okay, potentially stupid suggestion people much smarter than me already made
shouldn't the thing people as outsiders do about the palestine/israel conflict be to just. make their communities more welcoming to jewish people?
like, as far as i understand, the big thing about israel is that it's supposed to be safe for jews to live there. as in, they can be jews and not have to worry about schools and workplaces not accomodating their religious observances or the law just straight up making parts of being jewish illegal or being victims of antisemitic hate crimes, all of which seem very fair and reasonable concerns pretty much everywhere else in the world, and which seem to grow increasingly more important with the rise of antisemitic bullshit currently happening
but more jewish people moving to israel because they are made to feel unsafe and unwelcome everywhere else in the world is just going to add more tension to the situation? and is going to give more power to the bastards in power going 'see, we're the only ones who actually care about jewish lives, you have to support us or risk being killed in a hate crime or forcibly assimilated'? which seems to be the absolute opposite of what we actually want to happen?
like, jewish people are people just like everyone else. and just like everyone else, they'll want to keep living their lives, ideally in the places and communities they're used to. most people don't want to uproot their whole lives and move halfway across the world to a country where they don't speak the language and aren't familiar with the laws and customs and potentially have to re-do all their education and qualifications because their diplomas don't transfer, just for shits and giggles. they usually especially don't want to do that if they have siblings or children or parents who they might end up leaving behind
so if the goal is 'jewish people don't have any inherent right to israel and should not be there', well. don't give them a reason to go there? be polite and welcoming and accommodating and stop antisemitism when you encounter it, so that the jews around you, who are currently, in accordance with your goal, not in israel, will feel safe to stay where they are?
and if the goal is 'jewish people have all the same rights as everyone else, but they're weird and i don't want to be around them', that is absolutely your right, but the same is true for the horse girl in your class or the coworker who is far too invested in pro wrestling or the person at the gym who seems to subsist entirely on energy drinks and a questionable sleep schedule, and you're perfectly fine not needlessly antagonising any of those people, and defending their right to be as weird as they damn well please, and helping them if someone is actively trying to harm them, so just extend that same courtesy to jews? they probably feel the same way about you, and you can all just cheerfully avoid each other with zero effort expended on making anyone's life needlessly harder?
or maybe the goal is 'palestinians deserve better, and we should make the israeli armed forces not attack them', in which case. it's still in your interest to keep jewish people in your community to stay there? because compulsory military service is a thing in israel, and being a conscientious objector is invariably more difficult than simply being elsewhere and thus ineligible
regardless of how you, personally, feel about jews or israel or the israel/palestine conflict, or anything else connected to it, and regardless of what your ideal resolution looks like, and regardless of how little or how much you understand of the details, we can all agree that more jews migrating to israel will not improve the situation for anyone, so maybe. stop making jews feel unwelcome everywhere else in the world?

i was a figure drawing artist for quite a while, and im going to say that models with fat and/or excess skin were the most amazing to study. you can only draw so many thin muscles and sinew for anatomical study before youve seen and learnt it all. and when you finally get to experience putting the soft parts of a human ontop of the skeleton--the skin, the rolls, the fat, the curves and the layers of distribution on every part regardless of where it is or how much--you realize that when a 'perfect body' is presented to us as the 'default,' we lose understanding of the way our body is uniquely ours. remember to love the soft parts. they are, in their own way, art

anyway i know people don't like to hear it because of the whole 'sic semper tyrannus' vibe of it all but the modern day equivalent of the ides of march would be if all those senators who've been in office since the 50s and were getting busted for insider trading in 2020 got together and stabbed bernie sanders to death in the capitol rotunda. i'm not even kidding.
#personal#ides of march#like let's be clear this wasn't the oppressed masses rising up against a tyrant#it was a bunch of aristocratic nepo babies who were the wealthiest and most elite of roman society#deciding that they didn't like This One Guy's Ambition and deciding to perform extrajudicial murder#and then utterly failing to plan for after that#given that this guy had a reputation as being 'a man of the people' and created a lot of infrastructure to help the plebes and the masses#so you know the actual people and not just pseudo-royalty of the time were really fucking pissed about the whole thing#and because the conspirators were apparently fucking DUMB they didn't have contingencies and basically hastened along roman autocracy#by thrusting the infinitely more ruthless and bloodthirsty octavian into power during a time that demanded ruthlessness#like caesar was a tyrant in the sense that he went around the countries that weren't his conquering and killing and colonizing#but like the senate didn't give a shit about any actual atrocities he might have committed against other peoples as he subjugated them#cuz they were all for that subjugation!#their grievances were just the most upper echelons of society deciding they knew best and being dumbasses all the while#sorry to burst any bubbles#(also very funny that sic semper tyrannus gets thrown around a lot as a thing for pro ides people)#(cuz the most famous moment where someone said that was when pathetic racist asshole john wilkes booth said it after shooting lincoln)#so you know. shrug dot emoji on that too

The Israel-Arab Conflict isn't Complex
1. 99.7% of MENA (Middle-East & N. Africa) is controlled by one religion, which has ethnically cleansed nearly all others.
2. The conflict is not about land, it's about jihad, which is ethnic cleansing + conquest.
3. Together jihadists + leftists have created a weaponized narrative framework of lies.
4. In reality, Arabs colonized Judea and ethnically cleansed nearly the entire MENA region, where they continue to persecute minorities. They often project their faults on their victims.
5. To be clear, the last thing jihadists want is a new state or new national identity -- they have over 50 already. By their own voices, they want the submission of all others.
6. The left's unholy alliance with jihadists is based on shared values of antisemitism and authoritarianism. Both groups wish to impose their values forcefully on others. Both create webs of rhetoric and grievances to excuse any actions, even the most despicable imaginable which go against any modern values.
7. The only solution is to unravel the threads of hate everywhere we can. We must exorcise antisemitism from our own society, which was deeply embedded in it by the Romans, who created a state religion institutionalizing it.
8. Hate must be completely disassembled from Israel's territories as well, for there to be peace in the region. Globally, we must support moderates and reject extremism.
9. The West must humbly open its mind and realize it hasn't lived up to its own values. It's been deeply programmed to demonize Jews for 1700 years. This hate indoctrination extremely clouds the West's judgements about Israel. Ideas have power.
10. The West is broken when it comes to Jews. Its ideas do not work at all, its obsession is highly neurotic and toxic. Extremism and hate need to be resolved everywhere.
11. The reason Western society is cherished is due to its hard fought for moral values. We must abide by these values if we want our civilization to continue and evolve. We must not fall into depravity. We must intensely guard our virtues!

