From a character perspective I can't fathom WHAT Rhysand's motivation/endgame was. Feyre was going to die. THE BABY WAS GOING TO DIE. Feyre's pregnancy was doomed from the begging because of the wings, and apsolutely nothing could be done. Rhysand himself was going to die. What reason did he have to hide it from his mate. To avoid making her sad? So having her bleed out confused is somehow better. He's immortal and has not had a wife or children for centuries despite being High Lord, surely he could wait a few more. The need for an heir was not urgent. Like what was the POINT does SJM not have an editor or anyone with reasonable thinking ability to advise her against this entire plot

URGENT! Stop KOSA!
Hey all, this is BáiYù and Sauce here with something that isn't necessarily SnaccPop related, but it's important nonetheless. For those of you who follow US politics, The Kids Online Safety Act passed the Senate yesterday and is moving forward.
This is bad news for everyone on the internet, even outside of the USA.
What is KOSA?
While it's officially known as "The Kids Online Safety Act," KOSA is an internet censorship masquerading as another "protect the children" bill, much in the same way SESTA/FOSTA claimed that it would stop illegal sex trafficking but instead hurt sex workers and their safety. KOSA was originally introduced by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass. and Bill Cassidy, R-La. as a way to update the 1998 Children’s Online Privacy Act, raising the age of consent for data collection to 16 among other things. You can read the original press release of KOSA here, while you can read the full updated text of the bill on the official USA Congress website.
You can read the following articles about KOSA here:
EFF: The Kids Online Safety Act is Still A Huge Danger to Our Rights Online
CyberScoop: Children’s online safety bills clear Senate hurdle despite strong civil liberties pushback
TeenVogue: The Kids Online Safety Act Would Harm LGBTQ+ Youth, Restrict Access to Information and Community
The quick TL;DR:
KOSA authorizes an individual state attorneys general to decide what might harm minors
Websites will likely preemptively remove and ban content to avoid upsetting state attorneys generals (this will likely be topics such as abortion, queerness, feminism, sexual content, and others)
In order for a platform to know which users are minors, they'll require a more invasive age and personal data verification method
Parents will be granted more surveillance tools to see what their children are doing on the web
KOSA is supported by Christofascists and those seeking to harm the LGBTQ+ community
If a website holding personally identifying information and government documents is hacked, that's a major cybersecurity breach waiting to happen
What Does This Mean?
You don't have to look far to see or hear about the violence being done to the neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, who are oftentimes one and the same. Social media sites censoring discussion of these topics would stand to do even further harm to folks who lack access to local resources to understand themselves and the hardships they face; in addition, the fact that websites would likely store personally identifying information and government documents means the death of any notion of privacy.
Sex workers and those living in certain countries already are at risk of losing their ways of life, living in a reality where their online activities are closely surveilled; if KOSA officially becomes law, this will become a reality for many more people and endanger those at the fringes of society even worse than it already is.
Why This Matters Outside of The USA
I previously mentioned SESTA/FOSTA, which passed and became US law in 2018. This bill enabled many of the anti-adult content attitudes that many popular websites are taking these days as well as the tightening of restrictions laid down by payment processors. Companies and sites hosted in the USA have to follow US laws even if they're accessible worldwide, meaning that folks overseas suffer as well.
What Can You Do?
If you're a US citizen, contact your Senators and tell them that you oppose KOSA. This can be as an email, letter, or phone call that you make to your state Senator.
For resources on how to do so, view the following links:
https://www.badinternetbills.com/#kosa
https://www.stopkosa.com/
https://linktr.ee/stopkosa
If you live outside of the US or cannot vote, the best thing you can do is sign the petition at the Stop KOSA website, alert your US friends about what's happening, and raise some noise.
Above all else, don’t panic. By staying informed by what’s going on, you can prepare for the legal battles ahead.

Melissa is Overdue
This was a little piece I thought up on a whim. A Pregnancy that went well overdue. Anyway this was pretty fun to work on.
Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~
Melissa was just an average woman living in a small town. One day in the fall, she discovered that she was pregnant. Melissa at first was rather reluctant to discover this, as she was now all alone. Of course, it would happen after her boyfriend left her with his blonde whore of a waitress from the local diner. She was heavily contemplating aborting the baby. But eventually changed her mind. The reason she never divulged to anyone.
Melissa was already a rather plump lady to begin with and as the pregnancy progressed she wasn’t exactly overjoyed about it. She was hoping for more of the easy-to-manage symptoms with her pregnancy, like tiredness, and some morning sickness.
What she learned is that it is more of a roulette wheel, and what she got was a sensitivity to smells, wild and erratic mood swings, and incredibly tender breasts. At least when she discovered she was having a baby boy. If she was going to have one at least she wanted it to be “easy” as she’d put it.
Weeks turned to months, and Melissa's baby grew bigger and bigger. Her plump tum rounded out into a fully-fledged baby bump by the time she reached six months. As her pregnancy developed into more of the later stages she talked with her doctor about her plan. “I want a water birth, I’ve already been in talks with a few different midwives,” she told her nurse
“I can see you’ve set your sights on it,” the nurse replied
“I have,” She told her doctor confidently
One thing that she absolutely did not want was to be cut open in any regard. She knew tearing might happen and resigned herself to that. But did not want to be cut open surgically if she didn’t need to. Something she voiced with extreme prejudice to her doctor, Gregory Lipshcitz, many times over several appointments.
“I just wanna make sure that you have a backup plan should something go wrong.”
“I know and nothing will go wrong, 'cause I already have it all planned out,” she told him
She was getting closer to her due date, July Second. Melissa was already a few weeks away. As she ran through everything she had planned out meticulously every detail from when she expected to start feeling her contractions to the hour she expected her baby to be born. She wanted everything to fall into place according to her own time and her convenience. But as July Second came and went, the baby didn’t so much as attempt to arrive.
“Sometimes babies come when they’re ready,” her closest friend told her
“Bullshit,” she replied “They can come when I’m ready for them”
A trip to her doctor would confirm this fact. However, he was out of town. And the stand-in, Doctor Edward Thompson, did not feel the same as she did. “You only missed it by a day and the little guy seems fine and healthy so, I don’t feel there is a need to induce your labor right now.”
‘I can think of several,” She pointed out to him, partially annoyed that her plans were ruined.
“Well we can agree to disagree,” Dr. Thompson told her, “I’m sure he’ll come out when you least expect it,” he told her wishing her well as she left the hospital
Melissa drove home with her bump nearly against the steering wheel. She started to look into ways to naturally induce her labor. She tried them all. She tried exercise, according to one study she saw a two-and-a-half-mile walk every day or a thirty-minute workout could help pop her. But nothing came of it except a daily fatigue halfway through the day. She ate a bowl of dates every day hearing that they could induce labor. Again there was nothing.
The last thing she tried was sex. With no real boyfriend to fuck her rather regularly she took to having one of her friends dick her down nice and hard. But that too didn’t induce labor, even after getting fucked several times a day all she got was more frustration from the fact that he was less than reciprocating to her own needs. It had now been two whole weeks and she hadn’t even felt so much as a contraction.
Now at her doctor at forty-two weeks, huge and overdue she wanted to know if she could be induced now. “Despite my stubborn boy, he does need to come out eventually”
Dr. Thompson of course said he would consult with her primary doctor on this matter. With the go-ahead, they were ready to begin. While a nurse was setting up the IV line Melissa was asked, “So you haven’t felt any labor pains? No Braxton hicks? Nothing?”
“I wish I did,” she said
Not that she had pitocin coursing through her system. They waited for the telltale sign that it was doing its job. They waited the allotted forty minutes, but Melissa didn’t feel a thing. Not so much as a single cramp. Her water didn’t even break. An hour passed, but still nothing. Ultrasounds confirmed the baby was alive and healthy. “I don’t understand it,” Dr. Thompson said aloud
Objecting to use it again. They started to wade in on the idea of their next course of action. Melissa stayed in the hospital that night as they kept a close eye on her. She ended up sleeping rather soundly that night. Only really woke up to pee cause her son was using her bladder like a pillow.
Several doctors were gathered around Thompson and Lipschitz. Looking at extra copies of the ultrasound other doctors weighed in on the matter. They noted that the baby hasn’t dropped into position yet which could be the root cause. One suggests that there may be a different method of induction. All of them still neglect the fact that Melissa was over forty-two weeks pregnant, and her water didn’t break even after having pitocin in her system. Hours passed, and before she knew it another day had passed.
Melissa finally buckled and relented to her earlier point. “Fine, just give me a C-section! Let’s get this over with,” she told them.
The doctors didn’t waste any time. However, it didn’t exactly go according to plan. Bizarre and unforeseen circumstances caused a pause or a hindrance every time she was going to be wheeled in for a cesarean. An electrical fire erupted as they prepared the room for Melissa. Another surgical room had the ceiling collapse in on it. The nurses talked amongst each other about how it felt like this was an eerie coincidence.
