Hi Neil,
I hope this doesn't get buried in the ask box, but if it does, I'll still be glad I sent this, just to know this little lengthy slice of complement and thanks existed in your inbox is enough. I apologize for the length, I am pretty sure the grammar is in tatters...and probably just the general awkwardness in advance.
Frist of all, congratulations for Good Omens Season2, it's a roaring success even here in this...I don't know, bottomless pit? I myself and some others fondly call it the PRC. The show didn't made pass the firewall officially, neither was Prime Video. People still managed to watch it eventually by VPNs, shared accounts and when times are desperate...sorry, piracy. Chinese fans, including myself, using every tool in the shed to try to fool Amazon™ and our goverment, just to watch this on Prime and try to help to manifest S3, is one hell of an experience. This kind of experience is pathetic, ridiculous....and somehow hilarious in a dark, gallows humor way, almost like some bad spy comedy, I just have to share it. Worth all the trouble by the way, the reward at the end of the back channel is...well, some divine comedy to say the very least. All in all, it's a brilliant show and a solid job well-done.
Then some of my personal gratitude. They say good art resonates with your soul, I now know this is just as true as matter and gravity. Since I know Good Omens certainly resonated with mine. I'll redact the typical "depression and anxiety reduced me to a husk, a shadow of my former self" story and get to the result for brevity's sake. I can't write anything meaningful while I know I took joy in writing, I can't finish reading anything longer than a brochure while I know I was such a bookworm in the past. Then I was compelled to get up in the middle of the night, wrote a full 5000 character long analysis after marathoned S2, and then write even more analyses in both Chinese and English. I picked up American Gods because I know I need more Neil Gaiman in my life and then impressed by myself for actually finishes it the second time 5 years later. I didn't know how exactly that happened through one watch of a TV show, but I know I am changed for the better. I grasped life again, and can start living again, somehow. The resonation just keeps on giving.
This is a quiet, gentle and romantic story, it is soothing, accepting, filled to the brim with love and kindness, and it makes me feel safe and accepted and loved in a way I never felt before. I thank you for it, and hope thart I may have the privlige to witness more of this miracle. Thank you Neil, Sir Terry Pratchett and the team for this miraculous book and this miraculous show.
谢谢。(I just had to say thanks with my mother tongue, it feels more earnest this way)
Thank you so much! I'm impressed by everything you and your countryfolk have gone through to watch it as legitimately as you could.

Predictions for Hazbin Hotel S2
I think this next season, we are hopefully going to get some information on what happened to Eve after Eden. I don't know how much I believe in the Lilith is Eve theory, but that would be interesting if true. I just don't see yet how that would fit into the canon of the Hellaverse.
Based off of the new hotel design, it seems that Lucifer is going to be staying at least part of the time at the hotel to help support Charlie. I also like the idea that Lucifer is going to smother Charlie by trying to be too helpful.
I can also see Lucifer bonding with Vaggie over being cast out from Heaven.
Lillith is definitely coming back to Hell, and from what Lute left us with she is probably going to try and convince Lucifer to shut down the hotel. I think if this is the case he wouldn't because there is now actual proof that the hotel can rehabilitate sinners. As much as I would love to see Lucifer, Lillith, and Charlie make up and be a family again, I just don't see how that can happen in this next season with Lillith abandoning them to stay in heaven for 7 years. I do also think Lucifer knows more about why Lillith left and what she has been up to than what has been shown so far.
In heaven, I think Sera and Emily are actually going to be working with Sir Pentious to figure out how rehabilitation works and how souls are chosen to be sent to heaven. While they investigate, there will likely be a pause on the exterminations.
I like the theory that Emily is going to be cast out like Lucifer and Vaggie, but I don't see this happening. I think it makes the most sense narratively that Charlie has an equal rooting for her in heaven and Emily fits this mold. I think if she were to be cast out, it would be due to Lute rather than the other angels.
I think Lute is going to be planning ways to sabotage the hotel and keep the exterminations happening. Low key, I can also see her starting a rebellion and trying to start a war with hell if this doesn't work.
I think Adam is going to come back as a sinner in hell. I would love to see his dynamic change with everyone at the hotel, especially with Charlie and Alastor.
I have a strong feeling that Alastor did not completely heal after the battle. I think he will be very weak at the beginning of this next season. However, I suspect that by the end of S2 he will be a big bad. I think Alastor can be redeemed, but I think he is going to get a lot worse before he starts getting better.
I'm really excited to see what the V's are going to do after the finale. Part of me thinks they may try to gain more power from Alastor since he is weaker. I also think that Vox and Alastor are going to have their own battle similar to what Vox and Valentino talked about at the start of S1.
I'm really curious as to what the history behind Vox and Alastor is. I think they have a really fun nemesis relationship, that I want to see more of.
I think Angel Dust is going to be the next to be redeemed. He seems to have really changed from the start of the show, and I can definitely see him sacrificing himself for the group.
It seems pretty clear that Huskerdust is going to be a canon ship and I hope to see more of this pairing in the next season.
While I hate Valentino's actions, I do think he is a good character and I hope to see Angel stick up for himself and find a way to break out of his deal.
I think that is all I have for now. I know that there are a ton of side characters that were not introduced in S1 or only had small cameos (ex. Molly), but I don't know if the writers have any plans to add these characters in yet. I'm really excited for more Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel content, and I can't wait until S2 is out so I can compare what I think is going to happen.

What do you reckon c!Quackity’s life is like after the canon end of dsmp? How do you envision it? What’s he up to
// dsmp rp
If you mean his life in s2, I think it's simple. Peaceful. Deep down, I think Quackity's always wanted a peaceful life, he just often decides to wade through a river of chaos to find it. He meets up with the others straight away; he's a likeable guy, he's quick to make friends. They set up camp and he builds himself a shit little shack by the sea because he loves to swim, to feel the cold water on his face and know that he's alive, he's here, whatever happened in the past that he can't remember isn't worth remembering.
He winds up spending a lot of time with Tommy, messing around and getting on everyone's nerves, but no one really cares. It's not serious. There are often sparring sessions that the camp gathers around to watch, after some people learned they mysteriously possess advanced combat abilities. Quackity is easily the worst. He gets knocked on his ass more times than he'd admit, which gets frustrating fast, but he keeps sparring anyway.
Eventually, he decides to take life more seriously. He settles down and opens the camp's first business: a restaurant, with cramped tables and a leaky roof and some damn good seafood. Soon after, everyone he knows is demanding his help to start their own businesses. He thinks he should probably start charging for his services, but he never does. People talk to Quackity about feeling incomplete, somehow; as if whatever came before this took a part of their soul with it. Quackity doesn't know what they mean. He can honestly say that he's never felt more whole.
If you mean his life if there were no nukes or server reset, I think he puts one foot in front of the other. He rebuilds Las Nevadas and he rebuilds his slime army because that's all he has, because going back now is as good as dying. He's done with wasting his time hunting Dream, Techno, Purpled, but he has extra defenses built in case they come back. (And he knows they will come back.) For now, Foolish is named as his successor. For now, they're friends. It's a weird thing, this relationship: Quackity doesn't know how real it is, but at a certain point, it stops mattering. He'll take fake kindness over none. Later, Sapnap seeks him out after the letter he sent him. They talk about it over a glass of wine or ten in the ruins of the casino. They want to rebuild what they had; they'll work it out with Karl, just give it time. They can afford to wait.

so i know we just have to accept certain retcons, but the big one that bugs me is yellow eyes's plan for sam and how it doesn't fit with all the vessel stuff. how do YOU make that work in your head?
hallo hallo anon, you have hit on one of the Great Big Bugaboos of spn canon and also the #1 evidence we have to throw in the face all those goofs who uncritically repeat the "Kripke had a 5 year plan!" factoid. He clearly did not, he was flying by the seat of his pants, and while he managed to put stuff together in a fun way the pants are Not Coherent.
