a beginner’s guide to yoga
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🧘‍♀️ what is yoga?
putting it briefly, yoga is a mindfulness and spiritual practice that connects the mind, body, and breath through physical movement and poses called “asanas.”
🧘‍♀️ benefits of yoga
yoga has some incredible benefits for both the mind and body, including:
reducing mental stress and calming the mind
improving flexibility and mobility
working and strengthening even the small muscles in the body
improving circulation and heart health
allowing you to be present and mindful
improving balance and coordination
activating or calming the nervous system
reducing body pain
improving range of motion and joint health
🧘‍♀️ different types of yoga
there are many different types of yoga, each with their own unique benefits. here are just a few you may start with:
vinyasa
hatha
ashtanga
yin
restorative
🧘‍♀️ where do i start?
if you do not feel ready to go to a class or you do not have a studio near you, there are many classes you can follow on youtube! here are a few channels on youtube i really like:
akshaya agnes
boho beautiful yoga
charlie follows
gayatri yoga
jessica richburg
the glow method
yoga with kassandra
yoga with kate amber
🧘‍♀️ personal tips
start slow! i say this in all of my workout posts when i give advice, but i promise it is important. pushing yourself too far in the beginning will only injure you, so don’t be afraid to take it easy at first.
don’t judge yourself. it’s much easier said than done when you see people who have been practicing for years and seem like they can do everything, but everyone has things that they struggle with. i’ve been practicing yoga consistently for 5 years now and there are still things that i struggle with, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
going alone with the tip above, have a sense of humor about your journey. if you fall, it’s perfectly fine. it happens to the best of us! as long as you stay safe and get back up and keep trying, you’re doing great.
switch it up! as mentioned above, there are many types of yoga, and the ones i named are just a few. don’t be afraid to try different types! i used to hate yin because i found it even harder than the more flow-y sequences, but now it’s one of my favorites. it’s always good to get some variety in your practice and you may end up loving something you thought you would hate!

struggling to get through school?
Hi! I feel like it's been forever since I posted something, but I'm back! Lately, I've been struggling with my ed and school, and both are affecting the other. If you're dealing with the same thing, or something similar, you're not alone. Here are some things that may help :) Also- the first one is kind of related to restrictive eds. If you're experiencing a lack of energy not having to do with your food intake, I suggest that you either see a doctor or mental health professional.
Make sure you're eating enough protein. If you're not eating enough food as it is, you may feel like you can't focus as well, or you simply don't have the energy to study, do your work, or go to school, which is understandable. But please listen to me when I say protein is extremely important. According to Harvard, to calculate how much protein you need in a day, multiply your weight (in pounds) by 0.36. Here is the link to the article, which has a calculator you can use .
If you're worried about your grades, talk to your teachers/professors. Not all professors are the same, but if you're honest with them and spell out what's been going on (as much as you're comfortable with, of course), they may be able to help you, give you an extension, or some advice on their class.
Find study techniques that work for you. Not everyone has the same learning style, and not all methods of studying will work for you. I advise that you first find out what your learning style is if you don't already know. Then, you can research what may work for you as that kind of learner. However, if you have something else going on, that may not be enough. For example, I have adhd and have a hard time getting started with my work and staying motivated. Something like getting a planner, which may work for someone else, just doesn't cut it for me. Instead, I like to use asmr pomodoros and rewards for myself when I finish a certain amount of work, like doing something I've been wanting to do or watching a movie.
If you have trouble asking for help, like I do, I know it can be scary to send an email to your teacher, ask a friend, or even raise your hand in class to ask a question. But trust me, my grades started improving as soon as I did this. I know some of you may be thinking that your teacher will judge you, or your classmates will, but teaching is their job. They want students to ask questions, that's what they're there for. Your classmates could actually be wondering the same thing, they just might be too nervous to ask.
Try your best not to procrastinate. I know, I know. But hear me out. Procrastinating causes last minute stress and most likely isn't your best work. I'm not trying to call you out, because I do this too. But as I've gotten older, and been through years of school, I've learned that I hate the looming feeling of having an assignment due the next day and not having started on it yet. Your grades will be affected by not procrastinating, as you'll have had more time to study, do your work, and go over anything you need.
If you need someone to talk to, or have any questions, please don't be scared to send me a message or an ask, I'm here to help <3
(If I think of anything else, I'll make a part 2)

I’ve always said that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. But after reading the following, you’ll see what I just realized. 💜💜
Cheyenne
"Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!" My father yelled at me. "Can't you do anything right?"
Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn't prepared for another battle.
"I saw the car, Dad. Please don't yell at me when I'm driving."
My voice was measured and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt.
Dad glared at me, then turned away and settled back. At home I left Dad in front of the television and went outside to collect my thoughts.... dark, heavy clouds hung in the air with a promise of rain. The rumble of distant thunder seemed to echo my inner turmoil. What could I do about him?
Dad had been a lumberjack in Washington and Oregon .. He had enjoyed being outdoors and had reveled in pitting his strength against the forces of nature. He had entered grueling lumberjack competitions, and had placed often. The shelves in his house were filled with trophies that attested to his prowess.
The years marched on relentlessly. The first time he couldn't lift a heavy log, he joked about it; but later that same day I saw him outside alone, straining to lift it. He became irritable whenever anyone teased him about his advancing age, or when he couldn't do something he had done as a younger man.
Four days after his sixty-seventh birthday, he had a heart attack. An ambulance sped him to the hospital while a paramedic administered CPR to keep blood and oxygen flowing.
At the hospital, Dad was rushed into an operating room. He was lucky; he survived. But something inside Dad died. His zest for life was gone. He obstinately refused to follow doctor's orders. Suggestions and offers of help were turned aside with sarcasm and insults. The number of visitors thinned, then finally stopped altogether. Dad was left alone.
My husband, Dick, and I asked Dad to come live with us on our small farm. We hoped the fresh air and rustic atmosphere would help him adjust.
Within a week after he moved in, I regretted the invitation. It seemed nothing was satisfactory. He criticized everything I did. I became frustrated and moody. Soon I was taking my pent-up anger out on Dick. We began to bicker and argue.
Alarmed, Dick sought out our pastor and explained the situation. The clergyman set up weekly counseling appointments for us. At the close of each session he prayed, asking God to soothe Dad's troubled mind.
But the months wore on and God was silent. Something had to be done and it was up to me to do it.
The next day I sat down with the phone book and methodically called each of the mental health clinics listed in the Yellow Pages. I explained my problem to each of the sympathetic voices that answered in vain.
Just when I was giving up hope, one of the voices suddenly exclaimed, "I just read something that might help you! Let me go get the article..."
I listened as she read. The article described a remarkable study done at a nursing home. All of the patients were under treatment for chronic depression. Yet their attitudes had improved dramatically when they were given responsibility for a dog.
I drove to the animal shelter that afternoon. After I filled out a questionnaire, a uniformed officer led me to the kennels. The odor of disinfectant stung my nostrils as I moved down the row of pens. Each contained five to seven dogs. Long-haired dogs, curly-haired dogs, black dogs, spotted dogs all jumped up, trying to reach me.
I studied each one but rejected one after the other for various reasons: too big, too small, too much hair. As I neared the last pen a dog in the shadows of the far corner struggled to his feet, walked to the front of the run and sat down. It was a pointer, one of the dog world's aristocrats. But this was a caricature of the breed.
Years had etched his face and muzzle with shades of gray. His hip bones jutted out in lopsided triangles. But it was his eyes that caught and held my attention. Calm and clear, they beheld me unwaveringly.
I pointed to the dog. "Can you tell me about him?" The officer looked, then shook his head in puzzlement. "He's a funny one. Appeared out of nowhere and sat in front of the gate. We brought him in, figuring someone would be right down to claim him. That was two weeks ago and we've heard nothing. His time is up tomorrow." He gestured helplessly.
As the words sank in I turned to the man in horror. "You mean you're going to kill him?"
"Ma'am," he said gently, "that's our policy. We don't have room for every unclaimed dog."
I looked at the pointer again. The calm brown eyes awaited my decision. "I'll take him," I said. I drove home with the dog on the front seat beside me. When I reached the house I honked the horn twice. I was helping my prize out of the car when Dad shuffled onto the front porch. "Ta-da! Look what I got for you, Dad!" I said excitedly.
Dad looked, then wrinkled his face in disgust. "If I had wanted a dog I would have gotten one. And I would have picked out a better specimen than that bag of bones. Keep it! I don't want it" Dad waved his arm scornfully and turned back toward the house.
Anger rose inside me. It squeezed together my throat muscles and pounded into my temples. "You'd better get used to him, Dad. He's staying!"
Dad ignored me. "Did you hear me, Dad?" I screamed. At those words Dad whirled angrily, his hands clenched at his sides, his eyes narrowed and blazing with hate. We stood glaring at each other like duelists, when suddenly the pointer pulled free from my grasp. He wobbled toward my dad and sat down in front of him. Then slowly, carefully, he raised his paw...
Dad's lower jaw trembled as he stared at the uplifted paw. Confusion replaced the anger in his eyes. The pointer waited patiently. Then Dad was on his knees hugging the animal.
It was the beginning of a warm and intimate friendship. Dad named the pointer Cheyenne . Together he and Cheyenne explored the community. They spent long hours walking down dusty lanes. They spent reflective moments on the banks of streams, angling for tasty trout. They even started to attend Sunday services together, Dad sitting in a pew and Cheyenne lying quietly at is feet.
Dad and Cheyenne were inseparable throughout the next three years. Dad 's bitterness faded, and he and Cheyenne made many friends. Then late one night I was startled to feel Cheyenne 's cold nose burrowing through our bed covers. He had never before come into our bedroom at night. I woke Dick, put on my robe and ran into my father's room. Dad lay in his bed, his face serene. But his spirit had left quietly sometime during the night.
Two days later my shock and grief deepened when I discovered Cheyenne lying dead beside Dad's bed. I wrapped his still form in the rag rug he had slept on. As Dick and I buried him near a favorite fishing hole, I silently thanked the dog for the help he had given me in restoring Dad's peace of mind.
The morning of Dad's funeral dawned overcast and dreary. This day looks like the way I feel, I thought, as I walked down the aisle to the pews reserved for family. I was surprised to see the many friends Dad and Cheyenne had made filling the church. The pastor began his eulogy. It was a tribute to both Dad and the dog who had changed his life.
And then the pastor turned to Hebrews 13:2. "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it."
"I've often thanked God for sending that angel," he said.
For me, the past dropped into place, completing a puzzle that I had not seen before: the sympathetic voice that had just read the right article... Cheyenne 's unexpected appearance at the animal shelter... his calm acceptance and complete devotion to my father... and the proximity of their deaths. And suddenly I understood. I knew that God had answered my prayers after all.