Melissa was starting to feel it too. “Am I just gonna be cursed to be pregnant forever?”
“No,” One nurse tried to console her.
“Then why haven’t I felt anything, any sign that this kid is gonna be coming out of me.”
Unsure how to respond. The nurse simply replied, “I’m sure that your son will be coming out any day now,”
Another week passed and she was now three weeks overdue. Walking felt rather cumbersome, and her waddle stride didn’t feel like it covered enough ground. She complained about how her son was just getting heavier and heavier.
The doctors still didn’t have an answer. The hospital was rather cautious about attempting to induce her again. The two surgical rooms they had lost were still in the clean-up phases. They absolutely did not want to risk a freak accident happening again and taking out another room.
Despite the hospital administration's growing concerns, Melissa remained determined to go for another. A different hospital. A different part of town. Only to be met with the same thing. A freak accident, this one a chemical explosion, the cause of which was still being determined.
“Oh god,” Melissa uttered upon hearing the news that her procedure was being moved to another date. “I’m gonna be fucking pregnant forever aren’t I?” she asked with a melancholy head hunched down over her massive baby belly.
Melissa felt her son moving, a little food pressing against the skin. She closed her eyes and tried to hold back her tears. Was this supposed to be a sign? Was this her baby's way of telling her that he was never going to leave her?
Several more weeks had passed and she was now sitting at a staggering fifty-two weeks. Her stubborn boy refused to budge. Not so much as a sign that the baby was coming out. He rested nice and high, not even descending. It was getting harder for Melissa to walk around and carry the weight of this pregnancy.
Sitting down for too long made her legs go numb. And lying down she found it was getting harder to stand back up. The way she waddled she was bound to knock things down more and more making trips to the store all the more challenging. She was getting embarrassed by her size. She was beginning to feel like she was under some kind of curse, a curse to carry her son in her womb forever.
One night before bed. As she lay there overburdened Resting as comfortably as she could, she started to question her baby, “Why haven’t you come out? What did I do to you? I carried you, I fed you so you’d grow, I did everything to make sure you grew healthy.” She was starting to tear up, “So why… So why won’t you come out?”
She waited. Nothing. She felt him lay there against where her hand was but not so much as an arm moved.
“What did I do wrong?” she asked
That night in her dream, she was standing there massively overdue. In her dream, she knew she had been pregnant for years. Her son just got bigger and bigger, never leaving the confines of her womb. She strained her back to keep her massively distending pregnant belly from scraping against the floor. The floor was a pedestal of stained glass heavily embroidered with imagery of broken hearts. She could hear every plan she ever made, every little detail she had ever planned out. A single question from one person she had overlooked. An interaction that seemed rather unimportant at the time.
“It doesn't sound like you love them,” a woman commented she too was expecting a baby herself
It was when Melissa was in the store buying some maternity clothes. “That doesn’t matter, Until they’re here it's all about me,” she said arrogantly
“That’s so sad,” she commented back. “How could you not love them before they’re born?”
Something Melissa never answered then. She woke up to see her huge belly, her hand still resting on it gently. With a soft voice and a gentle caress, she muttered the words to her sleeping baby boy, “I love you, Joshua. I love you,”
She felt him move that fluttering feeling; like back in the earliest stages of her pregnancy. Melissa closed her eyes and said it again. Faintly she started to feel the weight shifting. And the sensation around her uterus. A tingle at first that got stronger. She was fifty-two weeks pregnant, and with three simple words, she started to feel the early signs of labor. Melissa hoped he’d be coming out soon, happy and healthy, she didn’t care what happened to her now. But it wasn’t to be, she carried for another forty-eight days with no sign of ending in sight. As week sixty approached its end, her waiting son chose then to begin his birthing.
How would breaking dawn have differed if Bella had been dead set on having an abortion? Like yep, no thanks, do what you gotta do Carlisle, no inhuman children here. If Carlisle had then been successful, would it just be like this weird thing the family never talked about? And would Edward continue to do everything under the sun apart from turning Bella?
Well, this would be very awkward, because given the weirdness Bella's body's going through and that her uterus cannot be cut open by human instruments I imagine Carlisle has to do the C-section abortion anyway and that he has to turn her in the process or she will very much die.
(Remaining human, despite Edward's insistence, really wasn't an option the moment Bella became pregnant. Her body turned against her, her digestive system completely warped, her uterus turned to stone--she wasn't going back even if she didn't have to be cut open with vampire teeth.)
And depending how far the fetus is along/how twilight hybridization works, it very much might survive the premature c-section.
So, in the world where the fetus does not survive, it haunts the family tremendously as Rosalie takes this very personally (even when she shouldn't), Edward sees it as all his fault and having destroyed Bella's life and turned her into a vampire in a circumstance he did not want/was trying to avoid, and Bella both has to deal with Rosalie and Edward's fallout as well as the fact that this was her one shot if she ever had wanted children and the emotional baggage that comes with that (yes, Bella was dead certain before and nothing wrong with that, kudos to her, but this is a hard thing for anyone to face and one of those things that brings existential doubt).
I imagine the Cullens would start to fracture after this.
If baby survives doubly so as there's this haunting truth of "the abortion didn't take", you have Bella trying and failing to be a mother even more than before because she didn't actually want this baby at all but now it's here and "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck", you have Rosalie still being doubly weird because even though there's now a baby, Bella did try to abort, and now Bella's pretending she wanted it the whole time when Rosalie would gladly adopt in a heartbeat. And of course Edward.
Multitasking {Dad!Edward Nashton x Mom!Reader}
Tumblr media
Author’s note!: Hii!! Thank you for the ones who voted yes! You were the ones who inspired and helped me! If you liked my writing, don’t be scared to request or check my writing out on wattpad! Will be working on links about that!
TW: Mentions of abortion, swearing.
“It’s a boy!” The nurse said with excitement in her voice, examining the freshly newborn.
You and Edward’s eyes widened a bit, a boy?
At the same time, you both turn their heads to face each other.
You, covered sweat and tears all over your face while panting, smiled tiredly at him.
Edward, covered in salty tears from seeing you in pain, is still surprised.
His opened mouth softly turns into a smile, before resting his forehead against yours.
“A boy..” You pant, “We have a baby boy!” you cry out.
He nods eagerly, putting his hands up to cup your face.
That was a year and a month ago.
The pregnancy was a total surprise.
It wasn’t a hookup though, you guys were dating for a whole year, and you forgot to refill your birth control one weekend.
When you realized you were pregnant by a test you did, you told Edward right away after he came back from work.
Both of you are bad at choosing things, sometimes even simple things.
By a game of stupid rock, paper, and scissors, they would have to choose the answer for this.
If Eddie won, you would have to keep the baby.
If you won, you would have to abort the baby.
By winning three rounds out of five, Eddie won.
And now, that baby boy, is a year old.
His name, Eli. His full name, Eli Christopher Nashton, was a year old.
He’s a straight copy of Eddie, which creeps you out sometimes when they sit next to each other.
His eyes, to his cheeky smile, your heart couldn’t help, but melt.
Eli is laying down with you on the bed, back at Eddie and you’s shared apartment.
You traced his face lightly as he’s on his second bottle, trying to rest him for his first nap today.
His father is in the other room, laughing maniacally as he live streams to his five hundred followers.
Rightfully so, it’s Eddie’s fault for deciding to live stream on this time.
He knew it was during his son’s nap hours, but his five hundred followers of strangers and incels was begging of him to lifestream right now.
After a final gulp, you take the half finished bottle away from Eli to set on the nightstand. It doesn’t seem like he’s going to fall asleep soon.
You sigh, still tracing his features. “I love your daddy, but..” You trail off, “He can be a pain in the butt sometimes!”
Eli giggled, making you grin down at him.
You both basically hear Eddie from his office, manically laughing or loud papers scatterings.
Hardly, Eddie sometimes took care of Eli when you wanted a nap. But never actually took care.
He doesn’t know how to make milk for the baby, he only gets water.
He can’t feed the baby, the baby food give him the ick.
Bonus point: He only plays with the baby with his action figures, including the small guns that can kill his baby.
All of a sudden, you smile as you get an idea.
You put your hands under Eli’s arms before lifting him up and putting him on the side of your body.
Getting up from the bed, you grab the sunglasses, and the big silent headphones you got for Eli.
Eli always interrupted Eddie while he streams, so you ordered big headphones and sunglasses.
At least, it’s protecting his privacy?
Walking in his office, your boyfriend covers his computer and mutes his mic. “..Yes, baby?” He whispers.
“Your turn!” You smile, you set Eli on his lap before putting his sunglasses and headphones on.
Eddie starts to whine quickly, “But, baby! This livestream is important!” he argues.
