Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E138 & 139 (May 25, 2021)
Hello, you lovely people! It’s Tuesday and it’s time again for TM! Tonight’s guests: Marisha Ray & Liam O’Brien! The first picture that pops up when you google his name to check the spelling for the thousandth time is him with a shaved head, which is a wild look.
Ah! According to Dani, this is likely the last Zoom Talks! I’m so happy to hear this! They complain about Laura’s internet freezing constantly whenever she was about to say something exciting.
This episode is sponsored by The Elder Scrolls Online. As I’ve recently resumed my Skyrim run, this makes me crave it all over again.
Liam talks about having to drop everything to start the Zoom call, then having 27 minutes of technical difficulties before they could even begin recording. Augh, same hat.
Beau navigating the Astral Sea & Cognouza was empowering and unsettling. “This is the coolest! Uh oh.” It’s like seeing a new piece of RL tech come out and thinking about how it will change everything, then immediately thinking about how it’ll be abused, like deepfakes.
The first interactions with the Somnovem was overwhelming. They started fighting gnolls in a medieval towns and are now fighting interstellar beings. For Beau, it felt like talking to a really drunk friend. I actually love how she phrases this. “To me, it definitely felt like when you talk to one of your friends when they’re really drunk, and you’re like, ‘oh, I see what version of this person I have right now.’ And then you catch another version of that person on a shit day, and you’re like, ‘ah, I get it, you’re having a shit day.’ But then you catch them when they’re all put together and holding it down, and you’re like, ‘okay, you only hate yourself on the fringes.’ I get that. I found the Somnovem relatable.” Dani: “I too am just a collection of different emotions just barely hanging on by a thread.”
Marisha was able to put the pieces together of the ninefold emotions pretty quickly.
They do a whole tape-review bit after Brian mispronounces Yussa that is amazing. Aside from that, the M9 are glad they got him out of the city. It felt like a die-in-the-Matrix situation for him.
Liam kind of always suspected Matt would dangle the time-travel carrot in front of him. He honestly doesn’t know which way he’d go now. “For a long time, Caleb was like, ‘this doesn’t exist, so it doesn’t matter.’” It’ll probably be a mental coin flip if it comes down to an in-game decision.
"The dice are a CW producer,” when it comes to Beau & Yasha fighting each other.
They can’t remember another prolonged encounter bleeding into another encounter directly since Thordak/Raishan & Kevdak/the herd.
Cosplay of the Week: cattheterrible on Twitter with a beautiful Yasha.
Liam thinks Matt did a great job making it feel like a pressure cooker in terms of balancing their approaches between Lucien’s party & Cree. They’re also both very pleased that their plan with the threshold crests worked - it’s one of the few plans they’ve had across two campaigns that worked. (Honorable mentions they pull: intuit charges, Gelidon, Yenk/Vorugal from C1. “Will Friedle was a better [tactician] than all of us that entire campaign.”)
As far as the nine eyes on everyone go, “we’re all just one metaphysical garbage disposal.” Omar starts barking and they joke the dog will be SAG-eligible before Dani. Ha!
Just the idea of Aeor as a relic of history is massively important. They might die at any point, but if they live, Caleb thinks it’s so important to preserve that history Indiana-Jones-style, especially since it was obviously more advanced as a civilization.
Marisha wonders if they can bring forward the piece of Lucien that is Molly. “It’s a fractal. It’s that full molecular crystalline structure that’s repeating and recurring, and even if it’s several times removed, it still feels like part of the same thing. But maybe a different version, a different timeline of what Lucien is was more or less Molly, and can we Spiderverse the fuck out of this? Can we somehow recall that programming from whatever’s buried? [...] It’s like how moving things to your Recycling Bin doesn’t really clear them from your hard drive.”
Fanart of the Week: mellifera38 with a beautiful Lucien pre-tentacles. The card award shenanigans come complete with massive fireworks green screen display, a rainbow unicorn, a cease and desist letter, eagle wings, lasers, and a PHYSICAL CARD in his hand oh my gosh, to celebrate the final Zoom Talks.
Liam is glad Essek was there to help out with the dunamantic elements of their fights. He’s doing a lot to redeem himself. Liam is also thinking a lot about endgame, long-term repercussions of how this would affect the kingdoms.
Marisha finds the weasel being Artagan adorably traumatic and hilariously tragic. Not only was this poor weasel getting dragged to hell and back, sometimes his personality gets shoved to the side to allow Artagan in. Poor thing, ha! Liam talks about one aspect of the game is that you learn things about your character as ago and then apply it backwards; “We ragged on this weasel so hard, that Matt was like ‘fuck you guys, he’s alive because there’s a fey prince inside him’ and made it retroactive through time.” He’d noticed it for a while, but because there was no downtime in Aeor, there was never a chance to casually bring it up. Beau’s confirmation of seeing something weird about the weasel was a relief that he wasn’t crazy.
It’s a lot of pressure to be the “face” of the party, especially considering Beau’s CHA stat is low. Now it feels like siblings deliberately pushing Lucien’s buttons, except with the full recognition you’re poking a nuclear bomb. It’s honestly been fun, though - she loves being a smartass to people she should ABSOLUTELY not be saying things to. In Caleb’s mind, Beau is the closest thing the group has to a responsible hero. Cad is a great sage, but Beau does what she thinks is the right thing that needs to be done.
They both laugh at this being Matt’s love letter to FF games. They should have been ready for the transformation and the amazing spectacle of the whole thing.
And that is that is that! Brian thanks the guests, Dani, and the crew. “We did it! We did Zoom. Thank you Marisha especially, and our amazing production team for figuring out a way for us to be able to do this from home and make all the artwork and everything so awesome. Thank you to everyone who has touched the show in some way and helped us do it from home.”
Is it Thursday yet?

On Being 13
by saintqueer
Date Written: July 2019
CW: brief mention of an eating disorder
I will be posting a series of old creative nonfiction essays I wrote in 2019-20 every Friday and tagging them #a saintqueer original. Some might be a little outdated but I'm getting my feet wet in the experience of sharing my own writing again. Hope you enjoy! My inbox is always open.
Your name is Jordan. It is 2006 and you just turned 13. You are officially a teenager. Not a preteen. Nor god-forbid a tween. You’re in eighth grade at middle school in the Bay Area suburbs and you just got your first cell phone. It’s a silver LG flip phone without a camera. Modern social media has been born but is not yet widespread. Myspace and AIM are still the name of the game. And your friend’s Top 8s are literally worth crying over. You buy songs you like on iTunes for 99 cents. Songs like Far Away by Nickelback and Jesus, Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood. That is, until you wizen up and start using LimeWire in 2007. By that time, you’ll think your tastes much improved. You’ll illegally download songs like Buy U a Drank by T-Pain, Wait For You by Elliott Yamin, and everything Chris Brown puts out. Every single feeling you have is so large it’s like it has the potential to kill you. Weird shit is happening to your body. You started puberty early but it shows absolutely no sign of stopping. Things just seem to be getting weirder and more emotional. You cut your own side bangs and they look hella cool.
Ok, let’s pause there. I’m gonna go ahead and break the fourth wall here. Reader, I was planning on doing this entire piece as a kind of immersive second person experience. But. I. Just. Can’t. It’s too hard and writing about being 13 is difficult enough. I think that intro was enough to get you in the right head space of Jordan circa 2006-2007.
Over the last year, there has been more truthful explorations of the adolescent experience in media than ever before. With shows like Pen15 and Big Mouth and films like Eighth Grade, I feel like for the first time I’m starting to come to terms with my own adolescence. Being 13 is really fucking hard. And 13-year-olds get such a bad rap when, honestly, they’re just trying to do the best they can with all the shit they’ve been thrown.
I first felt compelled to write this piece when reading a section of a book from my favorite podcaster, Karen Kilgariff. Karen describes a lecture series she went to in which one of the presenters made a case in defense of 13 year olds. Karen writes that being 13 “is the hardest age you ever have to be because of all the chemicals and hormones constantly raging through your body. It’s like you’re being drugged and then woken up with speed on a daily basis. All social structure implodes and resets itself in a totally unfamiliar way. You’re simultaneously the oldest version of a child and the youngest version of an adult, so you don’t belong anywhere. You don’t get babied, and you don’t get respect.” Basically, it fucking sucks!!!
At 13, my eating disorder was already in full swing and my body-dysmorphia-riddled brain had no shortage of reasons for why my life would be so much better if I weighed 25 pounds less. They would weigh us in gym class, one by one, and assign us our BMI classification (mine was “overweight”). I was constantly dieting, with resounding approval from family and peers; starving my growing body of whole food groups and then binging. My school used to sell these pizza hot pocket things in plastic wrapping called pizza sticks (they were so DELICIOUS). One time, I found an unopened and still-warm pizza stick on the floor next to a garbage can. Wildly hungry from my meager carb-less lunch I picked it up off the floor and shoved it into my mouth, facing the wall, in as few bites as possible so no one would see. OFF THE FLOOR…OUTSIDE. I think it was on a pile of leaves and other trash (though unopened, it was slightly flattened on one side so it might have been stepped on?). This is actually the first time I’ve told anyone that I did that. Blogging is fun.
I was truly beginning to understand that my body was a commodity in society. I couldn’t take up space as a girl and to be beautiful was to be frail. My body was a sexual thing but I was not allowed to be a sexual being. Boys were the horny ones, not girls. But boy, was I! The thing was I couldn’t tell anyone, only the bathtub faucet could know. This was heightened all the more by my church and my faith. Youth group taught me the importance of dressing modestly and how we had to do everything within our power to help easily tempted boys remain sexually pure. I had so much shame that I had any kind of sexuality at all.
A majority of us wanted to fit in when we were 13. And I wanted it desperately. It’s not necessarily that I wanted to be cool, it’s more like I just wanted to belong. I wanted to have best friends. I wanted boys to have crushes on me. I wanted to be wanted. And it never happened for me. I didn’t develop deep lasting friendships until my late teens. I didn’t have my first kiss until I was 21, for god’s sake. My friends at 13 were changeable and excluding. I felt like I was constantly vying for their approval and as I entered high school in 2007, my social life became the center of my world.
Admittedly, high school felt much more enjoyable than middle school. I had established my place in the cool crowd and shirked academics. I stopped listening to Christian Rock and started listening to Lil Wayne and learning how to twerk. I cut class with a friend to straighten my hair with my hot pink straightener in Starbucks. I got in trouble with the cops for underage drinking. I got better at actually starving myself for a few days at a time instead of just dieting. I was significantly better at swearing. However, every single thing still felt like the biggest deal ever and it felt like it would always be that way.
Now, over a dozen years later, I hardly ever think about how it felt to be 13. I always forget that I “fell in love” with a boy named Alex at church summer camp who I saw from afar five times and talked to once for two minutes. It’s hard to believe now that I wrote his name in sharpie on my converse sneakers and sang I Drive Myself Crazy by *Nsync while crying and staring directly back at myself in the mirror.
This might seem unforgiving but I feel like the one redeemable thing about being 13 is that it doesn’t last forever. It ends. You grow and you change and you work through your trauma. If you’re lucky, you get better friends and you go to therapy and do some healing over ten years later by watching tv shows and movies that remind you of every painful feeling. Then you look back and laugh. You laugh at that school dance where Peter said he’d never, ever slow dance with you. You laugh at the school dance less than a year later where you grind provocatively on a dude you don’t know to Get Low by Lil Jon and the Ying Yang Twins. You laugh (hysterically, I might add) at eating that pizza stick off the floor. You laugh at smoking weed for the first time using a plastic water bottle your friend somehow turned into a shitty bong. You laugh at shoplifting your first thong from Ross. You laugh at your self-cut side bangs. You laugh and you laugh and you laugh and then you, finally, move on.

