So I had planned on a lavender infusion for @graveyarddirt's May 2022 Hagging Out, as I've been ill recently and totally depleted my existing stash, but something happened this year that I've never seen before so things changed! I have a sweet lilac bush that lives up to the color that shares its name. For the time I've known it, it has been healthy although not overly profuse with its blooms.
Suddenly, this year, it bloomed oh so well! But it bloomed a pure white
Tumblr media
My whole plan completely deviated upon encountering the white blossoms, so I've infused with honey. It's my first honey infusion! My friend has a hive he helps maintain so I source my honey from him. I just bring a jar and he fills it up, he's a very good man. But anyways on to the infusing! (please excuse my tomatoes in the background, they snuck in and I didn't notice them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gathered on Saturn's day and hour with praise and thanks, and bottled during Jupiter's hour.
I nearly didn't have enough honey, but I made it! It's been sitting for a week or so and is almost ready to share in offering to the Queen whom I have recently begun to walk with.
In the dooryard fronting an old farm-house, near the white-wash’d palings,
Stands the lilac-bush, tall-growing, with heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
With many a pointed blossom, rising, delicate, with the perfume strong I love,
With every leaf a miracle — and from this bush in the dooryard,
With delicate-color’d blossoms and heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
A sprig with its flower I break.
—Walt Whitman

they only made two movies for men. SAD. oh well
#i accidentally clicked on a video from the joe rogan experience.#i legitimately do want to know how soooo many men walked away from fight club with such a terrible misunderstanding of it#theres literally so much more to it than the ten or so minutes of brad pitt monologuing about individuality and consumerism and identity.#LOL!#something can def be said about both fc & dps on white men + the inherent homoeroticism of movies centering them + the exploration of#masculinity & expectations and how theyre dealt with in pretty different communities (upper class teens in the 50s at a private school v#working class men in the 90s in the city) the similarities + differences btwn how their world perspectives were shaped by being upper/lower#class Cis White Men#**ok i doubt every single guy in fight club is white but still. the leads are + theyre all men#blah blah stuff they as men are told about power & the kind of treatment + lives they deserve#not to mention the fact both stories are abt men finding an outlet via a super secret boys only club#but in one they lean more into femininity(?)/the arts while in the other they lean into masculinity(?)/violence LOL#healthy/nonhealthy means of expression respectively. what is the cause and effect of each of them what led them to that point blah blah#also lastly something worth mentioning -- the role WOMEN play in their stories. oft only as mothers or romantic/sexual appeal#LASTLY lastly the fact both movies end in a similar but opposite way - the leader of fight club wants to STOP all the chaos hes brought so#he shoots himself - but that doesnt stop everything. v the leader of the dead poets society is threatened w military school -#masculinization - when its discovered hes been exploring the arts so he also shoots himself and the dps is shut down by external forces .#HM#did not mean to write a whole essay in the notes but alright#im not gonna proof read it send post#fight club#dead poets society#cowboy posts

things i noticed/thoughts about most recent rewatches of dps (plus laserdisk deleted scenes):
whenever theres a group scene i've started watching the characters that the story isn't focusing on to see what they do and i've been having a fun time with that. pitts and cameron specifically seem to almost always be doing something interesting in the background.
hopkins!!!! my favorite minor character who somehow got character development despite having like 2 lines!!!! the last guy to stand on the desk but he did it!!!
sometimes i do like to think about what the rest of the students thought about the dead poets society, esp in alternate timeline neil lives dps keeps meeting universe. like yeah theres this guy in their class whose one of the most credited students in the school and we think he maybe started a cult. idk though. but that group runs out into the woods every few days to do god knows what and one of them keeps talking about "dead poets honor" whatever that means and holy shit welton star student neil perry started a cult.
i watched the movie with headphones. and maybe it's because ive seen this movie Far too many times and mabe i'm listening too hard but it was Really obvious sometimes when audio was added in post production. llke in the sweaty toothed madman scene when you can hear laughing and to be fair the camera is behind their heads. but it does Not look like anyone's laughing. my favorite is at the end of the phone call to chris scene where knox is like i'm gonna seize the day!! and runs up the stairs and the poets are cheering him on and neil is sort of yelling "carpe!!!!" and i could be wrong but i'm like 75% certain that the person singing is Also rsl so now neil is just speaking two times at once somehow. anyways it didn't ruin the experience for me or anything it was maybe just a little bit funny to notice but very sorry if this did ruin anyone's viewing.
people talk a lot about how rsl and ethan hawke really made their characters what they are but i have to add dylan kussman to that list. I get the impression that older versions of the movie didn't really give as much depth to cameron and watching dylan kussmans performance is like. he Knew who his character was so fucking well and it shows!! like the deleted scene of them getting clubs assigned. like i could tell So Much about cameron from that scene
for how little she actually appeared, there is an emphasis put on the fact that neil's mom smokes pretty frequently. and i think that's interesting considering neil is one of two poets shown actively smoking. neil's mom doesn't appear for very long in the movie but during that time it definitely seems like the movie is intentionally making parallels between the two, particularly in the last argument with neil's father. neil and his mother are both sitting for almost the whole time, which contrasts with his father who is standing. they are both almost powerless in this scene. they stand up at almost the same time. anyways there's a couple different possibilities for what this could mean? that i've though of? 1. to show that neil's mother is in a similar situation to the one neil is in in regards to neil's father and 2. maybe a stretch here but the theory that neil inherited his mental illness at least partially from his mother. i'm pretty sure 1 was fully intentional on the directors part, not entirely sure about 2 though
unmanned flying desket scene: it's probably cause he and ethan wrote the scene themselves but the way rsl talks in this scene feels more like the way he talks in general than the rest of the script. like briefly neil perry is talking in rsl's voice. one of my absolute favorite scenes though the sarcastic dialogue is so good.
the light of knowledge at the first shot of the film vs. todd standing on his desk at the last shot of the film paralel

I don't know how to really express this except to come across as a "kids these days" scold, but so much of the criticism of queerness in Good Omens would simply not be a thing if kids these days watched more 20th century queer media. Or more complex indie queer media in general.