Life is too short for drama or petty things, so laugh hard, love truly and forgive quickly. Live while you are alive. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance.
And if you don't send this to anyone -- no one will know. But do share this with someone. Lost time can never be found.
God answers our prayers in His time... not ours...
God doesn't give us what we can handle, He helps us handle (stands with us, and gets us thru) what we are given. In other words, God's Grace keeps Pace with what we Face!!

No Means No, but Context Matters
Look, I have mixed feelings about the way Prapai confronted Sky, but my issues with the method doesn’t make the confrontation itself any less crucial.
I think some people are overlooking some pretty important context in their attempt to simplify Sky’s situation and maintain their bad faith takes on Prapai’s character. Because Sky is a sexual abuse survivor and Prapai’s intentions towards him in the beginning were sexual, they interpret Prapai’s pushiness as similarly abusive. But first of all, guys... it’s a BL drama. Of course Prapai’s intentions are romantic, that’s literally the genre! But him being sexually attracted to Sky doesn’t invalidate his efforts to try and help him.
“No Means No” is a rule specifically about unwanted advances that emphasizes sexual consent. It’s a valuable saying and I would never downplay that! But the slogan exists to address a very specific problem. It is NOT an irrefutable law that should be applied to any and all instances of human interaction, romantic or not, which is how I think some people are choosing to interpret it. “No Means No” should be respected in romantic/sexual encounters, but it should absolutely NOT be applied to people experiencing a mental health crisis.
Because when the person saying “no” is drowning, are we just supposed to let them?
As much as I want Sky’s boundaries to be respected, up until episode 9 I was legitimately scared for him. Sky had emotionally self-isolated, he refused to confide in anyone, didn’t rely on anyone, his best friend didn’t even know he liked men let alone that he’s an abuse survivor! Sky had bottled up all of his trauma and refused to process it. He just wanted to push through and ignore it. Like it or not, Prapai was the only one who noticed how much Sky was actually struggling, and the only one willing to push back when Sky tried to brush it off.
After that, we saw marked improvement over the next two episodes. When Sky got very sick his friends refused to let him help out at the faculty event and forced him to take it easy, and when he was in trouble with schoolwork, he called Prapai and asked for help. These were all positive developments for Sky building a healthy support system, one which includes Prapai.
I think there’s respecting someone’s boundaries, and then there’s letting someone become self-destructive. People say no for a variety of reasons, and as much as I wish everyone would just say what they mean all the time, the truth is that they don’t. People lie, people will smile and tell you they’re fine when they’re dying inside. So what do we do if the person who needs help won’t tell us the truth and we can’t read their minds? What do we do if the person saying no wants to say yes, but they’re scared to— maybe because they don’t want to burden anyone else, or they’re afraid the person they seek help from will hurt them instead. How do we let someone know that it’s okay to ask for help? That it’s safe to. That we want to help them.
The answer is you keep asking. You keep showing up and checking in and making sure they know you’re there for them until they’re not scared anymore. Until they’re ready to trust you. It’s about remaining consistent. If you just take their first no and leave, then yeah you’ve technically respected their boundaries, but you’ve also just proved you are NOT the person they can trust to help them. It is a very fine line to walk when someone suffering needs help but can’t ask for it, between taking someone at their word and giving them the space they need to process, or just checking out of their problem and leaving them trapped inside their own heads to deal with it alone.
Prapai is only human— he’s allowed to struggle between his own desires and doing the right thing. He’s allowed to get hurt and lash out. Regardless of Prapai’s romantic inclinations, his actions serve a greater purpose than just getting Sky to fall for him. Prapai is, at his core, a caretaker. He wants to help Sky, and the only way to convince Sky that he is someone who can help him is to keep showing up and proving that to him. To pull Sky out of his head when he’s spiralling and challenge his negative beliefs that keep him isolated. Prapai doesn’t just not take no for an answer because he won’t accept rejection or because he doesn’t care about what Sky wants. He won’t take no for an answer because he knows that Sky needs help, and Prapai refuses to abandon him even when Sky tries to push him away.
Whether Sky wants to admit it or not, he was drowning. Just because he claimed he could save himself rather than take the risk that Prapai would drag him under, doesn’t mean Prapai was in the wrong for saving him.

MOGAI BHM- Belated Day 15!
happy BHM! yesterday, i gave a more general overview of the Black Power movement- and today, i’m going to be talking more about key groups and individuals from that movement and that general time period, especially Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party!
Malcolm X-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white photograph of Malcolm X, a thin, Black man. He has short, almost buzzed hair, and in the photo, he is smiling very widely, wearing black glasses and a black necktie with a white collared undershirt and a boxy grey suit jacket, and he has a mic extending from his face. End ID.]
The sentiments and progression of the Black Power movement were hugely influenced and inspired by Malcolm X. Although he was murdered before he got the chance to see the Black Power movement begin to grow and flourish, he is an integral part of its history.
Born in 1925, Malcolm X grew accustomed to horrid racist violence from early on. His father, Earl Little, was an active member of the Universal N*gro Improvement Association (UNIA), which meant that the KKK frequently targeted his family, causing them to have to move twice to flee violence- but it got worse everytime they moved. His father was later murdered, though his death was never investigated and just reported by the all white police as a streetcar-related accident.
Tragically, Malcolm’s mother was so impacted by all of this that her mental health suffered and she was institutionalized, forcing Malcolm and his siblings to be separated by the foster system. Malcolm had a somewhat troubled early life, and he ended up incarcerated for nearly a decade- and during that time, he converted to the Nation of Islam, a small group of Black Muslims who were dedicated to spreading Islam within the Black community.
It is with the Nation of Islam that Malcolm X rose to great fame. He changed his name to Malcolm X after prison, and became an active part of the Nation of Islam, which aligned itself with the Black nationalism from the likes of Marcus Garvey, who had inspired Malcolm since he was young. He worked with the leader of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad, and he, along with becoming the minister of several Temples, founded several of his own Temples.
In 1960, Malcolm established the magazine ‘Muhammad Speaks’ to further spread Islam. Through the likes of this magazine, Malcolm X established the sentiments for which he is famous. He is known for saying that “there is no such thing as a nonviolent revolution” and that Black people should “cast off the shackles of racism by any means necessary”. During the Civil Rights Movement, Malcolm X’s fame built the foundations for the Black Power movement.
Malcolm X believed that nonviolence was not the answer and in fact was part of the problem. His was part of a more radical mindset that acknowledged that Black people shouldn’t have to respond to the violence they experience with nonviolence in order to be respected. He believed that nonviolence just enforced respectability politics- if Black people experience senseless violence and persecution, why should they have to be the ones to show restraint? Malcolm’s beliefs were radical for the time, and were a huge part in growing the membership of the Nation of Islam to huge numbers. Malcolm’s call for the liberation, not the assimilation, of Black people, echoed throughout the Black Power movement.
Malcolm’s beliefs and influence made him have many, many devout followers- and many, many devout critics, including Martin Luther King Jr. himself. The two didn’t see eye to eye at all, and fought about the best methods of Black liberation. Malcolm’s fame took him all over the country, giving speeches and sermons at HBCUs and other venues.
In 1964, Malcolm X split with the Nation of Islam after experiencing a fallout with Elijah Muhammad. He embarked on a journey across North Africa and returned with a different belief system, believing more in nonviolence than before. This was brief though, as he was violently assassinated by three members of the Nation of Islam on February 21, 1965. Malcolm’s fame and influence during his lifetime ushered in the Black Power movement that followed his tragic death. His influence helped largely to shift from usage of ‘n*gro’ and ‘colored’, to ‘Black’ and ‘Afro-American’ to refer to Black Americans.
Kwame Ture-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white photograph of Kwame Ture, a thin Black man, standing at a podium with several microphones. He is wearing a black suit jacket over a white collared undershirt with a fancy, patterned black necktie, and is pumping both fists in the air in a celebratory gesture and looking upwards. End ID.]
Formerly named Stokely Carmichael, Kwame Ture was the man who today is pretty unanimously credited with being the “father” of the Black power movement. A graduate of Howard University, a famous HBCU, Kwame, who in 1968 named himself after two of his close friends and political allies, Sekou Toure and Kwame Nkrumah, was a firm believer in Black nationalism, and especially Pan-Africanism- a movement to create a singular Black American identity of pride, to acknowledge pride of being of African descent.
Kwame was heavily involved in the Civil Rights Movement in the early 1960s. During this time, he participated in the pivotal Freedom Rides, and he joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and participated in their sit in movement. This marked the beginning of his time with the SNCC, of which he was eventually elected chairman in 1965, which symbolized an official SNCC shift in ideology from nonviolence to more radical Black nationalism.
While with the SNCC, Kwame Ture campaigned as part of their voting rights campaign, which resulted in the creation of the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, which pushed for voter registration and Black candidates in Lowndes County, Alabama, a county with 80% Black citizenship but 0% Black voter registration. Though initially unsuccessful, this organization was very influential and led to the growth of similar organizations throughout the country- and it also was the precursor to the Black Panther party. The black panther symbol has long been a symbol of Black power, and it was first adopted as a symbol by the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, and was later, with permission, adopted by the Black Panther Party itself.
In March of 1966, after years of growing tension between the SNCC and the SCLC, between the principles of nonviolence and the principles of Black nationalism, Kwame Ture led a march known as the March Against Fear where he officially cried and claimed “Black power”. After this point in time, he began professing Black power publicly and defining and shaping the phrase. In 1968, Kwame was named the honorary prime minister of the Black Panther Party.
After his work with the SNCC, Kwame Ture spent the rest of his life campaigning for racial justice abroad, notably travelling and campaigning to form the All African Peoples Revolutionary Party.
The Black Panther Party-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white photograph of Bobby Seale and Huey Newton, two Black men. They are both wearing button-up leather jackets over white collared shirts, black pants, and black berets, and are standing with their rifles in front of a banner that says “BLACK PANTHER PARTY...”. The rest of what it says is not discernible in the image. End ID.]
Perhaps the most famous group to come out of the Black Power movement was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, or the BPP. It was founded on the premise that, if the state wasn’t going to protect and serve its Black citizens, then Black people would have to do it themselves- the concept of self defense and self determination in the most literal sense.
Outraged by the assassination of Malcolm X, two men, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, met in Oakland in 1966 to form what became the Black Panther Party. Its original purpose was to provide armed self defense to Black neighborhoods against potential acts of white supremacist violence and police brutality. One of its principal ideas was the belief in the arming of all Black Americans so they could be prepared to defend themselves against attacks- so armed self defense became common tactics employed by the many chapters of the BPP that popped up in large cities across America.