Hello, when you said you were going to add tgf3 to the plot (altered for how bad it was), would you add Vincent to the plot and what would Lucy and Vicky's relationship be (actually I don't like Vincent and his relationship with Mary was disgusting 🤢, I see Niccolo being replaced as a possible successor to Michael, it would be There is a struggle because of that by Vicky), I wish Verona would be the opposite of Mary, to put the family before everything,be as strong of a character as her mom ❤☺
I don’t want to include Lucy’s affair with Sonny to begin with so we can cross off Vincent’s existence altogether. 💀 I feel that’s too messy and doesn’t add to the plot in the way that I want.
For now I’m not entirely sure. 👀 Since we’re technically on TGF2 plot, I want to wrap that up before watching TGF3 again and just take in the plot and see if I have any ideas for it. Because I might not, honestly! 😅
TGF3 revolves around a redeemed Michael whose lost everything and what the aftermath of his actions have gotten him to. That meaning, Michael feels remorse and although he believes he did what was right back in the day, he wants to repent, be a better man, get back in contact with his family, etc. 👁👁 I don’t really see how that would fit into the plot of “Moth to Flame”. Michael in this AU does not legitimize his business and he doesn’t care if what he does is legally or morally right/wrong. Victoria doesn’t leave him, she wants to give him more children, she supports the expansion of the Corleone family and all of his ambitions, so… 🤔
It’s like imagine if Michael continued the way he did in TGF2 as the cold hearted Don, it’s just that the fic revolves around the reader married to him who not only supports his business, but is a part of it herself. Complete opposite of Kay.
Michael doesn’t really lose anything (except Fredo I guess 😭💔). Vito, Carmela and Sonny are still alive and so is Clemenza. What I’m trying to say is that this fanfic AU is fixated on his villain arc (outside of the fact it is a smut x reader where you/the reader experiences a relationship with him)!
Perhaps I think I can do one or two chapters of TGF3 but that would solely be to provide happy + tragic endings 25-30 years later. That would show where the family is, how the kids are, what’s changed, etc, but there wouldn’t be a plot to continue on, if that makes sense. 🙏🏻

FATE'S GAMES SPECIAL
Tumblr media
*not canon or part of the storyline, sorry 😔✋🏽
smau masterlist
content that didn't make the cut:
— chapter 25 alt end:
𝗶𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱
Tumblr media
“Daniel Y/L/N,” you gritted out.
“Long time no see, sister.”
The fucking nerve of this guy to even have the face to meet you. He somehow still upheld a small smile, which made you more livid.
“Why are you here?”
“To make amends. Is that too bad?” He shrugged lightly, too casual for your liking.
This was the asshole that had caused you a lot of years of suffering. He was the reason you had to shed blood, sweat, and tears to simply finish your degree in college. He was the root of your problems, the cause of why you had trust issues.
Mainly, he was the reason why the only people you could call your family was the seven best friends who took you in.
“You lost that chance years ago, Daniel!”
You tried your best not to let the anger within you take the wheel. If it did, you were sure you had to leave Seoul with a case of murder stained in your records.
“I’m leaving,” You murmured, snatching Jungkook’s hand and storming off to God knows where.
He followed you wherever you went though. No matter how many turns you took, he was hot on your tail. It took so much in you not to break Jungkook’s hand from the frustration you felt.
“Just give me a chance to explain, sister,” He pleaded.
You finally heard the desperation leak in his tone. Giving up, though not letting your guard down, you allowed it. You gave him yet another chance to redeem himself.
With reluctance, Jungkook left you to talk to Daniel. After reading his last message and texting Hoseok, you closed your phone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s relive the years of anguish, you sarcastically cheered internally.
“Don’t call me sister. That title died with you three when you moved to America without even so much as telling me,” You breathed out, tears trying their best not to fall from your eyes.
Daniel visibly flinched at that jab. He was a shitty brother after all.
“I… I didn’t mean for it to happen…”
“What a shitty excuse. You didn’t mean for it to happen? What bullshit is that?”
“I never thought they’d take it too far,” He whispered, unable to keep eye contact with you. If he did, he would see how much pain he had caused you.
You chuckled rather sarcastically.
“Yet they did. And you never did anything, did you Dani?” You sneered, the nickname that left your mouth didn’t feel as warm as it did.
Growing up with a traditional family wasn’t something you both could escape from. Your parents had a love-less marriage, meant only to expand whatever business they had.
As first-born, Daniel was expected of a lot of things. Intelligence, charm, and any other business-related characteristic that should help them prosper. But he wasn’t any of those things. He didn’t take interest in the entire idea. Instead of stocks and investments, he wanted modelling. Instead of maths, he wanted fashion.
Neither your mother nor father were having it.
So while he was forced to sacrifice his childhood for your parents, you had the freedom to exercise yours.
He’d be gifted with various accountancy and business related textbooks and would watch as you played with your toys and dolls. He never had those.
Your parents didn’t pay mind to your hobbies. They didn’t mind that you often geeked out at every video game you loved. They were too focused on making Daniel the CEO he will be.
He was angry. He was envious.
But he would be lying if he said he didn’t love you.
You were an empath at heart and would often cheer him up when the pressure was too much. He could still remember when you discovered him breaking down after a certain scolding happened— you dropped everything to rush to his side and say “It’s okay, Dani. I’m here for you.”
The memory of the countless cupcakes you had attempted to make just to make him smile was still etched in his mind. They weren’t the best tasting cupcakes out there, but they were made by you. And it made everything okay.
However, every thread snaps when it reaches its breaking point.
He had reached his— his envy became far too strong than the care had for you.
It was supposed to be a light remark so their parents could give him some sort of leeway in life. But the anger rushed out of his mouth and he couldn’t stop the word-vomit from pouring out.
He watched your parents’ treatment change and had to witness you take the burnt for him. You were now the one they had criticized at every twitch of a finger. They suddenly turned against you, angry at how you “wasted” your life with videogames.
He regretted every single thing he had said.
Perhaps it’s too late now.
“I had no power over them, you know that,” he muttered, taking your silence after he had explained everything as a cue to speak.
“You know… I never really minded them moving to America. But even you left me, Dani,” you croaked out.
“I’m sorry.”
“I became broke when I entered college. I had to work different jobs and eventually stick with the career I have.”
“I’m sorry,” He whispered once again, hands clasped tightly.
“I had no one else to rely on for a few years until my friends showed up,” You sighed.
“I’m sorry.”
It seemed more like a mantra by now. While it wasn’t enough to compensate for each day you had to go by without anyone else, it eased your heart a little bit.
He had also mentioned that he was sent by his parents to fix whatever you two had for the sake of the company. Your fame would bring them benefits, they said. Your brother ignored whatever ulterior motive they had initially planned, and took this chance to finally own up to the shittiest fuck up he had done.
You were thankful for the honesty, sensing that he was true to his word.
“I can’t forgive you immediately, you know,” You reminded, fiddling your thumbs out of anxiety.
“I know. I don’t mind waiting.”
Your brother had finally returned to you.
Jungkook stood beside you as you two waved your brother goodbye. He insisted on holding your hand when you two bid Daniel adieu.
With a heavy sigh, you turned to Jungkook, who had been patiently waiting for you and Daniel to talk it out.
“I’m so—”
He cut you off by tightly engulfing you in his arms. Jungkook softly patted your head as he brought you closer with his other hand.
“I’m glad you’re okay, pumpkin,” Jungkook said ever so gently, resting his chin on your head.
Turning red at his gesture, you allowed yourself to melt in his arms and returned the hug by wrapping your arms around his waist.
“Thank you, kook. I can’t tell you that enough,” You murmured, feeling warm from his gentleness.
He had sadly broken up the hug soon after. It was the first time you’d seen his ears become red but you didn’t point it out.
Clearing his throat, he once again took your hand in his and led you to wherever the others were. He said you might get lost if he didn’t clutch one hand and it would be hard to find you because you were vertically inclined.
If everyone else heard his excuse, they’d definitely say Sure Jan.
You didn’t mind though, actually liking the feeling of his large hands encasing yours.
And if you did mind, you couldn’t actually speak. After all, Daniel decided to leave you with a few parting words that made you embarrassed and rattled.
“You seem to have a crush on your guard dog, N/N.”
Ah you should’ve smacked him when you had the chance. You? Have a crush on Him??? How ab...surd…
You honestly didn’t know anymore. But Jungkook’s hand in yours, you were certain that everything will now turn out fine.
Jungkook’s only problem now was how he’d be able to find the courage to say what he wanted to say earlier.
I like you, Y/N.
But he was content with whatever you two are now, your hands snugly fit with his.
Tumblr media
*note: the reason i didn't chose this path is because it seems illogical. don't you think?
i mean,,, it won't be easy to forgive Daniel for what he had done,,, so i made him the bad guy ;-;) but it gets better in the end i swear!
also another reason was i really wasn't happy with how it turned out ;-;) seemed too rushed for them to make amends doesn't it?

ranking every single asian drama/series/movie that i have ever watched
(this isn’t 100% accurate cuz I’ve decided to include shows that are still airing and they may move up or down on the list once they’ve finished airing. Shows with multiple seasons/spin-offs will be counted as one unless I decided that they’re too different to be in one rank. And lastly, I don’t dislike the shows that are low on the list—unless I explicitly say so—I’ve just watched a shitload of dramas, so don’t attack me if ur fave is at 26 or smth lmao)
I did my best to keep the explanations short and avoid spoilers
1. The Gifted
Are you surprised? Do I even need to explain?
2. HIStory 3: Trapped
Again, should be pretty self-explanatory. The plot? The acting? The tropes? Utter perfection.
3. 3 Will Be Free
Haha. 3wbf... is 3rd place. It’s just amazing and so criminally underrated.
4. Until We Meet Again
I LOVE THIS SHOW SM I WATCHED IT 7 TIMES KLJFSLKJDFS I JUST LOVE IT PLUS FLUKE’S ACTING AND DEANPHARM ARE JUST SO HEALTHY AND WHOLESOME AND CARING I LOVE THEM.
5. He’s Coming To Me
a GODLY show !!! SO UNDERRATED. Ugh that rooftop scene TT.
6. The Untamed
I know it’s shocking that this isn’t higher up IM SORRY OKAY but this show was so good i cried so much lksjlfjdsfdjlkf GOD TIER.
7. Theory of Love
G O D L Y. It has the best scenes that just punch you in the gut and make you cry while you think about them at night.
8. Great Men Academy
WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS SHOW. anyways i would die for tangmo.
9. Cherry Magic
MY FAVOURITE ON AIR SHOW. It’s so fucking good and it’s sooooo relatable and cute and fun and just GOOD. Ugh it’s a whole blessing. Literally the concept is also just amazing, plus the representation is actually accurate?? LIKE ITS SO RELATABLE JLSJFKJKJKD AND REAL. AND THE CHARACTERS ARE SO KLJLKFJDLKJLSKJD.
10. I Told Sunset About You
THE SETS ARE SO PRETTY. THE VISUALS. ASTOUNDING. THE ACTING KSLJFKJLDF. It exceeded my expectations holy crap and the chinese culture incorporated into it feels so nice and genuine. literally i watched some of it today before my chinese class lmao. OMG AND THE OST.
