Also I’m ignoring cannon endings here because we want to end up happy with babies. No angst here, begone!

Astarion:

At first, he thinks that you’re joking. Vampires can’t have children after all, that’s a pretty basic fact. When you’re insistent, part of him wants to accuse you of cheating, as much as it pains him. That’s a part of him still tainted by Cazador and he muffles it as best he can. Astarion is going to insist you go to a healer together; if you’re not pregnant, something must be going on you need help with. When Shadowheart confirms you’re with child, he’s at a loss. Astarion doesn’t know what to say, truly.

After the initial shock, he goes on the hunt for anything and everything about human-vampire babies. The records are hard to find and some are locked far, far away but he finds them all. He can be very persuasive after all. It’s in one of these books that he figures out how you two made a baby; he’s going to be very careful taking your blood from now on. Speaking of, Astarion will refuse to drink from you while you pregnant, no ifs ands or buts. This is a firm boundary for him, even if you smell more and more delicious the farther along you get.

The pregnancy is hard and Astarion is afraid he’s going to lose you. The birth is especially gruesome and it’s only because of Shadowheart and Halsin that you’re alive. He wants to resent the baby for how you suffered but he can’t, they’re just too perfect. He’s afraid of getting too close, of tainting this little thing but you refuse to let him be apart. The first time he holds your child he weeps and it’s over. Astarion is always going to struggle with his emotions and feelings about being a father but never about how much he loves them. Also, he’s completely in charge of their wardrobe; you’re going to have the best-looking baby in the entire city hands down.

Gale:

Gale was always on the fence about kids. Sure they’re cute but they’re also loud and he struggles to take care of himself, let alone a little squishy creature. That doesn’t mean he’s upset when you tell him you’re pregnant, not at all. He’s just doing furious calculations in his mind and it looks like he’s crashed. Give his brain a moment to reset and he’ll give you a large grin and lean down to kiss you. Tara is the first person the two of you tell and she’s excited, vowing to be the baby’s protector. Gale loves her even more which is quite the feat. His mother is next and she immediately starts offering help. He just can’t get over how perfect his family is, it feels like a dream sometimes. 

He takes a very technical approach to your pregnancy, like everything. Gale is reading all of the baby books and using all of the tracking charts he can get his hands on. He even goes to talk to midwives, wanting an expert opinion. It’s very sweet of him but you have to remind him that all babies grow at their own pace. He just wants to be the best dad he can and for him, that means more information. It is funny to watch him change a diaper for the first time but he never backs down from a challenge! Maybe he can use magic…?

He’s a mess when you actually go into labor. Gale swore he would be with you the entire time and then passed out in the final moments. He wakes up to a healthy baby and immediately starts crying. He enjoys being a dad, especially teaching your child new things. Your kid is going to have a huge curious streak that Gale will feed with vigor. He doesn’t consciously want your kid to be a wizard but would be overjoyed to have more in common with them.

Wyll:

Wyll is over the moon, as surprised as he is. Kids are something that he’s always wanted to have eventually and with you, his favorite person? What could go wrong? Of course, he’ll hear out your concerns if you have any and can have difficult conversations around pregnancy and child birth. One benefit of being a noble is that he has resources to help; whatever you want will be yours. He’s nervous to tell his dad but once the older man starts to tear up, he knows that he’s made a good choice. Wyll wants his family to be whole and happy.

He’s a chronic hoverer, as cute and frustrating as that is. Even in the early stages of pregnancy Wyll will try to do everything for you; moving a trunk? He’s got that, don’t strain yourself. Trying to cook dinner? Let him help you love. Be firm that you can do things yourself and he’ll back off. Just know that when you turn to ask him for help he’ll be waiting in the wings to be your hero. He’s also a pro at helping you figure out cravings. Wyll won’t complain if you wake him up in the middle of the night to go get something from the kitchen. He loves wrapping his arms around you from behind and rocking together; you being in his arms is his favorite thing.

He’s a trooper during the birth, being there the entire time. It takes a long time and he does worry but he encourages you and is your personal cheerleader. He can’t stop smiling after the baby is born, tracing their cheeks and forehead. As much as it would be funny to say Wyll struggles with being a dad, he really doesn’t. He loves your child so much, you’re surprised he never brought up kids in the first place. He is very much the definition of doting father but don’t let that fool you, he takes no disrespect, especially towards you. You’re the ruler of the house and Wyll is your backup. He’s the perfect mix of fun and strict dad. Now if he can convince you to have others…

Karlach:

Karlach is over the moon when you find our you’re pregnant. She had noticed you felt off and encouraged you to go to the doctor. Neither of you were expecting the baby news, as silly as it sounds. That doesn’t stop her form immediately lifting you up with a loud ‘whoop!’ and spinning your around the room. She loves babies! She loves you! This is going to be great.

