TRIGGER WARNING (please read if you are okay with the following topics): here i am about to talk about alcoholism and drug abuse. i go on about educating yourselves before writing fanfictions about alcoholism withdrawal. i also get into things that happened to me when i was younger (also going through drug addictions) including overdose. mention of death.

i really wish some people knew what alcoholism was before talking about how "y/n got stan out of his alcoholism".. like baby no clearly you don't know what the fuck "alcoholism" even is.

alcoholism is a disease, just like cancer or any other thing that can and will kill you. people with alcoholism (alcoholics) go through a little something called withdrawal (stopping or taking out) when undergoing the.. well.. withdrawal of alcohol..

symptoms of withdrawal are painful and fatal. you can't just "stop" someone from the intake of alcohol.. not how that works, they quite literally, would die. like their body will shut down because they begin to depend on the alcohol to get through a day.

educate yourselves PLEASE before making a fucking fanfiction about withdrawal of "alcoholism".

something that frustrated me when i was younger was when my friends would do these things:

a: talk literal shit about people (mainly their parents or family members) who are struggling with addiction to usually alcohol, cigarettes, or marijuana, IN FRONT OF ME. mind you, i lost a couple family members, including my mother due to alcoholism, so yeah, i fucking know what it's like. AND i was (still am) dealing with addiction when my friend(s) would do this.. and said friends didn't do shit like drugs or drinking so they never knew what an addiction to substance was like.

b: in health class when my friends wanted to sit on their phones when we were watching a fucking documentary about people losing their family members due to drug abuse and overdose. ive experienced an overdose before, and ive experienced loss of multiple family members due to addictions. this documentary was teaching us about how addictive opioid drugs can be and how they can and will affect the rest of your life. and my fucking friends were sitting on their phones PLAYING GAMES.

and yeah i get that this is stupid shit and that i could've been "overreacting" but i was 14, and not a moron. i knew better than to disrespect people like that. it aggrevated me (still aggrevates me thinking about it) knowing that my friends didn't care about the amount of people fucking dying due to drug use, and how their stupid game was soo much more fucking important when they could have played it any other time.

having a drug addiction is hard especially when you're young and stupid. doing drugs at school was an everyday normal thing for me. and for the record, drugs are not cool for anyone who may be young who's reading this right now. dont fucking do them because it's so ridiculously scary.

a little under a decade ago, i had this older man, he was i think 21 or something (i was 13), come over to my house to give me nicotine. he ended up bringing a blunt that he offered me to hit and so i did. i took say six hits and found out later that it was laced with what i believe was crack(?). i overdosed and fell asleep in my dad's bed after walking in there freaking out literally screaming, crying, and shaking so bad that i probably gave my poor dad a fucking heart attack. and to this day i think of that and think about how my dad saved my life. and i think about how my dad never yelled at me for smoking, never got mad at me, and never told any family members about it to save myself from the confrontation. my dad is the best man ive ever met in my life (no shit my standards are so high and nobody will settle with me😂).

i trusted him because he was one of my bestfriends boyfriend. i am no longer associated with either of these people. i should have kept in mind that my friend was 15 years old dating this 21 year old man who was literally in love with her and wanted her to be his wife for life.. and this proves that no matter who it is, you can never trust anyone. it's so fucking scary.

if you're in the midst of a drug addiction, i wish you the best of luck and my only advice is to try your best to ignore the craving, and please please please, say no.

if you're just beginning the use of drugs/substances, don't make it an every day thing. make it a friday thing you do with your friends when you're out. have a drink once in a while. but never drink too much. never smoke too much. just stay safe.

people can easily take advantage of you while under the influence of any sort of drug. it's disgusting, but that doesn't fade the fact that it is reality.

the reality of this post is to make awareness to those struggling with addiction, and to get those who don't know what addiction is like to stop fantasizing it or romantisizing it. it's disgusting.

also it's my birthday soon and im finally turning 23 after what has felt like the longest year of my life. thanks for listening to my little tangent about drugs lmao.

Confessions of a Recovering Genre-phobic 1/27/30

Hey Whores;

Honestly I don't have much to say about this week. Since I write these blogs over the course of the week I kinda forget the things that happen at the beginning and end of it.

I did get my hair dyed so thats what up.

Can't Stop Shan't Stop (2013) - Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer

Genre: Rap Length: 43 Minutes (15 Tracks)

Wanted to start off with an easy peasy album to begin the week.

Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer is a novelty act by Jim Burke, working in the 'Chap-hop' genre. Chap Hop being a form of novelty rap combining traditional hiphop with Rap sung in a Recieved Pronunciation British Accent. What a yank like me would call a Posh accent.

Its a form of Novelty Rap, like nerd rap, but centers around traditional britishness like Teas, Crumpets, Wickets, Cobblestones, and so on.

Its hard a strong opinion on Novelty music like this. It can be enjoyable and as the genre goes Mr. B is platinum but like showtunes at a party at some point you kinda want to stop singing about Yellow Ribbons.

Public Void (2020) - Penelope Scott

Genre: Pop Length: 26 Minutes (7 Tracks)

Listening to on a whim.

Public Void is the second album by Penelope Scott a bedroom pop artist if any exist.

Released during the pandemic the songs 'Rat', 'Lotta True Crime' 'Cigerette Ahegeo' immediately hit public conscienceness. Theres a lot to love about this album.

The confessional lyrics, the anger and despair, the also memetic style of music production with its references and 'video game noises'.

There is something really lovely about this that I have no choice but to stan.

Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends (2008) - Coldplay

Genre: Pop Rock, Art Pop Length: 45:49 (10 Tracks)

Baby we have all heard Viva La Vida.

TBH I've never been the biggest fan of coldplay which yes shoot me dead. I don't think I ever disliked there music, the soft soportific pop rock sung by the sensitive falsetto emo that is Chris Martin. It's is good music and I get why they have there fans. I think maybe for me it was internalized homophobia? There was in my memory a certain stigma against liking Coldplay seeing it as this kind of thing that only faggots and queers listened to. I remember very specifically this early episode of Bones that lays that out which is another entire tagent for how that show handled queerness and gender performance.

I don't have much to say about this album. Its a really beautiful setlist and theres some really beautiful moments on here.

The Resistance(2009) - Muse

Genre: Prog Rock, Space Rock Length: 54:19 (11 Tracks)

This is the reason why I thought Muse was an 80s band.

The fifth album by English Rock Group Muse, The Resistance is apparently a concept album and definietly a space rock album. Have you ever heard 2112 by Rush? Girl its just like that but with less obvously plot. Either that or I just read the liner notes for that when I read Ready Player One.

This is a fantastic album. Just amazing technical rock music and it even ends with a 13 minute solo number whats not to love.

The Second Annual Report (1977) - Throbbing Gristle

Genre: Industrial, Noise Length: 39:32 (9 Tracks)

Not sure I mentioned this but one of the resources that I used to pick the albums for this questline was a best albums ever article. pretty sure it was this one.

So Throbbing Gristle is a British Band that was pivotal in the emerging Industrial music scene in the 70s. Industrial Music is exactly what it sounds like. Its a mixture of rock and eletronica that focuses on harsh, noiselike sound. Like the sound of industrial machinery. Theres also a focus lyrical on taboo or messup subjects. You get it. Its the type of shit you would hear at a wearhouse rave.

Theres something very interesting about this album. Its experimental obviously. I'm currently listening to Maggot Death Part 1. And its strongly reminscent of Exquisite Corpse by Baushuas.

Its like dark shoegaze. Where your dealing with these drifting etherial soundscapes, the voices are hazy and distant. and it feels trance like and estoeric. It's really freaking fascinating and I'm not sure if I have better words to describe then that. Also the album ends with a 20 minute track so theres that.

Camp (2011) - Childish Gambino

Genre: Hip Hop Length: 56:06 (13 Tracks)

Ok why have I never heard this album before.

Camp is Childish Gambinos first studio album which I am learning means that it was produced by a music studio hence the name. This is opposed to an independant released album of which he had three? before this. and thats a rock fact.

Theres something really fantastic about this album. In some ways it sounds like the more modern hip hop that I am slowly becoming accustomed to but it other ways it reminds me of the older gangster rap albums. I mean it opens with a lament about his cousin who took to the thug life and how thats made them fall apart. He talks a lot about his success and how he dealth with his differcult upbringing and living in a predominantly white neighborhood affected him.

And in honor of me beuing the whitest person in this room let me casually point out that if you look at the mythic cycle of gangster rap clearly this is some hood shit. This is a rap narrative, this bitch is the og spell it fagggot with three 'G's.

This is fantastic Childish Gambino has murdered this track, served cunt, and watered my crops. What more can I ask for. Also special shoutout closer That Power. Iconic.

Apparently her to new album is going to be released at the end of february and it already looks bomb as hell. There are a few things happening here in town. They're telling Dave AKA Dan to vacate the premises because she did not renew her lease because he won't leave the premises first and he was saying things like he'll never leave you'll just sign it and I'm going to stay here and my husband doesn't know when the lease expires. He was there when he got there and it was February and at least could have expired December 1st did not January 1st because he had a car before that well before it and he was doing other things so we do understand that and he did the incident before it so it was before the December 1st we understand these things but it is supposed to be renewed and it's true too at the end of December well January 1st so he doesn't feel like he has to move out but the girl is telling him I don't think I'm going to renew it I don't want to deal with you you're not the one to talk to and I don't want to live there it's for bullies and idiots and people don't care about getting hit there's a lot of people getting hit who live there and she said it doesn't matter what you do it's too hard and he's saying himself this place is very hard it's a stupid arrangement apartments worse and they keep on laughing but really that's what it is

-there's a huge number of people who are harassing him but really there after the pseudo empire and are trying to use threats on my husband and their cheese these people are idiots and Stan is an idiot I've never seen so many stupid people in my life and he doesn't obey the law and all this means he's in charge it's really gross I've got enough of this this talk from them how you're in really good shape and stuff it's starting to be disgustingly rude you're so dumb here

-there are differences in the numbers and we will go over them there's about five areas that are very very low now and we're not what is New England they're 35% of the original bunkers and those bunkers are down to 30% each the other is the upper Midwest it's down to 25% of the bunkers and 10% capacity and the Midwest the Northwest is empty the Southwest is Cheyenne and the max and the East is at 35% of the original bunkers and about 15% capacity by average some of them are going to go in the rest real fast. It's starting to go like that all over but another area is from the 1000 to the Congo and or Amazon they're at 50% of the bunkers but they're all 10% and they're all going to be out today probably all the bunkers and the next row will be the empire but as they're taking them out they are going after ground bases as well. And will update everything in a few hours or earlier.