11. Mr. Heart
ugh this show stole my heart (pun intended).
12. Dark Blue Kiss
SO. GODDAMN. UNDERRATED. THE WAY IT ACCURATELY REPS LGBTQ+ YOUTH’S RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR PARENTS AND COMING OUT AND EXPECTATIONS G O D L Y
13. Oxygen
SOFT. HEALTHY. CUTE. H E I G H T  D I F F E R E N C E.
14. 2gether
would’ve been higher if it werent for the last two episodes of the show, but still2gether redeemed it quite a bit.
15. HIStory 2: Crossing The Line
QIU ZIXUAN LKDSJFLDJLJFDKJSLJ CUTE AS FUCK.
16. Where Your Eyes Linger
tHAT OST. AND THE LAST SCENE. I MEAN SHIT SLJFSDKJFLSDJFK.
17. HIStory 2: Right or Wrong
it’s so soft and at first i was so hesitant to watch it with the age gap but it was surprisingly like really healthy? and like the mom with the fruit knife?
18. Love By Chance
IM SORRY I PUT THIS SO LOW its just that klano and tumtar were not my cup of tea and i watched it mostly for aepete only for them to be apart at the end of season 1. I like season 2 but this time i only have tincan...
19. Gameboys
okay i was going to put this way higher because ITS SO FUCKING GOOD LITERALLY but then again i felt more impressed/attached to the ones above... BUT LITERALLY PEARL AND CAIREEL ARE JUST SDLSJDFSKDFL THE BEST.
20. Sotus
If i could put multiple shows in one rank i would but ive decided not too cuz then there would only be 6 ranks with 10 shows in each one... that’s why sotus is so low TT SORRY I LOVE IT BUT I LOVE OTHER SHOWS A LITTLE MORE.
21. 2Moons2
it was enjoyable. I didn’t like the main couple much tho.
22. Red Wine In The Dark Night
omg this movie i really liked it especially the ending it was really symbolic and i really like slight-horror type things. also FLUKE !!!! a KING of acting.
23. Transit Girls
SOFT WLW.
24. My Engineer
don’t get me wrong i love this show BUT it’s yet another engineering concept and i just don’t see it going above the other dramas...
25. Why R U
the plot was messy but the chemistry between the actors saved the entire show.
26. TharnType
I KNOW ITS LOW DONT KILL ME the plot was good but i don’t like how lhong was painted as a misunderstood little boi like HE IS A CRIMINAL DONT GIVE HIM A REDEMPTION ARC AND DONT TRY TO MAKE ME PITY HIM. also the non-con was uncomfy as hell.
27. A Round Trip To Love
THE CINEMATOGRAPHY AND SYMBOLISM ON GOD ISLJFDLJD. i don’t see this movie as like... an example of a healthy relationship... but the story itself is really interesting and the way the characters change yet stay the same is cool.
28. The Shipper
i enjoyed watching it but i dont think i could rewatch it. it was good nonetheless, i don’t regret watching it at all.
29. Together With Me
it’s good. but the side plots/side couples were not it. yihwa is a queen tho.
30. Ingredients
SOOOOO CUTE LSKJFDKJJF. but the plot is kinda nonexistent but IT DOESNT MATTER CUZ ITS CUTE AND FLUFFY AND UWU AND JEFF.
31. The Effect
this show gave me depression but damn the theme was so real.
32. Guardian

1, 7, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30 (putting you on blast lmao), 31, 37, 38 (ill let you pick just gimme the headcanons!), 40, 41, 49, 50
aer i love u LOL thank u for this gift. my brain is very wrung-sponge this morning so will have to answer the hc questions later 2day but i will answer the rest now. LOTS OF SPOILERS AHEAD!:
1. Who is your favorite character in the show? ok i have two answers for this, and both of them feel like they’re everyone’s answer but i can’t help it, these are my feelings!!!
objectively: catra. i love her story arc SO! MUCH! i thought it was done so well and she’s been through so much and i’m so proud of her. subjectively: adora. she is my people, i identify with her so much and she is so special to me and i will elaborate on this in #7 lol.
7. Do any characters remind you of yourself? Do you share any traits with a character? adora, 100%. she is Anxious and has such high standards for herself and takes responsibility for so much when she doesn’t have to!!! she’s been taught basically since birth to please others, to shoulder blame, to rise to others’ expectations, to be infallible - yeah, that all resonates with me a lot, haha.
23. Favorite episode? Corridors, hands down. if i had 24 minutes and 7 seconds to live, that is what i would watch. i wish i were exaggerating!! special shoutout to save the cat and white out as well. i can watch those episodes at ANY TIME, in ANY LIFE.
24. Did you cry at any point watching She Ra? the first time i watched, i only cried once - when mara says “you’re worth more than what you can give to other people; you deserve love too”. it felt like she was talking to me thru the screen and i just lost it. when i re-watch, i cannot watch Promise without crying. i didn’t Understand how important that episode was the first time, and now every time i watch, i cannot deal!!
26. Are there any characters you don’t like/find annoying? listen. i literally love them all. some are definitely more fleshed out than others, but i can honestly say i love every single one of these dummies with my whole heart. well. obviously i hate shadow weaver because like, she sucks. but as a character, i enjoy her immensely.
27. Are there any characters that you didn’t like at first but now you do? YES. seahawk!!! swiftwind!!! i didn’t properly appreciate mermista until season 4 (a tru crime).
28. Does Swift Wind deserve rights? listen, swiftwind redeemed himself in my eyes from that one scene where he imitates shadow weaver. shit was hilarious!!!
30. How many times have you watched She Ra? ... LISTEN. 😂 okay, so i’ve watched the entire show, beginning to end, about 6 times. three times by myself, three times with friends. my favorite episodes, tho? i’ve probably watched corridors/save the cat more than 20 times, at this point. listen. we know i have a problem. i have accepted this about myself.
37. Do you have any unpopular thoughts/opinions about She Ra? my most unpopular opinion is probably the fact that i love every single character, LOL. 40. Why do you like She Ra? it’s just... it’s so special to me. i guess i’ll split this into objective and subjective again, haha. objectively: the way the show discusses abuse, toxic friendships, its allegories to religion and guilt, the idea that you can make mistakes over and over and still, finally, after everything you’ve done, choose to be better? *chefs kiss*. there are so many important, nuanced messages in the show that people of all ages need to hear, and it’s BEAUTIFUL. also, the representation, duh. and the characters are hilarious and layered and charming and genuinely so incredible to me. subjectively: catra in a suit, catra’s outfit in season 4, catr-- ok i’m kidding (i’m not kidding) but the show also just perfectly jives with my brand of humor - a little dumb, a little tongue-in-cheek, i don’t know how to explain it. i just feel like, every emotion when i watch it, and it makes me feel a little more alive or something. 41. What do you not like about She Ra? i wanted/needed just a little bit more of some plotlines!!! my one major letdown from the show is the resolution on catra and scorpia’s relationship (give us a proper reconciliation, you cowards!!! scorpia deserved better!!!) i would have killed for a full 25-minute epilogue episode. speaking of scorpia, where are scorpia’s moms!?!?! also what the heck is going on with entrapta’s family? we got so much great development with bow and glimmer’s families, i just want more for the rest of the princesses!!! i know there’s only so many episodes but!!!! i need more!!!
49. What character is underrated? omg, easiest answer on this list for me. perfuma!!! her growth in the show is so under the radar, but the fact that she goes from treating vulnerability as a weakness in s1 to seeing vulnerability as her biggest strength in s5???? incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular-- 50. What character is overrated? i understand that this answer is a cop-out, but: i love these stupid humans (also some non-humans) so much. i am the one doing the overrating. none of them are overrated. they are all perfectly-rated and this is the hill i will die on 😂 thank u so much aer, u are the best LOL

TSI - Chapter 1 Notes
Here are my full notes and commentary for Chapter 1 of my Harry Potter fic 'The Snake Inside'.
Chapter 1 can be found here.
Throughout the chapter there are numbers in parentheses, these numbers correspond to the below notes. To best understand what I’m talking about in the notes I would recommend opening the story in a second tab and following along from there.
(notes begin under the cut)
1. This is, if you hadn’t noticed, lifted directly from the book, I do do this a couple times however, this is the only one that is italicized. I’m going to try and point out the other instances in chapter notes as well.
2. Another line lifted from the book, although here it has slightly different context
3. This was another line from the book, although again it has slightly different context (also I swear these notes aren’t just going to be me citing passages from the book)
4. I was actually really conflicted over this. Dudley is obviously incredibly spoiled so I figured it made sense that if for once Harry had something that he didn’t that he would throw a fit and demand he get the same. What I wasn’t confident about was how Petunia or Vernon would react as they really do love Dudley, shown by how much they spoil him. In this scenario, I decided that Petunia’s hatred of magic plus her fear of losing Dudley to magic (just like she lost her sister) would drive her to hit Dudley.
5. The first signs of Harry’s sneaky Slytherin side! He reads the room and chooses the best manner to approach the situation, something he would be good at considering he grew up in an abusive household. He would likely have gotten very good at reading moods and acting accordingly at a young age to avoid being hit or yelled at.
6. It might seem like Harry is a little quick to believe in Hogwarts and want to go considering he knows nothing about it. But, it’s an escape from the Dursleys and the terrible school they were going to send him to. Plus, it’s obvious that the Dursleys hate magic, so why would they lie to Harry about him being a wizard?
7. I know in canon Hogwarts is free, but that simply doesn’t make sense to me. In my world, Hogwarts is the best and most elite school in Britain, but it’s not the only one. There are also smaller ‘public’ wizarding schools that people who can’t afford Hogwarts go to. Also, if Hogwarts has a tuition then it only makes sense to me that the Potter Parents would set up an education fund for Harry, especially since their lives were at risk, they would want to make sure that Harry would be able to get the best education possible.
8. Some more Slytherin sneakiness, Harry isn’t a master manipulator by any means but he’s lived with the Dursleys for 11 years, he knows how to play them.
9. I don’t write it in bc it seemed unnecessary, but she does explain her reasoning off-screen.
10. Some foreshadowing here, I thought I was rather clever, finding a logical way for Harry and Vernon to learn how to enter the train platform.
11. This whole paragraph is my attempt at showing how Harry is still just a kid who’s curious about the new world he’s found himself in. I know I write Harry (and all the characters his age) as being a little more mature than they probably would be in reality, so here I was trying to show a pure, childlike curiosity and also some trains of thought that aren’t totally logical bc he is a kid.
12. I do think the Dursleys, or Vernon at least, is more clever than he gets credit for, he is high up in Grunnings, so he has to have some sort of head on his shoulders, and he’s certainly self-serving we saw in book 2 how he lathered up those rich people he wanted to impress. So, I think as much as Vernon might hate magic and think goblins are disgusting, that he would very much be able to put that aside if he thought it might benefit him.
13. The goblins ‘revealing the truth’ to Harry, or giving him or helping him out in some way is kinda over done and doesn’t always make sense as the goblins really have no reason so want to go out of their way to help Harry. But, I needed an unbiased 3rd party to teach Harry a little about the wizarding world and I figured a satisfactory motivation for the goblins would be making money in the form of consultation fees.
14. The first hints of Dumbledore’s manipulations. He wants a naïve Savior who will be easy for him to influence and shape into the person he thinks the world needs. Note, I’m not going for an evil Dumbledore, just a morally grey Dumbledore.