She insists on redoing a room just for the baby. Even if their crib is going to be in your room for the first few months, Karlach wants your kid to have their own space. She paints the walls, builds all the furniture, everything. She asks for you opinion on decorations and doesn’t do anything without checking with you first but it’s her labor of love. It’s also her project for when she gets anxious thinking about the future. What is something goes wrong with her heart? What if something is wrong with the baby? What is the birth is too much for you? All of these thoughts get washed away in making the baby’s room perfect and then she goes to talk to you.

Karlach helps as much as she can during the birth aka you kick her (lovingly) into the hall to go grab towels so she stops hovering. When she gets back the baby is almost here and there’s no time to panic, just watch with wide eyes. She thinks you’re even more of a badass for going through all that and asks to hold the baby fist. Karlach cries holding them; they’re so cute and small and they’re the perfect mix of the two of you. She’s defiantly going to be the fun mom and there will be moments where it feels like you have two kids to scold. She takes safety very seriously, however, and is the first to lecture about stranger danger. Your kid will never feel unloved or unsafe, Karlach swears it on her life. This is her family now and no one else can have them.

Lae’zel:

Lae’zel struggles with the news that you’re having a baby. Partly because she never thought that she could have kids and the other part because she’s terrified about being a mom. She wasn’t raised in a traditional Faerunian way; no where on the continent can be compared to being raised Gith. She needs time to process on her own and it’ll be a few days before she comes back ready to talk. Take her concerns seriously and, if you truly want to keep the baby, she’ll raise them with you. She loves you after all.

It takes her a bit to understand all the changes your body is going through. It’s horrifying and amazing to watch your stomach swell and she loves gently cradling your bump as it grows. She doesn’t know what to do about the crying, except when someone else makes you cry. Then it’s easy: she wants to kill them. That usually makes you laugh and you’re able to talk her out of bodily harm. You do have some nice shop discounts now. Lae’el is very much your guard dog and she fulfills her position with pride.

The entire birthing process just shows Lae’zel that you’re the strongest person she knows. She’s completely impressed by how you handle everything and has a new respect for moms everywhere. She still thinks it’s gross and inefficient but badass all the same. Lae’zel is a strict mom but soft in her own way. She’s still learning to be kind to herself and the world around her. Your child will never feel the brunt of her frustration or confusion; they will, however, be able to swing a sword much too young. She beams with pride the first time your child beheads a training dummy and you know, deep deep down, that the two of them going to be trouble.

Shadowheart:

She starts to notice the signs before you do, honestly. At first it’s little things; you’re tired quicker, you’re more sensitive to certain smells. The big one is that you start to get morning sickness, frequently. Shadowheart finally sits you down after the fifth morning in a row over a bucket and checks you over. You’re pregnant all right, not doubt there. She’s going to be as surprised as you; you were both good about protection. Surprise baby!

She’s fairly neutral about kids. She never thought that she would have any, serving Shar, but now there’s a little more appeal to them. The pooping and crying she could live without but the idea of there being someone made up of the two of you? Shadowheart likes the idea more than she would admit out loud. She starts researching pregnancy healing the midwifery right away; she doesn’t have a lot of expertise with babies but she is a healer.

Shadowheart insists on delivering your baby herself. She wants to be a part of this and while you’re going to be doing the hard part, she wants to support you. If you have an issue, she will relent but has to be in the room. Your delivery is flawless and as she holds the bloody baby in her hands, she feels full. Of love and hope and excitement, all those emotions she once would have sworn off. For the first time since you’ve found out you’re pregnant, she’s excited to be a mom. She’s a strict but loving mom, teasing her kid and embarrassing them in public (just a little, like a cheek pinch). Shadowheart loves singing to your kids, something neither of you knew until now. Your house is full of love and laughter and singing, just perfect.

He still has a lot of the same features as my previous design, i mostly just changed his pattern and coloring! I wanted him to be a rustier color!

I also changed his cheek fluff to be round, mostly just for an interesting face shape! his cheek fluff hangs a little more flat when he's older just to give him a more matured look (hes been thru some shit, his cheeks hath deflated)

Notes:

Firesight has chronic pain (and mobility issues later in life):

Fire has the Scottish Fold breed's mutation which effects cartilage in the body, this causes his ears to fold, but it also causes chronic joint pain and can progress into swollen and inflexible joints.

For Fire, he is has the heterozygous version of this mutation, which means that his disability progresses more slowly, as a young cat he does experience some joint pain, with some days being worse than others. He is able to medicate with his own chronic pain herbal mix he created as a Healer. However as Fire grows older his joints will worsen, and by the time of his old age he will be unable to jump and some days is unable to walk.

He is able to still use his medication to aid him and is able to lead a happy life, but he is disabled and I didnt want to leave that out of his character! It's important to have disability rep (and spread awareness of the issues with the Scottish Fold breed) and I hope I serve him justice!