AHHHH, I KEEP THINKING ABOUT IT!
Okay, I think the handling TFP/Aligned Orion Pax was weakened by the background inconsistencies that were supposed to ground his personality and motivations.
And that's why Orion Pax can come off as an asshole, weirdly tone deaf, or very naive, yet deep inside the revolution as a competent head.
It's as if the writers took so many cool things to prop up the guy, but let it compete with "How Orion Pax and Megatronus were Different" and made a mess.
And, depending on your view, it either was half-heartedly addressed or done masterfully.
Saltysaltdog did a really great analysis on Megatron's feelings of betrayal and humiliation of letting Orion Pax so close to everything, and it's found here: click
The biggest gripe I have with the whole thing with the characterization of Orion Pax is twofold: 1) the writers didn't leverage Orion Pax's unique, and let's be honest, precarious position, and 2) didn't expand deeper the fundamental differences that essentially broke Orion Pax and Megatron apart and started that catastrophic civil war.
The setup is there. Megatron and Orion Pax are distorted mirrors of each other. The major differences are driven by what was socially appropriate for them to consider as pathways.
The Cybertron that came to was deep in the grips of a well-established and well-entrenched caste system. In that kind of society, it isn't just money that decrees social mobility. The very hierarchy of the society is driven by cultural and religious norms on the "worthiness" of each group at various set levels. And from that "worth," it not only dictates the rights of the members in a caste but decrees the appropriate behavior and outlets as well as dictates how relationships between members of different castes are maintained.
So Orion Pax is a giant "FUCK YOU" to all of that. His very presence would have pissed off so many parties that isn't funny.
As in, I honestly believe he's alive because his initial seclusion from civilization had given him key skills and behaviors that saved his ass and Alpha Trion's personal care.
Yes. There would have been bullying. Yes. There would be complete resentment and hatred. Yes. There would have been social orstracism from his own colleagues.
Even individuals who are lumped with him as "caste climbers" or just sympathetic/pitying would have stayed away by the dangers of their own reputation being tainted.
"You're nothing but a bauble and an ornament. Merely a prized pet for Alpha Trion. One day, he'll lose interest, and that day, you'll go back to where you belong."
Orion Pax flaunted all the appropriate ways of inclusion to their occupation and way of life. He doesn't have a frame or a specialized ability that's related to information. He has no achievements, no accolades, and doesn't even have a sponsored education from a prestigious university or any useful connections.
Orion Pax is both an outsider and a representative. He needs to be extremely mindful of everything: his words, his tone, his body language, his own work... are all subject to scrutiny.
(And it either shows his sneakiness that he's able to shake off all eyes when he descends down to the gladiatorial game, his ability to lie by omission or obfuscation, or his colleagues relief with him out of sight.)
That very grey area would have left deep impressions on him. It would explain his passiveness, the perceptiveness, the way he speaks, and the careful plans he quietly does by the sides in a need-to-know basis.
Violence can come in many forms. And in a world where your worth is tied to your caste, then Orion Pax should be deeply familiar with the various ways it can be soft, sweet, and utterly insidious. A velvet wrapped steel glove. A dagger from the shadows. A poisonous treat. A deal of bad faith. A betrayl from a kind face.
Remember: Ratchet went through the proper channels and with the appropriate frame to match his function. Of course, he has that shield against so many grievances and injustices as well as many prejudices that color his perceptions. Look at the differences in how he recounts the brotherhood between Megatronus and Orion Pax and the outcome of before the High Council.
Orion is both given privileges that Megatron and his cohort wouldn't have, but it's also a noose around his neck. He is severely handicapped by Alpha Trion's deliberate meddling to keep the reincarnated Thirteen/the Matrix's newest Prime nearby and simultaneously well-informed and in the dark.
Unlike the miner-turned-gladiator, Orion doesn't have that option for bloodsport. His too low-caste for the avenues of security by the high-caste, but too high-caste to partake in the low-caste culture. It's acceptable for them to be physically violent, to be in bloodsport, to solve their grievances with their fists.
It's vastly different to the complete ruination of an individual's life that Orion got thrown into the deep end: reputation, finances, personal and professional relationships, involuntary reformat... The power games of the higher-castes are completely different ball-game.
He's stuck with his own thoughts because there's no way he can voice doubts to Alpha Trion (the mech who gave him such a position, advice, and unrestricted access to the archives) nor to his colleagues (who either hate his guts or would sell the information because information is power and the Hall of Records is a major point of power).
Look at the people he attaches himself to. They're rather straightforward: Megatronus, Ratchet, Jazz, Bumblebee, Arcee...
He's drawn to their ease yet still holds himself in a certain degree of formality because that's how he managed to survive in a snake pit. And that's too deeply ingrained into him at that point. People read that negatively. Megatron once saw that but didn't understand what it truly meant. Megatron saw his willingness to give up so much and his privileges, but he didn't understand the extent of the scars that Orion mentally and emotionally has.
Ratchet would be one of the few that really perceives that. The medic may not fully understands but he keeps trying, and the war eventually breaks down the barriers.
It would make so much sense about his strange notions, why he doesn't allow Megatron explore "his" world, why he keeps everything to himself, why he relatively comfortable with others outside his "caste."
This guy would literally ruminate the entire work day (both legal and subversive) until he fell asleep after rechecking the locks 27365837 times so an assassin or unfortunate "pet" didn't come into his room.
This could explain why he basically highjacked the damn meeting. Orion Pax has unrestricted access to many records. He knows his history. He can read between the lines. His A-game was on, especially in this endeavor.
Was it a well-intentioned plan to draw fire to himself because he had Alpha Trion’s strange degree of protection compared to the others? Was it panic because he knew all the ways to kill a person until death was mercy? Was it Plan 27-b because he thought all the ways it could go wrong? Was it his well-honed instinct demanding him to divert and pacify, but careful with the words (soft and fluttering with hidden danger with what is unsaid) to keep avenues open because to have the Primacy bestowed upon them would be an honor and completely legitimized the movement? Did he see the noose closing around Megatron and couldn't bear witness to have it strangle him, too?!
There's so much going on here. It all hinges on cultural absorption and clashes and the meddling by an ancient fart of an oracle, and it's just so tragically fascinating.

I don't know how to articulate my thoughts on it consicely (as usual, hence why I rarely ever write posts here anymore), but ever since this week's dunmesh ep I can't stop thinking about That scene between toshiro and laios and how it's been talked about as a piece of representation of the neurodivergent struggle.
I've seen those panels countless times before the anime got to it, and I can't understate how Real of a thing it is that we're seeing through laios- that pain and frustration that comes from having the rug pulled under you in being told that been getting it Wrong the whole time and nobody's bothered to point out the donkey tail pinned on your ass.
but I think that's only the first half of the statement, and the way people talk (and don't talk) about toshiro does the moment a disservice.
seeing how people talk about it before getting to the scene itself, it ended up catching me off-guard how much of a Person toshiro is. he's always talked about as the strawman or the figure representing neurotypical society- the one that others us.
I see where it's all coming from, he's not a likeable character to most of the fandom for reasons I won't hold anyone against, but again- he's an important part of the picture that dunmesh paints of the nd struggle.
I find it absurd to portray toshiro as a representation of the 'average'. being both of royalty and of a culture that has instilled upon him his own values and expectations when it comes to socialization. it's why the inclusion of his retainers (especially maizuru) was a brilliant story decision; alongside laios', we get to see HIS social ineptitudes and how central they are to HIS character.
like. a major point of grievance many of the audience has with toshiro is his rose-tinted 'romance' with obviously-uninterested falin. I get it, especially if you've experienced that type of engagement with an unwanted pursuer. but dear lord if that doesn't perfectly parallel him with laios as a fellow Socially Inept Man.
it hit me as much as laios hit me when he said he envied our boy's sincerity. because that's a true and often less talked about part of the neurodivergent struggle(tm)- the difficulty to express your feelings. just like the other end of the spectrum, it hurts yourself as much as it hurts others.
as someone whose brain problems often manifest as social anxiety and feeling like i'm either unable to or unworthy of expressing how I feel, I envy laios too.
tl;dr- there are two characters present in that scene in episode 17.

If someone derails your conversation about Israel to be about Israel's treatment of this or that group, Mizrachim, Beta Israel, etc. you may just want to consider their motivations, and do a little digging into the kinds of subjects they normally talk about on their own blogs.
If someone who has staunchly antizionist views, like I'm talking thinly veiled genocidal fantasies about destroying Israel and reveling in the chaos that would bring, and having no concern for the future of 7 millions Jews, their concerns about Medinat Yisrael's treatment of minority groups are not valid.
This is Concern Trolling.
If someone is derailing you to accuse Israel, through accusing you, of sterilizing Ethiopian women, stealing Mizrachi babies and having them raised by "white" parents, trying to destroy Yiddish, all these alleged violent assimilationist policies that Israel employs against fellow Jews?
A non Jew barging into your space and bringing up intra-community issues and grievances is a red flag. Do not fall for the sealioning trap. Do not turn out your pockets. Do not fall for the concern trolling.
Because what is their solution to these problems? To eliminate Israel as a state? And what about these minority groups within Israeli society then? Their answer is the same as their answer for the Ashkenazim: who cares? They largely imagine all Israeli Jews can simply move to the United States or France or something. The fact that over 95% of Israelis cannot just go to the countries of their parents or grandparents is of no concern to them.
That's why it's concern trolling. They're trolling you by pretending to be concerned, and baiting you into discussing an intra-community issue because they think that'll be the argument that finally gets you to disavow Israel. Because now you'll have no choice but to agree Israel is irredeemably problematic, because now it affects other Jews. So they are exhibiting a kind of bitterly envious brand of antisemitism. They think that all Jews believe in Jewish supremacy. They're quite mad about it. This is an aspect of the Chosen People canard.
But the main reason concern trolling is bad is because they don't care about these groups they bring up. They're not defending them, they're not championing their rights. They're trying to distract you and make you look like a hypocrite. When they cheer for Hamas raping and pillaging and spraying bullets into Israelis, they don't care if it happens to Beta Israel women who've supposedly been mass sterilized against their will. They cheer all the same. So much for their legitimate concerns that Israel is antisemitic in of itself I guess?
If the solution to a problem faced by a minority group within a country is "destroy their country which they also believe has saved them from ethnic cleansing and mass death, and figure out the rest later," you're not an ally to that group; stop pretending you are!
This is tied into pinkwashing, but from a sort of opposite approach. If any societal progress that Israel makes for minority groups is a psyop and a marketing ploy to cover up Palestinian Genocide, the concern trolling is antizionists holding Israel hostage to any societal progress it has not made. But they never intend on letting Israel improve these relationships. Israel is too nice to gay Jews, and not nice enough to African Jews. The only course of action therefore, is to let Hamas butcher them alongside straight Jews and "European" Jews.
So if you see someone trying to engage in this game, ignore them! Your time is worth so much more, and the vulnerable minority groups of Jews (both in Israel and the Diaspora) are much safer with Jews who discriminate against them than goyim who tout social justice rhetoric but want to see them dead. Plus, so many Jews are already doing the work, learning and listening, and trying to improve. This enrages the concern trolls like nothing else.
Call out Israel's bigotries, but you know, maybe don't trust the people who aren't affected by those bigotries invading your space and demanding your allyship to groups of people they'd be content seeing die en masse. Like "Israel is actually antisemitic against this vulnerable group of Jews!" and "All Israelis are settlers, none are truly civilians, and any form of violence against settlers is justified" are two stances that do not mesh very well...
Because at the very least, they're separating good Jews from bad Jews again, just based on what they perceive intra-Jewish oppression to be like. And they expect these good Jews to cheer and happily live as dhimmis in the absolute chaos that is a 100% inevitable Hamas-Fatah civil war and total societal collapse... and spit on the graves of their kinsmen.
And at worst, the concern trolls won't bother distinguishing these vulnerable Jews from their alleged oppressors anyway, and happily watch as they all flee with the clothes on their backs or get gunned down or enslaved by Hamas "Resistance" Fighters.

