This Xanthorrhoea, or grass tree, brought Teddy in for a rest on its slender leaves. Dozens of years old before they will start flowering, the tall spike on this plant has sweet tasting nectar. As the lower leaves die they are cleared away by bush fires sweeping through. The bottom of these plants turn black with char and their age starts to become apparent with their increasing height.

First completed painting of 2023! It felt so nice to sit and paint after months of not being able to. I started this one quite a while ago and I am excited to have finished it. I have quite an obession with dingos. I love the vibrant colour of their coats. This one was a lot of fun to paint.

Pros of doing a nice bushwalk through a national park: trees! Birds! Nature! Interesting carnivorous plants!
Cons: utterly munting yourself physically for the rest of the weekend. Not noticing you’ve picked up a leech until you’ve soaked the hem of your dress and two separate socks with blood.
Worth it.
(Not pictured: #**+% leech that made off with my blood)