“You wanted more viewers..Right? Eli can pull way more in.” You point out, before walking out of his office.
He sighs, clenching his jaw. “She’ll get it. She’ll get it soon tonight.” He thought, before unmuting his mic and moving his hand away from the camera.
“Okay we’re back! And I have a special guest with me!” He sets Eli on his knee, playfully bouncing him as he giggles.
The chat quickly blows up of the sight.
“Is that your child?”
“BROOOO come on! He’ll ruin your livestream!”
“dilf”
His face behind the mask quickly turns into disgust.
The chat are judging his son, hell even calling the son a mistake.
His eyes quickly move away from the chat, before continuing to talk.
He sighs, “Anyways! The system is basically a fucking joke as I was saying. If you ever say the truth to the mayor of this shit of a city, he’ll thrown you in Arkham!”
Eli starts to blabber as Eddie talks, which he nods. “That’s what I’m saying! He would electric shock you too before throwing you back into the streets!”
The stream continues as Eli babbles and Eddie immediately agreeing with him.
Of course you’re watching them while peeking in, having a plate with chicken nuggets on your hand, ready for your baby.
Maybe..This was a great idea.
For some time now I've harbored the suspicion that Ao3 and fandom in general is pretty anti-abortion. Not in a conscious, malicious way - hell no. I think it is an unconscious thing, something that sneaks into a lot of fiction in a way that isn't actively harmful, but has an accumulative effect.
And i get it.
Fanfic and fandom are escapism. They are there to present happy stories and happy endings, big What-ifs and endless coffee-shop AUs. It is easy to imagine these worlds as perfect enough that no one needs to have an abortion because only people who want children only ever get pregnant.
And on an individual level that is absolutely fine. Nobody has to deal with topics that make them personally uncomfortable, or deal with delicate discussions such as this in their free time entertainment. It's just...
A world without abortion isn't a happy one for everyone. Partially because it is a human right that is being threatened all over the world by conservative governments who want to take away the bodily autonomy to have one. And since such is the state of the world, there should be a room in fiction to explore the implications of this. The horror of some government having this kind of control over your body, but also the fantasy of a support system that is there for you should the need for an abortion arise.
Why am I typing all this? Because I just got a lot of hate on one of my fics dealing with abortion. And I think it is a symptom of a larger problem.
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot of an anon Ao3 comment saying: "Why do you worthless,brainless feminists try to tarnish this perfect stor y with your feminist baby murder propoganda? Why do you try to project your brainwashed,indoctrinated whore behaviour on characters as great as Edward and Winry? An abortion is NOT your decision. It is NOT your body and no amount of feminist screaming will change that. It is the fathers child too and your opinion is irrelevant. Abortion is murder, that's a fact. And no, I'm not religious. This entire story and your propoganda is utter TRASH. Rejected."]
Tumblr media
[ID: another screenshot, also from anon: "NOT her body,NOT her choice. Different human being altogether. Keep wishing. Men will fully stop this practice of infanticide." Posted: 2023-06-18 05:09:47 UTC]
Tumblr media
[ID: a third anon message that reads: Anonymous responded: "NOT her body,NOT her choice. That's a different, innocent human being altogether. And Ed is a strong,free man with a working brain. He's not your idea of "supportive husband" (aka spineless beta) who will support infanticide. This is not Edward and mlst definitely not Winry. She knows the value of life and exactly how hollow abortion arguments are. It is NOT a womans choice ever. NOBODY gets to decide to murder an innocent baby." Posted: 2023-06-18 05:08:24 UTC]
The fact that you should never send someone these kind of messages non-withstanding, this showcases a lack of respect and understanding that is simply baffling. There is so much hate in these comments. So much ire at women and people capable of having children in these words... it's frightening.
And I don't want to lock these stories behind moderated comments and limited access, because let me tell you something... these stories are for the people who need them most, the people who need positive and loving stories about making a hard choice and sticking with it. And often these people will only tell me about their own journey, their own struggle while on Anon themselves. And looking at the kind of response I've garnered... for a good reason.
Because it still isn't safe to openly talk about abortion.
Apparently not even on a website like ao3, which is generally assumed to be pretty liberal considering the general nature of online fandom.
Abortion is still seen as a taboo topic - in fiction and in real life. And this fear of openly discussing abortion makes people who visibly do vulnerable for attack. Be it authors like me who want to explore the bodily autonomy inherit in a fight for abortion, or the women and people who've had an abortion and are still frightened to talk about it.
If writing fiction dealing with abortion has taught me anything--- it's that people need and WANT these stories. Because no one else is writing them, but I really think some of us should.
The perfect world in which no one needs an abortion is useless, if people in the real world get hate mail for contemplating having one.
The next time your character has an unwanted pregnancy or is already surrounded by six kids or is very focused on wanting success and a career... think about why abortion isn't an option in your story.
Is it because it wouldn't make sense in your perfect fantasy? Is it because actually wanting kids is very inherent to this character? Or is it because deep down some part of you still thinks that having an abortion is some sort of sin?
It's no moral judgement I am making here - but you can only deal with an unconscious bias by examining it.
Looking back on Twilight criticism is so funny because mainstream crit (that I saw anyway) was all focused on "Ew girls like it" when literally the ENTIRE BOOK NEEDS CRITICISM IT STARTS WITH A CREEPY DUDE WATCHING A GIRL WHILE SHE SLEEPS AND WHEN SOMEONE ASKS "How much racism will Smeyer add?" SHE ANSWERED "Yes."
Exactlyyy. White ppl will like hide behind any type of marginalization they face (like misogyny, homophobia, etc) when they wanna dodge either being accused of racism, or things they like that are racist & being critisizes for that racism, even when said marginalization has nothing to do with it.
Twilight itself is an extremely misogynistic book, where it places White women as the ultimate standard of femininity, particular thin rich White women who are stay at home moms, home makers, etc, and places all other women as not as good or "pure" as them. Bella at 17 literally looks after her dad and cooks and cleans for him. Leah is demonized as a Native woman for literally no reason & gets used as a punching bag throughout the film & books. Abortion is seen as "murder", even when the fetus is slowly killing the mother & clawing its way out of her. There's more obvi but those are just a few examples.
But even if you ignore the racism or misogyny (which you shouldn't) it also romantisizes abuse, what with Edward fitting ALL "signs that your partner is abusive" ticks.
If you ignore the romantisization of abuse, it's also classist: the Cullens are upheld as this angelic set if vampires who are literally billionaires, and could go any fucking place in the world, but they decide to go to the one place they agreed not to go near (due to a treaty with the Quileute Forks) & where they were literally already colonizers who disrupted & harmed the Native population & where they're a threat to the Quileute & they go there for no reason. Edward replaces Bella's old car that her dad & Jacob had fixed up for her (which she had already stated to adore, one reason being that she has an interest in old things) with a sports car, purely to one up Jacob. They all drive various sports cars & Alice routinely wears & throws out clothes. They're held up to this romantisized standard against Bella & the Quileute tribe's middle to lower class status, & this is meant to be another point of why Edward is supposedly better than Jacob (because he is rich).
If you ignore the classism, racism, & misogyny then there's also the weird Mormon ideology literally baked into the entire series, & it can be considered essentially Mormon propaganda. The Native characters are demonized, obviously (considering Mormons literally think Native people are evil). None of the vampires have tattoos but all the werewolves do, & according to the lore, any and all tattoos get removed after becoming a vampire (which is what Mormons believe happens to tattoos in their afterlife). In the books, any poc who become vampires become pale regardless of their skin color in life, & again, this is what Mormons believe happens to poc who become Mormons & enter the afterlife. The whole "no sex before marriage" thing & the abortion thing. Bella & a lot of the other non-demonized female characters dress pretty conservatively, & Edward finds a full length skirt sexy & "indecent". The (white) vampires are repeatedly compared to "angels" & called beautiful & perfect. Other non Christian, non-Mormon religions (& the people that belong to/practice them) in the series are routinely demonized & mocked. Vampirism, but namely for the White characters, is literally an allegory for White Mormons in heaven.
If you ignore all the above and a bunch of other bigoted & weird shit in the series that I haven't yet mentioned, then it's genuinely just very dumb & badly written with stupid logic. Bella thinks it's weird how the Cullens all have really old names when HER name is literally "Isabella Swan". The Cullens literally hate the Quileute & "werewolves" for no fucking reason since they literally trespassed on Quileute land as colonizers in the 1800s, & it's already been established that the shapeshifters aren't even actually real werewolves in the lore so therefore they have no inherent quarrel with them based on the vampire vs werewolves thing, so they just hate them for no reason. The vampires keep going to high school & learning the same shit over and over again when they could be going to COLLEGE or idk doing something productive. Jasper apparently has to teach the Natives how to fight so obviously Smeyer has never seen a rez fight. Jasper is considered a "newborn" even though he was literally turned in the 1860s. Bella gave her kid the dumbest name ever. Ppl have been memeing & making fun of this series since it came out, & I feel like it's hypocritical for twilight fans to both say "ppl only hated it because girls liked it but its actually really good!" While also saying they find it hilarious even the actors made fun of it & hated making it because of its many faults (like so you agree? People made fun of it even back then?) And while also saying they "enjoy it critically" meaning. They admit there's something wrong with it, but still get mad when ppl critisize it.
