I have more comments to make on this.

This is the 1980s Teen Titans. You may not recognize some of these people, because I sure as hell didn't.

First of all, the green guy is Beast Boy, but they called him Changeling at the time. I assume they changed it (lol) because people kept saying it as "change-uh-ling".

It's a weird word.

The lady in red is Wonder Girl, who is either young Wonder Woman from another dimension, or an entirely different character who is Wonder Woman's sidekick. Or both? I refuse to put more effort into figuring this out than DC put into making it clear.

The inclusion of Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy in an anti-drug PSA is either embarrassing nonsense, or some kind of brilliant character arc.

This happened before the PSA, so you be the judge.

The guy with the star belt is The Protector, who was actually an original creation specifically for this anti-drug PSA.

He was a guy whose cousin got addicted to drugs, and it made him really mad. This for some reason attracted the attention of Nightwing, who trained him to karate fight drugs. So his whatever 80s costume is literally 60% of his powers.

He only appeared in DC comics a few other times. Once in the Heroes in Crisis mess of 2019, where Wikipedia says he was somehow ADDICTED TO DRUGS. He was then unceremoniously murdered.

If that's true, then that is very, very funny.

Fun Fact: they only created The Protector because Teen Titans' Robin was licensed to Nabisco at the time of the PSA.

For this:

"I'm sorry, Robin can't rail against drugs for your cookie-sponsored tie in, because we already said another cookie company can use him to just...you know...sell cookies."

Fair enough. This is far from the worst thing they would put Jason Todd through in the 1980s.

yeah because you're addicted. of course getting the thing you're addicted to will make you "feel good". that's the (harmful) drug industries goal. get people addicted, feed that addiction, so people talk about how good the drugs make them feel.

but hey, if you want your teeth to rot and fall out, smell like shit, or just have drugs make you change as a person... then yeah, use em I guess.

The one time I took ecstasy and put my life in danger

My ex, Shitty Boyfriend, once bought two ecstasy pills. He gave one to me and we took them together. Soon SB was high as a kite, but I felt nothing. Like, nothing at all. "Bummer" I thought, "I got ripped off."

Here's what really happened:

At the time I was on anti-depressants, specifically the SSRI-type ones. Now ecstasy works by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain: serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. SSRIs work similarly, which in my case caused the ecstasy pill to have no effect, because my brain was already saturated with those neurotransmitters. A common warning about ecstasy is not to mix it with SSRIs, because that combination can cause a potentially fatal serotonin syndrome. I did not know this, and had I had more than one pill things could have gone south pretty fast.

Later on I actually experienced something that I suspect was a serotonin syndrome, albeit with a different combination of substances, and it was not fun. It's always the best to just say no to all drugs, but if you don't, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE educate yourself about the possible interactions with other drugs, medicines or foods. It may save your life.

lately on this site i've been seeing a lot of "PCP" (pro-cannabis propaganda) and i just want to say that if you make me smell a weird weird stinky smell while i'm sitting outside eating my dinner you deserve whatever's coming, up to and including me stealing your identity and fully compromising your financial situation. also my bandmates and I are going to break in and sit around in your living room once you're inevitably evicted and laugh about how much of a stupid piece of shit stoner you are. sorry you can't handle real life, kid. can't help that i paid our neighbor to piss on your media center. maybe you could afford another one if you didn't own so many bongs and pot. some advice? build a 10x10 elevated platform above your house so you can lay nude in the sun. Oh wait, you can't afford to because of your junkie fiend dope habit that you only got into because you're spiritually underdeveloped! escape hell!

the problem here wasn’t the crack, it was the man. Crack is very much a problem but this ad says nothing about that. This tells me nothing about crack and only tells me I should not trust men.

Every once in awhile I will think about the anti drug abuse assembly from my senior year of high school. It started off with a mother describing finding her son dead from a overdose in the bathroom and talking about how her son started taking drugs when he was is high school. He was an alumni and his younger brother, a more recent alumni was also addicted to heroin. So many people in the assembly knew the family.

After the mom told her story a police officer gave a presentation that she was a bit to into. During this presentation she unfolded a body bag and told us she never zipped up a pretty face (the mother was still there) followed by her telling us all to go home after school and write our own obituary. Then she showed some footage of people injecting heroin into their necks while she continued talking about drug addiction. She didn’t even pause her presentation when some kids fainted. Instead she continued to show us footage of a child almost getting hit by a bus driven by someone who was on drugs. It was intense, chaotic, upsetting, and shocking at the same time.

To add onto of all of that, it was a morning assembly, so after some light trauma we all had to go to class.