People seem to want a show that's like the straight stories they grew up with but gay. Or the gay fanfiction they grew up with. But that's not really the tradition it's coming from. First off the novel was released in 1990. Queer film classics of the time are Dead Poet's Society (1989) and Torch Song Trilogy (1988). The TV miniseries Tales of the City (1993) wasn't made until 3 years later and it was so far out there it never had a huge audience. Philadelphia (1993) is also 3 years out and was basically the first big studio queer film. The first fluffy queer Hallmark-style romcom wasn't until Big Eden in 2000, a full 10 years after publication.
Queer stories from the time it was written were about complex and often fraught relationships between people who the world was trying to force apart. There is an incredibly strong tradition in queer films of relationships with no guarantees they will work out both in the face of their personal baggage and the weight of the world. Take a film like Torch Song Trilogy that's about the two great loves of Arnold Beckoff's life over 9 years and how homophobia shapes them. Both externally (especially Allen) and internally like Ed struggling with his bisexuality and being terrified of being publicly out. Written and starred in by Harvey Fierstein, who identified as a gay man at the time and only came out as nonbinary last year.
The Boys In The Band (1968 play, filmed 1970 and 2020) was a monumental moment in Broadway history where finally there was a play about gay men in their own words where no one died and very strongly showed that homosexuality doesn't make people miserable but homophobia sure does. But that homophobia also throws their personal lives into constant turmoil and none of them are in happy relationships, although Hank and Larry are devoted to each other in their own fucked up way.
"Relationships are complicated and hard to make work and sometimes a struggle against the odds" is an aesthetic of classic queer film making. Partly it was influenced by the Hays Code (although independent films were not bound to it), partly influenced by the rampant queerphobia in society at the time that was inescapable. But it's also an aesthetic choice to resist the banal and unrealistic relationship depictions of straight media. There are actual stakes to the relationship. Queer people were actively resisting a world that said "Romance is seeing someone across the room and instantly falling in love with each other and little conflicts happen along the way but ultimately they're destined to be together and everything is happily ever after." Recall that "stalking as romance" was a completely inescapable trope in 1980s straight romance films, and every goddamn movie was being turned into a romance film.
So queer people in film and television when they can make what they please have a long tradition of saying instead "People don't always realize the feelings they've developed for a queer partner right away. They may have reasons for denying those feelings that are both a reflection of the cruelty in society and of their own insecurities. People struggle with where they belong and their relationships reflect that. Loving someone doesn't mean they don't also drive you crazy and you might fight with them constantly. But that doesn't negate the love or that feeling that even if things aren't okay, they're better with that person around. But maybe that person can't stay around. The world may be against you. And also maybe you don't just want that one person in your life. Soulmates is a very flawed model. Sometimes the strongest love is a struggle with yourself and the world and your person. You have to overcome yourself first. Happily ever after is a lie. You may be happy for a while, and hopefully for a long while, but everything ends. And you have to be ready to love again. Also your platonic bonds are just as important and life-altering as your romantic ones. Sometimes those platonic bonds include fucking if you want them to. Real life isn't a bunch of platitudes and world-altering moments, it's daily work to better yourself and the world around you. Especially when things just fucking suck. But also remember to have fun and fuck the haters. People who don't support you can eat rocks and you should yell at them more to shut the fuck up."
That is a fundamentally different outlook on what a "good relationship depiction" looks like. Personally, I thought I hated romance movies and then I started watching queer romance movies and discovered I love them and watch them all the time. Because it turns out what I hated was relationships being shown that had nothing at all to do with reality and privileged incredibly toxic ideals. Finally there was complexity, there were stakes, and there were people who had to truly want to be together enough to fight the world for it and not because they happened to be there. There were people actually talking out their problems and looking for resolutions. (And sometimes that resolutions was "I can't fucking deal with this bullshit anymore and I'm out.") For the first time it felt real.
I'm an aroace trans gay man. Nothing about relationships or being in relationships has come easy to me, and the whole paradigm of straight patriarchal romance depictions makes absolutely no sense to me. It's completely alien. Queer romance stories actually feel human.
And that's the tradition Good Omens is coming from, even as it's being retold in 2019-2023 and hopefully beyond. Gaiman's work has always been based in that queer media paradigm. (I've been remiss and daunted and haven't read Pratchett but from what I do know his work also seems to sit more in that world view.) It's a beautiful cinematic tradition and it's baffling to me that people would resist it instead of embracing it for being honest.
And that's when I turn into a crotchety old man complaining about the youth not connecting with the history of their beautiful culture and instead begging for assimilation into a shithole allocishet media landscape that doesn't actually want them except for their money and has nothing at all interesting or valuable to say. But it's very funny (annoying) to me when people claim Good Omens is someone against queer culture when it's so thoroughly bathed in the best of queer media's storytelling traditions and what people are asking for is straight media with the serial numbers filed off. Like, stop being boring please and know literally anything about the culture the adults in the room lived through and were influenced by. The world didn't begin in 2015.
EDIT: I also want to add that in straight media arcs are linear. Traditionally in queer media arcs are cyclical. Queer media very often depicts people going around in circles relearning the same lesson over and over as they inch towards it sinking in. But every time they go through the cycle they gain just a little bit more enlightenment and slowly move towards a better place. From the comments this is an immensely important distinction. People don't actually have cathartic moments where suddenly all their past bad programming is shed and they saunter forward a new person with none of their old baggage. In reality people fall into the same patterns over and over even though they have had every opportunity to learn better. "People magically get better" is a trope of straight media that's an outright and frankly dangerous lie. Again, Good Omens follows the queer tradition not the straight one and it's depicted 6,000 years of that cycle. The world didn't end, and the wheel keeps turning, as it always has and always will. That's so fundamental to queer storytelling traditions I forgot to even mention it.

“under the neon glow” - charlie dalton
summary: charlie convinces y/n to sneak out
paring: charlie dalton x gender neutral reader
word count: 1.1k
Tumblr media
Y/N knew they were pushing their luck being in Charlie’s room so late at night, but Cameron was on a rare trip home and the couple would be stupid to pass up the opportunity.
And what an opportunity it was.
Y/N and Charlie were tangled up with each other in his small bed, the boy leaving a trail of kisses from Y/N’s lips to their neck.
“Don’t you dare give me a hickey, Dalton,” Y/N’s voice was stern, but there was a smile teasing their lips and they made no move to make him stop.
