#hit queue till it breaks
Note
maybe I'm taking that "running is the ultimate sport. you fight against mind, body, and nature" post too seriously but considering running to be a fight against those things is how you wind up burnt out, physically broken, and hating running. running is a sport in which you tune in to mind, body, and nature to find and push your limits in each area without blowing past them. don't run against, run with.
run with your mind. run as meditation, run as a social activity, run as an act of joy. run when you don't want to, but you know you can and you know it'll make you feel better later. run less when you know you aren't up to it and it's making you feel worse.
run with your body. treat your body with love. eat plenty, hydrate, sleep enough, stretch, do strengthening exercises, warm up and cool down properly. check in with any aches and pains you may have. take the time to distinguish between normal soreness and the beginnings of an injury. don't wait till an injury is full-blown to to start resting and treating it— nip it in the bud to miss less time and minimize long-term impact. appreciate your body for all it does for you. tune in to your your body, pay attention to what it tells you, know it well. learn its limits. seek to expand those limits, not to run right past them and hurt yourself. rest when your body needs it.
run with nature. find a home in the coldest rain or deepest mud. feel the way that nature affects you, notice the sensations in your body. hydrate extra when it's hot, warm up extra when it's cold. let the hill test you and show you all the work you've done so far. let the beauty of your surroundings motivate you.
you can run fast while treating yourself with care and compassion. indeed, it's the only way to run fast for very long. happy, healthy runners are fast runners. don't break your body or your love for the sport <3
you're so right and I literally do not remember queueing that post at all. I must've just seen the word "running" and hit the reblog button. good catch I will delete

Christmas Eve.
It's always dialled up to eleven on the last day before Christmas. The speakers are only playing holiday music, you've got to wear the tacky sweater and your stress levels are indisputably at their highest.
This isn't your favourite time of year by any means.
Every chance you get, you eye what seems to be the only clock in the entire store. It rings an hour before closing time, and you've got to spend a further hour clearing everything away and shutting up shop before you can spend two blissful days in solitude.
The queue for the checkouts stretches as far as the eye can see. As you pass by to take a stack of baskets back to the entrance, you can't help but take a gander at everyone's trolleys, filled to the brim with their last minute buys. It truly makes you wonder why anyone would wait until the last second to get everything in for the holidays.
The journey is slow as people go back and forth across the aisles, trying their best to gather all the stuff they could possibly need and want. Your mind is ticking over, wishing and waiting for your shift to be done with so you can go home and eat.
The stack of baskets finally end up back in the holder, and you're immediately called away to jump back on tills.
An hour becomes forty-five minutes, to half an hour, to fifteen minutes, to shutters down.
The speakers are turned off and you glance at your co-workers with a heavy sigh. One of them remarks that it's another Christmas Eve over with!
You snort to yourself and say beneath your breath, "Ain't I glad for it."
You get to work wiping down the tills, making sure everything is tidied away, and helping a few other staff members replace leftover stock from customers who could not stomach the neverending queue. Soon enough, it's time for you to go home.
You had exchanged gifts with the rest of the staff throughout the week, and as you head to your car, you wish everyone a happy holiday and new year. They shout back with more energy than your sleep deprived self could manage, and you climb into your car before starting the engine and driving home.
You keep the radio off. You had heard enough Christmas music on this day alone.
Pulling into the tiny driveway of your house sometime later, you clamber out, collecting your bag of presents from your friends at work as well as your shoulder bag. Eventually, you get it all to the front door, and upon entering the code, you almost fall into your abode and haphazardly shut the door behind you.
The bags hit the floor. Your shoes are the first thing to come flying off, followed by your hat, coat and scarf. It had started snowing recently, though thankfully none had fallen so far tonight.
Stepping into your house, you take a deep breath in then turn on all the lights. You then decide to head to your bedroom and get changed into your pyjamas. Much better.
It's almost 10pm when you start preparing dinner. Nothing too fancy or elaborate, just a quick bite to eat before you inevitably get into bed and fall into the deepest sleep imaginable. Slumber had been slipping away for days, you know you'll be thankful for the first good night's sleep in ages.
The house is quiet and still, save for the sounds of the hood fan above your stove, the clacking of pots and pans, the faucet turning on and off as you wash your hands, and the timer on your phone letting you know your meal is done.
As you plate your dinner and toss the pans into the sink, the wind picks up outside. It howls at your kitchen window, startling you a little, before you notice drops of something fall in front of the nearby streetlight.