Nevertheless, we can make it work, and the way we make it work is that the various members of the angelic and especially demonic hierarchies do not have complete information. Let's do a rough timeline:
In the beginning Chuck created the universe. This is widely regarded as a bad move.
Then, you know, handwaving on him setting up some version of a 'destiny' story arc which will inevitably end in his two sons fighting to the death, via characters he'll create called The Winchesters.
After inventing demons and being a real jerkface, Lucifer ends up in the cage.
In the 70s or whatever, Azazel goes to Ilchester to butcher a bunch of nuns and talk to daddy Lucifer -- Lucifer says "you have to help get Lilith out of her pit so that the seals on my cage can get broken." Azazel says, "But how, Evil Daddy?" Lucifer says, "This really special child." -- HERE IS WHERE THE RETCON APPEARS TO HAVE HAPPENED, BUT WE CAN WORK WITH IT
Sam Winchester is fated in the demonic archives among the true higher-ups, but lower-level demons don't necessarily know about him and his importance.
Azazel starts seeding the earth with special babies. COMPLETE CONJECTURE TO FOLLOW: While he knows that Sam is the one who will be Lucifer's vessel, he also knows that a series of events will need to occur so that Lucifer will get out of the cage to take his vessel in the first place. The first seal is the most important: a righteous man must shed blood in hell. How do we get that to happen? CONJECTURE TWO: I think that Dean must be the Righteous Man because of his place within the tripartite celestial structure: God-Michael-Lucifer mirroring John-Dean-Sam. I do not think that John could have ever actually been the one to 'spill blood' that would allow the first seal to break. (Ethical conjecture three: perhaps it's the weakness itself which has its own kind of righteousness? John's implacable; Dean is not.) CONJECTURE UHH FOUR I GUESS: Azazel is designing an elaborate scheme to ensure that Sam will die on a particular day (maybe bc it works well for opening the door to hell?) specifically to ensure that Dean will sell his soul to bring Sam back, and thereby doom himself to the hell where he will break the first seal.
This should be 6b but tumblr doesn't work this way: now, would it be a hell of a fucking lot easier for Azazel to just ensure Sam dies somehow? Yeah. But given everything we know about him and the dorky-ass demons who hang out in s1 and s2, Azazel is clearly a dramallama and does stuff for the lulz. Plus, I think there's an element of 'proving' to Sam how much destiny has a hold on him, because that is so important for his grooming into saying yes to Lucifer. If he was just hit by a car or something it doesn't have the same effect than if he's part of the emo hunger games.
Sam dies; Dean sells his soul; Sam lives, and wants to save Dean. But of course, he can't save Dean, because Dean *must* go to hell to ensure the first seal is broken. This is why the angels don't help Sam at all, and why Ruby is allowed to run around with impunity. Happily the writer's strike intervened and gave us a miserable fucking s3 finale where that happened, because that is WAY more interesting than Hero Sammy Saving The Day.
Ruby has been getting instructions from Lilith the entire time, presumably since she became a demon herself, and gets launched literally as soon as Azazel is out of the way to continue the Sam-grooming.
CONJECTURE FIVE(?): Azazel and Lilith fucking hated each other, lol. But it's Lilith who's the *actually* important demon, so she wins and Azazel gets sacrificed for being really bad at teaching drama.
It's not actually that complicated, but you do have to take "the special kids were just sacrifices on the altar of let's see what we can get Sam to do" as a given. If Sam had actually started killing all of them, that'd be one thing, and Azazel could have turned that to his favor before maybe having Ava stab Sam in the back regardless. (Then, a Special Kid will go and open the devil's gate for him anyway, so the demons can get out there and start their important seal-breaking prep.) Since Sam was being such a Good Guy -- well, so what, Ava will kill all the rest of them, and then either her or Jake will get turned easy-peasy and kill Sam too. Dean will make his deal either way, and the apocalypse is off with a bang. Or a sick crunching of knife into bone.
Anyway, that's my theory. It fits alongside my ironclad theory that all of history and fate and destiny was leading toward two brothers standing in front of each other in a cemetery, and the only real free will starting once Dean could choose what to do when Sam-as-Lucifer stood in front of him, and what he chose was to be there for his brother. Thereby giving Sam a solid space to grasp and overcome Lucifer, and then save all the days. The Righteous Man who begins it is the only one who can end it, as they say.

Unnamed GN! MC × Mammon
Fake Fic Title Meme - In which I got sent titles and wrote an extremely detailed summary of the fic I would have written for said title:
Leave a comment?🥺 because they mean the world to me and feed a starving soul🐸
So the last anime episode of S2? Where they're all playing baseball Lucifer, Diavolo, Barbatos, Simeon, Solomon & Luke against Satan, Belphie, Beel, Levi, Asmo & Mammon? Satan was the only one playing seriously from his team with the others all doing there own thing, Mammon actually played well but only when Satan promised to pay him for each time he actively engaged in the game
You know how canonically Mammon is really good at math and able to solve math problems in his head while MC sucks ass at even basic math? & how he's good at making mechanical things/machines to the point that he finds the whole process of it fun meaning he's gotta know & be good at physics too?
ANYWAY;
MC's the water boy, they get to listen to how happy and content Lucifer is about how the day is going and how everyone is enjoying a good, normal family day and nothing catastrophic is happening for once and isn't it terrible that humans coined the phrase "Thank you God" to be used during this kind of miraculous situation but his actual dad is God and they left on bad terms when he rebelled and got kicked out of the house and actually looking back on it yeah he has a fuck ton of Daddy issues what can you expect it's pretty damning after all that his worst fear is his father and all of this is to say he doesn't know who to arbitrarily thank for this day but by Go- oh see here's another one why is his life so hard and then they turn around and listen to Satan maniacally monologue about destroying Lucifer via baseball of all things. So anyway, it's a normal day.
Satan and Mammon are the only ones on their team who are actually playing, though they're still managing to get through just the two of them. Satan is pitching and Mammon catches anything that comes even somewhat towards him, he even goes out of his way to fill in for some of the others and then he immediately extorts Satan because most of Mammon's skill set is behind a paywall. But still it's impressive.
Since Satan's team doesn't really have the needed functioning players and it's just two people they end up taking a lot more breaks than would be normal.
During one of these breaks MC & Mammon are standing under the shade, he's drinking from a bottle of water when they finally ask;
"So how do you do it?"
"Huh??" bored or tired or both.
"How do you," they wave their hand about, "catch the ball every single time?"
He watches them with a tilted head and a cocked eyebrow before shrugging his shoulders and looking away again. "I'm fast."
"Yeah no. It looks like you know where the ball's going to be before Lucifer even hits it..."
He doesn't reply. He's studiously staring at a bird on a tree, tipping the bottle to his mouth, hand clenching around it so hard it crackles.
They look at the tree and the bird and then back at him, again and again as something dawns on their face - until it's transforming from bored curiosity to something of pure manic delight. "WHAT!? What is it!? Is it embarrassing!? It's embarrassing isn't it!"
"No! Shuddup! Fuck off! It ain't embarrassing you-"
"Then why don't you say! What's with that face Mammon!? C'mon tell me! I'm your best-"
They're leaning into him, poking at his cheek while he struggles to push them away, their voices overlap until their words are barely discernible.
They're still poking at his cheek and making their demands and he's choking out complaints and trying to bat them away, and they're both leaning so hard to the right they're in danger of over balancing when he finally croaks out;
"It's math!"
"What" they say as they take a step back, their entire body freezes and their face falls instantly into a blank expression.
