here’s to hoping for a ✨better✨ next week… _(:3 」∠)_
#really long rant about my ✨work woes✨ incoming— pls lemme have this moment before i cry at the interns on monday—#short summary of my utterly horrendous week go—#on monday: the machines kept taking turns to die (and that stupid self-restarting computer aaaaaaaaaaa—)#tuesday: the machines were horrible (again). and the final chapter of act 1 of the mona manga came out that night (which was much sad :( )#wednesday: was relocated to that acid-using station and got an acid burn on a really inconvenient part of my hand >:(#like yo. acid. why couldn’t you have landed on the back of my hand instead??#why did you *have* to splash onto the left side of the base of my left index finger?? i can’t even wrap a plaster around it and it sucks >:(#thursday: the machines were horrendous too! they refused to pass the daily quality checks!!! and there were tons of samples to load too!#as a bonus this lady kept hijacking the computer to check results or something while i was trying to enter stuff into the job queue thing#(the job queues for the stupid machines that is)#and so i could do absolutely ✨nothing✨ while she did her stuff… and then she complained that my workstation was really slow that day >:/#lady p l s. blame the machines!! and it’s only my literal second day at that station so— :( and you kept stealing control of the computer :(#and then there’s today. friday. (ʘ‿ʘ) the person who loaded the samples last night put said samples into the wrong slots of the machine…#…and so the dumb acid autofiller spewed out acid anyway. which spilled onto the machine and then evaporated (for the most part) overnight#and so! when i popped in to the workstation a good 10 min late (having overslept a little due to believing it was already saturday)…#i noticed the wrongly placed samples, smelled the really strong scent of acid, went ‘ah maybe the toluene reacted with the solvents’…#…and just carried on as per normal. it only clicked that those were acid fumes from the missed samples when my eyes started to water ಥ‿ಥ#and even then i ran off to find a coworker to ask ‘will the thing still autofill if there aren’t any beakers in the indicated slots’…#but ofc i couldn’t articulate properly bc i was ✨lightheaded✨ from the acid fumes. i felt really loopy for almost an hour after that tbh :(#and so i still have no idea how i’m still employed at this place tbh. all i do is blabber nonsensically and forget my coworkers’ names :/#but i think my terrible jokes have become a little more commonplace in the workplace. whoops.#i’d say ‘merry christmas’/‘happy new year’/‘happy birthday’ when i give printouts to others, and now they say it back to me lol#i stg my sense of humour is utterly horrible. no wonder why this higher up lady (probably) secretly dislikes me lol#like she’d say ‘i’ll train you in [test method]’ only to give like a half an hour overview before leaving me to fend for myself </3#on the other hand, she’d train and guide literally every other person for hours on end till they’re familiar with the test method :(#or maybe she thinks i’m too capable (lol). prolly not though. i usually stare confusedly at her like 👁👄👁 through her explanations#well. i think i’m done with my venting for now. see you tomorrow.#inedible blubbering

Haven’t seen a shred of evidence that points to Paul not being a filthy disgusting cunt monger. I am bi, not phobic just cause of this!
But I feel that a lot of people just kind of… want him to be bi? Whether for shipping or because he’s pretty and want to see him fucking men. I mean, I think it’d be great to see Paul get fucked. It would serve him right. But for irl? Very little evidence!
It’s like the PID truthers. People aren’t trying to figure out what’s real, they’re trying to seek out facts that fit their theory, then piece them together.
And that goes for me too! If someone said, hey look, here’s a video of Paul riding dick like a champ! I wouldn’t say “that’s probably heterosexual dick riding among friends”. I would adapt to the new information!
Ngl I’m like 99.9% sure (100% tbh) I know who this is, but I’m too awkward to send a message, so I’ll just pretend you’re a Random Anon lol.
My thoughts under the cut!
I do see the comparisons between PID-ers and people who *die-hard* believe Paul is bi, although it largely depends on the person. For some people, its a matter of interpretation, and so whilst they do believe Paul isn’t straight, they still acknowledge that the belief is largely a product of speculation, and without solid evidence to support it—and therefore don’t expect *everyone* to get on board with their belief; these are the types of people I like to engage with. There’s things where I’ll think “yeah I see where you’re coming from there…”, and then there’s things I plainly disagree with—but I can still appreciate their points as a rational interpretation.
I do see some overlap between the PID community and the mcl*nnon (don’t want this to end up in the tag) community at times though. This normally comes in the form of people looking Too Deeply into the semantics of certain quotes. When it comes to interviews, although Paul does tend to be quite carefully calculated (as in, he knows the types of things he’s likely to be asked, and therefore has an idea of what he’ll say in response), I still think a lot of what he’s says is basically just what it says on the tin. I can’t articulate this with a lot of eloquence, but sometimes you just Say Things. The exact terminology or pronouns (i.e him saying “they” or “someone” in place of “she” or “woman”) Paul employs in interviews I don’t feel have that much relevance to be honest. Everyone is somewhat awkward and inarticulate at times, and so off-the-cuff remarks I don’t believe have much, if any, significance.
And then when I’ve enquired into why people do believe that John and Paul had a sexual/romantic relationship, often people have responded with the “Look at how they look at each other!” argument, which is essentially meaningless to me.
And a lot of this can parallel the same techniques I’ve seen PID-ers use, especially when they take snippets of quotes and interviews, and then replay them with an over-focus on the semantics of a sentence (i.e If George says something like “we LOVED Paul”, PID-ers will be emphatic about his use of the past-tense, when really: its just What It Says On The Tin).
I also feel relatively comfortable and non-judgemental in saying that SOME people ‘want’ to believe he’s bi and look for confirmation bias beyond that, because tbh I think I sort of started out in that boat. Its not necessarily that I *didn’t* believe Paul was bi (like I wasn’t straight up lying), but I think it was a combination of 3 things:
There’s a sort of peer pressure to believe the dominating theory, and especially if you haven’t done enough of your own research yet to form your own conclusions, its easy to get swept away with what other people are saying. I think this “peer pressure” [I hate that term tbh, but I’m not sure what other phrase to use so I’ll just stick with it :/] gets accentuated especially when there’s a lot of people going around with an I-Know-Everything-attitude, and making the people who disagree with them out to be Dumber or Naive (or everybody’s favourite: homophobic) etc.
A lot of the stronger pieces of evidence that initially made me believe he’s bi, I later found out were either untrue, unsourced, or manipulated to Fit The Narrative. Its not something I think happens that much anymore, since people seem more adamant in sourcing and providing context these days—but based off of what I’ve seen in older tumblr posts, it seemed like more of issue from about 2012 to 2016-ish? And since those posts still get circulated and remain at the top of the tags, its again Easy To Get Swept Away.
Going back to point 1, once you do believe something, you’re going to start looking for more ‘hidden clues’, and from then on you’ll be seeking confirmation bias. Once I started questioning my own beliefs more, I found that I didn’t find a lot of the evidence that existed to be as compelling as I once thought it did.
Im not saying this is the same experience Every Single Person has had, and I’m not trying to be hateful either. But I just wanted to share some of my initial experiences in the tumblr-beatles-fandom specifically, since I think there has to be at least a few people out there who can relate.
Essentially though, so long as someone doesn’t go round calling people homophobic because they disagree, or purposely manipulating narratives to fit their own beliefs, I don’t take issue with them, and can engage with their beliefs and content
Final note: I saw this video quite recently, which touches upon the Larry and Camren communities of shipping, and while I literally Could Not Give Less Of A Shit about either of those communities since I don’t like any of those artists, I did find some of the wider points about real-person shipping to be quite interesting. I don’t think everything in the video pertains to the mcl*nnon community specifically, especially since the people were trying to understand are a) from an entirely different generation and b) one of them has been dead 40+ years so there’s only so much we can know about them (and by consequence, how much we can come to understand the nature of their relationship with the other person is limited, to some degree)—but the actual shipping cultures I thought had some overlaps.

This au is so cute! It also seems to follow modulus to some extent so i was wondering how Zula ended up with her toy shop instead of a smithery?
Following parts of modulus' setup is probably the easiest route, tbh.
So, here’s one possibly way things could go down. (I’m not sold on this yet.)
Maybe this 'verse hews even closer to canon than modulus does. So the foundation of the UR and Republic City looks more like what we got in LoK, with the other nations having way more of a say than the local government (and also weird monuments to Zuko and Aang).
The coalition of the indigenous EK peoples and the FN outcasts in the colonies that explicitly had a minuscule chance of success in modulus? That fails here, practically strangled in its cradle. Sozinist views in the colonies grow stronger in the later days of the war, and that doesn’t change in the immediate aftermath of the war, as people try to flee Zuko’s Fire Nation.
A last gasp of the cruel and petty men clinging to whatever remains of their power.
Minh, living publicly as a man despite the danger, never gets a fair chance to make a living. He never learns how to blow glass. Instead, he learned the precision work that he can do better than Thanh, working with his brother directly.
Thanh stays the same. Thanh has loved his brother since the moment he was born and there isn’t a force in this world or the spirit world that can change that. He’d willingly give up a limb if it meant he could give his little brother the world. And since the world here demands Minh carve himself to fit it, Thanh will carve the world to make a space.
And their mother agrees with him. This place will not accept her son, so the matriarch of the Kanuchi clan packs up the whole family and decides to try their chances on one of the outermost Home Islands.
(The entire Kanuchi family might just live by the motto “fuck around and find out”. Over in modulus-verse proper, Asami fits in very well with this extended family.)
When Azula escapes, she runs for the coast. Steals a boat and sails off alone, with no goal other than to get away. Except, reality ensues. Because firebending and military prodigy she might be, this does not translate to maritime sailing. And so the obvious thing happens to an unskilled 14 year old out on the open sea.
Luckily, the first ship that comes across this sad, derelict boat is sailed by people who firmly believe that they owe assistance to any shipwrecked survivor they might find. And the half-dead, salt-encrusted teenager dressed in prisoner rags lying on this boat certainly counts for that.
Two important things about this ship:
the sailors are employed by a certain trading company that has a NWT woman as one of its owners.
the first mate is a Kanuchi, a cousin of Minh and Thanh’s.
Azula gets better on this ship, and the thing about ships? There’s always something that needs to be repaired. So that’s how she starts. Her talent with the small mechanisms reminds the first mate of his cousin, and he eventually tries the idea that maybe Azula would consider an apprenticeship? At this point, Zuko has declared her dead, so technically she doesn’t exist. An apprenticeship not only legally gets her some kind of identity as a ward of the family, but also an identity period. And Azula has to admit, the possibility of going back to the FN without the baggage of being “Princess Azula” is incredibly tempting. That it involves learning more about the thing she’s always been interested in just makes it irresistible.
So despite the twists, Azula still ends up meeting Minh and Thanh. And having those very important revelations about her (or their) own identity.
The cousin, who we’ll call Shin, still keeps tabs. And he’ll come around and check up on Azula every so often, and sometimes they meet up with some of his crewmates. Then there’s one time one of the company owners is sailing on the ship with her daughter on a trip to the FN. Shin has a bit of a dilemma when his employer’s daughter ends up with a very obvious crush on his one-time ward. (Shin is not paid enough for this, but it is priceless entertainment)
Azula’s conflicted. She does like Shujiao but a relationship between two women isn’t possible in the FN. (Azula’s not quite ready to poke at the question of if it would actually be two women, because is she even sure she is one?)
Then Zuko repeals that law. And Shujiao tells Azula to stop being an idiot because she’s not going away that easily. And, well, Azula’s never been one to let incredibly obvious golden opportunities pass by.

i am interested in your hades au, would you mind giving some details about it? 👁 it looks really interesting
[This AU is from these drawings!]
*cracks knuckles* Ok! I actually got enough sleep last night so I'm finally feeling up to explaining this au lmao
Also I hope that by “some details” you meant “way way too many” because I am nothing if not long winded. Also @hades-hellsite asked for context too, here you go
The central premise is that, after he dies, Achilles manages to make an arrangement with Hades that allows both him and Patroclus to stay in Elysium together. He's not employed to work at the house and he never becomes Zagreus's combat trainer.
Hades makes a few attempts to find Zagreus a different teacher among the shades of great warriors, but being skilled does not make someone able to teach. And being able to teach one way doesn't mean someone will be good for every student. When Zagreus doesn't learn well with the few mentors Hades tries, which he barely gives a chance to breathe anyway, he's quick to decide that he must have no martial ability and declares Zagreus a failure in that as he has about so many things.
This has two major effects on Zagreus before his escape attempts begin. One, without any chance to actually grow into aptitude in combat, he's left without anything substantial to put his energy into and, more importantly, he's left without anything he feels good at and that gives value to his efforts. Two is that, in Achilles' absence, very few people in the house give him any care and support untwisted by the politics of the house and the judgment of his father. There is Orpheus, kind to him before Hades locks him away for refusing to sing, Hypnos, willing to put the house to sleep so he can find the truth though jumbled up in his own problems, and Nyx.
Nyx is the only one to aid Zagreus when he decides to try to escape. She contacts Olympus and weaves careful lies to win their support and blesses his departure. She's also the only one who believes that Zagreus has the slightest chance of escaping. Already in canon, most everyone tells him there no way he'll make it out, but here, it's so much worse. He doesn't know how to fight, his initial attempts are pitiful and his progress negligible, and near everyone lashes out at him to get back in line and stop making things worse.
He doesn't even have the Infernal Arms. Achilles is the one who brings them to him in canon; here Zagreus takes a simple bronze sword from one of the house's many displays of weapons from wars long past. He thanks the Fates that the Styx restores it the same way it does his body when he dies because he nicks and dulls the edges every time.
Despite all the disadvantages, Zagreus throws himself into escaping with unshakable determination, bone deep stubbornness. He picks up his sword and will figure out how to use it himself. Experience will be his teacher. He dies over and over and he watches his enemies and learns how they move and how he must react, mimicking their attacks for his own use and adjusting and adjusting after each failure. And contrary to Hades' adamant belief, Zagreus is very intelligent and learns brilliantly when allowed to and he grows stronger and stronger.
There's no teacher more savage than experience in something like this, though. The pursuit is agonizing and the cost is enormous and adjusting to this ceaseless violence feels impossible.
Much of my interest in this idea is how the added strain on his circumstances and relationships affects Zagreus and his mental state. At his best, Zag looks a lot like he does in canon, with his laurels unfurled and vibrant, and his feet glowing hot, but he rarely feels his best here. His laurel leaves curl in dry and crisp, muted like the leaves of autumn. Flakes of ash and soot build up over his legs and encase more and more as he suffers. So deep is his feeling of failure and being trapped that it affects him physically.
Not always, though. His flames respond to his emotions, burn brighter in his passion. Enthusiasm, love, fervor, bliss, anger set him glowing.
