It truly baffles and angers me at how ignorant people want to remain about covid. I get it, I wish I could live in a world where this virus isn’t deadly or disabling but the truth of the matter is that it is. We know that with each covid infection you will get sicker- symptoms or no. We know that it weakens your blood vessels and can cause people who are high risk or perfectly healthy alike to have heart attacks. We know it can cause tachycardia, chronic fatigue, lower lung capacity, all of it. We know all this, and people still just want to forget about it. And the people who do just forget about it or ignore it, and in doing so act like it just doesn’t exist, are so incredibly selfish. They want to live in their world they’ve made up in their heads where it isn’t a problem while making it worse for everyone by not adhering to any covid measures and little it run rampent.
The world is on fire and some of us are screaming out to help us put it out while others think it’s unfair we are ruining their piece of mind.

Covid in Australia 2020
The virus has spread,
It has invaded our shores.
‘Girt by sea’
Doesn’t protect us anymore.
Before it was a distant problem,
Wuhan stats on a page.
Something to interrupt our travel plans,
Noise on the world stage.
We held our breath that it would spare us,
but it is no longer a stranger.
It is spreading through our nation,
Our elderly most in danger.
We are learning to socially distance,
We are trying to stay at home.
Washing our hands diligently,
Keeping connected on the phone.
We are receiving mixed messages,
Schools are open - but please don’t go!
The pandemic becomes secondary to economics,
Countries scared their money won’t grow.
They attempt to balance the fear and the panic,
But they all fall into the same trap.
We are too slow to make changes,
sadly there will be no going back.
There will be countless lives lost,
There will be behavioural change,
Peoples mental health with suffer,
All on the world stage
The virus doesn’t discriminate
Everybody is in danger
Religion, race or gender
Is irrelevant to this new stranger.

Study reveals long-term impacts of Covid infection in 1.28 million people
A new study on the long-term impacts of Covid infection in more than 1.2 million people has revealed some shocking truths.
A study published in The Lancet Psychiatry Journal has investigated the prevalence of 14 different neurological and psychiatric symptoms up to two years after infection.
On Monday morning, broadcaster and author Dr Norman Swan told ABC Radio National that it was the “best study to date” that showed Covid infection had long-term effects.
“Essentially, the risk of mood and anxiety disorders went up after Covid-19 infection,” Dr Swan said.

A heap of my description vanished on the Redbubble preview, so I wanted to put it somewhere safe.
COVID is not over. But neither is comedy.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is one of the highlights of my year. Before COVID, and Melbourne's shutdown, I would go almost every night after work and see dozens of shows. When COVID came onto the scene in 2020, I was one of the people who asked MICF if we would be able to opt to give the costs of our tickets to the artists instead of receiving refunds.
I ventured out between lockdowns when it was held in a much more subdued fashion to see some of my die-hard favourites. In 2023, I planned my schedule to ensure plenty of time outside between shows, away from crowds, and masked at every show. I was cautious as hell, as were friends who I attended with, and yet I had an absolute blast—and I didn't get sick.
COVID is not over. But neither is comedy. I designed this work to showcase that feeling of joy I still get from attending live comedy, while also remaining mindful of the risks, in hopes that other people will enjoy this design as well.
I purchased the original stock art of the laughing people from iStock (credit: jesadaphorn) and added the masks myself in Photoshop, also recolouring some of the people to reflect the diversity in MICF performers and audiences.
I don't know what, if any, profit I will make from this, but I will donate 10% of any profit I earn to Oxfam, selected due to its ties to MICF and its COVID-19 response.
Thank you for reading and for considering this design. It came from the heart.

It fucking sucks for everyone involved. Mav knows that and the longer this apocalyptic (that's how it feels, at least) goes on he also knows the harder it is to follow the rules. But he knows that it means it keeps Ice safe, that's all that matters. The treatment is rigorous enough, but their self-enforced isolation abolishes their creature comforts. No late night cuddling, morning forehead kisses.
Taking leave for treatment cut out a lot of Ice's contact with the general public, but for Mav his world keeps ticking. The Darkstar is a year away now, from being finished and it's all coming down to crunch time. The supply chain market is affecting even military orders from suppliers, the dead line feels like it's getting extended every week. It means that every day he's out dealing with people whilst the rest of the world is locked up. He's metres away from people, masked to the nines and face shielded.
He's this close to showering in Dettol. Because of his exposure, he and Ice made the decision three weeks ago that whilst Ice underwent another round of treatment it's better that they not risk Mav carrying something into their home. It's left Maverick confined to his barracks. The mess hall is...other wordly. He's never seen it so empty. Every where is empty, sectioned off.
It's wearing his patience thin. Maybe that's why he lost his shit.
They're young, maybe with young parents and young grandparents and over all boringly healthy family. Maybe they just couldn't take the dystopian world anymore and just needed to talk to someone without a mask. Maverick doesn't care.
Two of them in the common room, masks down. A half metre apart. Maverick walks past, tired, missing Ice and just at the end of his tether. He falters, doesn't recognise them. Maybe the anger forces their identities from his mind.
"Are you fucking stupid?" He spits, feeling his breath fill his N95 mask. "Are you fucking stupid?"
The ensigns jump apart and pull their masks up but it's too late.
"If I see you doing that shit again you are gone. Do you understand me?"
They nod joltingly. But it's not enough. He's angry.
"We are the gold standard. The fucking NAVY. I'm on the phone every fucking night with Admirals, congressman. The country is looking to us to see their patriotic fucking aviators doing the right thing. I get this is hard, believe me. I'm here, protecting my husband by isolating from him as he undergoes cancer treatment. I don't want to see this shit ever again. You transmit the virus, and they die, it's on you. You carried it, you killed them. Get to your fucking barracks."
The ensigns scram and he's left breathing hard, tears pricking his eyes.
That night he's sending a voice message to Ice when his husband sends a message first.
I: I heard you lost it today.
"...The supply- Yeah I did," he continues in the voice message. "Couple of ensigns standing close without masks on in the common area. Told them they'd be gone if I caught them doing that shit again."
He sends a message and waits for Ice to hear it and text back.
I: Yeah no, Hollywood caught wind of the whole thing. Test, isolate, come home. Just for a while. We can forget the word for a while.
M: I will when you finnish immunotherapy. I'll take leave, let Hondo watch the darkstar for me.
I: We'll watch the world burn together

