#not to sound like a feminist #but I'm not a fan of the female gender being used as an insult even as a joke #I get that men shouldn't be women and vice versa #and I get that women are weaker and slower than men #and those are undeniable facts #but that doesn't mean I like hearing guys call each other girls to #insult or degrade each other #how am I supposed to then believe that my gender is respected? #it's not that I want guys to be effiminate #and I get that guys will rag on each other #it's just *to me* it puts women down as a negative thing to be #and the lesser thing #No I don't believe all guys actually think anything of it beyond teasing their guy friends #so I know most of the time it's probably not meant to be a malicious statement about women #(most of the time but not all; there are men who do believe themselves to be superior to women) #I also feel that those kinds of insults (unintentionally) have contributed to harmful expectations of guys #and to women not wanting to be women #I know it happens in the reverse and I don't condone it anymore than I condone this #I just feel as though I see more of the female gender as insult than the other way around #I'm putting this as a rant in the tags because I'm not looking for a fight or debate #Or even make a political statement which I fear it would become #I just wanted to express an opinion I had on something that bothered me #I just . . . .if we're going to rag on people can we not use the opposite gender as an insult? #Even if it's true it doesn't need to be used as an insult

I'm not blaming the op of the original post, or trying to imply anything about them as a person. and I don't want to single out this post in particular, because the issue is an broadly reaching trend rather than any one individual happening to write a post in five minutes one time.

but I really Really wish we'd stop and think if it's a good idea to say "girls turning into boys makes them inherently less interesting" on the transgender website

picking a privileged group to be the butt of a joke because it's lighthearted when nobody's actually getting hurt by doing so Only Works when everyone within that group is actually privileged. making jokes about how men are lesser than doesn't Actually affect the people who are actually within power, but Does chip away at the confidence and comfort of marginalized men who are In these communities to be exposed to it.

and the issue isn't about any one joke or poorly worded discussion in particular, but it's difficult to articulate why it can feel so alienating and unsafe to have things like this be so common within my communities without sounding ridiculous or risk being made fun of for not being able to take a joke. because the framing of implied privilege makes it easy to twist those feelings alienation into the entitlement that's assumed with men taking issue with being the butt Of a joke.

I simply think "this type of person is inherently lesser than" should be reexamined and thrown out as a talking point, even in a lighthearted context. because there will always be vulnerable people within those groups who already Hear that they are lesser than for existing

Something I love about Leo is that, canonically, he IS capable of cooking, he’s just completely incapable of using a toaster. He’s banned from the kitchen not out of an inability to make edible food, but because being within six feet of a toaster causes the poor appliance to spontaneously combust.

In concept I like anthro planes bc I look at an airplane and think yeah that’s an animal. So it should be occasionally drawn as such. But in practice the art style and general look of anthro plane art does not appeal to me, and I’m not sure of other ways to depict airplanes as beasts other than anthro plane art, transformers, or those planes from Cars. Sometimes airplanes go past my house especially loudly (I assume they’re flying lower?) and the way it sounds from inside my house with everything vibrating slightly it’s like there’s a fucking beast monster outside. That’s absolutely an animal.

But mostly I just really like this guy

The narrator gets passive aggressive when reading about the upper city declining to sponsor, and the line about being an urchin feels very directed

writing has been hard lately, so as an apology for the lame updates, have a little concept piece/wip thing(?) of the continuation of this malaligned babytrap series.

babytrapping! with Kyle is a little bit different, it seems.

because for Kyle, anger exists in a vacuum. a chasm. but unfortunately for him, that abyssal trench dug itself a sanctum a little too close to his heart. his soul. a locksafe made of glass, reinforced with raw grit, resolve. it doesn't bother him much; a mere prickle across simmering nerves. quenchable. controllable.

but the thing about dying is that it tends to put everything into perspective. give nuance and meaning to what he might have taken for granted before. but not always for the best. still. these are usually one-offs. maybe they find religion or a renewed vigour for life. but what happens when it keeps happening? repeated brushes with death's gossamer embrace over and over again. the stench alone might drive a man mad—

something might shift, even. break apart.

and to him, a paradigm sounds like the blaring warnings in a distressed cockpit. wind narrowing to a whipcord. metal crumpling against the pavement. the hiss of gas. the roar of a fire as it gorges itself on engine fuel. death's rotten, gnarled fingers whispering, feather soft, across his nape.

he survives the fall, sure, but not unscathed. something breaks, shattering on impact. if not his flesh, not his bones, then it must have been that glass box housing the ugly, twisting blackhole that eats his wants clean from his bone. he doesn't know what the aftermath will bring, but the latest one seems to have dislodged his heart the prison of his ribs. it's not empty for long. the newly untethered contents of the chasm quickly fill the empty space.

the fallout is a wildfire of desperation fuelled by the dawning realisation of just how fragile human existence really is. and when he finds you're getting a little too close with a new friend in his absence, well. perspective, right? he might die tomorrow, but the fear of leaving you alone forever (with a man who isn't him and nothing to show for your relationship except hollow memories that will soon fade like fingerprints) sits in his guts like curdled milk. it simply won't do.

he can be amused if you fail a check, but the check is always relatively inconsequential, and again, Harry isn’t taking damage in these.

anyways. kim is a foil to every other cop we meet in the game specifically because he doesn’t view harry as a punching bag or a lost cause. gottlieb does nothing but sling jabs and glib jokes about harry’s health. torson+mclaine and the others laugh at harry’s panic attack over the radio. in response to harry’s suicide-by-car attempt(!!!!) jean yells about RCM budget. all kim’s lines in response to harry’s check failures and health-damage are consistent, explicit textual contrast against the callousness of the rest of the RCM. twisting kim’s character here requires a bad faith interpretation of the whole game.