15. Paper business refers to the practice of owning a business on paper but not being involved in how it’s currently ran, I’m not trying to say that the Potters own several companies that sell paper. I don’t know if this is a common term, when I googled it nothing came up, but my dad uses it a lot when talking about businesses. Also, we know in canon that the Potters are rich but in a lot of fics it has evolved into them being extremely wealthy and influential. I’m running with this fanon idea because the Potters are a very old family, they’ve been around since the 12thcentury and married into other very influential families in canon. Also, if I ever get to the later years I do want to mess around with some politics and Harry having power from his family name will be a necessary advantage.
16. I’m not going to bore you guys with paragraphs detailing just how exceedingly rich Harry is, if he can’t even do anything with what he owns yet. He’s 11, he’s not going to be making any smart investments.
17. Like I said earlier with the tuition vault, the Potters were soldiers in a war, they knew they might die and I think it’s only logical that they would take precautions to ensure that Harry would have a comfortable life should they die.
18. This might seem like a lot, but again, the Potters are rich and they want their only child to be able to have a comfortable life even if they die, plus it is supposed to last until Harry’s an adult.
19. This is not canon, JKR said that a galleon is approx. 5 British pounds. I think that’s too low, so I changed it. I mean, it’s solid gold and the highest form of currency it’s got to be worth more than that.
20. Trying to give Dumbledore the benefit of the doubt, but of course Vernon is going to be suspicious of anyone who took money that he could have used.
21. This is just something that I thought made sense, Gringotts has been established as being in the business of making money and how can they do that if they’re cut off from part of their clientele?
22. I’m trying to go in a new direction with the Dursleys, I’m not trying to redeem them, but like Dumbledore, they’re in a grey area, especially Vernon. I think a self-serving Vernon would be interested in learning more about the magic world, or more specifically learning what it can do for him. But also because you need to know your enemy, as interested as he might be in profiting off magic, Vernon doesn’t trust wizards. As for Harry, this is a Slytherin AU, of course he’s going to play along with his uncle’s plan as long as it benefits him.
23. This is another line from the book
24. Hints that Dean is actually a halfblood and not muggleborn, this is canon too. I’m looking forward to exploring the future “tracking down who my real dad was arc”
25. Originally, I had Harry meet Hermione and her family, but I decided to change it to Dean because I wanted to go down some different avenues. A lot of Slytherin Harry stories have Harry becoming friends with Hermione early on despite their differences and I didn’t want to just do the same thing as everyone else. Also, I really like Dean Thomas’s character he’s a friendly, good natured, brave and loyal. I also think that Harry would get along better with Dean right off the bat than he would with Hermione.
26. Honestly, I think it’s ridiculous that they still use quills and I will be using the trope where Harry sneaks in ballpoint pens.
27. Harry came to Diagon a few days earlier than he did in canon, so I figure it only makes sense that he would meet someone different at Madam Malkins also this gave me a great opportunity to shoe in one of my other favorite characters, Neville.
28. I headcanon that Harry and Neville have a slight magical bond over both being possible options for the prophecy.
29. I admit this is slightly unrealistic, as I’ve dropped my glasses several times before and they’ve never broken but I wanted an excuse to get Harry some new glasses.
30. Not implausible, but also not likely either. Also, I admit I really have no clue about British healthcare, especially not what it was like in the 80s and 90s. I know it’s free, but that there’s also the option to do private or paid care. So, for this story, assume that the Dursleys use private care bc they want to seem better than everyone else.
31. Again, probably not the most realistic scenario, but it is possible. I got glasses when I was 11 and contacts when I was 15, but I definitely could have gotten the contacts when I was a little younger. Maybe not, 11-years old younger, but I don’t think it’s entirely out of the ballpark.
32. I didn’t see any point in changing Hedwig’s name, so I kept it the same.
33. Giving Harry contacts was something that I debated a lot, there’s no real reason he needs them, I just wanted him to have some because they’re convenient. I personally regret not getting contacts earlier.
34. To be honest, this is actually a bit of a cop out on my end because I haven’t figured out the entire political system yet. BUT even if I had, Harry is still 11 so he probably wouldn’t understand it that well anyways. There will be a brief explanation in chapter 2 though.
35. Dudley’s reaction is anything thing I was really torn up about. Because he’s essentially torn between his two parents, sticking with Petunia ostracizes him from Vernon and sticking with Vernon ostracizes him from Petunia. Ultimately, I decided Dudley would value his father’s attention more because while Petunia wouldn’t like him getting involved with magic, she wouldn’t cut Dudley off completely, she loves him too much. But Vernon, has been completely distracted by magic and without Dudley getting involved in it too then he won’t get any attention from his father.
36. According to the HP wiki, Dean’s family actually lives in London, but I wanted it to be more convenient for them to meet so I moved them closer to the Dursleys. Also, I actually did about an hour’s worth of research on google maps trying to find a real place Dean’s family to live.
37. A whole lot of this section with the Weasleys was lifted from the book with slightly different commentary from Harry. I originally had more, but it didn’t add anything so I cut it out.
38. I don’t know how outgoing Ron was before he met Harry, if I was him though I would be too nervous to intrude on a compartment with two other kids who looked like they were already friends.
39. This is not a Ron bashing fic, Harry has no reason to dislike him, so of course he wouldn’t be opposed to sitting with him. That said, for the premise of the story I couldn’t have them sit together because Ron is heavily biased against Slytherin.
40. Poor Draco, if he had just paid more attention to who he was passing in the hall then he would have met Harry, but again, I couldn’t let that happen because Draco’s so obnoxious that he’d turn Harry off Slytherin.
41. Honestly, I just wanted Harry to interact with more students who can be potential friends.
42. Again, and the sorting is lifted from the book. I’m not going to make note of every line.
43. I wasn’t sure if I wanted Neville to be in Hufflepuff of Gryffindor at first. A lot of people argue that Neville needed to be in Gryffindor to learn how to be brave, but I think that Hufflepuff would provide a strong support system that would help Neville gain confidence in himself. Also, I decided that Harry’s words in the robe shop would influence Neville into not thinking that he was a loser if he went to Hufflepuff. I imagine in canon, much like Harry was chanting “not slytherin” Neville was probably chanting “not Hufflepuff”. So I think it’s fitting they both don’t end up in Gryffindor in this fic. Also, Harry already has a Gryffindor friend in Dean, he can use a Hufflepuff friend.

When I was a kid, I feared animated baddies who did things that unsettled me personally. Belittling the heroes, kidnapping, grabbing someone by their clothes, etc. I like to call these moments my ‘villainous red flags’. One can imagine how many that went off when I 1st saw Boxtrolls. It’s not that I’m scared of villains like Snatcher now, but as an adult, I like rewatching these animated films to get inside their heads; to wonder why they’re like this, & who they might be when no one’s looking.
Hey, that’s super valid! I know when I was a kid, I was unsettled and/or scared by...everything. It’s pretty hilarious now, because I’m that 90s kid who would always go to the bookstore to pick up a new fantasy series but have to avert my eyes from the section where they had the Goosebumps books because the cover art alone freaked me out too much. And now I’m that grown-up who has read about 25% of CreepyPasta Wiki’s archives and found half of it boring.
I’ll say my relationship with villains is pretty weird in that it’s NOT really complicated. At this point, I have very little I’m uncomfortable with. I think Jerome Valeska in Gotham (mass murderer) is legitimately humorous. I think Junko Enoshima from DanganRonpa (terrorist, organized the apocalypse, made her friends kill each other for fun) is a treasure. My favorite show tune to sing in the car is “Meant to Be Yours” from Heathers: The Musical, but the icing on the cake is I actually like film!J.D. better because he’s LESS sympathetic. I want to be a good person and do good things, but I’ve got a dark part of my brain that just likes when characters have fun doing horrible things. The most uncomfortable I ever was with a villain for being too vile was Ramsay Bolton (most of you know him from Game of Thrones, but I did the books, and I only say this because he is WORSE in the books than the show). And I’m gonna tell you right now, if you don’t know what Ramsay Bolton did that was so horrible, DON’T look it up because it’s probably gonna make you VERY uncomfortable. But then I had a friend who loved his simple bottom-of-the-barrel-ness and eventually, though this friend’s fandom, learned to enjoy Ramsay for just being The Worst and a good target to hate, and once you like Ramsay Bolton, all hope is lost for you (and by “you” I mean “me”). Like, it’s not JUST about if they’ve done icky things for shock value, but if that comes along with a dynamic personality. I like villains who enjoy doing bad things and have fun with it, and are quippy or energetic about it. I recently went back to the only three episodes of Code Geass I actually ever liked because I had to affirm that Mao was in fact the best character. He’s a yandere who wants to chainsaw one of the heroines to death so he can keep her where he wants her, but he’s very quirky and sassy, and I mostly bring this up because HEY, TUMBLR, WHERE IS MY MAO CODEGEASS CONTENT?
So honestly...Snatcher looks like innocent small potatoes compared to some of the ones in my deck. Remember, the only actual murder he ever committed was of a pile of empty boxes (if not for the lack of trying). But again, he has that juicy personality with quirks and flair that I just eat up.
I’m not saying that has to be you, though! We all have different things that squick us out and make us uncomfortable! And if certain villains can do that just by grabbing at others’ clothes, that’s a valid boundary. Just be aware of it and that it’s not going to be the same boundary on everyone else.
Myself? I know I just said I have no flags as far as villains being bad or gross goes, but the closest thing I have is when a character does horrible things in canon that I think no good person should ever do, but the narrative either lets them off without consequence (Lord Portley-Rind) or outright hails them as a hero despite the horrid things they did (Master Eraqus, Kingdom Hearts). I’ve come to call this archetype the “White Hat” because guess why, except now I kinda also use that as a blanket term for any type of villain who hits the Lawful corner and uses conservative politics to spread bigotry and obtain money. Actual enjoyable examples of this are Jacques Schnee (RWBY) and the entire villain cast of Tales of Berseria. But where I might be okay watching Jerome Valeska shove a bunch of people off a roof to spell out the name of his faction and get news media, including one extra because he wanted an exclamation mark, and even find this darkly delicious, on the other hand, I’ll look at an essentially kid-friendly character like Eraqus and see how he got in a swordfight with his son over disobedience in the name of doing what was actually right, and how his arc ended in him being martyred and fought for, and THAT is gross to me. But other people interpret his arc as not so dissonant, and that’s okay too. We all have different lines in the sand.
But I definitely agree it’s worth the time to see what makes villains tick! That’s why I write so many fanfics about villains. Snatcher in particular, I did “Of Hats, Rats, and Mechanical Doohickeys” (shameless self-advertising!) because I wanted to figure out what collusion of factors could have forged into his philosophy, and when I hit upon some ideas about Eggs’ dad and put together some throwaway moments from the film that seemed to make more sense if those two knew each other, boom, I had a fic that required writing. TBTC exists because I have this fundamental need to know what villains are like when off the clock. Can they make villain buddies? Can they fall in love? Do they do weird stuff like karaoke night? What would my faves think if they traded stories with each other? What would happen if they teamed up and we saw the adventure from THEIR point of view? And then the multitude of shipfics I have of villains (or at the very least good-aligned criminals) because I love the freedom that comes with writing characters who just go against the law as well as exploring what it’s like to have romance on that setting. Writing villains is one of my favorite things - I don’t really like to make them more redeemable, but I do like to see if behind the curtain, they could be PEOPLE who are occasionally dorks.
