Many are unaware that there is a theory about the origins of Homer’s Iliad, which may be attributed to a woman poet who lived in Egypt by the name of Phantasia. It is believed that Homer heard her stories and based his epic on her verses, which describe in detail the terrible experience of war as well as the human feelings and reactions to this experience.
It’s only a theory, as we don’t know if either Homer or Phantasia were actual persons, but ancient Greek scholars went to study from old sages in Egypt where they heard historical and mythological tales as well as mathematical, architectural and medicinal knowledge from the Bronze Age which were preserved in ancient Egypt. Perhaps the story of Phantasia reflects that ancient pattern in history, the transition from a more matriarchal to a conservative patriarchal society as we notice in the story and life of the Sumerian poetess Enheduanna, the world’s oldest ‘published’ poet. In her work Enheduanna complains of her position as high priestess being eradicated in favor of male clergy. Phantasia’ story, whether true or not, seems to echo this transition. Just as Enheduanna described the virility of the independently war loving, all conquering goddess Inaana, Phantasia, if she inspired Homer, did not shrink from describing the experience of battle between intimate combatants- the clang of weapons and the effects of those weapons upon striking shields, helmets and breastplates or the deadly lacerations of the flesh upon feeling their sting as the packed ranks and masses of humanity were locked in a life or death struggle on some field of battle in the days of yore. Perhaps such freedom and daring on the part of women alarmed the patriarchy of Greco/Roman civilization, and their voters had to be silenced. Perhaps we shall never know, but the mystery of the quest still fascinates us to this day.

Sappho's Reply
"my voice rings down through thousands of years
to coil around your body and give you strength,
you who have wept in direct sunlight,
who have hungered in invisible chains,
tremble to the cadence of my legacy:
an army of lovers shall not fail"

Finally it’s ready! The Nine Muses of the Greek Mythology were deities that gave artists, philosophers and individuals the necessary inspiration for creation. Hesiod reveals that they were called Muses or Mouses in Greek, as the Greek word “mosis” refers to the desire and wish. The word museum also comes from the Greek Muses. All the ancient writers appeal to the Muses at the beginning of their work. Homer asks the Muses both in the Iliad and Odyssey to help him tell the story in the most proper way, and until today the Muses are symbols of inspiration and artistic creation. Thats why this is the great gift and decor for any artist, philosophers, writers, ancient greek, classic literature lovers and anybody need inspiration. Unique reading corner, library and office decor also. The Nine Muses were: Clio, Euterpe, Thalia, Melpomeni, Terpsichore, Erato, Polymnia, Ourania and Calliope. #lesmuses #theninemusesart #theninemuses #ninemuses #greekmuses #greekmythology #homer #hesiod #classicliterature #ancientpoetry #ancientliterature https://www.instagram.com/p/CQSCku5n9St/?utm_medium=tumblr

THE THIRSTY DEMON👇👇. . It wasn't hard, to bear the hunger, for her, I lived. . It wasn't herd to bear the pain, for her, I loved, was loved. . What have I done wrong? To live like this, oh god!. . I did everything I could do but.. I just couldn't keep her with me. . The thirst to blood, that I never felt on her, was finally felt, and I asked her to leave me or she'll die... . So did she?.. no, she didn't, she was ready to do everything to satisfy me and let her be in peace, in heaven. . What could I do?, She gave all of her, and i, became the drunken demon.. . I lived with no more hunger, but I had that pain of my health... . The pain, to become an angel.. an angel who never thought of protecting her soul.. . Her sacrifice, was god's punishment.. of being bad, her sacrifice changed my life... . I lived in the planet of souls, where my heart found it's soul.. the soul whom the blood belonged to... . ......I threw out her blood after drinking, and I cut my veins, sucking my own blood, and restoring my life with her blood.. I kept her with me.. until I became her destiny... The afterlife destiny... ................THE_END............... . #vampire #demon #demonlove #angel #love #sacrifice #poemsofig #poetryisnotdead #igpoet #classic #classicpoetry #ancientpoetry #britishpoetry #shakespeare #wordsworth #wordswordswords #jkrowling #paulocoelho #oscarwilde #atticuspoetry #poetrycommunity #instapoets #poem #poemsoflove #poemsoftheday (at Inverness Scotland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBMAQVrFlpc/?igshid=69ozvnzlxbfl

Arvind Krishna Mehrotra has translated some love poems in Prakrit beautifully into English. 'The Absent Traveller: Prakrit Love Poetry from the Gathasaptasati of Satavahana' has some of the best short love poems I've ever read. AKM, thank you for this gem of an anthology.

Words to live by : Death, be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery. Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell’st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die. - By John Donne #johndonne #poetrycommunity #ancientpoetry https://www.instagram.com/p/BxahxxXnFX9/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=c1dlt1g5ue7v

Recently, I gained interest in ancient history, and some of the more thought provoking archeological finds. I think there is something poetic in ancient ruins. This is a picture from Gobekli Tepe. It is one if the few pictures that are not my own. #goblekitepe #gobeklitepe #ancienthistory #ancientruins #ruins #historymemes #historicalmemes #historicalart #artifact #ancientpoetry #ancients #ancientcivilization #ancientart #poetrycommunity #poetrysociety #lostsociety https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqi_beYlj_N/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ams93h2jksh4