Immediately, you think it's snow, and a quick poke of the head outside your front door confirms that theory. You hum, then go back inside before your dinner gets cold.
You take the dish into the living room and place it on the table before taking a seat on the floor. Without a second to waste, you tuck in.
The wind gets stronger with each passing minute. You figure the snow could only be getting heavier. Perhaps it's cold enough for it to stick.
Thoughts pass absent-mindedly through your head as you eat. Gotta call parents in the morning. Make sure dinner is prepared. They're coming at around 2pm. I need to tidy up a bit before they get here too.
Finishing up your dinner, you get up to grab your phone from your bag. It lets you know it's just past 11pm and your eyes widen in surprise - has time really gone that fast?
As you re-enter the living room, you ensure you have an alarm set for 9am the following morning, then pick up your plate and take it into the kitchen.
The wind grows rather fierce outside, and the howling becomes.. eerie. A blizzard hails and you wonder when it's going to calm down, if it will at all.
You clear everything up and put everything back, then wipe the countertops down. It's an extra step before you can go to bed, but you know you'll be thankful for it in the morning. Once you switch off all the lights, you head into the bathroom and brush your teeth.
The baying wind causes a noticeable raucous outside as you splash your face with warm water and turn off the faucet. The nature of it is almost otherworldly and it brings you to a halt.
Never before have your hairs stood on head at the mere appearance of a gale force wind.
You pick up your towel to dry your face, now slightly perturbed at just how forceful these gusts are.
You won't lie, it's making you feel uneasy.
Setting the towel on the side, you hurry out the bathroom to switch on one of the floor lamps so you can feel comfortable turning off the bathroom light. You're not sure why the weather is making you feel like this, but the way it's picked up in the last hour is genuinely starting to scare you.
Your mouth is a few seconds ahead of your brain when you call out, "Hello?" You shake your head slightly, unsure of where that exclamation came from.
What, do you suppose there are ghosts here?
A chuckle escapes you - surely not. It is just an incredibly powerful wind, coupled with snow. This has happened hundreds of times before, this is nothing new!
Exhaling, you turn off the bathroom light, turn off the floor lamp, then go into your bedroom. The clock reads just shy of midnight.
For some reason, this makes you pause.
A lump forms in your throat that you promptly swallow. Nothing to fear, you think, and get into bed with the promise of a wonderful night's rest.
You close your eyes, knowing you'll be off to sleep in no time..
Thud.
You jolt upright.
"What the fuck?"
You heart picks up speed. You place a hand on your chest as you try and take the deepest breaths possible.
Your shaky hand reaches out to turn on the bedside lamp. Slowly, you pull back the duvet and get out of bed, grabbing your phone in the process and switching on the torch.
Inch by inch, you trudge out of the bedroom and head in the direction of the kitchen, where you assume the noise came from. It sounded like a clattering of pans.. you don't even know what would've caused it.
But more than that, you are chilled to the bone to discover you can.. fucking hear voices?
Coming to a stop in the middle of the hallway, every sense is on high alert as you point your torch to the floor. What the fuck is going on, and who the fuck is in my house?
Assuredly not what you were expecting in the early hours of Christmas morning.
Nobody had entered the house as you were getting ready for bed. There was no break-in, no disturbances other than the loud wind, and certainly no sign that someone had managed to find another way to enter.
This is truly something else.
And what gets to you more than anything, is that as you start treading carefully towards the kitchen again, the voices become more distinctive.. and there's three of them.
.
.
Usually, a more graceful entrance through the chimney would be in order.
But where no chimney exists, the next best option is.. the oven.
"Damn it!"
"Good one, Joshua.."
"Don't look at me, Jeonghan. I'm not the one who decides to get thrown down- or I guess in this case out- first." Joshua picks himself up off the ground and dusts down his jacket. Jeonghan follows suit, then moves to brush off Joshua's shoulders before getting shooed away. "And Seungcheol's going to get a lovely entrance, I bet.."
Much to their shock - and joy - Seungcheol flies through the open oven door and lands with a thud against the kitchen island opposite.
Jeonghan and Joshua both guffaw as the latter closes the oven. "Ah, I'm almost glad I spoke too soon."
"Bastard," mutters Seungcheol beneath his breath, rubbing his head as he scrambles to his feet. "Could've helped me.."
Both Jeonghan and Joshua - whom Seungcheol unabashedly nicknames The Bothersome Brothers - look at one another then turn to Seungcheol in mock sympathy. For dramatic effect, Jeonghan gently covers his mouth with his hand as Joshua shakes his head in shame.