-the ground bases number about 400 of the pseudo empire most of them are class b or c lasers but they are very powerful and full power they're still those classes they are at 300 of those bases and not the starkiller yet but they will be that is the class a laser they have 20 of those for some reason they do things backwards I guess they want to take out the lot of them and they think they can sit there with a big ones to risk. Now these ground bases are firing on them they're also hitting ships and the 4.5 billion is now about 4 billion and it's going to be smaller shortly but the bases that they're attacking all right about 70% but they started this morning and they are also being attacked at their own feeling places it's the warlock because they are stopping them from fueling because the fuel depots are at some of the bunkers there using bunkers and fuel depots it's not a great system but some people do it that way. There are other things going on the ships are being attacked down below and they're attacking the clones 30% and the max 70%. The max are under extreme duress no the small forces they're going in finding out it's them all over the world and they're getting information on how much stuff they have and their flabbergasted

It's a few more things in town they are preparing eviction notices for about 400 people all around town on houses that they want to take and it's the pseudo empire they're gaining ships now they have about 12.5 billion in service and about 1.5 billion they're repairing and they're going to be very big in space and they will take over areas of the warlock who will be much smaller and devastated in areas and they'll still be in power. And they developing strategies it's a little bit smarter than it was but they needed to leg up and they got it just the other morning and it laid into it early this morning and a big way. And they're also taking ships out of the ground and it's the pseudo empire and they do know what they're doing it's a lot of them.

-my husband's medicine is coming it's left in New Jersey and it is heading south and they're not trucking it but it flies to a couple areas there's a way and that's in North Carolina and there's a lot of people going there just like they did in Friday the 13th and they're going to get information and they're going to get slaughtered and then they go to Georgia tomorrow when the trial is on and the Trump's think they'll do something and got us in their bunch of hogs they get their asses kicked and it's going to happen shortly.

Couple more things these people are a pain and annoying and it's going on all day everyday and it is disgusting you're planning measures and it's forced and they're going to regret it and they don't have it every time they try and do something nearest they disappear completely and the pain just losing parts orders and turns into a little baby and people kick the s*** out of them is right now they're working together I want them out of there they have no right to be there messing with my husband at all a bunch of wieners and losers I'll tell you what this guy got beat up by a bunch of Latinos and he doesn't know how to defend himself against foreigners and they're going to kick his ass. Right now Dave is leaving and he has like 20 days try and get his sister to renew the contract and stand to say he has to move out first and it's not true since trying to hold out to later in the month to renew it so he's still there in other words he wants her to renew it a little later on which one really matter because he'll cancel the contract if there's someone there and won't let her move in so it doesn't really matter to her no not really she can write the contract and in a week or so and he'll still sit there and say he's going to stay and if he stays he's going to be evicted. And the same thing happened with Trump because the end of it he was saying if we don't leave they'll just kick us out for her to come in and Terry will say they say that all the time so they left for a different reason and the reason is they want to return a different characters and they're going to get fired by everybody. It's coming up pretty quick I'm Thailand as some things that they want to look at and see if it's cadmium and there's also in Tunisia that's what it's all about people think it is because of the electromagnetic activity

Karen and Azul: A Way to Her Heart

"Hm? This? Oh, it's actually a replica of the heart of a goddess!"

🐙 If I remember correctly, she was a goddess who could make life grow from her fingertips until her heart was stolen, yes?

"That's right! Many thieves wanted to steal her heart and gain her power...super scummy, don't you think?"

🐙 Of course. One should at least pay back what they owe, right?

"If they needed it to help someone, I would understand...I know I would give my heart if someone asked…"

Relationships

Azul: Looks up to him. Karen is enamored with him and the tweels because they're merpeople. Since she's a human, she feels out of place in their dorm. Azul assures her that she belongs there and he appreciates how big her heart is. Their relationship is a bit sinister because of how often Azul uses her affection for his own benefit. He constantly pushes the limit to see just how far she's willing to go to please him. Karen is convinced that Azul is a sweet guy. Many students are stunned by her attraction to him, but she sees his true colors.

Floyd: Calls her Namako because she's very squishy and soft like a sea cucumber. He's got an interest in pissing her off even though she insists that it would not be safe. This frustrates Karen, but she tries not to be so hard on him. Most people aren't willing to put up with his mood swings, but Karen is willing to work with him and is sympathetic. Floyd does appreciate this and he will often shadow her when he's flaking on something else.

Jade: He's well aware of the dynamic between Azul and Karen. He finds it interesting that she's so interested in merpeople and will tease her about not having a tail. Of course, she'll never sign a contract, but he knows that it's only a matter of time until Azul crosses that line. And he'll let him. After all, what fun would it be to pause a soap opera before the climax? At the same time, he pities Karen for her taste in men so he'll be happy to spill tea when the fallout happens.

Jack: These two are surprisingly friendly. Karen is a little too chatty for him, but she tags along with him and Vil for their morning workouts. Jack lets her talk his ear off because it often involves her venting. She's just a little lonely. She's scared of dogs, but Jack seems different. She hopes to pet him one day.

Epel: Same homeroom. Karen and Epel don't interact much, but they share stories from their small hometowns with each other. They also exchange fruits.

Jamil: Karen developed feelings for him during the VDC competition. They both love to dance and are great dance partners. Jamil gets shy when Karen compliments him, but he's not rejecting her either. He's fond of her but keeps her at a distance. He doesn't want to show her his real personality. Jamil also warns her to be careful around Azul and it adds to the long list of reasons why he dislikes him. She's similar to Kalim but much more responsible and respectful. Karen is scared to admit that she has feelings for him because he's so cool.

Trey: She and Didi like to drag him along for a baking session. Ever since they heard he grew up in a bakery, they all but beg him to show them some techniques. The oyster sauce bit never worked on either of them and they groan at his dad jokes.

Blandina: Great friends. Karen is teaching Didi how to swim. They also share a lot of similar hobbies such as baking and reading manga and romance books. They also like to gush about actors together. Karen knows that she has a crush on Jade

Every Single Issue I Have With S*lki (It’s Not Just The Selfcest)

Here goes. I threatened to post this a few days ago and never did, but I just saw a s*lki stan Twitter account claim that Loki caring about Sylvie more than the whole multiverse was a Good And Romantic thing and it pushed me over the fucking edge, so now you all have to read this. I’ve divided it into categories cause there’s just THAT much.

OOC Bullshit

• First and foremost, no amount of mental gymnastics you do will ever make me believe that this specific Loki- the one that just invaded New York, that just came off a year of Thanos Torture, that just got done being influenced by the sceptre, that was literally in the middle of a crisis already, and then on top of that went through all the trauma of Ep 1- would even be worried about a romantic relationship. That would be the furthest thing from his mind. Go back and watch how he acted in Avengers- you think that guy would abandon his previous mission to become a snivelling simp for a girl he’d just met 3 days prior? Yeah, there’s no universe in which that makes sense.

• “It’s very in character for Loki to fall in love with himself lololol-“ NO, it’s literally not. Out of all the characters in the mcu, I don’t think I can think of anyone that genuinely hates themselves more than Loki. He even referred to all his other male variants as “monsters” and said meeting them was “a nightmare” in this series. He’s got so much self-loathing, plus the fact that he genuinely thinks himself to be an evil backstabbing scourge- so there’s no evidence at all suggesting that he would ever develop a fondness for, or even be inclined to trust, another version of himself, after only knowing them for 3 days.

• Building on that, the whole concept of Loki falling in love with a version of himself just feeds into the annoying ass misconception that he’s a narcissist. No matter which way you stack it, he’s not. If you’re referring to NPD, he doesn’t fit the criteria, and if you’re saying “narcissist” just as a slang term meaning “selfish and arrogant”, that still doesn’t accurately describe him. But when creators like Waldron and Herron do things like having him fall in love with himself, it makes it so much easier for casual viewers to think that he is.

Shitty LGBT Rep

• It’s kinda sus that Loki’s are allegedly genderfluid and yet the only female-presenting variant we see (and apparently the only female-presenting variant there is, cause the male Loki’s all seemed unfamiliar with the concept) is treated as some kind of mind-bogglingly special paradox. Also very sus that, out of all the Loki variants, the one our Loki falls in love with just so happens to be the only female one. What a coincidence.

• The fact that the creators of the show went around bragging about Loki’s bisexuality and Marvel purposefully (lbr) allowed stories about Loki possibly having a male love interest to circulate, specifically enticing queer viewers to watch the show (you know, the definition of queerbaiting), and then instead of having a male love interest (Loki was the first queer main character, so it was the perfect opportunity) they gave us *gestures to this dumpster fire* this… it’s just a middle finger to LGBT fans. The fact that they would rather have this relationship with all its myriad of problems than have a gay relationship is just……. Very telling.

• While him being with a woman obviously doesn’t refute his bisexuality, the fact that they showed/talked about him being interested in 3 different women (flight attendant, Sylvie, Sif) and never even hinted at him being attracted to a man, definitely makes it seem like they were trying to cover up his bisexuality to smooth things over with the more homophobic viewers. You know? It’s like “I know you’re pissed that we sorta confirmed Loki as bi, so we promise we’ll never mention it again! Or even hint at it! As a matter of fact, we’ll give him lots of female lovies and make him seem as straight as possible! That’ll take your mind off of that horrible crumb of queer rep, right? Please please please keep giving us your money!!!”

• Aside from all the other issues, at its core, the biggest reason why I think I’m so irritated with s*lki is that it took one of the most interesting, complex, and diverse characters in cinema atm and squished him into a tired ass unnecessary heteronormative subplot…. Like literally every. single. other. protagonist. ever. Loki is such a unique character, and it’s so so so incredibly disappointing that they stuck him into that same boring cookie cutter romance that happens to every other character in every other movie I’ve ever seen. It’s a disservice, and it’s honestly just not compelling or entertaining at all.