This is unrelated to anything, but my favorite thing about Carlisle is that whatever Edward tells Bella/the reader about him is wrong in every way. Like, Edward thinks he’s damned so the implication is that Carlisle, a former priest, thinks the same and encourages Edward to believe that, but this is disputed in New Moon. In Breaking Dawn, Edward is convinced that Carlisle would forcibly abort Bella’s baby if it weren’t for Rosalie, but Carlisle confirms he would never do such a thing to Jacob.
Even when Edward shares details of their backstories, he just glosses over crucial information pertaining to Carlisle and it is so funny. Edward mentions Carlisle spent a few decades with the Volturi and this is treated like it’s nothing. Edward completely cuts Elizabeth out of the story, making it seem like Carlisle chose him because he thought he was special, and we only learn about Elizabeth from Carlisle himself. Granted, this could be because SMeyer didn’t come up with that until New Moon, but it does make me reevaluate Edward’s testimony on… anything. I know human memories are blurry to vampires, but they’re not erased like Alice’s were because she was subjected to brain injury inducing electroshock therapy. So it feels like Edward’s exclusion of Elizabeth was deliberate. Lastly, Edward’s disdain for human-blood-drinking vampires and his assumption that his family has equal disregard for them is especially ironic when all of those human-blood-drinking vampires who come to the Cullens’ aid in Breaking Dawn are Carlisle’s besties.
It makes me question Edward’s thoughts on everything, and I feel like the fandom takes a lot of what he says as absolute truth (such as Rosalie being meant for him or Rosalie wanting Bella to die so she could raise the baby) because he’s a mind reader, but his perception and misunderstanding of Carlisle, his beloved father and oldest companion, throws that out the window.
Oh yes, this! I used to say "Edward is not a good storyteller" because he leaves out crucial details all the time. And whether that's a conscious choice on his part to leave things out or he's Just a Teenager who makes himself the focus of everything, I don't know. (Or, as you suggest, that SM didn't flesh out the stories until later so Edward was giving accurate information in the moment but the stories changed).
The other two examples are Esme and Rosalie's backstories, too. With Esme, he makes it sound like, again, Carlisle just found this random dying person and chose to save her; he completely leaves out they had met before. And with Rosalie he makes it sound like the only reason Carlisle 'saved' her was so Edward could have a girlfriend. But when you hear the story from Rosalie's POV it's not like that, and ROSALIE of all people would not be trying to paint Carlisle in a more positive light, so I trust her more. Rosalie talks about hearing him say how terrible what happened to her was, how he couldn't just leave her, what a waste of a young life, etc and that she was free to go off on her own if that's what she wanted. Absolutely nothing about matchmaking or suggesting they get together. Even the guide says it was in 'the back of his mind' and while "omg this poor girl, I can't leave her here, and hey maybe she and Edward will hit it off if she decides to stay with us" isn't super great, it's not nearly so creepy as "here Edward, I found a wife for you" as Edward sort of implies.
And I do often see fandom/fanfic taking Edward's word for it; Carlisle gets a lot of flack for 'changing Rosalie for Edward' and being willing to abort Bella's pregnancy against her will, but when those incidents are seen from the POV's of other characters, Edward's understanding of those moments is called into question.
figure it out
the one where you tell the boy you’ve been hooking up with that you’re pregnant.
warnings: angst, fluff, cursing, allusions to smut, mentions of abortion, pregnancy
it was just like a movie.
you were crying quietly on the floor of your dorm, holding the little plastic pregnancy test in your shaky hands. there was no denying the bold “pregnant +” that was staring back at you, your mind in a million places as your stomach twisted and flipped.
you had only known edward since september, only four months. he had started out as a tutor for you— well, the intent had started out as him tutoring you, but your “study sessions” had often turned into other things. he was cute, light brown hair, soft and round face, clear-framed glasses in front of his green doe eyes, and a voice that stuttered but was soft and sweet. he was also incredibly intelligent, which is why you had sought his help in the first place.
you had told edward that you weren’t looking for a real relationship — this was just casual. it might’ve broken the poor boy’s heart to hear you say that, because he was genuinely so sweet, but he had agreed because truth be told, he would do anything just to be around you.
and now, karma due to your actions, you were pregnant with the baby who could only be eddie’s. you couldn’t remember a time when you weren’t careful no matter how hard you racked your brain. were you drunk? did the protection break? had he forgotten to put it on?
“shit, shit, shit,” you cursed shakily, a fresh front of tears sliding down your pink cheeks. you were a broke college kid knocked up with a baby from a guy you weren’t even dating. there was no good solution to the problem; abortions cost money, supporting a baby cost a lot more money for longer, and the thing you nor eddie had was money.
you hadn’t talked to eddie in a week, the pregnancy symptoms had been setting in and as soon as your brain connected the dots you gave the poor boy the cold shoulder. you felt slightly guilty, it’s not like edward had any other friends. when he nervously smiled at you in the hallway of your dorm you’d keep your eyes forward as if he wasn’t there. when he asked if you wanted to meet up you’d curtly tell him you had other things going on and walk away. now, you were faced with the task of telling him the situation. maybe he’d stop talking to you, just remove himself from the situation. maybe he’d help you scrape up enough money to get an abortion and then you two could part ways. no matter what, there seemed zero possible way you were keeping this nashton baby.
after fifteen minutes of crying it out, you had picked yourself up, your arms wrapped around yourself in your sweatshirt, and made your way slowly out your dorm to eddie’s, pregnancy test in your pocket. your face was pink and you sniffled as you pulled your hood up, shuffling down the empty hallway, fragments of leftover christmas decorations still littered the floors.
you realized you weren’t quite sure what you were going to say to him until you made it to his door. everything still felt like a fever dream, like it wasn’t real. how were you supposed to complete a comprehensive sentence, anyway? you accepted that trying to formulate a coherent thought was not going to work anyway, and you knocked on his door before you could let your brain overthink it.
edward opened the metal door quickly, in a millisecond his face going from a relieved smile to a frightened frown as he looked at your state standing right in front of him.
“h-hey,” he started carefully. he said your name gently and you felt more salty tears brim your eyelids. “what’s wrong?”
“can i come in?” you whispered brokenly. eddie nodded quickly and gestured for you to come inside, you stalking in and hoisting yourself up onto his bed. edward quickly shut the door before scrambling up next to you, unsure of what to do. it was obvious he wanted to hug you, hold your hand, something, but considering that you hadn’t spoken to him in a week, he didn’t want to cross any lines.
you sat with him on his bed, him silent and looking at you with concern as you sniffled and stared at your lap. you swallowed the lump in your throat and looked up at him, tired and numb from crying.
“i need to tell you something,” you started weakly. edward’s eyes were locked with yours and he gently nodded his head.
“okay, what is it?” he asked, trying to hold back any anxieties he felt.
it wasn’t going to get any easier to say it.
“eddie i’m pregnant,” you breathed shakily. all the color drained from edward’s face and his mouth parted. you felt like crying again, afraid of the unknown, afraid of what he was going to say. you exhaled and pulled the pregnancy test out and handed it to edward, his eyes growing wider than you thought was possible as he examined it. your stomach started twisting again, the silence so incredibly loud.
“i-i’m—“ edward tried to stutter out. you shook your head.
“i don’t know how it happened, i ran everything over in my head and i still can’t find an answer,” you answered for him. he ran a hand through his hair before he looked back up at you, his heart surely beating a thousand beats per second. “i’m sorry, eddie, i don’t know what else—“
“why are you apologizing?” he interrupted quietly. “i should be the one apologizing, i’m the one who got you pregnant.”
his humbled attitude had you broken in seconds. you started crying again and moved yourself to embrace him, him quickly wrapping his arms around you too. you started sobbing full force once again and edward stroked your hair, shakily exhaling as you nuzzled against him.
“wh-what are we gonna do?” you sobbed. edward hushed you gently and swallowed, trying to think of a somewhat calming answer for a moment.
“w-well… i’ll get another job, we’ll see if we can find an apartment right outside campus,” he replied slowly. it took you a moment to process what he was saying before you blinked and sniffled, looking up at him.
“what do you mean?” you croaked. eddie paused and took in a breath as he looked down at you like you were his entire world, confused by why you were questioning him. then you swore you felt his heart skip a beat.