After a brutally drawn out span of time, Zagreus meets Achilles and Patroclus in Elysium and tbh, the rest of my interest is really in how the altered circumstances change the evolution of their relationships with each other. The pair of warriors were never separated for an extended time and Achilles is less downtrodden and resigned and Patroclus is less bitter and abrasive when Zagreus stumbles upon them.
They don't fight him, which Zagreus counts among his greatest blessings, although Achilles still seems to have an interest. It makes him twitchy and he jumps when Achilles finally lifts his spear and swings it around in his third time in their little glade only to bump the flat of the blade against elbow and tell him to keep it in more towards his body. Zagreus blinks rapidly at him before adjusting his arm.
Achilles helps him here and there, tips and tricks and valuable advice, but he never gives anything near the thorough instruction he did in canon. On one hand, he doesn't need to. Zagreus is a self made fighter and it leaves him with weaknesses but it is also a powerful thing. He is unpredictable and incredibly adaptable and he only continues to improve.
On the other hand, there's no room for it. Achilles is gentle with his guidance, but Zagreus is rubbed raw by all the fighting he's done and all that still depends on it. He doesn't want to always focus on the weapon in his hands. Patroclus notices and curbs Achilles' input when it exceeds its bounds. He sits aside and observers carefully when they spar. Zagreus doesn't need another's direction which is fine by him, who's lost all desire for combat. He gives his aid through his assortment of trinkets that carry Zagreus further to the surface.
Zagreus barely knows what to do with himself in the face of their care. He's so unaccustomed to such generous and genuine support, interest devoid of expectation or blame. As familiarity between the three of them grows, their interactions grow warmer, more tender and comfortable. Their care lays on a foundation, not a hinge, and Zagreus grapples with understanding that he really can lean on it. It all leaves him so uncertain yet so desperate because he wants more than anything to have joy and conversation and company with others where he doesn't shoulder heavy guilt from unspoken accusations over his escaping the house and to have a place he feels he belongs without being an intrusion.
He does at first believe he's intruding, though. Intruding on their time together in the peace of Elysium. It takes them time to convince him that they value his presence immeasurably. The opportunity to stay together in the Underworld has been invaluable for Achilles and Patroclus, but the peace of Elysium is a deceptive thing. It wears away and prickles at them, pressing down in odd warping ways. Patroclus is beyond pleased to have the war behind him and that it can never force him to fight again, and despite Achilles retaining an interest in competition and combat, he does feel the same way. Having a cause though, something to believe in and worth devoting their efforts towards... They didn't realize how deeply they missed it until Zagreus. It is revitalizing. They thrive in his genuine, boundless kindness and long to support him.
The drawings of Orpheus arguing with Hades and Zagreus fighting with Nyx is from one of my plot point ideas. Later down the line, together, Hades, Persephone, and Nyx agree to forbid Zagreus from seeing Achilles and Patroclus at Nyx's behest. Similarly to how she talks about Dusa in canon, she sees mortal shades as beneath his station and that it's highly unbecoming for the prince to be consorting with them. Zagreus fights against the idea ferociously and is only smothered by the threat that, if he seeks them out anyway, Hades will void Achilles' agreement and have Patroclus moved to the proper plane of the Underworld.
It crushes Zagreus. He loves them and cares about them so much and being torn apart from them is a wound that cuts so deep. But even more than that, what breaks him open most, is the fact that it came from someone he cared for and trusted most. Nyx was the one person in the House he could depend on most and this betrayal at her hand is devastating. And for such a worthless reason as propriety and godly vanity. It's not her place to force those upon him. It hurts Zagreus to the core.
Orpheus is the only one willing to stick up for him in this, deeply empathetic to the grief of being separated from loved ones and well acquainted with the fact that such punishments will only damage, never correct. After all, his stint of punishment in Erebus didn't revive his desire to sing, it was Zagreus's dedication and vibrancy that did that. One of the many invaluable gifts Zagreus gave him, including reuniting him with Eurydice, making him happier than he'd been since her death. Orpheus can't keep biting his tongue when all these gods refuse to see any of this.
It all comes to a head dramatically and painfully and I've thought of a few variations on how it would play out. I'll leave it for now though, I might draw it or write it later >:3c  Also this got really long lol. Hopefully the idea is at least somewhat interesting!
And here, have the lines from these two drawings because I like the way they look

EXTENDED LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE WRONG WITH CHAPTER 139
ymir the founder fritz, aka the most powerful and compelling plot device that isayama could have ever employed in order to explain the origin of the titans, the inherent slavery of the eldian people, and also everything else wrong in the world, was emptied of all value and purpose when she was revealed to have loved her abuser and oppressor. her life-long struggle to break free from the slave mentality that was pounded into her since childhood turned out to be... totally hollow. the woman's real purpose was to keep loving the man who cut off her tongue, raped her as a child and eventually had her cannibalized by their daughters when she failed to survive a murder attempt on his person. which makes for a very pinpoint parallel with eren, tbh, but he gets a whole paragraph all to himself later. amor vincit omnia should not become a convenient fix-it trope so that stuff can magically make sense in less than 50 pages. not to mention that this makeshift “solution” doesn't account for countless plot holes, that would only make sense if ymir was an abuse survivor looking to get her agency back. and even if i was keen on excusing the sloppy writing, i still wouldn't let the whole romanticisation of rape and trauma thing slide so easily. by giving a young victim like ymir fritz romantic feelings and a blind devotion towards her rapist, isayama is basically conveying a very pitiful and toxic message, one he refuses to even dignify with a realistic explanation for the thousands of readers who couldn't make a sense of it. the way this twisted version of love seems to be universally accepted by all the characters in the last chapter, as they just shrug it off like some sort of inevitable superior force that works in mysterious ways, made me wanna gouge my eyes out and never read another word again
mikasa's arc. mikasa had the potential to be the only character in the entire manga to come out on top when all was said and done. she had openly opposed eren's idea of a genocide. she had left the scarf behind when he voiced his hatred for her. she seemed ready enough to sever the proverbial umbilical cord and move on, live a life with pride, knowing how she could have outgrown her silly, dependent, obsessive old self. she might have started out as a yandere caricature, a passive and annoying side-effect to having eren as the main character, but she could have done so much better later on. she, too, just like ymir fritz, might have broken free, if only isayama liked liberated and strong women. she had the range. she had the potential, the backstory, everything. given the chance, she could have redeemed herself. but did isayama care? nope. he just threw her to the sickos in the fandom and said “here's your little psycho doll. do what you will with her. also, she's the key to understanding the superior force that works in mysterious ways aka love aka all the nonsense i'm actually too lazy to commit to”. and so, mikasa is as inconsequential in the ending as she ever was as eren's ever-present bodyguard, if not more, because now she's even refusing to look ahead and fight. two things that she at least tried to do every so often back when eren was alive. not only she surrendered to her own mental illness, but she even saw it turned into a pretty fantasy that the readers can idealise (again, romanticisation of all the wrong things) and that she'll never be able to escape so long as she lives. what's worse, she doesn't even want to, because in this manga we love downgrading and being stuck in the past, as the worst possible versions of ourselves.
historia's pregnancy. it shouldn't even have happened in the first place, unless it was dictated by historia's explicit desire to have a child precisely when she asked for one and by that one unnamed farmer guy and nobody else. whether that was the case or not remains, to this day, still shrouded in mystery because, again, isayama didn't think of coming clean about any aspect of historia's sudden decision. the notion that she might have been raped or submitted to something she really didn't want simply for the drama of it leads to some pretty terrifying implications. i have already explained countless times how it didn't even make sense for eren to be so adamant about rejecting the 50 year plan on account of not wanting historia to be breeded like cattle, titanised, and eventually devoured by her children, if he was just... gonna let her have her way, she only had to ask him nicely. why ever would historia need eren's permission to have a child? what was she even trying to tell him in chapter 130? why did eren tell her something as pivotal as the genocide plan if the friendship between them wasn't any different from any other in the 104th? why would eren take the risk to meet her in secret and suggest that they do something as radical as fighting the mp's or running away, if all she had to do was just... ask that he let her get pregnant? i suppose that was just a bait for a very specific side of the fandom, at this point, as the extent of the entire cryptic conversation from ch. 130 was never covered, and we were probably just supposed to forget about it. I can only forgive isayama for basically baiting me into shipping erehisu because he still gave historia a decent wrap-up in the ending, she looked in control and happy enough with her new life, which is something i warmly wished for her. she seems to be in a better spot than most of her former comrades, and virtually, she is the true inheritor of eren's original (and later disowned) ideology, as she is the one who will lead eldia into the future as a free nation, whatever that may mean for them now that titan powers are no longer a thing. I'm very proud of her and generally i am happy with how things played out for her and yeah, thinking back on it with a colder mind... i wouldn't have wanted it any other way, ships be damned
wHY WAS LEVI IN A WHEELCHAIR????? like..... scars aside, he was up and about in one panel, and in the next he was disabled... that was just... idk?? weird but i suppose isayama went overboard to provide us with some residual dramatic value here
the genocide being just a red herring. APPARENTLY eren never believed that the genocide was a solid way to achieve freedom. his true intention was to antagonize himself so that his friends would be hailed as heroes, but like... why... he didn't even achieve the complete annihilation of conflict in the world by doing so? his friends might be heroes now, but they're going to spend the rest of their lives fighting for their very lives. if anything, eren sparked new conflicts and made the new order so much worse for the eldians, as they have no choice but to keep fighting, except with the same weapons as anybody else now. he basically doomed his people to a bleak future of war and possibly extinction. he killed 80% of the entire world to cause nothing but a disappointing regretful outcome, and in the end he even disowned everything he ever believed in. in comparison, zeke's euthanasia plan was some genius level shit that would have achieved the same result as eren, except with not nearly as much bloodshed.
the parasite. again, great idea, poor execution. what on earth happened to it? it was the Scientific Shit that made titans happen one moment, and then gone in the next, wrestled to death by a buff war criminal with ptsd... my disappointment is over the roof
eren himself. like, as a whole. oh, what's not to regret about the 180 eren did in the finale? witnessing a mc forsaking every relevant trait that's ever made him who he is, is simply painful on the eyes. isayama basically went and said “remember eren yaeger aka the suicidal blockhead who would sacrifice everything in order to achieve freedom? yes? well forget about him, you've got aaron yogurt now.” …... who even is this man? when he broke down and cried in front of armin, whining like a baby that he wanted mikasa to never move on from him, i legit got second-hand embarassment. I felt actual shame for the way isayama handled his characterisation. like... he is a mass murderer, ok... how can he just... kneel down and cry about his step-sister whom he never did anything to date anyway like it's nothing??? armin is right to be pissed at him but he's pissed for the wrong reasons, sadly. I don't even want to tackle the topic of eren murdering his own mother, as he basically confessed to going through life on autopilot because the founding titan just erased all his feelings, gave him superior knowledge of all things and compelled him to go with the flow of things, aka the exact opposite of what he's been preaching ever since day 1. W HAT on earth man. like i said in point #1, eren's crush on mikasa is actually very frightening too, and it leads us back to that one dark force that overpowered even ymir fritz. eren is in love with a girl who's obsessed, in denial and damaged. and what's worse, mikasa reciprocates his feelings, even though eren always overlooked her or manipulated her. ymir fritz kept misunderstanding all those red flags from the king as love, probably. this is really not a story of breaking the cursed cycle, because it seems to me that everyone has returned full circle in the end.
CONCLUSION: nothing isayama or anyone might have said in interviews or elsewhere could have prepared me for this raging shitfest. the entirety of that last chapter was farfetched to say the least, everything looked half-hearted and rushed, clumsily glued together because the real isayama died and somebody else had to ghostwrite the ending for him. I am sorry if i do sound a bit disillusioned about the whole thing and can't bring myself to be outraged either, but i've been way too invested into this manga for nearly a decade, and now it all blew up in my face, so i guess i no longer give it the power to upset me lol

It starts with Kara arriving at the Tower after a particularly challenging mission. She could’ve flown straight home for a shower and some well-deserved rest, but she knows Lena can’t sleep while Kara is on duty, and she knows exactly what her girlfriend does when she can’t sleep. So Kara walks straight to the lab and smiles at the sight of Lena in her element, inventing what Kara has no doubt will be yet another world-saving gadget for them to use.
For a moment, Kara just watches her, grateful for the glass walls allowing her to see her girlfriend work without having to use her powers at all. There’s something soothing about the way Lena works, slow and methodical and precise even when she’s doing it just to keep her mind from drifting to Kara and the dangers she faces as Supergirl. And really, there’s no reason Lena should worry for a minute longer than strictly necessary, so Kara finally pushes the glass door open and walks into the lab.
“Hey, I’m ba—“ Lena turns around so quickly, wraps her arms around Kara so tightly, that Kara can only let out a quiet chuckle and hold on, enjoying the closeness and the scent of Lena’s hair filling up her lungs as Lena lets the tension of the last fourteen hours dissolve into the hug.
“Hey, baby,” Kara tries again, softer this time, breathed against the skin of Lena’s temple, “are you okay?”
Lena nods, lips pressing against Kara’s neck for a parting kiss before she finally pulls away from Kara’s arms to take a good look at her.
“I am now,” Lena says, eyes narrowing just so as she takes in the rips on Kara’s supersuit. Fingertips touch the torn fabric on Kara’s waist and across her left bicep, the smudges of dirt and pulverized concrete on her neck and cheek. “Are you?”
Kara grins. “Takes a bit more than a collapsing abandoned building to stop your girlfriend.”
And then Kara flexes her biceps, playfully, just because she knows Lena gets a kick out of her playing the confident jock from time to time. She definitely (she swears!) isn’t thinking about her supersuit and the small tear right over her left bicep, and she absolutely isn’t anticipating the way the fabric rips over her flexed muscle.
But.
As innocent as Kara is in all this, and she cannot possibly overstate how innocent she truly is, she’s not complaining at all when Lena tilts her head just so, green eyes fixated on the torn fabric and the bulging muscle underneath as she slowly licks her lips.
“Oh,” Lena says — breathes, really — as she arches one eyebrow, “I see.”
And then she reaches up and traces the ripped fabric once again, fingers pressing just so, like she’s testing just how fitting that Girl of Steel nickname really is.
“Who else is here?” Lena asks, voice low and darkened green eyes fixated on Kara’s, “Are we alone?”
“I, um—“ Kara struggles to make her brain cooperate and process Lena’s words when it feels like every single nerve ending in her body has been rerouted to that exact spot Lena is touching, “I think J’onn… lives here?”
Does M’gann live here also? Kara doesn’t know. Kara doesn’t care. Kara can’t quite breathe right.
“It’s pretty late,” Lena says, and her voice sounds like sun-warmed honey tastes, “I’m sure he’s asleep.”
And Kara swears she tries to think about it. About whether it’s past J’onn’s bedtime, about whether J’onn has a bedtime at all, and about whether martians even sleep in the first place. But suddenly Lena’s free hand is grabbing Kara’s and guiding it down, down, down under her skirt, and Lena’s lips are pressing a warm kiss to Kara’s jaw, and Kara suddenly realizes what’s going on.
