Rathalaugust 2023 Day 14: Dodogama
Dodogama is a Fanged Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter: World.
Dodogama has a similar body type to its relative, Great Jagras, with blue scales and orange stripes covering its body. It has a massive bottom jaw used for storing rocks in its mouth, which will turn orange when they become volatile.
Dodogama is known to defend itself using the rocks it consumes. When these rocks are combined with its saliva they become explosive in nature, becoming a powerful explosive projectile that it can spit at predators and other aggressors. However, damaging its jaw enough after it has eaten can cause the rocks within its mouth to prematurely explode, briefly weakening the monster. It is also capable of using a charge attack that generates Blast-inflicting sparks.
Deviljho will pick up and flail Dodogama around as a weapon when encountered each other. Otherwise, despite being considered a lower monster in the food chain, Dodogama can still protect itself and its territory against other monsters lurking in the Elder's Recess thanks to its projectiles.
Dodogama is a fairly docile monster, only fighting Hunters if they attack it first or if it is already fighting another large monster.

Another old sketch, one of the first MonHun muses I had; a fanged wyvern combining traits of gharials and gorgonopsids. - TORRENIAL Title - Gharial wyvern Monster class - Fanged wyvern Known locales - Coastal regions, marshlands and oases Element/ailment - Water Elemental weakness - Ice (3), Thunder (2), Dragon (1), Fire (0), Water (0) Ailment weakness - Poison (2), Stun (2), Blast (1), Paralysis (1), Sleep (1) Torrenial is a fanged wyvern predominantly native to coastal regions and marshlands, with some populations eking out a living by desert oases and rivers. Distinguished by its long snout and pale-brown colours, Torrenial is a formidable apex predator whose defensive integrity of its scutes complements its powerful jaws. Six flexible ports along its sides discharge water at high pressure from internal sacs, enabling both bursts of mobility and surprisingly effective projectile attacks. Torrenial is an ambush predator that specialises in lurking in shallow bodies of water, usually in the lagoons or rivers in coastal regions. It patiently waits for prey to come to the water's edge before lunging, combining its own sheer strength with bursts of speed to seize the victim and drag it underwater. It occasionally ventures into deeper water to catch fish if need be. Excelling in catching prey and rivals by surprise, Torrenial is liable to attack most anything that passes by the water, but it is comparatively passive if traversing on land. While humans are not usually worth the predator's interest, field workers are nevertheless advised to stay away from Torrenial and not to go near shallow bodies of water without first checking the fanged wyvern isn't present. Its ability to discharge water from its ports makes Torrenial formidable. It can change directions, reverse or strike from a distance with controlled bursts of water. Combined with its strength and jaws, this allows Torrenial to easily overpower most other monsters, especially if in its element. Torrenial exhibit sexual dimorphism; adult males have a large sturdy knob on their snout called a ghara. Males use the ghara to display to females and intimidate rival males, resonating sound through it to signal their vitality. Males are highly competitive, contending for territories that ideally overlap with three to four females; usually they use their ghara to settle disputes, but occasionally they will resort to wrestling; these brawls rarely result in injury. The females in a male's territory congregate to lay eggs at the centre of his turf, which the male diligently guards until the infants hatch and disperse to shadow their mothers. Their father will tolerate them but no longer makes an effort to protect them. The mother's care will only last for a year or so until the juveniles are old enough to find their own way in the world. As an apex predator comparable to monsters like Rathalos, Torrenial should only be challenged by experienced hunters (Low Rank - 5, High/Master Rank - 4). Hunters must be wary of facing the fanged wyvern in its natural environment; Torrenial may be lurking in any body of water, waiting to strike. Sonic bombs can surprise and expose it, and keeping the fight on land is crucial for forcing the fanged wyvern to empty its aqua sacs, reducing its effectiveness. Fully grown Torrenial knows few threats beyond elder dragons. Coastal individuals occasionally contend with competition from the likes of Plesioth or Lagiacrus, but hunting further inland alleviates this issue. Individuals in the desert can run afoul of the likes of Monoblos, but taking to the water allows them to avoid a needless fight. Juveniles, of course, can become prey for carnivores like Hyborlex, but a vigilant adult can see off most threats. - Thanks for reading and take care

Patrogaron
A small fanged wyvern found in mountain and volcanic regions. This is an agile and curious beast who won't hesistate to challenge bigger monsters. It's diet is made of small animals and ore. Armor of patrogaron is light but allows for great mobility while providing good protection. Patrogaron can shoot sparks which while not deadly for most monsters , can still be quite dangerous. Claws of this fanged wyverns are quite sharp and mostly used to move in rocky landscape.