"It's math and a little physics too, maybe," Mammon says to the tree again because he's not looking at them and his ears are turning red as he goes on to explain things like wind speed and gravity and different forces acting on the ball, the strength behind Lucifer's hit and the angle he hit it at, making it easy to calculate when and where the ball will land. And because when Mammon starts spilling his secrets he never can seem to stop, he goes on to talk about Satan's reaction time and running speed vs Lucifer's and how once Mammon has the ball he can keep negotiating with Satan to drive up the price Satan is willing to pay for it but how he knows the exact second to stop trying to raise the price because if he pushes for too long and they lose Satan won't be willing to actually pay and he'll lose his trust in Mammon's usefulness during the game. So he needs to calculate the time he has so that he can create a sense of urgency in Satan making him increase the price by leaps and bounds but also allows them to win.
After Mammon finishes he's still facing away and he waits and waits and waits but doesn't get any reply so he whips around ready to snap at them for pushing for an answer and then giving him the silent treatment but he pauses when he finally catches sight of them.
They're standing straight but still like this ->🧍facing him, eyes wide, pupils dilated, face striken and paled - ashen even - he isn't even sure if they're breathing.
"O-oi," he snaps, voice quavering, he rushes towards them and gives them a hard shake by their shoulders "IF I THOUGHT THAT'D FRY YA DUMB BRAIN I WOULDN'T 'VE SAID SHIT YA FUCKIN' IDIOT!" he's shaking them rapidly and they're flopping around like a fucking limp ass noodle and he's not 100% sure whether he's hallucinating the steam coming off their head or not and holy F U C K he killed his best friend, the love of his life, etc etc just 'cos he forgot they didn't have two braincells to rub together, specially when it came to numbers and fuck fuck fuck-
Cut to 15min later - they're sitting on the sidelines sheepishly listening to Lucifer who's looming over them and giving them a very stern yet concerned lecture about overheating and heatstroke and human bodies and how much hell he's going to give them when they return home and he gets them to scrub the whole house down with a toothbrush for managing to cut his life span down by centuries in just a few seconds.
Mammon is standing near them, forehead pressed to the wall, all but dead to the world as he drowns in horrified guilt even as Satan tries to convince him that no humans can't die from being too stupid to comprehend math, he's almost 70% - well maybe 60.....50% sure.. actually wait let him check this - it's not really bringing Mammon any comfort
They rub at the back of their neck and try to weakly apologise but Lucifer's lecture is drowning them out and as they do they catch Asmo staring intensely at them from a few feet away. Their hands drops off their neck as their arm flops down and a look of horror passes through their eyes when they make and hold direct eye contact with Asmo, whose own face is impassive yet still managing to convey something that can be categorised as "mockingly amused" that says plain & simple 'I know what you are'
Because of course being the personification of Lust he felt the exact moment, 15 minutes ago, when there'd being a sudden intense spike of lust just as all their blood instantly rushed south
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
If you want more fake fics like this under a variety of AUs (human, different first meeting, mer, witch & familiar etc) check out the whole compilation on AO3 here

Okay so imagine S2 the Flash where Eddie didn't die so he and Iris are engaged and planning their wedding. Barry of course has a +1 for whenever the wedding is and here comes Patty who is clearly interested in him. So Iris is not so subtly pushing Barry in that direction and so is Cisco, leading to that scene at Jitters where Cisco's all 'see how easy it is to ask out someone you like' and then much deservedly crashes and burns for asking out a food service worker at her place of employment. (Sorry, Cisco, love him but asking out Kendra while she was at work was totally inappropriate.)
And Barry is just relieved that Cisco didn't get the date. Because Patty is nice and all, but she's not Cisco and Barry's started to realize that he's kinda head over heels for Cisco.
Except then Cisco does get the date with Kendra after all, so Barry makes his 'why breakfast?' joke (so many ace vibes there, I swear) but it's a bit more stilted than in canon and Barry heads off to be alone afterwards where he asks himself how he manages to get into these situations where he's interested in someone who isn't interested in him back.
Things with Kendra go as per canon, Cisco ditched for my least favorite version of bird-boy (give me the tortured soul who depends on Blockbuster for his pandemic social interactions, mmkay? I like him, he needs hugs but isn't condescending or controlling) and maybe feeling a bit upset about the whole thing. And perhaps a bit more invested in Barry/Patty happening because at least someone in their friend group deserves a successful romance and Caitlin is still grieving Ronnie (again). So it's gotta be Barry.
So Barry has his first date with Patty and it goes okay but he's just not... feeling that spark. And he doesn't want a repeat of Linda so he ends the date by admitting he'd just rather be friends. Patty takes this stoically, Cisco on the comms is like "Dude???" (because remember, Barry started the date blind with Cisco guiding him and his sight was restored by the adrenaline rush of Patty kissing him which here would just upset him over being kissed unexpectedly, contributing to the panicked 'no further dates please' reaction)
Barry avoids like a pro because he didn't spend 15 years avoiding telling Iris how he felt to start being chatty about his feelings to his crush now, but after the fake fight with E1 Linda fails, Cisco finally corners Barry and pushes the right buttons to get a confession that Barry didn't actually ask out the person he likes when he asked Patty on a date. He asked Patty because Cisco made it clear he wasn't interested in Barry when he asked out Kendra.
The mental gymnastics Barry's RSD goes through sometimes bewilders Cisco, but he does see how this one happened. Of course Cisco's still in 'did I hear correctly' and 'brain rebooting' mode when Zoom takes Linda hostage. So the last thing Barry says to Cisco before running off to save his ex is something along the lines of "the person I like most is you".
Cisco proceeds to spend the rest of the night in a low key panic over what he's going to say to Barry when he wakes up because does he acknowledge it now or later? Does he put it aside until Barry's recovered enough to be in a good headspace for relationship discussions and date planning?
Being Cisco, what happens is he rambles himself into a corner and Barry demands cuddles once he processes that yes, actually, Cisco does want to date Barry too.

To celebrate trickster Tuesday! I am going to ramble about Mystery Spot, the episode ever. Don't take any of this super seriously I am by no means a "meta analysis" this is just me foaming at the mouth. + the spiral of thoughts it sent me on.
Anyways. If you wanna read it! It's below the cut! Because it got (long).
First off, Mystery Spot represents the literal cycle Sam (and also the entire Winchester family) find themselves caught in, over and over and over again: due to their inherent savior & martyr complexes. Which are not a great blend. Imagine having to save everyone you care about, but, always being willing to simply - die for them. More than willing. Happy to. Feel like you have to, in order to be worth anything to anyone or them. In order to atone.
Now, we saw in S1-S2 how much Dean is willing to give up for family, for Sam. It's the entire reason S3 is happening - he sold his own soul to a demon, something he hated John for, to save Sam. To bring him back to life. Something we learn that his own mother did all those years ago: just not at the price of her soul, but, essentially - her first born child (so Rumplstilskin of Azazel for real). The Winchester need to save each other, that toxic codependency on family, that "family is all you got at the end of the day" mentality is what started it all.
We have only seen in S1-S2 breif glimpses that Sam also shows these signs. The same codependency as Dean, and that savior complex. However - it never becomes truly and completely apparent until S3. Where he is willing to steal human livers, find anyway - anything to save Dean from his deal. It isn't until Jessica, John and everyone else he has known is gone, that Sam begins to fall completely into the codependency that Dean unfortunately, feeds into. (With all of his "You ran away from the family" talk and such)
In Mystery Spot: we see the first true depths of how far Sam is willing to go to keep Dean alive. How far he has fallen from that rebelliousness he had before John died. Starting to agree with Dean that he "tried his best". And things like that. In Mystery Spot we see that Sam rather relive the same day over and over and over again, than let Dean die. We never see him accept it. Not once. Sure, it's a time-loop, but we know Gabriel was trying to teach Sam to let go.
