MY STORIES ARE AS FOLLOWS

RELIGIONVERSE: set in 1950s new york city following an angel named theodore who is very much not supposed to be on earth. other key characters are his wife (cecily) his weird priest situationship (elijah) god (deity) and luci (satan) ALSO I HAVE A GOOGLE DOC CHRONICLING MOST OF THE LORE THAT YOU CAN READ HERE

INDIE: weird loser named atticus stalks his partner from highschool (axel) because thats easier than addressing his deep-seated childhood trauma. other key characters are axels current girlfriend (mitchell) takes place from the time theyre in 7th grade (2012) to more or less present day (2022)

VARMINT: two twins named shad and shishka, following the long-term aftermath of their dad, damien, killing their mom, sam, and damiens subsequent outing as a prolific serial killer. and theyre also furries! ive had these characters since i was literally age 8 they are my oldest ocs and my dearest children. takes place in 2021

HOMETOWN USA: fucked up town where every resident is based on a song by tom lehrer. no real story just a bunch of guys existing. theyre going through world war III. set in a vague anachronistic alternate 1960s

G&S INC.: normal office guys. listen to andrew in drag by the magnetic fields. set in the mid to late 1990s. daniel and andrew are mitchells parents btw. and emmetts there too

RAINFOREST FLOODS: haunted waterpark! ghouls! ghosts! soul crushing life ruining guilt over things that cannot be changed! toxic yaoi! sorry im getting tired of writing these. characters are andy bruce vincent kelsey and jeff. shared with @ratsbypaulzindel. you really got a hold on me by the beatles

Also Elijah Hawthorn for best father of the year everyone!? Literally packed a knife in his daughters suitcase in case her new husband tried anything because he realised this was a contract marriage I stan!

Literally can't wait for the bickering and sexual tension between Blythe and Fate while they slowly figure out the truth! I think I'm so excited because it's been a good while since I've seen an enemies to lovers couple where both genuinely hate each other before falling in love and not one already being in love (no offence Signa and Death you guys were so hot)

I've been thinking about him lately, underrated king

Demetri is taller than his wife, period. Lol, sorry, but he is. He has go bow his head to kiss her at least a little bit. He doesn't mind though. He actually loves it.

He plans on having kids a few years into their marriage, but his creampie kink may take things in a whole other direction if his wife isn't on birth control. He leaves it up to her to decide if she's on bc or not, and they discuss whether they use other forms of protection, too. He'll wear a condom when asked. However, over all, his wife gets pregnant before they have any in depth discussions about kids.

They've talked about having kids a little bit, but it was nothing more than agreeing that, yes, they'd like to have kids, though it's always followed by a someday. We'll, someday comes sooner than either expected, but neither of them are actually surprised.

Demetri doesn't think he's ready for a baby yet. He worries about everything all at once; money, their careers, their positions in life. He doesn't know if they're financially ready for a baby. He overthinks it out of nervousness and goes to his mom to ask her all sorts of questions. I'm not joking when I say he wrote down all his questions and went down the list with her.

He doesn't chill out until the first scan, when he sees the little blob on the screen that's their baby. After that, he just cuddles her belly and mumbles to the baby about how everything us for them now.

As comical, and chaotic, as it would be to say they have multiples, they have one baby. One little baby that becomes the star of Demetri's whole world (right beside his wife of course - he has two major stars in his life now). He's the kind of dad to leap the ultrasound pictures in his wallet, and later on as many pictures of his baby's smile in there too.

He becomes a fucking servant to his pregnant wife. He waits on her hand and foot, 24/7. He's so cautious and protective as well, always linking arms with her, even just to walk to the bathroom. It's more cute than anything, he rambles when he gets nervous and protective, which makes it less overbearing and annoying.

When his child is born, he has a little boy. Healthy little thing with a mop of black hair on his head. They had no idea what to Jame him when he was born, but as soon as Demetri held him for the first time, he knew. (My personal preference is Cyrus Elijah Alexopoulos, but you can choose whatever name you'd like.)

