Kodomo no Kuni (コドモノクニ)
Cover Christmas Issue, Dec 1922
Kiichi Okamoto
“The Land of Children” (Kodomo no kuni), started in 1922 toward the end of the Taisho period, Kodomo no kuni ran until 1944—a total of 287 volumes—visually chronicling the development of Japanese modernism and rapidly changing definitions of childhood in the lead up to World War II.
Kodomo no kuni stood out in what is often called the “golden age” of Japanese children’s magazines because of its high artistic standards and the long duration of its publication.

Tokyo Mew Mew illustrations from the May 2002 issue of Tanoshii Youchien (Fun Kindergarten) Magazine. One of the interesting things about this little preview was that whoever drew and colored it gave Ichigo pink hair and eyes in civilian form, similar to how she was colored in the original manga series.
This magazine basically shows short, illustrated previews of new kids anime/shows, along with word games, puzzles and furoku for currently airing shows. This particular issue also had previews for Digimon Frontier, Ojamajo Doremi Dokkān, Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger (Power Rangers Ninja Storm) and others.

After becoming known thanks to this publication, this photo became truly iconic when they started using it as a chocolate wrapper for Alyonka.