Teach him to break the fucking cycle. But he doesn't. He contuines to give into it, over and over. Until Gabriel reveals himself, thinking maybe he can still change it. Change Sam. Get through to him. That'd when we get those 6 months of pure obessesion.
And at the end of it? We see the Sam that suggested to Dean they use the evil-immortal doctors alchemy to keep him alive, perfectly willing to steal human livers and such for it: come out full force. He is completely willing to sacrifice a stranger to save Dean. Rather than being hellhent on killing the Trickster, on revenge, he wants him back. At any cost. Even an innocent human life.
This is the Sam we see, after years and years of Dean encouraging this behavior - seasons later, bring an entire apyclopse down on the world to get rid of the Mark of Cain. Force a man to sell his soul. Have Rowena kill the inky person she had ever allowed herself to love - someone she considered her son. To utterly get rid of another person's autonomy (keeping her locked up ect.) to get it.
Note: it is NOT Dean's fault, that Sam broke Amara out, I simply am stating that his "we die for family sammy" and "we do everything for family sammy" throughout the years helped Sam make the decision. But at the end of the day, Sam choose to get rid of the Mark. All of the death that happened because of her is pretty directly on his hands, and he knows this.
I also believe that, while Sam feels massive amounts of sympathy, I believe he struggles a (lot) with empathy (autism + protecting himself/trauma response). He can easily replicate empathy, and act as if he cares but we see his hypocritical behavior consistently come into play and make us think: huh. I don't think he actually understands how Dean, Castiel ect. feels. That is why he comes off as spoiled and ungrateful to Dean in early seasons, and in later seasons does things that are completely amoral and deranged. Simply for those he loves.
Because he struggles to wrap his head around *why* Dean can save him, kill people for him, force an angel on him - but when he releases an apyclopse, him saying "I would do it all again." Is somehow wrong. He doesn't see his own hypocrisy at times and struggles especially to see others.
Anyways.
I support Sammy war crimes.

hi andi ok so I was having hadestown byler thoughts again and first of all. whenever I imagined the "death" I figured it would either be an actual death or it would just be will going to the upsidedown bc obviously mike doing everything in his power to get will back from the upsidedown mirrors the orpheus and eurydice thing. but then uh thought about that smoosnoom post with the eurydice quote and the fact that it's put over pictures of possessed will, when he's losing himself and his memories, WHICH IS ANALAGOUS TO HOW DEAD SOULS IN GREEK MYTH SWIM IN THE RIVER LETHE AND LOSE THEIR MEMORIES. so now, is eurydice will dead? in the upsidedown? possessed again? all of the above? idk but the potential just gets cooler the longer I think about it and I had to let you know. anyway slightly different topic but still hadestown byler though, idk what would happen with hades and persephone plotline aksjddkfk. like I generally say "orpheus and eurydice byler" instead of "hadestown byler" unless I'm trying to be quick about it bc hadestown has a very specific interpretation of the characters that I feel doesn't always map perfectly onto byler (for example. personality types don't line up) and I'm more interested in a byler version of the myth itself inspired from any or all iterations of it and not just specifically a hadestown au. but even if you take out the hadestown interpretation of hades and persephone I still don't really know what you do with that. bc the obvious answer for hades here would be henry except a. who is the persephone?? and b. henry doesn't seem like a very sympathetic person anymore, if he ever was, and a big part of the story is that hades sympathizes with the young lovers. like yeah the myth says it's persephone who feels sorry for them and convinces her husband, but a. that still means he's got some modicum of empathy and shit, and b. hades himself is only unwilling to let them leave bc it sets a precedent for letting everyone else leave. not bc he just wants to keep eurydice around. which again is definitely different from henry. so yeah idk what to do there. I'm sorry I just realized how long this ask is I am very long winded
alright rori, let's do this. setting a timer of 45 minutes for myself because like always, i have way too much to say but also i gotta prep a fic to get posted tomorrow LOL.
okay, so like i think i mentioned answering one or two of your other asks, i saw this a couple days ago and didn't have the energy to answer it yet, but i have been thinking about how i'd answer it. and now i know how i'm gonna answer it lol.
first, i'll say, i think your point of this is that there's a difference between solely orpheus/eurydice byler and then hadestown byler because obviously hadestown is more niche and interprets the myth slightly differently. so i'll talk about orpheus/eurydice byler first, then i'll talk about my thoughts on hadestown byler.
my thing is: byler is just orpheus/eurydice coded in general, as we all well know. and i think the more i thought about this, the more i realized that the show itself (at least the byler part of it) can be viewed as its own retelling an interpretation of the orpheus/eurydice myth, just (hopefully) without the tragic ending.
i mean it's right there in front of us in s1, right? we see eurydice/will being taken into this story's version of the underworld—the upside down. then orpheus/mike spends the entire first season trying to get him back. it's missing that obvious point of the "hey, don't turn around when he follows you out, because you'll lose him" but i'll come back to that in a second.
then, in s2, yes! i love what you're saying about how in greek myths, the river lethe leads the deceased person to lose their memories. so that really then is like will's possession, and so, wow. we again are put into this instance where our orpheus has to go after his eurydice and get him back. mike reminds will of who he is and of the love they share between each other.
but still, we're missing the deal orpheus strikes with hades, and its tragic end. except... maybe we're not?
because in both s1 and s2, we see that the way stranger things has its orpheus make it the underworld to save its eurydice is through a new character—through el. in both seasons, it's that friendship mike forges with el that in the end leads to will's rescue. this is more of a stretch than the way byler fits into their orpheus/eurydice roles, but in a way, mike's relationship with el kind of represents that journey out of the underworld and the tragedy the myth ends with.
mike "saves" will in a sense, but also... he loses will too. the key in orpheus and eurydice's demise is the doubt orpheus begins to feel, right? he wonders if he's been tricked, and he makes the fatal mistake of looking behind him, dooming eurydice to her demise and ending the story in a tragedy.
this, in a more metaphorical sense, could be compared to how in s3/s4 we begin to see mike's own self doubt, the decline in his mental health, how he shuts down, and hides behind his relationship with el. mike's looking behind him—his mistake that causes him to lose will—is something he says himself in s4: that he was worrying too much about el and lost will in the process. so, like in the original myth of orpheus and eurydice, it's the very movement and action that are meant to save eurydice that doom the two lovers. with mike and will, it's the very person who saved will and brought him back to mike twice who ultimately then comes in between them.
