiles, and a . . . library, she thinks? Ma and Pa don’t exchange money for the things they take from it, anyway; just scan a card, and then bring them back later. Kara thinks they’re some sort of . . . paper records, from what she’s gathered–sheets upon sheets of paper, all bound together on one side. Some of them are slimmer and have pictures, and Ma and Pa like to take turns reading those to Kal. Some of them are thicker and don’t have pictures, or at least not many, and those they either read in silence or read to each other or even Kara.
She doesn’t understand them, obviously, but . . . it’s . . . nice, she thinks.
She actually thinks they might be stories, not just records. Especially the ones with pictures in them.
So it’s very nice, that Ma and Pa are sharing those with them. Very . . . very kind.
In the settlement, Ma and Pa introduce Kara and Kal by slightly different names, and everyone calls them Mar-Tha and Jona-Than, not Ma and Pa. Kara thinks maybe this planet has private names on top of their public ones, though she’s not actually certain.
They call her “Ka-Lair” and call Kal “Ka-Lum” to the other aliens, though they pronounce them a little oddly–“Claire” and “Callum”, more like. Or that’s as close as Kara can get, anyway. Sometimes they say “Ka-Lair Zo-El Kent” and “Ka-Lum El-Ot Kent”–Kara’s not sure why Kal gets the Laborer title attached to his name too, but supposes it must be because children on this planet are associated with their guardian’s guild until they’re old enough to choose their own–though again, the pronunciation is a little odd. More like . . . “Claire Zoelle Kent” and “Callum Elliot Kent”, she thinks.
Most of the other aliens in Smoll-Veel are kind, but none of them are as kind as Ma and Pa. Ma and Pa are . . . they’re so kind. Ma teaches Kara how to make her “pye”, and Pa teaches her how to play a catching game with a small white ball and a peculiar webbed glove and sometimes a stick to hit the ball with, and they both teach her how to work on their little farm and help her take care of Kal. They’ve even gotten him his own little bed, with tall fenced-in sides so he can’t roll or climb out of it, and set it up in a bedroom for him and her to stay in together, with a closet full of clothes for them both and a box of toys for Kal and a shelf of thin paper records with pretty pictures inside of them that they read to him from every night after “supper”.
She thinks Ma is female and Pa is male, now, and is mostly certain that they’re either mated or married or whatever this planet does, not related or just friends. Definitely not just coworkers, either way. They still call Kal’s toy dog “Krippo” instead of “Krypto”, but given Kara’s problems getting her own tongue around their language’s words, she’s not going to hold it against them. Kal understands what they mean when they say it, so that’s all that matters.
She feels vulnerable and uncomfortable whenever they’re off the farm, and sometimes even on it, but . . . but Ma and Pa are so kind, and it’s hard to feel uncomfortable with them.
Vulnerable, maybe, but not quite in the same way as she does out in Smoll-Veel.

My take on the goodest boy: Krypto, the Super Alien Doggo
Tumblr media
Originally a Kryptonian Warhound, Krypto was created in a lab by Jor-El and Lara. They changed his DNA to make him less agressive than the other member of his species and give him the ability to mimic other creatures DNA, in hope of being able to help Krypton's ecosystem. He was supposed to be the first of many creatures like him but Lara and Jor-El never had time to make more. He's also a hermaphrodite.
Thanks to that, Krypto can take the form of any dog he sees at least once but always keeping his original colors. He likes to change his appearance depending on the person he spends time with. Since his arrival on Earth, he never took his original form again.
This is only a few examples of his many forms :

PROFESSION: ASSISTANT REPORTER
YEAR: 1948
PLACE: METROPOLIS (METROPOLIS COUNTY, NEW YORK)

