“Mitchell!” you yelled, running after said fourteen year old boy. He was laughing while running away from you. “Give it back!”

“No!” he yelled back. He turned around, jogging backwards. “You have to come get it.”

“I’m trying, but you’re too fucking fast!”

He turned back around, running inside of the house, still laughing.

“MITCH!”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Sheriff said. “What the hell is going on here?”

“I’m gonna kill your oldest twin, that’s what’s going on!”

You felt two arms go around your middle, pulling you into them while you tried to get out of their grasp. “Mieczyslaw Stilinski, you better let me go so I can kill your brother!”

“No. No one is killing anyone,” Sheriff said. “Now, Mitch. Why is she wanting to murder you?”

The only thing Mitch could do was laugh while looking at you.

“Okay,” Sheriff said, turning to face you. “Y/N, why are you wanting to murder my son?”

“Because he has something of mine,” you said. “Something personal.”

“Which is?”

You pushed out of Stiles’ arms, hair hanging in front of your face with tears lining your eyes. “My mom’s necklace. I was sleeping and he took it off of me and is refusing to give it back.”

“It’s just a necklace,” Mitch said.

You walked towards the stairs that he was standing in front of, pushing past him while saying, “It’s not just a necklace.”

You went to Stiles’ room, where you sat on the bed, knees up to your chest, chin resting on them. A small knock on the door caused you to look up at the person responsible for the noise; Mitch.

“Go away.”

Instead of walking away, Mitch walked into his brother’s room towards you before reaching his hand out. “Here.”

You snatched the necklace from his hands, putting it back around your neck.

“What’s so special about that damn thing anyway?”

You scoffed. “Of all people, you should be the one to relate the most.”

He sat on the mattress, looking at you with sad eyes. “Wait. Your mom died?”

Nodding, your eyes lined with tears once again. You put your forehead on your knees, not wanting Mitch to see you sob. You felt the bed dip before your body was brought forward, a chin resting on the top of your head.

“I’m so sorry,” Mitch whispered. “I didn’t–”

“It’s fine. What matters is that you know now.”

Ever since that day, Mitch always defended you when someone asked about the necklace or made fun of the necklace. You were grateful.

another thing about the assistant angle is like. being there when bakugou reaches the hero top 40 and branches off with kirishima and sero and denki for their own agency. it's a bit of a mess bc they're barely twenty years old but—you're his only employee. he can barely afford to pay you and he doesn't even really know what you're supposed to do besides answer the phone and he's so emotionally unavailable but you're there, every single day. friendly with his friends. sometimes you bring lunch in for all of them and it's out of your own paycheck and it's not the best but you do it, for them. he lets you make the schedule for two weeks and you fuck it up so bad, but eventually you get it right and you try to be so fair—and that's hard to do, in the pro-hero world. there's nothing fair about a twenty year old man with trauma up to his ears risking his life every night because he doesn't know how to live with just himself, as just a man and not a hero, but goddamn it if you don't try to keep it fair, for every single one of them. you're one of his emergency contacts. you pick them up in the middle of the night when they're all the way across town, in another district police department bc that's where they caught the guy and where they have to turn him in. sometimes you bring their clothes or costumes home and wash them bc they don't get the chance. like it's everything.

So I wanna tell y'all about something very near and dear to my heart.

This is the Psyche asteroid, or, at least an artist's representation - we don't know what it actually looks like yet, but this is a fair enough guess. It's a roughly 200 mile wide asteroid in the asteroid belt, and it's made almost entirely out of metal. Its composition makes it unique; it’s the only large metallic body we know of in the entire solar system.

We think it might be the core of what used to be a planet.

When solar systems form, they start out as disks made of interstellar gas and dust, called protoplanetary disks. Here's a picture of HL Tauri, one of the best images of a protoplanetary disk we have.

That dust globs together into larger and larger pieces, and eventually forms hundreds of "planetesimals", which are rocky bodies about a kilometer across. Planetesimals had very erratic orbits compared to the modern planets - the dust of the protoplanetary disk caused friction and drag, which threw them off course.

They frequently collided with each other, and either broke apart or stuck together and grew even larger. Arrokoth is actually a leftover planetesimal, a time capsule from the early solar system, and we were able to visit it wayyy out in the Kuiper belt with the New Horizons probe!

Once planetesimals get to be about the size of the moon, we call them "protoplanets". Protoplanets were fundamentally different from their planetesimal siblings - we believe they were differentiated. When an object in space gets big enough, a combination of radioactive decay, impacts, and gravitational pressure causes them to heat up and melt. Denser materials like iron and nickel sink towards their centers, while the lighter materials rise to the surface. The differentiation process is why Earth's core is made of iron, while the surface is primarily rock.