(btw, it's not el's fault, obvs. she's not really included in this metaphor/comparison because she doesn't really fit into the myth in a sense, but you know i love my girl and this whole mess isn't her fault either lol. there's probably something there that could be talked about with how el represents the "path out of the underworld" that st's hades aka vecna/henry/one offers to our orpheus. something that would dive more into the messy history of el and henry and the mentoring role he sort of played in her life until they broke off and like. nearly killed each other. but again, that's just an aside.)
anyways, where we then converge from the orpheus/eurydice myth is that when orpheus loses eurydice, he can never get the chance to get her back again. the story ends, and eurydice is dead. orpheus is alone. but as we all see at the end of s4, we see our orpheus and eurydice get a second chance. maybe mike did feel like he lost will because of his relationship with el. he did "turn around" in a sense. but by the ending scene in the cabin, i believe mike knows his priorities again. he makes that promise to will that they'll figure out how to defeat vecna together. they'll stop him together. so if this can be read as an orpheus/eurydice retelling, the ending will be different for them. :)
okay, now on to my hadestown thoughts!
these are all just my personal thoughts about how i might go about writing a hadestown byler fic, because i think for it to be an au of sorts, i'd want to have it set in that little world hadestown has built. as i just rambled about above, i think st's canon can almost be read as an orpheus/eurydice retelling itself, so if i wanted to write about it and dig deeper into the myth, this is the interpretation i personally would go with because i just love hadestown lol.
i mean, you know me and how i write rori, so i'd end up pulling bits and pieces i like from the material and then tweaking as i go. so if i ever wrote this, it would be hadestown (kind of), stranger things (kind of), and orpheus/eurydice (kind of) lol. first off, i like the hadestown setting. i like the concept of it not quite being a death, i like the way it frames a world that is struggling because of others' greed, and i like that within it, there's also a political statement showing how there's power in people standing up against oppressors.
we know that the demeanors of the orpheus/eurydice in hadestown don't line up to mike and will's characters. but what i like about hadestown is that eurydice gets a lot more agency in the story here. she makes that decision to go to hadestown, and unfortunately, it's made in desperation and also fear. but then, when we meet them again in the second act, we see that eurydice is also the primary encourager to orpheus. that they can make it out of here. that she believes in him to show her the way out. that they'll do this together, and that they will lead others with them.
so imagining with mike and will, for me, it'd end up being some sort of cross between their st backstories and the hadestown backstories (so maybe they grow up as childhood friends still, but then they fall in love with each other). established byler my beloved <3 we see mike get stuck in his head and hyper-focused, as he is prone to do, and we see this impact their relationship during hard times in the winter. it makes sense with their canon socioeconomic backgrounds, right? will is more focused on what's in front of them. they have to eat. they have to survive. he doesn't necessarily come from privilege, where mike more so does. so maybe that's a point of contention between the two, and that drives will to make the decision to go to hadestown.
mike, of course, isn't going to leave him down there, so as we'd expect, he goes after will. he goes the long way to hadestown, and he's determined to save will, to bring him back, to do better, to not lose will. because at the end of it all, even with all their flaws and the struggles in their relationship, mike and will love each other. i think el would probably be the hermes in this scenario—the one who helps him gets there but in this story, instead of el being able to help mike save will, she can't. maybe her powers are limited. maybe, if she is more like hermes, she can't necessarily make a decision that impacts another god's domain.
which brings me to your other question about hades. you're absolutely right that hades is more of a sympathetic character, and though he's the antagonist of the story, he's arguably not a villain? he's just a grumpy capitalist lmfao. personally, i still think the real villains here were the fates, but that's a whole other story.
you could, i suppose, if you wanted to—make hopper and joyce your hades and persephone. hopper in earlier seasons and his grumpy gruffness does give those kind of vibes, and we know he and joyce can and will argue with each other when they're at odds lol. but idk, if i did end up writing the hadestown au, i probably wouldn't go that route, just because i do think henry fits the "villain" character better.
so, uh... i think then, that would mean this eliminates the b plot of hades/persephone, so from my perspective, i imagine this then becomes more a discussion on henry as an oppressor and hadestown and henry representing a system of abuse (in the way the upside down and henry do in the show). like i said earlier, i like thinking the fates, who are manipulating the whole situation, are the true villains here, so i'd probably write it where henry is both hades and the fates. he plays the sympathetic role and manipulates mike in their confrontation, offering a way out for mike and will, but then turns around and is also that voice of doubt coaxing mike to turn around and doom will back to hadestown.
anyways, those are just some of the thoughts i've had, and i'm nowhere near to the point where i have the time to write a hadestown/byler esque kinda au... but if i did, i'm sure i'd have more coherent thoughts and ramblings to share eventually lol!

Pearl could still be a god of many things
I'll be honest, I was in immediate denial the moment Joel brought up the whole farming god thing but the more he kept going it did gave me some ideas. Admittedly. I was very against it because I was too attached to the fanbase's interpretation of Pearl, which can be a problem as far as fandoms are concerned. So of course, this is my take on the most recent lore, which are a bunch of theories and headcanons thrown into the mix.
The Emperors from s1 were once revered as Gods but have now been forgotten
Pretty much the most common interpretation based from Joel's video and comment section. This does bring up some questions however. Like, Why is s1 Joel different from the current one? What's with the whole past life thing? What about Oli? If they all died out then how do you explain Pearl in Oli's video? What the hell was Afterlife smp?
Well, from what I could interpret from this is that after godhood, many of them decided to relive as mortals in the now recovered Empires world. However, before that some of them had to relive different lives over at Afterlife. (Which already puts a hole in this theory with how Pix wasn't in it)
Afterlife, in a sense, was a form of purgatory for them but not a purgatory entirely. It was just a regular domain that had its own weird rules and stipulations. Not every member was there for the same reasons the emperors were.
It was however, still partly ruled by Pearl. (pertaining to Oli's lore and Sausage's afterlife finale) So, why wasn't Pearl with them? It could be that one of them had to be left behind. It could also be that she created the world herself for them to get them used to mortal living. (there is no basis for the last one I just think its neat) Whatever the case, she was referred as a god in two people's lore.
I don't really think that s1 Joel is the same as s2 Joel for obvious reasons, but then that puts the question of where the hell is s1 Joel? Did he went to Afterlife? Is he out there? was he editor!Joel all this time? High likely s2 god!Joel isn't too directly related to the deceased gods but seem to be familiar with them and had some relations with them.
HOWEVER, I would now like to bring up my next issue regarding the recent lore.
Pearl isn't dead, Joel just has bad memory
Not to put Joel as an unreliable narrator but it does put some question to the validity of his claims after he said that he forgot a lot of things in his past. It tends to become my problem sometimes whenever it's used in writing and it makes me very prone to cherry picking facts since we wouldn't directly know what's real and what isn't.
Him saying that the other gods are dead don't really go against my previous statements though. But Pearl being "dead" dead is something slightly difficult for me to believe. Or how he categorize her as just a farming god since based from Pix's statue she had a different role.
It's not a crazy idea to give her different roles since many mythologies and pantheons have that. Take the god Apollo from Hellenism for example, he's the god of music, but also the god of prophecy, healing, and the sun. Saint Pearl here, could be the god of the harvest, sunflowers, the sun, the afterlife, death, battle, the reaper of souls, the ferry woman of death or whatever you'd interpret it.
I wouldn't consider Pearl as actually dead but she's probably forgotten, but not forgotten entirely. As Sausage has referenced, they did had a sunflower goddess back in his previous kingdom. Which he later learned her actual name. As for Oli, it could be debated on how long he's been in the minecraft credits limbo but it wouldn't really tell us much on what happened to Pearl after he left heaven.
So in the end, even with Joel's recent lore it doesn't really tell us that she actually died. She might have been forgotten by other civilizations but that doesn't mean death to a god. And even then, she wasn't entirely forgotten. She is now known in other names and might be venerated differently. Joel has some remembering to do it seems. Kinda like Sausage.
So yeah.
Extra:
On a writing perspective though, I kinda hope there would still be a lot of room for mystery and vagueness so it can keep the world interesting. And often when something was given TOO MUCH answers it tends to ruin the lore. Sometimes being given less of an answer is better. There is that balance of being given too little or too much.
On a another note it is weird and funny on how so much lore is being put on Pearl while she's not actively part of this season.

Jared's Sunday JIB12 Appearance
Jared wasn’t able to be there in person but he was able to check in twice virtually and answer some questions, once on Saturday and then again on Sunday. His audio is still not the best it does cut off for him at some points but he is settled into place and ready to answer some quick questions so let’s jump right into it.
He called in during Ruth Connell's and Adam Rose's panel, and side note Ruth looks so pretty and I am just now realizing that I don't think I'd heard her speak outside of her role she's very soft spoken.