"Oh.. we are so sorry, forgive us, dear elder.." Jeonghan drones, hand now on his chest to feign sadness.
Seungcheol fixes them a less-than-pleased glare and rolls one shoulder back at a time to relieve some tension. "I will roast you both."
The pair fake a gasp simultaneously. "The horror!" says Joshua.
"Couldn't imagine!" follows Jeonghan, back of hand on his forehead.
"Alright, enough you two. We need to figure out where we are and who we're assisting."
The two drop the act and instantly shift into gear. "Well.." begins Joshua, putting his hands behind his back and taking a walk through the kitchen, "we're in a house.."
Jeonghan snorts. Seungcheol does not have the patience for this.
"Seriously?"
"What?" Joshua exclaims; Seungcheol's raised brow says it all. "..Fine." Out of thin air, he retrieves a large, ancient book that he opens to about the halfway point. He recites the information within back to the other men. "LN.FN. Late 20s-early 30s. Retail worker. Reason for hating the holidays.."
Shriek.
.
.
When you wander into your kitchen, you let out an earth-shattering scream.
You abruptly reach for the nearest light switch and turn it on, revealing three men standing in front of your oven, one of them fumbling to hold onto a giant book as it nearly slips out of his hands.
The flashlight on your phone gets shut off. You stare blankly at the trio, unable to fathom just why they are currently standing in your kitchen.
"Who the hell are you? What are you doing in my house?" you yell, hoping to God this is either a very realistic nightmare, or that if it is real, one of your neighbours understands there are currently three intruders in your home so they can come and help you.
The man furthest to the right takes a step forward. They are all noticeably just as freaked out as you, and it befuddles you since, you know, they are the ones in your house.
"Our sincerest apologies.." He says it so intently and it's disquieting. "We did not mean to frighten you."
The man in the centre continues, "Please.. forgive the intrusion of us three festive spectres.."
The man holding the book completes the sentence, "You must be N." He smiles, and now you have to try and wrap your head around the fact that he just said your name. "It is very nice to meet you."
You are at a complete loss for words. Everything goes still as you try and make sense of all of this.
You try again with asking questions. "..Please tell me who you are and where you came from." The words leave you in a controlled yet urgent tone.
"Bizarrely, of the two queries, the latter will be the more difficult to understand.." remarks the man in the centre.
What in the- "What in the name is that supposed to mean?" you ask.
Bookkeeper answers, "What he's trying to say is that our method of arrival was both unconventional and incomprehensible."
Your head is spinning irrevocably. The walls feel like they are closing in. Everything about this is wrong and you just want to wake up from whatever sordid dream this is.
"Okay.." You try again, this time with a shaky voice. "I am going to politely ask you- in fact, no, I am going to demand that you leave my house this instant or I will call the police!" Your voice quickly reaches its peak volume and the trio are taken aback.
The first man to speak to you tries to de-escalate the situation. "We can explain why we're here!"
"And how!" says the man in the middle.
Good God, is this nightmare over already?
At that moment, the three men form a line. One by one, they introduce themselves.
"My name is Seungcheol. I am the Ghost of Christmas Past."
"My name is Jeonghan, I am the Ghost of Christmas Present."
"My name is Joshua, I am the Ghost of Christmas Future."
They bow in unison.
You laugh.
They glance at one another as they lift their heads, then look over at you. Both arms are tucked across your stomach and you are fully bellowing out laughter.
Their backs straighten. Joshua tucks the book under his arm. The three exchange another glance before they turn back to you.
Once you have finally calmed down and wiped a stray tear, you come back to the room and say, "Holy shit, that is the funniest thing I've heard all year."
Jeonghan goes to speak, "Um- we're- we're afraid that it's-"
You continue chuckling, effectively interrupting him. "That is quite the cover story."
"Beg your pardon?" Joshua cocks a brow.
"All fun and games, huh? Thought you'd get a last minute steal in, and if I found you, you'd pose as the three ghosts of Christmas from the Dickens novel." A snort involuntarily escapes you at the ridiculousness of it all.
The trio perk up at that. Jeonghan mutters to them, "That author's name again!"
Seungcheol gazes at you. "Um, excuse me? Did you mention.. Dickens?"
You stop. "Yes? His famous novel, A Christmas Carol has three ghosts that show up in it: Christmas past, present and future.." Their bemused facial expressions are not lost on you. "Surely you.. must have heard of it if you're referencing the characters and literally introducing yourselves as them." You are still in disbelief over that.
