Hau was looking at you, cheeks full of Malasada and crumbs along his mouth. It would have been comical had his eyes not looked so concerned. “You haven’t touched your treat.”

“Oh?” You looked back down at your abandoned Malasada, stomach turning at the thought of eating. “I don’t want it. You can have it though.”

Hau’s eyes widened before shaking  his head, finishing his mouthful and wiping away the remains. “No, no- that’s not what I meant! Well…if you don’t want it- you seem down!” He snapped himself back on track, turning so he was properly facing you. “Did something happen?”

You paused, debating on whether you wanted to share or not. His face was so open, so kind. The idea of bringing his mood down with yours made your chest hurt.

“No, it’s alright.” You decided, trying to smile. “Here, before it gets too cold.”

Hau stared at you, unblinking. Then he took the offered Malasada, putting it aside. The next thing you knew, you were pulled into his chest, wrapped in his arms. He smelled like cinnamon and the ocean.

“You don’t have to protect me, (Y/N). If you’re feeling upset, you can talk to me. I’m your friend.” He rested his chin against the crown of your head, rubbing soothing circles against your back. “You always listen to me when I’m upset- I’ll always listen to you. And if you don’t want to talk, that’s alright. We can just stay here for a while.”

You could barely respond, lips quivering as tears filled your eyes. Not trusting your voice, you reached out and hugged him back, letting out a shaky sigh as he squeezed you tighter. “Tha-anks Hau.”

HARD-TO-FIND HURT / COMFORT ACTION PROMPTS.

a selection of some of my favorite underrepresented situations and actions for one of my favorite tropes! feel free to add + REVERSE to any of the prompts to change the situation and provide context as necessary. do not add to this list.  

CRADLE : sender picks up the injured / unconscious receiver and holds them close to their chest, carrying them to safety. 

GUARDIAN : facing down a threat, sender pushes receiver back with an arm, moving to stand in front of them and protecting them with their own body.

TENDER : receiver wakes up to sender caressing them gently; a hand carding through their hair, brushing hair off their forehead, a hand on their cheek, a thumb swiping under their eye.

SHELTER : seeing a threat barreling toward them (such as a storm, the shockwave from an explosion, or a building they’re in collapsing), sender holds the injured / incapacitated receiver close, turning their back to the threat to bear the brunt of the impact instead of the receiver.

FLICKER : sender thinks they’re too late to save receiver and begins to mourn them / sinks in defeat and grief, holding them close, only to find through a simple action (a cough, a twitch of a hand, a murmured word) that they haven’t left them after all. 

DELIRIUM : receiver wakes up to sender’s relief, only for receiver to not believe it’s really sender (that they’re imagining sender or that they don’t think sender would come for them) or that they’re finally safe. 

CONCEAL : both muses have been injured or have fallen ill, though sender keeps their injury / illness secret in favor of taking care of receiver. however, as receiver gets better, sender’s injury / illness worsens from lack of care, and they wind up collapsing, their injury / illness fully revealed. 

GUIDE : sender has been injured, but their skills are needed to help with the muses’ current situation (an escape plan, tending a wound, or diffusing a weapon, for example). sender has to walk receiver through the procedure, all the while trying to stay conscious. 

SAVIOR : receiver is at the mercy of a threat, and all seems lost, only for sender to suddenly burst in and come to their rescue, bearing weapons and all the protective spirit they can muster, to the relief / confusion / anger of receiver.

soft sentence prompts : “i will never let you go”

your late night thoughts had, unfortunately, followed you to bed that evening.

it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences, of course, but nightmares shouldn’t be a huge deal for you anymore. you were grown now, you’d like to think, and a part of you was telling that you couldn’t be afraid of something so so silly.

but a part of you simply couldn’t shake it off. you knew such dreams were simply irrational and perhaps a manifestation of your fears or unconscious thoughts, to some extent; but it all felt so real, uncomfortably real.

“here.” you’re still shaking ever so slightly when your boyfriend hands you a cup of what smelt like chamomile tea, perfect for relaxing and going back to sleep. it’s warm, enough to help your shivers and goosebumps that cover your skin. but it wasn’t quite enough; you’re still a bit frightened, or well, definitely lost in your thoughts about it. you know you shouldn’t believe everything your mind tells you, but it’s difficult not to.

“do you need anything else?” ichiro is so sweet, even amidst being woken up by your nightmare and small sniffles. his eyes are very much full of concern and care, and his touch is so heavy but comforting in that way. he’s the perfect boyfriend, sweet as nectar and soft as snow. you wonder if that dream you had could ever come true.

you can’t help but wonder if he’s annoyed; it’s simply all priming from your dream, you know that, but the thought still enters your head. he could leave at anytime, he very well could—it was a choice he had. this whole life that the two of you built, he’s leave it behind, and you’d feel all broken.

“please just…stay with me.” your voice is low, and you try hard to conceal the way your voice wants to crack. you really just need some comfort right now, to be comforted by his love and reassured that your nightmare was nothing more than just that. you needed to know that you were crazy, that he’d never just suddenly fall out of love one day so out of the blue.

“of course.” ichiro obliges; you were a top priority of his, nothing less. and he huddles into you, knowing exactly what you needed at the moment—his warmth and touch. you needed to feel that he was there, to hear how his heart still skips a beat when you lay on his chest. ichiro knows your needs and wants, knows exactly how to comfort a shaken you.

and it feels nice, much different than that dream. he’s close and warm, not distant and cold. his touch is the same as you remember, rough but still, well, warm i suppose. it’s the comfort that suddenly comes over you, the fatigue that hits.

“i will never let you go,” he suddenly voices so out of the blue. y’know that, right? as if he was reading your mind word-for-word. and of course he knew exactly what to say at the moment; like i said, ichiro knew how to comfort you exactly, can read you like an open book. it makes you a little shy and embarrassed, worried that he knows how silly of a dream you had. but it’s exactly the words you needed to hear to fully comfort your mind and heart.

and with your hands intertwined at the moment, it surely felt as such.