Abortion in The Witcher Books

Would anyone like to come along with me on a deep dive regarding abortion in The Witcher books? Not enough people talk about the fact that Geralt of Rivia is explicitly pro-choice and that the sorceresses are seen providing reproductive care, including abortion, on multiple occasions. So, let's do that.

There are a lot of things you can say about The Witcher books, feminism, misogyny, and the male gaze. (I am considering doing my first video on this very topic. It is complicated. This is not a 'the books are perfect' post) But one thing we can never say is that they are wishy washy about bodily autonomy, and more specifically, abortion. (In fact, that is the entire point of Ciri and Geralt's arc, which I will get to at the end of the post)

This topic came up awhile back because a 'witcher school' was closed after the owners were found to have ties to far right organizations, including anti-abortion organizations. So, I did a little thread on twitter about it, wondering how you can call yourself a Witcher fan (to the extent that you license a fan activity business!), and miss the entire fucking point. It was my most popular (and ofc hated by others) tweet ever, which was interesting, but I was mostly surprised that so many people were shocked to learn that Geralt of Rivia is, as a character, canonically, verbally, explicitly pro-abortion rights.

So I’m going to put the info here too in case any of you here find it interesting. Obviously there will be spoilers for the books.

TW: discussion of sexual assault, pregnancy, and basically anything having to do with reproductive health.

Before I start, I want to say that the book refers to abortion in reference to rights for women throughout, so that is the language in this article. I want to be clear that I (as an individual) understand that abortion is relevant to other genders and that I support it for trans men, non binary people, literally anyone. Abortion should be safe and on demand for all. But this is not a post analyzing my views on abortion, but the appearance of abortion in fictional psuedo medieval-esque fantasy world of The Witcher books.

Ok, I’ll start with the fact that sorceresses provide reproductive care in the books, including abortions.

In, The Last Wish (p210) Geralt tries to give Nenneke money to help Yen with fertility treatments. (In the books he does not mock her desire to have a child) He knows Yen wants to be a mother, and he wants to help. Nenneke replies that she does not need his money, and that providing abortions pays a hell of a lot better than witchering.

"You're more of an idiot than I thought." Nenneke picked up the basket from the ground. "A costly treatment? Help? Geralt, these jewels of yours are, to her, knickknacks not worth spitting on. Do you know how much Yennefer can earn for getting rid of an unwanted pregnancy for a great lady?"

Witches as providers of abortion is a very common trope in fantasy fiction for a very good reason. In order to stamp out paganism and polytheism, European colonists vilified the village wise woman as a murderer of children, hence the 'boil them in a pot, stuff them in the oven' stories about witches. Many people interpret this as the vilification of abortion. In the classic 1972 feminist text Witches, Midwives, and Nurses: A History of Women Healers, Ehrenreich and English quote Malleus Maleficarum, the witch hunting manual written by Catholic clergymen in 1487, to show that women providing reproductive healthcare was one of the 'characteristics' of a witch.

The witch that provides reproductive healthcare fits in very well in the witcher world, where Geralt and the witchers are embodiments of the working class who are used as tools and exploited. They are loathed until they are needed. The same is true of abortion providers. They are hated until they are needed, and they are always needed.

It also fits in well with the themes of class. In the Witcher books, it is stated multiple times that it is upper class women who are accessing this care from sorceresses. That is real. It is the truth that outlawing something very very often only means outlawing it for the poor and working class. The wealthy always find a way.

In Season of Storms, the sorceress Coral and her assistant Mozaïk provide reproductive healthcare to "wealthy, upper-class ladies" on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Geralt comes to speak to Coral in chapter sixteen and both of the women are wearing white doctor coats. They have just helped a woman deliver a baby and it is implied that the baby died and they are both upset. They do not want Geralt there, because (it seems to me) they need space to grieve, and they do not expect him to understand. They send send him away, suggesting he go spend time with Dandelion.

She walked over and kissed him on the cheek without a word. Her lips were cold. And she had dark circles under her eyes.

She smelled of medicine. And the fluid she used as disinfectant. It was a nasty, morbid scent. A scent full of fear.

"I'll see you tomorrow," she forestalled him...She looked at him and it was a faraway look, from beyond a chasm of time and events between them. He needed a few seconds to understand how deep that chasm was and how remote were the events separating them.

"Maybe the day after tomorrow would be better. Go to town. Meet that poet, he's been worried about you. But now go, please. I have to see a patient."

After she had gone, he glanced at Mozaïk....

"We had a birth this morning," she said, and her voice was a little different. "A difficult one. She decided to use forceps. And everything that could have gone badly did."

"I understand."

"I doubt it."

"Goodbye Mozaïk."

There are multiple other references to abortion in relation to sorceresses; I won't quote them all. But I'll leave you with one other reference. In Lady of the Lake (pp114), in a very funny moment, Angoulême says she has a 'small problem' and Fringilla replies:

"I understand," nodded the sorceress. "It's nothing dreadful. When was your last period?"