He loves to just hold his little family in his arms and curl up around them. He feels they are safest in his arms.

Even though he's just a baby, Demetri will read him science baby books. Little books about basic sciences like nature, but also about Einstein with pretty cartoon pictures of the scientist. He just wants to teach him everything he knows and loves 🥺

His son is so giggly. He's wide eyed and observant, hitting most of his milestones early. He says "dada" a couple of months before they were expecting and Demetri cries. He doesn't just tear up, he cries. And his son wipes away his tears as Dem hugs him close. He's a smart little guy.

His baby ends up needs baby glasses, which are so adorable I swear. They get him a dark blue pair that he looks so cute in and they match his hair. When he first put them on, his little mouth fell open and he stared at his mama and dada for a long time. When they asked him if he liked them, he just smiled and clapped his hands.

It is not long before his wife is pregnant again. Their baby boy is seven months old and babbling and toddling around. They're not surprised, again. Not when he's pounding her into the mattress and sucking on her tits at nights.

They go through a bit more difficulty with the second pregnancy because it's different than what they went through with their son. All of his wife's symptoms were mild with Baby Boy Alexopoulos, but this time it's cranked up to 110. She's severely morning sick, achy all over, and has a few headaches that keep her in bed. The first trimester is a nightmare.

And then they find out they're having twins. Identical twins.

They definitely had a little photoshoot where their baby boy was wearing one of those shirts that said "new big brother" or something like that. Something cute.

Of which, he's so happy to be a big brother. He hugs his mama's growing belly all the time and gives it little kisses. There are plenty of pictured where 1 year old Alexopoulos is kissing him mama's belly and videos of him talking to the babies. Again, Demetri cries over it.

They have identical twin girls and Demetri and his son are obsessed with them. Their little hands, their little noses. They looks more like their mama while Baby Boy obviously looks more like Demetri. They all get his eyes though.

(This is just me, ofc, but I want to call them Madison and Adelaide, Maddie and Addie for short)

His son like to take naps with his little sisters. Or if they are going to have a nap, then he likes to be nearby. He's like his dada, a little overprotective. He's a good big brother that way.

He also always tries to help whenever they cry. If mama asks him to get their pacifiers, he gets them. When mama or dada aren't right there, he tries to shush them like mama and dada do to sooth them. He pats their bellies gently and says "it's okay, it's okay." If they're just upset they calm down and he smiles at them.

Three baby stroller or two baby stroller and a single stroller for walks. As Baby Boy gets bigger, he wants to walk on his own a lot more, the extra seat for when he gets tuckered out. When the twins are walking, Dem and his wife switch to a wagon with seats and belts. The belts are important because at that point his daughter's love to just do whatever they want. They think they're invincible and can just stand up in a moving wagon.

I didn't know where to fit this in but UNCLE ELI! All his kids love Eli and always give him hugs when he comes around. He's the coolest uncle ever! They love his hair and his tattoos and his presence always makes them ask why dada doesn't have tattoos.

(Demetri does have a single tattoo but his kids are never going to see it ever. He'll be dead before they know it exists. Hell, Eli might not know about it 🤭)

ORIGIN STORIES: i've been asked a few times recently where the ideas for my characters came from, so i thought it'd compile a list.

burns, harris, juniper, burns, lila came about when i was in the third grade, reading maximum ride, enjoying x-m.en: fir.st clas.s and knew a kid named burns and thought, what if a kid named burns could control fire? i ended up writing spirit on a forum (following similar line of thought as the burns naming convention) and needed a reason for her to be alone, so i kind of built harris's personality around the need for spirit to be abandoned, and the other personalities came after that.

alex haven came about because [we @bluedprints already had theo] ezra haven said, and i quote, 'wanna get you fucking pregnant again' whilst having sex with spirit haven after their first couple's therapy session following ezra's unfaithfulness.