The Black Panther Party also operated free breakfast programs for Black children who couldn’t afford expensive school meals, and they offered protection to Black children attending integrated schools. They provided free clothing, food, and transportation to Black people living in poverty, and they called for the freeing of all Black people from all jails, and helped to popularize demands for reparations to be made to Black individuals and communities. Under leadership of local chapters, the BPP opened and ran health clinics for Black Americans.
One radical founding belief of the Black Panther Party was the idea that all oppression, globally, stems from the economic exploitation that exists under capitalism, and that therefore, the abolition of capitalism was the solution to all oppressions. This belief was evident in all of their survival programs and their focus on organizing impoverished Black people to advocate for themselves. Most of their organizing and activism centered around poor Black communities- providing them healthcare, food, clothing, and transportation. They also contributed to the ongoing cause of Freedom Schools and voting registration for Black Americans.
One very notable thing about the Black Panther Party is its Ten-Point Program, which it issued as an outline for the goals of Black liberation, both in general and specifically their goals. This program was, and is, revolutionary because it shows how the foundations of class solidarity lay within the foundations of Black liberation. The ten-point program outlined that education and shelter should be available to all, that reparations should be made, that Black men should be exempt from the draft, that Black people should be given fair trials and treatment within the justice system, that police brutality must be ended, and that Black people deserve equal employment opportunities and the chance to learn about their own history in their schools.
The BPP was the subject of much harassment and suppression by the US government. Huey Newton himself was shot and imprisoned, and the FBI jailed many members and considered them the “number one enemy to national security”. They felt so threatened by Black Power and the BPP that they suppressed them viciously. This resulted in campaigns like the ‘Free Huey’ Campaign.
To this day, the Black Panther Party remains a paradigm for Black pride, Black power, Black nationalism, and Black self determination.
Black Women in the Black Power Movement-
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black-and-white photograph of Angela Davis, a thin Black woman with an afro. In the photo, she is wearing a black long sleeved shirt with a pin on it, and she is standing in front of a microphone into which she is passionately speaking, her mouth open wide. End ID.]
Black women are often ignored and erased from history at large, and that is sadly also true for the history of the Black Power movement. During the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, many forms of mainstream feminism became very popular and gained fame and successes- but many of them excluded and worked against the interests of Black women. Growing Black Power, Black pride, and Black nationalist sentiments combined with rage against anti-Black white feminism, leading many, many Black women to get involved with and help sustain Black Power as a movement.
Despite issues of misogynoir within the Black Panther Party, large amounts of Black women joined their ranks. Many, like Ericka Huggins and Kathleen Cleaver, took on leadership roles, founded and led their own chapters of the BPP. During the Black Power movement, Black women formed both formal and informal networks of other Black women to connect with each other, across the country and across the world. They opened their own beauty shops, barbershops, businesses, and organizations.
During the Black Power movement, masses of Black women joined organizations like the BPP and the National Welfare Rights Organization, and they also created their own organizations. One such organization was the Black Women’s United Front, which was formed by more than 500 women, most of them Black, when they gathered in Detroit on January 25, 1975 to discuss the needs of Black women within a framework of global Black nationalism and liberation. They were dedicated to “abolition of every possibility of oppression & exploitation.” The BWUF developed out of the activism of Black women from the CAP, a national coalition of Black Power and civil rights organizations. Women from these organizations created their own writing columns in newspapers and magazines, handbooks, and guides for Black female liberation.
In 1968, the SNCC held a caucus called the Black Women’s Liberation Committee, where they discussed the misogyny that Black women faced from within the civil rights movement, including from Black men. This caucus developed into the Black Women’s Alliance, and then eventually the Third World Women’s Alliance, which worked to challenge the discrimination Black women faced from many Black men on the grounds of their womanhood.
A key Black woman figure from the Black Power movement is Angela Davis, a member of the BPP and the Communist Party, who was very radical and was jailed for alleged involvement in a murder of a white prison guard, which inspired the famous ‘Free Angela Davis (and all political prisoners)” campaign. She came out as a lesbian in 1977 and to this day is a professor and activist for intersectional justice.
Black women reframed Black Power as a movement of justice and liberation not just racially, but gender and sex wise as well.
Summary-
Malcolm X was a radical Black revolutionary. His work with the Nation of Islam popularized Black nationalist thought and led to the growth of the Black Power movement. He advocated for liberation “by any means necessary”.
Kwame Ture laid the foundations for Black Power as a movement when, as chairman of the SNCC, he chanted Black Power at a march and began organizing for Black Power
The Black Panther Party was a radical, Black revolutionary group aimed at abolishing capitalism. They provided survival programs for Black communities, armed defense in Black neighborhoods, and influenced Black pride and self-determination across the world
Women were a huge part of the Black Power movement. Through founding groups like the Third World Women’s Alliance and the Black Women’s United Front, and through leadership with the BPP and other groups, they revolutionized Black liberation and feminism by providing an intersectional lens.

fun facts :
tulpamancy is a closed practice, meaning you are culturally appropriating.
and forcing being a system is just straight up disrespectful. it isn’t something you want. it’s something you wish would go away.
You know... a "fact" actually requires valid sources.
For example, if the sprul pa is a closed practice, you should be able to find at least one single Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader speaking out about it. Not just random people on the internet who aren't even part of that ethno-religious group or call the Dalai Lama a "Chinese man."
Here are some actual facts:
Tibetan Buddhism is an open religion.
The tulpa was brought to the West in large part due to the work of Lama Kazi Dawa Samdup, a major Tibetan Buddhist translator.
The Dalai Lama has said that other religions can use Buddhist meditations if they deem it helpful.
"Tulpamancy" is the modern, Western practice of creating headmates that originated in 2009. If you want to pretend to care about respecting a culture, try not referring to the sprul pa practice as "tulpamancy." You don't want it too obvious that you never actually cared about Tibetan Buddhists and are just using their culture to score cheap syscourse points.
Now, to your last point, which despite your front is the only thing you actually care about, early studies into tulpamancy have shown positive mental health improvements as a result of the practice. These are self-reports so far but are consistent with what other studies have shown with people who speak with what they believe are gods and spirits, as well as Internal Family Systems therapy.
More studies need to be conducted, but research is pointing towards certain forms of multiplicity being healthy in many cases.
Researchers studying tulpamancy are even hoping the study of the practice can help them develop better treatment methods for DID, which would be great for all systems.
If you're a disordered system who finds this practice and my existence to be disrespectful... that's a you problem, and is something you need to work on. Because I'm certainly not going to pretend to not exist to make you feel better.

Other Bios
XD I dunno if I'll get around to "bios" for every character or anything... But these are more bios that I did up a while ago. Just some of my favorite characters. Others are ones Vergilsama92 asked me to do up. Once again, non-canon, but if you wanted more flesh to these characters~... (人◕ω◕)
Aoi Asahina
Tumblr media
Aoi Asahina. The Ultimate Swimmer. A girl of unlimited energy, and has participated in at least six different school sports teams – track, basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, and competitive swimming. But who is Aoi Asahina? Where did she come from? What are her dreams and ambitions?
For an Ultimate that was chosen by Hope’s Peak, Aoi has the background and history that most people assume of all Ultimates. Aoi comes from an average family, a loving father and mother, along with one brother in Yuta Asahina. Her family has had no history of prior professional athletes, record breakers, or gold medalists, the Asahina lineage is average enough that you could find a family like them anywhere.
But with all of that said… her parents and grandparents WERE athletes. But they took sports so casually, just for the sake of having a good time, they never left a noticeable mark in newspapers or sports mags. And that’s why Aoi started out so… normally. She didn’t see sports as something to go professional at, or to get serious about and just WIN, Aoi was simply a kid you’d find anywhere that loved being active and being on her schools’ sports teams. She was a team player, and as long as they had a good time, Aoi didn’t mind winning or losing.
This kept on going throughout Aoi’s elementary school years, but soon enough, Aoi was influenced by her peers’ attitudes, if only a little. Doing sports for fun was great, and Aoi didn’t mind keeping that end goal in mind – but sports involved people playing against each other one-on-one or in teams, right? So Aoi developed a competitive mentality. She didn’t HAVE to win each match… but winning would be nice, wouldn’t it? Losing sucks, just don’t let it get you down!
Aside from a competitive spirit, Aoi became what many would call a ‘health nut’. It’s not so much that she was “afraid” of getting sick… Or maybe she was, but maybe not for the reasons most would suspect. Illnesses and sick days meant that Aoi wasn’t allowed to leave her bed, and to her that was simply the worst fate imaginable. Being stuck doing “nothing” all day. Sometimes even a full week. Aoi’s parents would give her books, puzzles, and video games to whittle away the time, but for the young girl it just wasn’t ENOUGH. During the school year, if she was sick then her team was training and carrying on without her; and during the summer, she was wasting time that could be spent outside, having fun. Sick days were just the worst! So Aoi looked into ways to improve her quality of life and keep icky illnesses at bay. Her methods weren’t always effective, everyone gets sick throughout their lifetime, even the healthiest of people. But she found ways to make sick days so rare, she might as well claim she never got sick, and she managed it from such an early age.
… She even wears shorts in winter. Yes, people like her DO exist, and she’s NOT crazy!!! You’re just scared of the cold because you can’t handle it!!!!!
But Aoi can. Cold winter air and illnesses are scared of HER. That’s what Aoi’s decided~ And it’s with that mentality that Aoi kept on improving her health, to stay in the game with sports, and to keep moving because she was nervous she would die if she got too lazy… The thing is, no matter how active she is, schoolmates can be cruel. They call her a spaz just ‘cause she’s got so much energy, and they see her eating donuts, sweets, and meat – so much meat… - and they think Aoi’s going to be so fat. They mock her for putting on any weight at all… and that made Aoi overly conscientious of her figure and weight. She loves to eat, and she’s almost certain that she burns off all the calories with all the exercise she does… But still. Aoi lets the words of her schoolmates get to her, and it’s just one more reason to stay physically fit.
… Even if that means people comment on her blossoming chest waaay more than she would prefer. It’s not her fault she’s an early bloomer…! If it’s not her eating habits that friends tease her relentlessly over, it’s her chest and making way too many sexual jabs at her. It’s enough to make most people throw up their hands and beg their parents to let them transfer schools… But Aoi just knows that there’s going to be people like that everywhere. She can’t let those haters win and let them get to her. Aoi’s real friends will stick by her, and she knows when the teasing is done in good faith, and not intent to harm. It just gets rough, sometimes.
It’s one reason that Aoi eventually settles on her dream of winning an Olympic Gold Medal. Not because she has to win, but because she wants to prove herself. To prove the people that doubt her they’re wrong, and despite how plain she is, if she just keeps working hard and getting better and better at sports… she’ll get there, one day. It’d also be nice to have that Gold Medal to give her family a notable accomplishment, since they’re so… average.