Thematic Issues Galore

• His arc didn’t need a romance. With anyone. It was unnecessary and it didn’t make sense plot-wise. In fact, one of the reasons he was my fav prior to this was because he was the only big-name mcu character whose story wasn’t muddied-up by a romance that didn’t need to be there. So much for that.

• He wasn’t emotionally ready for a romantic relationship with anyone. Hell, just a genuine friendship would’ve been pushing it for him at this point. He was in such a bad state that any relationship he got into would’ve been toxic and unhealthy for both him and the other person, and it doesn’t make sense why the writers would want to put him in one when there were so many cons and essentially no pros (other than “Uwu aren’t they cute together”).

• Sylvie’s character in general was unnecessary and Loki’s character was robbed just by her being there. The whole show became about her post-Ep 2. They spent most of the time giving her backstory, building her up, telling us how awesome she is, trying to convince us to like her, etc when what they really needed to be doing was building Loki up- cause I gotta say, if I had to describe TVA!Loki in a few words, they would be Flat, Boring, and Weak.

• The romance overtakes the plot. They spend time portraying their supposed connection that could’ve been spent adding depth and complexity to literally any of the characters. They make the big Nexus Event them giving each other googly eyes on Lamentis when it could’ve been so many other way more profound things that speak to the fundamental nature of Loki’s. They have the climax of the finale be “oh no she betrayed him to kill He Who Remains” when it could’ve been something way more compelling (Loki having a moral crisis over whether or not to kill HWR, Loki contemplating the state of the multiverse and weighing the pros and cons of freedom vs order, Loki looking into some What If situations and getting emotional about what could’ve been regarding his family, Loki realising the gravity of HWR’s offer and finally coming to terms with how important he is to the universal cycle, etc etc). The entire plot suffered in favour of a romance that half of us didn’t even want.

• It essentially reduced all of Loki’s potential character growth down to “He did it for his crush.” He seemed to at least have some motivations of his own in Ep 1-2 (feeble as they were) but after Sylvie showed up in Ep 3, literally every action he took was just him being a simp for her. Why did he lie in the interrogation? To try to protect Sylvie. Why did he fight the minutemen and Timekeepers? To survive kinda, but mostly cause it was important to Sylvie. Why did he get pruned? Cause he got distracted trying to confess his crush to Sylvie. Why did he try to get out of The Void? Cause he thought Sylvie needed him. Why did he stay in The Void? Cause Sylvie was staying. Why did he try to enchant Alioth? Cause Sylvie told him to. Why did the multiverse get cracked open, leading to an infinite number of Kangs waging war on all of existence? Cause Loki didn’t wanna hurt Sylvie in their fight at the Citadel and then get distracted by her kissing him. It’s uninteresting and honestly pretty embarrassing.

• Throughout their “relationship arc” the writers do their absolute damndest to convince us that we should like Sylvie more than Loki. And you know what? It’s the most hypocritical shit I’ve ever seen. They preach and preach about how Sylvie’s life has been so difficult/we should feel bad for her/she had it so bad/poor poor sylvie/she had it SO much worse than pampered prince Loki…. But then they never even touch on any of Loki’s trauma of hardships (the ones that have been ignored for literally 3 movies now). They frame Sylvie as a good person and a Freedom Fighter after she spent literal decades/centuries mass-murdering brainwashed TVA agents and showing exactly zero remorse for it….. but then they make it their mission to constantly remind us that Loki is a terrible person and constantly put him in situations where he’s forced to acknowledge his wrongdoings/show remorse/admit to how “evil” he is for being a mass murderer for like 2 years. They show him on-screen having a wider range of powers than her, and perpetuate his whole shtick of being a “master manipulator” or whatever….. But then they make Sylvie “the brawn” more competent, intelligent, and physically capable than him. Tell me how it’s a good thing for a ship to be so narratively biased toward one character.

Missed Opportunities

• If they absolutely had to have a romance subplot, then they could’ve paired Loki with one of the characters that have already been established OR one of the characters that were a big part of the whole TVA storyline anyway. It would’ve been so interesting if they’d revealed that Loki had a history with some of the players from previous films (Sif and Fandral both come to mind). It also would’ve been really interesting if they’d given Loki a love interest that actually had some allegiance to the TVA as a whole (Mobius maybe, but not necessarily. It also could’ve been Renslayer or B-15). Hell, imo it would’ve been cool if they’d followed through with that “See you again someday” line that he said to the flight attendant in Ep 1. ALL of these characters have way more chemistry with him than Sylvie, and they were also already relevant to the plot without wasting half the show to give background info on them.

• If they absolutely had to have a hetero-presenting love story involving an enchantress-type figure, then there’s a whole Enchantress (Amora) that was actually Loki’s love interest in the comics. Plus, fans have been screaming for Amora to appear in the mcu for years. Plus, Tom literally pitched an Amora/Loki storyline way back in 2012-13. Also, Lorelei (another enchantress) is also one of Loki’s love interests in the comics, and she already exists in the mcu (she was on Agents of SHIELD). There were several different established characters for them to choose from. Creating a whole knew amalgamation of a character and going with the “she’s a Loki variant” storyline was just completely unnecessary and made no sense.

• They completely robbed us of a Chaos Twins dynamic. Had they handled Sylvie better and not forced her and Loki to smooch, the two of them could’ve had a really really complex and interesting sibling relationship. Loki could’ve stepped into Thor’s shoes and sort of used that new role to gain some self importance, and Sylvie could’ve finally had somebody to look out for her/teach her magic/be there for her. It would’ve been very aesthetically pleasing, the vibes would’ve been out of this world, it would’ve been way more profound than this bs, and frankly it would’ve been much more entertaining to watch.

• Loki’s relationship (read: obsession) with Sylvie completely overshadows all Loki’s other relationships in the show. Loki and Mobius were literally the focal point of the series in Ep 1-2, but after Sylvie showed up in Ep 3, they barely had any interactions with each other, and Mobius pretty much faded to the background entirely. Loki had the beginnings of a pretty interesting antagonistic relationship with Renslayer (with her wanting him pruned, then arguing with Mobius that he couldn’t be trusted), but after Sylvie showed up the dynamic shifted to focus on the history between her and Ravonna. Loki and B-15 started off very badly and openly disliked each other throughout Ep 1-2, and then in the end of Ep 2, Loki showed a little bit of concern for her when she was possessed, hinting that they might be inching toward a reconciliation- especially considering how obvious it was that Loki was gonna uncover the TVA’s sins eventually. There was so much potential for him to be the one to give her her memories back and convince her to change sides, but no, of course that honor went to Sylvie. In fact, after Sylvie showed up, Loki and B-15 never even spoke to each other again.

Various S*lki Fails

• If they were trying to convince us that this affection was mutual, they completely failed. There’s nothing I’ve seen that even hints at Sylvie feeling the same way about Loki that he does about her. At most, I’d say she has a slight endearment to him. She finds him likeable and she’s grudgingly fond of him, but she definitely isn’t in love with the guy. Maybe she thinks he’s cute and hopes that he gets out of this mess alright, but her mission obviously comes before him- whereas, it’s been confirmed multiple times that Loki cares about her above anything else. She doesn’t trust him, she looks at him like he’s an incompetent fool half the time, she shows little to no reaction during most of his confession moments, and she kissed him as a means to distract him so that she could get him out of her way. Look, all I’m saying is, when you get into a relationship where one of you is way more invested than the other, it never ends well.

• This goes without saying for a lot of us, but the selfcest is just straight up odd and cringey. If you’re cool with that sort of thing, fine! People can ship what they want! But don’t pretend it’s not at least a little bit uncomfortable. Yes, I know they’re not technically siblings so it’s not technically incest, and they’re also not technically the exact same person, but they’re similar enough that it makes things weird. And yes I know selfcest can’t happen in real life, so there’s no way to judge it morally, but neither can most of the other stuff that happens in these shows/movies (the Snap, Loki destroying jotunheim, superhero with powers being held accountable, mind control) and yet we still find ways to judge their morality, because they all mirror real-world events. (The snap= genocide; Loki destroying Jotunheim= bombing other countries; superhero accountability= weapons accountability; mind control= grooming and coercion). And lbr the closest real-world mirror to two versions of the same person (who may or may not share DNA, family, backgrounds, physical and emotion characteristics) being romantically involved with one another is incest. And you can be ok with that if you want- that’s your prerogative- but don’t get pissy just cause a lot of us are squicked out by it.

• The whole mirror metaphor (learning self love via each other) thing just fell completely flat. First of all, having Loki learn to love himself by looking at someone who mirrors him did not, in any way shape or form, require them to be romantically involved. But they were. Of course. Secondly, the creators have contradicted themselves so many times on whether Loki and Sylvie are the same or not, that it doesn’t even really register to the viewer that the mirroring thing was what they were going for. Finally, Loki and Sylvie are shown to have so little in common- and to have only the most bare minimum of similarities personality-wise- that it doesn’t even make sense that Loki would “learn to love himself through loving her”. Like? They’re nothing alike. So how would he make the connection that he himself is actually pretty cool, based on her alone? There’s virtually nothing in her that reflects him.

• I know the objective of the entire show was to convince us of how awesome and unique Sylvie is, but honestly her relationship with Loki just did the opposite. A hallmark of a Mary Sue is having her constantly upstage the male lead, and then having him instantly fall madly in love with her anyway. And that’s.. exactly what happened here. Everything they’re doing to try to force her character to be more stan-able is really just forcing her to look more like their self-insert OC. Which is exactly what she is. It would’ve been so much more satisfying if she didn’t have to try so hard to look cool, if they didn’t have to try so hard to make her backstory tear-inducing, if they didn’t have to turn our protagonist into a snivelling simp just to prove how incredible she supposedly is. Very much #GirlBoss energy and we all know how performative and cheap that is.

• The entire thing was too rushed, there was too little build-up, and it was nowhere near believable. As stated above, it’s ridiculously unlikely that Loki would canonically even be interested in Sylvie, and this show did nothing to explain why he was. He just suddenly was. There was nothing they showed us as viewers that would justify a guy as closed-off and preoccupied as Loki falling head-over-heels for a girl he just met. Their was no explanation, no big revelation, no reasoning, it just… kinda happened. And I’m also severely skeptical of any love story that has the characters go in this deep after only 3 45-minute episodes of exposition.