-Farmgirl, born Kansas 1918. No sisters nor brothers.
-Nicest girl in the office but very unfunny.
-Disappears without reason very often.
-Lives alone in a little flat and has a golden retriever dog called Krypto.
-Daddy issues. Her father didn't let her pursue a career as ballet dancer or swimmer (he didn't want her to take advantage of her powers) and died when she was 18.
-Former nurse during the war in the Pacific Ocean and in the Philippines.
-Loves children and dogs
-Tomboyish trails. Not quite elegant.
-Music-Hall fan, Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart fan
-Favorite books: Scarlet Pimpernel adventures, Jane Austen, Upton Sinclair and Virginia Wolf, somewhat eclectic.
-Amateur writer of children's stories, with characters such as DeeDog and the Komfy Dragon.
-She greatly admires her boss, Perry Weiss. A 1940s very liberal Republican style journalist, chief editor of the Daily Planet. She despises her deputy boss Cat Grant.
-Ambiguous relationship with her other boss Louis Lane. Clara has a good friendship with Louis and hides that she is very much in love with him. At the same time, she competes a lot with Mr. Lane and is annoyed by his political ideas and his paternalism.
-Strange friendship with young millionaire Bruce Wayne, something that is very surprising for the people in the Daily Planet newsroom.
-Always good scoops but never appears in the front line and too stubborn and independent to grow fast in the newspaper.
-Progressive quaker like her fathers.
-Civil rights supporter.
-Dislikes General McArthur, dislikes even more Lex Luthor
-Loves Eleanor Roosevelt but also Governor Dewey.
-Hates guns
-Supports unions, splits ticket between Metropolis Liberal Party and the two main parties. Politicians must be kind.

SUPERHEROINE LIFE
-Superpowers: Flight, Super-Strength, Super-Speed, X-Ray Vision, Heat Vision, Enhanced Vision, Super-Hearing, Super-Breath, Freeze-Breath, High Invulnerability, Super-Stamina
-Can fly to a Mach 100 speed.
-Acts as Superwoman since October 1945.
-Defeated Zod invasion in July1946.
-Initial bad relationship with Batman but now close friends and allies. Together with Flash they conform the Justice League.
-Didn't act as Superwoman during the World War II because she was afraid of her powers. After the discovery of the Holocaust and the atomic bombs she decided to step in and showed herself to the world on autumn 1945.
-Worst enemy: Lex Luthor, heir of Nikola Tesla, rocket engineer & CEO of TELCORP (Tesla-Luthor Co.)
-Deeply in love with Louis Lane, who strongly rejects the superheroine.
-She hides her supersuit and cape under her normal clothes. The material is extraordinarily thin, flexible and resistant, and very easy to wear under normal clothing. Whenever someone needs Superwoman, she just needs to find an inconspicuous place, rip her shirt, unfold her cape and fly away at full speed.
-Widely admired.

FAMILY & ORIGINS
The El family & Krypton
Krypton was a decadent civilization located on a moon near a large gaseous planet in the Orion belt, next to a green sun. In the past they had visited Earth and other planets expanding civilization, but their penchant for slavery, war, resource extraction and violence caused many of these projects to fail. Even in 10,500 BC the Kryptonians almost caused the terraforming of the Earth, melting the poles and destroying Atlantis and other civilizations, causing among other things the end of the Ice Age. Nearly 99% of humanity perished during that Kryptonian attack.
Over the centuries the Kryptonians lost the fuel necessary to travel across space and ended up confined to their planet, dedicated to warfare, genetic engineering-creating clones whose organs they needed to extend their lives-to pleasure and to exploiting the subsoil of their planet. The Kryptonians also established a dictatorship with a caste system based on genetic engineering and prohibited natural reproduction.
Tumblr media
Jor-El and Lara were a couple of scientists critical of the system and supporters of the abolition of the caste system. They also fought against genetic engineering, violent repression, and the permanent destruction of the ecosystem. After a series of terrible earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and gas outbursts, it became clear that Krypton's core was collapsing, due to the energetic drilling and magnetic energy used in Krypton's industry. The Planet was doomed but the ruling caste ignored it. Jor-El and Lara had a daughter, Kala-El in a natural way against all the rules of Krypton. Lara managed to manufacture a small ship capable of making a space jump to save her daughter from the end of Krypton. General Zod stole her design and managed to build a larger fleet of ships but Jor-El managed to sabotage them and send the fleet to the Phantom Zone, a black hole near Krypton.
Lara decided to send Kala to Earth, confident that the culture of this planet was much more hopeful and kinder, and less prone to the mistakes of Krypton than other distant inhabited planets closer to them. Jor-El preferred to send her to New Genesis, another distant inhabited planet, because there Kala would receive less radiation and develop less extraordinary abilities that would allow her to live a normal life, but eventually Lara convinced him. During her journey to Earth and her growing period under a yellow sun, Kala would develop wonderful powers and could live a long life in the service of mankind, rehabilitating Krypton's legacy.
Within hours of Kala's birth, she was placed in the small ship, accompanied by the robot guide Kelex, whose memory was imprinted with the consciousness of Jor-El and Lara, as well as nearly all of Krypton's cultural heritage. They included several Kryptonian artifacts inside, such as a nearly indestructible ceremonial female ancestral caped suit with the crest of the House of El on its chest.
The ship was launched just hours before Krypton's demise and travelled through space for thirty years...