JET SET RADIO FUTURE
Hello everyone! I am a DJ PROFESSOR K, the embodiment of beauty and wisdom, and a heroic companion!! Do you feel that life is boring? Looking for something fun to do? Come on! Listen to my Tokyo underground radio station! ! Don't forget the name, yes! ! It's "JET SET RADIO"! ! YEEEEEEEE~~~~HAAAAAA! ! !
Let's start with an introduction to the current situation! Tokyo is now dominated by Gouji Rokkaku , whose "Rokkaku Group" is more powerful than the local government, and no matter what level it is, such as real estate, society, culture or entertainment, it is also controlled by them, and the people have no freedom of choice at all, day after day, month after month, they live according to the meaning of the Rokkaku, without a soul and without their own selves. Recently, Rokkaku succeeded in becoming the mayor, which completely fell to the hands of Rokkaku in Tokyo, even the law can be changed by him at will, of course, the police are not spared, and they have become Rokkaku's Corps and they are fighting against those who are against him, OH MY GOD!
However, where there is darkness, there is light, and a group of young people who are passionate about life are determined to vent their inner grievances with graffiti and to awaken the sleeping people with crazy actions. But there was one thing that surprised them, When it happened, it turned out that "Rokkaku Expo Stadium" was in full swing, and the surrounding vigilance was also strengthened a lot, which made the struggle between these young people and the Rokkaku Group heated up. Although the enemy is a group with great power, fortunately, many capable people have joined in the process of protest, which has ignited new hope for this group of young people. And this class of ideal Stormy Teenagers, they call themselves "GG"! !

The mysterious boy who appeared on the streets of Tokyo, since his appearance, things have changed rapidly.
ROBOY
The robot that CONE(CORN) retrieves, everything else is unknown, only known to be as arrogant as CONE(CORN).

HASHED (HAYASHI)
The police commander of the Rokkaku Police Force, Division 0 is a very troublesome policeman. If he is targeted by him, he will never have a good life.
Gouji Rokkaku

Left STICK is to control the character's movement. After inputting a few directions, the character will make a sprint start and then move forward at an even speed.
Jump
The A button is for jumping, The distance and height depend on the time of pressing the button, if you press it for a long time, you will jump higher, different characters will have more or less jumping power.
Turn
On the way to several directions, press the Y button to make the character turn his back foward and make a backward movement.
Dialogue
Some characters can have a dialogue with the player, as long as you approach the player, the dialogue icon will appear, and you can press the right button
Accelerate
Each time you use it, you need to consume 10 cans of spray paint, press the B button to use it, and you don't need to use it while jumping.
Camera Correction
During the game, the camera will turn with the character's movement, press the left button to correct it to look straight ahead.
TIC Tips
When fighting against the enemy or Rival, the left button can be used to lock the target. When the opponent is in front and the CURSOR is yellow, press the left button, and the CURSOR will turn red. At this time, press the B button to accelerate, and there is a chance to make a straight line to recover the gap, but it still needs 10 cans of spray paint.
TRICK
GRIND
Basically all handrails or fences can also do this action, just walk close to the above facilities, press the A button to jump, the character will automatically slide on the handrail or fence, and is not limited by the slope, even if it's vertical.
AIR
Using speed or an inclined platform, you can jump higher than normal, and the movements you make while flying are classified as AIR.
WALLRIDE
Specific walls (such as advertising boards) allow players to slide on them, and they are not limited by the slope, as long as the character touches the wall, and the speed is faster than that on the ground.
HANDPLANT
In some "U" shaped terrain, it is possible for the character to make this action, and when the character is about to reach the edge of the item, press the X button to make an upside down posture, which has the effect of accelerating.
COMBINATION
GRIND COMBINATION
On the railing-shaped terrain, it is possible to make GRIND movements, but in fact, combined actions can also be added to GRIND movements. And the method is simple, just press the X and Y buttons, and press continuously to make a series of actions to increase the score, as for what the use of the extra score is, I will introduce it to you later.
AIR COMBINATION
AIR COMBINATION is almost the same as GRIND, as long as you enter X and Y in the air state, the character will make fancy.
Spray Painting Tips
In the game map, there will be a rotating round plan (GRAFFITI POINT) on the wall, which represents a place that needs to be painted, the player has to make the character approach and then press the right button to spray the pattern. Each GRAFFITI POINT needs to consume a can of spray paint, but one thing to note is that pressing the right button anywhere will also consume a can of spray paint.
Continuous spraying
If there are more than one GRAFFITI POINT side by side on the wall, it means that the spray painting is of a larger size. Players can start from the first pattern and press the right button until the last one.
The type of spray painting
There are five sizes of spray painting in the game, namely SS, S, M, L, and XL.
NEW GAME
After selecting NEW GAME, you will start the main game mode for one person only and in order to spray GG's spray paint all over Tokyo, the player must travel through all the different areas and solve the obstacles in front of you. The game consists of two main parts, "STREET" and "GARAGE PARK", which will be introduced in detail below.
STREET
Based on Tokyo, each "STREET" can be regarded as a level, and certain conditions must be completed before moving on to the next one. As for the conditions, it is different each time, the player can ask other team members at Garage Park or listen to JSR'S DJ PROFESSOR K for information. But there is one thing common to all STREETs, that is, all spray painting must be completed. Another thing that we must mention is that each STREET will have certain hidden things that will not be provided with intelligence, how to find out, you have to look at your skills.
GARAGE PARK
The base camp of GG, all team members will also gather here, players can freely practice here, and listen to the ADVICE of teammates. In addition, if you talk to ROBOY, you can enter the GARAGE MENU screen, which has functions such as game setting change, SAVE, custom spraying, basic skill training, and character rotation in use. And every time you finish a street, you have to come back here once, so GARAGE PARK is definiteky an important place.
GG Handbook
In the GG Handbook, you can clearly understand the "STREET MISSION" of each version, so what is STREET MISSION?
In fact, these are the conditions for the appearance of the hidden "GRAFFITI SOUL" and every time you complete a STREET MISSION, a GRAFFITI SOUL will appear. GRAFFITI SOUL is an optional spray pattern that can be viewed and selected in the GARAGE MENU after obtaining it. However, in order to make STREET MISSION appear, you must first find and get the "MYSTERY TAPE" in this section, then the STREET MISSION can be found in the GG Handbook.