Angoulême is rather put out at the thought of being pregnant.

"What do you mean?" Angoulême leaped to her feet, frightening the chickens. "It's nothing of the sort. It's something completely different!"

So, sorceresses provide abortions and other reproductive care.

But what about the men? What about the heroes?

Well, several of the male protagonists state explicitly in no uncertain terms that abortion is an inalienable, sacred right. That includes Geralt himself.

Here is Geralt taking to Queen Calanthe in Sword of Destiny (p345). She asks him whether he hates his mother. In the course of his answer, Geralt says that abortion is “a choice which should be respected, for it is the holy and irrefutable right of every woman.”

"A choice. A choice which should be respected, for it is the holy and irrefutable right of every woman."

That’s a strong goddamn statement. There’s no doubting his meaning or the strength of his conviction. And it isn’t just Geralt. Dandelion (Jaskier), Cahir (he is traveling with Geralt as part of the hansa in the books, please set aside anything you think you know about him from TWN), and Regis (Geralts dear friend) all explicitly support abortion rights, quite passionately.

In Baptism of Fire (p317), one of Geralt’s dear friends (my favorite, the love of my life, Milva) shares that she is pregnant. They are on a brutal journey through a war zone looking for Ciri. So it’s complicated. Another friend, barber surgeon vampire Regis has prepared an elixir for her to induce an abortion. So, not only do sorceresses provide abortions, but so do vampire barber surgeons, one of the most lovable heroic characters in the books.

But before he administers it, Regis gathers the rest of the company. Regis knows Milva feels like shit at the prospect of burdening them, so he is worried that she is making the decision under duress. They don’t immediately understand why he is bringing the matter to them.

At first they think he is asking for opinions on whether she should get an abortion. They are baffled. Cahir answers first. He says in Nilfgaard it is always a woman’s right to choose.

"In Nilfgaard," Cahir said, blushing and lowering his head, "the woman decides. No one has the right to influence her decision. Regis said that Milva is certain she wants the medicament. Only for that reason, absolutely only for that reason, have I begun-in spite of myself-to think of it as an established fact. And to think about the consequences. But I'm a foreigner, who doesn't know...I ought not to get involved. I apologize."

So, Cahir says that maybe it’s a foreigner thing. Maybe it’s different for them. Dandelion (Jaskier) is offended and outraged by the implication that they believe any differently.

"What for?" the troubadour asked, surprised. "Do you think we're savages, Nilfgaardian? Primitive tribes, obeying some sort of shamanic taboo? It's obvious that only the woman can make a decision like that. It's her inalienable right. If Milva decides to--"

At this point, Geralt cuts Dandelion off. Geralt alone actually understands that there is something else happening here, that they are misunderstanding Regis and further questions are in order. Geralt begs Dandelion to stfu, which the bard misinterprets. He thinks Geralt is disagreeing with him and is considering opposing Milva's right to choose. Dandelion LOSES HIS TEMPER at the thought that Geralt would deny Milva her right.

Geralt becomes even more irritated and angry at the implication that he would do such a thing.

So, not only do we have witches as abortionists in The Witcher books, we have men, the hero (Geralt) his best friend (Dandelion), my beloved Regis, and Cahir say explicitly that abortion is an inalienable right.

And that should be no surprise.

Bodily autonomy and reproductive rights is at the very heart of the story. You do not have The Witcher story without it. It drives the narrative, the conflict, and Geralt and Yen's character arcs.

There is a criticism I see floating around quite a bit, that having Yen's story driven by her desire to be a mom and to physically reproduce is anti-feminist, or at least a tired reductive trope of women being defined by their maternal instincts.

I get that. I get tired of womanhood being defined by reproduction and motherhood as well. Biological essentialism when it comes to gender is exhausting and regressive. However, in this context, it is entirely clear to me that the point is NOT that all women should want to be pregnant. The point is the bodily autonomy, to be pregnant if you want to, and to not be pregnant if you don't want to.

Look at Ciri. She essentially becomes the main character by the end, and the idea of being pregnant repulses her.

So, in Lady of the Lake, Ciri is being held captive by elves, who want to do the same thing to her that everyone else does--breed her. The deal they offer her is, she does not 'have' to have sex with anyone until she is impregnated, but if she doesn't, she can't leave. (So, if she is to access what every human wants--freedom--she has to. This is still rape. It is coerced sex) She is understandably distraught and enraged. The part of that deal she seems most disgusted by, is the idea that she could be pregnant.

"But I don't want to!" yelled Ciri so loudly that the mare skittered beneath her. "I don't want to, understand? I don't want to! The thought of a bloody parasite being implanted in me is sickening. I feel nauseous when I think the parasite will grow inside me, that--"

She broke off, seeing the faces of the elf-women.

So yes, she is distraught that her bodily autonomy is being taken from her yet again. But perhaps the most upsetting part is the idea that she could be pregnant. It physically repulses her.