While her track record with most sports is average, if not admirable that she tries so hard in all of them, swimming is the one sport she never loses in, even from a young age. It’s her favorite sport because it’s so… liberating. With swimming you can go as slow or fast as you like, can dive underwater and see how long you can hold your breath or if you can touch the bottom of the pool, and springing off of a diving board doing all sorts of tricks… There’s so much you can DO with swimming…! That’s what Aoi firmly believes. And not everyone is even all that good at it. For Aoi, helping save a person that fell into the water on accident, or swam too far out and is in danger of drowning, it’s one of the nicest feelings in the world. They’re not always grateful or even conscious when she saves them, but it never fails to make Aoi warm and fuzzy to be… helpful to others.
By the time Aoi reached middle school, she was so proficient with swimming that Olympic teams were already scouting her out for her talent. And the fact Hope’s Peak further identified her as a person that was very promising, offering her the title of Ultimate Swimmer… Aoi couldn’t have been happier, accepting their invitation. Because Hope’s Peak promises success if you graduate from there.
And that’s all Aoi wants. To get better, to prove herself against naysayers and haters, and to do her family proud by getting that Gold Medal one day. Aoi might be the common expectation of an Ultimate, but her infectious positive attitude and high energy is only matched by a precious few schoolmates at Hope’s Peak.
Miu Iruma
Tumblr media
Miu Iruma. The Ultimate Inventor. Despite her kinky, vulgar personality, this woman is a wizard with technology and tools. She has crafted dozens of inventions, if they don’t outright number in the hundreds… But still. Who is this genius girl? Where does she come from? What are her dreams and ambitions?
It may come as no surprise that Miu’s father was a mechanic, and her mother was a repair technician. Between the two of them, Miu was exposed to a variety of appliances, devices, and gadgets from a young age. But because her parents were rather hands-off, pretty much absorbed into their careers, Miu didn’t have much love for either of them. Rather, their house and garage were a junkyard of tools and parts of devices and appliances that only the occupants of the home could navigate or know what they were looking at. Clean the house? Who had time for that crap??? There were no knickknacks or even many items that didn’t pertain to her parents’ jobs. Coat racks, shelves, tables (even the kitchen table!), the floor… wherever they could throw things and find them again, her parents had a very laissez-faire organizational system. No guests or friends ever came over. Her parents were a bunch of recluses, and even Miu was picky with “friends” at school, always going over to their places and never inviting anyone over ‘cause she knew her family was a weird one.
The point is, day in and day out Miu saw the ins and outs of so many devices and appliances. Whether she wanted to or not, she began to memorize hardware and software maintenance, and one day her hidden potential was accessed for the very first time. Miu was fed up with her regular Playstation controller having a (in her own humble opinion) short battery life, so what did she do? Miu developed a much more efficient battery and controller that would last at least a year before fizzling out. And before long, she fiddled with the Playstation itself so that it would update whenever new updates became available and she wasn’t around.
Miu carried on like this for a while, all too happy to improve her own gaming experiences, even adding a retinal login scan to her laptop for funsies! But before long, Miu’s schoolmates caught onto what she was doing, as she would bring over her own personal controllers whenever she was invited over to play. And of course they were jealous, and demanded Miu perform the same modifications to their own controllers and consoles. Miu tried making the most of this, charging a fee whenever she was requested to modify gaming systems… But most of her schoolmates bullied Miu into it, and the young inventor was cowed into accepting her “lowly” station of making her “friends’” lives better.
It wasn’t long before some of the girls got fed up with their hair dryers fizzling out, or other such beauty concerns, and that’s when Miu began to branch out from just working on gaming systems. She’d seen her mom crack open their hair dryer enough to know what was usually wrong with the stupid things, and soon enough all the girls at school had high-performance hair dryers and even walk-in closets that would rotate and spin around them whenever they pushed a button – or if they wanted to find a specific outfit, the closet would spit it out for them. Miu had found a pretty good groove with visual technology thanks to the retinal login scan, so getting the computers to identify clothes and outfits wasn’t that much of a big deal for her. And thanks to her dad doing weird shit in the garage where he threw together a mini-robotic assembly line to help him work on vehicles while at home… Miu was well-versed enough in robotics as far as robot arms and shelves/racks that could move autonomously.
Despite all these innovations, the first real “invention” attributed to Miu’s name – one that she got trademarked and all that – were the “eye-drop contact lenses” that some of her schoolmates were annoying her about, because they hated contact lenses, and the whole process of removing them to apply eyedrops. But soon, many more inventions came to life from Miu’s fingertips. A truly “universal” controller that could work the TV, the ceiling fans, the toaster, oven, microwave, shower, faucets, garage door, front and back doors (all of this with a simple additions to said appliances, to link them to the remote)… An automated dish washer that used robotic arms to deal with piles of dishes on the counter, and then later put them away in the cupboards… A more high-performance Roomba that could also sweep and mop, if filled with clean water… Better security cameras for her school, along with doors that locked automatically, and could only open with the keycards or a retinal scan… Machines that could grade stacks of exams in mere minutes…
All of these and many more can be attributed to Miu Iruma. Her schoolmates and teachers used her as a glorified slave when her talents became well-known enough, but Miu reveled in the attention and high praises they sung of her. Her parents let her do whatever, as long as she replaced whatever she used from their home – because they WOULD end up using just about anything and everything in their junkyard of a home, at some point. But… it wasn’t just wizardry with machines that she picked up from her parents’ laziness and laser focus to their work, her parents were also… rather lewd. … Because why the fuck not? If they could have sex anywhere in their messy house and still know where everything was from their raucous lovemaking, what was the harm? Miu would have to learn about “the birds and the bees” sooner or later. And if her school gave complaints about Miu’s foul mouth and perverted tongue, they sure as hell weren’t gonna do shit. The school was using their daughter to improve their facilities and crap – whatever Miu said or did, the school knew what they signed up for, giving their daughter something to do.
Eventually, Miu was scouted by Hope’s Peak because their district became well-known for the innovations to their everyday lives. And while Miu’s old school moaned and groaned about Miu ditching them… The young inventor herself was all too happy to get her career to take off to greener pastures~… Hope’s Peak already had technological marvels, and she’d learn sooo much more from them~…
All for her sake, yes? Miu and her GLORIOUS golden brain~… Oh yeah. And she could probably do a great service to mankind by improving her talents… or whatever crap she usually spewed. As long as she got the credit and praise, Miu didn’t mind being society’s cumdumpster~… It’s what she lived for~! Servicing mankind~!
Kirumi Tojo
Tumblr media
Kirumi Tojo. The Ultimate Maid. It’s said that she’ll complete any task she’s given, provided that it’s within her power. But who IS this stone cold fox? Where did she come from? What are her goals, dreams, ambitions?
Kirumi originally comes from a middle class family. She doesn’t remember much about them, because at the age of seven they incurred a massive, impossible debt to pay back by normal means. Kirumi does not know the nature of this debt, whether it was from gambling or if it was a more personal affair that her parents had with someone in a higher station of wealth and power… What she does know is that at seven years old, men in black suits broke into their home and seized her, her mother, and her father separately. Kirumi doesn’t know all the details, but she vaguely remembers being told that the three of them were spirited away to three separate wealthy families/organizations. And if they wanted their freedom back, they would have to earn it through servitude.
That’s how Kirumi’s new life began. The family/corporation that Kirumi’s was indebted to, they believed in the maxim of “the sins of the father are visited upon by the children.” That’s why Kirumi was taken as collateral. Still, it was a bit trickier than just one family being owed dues – that’s why the mother, father, and daughter were split up to work for three different affluent families.
But even so… because she was a child, Kirumi was treated comfortably by the family that took her in. They had many servants in their employ, and all of them were treated more fairly than most blue collar workers; their rooms were half the size of normal bedrooms, but the beds were heavenly, and the facilities and food were always maintained and of great quality. Kirumi’s new family believed that if they didn’t treat servants with due respect, they would run away. So even though they were identified as servants… they were treated as human beings.
The thing about Kirumi… is that because of her new living conditions, she had no reason to complain about her status. She had a roof over her head, would be well fed, and there would even be time for breaks throughout each day. Kirumi’s new family even set one day aside on the weekends to let the servants see to their own well-beings and lodgings – because even though the family took care of the bigger appliances and furniture that needed to be maintained, the servants were still in charge of keeping their own living quarters in a state they could be comfortable with. The family wouldn’t do EVERYTHING for them.
And because Kirumi had no reason to complain… with every assurance that she could one day see her mother and father again, if she worked to hard to repay her family’s debt… Kirumi settled into a routine of accomplishing whatever tasks were asked of her. It was slow at first, because even though Kirumi could sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust without much learning needed, her masters saw fit to hold the bar high and kept asking her for more and more challenging tasks to be accomplished for them. Setting the tables for a big banquet of multiple affluent families coming together. Fixing the plumbing. Fixing the TV antenna or the house’s wifi. Maintaining the family’s cars. Keeping the gardens and the outside of the main mansion looking splendorous. Booking family stays at restaurants, hotels, or even international travels… Anything and everything was thrown Kirumi’s way. And no one stooped to help her, because Kirumi was a servant. She would have to learn sooner or later, there were some tasks she would fail at, be reprimanded for, and then try again later.
But she didn’t. Kirumi NEVER had to learn that. Because as soon as the tasks started getting harder, Kirumi picked up reading and other avenues of learning to acquire the means to do these tasks – all on her own time, on the one day she had to herself. Kirumi developed a laser focus for fulfilling every request sent her way, because she wanted to earn her freedom, and she wanted to get back to her family.
What Kirumi didn’t realize, however… is that her new family had not been upfront with her about her original family’s debt. It was so substantial, that her mother and father would probably be worked to death. And as for Kirumi herself, well… with how diligently and efficiently she worked, why would they ever want to get rid of such a good little servant girl? If she’d been diligent and thorough enough, the original arrangement was that Kirumi was to be released from her servitude at sixteen years old, and not a day later… However. Kirumi’s new family did NOT want to give her up. Over the nine years they had her, the family chipped away at Kirumi’s mentality – making her see the benefits and glory of serving others. Little by little, they won over Kirumi’s loyalty, so that when her sixteenth birthday did finally arrive… Kirumi had no desire to leave them. And because she was no longer a “servant”, she was moved into the main house, where her accommodations and living conditions were even better. Kirumi accepted being adopted by her new family, and had all but forgotten her old one – being educated over the years that they were the worst kind of parents, racking up debt and having undesirable qualities. Why would she ever want to return to them?