“Oh,” she breathes out, blue eyes fluttering closed for a moment before they widen in shock at the realization of what’s going on. “Wh— here!?” Don’t get her wrong, she makes no move to stop the path of Lena’s lips towards her ear or pull her hand away from the warm soft skin of Lena’s inner thigh, but still. You know. “Lena, we can’t—“
“Can’t we?” Kara can feel Lena’s smile against her skin, and the way Lena’s teeth graze her earlobe makes her fingers inch just that little bit higher up Lena’s thigh. “Why not?”
What an excellent question. Kara tilts her head to the side to give Lena’s lips and teeth and tongue free access to her neck as she tries to find the part of her brain that knows why they can’t actually have sex in the lab.
“Because…” Kara sighs happily at a particularly well-placed kiss, “…it’s kinda rude?”
She feels Lena’s chuckle rather than hears it, and it makes a little shiver run down her spine. “It’s rude?” Kara can’t see Lena’s eyebrow, but she’s sure it’s arched so very prettily right now. How unfair. “This is my lab.”
And you know, Lena makes a good point, Kara figures, hand moving further up under Lena’s skirt. This is Lena’s side of the Lab. Her office, sort of unofficially, ever since she became an official member of the team. But still…
“You’re such a goody two shoes,” Lena teases, pressing herself a little closer against Kara.
“I mean, I’m Supergirl. It’s kind of my th— oh —“Lena’s teeth nip at Kara’s neck, completely derailing her thoughts for a moment, “—thing.”
And Kara is almost ready to give in. She’s almost ready to accept that yes, this lab counts as Lena’s home away from home so it’s perfectly fine if they want to get frisky in it. Her hand finishes its trek up Lena’s thigh and finds damp lace waiting for her, and frankly, they’re grown ups. She’s a whole super heroine. If she wants to fu—
“Formic acid!” Brainy’s voice reaches them just a second before he walks into the lab, which is lucky because it gives Kara just enough time to disentangle herself from her girlfriend at the speed of light.
Brainy stares through the glass wall separating the main lab from Lena’s smaller area. His eyes move from Lena to Kara and then back to Lena again, brow furrowed just so as he tries to figure out exactly what’s not right.
“Formic acid?” Lena prompts as she opens the door, voice entirely too level for someone who’s just been nearly caught with her girlfriend’s hand between her legs.
“Ah. Yes.” Brainy nods. “Formic acid. Nia’s neighbor has ants. It gave me an idea for the antidote we were talking about earlier. I think if we just—“
“Tomorrow. Brainy.” Kara interrupts him with a smile, hand wrapping around Lena’s wrist to pull her towards the exit. They have things to do. Private places to be.
“Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow,” Lena agrees, grabbing her coat on the way out of the lab.
***
It’s been three weeks since the formic acid incident — as Kara lovingly remembers it — when she gets to the Tower after a mission once again to find her girlfriend deep in thought at her desk.
There’s nothing particularly special about it this time. It’s early afternoon, her foes were rowdy but easily manageable, and her supersuit looks impeccable. And yet, when she walks through the glass door, Lena gives her a look.
A Look.
Oh, that look.
Kara knows the look. Knows what it means. And she very nearly offers to just fly them home right away to save themselves the pain of having to stop halfway through to relocate, but you know what? It’s a bit hard to think ahead when Lena Luthor in a deep burgundy dress is walking towards you with that look on her face.
“That was a quick mission,” Lena says, shaking her head just so to make her ponytail swish in a way Kara’s pretty sure should be some kind of illegal, “those bad guys were no match for Supergirl, huh?”
Kara is blushing. She can tell. She knows because she’s having to employ all her kryptonian strength to keep herself from saying golly or aw, gee or a number of other things that would frankly ruin this whole big super heroine fantasy Lena has going on right now. And who is she to ruin her girlfriend’s fun?
“N—no,” Kara manages, voice slightly higher than normal, and she clears her throat before continuing, “I’m super strong.”
Nailed it.
“You sure are,” Lena says with an amused smile, because she’s very sweet and she loves Kara too much to laugh at her, “do you wanna show me how strong you are, Supergirl?”
Kara nods. And then she remembers where they are and shakes her head.
“We should— I can fly us home.”
“But, baby,” Lena takes one slow step right into Kara’s personal space and Kara feels her brain begin to shut down, “I want you right now.”
“It—“ Kara is trying so hard to do the right thing here, she swears, even if her hands are already on Lena’s waist and she’s already pulling Lena close and Lena smells so very good, “but the walls, Lena.”
Kara can tell Lena is trying very hard not to laugh.
“The walls?”
“Yeah,” Kara presses a quick kiss to deep red lips, just because it feels rude not to acknowledge how delicious they look, “I get what you guys were going for with the… futuristic sci-fi interior design, but all this glass is not very private, baby.”
Lena grins. And it’s not just a regular charmed grin. Not the normal one she shows when Kara says something sweet or funny and her heart gets a little fluttery in her chest (Kara’s heard it). No. This is something else. This is the smile Lena wears when they absolutely destroy everyone at game night.
Lena’s won. What exactly she’s won, Kara doesn’t know yet. But oh, Lena has absolutely won… something.
“You know, you’re right. They’re not very private at all. That’s why I made this.”
Lena shows her what looks to Kara like tiny remote and pushes the button.
Lena Luthor protocol engaging.
Kara cocks one eyebrow at Lena, who simply shrugs as a small robot flies from under her desk.
“I named it after the original one. For nostalgia’s sake.”
Kara stares in confusion as the small robot hovers nearby and points what looks like a camera at them. Except it’s not a camera. It’s… some kind of spotlight?
“What’s it doing?” Kara can see the light inside the robot, can see it pointing the ray at them, but she sees no change in the lightning of the lab.
“It’s making us invisible.”
“What? I can see you,” Kara looks down at her hands on Lena’s waist, “I can see me.”
“That’s because you’re not looking through the glass. Look there,” Lena says, pointing at a polished steel surface on the main area of the lab. There should be a reflection there… but there isn’t one.
Kara stares, blue eyes wide and lips parted in surprise. She’s seen plenty of impressive tech since becoming Supergirl — let alone what she grew up with in Krypton — but this is something else.
Of course, the fact that Lena’s body is pressed up against her own, and the fact that she developed a whole new technology just to be able to get frisky in her glass-covered lab may have something to do with it.
“What do you think?” Lena does this thing she does where she sort of arches against Kara’s body in a way that makes Kara’s brain feel like it’s sloshing about in a sea of Lena’s perfume, and then presses her lips against Kara’s jaw, and to be honest Kara isn’t thinking at all right now.
“Wh— what?” One of Kara’s hands slides down from Lena’s waist to the curve of her ass, grabbing a handful of it as Lena’s teeth oh-so-gently nip at Kara’s bottom lip. “Wh—“ Kara tries again, barely above a whisper, but frankly she’s much more interested in kissing Lena like she means it — like she deserves to be kissed — and she completely forgets she’s been asked a question in the first place.
“Kara,” Lena pulls away from the kiss, lipstick a little bit smeared, cheeks a little bit flushed, breathing a little bit stilted, “I asked you a question.”
And you know, Kara is sure that’s true. She’s, like, so sure. But Lena is taking a step back to lean right against that sleek glass wall and pulling Kara along, and Kara’s brain is powerless to process anything beyond the fact that her girlfriend is practically begging her to have her way with her up against that wall.
And that’s… well, that’s something.
“Yeah,” Kara chooses to answer, because frankly she’d say yes to anything Lena asked right now and she’s a bit busy kissing up the path of freckles on Lena’s neck to care about the actual question right now, “yeah, baby, of course.”
Normally, Lena is far from pleased when she detects even a hint of Kara trying to placate her with mindless agreement, but this must be working for her because all Kara feels under her lips is an amused giggle right as Lena’s fingers slide into blond hair.
“What do you think of the new protocol?” Lena’s voice has a touch of teasing weaved into the words, like she knows the question is ultimately irrelevant but she likes watching Kara struggle to form coherent thoughts while horny. And, you know, Kara can respect that.
“It’s so good,” the hand that’s not on Lena’s ass moves up to cover Lena’s right breast, and Kara celebrates her own incredible luck by pressing a kiss to Lena’s lips, “you’re so smart,” another kiss, this time to a smile Lena can’t quite contain, “my genius girlfriend.”
Lena’s blunt fingernails lightly scratch at Kara’s scalp, making her hum happily against Lena’s lips. “You’re just horny,” Lena teases, her tone clearly stating just how happy she is that’s the case.
“And humbled! By your genius intellect.” Kara squeezes Lena’s ass and kisses the tip of Lena’s nose, because she’s cute and Kara knows deep down there’s a little part of Lena that will always need to hear how good she is out loud. “I can do both. I’m Supergirl.”
Lena chuckles, low and soft, and rewards Kara’s thoughtfulness with a kiss. “Well, Supergirl,” she says, shooting her girlfriend a look that hits Kara right between her legs, “if you’re feeling humbled, you may as well show me how much.”
And then. Then, Lena uses her grip on Kara’s hair to gently tug down, just so, just enough to make Kara’s eyes widen with the realization of where Lena wants her. On her knees. At Lena’s feet. And frankly, Kara files this under things they absolutely need to explore further, because she swears she feels her body temperature rise by at least a couple degrees.
But she’s not about to make Lena wait. So Kara slowly sinks down to her knees, blue eyes locked with green just so Lena can see. So Lena can see Supergirl kneeling at her feet.
When her right knee touches the floor, she hears Lena’s breath catch in her throat.
“Go on,” Lena says, upper back leaning against the wall, “show me.”
Kara nods, hands wrapping around lena’s thighs and slowly sliding up, up, up, bringing Lena’s pencil skirt along with them. She can’t resist kissing every inch of soft, warm skin she uncovers, lips trailing a path up one of Lena’s inner thighs and then the other, until all she needs to do is push the bunched up skirt up over her hips and ass to reach the lacy (Kara is willing to bet) fabric of her—
“Oh,” Kara breathes out, staring at the spot where Lena’s panties should be but decidedly aren’t. And Kara, to her credit, manages to look up into green eyes and shoot her girlfriend a teasing smirk along with a fake scandalized look. “Miss Luthor.”
There’s a dusting of pink across the bridge of Lena’s nose that Kara finds frankly unfair given the circumstances. “Well, I knew the prototype would be ready by the time you came back.”
“See? Genius girlfriend,” Kara smiles as she presses a kiss to Lena’s mound, pulling a happy little sigh out of her, “so smart.”
And then Kara stops talking, because she has much more important things to do with her mouth. Things like kissing the slick skin of Lena’s inner thighs, humming in delight at the smell and taste of her girlfriend and the way Lena’s fingers fist in her hair.
Kara takes her time, lips and teeth and tongue exploring every inch of Lena’s cunt but pointedly avoiding her clit, just because she happens to think there’s no sound more beautiful than the way Lena says please.
“You look so good down there,” Lena says, breathy and flushed, “right—“ her breath catches in her throat, and Kara smiles between Lena’s thighs, “—there.”
And this is why Kara will never really mind the way Lena teases her and makes her blush and stumble over her words. Because she knows the tables turn as soon as she’s between Lena’s legs.
“Where, baby?” Kara asks, her face the perfect picture of innocence as she presses a soft kiss just shy of Lena’s clit, “Here?”
Lena’s eyes flutter closed and she leans her head back against the glass wall with a smile. “Kara.”
She’s never Supergirl when they’re like this.
“Here?” Kara’s teeth gently nip at one of Lena’s lips, and then the other, “Or here?”
“Kara, please.”
And there it is. Right there, the most beautiful sound in the world.
So Kara decides to reward Lena by finally flicking her tongue against a stiff clit before wrapping her lips around it, and she doesn’t hold it against Lena when she pulls on Kara’s hair instead of saying thanks.
All slowness and teasing forgotten, Kara puts her lips and teeth and tongue at Lena’s service, letting Lena hook one leg over Kara’s shoulder to give her better access as she uses her hold on Kara’s hair to pull her closer still.
Kara feels like she’s drunk on Lena’s taste and smell and the sound of the moans she’s struggling to stifle. She can taste just how close Lena is, she can feel it in the way her thighs quake and her breathing gets more and more stilted and her hips rock harder and faster against Kara’s tongue.
“God, Kar—“ Kara hears the sound of Lena smacking one hand over her own mouth, keeping herself as close to quiet as possible — Kara is delighted for her own superhearing that allows her to hear it all anyway — as she rides Kara’s mouth.
She’s so close. So close Kara feels the one leg holding Lena up shaking perilously as a quiet moan escapes between Lena’s fingers, and Kara is just in time to prop her up with one hand as Lena finally comes, head tilting back and hitting the glass wall with a soft thud.
And that — exactly that moment — is when Kara freezes at the sound of someone walking towards the lab.
It’s been a while since Alex has been alone in the lab. It’s been a while since she’s been in the lab at all, to be honest. And that doesn’t seem fair, right? She may not be Lena or Brainy, but she’s a scientist! She can do science things. That formic acid conundrum they were talking about the other day?
Alex could have helped.
But do they ever ask Alex for scientific input? No. All Alex is good for is apparently acrobatic crime-fighting and daring make-up choices.
And she’s ready to prove her worth. So after checking that nobody’s already in the lab, Alex walks in and starts looking around. Innocently, of course. She’d never do anything really intrusive like go into Lena’s personal area or mess with Brainy’s future toys. No, no. But she’ll look around. Check out what they’re doing. See if anything looks like it could be solved by an actual medical doctor, thank you very much.
And then — then she hears it. Some kind of… thud?
On the other side of the glass wall, cloaked by Lena’s invisibility robot, Kara braces herself with one hand on the wall as she holds Lena up with the other. And Kara may be Supergirl, but there’s something to be said about trying to be quiet while holding Lena through a frankly earth-shattering — if she may say so herself — orgasm with her face still between Lena’s thighs.
It takes skill.
And Kara is managing just fine, mind you, until Lena twitches in a way Kara wasn’t expecting, and Kara loses her hold on her for just a split second before she presses her up against the wall once again.
Alex narrows her eyes. The thud she could ignore, but she swears there’s the faintest outline of a handprint on the glass. And just when she’s about ready to chalk it all up to sleep deprivation, she hears a… squeak. The unmistakable sound of skin sliding against glass.
And now it’s not just the handprint there. There’s something round next to it. Something like—
Wait.
Is that the outline of an ass?
“Oh my God, Kara!” Alex turns around, voice climbing higher in both pitch and volume as she speaks because she doesn’t know whether she’s just seen the outline of her sister’s butt or her sister’s girlfriend’s butt but either way she’d very much like to have her memory wiped right now. Is J’onn home?