Charlie blew a raspberry into their neck before lightly sinking his teeth into the soft skin, “I wouldn’t dream of it, sweets.”
Y/N held back a squeal as best as they could—they didn’t want to take any risks to make this night end. They softly grabbed Charlie’s face and led his lips back to theirs.
“We should go somewhere,” Charlie mumbled against their lips.
“You’re joking, right?” Y/N laughed, breaking the kiss.
Charlie smiled, a mischievous glint in his eye—one that Y/N knew very well.
“Why not?”
Y/N mocked a thoughtful look, “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because your partner is currently in your bed, and your roommate isn’t here to barge in on us?”
“You know I’d never let him stop me.”
“You’re disgusting, Charlie,” the smile on Y/N’s face took any bite out of their words.
“Come on Y/N, live a little.”
“If we get caught—“
Charlie expertly untangled himself from Y/N and crawled over them and out of the bed before they could even finish their thought. He had thrown on a sweater and had one shoe on before Y/N even made it to a sitting position.
One of Charlie’s sweatshirts gently smacked them in the face and fell into their lap as they moved to pick their own shirt up off the floor.
“Really?”
Charlie feigned innocence, “I wouldn’t want you to catch a cold, Y/N.”
Y/N rolled their eyes at the boy, but pulled the sweater on nonetheless. It was one Y/N had their eye on for a while—oversized, a soft fabric of their favorite color, and (most importantly) it smelled of Charlie.
They were both aware he wouldn’t be getting it back any time soon.
“Where are we even going?”
“You’ll see,” Charlie pressed a chaste kiss to their lips before pulling them toward the door, “you’re going to love it.”
_________________________________________
Thanks to the dead poets society, the couple had become experts at sneaking away from Welton in the dead of the night. In mere minutes, Charlie had hijacked Knox’s bike, and Y/N was perched behind him on the seat as he pedaled toward town.
Y/N always felt so free when they were with Charlie. Tonight was no different—Y/N’s heart was soaring as they wrapped their arms tighter around his torso and felt the wind blowing through their hair.
Charlie was going much faster than he should have been with two people on the bike, and they arrived at their destination much faster than Y/N would have liked. Steadying themselves with their hands on Charlie’s hips, they maneuvered off the back of the bike. A bright neon sign buzzed lowly through the window in front of the bike rack.
OPEN 24/7
Charlie wrapped his arms around Y/N from behind, pressing a kiss just below their ear and murmuring, “Hungry?”
They turned their head to meet his lips, “Starved.”
He moved in front of them, opening the door and beckoning them through.
“Such a gentleman.”
“One of the last living few.”
Charlie took Y/N’s hand and led them to a booth in the corner. A bored looking waitress dropped off two menus that Charlie promptly pushed aside and ignored until she circled back around.
“What’ll you two have?” The waitress drolled.
“A basket of fries and a chocolate malt,” Charlie winked at Y/N, “two straws.”
The waitress didn’t bother to say anything, walking away once she wrote down the order.
Y/N raised their brow at the boy sitting across from them. Charlie simply smirked back.
“You trying to live out your Archie comics fantasy?”
“I wouldn’t correct you if you called me Archie for the rest of the night.”
Y/N hummed as they tapped their chin, pretending to inspect the boy’s features.
“You look more like a Jughead,” Y/N tisked, “my view from here, at least.”
Charlie held a hand over his heart and dramatically leaned forward in his seat, “I think you need a closer look.”
Y/N scooted closer to the window as Charlie moved around the table and slid into the booth next to them. He wrapped his arm around their waist and pulled them away from the window and into his side.
“How about now?”
“I think your main character syndrome is kicking in, Archie,” Y/N teased.
“Aren’t I though?” Charlie grinned. “Breaking out of prison to have a night out on the town with the most exquisite creature I’ve ever laid eyes on? Sounds like a main character to me.”
“Oh,” Y/N scoffed, “so you get to be the main character, but I’m a creature?”
“An exquisite one, Y/N.”
“You are so—“
Y/N was cut off by the waitress unceremoniously placing their fries and malt on the table in front of them. She pulled two straws out of her apron and not-so subtly rolled her eyes at the couple as she tossed them on the table. Charlie stopped the straws from rolling off as she turned and walked away.
“This diner has a Michelin star, did you know?”
Y/N burst into a fit of giggles as he blew the straw paper at their chest.
Charlie beamed at Y/N and popped a couple fries in his mouth. They fell into a comfortable silence as Y/N sipped on the malt.
Charlie moved to take a drink of the malt, but quickly darted his head to the side to press a kiss to Y/N’s cheek just as his lips were about to meet the straw. Y/N pulled back from their straw, gently grasping Charlie’s chin and pulling him in for a soft kiss.
“Can I tell you something?” Y/N blurted out as they pulled away.
“I’ve never stopped you before,” Charlie grinned, “don’t plan on starting now.”
“I think I’m in love with you.” Y/N’s cheeks flushed and their pulse quickened despite their best efforts to calm themselves.
“Well, I know I’m in love with you,” Charlie kissed Y/N again as relief flooded their system, “it’s a main character thing.”