there's a bit of discourse online around richard hays, a famous conservative bible scholar who wrote a famous book about new testament ethics where he came down against homosexuality, having now changed his mind and coming out with a lgbtq-affirming book later this year
and some people are a bit frustrated at how much harm he's caused and that he can just change his mind and be forgiven etc. i get it, especially for people who are no longer christian and not invested in affirming Christianity being a good thing.
but i also feel like. there's such a culture online for calling for 'accountability' and not letting people get off scot-free, which is valid, especially in a society where people often get to be shitty w impunity (e.g. trump, musk). but also like... is not writing a big book directly rebutting his previous position a form of accountability? some famous evangelicals have changed their position at their end of their lives verbally but too late to make any change to their legacy; i think actively working to rebutt your past self is a big deal.
and secondly. i think what's important here is a significant, well-respected conservative christian scholarly voice defecting to defend the affirming position. that's a big deal. there are people w similar trajectories like james brownson, but he's pretty much entirely famous now for being affirming. Hays seems like more of a game-changer.
and so i feel like - while i respect people's right to be annoyed and frustrated with the damage he has done - it feels almost... self-centred to be focusing on the man himself? like bruh i dont care about his personal sins or righteousness, that's God's problem; I would much rather be rejoicing in another crack appearing in the armour of non-affirming Christianity. i would rather rejoice in the resurrection than waste time geting mad bc there never should have been a cross in the first place. there is more rejoicing over one sinner who repents than 99 righteous etc.
plus, Hays is hardly the ringleader of christian homophobia. he contributed a brick in the edifice, sure, but idk. i think getting too mad at the man himself is to exonerate an entire system built on homophobia, and to prioritise twitter grievance games over the actual tangible effect of his change of heart