Seungcheol wakes up much earlier than you do the next morning; pressing a kiss to your forehead as you groan and snuggle deeper into your pillow.

“Baby, I need to go run some errands for a little bit, okay? Just keep sleeping, you don’t need to get up yet. But, I made breakfast and put it in the microwave for you when you decide to get up later.”

His voice is muffled and you can barely understand what he’s saying but you nod; a soft sigh on your lips when you drift back into dreamland. He takes his time getting ready, checking his phone notifications as he gets dressed and places a note on the nightstand knowing that you didn’t catch a single word he said.

‘Hey, did you get everything I asked for?’

Jimin🧍🏻: of course, who do you think I am? Jeongguk?

Jimin🧍🏻: and btw, i’m just giving you a crash course okay? We don’t really have a ton of time

Seungcheol is gone for a lot longer than you anticipate and although he replies quickly to your texts, you can’t help but be curious about where he’d gone and what he was doing.

Especially knowing that the two of you had to film tonight and knowing that everything was up to Seungcheol.

A shiver rolls down your body at the thought and you quickly try to shake off the nerves that seem to slowly invade your body when your mind starts to wander.

“Where have you--oh, that’s… a b-big box? Um, should I be concerned...”

Seungcheol grins, shrugging as he sets it onto the kitchen counter. “Just some supplies for tonight. I had to go pick them up from a friend but I had to make sure everything was right.” He notices the way you can’t seem to take your eyes off of the box; eyes twinkling when he makes his way towards you.

He tilts your head up to meet his in a searing kiss, lips easing into a smile when you wrap your arms around his neck and melt under his touch. You moan against his lips just before he pulls away; staring dreamily at him while his hands start to roam over your clothed body.

“We have a long night ahead of us, sweetheart. Let’s pamper you a little before then, hmm?”

You bite your lip and nod, somewhat shy as you sit alone in front of the camera. “Seungcheol’s still… setting up but he told me to start! I’m a little nervous, to be honest…” Your eyes flit to Seungcheol who rummages through the box in the kitchen and from the angle you’re sat in, you can’t see a single thing he takes out.

Earlier, he’d cooked you your favorite meal and even took the time to give you a full body massage before the two of you cuddled on the sofa and watched a movie. To you, it seemed a little too suspiciously tame and you only found yourself more nervous when he made you drink two glasses of water and ever so quietly announced it was time to start getting ready for the camshow.

“He’s being so suspicious! He was even gone for a few hours earlier today…” You mumble; brows furrowed at the camera before checking the comments.

It still amazed you every time with how much money you and Seungcheol made from the camshows and videos and it made you feel even better knowing that everyone loved the chemistry the two of you had together. There were a lot of video requests and ideas mixed in with the comments at any given time and you were definitely ready to pitch some to Seungcheol now that you’d rebranded your channel to be a couple’s channel instead.

A review of “Journey Into Mystery,” the penultimate Loki Season One episode on Disney+, coming up just as soon as I paper cut a giant cloud to death…

Journey Into Mystery was the title of the first Marvel comic to feature either Thor or Loki. It began as an anthology series featuring monsters and aliens, but Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and Larry Lieber were so smitten with their adaptation of the characters of Norse myth that the Asgardians gradually took over the whole book, which was renamed after its hammer-wielding hero(*).

(*) The early Journey Into Mystery stories treated Thor’s alter ego, disabled Dr. Donald Blake, as the “real” character, while Thor was just someone Blake could magically transform into, while retaining his memories and personality. It wasn’t even clear whether Asgard itself was meant to exist at first, until Loki turned up on Earth in an early issue, caused trouble, and Blake/Thor somehow knew exactly how to get to Asgard to drop him off. Soon, the lines between Thor and Blake began to blur, and eventually Thor became the real guy, and Blake a fiction invented by Odin to humble his arrogant son. It’s a mark of just how instantly charismatic Loki was that the entire title quickly steered towards him and the other gods.

But once upon a time, anything was possible in Journey Into Mystery, which makes it an apt moniker for an absolutely wonderful episode of Loki where the same holds true. Our title characters are trapped in the Void, a place at the end of time where the TVA’s victims are banished to be devoured by a cloud monster named Alioth. And mostly they are surrounded by the wreckage of many dead timelines. Classic Loki insists that his group’s only goal is survival, and any kind of planning and scheming is doomed to kill the Loki who tries. But this ruined, hopeless world instead feels bursting with imagination and possibility.

There are the many Loki variants we see, with President Loki, among others, joining Classic, Kid, Boastful, and Alligator Loki. There are the metric ton of Easter Eggs just waiting to be screencapped by Marvel obsessives (I discuss a few of them down below), but which still suggest a much larger and weirder MCU even if you don’t immediately scream out “Is that… THROG?!?!?” at the appropriate moment. And all of that stuff is tons of fun, to be sure. But what makes this episode — and, increasingly, this series — feel so special is the way that it explores the untapped potential of Loki himself, in his many, many variations.

This is an episode that owes more than a small stylistic and thematic debt to Lost. It’s not just that Alioth looks and sounds so much like the Smoke Monster(*), that it makes a shared Wizard of Oz reference to “the man behind the curtain” (also the title of one of the very best Lost episodes), or even that the core group of Lokis are hiding in a bunker accessible via a hatch and a ladder that’s filled with recreational equipment (in this case, bowling alley lanes). It’s also that Loki, Sylvie, their counterparts, and Mobius have all been transported to a strange place that has disturbing echoes from their own lives, that operates according to strange new rules they have to learn while fleeing danger, and their presence there allows them to reflect on the many mistakes of their past and consider whether they want to, or can, transcend them.

(*) Yes, Alioth technically predates Smokey by a decade (see the notes below for more), but his look has been tweaked a bit here to seem more like smoke than a cloud, and the sounds he makes when he roars sound a lot like Smokey’s telltale taxi cab meter clicks. Given the other Lost hat tips in the episode, I have to believe Alioth was chosen specifically to evoke Smokey.

Classic Loki is aptly named. He wears the Sixties Jack Kirby costume, and he is a far more powerful magician than either Sylvie or our Loki have allowed themselves to be. He calls our Loki’s knives worthless compared to his sorcery, which feels like the show acknowledging that the movies depowered Loki a fair amount to make him seem cooler. But if Classic Loki can conjure up illusions bigger and more potent than his younger peers, he is a fundamentally weak and defeated man, convinced, like the others, that the only way to win the game into which he was born is not to play. “We cannot change,” he insists. “We’re broken. Every version of ourselves. Forever.” It is not only his sentiment — Kid Loki adds that any Loki who tries to improve inevitably winds up in the Void for their troubles — but it seems to have weighed on him longer and harder than most.

But Classic Loki takes inspiration from Loki and Sylvie to stand and fight rather than turn and run, magicking up a vision of their homeland to distract Alioth at a crucial moment in Sylvie’s plan, and getting eaten for his trouble. He was wrong: Lokis can change. (Though Kid Loki might once again argue that Classic Loki’s death is more evidence that the universe has no interest in any of them doing so.) And both Loki and Sylvie have been changing throughout their time together. Like most Lokis, they seem cursed to a life of loneliness. Sylvie learned as a child that a higher power believed she should not exist, and has spent a lifetime hiding out in places where any friends she might make will soon die in an apocalypse. Our Loki’s past isn’t quite so stark, but the knowledge that his birth father abandoned him, while his adoptive father never much liked him, have left permanent scars that govern a lot of his behavior. The defining element of Classic Loki’s backstory is that he spent a long time alone on a planet, and only got busted by the TVA when he attempted to reconnect with his brother and anyone else he once knew. This is a hard existence, for all of them. And while it does not forgive them their many sins(*), it helps contextualize them, and give them the knowledge to try to be better versions of themselves.

(*) Loki at one point even acknowledges that, for him, it’s probably only been a few days since he led an alien invasion of New York that left many dead, though due to TVA shenanigans, far more time may have passed.

For that matter, Mobius is not the stainless hero he once thought of himself as. While he and Sylvie are tooling around the Void in a pizza delivery car (because of course they are), he admits that he committed a lot of sins by believing that the ends justified the means, and was wrong. He doesn’t know who he is before the TVA stole and factory rebooted him, but he knows that he wants something better for himself and the universe, and takes the stolen TemPad to open up a portal to his own workplace in hopes of tearing down the TVA once and for all. Before he goes, though, he and Loki share a hug that feels a lot more poignant than it should, given that these characters have only spent parts of four episodes of TV together. It’s a testament to Hiddleston, Wilson, Waldron, and company (Tom Kauffman wrote this week’s script) that their friendship felt so alive and important in such a short amount of time.

The same can be said for Loki and Sylvie’s relationship, however we’re choosing to define it. Though they briefly cuddle together under a blanket that Loki conjures, they move no closer to romance than they were already. If anything, Mobius’ accusations of narcissism in last week’s episode seem to have made both of them pull back a bit from where they seemed to be heading back on Lamentis. But the connection between them is real, whatever exactly it is. And their ability to take down Alioth — to tap into the magic that Classic Loki always had, and to fulfill Loki’s belief that “I think we’re stronger than we realize” — by working together is inspiring and joyful. Without all this nuanced and engaging character work, Loki would still be an entertaining ride, but it’s the marriage of wild ideas with the human element that’s made it so great.

Of course, now comes the hard part. Endings have rarely been an MCU strength, give or take something like the climax of Endgame, and the finales of the two previous Disney+ shows were easily their weakest episodes. The strange, glorious, beautiful machine that Waldron and Herron have built doesn’t seem like it’s heading for another generic hero/villain slugfest, but then, neither did WandaVision before we got exactly that. This one feels different so far, though. The command of the story, the characters, and the tone are incredibly strong right now. There is a mystery to be solved about who is in the big castle beyond the Void (another Loki makes the most narrative and thematic sense to me, but we’ll see), and a lot to be resolved about what happens to the TVA and our heroes. And maybe there’s some heavy lifting that has to be done in service to the upcoming Dr. Strange or Ant-Man films.