Now. Let's put this in context.

In this psuedo-medieval-esque setting with royal families, being used as a brood mare is COMMON and ACCEPTED. IN FACT, Calanthe, Ciri's OWN GRANDMOTHER was marrying her off against her will, betrothing her as a child. No one thought this was weird. It's your duty, right? No big deal. Even Geralt, when he first met Ciri, thought it would be a better life for her. Sure, it's against her will. But it's physically safe and luxurious. And he leaves her behind in Brokilon.

But at some point, Geralt puts two and two together. He connects his trauma with hers. He makes a decision that even if almost no one around him in his culture or on the continent, sees the importance of her bodily autonomy or agrees with him, he's protecting her. Not just against death, but against anyone taking her choice from her. When he is having a mental breakdown in Brokilon, worried about her, he tells Dandelion that he is trying to protect her from what happened to him. He doesn't say, she can't die. Or I can't let her be killed. He says she cannot be alone. She cannot go through what I went through. Here, I"ll let him say it: (Time of Contempt, p240)

"Listen to what?" shouted the Witcher, before his voice suddenly faltered. "I can't leave---I can't just leave her to her fate. She's completely alone...She cannot be left alone, Dandelion. You'll never understand that. No one will ever understand that, but I know. If she remains alone, the same thing will happen to her as once happened to me...You'll never understand that..."

"I do understand. Which is why I'm coming with you."

Honestly, I tear up thinking about it.

And Yen, well, she has a similar arc.

Yen has been abused and used as a tool, and along the way she has accepted that this is the way things are. Yen has even done the same to others. But she looked into that little face, those wide green eyes, and at some point she also connected the dots. There's another way of doing things, and maybe it is possible for a little girl to choose for herself. And even if it isn't possible, maybe the important thing is to fight for it. Maybe Yen can give her whole life to let a child just be a child.

Yen goes through torture and imprisonment for Ciri. She shoots lightning at a god, she shouts at a goddess, she drops through a portal into the sea, she gives up every last shred of political power she has spend ninety years accruing, she WILLINGLY tries to give her own life MULTIPLES TIMES, to save Ciri.

And from what? Death? Not always. At the heart of all this sacrifice is that Yen has made a decision that Ciri gets be a human who is given the dignity and respect of deciding what to do with her own body. To be a kid, not a tool. To be a person. To be free.

So Ciri gets to say, actually, for me, the idea of pregnancy is terrifying and repulsive and therefore, I don't want to do it.

In the end, Geralt, a person whose body was tortured and experimented on before he was too young to consent, and Yen, a woman who was abused and used, and BOTH of whom had their reproductive rights taken from them, decide to love Ciri and protect her bodily autonomy at any and all costs.

That is what drives the story. It drives the narrative. It drives both Geralt and Yen's character arcs. It is, in fact, the entire point.

So it should not be a surprise that abortion, and the right to have an abortion if necessary, is an inextricable part of The Witcher world. No, you cannot analyze these books and find 'perfect politics'. They are not politically correct. And there are many parts I can critique. I mean, we can critique anything. (and I do)

But I find it endlessly interesting that people who are conservative or right wing think that this property 'belongs' to them, and they want to push everyone else out, when all they have to do is pay the most minimal amount of attention and have really only two (2) brain cells to rub together, to see that they are indeed, incorrect.

fic about gale and astarion welcoming their daughter into the world. Gale is a trans man!

The latest addition of the Dekarios' line arrived one stormy and rainy night in the wizard of waterdeep's very own home. Not that this was planned of course, he had come up with a birth plan which involved a hospital, with healers at the ready considering his age and the babe being that of mixed origins.

However, the weather and the babe seemed to conspire against his own plans and just as he entered the transition stage the clouds went dark and a storm came down the likes of which the city had not seen in a while.

Gale groaned painfully as he leaned forward on his knuckles, his hips lifting and lowering, moving in a circular motion in an attempt to alleviate some of the pressure off his pelvis. He had read all the books on pregnancy; human and elven. Even monsterous, just in case. But the practice differed greatly from theory he was beginning to find. His brow was damp with sweat and the small hairs that couldn't be slicked back clung to his forehead as he released a breath he hadn't known he had been holding and the pressure released. Though he knew it would only be a matter of minutes, maybe even less before it would return.

"Astarion?" He called out for his spouse, slowly moving himself into a more kneeling position and adjusting his robe. He was becoming quite agitated wearing this much while being so hot already. But he wanted to be dressed in case Astarion was successful in obtaining transport to the hospital. Honestly, he would Magick them a portal but the birth was taking up more energy than expected. Plus if he couldn't talk during a contraction he wouldn't be able to cast spells.

When he heard no reply to his call he inhaled a little deeper to call out louder this time. "Astarion!"

"I'm afraid Astarion is still out, mr. Dekarios. He is trying to track down a carriage to get you to the hospital." Tara fluttered down onto the bed next to Gale and gently bumped her head against his hip, purring gently. "Is there anything I can do?"