Joe&Martha Kent, Kansas life
Joe and Martha Kent were a Quaker farming couple whose farm was struck by the pod carrying Kala-El the 28th of February of 1918. Although owners of substantial property they were a very humble, cooperative, austere, devout, and civil rights-minded people. Martha Kent was a descendant of Kansas abolitionist guerrilla fighter John Brown. They both raised Clara very lovingly and unwilling to ask too many questions about the baby's origin. Clara was a very sickly child as her body did not adapt to the Earth. She was an affectionate and obedient girl and devoured books. The Kent family were avowed supporters of the New Deal and Joe Kent was a member of the local farmers union.
With puberty Clara developed very fast, and her superpowers began to appear. She soon began to excel in swimming and ballet, while still questioning her origins, but Joe forbade her to pursue a professional career to prevent her from taking advantage of her powers, and moreover he forbade her to use her superpowers to help others, fearful of humanity's reaction and wary of savior messiahs in the era of interwar dictators.
Clara rebelled against her father but eventually gave in, fearful of her own abilities and understanding her parents' position. During these years, Clara didn't fit in very well, but she had two best friends, Pete Ross, with whom she was secretly in love, and Lana Lang. Pete didn't know about her superpowers, but Lana did. In 1936 Joe Kent died of a heart attack, devastating her daughter. Clara was unable to go to college after her father's death and worked as a teacher and nurse's aide in Smallville. Her engagement to Pete Ross, her teenage sweetheart failed in 1939 when she revealed her powers to Pete and he panicked, although he later promised to keep the secret. In those times of sadness, Kelex, the Kryptonian robot, was activated, explaining to Clara her true origins, which filled her with confusion.
Between 1939 and 1941 Clara lived in Canada and Alaska searching for the Fortress of Solitude, a strange place Kelex was pointing, but with the outbreak of World War II she decided to enlist as a nurse in the Pacific, refusing to use her powers except to help the wounded, fearing to cause more harm than good. In late 1944, the hospital ship on which he was traveling, the USS Shuster, was torpedoed by the Japanese. Clara jumped into the water and managed to keep the ship afloat with her super strength until she managed to beach it. No one understood how miraculously the ship had stayed afloat and even levitated. The incident was kept secret. Clara got a permit to return home and she revisited Alaska where she found the Fortress of Solitude with the help of Kelex. There she was able to better understand her origins and began to train her superpowers.
After learning about the Holocaust first and the atomic bombs later, Clara decided to become Superwoman and help others with her superpowers dressed in the ceremonial Kryptonian costume of her ancestors. Her mother Martha supported her decision. She relocated to Metropolis, where in September 1945 she was hired as an assistant reporter by Major Louis Lane, who had just returned from Europe.

On October 1, 1945, Superwoman unveiled herself to the world and caused a huge sensation. The world was changed forever. Superwoman introduced herself to the newly formed United Nations, explaining her origins and her desire to help others and to stay out of political conflicts except to protect civilians.
Clara Kent began her double life as a journalist and as Superwoman. In July 1946, she defeated the invasion of General Zod and the survivors of Krypton. She also had to face other enemies such as the Intergang - an alliance of all organized crime in Metropolis and Gotham, Atomic Skull - an ex-Nazi agent with terrifying technology, Lex Luthor who began to develop his hatred and paranoia towards the superheroine, and his creations such as Metallo.

