Ok so this is me sorta headcanoning, so take this with a grain of salt, but one of the reasons why the infantilization of Rogue always bothers me is because I always felt like her powers were a metaphor for disability/chronic illness and fandom police act already like disabled women aren't capable of being in their own villain romances, example being Entrapdak antis denying Entrapta her own agency in her romance with Hordak in the She-Ra reboot.

Oh! But you make a really good point! It’s one of those subtle perspectives that can be dangerous just because of how easy they are to integrate into someone's view of the world. I'm not as vocal online as I used to be. I feel like there are people out there far better equipped to talk about it than I, while I grow old and cranky. But, you brought up a really important aspect that kinda sent me into a 'hold my beer' moment so apologies for the long answer! To start with, I wouldn’t call this a headcanon, not at all, clearly not in the context of X-men, and Rogue in particular. It’s a very apt analogy. The reason why these characters become relevant to us is because we recognize something from our personal journey in them, and the comparison you made for Rogue is a very strong one. Her inability to touch can absolutely be read as a disability! In so many of her stories/arcs it is often portrayed as a struggle, as an obstacle to a ‘normal life’. Her difficulties with gaining control over her powers and dealing with other personalities that are trying to take over her mind can also be a strong metaphor for mental health struggles/disorders. Rogue is a fantastic hero in that regard and seeing her be her own person, learning how to work and be proud of what she can do, can feel like a personal victory for so many people. It’s why it’s important to see her happy, to see her winning her battles and use who she is and what she can do in a positive and impactful way. There are many reasons why fans end up taking away her agency or attributing her choices to a different (often male) character. And, to be fair, a couple of comic-book writers have done this exact thing to her, so I can see where this skewed perspective might be coming from. Within fandom this happens mostly because it serves to support their arguments for whatever thing they prefer or project onto the character. If they don’t like a certain narrative or can’t accept that it might’ve be written for someone else, they have this to fall back on and point to. Or, sadly, one of the simplest reasons for doing this is the age-old turning their ship preferences into ‘I’m right, you are wrong’ arguments. But these things can hide some internalized misconceptions. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the reboot of She-Ra (shame on me) so I don’t have the full picture for the take on Entrapta, but now I have one more reason to invest some time in it. In this situation with Rogue, I believe that what you mentioned applies very well. The argument that I’ve seen going around a lot is that Rogue was manipulated/swayed by being presented with the opportunity to ‘be normal’. Because she wanted to be able to touch and as a result she was taken advantage of because of her ‘disability’. Which is entirely false. In no version of the relationship between Rogue and Magneto in the comics, and not even in the reinvented take in the animation, has he ever abused that. Her attraction to him has always, always, come first, and the ability to touch, second. He was never the first one to act upon it. Even in the animation, every shot in the flashback was carefully considered to portray that - she is shown as the initiator every time (my favourite scene is when she’s trying her very best to pose in a suggestive way and he just paints her as he sees her, lively and sincere). But some fans don’t want to see that. They don’t want to acknowledge the authenticity of her decisions because it doesn’t serve the narrative they want of her/for her.

I read your message and it hit like a hammer how much deeper this problem can actually go, because it’s masked by those surface-level justifications. Removing agency and responsibility from someone just because they operate differently than one’s expectations is damaging in and of itself, and within a fandom it perpetuates an idea that can stifle people’s perspective and critical thinking. (This whole topic actually reminded me of Madison Tevlin's “Assume that I can” commercial. I think it's relevant to the conversation) Thanks a lot for sharing this!!! We need to talk more about these things and if I misspoke on something or missed something important would love to hear it. 💜

Had a sudden urge to draw the third page for that one entrapdak fam comic I did a while ago :))))

I know explaining your own art is cringe and pretentious but I want to scream about this page so bad so please don't mind my silly commentary ><

Forgot to add, but here Anillis also calls Hordak "Poppy!". The very first thing baby Prime did when he saw Hordak was to give him a name (or rather a nickname)

Сomparing Hordak's eyes with poppy flowers, Anillis literally shows acceptance and appreciation for his imperfections, the very "defect" his (Prime's) future self will despise so much

Literally everything about the song and it's lyrics makes me wanna go feral gpfohpfphp (but it's so hard to translate i hate it here might've missed translation error too :/)