Thinking about how the Big Four of dark academia really feels like the Big Three of dark academia that a last-minute addition was added onto, not because it’s any less a part of and representative of the aesthetic but because its mood and message differs so greatly from the other three - that last-minute addition being Dead Poets Society. Hear me out as I rant about character types, classism, doing it for the aesthetic, themes, tones, and substance abuse (and, obviously, spoiler warnings for Dead Poets Society, The Secret History, If We Were Villains, and Kill Your Darlings):
Firstly, I want to draw comparisons between who I consider to be the protagonists of each story, focusing a lot on how I feel that each of them has a barrier between himself and another group of people within the story. Starting with the one that I relate to the most and progressing in no organisational order after that, we have from The Secret History Richard Papen, an English major who came from an impoverished old town in California to the lovely little college in Hampden, Vermont on account of loads and loads of scholarships. Fascinated and a bit infatuated with the Greek class, he is able through partly his own talent but mostly dumb luck to join their ranks, only to find out that the people he admired and romanticised are all a bunch of classist, selfish, rich addicts. Desperately wanting to be a part of this group, Richard has to break the financial barrier (as well as the seclusion engineered by Julian) between him and them in order to get in with the “cool kids.” However, this doesn’t work out for him at the end, as he doesn’t even get invited to their bacchanal or Bunny’s murder and yet has to suffer for the fallout of both events. It’s made clear that this is not the kind of life you want to live, and Richard even returns to California after the main body of the book concludes. Allen Ginsberg of Kill Your Darlings is confronted with a similar barrier, although his is less financial (he’s well-off enough to make it to college without scholarships) and more the sort of subcultural difference between the life he left at home and how Lu and his friends live. Just like Richard, he risks and loses it all to gain the affection of this new group, who, just like in TSH, leave him high and dry in the end. Oliver Marks also risks it all for his group in If We Were Villains, although they don’t necessarily abandon him in the same sense and really he alienates himself by taking the fall for Richard (Stirling)’s death. His barrier is also mainly financial, as he ends up having to pay for Dellecher through scholarships and a work-study deal, something which you can tell he is ashamed about (hmm classicism -_-) as he tries to hide it from the rest of the group, who can all afford the school on their own (or their families can). Since this story differs from the rest because it starts off with Oliver already a part of the tightly-knit group, you can’t really talk about him vying for approval as in TSH or Kill Your Darlings, but the sense of him being a part of a slightly different world is still there. Meanwhile, you don’t get this same sense in DPS. I maintain that Neil is the central figure in DPS, but for the sake of this let’s look at Todd, who does have to make his way into the group after it was already formed. Todd’s barrier is not financial but all in his own head: his social anxiety and awkwardness prevents him from initiating a relationship with any of the other Dead Poets. Because he has this different kind of barrier, it’s easier for him to overcome it, and it turns out well for him in the end, while it doesn’t for the protagonists of the other three stories.
Besides that, the other characters also play a role in how DPS feels separate from the other three. All four dark academia stories are about rich kids at their core, but DPS is the only one that doesn’t feel like it’s about rich kids. Why is that? I think it’s because of how they chose to present the characters. In TSH, the whole main cast, essentially, sucks - Henry is full of it, Bunny has all sorts of problems, Charles is an abusive drunkard, not to mention his incestuous relationship with Camilla, and Francis knows about this relationship and is fine with it, even being fine to casually fuck Charles on top of it (and he’s classist as fuck, but that’s a discussion for a later date). You might think, “oh, but Richard isn’t too bad” - yeah, but he did let them all get away with not one but two murders and was only worried about Charles abusing and fucking Camilla because he felt attraction to Camilla himself, so. Anyway, my point is that everyone in the Greek class is either a rich asshole or wants to be like the rich assholes, so that’s not good. There’s a similar thing in Kill Your Darlings where they’re all addicts and alcoholics and people who generally don’t give a fuck about how other people react to their drama and fun times, and you can see how Lu even uses David and later Allen and then throws them both away casually. Yeah, they have a cool vision of revolutionising poetry, but they’re not really characters that one can necessarily relate to, because they’re all just too caught up in themselves. IWWV, too - you don’t see this as much, but it comes out a bit when Oliver hides in shame the fact that he has to work to pay for school. While IWWV has a cast of characters that I can relate to and like the most out of the three I’ve talked about so far, there’s still a little bit of disconnect, an unattainability about them, and it’s clear that they’re all deeply fucked: Richard, before he died, was an abusive asshole, James killed Richard and then not only started mirroring him a bit when he hurt Oliver but then let Oliver while away ten years of his life in prison for Richard’s death (and either killed himself or faked his death), Alexander got even worse into drugs and then presumably got clean but man did he have PTSD from that school year, Meredith is surrounded by men lusting after her and feels lonely, Wren also has PTSD from that school year, and Filippa . . . got into a relationship with her teacher and we don’t talk about this? So while they’re three-dimensional, engaging, and entertaining, they’re all still just plain messed up. However, the Dead Poets aren’t like this. Obviously, there’s Neil’s suicide, but that’s different - it’s not messed up because he was already messed up, it’s messed up because the authority figures in his life (excluding Keating) messed him up themselves, breaking his spirit with the pressure they put on him and with the criticism of his passion. But to the point, in the sense of the characterisation of the main cast, DPS feels different from the other three because the Dead Poets are three-dimensional, engaging, entertaining, and even likeable in a way that the characters from the other three are not. And they’re all rich enough to attend a very well-to-do private boarding school, but they’re not stuck-up and classist, in fact hardly ever bringing up matters of money and even making fun of the Danburrys a bit. They feel more accessible than any other group does, which is what I respect about them.
And last but not least, the message. As far as the moods/tones and themes of the Big Four go, DPS is the only one with any sort of hope at the ending, and the only one with a “true” aesthetic for the characters to chase. The three of the dark academia Big Four all focus on taking something too far and it going horribly wrong - the Greek class gets so into studying the Classics that they have a bacchanal and kill a man and then kill a man to prevent him from telling someone that they killed a man, which leads to yet another man dead and the rest of them unhappy; the Dellecher fourth-years get so into Shakespeare and the roles they play/their typecasts that Richard ends up dead, Oliver ends up in prison, James ends up either dead or faking his death, and everyone else suffers like I mentioned earlier; and in Kill Your Darlings, David ends up dead, Lu ends up in prison, and Allen ends up expelled. TSH has a very bleak epilogue - Richard is confused and yearning, Charles is still drunk and who-knows-where cut off from the rest of them, Camilla has her dying grandmother to worry about, Henry and Bunny are dead, and Francis is forcing himself to marry a woman he doesn’t even like as a person, let alone not being physically attracted to her whole-ass gender, because he would rather make himself miserable than be cut off from the financial support of his family. Donna Tartt leaves us with a depressing, unsatisfying ending - which is all part of the theme, but I’ll get to its relation to DPS later. All in all, TSH’s tone is a very dark one, and its message to not let yourself get so caught up in the aesthetic that you let yourself fall/sacrifice your morals (and also not to idolise rich assholes because they can and will use you and ruin your life), while relevant and important, is far from inspiring or uplifting. Similarly, they go too far in IWWV, pursuing Shakespeare until it fucks them all up, and it has a similar theme to TSH. Its ending, while I like it better than TSH’s, is still quite pessimistic; there’s a little glimmer of possibility there, but not really all that much, and you get the sense that things are never going to fix themselves. In Kill Your Darlings, too, Lu and Allen get so caught up in the New Vision that they let the rest of their lives fall apart around them, and the ending is a bit confused and “meh.” DPS, however, has a lot of hope in its ending. Yes, Neil’s death was sad, and so was Keating taking the fall for it, but despite that, Keating is able to walk out of that classroom with a smile on his face; the ending isn’t entirely sad, it’s bittersweet. DPS’s message is all about carpe diem, seize the day, make your lives extraordinary, and they all presumably go on to do that (except Neil, who died because he was unable to do that). While the aesthetic the characters chase in TSH sort of hinges on their rich assholery, the aesthetic the characters chase in IWWV more or less depends on their isolation and general fucked-up-ness, and the aesthetic the characters chase in Kill Your Darlings is pretty much based on substance abuse and not giving a fuck, all of which lead to their lives being ruined on varying levels, the aesthetic the characters chase in DPS not only doesn’t really ruin their lives and also seems to be much more attainable in a tangible way. While Keating loses his job, he’s able to walk out of the classroom with a smile on his face because he knows that he did what he came there to do - he inspired his students to live life to the fullest and think for/be true to themselves, which is actually a quite healthy aesthetic to strive for, especially compared to the other ones I’ve talked about. The ending of DPS isn’t entirely happy, but there’s so much hope in it, something which the other three lack, and because of that, it feels separate from them.