“Not this again!” She continues, somewhere between horrified and desperate. To be fair, she’s never walked into invisible wall sex before, but she has interrupted a frankly worrying amount of heavy make-out sessions for the time Kara and Lena have been together, and she’d really rather not think about what those two would have done had she remained asleep for a few minutes longer the last time she agreed to a movie night.
It’s a pattern of emotionally scarring behavior, is all she’s saying.
“And you know!” Alex turns around, eyes squeezed shut because she does not want to catch even the slightest glimpse of that assprint ever again. “You know,” she bangs on the wall for emphasis, just once, “I’m all for pride, but there is such a fucking thing as a healthy amount of shame!”
Alex stomps out of the lab, and her aggravated footsteps can still be faintly heard in the distance when Lena clears her throat. She’s blushing bright red, but her voice sounds remarkably steady for someone whose left leg is still hooked over her girlfriend’s shoulder.
“Joy,” Lena says, and the sleek virtual personal assistant on her desk whirs to life. “Protocol prototype version 1.0 partially successful,” she dictates, “consider one-way glass going forward.”
“Oh, oh! And Joy?” Kara pipes up from between Lena’s thighs, “Please order Alex a ‘we’re sorry’ pie.”
Lena simply nods. “Make it strawberry this time.”

PART1:Hey Pia! I'm an admirer of your writing and you as a writer and I'm kind of in a little pickle. When I read your stories (longtime lurker but I give every kudo that I can!) your characters feel so real and when you answer questions about them it feels less like a thing you talk about and more like you just k n o w how they would react/feel if x happens. A few years back I had that feeling for a few original charackters of mine too. I didn't need to ponder hours or days to figure out what they will do or how they feel about x, I just knew. I felt like an invisible spectator who just needs to watch and write down what happens.
Now? That feeling is gone. I still have ideas for stories or characters and I want to write, but that inherent feeling to just k n o w is missing which leads to not writing at all or writing like 2k, but everything just reads and feels flat. Like going through the motions.
I miss the i-just-know- connection to my characters.
Do you have any advice how I could get that connection back or how I could foster it for my characters/story ideas?
*
Tbh, you don't need to have that knowing to actually be able to write characters? It can make it more fun, but I haven't always had it. I didn't always have it - for example - with Thomas and Aodhan while writing The Gentle Wolf. Sometimes the decisions I made were based purely on logic and understanding of human behaviour, and the groundwork I'd done at the beginning of the story to create these characters in the first place.
And honestly, sometimes knowing lets you down, because sometimes it's wrong. Being in that position can lead to being very biased on a character's behalf, which can be fine sometimes - especially in Id fics! But is less great in like, realistic fiction or in general. That kind of immersion has pros and cons, just like not having that immersion has pros and cons.
So the main thing is you don't need that immersion to still write great characters and a solid story. It just might take time to learn essentially a new skill in characterisation that you haven't gotten used to using before (which is probably why it reads as flat, not because the non-immersion style is flawed or wrong, but because you're not used to employing it as a skill and might need more practice with it - it reminds me of Lyra with the alethiometer in His Dark Materials - at first she can just instinctively read the alethiometer to predict the future, and then she loses the ability, and has to learn another way of doing it - and there's a kind of grief there - but she learns the other way also has its own value too).
(I feel like Philip Pullman used that analogy to demonstrate that sometimes we can access a skill that is effortless and easy, and if we lose that, we get discouraged and don't want to learn it a new way - but it's worth learning a new way, even if there's grief there too).
The other thing is to...I guess think of the kind of characters you do experience immersion with these days. What stories are you reading where you feel more connected to the characters than normal? Why don't you write those kinds of characters, or even fanfiction of those characters? Is there a disconnect between the characters you're immersing with most vs. the characters you're trying to write?
If you're not feeling connections like that to any character right now, I don't know if you can 'force' immersion. It's usually a sign of burn out or exhaustion or even depression when it's to the point where you're not even connecting/immersing with fictional characters for the sake of entertainment or leisure.
And then honestly I'd recommend rest or...well, whatever you employ to look after yourself when you're Going Through It.
*
Also, sometimes pushing through that flatness can get you through to the other side. I don't think you should force yourself or anything... I mean I don't know you or your position exactly, but I know for myself, I can be tired and start writing and then find the thread of it after a few days or weeks. I'm not always sitting there in fun immersion land, basically.
I've written entire stories where I didn't have the benefit of in-character immersion while writing (I think Eversion comes immediately to mind, I didn't have that for huge chunks of the story - and some of The Beast that Chose Its Own Bridle comes to mind). Sometimes I gained aspects of that immersion after writing a 10,000 word chapter, which helped me re: comment responses, but that doesn't mean I had that feeling or experience during writing, y'know?
Sometimes you only really get to know your characters after 50k of writing them. Which is infuriating. Sometimes you never once experience immersion with them. Tons of successful writers have never experienced it once and wouldn't trust it even if they did, y'know? I don't always trust it myself, I often stop making hard decisions for characters when I go into that zone, so I've also had to learn the skill of detaching myself from that immersion at times too. That's especially true for Augus. Immersion in his character makes me write him badly. I need to step back for him, and he often gets the most brutal overhauling/editing in chapters afterwards, which is a sign of how that style of character connection can be a con, not a pro.
Basically tl;dr there's lots of ways of writing characters and feeling flat on this new technique doesn't mean it's a bad technique. Think about the characters in stories that make you feel immersed and connected to them - ask yourself if those are the characters you're writing, and if that's a possible direction to head. Good luck, anon!

K so I decided to talk about the residents of Star Town in my “Hero of the Stars” AU since they’re important to know (I don’t consider Meta Knight or the Meta-Knights town residents since they basically live on the Halberd here so yeah I’m not sharing more on them yet. Same with the residents of Castle Dedede). Call this not-final or anything, just my general idea for the town cast (main and side characters alike):
Adeleine
-Local young girl
-Apprentice of Vividria
-Best friends with Marx
-Positive/Optimistic
-Tries her best
-One of the few sane people in the cast
Marx
-Local jester
-Prankster
-Tricky boi
-Loves space and magic stuff
-Uses his hat as hands (don’t ask I think it works in Star Allies)
-Almost always seen on his beach ball
Bandana Waddle Dee
-Technically a resident of Castle Dedede but he lived in the town for a while so-
-Good boi
-Loyal and friendly
-Lots of emotional attachment to his bandana, will have an existential crisis without it
-Basically the #1 Waddle Dee of the place and the closest to the king (though the king loves all of his Waddle Dees unconditionally [granted, he’s a huge tsundere for them and just about everyone in existence, but-)
-Can be very shy and timid
Magolor
-Local egg shopkeeper
-Halcandra kinda collapsed in on itself here and the Lor is never seen here so he is shrouded in mystery
-Greedy egg who wants your money
-Sells stuff from around the galaxy (egg has been places)
-Would probably be really OP if I allowed him to be plot-important
Chef Kawasaki
-Restaurant owner except he can actually cook well here
-Has employed Pitch, ChuChu, and Nago to help with running his restaurant (mainly, they c l e a n )
-Very nice bean man
-He is trying his best every day
Rick
-Fuzzball hamster
-Loves his girlfriend (Pick, who lives in Fruity Forest) with all his heart
-Nice bean who is happy to give children piggyback rides
-Best buds with Kine and Coo ‘cus Animal Friends
-Strong boi (or at least tries to be)
Coo
-Librarian birb
-Yes he runs a library here fite meh-
-Smart birb
-He is the kind-yet-strict adult
-Out of all the animal friends, he holds all the brain cells
Kine
-Carefree fish man
-Loves his wife (Mine)
-Lives in a nearby lake with said wife
-Yes he is like the games and novels where he can not die on land because magic fish
-Would be the first to cry during the apocalypse
Pitch
-Strong birb
-Kinda like Tokkori but not a d-bag
-No-nonsense yet still does not contain brain cells
-Loves his mama (Pitch Mama, never forget her)
ChuChu
-Looking for love
-IDK anything about Nyupun so just pretend they live together and are either housemates or dating
-Secretly very vindictive and stuff but in a comedic way
Nago
-Laid-back boi
-Does some usual cat stuff like sleeping in impossible positions (IDK I heard cats do that, I don’t have a cat)
-Has a girlfriend (Shiro) who lives all the way in Iceberg (so far away from where he lives)
Knuckle Joe
-Best buds with Burning Leo
-Wants to be strong
-Willing to throw hands with infants
-Thinks he’s way cooler than he actually is
-Insists on the “Knuckle” part of his name (don’t call him just “Joe”)
Burning Leo
-A lot like Knuckle Joe except more chill
-Cool kid
-Has probably committed arson at least once but he is child and doesn't know it’s a crime
-Kinda mean sometimes tbh
(Doctor) Chemitory
-Like Yabuki from the show but he actually knows what he’s doing
-Not much to him other than he nice
Birdon
-Daredevil kid
-Obsessed with Dyna Blade (who’s, like, a legend or myth here)
-Has nearly died at least seven times over the course of his life
-Energetic birb boy
Bio Spark
-Tries to be cool ninja child but he’s really just insecure
-Needs a lesson in honor
-Kinda like Knuckle Joe and Burning Leo fused into one
-Doesn’t actually know how to do ninja stuff
Gooey
-Later addition to the cast (by that I mean he becomes art of it at, like, episode 15)
-Was abandoned by the other Dark Matters ‘cus he’s defective
-Really nice and has existential crises on occasion
-Bean.
-Has a habit of licking people or things he likes. Creeps people out on occasion but he means well.
Vividria
-Adeleine’s mentor in art
-Cheerful lady
-Hasn’t seen her sisters in years (yes this comes into an episode)
-Very social and talkative
Gim
-Runs a toy store
-Acts like Dippy Fresh or something. I dunno. He is the 90s incarnate.
-Kinda annoying but at least he’s not a jerk.
-Trying to be hip with the kids ‘cus he wants to see them smile but doesn’t know how to appeal to them.
Mine
-Kine’s wife
-Doesn’t get to appear much but basically acts the way she does in the “Save the Rainbow Islands!” official novel
Nyupun
-Probably not seen much
-Possibly ChuChu’s boyfriend, maybe just her best friend, not even the wiki can decide
NESP
-Local fortune-teller
-Mysterious and kinda mischievous
-Not very social outside of business stuff
-Somehow very accurate
-Probably has a PhD in something
TAC
-Probably has a rivalry with the Squeaks
-Commits petty theft
-No one knows where he lives so he may not even be a resident of Star Town
-Loves soft, cozy things
Poppy Bros. Jr.
-Runs fireworks store with Poppy Bros Sr. (older brother) (store also sells to places outside the town. Probably would’ve gone out of business otherwise. Some places have high demands for fireworks. They have to send the orders through the mail)
-Rambunctious kid, loves to blow stuff up
-Would probably commit arson if he didn’t have a conscience… though even that may not be enough to stop him
Poppy Bros. Sr.
-Life of the party
-A lot like his little bro except more mature
-Can probably play some kind of musical instrument pretty well
(I’m hoping I didn’t forget anything. Will go over more characters next time. I wanna make all the character posts before going over the episode concepts)

This is kind of a long post, especially because I haven't been on this account in a hot ☀️ minute! This Summer, I have made quite a few changes! My life during covid was very stressful and I was unhappy in my relationship and my job.
I'm fully vaccinated (still wear my mask because I have other people in my household who can't get vaccinated, so don't want to potentially pass it on to them, even though I'm safe). I have a new cat!! :) I got out of that unhappy relationship and am working on making more time for friends. (Mostly focusing on ME though). I started going on hikes again! Im almost through my last two weeks of work and I felt so much relief, almost immediately after quitting. Why should I stay in an environment where I am underappreciated and constantly stressed. I am going on a vacation (my first time with a friend,i.e. no family!) before coming back to work on the farm again! I'm so thrilled to see how much the animals have grown and what potential newbies have come since I last was employed there! Then, a few weeks after, I will be starting fall classes! I haven't been in school in almost 5 years... Im getting my license finally! (I'm almost 26, and this is the second time I've got my permit. My anxieties were so bad and I just never went to get my drivers test). Its okay though, everything is changing for the better!! :))
I am in a good position. I won't be making more money until after I've settled in at school and I have very little savings. I still get the comfort of living at home and not paying rent (bless my mother tbh). This is a sign for those of you in similar situations!- If you're unhappy, please go out and look for other jobs, other positions that you would be happier/ less stressed in! Do it! Experiment with jobs. Try out internships! Get a certificate in a field you enjoy! So many places are hiring right now. Those of you who this doesn't apply to, because life is stressful and bills are very real and you have to have a job constantly (even if you don't like it) or you lose everything--- I respect you SO much. I am so proud of you all for pushing through, especially for such a tough two years now. If you're struggling, I see you. I've been there. Things are changing for the better for me and I am taking every opportunity. My anxieties are screaming at me, for doing new things and allowing change to come so fast into my life. But Im also so so excited and motivated, for probably the FIRST time in my life. I feel like I am living for ME, for the first time and it feels. so. good! If you're reading this, I am proud of you. Make your break for yourself. Go get what you want! And if you have no idea how to get it, there are resources, whether it be friends/family, a school counselor, a therapist, etc. Ask. I know its difficult, trust me. But you will feel so much better once things start going into motion and you can start living for yourself, even just a little bit!