"Well," Joshua begins, "to be honest, we've only heard of the novel through other visits we've done.."
"Yes, literally everyone we have interacted with has brought that story up in connection to us but we have no knowledge of it!" Jeonghan explains.
"Some have even gone as far as to say we are actually from that novel and we've come to life!" says Seungcheol.
Frozen solid to the spot you're standing on, you take a good look at three men in front of you. They are all wearing similar attire of a vintage persuasion: suits under long trenchcoats with slacks. Their hair is styled in a way reminiscent of the 40s.
This is baffling to say the least.
Festive spectres..
"Jeonghan, is it?"
Jeonghan eyes you. "Yes?"
"You mentioned you were.. festive spectres.. Is-" You cannot comprehend the fact you're going to inquire about this. "Is that.. legit?"
Jeonghan smiles. "Undoubtedly. And if you want to know the answer to your other query.. We entered through your oven."
Your jaw drops.
That's enough.
"Okay!" You enter the kitchen and go to stand behind them so you can escort them out of the house. "Thank you very much for your company, but-"
As soon as your hand brushes Joshua's shoulder, you squeal and step back.
He is frightfully cold.
The men pivot and see you standing on the other side of the kitchen, back pressed against the sink with one hand covering the other.
"Oh!" Seungcheol understands. "Yes, we are.. quite chilly." The other two catch on and nod in agreement.
Your pupils grow three sizes. "Quite chilly?" you scoff. "You're a damn glacier, fuck.."
"Again, apologies," Seungcheol quietly laughs. "Comes with the territory."
You can do nothing but stare at them; this all well beyond you at this rate.
Joshua opens the book again to the same place as before. "Your name is N.. Late 20s-early 30s.."
"Hang on a minute!" You point a finger. "How the hell do you have that information?"
"Oh! When we are assigned folks to visit during the early morn of Christmas day, we're given a basic information log on who they are and their reasons for disliking the holiday season," says Joshua with a grin on his face.
That last part throws you off. "My.. reasons for disliking Christmas?"
"Yes! A few are listed here actually.. The music, working in a retail store, putting up with distant relatives, commercialisation, consumerism, etc, etc.."
The list is all accurate, but something stings in the back of your mind. You ignore it. For now.
"Right and as the self-proclaimed ghosts of Christmas whenever, you're here to try and make me less of a Grinch?"
"Grinch..?" Joshua furrows his brow in confusion.
"We had a few people mention The Grinch, remember?" says Jeonghan, trying to poke at Joshua's memory. "He's a cartoon of a character who hates Christmas so much he tries to steal it."
"And eventually his heart grows three sizes and he learns to love the holiday and be more cheerful," you finish explaining. Now your head is spinning much faster.
It eventually registers with Joshua, "Ah! Yes, I do remember that story now. Not mentioned as frequently as the other one."
"I mean.. no surprise there, you are literally telling people you're three of the characters from that story." You rub your forehead in exasperation. Quite frankly, you're tired, stressed and just want to go back to bed.
"So, I think with all that settled, we should get to the bottom of what really upsets you about the holidays," announces Seungcheol.
Your eyes split open. Huh?
"Excuse you?"
"The real reason for your hurt at this time of year," Jeonghan informs.
"Yeah, I got that part, but the fuck?"
You are yet to find a good explanation for anything occurring right now and these three "ghosts" want to unpack all the problems?
It is still unclear if they are even telling the truth!
Joshua closes the book and sighs. "I listed many reasons, all of which are perfectly valid and understandable, but there's something much deeper."
"It has been troubling you since well.. last year," laments Jeonghan.
"And only when you confront it, can you learn to move forward," Seungcheol affirms.
Your legs nearly turn to jelly and you have to prop yourself up on the side of the sink just to remain steady.
The something much deeper?
The thing troubling you?
The thing you must confront?
You have to turn away from them.
Staring out of the window, all the memories come flooding back.
You had spent three Christmases together.
Everything was going so well. You had considered moving in together up until late last year.
That was when things got worse.
You grew ever so distant in the weeks leading up to Christmas. It was to be your fourth together and yet, by the time December rolled around, you both decided it was best if you broke it off.
No closure. No final words. No cards or gifts or well wishes from either of you.
Truly a lonely holiday.
You had of course spent it surrounded by family, but after almost four years together, it hurt to have an empty seat beside you at the dinner table.