davy actually came about before second gen was a thing. i wanted to give juni a baby and wouldn't it just be crazy if @jupiter3's flynn was the father? then phoebe came about as we just kept adding to second gen and realized that juni/sam/flynn would have also had juni/sam kids

beck came about because i wanted more labkids one day because i was bored. @bluedprints and dax basically created the narrative of labkids with a vendetta against harris harris. tonje, dana, charlotte, river, and noel's ocs came first, then i made beck bc i felt left out

shipley (now written by @corsey) was the villain in the first spirit novel i tried to write. i knew he came from a cult, and i knew he also needed to be from a cult that no longer existed and that he was delusionally trying to continue doing the work of, so i came up with mackenzie, cass, and jm (the last of which now written by @jupiter3) to destroy the cult. i was ~losing my religion~ at the time so obviously i had to be edgy and say something about baptism and evangelical christianity as well. i ended up with elijah/shipley/mack as one triad and the throuple as another because trinities.

rachel is another product of the second gen baby boom.

rose was one of my first ocs affiliated with @bluedprints henry. we wanted siblings, we wanted sharp emotional contrast, we ended up sticking them in knight based on an idea tonje had about cult siblings that she fleshed out and invited me into

naomi is a product of the baby boom and also, doesn't rose with two beautiful baby girls and a loving husband just make sense for her arc?

graham is a product of the baby boom because @bluedprints' henry needs just one nice thing: his beautiful boys who were damaged and lost before henry.

kieran and cain came about as characters in the second version of spirit's novel. i needed a cult leader and i needed a right hand man. and then they just blossomed from there!

gabriela came about because i always knew comphet compelled cain to have sex with women during orgies in glass and second gen had a bit of a baby boom.

cullen came about because we needed some villains in second gen. naturally i made him kieran's son and the guy from you. instead, we have wife guy cullen glass (who also kills ezra haven)

alessandra came about to be an affiliated oc with @midcenturies' belén, daughter of the remarkable beatríz.

maryanne came about as an affiliated oc with @midcenturies @jupiter3 @corsey after we watched h.ustlers and wanted to engage with themes like femininity, feminism, sexuality, sexism, sex work, dubious ethics and morality, and modern survival.

adrien, kai-ming, kennedy, noah, esther, rian, jeremy, rian, and hassan were created for @bluedprints' archetype. i wanted to explore some of the same themes of surrealism and horror and obsessive artistry. i started to develop different ideas for artists/creators, their struggles, and their role in our plot.

olivia came about because of a plot i'm doing with @gildedlife coming up shortly that i'm super excited about!

hanna, veronica, and bianca came about bc @bluedprints and i wanted to give cassius and ezra some new york friends to have sloppy sex with on a regular basis. bianca specifically came about to be one of the many mothers to edwin's many children

mercutio came about bc tonje held a gun to my head and made me.

felicity came about because tonje and i put cassius through the ringer and he needed a respite. he needed the love of a good woman.

amelia came about bc i wanted felicity to have a daughter to raise with cassius :) and being a single mother before cassius made sense for her character development.

joe was created in a rp group because a) needed older skewing chars b) needed less grimy service industry rats in bands c) needed a normal guy on account of there being a werewolf waffle house

isla came about because we wanted a) california ocs for theo to interact with when they went to ucla and b) i wanted affiliated band ocs for a band called burger kink. isaac and clara followed, the former bc i wanted to give theo a sugar daddy, the latter bc i needed more evil women on my roster

elizabeth "busy" is @jupiter3's creation!

samuel came about because busy is edwin miles' (@bluedprints) oopsie daisy. aka he got her pregnant then fumbled her. yes.

rhea came about because i was watching real housewives and started thinking about people in the tourism industry having to deal with obnoxious rich people. i was further inspired by the flor.ida proje.ct

weston came about in an rp group created by @jupiter3 and others who aren't active on tumblr rn. basically they gave me a template for a final/slasher survivor and he just came about from that.