DAILY PLANET CHARACTERS
Perry Weiss, a major shareholder and editor in chief of the Daily Planet. Born in Odessa in 1886. Jewish immigrant from humble origins who became a skilled journalist and founded the Daily Planet as a tool of the liberal wing of the Metropolis Republican Party to unseat the city bosses of the time. Still a staunch liberal, he supported Roosevelt in 1932 and 1936, is an ally of Mayor LaGuardia. He won the Pulitzer Prize in the 1920s for defending the innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti. Friend and ally of Louis Lane's father. He is very demanding with his employees but is very fond of Clara. He admires and defends Superwoman despite Louis Lane's distrust. Best friend of Cat Grant.
Cat Grant, Co-chair of Perry Weiss, Pulitzer winner, closeted lesbian, and Ayn Rand Fan. Born 1901, she comes from a fine family of Metropolis Knickerbockers. She is like Louis the least liberal element of the newspaper. To protect herself she married a very old friend of her father who helped her lead a double life. For twenty years she lived with a painter named Margaret Ivy. Considered the best writer of the Daily Planet, in addition to being a journalist she has published two novels. Very elegant and popular in intellectual circles. She is tremendously authoritarian. She mistreats Clara a lot because she does not respect her authority and because of her different political ideas, but as Clara grows as a journalist and Cat Grant suspects that she is Superwoman, she will protect her and push her forward without Clara knowing it. Best friend of Perry Weiss
Jimmy Olsen and Lucy Weiss, best friends of Clara.
Jimmy is a junior urban photographer. He comes from a town in Massachusetts. He is 7 years younger than Clara. He is a party animal, friendly, generous, and somewhat naive. Yet he is a skilled photographer who has been able to capture the worst of the night and day of Metropolis. Miraculously he always gets the best pictures of Superwoman (Clara helps him a little). Very democratic and complains about working for a newspaper that is too conservative for his taste. Adores Clara whom he treats as his big sister. It doesn't even cross his mind that she is Superwoman. Jimmy thinks that Louis is a snob and a bigot.
Lucy is a senior political photographer and the only woman on photo reporting on the Daily Planet who works outside the fashion department. She is the eldest daughter of Perry Weiss. She is an intrepid photojournalist who gets overseas passes and has been to several military conflicts. A loyal friend of Clara, and a very serious and professional woman. She is suspicious of Clara's double identity but would never say anything. She is the same age as Clara and a lover of jazz and the more alternative circuits of Metropolis.

-Perry Weiss favorite reporter.
-Won the Pulitzer Prize in 1941, for his articles about the first defeat of the Intergang.
-First person to interview Superwoman.

-"a brilliant and kind man" for most of the Daily Planet staff, a "terrible asshole" for many others like Jimmy Olsen.
-Strongly rejects Superwoman and other heroes.

-He lives a bizarre love triangle with Clara Kent and Superwoman. Although he publicly rejects the superheroine, he also desires her and he and Superwoman have had moments of passion, which Louis feels guilty about because he is married and because of his religion. On the other hand, he is in love with Clara Kent as much as he rejects the figure of Superwoman. He deludes himself about the identity of both. A bit James Stewart in Vertigo, which destabilizes and infuriates Clara.

CURRENT AND PAST ENEMIES
Lex Luthor
Rocket engineer, CEO of TELCORP and Heir of Nikola Tesla. A Brilliant scientist who defines himself as a "radical humanist"...but in the early 30s supported closely fascism to stop "imperialism" and "usury" but later changed his mind and move closer to the USSR to fight "predatory western capitalism". Publicly, he is a tycoon and scientist loyal to the United States and works closely with the government. The world's greatest philanthropist. Loving father and husband. Hates Superwoman to death and believes she spells the end of humanity. Paranoid and ruthless but convinced that he does everything for the greater good.

General Zod & Faora
Political dissidents like the El on Krypton on the other hand believed that Krypton's only salvation lay in emigrating and invading, terraforming, and exterminating other planets. They almost succeeded in a coup d'état but after their failure they and their henchmen tried to flee by space jumping their ships, Jor-El managed to sabotage the launch and send them to the Phantom Zone. Over the years they managed to escape and arrived on Earth in 1946, shortly after Clara showed herself to the world as Superwoman. They tried to exterminate all humanity, but Superwoman and the armies of Earth managed to defeat them. Their invasion caused 5,000 human casualties but could have caused complete extermination. The experience was traumatic for Clara because she had to send Zod and Faora back to the Phantom Zone where they would surely die. Zod, Faora and their henchmen had not yet developed the full powers of a yellow sun like Earth's and so several of them were killed by human bombs and missiles. Their remains were stored by Russians and Americans. Superwoman managed to expel all Kryptonian technology and weaponry into space so that humans would not use it for warfare.
Doomsday
A truly near-indestructible abomination.
Perhaps from Krypton's past? Perhaps created by mistake by human scientists?