I am furious. I’m furious at the community, my government, the people who have decided to ignore covid or refuse to acknowledge that we have a problem. We are getting more cases than ever, but nothing is being done because it would be an inconvenience or cause backlash for some politicians from selfish people who don’t care about why or how their actions impact others. I feel hopeless. And lost. And angry. And hurt. Why is something so simple yet so effective, so controversial?

Jerry meets up with a guerrilla gardening group taking over empty public spaces to grow food for those that need it, sharing growing skills to increase community resilience. Subscribe 🔔 http://ab.co/GA-subscribe
Over the pandemic lockdowns, many of us were alarmed by images of empty supermarket shelves and supply shortages. Rather than running out and hoarding toot-roll, a group of young people saw it as an opportunity to provide for the vulnerable in their community and rethink how public space was being used.
Al Wicks says they’d “always had the pipe-dream of doing community gardens…over covid me and my friends started getting worried about food security for vulnerable people in the community”.
One of these friends was Ruby Thorburn, who says “there was an overwhelming sense of fear, seeing these empty supermarkets. We wanted to produce food overnight…to avoid red tape and bureaucracy and use direct action”.
In response, they formed “Growing Forward”, a community organisation dedicated to setting up guerrilla community gardens in underutilised public space. We’re visiting a site they’ve successfully converted from forgotten space to thriving community gardens with a purpose.
What started out with a bit of rule bending, has now garnered support of the whole community – including the council.
“We looked around and found a plot of land that was owned by the state government, but had been abandoned for over 90 years. Our neighbour works in council and looked into contamination reports that had been done on the soil and found it was good” says Ruby.
Leaning on Ruby’s permaculture background, they conducted a site assessment and identified a tap for water supply and a promising full-sun aspect. “The goal was community food resilience, and to get people thinking differently about food”.
After speaking with local indigenous elders to gain their permission to use the land, the group studied successful guerrilla community gardens to try to replicate what factors had made them work.
The first was wide community consultation. Every house in the surrounding area to the proposed garden was repeatedly doorknocked, to canvas any issues or concerns with establishing the garden- and identify anyone who was willing to help. Flyers were also distributed.
The next was rapid implementation. “Our goal was to set it up in 2 days, to skip the uncertain period where people are not sure what’s going on” says Ruby. “We just went ahead and did it” says Al.
“We brought in about 20 m2 of soil, and spent our personal money on it” says Al. “It took about a day to get it all in, there was a lot of community support”. While a lot of elbow grease went into the set-up, there’s no permanent infrastructure, which helps avoid the ire of bureaucrats
The first garden is at West End, in inner-south Brisbane, and it’s been a total success. Occupying around ¼ acre, it’s ringed by edible native plants with mounded beds of vegetables inside.
Everything grown goes back into the community to feed those who need it most. “The founding principles were doing free work for the community, and the produce is free”. “We have signs saying this food is going to vulnerable people, and it seems to work”.
At West End the produce goes to refugees living in the community, so Al and Ruby asked the refugee community organisation what they would like to eat. Accordingly, the fare is a little more diverse than what’s on offer at the shops, with sweet potato, okra, cassava, elephant foot yams and papaya thriving. It’s also become a place for meetings and picnics.
The approach has been a big success, regularly supplying food to community organisations and those most vulnerable, as well as building local connections. The program has expanded.
Featured Plants:
PAW PAW - Carica papaya cv.
SWEET POTATO - Ipomoea batatas cv.
CHILLI - Capsicum cv.
PUMPKIN ‘JAP’ - Cucurbita maxima cv.
OKRA - Abelmoschus esculentus cv.

So, I'm starting to suspect this flu might be Covid so I tried to order some RAT tests and... Why the fuck is it $44 to get them delivered? That's just delivery fee btw, the tests themselves were $25 (for a pack of 5) The chemist it's getting delivered from is literally around the corner - I just don't want to go into the shop and you know, spread this around for what I hope is obvious reasons.
So far as I can tell, it's because we're considered a rural delivery address, but even so, $44 are you serious?? I know postage in Australia has gotten expensive but that's ridiculous, especially because, again, the physical store is literally around the corner.

Wow. This email from a UK hospital instructs healthcare workers not to test for COVID because it might keep them out of work for longer. What happened to "do no harm"?