… But even with Kirumi’s loyalty won over, Hope’s Peak did come calling, soon after her sixteenth birthday. And though by now she was used to being sent out to serve friends and other affluent families, in order to maintain good ties between the families of the upper crust of society, this was Kirumi’s first real… freedom. Her new family couldn’t stop her from accepting Hope’s Peak invitation, and even though they were sure Kirumi would turn the academy down and stay with them… Kirumi accepted. Because Hope’s Peak promised success in life after graduation. Because Hope’s Peak was the best school in the country. And if she could perfect her skills as the Ultimate Maid… she could serve her new family without fail, forever.
… What Kirumi never counted on, though… was meeting people that opened her eyes to what her new family did. How they tried to break her. And even though she still felt compelled to defend their actions… Kirumi is relieved to have this freedom, and to have a new “Master” in Makoto Naegi…
Yes. This wasn’t a problem for her at all.
Kokichi Oma
Tumblr media
Kokichi Oma. The Ultimate Supreme Leader. A boy that has become the embodiment of lying and deceit, that finds lying to be as easy as breathing. But who is he, really? Why did Hope’s Peak recruit such a “malicious” individual as an “evil” Supreme Leader?
Kokichi’s story… isn’t a happy one. His parents died in a car crash when he was six years old – but that wasn’t the worst part of that incident. A neighbor saw Kokichi playing in the garage, doing something suspicious in the car before his parents left for work – and like any “concerned” citizen reported it to the authorities investigating his parents’ deaths. The police looked into the crash, and indeed found that the car had been tampered with, that it had been sabotage – but testimony from Kokichi and the neighbor revealed that whatever the little boy had been doing, it was in a different section of the vehicle, and thus deemed innocent of killing his parents. The case went unsolved, however, as there had been no other suspects, and the suspicions surrounding Kokichi were never cleared up. They hung around him like a dense fog.
… The truth of the case, however, was known by Kokichi. He’d seen a strange man leaving his family’s garage, and had been in the process of checking out the car when that neighbor spotted him. Kokichi hadn’t found anything wrong, though, and when he tried telling his parents about the suspicious man, they just ruffled his hair and chalked it up as Kokichi’s imagination and went to work as usual. Kokichi explained as such to the police when grilled for testimony, but they believed he was making it all up and covering for his own actions. They just couldn’t find any solid evidence to pin on him. Seeing as how he had no other living relatives, Kokichi was sent off to an orphanage where those suspicions clung onto him relentlessly.
“Kokichi murdered his parents” became the TRUTH…! At least as far as the adults around him were concerned. They had no idea that it was one of Kokichi’s mother’s ex-boyfriends that was responsible. Everything Kokichi did from then on was treated with suspicion and doubt. No matter how well-behaved he was, they thought Kokichi was aiming to hurt, if not outright murder his next target. Whoever that turned out to be.
… Unfortunately, three years after going to the orphanage, Kokichi became wrapped up in the murder investigation of one of his fellow orphans. This time, authorities could at least pin him with a motive and an opportunity – Kokichi butted heads with the other boy quite frequently, and many witnesses could testify to it. And the night the other boy was murdered, Kokichi was spotted sneaking out of that boy’s bedroom, where the other boy was found, strangled to death.
It was Strike Two, but once again, no decisive evidence could be linked back to Kokichi. The case went cold with no further suspects and leads. The truth behind that incident was that one of the caretakers murdered that child, wishing to frame Kokichi to get him removed from the orphanage - the reason being that Kokichi was too clever and had cottoned onto the orphanage’s shady dealings, leaking details out to the media. The police had already begun sniffing around, and it was only a matter of time before they were exposed; Kokichi needed to go. But people would ask questions if the “troublemaker” was killed, so they went the route of framing him.
And it. Didn’t. Work.
The orphanage was shut down not even a month later, and Kokichi found himself shuffled off to the next one, seemingly oblivious of the buzz surrounding him. The “brat who got away with murder TWICE”. It was about this time that Kokichi made his first true friends – ten rascals that were in the same boat as him, being mistrusted by adults and in worst cases used as scapegoats for crimes that went unsolved. The truth was that Kokichi was painfully aware precious few people trusted him, and he’d constructed a happy-go-lucky mask to hide his true feelings. He wouldn’t grant adults the satisfaction of seeing him break, so he became the “Supreme Leader” that everyone was buzzing about – they all believed he was a mustache-twirling villain, so he took to the role because speaking the truth did nothing for him. He became the most mischievous prankster ever; and even though that pranking got him into serious trouble, like when he discovered that boy’s body and he was framed for murder, Kokichi reveled in the notoriety. He owned being the “villain” because that’s what everybody wanted, and he identified his own kind when he met his ten friends. They were the unwanted brats. The undesirables.
And they were unstoppable when they came together. Individually, their pranks were already ingenious… But together? They entered the realm of Legendary. Probably the worst part for the adults that hated them, Kokichi and his gang pulled HARMLESS pranks. They never assaulted people, stole money, or did irreparable damage; they were just… kids.
And that was the joke. People wanted to be rid of them, for Kokichi and his friends to be the murderers and criminals they were framed as… And instead they were just a bunch of troublemaking punks that were trying to have a few laughs. Nobody would listen them because of their reputations, so they’d continue to cause mischief just to rub it in haters’ faces: Their existence wasn’t what was wrong, it was the adults that screwed them over. Kokichi rose up as their fearless leader – the one who smiled the widest, the one who laughed loudest, the one who… lied the most.
Life had dealt Kokichi a bad hand. All the members of DICE were the butt of everyone’s jokes. But still, Kokichi’s perseverance got him noticed by Koichi Kizakura, who invited him to join Hope’s Peak as the Ultimate Supreme Leader. Kokichi could tell that it was an act of pity, since Hope’s Peak always did its homework before recruiting kids. Well. He figured it was pity. He didn’t have much of an opinion of a hoity-toity school like Hope’s Peak, but he figured he’d give it a whirl – if only to do all he could for DICE, to keep them together and provide for them. Hope’s Peak was generous with its students, after all, giving facilities and whatever else they needed… If a school so far up its own ass was gonna use him as a lab rat, he might as well use them in turn to support the only family he had now. He WAS the Ultimate Supreme Leader of Evil, after all~… Nishishi~…
Celestia Ludenberg
Tumblr media
Celestia Ludenberg. The Ultimate Gambler. The Queen of Liars. Prior to enrolling in Hope’s Peak, she’d gone undefeated in the underground gambling dens for four years. Her goal of acquiring a European castle is widely known, and no one will get in the way of that dream. But who is this girl, wrapped up in a web of lies that no one has been unable to untangle?
Her real name is Taeko Yasuhiro. She was born in a working class family in Utsunomiya, the capital of the Tochigi Prefecture. Her childhood was rather plain, if not a bit on the rough side – her parents worked for a living, so they were hardly ever home. Taeko learned early on to take care of herself, which included preparing meals, going to school, eventually doing odd jobs around her neighborhood to support her own living (shopping, food, clothes, whatever it may be). Her parents had zero expectations of her; they didn’t care if she cleaned the apartment or maintained it – all they ever did consistently was pay for her schooling. Only half the time did they make sure the fridge was stocked for her, and after Taeko reached about eight years old they stopped buying clothes for her, seeing how expensive it was to keep buying those for a growing child. They taught her to patch her clothes when holes/tears appeared, but that was probably the extent of their “parenting”, aside from teaching Taeko at five years old to not touch the stove/oven with her bare hands, and to be careful around knives.
With such a family, it comes as no surprise that Taeko held no love towards her parents. They were people that lived together, and that was about it. Her parents expected nothing of her, and Taeko had zero expectations in return. Their family didn’t have a penny to their name that didn’t go into supporting immediate needs, and early on Taeko rolled with it. There wasn’t much she could do about it. She was just a kid in a rough neighborhood. … At least Utsunomiya’s gyoza was delightful~
But eventually… Taeko became well read enough that she could understand history of other countries, and she was positively fascinated by the Victorian and Rococo period and European figures like Marie Antoinette. To make her life more bearable, Taeko concocted a backstory for herself: her name was Celestia Ludenberg, and her father was of French nobility while her mother was a member of a German family of musicians. At one point, she rescued a cat from the streets, taking good care of it and bestowing the name Grand Bois Cheri Ludenberg onto him; she taught the cat to love gyoza as much as she did, and worked hard to have nice dresses for herself and to have glamorous things for her cat. Taeko even worked tirelessly to give herself a European accent. But even with how hard she worked to make herself different from her birth name and identity… It became obvious that no one took her seriously in her hometown because they knew Taeko and her family, so one day Taeko just… ran away. Ran away and never looked back. She was already supporting herself except for school, and even adding that onto her pile of bills wasn’t a big deal… She just needed a bigger source of income than odd jobs around town. Taeko would escape the mundanity of life, and she would never have to work for a living, ever. That is what she decided.
… Of course, in a new town where she wasn’t known… Taeko couldn’t stick out too much… “Upstanding” citizens weren’t going to hire some kid to work with them, no matter how much she sold her identity as Celestia Ludenberg. Police would start poking into her business if she kicked up too much of a fuss. So Taeko stuck to the town’s underbelly, as crazy as that sounds… She took her chances with the riffraff, the murderers, the rapists, the yakuza… Taeko literally staked her life on these scum, absolutely refusing to return to the pitiful girl that was Taeko Yasuhiro. She began tackling the gambling dens, since they offered her the most money – Taeko found she had quite the hot streak. Even hardcore gamblers, even veterans couldn’t hope to match her. She built up her wealth, piece by piece – soon, she was back in school; soon, she was buying gaudier and more extravagant dresses and possessions; soon, she was living in a penthouse suite somewhere in Tokyo. Taeko basked in those small victories for about… half a year.
But Celestia Ludenberg proved insatiable. Even with law enforcement not looking her way, even with much of the world buying into her “true” identity, even living in the laps of luxury and attending prestigious academies… Celestia Ludenberg wanted to leave Japan behind. No, not just Japan… Mediocrity. Mediocrity had to go. If she stayed here in Japan, people might eventually drag her back down to Hell, and Celes had promised herself that she would NEVER go back to the slums. The only way she was going to escape was to “return” to her “true” homeland. And since her father was of French nobility, it followed that Celes would live as royalty, too. A European castle. Vampire butlers. Celes would have it all… She had the means to get there. She’d already staked her life for half a year and climbed the social class ladder to the top, saving up for a castle would be child’s play.
Celes kept on that path for three and a half more years before she was scouted by Koichi Kizakura. Her reputation was cemented by that point, and she’d saved up a billion yen while still living her cozy lifestyle; she just needed ten billion more, and she could take that stab at the European market, there was a castle she had her eyes on and it wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Hope’s Peak would pile on more affluence and prestige, so Celes accepted the invitation to join without a second thought.