The Toyman
Winslow Schott, former entrepreneur, and inventor of the 1920s toy business who was ruined in the Great Depression by banks and various betrayals. After a crime spree he was imprisoned in 1933 but escaped from prison recently completely crazed and ready to take revenge on the whole city using his inventions.
Brainiac "The Eternal Traveller"
An android resulting from the abhorrent merger of a famous astronaut and artificial intelligence, which was used by the first civilization of Krypton to collect information from other worlds. It is more than 100,000 years old. With the passage of time, he revealed against the Kryptonians, became evil and phobic to any form of life that he considered imperfect or inferior. It caused the destruction of many cultures. He wanders through space visiting planets and analyzing life forms. He probably has no enthusiasm for humans, much less for a descendant of the House of El.

I have a very important character for the ask meme: Krypto. (Yappy earth dog or super pup, dealer’s choice)
YEAHHHH superpuppy for the moment but maybe ill go back and do earth krypto sometime too hehe
Headcanon A:  realistic
he's made kon get incredibly good at home repairs. the supertail wagging against the back door, the overenthusiastic game of fetch that ended up destroying the farmhouse ac unit, the fly buzzing around the room that krypto didn't like so he lasered it to death (and also lasered a hole straight through the wall, but hey. he got the fly. he's a good boy.)
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
at some point he gets it in his head that he needs to check in on the people kon loves regularly. somehow this turns into him deciding that after dinner every evening, he's gotta fly to gotham and take tim on a walk. as in, he'll show up, leash in mouth, shove the handle into tim's hand, and wait impatiently for tim to go to the door and put his shoes on so krypto can lead him down the street.
tim does not get a choice in this. tim is not taking krypto for a walk. krypto is taking tim for a walk. the one time tim refuses and says he's busy, krypto simply takes him for a fly instead! yay yippee wahoo!!!
tim agrees to go for a walk the next day.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
how many times do you think ma and pa woke up in the morning to find that krypto wasn't at home, only to go down and find him, curled up, muddy, and miserable, on kon's grave?
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
i ignore prime earth being like "krypto is the generic family pet for all supers". that is kon-el's emotional support pumby dog that clark gave to him years ago. kon is his favorite and the bias is VISIBLE.

Neal Adams' cover for Superman (vol. 1) #233 (January, 1971).
This was the beginning of editor Julius Schwartz's 15-year stint as Superman editor, and was to be the beginning of a new era for the Man of Steel.
In this issue an experiment seeking to use kryptonite as an energy source goes awry, resulting in an explosion that renders all kryptonite on Earth inert. Superman's greatest vulnerability is gone, making him seemingly unstoppable!
However, as the story progresses over the next several months, Superman's powers decrease until he's only 2/3 as super as he was before the explosion.
Schwartz, and new Superman writer Denny O'Neil, believed that Superman had become so powerful that he was no longer believable or relatable. Along with jettisoning much of the Silver Age lore (Krypto the Super-Dog and the other Super-Pets; the bottle city of Kandor and the Superman Emergency Squad; the Superman robots; The Phantom Zone; etc) they thought that by reducing Superman's abilities readers would find him more interesting, as he would have to struggle more to defeat villains and solve problems.
(Interestingly, Supergirl's powers were not reduced during this period, so she would have been more powerful than her older cousin. To my knowledge this was never addressed.)
The new concept only lasted nine issues. By Superman #243 (issue #239 was a giant all-reprint issue) O'Neil was gone as writer, and Superman was back to full power with no mention of what had gone before. The only changes that stayed from the previous storyline was Clark Kent being a TV news reporter instead of a newspaper reporter, and kryptonite still being harmless.
Other writers eventually brought kryptonite back as a menace by explaining that new batches from space had fallen to Earth. Clark was promoted to anchorman at WGBS TV, but also allowed to do double duty as a reporter for the Daily Planet (which, conveniently, was housed in the same building as WGBS).
Krypto, Kandor, the Phantom Zone, and other Silver Age elements gradually made their way back as well into Superman's stories.
And that's the way it remained until Superman, and much of the DC Universe, was rebooted post-crisis On Infinite Earths.