I’d be interested, if you ever wanted to share, in what your take is on Snatcher and, as you said, “why he’s like this and who he might be when no one’s looking.”

Dark Places Section Three
Libby Day (Now) - Libby Day (Now) (approx pages 246-345)
1. What kind of place does Runner live in? What does he tell Libby happened the night of the murders? He lives in an industrial sized mixing vat on the edge of an abandoned government project. It's a toxic waste dump that's basically filled with aresenic. So, yeah, now he lives there. And he tells Libby that he thinks Trey helped Ben murder his family. He says that Trey was a bookie looking for his money and since Ben was with Trey that day, he thinks they went to the Day house looking for money and, when they couldn't get it, murdered the whole family. And Runner also tells Libby about Diondra's pregnancy and that he thinks they might've killed her as well.
2. When Patty goes in Ben’s room, what does she find under his bed? What does she do with it? She finds all the little girl underclothes that Ben bought for the baby. And since they are in such varying sizes, Patty just assumes these are the underwear from all of his "victims" that he kept. At this point, she just assumes everything she heard at the Cates house is true. And because she doesn't want the police to find everything, if it is true, she burns all of the underthings in the fireplace.
3. What did Trey and Diondra take Ben to do? Why was he afraid to take the first swing? They took him out to kill a cow. But first they did some prayer thing to the devil and then Diondra went first and started stabbing the cow. Then Trey started in with his axe. But Ben just stood there, watching. He didn't want to join in because he didn't know what it would feel like. Because, he figured, it would be like all the other things he'd tried: weed, alcohol. He knew if he got a taste for killing, he wouldn't be able to stop. So he didn't want to start. But he did. Eventually, he did join in and help.
4. What did Lyle tell Libby about his past that he hadn’t told anyone else? The fires in California in 1999 were started by him. He was a kid, out playing in the woods behind his house. And he was playing with a lighter, just trying to see how close he had to get to light the foxtails on fire. And then he looked back and everything behind him was burning. And it was so windy that it was blowing the fire to other parts of the forest until, suddenly everything was on fire. And he tells Libby because that's what drew him to her story. He thought she might've been like him. Just a kid who made a mistake but whose actions had big consequences.
5. Who is Polly Palm? Who is Crystal? Polly Palm is Diondra. Back when the murders occurred, she used to use her "stripper" name (the name of her childhood pet + the street she grew up on) whenever she ran away from her parents and needed a different name. Well, she was reported missing shortly after the murders and she's been using that name since, living in hiding. So that's the name she's using when Libby tracks her down. And Crystal is the baby she was pregnant with when the murders happened/when she disappeared. Crystal is Ben's daughter, Libby's niece.
6. Why did Ben and Diondra come back to Ben’s house to get money? Who was in the doorway of Ben’s room listening, and what did this person hear? There were a bunch of messages on Diondra's answering machine about Ben molesting little girls and when Diondra heard them, she assumed Ben was going to be arrested and didn't want him to wait around for that to happen. So she decided they were going to run away. She said she still has $200 but they'll need more if they're going to disappear. So Ben says he has some money he's been saving and he says his mom always has a couple hundred hidden somewhere around the house. So they go back to the house to look for money and while they're looking, Michelle is waiting outside the door. She overhears that Diondra is pregnant and says she's going to tell their mom. Diondra chases her down and strangles her. And Ben literally just stands there watching??? He halfheartedly tries to stop her but then he just ends up standing there, with his hand on her shoulder, while she murders his sister. WHAT????
7. What do we learn Patty did to help with finances for Ben? So to help save her family and her farm, Patty hired the Angel of Debt to murder her so he kids could collect the insurance money and, if Ben was arrested for the molestation, legal costs. But it all went horribly wrong. When Diondra was strangling Michelle, Debby went looking for her mom to get help but instead found her mom being murdered. And the Angel of Debt had made it clear that no one else could see his face so he picked up an axe and started hacking at Michelle. Then he found the already loaded shotgun because he thought that would be easier and came back and shot Patty. After he left, Diondra decided to "help" (or something? I still have no idea what she thought she was accomplishing) and she drew all the Satanic stuff on the walls and threw food around and it was her footprint they found (she had giant feet and wore men's shoes) and her blood on Michelle's sheets (finally the DNA evidence everyone wanted!). And she told Ben to go look for Libby (so it was Ben's voice she heard) and bring her inside so they coULD KILL HER TOO so then Ben would be a victim and everyone would forget the molestation thing and he could collect the insurance money all by himself and he could take care of his family. Instead he went out, saw Libby and yelled for her to stay where she was (great plan since it was FREEZING) and went back to help Diondra and also erase any evidence of her being there (he went around and wiped up footprints and her fingerprints). So, basically not what Patty had planned to help her family out AT ALL.
8. What did you think of the ending of this book? Did you see it coming? How do you like this book in comparison to one of our previous reads, Gone Girl? I honestly absolutely hated the ending of this book. I thought it was stupid. Hiring a hit man to kill you so your family can collect the insurance money and then leaving your sister to pay to raise your four children is a stupid, cowardly way out. And Ben standing by and watching his crazy girlfriend murder his sister, DOING NOTHING TO STOP HER, and then going to prison for her and protecting her for 25 years is equally stupid. So I hated the ending and it honestly made me hate the rest of the book as well (though I was getting there on my own with how poorly paced the middle was). And compared to Gone Girl, I liked this one a sliver more. I don't flat out hate it, the way I do with Gone Girl. This book had exactly one redeeming quality for me that puts it a notch above Gone Girl: I didn't guess the ending in exactly five minutes so that was, at least, better. But, honestly, Gillian Flynn mysteries are just not for me. I still kind of want to read Sharp Objects just to be absolutely sure (and because I really want to watch the show) but if that one also falls flat, then I'm done. I just can't do popular mysteries. I really can't. They're all so, so unbelievably bad. *curls up with an Agatha Christie to set the world right again*

  Section Three Reading Journal
*sigh* So as you can see, I hated this book. And I’m honestly really annoyed that that ended up being the case because I really was liking it at the beginning. But then the horrible pacing happened. And then, the worst ending OF ALL TIME. (That’s not true. Please see my review of Little Disasters on Goodreads for that gem.)
Anyway, I can’t begin to even tell you all the ways this book made me mad. Because there are so. many. A few of them I’ve already detailed but that might take more explanation.
So. The one thing I did actually like about this book is that I didn’t flat out guess the ending from the beginning. I thought it was weird that Michelle was strangled and the other two were more ~connected. But I didn’t immediately guess that there were multiple killers. I did catch the Angel of Debt at the beginning though and put that together with Patty when the foreclosure happened. And I guessed Diondra killed Michelle pretty early on. (Though for quite a while, I honestly thought she killed them all.) But Debby was the one I could never make fit. So, for that tiny little mystery, I do give this book some credit.
Not that I liked any of it. I honestly don’t know how a book could take characters that I didn’t really ~like but, at least, didn’t mind (though Patty I did actually like until the end) and make me flat out hate every single one of them in the span of about 30 pages. Because all of their motives were absolute crap and they were all so fantastically weak. And I literally wanted to just Silver Linings Playbook style chuck this book right out the window.
But let’s break this down. Patty is about to lost everything and instead of sticking around and figuring it out (she had a sister who loved her and would’ve helped her get back on her feet, I guarantee it), she decided to just die and leave her kids to be raised by someone else. As any good mother should. Ben hated his little sister but also seemed to hate his girlfriend (he said himself that if he would’ve run away with her, he probably would’ve killed her when she got on his nerves) and his future child, who he never even wanted, but stands by and allows his crazy girlfriend to kill his sister and then protects her in prison. Because that seems normal. (And even though he wasn’t a molester, he definitely was a pedophile and I hated how the book pretty much glossed over that???? Straight up making out with an 11 year old and getting off on it is not normal. That’s Cement Garden territory.)
Then that brings us to Libby. Because I could’ve almost forgiven all of her quirks and how she just allowed herself to be the victim for her entire life and never even try to move on or care about anything more than money. But then she forgave her niece. I’m sorry. SHE TRIED TO KILL YOU. And you knew her, what, ten minutes before that? And had a family bond with her already? Crystal was raised by an actual psychopath. That messes a kid up. But, instead, she’s just going to let her go. I’m not saying Crystal needs to be in jail (that’s more Diondra, not as much Crystal) but I’m saying she could probably use a lot of therapy to undo all the damage done by her mother and by letting her off the hook, Libby is basically saying that her behavior and her mother’s teachings are alright. And they’re not. So what’s going to stop Crystal from becoming her mother in the future? And possibly also becoming a murderer.
So. Short story about how I flat out hated every character when I finished this book all because of the ending. And toward the end of section two/the beginning of this section this book honestly got pretty hard to read. Because I was bored. The pacing in this book was absolutely terrible and so much of it was unnecessary. A good mystery is short and to the point with the mystery buried in the details, not under a pile of crap that you hope distracts the reader (or bores them) enough to not catch on. And Gillian Flynn has never really learned how to do that. But, then again, the people who have made popular mysteries bestsellers seem to not have noticed that. Probably because the best written mysteries are not popular. And that’s honestly sad to me.
Anyway, if this movie is still streaming somewhere I’ll probably watch it. Because I really do like the cast. (Hi, I watched the first season of Good Girls and I love Christina Hendricks and I watch to watch all the things she’s in now so THAT’S WHAT I’M HERE FOR.) And I’m kind of hoping the movie cleans up this mess of a story. Though, honestly, there’s no fixing that ending. *sigh* So, if I do end up watching it, I’ll be sure to write a review here.
But, now, I’m going to read something I actually like. And I’m so, so glad this book is finally over so I can be on to other things. It’s been a rough few days.

1. What season did you start watching Supernatural?
Season 1, back when they were babies ;u; I stopped around season 3-ish and then restarted it when I caught the episode where Cas entered the show. After that I went back to see what I’d missed and became way too addicted.
2. Who was the first character you fell in love with?
Dean. His shit eating grin caught my heart like a flytrap.
3. Who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love?
Meg. Meg 1.0 was such an asshole (even tho I loved her style and thought the actress was super pretty) but then came Meg 2.0 being damaged and deep and calling Cas a unicorn and I just ;_;
4. Which character would you most want to be in a long - term relationship with?
Cas. He’d be the best hubbie. He’d probably bring me honey and plant flowers that attract bees in our yard and try to make my favorite dishes. He’d suck at cooking at first but then read 50 books about it and become the best and I’d egg him on and be his #1 supporter in everything. I’d crack “he’s such an angel” jokes all day and die a little each time he smiled.
5. If you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose?
Dean “best night of my life” Winchester.
6. What would you do on this date?
We’d go to the movies, probably for Guardians of The Galaxy or Wonder Woman, eat a bunch of junk food (and actually watch the movie cus we’re both too nerdy to miss it). Our cheeks would hurt from giggling all night at stupid puns. When he dropped me off, before we left the Impala, I’d lean in and kiss him- and then invite him in with a cheeky grin :P
7. Which character would you most want to be like?
Charlie. She’s so awesome and I want her tech skills ;u;
8. Which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead
^^^^^^^ CHARLIE ^^^^^^ (still not over it)
9. Which character would you most like to punch?
Tony freaking Bevell. Ugh. She deserves it.
10. Who is your absolute favorite character?
All of TFW. But with a special spot in my heart for Cas, let’s be honest.