It’s complicated, but on a show that has handled complexity well. Though even if the finale winds up keeping things simpler, that might work. As Loki notes while discussing his initial plan to take down Alioth, “Just because it’s not complicated doesn’t mean it’s bad.” Though as Kid Loki retorts, “It also doesn’t mean it’s good.”

Please be good, Loki finale. Everything up to this point deserves that.

Some other thoughts:

* Most of this week’s most interesting material happens in the Void. But the scenes back at the TVA clarify a few things. First, Ravonna is not the mastermind of all this, and she was very much suckered in by the Time-Keeper robots. But unlike Mobius or Hunter B-15, she’s so conditioned to the mission that even knowing it’s a lie hasn’t really swayed her from her mission. She has Miss Minutes (who herself is much craftier this week) looking into files about the creation of the TVA, but for the most part comes across as someone very happy with a status quo where she gets to be special and pass judgment on the rest of the multiverse.

* Alioth first appeared in 1993’s Avengers: The Terminatrix Objective, a miniseries (written by Mobius inspiration Mark Gruenwald, and with some extremely kewl Nineties art full of shoulder pads, studded collars, and the like) involving Ravonna, Kang, and the off-brand versions of Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor (aka U.S. Agent, War Machine, and Thunderstrike, the latter of whom has yet to appear in the MCU). It’s a sequel to a Nineties crossover event called Citizen Kang. And no, I still don’t buy that Kang will be the one pulling the strings here, if only because it’s really bad storytelling for the big bad of the season to have never appeared or even been mentioned prior to the finale.

* Rather than try to identify every Easter egg visible in the Void’s terrain, I’ll instead highlight three of the most interesting. Right before the Lokis arrive at the hatch, we see a helicopter with Thanos’ name on it. This is a hat tip to an infamous — and often memed — out-of-continuity story where Thanos flies this chopper while trying to steal the Cosmic Cube (aka the Tesseract) from Hellcat. (A little kid gets his hands on it instead and, of course, uses the Cube to conjure up free ice cream.) James Gunn has been agitating for years for the Thanos Copter to be in the MCU. He finally got his wish.

* The other funny one: When the camera pans down the tunnel into Kid Loki’s headquarters, we see Mjolnir buried in the ground, and right below it is a jar containing a very annoyed frog in a Thor costume. This is either Thor himself — whom Loki cursed into amphibianhood in a memorable Walt Simonson storyline — or another character named Simon Walterston (note the backwards tribute to Walt) who later assumed the tiny mantle.

* Also, in one scene you can spot Yellowjacket’s helmet littering the landscape. This might support the theory that the TVA, the Void, etc., all exist in the Quantum Realm, since that’s where the MCU version of Yellowjacket probably went when his suit shorted out and he was crushed to subatomic size. Or it might be more trolling of the fanbase from the company that had WandaVision fans convinced that Mephisto, the X-Men, and/or Reed Richards would be appearing by the season finale.

* Honestly, I would have watched an entire episode that was just Loki, Mobius, and the others arguing about whether Alligator Loki was actually a Loki, or just a gator who ended up with the crown, presumably after eating a real Loki. The suggestion that the gator might be lying — and that this actually supports, rather than undermines, the case for him being a Loki — was just delightful. And hey, if Throg exists in the MCU now, why not Alligator Loki?

* Finally, the MCU films in general are not exactly known for their visual flair, though a few directors like Taika Waititi and Ryan Coogler have been able to craft distinctive images within the franchise’s usual template. Loki, though, is so often wonderful to look at, and particularly when our heroes are stuck in strange environments like Lamentis or the Void. Director Kate Herron and the VFX team work very well together to create dynamic and weird imagery like Sylvie running from Alioth, or the chaotic Loki battle in the bowling alley. Between this show and WandaVision, it appears the Disney+ corner of the MCU has a bit more room to expand its palette. (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, much less so.)

Blood & Ash Characters Most Likely to Die in Upcoming Books

Now that it's been a minute since The War of Two Queens' release and most of us have had a moment to soak it in, I wanted to revisit a list I did last year in anticipation of TWOTQ's release. In December, I compiled a list of the top characters I thought to be most likely to die in the upcoming books in the series. The original list can be found here if you're interested in checking that one out first.

Given the new information we received and the new directions we can see this series headed in, I thought this a great time to re-evaluate the list and see how my personal rankings have changed.

Just like last time, I will be ranking these characters starting with the LEAST likely and ending with MOST likely to die. These characters' placements on this list doesn't inherently mean I wish for them to be there. This is only the characters I thought had a decent chance (over 50%) to be unalived by the end of the series. Let me reiterate that this list is characters who I believe will die by the end of the series, not necessarily in the very next installment.

It should come as no surprise, but there will be MAJOR SPOILERS for both the Blood and Ash and Flesh and Fire series, including TWOTQ. These are my own opinions and should be taken with a lot of grains of salt. More than a shaker; the full refill container will be required. I am also notoriously terrible when it comes to predicting things to come or forming theories for various series, these being no different.

Emotional warning: big sad discussed below so viewer discretion is advised.

If you're new around these parts, here are some acronyms that may be used within to keep in mind as we go:

JLA = Jennifer Lynn Armentrout (author)

ACOGB = A Crown of Gilded Bones (third book in B&A series)

ASITE = A Shadow in the Ember (first book in F&F series)

TWOTQ = The War of Two Queens (fourth book in B&A series and most recent release)

My list in December 2021 contained fourteen(ish) characters. Of those fourteen, only one character was unalived in TWOTQ. So long and farewell to Isbeth, who I had down as #2 last year. I wasn't expecting her departure so soon, but I can't say I'm upset about it either.

Now onto my current list.

#17 - Hisa Fa'Mar

Ooo, this one hurts. This one hurts me. But I’ve read a LOT of fantasy and the ‘bury your gays’ trope is unfortunately strong in the genre. It’s getting much, much, much better, but until proven otherwise, I’ll always add some weight to the death chance percentage if they’re LGBTQ+. I originally had Perry here instead, but I’m not certain JLA would want to invoke the wrath of the Delano stans by hurting his love.

We know she’s one of the people Casteel trusts most and is Commander of the Crown Guard. The woman is frequently in a dangerous position guarding Poppy and Casteel or fighting in their war. It would hurt me so much to lose this huge piece of LGBTQ+ representation, but I see it as a very real possibility. Can I also take this moment to point out that I need to see more of her and Lizeth’s interactions? Their ‘be careful but be brave’ mantra, however cliché some might see it, is probably my favorite inspirational quote to come out of this series to date.

#16 - Eloana Da'Neer

Eloana was much, much higher on my list last year. I’m not entirely sold on the idea of her being left alone forever, but I think her life is in a lot less immediate danger after the events of TWOTQ. Eloana didn’t appear at all in the flesh in TWOTQ. I understand it didn’t make sense plotwise for her to be there, but her absence was noted. I also believe Sera was able to burn off some of her revenge rage on Isbeth and she will now have at least one son to distract herself by caring for and a whole godsdamned world to save. Exacting revenge on Eloana could wait until she dies and Nyktos deals with her in the Abyss.

#15 - Sage

Nothing has happened on the page to make me think that Sage’s number is being pulled, but it’s a feeling. She’s someone we don’t have a lot of history with yet who Poppy really likes and we’ve seen her interact briefly with other characters, like Naill and Reaver. Wolven, who the big three have had a connection to, have been killed in these pages with little warning before (namely Lyra and Arden). It wouldn’t take much to lose Sage either.

#14 - Valyn Da'Neer

After the bonding moments between Poppy and Valyn and the reunion scenes between Valyn and his sons, Valyn suddenly holds more emotional weight than he did just a book before. Considering his wife wasn’t featured in this book at all, it gave Valyn a chance to shine on his own and he did so marvelously. But unfortunately, it does paint a bit more of a target on his back. Like other parental figures in this series, he is now something that could be taken away from some big players in this series, causing pain, but one that they’ll have an easier time surviving and taking revenge for.

#13 - Poppy Da'Neer (temporarily)

The track that Poppy is currently on could see her becoming the ruler of Atlantia, Solis/Lasania, and Iliseeum. That is too damn much! Even just Atlantia and Solis/Lasania is too much! Just a few short months ago, this woman was the maiden. She’s never ruled a toothbrush, let alone a country. She’s barely spent any time in Atlantia, the only one of these three where she was formally named queen, before she had to traverse off to fight a war. Now this is no fault of her own, but how could anyone expect her to take on all of that responsibility straight out of the gate? It’s not healthy for her or the people.

That said, I’d like to believe that something will happen to relieve her of all of that duty. Unfortunately, the easiest ways for this to happen would be if she were to figure out how to give up her Primal powers, though I’m not sure how that could even happen considering it’s fundamentally tied into her life force, her soul. But this is where her death on this list comes in. I wouldn’t be surprised if JLA does go this route, and giving up that power, or even killing Kolis with that power, causes her to die.

But I also can’t see JLA pulling an Allegiant and seriously killing off her heroine at the end, so it would be a temporary sort of death and could even serve to momentarily kill Casteel and Kieran, highlighting the gravity of such a choice as the Joining.

Ideally, this is what I’d like to see happen. I’d like to see Poppy retain her title as Queen of Atlantia and only that title, regardless of her power. I’d like to see Solis stay as its own country for a while, perhaps even change the name back to Lasania, with Millicent and Malik possibly ruling there. And finally, Sera and Nyktos holding their crowns in Iliseeum. This is a pipe dream, but it’s mine and I’d appreciate y’all letting me have it please.

#12 - Ires

When creating this ranking, I originally had him placed higher before I realized I had no concrete reason to do so. We haven’t really met Ires yet and what was said about him in TWOTQ was all from other characters’ perspectives, namely Isbeth and Reaver. I’m sure I won’t have some idea until we actually meet him, at which point it will likely be too late, but I don’t feel secure enough in his living to take him off the list entirely. If everything Isbeth said about Ires is true and he bedded Isbeth willingly, even after everything she did and what she meant to his twin, I would place him much, much higher. I just can’t place any degree of confidence solely in what that bitch queen said.