Think they have a phantom zone projector in the Red Sun universe that we ever see, so we know Krypto never came from there.
I like the idea that Krypto the super dog is a propaganda retelling of Laika, where he's not actually a Kryptonian dog and he's only known as a super dog because Superman saved him from dying in space.

Ko-fi thank-you sentences for @primtheamazing, @beatrice-otter, @qwertynerd97, and LadyLeocadia, who all picked the same WIP; Kara gets to Earth on time and the Kents get a two-for-one special on free kids.
Ma and Pa take her and Kal to a quaint little brick building and lead them inside. It's full of things Kara can't identify, but also racks and racks of clothes and dishware and furniture. She's briefly bewildered by the place, unsure if it's just a very unusual tailor shop or . . . what, exactly. Then she realizes–Smoll-Veel is a Laborer settlement, so this is probably just a clothing shop. She's never been to one before–the House of El always uses tailors–but Laborers must wear through their clothes much faster and need replacements for those clothes much faster, so of course they wouldn't always have time to wait for a tailor, when they just need to get back to work. And Laborers' work clothes must be much plainer than most tailors would be interested in making anyway, really. No demonstration of skill or fashion or anything similar. Nothing to really interest a real Artisan.
Ma guides Kara through the oddly-arranged racks of clothing and starts taking different items off them, and Pa disappears somewhere else when Kara is distracted by a particularly soft and pretty dress that Ma holds up to her. It worries her for a moment, for no good reason. Like he's just vanished from the universe and won't ever come back; like he's just dust and ash and dead and gone–
Kara forces herself not to think about it and smiles at Ma, who smiles back. Kal burbles and tries to stick his whole fist in his mouth, and Ma laughs fondly at the sight. Kara wants to cry. Instead she presses a kiss to his hair and holds him just a tiny, tiny bit tighter. He giggles and smacks her in the face with his spit-sticky hand.
She needs to take care of him. Needs to protect him. Needs to keep him safe.
He's the only thing she has left to keep safe.
The only thing she has left at all, except for their smashed-up ships and the clothes she came here wearing and the blanket he's all wrapped up in.
Kara tries not to think too much, and smiles at another pretty dress as Ma holds it up too. Ma picks out a few more things–a skirt or two, a pair of pants made of the same sturdy blue material as the jacket Kara's wearing, some strange tops with very short sleeves–and it's all soft and unstructured and very peculiar-looking, to be honest, but it seems to please Ma to pick them out with her and also beggars really can't be choosers.
And Kara does think the dresses are pretty.
Pa comes back with his arms full of–toys, maybe? They look like toys. Kara blinks in confusion. Why is he . . .
Pa holds up one of the toys, a soft little thing that looks a bit like a dog and is even white and floppy-eared like Krypto was, and offers it to Kal. His little face lights up in unabashed delight as he reaches for it, and Kara nearly cries.
Kal squishes the toy in a hug and then starts chewing on one of those floppy ears. Kara nearly cries again.
Ma and Pa really are just that kind, she thinks. Feeding them and giving her clothes is already so much, but they didn't need to offer Kal a toy. That's . . .
They didn't need to do that.
Or any of this.
Ma makes an approving sound; Pa looks pleased. Kal coos happily at his toy.
Kara keeps not crying, but it's getting harder and harder to manage.
She can't possibly repay them for this. They must know that. How could she? She's not from this planet; she doesn't speak its language or know anything about it. She can try to be another "Kent" for them, maybe, but that's all she could possibly do: basic Laborer work, not even anything specialized. Certainly nothing with any real experience necessary to it.
And even if she did, it'd be more so she could take care of Kal than to repay them anyway, so . . .
She doesn't understand why they're being so kind.
Ma takes the pile of clothes and leads the way to a little row of curtained doors off to the side of the shop. Kara isn't sure, for a moment, but thinks–are they fitting rooms, maybe? Though there aren't any tailors in them, when she peeks into the one Ma is hanging up all those clothes in. She can only assume she's just supposed to try them on and see if they fit. Which seems like a time-consuming process, really, but is admittedly much less time-consuming than a tailor making a full wardrobe's worth of custom pieces from scratch.
Kara takes Kal into the fitting room with her and tries on the clothes while he plays with his new toy, and she can mostly breathe as long as she keeps an eye on him. She probably should've left him outside with Ma and Pa instead of having him sit on the floor in here while she goes through all the clothes one by one, but with the curtain drawn she wouldn't have been able to see him and then . . .
She exhales. Tries on another skirt. It's pretty. Soft and shapeless, but with interesting pleats in it and a bright blue and yellow pattern.
She thinks her mother would've liked it, and then tries not to think.
She's been trying not to think a lot, at this point.
Kal is so little. So small and defenseless and she's not even come of age, technically, she's only–
Well, no, Kara realizes. She must be sixteen by now. After the sleep-stasis in the ship on the way here . . .
She swallows. Reaches for another skirt to try on. It's pink.
She's sixteen, and her parents are dead.
She's sixteen and her parents have been dead.
And so are Kal’s, and she's the only thing he has in the universe.
Kal giggles. Baps her leg with his soft toy and makes a playful growling sound.
Kara buries her face in the skirt and sobs in silence, all hitched breaths and messy, painful tears.
She wants her mom.