Gale couldn't help but chuckle, reaching out to scratch Tara gently under her chin like she prefered. "Dear Tara, I'm afraid my current condition cannot be helped by anyone but me and my husband." He bit his lower lip in thought, a hand going to his dissented abdomen, reaching down to the base of it and feeling the weight of the baby there. "Although I suppose, in the end it will mostly be me resolving thiiiIiahhhh...."

The wizard blew out the rest of that breath harshly before inhaling again hurriedly. The contractions were nearly on top of each other now and the pressure once again returned with a vengeance. He leaned forward onto his arms again, his rear lifting to rock in an attempt to alleviate the pain. Beside him, Tara lay down quietly, intelligently infering her friend needed quiet to concentrate on the task at hand.

Gale's vocalisations had become deeper and more intoning with each sound, his face burned from both effort and embarrassment from the noises he couldn't help but make in the face of these overwhelming sensations crashed through him. Finally the pressure peaked and-

Gale felt it before it was visible but his body quickly caught up, slowly but surely the bottoms of his brown pants turned dark with fluid and Gale roared through the last of the contraction. Without the bag of waters the pressure increased tenfold and along came a new, desperate sensation.

"Oh, Mystra guide my hand..." Gale sobbed, begged almost, as he pawed at his pants to undo them and get them off, but failing before the urge became too great and he grunted heavily as he gave his first real push.

A minute passed and when it did Gale quickly set about undoing his pants, a worried look meeting Tara's. "Tara, please, find Astarion... I, I think I'm pushing.. the baby is coming Now."

Tara's nose scrunched up as she peered out the window behind her friend, the weather was absolutely terrible, storm winds and rains but glancing back at her friend she shook her wings out with some concern. "Well... I do suppose this is the type of emergency one should be willing to get their feathers and fur wet for. ... I shall return soon, mr. Dekarios." She came up to him and bumped him once more for good luck, slow blinking at him lovingly. "You'll be alright, my dear. Your instincts are rarely wrong."

With that she sprung into action and left the bedroom, out the door and into the cold night to seek out the vampire who had bewitched her faithful companion and induced this state upon him.

it was a relief to know Tara would bring his husband back soon, but then came the realisation that he was now, truly, all by himself... and about to give birth to a baby. A pang of fear hit his chest, but he had no time to think more on it as his belly tightened once again and with a hiss the man bore down once again, a hand reaching down to cup his lips and check his progress. He didn't feel anything near his entrance yet, which made sense considering he just started pushing, but it still upset him somewhat. He wanted to meet his baby.

Another push followed, and another, and another.

Rolling waves of pressure crashed down over Gale like the wind gusts and rain upon the windows as if with each shove Gale gave internally the weather responded in time. Eventually, blessedly, he finally felt just the tiniest sliver of the head beginning to emerge from his folds, followed by a burning sensation.

"Oh, Gods, help me..." Gale whispered desperately as he attempted to pull himself together again after the last position change. His arms had gotten tired from holding up his weight so he now sat in a squat on the bed, propped up by the pillows. Tara had been gone for a while now and still hadn't returned with his husband, he was beginning to worry something had happened to them.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the task at hand required a hundred percent of his attention and before he could really ruminate on it he was back to pushing.

"nnghhhhh.... gghhhahh.. oufhh.." He let out a deep breath before inhaling and bearing down once more, he could feel himself progress now, the baby's head stretching him further, the widest point was just coming up now. He just had to keep going.. "ngg- ah- AH!"

With a gasp the head emerged with a splash of fluid right into their father's waiting hand. Gale let his head fall back against the pillows and blinked away some tears, but other tears had already fallen as the oxytocin worked its way through his system. Relief, love, belonging, that was his baby that he was cradling in his hand. His heart swelled with excitement even if he was fearful of being alone while this was happening.

One more contraction came and went with little progress much to Gale's dismay, the shoulders where quite sharp and it was difficult to rotate the baby on his own even with two hands, he couldn't tell what he was doing. Tears of fear pricked at his eyss again.

"Come on, love ... please help, papa here... oughh..." His face scrunched up as he tried to give another shove, the shoulders moving forward slightly but always retreating again by the end. He was at his wits end. "Ooh.. oh... please.." His head rolled to one side as his eyes closed, attempting to rest. "Oh Gods, help me..."

A commotion of sounds came from the living room and Gale's eyes snapped open to the sight of an absolutely drenched and ravaged Astarion, holding an equally disheveled Tara. "Gods!" Astarion complained, throwing his hood off his head, his hair was soaked flat. "There are no carriages whatsoever. And the wind nearly blew Tara halfway across Waterdeep, I-"

The sight of his beloved whimpering, his eyes shut tight and in the middle of what appeared to be quite an intense push, baby's head out but the shoulders seemingly unwilling seemed to kill all other words of complaint Astarion had as he uncerimoneously dropped the thressym (who luckily always lands on her feet) and rushed to shrug off his outdoor cloak and gloves to place his hands over Gale's cupping their child. His voice shaking as he asked: "What can I do?"