While protoplanet orbits were much more stable than those of planetesimals, they still eventually collided with each other until everything settled into the planets we see today (though gas giants had a few extra steps - that's a different post!).

We think the Psyche asteroid was a protoplanet, well on its way to becoming a bona fide planet, when an impact struck it hard enough to strip away its rocky layers, leaving behind the dense, metallic core - like in this illustration.

More and more, we think  the properties of a planet's core are fundamental to its long-term evolution. Venus, Earth, and Mars are all roughly the same size and roughly the same distance from the sun, cosmically speaking, yet they're so different! Venus has hell death clouds, Earth is home, and Mars is dry and dead - why?

The Psyche asteroid gives us the unique opportunity to actually observe a planetary core directly - it's much harder to dig to the center of a planet than it is to go to space, so that's exactly what we're going to do!

On Thursday October 12th at 10:16am Eastern, the Psyche spacecraft will launch and begin its journey to the asteroid belt! You can watch at https://www.nasa.gov/nasatv/!

First and foremost, I want to say that I'm big on "do what you want forever" when it comes to fandom, even if I hate a certain ship. Just because I post about hating something (because it's my opinion and I can also do what I want forever), doesn't mean I'm gonna police or attack people who love it. I don't understand it at all. Max is a vicious, vicious bully, who terrorizes Richie and his friends for literally no fucking reason. He's constantly on a power trip and he enjoys it, and no matter what his home life is like, I don't think that justifies his actions. It doesn't justify his actions. The entire school lives in fear of him, the entire school has physically or emotionally felt his wrath, even his so called "friends", Kyle and Jason. Hell, Richie says he used to not be able to even open his locker out of fear. If Max hadn't died, and if he had genuinely worked on himself, the absolute MOST I could see between him and Richie is a shaky acquaintanceship. I don't think anyone would want ANYTHING to do with him for a very long time, once they knew it was safe to not suck up to him.

I don't understand how people can watch the Nerdy Prudes Must Die song and scene and think it's mutual-love relationship material. Richie's death is genuinely haunting, even only the parts we see of it. Richie is sobbing, begging for his life, and Max taunts him, and you think that's fluffy? And reminder - we don't actually see Richie's real death. We see Max about to strike and laugh maniacally before the lights go black, but at the beginning Bailey says Richie was purple-nurpled and swirlied to death. At the beginning and in Richie's death scene, we hear Max calling out for him, toying with him like predator and prey.

A lot of people make ghost Max out to be nothing that he is in canon, a lot of people make him a goofy guy who is just mildly annoyed by Richie's and Ruth's ghosts. And while canon Max has his funny and silly moments, it's important to remember his actual character and what he represents - a figurative and literal monster. In fanon, people erase all of Max's bad traits, which is what his entire character is meant to be. He's not some dumb himbo, he's a bully. He's meant to represent a real thing that hurts and even kills real people. It's a disservice to take that from him.

I've seen certain Michie works put emphasis on Richie being the one to forgive Max, and not Max taking the long road to work on himself, when in reality it is NEVER on the victim to forgive their abuser. Even if Max works on himself and redeems himself to the best of his ability, even if he gives Richie the most sincere apology in the multiverse, Richie does not have to forgive him. He does not owe him that. And I don't think Richie would forgive him, at least not for a long, long time.

And also, if you want to ship Richie with someone who needs a little redemption, Jason Jepson is right there, and it's a way more probable ship than Michie ever has the capacity of being.

I have the image of Six-Shot playing the Deceptacon equivalent of relationship councilor in self-defense. Only it does something to Tarn's broken and scrambled Seekerkin coding. And now the Phase Sixer(and the rest of High Comand) has to deal with Tarn's instinctive attempts to trine court him.

After a particularly charged and akward meeting, Megatron catches Starscream locking himself into a storage room to laugh and weep. He thought he was going to catch his SiC in mid-plot. Instead he finds Starscream clutching a shelving unit for suport. "He would have been an excellent Left Wing. Primus fragging blessed now he's courting a Trine leader." And Starscream's too lost in his hysterical laughter to explain.

Ahhh, I have the image of the Camien nurse and Sixshot stuck in the "he looks at me and I look at him" meme.

Sixshot has so many questions. He refuses to remain in Tarn's vicinity because he's constantly fighting his own beast-related deep-coding instincts trying to online his panels in response to Tarn's massive repression. (It's that strong.) Meanwhile, the nurse is trying and failing to lay low with Overlord casting a ghastly shadow over the poor thing. Either you're tucked within the Peaceful Tyranny or deep in the bowels of Hook's domain mixing up new materials.

Because Sixshot prefers something simple and effective...

He locks you and Tarn inside a medical supply closet and lets himself be taken by the medbay staff for some "issues."

Tarn's living a dream with your wells, you're discovering a new kink, and Sixshot is muttering darkly for you two to frag nasty and get it over it.