Pairing - George Weasley x Fem!Reader Summary - After Fred's death leaves his girlfriend and his twin mourning, they seek comfort in one another. Warnings - Sad. Mentions of death and violence, drinking, very small implication of sex Words - 3.2K
Masterlist
The war had taken several witches and wizards. It had taken mothers, fathers, children, teachers, siblings. It had taken partners. Y/n was just one of many who was left behind, left trying to stitch the black hole which Fred had once filled. Of course, she couldn't be so picky about it. She was one in many who had lost their lovers and were collectively trying to figure out how they were going to go on without them.
Everyone had lost someone. It just so happened Y/n and George had lost their person. And their person happened to be the same.
Many celebrated the death of Voldemort, choosing to drink and dance their way through the grievance which burdened the magic community.  Others found the music and the laughter only tormented their grief. Y/n was one of them. George, however, he wasn't so sure how he was meant to deal with the death of his twin. To him, there was just a shadow. No amount of drink or music was going to change that; he'd always feel the looming empty space next to him.
The funeral had brought many of them together. The whole family of Weasleys under one roof. Past school mates joined too, family friends, wizards who saw it best to pay their respects. They huddled around the grave and, one by one, they said their goodbyes. Y/n was the last to leave. She'd waited until everyone had their time first, Molly getting gently tugged away by Ron as they were ushered inside where food was being served.
Y/n was the last one - and she was alone for it. She had attempted to hold in her tears, but then she sniffled and they escaped from her waterline. She would have let go completely had it not been for the palm which pressed against her back. The girl jumped and looked to find George had come to join her. "You shouldn't be alone for this." He had said as his gaze tracked the gravestone.
"I can't-" Her words choked her throat. They were on the tip of her tongue but they were tightening it, suffocating her. "It's stupid, but there's times, very small moments, when I just forget. I forget he's really gone and then I remember all over again and it's like I've just been punched in the gut."
George nodded as his arm came around her, pulling her closer, "I know the feeling." He replied.
She sniffled once more and tried to hold it in, but she soon failed. Her head fell to George's shoulder and her tears soon followed.
The two stood there for an unknown about of time. There was no telling with grief. There were times when everything moved too quickly, times when everything was a drag and things moved in slow motion. Y/n wasn't sure which one it was, only that by the time they had returned to the main building, Molly had been questioning George about where he had been all that time.
It was after the funeral when things got more difficult. It was the way she felt as if she had been spat back into society and forced to live in it again as if she hadn't just lost a part of herself. Y/n went on day to day, slowly feeling as if she was falling into that hole Fred had left her with. It drew her in close and encompassed her until she felt stuck again. There came a point where her thoughts had collectively decided that there was no end; there was no end to grief, just that black hole which would never fail to leave her.
It was around this point in time when George knocked at her door with a proposition. He came and sat down in her small home and she made a pot of tea for them to both share. A part of her had been relieved that someone had come to see her, possibly check in on her, and that it was someone she hoped to share her grief with.
"I was thinking," George started as he placed the china cup back down to the circular kitchen table. "If you were up to it of course, that maybe you'd like to help out. At the shop." He watched her expression carefully, watched in thought as if the idea may comfort her, or whether it disgusted her. "It's an idea. I need the help and I thought maybe it'd help you..."
He trailed off, feeling as if his next words may cross a line they had drawn.  Alas, Y/n finished them for him: "Feel closer to Fred." His name felt foreign on her lips. She hadn't spoken it for a great time. Maybe not even since the funeral.
Y/n recalled a time when the name had been yelled down the halls in glee, or conventionally when she was in need of his attention or the times when it was whispered against the touch of his lips. Now the name seemed to carry only heartache and memories which no longer glowed.
"I thought it might work." George suggested.
Y/n's gaze fell to her tea and the swirls it was creating. She sniffled at a thought and looked back up to face the boy. "George, I would love to help you, truly, but I can barely open my wardrobe and stare at his jumper still hanging there without breaking down. If I can't even do that, how would I deal in the shop? It's like there's glimpses of him at every turn." She told him. She realised then that this was the most honest he had been since Fred's passing. "I would like to, truly, but I don't think I'd be of much help."
George nodded, trying not to let on his disappointment in the decision. He stared at his tea; Y/n did too. A silence suffocated the air. The boy glanced up and spoke softly, "Forgive me, Y/n, if I'm overstepping, but do you ever wonder that maybe things need to change? I understand the grief and the sadness, trust me, I do, but if you don't face it enough, then it'll consume you." He went on as her gaze drew to him, glossy and nostalgic. "I don't mean this as a way to persuade you to come work at the shop, I mean this as a way of telling you that everything will remind you of him one way or the other. You can't let that control you."
A tear slipped from her eyes. Her hand swatted it away before it could fall any further down her cheek. She wasn't wanting to cry. She wasn't wanting any pity. She just wanted some common ground. George seemed to be that common ground. But, in that moment, as she faced his words she knew to be truth, it freighted her core. The silence returned.
George chugged the rest of his tea and abruptly stood from his chair, gathering his things with him. Without a word, he headed for the door.
"What if I can't?" Y/n's tone seeped through the air. She turned to face him, still sat the table, worried that if she tried to stand, her knees may buckle. "What if I'm not ready to move on?"
If only George knew such answer. Instead, he looked at her warmly and said, "No one ever is."
She gave no reply and the boy left, leaving Y/n's head with filling thoughts she would attend to.
His words echoed for weeks. And for them weeks she changed nothing. Maybe her glare on that jumper in the wardrobe lingered more. Maybe her thoughts at night were beginning to question George's suggestion. Maybe she was slowly coming around to this idea. No matter how hard she had tried, it never left her head and it came to the point where she had to act on it.
One weekend came by. Another weekend in which her plans were minimal. In fact, she had no plans. She never really had plans anymore.
Alas, she picked up her coat and made her way to Diagon Ally and then, the shop. Luckily with it still being in the school term, it was quiet. A few families with young children and babies wandered around, giggling at the silly noises the toys would make. Y/n found her gaze lingering for a moment, finding herself remembering a time when that was what she wanted between her and Fred: a family. Another great big Weasley family.
George was right; she couldn't look at anything now without the thought of Fred daunting her mind.
"Y/n," The girl turned to find George standing behind her. "I didn't expect you here."
She took a few steps closer to him, making their conversation less out in the open. "Sorry, I should have called-"
"No, no, it's fine." He assured. "I'm glad you're here." A whisker of a smile glazed his lips which Y/n struggled to match.
She nodded and waited a moment before continuing, "I couldn't stop thinking about what you said. All of it." He was listening ever so intently, hanging onto every word that fell from her lips. "I think that maybe you were right. I think it could help. I think it could help us both if I came a worked here for a bit."
His smile tugged slightly. "You're certain?"
"Yes."
"Well, whenever you're ready to start then-"
She cut through his words without even thinking, "Now."
George's brows raised, unsure if he had heard her correctly, "Now? You wanted to start now?" He reiterated.
"May as well." Truth was, the idea of going home terrified her. Going home would mean going back to being alone. At least here, with George, she had someone. And maybe someone wasn't much, but Y/n was certain he was better than standing in a crowd of people who didn't care to understand her.
"I'll show you around then."
He took her around the levels once again. She'd been in the shop before, many times. Though, she hadn't stepped foot in it since they left for the battle of Hogwarts. And she was right in finding them many glimpses of Fred when she glanced around, but then she would turn and find George and suddenly that hole wasn't so daunting.
Y/n's jobs weren't exhausting, maybe tedious, but she was able to get through them. Mainly they consisted of her stocking shelves and sweeping. But it had calmed her mind and kept her from returning to that lonely place in her mind where that black hole was sucking her in. So she agreed with George to come again the week after. And then the week after that too. Before either of them could realise it, they had seamlessly slipped into a pattern.
Y/n started coming more often, showing up at least three times a week at one point.
There came one night, when she was closing up the shop, that George caught her. "Thanks again for today." He said as they walked side by side towards the back of the shop where Y/n kept her things.
She glanced up and forced a smile to crack at her lips, "Of course."
He slowed as she took hold of her bag and her coat, slowly slipping them on. She was curious when she looked back up to find the boy still standing there, deep in some thought Y/n was unable to pin-point. "You alright?" She questioned the boy.
His gaze snapped back to her. And while he nodded, there seemed a distant speck in his eyes which led Y/n believe he wasn't. "No, fine, fine." He mumbled away. "I was just wondering if maybe you'd like to get a beer at the Leaky Cauldron? It is Friday after all. But, of course, there's no pressure for you to-"
"I'd love to, George." Suppose if it meant longer from that lonely place. Or maybe, after these weeks and these months, maybe it was less about Y/n keeping away from the black hole, and more about keeping close to what was filling that space.
He struggled to conceal his smile which he feared was too much in the moment. "Great." He replied. Then he grabbed his coat and joined the girl's side as the wandered out into the street and towards the pub.
The pub was bustling at this time. Many witches and wizard calling their orders, chucking and talking about what a future without you-know-who would hold. It was sense which felt foreign to Y/n after all this time. She stuck close to George as they got two drinks and snuck into a quiet corner towards the back.
"Thanks for coming. I've always been alone past few weeks." He uttered as they took their seats, not daring to mention Fred's name yet.
"Well I suppose you're welcome." She replied. "I'm trying to get out more - if you hadn't already noticed."
He grinned and carefully went into his next topic of conversation. "I've thinking about the work you've been doing at the shop. I'd like to offer you a propper job. One where you get paid and you get time tabled shifts." He explained, watching as she followed along curiously. "There's no rush to make your decision yet, but just know that the offer is there."
There was a few moments of silence before Y/n piped up again. "You're meaning to tell me that all this free labour I've doing these past months for you, I could have gotten paid for?" A smile rose to her lips. A real smile. One of which wasn't forced, wasn't plastered on there as she was assuring someone that she was alright. One of which was genuine and came with ease. She hadn't even realise she had done it until the moment passed.
"Is that a yes then?" George quirked a brow.
"Of course it is."
They both took long swigs from their cups, drinking to a new future. "There's a spare room as well. It's above the shop. Might make things easier for you." He added as he placed the cup back down.
"Fred's room?" She questioned as something in her pupils faded.
George took a second before nodding lightly, "Yeah."
"I'll think about it."
With that, George went to get another round of drinks. Then Y/n went after they finished them. A few hours had passed, and before they realised it, their vision was hazy and their words were slurring. Several empty cups were laid out in front of them as the pub fell quiet. By now, groups of people had left and the remaining had simmered down until their voices became background noise.
George was in the middle of a ramble. Something about a new item idea he had. Though, Y/n could barely follow his words, "And of course, the construction of such would be tricky. Though, I know a guy." He went on.
"Oh, you know a guy?" The girl repeated with a small giggle. "Sounds not at all conspicuous."
"It's not, I promise. He's an upstanding citizen!" George defended.
She shook her head and raised her cup towards her lips, "You're digging yourself a hole." She told him before taking a swig.
Y/n found her gaze wandering towards a window. White speckles had started to pat against the glass. At first, she wasn't sure what it had been. Then common sense hit and she matched the bitter air and the declining tempture to such icy specks; it was snowing.
Almost instantly, she stood from her chair. "Y/n?" George inquired, concern woven throughout his tone. "Everything okay?"
She said nothing. Rather, the girl just started walking. A brisk walk towards the exit, leaving George no choice but to follow behind. She lept out from the comforts of the building, finding the cobblestone path glazed in a white drizzle as the darkening sky fell with the snow. She swirled around slightly, her head titled upwards, her doe-eyes seeming full for the first time since Fred's passing.
"This is what made you run out?" George had questioned as he shivered, shoving his hands deep into his pockets. "Snow?"
"Yes, snow." She answered as she came towards him, gently taking a hand and dragging him towards the middle of the street.
He looked down at her in awe, "It's cold." His voice came out as a whisper, battling against the crisp air.
"It usually is when it snows." Her voice too only a whisper.
George felt like he was in a trance and Y/n was his hypnotist. He was ever so captivated and seemed to fall just at her touch. His gaze flickered to her lips. He didn't make a move. He wouldn't. Not when considering the fact that she was still his brother's-
She leaned in. She made a move. She kissed him.
It was sweet and enticing like they could - for a second - forget that black hole which plagued them both.
As years passed, and more kisses were shared, their lives seemed to mould into one. They had the shop, they had the starts of that great Weasley family and their black holes had shrunk to the point where it was only noticeable during such small moments.
There was one Summer when Y/n was seated on their living room floor, their young daughter sat with her. She was at that age when she was beginning to question the things around her. In the midst of her inspecting one of the new toys George was wanting to put on the shelf, all out of the blue, there came a question Y/n had never known how she was going to answer: "Mummy, who's that?"
Y/n glanced up, finding her daughter pointing over at something on the mantlepiece. It was a photograph, one of which her and George had framed and placed there when they first moved in. A picture of her, him and Fred. It had been taken after they finished school, the last time they ever had wear uniform again and Molly had demanded a photo of the three of them.
"That?" Y/n said as her gaze lingered over the memory of Fred. "That's your uncle. You know what an uncle is don't you? Like uncle Chalie and uncle Ron?" She nodded along. "Well that's your uncle Fred."
She looked confused and Y/n wasn't sure if she understood. "Where- Where is he now?" She questioned with bright, curious pupils.
"He's erm-" She paused and thought for a long moment. "He's not around anymore. He passed away, do you understand?" It took a second but the young girl nodded. "He died during that battle. You know the one that me and your dad fought in? He dying fighting for what he believed in." She nodded and like that, like it was only casual conversation, she returned to her toys.
Y/n found her gaze pulled towards the doorway where George had been standing silently. He'd wandered in and stopped when he caught the conversation about Fred. As the two stared at one another, Y/n could only think one thing: At least she and George had found something beautiful hidden within the grief.