Gale hissed, breathing through his current contraction rather than pushing as he had found the last few times unhelpful. 'H-help me turn them... shoulders..."

Astarion looked down at the little babe between his beloved's legs, noticing the little white hairs on their head and the floppy ears of a newborn elf, he couldn't help but marvel at it. But soon enough Gale's miserable groan brought him back to his senses and he cupped the baby's head gently with both his hands, reaching onto their little jaw and what was visible of their neck to have a firm hold and gently began rotating the baby's head when Gale gave a whimpering push.

Under Astarion's careful guidance (Bless Halsin for that), the shoulders finally rotated and freed themselves followed by the rest of the baby, right into Astarion's waiting hands. Marveling at the sight of her he quickly placed the new half-elfling against Gale's chest, still robed as he did not have the time nor mental capacity to disrobe during everything. The baby immediately letting out a loud wail. "Gods, Gale..."

Gale smiled at him tearily before looking down at the little elven girl. "She's perfect."

Outside the wizard tower in Waterdeep the storm had let up, giving way to a clear sky with a bright full moon.

Maybe you’re already rolling your eyes at me or you instinctively put up a shield to protect yourself from potential harm. Sit with this question for a moment longer if you can. What kinds of possibilities begin to unfold for you as you let yourself imagine what it would take to be able to answer yes?

When I asked myself this question, it led me to other questions: What if queer and trans people had the resources we needed to create and sustain our own community-led forms of care and healing in ways that are expansively available to everyone who wants them? What if we could always trust in getting health care that felt good, accessible, and even pleasurable, wherever and whenever we needed it? What if it felt safe enough to bring our whole selves into the process? What if health care felt healing and helped us flourish?

What if all health care providers and healers genuinely honoured and valued queer and trans people, worked collaboratively with us, and trusted in our expert knowledge of our own bodies? What if health and healing were widely understood not as individual responsibilities but as processes that happen collectively in communities? What if all health care and healing was built on a foundation of antiracism and disability justice? What if the care we received was rooted in a commitment to our liberation and the liberation of all people?

And my honest reaction to that is Fuck you

First off Trans people litellary everywhere keep on telling you that clothes are just a pice of fabric and faminity and masculinity don't equal gender

Second off You have no right to enter a space of a group youre not in and tell that group what they should be offended by Based on how YOU, NOT A PART OF THAT SPACE, COMMUNITY OR GROUP feel

Not our fault you need fabric to help YOU respect OTHERS as if you were a baby needing arrows everywhere to know where to look at becuse youre too dumb to figure it out yourself

The Fool - Takua/Takanuva

Simply put, Takua and Takanuva manages to be the centerpiece of many events in the BIONICLE lore, giving him the biggest Protagonist Energy, complete with the "Coming of Age"/"Trans Allegory" bit with the Mask of Light.

The Magician - Vakama

Spiritual leader, with visions of the future, a perfect candidate for being the "conduit of the divine", connecting the spiritual realm with the material one.

The High Priestess - Nuju

Being the one who reads the stars for prophecies and premonitions and keeping a Prophecy Wall in Ko-Koro, Nuju fits this one very well IMO.

The Empress - Artakha. Alternatively: Onewa

A being of great creative potential.

The Emperor - Turaga Dume

Specifically because he's the face of authority in Metru Nui.

The Hierophant - Whenua

Was struggling with this one, but I think Whenua fits since he's an Archivist, who likes for things to be in Order and is concerned with the preservation of the past.

The Lovers - Toa Hewkii and matoran Macku

Represents their over-arching relationship and its persistence despite all of the adversities thrown at them by Makuta and, later, Velika.

The Chariot - Kapura

Somehow, he managed to learn to fast travel by being slow, methodical and persistent.

The Strength - Jaller

This is very straightforward: Jaller is a natural leader.

The Hermit - Toa Lesovikk

On the long journey to forgive himself, to get rid of internalized stigma imposed by both his own conscience and the societal ostracization.

Wheel of Fortune - Toa Lhikan

Both the one who guided (with difficulties) the Toa Metru to thwart Makuta's plans, and the one whose Mask served to shape Jaller.

The Justice - Velika

The ability to see past illusions, literally being called Mask of Truth.

The Sun - Matau/Lewa/Pohatu

Honestly, any character that shows optimism and being the alleviating force among their respective friend circle.

The Judgement - Toa Ignika

The consciousness in the Mask Of Light got inspired by Matoro's courage to take an active role in its own fate.

The World - The Great Spirit Mata Nui

Unsurprisingly, perhaps. From being the entire Matoran Universe in himself, to being the centerpiece of matoran faith and creed.

wrote a lil Zukki week ficlet for either day 1 (domesticity) or a silly take on day 6 (political complications).