#11 - Queen Calliphe

To say that Sera has a complicated relationship with her mother is to put it lightly. It’s implied that their relationship wasn’t great before the beginning of ASITE, but Calliphe would try every once in a while to be there for Sera, showing up to practice or just sitting with her for a moment. That all changed drastically after the Primal of Death rejected Sera as his Consort in the prologue. Calliphe, who we know had never been physically affectionate with Sera due to her status as the maiden, gets physical with her, slapping her on the throne before blaming her for their misfortunes and cutting out Sera nearly entirely.

As the book is from Sera’s perspective, we get a front row seat to her conflicted feelings about her mother. If someone, like say Kolis or Callum, were to kill Calliphe before Sera for whatever reason, it could cause untold emotional devastation for her. Particularly if she never has the chance to tell her mother that the Rot was never her fault like she wants to.

#10 - Malec

Originally I had Malec and Ires listed together. Then I remembered how very different these twins are, and how much more of a precarious position Malec may wake to find himself in. Malec will likely wake and have to deal with the aftereffects of his imprisonment, the realization of what Isbeth did in her grief, and his own mourning for the loss of his heartmate and son. That’s in addition to whatever happened before the events of Blood and Ash between Malec and his family that caused him to turn his back on Iliseeum. Eloana swears he was a good man at one point, just made some bad choices. Will he still be that man after all this time and agony? Will he want to be?

When Poppy asked if he was alive at the end of TWOTQ, Nektas answered “For now.” That is probably the most ominous statement at the end of that book and doesn’t bode well at all for this god.

#9 - Holland

Holland’s death would be a perfect way to devastate Sera. Only two people from her life before Iliseeum seemed to love her and care about her beyond her role as the future Consort: Princess Ezmeria and Holland. Holland filled bits and pieces of certain essential roles for Sera as she grew, never really fitting entirely into one box: mentor, father, brother, friend. As such, he became one of the only people Sera ever learned to trust, one of the only people she learned to be vulnerable around. The loss of his life could be seen as the final piece removed of whatever lingering innocence or desire for a normal childhood she may have had.

#8 - Eythos' soul

In ASITE, we find out from Ash that Ash’s father, Eythos, was killed and his soul was captured by Kolis. We don’t know what state that leaves Eythos in, whether he is aware or not or if he is any sort of pain. Kolis is also known to grant “final death”: the destruction of one’s soul, meaning the person in question just stops existing with no afterlife. I don’t see Kolis willingly giving up his brother’s soul, but I could see him either destroying it or Eythos somehow behind helped to escape for one final act before death.

#7 - Nyktos’ Court

Just like last time, I can’t narrow down who I believe to most firmly be sitting on the chopping block, but I find it highly unlikely that every single one of them make it through the Blood and Ash series alive. These gods have only been seen in the flesh in the pages of ASITE, which is what makes it so difficult for me to judge who may or may not die. I may be able to decide further depending on how ALITF goes, but as of right now, they’re all lumped in together.

Just as a recap, these are the gods I’m referring to :

Aios – Goddess of Love, Fertility, and Beauty

Bele – Goddess of the Hunt

Theon – God of Accord and War

Lailah – Goddes of Peace and Vengeance

Rhahar – the Eternal God

Rhain – God of Common Men and Endings

Penellaphe – Goddess of Wisdom, Loyalty, and Duty

#6 - Ector

~ ‘Cause I’m an international Super Spy! ~

Sorry for that. In the months since ASITE came out, it’s the first thing to pop into my troubled mind every time I think of his name. Because he’s totally a villain, right?

If he isn’t, cool cool cool, but the way he disposed of Hamid was so strange. In addition to that, after Bele’s Ascension, Ector and Saion seem to be at different levels of wary of Sera. Saion seemed unnerved but solid, like he was just concerned, but Ector read to me as almost afraid of Sera. Ector also seems none too pleased to be used as an errand boy, which we see earlier in the book when he delivers the dagger to Sera. He doesn’t show it in the Shadowlands, but he is asked to do small tasks by Nyktos quite a lot (grabbing a cloak before heading to the Rise, fetching a bowl of water and a towel for Sera, cleaning up the mess after Hamid) and I imagine if he were someone with an ego, he might be chaffed by that a bit.

He also knew Eythos and Mycella before they were killed, which makes me raise my eyebrows a bit because we don’t know who killed Mycella. We know it was on Kolis’ orders, but it’s mentioned at one point that the gods in the Shadowlands don’t know if Kolis can even enter the Shadowlands now that he isn’t the god of death. Which tells me that they don’t think he’s been there since he ruled there, so he couldn’t have killed Mycella. But someone did…

It's also telling that he's the only Shadowlands god we've met that wasn't named in the Blood and Ash series.

#5 - Nektas

He’s gonna die to get Jadis to safety, isn’t he?

It seems like a very strong possibility that one whatever adventures everyone goes on to find and rescue Jadis, Nektas will end up staying behind to fight some yet unknown horror to give Poppy and Co. a chance to escape with his beloved daughter in tow. We’ve seen it played out time and time again over countless forms of media, the sacrifice to give others a chance to escape, because this trope works. When executed well, it’s heartbreaking and terrible in its selflessness. This death would also serve to cause pain to not just Poppy and her friends, but Nyktos, Sera, and their court.

#4 - Nyktos

If you’ve seen any of my other posts on this topic, you know that one of my greatest fears going forward is that Nyktos doesn’t see the end of this series. For a character who is so kind, decent, generous, and brave, it wouldn’t take much to have him sacrifice himself to save others. It could be anyone, from common folk to his children and grandchildren to his court to his queen. I think his death would mainly go in one of two ways: 1. defending his liessa or 2. captured (alive or just his soul) by Kolis to be used as leverage against Sera and/or Poppy.

#3 - Callum

While reading TWOTQ, did anyone else want to punch through their book every time he opened his golden mouth? He’s such an awful person and his death has been promised by several characters at this point, with more to join I’m sure. It’s not even a matter of if he will die, but who will be granted the pleasure of killing him. My money is on JLA giving it to Casteel, but I would love to see Millicent get the chance.

#2 - Kolis

What else is there to say about this steaming pile of excrement that couldn’t be summed up in a bevy of curses that would scandalize gentler ears? Kolis is the big bad in both of these series. He’s so villainous that there’s no point of redemption for him at all, not that anyone would want to see him redeemed. The entire point of the Blood and Ash series going forward is that Poppy has to kill Kolis. It’s the only way to save lives and restore balance to the universe. He is a guaranteed death at this point.

He is also the only character I believe to be virtually guaranteed to have his soul destroyed. Seems only fitting that someone who looked at souls as if they were disposable would then have his own soul destroyed.

So why isn’t he number 1 on this list like he was last year? Well…

#1 - Seraphena Mierel

How could Sera possibly be featured higher than Kolis on this list?

I believe she is the only character still on the board who could have a very real possibility of dying twice between now and the end of both series.

Her first death I’m predicting to happen in the Flesh and Fire series. I have held the belief since ACOGB that Poppy actually died when Commander Jensen's people shot her through the chest. I don’t believe that her dormant Primal blood and Casteel’s blood was enough to save her. I think Nyktos caught her soul before it could cross and Sera actually helped save her, giving her a little life boost back to her newly Ascended body. But Poppy could have saved herself. As we discovered throughout this series, she was born a god (at least from Ires' side and whatever the hell Isbeth gave). She was never actually mortal.

But pieces of Sera very much are, as stated by Penellaphe at the end of ASITE. I think that Sera might end up gravely injured and could possibly even die temporarily before being brought back by Nyktos and possibly someone else (Eythos’ last act as a soul?). It doesn’t help that the Flesh and Fire series has some serious parallels to Poppy and Casteel’s story, with their own unique twists.

I also feel like she will die by the end of the Blood and Ash series. Once again, all conjecture, but if JLA keeps her pattern of making Poppy more powerful with each book, Poppy could very easily end up ruling Iliseeum by the end of the series. I hope this doesn’t happen, I don’t believe she’s ready and I’m certainly not ready to say goodbye to Sera. However, it is a possibility and fear in the back of my mind and it would be so easy for JLA to do.

So there we have it folks. My complete list of all of the characters from the Blood and Ash series that I believe have the highest chance of dying post TWOTQ. I'm not sure if I'll revisit this after ALITF, but I will for sure revisit it after B&A 5.

These are the characters I had on my list of fourteen in December who, after TWOTQ and reevaluation, I believe are safe enough for right now (less than 50% chance of kicking the bucket): Malik (#8), Jasper (#9), Jadis (#11), and Millicent (#14).

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?

I’ve said this before: The Gorilla is not “Adrien’s only parent”. The Gorilla is the jailer who physically enforces the limits on Adrien’s freedom that Gabriel has set. That’s his job, and it’s one he actually does most of the time. In Gorizilla, Adrien and Marinette are trying to dodge him (and Adrien’s fans) long before he turns into an Akuma. In Origins, Adrien tries to dodge him when he wants to go to school.

Yes, the Gorilla is often bad at his job, and sometimes will let himself be bribed into being even worse at it. And yes, he has genuine affection for Adrien, more so than anyone else living in the Agreste mansion (Nathalie stans: Fight me). And I could imagine that someone else in the same role might be worse for Adrien. But still, when Adrien is running towards his freedom, the Gorilla is the person he is running from.

I don’t think he is irredeemable, far from it, and I’m perfectly okay with stories where Adrien decides to forgive him. I just think the fandom needs to acknowledge that there is something to forgive here in the first place.

15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?

I’m still trying to sort my thoughts enough for a long-form post, but basically, I think the strict format hurts the show. There is only ever the one villain; there is only one plot; there is only one kind of threat. If you compare it to other shows in a vaguely similar conceptual space like The Owl House or Buffy the Vampire Slayer (what is Miraculous if not Buffy but happy), you can quickly see where it leaves a lot of development on the table because of those structural deficiencies.

Having multiple enemies in succession means the bad guys can have meaningful victories over the heroes, keeping the threat level up. At the same time, the heroes can make significant progress at times. Miraculous Ladybug just doesn’t have that, and the one time they did have a serious victory for the bad guy (exposing the other heroes), they couldn’t do anything with that.