Happy full moon, all you lovelies. May positive change find you. 🌕💛
If you want to talk to me (about anything at all) my asks and inbox are always open!) I'm not by any means a therapist, I dont have all the answers, but I can be that person to talk to, if you need or want it). :)

from the sleepover asks, how about a confession and (plsss) movie recs?
omg a confession… nothing interesting happens to me ever tbh LOL most of my confessions only apply to ppl i know irl since i overshare so much on here that i’ve already said them all lmfaoo um. this isn’t anything spicy but the plants i got for my dorm room are highkey dying even the succulent 😭😭 i think it’s bc they’re not getting enough sunlight since a. i forget to pull up/open the blinds all the time oops and b. even when they are open not a ton of light gets in presumably bc there are two walls p close to the window… it’s so tragic actually
WAIT ALSO not really a confession but for my honors class i got assigned the role of a composer/music theorist/musician for this game and the overall objective of the game is to accumulate as much money/influence as you can and one of the ways to do this is to write a minute-long song w lyrics and perform it in front of the class so i’m considering stooping to the level of writing a song demonstrating how my music theory works 🙈🙈 it’s so bad also the problem is that the whole thing w my music theory is harmonies WHICH MEANS that i would either need to recruit ppl to perform w me (i doubt many would be on board for one and for two i don’t think many if any have experience singing w sheet music etc nor do i trust them to get the right pitches which would be essential for the demonstration) OR have to make one of those videos w all the different frames of one person singing different parts and convince my professor to allow that before going up to the podium like Ahem i have employed a small chorus to demonstrate my music theory 😌 and then sit back and watch like 3-5 mini mes perform on the screen behind me DNDHKENF so as you can see no matter what this would go poorly
i’m also plotting an interview of sorts w my ap lit teacher part of which will be asking if i can shadow or assist him or smth at the end of the year (also probably help w the musical which he works w since i’d be there at the right time and alumni frequently come back to help w it anyway) bc i’m a dumbass who just can’t let go of the idea of an english major 🤪 i just think learning abt it directly and seeing an english-related job in action from the view of an outsider and in this case sort of the teacher (rather than one of the students) will help me make up my mind abt it. but i have not told anyone of my plans yet or even emailed him asking if the interview thing will work in the first place so 🤫🤫
as for movie recs i actually don’t watch a ton of movies that everyone hasn’t already seen (esp since i mostly watch animated ones) but les mis is on netflix now so obligatory recommendation for that <3 also newsies!! it’s not on netflix anymore tho it got moved to disney+. still the choreography for it is incredible so if you do check it out pls watch it rather than just listen to the soundtrack 🙏🏻 both newsies and les mis are musicals tho so for some variety over the moon and the little prince (both animated) were cute too! i can’t think of anything else rn dnjdnfk apologies

i’m not sure where to put this fic tbh. this first chapter is done, but there’s no second chapter yet and no concrete story on top of that, and it’s really just an idea i like to write at occasionally when the inspiration strikes
The very first oddity is that the calendar tells her it's the wrong day. When she'd closed her eyes the night before, it had been June. Now it's the end of May again. Haru spends a long moment contemplating that, searching her memory for an explanation for this inconsistency and coming up empty-handed.
Then, abruptly, she realizes this was quite an important day— and as she feels a sneeze coming on, she finds herself waiting for a frantic call from Hiromi... but it never does come. The morning continues on in its calm uninterrupted.
From there, the strangeness continues— her yard remains untouched, no cats follow her to school, and her locker she finds is home only to a stray broken buckle. Yet the rest of the day carries on much like it had the first time around. She is late to her first class (...still) and roped into taking Hiromi's place on clean-up duty after school, albeit this time perhaps more graciously than she'd truly felt originally. Were it not for the memories she already has of this day, she might be tempted to label it a smashing success as far as school days have gone.
The final oddity in a long line of oddities is that the little tan cat misses her visit, too— Haru, both by virtue of finding Machida little more than a still-handsome bauble by this point and knowing the construction is in her old path, doesn't find herself downtrodden or crestfallen by her solitude. She watches Machida and his girlfriend disappear into the schoolbuilding, musing on their imminent breakup, and is almost surprised by the sense of pity she feels about it.
It's then she notices the absence, and glances mournfully to the gate where she'd seen the cat the first time she'd lived through this day. (Hadn't she? What on earth is going on..? This is so much more than just a simple case of deja vu.) She can't really say she misses the conversation by itself, but its absence on top of all the others certainly feels strange.
She would swear, however, that something vaguely catlike had darted just out of her field of vision; she'd glimpsed only what could have been the faintest echo of a tail and hind paws.
It's not until much later that she realizes she'd managed to halfway convince herself that the rest of the day would not play out as it had before. She had felt no compulsion to seek out the Bureau, going about her day in a confused haze, and she kicks herself over that oversight the very second she spies a mutedly familiar cat lingering about the outside of her house near sundown.
It's the king's advisor, and he appears to have come alone. He seems also rather surprised to be greeted, straightening to a standing position and peering up at her in a way that speaks to some hesitation. She's reminded of his reaction to spying her hiding behind the little pillar in front of her house the first time they'd met.
"How did you make it to my house in broad daylight like that without drawing any attention?" Haru motions to the cat's clothes.
"...Ah. Do know I say this with the utmost amount of affection, but humans have quite the remarkable gift for rationalizing peculiarities," he answers after a brief moment spent casually surveying his person.
Seems he's just as formal as she'd remembered him being.
"Where's your tan-colored cohort? I was expecting her," Haru remarks lightly.
"...Natoru," the king's advisor is quick to inform her, in much the same light, casual manner she herself had employed to ask her indirect question, but he appears somewhat confused, again, by the observation. Perhaps she should take pains to be less suspicious. "She is normally our first choice for delivering messages, but I thought for such a significant occasion, I might make the trip myself."
Haru laughs, but even to her own ears it sounds uneasy. "Am I that important..?"
"Yes," the elderly cat responds, unflinching but with an understated sincerity that catches her off guard. Haru distractedly tucks a stray hair behind her ear and clears her throat.
"...And what's your name? Sorry, I never did catch it in all the chaos." Then, realizing that must sound rather odd to this 'version' of the advisor who has only met her once before, she tries to amend, "I-I mean— you know, last night. Um, when all of you came around—"
The king's advisor responds with only a permissive blink and the slightest nod, soon after saying, "It's Natori, Miss Haru. Do forgive me for not introducing myself sooner— I'm afraid my memory is not quite what it used to be, ha."
"It's alright. It was probably more important for you to introduce the king, I would assume." Then, "...You're here to whisk me off to the Cat Kingdom, aren't you? To marry the prince?"

Ok, but how would you writte a court of owls and a dick grayson fanfic, focusing on the abduction too, after all the traumas that being destained to be a talon could carry with?, just imagine dick noticing his family could have known this, and then boom, someway the court makes his way to dick core, bat fam have to fighthim, but focusing in all those conflicts and not only the fights
LOL I have a few different Court of Owls’ ideas running through my head at any given time, but for various reasons, some of which I can’t even identify, they almost always tend to be AUs of some kind, where I also play around with different takes on the family dynamics or how the family comes together in the first place. I have no clue why that particular plot point, the Court, tends to pair itself with unorthodox Batfam takes in my head, tbh. It just does.
As an example, the one I’ve come back to the most often and most recently when fiddling around with various WIPs when the chaos of my life these days allows for it, lol.....its called “Where Last We Left Off” and it goes AU from general pre Flashpoint comic book continuity when Dick is still Robin, around fourteen or so. Long enough into his time living with Bruce that they’ve reached a point of considering each other father and son, even if neither is saying as such yet, and past the point where the Titans first formed and and even after Kory first came to Earth, so Dick has well established friendships with Garth, Roy, Wally, Donna, Lilith and Kory at least.
So in it, I set up an initial prelude and then there’s a time skip to five years later, where all the actual fic takes place. My premise is basically that Batman has been operating in Gotham for about seven years by the prelude, Batman and Robin about four or five, and its only in the last couple of years that Batman’s started coordinating more consistently and officially with other heroes as a member of the Justice League. And the point of departure happens when the Court uncovers Batman and Robin’s secret identities while trying to rid themselves of Batman’s interference in their operations even though he’s not aware of them just yet. When they realize that Robin is none other than their intended Gray Son, they decide to try and kill two birds with one stone.
Cue Dick’s abduction, but with a twist. Rather than make him a Talon and subject him to the Talonization process or whatever that’s called, and employ brainwashing or mind control techniques to control him, they make themselves known to Bruce as the ones who took Dick, give him a taste of what the Talons are capable of and make sure he gets a good look at the changes to their physiologies and mental states, and then they make their demands. They won’t subject Dick to any of that.....so long as Bruce agrees to hang up his cape and cowl, and cease all vigilantism and contact with other heroes. They give him forty eight hours to make his decision, and leave him with the body of one of their Talons to ‘study’...in essence, making both an example of how little they care for their tools and think nothing of disposing of one, and to give Bruce more information than he really wants at the moment of all the kinds of things that Talon was subjected to in the ‘making’ of him.
Unable to find a hint of where they took Dick before the deadline, even when Bruce calls in Clark, Barry and a few others for help searching, Bruce ultimately agrees to their demands and ceases all activity as Batman in exchange for the occasional proof of life demonstrating that the Court are holding up their end of the bargain. If they see even a hint of vigilantism or working with other heroes, they warn, they’ll have no further use for Dick except as just another of their Talons.
Heartsick and with no real idea how to spend his days at first, or inclination to put much thought into coming up with ideas for that, as well as refusing to even speak with Clark and the others, let alone Dick’s friends, at the risk of that being overseen or heard and deemed ‘working with other heroes,’ Bruce ultimately funnels most of his time and energy into charity works and projects mostly born of idle ideas he remembers Dick mentioning every now and then, when complaining about how stupid the way certain things worked or skewering various flaws in the typical upper class reasonings of people he was expected to converse with at various galas....and then venting to Bruce all the way home.
Eventually, Bruce meets Jason in a different way than in canon, but still takes him in. Not to replace Dick of course, or because he’s given up on him (if he ever did that, after all, there’d be no reason for him not to go back out as Batman). But rather just because he has to do something, and the thought of caring for Jason and trying to be for him what he was for Dick, or at least hoped he’d been, it sparks the first real motivation he’s had since the abduction. The one thing he can’t bring himself to regret is taking Dick in, even as he blames himself for thinking so selfishly, since if he hadn’t done that, this would never have happened to Dick (not knowing yet that the Court was always intent on getting their hooks into Dick whether he was in the equation or not). But the point is, he can’t honestly say he wishes he’d never taken Dick in, even as selfish as he feels for that, so he doesn’t let his misgivings keep him from following his instincts with Jason, telling himself it’ll be different since he’s not Batman anymore. (Bottom line being his choice with Jason is still about Jason, not just as a proxy for Dick or anything).
Not all that long after, different events than canon result in him taking Tim in as well (with Tim not aware of his past as Batman at this point in this AU, since I’m positing that Dick was abducted before Tim happened to see Robin doing the flip that let him connect the necessary dots there). And not long after that, Bruce takes in Duke as well, and then finally, about a year before the five year time skip to present day, he takes in Cassandra, due to Barbara’s influence.
Babs has one of the bigger divergences in this AU, as I’m switching things around a little specifically to set Dick’s abduction at just before Babs becomes Batgirl. So she’s not really one of his friends at this point in life, and she sets out to become Batgirl pretty much right after Bruce hangs up the cape. Unable to even confront Batgirl as himself, lest the Court see that as an attempted return to vigilantism, but paranoid that they might view Batgirl as his attempt to work via a proxy, Bruce does a most un-Brucely thing....he anonymously tips off the Commissioner about his daughter’s vigilantism, and Jim Gordon puts a stop to that by unapologetically even playing the guilt trip card to keep his daughter from risking her life night after night. So Batgirl retires almost as soon as she begins, but that doesn’t mean Babs is out of the game by a longshot.
A big part of the reason for that divergence is I’ve always felt that Babs was going to become Oracle one way or another, no matter what road she took there, and although I love her as Batgirl, I don’t view it as fundamentally essential to her overall character as other early personas of other superheroes are. And despite the Bat theme, Barbara has never been dependent on Bruce either for guidance or resources, let alone validation......so I wanted to play around with what happens if you cut the Batgirl portion of Barbara’s life out of the picture completely.
So basically, she just starts becoming Oracle even earlier. She promised her dad she wouldn’t risk her life on the streets in a cape and a mask. She made no such promises about putting her computer skills to use for the greater good, in whatever ways she deems most efficient. Which ultimately leads to her working as a superhero information broker for a growing number of vigilantes who have no idea their cyber eyes and ears isn’t even quite of legal drinking age just yet, and from there, forming the Birds of Prey as satellite agents for missions she directs them towards in a Charlie’s Angels kind of way, where she’s just the voice on the radio so to speak. One of those missions results in Dinah, Helena and a couple others crossing paths with Cassandra, who returns with them to the States. She’s still just a teenager though, younger than when she first crossed paths with the Batfam in canon, only about thirteen here. And the Birds don’t think any of them themselves have the kind of home and stability they all agree she deserves, so they ask the ever mysterious Oracle if she knows of anyone....not realizing just yet that said Oracle is barely a decade older than Cassandra herself at this point. But the Oracle knows all...so she has an idea.
Bruce, being the Walking Guilt Complex that he is, felt shitty about interfering in her attempts at vigilantism even as much as he believes he made the right choice there. So after he adopts Jason, he contrived an excuse to hire Barbara in specific to be Jason’s tutor and catch him up to speed before he went back to school, so he’d have reason to allow Babs to become a regular presence at the Manor, and an excuse for him to help her out any way she might need or want. Not that she ever took him up on this, which frustrates him to no end, cuz can’t a billionaire just assuage his guilt complex in peace already, damn. But regardless, between Jason, Tim and Duke, she’s become a regular fixture at Wayne Manor over the years, even though for the opposite reasons as Bruce initially ‘hired’ her. After all, all three boys are basically geniuses in their own respective fashions, so its not like they need tutoring in the conventional sense once they caught up to speed in whatever ways they needed.
Rather, Babs is their tutor specifically in the areas of ‘making sure they don’t get so bored with their schooling, they turn to blowing things up and/or world domination as a hobby’. Basically, an overachieving perfectionist know-it-all hired to help three overachieving perfectionist know-it-all kids reach their full academic potential unhindered by their conventional schooling, which at this point is basically just something that Bruce insists on so the boys get regular social interaction, while Babs concocts their actual curriculums that actually interest them and they do on their own time.
Anyway, so while seeking a placement for Cass that Babs thinks is deserving of her, she ultimately thinks of Bruce, and calls in that favor, albeit in a most unconventional sense. Babs doesn’t know Bruce was Batman at this point either, given how effectively he covered his tracks when he hung up the cape and how pointedly he’s kept away from all vigilantism since....but she knows each of his three boys have very different backgrounds and had trouble adjusting at first because of various issues...all of which Bruce spared no expense in addressing, more in terms of his own direct focus and parenting rather than fiscally. He’s a good dad, here, a great dad, since he’s basically poured all the energy and drive he once devoted to vigilantism to what he now feels he should have focused it on instead....being the father he wished he’d been to Dick and wasn’t going to make the mistake of not being now.
All of which makes Babs think that he might not only be willing to take in Cassandra, but that he might be the best one for her. And so after a lot of cloak and dagger obscurity that would be completely unnecessary if all the parties in question knew all the relevant information about each other, Cassandra ends up at Wayne Manor too.
All of this is essentially backstory for the in between time between the prelude and the actual fic, unveiled and doled out via information conveyed in the present day. But where the actual fic begins, Bruce is committed to being Superdad to Jason, Tim, Duke and Cass, none of whom know he was Batman or the true nature of what happened to their mysterious elder brother who according to the news and what little Bruce and Alfred are willing to say, was abducted years ago with no attempt made to seek a ransom and no idea who did it or why.
Meanwhile, the kids have their own secrets, as Cass has been sneaking out into the city at night and stopping petty crimes and running into some girl in a purple hoodie who calls herself Spoiler. Tim’s preoccupied with a longtime personal quest of his....figure out who the elusive Oracle, all-knowing master of the cyberways is, and in doing so perhaps win their approval and mentorship. And Duke’s metahuman abilities have recently begun manifesting, and Jason ends up helping him test them and figure out what all he can do (after Jason catches Duke in the act of practicing his ghost vision and Duke has to convince him he’s not crazy and nobody needs to tell Bruce).