Sun-scorched sands
Nary a scrap to be found
But for this gluttonous brute
There's plenty to go around
A perfect simpleton
Gorging without care
To fill his cavernous gut
No stone shall be spared

Monster Hunter fanmade designs part 1/3! I had the idea of sketching a monster for each European Union member state. Given that lands & monsters of The Kingdom, and Elgado Outpost, in Sunbreak are based on European folklore, I can picture them fitting in there. I tried to avoid any designs overly similar to the Three Lords, though there's probably some shared motifs.
Tumblr media
Small monsters. Hibboppos is based on the Cypriot dwarf hippopotamus (Hippopotamus minor, formerly Phanourios minor), Asclepier is based on the medical symbol known as an asklepius, Rozabii is... a rose & a bee.
Tumblr media
🇵🇹 Doge, Duke and Duce, used as noble or military titles in medieval to modern Europe, derive from the Latin Dux (General). Doge Langoutaur is an early-game monster comparable to a mix of Daimyo Hermitaur and Seltas. Considered a delicacy in many villages.
Tumblr media
🇵🇱 An impoverished family who could not afford to decorate their Christmas tree woke on the 25th of December to find that a spider had covered the conifer with webbing while they slept, which now shone silver with morning dew. Thus came the legend of the yule spider and the invention of tinsel. Only in this case, she's using her silk to inflict iceblight. Bring some Nulberries.
Tumblr media
🇸🇪 It's said that a Kalmogoth can kill with its breath alone. This is surely an exaggeration, although it smells so stomach-turningly foul it's easy to see how people reached that conclusion. It's hard to stomach a potion when you feel like retching, so watch out for the reach of his long, slimy tail.
Tumblr media
🇩🇰 Fenrogaron is a toned down version of Odogaron and Lunagaron, with a fairly basic attack pattern and no element, but he has one trick up his sleeve. Like Gypceros, he'll play dead and wait for unwary foes to approach, before leaping up to clamp his jaws on them.
Tumblr media
🇫🇮 Rounding out the Nordics is Saunoth, a remarkably chill amphibian that really just wants to be left alone. Inhabiting remote marshes and fens, it superheats its body with a specialised organ, seemingly with no ill effects. This causes the scummy water it wallows in to boil and bubble like a cauldron, sometimes overflowing its banks in a sulphur-smelling wave. Capable of inflicting fireblight, waterblight and bubbleblight, it is not to be underestimated, despite its sleepy temperament.
Tumblr media
🇮🇪 Ah, my fair green country. The legend of Cú Chulainn is well known, but I also wanted to work a different hound into this design; the semiaquatic, pair-bonding Dobhar-chú. Though rather hapless on land, it is remarkably swift in water, and once blood is spilled it will lose all notions of self-preservation in favour of feeding.
Tumblr media
🇧🇬 The sweet-smelling sovereign of the hive, the Rozabii Queen is a venomous and thorny, capable even of taking on small wyverns. Despite the danger, hunters seek out hives of this monarch to plunder her most precious treasure - a delicious, chewy, rose-scented plant gum called lokum that is a prized trade commodity.
Tumblr media
🇭🇺 Unusually for a fanged wyvern, the Szábray is herbivorous, but never make the mistake of assuming her harmless. Fast, powerful and bad-tempered, she won't hesitate to run down any threat she can smell. Her hooves, horn, claws and tail make swift work of most enemies. Throughout history, domestication has been attempted to create the most imposing of steeds, but wyverns don't breed well in captivity and pose a danger most of all to their rider.
Unless you're in Monster Hunter Stories.
Tumblr media
🇭🇷 A mischievous, inquisitive and quite frankly annoying wyvern that scales pine trees in the blink of an eye and rains down incendiary quills, igniting brief but intense blazes that stop pursuers in their tracks. Anyone who braves this assault and fells the pest is rewarded with a pelt so soft and fine that, once carefully stripped of its barbs, it is considered attire fit for a king.

30 Day Monster Hunter Original Monster Art Challenge
Since I've been seeing a lot of lists like this go up for Inktober, I thought it would be fun to put something like this out there for Spooky Month, and I’m currently on a Monster Hunter kick so I made up this list. The challenge is to make original monsters for all the categories. The subspecies/variants etc. are based on monsters you already made (for example, a subspecies of your bird wyvern, or a deviant of your amphibian). If you need examples, check out the wiki (Here, here and here) or just ask!
Feel free to share this with others, and tag your art as #30daymonhunOCs so I can see them!