“well, i mean, unless you want an abortion, of course… which i’ll also help pay for…” he muttered, melancholy lacing his tone. you were stunned; he wanted to keep this baby.
“you wanna keep it?”
“you don’t?”
the silence was so loud again as you stared at each other. you hadn’t entirely made that decision, truth be told, you had been so caught up in the oh shit moment that the future hadn’t entirely marinated in your head.
edward took a breath and licked his lips nervously. “i-it’s up to you, of course,” he added. the idea that from the second you told him you were pregnant that he assumed the two of you were keeping it made your heart soar in a way, just as the sad disappointment in his voice when you had mentioned other options caused a pang in your heartstrings. you of course would never shame a person for having an abortion; it’s each individual’s right to choose. however, in the few short minutes that you had been in edward’s arms and exchanging small sentences, the idea of having an abortion of your own wasn’t appealing.
you took a deep breath.
“we’re not even dating,” you whispered. edward bit his lip.
“i know,” he replied with that same melancholy tone that made it obvious to you that he wanted more.
“i can’t make you do this if you don’t want to,” you said. edward shook his head and hesitantly took your hands in his.
“i want to if you want to,” he replied earnestly. “i told you, i’ll get another job, save up… we’ve got nine months to figure this out.” his tone was sweet and genuine. you swore there was a glimmer of excitement and love in those green eyes of his, this lovesick boy willing to follow your every move and command.
“and over the summer? when you go back home?” you asked. edward smiled sadly.
“‘home’ isn’t really a place for me; i’ll follow you wherever, or we can’t look into an apartment together. we can sort that out later.”
edward was calm and reassuring. the way he looked at you held you in a trance and soothed your nerves, though your stomach was still knotted and your eyes were dry from crying. was all this still real?
cribs, baby blankets, baby bottles, diapers, and pacifiers danced through your head as edward swallowed, anxiously awaiting your final verdict.
“are you sure?” you questioned again. eddie scoffed and shook his head.
“it’s your call, i’m here to support you with whatever you pick,” he reminded you. you took a deep breath and nodded.
“okay,” you whispered. it was official, no matter what the future was going to bring, you had nine months to wrap your head around this baby. it was scary; nine months was both so long yet so short and you had so much to figure out as a freshman in college, just starting your second semester. but when eddie couldn’t help but smile at you and kiss your forehead, something told you it was all going to be okay. he pulled you onto him as he laid back onto his bed and you snuggled against him as he pressed kisses to your hair and whispered reassuring things to you.
teen pregnancy may have won the battle, but you were going to win the war.
I love that post that's going around that's pointing out the inconsistencies in the writing of Rosalie's character, and I like how it inspires us to explore more of the dissonance in her behavior. Naturally, this all leads back to the context of who wrote her. I've said this before in a past, long buried post that I can't find in my search, but I'll repeat it because it at least influences why Rosalie was written to be a fierce protector of Bella's choice to have Nessie (as long as it went with her agenda, of course). Conservative women, who are overwhelmingly pro-life and pro-birth-regardless-of-circumstance, actually propogandize their anti-abortion agenda by framing themselves as the defenders of women who want to have children (and the unborn ofc) against the liberal pro-choice crazed feminists who supposedly want to force these aspiring mothers to undergo abortions and destroy the Godly nuclear family. To people not raised in a conservative environment, I'm aware this must sound nuts, but it is the way these people think. Notice how they themselves flip the labels on their head, so that they seem to embody the right of choice (revealing that they think it is the duty but also the desire of all women to want to be moms) even when they are in fact taking away any choice in choosing to terminate a pregnancy.
*Naturally, when I go to try to look that post up, I can't find it, so if anyone sees it again, feel free to send it over and I'll add a hyperlink.*
The post mentioned also talks about more aspects of her character than just what happened in Breaking Dawn - I cherry picked a specific detail above - but I really do like how it reveals Stephenie's own bias and warring purposes for her characters. Rosalie is meant to be the Mean Girl Bombshell Blonde type, so naturally she has to chafe with Bella and be against her life choices (but also be jealous of her) which manifests as Rosalie wanting Bella to stay human and acting cold to her most of the time. Rosalie is also being punished (twilight saga expert panlight has discussed many a time how SMeyer unconsciously punishes the characters who stand in the way of Edward and Bella's happily ever after within the narrative), so she can't have what all women SHOULD want in the eyes of women like Stephenie - children. A traditional, nuclear family. When Bella gets pregnant, Rosalie's emphasis on choice becomes her redemption - sure her motives are selfish - because now she's on the same side as what Bella desires, so she's going to get what she wants, which is a child in her life. Renesmee.
Rosalie is well known for preaching about the importance of choice, but that doesn't mean that she supports whatever others - in this case, Bella - decide. Rose defending Bella's decision in keeping the fetus and protecting her from a forced abortion (there's so much to be talked about with Bella's whole "I don't want just any baby, I want this baby" thought process but that's for another day), while also pushing Bella to stay human ("You have a choice. I didn't. None of us did. But you're choosing wrong.") showcases this.
That post was right, all in all. There is a LOT of cognitive dissonance with regards to the way Rose is written on Stephenie's side of things. People and their personal ideals don't always align with the behavior that they exhibit, but Rose is a character written by a not-all-that-self-aware author. Rosalie wasn't meant to be that complex of a character, she just had a role to fill. Her complexity was accidental, and now she illustrates a dissonant character that brings more enrichment to the story than the main character herself.
Anyways, I just wanted to ramble a bit about a great post that got me thinking. Send it to me if anyone happens on it again, please!
Listen......if Desmond was in Edward Kenway's time. What if he accidentally became the king of Pirates. Like he became sailor get some currency cos dollar bills won't work and the ship he work in was attacked and captain just aborted and abandoned the ship so Desmond just used his bleed effecting and defeated the attackers but he's like the captain is gone fuck I can't go back and just sailed to find treasure chests (using eagle vision maybe) and made a reputation that reach Edward, Black beard, James and the pirate gang , the templars and assassins ears
I had to check if King of the Pirates was an actual thing and the closest I could find that wasn’t One Piece related was Henry Avery and I’m more familiar with him because of Uncharted 4 so I'm gonna borrow Uncharted 4's personality for Avery in this one.
So let’s say Desmond Miles got kicked into Black Flag timeline and he became a crew member of a certain pirate out of necessity because he just can’t seem to find any Assassins in this timeline.
The captain of the ship he’s on was good to him. Didn’t ask any questions and seemed okay with just Desmond doing whatever he wanted as long as he gets the work done. But Desmond starts to butt heads when the captain starts to get too greedy. Too brutal.
They started hitting on merchant ships, killing innocent sailors.
Of course, the captain starts to laugh, reminding Desmond that they were pirates.
This is what they do.
And Desmond realizes that he had been blind to the captain’s ruthlessness because of the kindness he showed.
The captain wasn’t kind for the sake of being kind. He was kind because he knew that would make Desmond trust him.
So Desmond did what he was trained to do.
He assassinates the captain.
And he gives the crew two options. Either they help him sail the ship to the nearest port and they all leave or they try and take down Desmond right here and now.
Of course, these are pirates and they stayed with their captain for a reason. Most of them attacked Desmond and it was only because of the knowledge he got from his Bleed that he even managed to take them all down. It’s a bloodbath, that’s for sure.
And, in the end, Desmond remains in the bloody ship with perhaps two or three crew members who didn’t attack him. Not enough to man the ship, of course, but…
They were transporting prisoners from the last ship they hit.
So Desmond makes a deal with them, help him sail the ship then they’re free to go.
It’s a tense voyage, of course. People not trusting each other. Desmond had to fight off three or four assassination attempts made by desperate people who weren’t really trying to kill him not out of greed but out of fear.
And when they finally reached the nearest port that wouldn’t just bombard them with cannon balls and other projectiles, Desmond gives each person the same amount of gold from the captain’s coffers and then left.
Or… tried to anyway.
When he was in the tavern, eating the first hot meal he’d had in months, some of the sailors and the remaining crew members came to his table.
Desmond was confused, of course, until the men spoke.
They were all wanted men now.
No one would believe them if they say that they were just let go by some strange man in a hood (“I’m not strange… am I?”).
They had nowhere else to go.
And now it was Desmond’s problem.
Desmond just wanted to find the freaking Assassins and maybe the reason why he’s in this time period for some reason.
But there is a sense of responsibility banging into his heart right now.
Seeing the downtrodden looks of every man at the table…
Desmond sighs and agrees to be their captain.
“But, if I’m going to be your captain, there’s gonna be some rules!”
“Whatever you say, cap’n.”
“And… the ship needs a makeover.”
“A what now?”