And that in turn leads to Duke exploring the house with aid of his powers, trying to learn more about the mysterious missing eldest, and Jason distracting him every five seconds by whispering “what do you see now,” because Jason has also long been endlessly entranced by the mystery of Dick Grayson, and also, Jason has no chill.
With all of the above being the dynamic in existence in ‘present day’....when Dick escapes the Court and returns home.
So the story itself is all about Dick trying to deal with the aftermath of everything that happened to him while the Court’s hostage, and everything that didn’t happen to him and that he missed out on, coming in at the eleventh hour to a family that’s now almost fully formed all in his absence....with a seat at the table that’s been reserved for him the whole time, but with him uncertain as to where and how he fits in all of this.
All while being as cryptic about things as possible, because the one and only thing he and Bruce seem able to agree on, after their bittersweet reunion that doesn’t go how either of them ever imagined it....is to keep the other kids out of all this by any means necessary. Upon learning that Bruce hasn’t been Batman in years and the others know nothing about any of this, Dick’s firm on believing they should keep it that way as he doesn’t even know them yet, but he does know he isn’t willing to risk anything like what happened to him happening to any other child, related to him or not. And Bruce is perhaps too willing to accommodate Dick on this because he still feels this is all his fault, and telling the others everything would mean admitting to them what a terrible father he once was.
Which, he wasn’t, is the thing. One of the many things Dick’s struggling to reconcile now, because just like in the comics, Dick’s early years with Bruce were good more often than they were bad. He realizes upon seeing how easily the other kids interact with Bruce in a parent and child way that this is something he’s envious of, and in hindsight wanted even before he was kidnapped, but now he doesn’t know how to voice that or his fear that that Bruce would only be willing to offer that to him now out of guilt, that if he’d really wanted that kind of relationship with Dick, they would have had it before he disappeared.
Add to that the fact that Dick can’t make up his mind whether he’s grateful and touched that Bruce gave up being Batman just for the chance it might keep him safe from the fate of the Court’s Talons.....because sometimes, Dick resents it deeply...or not resents, per se, but more that he didn’t know the specifics of what was going on in the outside world beyond where the Court kept him, or that they’d made Bruce give up being Batman....so finding that out upon escaping is messing with his head more than he expected, and now he can’t help but feel aware of all the people over the years that could have been helped by Batman but weren’t, because of Dick. Basically, the Son of the Walking Guilt Complex, aka Walking Guilt Complex Jr., is blaming himself and his getting kidnapped, for being the reason Bruce isn’t a superhero anymore.
Meanwhile, it was not a good idea to keep all of this hush hush, if for no other reason than that its impossible to recover from a life-changing ordeal like this at home, when that home is filled with four other people you and two others are all committed to keeping the full details of what happened a secret from. Its not at all the homecoming Dick was picturing and had dreamed of, and he catches himself at times feeling resentful of the others for being there at all, before feeling guilty because the truth is he really is glad that Bruce took them all in and has been good for them, that he still found a way to help people and be true to himself even without being Batman.
There’s other stuff involved too, like the fact that Dick is still keeping things from even Bruce, like everything that happened to him in the Court, because a) he doesn’t want to talk about it, b) he’s afraid of the guilt spiral it’ll send Bruce into, to know that all this time he’d done everything he could to keep Dick safe by giving the Court no reason to break their word....when they never actually made any promise not to try and break Dick by methods not part of their usual Talon process, and c) he doesn’t want to talk about it.
And of course, all his old friends and teammates desperately want to see him and reconnect with him, which he fluctuates between wishing it was easier to explain who they were and have them around without risking their own identities with his new siblings.....and being grateful that keeping the Big Secret from said siblings meant they could only be around so much (like Clark and Diana, etc, who now simply would not be kept away period)....because like with Bruce, Dick is having trouble coming to terms with how much they’ve all changed while he was gone and how much he’s changed, and what this means for them all and how they even FIT now, if they even do at all.
All of which ultimately builds to Dick sneaking out at night to return to vigilantism himself, which makes Bruce throw an epic freakout when he finds out because he only just got Dick back and is not about to risk losing him again. And with Dick trying to convey that he NEEDS this, now perhaps even more than he ever did before, because its the only thing he knows, the only thing that feels familiar, feels right at this point, while everything else is confusing as hell. And even more than that, he needs it in order to feel like the last five years haven’t cost him everything, that they haven’t...’ruined’ him, because what’s the point of him even being home if he’s just as lost and confused as ever and he can’t even save people, do the one thing that’s always made all the shit he’s ever been through feel worthwhile, like it means something?
He needs it, he can’t give this up forever just because something terrible happened one time, that probably would have happened in some form even if he hadn’t been a hero, given what he found out from the Court about his family line. And he’s not wrong to feel that way, is the problem, much like its a problem that Bruce isn’t wrong to feel that if nothing else, its too soon for Dick to be doing this again, and he hasn’t remotely handled any of the many issues weighing on him and the trauma he’s still unwilling to address.
And it doesn’t help that all the while, Bruce has been wrestling with his own uncertainty as to whether to go back to being Batman now that Dick’s safe again and the combined might of the Justice League and Titans have followed his escape route back to the Court and come down on it with extreme zeal. Or whether he even wants to, anymore, if he can justify the risks it includes while now a father in truth not just to Dick but four other kids too (and yes, Damian exists in this AU, he’s just not here yet). He doesn’t want to leave any of his kids without a father, and even more than that, he doesn’t want any of the others following in his and Dick’s footsteps, which also plays a factor in freaking out at Dick’s quick return to a mask.
But he can’t deny that he does miss it too, and more importantly, he misses the way he and Dick used to understand each other without a word, in perfect sync as they swung over the city together. He can’t help but feel like it would be so much easier for him and Dick to understand each other, communicate with each other, if they were back on the same page even if just for one night for old time’s sake. And also he worries about Dick maybe growing to resent his siblings if he feels like they’re the only reason he won’t go back to being Batman, he won’t let there ever be a Batman and Robin again....which then startles him into worrying that on some level he’s afraid of growing to resent his other kids for being the reason not to do that. And around and around and around it goes.
And then the other kids figure it out in their own ways and everything really blows up.
And its hard and messy and painful and nothing short or easily fixed. And there are no good choices or easy choices or right choices. Just a lot of good people trying to make the most good come out of the most bad, and not a clue what that actually means or looks like, let alone how to go about it.
Ultimately, its Dick at age 19, coming of age in the most unconventional of ways, trying to figure out who he is and who he wants to be after everything that’s happened, and dragging his whole family along for the ride as they’re all forced to ask the same question and then compare notes and hope that even if they’re not all on the same page, they’re all at least somewhere to be found in the same book.
Its about how you can’t go home again....even when home is exactly where you left it, and everything looks exactly the same but everything is different and nothing and no one will ever be the same ever again.
But that doesn’t mean the trek isn’t worth making, because sometimes the only way to make it forward to who you want to be now....is to first go back to where you last were when last you trusted who you were and what you wanted. So you can make your peace with leaving that road untraveled before finding your new direction and setting forth on that road instead.
*Shrugs* So yeah, that’s my ideal Court of Owls related fic. “Where Last We Left Off.”
Not quite the kind of fic you were describing, lol, but I do seem to insist on being unconventional with my takes, lmao.

London By Night, Chapter One
The sequel to You Send Me! Freddie and our FtM trans reader finally home in London, with a bit of time to spend before the 1979 European tour begins!
And yes, another Sam Cooke song as the title. I’ve got a theme going now lol.
NSFW right away in this one, just a moment of it. There’ll be more later, I promise lol.
A note that I did touch on a sore point in my own life, re: alcohol for comfort around family. It’s just a brief short paragraph, but I wanted to note it so it doesn’t come as a triggering surprise for anyone (even writing it made me want a drink, tbh, but I’m trying really hard not to lean on drinking rn for comfort of any kind.)
My love to all who read/like/reblog!
“So?”
Despite the long, turbulent flight, Freddie was smiling at you.
“I like it.”
He laughed, and motioned for you to follow him down the airport halls. “Just from here, you’re certain?”
You nodded. “It’s...busy. Really busy. Busy enough no one seems to give a shit who we are or what we’re doing. I never got that back at home.”
“No, certainly not,” Freddie tutted, and you knew he was thinking on how the trip back to your home town had been less than ideal. He’d been recognized more than once, and not always treated kindly as a result. It had made an already not fun trip even harder to deal with, and now it made you all the happier to finally be in London.
“I am sorry about all that mess,” you sighed as you tried to keep up with Freddie, slipping around crowds of people, ignoring the heads that turned at hearing Freddie’s voice. “They could have at least made Christmas and Boxing Day decent...”
“Don’t even think on Christmas again; we don’t need to remember that,” Freddie said, reaching back to tug you through a particularly rough thicket of people. “As far as I’m concerned, our memories were fortunately wiped of that day. We know they existed, and that we lived through them, and that’s all we need to know.”
You nodded. “That’s probably for the best.”
It had been a shit show, frankly. You grandparents had certainly not been sick to death, only struggling through some difficult colds, and couldn’t figure out why your mother had demanded you home. As fantastic as it had been to know they were fine, it meant the holiday had gone as “usual” for your family, which meant tears, tantrums, complaining, at least one person stomping off mid-way through present-opening, and you working to drink yourself into a stupor to get through it.
If it hadn’t been for Freddie, you might have drank yourself blind, but thanks to his bright idea of getting away from it all under the guise of ‘showing him about town’, there was some escape.
“I do want to remember the park,” you said as you followed him to a waiting car. “That was a good few hours, and at least the day we spent in New Orleans was lovely.”
That had been your last day in the States, and where you had flown out from to London. It hadn’t been nearly long enough, but for a moment of refreshment and happiness, it had been good.
He smiled. “Those parts we should remember. Everything else, forget it. And if my family asks-”
“We had a perfectly fine holiday and my family are definitely not the weirdest near-psychopaths you’ve ever met,” you chirped as you tried to arrange yourself and your luggage in the backseat of the car.
He rolled his eyes as he joined you. “I don’t know about psychopaths...manipulative and self-centered, for sure.”
“Either way, your parents don’t need to know about that,” you said, and started to lean in for a kiss, then stopped.
The driver watched you both via the rear view mirror, a scowl on his face.
“Just a random driver hired,” Freddie whispered, shooting you a glance that read ‘be careful.’ “Not one of our usual employ.”
You nodded, and sat back in your seat, watching the scenery of the city flash by as the driver sped down the streets.
“Still like it?”
“I do,” you replied. “I’ve always wanted to live in a bigger city. I can’t wait to go out and see it, any of it. Even just your garden!”
“No garden yet, unfortunately,” he sighed. “But soon. I’ve got my eyes on a few nicer places, and now that I have the money-”
He shrugged. “Why put off living somewhere decent, hm? Not that there’s anything wrong with a flat, I mean, only-”
“Not everyone wants to live in a flat forever,” you interrupted. “I know I wouldn’t. And how long have you all been struggling to find and afford nicer housing? You deserve it, all of you, to be in something better. You’ve worked hard for it.”
“You’ll still find the current flat impressive?”
“As long as it’s yours, yes, I will,” you giggled. “Am I to assume mine is just as good?”
“Of course,” he said. “With all the room a one bedroom can give you.”
“In other words...”
“Don’t have too much stuff, and don’t ever actually look at how ‘big’ it is,” Freddie sighed. “If you can manage that, you can pretend you don’t feel like an insect trapped in a jar.”
The car pulled up in front of a frankly beautiful building, and you followed Freddie out of it and to one of the doors into it.
“Now, I should let you know,” Freddie started. “We’re actually still waiting on the current tenants to finish moving out of your place, apparently. I don’t know all what happened, John has more details since wrangling this all went through our office, but in the meantime I thought you could...”
He stopped, and for a minute you saw one of his other sides, the shy Freddie that hung back at times during parties, happy to stick to you and the rest of the guys and be open and fun with you, but less interested in immediately pulling any spotlight towards him.
“If you want to, I should say. I mean, I don’t know where else you’d go, and I really should have told you this sooner, and I apologize for not doing that and-”
“Love?” you interrupted him. “If what you’re trying to say is that I’m staying with you, then I’m thrilled.”
He grinned. “Good. It’s a bit tight, of course, since it’s usually just me. But it’s a roof over your head, at least.”
It was small, but it was beautiful. Decorated gorgeously, with various bits and pieces you were sure Freddie had picked up in the market. Despite how little time there would be to spend there before the next tour would start, it felt like a home.
“Mary is just nearby us as well,” he said. “We’ll have to pay her a visit in the time we’ve got.”
“It goes fast, doesn’t it?”
He nodded grimly, taking your luggage from you, only to toss it by his in the bedroom. “We’ve got till...ah, I should check and make sure I’m remembering right. Seventeenth of January, I think?”
“Think that’s it,” you mumbled, walking back to the bedroom to search your bags for your copy of the upcoming itinerary.
“You’re the first one I’ve brought in here that hasn’t immediately started snooping around like you own the place,” Freddie was behind you suddenly, and you turned from your bag to look up his long legs. “And the first one I didn’t have to prompt to take off your shoes in the house. I appreciate that.”
“You know my family some now,” you said. “They don’t let shoes on in the house either. I’m in no rush to pick up wearing them in as a habit either. And this is your room, I’m just crashing here. It would be wrong of me to start...god, just going through your things? What is wrong with people?”
He shrugged. “I’ve asked the ones that did rifle about my wardrobe and closet, but none have ever had a good answer for that.”
“Well,” you said, and stood up, draping your arms around his shoulders. “I won’t be doing anything of the sort. If I should need to find something, I will be asking you, thank you very much.”
“Your mother raised such a polite boy,” Freddie sighed. “Shame she isn’t more proud of that.”
You winced, as the memory of your mother’s cold reception of you and Freddie during your time home came rushing back. “Let’s not think of her anymore. Not now. Not until the next American tour, maybe.”
“As you wish, my prince,” he said, and grinned at your blush. “I think I’m going to keep calling you that. Look at you!”
The nickname had come about after a long night in your hometown, trying to be quiet after you’d sneaked into the guest room your mother had insisted Freddie stay in. You had talked long about how the chance to move finally, and with him to London no less, made you feel like a prince in a fairy tale. Finally found by the rest of the kingdom, ready to take your proper place on the throne. Even if, in this case, the throne was merely being able to be with Freddie and continuing to work for Queen.
“You can’t call me that in front of the guys,” you giggled. “They’ll have a field day with it.”
“No, I won’t use it in front of them,” Freddie agreed. “But that’s because it’s just for us.”
“I like that.”
“As do I,” Freddie said softly. “Now, what if we show you around the place a bit?”
