Week 1 recap - Goals!

The core concept of this week came from a comparison one of my loved ones made. While I was in burnout, it was like I was in hospital. Now that I’m doing better, that doesn’t mean I’m actually doing ok (or should expect myself to be at my peak functionining). Instead, I’m on bed rest, recharging as much as possible as I comletely wore my batteries out. Any small improvement is a bonus, but not a sudden expectation to do way more.

GOAL A!

Alternate rest with being kind to myself about where I'm at

I managed this quite well. I slept A LOT, and allowed myself to do nothing, or something fun and recharging, whenever I wasn’t flat out at work. I also kept a journal to write out kinder interpretations of how I was feeling, and what I was doing.

Next week: Apply a new concept from counselling whereby I turn up the volume on positive experiences (HEAL: Have a positive experience, Enrich it, Absorb it, +)

GOAL B!

Focus on goal A (while being conscious that I will have to push myself for work)

While I got all the core things done which I needed to at work, it really helped to have full permission to prioritise making things easier for myself.

Next week: Kindness and forgiveness --> Keep a journal every day which focuses on being kind to myself about how I do and don’t cope with a full on week. Forgive myself if I don’t reach my expectations.

23 things for 2023

1. buy 1 horse

Done!! Bought Luna!!!

2. Knit a pair of socks

I knit a sock, that I finished today. But I mostly decided I wanted to knit other things instead so this is fine

3. Three camping trips

went to mt of the holy cross, and New Mexico for two camping nights, plus a day hike in winter park. So technically no but pretty close!

4. Plant four pumpkins

…..no. I bought seeds and did nothing and I don’t feel that bad about it

5. Handstand (five fingers) press

Lol no. Did nothing for it. Never made a plan and so did not achieve

6. Kill side yard weeds (because weeds are the devil 666)

Success? I paid a Gardner to pull them all so yes! Feels like a failure because I didn’t really deal with them or the yard in general, but they are all gone now.

7. Go to Loyola social justice meeting (7th heaven)

I went to a meeting! And baked cookies for an event. (And then never went back oops)

8. Mail 8 letters to mates - birthday cards probably

Success! (Rebecca birthday, Sarah birthday, Clare get well card, Callie birthday, Alison birthday, clare birthday, Callie wedding, clare kt recipe card)

9. Research 9 hours of getting a cat (9 lives)

Decided a horse was enough so stopped researching 🤷‍♀️[ read complete guide to adopting a cat 3 hours]

10. Do ten full pull ups

Total yes, in a row like intended absolutely not. I can do like 2.5 in a row. Made haphazard progress, but now I have a pull up bar so hoping for better next year!

11. Buy 11 things off of my to buy eventually list

Success! This was easy and I did it! (air fryer, air mattress, nice soap dispensers, office mat, thermometer, fire extinguisher, white tank top, little plates, shower cleaner, plastic drain pipes, sheet pan organizer, bonus: back door light bulb, rainbow flag and holder, more bras)

12. Go on 12 dates

Success! I thought this would be really hard but then I just got my boyfriend by like February and it ended up being the easiest ny resolution ever. He even asked me out to start.

13. Run a half marathon 13.1 miles

Success! (Okay this was a gimme because I signed up for it and had a training plan in 2022 but still)

14. Hike a fourteener

Success! mt of the holy cross and it was terrifying and very long but we did it!

15. Read 30 (15x2) books

I read 27 and have three in various states of completion. I kind of wanted to power this one thru but it wouldn’t have been fun and then what’s the point. This one is hard because I abandoned so so many books this year. Like I made it at least one chapter into like 40 and a couple half way thru. So close but no cigar but I refuse to read things that aren’t fun just to hit a goal so I feel fine about it.

16. Host 8 things

Hosted 3, organized a couple others so partial credit. I would like to do better in the future. ( galentines, whimsy brunch, birthday, organized brunch at watercourse, organized lake day)

17. Go out dancing (must be more dancing than drinking, dance class counts.)(dancing queen only 17)

Nope. But also that’s fine.

18. Upgrade phone and deal with all photos. Upload belize to fb and save others. Data management

Mostly. I got an external storage for Christmas so I can finish when I get home. So solid partial credit. (uploaded some. Upgraded phone plus new battery, still need to get data off of it) [email protected] [email protected]

19. General contractor for house cracks plus install air conditioner

Success. Installed ac. Got the cracks looked at once and they were fine and then they got worse and now I’m getting foundation work done. So success I guess.

20. Get 20 layout ds

… I did not count. I def got some but probably not 20 so partial credit. (4 from leiout)

21. Go to frisbee Masters regionals

Success! Another bit of gimme but we went and qualified to nationals!)

22. Buy purple navel jewelry (I’m feeling 22)

Success! (And I love it)

23. volunteer for 23 hours

No and I feel bad about it. I need to find something to volunteer with. I feel like I should have the time/be able to make time but it also feels like I never have time and also never want to. But I think it’s important.