And that is how the legendary pirate king Henry Avery disappeared…
And Captain Desmond Miles of the Bad Weather (name subject to change) started roaming the seas as the strangest nicest pirate in the West Indies (who just so happens to have a knack for finding sunken and buried treasures)
What did you mean by twilight being “era specific” in your tags on the reblog about upcoming reboots?
I think that when Twilight came out, the book especially (which built a ground fanbase for the movie to launch from) there was less pseudointellectual web analysis, PLUS there was less care for the genuine problems with the series. In some ways, Twilight Discourse helped propel some early era "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" puritanical bullshit.
things people weren't clocking super heavily when Twilight came out that I think are legitimate issues:
--Stephenie Meyer is a devout Mormon, and as such her politics seep into the books; the conservativism surrounding sex despite the inherent titillation of "when will they fucking fuck"; the anti-choice messaging; the racism, which lemme tell you, has some Very Specific Implications when it comes from a Mormon author. (Now I.... clocked her as soon as I saw the name "Stephenie", and had it confirmed as soon as I read she was named that for her dad, for reasons I won't get into. But a lot of people didn't.)
--Going back to the racism... It's real bad, and the movies made it worse by casting a white guy the most important indigenous role. Everyone else was played by Native actors. Not Jacob Black, the third most crucial character in the entire series. The fact that they baldly got away with that in 2008? Says a lot. Like, they weren't even trying to pass him off, they just went "well, he can tan". In fact, I think Taylor Lautner SAID he'd work up a tan for the second movie. I mean, he was already pretty tan, the just sprayed him down further. Problem solved, right?
--Nessie is dumb as hell in general, but it's also like... so anti-choice. Like. Bella is literally dying lmao. But not only is it presented as Right and Understandable that she'd want to die to birth this demonic child--the crucial thing about this is that EDWARD, MY MAN, is presented as the bad guy for really, really wanting her to abort. He is being completely logical and a loving partner here. He rightly points out that they have no fucking idea what this kid is, and also, most importantly, he loves Bella and puts her first and wants her to LIVE. Can I just say--unintentionally, the romantic hero everyone was losing their shit over in 2005-2012? Being super about his wife having a life-saving abortion? Kind of iconic. Edward is a pro-choice ally, lmao. (He even tells Jacob like "FINE WHATEVER IF SHE WANTS A BABY THAT BAD YOU CAN FUCK HER IDGAF" in what is. Objectively. A hilarious scene. I've seen Edward antis try to paint this as like, him trying to control her bodily autonomy--dude, Edward could have physically forced Bella to get an abortion. He does not, he simply wants this woman to LIVE.)
But then, as soon as the demon baby is born, he's all in love with her because he realizes she was a Soul Baby this entire time. Lol. No. In a post-Dobbs world, I don't know how you do this, and I think that if you have to entirely redo a crucial part of the series, why. bother. making it.
Never mind Jacob falling in love with a baby.
There are other problems, obviously, but you also have the SAVE THE GIRLS FROM THEIR HORNY DESIRES crowd, who thinks the entire series should be thrown in the trash because Edward is a) abusive because he doesn't want Bella to go be a frosty delight and die or b) abusive because he does want Bella to be a frosty delight and die c) abusive because he doesn't put out (a truly wild take lmao, he's sexually manipulating belly by dangling his cherry in front of her, and she somehow has zero alternatives, certainly not the other guy vying for her hand) d) abusive because he like, tries to buy her a new car and give her nice things...? e) abusive because he doesn't love the idea of his girlfriend hanging out with another guy who tries to kiss her and shit f) abusive because he DOES want her to hang out with that guy and wants her t have werepuppies to distract from the loss of their demon babies.
There is a lot of discourse around Bella, Edward, and Jacob that I find very stupid. I cannot imagine it's going to be any better in a post-Twitter post-X world.
I also think that, frankly? The youth want different things. If they want vampires, they want the Gothic melodrama (and more racially conscious updates) of a show like Interview with the Vampire. If they want teen content, they want teen content that incorporates people who aren't universally cishet and white (Quileutes aside, and as we have discussed... bad).
UNFORTUNATELY, the teens are also less horny, apparently, than they were when I was a teen. Which I think is the result of puritanical stuff/the conservative appropriation and perversion of theoretically solid progressive concepts.... among other things... and we need to make it so that teens feel comfortable with exploring things in an emotionally and physically healthy way. BUT. That's going to take time, and I don't think that the thing that really helped Twilight surmount the discourse, which is that--we Twihards were largely very horny about it--is going to work right now.
Also; if you are not a puriteen, I don't really think Twilight's particular brand of "oh my god, he might just touch my lips while I wear my khaki skirt" horniness is going to work for you, either. Like I said, it was a specific time. The kids who were really anti-sex were less the liberals who are worried about fictional characters' consent being violated when we watched movies... It was Silver Ring Thing kids, who lemme tell you, as someone who did not partake but knew several... Those kids.... wanted to throw down. Really bad.
And so Twilight appealed to that mindset that was like, pervasive in 2008--you don't abstain because you don't or shouldn't want it, you abstain because it's this thing that you will be able to have as soon as it is Right to have it. Like the Jonas Brothers! They did that, right? They really committed to the purity rings, riiiiiiiiiight?
The knowledge that you're waiting for this thing that you have a semi-specific timestamp on (your wedding night) and it's going to be sooo worth the wait (it will not, at least not for a while lol) was this deeply titillating thing for much of the target audience, because that's what Twilight was almost literally evoking. Edward wouldn't have sex with Bella until their wedding night, but he TEASED her. The entire series was arguably abut this leadup to the sex. And boy, was it disappointing! But until it happened, I think the series really captured that breathless anticipation. And I just don't think people are currently very interested in that.
They might as well have been soaking
Also. Bella's dad is a cop.
Personality
Leta is a highly intelligent, sarcastic, witty, and cold woman. She’s rather reserved and blunt, making people somewhat intimidated at first glance. She can also be quite playful and somewhat flirty when she wants to be too. Although a bit of a hot head, Leta is a much calmer person than her Ultimis counterpart, Ria. Leta is more of a slow boil to anger instead of it being instantaneous.  Leta doesn’t take shit from anyone and will very much tell a person that straight to their face. Despite the somewhat harsh exterior, Leta is a deeply caring and loyal woman. And it shows through her actions.  When she loves, she loves with her whole being. Leta will always ensure her friends and loved ones are okay, usually being a voice of reason and a person to go to for advice.  Leta is also very perceptive.
Backstory
Leta is the illegitimate/bastard child of her mother (Rose) and father (Wayon). Wayon was a seasoned lawyer and owned a big farm. Rose was a young woman who worked as a sex worker and the fling with Wayon was supposed to be a one-time thing but an affair quickly blossomed between them. Rose was unaware that Wayon was a married man with two kids, finding out the truth when she shared the news of being pregnant with him.
Wayon wasn’t happy with the news, wanting her to get an abortion. But Rose insisted on keeping the child, at that point, she didn’t care about being with him but she knew she wanted to have this child and nothing was going to stop that.  At her refusal, Wayon ended things with her and left Rose to raise the baby alone. When Leta was born, Rose wanted to provide her with the best life could. Making work as a seamstress and putting her life as a sex worker behind her. It wasn’t much, the money but Leta grew up humbled and appreciated everything her mother did for her. Rose would attempt to date but her number one priority was Leta and it stayed that way.
Unfortunately, Rose grew rather sick early in Leta’s life. Wanting to help her mother, Leta took it upon herself to learn how to sew, make clothes, and help her mother’s shop. She also took small jobs from the people in their town to put extra money on the table, to pay for the necessities and her mom’s medicine. It was all for naught though as Rose had succumbed to her illness, Leta waking up to find her mother dead next to her.  Leta was only 6. Before she died, Rose had told her daughter who her father was. Even leaving a letter that should anything happen to her, Wayon would at least take his daughter in.
When Wayon got the news of Rose’s death and her wish for him to take his daughter in, he refused at first. Not wanting anything to do with his bastard child, it was his wife, Grace, taking sympathy for the 6-year-old, that convinced her husband to take her. And so he did, albeit grudgingly.  Leta was both scared and somewhat excited to see who her father was and looked like. Even more excited at the fact she had an older sister and brother. She learned very quickly though that her father didn’t exactly care for her, not like how he cared for his other children. Her older brother “Red” was happy to have a little sister to care for and the two hit it off like two peas in a pod. The eldest child and her sister, Mercy was a different case. Mercy didn’t like Leta for the simple fact that she was the bastard child, a walking reminder of her father’s adultery. Leta and Mercy’s relationship was very strained and although the two would have moments where they got along, Mercy was mainly cold and somewhat emotionally abusive to Leta. Letting her know she was a bastard child and that their father never wanted her. It was very apparent who was the favored daughter and the black sheep daughter. Grace never held any contempt for Leta, it wasn’t the child’s fault her husband slept with another woman. She treated Leta like she was her own. Leta also made friends with a girl named Sofia and a boy named Bruno. Sofia’s mother, Isabella was the town's local doctor.