The show also generally doesn’t have B-plots; at least no B-plots with any substance to them. The time spent on B-plots is instead given to the CGI battles, and to be fair, those can be a lot of fun. But that means there is really no opportunity to develop side characters better because there is no time; even the main plot often feels more like we’re watching a summary than a well-told story.

It also doesn’t help that the show is so strict about secret identities and amnesia for akuma victims and the like. Marinette can’t talk about superhero stuff with Alya (for most of the show anyway) and Chat Noir can’t talk about superhero stuff with Nino, which means those two don’t get any development. And Marinette can’t really reason with an Akuma victim, nor talk about personal stuff while in costume, so in the end the CGI battles are fun, but usually irrelevant when it comes to characterisation and plot developments.

The show seems to address some of these issues, especially with Rena knowing, but still, it’s far from ideal.

It’s a weird thing where it sort of balances out in the end; the show doesn’t seem to have the the time to develop any overarching story well, but it doesn’t have a good overarching story to begin, so it evens out. And they have given me enough bits for the minor characters so that I love all of them.

I’m a bit hesitant to post all this stuff because it makes the show sound horrible, which it is not. I genuinely love it and enjoy watching it. I just think that it could have been so much better if it had chosen a different format.

Not sure if this is unpopular, but it is a thing we’re not really talking about.

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…

Apart from “restructure the entire show completely and rewrite every single episode”, you mean? 😁

I think we could cut Lila, and instead give more time to Chloé. People keep acting like “Zoé is supposed to replace Chloé”, and no, obviously not; Lila is. People also keep saying “the writers hate Chloé”, and again, no, obviously not; if they hate anyone, they hate Lila.

Lila’s job in the show is to be the Cordelia Chase character; the antagonist for the non-superhero side of Marinette’s life. This is the role that Chloé previously had, until Marinette realised partly through season 1 that being the bigger person in that relationship is both easy and fun. But Lila isn’t a good replacement, because Lila has absolutely no character, no depth; she’s either conspiring to make Marinette’s life harder, or, more commonly, she’s functionally completely absent. The writers seem to have no clue what to do with her.

So either expand her role, or remove her. I’m leaning towards removal because Chloé could probably be a better antagonist; she has all the motivation and backstory, and the writers seem to genuinely enjoy making her the center of attention.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

Honestly I am at a point where either the salt has died down, or I’ve managed to block it well enough, that I am basically very happy with the fandom. There are certainly a lot of hot takes I don’t enjoy, but my impression is that these are mostly the results of young people trying critical analysis for the first time, and I don’t want to be too harsh on that.

So… the thing that tends to disappoint me the most is really at the other end of the scale: I think the fandom is way too serious at times. The show is blatantly silly and cracky in every aspect, from its world building right up. Marinette may seem over-the-top, but in the context of the show, she seems to have about an average level of chill. Every single episode, if written as a fanfic, would be pure crack. The fandom is by no means a joyless place, far from it! But I think it could embrace the sheer insanity that is the world of Miraculous Ladybug even more. If you write a fanfic, and the Eiffel tower remains completely stationary the entire time, what are you really doing? 😁

Thank you for reaching out and correcting me. You hadn’t mentioned which duo you were thinking of so I assumed Xkook, but I was wrong. Sorry about that. I cannot confirm that everyone hates Tae and Seokjin, even less so since everyone I’m friends with or have come into contact with in all my years as ARMY has shown nothing but love for them, separately but also together. Personally, Tae and Seokjin are my bias wreckers together and I adore their bond immensely, their dynamic and bond being so fun, supportive, understanding, and cute. As I’ve mentioned in the past, which I’m sure you’ve seen, I don’t see whatever it is you see in their bond that is supposedly romantic, but I have nothing against you thinking otherwise.

Since you said that Tae and Seokjin are a more deserving duo for vlives, which I’ll assume also means that they never had a vlive, I took the liberty and did some research on that. I hope you don’t mind. I checked every vlive done by two members together since 2015 that I could find and put them on a list. I didn't take vlives into consideration that had 3 or more members, and also not ones where the second member was an unplanned and/or very brief guest, like Tae stopping by Hobi’s bracelet vlive or JK calling into Namjoon’s 7 album vlive last year.

Here are my results:

As you can see Tae and Seokjin did have a vlive back in 2015 (though it’s only a little more than two minutes long), the last vmin vlive was in 2016, and many other duos didn’t have a vlive until last year, including Namjin. Hobi and Seokjin, as far as I could see, have never had one together. Meanwhile Yoongi and Hobi have had the most out of all duos.

Fun fact: All the members, except for JK who had 15, had an average of 23 solo vlives since 2015.

You casually sensored their ship name... so pls spare us your nonexistent moral compass.

Perhaps you haven’t read many of our posts other posts, it’s more than okay if that’s the case, but I censor all ship names except for Namjin and Vmin. It’s just a question of us being more comfortable this way. Nothing against the duos and their names.

Have I been cheeky toward other shippers in the past, especially toxic ones? Certainly. Have I ever shaded any duo within Bangtan? Absolutely not. As ARMY I enjoy every bond within the group, including any bonds and interactions that vmin and namjin have with the other members.

This blog is “thoughts on bangtan” but the minute we ask about T*ej*n your real colors come out.

Across 256 posts I believe I’ve spoken about Tae and Seokjin as ship perhaps twice, and otherwise simply as two wonderful members of BTS whom I greatly appreciate. My true colors, well, they are full of love toward them so I’m not quite sure where I might’ve said something negative, since I assume that’s what you mean.

I cannot say that I’ve ever actually received any questions about Tae and Seokjin, only perhaps two asks like yours that called me out in not necessarily the friendliest of ways for not seeing them as having romantic potential and one about their conflict during Burn the Stage. I do have two questions about Seokjin’s bond with JK sitting in my inbox though, as well as Seokjin’s bond with Yoongi.

In my post yesterday I spoke about how I’m sure there is a way for T*ej*nists, and any other shippers for Namjoon/Seokjin pairing, and namjinists to live alongside each other, and even in harmony, and there have been asks since that post that prove as much. Keep shipping trashy Vmin and Namjin all day, while T*ej*n are actually living their best life. Just don’t act surprised one day when you find out they were actually the REAL couple all this time.

As person existing within the shipping community, yes, I only focus on vmin and namjin, since they are the only ones that my careful observations over the years have led me to the conclusion that there is real romantic potential there, but does that mean I have something against people who think otherwise? No. Or against people who ship something else? Also no, as long as they aren’t toxic and keep their shipping away from the members and places where they can see it, like the vlive comments.

I’d kindly ask you to not insult my chosen pairs much the way I would never insult yours either. It’s not a nice thing to do, and I’m sure Tae and Seokjin also wouldn’t like it.

Should the day come where it would turn out, for example, that Namjoon really has a secret boyfriend and Tae really is with Seokjin, or any other member or non-Bangtan person, then I would be surprised, yes, but I would still be happy for them. Finding love in a safe and genuine way in their line of work is incredibly hard so whomever the members will end up in relationships with (or are in them currently) and spending their lives with, I hope they’ll be happy and they’ll treat them well. I hope you feel the same way, even if it might one day turn out that you are wrong.

Thank you once again for reaching out, but unless you would like to have a normal, civilized discussion, I don’t see a need for further conversation and asks about this. Clearly my opinions and yours are different, and as much as I won’t change my mind, you won’t change yours either. Our blog clearly isn’t for you, since we are a OT7 and vmin/namjin focused one, but I’m sure there are plenty T*ej*n blogs out there that you could interact with and read.

pairing: doctor!sebastian stan x biomedical scientist!reader

- Where are you going? - Miriam rose her head from the work bench as Y/N took her gloves and googles off, disposing of both in the yellow bin. - Y/N, where are you going? Don’t leave me alone with the trainees.

- I’m going to get dinner. No eating in the lab, remember?

- Urgh, couldn’t you have gone to dinner when Michael was here? You’re leaving me alone with the trainees ... and the ask so many questions. - she whispered the last part, afraid the trainees would hear her and hit her over the head with their very heavy portfolios. - I’m going next.

- Hour break, don’t you dare page me. - she pointed her finger menacingly at Miriam before clocking out and heading out for dinner. If they had told her during her sleepless nights spent revising for her least favourite modules the most exciting time of her shifts would be the bland food served by the hospital cafeteria, she would’ve just become a pharmaceutical researcher. Yet again, you need to start at the bottom if you want to get to the top and Y/N was more than ready to climb that moment.

She pressed the button for the lift, leaning against her own hand as she tried to wake herself up. Turns out studying and staying up all night applying for PhD projects and then coming to work at 7AM is not the way to go for energy. Luckily, the black tea she had drank this morning had managed to keep her awake, however the caffeine was starting to slowly leave her system and she still had a few more hours awaiting her. As she was about to fall asleep while waiting for the lift to make it to the lower floors, she heard her name being called out.

- Y/N? - she looked to her side to see Peter standing next to her. They’ve known each other since freshers and if there was someone who was always wide awake during twenty four hour shifts it was him. He worked currently in the clinical biochemistry laboratory, mostly coming over to visit Y/N whenever they were working on cardiac infection cases together. - I looked at the file you gave me. CRP is actually present but quite low, could be recovery phase from an infection. My guess with abdominal pain would be a UTI.

- You reckon it hit recovery phase by itself?

- Listen, some pharmacy assistant might’ve given him antibiotics. Who knows but I’d get a urine analysis, do some cultures and see how’s it going but from my point of view, it’s in recovery phase.

- You’re a superstar, Peter. - she hugged him just as the lift doors opened. - You’re going up?

- Yeah, it’s dinner time. I think they’re serving meatballs today. Exciting stuff. - the two stepped onto the lift. - Miriam said Dr. Stan came down today. You’re still giving him hell?

- I am not giving him hell. He’s just constantly sending samples either mislabelled or misplaced and he expects me to lecture his nursing staff about it.

- I don’t know, Y/N. Back at university you spent 2 hours arguing an answer with a lecturer, I just think you like arguing. - he chuckled as the doors opened onto the floor where the cafeteria was. - Or maybe you like arguing with Dr. Stan.