In the far past, Kryptonians were a race that was enslaved and genetically modified by the more technologically advanced interplanetary invaders, the Coluans.
The Kryptonians fought and won their freedom and planet back. The tech left behind by the Coluans was used and improved on by the Kryptonians.
In one portion of their rich history, the Kryptonians themselves would go on to be planetary conquerors and settlers akin to Earth’s Roman empire.
In order to have a firm hold of their planet, Kryptonians introduced a mutagen into their DNA that would allow a member of their species to be able to reproduce with an alien sapient species.
The method by which to activate it would be for the Kryptonian to have had enough intercourse with a being that induces feelings akin to love (lust, respect, protectiveness, etc.).
Thus such people’s as the Daxamites came into being.
Later on, the Krypton’s leading government would become replaced by the Science guild. Eventually Krypton’s colonies would become independent civilizations.
Krypton eventually would become more and more closed off.
The mutagen, however, would continue to exist among the Kryptonian populace and at times be activated if only among the lower classes where traditional reproduction still continues as opposed to the Birthing Matrix among the upper echelons.
Lara Lor-Van, whose natural birth caused a scandal within the traditional House of Van, knew of the ancient mutagen that is dormant among Kryptonians.
Not wanting her son to be forever alone on a strange planet, she made sure to activate the gene so that Kal El would be able to father children with the Earthling he chooses.
More than a Earth decade later, a young Clark Kent had left Smallville to travel the world. In part, trying to find purpose again after losing his lover and best friend, Lex, to amnesia caused by an experiment on Krypton tech gone wrong. In another, fleeing from Lex’s father Lionel who was powerful enough to blackmail and threaten Clark to stay away from Lex.
In addition to his heart pain, he was losing his powers and was becoming weaker every day.
He had to rely more and more on Krypto, a dog who was mutated by the green meteorite of Smallville, & Lori Lemaris, a friend he made at the college he used to secretly visit Lex at.
It was only after he was examined by another friend (Immortal Man) he made on his travels that he found out what was happening.
Apparently, pregnant male Kryptonians would lose muscle mass and become more aggressive if they felt threatened. Instead of their stomach distending, their organs would rearrange for the growing baby. This was so that male Kryptonians would be unencumbered if they needed to flee from danger that their mate/family/allies would deal with. It would also discourage the pregnant male from engaging in stressful activities and focus on his well-being.
After an intense labor that eventually lead to Clark just cutting himself open, Conner Julian Kent was born. (Julian was from Lionel’s estranged brother Jules, a lawyer living in Smallville whom both boys loved and respected).
From then on, Clark swore to keep his child safe and to be a strong person Conner could look to as an example.
For that reason, Clark didn’t dare go back home until after Lionel died. In the meantime, he’d learn everything he could: about the world, humanity, & his and Conner’s heritage.
When he could finally return home, Clark decided to take the job offer he got from an editor at the Daily Planet. Because to do the most good, Metropolis, Delaware was the best place. Plus it was the city closest to Smallville aka “little Kansas”.
From there, he would be confronted by the so called philanthropist and man of tomorrow, Lex Luthor.
Having already grieved, Clark saw Luthor for what he really was: an immoral Machiavellian narcissist criminal who hated and looked down on humanity. Who would do anything and use anyone to get what he wanted: being the top of the food chain.
Clark was determined not only to stop him, but to never let him near Conner.
This began a war between a “meddling alien who is a threat to human progress” & “a man who could have done so much good if only he’d choose to do so”.