When Leta was 13, Grace died from an illness, Mercy was married and already out of the house, and “Red” was currently enlisting in the Marines. The whole family was there for the funeral, “Red” had to go back to base and Mercy just wanted to go back to her own home. Leta was left with Wayon who had a downwind spiral after his wife’s death, turning to alcohol to soothe his pain.  He very quickly became abusive to Leta, physically and mentally. He would give her the lip and nose scar during a drunken rage of his and Leta would find refuge at Isa’s where she treated the wounds. Leta was far too scared to let anyone know of the abuse, instead learning how to avoid her father’s fits. There was one night, when Leta was 16 and her father attempted to molest her, so drunk that all he saw was Rose instead of Leta, and she fought back from his advances. She scratched his face up pretty badly and that led to another drunken rage where he slashed her left eye and whipped her back so badly, it was a miracle she didn’t die from blood loss. “Red” at the time was returning home for a bit and saw this play out. He beat Wayon to a bloody pulp before taking his baby sister and rushing her to Isa’s. Isa did the best she could, Leta would survive but with the addition of a scar on her left eye and multiple on her back to the ones on her lip and nose. “Red” would leave Leta in the guardianship of Isa as he had to return to base but he made sure to write letters to his sister and taught her how to shoot guns before he left. Leta would learn all things medical under the mentorship of Isa and would hang out with Sofia and Bruno when she had free time.
Two years later at 18,  Leta heard news of her father dying of tuberculosis. The only feeling she felt was a sense of relief, not too upset at his death. During his funeral which she attended out of basic respect, she got back in touch with Mercy. Mercy was 28 and pregnant with her first child, the eldest sibling would share her regrets with her sister. Said she was sorry for how she treated Leta growing up, how she should’ve never blamed her for their father’s adultery, and that she should’ve been a better sister.  Mercy was willing to start over with Leta and be the sister she should’ve been and Leta was happy to give Mercy that chance.
Unfortunately, a few months later, Mercy would die in childbirth and Leta’s niece, Chloe, was stillborn. Leta took her sister's and niece's deaths pretty hard. She would write to her brother-in-law, whom she met briefly at Grace’s funeral but was unable to hear back from him.  It seemed though that life had it out for her when she turned 19 and learned of her brother’s death from a letter sent by her brother-in-law Sterling. Leta fell into a deep depression after the news, being the last of her family, she would self-harm but Sofia and Bruno would manage to stop her from doing anything too drastic. It didn’t help that she also faced even more scorn from her town, first, it was about her lack of legitimacy and now it was how she was death incarnate, bringing death to those around her, earning her the nickname La Muerte.  It was at that time that she adopted the cold, reserved, and intimidating persona as a way to protect herself from any more hurt.
Sterling would visit Leta a few months after “Red’s” death to talk, Leta would humor her brother-in-law and Sterling offered her a position as a nurse in the Marines. He also said she can do work as a spy too. Leta was skeptical at first, asking Sterling why he would offer her that. Sterling would say that he knew Leta wasn’t your average woman and saw her potential, adding that “Red” had asked him to take care of Leta.  The young Arkon thought about his offer, seeing a chance to prove not only her worth but her father wrong. Wayon always talked about how Leta was a disappointment of a woman, that she would never aspire to anything, that the only good thing she could do is be an obedient little housewife, and that she was simply an unwanted bastard.
She would join Sterling and, while she mainly worked as a nurse, would work some missions as a spy for Sterling when needed. Leta meets Dempsey after returning from a spy mission Sterling gave her, it was a brief interaction, but Dempsey was immediately taken in by Leta’s fierce attitude and her sass. Leta had to admit that she felt something when they first interacted, but she wouldn’t say it out loud. The second moment between them happened when she treated his wounds, the two conversing and smiling. It ended when they shared a kiss. Dempsey, however, knew Leta was scared to make anything official. He told her he’d be there for her whenever she was ready. Leta appreciated it. She was frightened as this was her first love, her first relationship, so she wanted to take things slow.
When she was 20, she lost Sterling as a casualty of war. The two of them were on a mission to retrieve letters that had information on the Germans. Sterling sacrificed himself so that Leta could get back safely. Leta would make it back with the letters, but she came back empty and nearly broken. She would’ve fallen into another pit of depression if it wasn’t for Tank. He comforted her and gifted her a heart-shaped locket. They decided at that moment to cement their relationship and make it official.
Two days after her 21st birthday, Leta and Dempsey were sent to Northern France on a mission to capture a member of group 935 as an H.V.T. 8 months later, they would form a team with Takeo Masaki and Nikolai Belinski. The 4 of them would join Richtofen on a journey to create a better tomorrow.
Would love to see some Ouizzy. I often think of how Frenchie replies in episode 1, "Bottle it up?" So maybe a piece of Frenchie and Izzy, gradually unbottling with one another?
"What do you do when it gets too much?"
"Shut the fuck up, Frenchie," says Izzy, not looking up from the scrap of paper in his hands, which he's making notations on as they walk down the aisles of stock on the merchant vessel.
"That's it?" asks Frenchie, raising his eyebrows and half-leaning over him as he gets closer. "You just shut the fuck up?"
"You know damn well that was a fucking order, not an answer."
"Is the answer the same as the order?"
"Christ, will it kill you for once in your life to be quiet?"
"Spent a long part of my life being quiet," says Frenchie mildly, and he watches the way that Izzy aborts halfway through whatever nasty cunt thing he was gonna say next, watches him open his mouth, close it, work his jaw, give Frenchie a very frustrated, sideways glare.
"Are you gonna bring that up every time you don't like my fucking tone?"
"What, bring up my life?" asks Frenchie. "My like, entire life, my entire tragic backstory? What, does it offend you, old man?"
"Don't call me that."
"You are an old man."
"You're very nearly an old fucking man yourself, unless I see fit to stop you short."
"Is that the solution to not talking about your feelings? Killing anybody who asks?"
"Frenchie, we need to do this fucking inventory."
"So answer me," says Frenchie, spreading his hands and looking down at the crotchety little fucker, "and we can get back to it."
He only pushes because Izzy does relent, after a fashion. Frenchie doesn't know exactly what it's like for him, at the moment - Ed's drowned in a bottle half the time, and while Izzy is at his side more often than not, while they seem to have some kind of rapport where Izzy acts like his shadow, it's... Frenchie's not stupid, and neither's Jim - there's something off about it, the thing between them.
He's not stupid enough to ask about that.
"What was the question?" asks Izzy, putting his hands on his hips and looking flatly at Frenchie.
"What do you do," Frenchie repeats, "when it gets too much? Like-- emotionally?"
Izzy leans lightly back on his heels, even though his facial expression doesn't change, staying flat-lipped and kinda cool.
"'Cause Ed drinks," says Frenchie. "Do you do that?"
Izzy shakes his head."I just-- I just fucking... I don't do anything. I lose my temper, sometimes. With Edward. With--"
"With fucking anybody, mate."
"Yes, fucking thanks for that, Frenchie. I lose my temper sometimes - I walk away. I just get so fucking... I don't fucking know. Frazzled with it. So I walk away, I come back."
"But what about like, other shit? Existential shit?"
"I don't fucking-- I don't have existential shit."
"Liar. You stare dramatically out at the horizon like, every other night."
"Okay, then I guess that's what I fucking do," snaps Izzy, and looks back at his paper. "Why, what do you do?"
"Bottle it up," says Frenchie, half-grinning.
It shocks a laugh out of Izzy, makes him crumple forward slightly with it, his face twisting up like he's so unused to laughing his face doesn't know what to do with it, and then he elbows Frenchie in the side - so lightly Frenchie doesn't even stumble - and says again, "Shut the fuck up, Frenchie."
Frenchie smiles, and ignores the weird, kinda hollow feeling in his chest as he follows after Izzy through the stacks of inventory.
A question for Twilight aus. Ok...what if Belle really take issue with Jasper's past? So much she wants nothing to do with the Cullens.
Like as much they are perfection in her eyes...lets assume this "flaw" would bersmish the Cullens for her(assuming it would)
Would things go well for everyone?
Ha.
Ha ha.
Ha ha ha.
No.
First, Bella Didn't
Bella is, to put it delicately, very non-judgemental to an almost concerning degree.
Jessica tells her outright the Cullens are incestuous: Bella thinks that's nice of them and wonders why Jessica judges them so much. Rude, Jessica.
Edward tells Bella all about the time he planned her murder (and the Biology class) in cold blood, how he despised her afterwards for ruining his life by existing, and how his family gathered around a table and discussed whether or not they should kill her: wow, Edward-senpai, you're so amazing.
Edward tells Bella that he uh actually left the diet once for several years and ate many many people. "That's okay because they were all bad people."