You frowned slightly. “I mean...I don’t want to be rude, Freddie. But from stepping in, you can see-”
“You’ve not had a tour of the bed yet,” Freddie interrupted with a cheeky smile. “Or should I make you wait for that? Shall I create more stops on the tour first? Maybe we ought to head out to a pub first, wander around and let you explore. Then, if we have time, we could tour the bed.”
You pressed yourself against him, and kissed him hard. To make up for the interrupted kiss in the car, for the many kisses you had to hold back while in your home town.
He kissed you back just as hard, but he let you down gentle onto the bed, and watched you yawn. “You should sleep.”
“I’m fine.”
“You say that now, but have you ever traveled out of the States?”
You shook your head.
“Your body needs to catch up to the time change,” Freddie said. “So tell you what. We’ll save the in-depth tour for sometime tomorrow. For now, let me give you the quick tour of the bed.”
You watched as he stripped off his shirt, unbuttoned his trousers and tossed them in a corner of the room once they were off. His eyes followed your hands as you undressed yourself, and you wanted to yell at yourself for being as tired as you had tried to pretend you weren’t.
“Here,” he murmured, and motioned for you to lay back on the bed. “Rest.”
Your hands roamed his shoulders, taut and strong, as he moved over you, then against you, his lips at your neck.
And then a yawn.
“Is my tour guide going to fall asleep on me, literally?” you giggled.
He pressed his forehead against your shoulder. “Possibly.”
You moved gently, until you were both laying side by side, hips close, legs intertwined. Your head rested against his shoulder, and you begged your eyes to stay open.
But it was as if the chance to finally rest, to not be traveling, running, doing, constantly had flipped a switch. There was no fighting it, especially as you listened to the slowing of Freddie’s breath, his arms around you dead weight as he slept.
You stared down the clock for a bit, just visible on the bedside table when you looked past Freddie, until your eyes shut again.

interaction guide for alison!
last edited: april 6th, 2021
***please be sure to read the note at the end of this guide pertaining to interactions with alison as a muse!***
alison is a complex muse. for the most part, i’d say she is pretty flexible with some limitations ( more on that in the note at the end of this guide ). slice of life plots, romantic/friendship plots, and generally lighthearted interactions are the easiest to start with alison, though angst certainly has its place as well under the right conditions. while alison is very kind, very loving, and overall a fairly soft type of muse, she is also incredibly strong ( not necessarily in a physical sense unless we’re talking about her spy verse ) and, in main verse, will not take kindly to being treated like a pushover. this is important to keep in mind so as to not baby alison and overlook the fact she has gone through a lot to get where she is now.
fashion-related plots — in her main verse, alison is employed by her aunt as a designer for her aunt’s clothing line. it’s not a huge label, but it’s fairly noteworthy, so alison gets to experience quite a significant chunk of the fashion world. as part of her job, she also assists in fashion shows and travels quite frequently to different cities, and in her free time, she runs an art and fashion blog and dabbles in sewing at home. needless to say, fashion inspires alison a lot, so meeting other muses who are involved in the fashion industry or who are also interested generally in fashion would be a nice way for alison to meet them. fashion plots aren’t limited to main verse, either — in high school and in post-high school verse, she’s always looking for ways to make a little extra cash, so if a good opportunity arises, she’ll take it. some ideas below include scenarios where your muse:
works in the fashion industry and meets alison on a business trip ( airport thread anyone? )
is part of a fashion show staff or is a model that works closely with alison ( imagine your muse wearing something alison designed though :weeps: )
needs their outfit tailored. this can be professionally, for example, alison doing part time work as a tailor to make a little extra cash, or casually, like alison is a friend your muse knows can sew and so they ask her to tailor as a favor.
just needs some fashion advice for a big date/event/job interview so they ask alison for input. on the same vein, alison can be your muse’s personal stylists as a job too !!
works in the same office as alison at the fashion firm and collaborates with her on a design
works in the same office as her and just hates her because your muse thinks she got handed everything to her bc the ceo of the company is her aunt
asks alison to design something for them, whether that be an outfit for a special occasion ( prom dress, wedding dress, suit, costume, ect ) or something for a fashion show!
art/music/photography related plots — fashion and art go hand-in-hand when it comes to alison’s inspirations and big interests. she dabbles in a lot of hobbies, and while she’ll go through phases where one interest may wane while the other waxes, painting, playing the piano, and taking photographs are three big hobbies that will always be close to her heart. my favorite plots involve alison being able to express herself creatively through her artwork, and allowing another muse to see her artwork is a fairly intimate interaction tbh just because alison doesn’t usually share much about her hobbies to others aside from “oh yeah, i do x,y,z for fun sometimes.” some plots under this category involve scenarios where your muse:
talks to alison about shared interests such as watercolors, sketching, photography, or music ( specifically piano )
encounters alison while she’s painting, drawing, playing the piano, or taking pictures. photography especially is a big one since she runs her fashion and art blog, and i wouldn’t put it past her to run like a food/travel instagram either so she’s always taking photos !!
asks alison to take their photo ( or a photo of them and their crew ) just because they can’t do it themselves and surprise it turns out alison takes some bomb ass photos
is alison’s art muse. this can be that they pose for a sketch/painting or, if we wanna get interesting, your muse actually allowing alison to paint on their body since i headcanon that alison experiments with body art to make some really powerful creations before photographing the model to add to her portfolio.
asks alison to be their art muse ( which, would get her v flustered bc she never thought she’d be someone’s muse, ever. but she’d also be very flattered ).
gets piano lessons from alison
asks alison to take pictures for their prom/wedding/graduation/just because they want a photoshoot !!!!
asks alison to play piano for their super special fancy event that has live music !!!!
post-high school verse plots ( trigger warnings may be applicable ) — post-high school is where the bulk of alison’s time as a sex worker is spent, either when she’s with her ex-boyfriend grant or after they broke up since she continues to do sex work to support herself even after she leaves him. sex work for alison includes a variety of activities including prostitution, escorting, and sugaring ( being a sugar baby ), so plots in this verse are not limited to sexual encounters. in fact, i’ve had a lot of fun discussing with other muns plots and relationships that started out in a post high school setting but evolved into a new canon for alison where she finds her footing and breaks away from sex work in a manner different from her actual canon!! in other words, post-high school verse is the point in alison’s life where significant events can really change the course of alison’s life, so interesting things can really come out of interactions started in this verse. this verse does canonically have a lot of triggers due to the nature of alison’s relationship with grant, but we definitely don’t have to delve into that dark side if you don’t want to <3 some plot ideas under this category involve scenarios where your muse:
is one of alison’s clients ( regular or first time ). being a client of alison’s is such a broad plotting point with so many possibilities that i’m just going to put some plot bunnies all in this bullet point: 1) it can be an instance of your muse paying alison to be their first sexual encounter for whatever reason you choose; 2) a misunderstanding where someone else paid alison to come visit your muse but your muse actually has no interest in sex with her. but maybe they could just hang out with her maybe? gives more sustenance to the plot than her just going home lmao but if she did go home it’s possible this mishap is a conversation starter when they meet again someplace else! 3) your muse could also just be really nice to alison and their encounters start to blur the lines between business, a casual relationship, and something romantic. in any case, they spend a lot of time with each other, so they get to know each other real well. again, can be romantic or no strings attached, though the latter will probably be difficult for alison in the long run. 4) your muse and alison regularly hang out and chat in exchange for payment or gifts; why your muse decides to pay for company is up to you. this plot has potential for a very pure sugar baby relationship, no sex needed. 5) tries to be a savior and financially supports alison so she doesn’t have to do sex work anymore, or at the very least, allow her more of a means to find her footing so that she can decide where she wants to take her life.            these are just some ideas, but you’re never limited to them. a client/sex worker relationship doesn’t have to be a bad experience for either muses, and the basic idea i’m getting at is that the dynamic can be sexual or just your muse looking for company and some affection in exchange for money or some other gift. there’s definite possibility for platonic relations here since sugaring isn’t always sexual. whether or not grant is still in the picture can also impact this plot idea and change it radically too, so more options for you if you’d like!
is in need of a fake date/girlfriend. this can be a one time thing or a regular thing. to add onto this — if it’s a regular thing, a “breaking up” plot when alison decides to move on from being a sex worker is a possibility, and your muse can either handle this really well and support her decision to pursue something else, or they can freak out and things turn toxic because they become unhealthily attached and possessive of her.
attended the same university as alison and notices a few things. post-high school verse does include a short period in time in which alison is a university student, so it’s possible for your muse to have befriended her in a class, and as such, they might notice that she stops coming to class suddenly. they can then run into her a while later and asks her about it, or they can actually find out what kind of work she’s been doing somehow while attending school despite alison telling your muse she does something else.
talks a lot of shit about alison and spreads nasty rumors about her while she’s still enrolled in college, which kind of helps her find more clients but also just really negatively affects her image too ( and she confronts your muse about it )
high school verse plots ( trigger warnings may be applicable ) — high school verse holds the bulk of alison’s interactions with cedric and nate. this verse also has a lot of triggering details since quite frankly, cedric and nate are actually terrible people. heavy plots containing serious matters can come from this verse, but lighthearted school plots can also come from this verse! below are some some ideas in which your muse:
knows about how much of a asshole cedric is being to alison and tries to convince her to break up with him.
knows that nate is harassing/blackmailing alison and gets involved somehow.
protects alison during high school because bullies just love to pick on her for no reason, so they become her protector of sorts.
is one of alison’s bullies. can either run with the drama and use that to make life even more difficult for alison, or they can have a change of heart where they realize how much nate and cedric fucked over alison.
is one of alison’s close friends in high school; can be a classmate, an upperclassman, an underclassman, someone she only sees during clubs or at lunch.
is a teacher alison learns to trust and really confide in, especially when it comes to her life at home, her relationships, or her assault. can extend this plot idea out to older muses in general who alison may learn to trust!!
has a crush on alison uwu she may be dating cedric canonically, but we can work something out. it’s not like cedric was faithful to alison anyway—
royalty/aristocrat verse plots — alison does have a royalty verse with very, very, basic information fleshed out, but i’m not super attached to what’s written in her royalty verse. i mostly enjoy writing royalty threads with alison due to how regal she is in her mannerisms, so i really like writing her as someone with royalty status uwu. this sentiment can extend to plots where alison is some sort of aristocrat as well, but a rags to riches story ( or vice versa ) is also fun since that’s kind of what happens to alison and her family anyway in canon. so please consider plots in which your muse:
has a forbidden relationship with princess alison and the two of you have to keep it a secret and work through whether your relationship will last or not ( bodyguard/princess; princess/princess; princess/prince who isn’t the one she’s arranged with; princess/commoner )
is arranged to marry princess alison but she’s so anti-arranged marriage that she doesn’t even want to look at you let alone talk to you ( or the reverse — your muse just refuses to acknowledge alison )
holds the princess hostage for ransom ( could be money, could be something revolutionary like wanting the royal family to change laws to benefit the people )
helps alison conceive a child. as much as alison wants to have a child, conceiving a child can be incredibly difficult even under the best conditions, and with how much weight is put on a woman for conceiving the next heir, stress can make it even more difficult to conceive. so :eyes: how your muse helps her is up for discussion.
other verse/au/wishlist plots — in addition to royalty verse, alison also has an alternate verse, a werewolf verse ( note: this isn’t an abo/omegaverse setting even though i do draw elements from this verse ), and a spy verse. the wishlist tag is also another option if anything strikes your fancy!
alternate verse — this is a very general verse that essentially captures interactions in which the canon events of alison’s high school and post high school events do not happen. additionally, alternate verse alison was raised differently from canon alison such that she was not socialized to uphold traditional feminine gender roles. in other words, she was not discouraged from acting more tomboyish as a kid, and she was not raised in a strict environment that forced her to act a certain way and as such, alison’s trajectory in life is very different. alternate alison is more aggressive, more forward, and she can be a bit of a misandrist. she tends to be more social than canon alison in the sense that she’ll go clubbing, partying, and barhopping more readily, and her career path is a little less developed ( re: she’s not tied down to a fashion job and can take on all sorts of work depending on what makes sense for a thread ).
werewolf verse — a post explaining the basics of this verse can be found here! alison’s in this verse is a blend of canon and alternate alison in how she acts. because she was raised without a pack for most of her life, her only family being her brother, emile, alison learned to carry herself like an alpha even though she’s an omega, which leads to a lot of problems when she meets other, actual alphas who try to hit on her or take control. this is where alternate alison’s aggression can come in. on the contrary, canon alison’s maternal instinct and affectionate nature becomes apparent whenever werewolf alison decides to eventual settle with a serious partner, whether that be another werewolf she’s bonded with ( up to mun’s decision whether bonding is a thing in our thread ), or someone else she loves.            i’d like to re-emphasize that this is not a true omegaverse even though i do categorize muses as alphas, omegas, or betas, mention bonding between werewolves, nesting, heat/rut, and the use of suppressants to control the severity of heat. the description of these topics, however, are very tame as the focus of this verse is not unhealthy power imbalances or plotless smut. this verse exists bc werewolves are cool, and also because the idea of bonding between partners is where i find the most interest since true bonding really embodies the “to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until parted by death” sentiment in marriage vows except even to a more serious degree. so yeah — werewolves. have your werewolf meet mine. she can take care of yours or you know, keep them company.
spy verse — also known as handler and hound verse on this blog due to reasons. this is essentially an espionage verse in which alison is a rather high ranking field agent. she’s older in this verse than in canon ( 31 vs. 24, though her age in spy verse can vary depending on plot ), and is technically engaged to her agency assigned partner. this verse opens up the opportunity for morally grey muses to interact with her. the best way to learn more about this verse is to read this link which should outline all the details you should know about this verse’s setting, this link for a tl;dr ( not recommended ) and look through the verse tag for aesthetics and answered asks set in this verse!
miscellaneous plots — these are plots that don’t fall into a defined category for whatever reason ( mostly because they aren’t developed yet ) but i’d still love to explore them <3
future plot — i think about this a lot because i have such an immense love for alison, but i’ve headcanoned that once alison is older, she becomes a very big advocate for sex workers those who have been in domestically abusive relationships with a romantic partner. it takes her years to find the courage to share her story, but after years of volunteering at women’s shelters and doing charity work, she eventually finds her calling to take things a bit further. it’s possible your muse encounters alison during her volunteer work or while she’s a guest speaker sharing her story at some event. really though, i think it’d be interesting for muses to interact with alison when she’s a lot older since she’d have so much time at this point to process her trauma and, hopefully, seek the help she needs.
angel  plot — alison is an angel and is very much one to stick by the rules and be good. a big contrast to leah’s angel verse in which leah is childish and does whatever the fuck she wants. angel alison is more experienced and is regarded as a good angel, but her curiosity about romantic love might get her into trouble.