Anyway yeah. I’m not going to write a big ol’ conclusion because I’ve already taken up so much space, but yeah. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk lol.

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐦
- Alex loves reading. Both books and the paper. He carries his reading glasses on the collar of his shirt, or in his coat pocket.
- If he weren’t in a band, he would own a really nice bar and lounge. Live music, a reading area, and he’d be a bartender as well. It would probably have a soft of rustic, modern-baroque style.
- He chews cinnamon gum. He enjoys how it makes his tongue burn a little.
- Alex sometimes prefers for feminine scents when picking perfumes. They mix well with his natural lingering cigarette scent.
- He always keeps a cigarette tucked behind his ear.
- Twisting and tugging his rings has become a coping mechanism for his anxiety.
- Alex has a big sweet tooth for desserts and pastries. Especially homemade ones. Red velvet is a particular favorite.
- Aside from his favorites, a guilty pleasure of his when picking films are period pieces. He adores them. Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, Dead Poet’s Society, Dorian Gray…
- Alex really wants to learn French.
- He loves vintage pieces when choosing fashions. Jewelry, leather, belts… he likes the timeless feel.
- Alex is actually a very good cook. Baking, and bartending too! He loved a homemade margarita or a Moscow Mule
- Usually in an interview where Alex is wearing sunglasses, he’s dozing off.
𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐟𝐟
- Alex loves when you wear the things he bought. He absolutely adores it. Especially things like dresses or lingerie.
- Alex secretly has a bit of a green thumb and loves to keep plants around the house, all named after his band mates, and you.
- He has a very naturel pout when he’s deep in thought, and likes when you kiss it to snap him out of it.
- Alex secretly enjoys being the little spoon when the two of you cuddle. He’s want you to press your chest to his back, and wrap your arms around him.
- Alex always likes to keep some extra sweaters, hoodies, and dress-shirts out for the finding of you. He loves seeing you roam around his house in his clothes. Drives him crazy.
- Alex loves making you worked up and mad. He likes your little bossy fits and your silent treatments, because then he can go out and fix them with gifts and things.
- Alex stutters quiet a bit when it’s just the two of you. He says it’s because no matter how long the two of you have been together, your still make him so very nervous.
- His favorite thing about you is your legs. He loves when you oil them on date nights, and they shine. He love how soft they are. He loves when your thighs thicken when you sit down. He loves when you wear heels. He likes to kiss your calves and up when you two are in bed together. He just loves your legs.
𝐍𝐒𝐅𝐖
- Alex is very hyper-sensitive. The little things turn him on or arouse him.
- if you could photograph Alex after sex, you’d have multiple photo albums. You’ve never seen such a pretty afterglow..
- His hair is disheveled and sweaty, stuck to his forehead.
- His lips are glossy and parted while he tries to catch his breath.
- His eyes are sleepy and low, yet they still get all big and doe eyed when you speak to him…
- Alex gets super lazy after sex. His aftercare is cuddles and kisses. - He just gives soft, dazed praises while you clean the both of you up, patting your thighs and kissing your exposed parts.
- His flush cheeks and nose are heart wrenching. You especially like how flushed he gets while he’s buried between your thighs.
- He loves when you caress or scratch his chest and back. Especially with longer, freshly done nails. If you don’t do it yourself, he’ll take your hand and guide it down his body to where he wants it the most.
- Alex has two very different moans. Usually, they’re very vocal. Long, drawn out groans and strained curses under his breath, or there’s the more breathless, whiny like moans you’ve come to favor. The way he cries out your name and his voice cracks before he hits that pinnacle of pleasure.
- Your neck is his go-to, especially your collarbone. It’s always his first target. Kissing, biting, licking, he just loves your reactions.
- There was no in between when you and Alex made love. In the mornings, soft sex was perfect. Both still very sleepy, his strong arms holding you close, holding your leg in the air as he buried his nose into your neck. Keeping his thrusts slow and lush. His cheeks puffed and rosy, fluffy disheveled hair and doe eyes staring up at you as you ride him lazily, or sometimes he’d hold you close to his chest until you both spilled over. Soft breaths and whimpers exchanged, the sweet nothings he whispered in your ear when he got close. It was all amazing.
- Rough sex was another story. When Al was pent up or frustrated, that’s when you knew you were in for it. Your wrists clutched firmly in his hands as he pounded into you. He especially loved it when you started to cry from the overwhelming pleasure. He’d kiss your tears but his rhythm never faltered or softened. He loved taking you from behind too, forcing you down into a cat-like arch and gripping your hips so hard he left imprints.
- You two came to agreement and made your safe word “Rosie.”
- Knee socks. You thought they were childish at first, but when Alex first saw you wear them to one of his concerts, he took you right there in his dressing you. Now you have a thousand pairs.