Hope’s Peak guaranteed success in life, after all. And that is precisely what Celestia Ludenberg does. Succeed. Win. Prosper. Flourish. Thrive. Advance.
Chisa Yukizome
Tumblr media
Chisa Yukizome. The Ultimate Housekeeper. Even though she could have a job anywhere since Hope’s Peak would be on her resume, Chisa chose to stay on as a teacher of the school. Initially, it was to help Kyosuke and investigate the potential darkness the school was hiding… But soon enough, Chisa’s genuine calling shined through; she didn’t just want to play a role, she really was suited for teaching. Even so, who is this woman? How did Hope’s Peak come to notice her?
Chisa’s childhood was average by most standards… She had loving parents, supportive friends and classmates, and she succeeded with what she put her mind to. Studying for a class? Easy. Providing for a friend’s birthday party? Easy. Performing the chores that the adults asked of her? Easy. Chisa was a go-getter, and she tended to bounce back whenever she got depressed… usually.
But that’s the thing about excelling at school or anything, really. You’re set apart from the rest of your classmates, and as easy as it is to make friends… It’s keeping them that’s the tough part. Some kids get jealous of how good you are at things, and before long they get angry and shout at you. It’s okay, it’s just a dent in your friendship with them… But soon that happens enough times, and those friends move away and stop staying in touch with you. Sometimes they don’t even move away. They just ignore you, no matter how many times you call out to them… Your “infectious” upbeat, positive attitude will sometimes brighten people’s days, and other times it will just irritate them to no end.
But it’s fine. Chisa might not always luck out with friends, but she found ways to keep busy – people loved it when she offered to clean their houses. Half the time, she didn’t even charge anything; either the families were too poor, or she was too kind to ask for a reward. Chisa just wanted to be helpful. Dusting, vacuuming, mopping… Organizing clutter… Moving furniture… Chisa never did things she wasn’t tasked with, but she did offer her full array of services to anyone and everyone, just so they knew what she was game for. Cleaning houses was… It was soothing to Chisa. It kept her loneliness at bay when friends cancelled on her, and kept her feeling, well… useful. After all, there’s only so many times you can clean your own house before your parents shoo you out, begging you to stay out until dinner.
Of course, she eventually had to stop asking her neighbors if she could help… They’d tell her parents what she was doing, and then she’d be given more… more… Well. It’s not like they ever abused her. But they’d do everything in their power to make Chisa unwind and do anything but clean… And Chisa just didn’t WANT downtime…! Relaxation meant being alone. Alone with her thoughts. She didn’t know what games were cool or fun to play – video games or otherwise – and friends just didn’t feel comfortable playing with her for long because she was so out of touch, or it was her chipper attitude… Whatever it was, Chisa’s friends just wanted to keep their activities to schoolgrounds, and that left an awful lot of “me time” for Chisa… She didn’t have hobbies besides cleaning or being helpful.
… And that’s what led Chisa to advertise her services at school. The staff didn’t want to employ a student for janitorial work, not one who was consistently at the top of her class, and those neon fliers of Chisa’s were… They made staff and students alike feel uncomfortable, knowing Chisa was trying to get attention, in her own strange way… Yet despite her fliers getting torn down and thrown away, parents of students saw them, and gave Chisa something to do after school when enough of them learned about her. Chisa didn’t mind doing all the cleaning pro bono, her reputation began preceding her, and soon more and more people outside of school were begging for her help, even extending to yardwork…
Despite her parents’ attempts to cut back on her obsession with housework, Chisa kept getting better and more renowned for it. Her notoriety as a housekeeper got to the point that Chisa didn’t care “who” she was helping, whether they were just lazy or if they genuinely needed help, she was all too proud to show off her skills and be useful. She got a sense of what people to avoid – there WERE some sleazy guys wanting to take advantage of her… But she was able to sniff those ones out in due time. If Chisa took longer to get back home at night, her parents just reheated her dinner and stayed up to bond with her as a family. It was… the only time Chisa really relaxed. And it brought them no end of grief. Chisa was a bright young girl, and all she really had going for her was all that excellence and achievement, no real friends to stand by her. But despite that, Chisa tried accepting life as it came and staying positive.
… It was rough to watch. When Kizakura eventually scouted Chisa, her parents sent her off with proud, but strained smiles. Attending Hope’s Peak would definitely be the height of her career… They could really only hope that the academy did something about Chisa’s lack of friends. Because… she really needed some.
Thankfully, Chisa did find a few precious people~ Even after graduating and becoming a teacher…
Sayaka Maizono
Tumblr media
Sayaka Maizono. The Ultimate Idol. The top idol in the nation. Her performances bring audiences to tears of joy with her beautiful dancing and melodious voice. But in the end… who is the REAL Sayaka Maizono? Where did she come from? What are her dreams and ambitions?
Sayaka never got to meet her mother. She died before Sayaka reached an age when she could remember things. Sayaka’s father raised her all on his own, and it was hard finding the time to grieve the loss of his wife – Sayaka required his full attention because there were no friends or family in the immediate area of where they lived that he could trust to take care of his daughter.
For the first few years, it was fine. Sayaka’s father was able to work from home and take care of her. But then came the years when Sayaka became autonomous, and he had to find on-site jobs to be able to support the both of them. Growing girls go through clothes and toys so fast… He was never able to spoil Sayaka too much, not on his income, but he did what he could. Because Sayaka looked just like her mother… And he felt obligated to do everything he could to keep her happy, out of guilt and pent-up grief of losing her mother.
But Sayaka’s father couldn’t provide for himself and Sayaka, AND be there to give her the love and support she desperately needed as a child. No one at school felt like getting too close to a girl whose parents were never there for school events and programs, and no one was too eager to go to her home to see what her life was like. Sayaka spent so much of her free hours, watching TV to pass the time, and soon enough she became enchanted by the idols she saw performing on stage. Soon she was clumsily mimicking them and singing along when she learned the lyrics well enough.
Watching those idols on TV… were some of her happiest childhood memories. Never failed to flood her chest with warmth and comfort. She never resented her father for being away for long hours; he was working hard for the both of them, and Sayaka felt terrible for being a burden to him. Only Sayaka was aware that her father hadn’t expressed his grief since the passing of her mother; oh, he broke down privately all the time, but he struggled so hard to stay strong around her and his co-workers. Sayaka was painfully aware she made her father’s efforts all the more difficult – he never failed to tell her she was beautiful just like her mother, and he loved her so much.
Still… even if Sayaka understood and felt like a burden to her father, she didn’t want to remain that way. She wanted so badly to escape the loneliness at home, and to be able to pay her father back for all of his hard work. And the way she found to do that… was auditioning to be an idol. It took some scraping up – saving about three months’ of earnings on the side of her father’s salary, money that could have done them a lot more good than going to some audition she might fail at… Sayaka knew it was selfish, but she BEGGED him to help her – she PROMISED him she would practice nonstop so that when the time came, the audition would go through and it would pay off for both of them.
… Well. The audition did go… well.
But not for the reasons that Sayaka or her father would have hoped.
Sayaka’s singing and dancing, while it was average for a kid who taught herself, watching idols on TV… There was simply too many other talented kids trying to push their way into the industry. Those families had better connections, better ‘training’, more cash in their pockets, and compared to them, Sayaka did look rather… unremarkable. Perhaps even undesirable.
But if there was one thing Sayaka had going for her… she was cute. And the agency that was scouting for talent, they knew that Sayaka’s… youth… would appeal to a lot of fans. She probably wouldn’t last into adulthood, but the agency was willing to make the most of her “Star Power” that a child can wield in Japanese society.
The agency really just planned to whore Sayaka out to a lecherous fanbase. They didn’t speak a word of it to her father or to Sayaka, but that’s the “potential” they saw in her. Their agency already had dependable, older talent, and they were in no rush to replace that talent. Thing is, this is also the time that the agency picked up Kasumi, Ayaka, Satomi, and Haruka. They figured that a team of girls would stir up a more frothing fanbase…
And it did. Just not for the reasons THEY were thinking of. Sayaka clung to her new friends, overwhelmed by the hellish training the agency put them through to make them… “presentable”. And by sticking with them, Sayaka’s abilities increased a millionfold, as did Kasumi, Ayaka, Satomi, and Haruka’s talents. The agency was NOT expecting this sort of synergy, but they ran with it. They stuck together because the consequences of failure would mean returning to their former, dreary lives… And for Sayaka, it would mean her father would be back at square one, breaking his back for the both of them.
She kept up the idol career. It was a bit slow at first, but eventually Sayaka was eating meals at home with her father, and actually spending time with him. They reached a more amenable position with Sayaka’s more generous income, and… and for a time, it was bliss for Sayaka. It was just training, do a few shows, and spend time with her dad. For a time, it was like everything she ever wanted.
… But then Sayaka found the dark underbelly of the idol industry. Nothing was ever “good enough”, not for the agency she worked for, not for ANY agency out there. Despite doing pretty well, Sayaka had to ramp up her efforts and beat the pants off of new talent trying to worm their way into the agency. HER agency. New talent that, if allowed, would replace her, would replace Kasumi, Ayaka, Satomi, and Haruka… And Sayaka and her father would be back at square one.
That was unacceptable. Sayaka had found peace with her friends, with growing closer to her father and making a more stable life for themselves… If somebody had to lose, it wasn’t gonna be her. Especially when she started playing dirty to keep coming out on top in those auditions… Humiliating the competition and scaring them into never coming back… As long as she wasn’t caught, anything was fair game. And it only got worse when her friends got in on the act, doing whatever they could to build up their reputations and keeping competition out of the game.
But it wasn’t just their own agency they had to maintain their place at the top of the hill. They HAD to beat the talents from other agencies; any mediocre showings or bad days… Excuses weren’t going to fly. Their agency wanted to be the best, just like everyone else out there. The synergy that Sayaka and her friends developed… it was a useful tool for the agency. Usually, idols would turn on themselves and cannibalize… But Sayaka and her friends were a diamond in the rough. Their ability to coordinate together and sabotage other agencies… So long as Sayaka and her friends kept doing ANYTHING to get ahead, together, their agency was happy to keep them on and assert their dominance over the industry. Sayaka might have developed a voice and dance to go along with that face and figure, but the agency was adamant to keep her as the leader of the group because of that lustrous beauty that they rigorously maintained.