Bella then asks an appalled Edward (and later Carlisle) why the Cullens even bother with the diet. Sounds like hard work.
"I'd like not to eat people, Bella," - Edward
Bella hears about how the Cullens have historically had accidents and Bella herself nearly was one. Doesn't phase her at all.
Bella thinks Jacob/the wolves are eating people in New Moon? Bella gives Jake a stern talking to about how the Cullens live on animals so the wolves surely can to. (Jake, for the record, is appalled at the mere suggestion that the wolves are doing this like a sane person.)
Jasper's history is one in a long line of concerning things that have been said to Bella that she doesn't give a flying fuck about.
Even if she was mildly concerned, she wouldn't jeopardize her future with the Cullens and Edward based off a dislike of Jasper. If she's turned, then she can deal with the Jasper issue. If not then her life is meaningless and pointless.
But if Bella Did Do This
Even if Bella really takes issue with Jasper's history, there's an easy solution: she has Edward kick Jasper out or she and Edward leave the family.
Bella doesn't have to give up being a vampire or the rest of the Cullens just because Jasper sucks. Edward has said as much several times: Jasper isn't even a really integral member of the family. He's Alice's plus one.
Bella goes on a quest to get Alice to dump Jasper (which she may or may not do depending how the visions play out). Edward is distressed but figures he and Bella can honeymoon somewhere for a bit until he can talk her down.
"Hooray for me!" - Bella Swan
She's Not Allowed to Like the Cullens Anymore
Same thing happens except she tells Edward they're leaving the Cullens after he turns her. They're going off on their own, his family sucks because they hang out with people like Jasper.
Edward would become increasingly distressed as it becomes increasingly clear Bella's serious (and Bella for that matter is picking fights with the family who are not warming up to her).
However, if Edward separates Bella from them... Then Carlisle can't turn her, can he?
Edward and Bella have their honeymoon in Rio (Edward talked Bella into inviting the Cullens to his wedding) where a month later Bella dies when a child bursts from her womb.
Alternately, Edward eats out the child himself in an abortion attempt that goes horribly wrong and Bella dies.
Edward murders it then head to Jacob asking him to kill him.
Bella Doesn't Like Edward Anymore Either
I mean, this really would never happen (and I love that your reasoning is that "Bella doesn't like Jasper so uh I guess she doesn't like anyone now". I just love that you supplied a reason and that reason is this.
The thing is, Bella still wants to be a vampire.
A lot.
So much.
Sure, it doesn't mean much if she's not with Edward but... she really really really wants to be a vampire.
"What was that about your cousins?" Bella ends up subtly (not at all) asking Edward, thinking that if she doesn't join the Cullens she can join the Denali.
They're on the diet too, they sound like wonderful people, they love and respect people so much they even make love to them, and none of them are Jasper or are living with Jasper.
It's the perfect fit!
Bella starts grilling Edward on the Denali while also avoiding him as much as possible (Edward has no idea what's going on and is terrified).
Bella, for her own part, is getting very cold feet about this wedding (as she only learned Jasper's full history in Eclipse) but... The Denali will show up, and it may be her only opportunity.
Long story short, Bella recreates the Graduate with Eleazar and Edward. Eleazar whisks off Edward's would be bride, in front of the whole town, to Alaska.
(Bella's mortified, but she gets to be a vampire and not married to Edward who lives with Jasper.)
"Did she just run off with your uncle?" - Mike Newton.
(Jacob, for his own part, can't even believe it as he somehow didn't lose to Edward but still lost.)
Bella very quickly uses the Denali as replacement Cullens and eagerly does her best to fit in with her new found family. Terrible things ensue.
Personality
Leta is a highly intelligent, sarcastic, witty, and cold woman. She’s rather reserved and blunt, making people somewhat intimidated at first glance. She can also be quite playful and somewhat flirty when she wants to be too. Although a bit of a hot head, Leta is a much calmer person than her Ultimis counterpart, Ria. Leta is more of a slow boil to anger instead of it being instantaneous. Leta doesn’t take shit from anyone and will very much tell a person that straight to their face. Despite the somewhat harsh exterior, Leta is a deeply caring and loyal woman. And it shows through her actions. When she loves, she loves with her whole being. Leta will always ensure her friends and loved ones are okay, usually being a voice of reason and a person to go to for advice. Leta is also very perceptive.
Backstory
Leta is the illegitimate/bastard child of her mother (Rose) and father (Wayon). Wayon was a seasoned lawyer and owned a big farm. Rose was a young woman who worked as a sex worker and the fling with Wayon was supposed to be a one-time thing but an affair quickly blossomed between them. Rose was unaware that Wayon was a married man with two kids, finding out the truth when she shared the news of being pregnant with him.
Wayon wasn’t happy with the news, wanting her to get an abortion. But Rose insisted on keeping the child, at that point, she didn’t care about being with him but she knew she wanted to have this child and nothing was going to stop that. At her refusal, Wayon ended things with her and left Rose to raise the baby alone.
When Leta was born, Rose wanted to provide her with the best life could. Making work as a seamstress and putting her life as a sex worker behind her. It wasn’t much, the money but Leta grew up humbled and appreciated everything her mother did for her. Rose would attempt to date but her number one priority was Leta and it stayed that way. Unfortunately, Rose grew rather sick early in Leta’s life. Wanting to help her mother, Leta took it upon herself to learn how to sew, make clothes, and help her mother’s shop. She also took small jobs from the people in their town to put extra money on the table, to pay for the necessities and her mom’s medicine. It was all for naught though as Rose had succumbed to her illness, Leta waking up to find her mother dead next to her. Leta was only 6. Before she died, Rose had told her daughter who her father was. Even leaving a letter that should anything happen to her, Wayon would at least take his daughter in.
When Wayon got the news of Rose’s death and her wish for him to take his daughter in, he refused at first. Not wanting anything to do with his bastard child, it was his wife, Grace, taking sympathy for the 6-year-old, that convinced her husband to take her. And so he did, albeit grudgingly.
Leta was both scared and somewhat excited to see who her father was and looked like. Even more excited at the fact she had an older sister and brother. She learned very quickly though that her father didn’t exactly care for her, not like how he cared for his other children. Her older brother “Red” was happy to have a little sister to care for and the two hit it off like two peas in a pod. The eldest child and her sister, Mercy was a different case. Mercy didn’t like Leta for the simple fact that she was the bastard child, a walking reminder of her father’s adultery. Leta and Mercy’s relationship was very strained and although the two would have moments where they got along, Mercy was mainly cold and somewhat emotionally abusive to Leta. Letting her know she was a bastard child and that their father never wanted her.
It was very apparent who was the favored daughter and the black sheep daughter.
Grace never held any contempt for Leta, it wasn’t the child’s fault her husband slept with another woman. She treated Leta like she was her own.
Leta also made friends with a girl named Sofia and a boy named Bruno. Sofia’s mother, Isabella was the town's local doctor.
When Leta was 13, Grace died from an illness, Mercy was married and already out of the house, and “Red” was currently enlisting in the Marines. The whole family was there for the funeral, “Red” had to go back to base and Mercy just wanted to go back to her own home. Leta was left with Wayon who had a downwind spiral after his wife’s death, turning to alcohol to soothe his pain. He very quickly became abusive to Leta, physically and mentally. He would give her the lip and nose scar during a drunken rage of his and Leta would find refuge at Isa’s where she treated the wounds. Leta was far too scared to let anyone know of the abuse, instead learning how to avoid her father’s fits. There was one night, when Leta was 16 and her father attempted to molest her, so drunk that all he saw was Rose instead of Leta, and she fought back from his advances. She scratched his face up pretty badly and that led to another drunken rage where he slashed her left eye and whipped her back so badly, it was a miracle she didn’t die from blood loss.
“Red” at the time was returning home for a bit and saw this play out. He beat Wayon to a bloody pulp before taking his baby sister and rushing her to Isa’s. Isa did the best she could, Leta would survive but with the addition of a scar on her left eye and multiple on her back to the ones on her lip and nose.
“Red” would leave Leta in the guardianship of Isa as he had to return to base but he made sure to write letters to his sister and taught her how to shoot guns before he left. Leta would learn all things medical under the mentorship of Isa and would hang out with Sofia and Bruno when she had free time.
Two years later at 18, Leta heard news of her father dying of tuberculosis. The only feeling she felt was a sense of relief, not too upset at his death. During his funeral which she attended out of basic respect, she got back in touch with Mercy. Mercy was 28 and pregnant with her first child, the eldest sibling would share her regrets with her sister. Said she was sorry for how she treated Leta growing up, how she should’ve never blamed her for their father’s adultery, and that she should’ve been a better sister. Mercy was willing to start over with Leta and be the sister she should’ve been and Leta was happy to give Mercy that chance.