Even waltzing around your own house reminded you of everything you shared. You'd often stay the night at each other's places.
Now it was your second Christmas apart, and despite all the time that has passed, it could still bring you to tears just thinking about it.
You often wonder what he's doing. If he ever thinks of you. It crosses your mind that he clearly hasn't, otherwise he'd pick up the phone, but the hypocrisy would be so loud, and it never stopped you from thinking about him.
With a heavy weight on your shoulders, you take a deep breath in. It occurs to you that the three ghosts have been standing behind you this entire time, and you brush a tear away before turning around.
"Sorry.." you whisper. To them? To him? To yourself? You don't know.
"It is more than okay. We are only here to help," says Seungcheol, gently.
"And if you'd like us to, we can guide you through these three different times," follows Jeonghan. "But it is up to you."
"If you wish us to leave, we shall," Joshua vows on behalf of all three of them.
Something uncanny twists in your stomach. You are unsure of when or how the atmosphere shifted but, you find yourself unable to do much else but choke a sob. They watch on sympathetically, unable to conceal their sorrow.
"How do I- kn-know that you're really those ghosts?" you sniff.
"Well, aside from the temperature, does this help you?" wonders Joshua, before he levitates the book above his palm before throwing it into the air, causing it to vanish.
You blink. "W-Wow.."
"And perhaps.." Seungcheol backtracks out of the kitchen, subtly guiding you towards the standing mirror in the hallway. You follow, and once you're standing in front of the glass, it reveals zero reflection of the man beside you.
"Oh, shit-" You can't see, but Seungcheol smirks behind you. You lift a hand to the mirror and gulp. "Okay.. So.. How would you plan on guiding me through these times?"
"I answer your question with another: who do you see before you?"
".. Not you," you joke. The trio chuckle. "But, seriously.. myself, of course."
"Yourself, when?"
"Now. Today."
"And what year is it currently?"
"..2023."
"Correct. Now.." Seungcheol lifts an arm, then moves his hand in a circle motion, causing a spiralling ripple effect on the mirror.
Your mouth gapes open and a gasp escapes. This is insane, how is this even real?
Seungcheol eventually lowers his arm. "..What do you see?"
The picture clears. You say what you see. "Christmas lights.. That's the front of my house! It's snowing.. There's someone laughing-"
The words get caught in your throat.
Wonwoo.
Your ex.
"That's.." You struggle to say his name. It's like you haven't said it in years. "..Wonwoo."
The name tastes of salt on your tongue. Or maybe that's the tears that have since started shedding with reckless abandon.
"Your ex-boyfriend, correct?"
You swallow thickly. "Y-Yes.."
The picture starts to change. It becomes so much darker. The tone is shifting. It was only a vignette of the past and yet you wish you could hold onto it for dear life.
The world becomes foggy. The words are mumbled and the voices are not defined. You shudder in your own living room, wiping your cheeks free of tears.
Seungcheol stands before you and holds his hand out.
"I stood you before the mirror, as while it does give you your reflection at present, it can also reflect so much of what has been left in the past. It acts as a window to everything that has transpired to make you who you are."
You look at him, then the mirror, then back at him.
"Take my hand, if you wish to revisit the past."
Pushing your shoulders back, you take a moment to consider whether this is a good idea.
In seconds, your hand ends up in his.
He guides you through the mirror, and as the door closes, your living room is shrouded in darkness.
Jeonghan nudges Joshua, "Admirable."
Joshua nods. "I do hope this brings them some much needed closure."

One of the worst thing about driving is the fact that nobody else follows the rules.
So you have been witnessing driving all your life and you think you know how it works.
Wrong! Turns out everyone you have ever witnessed drive has a very squiffed view of the rules. Can you park here? No. Is that going to stop anyone from doing it? Also no. But if I park there? Fail on the test.
Also everyone's in a rush to get somewhere. You see a red light up ahead and you know it takes a while to turn green so you slow down so you don't have to fully stop the car and do a hill start and then 3 assholes in a rush fly out from behind you, cut in, meaning your instructor is now grabbing the steering, you're slamming on the breaks trying not to stall the car. They hit the red light queue up ahead and you arrive behind them and sit there for 5 minutes.
Luckily I am very good at hill starts. But still, what the fuck possesses people when they see a learner driver? Pootling along at maybe 3 under the speed limit and people come flying around you at 10 over. You approach a junction and people see you're a learner and just GO WITHOUT STOPPING AT ALL.