- On the rare occasion that Al us still energized after sex, he’s the King of Aftercare. Water on a tray, tea, a warm bath, a hot meal on the way, his clothes freshly out of the dryer so they’re warm when you wear them, he wants nothing more than to make you feel completely safe with him, especially after more intense love making.
- On stage, Alex is very immersed in his performance. When on-stage, he transforms. There was something erotic about the way his body moved, usually on its own. Grinding and rolling his hips, caressing his mic stand, getting down on his hands and knees… Alex couldn’t count the amount of times he’s found himself turned on during a performance or concert, having to quickly hide his erections the best he can.
𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭
- When you first made it official, Alex desperately tried to get over it, but there was this mind eating feeling he had that he didn’t deserve you.
- After disagreements that are exceptionally bad, he’ll come find you afterwards like a timid child.
- “Are you still upset with me, love…?”
- He hates waking up alone. He just feels like once he’s off stage, no one cares for the real Alex. He always need you in bed with him.
- He’s a terrible sleeper. He gets no where near enough sleep and so he tries to nap whenever he can.
- He’s tried to stop smoking so many times, but he really struggles with anxiety.
- You had been shouting at him once and quickly stopped when you realized he was having a panic attack.
- “I’m not good at this relationship thing am I?”
- When Alex realizes his accent is “too much”, he tries to correct so it’s easier to comprehend.
- When faced with chances to open up about his own emotions, he automatically brushes it off or gets distant.
- “I don’t know, does anyone really care what I think?”
- “I’ve just gotten used to not having the last word…”

Sleepless nights༄☆🍓
Drabble! fluff!
Humbug! Alex Turner x reader!
Warnings: none
Summary: you end up having a sleepless night and Alex tries to stay up with you
The dark blue almost black, blanketed over the sky with only the moon and streetlamps lighting up the small city you and Alex lived in. The stars barely visible because of light pollution but a few still shined. You stood on the balcony of the nice apartment the two of you shared, zoning out. the building was old but the inside was quite modern, you and Alex still tried to keep the old aesthetic, with tall bookshelf’s leaning against the walls and antique furniture. Even though it wasn’t the old big Victorian style houses you two dreamed of ,it was still nice and as long as you had each other it was home.
You gasped when a pair of muscular arms wrapped around your waist. Alex had a habit of doing this. He was a quiet walker and he knew you would be zoned out anyways.
“Babeh” his smoky voice rung in your ears “it’s almost 12”
“I know.” You sighed knowing he missed your warmth next to him.
“You alright, me love?” He rested his chin on your shoulder, his long grown out hair falling in different places on yours and his shoulder.
“Yes, just can’t sleep” you insisted.
“Alright.” He Said skeptical. “Would you like some tea?” he swayed his hips gently , something he did quite often.
“Sure” You turned around placing a kiss on the tip of his nose which you so dearly loved.
He scrunched his nose, making you giggle. His strong arms released from your body as he walked inside to go make the tea he previously mentioned, soon you followed walking into your home and plopping on the couch with your legs stretched out and pulling a fluffy blanket over your body as an act to stay warm. You picked up the book you were currently reading off of the coffee table opening to where you left your book mark.
You got lost in the story not noticing Alex walking over with two cups of tea,he placed them both of them on the coffee table then patted your leg as a sign to move them so he could sit on the couch, you snapped out of your book and scooted your legs back leaving room for him. He got under the big blanket you had draping over your legs.
“What’re you reading?” You looked over the top of your book
“Dead Poets Society.”
“Read it to me?” You smiled softly, you loved reading to Alex, most of the time he would put his head on your chest , wrap his arms around your waist while you played with his soft long hair.
You open your arms as a signal for him to come lay in them. he repositioned himself in order to lay down comfortably with you. You spread your legs back out leaving room for his, once the two of you were settled you began to softly read.
“Walk, gentlemen. Slow down," a teacher with a Scottish brogue called out. The forty members of the junior class hurried down the dormitory-”
You stopped when you heard soft muffled snores coming from Alex. You smiled at the sight of his sleeping face.
“Baby” You whispered and gently shook his shoulder
He stirred a bit and blinked his eyes open “Sorry im up”
“Go to bed my love” you insisted knowing he was sleepy from the day
“No no, I promise I’ll stay up” he raised his head and looked up at you with his doe like eyes which you couldn’t resist
“Fine but if you fall asleep again you have to go to bed okay?” You gave him a look of concern and worry.
“I promise” he mumbled before laying his head back down on your chest. You continued reading , picking up where you left off
“the dormitory stair-case while fifteen senior boys tried to crush their way up. “Yes, sir, Mr. McAllister," one of the juniors called back. "Sorry, sir." McAllister shook his head at the boys who dashed-“
Sure enough you heard gentle snores yet again you went to wake him up but didn’t have the heart to when you saw how peaceful he looked, so instead you placed your book down and wrapped your arms around him one of your hands still tangled in his hair.
“Goodnight my love” you whispered.

More pjo/hoo headcanons
Apollo kids exclusively work out with musics as a cabin, but they always argue about the playlist that should be chosen. Will uses councillor privilege to force them to pick country.
The Athena cabin has a projector for sure
Also, they have youtube premium because of lofi music
Apollo kids have been banned from using guns in training with others (they recreated the ten duel commandments from Hamilton and actually ended up shooting without missing the target. Now, they can only shoot on regular targets, not living ones)
Hephaestus and Athena kids are a living proof of the "an architect's dream is an engineer's nightmare" thing
There is definitely an Athena kid out there that hates math with a burning passion. Their mom isn't very happy about that.
Despite their rivalry, many Apollo kids have Ares cabin bffs - after all, they spend lots of time in the infirmary
Ares kids usually have a great relationship with their father - he is surprisingly encouraging and supportive
Will can definitely ride a horse and you can't convince me otherwise
Also. His mom has a yellow pickup truck with tons of stickers and a guitar on the backseat
Sally refused to use the subway ever since Percy was born (you know how the underground always smells like monsters and that's why Grover didn't notice the chimera? That was exactly why)
Percy used to cry in the seafood section of stores, especially if it had anything living there
Athena kids can achieve Eminem speed during debate, I will not elaborate any further
Oh also. They're not straight As kids, or at least not all of them, especially the older ones. I mean, the school system vs learning disorders? There's no way they're winning that fight entirely. They probably have the subjects they like and ace, and then the subject that are just there, and since they're not failing, they don't really care (yes this is about me getting a C from physics again, I hate physics)
Annabeth loves the "further is for physical distance, farther for metaphorical and father for emotional" tumblr post
Hera's cabin has a family portrait of the olympians, it's quite a bittersweet sight
Let Demeter kids have a scythe as their weapon of choice pls
Athena kids make so many lame nerd puns. Occasionally, a Hephaestus kid or a secret nerd will laugh.