Rathalaugust 2023 Day 26: Lunagaron
Lunagaron is a Fanged Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
Lunagaron is a large, wolf-like Fanged Wyvern similar in appearance to New World Fanged Wyverns such as Odogaron and Tobi-Kadachi. Its body is covered in cobalt scales with white edges, with several ridges running down its back.
Like other Fanged Wyverns, it is very agile and can easily climb up and jump off walls and large rocks. It is agile enough to perform several attacks in a row using its front legs, as well as acrobatic movements. Although normally quadrupedal, Lunagaron has a "true-form" in which it takes a bipedal stance. Additionally, Lunagaron can chill the air it inhales with a special organ, which then circulates throughout its body as a unique form of thermoregulation. It can also use this ability to form ice armor on itself during combat and breath mist of frost.
Born hunter, Lunagaron feeds on smaller monsters, including some smaller size large monsters like Aknosom. It often competes with other dangerous monsters like Zinogre, Garangolm and Malzeno/Primordial Malzeno, often in Turf Wars around various locales, such as the Citadel.
Lunagaron is first encountered in the Shrine Ruins of Kamura; however, its main domain is the ice caverns of Elgado's Citadel. Due to its special thermoregulation skill, Lunagaron has been seen living in non-cold areas such as the Jungle (MHRS).

This one is based on marina iguanas, and the concept of sessile organisms/algae adhering to a creature - URROXAN
Title - Algal wyvern Monster class - Fanged wyvern Known locales - Shores of frigid seas, occasional forays to temperate coasts Element/ailment - Sleep + Soiled Elemental weakness - Thunder (3), Fire (2), Dragon (2), Water (0), Ice (0) Ailment weakness - Paralysis (3), Stun (2), Blast (2), Sleep (0), Poison (0) Urroxan is a unique fanged wyvern adapted to handling the oceans of frigid regions, as well as occasional migrations to more temperate waters. Known for its camouflage of grey and white scales, alongside the myriad of sessile organisms and algae adhered to its body, Urroxan's fluked tail propels it easily through water. The enlarged throat sac and the fleshy 'ports' on its shoulders both emit strange chemicals with which it can defend itself should its camouflage fail. A herbivore specialised in feeding on seaweeds and other forms of marine algae and flora, Urroxan spends most of its time lounging on the coastlines of tundra, or the occasional temperate zone or estuary. It can occasionally supplement its diet with coral or other hard-shelled organisms, but generally it prefers to provide such lifeforms a place upon its back. Forming a symbiotic relationship based on mutual survival, Urroxan is adept at evading attack. Because of this, it has a rather shy but docile nature, and will tolerate humans in close proximity provided they make no sudden motions. Field researchers are advised to likewise coat themselves in any seaweeds to give Urroxan the impression of familiarity, reducing the risk of attack. Though quick to lash out with its teeth, claws and strong tail if need be, Urroxan would rather rely on its ailments to protect itself. The ports on its shoulders release a thick gas that induces a sedative effect in any that breathe it in. Using its tail fluke, Urroxan can quickly spread or reposition the gas it produces, ensuring enemies can't flank it. The enlarged throat sac contains a noxious bile that Urroxan can spit with impressive accuracy. This foul chemical repels most monsters by damaging the eyes and nostrils, and is known to inflict the Soiled status on hunters. Principally, Urroxan prefers to avoid violence, using camouflage when possible. Urroxans will gather with their kind in large creches when lounging on coastlines, ensuring mutual protection. The species seem to be parthenogenetic, as these individuals will build nests and produce eggs without observations of mating. These nesting sites are a lure to many juvenile arthropod species, hoping to sneak past a parent and steal eggs. To this end, Urroxan attract the attention of Frezarion, a brute wyvern dedicated to hunting arthropods, and allow it free roam in their colony to deal with the pests. It is unknown what compels Urroxan to change habitats between cold and temperate seas. Some believe it is to evade the attention of their nemesis Zopristis, though others contend it is to reduce intraspecifc competition. Though equipped with ailments and reasonable physical strength, Urroxan is not a particularly threatening monster (Low Rank - 3, High/Master Rank - 2). Hunters are advised to bring repellants against bile and gas when facing it, and must make sure to target the less defended underside or joints lest their weapons catch on Urroxan's unique armour. Urroxan tends to avoid predation thanks to its camouflage and ailments. That said, it may occasionally be harassed by the likes of Hyborlex and Orcina Krai, and certainly fears predators like Torrenial and Lagiacrus. However, Urroxan's nemesis is the piscine wyvern Zopristis, who is resilient against its defences and has a paralyzing sting to stun the fanged wyvern. Only by putting its body in a torpid state can Urroxan hope to fool Zopristis's detection of electrical signals. - Thank you for reading and take care.