Hordak looking so lost, and vulnerable and younger and so full of HOPE-

I'm still unsure whether or not everything holo-Anillis did and said was pre-recorded so this part is up to interpretation

Either way, it's still not Prime who talks to Hordak and gives him the flower and smiles at him with joy and excitement. Prime is dead

also NOT a fun fact: In spacebats' culture a term "Flower eyes" was sometimes used when reffering to someone who is dead (and the fact that Anillis is pointing at his eye aka at himself HELP)

As well as they symbolize remembrance and eternal sleep(death) poppy flowers are also associated with sleep in general. In that case, could this image of Anillis be a hint that neither Hordak nor Kadroh are fully "awake" yet and still need to open their eyes to some things about themselves, their past and their dead tyrant brother? I dunno c:

Kur twins' outfit desgins

Sooo I finally sat down and decided on final designs for Anillis (young Prime) and his brother Hec-Tor!

These are their regular day-to-day looks (how they'll appear in my Horde Prime's origin story, or Kur twins au, how I'm going to call it from now on)

An interesting Hordak/Entrapta parallel i can't stop thinking about

At a certain point in their lives both of them 1) were exiled and basically sent to die by someone who was important to them and whom they fully trusted (a friend/family/god) 2) got stuck in a strange place, isolated from the rest of the world/universe, all alone (lol speaking of trauma bonds...)

Two very similar and yet very different situations. And here’s the fun part: the main difference between Entrapta and Hordak’s stories is the opposite ways in which they react to their opposite circumstances, cope with and adapt to new changes

*Curiously skims the end of a long fanfic I’d actually stopped reading regularly a long time ago.* Okay, read the last two chapters, with a big gap from where I’d last let off as I lost track of the massive thing. The ending on the half-read fic kind of reminds me a bit of the ending / gist of a completely different fanfic I read all the way through, a different AU that I really liked a lot. It also reminds me of some oneshots I recall encountering having some of the same single trend among “modern” Entrapdak-fics - the trend being a hard look / harsh handling of Catra and going with non-Catradora and “Catra is alone” (with new, unnamed friends, perhaps, but no pairing and not ending with her being with the main cast). My own stories... it seems like Catra is just kind of... there? I have done a few short fics / oneshots with a focus on her, and it’s fun to try to get inside her head, but I don’t think I’ve incorporated her heavily into anything that was fairly long / multichaptered. Early on, I liked writing Entrapta-focused stuff, then got into Hordak-focused stuff, mostly non-romantic. I used to see a lot of stuff by others which had both Catradora and Entrapdak in them seamlessly, even if one pair was focused on more than the other. And...cute double-date comics and such. Earlier fandom, pre Season 5 and just post Season 5′s original airdates. It seems like more recently, in the last year or so, I run into more stories on the Entrapdak end of things that has Catradora breakup and “Catra is held accountable” vs. Hordak being reconciled. They’re never particularly vengeful, they aren’t written as hatefics or anything, there is always a vibe that Catra will go off and eventually heal - a sort of “Catra doesn’t get the girl, she gets therapy” thing to them. Or prison - with therapy - or just wanders off and is never seen again, as the case may be. Still pretty hard, though. I understand these stories as filling a need for authors and readers, those who think that some of Spop’s arcs were handled poorly at the end and maybe especially for people who feel like they’ve “had a Catra” in their lives (negative connotation). At the same time, I find some of this bent in fanfiction a little jarring? What I mean by this is... I honestly wonder how many Entrapdak-subfandom fans are also fans of Bojack Horseman because I get a lot of Bojack-vibes from some of the more serious-bent / darker than canon fanfiction of recent vintage. Particularly, it feels like, in some works, Adora essentially gives Catra the speech that Herb Kazazz gives Bojack regarding the nature of (un)forgiveness. It is not that it doesn’t have it’s place, but it feels a little weird sometimes when paired with something which has a canon of “The Power of Love Saves All.” I am by no means telling anyone how to write their fanfiction. Prime knows that I write the darkest, bloodiest, weirdest shit sometimes for bright and sparkly canons, She-Ra included and I do like to read a variety of fanfiction... I’m just noticing something I’ve seen a lot. Maybe I’m missing some of the lighthearted “double date” stuff.