Needless to say, innocence was long since lost, even as they kept going to school and spending time with their families. Sayaka and her friends were celebrities at Black Root Elementary, and as they grew older and reached middle school, they were repeatedly warned – “no boyfriends”. Their pristine images had to be maintained. Yet even so… through separate incidents and circumstances, they did become aware of Makoto Naegi, who attended the same school and was in the same grade as them… He wasn’t too far below celebrity status himself with how nice and helpful he was to everyone. Still, Sayaka and her friends played ball with their agency and never properly interacted with Makoto, who they were pretty interested in… And they did regret never trying to be his friend. But middle school passed by in a flash, and their careers skyrocketed, their agency moving to Tokyo to make them soar higher than they ever had before…
And shortly after entering high school, that was about the time Kizakura scouted Sayaka for Hope’s Peak. It came down between Sayaka and Kinari… and it was Sayaka that made the cut. The consequences of that were… volatile. They were always going to be. The idol industry was cutthroat, and Kinari’s agency had been keeping up with Sayaka’s… And for Sayaka to get accepted to Hope’s Peak… It doomed Kinari to the underground gigs.
Still, none the wiser, Sayaka went on to become classmates with Makoto… And before long, her students joined Hope’s Peak as well, in the Reserve Course. And as they made up for lost time, getting to know Makoto… they retrieved some of that purity, love, and compassion they’d lost for years. They recalled the reasons they became idols in the first place, and now Sayaka wants to do her part to fix some of the damage she did and help girls recover from being in the idol industry… if she can.

Did not proofread! Enjoy the horrid au that has haunted my since spring of 2021. It genuinely helped me with my mental health but it's also horrible and weird and I don't know what came over my friend and I when we came up with it <3 it was also conceived over a 4 week period, we just kept piling stuff onto it. The Caellach x Valter part of this au is just the tip of the ice berg and there's so much more bs with the other Grado generals, some antagonists from fe6, 7, 13, 14 and also Silque from fesov. She's not an antagonist even in the slightest, I just was obsessed with her for a long time. I have not played fesov.
Vital information:
The mobile spinoff (fe heroes) takes place in a country called Askr. The idea is that each fe game is a seperate world but the FEH protag, Kiran, can summon them to Askr and use them in their army. It's just the in universe explanation for how it's a gacha game.
Also I am. so very sorry. for how ooc this is.
So it starts with Caellach finding out Valter and Linus (don't look him up, you'll get spoilers) had a fling a while ago. Caellach is homophobic so he goes around telling everyone else that Valter and Linus are gross and gay. The rest of the friend group (Grado generals and some other gba villains you don't know) are all queer though so they're just like "and? Idc".
Groups starts bullying Caellach for being a homophobe and it evolves into a joke that Caellach is just jealous of Linus cause he wanted to be with Valter.
Narcian (don't google him) gets the genius idea of offering Valter large amounts of money to date Caellach. Valter explains the situation to Caellach and they agree to fake date and split the money 50/50.
As all fake dating stories go, they end up falling love and just start real dating. Caellach also really really cares about Valter so he starts actively working to improve himself as a person cause he wants to be a good bf. Remember this for later.
Skip to 5 years later. I don't remember if it was 5 or 3. Valter and Caellach are happily married with some adopted kids and a cat called Minty. You don't need to know all of them, the important one is Marianne.
Joshua gets summoned to Askr. Caellach has had time to improve and become a better person, but for Joshua, Ismaire's death was only like a week ago.
Obviously Joshua he's pissed. He knows Caellach has become better but still absolutely despises him so he starts harassing him and basically just digging up a lot of old stuff.
This goes on for a while and stuff escalates until Caellach commits suicide. Valter does not deal with this well at all and ends up neglecting his kids and becoming an alcoholic.
As the oldest, Marianne ends up having to take care of the others, which creates a big rift between her and Valter.
Sothis, who has been here the whole time sorry I didn't mention her before, gets tired of seeing Valter like this and helps him fix his life. He tries repairing his relationship with his kids but it doesn't go very well.
Anyway more time passes and Valter makes a deal with Sothis. If she makes him immortal, he'll open an orphanage.
Reason for doing this: him and Caellach both had abusive parents (not in canon, this is a hc) so they had a dream of opening an orphanage to help kids who'd been hurt.
Valter has that orphanage for 10 000 years somehow. I don't know where the number 10 000 came from. At this point, he doesn't remember Caellach at all or why he opened the orphanage, but he's found someone else he trusts to take over it when he dies (Ninian) so he asks Sothis to kill him.
She does. He wakes up in the afterlife and remembers Caellach. They reunite :3 the end :3
Other stuff:
The cat Minty. Oh my GOSH Minty. The thing about her is that she can see ghosts and Valter can talk to animals (I can't for the life of me remember where that came from) so Valter would say something then Minty would say what Caellach's ghost responded with. Absolutely horrible method of communication. Minty also hates Valter a bit so she'd sometimes lie and say Caellach said something horrible.
Full list of kids adopted by Caellach and Valter: Marianne, Hector, Reginn, Rebecca, Raigh, Lugh and Chad. Do not look up the last four, you'll get spoilers for stuff. Anyway after a while, my friend and I kinda forgot about Hector, Reginn and Rebecca so they don't even really count anymore.
I think this fic is what was lying within from the far reaches of hell that made whoever read it go mad. ive observed truly forbidden information and now must live with it
gotta say imagining a fake dating plotline with valter and caellach is extremely funny to me. imagining any kind of ship trope with these two is funny to me actually because they’re just. they’re just them. I don’t have a better way to explain this sorry

i hope im not too late !
mind: does my muse have any mental conditions that affect their lives? what are they? how do they handle them? what coping methods do they use most?
//Yep, though they really prefer to keep things to themselves regarding their mental health since it's technically improved beyond the worst.
//Back in Naranja-Uva she had a pretty severe bout of major depression, to the point of just... not leaving the room, not making food, not taking care of herself, not talking to anybody or answering calls... it was pretty much entirely because of his Pokémon that he came out of that with a diagnosis and actual help. Poor Wolfgang knows how to cook for a reason. They're much healthier now, but... they're still pretty unsure about their value in the world, and still don't enjoy things as much as they wish they could. They tend to try and fix that by doing everything they possibly can do. It's more overwhelming than helpful.
//She also dealt with PTSD much more as a younger person, but she got pretty aggressive therapy for it at around 12-15. If it weren't for that she'd still be quaking at fire-types. And enclosed spaces. The second one has sort of come back lately thanks to Tiny Sphere Kidnapping, but... again, he tends to keep quiet about it. It comes up more as general unease, a stronger scare response, and avoidance of anywhere particularly cramped or where they could get trapped, though nightmares have kind of been coming up too.

headcanons on technology in the naruto world?
Honestly, my headcanons on technology in the Naruto world are pretty accurately represented by the List of Technologies article on the wiki.
I can really only speak to the Naruto series itself, and not Boruto since that series looks like it turned into some sort of sci fi, fantasy thing lol.
So if we are talking about the normal run of Naruto, I think the technology is pretty on par with the 90s - early 2000s tech that you would see in reality.
Health Care
Perhaps the Narutoverse is more advanced in medicine, but not in the same ways as our modern medicine. I think because of their ability to use chakra, they're able to fix stuff that...really would be irreversibly broken in our universe.
I think they would have a waaay easier time fixing paralysis from a broken back, reattaching limbs, and fixing nerve damage. Weirdly enough, I think that because their medical advancement is less "science" based and more "jutsu" based, they're actually super behind in treating things via vaccines, and so illnesses is not the thing to have in the Narutoverse. They probably have some form of superstition around anti-biotics, where most inaccurately refer to them as "antidotes." For example, I head canon that there's a form of "desert lung" common in The Land of Wind, which is a fungal infection. They do have the cure for this, which are anti-fungals, but people always attribute the cure to an "antidote" likely because more research has gone into creating and curing poison rather that microscopic living organisms, so the common person just doesn't know the difference.
They also likely have a lot less cold medicine and over the counter pain meds, mostly because there isn't much research in that field, but also because ninja tend to not want to rely on medication that could dampen their physical state....Like they would rather be in agony than take pain meds with drowsiness as a side affect, and unless it's something to help them persevere like soldier pill they won't take it.
Also:
Maternity care? Hot garbage. Mental illness awareness and support? Non-existent. Having your lower half separated from your upper half? No problem, bro, we got you.
Their advancement in things like medicine, vaccines, maternity and mental health care does improve drastically by the end of the series as countries begin sharing their research with one another.
Entertainment & Other Tech
They have things like TVs, radios, movies, VHS, Tapes and (believe it or not) cellphones. The cellphones, however, are like...nearly just bricks. They work, but signal is only ever good on common roads between villages and the call quality is grainy at best. Landlines, however, are a much better experience and they make phone calls all the time lol. Gaara doesn't keep a phone in his office because he has someone (like a receptionist) doing that for him.
TVs, movies and radios are pretty much the same as us, CGI is rare but puppetry and other special effects are amazing.
It's common to have TV but not everyone had cable. Very rich people have satellite TV, which isn't that great...Mostly it's just a status symbol.
Speaking of satellites, they do have those but space advancement is really really slow. Probably they have like 3 satellites up there for each country and there are probably hundreds more that just failed getting launched successfully.
Now as for satellites, they don't have GPS. Why would they? They can just use sensor type ninjas, so they are like "paper maps and raw instinct will do."
Travel
They have combustion engines, but they run off coal and are strictly used for navel vessels and steam trains; albeit both of these are rare. Mostly, they prefer to use electric sourced methods of travel (like their bullet train or whatever they have in Boruto) but that is super expensive and only for the rich in the beginning of the series. It becomes way more useful to everyday people after the war arc.
Weapons
They are probably on par with us. Sure, they don't have nukes but a person can blow apart a village with sheer energy force so...Do they really need them? Plus, letter bombs....crazy.
Anyways, I think guns likely do exist in the early Naruto universe, but they're suuuper bootleg. Like it would be pretty sketchy to try using one because they're just...not very well designed. Canons are much more common.
Conclusion:
They're on par with us...Better in some ways, much worse than use in some.

ROXANA (Chapter 20)
After Cassis entered the bathroom, I collected the trays and torn pieces of clothing on the floor. The bowl was empty, and it seemed like he had finished his painkillers, too. It was fortunate that Cassis was keeping his head down and being obedient right now.
If he tried to escape in his current state, even if he succeeded in leaving the mansion, he would surely be killed by a monster before crossing the boundary.
Suddenly, the rushing sound of water from the bathroom jolted me out of my thoughts.
The door was slightly ajar because of the leash attached to Cassis, and the whole situation bothered me slightly. But it wasn’t worth it to bother, and I called in a butterfly.
A dark red butterfly answered my command, fluttering through the wall. Now, if something were to happen to Cassis in this room when I wasn’t here, I would receive a signal of it through the butterfly.
In reality, I had wanted to install some surveillance equipment in this room, but I was afraid that he might notice.