The tide is turning and the TQ+ only have themselves to blame
Brits are turning against gender ideology
Ordinary people are swiftly waking up to the threat posed by 'trans rights'.
JO BARTOSCH. 30th September 2023
In news that has left members of the dinner-party set spluttering over their decolonised soya lattes, it turns out the great British public isn’t as bigoted as they fantasised. Published last week, the latest British Attitudes Survey (BAS) has shown that Brits are increasingly tolerant of same-sex relationships and ever-more accepting of sex before marriage or abortion.
But perhaps most tellingly, as attitudes toward sexual morality have become more liberal, attitudes toward transgenderism have become far less sympathetic. The survey shows that the proportion of people who think someone should be able to change the sex on their birth certificate if they want has fallen from 53 per cent in 2019 to 30 per cent today. The proportion of people who ‘describe themselves as not prejudiced at all against people who are transgender’ has also declined from 82 per cent in 2019 to 64 per cent today.
That particular statistic has been taken to mean that there is a rising tide of ‘transphobic’ bigotry. But I see no trace of that in the gender debate or in broader society. More likely, these stats capture the public’s growing concern about policies and ideas associated with transgender ideology, from the erosion of women’s rights to children’s safety.
Predictably, this change in attitudes has been condemned by those who have built their careers on the grievance politics of trans activism. Former Stonewall CEO Nancy Kelley opined on X (formerly Twitter) that ‘years of relentless toxic coverage and political manipulation is making us less tolerant and less supportive of a marginalised community’.
Kelley is just wrong. This attitudinal shift is not prompted by ‘toxic’ reporting or ‘political manipulation’. It’s actually prompted by a greater understanding of ‘transgender issues’. And here Kelley is correct – news coverage has made a difference. It has made us aware of what the cause of trans rights actually entails.
So, as stories like that of double rapist Adam Graham (aka Isla Bryson), a man who was put in a women’s prison, have received column inches in the British press, public opinion has begun to shift. Furthermore, in the face of obvious injustices, such as men triumphing in women’s sporting competitions and winning female-only awards, accusations of ‘transphobia’ have lost their power to silence would-be dissenters. The public is gradually waking up to the reality of transgender ideology and they don’t like it.
Gillian Prior, deputy chief executive at the National Centre for Social Research, which produces the BAS, disagrees. She seems to think the public’s turn against trans rights is evidence of our growing illiberalism. ‘In the case of transgender people’, she said, ‘the recent public debate about the law on gender recognition has appeared to have resulted in attitudes becoming less liberal than they were just a few years ago’. But this completely misunderstands the issues. There is nothing illiberal about not wanting women to give up hard-earned rights and spaces to accommodate the feelings of men who identify as trans.
In fact, the survey shows just how liberal Britain is now. The change in attitudes toward homosexuality has been remarkable and encouraging for those who believe in equality. Over the past 40 years, the proportion of those who think that same-sex relations were ‘always wrong’ has fallen from 50 per cent to just nine per cent.
The cause of LGB rights is very different to that of ‘trans rights’. Gay liberation was a fight to achieve legal parity with heterosexuals. The fight for trans rights is not about fairness or legal parity. It’s about allowing children to be put on experimental, puberty-blocking drugs, advocating for taxpayer-funded cosmetic surgery and, above all, demanding that the rights of other groups, especially women, are infringed upon.
These illiberal and dangerous demands have been pushed by trans activists, not those advocating for LGB rights. As Kate Barker, chief executive officer of LGB Alliance, the only charity advocating exclusively for same-sex attracted people, explains, the battle for equality for gay and lesbian people has largely been won. If there is a growing threat to gay and lesbian rights today, it comes precisely from trans activists.
‘Today, gay men and lesbians are being branded as discriminatory bigots for being attracted exclusively to one sex, their own’, says Barker. ‘This is the result of gender-identity ideology, which promotes the belief that it is valid for some men to “identify” as women and vice versa. Believers in this ideology say it’s “transphobic” for lesbians to rule out all males who “identify as lesbians” as potential sexual partners. It is a bizarre reversal of the prejudice we faced in the Seventies and Eighties.’
So, despite the howls of protestation from trans activists, Britons are not becoming more intolerant. Rather, they are waking up and saying no to an ideology that threatens us all.