Athena kids are definitely the type to fight the teacher about their grade. They will gather evidence that their answer is technically correct and either impress or annoy the teacher so much they will actually change their grade
All Athena kids have a resting bitch face (just like Hermes kids have a face that says they're troublemakers)
Hermes kids are naturally skilled at orientation on a map and in terrain
Hephaestus and Hermes cabin have once held a lock-picking competition (based on speed but also the amount of damage caused)
Every single person in the Athena cabin has seen both Dead Poets Society and School of Rock (and loved it)
For an absolutely nonexistent reason I think the Aphrodite cabin has some pro tip for washing blood out of clothes and stuff
Very stereotypical of me but in the Ares cabin, the strongest is the leader and their word is law, if you disagree, you gotta participate in a one on one fight of choice (it doesn't matter that much if you win, at least you still prove your bravery and the courage to stand up for what you believe in). Meanwhile, the Athena cabin votes on everything. And yes, they are proud of it. And yes, they have senate level debates where everyone uses whatever dirt they have on the others to win (because they probably know too much gossip without even really intending to) sometimes. Only sometimes.
Also. They have ostrakism which is basically a thing where you break a pot/vase/something, each person gets a piece and carves on the name of someone who is endangering democracy in their option. The person with the most votes gets chased out I think. Athena kids have changed up that part, they simply ban that person from voting for 6 months.
Athena kids with learning disorders. That's all I want to say.
Mentioning my previous 'Athena cabin has a Pallas cat' headcanon
Also Athena kids are the people who will point out historical stuff behind the names of places or companies (example: my country has a shopping centre called palladium, i instill the lore of the original palladium on anyone unfortunate enough to be there with me)
Apollo kids personalise their instruments - stickers, paint, carved initials, cool straps and other accessories, you name it!
They also have a whole row of those instrument hangers, yk what i mean?

vedic astrology observations
philosophical songwriters often have tropical virgo and pisces placements. many of them have jupiter ruled nakshatras. mrigashira nakshatra pops up a lot as well. all of these placements contribute to the contemplative nature of these natives, they are deeply reflective and take on an almost religious tone with regard to how they speak of things.
Tumblr media
hozier- pbp sun + mercury, anuradha moon with ashlesha ketu
Tumblr media
leonard cohen- uttaraphalguni sun, purvaphalguni venus, pushya ketu
Tumblr media
sufjan stevens- ubp moon, mrig mercury, jup revati amk, punarvasu saturn amk, ketu in krittika
(in my previous post, i had mentioned how ubp & punarvasu natives love butterfly imagery and here's sufjan on stage with wings!!)
Tumblr media
bob dylan- rohini sun and venus, krittika moon, mrig mercury, ubp ketu
Tumblr media
bruce springsteen, uttaraphalguni sun, chitra moon+ mercury +ketu, swati venus, mrig rising
Tumblr media
joni mitchell vishaka sun + mercury, pbp moon, punarvasu rising, mrig mars atmakaraka
2. Shatabhisha & Pushya natives make great teachers. They thrive in positions where they're able to empower and encourage others.
Tumblr media
Sidney Poitier in perhaps his most famous role, as a teacher, in To Sir With Love. He has Shatabhisha sun.
Tumblr media
Robin Williams, in one of his most iconic roles, as a teacher in Dead Poets Society (he also plays a teacher in Good Will Hunting). He has Pushya sun, Shatabhisha moon.
Tumblr media
Aamir Khan plays a teacher in one of his most known roles in Taare Zameen Par. He has Pushya moon.
3. Fairy Godmother roles in cinema are often played by either Taurus rashi or Pisces rashi individuals
Tumblr media
In the 1987 movie Maid to Order, the fairy godmother is played by Beverly D'Angelo who is Rohini moon
Tumblr media
in the 1997 movie A Simple Life, Martin Short plays the fairy godmother. he has UBP stellium (sun, mercury and rahu)
Tumblr media
1997's Cinderella has Whitney Houston playing the fairy godmother. she has Revati moon & jupiter (ive talked about pisces rashi's connection to butterflies before and look at how whitney's spreading her wings in this picture!🥺)
Tumblr media
in 2015's Cinderella, Helena Bonham Carter plays the fairy godmother. she has Rohini sun & Ketu in Revati
Tumblr media
Maleficent is played by Rohini sun, Revati moon native, Angelina Jolie
i've previously talked about how Rohini nakshatra is associated with shape shifting and transformation and Revati nakshatra is known as the wealth giving star. These two combined create the ability to deeply transform one's life, heal from old wounds and ways of living and rise to the high echelons of society. They're both known for creating wealth. it only makes sense that these natives would be chosen time and time again to play the "fairy godmother" responsible for transforming the lives of a virtuous person trapped in unjust circumstances
4. ive noticed that many mars ruled men (mrigashira, chitra, dhanishta) go after older women 👀 bharani is another nakshatra that pops up often (bharani is the meeting point of mars and venus)
my personal take on this is that mars influence makes natives interested in taboo and unconventional topics and areas. all 3 mars ruled nakshatras belong to the "servant caste" and bharani is an outcaste nakshatra. what this says is that these people have no desire or need to conform or adhere to the norms set by society. they don't care for the status quo and feel no sense of belonging to mainstream society so they simply do as they please<3
Tumblr media
Ashton Kutcher, Dhanishta stellium (sun, moon & venus) was married to Demi Moore who is 15 years older than him. Demi is a Bharani moon.
Tumblr media
Aaron Taylor Johnson has Mrigashira sun, Dhanishta moon and venus in Bharani and his wife Sam Taylor Johnson is 24 years older than him.
Tumblr media
Hugh Jackman, Chitra sun (and mercury) and Mrigashira moon is married to Debora Lee Furness who is 13 years older than him.