"So, Dibbzy, why did it take you till your 30's to start learning to drive?"
"well you see, the road is full of over confident assholes who think the 3 minutes they will save by ramming me off the road is worth my life."

Video Games I played in 2023 (and maybe even enjoyed)
A completely unorganized list of games I played this year that I wanted to talk about because they were great.
Tumblr media
1. Ultrakill - My biggest time sink of the year. Found out about this game about a year ago due to FUNKe talking about it a lot. Was hooked from the first level, and after beating it I replayed several levels until I mastered the mechanics, then looked for all the secret levels, then P-ranked all of Act 1 and then the P-1 boss fight several times over (Act 2 is hard to P-rank). However enjoyment did kinda dry up for a bit after I actually got good at the game but then Hakita dropped the first part of act 3 a while ago and it started all over again. Here's hoping the last 2 chapters stick the landing and keep scratching that itch (which they probably will let's be honest)
Tumblr media
2. Metal Gear Solid series - Played all of the games aside from 4 which couldn't run on my PC (had to watch a long play for it) and Peace Walker just cause I got distracted by other stuff. The first game didn't really resonate with me on a deeper level but its storytelling, gameplay mechanics, and 4th wall breaks are amazing, especially for the time. 2 and 3 hit far harder and are some of the best games I've ever played. I could talk for hours about every facet of 2's creativity with its meta narrative and constant questioning of reality but then I wouldn't have time to talk about other games here. Just know that it is now my favorite game ever made. 3, while not quite as crazy and predictive with its plot, is just a really good story about a small group of characters that is incredibly written and told. I also really enjoyed 5's gameplay and a lot of the more subtle storytelling, and while 4 has an utterly incomprehensible plot with tons of holes, the character writing, voice acting, and graphics are phenomenal. I want whatever Kojima smokes when he comes up with these.
Tumblr media
3. Red Dead Online - I played this with my brother and encountered a modder on my first day. Think that really informed my take on this game because he gave me a shit ton of money and I was able to use it to get a bounty license which took up most of my time in that game. We'd just queue up a bounty mission and play some Oingo Boingo and Talking Heads while we ride, do the bounty, then watch random videos while we waited till the last minute to drop off the bounty bc of how Rockstar decided to set up the system. We also met a couple people online and overall just had a great experience bein a rootin tootin shootin cowboy. Also my guy looks doofy as fuck.
Tumblr media
4. The Artful Escape - Impulse bought this game after I watched a vid by Jexonite where he played every game published by Annapurna because the premise seemed fun and I thought it looked cool. Turns out the game does look cool, incredible even. But the art style is kind of all this game has going for it, aside from some solid voice actors (Jason Schwartzman and Lena Headey were cool and Mark Strong was completely unrecognizable). Gameplay is basically just a walking sim that occasionally tells you to press buttons to play notes on your guitar and the story took a pretty generic turn. Has absolutely zero replay value but I did enjoy playing it.
Tumblr media
5. BPM - The first roguelike I've ever gotten into, probably because it has a guns in it. I got all the way up to the last level then died to a low level enemy and have not gotten that far in the game since. The OST goes insanely hard though and is part of the reason why I keep coming back to it. It's also insanely addicting so be warned.
Tumblr media
6. Hotline Miami - Probably holds the record for the game that pissed me off the most this year. An insanely fun and fast paced shooter game where your reaction timing is everything and that every nerd with a YouTube channel has already picked apart. Even though some of the AI is complete jank it is so satisfying clearing rooms in this game. The art style is also quite good and the soundtrack introduced me to a ton of new artists. Also is a strong case for environmental storytelling needing to be more prevalent in games. I can figure out what's going on I'm a smart guy.
Tumblr media
7. Katana Zero - A very Hotline Miami inspired game aka a game with a pixelated art style and a synthwave soundtrack where the goal is to clear rooms and you die in one hit. I feel a bit more mixed about this game compared to Hotline honestly. I really liked the time slowing mechanic, the mobility, and the way you can reflect bullets with your sword. I also like how the enemy AI actually stays consistent through each run of the level, whereas with Hotline there were some enemies who could move erratically and fuck everything up even if you plan a solid route. However, I think because of how the story was told I don't think it had as much of an impact on me. I can't really remember a lot of the important details but I can remember that a lot of plot threads were left unresolved. Also, while I do like the combat a lot, I feel like it's missing the sandbox approach that Hotline had. Honestly not a game I would necessarily come back to, but if the dev made a sequel I would buy it (especially if we get to play as Dragon more he was cool as fuck). I'll also give the game props for actually having an OST unlike Hotline.