11. Which “Big Bad” do you think was the worst?
Lucifer, I guess, since he started EVERYTHING. Everything bad that happened in the show began with him. The worst villains for me were Azazel and Alistair + the whole Apocalypse arc but it was caused by Lucifer.
12. Which character are you most like?
I think I’m a mix of Donna (with the cheeriness and trying to be optimistic  even when you’re dying inside) and also Charlie (with the tech geekiness, fandom nerdiness and the LARPing).
13. What death hit you the hardest?
Cas, when he walked into the lake, cus I really feared he wouldn’t come back (and maybe Misha wasn’t even supposed to come back but did just because of all the fan uproar that was created at the time).
14. What season finale hit you the hardest?
Swan Song, man. Swan Song. But Sacrifice is right up there too.
15. What are your ten all - time favorite episodes?
Honestly it’s hard to pick just 10 (so i didnt) but here are some of my favs:
The Man Who Would Be King (6.20) Swan Song (5.22) Baby (11.04) Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets (12.10) The End (5.04) A Little Slice of Kevin (8.07) Hunteri Heroici (8.08) Changing Channels (5.08) Sacrifice (8.23) Free To Be You And Me (5.03) Survival of the Fittest (7.23) Lazarus Rising (4.01)
Can you tell I’m destiel trash? ^^’‘
16. What’s been your favorite season?
Season 5? Idk, tbh. There are always good and bad eps.
17. Who is your favorite angel?
Aside from the obvious (Cas) it’s Gabeee!! (and also Balti aaa)
18. Who’s your favorite demon?
Crowley
19. Who’s your favorite evil character?
Rowena all the wayyyy
20. Do you have any Supernatural ships?
ALL OF THEM. Destiel is the OTP though
21. Who’s your favorite supporting actor?
Ruth Connell! SHE’S SO FUCKIN PRECIOUS i wanna hug her silly ;u;
22. What’s your favorite quote from the show?
"How important is lipstick to you, Dean?”
23. If you could cast one famous actor in an episode of SPN, who would you chose?
Lin Manuel Miranda as actual Hamilton in a AU time-traveling episode.
24. If you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included?
Sasquatch. Dean would make jokes about it being Sam in disguise the entire time and Sam would have his Bitchface on at all times. Cas doesn’t understand and reassures Dean that his brother is fully human.
25. Who’s your favorite girl that Dean’s hooked up with?
Rhonda Hurley. Bless her for the best canon ever #pantykink
26. Who’s your favorite girl that Sam’s hooked up with?
Jess ;;_;;
27. What are some of your favorite convention moments?
The entire resume-off (”as long as the animal is asleep”); “What’s it like being REALLY attractive?” Jensen replies, very seriously, “I should probably take this one”; “Would you just drink your fucking water”; the “Influence”; Jensen singing; Jared stopping all the trains; Misha’s deadly fart; every time Dmitri crashes a panel and Jensen does his unicorn laugh and of course... ROARING. NESNEJ.
28. If you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on SPN, how would you want your character described?
I’d be Diana, the actual goddess. TERRIFYING, POWERF- “Wait, why is she petting every animal she sees? Sammy, I don’t think this is our big baddie...”
29. What do you hope to see in the next season?
AU Castiel, Dean pining and suffering and BEING HONEST ABOUT IT, Jack actually being a good guy or at least redeeming himself (unlikely, but a girl can hope), Castiel coming back, Destiel hug, Mary coming back and finally doing right by her boys, SAMMY BEING A LEADER!!!
DEAN AND CAS KISSING AND DECLARING THEIR ETERNAL LOVE
30-40. If you had to choose…
Bobby or John? Bobby
Bela or Ruby? Ruby
Jess or Madison? Jess
Jo or Lisa? Jo
Charlie or Kevin? Charlie
Balthazar or Ash? Balthazar
Cas or Crowley Cas
Ben or Claire? Claire
Jody or Donna? Jody
Sam or Dean? Dean
Tagging: (if y’all wanna do it, of course)
@jimminovak, @royalrowena, @hangsabove, @beekeepercain @prayforjensen, @godstiel-collins and anyone else who fancies it

(okay i’ve been asked basically every number for the salt asks so I’m just going to answer them all here (for acotar, with some ToGs where requested. U can send more for other fandoms but this just seems easier than answering 6 separate asks soooo)
Under a cut for length
1)- What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
answered.
2)- Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
Azlain, which I think I’ve mentioned before. I’m pretty sure that’s the only popular one, I ship everything else.
3)- Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Errmm, if they tag things properly and I can avoid them then no? But if they don’t and they just flood my dash with it I have just....Nope I love myself too much for this haha.
4)- Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
I suppose Elr*el is the closest thing I have to a notp? Which is quite sad because I adore them both and they have a really sweet relationship I just...Can’t with the fandom.
5)- Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
See above.
6)- *Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
Hmmmmm. No I don’t think so actually?? I don’t actually really hate anything pairing wise, except...the above and feyl*n but...fandom doesn’t really push for them so? I don’t think there was anything in ToG either, I either always liked it or always hated it and never changed?
7)- Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
Errmmmm. Can I say Nesta’s relationship with her father?? This isn’t a fandom thing but like...I have some massive, massive issues with the way ACOWAR ended for that. He neglected them for years; he let her mother die and did nothing, she had every right to hate him and be furious with him. He pushed a young teenage girl into wanting to starve herself just to see if he might actually try and do something to stop that from happening. The emotional guilt-trip at the end for Nesta where her father dies is just...Gross, honestly. If Nesta’s arc is learning to be softer and more loving and warm because she regrets how she treated her father all those years because she realises that he ~truly did love her~ I will burn this world to the ground because no.
Also, Mor’s entire....Everything. (Not HER but her storyline/narrative arc is just. I can’t)
8)- Have you received anon hate? What about?*
I don’t think so?? I’ve had people disagree with me and argue with me a bit and stuff but I don’t think I’ve ever classed anything as just empty hate??  9)- Most disliked character(s)? Why?
answered, somewhere.  10)-*Most disliked arc? Why?
Answered for ACOTAR.
For ToG...Actually I think I might say Dorian’s. And also Manon’s. Dorian got seriously fucked over in E0S I think? I think everyone was expecting him to sort of, struggle to rule his people and take over from his father and then it just sort of...Oops your kingdom is gone just like that, we’re not going to fight for it or anything because we need you to join adventure squad. It just felt overly convenient if I’m being generous and flat out lazy if I’m not.  11)- Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
answered.  12)- Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
In ACOTAR I don’t think so? (Unless you count Nesta’s ACOTAR arc. I think Claire mentioned this earlier and I agree, I thought it was well done and considered her ‘redeemed’ or rather ‘properly understood’ by the middle of ACOTAR but most people still wanted her to apologise or whatever. Though apparently Eris doesn’t need to apologise for abusing Mor or Lucien he just has to say she ~doesn’t understand~ and we all leap all over him to give him a second chance. What a delightful double standard.
In ToG: Chaol’s. This is one of the rare things I’ll argue with fandom about. (Though it is highly dependent on how ToD plays out) but I liked his QoS storyline, I liked the way it ended, I liked what it potentially sets up for his character and I think the decision to cut him out of EoS was the right one because geographically, tonally, in pretty much every which way - it doesn’t fit.  13)- *Unpopular opinion about XXX character?
someone actually asked for this one so please message me again with characters and I’ll answer them separately!  14)- Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
answered (I think I’ve fucked up the numbering somehow but ACH WELL)  15)- Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
I mean..There are a fair few flying around?? Mostly ACOWAR related, most of them Mor related (though I’m not sure if that’s unpopular, fandom seems to be at a kind of 50/50 split with this)  16)- If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
answered.
17)- Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
Mor is not closeted and miserable af. She is happily out to her Inner Circle family who love and support her and help protect the knowledge from Keir (Rhys and his family hid an entire fucking CITY from the entire world for 5,000 years, you’re telling me he couldn’t have found a way to keep Keir and co from ever learning about Mor’s sexuality?) Mor has an adorable girlfriend, Moriel has only ever been platonic since they were teenagers, she Cass and Az still deeply love each other but everyone is happy and comfortable and safe in the relationship. All is well.  18)- Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?
No??? Or at least not for me. I think there’s a misconception (at least in this fandom) about what the intention of shipping is (or at least why I (and most of the people I know)) do it. I’m not placing bets on what I think is going to be canon? I’m not arguing that this ship is more valid than that one/more likely to happen. I’m saying that this dynamic intrigues me. I want to explore it. I want to create content for it. I want to read canon content for it, even if it’s just a random conversation that takes place over two pages and that’s it. I don’t ship based on what will happen, or even sometimes what I’d like to happen, I ship because it interests me. And if something doesn’t interest me or sink its claws into my imagination it doesn’t matter if it’s popular and it doesn’t make me in denial or biased it just...makes me not interested??
19)- What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
answered  20)- What is the purest ship in the fandom?
I agree with Claire, Mor/Elain is so Good and Pure. Also (platonic) Nesta/Azriel, I love that thing. Actually platonic Azriel/anyone really, it’s just Good.  21)- What are your thoughts on crack ships?
G I M M E  22)- *Popular character you hate?
ACOTAR - we are not going through this again.
ToG- errmmm....None of them? I’m not a fan of Lorcan but that’s largely in the context of E/orcan I don’t technically mind him on his own, he’s interesting, and completely and utterly fucked up which is also interesting...He just isn’t good enough for my darling Slytherin witchling but that’s the only big problem I have.  23)- Unpopular character you love?
answered (for both)  24)- Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?
ACOTAR - yes if they stop reading after ACOMAF and just...invent their own ending for the series. Or...Look ACOWAR was a goddamn mess I have to do some musing on whether it’s worth it as a whole for ACOMAF. If i ever did recommend it’d be with a heaping shovel-full of salt and some warnings.  25)- How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?
ACOTAR - OOH. INTERESTING. I actually don’t mind the open-ending? I was anticipating it. ACOWAR has been set up for a while now as the conclusion to Feyre and Rhys’ story and the conclusion of their story only. I don’t mind that the others were unfinished because they were never meant to be.
I think I might liked for more to have actually changed though? I mean.We had this huge near-world ending war and...Everyone just kinda went back to their day jobs as though it was a few months long nightmare and that was it? I’d have liked it to be a bit more radical and lasting and to actually mean something. There didn’t really feel like that many consequences on the whole, idk, that made it feel a bit flat.   26)- Most shippable character?
Most of them tbh. But I agree with Claire on this one too, every Lucien ship is Good, very, very, very Good. Give me them all.  27)- *Least shippable character?
I’m usually happy to leave Feyre and Rhys to their own devices. But apart from them I really struggle with Az? Like I have tried to nudge him into other ships, believe me I’ve tried, but he’s having none of it.
For ToG....I’m not sure?? I haven’t really crackshipped as much but maybe Lysandra? I don’t really want her with anyone at the moment

Rebecca White: A Bexit Story
Faith Dingle recently responded to Sarah regarding sarcasm, “It is the lowest form of wit.” Only she left off the rest of Oscar Wilde’s quote, “but the highest form of intelligence.”
I’m not claiming to be an intelligent individual, and while sarcasm is an unkind type of humour it is one of the way I find myself communicating lately when it comes to Iain MacLeod and the characters Robert and Aaron.
Disclaimer: I do NOT hate Iain MacLeod. As the showrunner for Emmerdale, he has a responsibility for the lives of fifty or so fictitious characters. He cannot devote his career to any one person (Aaron or Robert or even Rebecca) or couple (Robert & Aaron) that reside in Emmerdale. On the other side, he cannot ensure any one person (ME) or faction with the viewing audience will always be happy with his decisions.