childhood plot — alison is a tomboy who kicks ass; the older she is, the more feminine she’ll be ( unless it’s alternate alison, in which she only gets more aggressive ); your muse is an older muse or a fellow child who interacts with her ( male child muses beware! she’ll make you eat dirt if you aren’t nice to her or emile! )
single mother plot — this would straight up be a self-indulgent plot for me to be able to play alison as a mother. she absolutely adores kids, and while the circumstances in which she has a kid in this plot wouldn’t be ideal, she’d love her kid with all her heart, and this would allow your muse to help her raise her child, try for a romantic relationship with her, or maybe they’re the other parent??? just tossing thoughts around, i just really love alison as a mom :weep:
——————————————
now that you’ve made it to the end of the guide, please read this important note about alison before interacting with her!
tl;dr — please respect my muse and don’t force scenarios that would not make sense for her to be in on me. she’s a fairly flexible muse, but i will not ignore specific, canon, character traits just to make a plot work. i’m open to discussions regarding how to make an idea work ( which includes perhaps using one of alison’s other verses ), but please don’t assume. also read her character bio — this is a must ( trigger warnings are included ).
like i’ve said before, alison is a very complex muse. i’d like to think she’s a fairly flexible muse but with some limitations as a result of her experiences. if you’ve read alison’s biography ( which you should have, and in fact, i expect you to since it’s very crucial to her as a muse ), you’d know she has been through a lot of traumatic events. as such, she has developed certain mannerisms, tendencies, and thought processes as a result of what she has been through. these behaviors, such as being very wary of men when she’s alone with them in a setting that goes beyond a normal, casual interaction ( e.g. a man ringing her up at a cash register at a store ), are engrained in her character, and it takes a lot of time and trust building for her to change any behavioral patterns she may have.
i say this to preface the fact that if you have any plot ideas you’d like to share with me, please take into consideration whether it makes sense for alison in her canon verse if that’s the verse you’re interested in. canon alison, in short, is not the type to form casual, sexual relationships. if this is what you’re looking for, look elsewhere. there are exceptions to this, but these exceptions have involved a lot of plotting to make it work and make sense. i could say more on the matter, but for now, i’ll just say that alison behaves very different depending on what period of life she is in. as such, canon/main verse alison behaves differently than post-high school alison, who behaves differently than high school alison. alternate, werewolf, and spy verse alison behaves even more radically different than the former three. so you certainly have options if you’re really interested in a specific plot for alison! i’m very open to ideas, but i ask that you also respect my muse and what she’s been through as well since i’ve worked hard on her backstory.

Top 10 2019
For the past couple of years I’ve been doing a top 10 list for the year in music that I like. This includes an a category for my favorite LP and EP from the year as well as a top 10 songs. I’ve also decided this year that I will be talking about other honorable mentions that are wonderful but did not make the list and some artists that had incredible years.
Let’s start with this years music for me, which was incredible. As many know I actually released a song in November on all streaming platforms. Something I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time and is super surreal to see happen. Makes me so happy to have accomplished that, thanks to everyone who has listened. Here’s a link if you haven’t yet and would like to listen!
It’s no shocker to people that know me that I am dumb passionate about dance music so as expected most of the list is just that. It was also a great year for pop music too though so there’s some pop in here as well. You can find a playlist of the top songs, as well as Lightwave here. I’ve also gone ahead and linked all the songs and albums mentioned below.
LP of the Year
Hi This Is Flume - Flume
Wow this one was wild. Most people kinda expected there to be some new Flume coming, it had been a while since we got any and there had been a ton of rumors. But he really shocked everyone when he announced randomly that he was releasing an entire mixtape the next day. It’s 17 songs and an incredible experience from front to back, with each song flowing into the next one. Not only was there a ton of new music but he also released a large visualizer to go along with it. The visualizer and music together really made it what it is. The visualizer largely consists of Harley, aka Flume, walking through various environments or driving a custom car through the desert. There’s some trippy stuff happening with editing and some really weird visual effects. One of my favorite parts of the video is at the end where he walks up to the ocean and the water cuts vertically, looking like an amazing wall of water. Looks so surreal, which kind of describes the albums sound in a nutshell. The entire album is a journey through sound design and it really challenges the listener to question what is expected in music. Flume’s signature style lends itself very well to such ideas with the choppiness that he so often employs. He mixes a wide variety of styles into the mixtape, from more traditional future bass like Wormhole and Spring and hip hop such as High Beams. A majority of the album is instrumental, letting the production and accompanying visuals do most of the storytelling. However, there are still some vocal features such as JPEGMAFIA and of course Kucka. The album also includes features from two incredible producers, Sophie and Eprom, both of which were very big surprises to me. Every song on the album has a specific place and together the full picture is created, listening to this album front to back is truly inspiring. When I did my first listen through I was blown away and taken to what felt like another world, which is why I’m choosing Hi This Is Flume over any of the other great albums that came out this year.
Some other incredible albums from this year deserve recognition as well:
Good Faith - Madeon
This one was absolutely in 2nd place and the only reason it isn’t in first place is because there’s a song or two I wasn’t particularly fond of. While I don’t think Good Faith is as good as Madeon’s debut album Adventure it certainly has an amazing cohesiveness and style to it that sets it apart. Good Faith has a much more organic sound, utilizing a lot of choir vocals and instruments. Starting with Dream Dream Dream the album cues you into the experience you are about to embark on, instantly setting the mood with almost ethereal vocal sounds that are followed by some truly inspiring lyrics. Hugo (Madeon’s real name) has a true knack for creating heartwarming and bittersweet lyrics, evoking incredible amounts of emotion from the listener. But not all the songs are somber of course, many are celebratory as well, like No Fear No More for instance. My favorite song on this album is Mania but you’ll read more about that one later. If you only want to listen to one of the albums of this list, I’d say go with Good Faith. Even though it didn’t take my top spot I feel that it’s the type of music that absolutely anyone can get into. Hi This Is Flume has many tracks that are more experimental in nature and isn’t for everyone, but Good Faith sets itself apart in a way that anyone can vibe with.
Ascend - Illenium
I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this one tbh. Some Illenium songs just don’t do anything for me in all honesty, and his last album I didn’t think was very good other than a few singles. This one was way different though. It really took me by surprise, and while there are a few songs I don’t think are good, the vast majority if the album was fantastic. My favorites being That’s Why, Gorgeous, and Lonely. But the songs on this album that aren’t good are very much songs I don’t care to listen to again, which is why I decided against it for LP of the Year. Compared to the cohesive narrative in Hi This Is Flume this album just lacks some substance. There’s a lot of fantastic music throughout Ascend but, with exception of a few songs, it doesn’t feel like each of these songs is necessarily integral to the experience, they just happened to all be put in the same album. It also doesn’t help that there were like 5 singles.
Wild Youth - Dabin
Speaking of albums with too many singles. This album is on the list not because I thought it was good, but actually because this was the most disappointing album of the year. It’s 10 songs total, but there were 4 singles released and 2 of the songs were previously released in an EP in 2018. I’m just gonna come out and say this, if you release a majority of your album before the album comes out, then it isn’t an album it’s a collection of singles. There were some great songs on the album including my favorite Dabin song Lights as well as some other wonderful songs like Another Day and Youth. But again, the issue with this album is not the music itself, it’s the way the songs involve interact with each other. And simply put, they don’t. You can’t release 6 of 10 songs on your album and make something cohesive. I really enjoy listening to several of these songs by themselves but they’re just singles to me.
High Highs to Low Lows - Lolo Zouai
Best pop album of the year for sure, although Kim Petras gives it a very good run for its money. The lyricism by Lolo is amazing in this album. It’s so punny and has fantastic flow. Even the album’s title is a pun, how can you not like it. There’s so many good songs like Caffeine, Moi, and Out the Bottle. Anyone that enjoys pop music and RnB should love this album.
Clarity - Kim Petras
The other pop album this year that blew me away. This is quintessential pop music for 2019, with a lot of clear dance music inspiration from songs like Icy and Got My Number. Also, while you don’t necessarily have to like her music because of this, Kim Petras is trans and I have an incredible amount of respect for her to make it in the industry. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for her to get to where she is now with the way many higher ups in the music industry are.
Good At Falling - The Japanese House
This album is just really cute. The vocalist has a wonderful voice and the lyrics flow very well. There’s a lot of great songs, including my personal favorite Worms. If you like indie music give this one a listen for sure.
Fubar - Tsuruda
These tracks are insane, best bass music album of the year hands down. Please listen.
III - Banks
When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? - Billie Eilish
Renegades of Light - LSDREAM
We Are Dust - Xilent
EP of the Year
Dawn - SG Lewis
There were also some great EPs this year, with this one at the top in my opinion. Every single song on this EP is absolutely incredible. SG Lewis shows his attention to detail with every piece of production, starting with Blue, which captures the listeners attention from the second the bass comes in. Emotions flow like water throughout the album, morphing from song to song seamlessly. SG has a very unique sound to him, it’s vibey and both uptempo but somber at the same time. But more than just his production make this EP incredible, the vocals are all impeccable. With vocal performances from SG Lewis himself as well as Clairo and Honne, 5 of the 6 songs on this EP have a vocal, and each one stands out just as much as the last. The type of energy within this EP is so unique, the only way I can describe it is infectious.
Dawn had a lot of competition this year including the following stand out EPs:
Tangential Zones - G Jones
It’s not even remotely a secret that I am an enormous G Jones fan. But part of the reason for that is that all of his music is so damn good. This EP consists of a bunch of tracks he’s been playing in his live show for the last year, I’ve had to privilege of hearing some of these live previously and I thought they were good then but the studio versions of those tracks are even more incredible. Gregg is so good at making simple ideas fill an entire song, and he does it with such mastery. He’s truly one of the best producers of our time and he compliments it with incredible vision for everything he does.
Turn Off The Lights - Dog Blood
Skrillex and Boys Noize are back with some more techno inspired bangers. All 4 songs on this EP are insane, and so are the features, from Otira to X&G. To me, the songs Break Law and Kokoe stand out the most, but there isn’t a song on here that I dislike.
Acid 444 - i_o
This year I got into techno really hard. There were some stand out projects of course, Acid 444 being the most recent one to hit the spot. Replicate didn’t make my top 10 list but only by a very small amount. And System Error evokes some great vibes. These songs really inspired me and I actually started working on a Bladerunner styled techno song as a result.
Dead Sea EP - Eliminate
I always think I’m not going to like the stuff Eliminate releases very much and I don’t know why. But every single time I do that he releases something that just destroys me. Not going to be making that mistake again. There’s some interesting musical elements in these songs, such as the dissonance in Stupid. There’s another particular track on this EP that I really like but you’ll read more about that one later.
Night is Short - Otira
It was a huge year for Otira / Raito. Between his 2 projects he released like 6 EPs and had features on tracks by i_o, Dog Blood, and more. But this EP of his stood out to me the most with some great rave and techno tracks. But to me the thing about this EP that stands out to me the most is the album art. It’s very easily my favorite album art for the entire year. It just draws me in so much, I can’t fully describe why but I’m in love with it.
Save Yourself EP - Virtual Riot
The best producer in dubstep is back with 8 more bangers. I never tire of listening to Virtual Riot, he just kills it every time.
Experiments in Acid Research - Glacci
Change & Decay - Blanke
Divide - Shadient
Songs of the Year
And now for my favorite songs of the year
1. Mania - Madeon
This was the song off of Good Faith that grabbed me the most. It mixes his Adventure era electrohouse sound with the Good Faith style in an absolutely incredible way. However this song was initially a little further down the list. Once I saw Good Faith Live I had to move it up, seeing this song live was such an insane experience. Madeon played an extended version of this song with some modified instrumentation and it was easily my favorite part of the show. The experience of seeing Mania live pushed it up my list to the top spot. Hugo did a wonderful job on this track and I’m so happy to be able to listen to it.
2. Dark Artifact - G Jones
Ethereal arpeggiated synth melodies and high energy trap drums with a lot of bass. What’s there not to like?
3. Caffeine - Lolo Zouai
My favorite pop song of the year. The use of foley in this song is insane. All the drums are laced with recorded sounds of soda bottles and cans being opened and I just love it. So unique, and the lyrics are so well crafted. I almost lost it the first time I realized “French Vanilla dripping in your cup” was a pun I almost lost it because there’s so much depth involved in that line it’s wild. In addition to all of these really unique elements the song is also a bop.
4. Everything - Eliminate
My favorite song off of this EP. This song is so catchy, but more than anything its drum and bass!!!!! It makes me so happy that dnb is catching on in the US. The genre is so explosive and there’s a ton of good stuff out there. I really like Eliminates take on the genre with this song, giving it an almost pop-like vibe while still making it a banger.
5. Lazer Vision - Zeke Beats, The Glitch Mob
From a technical standpoint this song is crazy. The mixing in the track stands out a lot to me, especially with the percussion. It’s also just a cool song. I’m really glad that The Glitch Mob is doing collabs with newer up and coming artists and I hope we get more songs of this quality from the project.
6. Icy - Kim Petras
This song is so catchy, it gets stuck in my head all the time. I love how the production is like bass house turned pop music, super cool style I wouldn’t have expected but I really love. And those hi hat trills, damn. She snapped.
7. Dream Fatigue - G Jones
Another G Jones track on this list but this song is just so cool. Sampling the pacman dying sound and making a trap song is such an amazing idea. And who else but Gregg to pull it off so perfectly.
8. Abberate - Shadient
What the fuck is synth design? This song makes me question my entire life because I never imagined that something could just... sound like that. I don’t know how to describe it but listening to this song for the first time had me so lost. The second drop is full of so many unique synths. I still can’t get over it. Shadient is one of the best bass music producers for sure, can’t wait for that album he’s been talking about next year. And he needs to release that song with the silent hills vibe.
9. Night Is Short - Otira
I already talked about this one a little but hard rave music never felt so good. My friend always says “this song is what people who don’t listen to dance music thinks it sounds like” and he couldn’t be more correct. Song is crazy, when the lead synth goes up an octave and the hi-hat comes in, I go crazy every time.
10. Radial - ISOxo, Knock2
RL Grime’s label Sable Valley is on a roll. With songs like Ambush , House of God, and Arcus and more stuff to come it’s just wild. This song in particular is so much fun. I especially live the dnb breakdown in the second drop. Can’t wait for more from both of these producers and from Sable Valley.
Some other great singles from this year in no particular order:
All the Time - Zara Larsson
Ambush - Cozway, Jon Casey
Overdose - SG Lewis
Drowning - Kucka
Midnight Hour - Skrillex, Boys Noize
Mumbai Power - Skrillex
Moi - Lolo Zouai
Rushing Back - Flume, Vera Blue
Me ++ You - Myrne
Let Me Take You - Whethan, Jeremih
Love Me - Felix Cartal, Lights
Ultramarine - Quiet Bison
Get Through - Rameses B
Soundboy Burnin’ - Otira
Death & Desire - Knife Party