But anyways the first question is: How would he describe the cast as dogs?
He would say Ruth is a Scottish Deerhound but those are very tall. Says she’s very kind, loyal, intelligent, not very large, she’d have to have red fur maybe a vizsla which is athletic, intelligent, kind, and wee meaning small.
Ruth asks how he would describe Adam Rose but he doesn’t hear her so continues on to MC who would be an Australian Shepherd like a little blue heeler because according to Jared he’s hard-working driven and has a little bit of mischief.
Jensen’s loyal, strong, and kind like a lab. He's not as boisterous but he’s down for anything and he can do anything. He’s always up to work hard, he’s a loyal friend, a loyal family member. So he'd be like a lab you can count on him, he’s always gonna be there for you. I love how everybody else gets quick, regular descriptions and then there's Jensen who gets a loving description ❤️
Ruth again asks about Adam Rose but his audio cuts off, and he can’t see him on the stage so Adam has to go to where the camera is 😂
For Adam, he asks if there's a dog that shoots great photography and is very funny, very quick-witted with a great sense of humor. He’s trying to come up with what kind of dog he'd be and Adam says he’d (Adam) be a schnauzer. Jared agrees but not a giant schnauzer a good standard schnauzer with eyes that see straight into your soul unless you’re soulless. x
The next question turns out to be for Ruth. And Ruth is like 'no no you have to ask Jared a question' but Jared's totally cool with it and says he wants to hear a Ruthie answer and poor ruth is like 'oh god.' For the record, the fan does apologize that the question is not for Jared.
[and for anyone who might wonder what the big deal is, they're on a schedule]
I’m already here so for anyone curious the question was if the classiness that she brought to Rowena, like her posture and standing tall, if it's more a part of her or if it was more a play or an act.
It was her, she says she took ballet for too many years and jokes that she has a rod up her ass. Also mentions that her favorite Grimm fairytale character was Thumbelina cause she was the same size. Fun fact, Thumbelina is actually a Hans Christian Andersen character if the name sounds familiar it's because he's the same dude that gave us The Little Mermaid. x
Back to Jared! Any trait in common between Sam Winchester and Cordell Walker?
Before asking the question the fan thanked Jared for checking in virtually and Jared thanked everyone for letting him barge in and crash these panels. To answer the question, he thinks Cordell is more similar to Dean than he is to Sam so he’s really grateful he got to be with the swashbuckling character of Dean Winchester, watching and studying for 15yrs fun little mannerisms and attitudes.
He thinks the biggest similarity between Sam and Cordell is they are both loyal to a fault so that’s something that was able to stay cause he did 15 and a half years as Sam and he kind of shed some of that skin for Cordell but he kept some things and that loyalty is something that stuck around. x
Last question.  Can he give us a hint about what’s going to happen to Cordell in this upcoming season?
He jokingly asks how to translate ball gag into Italian.
He gives a spoiler warning because he doesn't know if fans there have seen the s2 finale, and says that Walker is in a bad situation that we saw him taken away at the end of s2 by some people that we don’t know quite yet who they are but suffice it to say Walker spends some time in an uncomfortable situation. He’d be home if he could but he can’t so we’re gonna see a lot of Walker in compromising scenarios. But no ball gag.
He also mentions an insta story vid that G had posted the other day where he's playing with O after work. He got home, after work, and O was about to go to bed and she wanted to play a little bit, and G took the little video and - in his words! - he guesses she posted it cause he saw it online. So he didn't know she posted that vid, I'mma keep it nice but if you know me you know my thoughts. And in the vid he still has his Walker makeup on so when he saw it he was like 😬 because he's not sure if that was something that could be shown since it does give an indication of what's happening with the character. x
Ruth goes to where the camera is to wave to him and he asks her to wave again so he can take a pic and tweet it, and as he's doing that he makes the interesting comment that he's forgotten how to tweet. Now could he have meant it as in he momentarily forgot how to do it? Sure. But does it sound that way? No. x
Anyways, I'm really glad he was able to check in not once but twice and even if virtually was able to participate in the con 😊
If you wanna check it out, link below is timestamped to when he appears:

i said i would write a post about a stranger things (byler) soul eater au and here i am <3
Tumblr media
(tagging @apatheticlexicographer in case you're still curious about this but feel free to ignore <3)
MIKE & WILL & EL
yeah i recreated the love triangle thing because i couldn't resist, sue me! it just opens a lot of cool scenarios and dynamics and i'm here for it
i am still torn about mike because i can't decide whether i like him better as a weapon or a meister given that both ideas are super cool, but also he's very protective and has terrible coordination (lol) so i would say he's a weapon, and then @vivelegalite said in my other post that he'd be The Sword™ and so i haven't stopped thinking about that since because hello?! it's PERFECT
Tumblr media
so mike is the weapon (a sword) and will is the meister. they're a formidable team because their souls are synced since they were like 7 n they love and understand each other like no one else does
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then they meet el, and will is taken away (the context doesn't matter). el is special, sorta like crona? the hawkins lab did to her what medusa did to crona, so like they experimented on kids and created these weapon/meister hybrids who could turn their own blood into weapons
and like the upside down is this madness-fueled dimension created by vecna, who's like asura and who was used to create the lab kids who are half gods or something, but were all killed after an accident like it happens in canon
so el and mike become a team because maybe el can't wield her own blood at some point because she's too exhausted, and so mike becomes her weapon for a while when they're still looking for will. he feels lost because he can't do anything alone, so fighting with her helps him manage his own feelings of powerlessness
when will comes back, he still can't fight for a while, and el is gone (just like s2, again the context doesn't matter lol), so mike starts training on his own, but of course he's not as strong without a meister who can wield him
anyway in the end el comes back, they get together, and mike starts training with both el and will, but then trouble starts because he can't manage both relationship at the same time for some reason, and it's getting a toll on his synchronization with both of them. so el can feel something is wrong with him, and they break up, and then one time will tries to wield him and he gets burned or something, because they have secrets for the first time in forever and those secrets are making it hard for their souls to connect and resonate
then in the end will pulls an anime!maka and discovers he's also a weapon (yes i love this trope and i use it in every soul eater au i plot lol) and maybe mike has to act as a meister for a little while, i don't have context for this but it sounds cool and also kinda funny lol
i don't know what kind of weapon will would be, maybe a rifle? and mike is like “will are you kidding me you know i can't aim for shit” so then will is like “let me worry about that you just make sure not to drop me” and they SLAY
and then after a bad fight where they almost lost because they couldn't fight properly, mike realizes that he has to come clean, and he confesses to will, and they kiss, and it's all very sweet and they go back to being the best team ever <3
Tumblr media
ok i thin i'll stop here for now but anyway se au's are always super cool and so much fun hehe

Gotg 3 theories! (kinda long post)
because thank you @enigma731 for making a post on the trailer as I didn't even know it was out already
Keep in mind that I have only read a few issues of the comics, and that this is just for fun so it's not like I did a bunch of research.
I have played the newer GOTG game and am in the process of playing the telltale game, and have also watched the animated series a bunch of times, (it's honestly really good.) So I do know of Guardians characters that are not in the MCU yet
Tumblr media
BABY ROCKET IS SO CUTE
2. I'm going to guess that the movie will be focused on Rocket's backstory and possibly the other guardians' as well. Interesting as they definitely haven't been explored much in the MCU.