Tumblr media
Emmanuel Macron, Bharani moon is married to Brigitte Macron who is 25 years older than him
Tumblr media
Nick Jonas, Bharani moon, Chitra venus and Ketu in Mrigashira is married to Priyanka Chopra who is 10 years older
Tumblr media
Nick Offerman is married to Megan Mullaly who is 12yrs older than him. He has Mrigashira mercury atmakaraka and Saturn in Bharani amatyakaraka
Tumblr media
Nick Cannon, Bharani rising was married to Mariah Carey who is 12yrs older than him
Tumblr media
Blake Shelton, Mrigashira sun & venus, Jupiter in Bharani atmakaraka with Ketu in Bharani is married to Gwen Stefani who is 7yrs older
Tumblr media
Roger Moore was married to Dorothy Squires who is 12 yrs older than him. He had Chitra sun & mars (amatyakaraka & atmakaraka)
5. others have made observations regarding how Jupiter influence blesses a native with voluptuousness. imo Jupiter, cancer rashi and Moon ruled nakshatras can make a native naturally busty.
Jupiter being the largest planet creates voluptuousness in its natives often blessing them with large breasts (obviously other placements will also impact your appearance) Cancer rashi because well, cancer rules the moon and the chest so its kind of a no brainer and honestly every cancer girl ik irl has a big bosom. Moon is yin and bestows its natives with a very curvy physique.
Tumblr media
Christina Hendricks is Shravana moon
Tumblr media
Billie Eilish is also Shravana moon
Tumblr media
Emma Kenney is Vishaka moon with Ketu in Shravana
Tumblr media
Ariel Winter is Shravana sun
Tumblr media
Scarlett Johansson is Vishaka moon, rising and ketu
Tumblr media
Katy Perry is vishaka moon & saturn
Tumblr media
Jessica Simpson is Punarvasu sun & mercury and Vishaka rising
🐲🕊🧚🏼‍♂️👼🏼👸🏼🦋🦢🧜🏼‍♀️🧚🏼‍♀️🕊👼🏼🦋🦢🧜🏼‍♀️👸🏼🦋🦢🧜🏼‍♀️🧚🏼‍♀️👸🏼🦋🦢🧜🏼‍♀️🧚🏼‍♀️
Tumblr has a 30 image limit per post so I cant include more examples :( but look forward to pt 2 <3

DPS: Charlie’s Moment
Tumblr media
Charlie takes the phrase “carpe diem” to heart throughout the entirety of the film. This is seen most evidently through his “phone call from God” moment. Charlie sneaks in an article demanding that girls are allowed to enrol in Welton Academy. As Keating has taught the Poets that in order to live a life that is truly theirs, they must commit to what they are passionate about and take advantage of opportunities. Charlie’s phone call from God is often seen as his Carpe Diem Moment and is regarded as such for the remainder of the film.
Throughout the film, Charlie looks up to Mr. Keating as he is someone who ignores societal rules and standards; something Charlie strives to do in his every day life. Keating’s attitude towards life inspires Charlie, however his journey is not as central as Neil or Todd’s. Charlie admired Keating as he encourages free thinking and passion for a group of young boys who find themselves constricted by the pressures of conformity and success. Charlie takes great pride in himself and wants to put Keating’s motto to good use which is seen in various points throughout the film.
However, it is in my unprofessional opinion that I disagree with Charlie’s Carpe Diem Moment being the phone call from God. After Neil’s suicide, Charlie’s child-like mannerisms take an enormous blow leading him to becoming protective of his friends yet drawn back in nature. Neil’s suicide takes a massive toll on the entire group and results in Cameron ratting the Dead Poets Society out and blaming Neil’s death on Mr. Keating. Throughout the film, Charlie refrains from lashing out against Cameron (someone he has never liked or wanted to agree with) but this all changes after he finds out what Cameron does.
Neil and Charlie were best friends prior to the film’s setting and they continue their brotherly bond for the entirety of the movie. Charlie confronts Cameron and accuses him of ratting out the group and blaming the situation on Keating. Charlie has changed from someone who refrains from lashing out too harshly to someone who refuses to let injustice pass by. He punches Cameron in the face, and makes this his real Carpe Diem Moment.
Charlie’s punch wasn’t a simple act of defiance, it was him avenging Neil’s death and refusing to stand by as his world goes to hell. This punch is years of pent up anger towards Cameron, however it also includes the memory of both Neil and Keating. Charlie was willing to put his future at Welton on the line in order for him to set the record straight. This proves Charlie’s nature as the caretaker of the group even though this is not blatantly seen. Charlie’s real Carpe Diem Moment was promising Neil that his death would not be meaningless; that his death was not a simple mistake, but a claiming of independence.
~
I’m so trademarking “Carpe Diem Moment”

book character analysis: neil perry from dead poet's society
Tumblr media
Neil Perry was initially portrayed as an outspoken, optimistic, and creative leader in the Poets' lives: He fully accepts himself, wears his heart on his sleeve, and pushes Todd outside of what he is comfortable with, rejecting the constricting hands of conformity.
I think he is the boldest character in the novel, as he represents the intricate mosaic of conflicting feelings and desires that society feels when faced with an authority figure’s demands. Neil dreams of becoming an actor, however, he feels restrained by his overbearing father (Thomas Perry) from doing so. Some even say Mr.Perry is his biological father, but John Keating was his dad, which hit me like a train because that was when I realized love must be earned and reciprocated to thrive.
Tumblr media
Although he fears his father’s perception of him, he does find the strength to go against his father with encouragement from Mr. Keating and his friends. But with the excruciating pressures of his father's expectations becoming increasingly more restrictive, Neil shrinks into his own skin, slowly losing his identity. Momentarily before he commits suicide, he attempts to stand up to his father, but he is pushed back down again. Neil lets the void consume him as he accepts the life planned out for him by his father, realizing he has no voice in contributing his own verse.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, Neil takes his own life,  a moment showing the evil nature of both obedience and disobedience. His suicide represents his own personal story, as he does not want to disobey and disappoint his father, but he does not want to follow the path that has been written for him. In my opinion, Neil's passing will forever be one of the most heartbreaking yet powerful plot twists in the novel. It shows how even the strongest can still crumble under the disapproval and neglect of the ones they love and look up to the most.