louis was an idea i had admittedly based heavily heavily heavily on an old ex who worked in restaurants with me and was putting off leaving our college town to pursue his masters.

maxwell is a product of the baby boom after we came up with the houlou ship @jupiter3

In terms of what exactly I’m open to writing? I can write headcanons, blurbs, and one-shots. Specifically smut, angst, and fluff. The more descriptive you are in your requests, the easier it is for me to write them. But I don't mind the challenge of having to make my own plot.

Radius Bellerose - Radea’s father and formerly Marquis Bellerose, now retired. He is an ambitious man but not to the point of endangering the kingdom. He loves his family and seeks only the best for them, even if it goes against their wishes. He was a bit of a jerk to Dan in the past but they got along well after Dan succeeded in becoming the Prime Minister. The death of his wife almost broke him but he pulled through for his daughters. Absolutely adores his grandchildren very; his favorite is Sophia and he loves spoiling her. A tall, imposing man with blond hair that's mostly gray and blue eyes. He has powerful wing magic.

Nicolette Bellerose - Radea’s mother and former Marchioness Bellerose; she is related to the Randall family. Currently deceased. She was very sweet and kind, a bit of a spitfire and not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. She loved her daughters and would have supported Radea's romance with Dan. She had always been a sickly woman and eventually died when her youngest daughter was five. She had a frail and delicate appearance with platinum blond hair and red eyes. She had wind magic but it was rather weak.

Marchioness Radella Bellerose - Radea’s sister, two years younger and the current Head of the Bellerose family. Her personality is a bit like Sophia's, shy and imaginative with a love for books. She was more timid when younger but gained confidence as she grew up. She admires her big sister and was supportive of her romance with Dan. She used to have a crush on Luigi Claes and wanted to be his wife; initially, she hated Millidiana for marrying him but eventually gained admiration and respect for the Duchess. Her husband died when she was pregnant with their son; his death was hard but she found the strength to continue on; her father helped her a lot and they grew closer as a result. She absolutely loves her son and gets along well with Radea's children, especially Sophia due to their similar personalities. She has a delicate appearance but fortunately, she is not sickly like her mother; her hair is platinum blond and she has blue eyes. She decently strong wind magic.

Raymond "Ray" Bellerose - Radea’s nephew and current heir of Bellerose; the same age as Nicol, only a few months older. He seems to have a charming and polite personality, but is secretly jealous of Nicol because the latter has better looks, more popularity, higher grades/Student Council position, etc. Despite his dislike for Nicol, he gets along well with Sophia as they both share a love for reading. He even loves romance novels as well, but he keeps it a secret since he finds it embarrassing. He is engaged to Lady Phoebe Lambert and they get along well even if the marriage is for convenience. His mother named him after his father. Almost as tall as his grandfather; very handsome with long platinum blond hair tied up and blue eyes. He has strong wind magic, though Nicol is more powerful.

Baron Eugéne Faucher - the father of Dame Elizabeth ‘Elise’ Faucher. He is a clever and observant man who loves his children and wishes for them to be happy. He supports Elise's decision to become a knight even if he worries about her. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He has decently powerful earth magic.

Baroness Lisabelle Faucher - Elise’s mother and Eugéne’s wife. She is kind though a bit mischievous, and absolutely loved her family. She fully supports Elise in becoming a knight, confident in her talent and skill. She had light blond hair and green eyes. Like her daughter, she has wind magic.

Lord Elijah "Eli" Faucher - Elise’s older brother by two years and heir of the Faucher Barony. He is kind and has a fun loving side, but takes his responsibilities as future Baron seriously. Totally supportive of his little sister even if he worries about her. He has light brown hair and brown eyes. Like his father, he possess earth magic.