Tumblr media
Peter somehow acquired a polaroid camera and used it to take a photo of the team? That would be so cute and he actually has a picture of them on his nightstand on the animated show! (S2:E8)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay back to the actual trailer-
Tumblr media
WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM PLEASE JUST TELL ME HE'S OK
2. Rocket's drinking a milkshake or smth so that gives me hope Peter just got knocked unconscious somehow-
3. I don't trust Marvel movies anymore. They "permanently" killed off three different characters I loved-
Tumblr media
Where is that? It looks a bit like Ego's ship? I'm guessing either a celestial building of some kind or the Collecters place (if it has a name I forgot it) Is Peter going to get his celestial powers back? If so, heres hoping he can control them enough that he doesn't become immortal and have to watch the whole team die...
2. Those pink things look a bit like brains of some kind, possibly connected to my celestial ship idea. Maybe they run into another celestial who was related to Ego or something?
Tumblr media
At first, I was thinking astronauts from Earth meet the Guardians or something, but that looks like Mantis? I'm curious why they have the big suits when they had smaller force fields of some kind in previous movies. Maybe a radioactive area of some kind?
Tumblr media
LYLLA!!
Rocket's love interest from the comics, she made minor appearances/and there were references to her in the games and animated series.
Further making me think Vol.3 will be about Rocket's backstory and character. I'm just crossing my fingers that all of the guardians will get a happy ending...
Tumblr media
Adam Warlock!
Another character from the comics, though he was in the games and animated series as well.
He doesn't really look anything like he usually does in my opinion. But then again the rest of the guardians had very drastic appearance changes in the movies also, SO oh well! Not too big of a deal.
What got me thinking is the fact that the golden gem in his head is the soul stone. (Of course, that could be different for the MCU but it's pretty much always the soul stone so it would make more sense)
I'm wondering if he can use his powers to somehow merge the version of Gamora who got killed for the stone and the current version of her from the past. Whether through somehow merging her soul or giving her the memories of her future self I don't really care, now I'm not entirely sure of the comics but in the animated series he got Gamora to let him use his powers to help her remember a memory of her parents (since she couldn't remember exactly what they looked like.) (S2:E21)
2. Were the stones not destroyed? How does he have Soul? Is it something else? But in that case what is it..?
Looking forward to look back on this once it's out and see what (if anything) I got right :)

You know, rewatching supernatural I'm kinda shocked by how often I just find myself going ''Man, I wish Sam had died here -_-''. but not as a sam hate thing. In fact, Sam's my favorite and partially this is just bc I like Sam angst (because I definitely didn't want him to permanently be gone from the show). But Also. Consider.
The first Demon blood detox. When Dean goes ''at least he dies human''. I went 'Yes, let's totally do that.' If Sam had actually died there, can you imagine! Or! Sam doesn't always need to die really. Just: If Dean had been thrown into an alternate universe where Sam didn't leave for Stanford and either the life TM or his own misery with it killed him young(-er)? Or if with the mark Dean'd actually ended up killing Sam? Like, in a bloodlust rage or smth.
Obviously what I really want here, is for the narrative to prove Sam right (in leaving for Stanford and such) and have dean face the consequences of his actions (Detox, Fratricide Mark as an incredibly wobbly solution to the Abbadon problem).
Idk, I just think it's funny how often the narrative (and fans) wants to prove Dean right /Sam wrong. And how often this happens via just ignoring certain things.
(As an example: Bc Sam does go to Stanford, we never get to see the horrible consequences it would have had for his mental and/or physical health if he hadn't. And so fans, dean, the narrative etc. just pretend that there would have been no such consequences at all.)
Like, If you people would please take this to it's logical conclusion of Sam's death/incredible suffering. I'd just like to see what people come up with to justify it then.
It's driven me to such bloodlust. Seeing this universe where to only way to prove yourself right is to die. Like, yea that'll show them. Can't ignore this, can you
The funny thing about this is that Supernatural has such a definitive answer to “death as vindication”, and it’s answer is “lmao no, come on, we’re dragging you back to life just to prove you wrong.”
Like, both with detox and with the Mark of Cain, I’m not actually convinced that Sam For Real Dying would have had too much more of an effect on the moral landscape of the show than the canonical impacts did, simply because there would be some way to drag Sam back, and therefore to shove the cosmic consequences into another ball court.
If there’s a way that Dean’s going to be forced to face the fallout of his harmful choices, I both think it can’t happen over Sam’s dead body and that it shouldn’t happen over Sam’s dead body—because what does that do but make Sam into a prop that Dean can, again, twist into the shape that fits the narrative he sees? When he weeps over the tableau of Sam at the end of s2, and even s5, and most damningly and most especially at the end of s8, it’s for Sam’s sake, but it’s certainly not with Sam’s autonomy in mind.
S8-9 in general is a great example of what I mean: we have Dean’s ill treatment of Sam in s8 contributing to and exacerbating Sam’s suicide mission to take on the Trials, which nearly ends in Sam’s death. Instead of accepting Sam’s death (and his implicit responsibility), Dean comes up with a way to avert it… with a heinous violation of Sam’s mind, body, and soul. Which again nearly leads to Sam’s death. Which again Dean averts with, uh, more possession, and also needles in his brain. (God I fucking love 9.10. And s9 in general.)
But as to your later point, I do really like thinking about the… unhealthier counterfactuals, the ways in which the choices Sam is castigated for were the right ones at the time. Stanford is a great example of one. Amelia’s in that category too. I’d even put Ruby there, in a certain sense. All times when Sam was apart from Dean.

just some random riverdale s5-6 thoughts
disclaimer: you're welcome to disagree but don't be rude about it
okay, so i thought about it because im rewatching riverdale for like the 4th or 5th time and i find seasons 5-6 to be very similar to the first two seasons of riverdale, especially when it comes to internal conflicts the core 4 are facing, their behaviours and even things they say
it's like season 6 mirrors the first two seasons
let's start with jughead! do you remember fp from the beginning? he was a drunk, good-for-nothing father at the beginning of the show. once he went to jail for his role in covering up jason's murder, he gets clean, goes to aa and wants to leave the serpents. he even works at pop's after being released from jail. he only comes back to the serpents to fix jughead's mistakes (the whole penny peabody debacle). and back then, jughead really disliked his father. so in s5-6, we find out that he became everything he hated as a teenager in his dad: a drunk who can't keep up with the world around him. s1-2 jughead desperately wanted to belong (despite his im a weirdo speech), and have a family which throughout seasons 1-5 he found either in the serpents or within the core 4. once he's left alone: his family doesn't seem to be in touch with him (wtf happened to fp? and jellybean?), his friend group fell apart, and the serpents are too far away, he just turns the alcohol. probably because of loneliness. so we have him mirroring his father's arc: he first has to get clean, work at pop's, and show support for the town he hurt (bc jason's death def hurt riverdale). of course, unlike fp, he didn't clean up a murder, he just completely exposed every single person in his book, especially the serpents (and i'll forever laugh at the fact that he changed fangs' name to toothy).
veronica also mirrors her father. hiram appears in season 2 and the first time we get an insight into his character is when archie goes into his study. above his desk, hiram keeps veronica's portrait "to keep him honest". it doesn't stop him from killing papa poutine or doing other nefarious things but she's there: a symbol of the one morally good thing he has in his life. veronica keeps her father's portrait for the same reason. he also keeps her honest but he's there as a symbol of evil. he doesn't symbolize just his sins, he's also a symbol of veronica's biggest regret and, arguably, the worst thing she's ever done: killing her own father. so he's there to keep her away from evil and stop her worst instincts. it's very interesting bc veronica is also on the verge of the law, the only difference between her and hiram is that she actively tries not to hurt anybody, especially those she loves. (which is what ended up being hiram's demise)
so archie also mirrors his dad. idk if you guys remember when archie wanted to live in new york with jughead? write music? enjoy life? it was so long ago but archie really didn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. he was dead set on forging his own path. of course, it all changes in s2, when his dad almost dies after the black hood attack. this is when archie's path changes and is no longer soft and sweet; it takes a darker turn. archie we see in s5-6 mirrors fred from s1-2. he's the soul of riverdale, someone who wants to unite the town, save it. we know that fred's dreams at a young age were to settle down and build a better riverdale. archie currently wants the exact same thing. that's why he's being so pushy with betty about taking the next steps, despite her clearly not wanting the same things (every time he mentions kids or marriage or whatever, she gets silent, cagey, and says nothing. take a hint, arch).