My Hero Academia, Chapter 370 Thoughts.
Admittedly, I was very confused by Shoji’s response to the PLF members legitimate complaints about the discriminations that heteromorphs have suffered with a question that is off topic and tone deaf at the best, and deliberately undermining the legitimate suffering that heteromorphs have endured at the worst.
But let’s give Shoji the benefit of the doubt as we discuss his argument and point of view underneath the cut.
However, Shoji’s response reminded me of one of my favorite posts observations made by another tumblr user. @yugiohz on this panel featuring Shigaraki and Deku from the war arc.
Tumblr media
“I love this paneling because it shows the contrast of the character’s world view, deku thinks this conflict only happens on a personal level when shigarki is aware that it’s a systemic one.”
Shoji’s arguments seem arguably tone deaf and oblivious to both the bigger picture that the PLF commander is getting at. The existence of entities like the creature rejection clan, and the atrocities committed against heteromorphs which is apparently, still so prevelant an issue that fifteen thousand people showed up to the riots. So this issue is not only still relevant, but wide affecting.
Tumblr media
So to respond to all of those legitimate questions with the question of why didn’t thiey think of evacuating the hospital first like the heroes did, and the implication that if they didn’t, they are just as bad as the people they are protesting against is just a little bit ignorant. Or maybe a lot of bit.
In all fairness, of course even in a war it’s considered a crime a target full of innocent people uninvolved with the conflict as a part of your battle strategy. From Shoji’s perspective, these people are attacking a hospital full of sick people unable to defend themselves which are unrelated to their grievances against society at large. Even in war times it’s considered taboo to attack people who didn’t sign up for the conflict and are also unable to defend themselves, civilians, sick people, the wounded, children.
t’s fair to point out that it’s wrong to target people who aren’t combatants who signed up for the fight, but at the same time if you point that out it’s also fair to point out it’s the heroes who decided to shelter Kurogiri in the first place. The mob isn’t attacking the hospital of a whim, they’re trying to seize an objective to win a battle against the society they think wronged them, and the heroes are the one who decided in the first place  to hide Kurogiri in a hospital full of innocent civliians. It’s the heroes who knew that this hospital would be attacked hence why they posted guards there, but apparently didn’t evaucate the hospital. So, if we’re splitting hairs here, the split hairs still don’t come out in favor of the heroes.
However, as tone deaf as Shoji’s question comes across, it also resembles a lot of responses his fellow hero students have had whenever they’re face to face with the villains trying to explain how they’ve suffered against hero society.
When Toga tries to explain herself to Uraraka she’s immediately shut down with this argument. That if she chooses to live as she pleases and threatens with people, then there’s also consequences to that.
Tumblr media
As referenced above, when Deku says that he won’t ever forgive Shigaraki, Shigaraki replies with I won’t forgive any of you people. When Dabi tells Shoto about how he tried to come home, but in the end was shown that his family just moved on without him and that he had no replace to return to Shoto responded with this.
Tumblr media
It’s three flavors of the same response. It frames Toya, Toga, Shigaraki, and Spinner + the Mob’s Choices as a whole like they woke up and one day decided to be a villain.
LIke, do Toga and the rest have agency and responsibility to their actions? Yes. THey chose to become violent. They chose to fight. They are still people making choices no matter how driven by their own trauma and they are responsible for those choices. However, there’s a difference between an influenced choice, and a choice made entirely of their own free will.
Here, let me demonstrate. Absoluetly nothing forced Enji to abuse his own family. Enji decided on his own to place his career as a hero above everything else, he decided to arrange a marriage with Rei for the entire purpose of giving birth to a child with a hybrid ice and fire quirk and also ignore his children who didn’t suit that need.
However, Toya had no agency in this choice. He was born into these circumstances. Through no choice of his own, he was born to a father who ignored him the moment his quirk started failing, and a mother who blamed him for the discord of his household for not simply giving up on his quirk training and his attempts to earn his fathers love because she was too afraid to conront her husband. Toya was a helpless child when this happened to him, he’s a fully grown adult now, but when the inciting incident of his trauma happened to him he was as those innocent as those imaginary innocent people that heroes keep parading about as a reason tto not sympathize with the villains.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rei had no choice but to marry Enji because her parents pressured her into it, she became a victim of his abuse, but you know who was even more of a victim? The twelve year old helpless child who was born into these circumstances, who was also completely defenseless at the time. Who’s father ignored him, and mother wasn’t strong enough to protect him, whatever Rei suffered, Toya suffered more and at a much younger age.
Basically every argument the villains make is dismissed with cool motive, still murder”, which is a completely ignorant argument to make when these villains only started choosing violence as an absolute last resort in the first place. Toga did her absolute best to fit despite her parent’s abuse. Toya tried over and over again to please his father, only to be told to shut up by his family. Tenko wanted to be a hero originally, and was beaten by his father, for having the same dream as Deku. Tenko spent days wandering the streets waiting for just one hero to help him after he lost his family. Spinner locked himself up in his room and just wanted to believe he could become someone important like Stain and make a positive change in the world rather than wasting his life.
These arguments are in bad faith, because they’re taking a false equivalence. The villains arguments about how hero society is wrong, because they too, are hurting people in their attempts to change hero society. The thing is twice already completely dismantled the argument that the heroes use to shut down the villains.
Tumblr media
The heroes only care about saving the kind of completely innocent victim who cowers in the face of danger and waits to be saved, if they think of fighting back against their circumstances, or *gasp* lash out in pain like some kind of imperfect victim then the heroes give up on trying to save them. It’s important that Jin brings up Toga’s kindness to him, because Toga is one of the people that Hawks wrote off as someone who can’t be saved, while at the same time trying to save Twice because he considered him “A good person.”
The thing is the moment you start dividing people into categories of who is worthy of being saved, and who isn’t, people are already going to be lost. If the function of heroes are to save people, and they’re not saving a goood chunk of people then they’re not doing their job. Rather than addressing this fact and striving to say more, they just create arguments that are these false equivolencies. Well, this person chose to become violent, so obviously they’re just as bad as their abusers. Well, Dabi chose to kill people in his attempt to discredit Endeavor and expose him as an abuser, so obviously he’s just as bad or even worse.
There’s a difference betweeen saying “I understand your argument but I believe there are better more peaceful ways of solving this issue” and just shutting down the argument, which is what the hero kids are doing over and over again. And this is a common theme in MHA. THat the light of heroes, and the flawless image of heroes is being used over and over again to hide the corruption in society. Nagant brings it up, Shigaraki brings it up, that over and over again the public only sees the good side of heroes while the corruption of society is ignored.
Tumblr media
Yes, it’s bad to hurt innocent people even if you’re trying to use your violence for a good cause to make a better world. People who have nothing to do with it don’t deserve to get dragged into a conflict. However, there’s also this continued pattern of heroes just dismissing the legitimate criticisms of villains outright, because of the faceless imaginary people that are also being caught up in their rebellion against society.
This is why Hawks killed Twice. Hawks had to kill Twice, because of the imaginary body count of innocent people who might have been hurt with his quirk. The heroes continually have to put down the heroes in favor of there imaginary innocent people that they might be hurting, Uraraka even says that she has to look at the destruction wrought by the league of villains to stop herself from sympathizing with Toga.
Tumblr media
But once again, this innocent / guilty dichotomy is a made up false dichotomy. When exactly does a person stop being innocent? What actions do they have to perform where they are no longer worthy of sympathy? Quantify it. What is the point of no return? At what exact moment do they stop being a victim and become a villain instead?
Think of the people who joined Spinner’s mob in support of Heteromorph discrimmination? They were innocent victims of what is a thinly veiled allegory for racism. They did absolutely nothing to earn the ire of the people around them. Are they now guilty because they decided to fight back against it? Is their action to riot against the issue, to try to draw attention to their suffering what makes them now guilty? Is the only way to remain innocent to just shut up and endure it, and never fight back no matter what happens to you?
To return to the argument made at the start, it really does seem like that kids are equating what is a personal conflict with what is happening on a societal wide scale. The perspective of the hero kids is almost like, even in the middle of what is called the first and second war arc, where they are fighting a battle over the way society should be run, that somehow this is just standard hero vs. villain in the conflict. That the good guys are infallible and the bad guys are always violent and they are because they decide to be. However, the villains are fighting back against a society that has wronged them. It’s a difference in perspective that damns any attempts for heroes and villains to understand each other.
The kids aren’t facing the injustice of society, the kids aren’t fighting for survival, for them this is another hero vs. villain battle. They defeat the bad guys, and the good guys win.
Tumblr media
It’s a conflict fought between two sides who are occupying completely differnt positions of power and privileges'. It’s a personal conflict for the kids, they are fighting against villains who have personally hurt them and all of their friends, SHigaraki is someone who maimed Grant Torino in front of Deku, and led attacks on his friends several times. However, at the same time Shigaraki was wronged by hero society several times, an argument that Deku pretty conveniently ignores because he’s never lived that experience or been subjected to it. He’s allowed to keep it a personal conflict, because he’s not subject to societal rejection the way Shigaraki is.
Even if the kids think that human life is so sacred that no matter what you can’t take a life, even if you have a legitimate cause like fighting for a better society, the kids refuse to apply their rules fairly. Shoji yells at the crowd for attacking a hospital full of innocents, but what about the death of Twice? If villains are bad and beyond redemption because they have killed, then why is Hawks still allowed to be a hero? If the villains have to think about the people they hurt as a part of their conflict, then why hasn’t a single hero kid even mentioned twice?
This is what I mean by injustice. It’s okay to be disgusted by murder, human life is sacred and should always be protected, murder is a serious crime, but these rules aren’t being applied fairly. Hawks can commit the same murder and compeltely get away with it, because he’s considered one of the good guys.
Tumblr media
The kids aren’t so digusted by any murder that they can’t tolerate any injustice, they’re just repeated the same values that they’ve always been taught, heroes good and villains bad. They are drawing the same line on who is worthy of saving  and who is not worthy.
Which is why this chapter is so sad, it illsutrates that Shoji and Spinner have suffered the same way as being prejdugiced against by hero society, and forced to hide because they are heteromorphs. So, why are they fighting in the first place? If they are both vicrtimized why does one of them have to be the good cictim and the bad victim? If they are both suffering similarily can’t they come to some understanding and work together, rather than fighting against each other? Isn’t it tremednously sad that Shoji had to fight against several heteromorphs who have suffered the same as he as, and defend the society that has outcast him and fored him to wear a mask his entire. Shouldn’t there be a better way then just Shoji putting down the rebellion of fellow heteormoprhs and then society continuing on the same way as it always has? Couldn’t they work together?
I don’t really have an ending to this post, so I’m going to close out with a quote from Frankenstein which I believe is relevant to this topic at large.
“You, who call Frankenstein your friend, seem to have a knowledge of my crimes and his misfortunes. But in the detail which he gave you of them he could not sum up the hours and months of misery which I endured wasting in impotent passions. For while I destroyed his hopes, I did not satisfy my own desires. They were for ever ardent and craving; still I desired love and fellowship, and I was still spurned. Was there no injustice in this? Am I to be thought the only criminal, when all humankind sinned against me? Why do you not hate Felix, who drove his friend from his door with contumely? Why do you not execrate the rustic who sought to destroy the saviour of his child? Nay, these are virtuous and immaculate beings! I, the miserable and the abandoned, am an abortion, to be spurned at, and kicked, and trampled on. Even now my blood boils at the recollection of this injustice.”

i mean, just because a group is so mad a subset of it gets organized into a gang of extremely violent asshats doesn't necessarily mean that you could stop that subset from organizing by being more conciliatory towards their parent group. like, the tulsa race massacre couldn't have been stopped by the US being *more* white supremacist.
and yes, those aren't the same thing, totally different power balances, one side had nothing whatsoever to legitimately complain about, sure, sure, i agree. i still think it's kinda silly to say terrorists, be they in the right or not, can always be stopped by placation.
How and why do you think terrorist groups appear in the first place? The IRA appeared because when Northern Irish Catholics tried to protest unfair treatment, the British army shot the protesters. The ETA appeared because Francoist Spain banned minority languages and tried to suppress minority cultures. The LTTE was motivated by Sinhalese mob violence against Sri Lankan Tamils.
These sorts of terrorist groups do not spring out of the ether motivated by unknowable grievances! Very frequently, they are specifically a reaction to political progress by any other means being stymied. You don’t have to “placate” them, but you cannot destroy them so long as you refuse to engage with the underlying problem in the first place.
Israeli soldiers could kill every member of Hamas tomorrow, and some group would probably arise to fill in the vacuum, because Palestinians are denied meaningful self-determination, and are subject to harassment and arbitrary arrest and torture. Hamas sucks, sure, but that’s the risk you run when you try to destroy civil society among an oppressed group—all the options for politics expression are going to by definition be extremist!
I don’t know what the analogy you’re trying to draw with white supremacy in the US here is. It seems hopelessly confused. White supremacists weren’t a marginalized interest group in US politics in the first half of the 20th century. They were the dominant mainstream. The US is in fact extraordinarily lucky the civil rights movement had a large and successful nonviolent component, but the whole reason that was possible had to do with a pretty rare confluence of circumstances that don’t easily translate to other similar conflicts.

