Hello my lovelies got a very pleasant surprise as I was returning home from the pharmacy. I wasn't feeling great I'd inadvertently forgot to take a medication I'm not meant to stop and didn't realise I'd also run out. So I was going into withdrawal aswell. This triggered several hypoglycemic events and very little sleep as a side effect from the withdrawal symptoms. So it was a nice surprise to see the group Anonymous For The Voiceless in my local town. As I had to pass them on my mobility scooter on route home I thought I'd say hello to say how awesome I thought it was they were here in my town. I spoke to a nice man with an American /Canadian accent and said that I thought it was great they were here and it's great what they were doing. Obviously, I need no convincing I explained I've been vegan for a number of years now.. 🥰 We swapped pleasantries and I came home I forgot to take my vaporiser out with me and was in alot of pain so I needed to have some pain relief in the form of cannabis when I got home. I'd ask how was they getting on today fortunately they received positive engagement. How can you not when you find out what really happens from farm to plate. My first positive action back in the 80s was to stop buying anything made from and tested on animals. In America, chickens are not given even the legal status of "animal" [4]. This means that literally any cruel action may be taken against the chicken, and it would be legal. They have been bred to be too fat to walk, and live their entire existence in extreme pain [5]. Turkeys are also bred to be too fat to walk or even breed. That's right: humans have made turkey's so unnaturally fat (x300%) that they cannot even have sex [6]. The solution? Humans spread the turkey's legs and gives them artificial insemination. This problem of turkey breeding is across factory -style farms and non-factory-style farms. Both chickens and turkey's are eventually crushed to death under their own weight [7]. Poultry also do not get to see the sky, but are bred and killed in utter captivity. Here's a really sick fact: Because there is no federal protection for chickens, "almost all chickens are conscious when their throats are cut, and many are literally scalded to death in feather-removal tanks after missing the throat-cutter" [7].

[...] What people tend to underestimate is just how prevalent animal cruelty really is. In animal farming, cruelty is not the exception, it is the norm. Searing the beaks off chickens, cutting the tails from pigs, castrating male animals without any anaesthetic, grinding male chicks alive because they do not produce eggs – these are standard industry practices, not isolated acts of malice. These are not performed by companies simply to be cruel, they are just reflective of the economic reality of farming animals for profit; these are the ways in which costs are cut. It is just not commercially viable for an egg company to keep around male birds who will not produce eggs, nor a dairy farm to keep male calves who won’t produce milk. Profit is always placed above lives, without exception, simply because it has to be in order to effectively exploit animals for profit.

Broiler chickens, bred to gain weight so rapidly that deformities and diseases are rife.⁣ ⁣ Many of the chickens can’t support their own body weight and end up with painful joints. In worst-case scenarios, they can’t even raise themselves up off the floor.⁣ ⁣ The rapid growth period and high body weight put a great deal of strain on a chicken’s heart, meaning they are highly susceptible to heart failure.⁣ ⁣ These individuals are destined for lives of pain and torture since the day they are born.⁣ ⁣ How is this fair?⁣

Animal righst activism (including veganism) and environmentalism has changed my life in so many ways:

I learned how to cook

I learned how to argue and converse with people

I learned to live without certain things I thought I couldn’t live without

I learned that most human habits are without any reason, most of them are excuses

I learned that leaving the comfort zone isn't as painful or annoying

I learned to be fearless and speak up for myself and others

I see many things from a different point of view now

I set new prioities, especially when I buy things

I save a lot of money and started spending it on the right things