More importantly, he has an awesome responsibility to ensure Emmerdale is successful, not only for his own personal and financial wellbeing, but that of the entire production staff. My snarky and sometimes bitter commentary aside, I do NOT believe he is actively trying to destroy any characters, couples, or the show itself.
In prior posts I made comments about Iain MacLeod and the production staff’s failure of bringing the character Rebecca White to life. Setting aside my sarcastic and bitter personal opinions of why he felt the need to defend her, I revisited the article titled “Emmerdale Boss Defends Rebecca White Over Robron Chaos: “I Feel Sorry For Her.”
Now, with this post I will explain my critical reasoning and analysis as a viewer as to my opinion on why I find her character development a failure, why I do not sympathize with her or even find her remotely redeemable.
From the article:
He explained: ‘I feel a bit sorry for Rebecca and I might be in the minority there, but if you examine what’s gone on in her life and put aside for a moment that we all love Aaron to the point where we just want to squeeze him and think about Rebecca’s story…
‘She met Robert some years ago, before he’d met Aaron, fell in love with him, he got her pregnant, forced her into an abortion, he dumped her and married her sister, then he tricked her to Emmerdale and led her into believing there was hope for them when there wasn’t, got her pregnant again, she tried to move on with her life with Ross and just at the point she was doing that Robert got drunk, rang her up and seduced her again. Objectively speaking Robert’s put her through the mill, badly!’
Read more: http://metro.co.uk/2017/04/28/emmerdale-boss-defends-rebecca-white-over-robron-chaos-i-feel-sorry-for-her-6602256/#ixzz4fhvYxynt
Notwithstanding my snarky comment about his “revisionist” history of Rebecca White, I would hope that it was unintended at the press event. Again, Iain MacLeod is responsible for upwards of fifty characters in the Emmerdale universe and it should not be expected for him to know and recite all of the finite details of all of them individually, including the ones he introduced.
Saying that, I do want to correct the order of events he provided and supply additional details on the potential inconsistency and evolution of Robert and Rebecca’s relationship to support the “revisionist” direction their story has taken recently on screen.
The Robert & Rebecca Backstory as told through conversations:
Lawrence was the one who brought Robert into his daughter’s lives by choosing to employ him (25-October-2016 Lachlyn confronts Rebecca about having an affair with Robert while he was engaged to his mother. Her response, “He used me”. Lachlyn outs the affair spectacularly in the Woolpack.)
Robert met Rebecca at a garden party when he came onto her behind her boyfriend’s back (Robert and Rebecca’s discussion from 16-March-2017 episode)
Robert forced Rebecca to have an abortion to cover his mistake and make sure Chrissie doesn’t find out, not wanting it to ruining his plans. (11-April-2017 Robert/Rebecca conversation in the Mill)
Robert convinced Rebecca if he was to get her pregnant again, they would be together and start a family (12-Apr-2017 Robert/Rebecca conversation outside the clinic)
Robert explains when question by Rebecca he chose Chrissie because “she always seemed to get her own way” after it was revealed Robert was over 4 hours late to Chrissie’s birthday party where she was going to show off her new toy (him) because he had been with Rebecca in a hotel room (15-Nov-2016 Robert/Rebecca conversation in Woolie backroom)
Robert convinces Rebecca into coming to Emmerdale under guise Chrissie had Lawrence’s will changed and then he got shot (11-October-2016 conversation in Woolie vestibule) Robert bringing Rebecca to Emmerdale was to exonerate Andy. (12-October-2016 Aaron/Robert conversation in back room)
Actual Onscreen Evolution of Robert/Rebecca’s relationship:
[While Robert strings Rebecca along dangling the possibility of a relationship with her, he also rejects her advances professing his love for Aaron from arrival to end of November. It’s not necessary to cover each individual incident, only those that have bearing on the current situation]
15-November-2016 Robert stops a kiss initiated by Rebecca. He states “Now is not the time”.
29-November-2016 Rebecca blackmails Robert to help with plan to break Lachlyn out of custody at court by threatening to tell Aaron about their kiss. After he backs out, he admits to her he used her to help Andy. He proved his point that he could have had her at any time after leaning in to kiss her only to stop suddenly when she started to accept his advance. He reiterates his love for Aaron and when she asks, “You and me, it’s over then?” He honestly tells her it never even started. Later, Chrissie consoles a heartbroken Rebecca in the Home Farm office. Her response to Chrissie, “He let me down” and then later “He was using me.”
30-November-2016 Rebecca betrays her promise to Robert telling Aaron about the kiss. Aaron lies to Rebecca telling her he already knew, that Robert told him. During this conversation Aaron told her she had been “played” by Robert.
[December 2016-March 2017:  Rebecca admits she has accepted she will never be Robert’s other half, accepting the role of friend instead. She also plays nice appearing friendly to Aaron and Liv. Rebecca begins a relationship with Ross.]
16-March-2017 Robert tells Rebecca he doesn’t know how much more he can take after not being able to see Aaron and not knowing the reason why
16-March-2017 While meeting Ross for a date, Rebecca overhears Adam tell Vic he threw him out of the Mill. Later, she receives the text from Robert “Are you around anywhere?” She lies to Ross making her exit to see him at the Mill. She listens to her drunk “friend” and attempts to convince him not to give up on Aaron.
Robert: Why are you here?
Rebecca: You texted me.
Robert: I didn’t expect you’d come.
Rebecca: Yes, you did.
And then he attempts to seduce her again getting knocked back two times before she finally gives in to his advances.
17-March-2017 Rebecca is non-committed to any of Ross’s date ideas after she left Robert the voicemail. Ross ditches Rebecca in an attempt to save face.
17-March-2017 When Robert comes clean with her about the previous evening being a mistake. Her response is “You used me.” She complains about how cheap he made her feel. After asking to spare Aaron the details, she doesn’t have a problem telling anyone.
17-March-2017 When Chas later confronts her in the Home Farm office, “I bet you thought Christmas had come early when Aaron got sent down. Didn’t you, because you could finally get your claws into Robert.” Rebecca response “He used me.” with Chas’ rebuttal “He used you because you let him!”
21-March-2017 She blames Robert for the deed, telling Robert she felt she betrayed her friend Aaron a nice guy. Rebecca promises Robert she won’t tell anyone about their one-night stand because she “hardly comes out good in this.” Before leaving she says, “I can’t believe I let you take advantage of me.”
21-March-2017 Rebecca talks with Ross. Later they enter the Woolpack being all flirty talking about “working up quite an appetite.” She plants a kiss on Ross, then watches as Robert walks out.
6-April-2017 Rebecca takes a home pregnancy test which comes back positive. She seems visibly upset about the results.
10-April-2017 Rebecca tells Robert he is the father after confronting her about her pregnancy.
11-April-2017 Robert confronts Rebecca demanding she get an abortion. We get part of the backstory of the previous abortion. Later during the argument, after Robert told Rebecca her keeping the baby would not cause him to fall in love with her, she stated “Get over yourself. I don’t want you back.” His response, “Back? You make it sound like we had a relationship, which we never did. The only time I ever slept with you was when something went wrong with my life or I was bored.”
12-April-2017 Outside the abortion clinic, Rebecca states she has to wait one month before she can proceed with the abortion. Robert apologized forcing Rebecca to get another abortion, with her stating he had said the same thing the last time. She followed this up with “It wasn’t the right time for us, but maybe in the future. Do you remember? You actually convinced me that if it was to happen again (the pregnancy), we would be together and starting a family.” to which Robert agreed saying he meant it at the time.
12-April-2017 After seeing Robert/Rebecca outside the clinic arguing, Ross breaks it off with Rebecca stating “Never looking for anything serious, just a bit of fun, and this has stopped being.”
13-April-2017 Robert leaves the voicemail for Rebecca telling her to sort out Ross and his blackmailing him over the pregnancy.
Why do I feel Rebecca’s character development a failure? I started saying I’m not claiming to be an intelligent person, but I do not think I’m so obtuse that after 7 months I wouldn’t understand her as character or question her character motives.
Before the 29-November-2016 episode where Rebecca blackmailed Robert, I believed she was a free spirited woman madly in love with Robert Sugden. Her love was so deep, that she was comfortable to wait until Robert finally chose her. Her many attempts to seduce him while he led her to believe they could have a future failing but not discouraging her from her goal.
During the 29 & 30 -November-2016 episode, she was a woman comfortable blackmailing the man she loved, then struggling to accept his motivation when the plan/blackmail fail, to a vindictive woman scorned as she outed the kiss to Aaron (revenge plan with Chrissie) and finally appearing unstable and slightly delusional about Robert’s feelings for her when she says “No, he wanted me.” then Aaron throws it back in her face with “He was using you. Get over yourself. He did!”
December 2016- 15-March 2017:  Mostly, Rebecca appears to be a self-confident and balance woman wanting to be friends with Robert, Aaron and Liv. She admits she still loves Robert openly to both Robert and Aaron, but accepts she won’t have him and “moves on with Ross”. I say mostly, because there are a few scenes scattered about where she appears questionable in her motivations.
Her friendship with Robert and Aaron nothing more than a disguise while she plays innocent for whatever motivates her. Is she purposely feeding into Aaron’s insecurities by running to Robert her friend for help? Is she playing on Aaron’s insecurities in an attempt to drive a wedge between Robert and him? Is she waiting for a moment she can exact revenge on the pair for Robert using her and Aaron getting the man she wanted?
16-March-2017 I do NOT believe she was innocently seduced by Robert at the end of this episode, regardless of what she says in all of the episodes after this one.
Knowing Robert was struggling with the situation with Aaron and Liv, as soon as he texted she lied to and ditched the man she was moving on with (using until Robert was in a position that she might have a chance with now that Aaron was potentially out of the picture). She rushed to the man she has pined after for years, playing the friend card only to determine where Robert’s frame of mind was. Believing she has a chance now that Aaron is out of the picture, she gives Robert the idea she is available for him by flirting and suggestively saying “Yes you did” when he states he didn’t think she would come when he texted. Robert takes the bait making several attempts to get with her all the while he disparages what he had/has with Aaron. She continues to knock him back as she prompts him to say what she has wanted to hear since arriving in Emmerdale (Chrissie was a mistake, Aaron and him are over, they should make a go of it, etc). She “lets” herself be taken advantage of ignoring the RED FLAG in his response of “Stop trying to” when asking him if she can trust him.
Rebecca is now a calculating vixen who was playing the long game in her effort to finally get Robert.
After the 17 & 21-March-2017 episodes we now have a woman who was delusional, vindictive, calculating that is comfortable playing the “He used me” card when things do not go her way, meaning Robert doesn’t choose her. (Her admission to both Lachlyn & Chrissie). She ignored the fact that Robert and Aaron both told her Robert was only using her since her arrival. Rebecca disregarded Robert lamenting about how everyone thinks he uses people tossing them aside. He suggests to her that maybe that is the way he should be.
After episodes leading up to and including the 12-April-2017 episode Rebecca becomes a calculating woman so delusional and desperate in her love of Robert Sugden, part of the long game outlined previously to get Robert includes her trapping him with a pregnancy that promised her a future together by starting a family.
*As a man not intimately knowledgeable, I am aware of a woman’s cycle from just basic health education and would think Rebecca would be also.
The backstory revealed in April 2017 changes the narrative how Robert Sugden became involved with the Whites, and his originally having a relationship with Rebecca before Chrissie unknown to the White clan.