In the end, I resorted to a more simple and subtle method, one which I’d used to keep an eye on the Western border as well. However, news from those butterflies was delayed, which worried me. I thought the Pedelians were looking for Cassis around the border… Are they still there?
I was about to conjure one more butterfly, but Cassis existed the bathroom. He looked more normal.
“Come and sit down.” I beckoned him over to the bed, which I was already sitting on.
Cassis regarded the bandages and bottles of medicine lying next to me, and understood the purpose of my words. “I can do it myself.”
“Really? What about the wounds on your back?”
He frowned, and I tilted my head as if to ask what was wrong.
“Don’t worry, I’ve been doing this since I was a child. I have a lot of practice, so I’m good at it.” To be honest, it would have been better if I called the physician for treatment, but I thought this was a good opportunity to show Cassis a kindness and increase rapport- as well as his debt towards me.
“You’ve been doing this a lot since childhood?” Cassis asked suspieciously.
It was apparent that he was unaware of the Agriche way of life.
“Yes, I treated my younger brother every day when he got injured.” This was only partially true- I did indeed heal Asil’s wounds when we were children, but I’d exaggerated the severity of his treatments. The only reason he was injured was because he had a poor constitution, both in health and mentality.
There was a time when my mother and I treated him, since calling the physician was too inconvenient every time. But I was young still, so how much could I really help with? At best, all I did was plaster a bandage to his wounds.
However, my healing abilities have improved over the years, and I’ve had more practice taking care of my own wounds.
Cassis was still standing next to me, looking down. His face was consumed by the shadows, making his expression difficult to ascertain. He hadn’t moved from that spot for quite some time, and it made me feel study.
Suddenly, he began to unbutton his shirt, and it fell down to the floor.
“I can treat the other places myself.” So I suppose I’ll just treat the back, then.
Cassis’ guard seemed lowered in the moment, and I narrowed my eyes to look at his scarred back.
The wound was bleeding again, likely opened by the water from the shower. I started wiping the blood from his skin with a clean towel; the moment I made contact, Cassis’ arm squirmed slightly.
By the way, his muscles are quite defined, aren’t they?
It was clear that Cassis had worked quite hard at exercising, since I couldn’t find a single trace of cellulite. Truly, it would have been devastating if Charlotte had injured him more.
Looking at him more closely, his bones were straight and perfect; the vertebral bones and shoulder blades, in particular. Some of my brothers had a horrid penchant for collecting organs and bones. If they saw Cassis up close, they’d drool.
Why is this person so perfect- not only was his face pretty, but his bones, too? I glanced at Cassis with kind eyes. He really did fit the Agriche victim aesthetic, and I couldn’t help but feel pity for him and his devastating fate in the novel.
Let’s stop daydreaming and get back to work. I moved my hand again.
Come to think of it, Cassis was being quite silent, and the dead quiet of the room began to unnerve me. I glanced up at his head, only to realize he was gripping his back.
“Does the place I’m touching hurt?” My voice rang out in the silence. “If it does, tell me. I’ll be more careful.”
I loosened my grip on the cloth I was using, and applied the salve to the wound slower and more gently. “How about now?”
Suddenly, Cassi moved quickly, and a firm hand grabbed my wrist.
“Okay. You can stop now.” His cold voice echoed through my ears. Before I even had the chance to react, Cassis pushed my had away, picked up his shirt, and dressed himself again.
Hmm… He is still a man, after all.
I pretended not to notice his sheepishness and said in a soft voice, “I’ll treat the other wounds.”
“Don’t bother.” His rejection was swift and crushing, and I left the room shortly after.
Walking through the corridor, a flurry of thoughts entered my mind. Why had Cassis lowered and upped his guard so impulsively? I just couldn’t understand what he was thinking.

Anon wrote: Hi, Apologies for lengthy post. I have question for family dynamic. I am from south asian region where family is closely tied to individual compared to western culture.
I have ENTJ dad and INFP mom, I have guessed their types. My dad had very good career which he earned by himself through struggle. He is brilliant but has very huge ego in general. My mom is mostly in her own world, she barely does her duties towards family or home. There is no specific illness that she has but in general she is always like this. People used to call her lazy.
Due to my mom's ignorance towards us, me and my brother weren't raised with attention. I got very low self esteem as I grew up because I never used to have proper things or tiffin, dresses etc as she never paid attention. No one taught us social manners or they did not encourage us to have any new experience. They were not having any specific constraints like money but it was matter of awareness and willingness.
I was good in studies so somehow I completed my college and got into good career. Despite of my skill, as my personality was not developed properly, I had to pay huge price for my low self esteem, social skills etc.. finally I learnt MBTI, learnt some psychology and improved myself, it's still in progress.
My brother could not pick up on things, he is close to 30 years now but does not have any meaning to earn for living. He is directionless in life. I tried hard to get him line for last 6 7 years but even my parents did not support my efforts. Now they blame him for not being independent. He had to depend on them for his day to day spending.
Issue is, despite of all this, my parents do not see any issue in their behaviour. They have not supported me, helped me for anything. They are somehow indifferent to my problems, achievements etc. I have my own family now, husband and kid and I am content with it. But due to my parents behaviour, it is being difficult for me to maintain relations with them without any stress. I am not practically dependent on them for anything but I worry for brother a lot. And as I am having less relations with them, I feel very rootless like I dont have any place to fall back. Is this situation really weird or I am overreacting to it.
-----------------
You seem to be describing childhood neglect. It's not loud and attention grabbing like physical violence, so many people don't know that neglect is also a very common form of child abuse. As long as the parents are not fulfilling their duties and obligations of caring properly for their child's basic physical and psychological needs, it is considered child abuse. Child abuse can occur in any family of any social status. It is sadly not uncommon for children of wealthy parents to be neglected because the parents only recognize physical/material needs as important and overlook the rest.
It's good news that you've been able to live a well-functioning life despite parental neglect. However, it's important to remember that the long term negative effects of neglect are often internal and difficult to identify. I think your brother is a typical example of how neglect can impede personal growth. He seems to suffer learned helplessness and probably requires professional help to overcome it.
Chronic neglect has a negative effect on children's development and makes them much more susceptible to mental health problems later in life:
They are more likely to suffer low self-esteem and low self-worth and have difficulties with self-care due to believing themselves undeserving of love and care.
They are more likely to suffer emotional dysregulation (depression and anxiety), personality disorders, or learned helplessness because of not having been taught healthy coping methods and problem solving skills.
They are more likely to engage in self-destructive behavior as a means of punishing themselves, getting attention, or numbing the shame/pain of feeling unloved.
They are more likely to be socially isolated or suffer relationship problems because they don't understand what it means to give, receive, and express love in healthy ways.
Being neglected as a child, it's normal to feel an underlying sense of insecurity or "rootlessness", because you never really had a strong sense of security to begin with. Parents are supposed to be a source of comfort and safety. When they aren't, who else can you turn to? There are a lot of bad parents in the world, so there are a lot of people out there feeling detached, lonely, and unloved.
This is why the concept of "found family" or "chosen family" has become more important in modern society, since people have more freedom to roam and live away from immediate family. Some neglected children have closer ties with more distant relations like aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. Some people are raised more by teachers, mentors, friends, or a community of elders. Upon leaving home to build a life of their own, some young adults find spaces to congregate and support each other much as siblings do. Many LGBTQ+ people are rejected by their family members, so they have no choice but to look in other places for familial love.
It is possible to form relationships that are just as or even more deep, meaningful, and supportive than the parent-child relationship. However, in order to benefit from these alternative social structures, you have to let go of some old ideas about what a "traditional" family should look like.
As a general rule, as long as you hold on very tightly to beliefs about what reality "should" be instead of accepting and working with the reality of what is, you will always feel dissatisfied or unhappy. This includes expectations about what your parents "should" be. Your negative feelings about them are valid and it's a normal response to feel as though you've been robbed of a happy childhood. At this point in your life, you have to ask yourself: "Do I want this regret/resentment to hold me back from living my life well? Do I want to keep hoping for my parents to change and then feel disappointed when they don't? Do I want to keep asking for their love and then feel hurt when they just can't give it?" If not, it's better to gracefully accept the truth about them and make the choice to put your time and energy into relationships that have more potential for growth.

Let's look at the various forms of psychological therapy available:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A well-known treatment method called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aims to recognize and alter unfavorable thought patterns. By recognizing and addressing these ideas, people can manage disorders like anxiety, melancholy, and stress efficiently. Through CBT, you acquire practical abilities to change your negative thinking.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT combines techniques that encourage mindfulness with cognitive behavioral treatment. Those who struggle with strong emotions, risky behavior, and interpersonal problems benefit the most from it. DBT teaches individuals how to control their feelings, strengthen interpersonal bonds, and encourage self-acceptance.
Psychodynamic Therapy
This therapy focuses mostly on the unsolved problems and unconscious mechanisms that influence your ideas and behaviour. To uncover ingrained patterns and advance consciousness and personal development, psychodynamic therapy digs into past interactions and experiences.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT places a strong focus on accepting one's ideas and feelings as opposed to trying to repress them. It helps people define their values and make a commitment to upholding them. This therapy effectively treats anxiety while enhancing general wellbeing.
Mindfulness-Based Therapies
Self-awareness and present-moment awareness are encouraged in therapies that place a strong emphasis on mindfulness. These therapies include:
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR):Through the practice of moderate yoga and mindfulness meditation, MBSR aims to reduce stress and promote emotional control.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT): Since the MBCT program combines cognitive therapy techniques with mindfulness training, it can benefit people who have recurrent depression.
Humanistic Therapies
The goals of humanistic therapies are the pursuit of self-actualization, self-growth, and self-discovery. These consist of:
Person-Centred Therapy: In the encouraging, nonjudgmental environment of this treatment, people can examine their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Gestalt Therapy: The value of fully experiencing the present moment is emphasized by gestalt therapy. It promotes self-awareness and accountability.
Family Systems Therapy
Understanding how a person's ties with their family impact their mental health is the aim of family systems therapy. It tries to promote harmony within the family and communication.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
In IPT, emphasis is placed on interpersonal and communication skills. Both treating depression and resolving interpersonal conflicts can be done using it.
Narrative Therapy
Examining the narratives we tell about our lives is an essential component of narrative therapy. Retelling and recreating these tales can offer people fresh perspective and a sense of empowerment.
Behavioural Therapy
Behavioral therapy seeks to alter a behavior by identifying the reinforcers of that behavior. For phobias, OCD, and other conditions, there are two methods of treatment: behavior modification and exposure therapy.
Last but not least, each therapy has its unique technique and benefits. A licensed therapist can help you discuss your options and help you discover the option that best suits your needs.