So overall full success on 11 of the goals, happy partial on 5, annoyed partial on 2, abandoned 4 and failed my last one and feel bad about it.

But overall pretty good success!

Sooo, I came up short this year. Why can't we hold ourselves accountable??!! lol

I feel like I'm so behind now in my goals and where I want to be in life at this time. Not saying that things are awful, things are ok, but def can be better.

It's time guys! We are leveling up in 2024. We can do it. I can do it. I want to post more often here. Engage more with people on social media. Give more opinions/reviews on tv shows, games, movies and music.

I'm such a fangirl of music, tv shows, movies. I really haven't played many games as I need a new system. Hope to have a new gaming system in 2024.

I need to do better on Letterboxd.

I need to do better with content creation.

I need to attend more events. Then I can bring more content

I was much more experimental this year traditionally. Plus, with college, I was really limited by my digital art. September and November were so bare because of finals ☠️ So hoping in 2024 I can change that!

Below are some future plans, updates, and my thoughts about what I want to do in the next few years moving forward!

[ MY GOALS ]

My goal for 2023 was: practice animated pixels and animation in general on my Youtube channel. I hit that goal decently, and for Artfight I created a ton of wiggle icons and animated pixel piece commissions. As for Youtube, I was able to produce around 9 animated videos! It doesn't seem like a lot, but with my time constraints I'm pretty proud of it. Though, I still have a long list of ideas to get through..

My new goals for 2024: finish at least 3 animatics I've started. I want to see them come to light! I also want to branch out and explore more community interaction on my other platforms. My Instagram has always been dead, and I'm terrified of the day Deviant Art finally dies. So please go visit my Insta if you are more active there!

I'll also be visiting TikTok and Etsy in the future for a physical product store coming soon..

I plan to update the themes on my social media accounts as well. I want to launch a new brand idea with my characters called "The Art Market". So that is in future development as of now. It'll mainstream my commissions, along with YCHs and Adoptables. So, super excited for that!

If I could impart one thing on the tumblr media discourse, it would be the idea of framing. Sometimes characters are bad on purpose. Sometimes they're bad on accident. Both instances say something about the story

#tbh? this is coming up in my brain because ive been thinking about gossip girl #the mikes mic video just came out #and i was like 'hang on. blake lively plays the exact same character in both gossip girl and sisterhood of the traveling pants' #but sisterhood is more meaningful and gossip girl is more. frustrating #probably because one frames livelys character as a vulnerable grieving teen who is not responsible for how adults take advantage of her #(more or less) #and one frames livelys character as an irresistable seductress. the dream girl. if you're with her youve one. shes the golden trophy #but let me be clear. serena has been taken advantage of by the adults in her life since she was a child #she cant grow because she knows no other way #but gossip girl isnt interested in that idea #also? theyre two different pieces of media with two different goals. im entertained by mikes recaps of gg. its pretty wack #its not bad. and i would even say its fun to like it. lily is mother and all that #it just like. it should give you SOME pause. if a 18/19 year old is dating a 26 year old married man because he finds her so irresistible #and the show frames that as 'yeah. thats serenas charm. shes the it girl' #then. thats bad lmao. that doesnt make me a purist #if youre with her youve won* lmao

To summarise:

Welcome to Riverdale, the town where you can’t stop progress. The secret, of course, is not to make any, to begin with.

Remember how Archie couldn’t help Tabitha because he had his ass handed to him by Percival? That was last week. This week he can in fact go against Percival. Emboldened by their 6x10 failure, Barchie and Jabitha talk about staging a “coup de town”.

Alice overhears them and tells Percival, who implements a curfew at sundown on the pretext of foggy weather.

Instead of moving their meeting re: the coup before sundown, our heroes decide to a) postpone it and b) ignore the curfew anyway. No comment.

Time Alert: it was not yet September when Hiram’s bomb exploded but as per Betty’s calendar it’s now January 15th. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, everybody!

Side note: I too use a huge-ass wall calendar in my office to mark down my period.

Now that he’s a deputy, I didn’t expect to see Kevin in RHS and yet there he is, at the teachers’ lounge, sans uniform, ready to drink some coffee. Either those RHS coffee machines make a mean cup of joe or Kevin’s still part-time teaching sex-ed at RHS.

Toni and Kevin have a face-off on the subject of Baby Anthony and what his parents’ lifestyle choices should be. It’s Riverdale, so said choices are: gang membership or compulsive cruising. Kevin is still not related to either the baby or the baby’s parents, so this debate is Moose. Sorry, moot.

Penelope is back! After she was banished from Thornhill, she travelled the world searching for sanctuary and eventually found herself in the Himalayas, at the original convent of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Unlike me, Madelaine Petsch is a professional actress who can sip her tea without spit-taking. Kudos.

Penelope is Penelope, therefore, instead of the Dalai Lama, in the Himalayas she found Jesus. She understands that, after all the gaslighting, her daughter’s skeptical, but she goes on with her plan. 1 riverdollar says she’s gaslighting Cheryl again.