I wholeheartedly agree with Iain MacLeod that Rebecca’s story is tragic. But, Robert admitting that he has used her and apologizing to her several times before the one-night stand shows he took some responsibility for his actions. Rebecca has not.
But who is Rebecca White?
Is she the strong independent woman who arrived in Emmerdale because the man she has carried a torch for years contacted her?
Or, is she a woman so in love with someone she allowed herself to be victimized accepting whatever scraps of attention Robert gives her while repeatedly being used and rejected by him as their backstory is laid out?
Or, is she a woman so obsessed with loving a man that she has become mentally unstable to the point she is desperate and calculating? She will take whatever steps necessary to trap him in a relationship (playing innocent and allowing herself to be seduced when the opposite is true in the hopes she would get pregnant).
Or is she a woman that is none or even a combination of all of the above?
Or, as Rebecca’s story continues to air with the potential for more revelations of her past is she someone entirely different?
The current pregnancy storyline Robert and Rebecca are in with the newly revealed backstory in April 2017 may have been intended to put a human face to Rebecca plight for the viewer to sympathize with her. The consequence of these added details though probably unintended paint a picture of Rebecca White that is not complimentary to the point I would offer she be put up for Villain of the Year.
We do not know who Rebecca White is. As new facets of her backstory were revealed (especially with the previous forced abortion) it brings into question her character and motivations since arriving in Emmerdale.
But maybe we should listen to Robert Sugden who knows her better than anyone with maybe the exception of her family. He said it himself about Rebecca White at the end of November, only he and Aaron didn’t heed his own prophetic warning.
Rebecca White is the “Bride of Chucky”.

2:18-25
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. 19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
[this is gonna take a couple posts...but i also couldn’t break up the train of thought, so here we go.]
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. 19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. [first off, most preachers i’ve heard consider “masters” of Bible times to be more-or-less equivalent to employers of today, though we’ve definitely got more freedom. it’s easy to be obedient to the good employers. it’s easy to be respectful to those who treat you with respect, dignity, good pay. but even if they’re a terrible employer and you’re searching for a job elsewhere, here we’re commanded to respect them. Peter acknowledges we may not have done anything to deserve this (”while suffering unjustly”), but that does not negate the command to be respectful. no bad-mouthing, backbiting, gossip, put-downs...in all ways, behave as if they were the perfect employer.
Matthew Henry has a good point: “The sinful misconduct of one relation does not justify the sinful behaviour of the other; the servant is bound to do his duty, though the master be sinfully froward and perverse.”
which, arguably, extends to working hard and well for that person. Colossians 3:17, i think, could be applied: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” this is what we were redeemed for.
For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. [man’s got a good point...]
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. [people want to be happy. they want to be successful. and we, in our humanity, feel like “happy” and “successful” do not go with “suffering.” but if we are Christians who walk boldly before God, if we can declare “I must serve God rather than man”, if our devotion to God truly sets us apart from other men, we’re going to suffer. the baker comes back to mind. last news story i heard about that family, their business was basically ruined by the fees they were required to pay. my brother’s in the Navy. he’s been singled out by some jerk of a dude, and the other men in his unit are baffled, because my brother is one of the most likable people you’re ever gonna meet. but my brother is a Christian, and the other man is not. my mother believes that’s the problem right there, that it’s a spiritual enmity.
so then, when we suffer, how are we to deal with it? how do we conduct ourselves so that we glorify God and do not sin?]
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
[first off, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.” miracles, claims of divinity, teaching that contradicted the established religious rulers of the day...and yet it was all accurate and true.  Numbers 23:19, “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” Titus 1:2, “in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began...”  there’s a couple other verses, but these are enough. Jesus Christ, being the Incarnate God, cannot lie. therefore, we will never find deceit in His mouth.
but besides being a perfect human, who never sinned, and a perfectly trustworthy God, Who never lies, Christ offers us a template for how to respond to persecution.
Matthew Henry says, “Our Blessed Redeemer was perfectly holy, and so free from sin that no temptation, no provocation whatsoever, could extort from him so much as the least sinful or indecent word. [2.] Provocations to sin can never justify the commission of it. The rudeness, cruelty, and injustice of enemies, will not justify Christians in reviling and revenge; the reasons for sin can never be so great, but we have always stronger reasons to avoid it.”
(i should get Mantis, which offers like four different commentators’ perspectives...Henry is great, but “in a multitude of counselors is much wisdom,” so...)
so. we then, having even less cause than Christ to be angry with persecution, should possess our souls in patience, should remain calm, gracious, loving, should remember the purpose of our suffering is our good and God’s eternal glory.
"when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.” this just Judge being God the Father, Who is perfect in power, knowledge, and love, and will vindicate our suffering, reward our patience, and deal with our enemies according to their merits.
and being a just Judge, God shows no favoritism. He will deal with everyone exactly as they deserve...which apart from Christ is by damning them to Hell. and being a just Judge, since Christ has already paid for our sins, God will not punish us twice. He will look at us and see the perfect sacrifice of Jesus and He will welcome us into eternal joy, as beloved children.
holy smokes, y’all, that’s amazing.]
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
[DO YOU SEE WHAT GOD HAS DONE. DO YOU SEE WHAT THE TRIUNE GOD DID FOR YOUR SOUL. THAT’S INCREDIBLE.
okay. it’s not just that He wipes out our sin. He doesn’t just erase the blackboard, as it were. no, He takes out the graffiti, the filthy words, the crude images, and He replaces it with artwork that surpasses da Vinci, Picasso, Monet.  that’s the brilliant thing about the Epistles; the apostles always write “stop doing these sins. INSTEAD do these things.”  i saw a post this year about Lent, that said it’s not always about giving something up, sometimes you can focus on adding something positive in. and while i don’t celebrate Lent, i like the idea.
but it should be a both-and. for instance (speaking quite personally), i’m going to focus on being less selfish overall, and i’m going to seek opportunities to serve my family in the ways that most please each family member. for my little brother, i’m going to work on paying more attention to him when he’s rambling about stuff. (epic fail yesterday; he was ranting about Women’s Day and i told him to shut up so i could focus on theology. the irony didn’t hit till today.) for my queen mother, cooking more often and heeding her advice would be a biggie. for my handsome father, i can serve him by cleaning the kitchen so he doesn’t have to. (because my father is the kind of selfless who’ll do the dishes at 10 pm rather than roust one of his lazy children.)
and can we talk about “by His wounds you have been healed”? because that’s such an incredible contradiction. how can causing one Person pain cause other people healing? because we’re talking about spiritual injuries and spiritual death. the wages of sin is death. sin must be dealt with and paid in blood. but the blood of animals is not worth as much as man’s, and killing a fellow sinner doesn’t negate my sin. how can it? he has his own sin to account for! But the death of a Perfect Man, Who has no sin to account for...the death of God, Who is infinite...that is enough to negate the sins of the entire universe and every human who’s ever lived.
and now we are restored to our God. now we are returned to the One Who watches over us, and Who lets nothing befall us but what is good for our souls.
i just...y’all. sometimes i just honestly cannot with God.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Tumblr media
So ... Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4881806/?ref_=nv_sr_1) coming in with an IMDB rating of 6,2 and a Redeemer Rating of 1,9. If I were to sum up this movie in as few words as possible, then it would be “oh come on”. What the hell is this crap. I mean, the first movie in a franchise should never be the best one. Especially not after 25 years. Special effects should have improved and somewhere down the line someone should have managed to write a reasonably good script. But in this thought I would be wrong. The first Jurassic movie is still by far the Best of the bunch. Jurassic two was ok, but three was complete crap. Then came Jurassic world, which was about on par with Jurassic Park 2. Then this turd rolled out and took the bottom spot away from the Third Park movie. Yes, this movie is actually worse than the movie where Alan Grant has a nightmare in which a Velociraptor calls to him. Now, let me tell you why this movie is so bad.
The plot. Like any follow up movie, the movie starts by creating a reason for getting the band back together again. The second Park movie grabbed Ian Malcolm by involving his girlfriend and creating a second island. Park 3 got Ian Grant to come back by tossing a child on one of the islands. Then the franchise tried a reboot with Jurassic World .. and for this one they needed to get Owen Grady back to the island. An erupting volcano and his raptor blue bring him back, on a mission to save as many dinosaurs as possible. Then the good guys turn out to be bad, and then turn out to be badder and badder. A new dinosaur is once again genetically manipulated. And this one is even better than the Indominous Rex, or whatever the hell that thing was called, but in that is also equally unlikely. I think the movie’s ending is supposed to be happy, but who can tell.
The movie. Ok, let us deal with the unlikely set of genetically manipulated qualities put into the Indoraptor. This dinosaur was genetically modified to have all the the little tricks and things that Grady had taught the raptors from when he raised and cared for the raptors in World 1. Basically the indoraptor was born fully schooled with taught traits from one of the dinosaurs DNA that was used in its creation. Now I am not any kind of geneticist, but I DOUBT IT. It also has a superior sense of smell to any animal in the world, except for when he needs to not be able to smell for the plot to advance. It is super smart, except for when the plot needs it to do something stupid. And then there is the last little thing that it can do. When someone is pointing a gun at someone, with a laser pointer .. instead of pulling the trigger, it can activate a sound that makes the dinosaur attack the person. Makes sense in a sort of wait no it doesn't kind of way. But the indoraptor was just one of many, MANY, antagonists this movie. We have the helper of Benjamin Lockwood, who of course turns out to be a sort of half inept evil mastermind. Lockwood by the way, being the former partner of John Hammond, but they had a falling out years ago .. before Jurassic Park. Their falling out was because Lockwood used the technology to create a clone of his daughter. Sure .. mix and matching old DNA with frog DNA was an advancement on cloning human beings. Sure .. ok. yeah, ok. NO. Just no. Let us also not forget Mr Eversoll .. the other half of the inept bad guy leader duo. I’m not sure what he has to do in the movie. And Dr Wu, who seems to have less and less morals with every passing movie. Oh and then an entire host of evil gangster and similarly morally dubious people who show up in the second half of the movie to buy dinosaurs. And I still haven't mentioned all the bad guys .. but I can't deal with anymore. I mean my god, this movie is just all over the place. The first half of the movie is just a pointless explosive CGI-fest. Just a collection of “there’s no way they can survive that” kind of situations. But all that unnecessary running around is just there to bring the dinosaurs back to the mainland. Some people die, and others don't. But who cares since no character is flushed out enough for anyone to care about. And then the second half of the movie is a mix between escaping the newest dinosaur and trying to thwart the bad guy’s plan of selling dinosaurs. This is two movies consistently struggling for position. They win and the viewers lose. I mean, maybe some of the CGI action is cool, some scenes are worthy of a chuckle .. but taken as a whole this movie really sucks.
The redeeming factor. Honestly, for me the redeeming factor is the volcanic eruption of Isla Nublar, at least I think it is Isla Nublar. And I don't mean that in the sense that the effects are really cool. They are all right. I mean that in the sense that destroying one of the islands of this fictional world makes it that much harder to make yet another shit sequel that will make money for some ungodly reason.
The final word. This movie is terrible. Don't watch it. Find Jurassic Park 1. Watch it again. Remember the feeling when dinosaurs came back into the world. When the story of the movie was good. When the actors did good work. When the characters were people that we cared for or hated or were annoyed by because that was what we were supposed to feel. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a terrible movie and should have all existing DVD copies of itself shipped directly to a landfill. It is garbage.