Emelie Faucher - Elise’s younger sister; she is the same age as Nicol Ascart. Energetic and a little mischievous but also friendly and kind. Totally idolizes her big sister. Loves to lord over her twin brother that she's older (by five minutes!). Dark brown hair and green eyes. She has earth magic like her father.

Emilio Faucher - Elise’s younger brother and Amelie’s twin; he is the same age as Nicol Ascart. Energetic and very mischievous but friendly and kind. Totally idolizes her big sister. Inseparable from his twin even if he's annoyed that she lords her status as older (by five minutes!) over him. Dark brown hair and green eyes. He has earth magic like his father.

Count Hiram Grant - the father of Edward Grant. He is a talented sword duelist, a bit arrogant but respects those that have talent and skill. An ally of Jacques Alarie but doesn't like him. Good friends with Baron Loid Vallier. Slender but strong body, perfect for swift sword fighting; dark hair and green eyes. He has strong water magic.

Baron Louis Vallier - the father of Richard Vallier and a very intelligent and clever man with an interested in entomology (the study of insects). An ally of Jacques Alarie but doesn't like him. Good friends with Count Hiram Grant. He is very tall and skinny, short, sandy blond hair and pale green eyes behind glasses. He has strong wind magic.

Sir Alawar Ackerman - the father of Sir Oliver Ackerman and a Knight Commander serving the Royal Family. He is a very serious man who usually doesn't tolerate nonsense from his subordinates but is very reasonable and cares about those under his command. A good friend of Sir Patrick Malone, Commander of the Claes Knight. He looks a lot like his son, Oliver, with the same dark hair and dark blue eyes. He is one of the best knights in the kingdom.

Bonnie Calico - she is the head chef of the Adeth Family. She is very friendly, kind and often motherly; has an adventurous, fierce side and does not hesitate to defend those precious to her. She used to be a pirate but retired from that life after the lost of her crew during a storm. She was saved by Duke Kai Adeth and swore fealty to him and his family. She used to be known as the Tiger of the Sea due to her fierceness in battle. She is very tall and muscular while still looking feminine; she has long red hair streaked with gray and heterochromia, one right eye green and left eye yellow. She has a pet green parrot named Pepper who can talk and seems smarter than the average bird.

Sir Armand Aragon - Commander of the Adeth Knights and Elias Aragon's younger brother. Like his brother, he is strict with his subordinates but knows when to be kind and cares a lot about those serving under him. He gets along well with his older brother and likes to tease him as all younger siblings do. He is considered the most skilled knight in the Adeth Duchy and an amazing sword fighting, the only one capable of matching his sword skills was the former Duke Kai Adeth. He is an old friend of Sir Patrick Malone and Sir Alawar Ackerman.

Grizzella Terni - eldest sister of Queen Giulia and Viscount Giovanni Terni. She is very vain and stuck-up, always looking down in those she deems inferior. She is jealous that her youngest sister became the Queen, feeling that the position should have been hers and developing an inferiority complex over it. She is married to a baron and had at least three children with him. Unlike her youngest siblings, she does not have magic. Looks very similar to Queen Giulia with blonde hair and blue-green eyes, but her face is meaner.

Captain’s Log

Stardate 20240403

Day 42

So, there’s been a new development.  Last night I was complaining to my wife about my lack of forward momentum on the business side.  She pointed out that I am recreating myself at 40.  How many people actually do that?  Most people settle for buying something expensive and keep doing doing whatever it was that made them miserable.  She pointed out that marketing, advertisement design, and professional photography, are all new fields for me.  I should be making a ton of mistakes.  

When I started teaching, I arrogantly assumed that I knew what I was doing until I met with gross public humiliation.  Once I hit that point, I was willing to listen and started growing.

Apparently, I haven’t changed much.  In entrepreneurship, it’s not my supervisor who tells me I’m doing something wrong—it’s the market.  I’m bringing a product to the table, but I’m unable to get a response.  People like it, but they won’t pay for it.  I’m doing something wrong.  Looks like I need to broaden my reading again.  