“How would you raise a child, if you had one?” Suki says. She’s laying in between Zuko and Sokka, and as she says it, she turns her head lazily to look at Sokka. 

“Dunno,” he says, shifting so his arm can continue to be her pillow even as he idly strokes Zuko’s hair. They're wearing two pairs of pants and two tops between them, and it's a lazy afternoon indeed. “I'd raise them Water Tribe, I guess. Teach them to fish. Take them ice dodging. But I'd make sure we traveled, too. Gotta see the world.” 

“What about you, Zuko?” Suki turns to her other side. 

“Uh, they'd be a palace kid, I guess,” Zuko says. “I don't want to raise them like I was raised, but they'd have to learn politics and all that. I'd meditate with them. Teach them to control their flame.” 

“Great,” Suki says. “I'm pregnant.” 

“WHAT?!” 

The men sit up comically quickly on either side of her, staring at her stomach as if they'll see the shape formed by a handful of cells. They're both speaking, voices overlapping, asking if it's real, when she found out, if she's ok. 

“I went to the healers earlier today,” she says. “They say I'm about a month along.” 

“That's incredible,” Sokka says, grabbing her hand, but Suki turns to see Zuko looking stressed enough to start sparking. 

“Zu?” 

“Whose is it?” 

“What?” Suki says. 

“I mean, what'll we tell the Fire Sages? If the kid’s a firebender, of course, they'll need to be my heir— but if they're not mine biologically. Agni, if they're Water and Earth— what if they're a water bender! They can't be the heir to the throne, but there's no way to know— Suki, I'll have to tell the Sages right away—” 

Suki grabs him by the shoulder. “Calm down, love, please. What are you saying? If the child is whose?” 

“Mine or Sokka's,” Zuko says. 

“Zuko. My darling. My fire-lily. My spark.” Sokka takes Zuko’s hands in his, and looks deep into his eyes. “Baby, the kid’s yours.” 

“How would we know?” 

“I'm trans.” 

Zuko turns red so fast he starts steaming. “Oh. Yeah. I knew that.” 

“I should hope so,” Sokka says with a snort.

“I'm so stupid,” Zuko mumbles, but Suki just gathers him in a hug as her quiet chuckles fade. 

“You've been stressed recently, and this is a big surprise. It's ok.” 

“Are you okay with having my heir?” Zuko says tentatively. “I know it's a big thing...” 

“Well, are you okay with having a child?” 

“Yes. Of course.” 

“Then we'll do it. Together.” 

“I still want to take them ice dodging,” Sokka cuts in. “And teach them to fish. But I think it's time we moved to the palace. Don't you think, Sukes?” 

She nods. “Here's to a new adventure, huh?”

OKAY SO I only recently stumbled upon it while browsing the ClanGen challenges on their discord, and basically: you turn one of your Clans into a lion’s pride!

I’ve altered the rules a little bit because, while I’ve got a lot of problems with My Pride’s execution, I think it’s basic pride structure + the naming system is SUPER neat and I’ve kind of latched onto it… SO!!

This is copy-pasted almost directly from the Discord, with my own additions in italics.

“This challenge’s primary goal is for the pride’s current leading male to get his offspring to adulthood and to continue his lineage. He must face many hardships, challenges from rogue males that aim to take his place, starvation, sickness, and many other things.”

**RULES**

All leading males are named -mane instead of -star.

Lionesses (she-cats) are not typically allowed to be in relationships with one another, but depending on the current mane’s temperament, they may be permitted to. [If the male is Ambitious, Bloodthirsty, Insecure, Lonesome, Nervous, Righteous, Sneaky, Strict, Troublesome, or Vengeful, lionesses are NOT allowed in relationships with one another]

Only the lionesses hunt. The mane tends to the borders.

Rogue cubs cannot be accepted; the mane will not waste his energy and resources raising another male’s offspring. Rogue lionesses may be accepted depending on a dice roll (1-2 = accepted, 3-6 = chased off).

The eldest lioness traditionally serves as the deputy.

Senior lionesses do not retire to become elders, but medicine cats/healers.

When a new mane takes over, all the current cubs and apprentices must be killed.

Any adult male joining counts as a challenger. A dice roll ensues: 1-3 = the current mane wins, 4-6 = the challenger wins and takes over.

When a male cub is born, he may stay until he becomes fully named, then is exiled.

The mane only has ONE LIFE. No nine lives for him.

If the mane dies of “natural” causes (ex: sickness, age), the hunt chief will go on her own border patrols to find a new mane for the pride.

Trans and non-binary cats get a bit trickier. The original rules don’t say at all, so I’ve decided to go by COEV rules: Trans males may stay in the pride, as they can bear cubs; trans females are to be exiled; non-binary cats are a case-by-case basis. This also provides more angst story-telling-wise.