8. Undertale - What could I say about this game that hasn't already been said by the entire population of South Dakota? It is very fun and I am glad I finally took the plunge and played it. Now I just have to finish the other routes at some point lol
Tumblr media
9. Lethal Company - I played this game with multiple friend groups and it was incredibly fun but also terrifying. If you haven't played yet, the best advice I can give is to just go in completely blind and figure shit out on your own. Also, try to actually go into the buildings instead of staying in the ship like a goo goo ga ga dingus.
Other stuff I played worth mentioning (Smaller stuff or games I revisited/haven't finished a full playthrough of):
Tumblr media
1. A Hat in Time DLC - Played the original game late last year and loved it, but didn't get the DLC so I didn't play it for some time. Played it this year and had a blast. The Nyakuza Metro level is so detailed, you can really tell the devs poured their heart and soul into making this game look as great as it does. Made me rediscover my love for the base game.
Tumblr media
2. Titanfall 2 - Not my first time playing it but replayed the single player on PC for the first time (played on Xbox before) and realized the characters and level design were way better than I remembered. I then started pestering everyone I knew to play it and the ones who did seem to like it too. I also popped off multiple times in the multiplayer so it was nice to have a multiplayer game that I'm good at.
Tumblr media
3. The Magic Circle - Played for a few hours and then stopped, but the premise is quite fun and I am eager to revisit at some point in the future.
Tumblr media
4. The Looker - This one was just funny idrk what else to say. (I have not played The Witness)

Tumblr media
‘Ahoy Ladies are you ready to set sail on this adventure of flavour with me, I’ll be your captain. I’m Steve Harrington,’ Steve said before turning around and stopping in his tracks when he saw you and a couple of your friends standing in front of him.
‘I’ll go on an adventure with you any day, Harrington,’ you said, smirking as you watched him in his attempt to keep his cool at your words. You knew that Steve had pretty much been stripped of his King Steve persona when Nancy had broken up with him but you still thought he was hot. You carried on flirting with him because you loved how flustered he would get, knowing that he had always carried a bit of a torch for you.
‘Oh yeah? What kind of adventure are you looking for, (Y/L/N)?’ he asked, knowing now that you loved to push his buttons which made it easier for him to play along.
‘I don’t know, I’ve never been fucked behind the scenes of an ice cream parlour,’ you said bluntly, leaning over the counter, giving Steve the perfect view of your cleavage. Your friends had long gone to find a seat, knowing that you were going to take your time teasing the former King of Hawkins.
‘Shocking,’ Steve replied, leaning on the counter as well so your lips were inches apart, ‘someone with your reputation, I would have thought that you’d have fucked everywhere.’ It was no secret that you had a reputation around Hawkins for the amount of sexual partners you’d had and Steve couldn’t help but want to be able to add his own name to your list.
‘I could say the same about you.’ You and Steve had had this kind of back and forth for the last couple of times you’d tried to hit on him with the sole intention of ruffling his feathers but it had gotten to a stage where you couldn’t help but look forward to these interactions now. ‘But then, you hung up your crown before you could have any real fun.’
Steve stood back up, clearing his throat slightly as he remembered that he was actually at work where he could be fired if his boss caught him flirting with you without realising the size of the queue that had formed behind you. ‘So are you going to order anything or are you just going to hold up the queue for the rest of the day?’ he asked, trying his best to sound as normal as he could.
You stood up yourself, feeling Steve’s gaze on you for the whole time. ‘Not like you to give up so easily,’ you said as you pushed your hair behind your shoulder and made your order.
‘I don’t have time at the moment, I’ve gotta work,’ Steve replied as he put your order through on the till, ‘that’ll be three dollars,’ he said, staring straight into your eyes. You dug through your bag until you found your purse and pulled three dollar bills, handing them over. As Steve reached out to take the money from you, his hand closed around yours and he pulled you closer to him from across the counter. ‘Plus I never said I was giving up. I have a break in an hour, meet me back here and we can tick ice cream parlour off of your list of places to fuck.’
As soon as he spoke, you felt a warmth between your legs and it took all of your concentration to keep a straight face and not melt into a puddle then and there. You nodded as you took your ice cream from him and turned around to make your way over to the table your friends had picked. Steve watched you the whole time, knowing that two could play at your little game.