Today I started reading the 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing.  I’m powering through it.  Interesting perception shift.  Going to get back to it now.  

Oh, Simon and I had a tiff this morning, but he’s doing better now.  Not great, but better.  He seems to need to have a major argument about something insignificant to get out his angst.  I stick to my guns and insist on the principle (most of the time) and then he’s fine again.  It’s wearying, but I think he’s getting better.  It’s gone from daily, to two or three times a week.  Sometimes I wonder if it would kill him to just say, “Okay, Dad,” but I’ll take it one step at a time.

And they brought it to him. 21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land. 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake. OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY

I started sharing what you may call my ‘New Year resolutions’ yesterday and I will be discussing the second resolution on my list today. This year, I will open my mouth and tell God exactly how things are with me. I have discovered from experience that many people have become so good at pretending that all is well when all is not, even before God, the One who knows everything. In our Bible reading today, the men of Jericho revealed the true state of their city to Elisha and God used the prophet to put an end to the problem in their land. Come to think of it, however, Elijah, the spiritual father of Elisha, walked among the people of Jericho for years, but it was not recorded in the Bible that they informed him of the problems they were facing. They suffered for so long because of their silence! This year, I have decided that I am not going to suffer in silence. I am going to tell the Almighty God what my problems are; I am going to tell Him everything because I know that He will solve them all. I will not wait until I am about to lose things that are precious to me before I cry out like the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7 did. I visited one of my uncles many years ago and his wife served me pounded yam about the size of a baby’s fist. If I had intended to stay for one day, I would have kept my mouth shut, but I was going to stay for one week and pounded yam of that size will not satisfy me at all. I was very young, and I had a healthy appetite. So, I called the woman, “Excuse me ma’am, am I welcome here?” She said, “Yes, of course you are.” I said, “In that case, this pounded yam cannot satisfy me; please let me have some more.” She went into her bedroom, and I did not know what she told her husband, but I heard them laughing. I couldn’t have cared less; as long as she came back with more pounded yam, I was fine. This year, ensure that you do not pretend or form as the youths will say, before God. Tell Him exactly where the shoe hurts. Make up your mind like me to ask for His help more than ever before and He will surely answer you (Matthew 21:22). KEY POINT Stop suffering in silence, tell God all your needs this year. HYMN 8 – I Need Thee Every Hour 1 I need Thee every hour, Most gracious Lord; No tender voice like Thine Can peace afford. I AM REDEEMING YOUR MISTAKES

INVOCATION

Dear Jesus, may I be still and aware of Your healing power and forgiving love that are present with me in this Holy Now.

My child, everyone makes mistakes. If you have been feeling sorry for yourself today or spent time beating yourself up because you’ve messed up, I want to assure you nothing you can ever do will separate you from My love. In fact, all your faults and missteps put you in good company. If you don’t think so, let Me remind you about a few of My favorite people.

Abraham, who was called the father of nations, lied about his wife twice instead of trusting My Father. Moses, whom My Father used to deliver the Israelites from slavery, murdered an Egyptian, but he didn’t just stop there. He also ran away and begged God to find someone “more qualified” to speak with Pharaoh after being commanded to do the job. Jonah refused to deliver My Father’s message to a city because of his own selfishness, and he needed three nights inside a fish to be convinced otherwise. Elijah, the man who saw My Father bring fire down from the sky, actually hid in a cave when things were tough. And then there is Peter, one of My closest friends, who failed after boasting to everyone that he would never deny knowing Me.

Just read the list of people included in My own family tree, compiled by Matthew, and you will find liars, adulterers, murderers, and even a prostitute—people who made big mistakes at some point in their lives. So whenever you’re tempted to feel as if you are too broken or just too messed up to fit into My plans for you, open the pages of My Word, and really pay attention to the lives of the people who did the biggest miracles and accomplished incredible feats in My name.