bonus: kevin was again so obsessed with cruising and back in s1-2, whenever he wasn't doing that, he'd find himself with moose. which is exactly what's happening now as well. just saying.
and now my fav: betty! i love betty. it's kind of hard to see her in s5-6 because most of the time we see her through archie's eyes and they're not doing betty justice. we mostly see her either trying to catch the trashbag killer or having a relationship moment with archie. she is, though, the only person reflecting herself from season 2. do you remember that episode when the black hood sent her to a murder house where she put on the hood for the very first time? that was such a defining moment for betty bc for the first time, she saw her inner darkness, she saw all that she is and the potential for evil she apparently has. this was such a crucial moment for betty! this was the moment she stop being the girl next door, and whatever dreams she had of a normal life were gone. betty before and after this moment are two different bettys with different wishes and outlooks on life. i believe that just as it was back then, betty is looking for an anchor, someone or something to steady her and keep her on the light side. but from that moment in the house, betty was always dancing on the line between good and bad. she doesn't want anyone to stop that dance, she just needs someone to join it.
which is what brings me to the relationship between betty and archie.
when betty described archie as the light in the dark and i remember thinking that this line was somehow familiar. and sure enough, i found it: in season 2. during veronica's confirmation, she tells archie "you're my beacon in the night". she's also trying to protect archie from her family's mob ways, keep him good and honest, and not taint him with the evil doings of her family members. throughout the entire episode, she describes archie as this light in the dark, the good amongst the evil of the world. this is also such a veronica line who looks at archie in the exact way jughead wants to later portray him: as the hero. the symbol of what's good and right in the world.
that one conversation between betty and archie is also almost a word-for-word copy of the conversation she had with jughead. it's insane how similar those are.
both of those situations are very similar to those of their previous relationships which is very weird. why would betty say such veronicasque line and archie something so similar to what jughead did? it's almost impossible and sometimes those moments made me think that we have another story in front of us (comic book, whatever), instead of what's actually happening. and i wouldn't put it past riverdale.
but i also have this feeling that none of the couples we're seeing right now are endgame. so betty and archie, jughead and tabitha, cheryl and heather, toni and fangs, they're not going to end up together bc they're set for break up.
betty and archie will break up bc they want different things. that dream of a fence and this dream of betty as a housewife or whatever is something that her mother once wanted (you know, this whole perfect family trope), but betty doesn't. she says it so clear that she's not ready for it and that she doesn't even know if she wants it in the first place. and why would she? her whole thing in s5-6 was about those serial killer genes, it's doubtful she wants to pass them on. even her serial killer bestie the trashbag killer points out that what archie wants doesn't align with what she wishes for. and idk what's up with archie's nesting wish? is it because he lacks family and longs for it? his mum is nowhere to be found, his uncle is gone for now, and for most of the s5-6, he wasn't very helpful. tbh, i don't like him this season bc he's insanely pushy about the whole babies and picket fence thing and i just dislike men like that so yeah
jughead and tabitha might break up bc jughead is super hung up on betty. there are clearly some unresolved feelings there and tbh, tabitha deserves better. also since she's an angel, she's probably going to have to do some other things? like helping people? idk, rafael doesn't seem to be earthbound so i guess we'll see what happens with tabitha.
heather seems to be a placeholder for toni and she's going to be out of the picture bc we never really got to know her. she's there to help cheryl with magic and she makes her happy but we're not getting enough of her for the show to keep her.
and toni and fangs are set for failure from the moment toni lies about why she wanted to get married. and she did it to win the custody battle, not because she loves fangs so much (although i think she does love him).
ultimately, what keeps me wondering is whether we'll come back to the moment of the explosion. this is when rivervale happened and the universes started leaking. bunker jughead didn't do a clean break and we're either going to face another recreation of it or we're gonna go back in time. s6 has to end rivervale. rivervale was leaking into riverdale and maybe that's also why some of the stories seemed off and the characters were also a little bit misplaced at times. and what will this new riverdale be like once its twin universe is gone? once they don't affect each other? who stays the same and who changes? those are some big questions and im sure s6 finale will leave us with a cliffhanger. or the question it always leaves us with: what now once this new tragedy is over?

For the weird questions for writers meme: 4, 13, 18, 25, and 36!
Okay, that's a bunch of questions, I'll do my best.
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
This is a bit cliché, I guess, but it's gotta be "gentle". So versitile and so easy to capture a vibe, especially in romance. And, well, there's a reason I tag everything Diego/Lila with otp: just be gentle.
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
I think I'd find it hard to write actual serious stuff. Stuff that I find strenuous enough to think about irl. That could be anything from a serious fight to dealing with stuff that is too political. In the sense that not handling it with care would either feel wrong or could actually upset someone.
Irony of ironies, because thirteen months ago I'd have said I could never do it, writing smut, at this point, comes pretty easily (also, that's what she said).
18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
This is from Kiss with a fist, one of my earliest fics:
--
She feels Diego come up to her and stand close by but he doesn't say anything yet and neither does she.
She gets back into her fighting stance, hands raised in front of her in loose fists, and swings her leg around to kick the bag from the side.
Lila brings her leg back down behind herself and is just getting ready for her next kick when she feels a boot nudge into her hamstring.
“What the fuck?” she grits out irritably and lets her hands drop to her sides while turning to look at Diego.
He has a perfectly neutral expression on his face, arms crossed over his chest far too casually, “Don't lean back when you're kicking.”
I know that, you fucker! she wants to scream at him.
“You're a prick.” she says instead, and gets back into position.
“Yeah.” he concedes but then says nothing more.
Lila gives the bag another kick and when she sets her foot down he doesn't nudge her in the back of the leg, just drawls, “You did it again.”
She doesn't know why, but Diego's winding her up. And it's working.
She rounds on him and aims her next kick at his side. “This fucking better?” she shouts, while he tries to get his arm up to protect his ribs. Apparently he didn't expect her to explode quite as quickly.
--
I wrote this passage because I like when they argue. I think it's never really directed at the other person, but they are both good at reading when what they need is to let off some steam. This is what's happening here, Diego provokes Lila into an actual fight for her to have the chance to let some shit go (it ends in making out, cause, course it does XD)
This bit was inspired by the fact that I do Kung Fu and my trainer is always very careful to point out that we should lean back when kicking and it's further inspired by a bit from the podcast Robert Sheehan and Tom Hopper did when they interviewed David Castañeda and he was telling them that when he was at the Muay Thai training camp in Thailand in preparation for S2, he had a trainer stand behind him with a stick, whaking him in the hamstrings when he wasn't kicking right or hard enough.
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
I mean, he's not technically my character, but I write about him a lot. In my head, Diego loves croissants (it's not relevant, but I have brought it up XD).
36. They say to Write What You Know. Setting aside for a moment the fact that this is terrible advice…what do you Know?
I work in education and have thought about an AU with Lila and Diego as teachers, but I just couldn't go there. Schools, just actually not particularly sexy places. Sure, in movies that works, irl, it does not XD
I am very seriously mulling over a telephone customer service rep AU. I have done that job, it was absolutely soul destroying, nothing nice or sexy ever happened there either, but I think it has more potential for conflict that could be fun to resolve XD.