Before she could complain about the snide comment, Peter took to having a chat with a nurse he was particular sweet on leaving Y/N with her mouth open ready to argue and a finger pointed at him. She rolled her eyes, collecting herself as she released her hair from the ponytail which held it safely high up so her scalp could rest for a few hours before it had to go back up. Walking into the green lit cafeteria, the room was filled with half asleep medical staff digging through the bland food like mindless zombies. She did not blame them, she too sometimes would switch off her brain during breaks but lately all the free time she had was dedicated to applications after applications, despite the fact she kept getting rejections every single day.

The scientist grabbed a worn out plastic blue tray, getting a batch on weirdly shaped meatballs from the cafeteria lady as well as some odly too yellow noodles. Hey, it is food, her brain told her as she grabbed a diet Pepsi and a slice of apple pie which was the only eatable dessert around.

- Didn’t you owe me dinner?

- You almost made me drop my tray. - she gave the resident doctor a dirty look, gripping tighter onto the tray. - And I’ll be damned if I ever owe you dinner but I do have your blood culture results and we did sort out your weird infection case.

- It is not my infection case.

- Fine, your patient’s infection case. God heavens if any interns knew that you had an infection, that way they wouldn’t fawn over you. - she rolled her eyes at him, setting her tray in the first table she came over. He did the same, placing his tray right in front of hers before sitting in the metal chair with a cocky grin. - Go away, I’ll send over the report to your office.

- Have you not figured it out yet and trying to buy yourself more time? Or are you trying to escape the dinner date you set up with me?

- That might work on your interns but not on me, Stan. Besides, it is an infection.

- But there’s no worrying levels CRP besides, what about the abdominal pain? Surely CRP and white blood cells would be off the roof.

- Okay, since you probably missed Biochemistry in med school I will explain it to you. The CRP levels are high during initial phases and lower down during resolve. Your patient is probably on recovery phase already. Recovery means it is fixing itself. Do you need me to explain CRP to you?

- If you pulled that out with any other doctor, you would’ve gotten told off.

- Other doctors don’t ask me stupid questions. - she pointed her fork at him. - Dr. Mackie never sends the samples in the wrong vials.

- What about the blood cultures?

- Congratulations, Dr. Your patient is not septic. It’s most likely localised but I’d suggest ordering some X-rays if you wanna localise where it actually is. I wash my hands of your troubles. - she shrugged, wrapping her fork in the spaghetti laying on her plate. - Need anything else, Dr. Stan?

- I remember being promised a dinner date.

- You should get your ears checked, the only thing I promised you was data and you’re lucky I also gave you a data ana ... - the scientist was interrupted by her pager beeping loudly against her belt. She grumbled, looking down at her belt with a look that would scare anyone. - Duty calls.

- How convenient it went off now.

- Unlike you, Dr. Stan, I have a team to lead.

- Sounds complicated, Y/N. You sure you don’t need a babysitter?

She turned around as she was about to leave, raising his middle finger at him before rushing down the hall as her pager beeped uncontrollably. So much for not paging her during dinner time. Someone better be dying, she thought to herself as she slide her card into the door slot to get access. What she came in contact with was not what she was expecting from a laboratory of trained professionals. Miriam was holding one of the trainees head forward whose nose was bleeding all over her worktop bench.

- Miriam, what the fuck?

- Don’t look at me. Thomas ... - she squinted at the boy whose head she was holding forward. - Started bleeding when he smelled the knee aspiration.

- Oh no. - Y/N put some gloves on before walking over to the two. - Okay, Miriam call a code orange. I’ll take Thomas upstairs and get him sorted.

- It’s so stinky.

- I know. - Y/N handed them two cotton balls from the jar to her left. - Put them up your nose.

What would be a day in the laboratory if a newbie didn’t either faint or got nose bleeds from samples? Definitely not a day in her laboratory. She looked around the busy hospital grounds, trying to find any free, available nurses but they were all overworked. No wonder why, whenever midnight rolled around, people started coming in left and right from club brawls and the grounds were always a nightmare.

- What you got there, Miss Y/L/N? Is this how you lead your team?

- Fuck off, Stan. I do not have time to listen to your comments, I need to find a nurse.

- What happened, kid? - Sebastian looked to the 19 year old medical laboratory assistant holding cotton against his nose. - Lab that bad? Come on, I’ll fix you up.

- Thanks. - she mumbled, following the two men into one of the free areas. Thomas sat on the table while Sebastian pulled up a chair to sit in, Y/N remaining up on her feet.

- So kid, what happened? Y/N rough you up too much?

- He got a nosebleed from the smell of a knee fluid from an aspiration. - Y/N replied to him, much to Thomas delight who felt more than embarrassed about the situation he was in. - Is this what you’re doing now, Dr. Stan? Minor cases? Did the chief of medicine finally realised you’re unqualified?

- No. - he spoke as he pointed out his light at the trainees nose, to look for any specific damage. - One of my patient’s in critical care but it seems to have stabilised for now at least.

- Oh ... sorry. What happened to them?

- Sepsis. - he turned off the lights. - Listen kid, it’s nothing to bad. Just stay sat here and firmly pinch the soft part of your nose, just above your nostrils, for about 15 minutes. Don’t forget to lean forward and breathe through your mouth. Me or one of the nurses will come check on you after to see if it has improved but so far, so good.

- I’ll return to the lab. Page me when you’re ready to return, okay? - she gave the young starter a kind smile before pulling the curtains and letting him be. Unfortunately for her, Stan would not let her be. - Keep it.

- How weak are your staff? How are they gonna react to when they actually see infected body parts?

- I said keep it. - she crossed her arms, ready to leave and return to the laboratory until she remembered something. She turned around on her heel, passive aggressive smile on her lips as she leaned her head on her shoulder. - Also, Dr. Stan, the infected tissue samples you sent us had the wrong birthdate on them.

- C’mon Y/N.

- They’re on hold until you speak with the laboratory manager about them. Good luck.

He opened his mouth to fight with her but she had already gotten into the elevator. The rest of her shift was pretty uneventful with her and a few of her colleagues having to pick up the pace to get everything sorted before they left. Miriam and her fiance left first at 1AM leaving Y/N to count the minutes til 2 AM rolled around. Once the clock read 2AM, like a speeder, she was out of that laboratory and into the elevator before anyone could call her. Walking to her parking spot, the sky was dark, the lot light by harsh yellow barely brightening. As she walked over to the second handed baby blue Fiat 500, she noticed someone hunched over and sat on the top of a black new model Audi, smoke coming out from his cigarette. Normally, she would’ve just avoided it and gotten into her car to go home but the turquoise scrubs were much too familiar at this point.

- Dr. Stan? - her boots hit the gravel as she stood just a few meters away from him. - Do they not teach you in medical school that smoking increases the chance of lung cancer?

- Not now, Y/N. - no sarcastic remark? That was a new one. He threw the cigarette butt onto the ground once it was all over, feet rubbing it against the gravel. - Not now.

- I thought your shift finished at 1:30? Pulling overtime hours? Someone needed your assistance? Death time?

- My septic patient died. - she immediately wished she hadn’t said anything. Death was not something she particularly dealt with. Surely, some results were awful, specially in cases of ultra resistant bacteria showing up in the blood but that’s what they were, results. She didn’t see the patient, in all honesty all she would know the patient would be by a barcode number. - Sepsis quickly lead to organ failure. I don’t understand ... she was getting better.

- Sepsis is unpredictable. You did the best you could do.

- And you’d know? All you do is be in the laboratory and do tests. What would you know about it?

- Okay ... - she put her hands on her hips. - Are you on any antibiotics, prescription pain killers, sedative drugs, statins or any antidepressants?

- I don’t see the point.

- The bar nearby has a discount for hospital staff. It’s only a five minute walk and everyone else is so miserable, you don’t feel bad about being miserable.

- I’m not going to the bar in my scrubs, Y/N.

- If you’re okay wearing those ... - she pointed at his scrubs. - Then you are okay wearing them at the bar.

She was right, the bar did look miserable. Not in a miserable way which would require regulation to shut down the place but miserable in a way one would just be at home wallowing in their pity with a pint of beer and right now that was all he needed. He sat in a sticky red booth, in front of her with a pint of beer while she picked a cocktail from the menu.

- You don’t seem like the type of girl who’d come here.

- And I’m not but they sell really cheap burgers at lunchtime. - she put her hand under her chin. - Besides, I’ve done this before.

- When did you convince someone to come to the bar because their patient flat lined?

- You know Dr. Liam Watts?

- Surgery residency? I’ve heard about him before. - her lips tensed in a straight line as she leaned her head on her shoulder. - No. You’ve been here with Bucktooth Watts before?

- Yeah... even after he clearly needed support after he couldn’t save his first patient, he still decided to take me on a date here.

- I’m sorry, you dated Bucktooth Watts? - he chuckled, downing whatever was left of his pint, signalling the bartender to bring him another one.

- This is why we don’t hang out. He’s not bucktoothed.

- Sure, sure. I see the appeal, I mean over Christmas at least you have someone to cut the carrots.

The night went onwards with a bunch of maybe irresponsible drinking. Y/N was two mojitos in and she was already tipsy and giggling like a school girl, not really used to drinking. Sebastian was in the same state as her, trying not to laugh at everything as they stepped outside to grab a taxi. At least both of them were conscious enough to decide not to drive.

- No, you did not get locked in the vroom cupboard during your residency. - she held her belly as she laughed.

- I did and my senior doctor did not notice I was gone. I was stuck there for 5 hours.

- Oh god. - she held herself against the wall. - I always knew you were a clutz. You know, you’re the only doctor who hasn’t told off his nurses about the blood bottles.

- Can I tell you a secret? - he whispered mid laughter. - I am afraid of them.

- Oh my god. - she held her hand on his shoulder covering her mouth with the other one. - See, this is why I constantly argue with you. You’re soft, doctor.

- Arguing with you is the best part of my day. You look really hot when you’re telling me off.

- You look terrible when I tell you off. - the two of them stopped laughing, looking into each other eyes for the first time since they’d been out of the laboratory. Maybe it was the alcohol but at that moment, the best idea to the two of them was to lean towards each other, his hands grasping each side of her waist as they connected the space between them, getting together into a hot long kiss.