Now, let’s focus on you and your mistakes today. Instead of repeating over and over what you did wrong, just turn it over to Me and forgive yourself. I have told you I am not interested in your past. I only want you to be ready to follow Me right now. To listen to My voice and accept My love. I have forgiven you, and I am restoring and renewing everything in creation—especially you. I only need your willingness to take My hand and move forward into a life of freedom.

If you will surrender your mistakes to Me, I will take and use them to make you better. Your failures will help Me build My Kingdom and redeem the world. Remember that Peter, My disciple who denied Me three times, was exactly who I chose to be the foundation on which I built My church. So don’t let your failures and slipups overwhelm you. Don’t let your mistakes define you and separate you from Me. I only want you to find your identity in Me, the One who loves you completely, mistakes and all.

REFLECTION

Everyone makes mistakes. The difference is that the people of God embrace forgiveness and move on from those mistakes. Consider how you have allowed your mistakes to define your life. Think about the fact that God says He doesn’t even remember your sins. What do you have in common with the Bible characters who messed up? Have you fallen down or missed the mark in an area of your life? Surrender your mistakes to God and forgive yourself. Then you can get back up and move forward, trusting Jesus to lead you.

DAILY PRAYER

Lord Jesus, take my sins, my mistakes, and my failures, and use them for Your purpose. I am grateful for Your forgiveness today. Please help me to respond to Your grace by getting up and moving forward, following Your calling and purpose for my life. Amen.

TODAY’S BLESSING

May you be emboldened by the truth that the heroes of the Bible were people who made huge mistakes. May you live your life today fully present in each moment, pursuing God’s calling for you, redeemed by the forgiveness and grace of the resurrected Jesus.

The angel of the Lord appeared to this woman and said to her, ‘You are barren and have had no child. But from now on take great care. Take no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean. For you will conceive and bear a son. No razor is to touch his head, for the boy shall be God’s nazirite from his mother’s womb. It is he who will begin to rescue Israel from the power of the Philistines.’ Then the woman went and told her husband, ‘A man of God has just come to me; his presence was like the presence of the angel of God, he was so majestic. I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not reveal his name to me. But he said to me, “You will conceive and bear a son. From now on, take no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean. 'Your wife Elizabeth will bear a son'.

In the days of King Herod of Judaea there lived a priest called Zechariah who belonged to the Abijah section of the priesthood, and he had a wife, Elizabeth by name, who was a descendant of Aaron. Both were worthy in the sight of God, and scrupulously observed all the commandments and observances of the Lord. But they were childless: Elizabeth was barren and they were both getting on in years.

   Now it was the turn of Zechariah’s section to serve, and he was exercising his priestly office before God when it fell to him by lot, as the ritual custom was, to enter the Lord’s sanctuary and burn incense there. And at the hour of incense the whole congregation was outside, praying.

   Then there appeared to him the angel of the Lord, standing on the right of the altar of incense. The sight disturbed Zechariah and he was overcome with fear. But the angel said to him, ‘Zechariah, do not be afraid, your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth is to bear you a son and you must name him John. He will be your joy and delight and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord; he must drink no wine, no strong drink. Even from his mother’s womb he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, and he will bring back many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. With the spirit and power of Elijah, he will go before him to turn the hearts of fathers towards their children and the disobedient back to the wisdom that the virtuous have, preparing for the Lord a people fit for him.’

   Zechariah said to the angel, ‘How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is getting on in years.’ The angel replied, ‘I am Gabriel who stand in God’s presence, and I have been sent to speak to you and bring you this good news. Listen! Since you have not believed my words, which will come true at their appointed time, you will be silenced and have no power of speech until this has happened.’ Meanwhile the people were waiting for Zechariah and were surprised that he stayed in the sanctuary so long. When he came out he could not speak to them, and they realised that he had received a vision in the sanctuary. But he could only make signs to them, and remained dumb.