Holding a view that does not subscribe to critical race theory is a protected characteristic under equality laws, a judge has ruled in what is believed to be a legal first in the UK.
Sean Corby, an employee of the government’s workplace conciliation service Acas, took the organisation to an employment tribunal after bosses ordered him to remove comments that he posted on social media that were critical of Black Lives Matter (BLM).
Corby had written that critical race theory, an ideology that believes racism is entrenched in society and which is at the heart of the BLM movement, is divisive because it portrays white people as racist.
Tumblr media
[ Corby argued that Martin Luther King’s methods of confronting racism in society were better than those of Black Lives Matter ]
He argued that a better approach to addressing racism in society was to follow the approach of Martin Luther King, who said we should aspire to a day when people would be judged by the content of their character rather than the colour of their skin.
Corby made the comments on Yammer, a workplace social media platform.
Some of Corby’s colleagues complained to Acas’ management that the comments were offensive and brought a grievance case against him. They claimed that he was “using the Yammer platform to promote racist ideas” and suggested he could be member of a far-right group. They also said they would not feel safe to be “in contact with him” and questioned his right to be employed by Acas.
Acas dismissed their complaints, but instructed Corby to remove the posts on the grounds that employees had found them offensive.
Corby has taken Acas to an employment tribunal, claiming he had been unlawfully discriminated against and his views were protected under the Equalities Act in the same way as his colleagues’ views on critical race theory. Religion or belief are among nine protected characteristics under the Equalities Act.
The Free Speech Union, which has supported Corby in his case against Acas, said his colleagues had wrongly tried to silence him.
Acas defended its decision to instruct him to remove his social media posts, arguing that what he was posting were only opinions, rather than beliefs and were subsequently not protected under the Equalities Act.
Employment Judge Kirsty Ayre, presiding over the case in Leeds in a three-day hearing earlier this month, ruled in Corby’s favour on the basis that he had given his beliefs careful consideration and much thought.
Tumblr media
[ Corby said his beliefs on race are rooted in the ideas of Howard Thurman, above, and “others who railed against segregation and separatism” ]
As a result, she said his comments opposing Black Lives Matter and critical race theory fall under the “religion or belief” section of the Equalities Act. The ruling paves the way for the tribunal to consider in April whether Corby was unlawfully discriminated against by Acas.
It is believed to be the first time a judge has ruled that holding a contrary view to critical race theory is a protected characteristic under equality laws.
“Colleagues who’d never met me and knew nothing about me or my life targeted me and called me a racist. This caused me a great deal of distress,” Corby said.
“My beliefs on race are rooted in the ideas of Howard Thurman and others who railed against segregation and separatism, as well as in my personal experience. I grew up with black people, was immersed in their culture and dedicated my life to music and education. I have also experienced bigotry from white and black people in various forms and on many occasions. It is reprehensible of anyone to seek to divide us along lines of colour or to try and bully anti-racists like me into silence.
“I’m delighted we have made a stand and taken a step to embedding a in the workplace a more conciliatory and harmonious approach to dealing with issues around race.”
Toby Young, general secretary of the Free Speech Union, said the case was “a significant victory for the cause of freedom of speech” in the UK.
He added: “Sean’s belief that we should judge people on the content of their character rather than the colour of their skin is eminently sensible and shared by most people, save for a handful of far-right and far-left activists. His employer should not have taken seriously the vexatious complaints of Sean’s colleagues, who claimed that his quoting Martin Luther King made them feel ‘unsafe’.”
An Acas spokesman said: “We take pride in having a diverse workforce and have noted the tribunal’s decision on one aspect of this case that is set to conclude next year. We value Acas staff having a voice and our regular staff surveys continue to show that Acas is an inclusive organisation.”

Oh here's a fun thing to think about -- LLH and JLQ as narrative foils for each other, revolving around DFS as a central focal point.
A list of things about them both and where they differ in approach and result:
both nanyin royalty (cousins) - one is aware and grows up suffering - rescued by DFS when she's 14 yrs old. Spends the rest of her teenage years looking up to him and then following him around. LLH is not aware and also grows up suffering but is rescued while still a child by martial arts teachers. Spends his teen years looking up to Shan Gudao and following him around.
also this post about their clothes by @difeisheng
DFS throws LLH into a snake pit to try to heal him. He also throws JLQ into a cave of her prisoners with intent to kill her. NEITHER WORK.
both both started their own sect:
LLH creates Sigu Sect with Shan Gudao (whom he loves and looks up to) to create order in a chaotic society. Then he tried to abandon it. JLQ went from controlling the sect of the man she loves and looks up to --- then steps sideways into wanting to be king herself, because why not? End goal of both is to have power and control over others but with different approaches in the 'how'.
Sigu Sect being at the beginning of their organization's life span at least attempts to stick with their original intent of helping the downtrodden with grievances. However, as can be seen with the revival of the sect- it only takes one incomplete generation for the veneer to be stripped free and that intent to be corrupted.
JLQ doesn't bother with ideals masking her intentions. She wants the castle, the wife, the power. She wants it all and she says it up front.
both start off will to do anything under the sun to remain at the side of the one they care about the most - only to switch their desires later on:
LLH starts off doing everything under the sun, including destroying two sects and going to war, to find the body of his beloved shixiong. He continues this thread of behavior later with DFS to get him to help, though he's far softer now and less likely to go to mortality level measures.
These are all things SGD wouldn't want LLH to do because he hates him. Then as the story develops, begins to repeatedly seek out DFS (why hasn't he come to look for me yet? Let's look for him.) or try to keep DFS nearby (amnesia arc is an exercise in trying to gently maintain his hold on DFS as long as possible but FDB and events put a stop to that).
JLQ starts off masterminding a war to destroy her competition and ensure the man she loves will be number 1 in the world. She continues this thread later, continuing to manipulate things behind the scenes to maintain power - arguably to use to benefit DFS and not against him.
The lengths she goes to is everything DFS would not want done because he hates the underhandedness. As the story develops, she switches to chaining DFS to her side instead of trying to convince him to willingly go to her.
In the end, LLH lets DFS go, walking away from him. Meanwhile in her end, JLQ watches DFS walk away from her.
both repeatedly lie to and betray DFS:
LLH breaks the treaty, wipes out a good chunk of Jinyuan Alliance in a sect battle, very nearly succeeds in killing DFS and partially disabling him (it takes 10 years and a magic potion for him to fully recover), lies repeatedly to his face, essentially soft kidnaps/blackmails him to force him to help him do a thing.
JLQ tries to kill 2 birds with one stone by poisoning her love rival + ensure DFS will win their anticipated duel, sets up a whole battle plan that would wipe out almost all of DFS' sect leadership, coopts a good chunk of Jinyuan Alliances' men and resources to form her own sect, kidnaps DFS to force him into being her wife.
DFS seems to either not take offense, or just outright forgives LLH of everything. DFS ignores/turns a blind eye to much of what JLQ does at first but ultimately kills her for her actions.
both attack DFS at a moment of his triumph, poisons him, removes his chi, and kidnaps him:
Immediately after DFS fully regains his power and health with the guanyin elixir, LLH reveals he attacked him to poison him with a chi-removing poison. Then essentially blackmails him into an extended roadtrip (kidnaps/'chains' him to stay at his side). Clothes and feeds him.
Immediately after gaining full bodily autonomy and receiving all the things that will solve LLH's problems in his hands, JLQ poisons him to reduce his power, works with Shan Gudao to attack and immobilize him, cuts his tendons, destroys his meridians so he can no longer access his chi, then kidnaps him to torture and literally chains him to her side to force him to stay with her. Threatens with more and further improved chains. Chains everywhere. In the novel he's naked. In the drama, he's got a symbolic under layer on.
DFS takes to LLH's methods far more than he does to JLQ for obvious reasons, but it's interesting to note that while their pattern of behavior is similar, their methods are violently different (literally). LLH's asura grass is non-lethal and removable without permanent damage. All his methods are very soft and unusually careful considering how durable DFS is. JLQ doesn't care if she damages DFS forever as long as he's under her control.
LLH wants DFS to buy into obedience/being under his control and is also aware he'll never be able to fully control him, and that DFS will absolutely say no and mean it -- he also doesn't fuss about having to do extra convincing/put in extra work to get him to continue to buy in.
JLQ wants DFS' willingness too, but can't figure out a way to get it without using extreme force, and doesn't like that DFS is not controllable and likely will never be fully controllable without destroying everything it means to be him. She doesn't like it when he says no.
Conclusion: LMAO it's in their dna. In a way, maybe it's good their families are dead. Cuz imagine the chaos of the older brother or the parents catching sight of DFS if this is the natural reaction to him?