Much like Martin Luther King’s assassination, Hiram’s bomb is a fixed point in time, which means that Jughead cannot get his hearing back through Tabitha changing the timeline. Not that it matters: he seems to be doing just fine after that ASL teacher inspired him to learn how to draw back in 6x7. Woke Stories.

Betty opens her front door to go to Archie’s house and sees someone lurking. He doesn’t emit a red aura but the head of Riverdale’s F.B.I. office and catcher of multiple serial killers is spooked. Therefore, she decides to use the back door. To go to Archie’s house. Which is … across from her own. Like … what’s the difference, Yale girl?

Barchie don’t have anything else to say after greeting each other, so they hop into bed for some sex. (Note: after rebuilding his house, Archie is still staying at his childhood room under the roof)

Barchie’s afterglow talk includes: questioning whether they’re dating or not and the fact that Betty’s late. Barchie’s baby talk must be the world’s most awkward segue to serial killer-induced trauma.

Archie mentions Fred, which I take to be Varchie foreshadowing: after all, partners who are obsessed with their daddykins together, get back together.

Meanwhile, back at Pop’s, Jabitha have defied Percival’s curfew by keeping the Diner open for no reason at all.

Tabitha is upset because Jughead, who now hears thoughts instead of sounds, read her mind. That’s an invasion of privacy! (Also, the only way the writers could think of introducing a new plot point: what is Tabitha hiding from Jughead??)

Fresh Stories™: The narrative of serial killers appreciating Betty’s Darkness™ returns.

Nothing spells romance like a good dismemberment story. Twenty-two episodes after the first mention of TBK back in 5x4, we finally learn what happened to Betty while she was held hostage by him. Apparently, he gave her an electric carving knife and told her to dismember a dead body, which is a bit disappointing: I expected him to give her the chainsaw. Baby steps, I guess.

Armed with a deadly weapon, F.B.I. trainee and all-around badass Betty Cooper, instead of going after TBK, dismembered the body. Ok.

Archie wonders why he’s in Riverdale. He must be getting even denser, as he says it’s because he wants to raise a family there. I, however, remember it’s because General Taylor sent him back to manage the RROTC program at RHS.

He assures Betty that he’s not going anywhere. We know this is true, because he told Veronica exactly the same thing in 5x18: like bad writing, Archie is never leaving Riverdale.

In the Babylonium there’s another couple that doesn’t care about Percival’s curfew: Veggie play strip poker in front of daddykins’ portrait and then have sex in one of the champagne suites. They proceed to have the only real adult conversation in the show ever since the time-jump and call it quits for fear of perpetuating their parents’ toxic dynamics. If Riverdale is good at one thing, that is spelling things out.

Back at Pop’s the 6-figure CEO from Chicago doesn’t have enough gas for the diner’s generator. While Jughead wonders around the parking lot with an empty tank, Tabitha listens to the phone call that saved Barchie from Hiram’s bomb on a ham radio, because … why not?

Everybody’s got candles but no one, NO ONE, like Cheryl Blossom. Penelope gives Cheryl the letters Heather, her junior high school belle, sent her. She admits she hated Cheryl because of internalized homophobia. This actually tracks: in Riverdale, all the fathers are douches and dead and all the mothers are douches and gay. Except from FP, who is a douche, alive and probably gay too.

At the Fogarty-Topaz residence, Fangs and Toni eat some tostitos. This also tracks: Doritos are for legends only. Man, I miss Hiram.

Fangs wants Baby Anthony to be raised the same way that he and Toni were. Which, I surmise, means, with a sick mother for whose medicine he’d have to pay by selling fizzle rocks (like Fangs) and a homophobic uncle who would lock him out of the trailer (like Toni). Oooookay.

You won’t effing believe it but Kevin and Moose are also violating Percival’s curfew by being at school after sundown. Kevin still works as a teacher at RHS after all. He says that the deputy stuff is a part-time job but the fact that he was unaware that Moose is the new PE teacher, makes me think it’s the other way around.

Fangs’ ex asks Fangs’ ex if he got back together with his ex. (That would be Fangs). They didn’t, so they decide to put the ‘ex’ in ‘sex’.

Meanwhile, Fangs is mad that Kevin hasn’t come by the house as promised. He wants to go out and find him but instead stays at home to make out with Toni.

Back at the Diner, Jabitha also make out share a hug.

While everyone -but Jabitha- had been fornicating, Percival made a coup of his own and became mayor of Riverdale. Thanks for giving him the idea in the first place, Archibald. If this isn’t the biggest incentive about contraception, I don’t know what is.

Tabitha says she has time-travelled 1.384 times. Off-screen, of course - the show’s budget is limited. No wonder Jabitha don’t have any sex. Girl must be exhausted!

She says they manage to beat Percival twice but Jughead always dies. Jughead, who has died and come back quite a few times, remains unbothered by the news. For good measure, he hugs Tabitha again.

Toffee was also on a ham radio contacting her accountant. Her candle making side hustle is doing really well and she’s searching for new investment opportunities.