The story of Nathan Packard

In Keith Brough and Frank Gardner's book, General Ward's Colonial Army, they write about a man named Nathan Packard, who they describe as a 1st Lieutenant and son of Zachariah Packard and Abigail Davenport. They further write that this individual was born in 1733 seemingly in Bridgewater, was a 1st lieutenant in Col John Bailey's Regiment in 1775, a captain in Colonel Edward Mitchell's Regiment, and holding similar positions until 1779 in varying companies (and regiments). They say he died in 1798 at age 65. But this snapshot is still not enough. Who was Nathan Packard and what was his story?

Note: This was originally posted on Mar. 30, 2018 on the main Packed with Packards WordPress blog (it can also be found on the Wayback Machine here). My research is still ongoing, so some conclusions in this piece may change in the future.

I wrote in my family history about some of those relating to Nathan Packard. I noted that

Nathaniel and Lydia would have two children before each of them died in the 18th century: Zachariah(1697-1771) and Mary (1695-1770). Mary would marry into the Leonard family. Nothing else is known about her. As for Zachariah, he would marry a woman named Abigail Davenport, and have four children: Elijah (b. 1725), Nathan (1733-1798) who was a captain in the Revolutionary War, Abigail and Nathaniel (d. 1721). When Zachariah died in 1771, he would have a will and inventory that were in keeping with the agricultural lifestyle of many of the Packards. Within his will, he would give his sons Nathan and Nathaniel a “servant” named Peter, his daughter Abigail a “servant boy” named America, and said that a “servant maid” named Ann would be given to his wife Abigail, only set free after her death...Hence, he [Zachariah] is clearly a slaveowner which was not explicitly stated in his will, except for calling the enslaved people listed above “servants” who are “worth” to him (as “quick stock”) a total of 69 pounds, 4 shillings, 9 pence. Using this measurement, it means that these people constitute almost 33% or one-third of his total property! Through his distribution of enslaved people to his sons Nathan and Nathaniel, daughter Abigail, and wife of the same name, it makes all of these individuals slaveowners as well.

Michael, on Find A Grave adds a further meaning of Zachariah's inventory:

By the way, I just started looking at your family history. The excerpt from Zachariah's will you quote on page 19 contains a word (Mistress) that you apparently couldn't interpret because of the cursive writing style of the time, which wrote lower-case "s" almost the way we would today write "f" except in the final position or after another "s." Hence "history" would look a bit like "hiftory" and "mistress" would look a bit like "miftrefs." Compare the German letter "ß" (Eszett), which is a ligature double "s." The line reads, "The Service of the Negro woman Ann during her Mistress [sic, should be Mistress's] Life."

But there is much more to the story. Moses Cary writes in A Genealogy of the Families who Have Settled in the North Parish of Bridgewater that Nathan Packard had seven songs, five daughters, marrying a woman with the last name of Jackson. Bradford Kingman adds in his "acclaimed" History of North Bridgewater about Nathan too. He writes that Nathan was a captain from North Bridgewater in 1778, a resident in Bridgewater's north parish in 1770, served in the British military in 1755, was a 1st lieutenant in 1775. [1] Nathan Packard is an established Patriot. He served as a captain while also noting he served as a 1st lieutenant and that he married a woman named Lydia Jackson (on October 10, 1758, with her named "Lidia" in the record). Later on, a woman named Mary Manley Packard would become a charter member of a DAR chapter "through the service of her great-grandfather, Capt. Nathan Packard, who was a illustrious patriot of the Revolution."

Nathan has a Find A Grave entry noting that he and Lydia moved to West Bridgewater (now called Brockton) to raise their family. The had 12 children in all! His gravestone is mostly unreadable except for his name and perhaps his year of death. The gravestone of his wife, Lydia, is much more readable. That is all I will note for now, but the story of the Packards continues onward.