FILM PROJECT: SCENE TWO; THE LOCATION
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“BUT FOR NOW… I AM THE WILLING VICTIM OF A CANNIBAL. SHE RIPS OUT MY BONES JUST LIKE IM AN ANIMAL.” - Cannibal; Tally Hall
Tumblr media
“So what do I get out of this?”
“What do you mean?” Kyle asked them as he took the duffle bag of expensive camera equipment from Jae.
“I meannn, this seems like a deal for only Ona. And as much as I want that girl to get her grades up…” Jae looked around to see if the said girl was listening, she always had a knack for hearing her name being mentioned.
“Yeah I understand, so how much do you want?” Kyle said with a small chuckle as he pulled out his wallet, the inside had a Polaroid picture of his family.
“Join our podcast.”
“Excuse me?”
“Come onn” Jae lightly punched his shoulder as she went back to crossing their arms. “Join Team Realest.”
“..Team..Realest?”
“Yeah dude! Come on, after tonight, you’re definitely gonna want to join.” Jae teased as the two made it to the front of the car.
“Hmm.. I’ll think about it, I’ll let you know after tonight then.” Kyle opened the passenger door for Jae before he walked around to the drivers seat to get situated.
“Sooo where are we going?” Ona asked from the backseat, she gave a sharp turn in her neck pillow to look at Jae infront of her.
“Do you really need that?”
“Yes, Jae,” Ona scoffs, “I really do need this.”
“Okayy…..”
Stan pipes up, breaking the two’s small argument, “I think we should drive around till we see a place that speaks to us. You know?”
Kyle drums his fingers along the steering wheel, “Okay, that sounds good, but what if we don’t find a place that we like?”
“Then we go further out and away from the city, duh.” Ona says.
Kenny speaks up, voice clearly riddled with sleep, “We don’t have to find a place today either… we have quite a while before we need to turn this project in.”
“Oh my god Kenneth do you ever like to WORK??” Ona asks, mock annoyance in her tone.
“It depends… is the work fun? Or is the work forced upon me by the vicious Gods that roam our skies, seeking havoc and causing pain through out the human population?”
“Dude what the fuck?” Stan looks over at Kenny confused and Kenny just shrugs in return.
Kyle sighs, putting his car in drive, “Let’s go then, no time like the present.”
“…..Can I play music..” Jae asks.
“Huh, oh yeah go ahead.” Kyle responds.
“Sweet, any recs for the time being?”
“Give Me Everything by Pitbull and Ne-yo.” Kenny requests.
“Oh my god.. of course you’d ask for something like that.” Ona rolls her eyes and shakes her head at Kenny’s request.
Stan snickers beside her and Kenny looks at her bewildered, “The fuck does that even mean?”
“You know what it means.”
Jae sighs and queues up the song Kenny wanted, before queuing up a random car ride playlist to have play afterwards.
Tumblr media
"Hey, do you guys want to stop at this Mc Donald's up here?" Kyle mumbled, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. His voice was barely audible over the soft hum of the car engine, but everyone heard his question loud and clear.
It had been about two hours since they had set off on their trip, and the sky had gradually grown darker as the October evening set in. The crisp autumn air seeped in through the car windows, making the journey all the more eerie and foreboding.
Ona's ears perked up at the suggestion, and she sat up straight in her seat. "Yes, please!" she exclaimed, feeling relieved at the prospect of stretching her legs and getting some fresh air.
Jae chuckled softly, nodding in agreement. "Sounds good to me," they said, her eyes darting to look at the three in the back to catch a glimpse of Stan’s reaction.
Stan shrugged, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Sure, why not?" he said, his eyes meeting Ona's briefly before turning back to his game.
“Dont forget to wake Kenny” Kyle reminds the two in the back seat as he pulled into a parking spot.
Ona took off her neck pillow and hits the blonde boy with it repeatedly, “Wake up Kennethhhh!.”
“The full name is insane Di’ona.” Jae smiled before she took off the seatbelt.
Kenny groans, annoyed that he woke up to being hit by the neck pillow and stretches, purposefully covering Ona's face with his hand, "Good morninggg everyone."
"Get. Your. NASTY. hand out of my FACE!" Ona exclaims, roughly grabbing his wrist and pushing Kenny's hand off her face.
Stan can't stop himself from laughing and quickly unbuckles his seatbelt to get out of the car before Ona directs any of her wrath towards him.
Everyone else soon follows and gets out of the car and once everyone is out, the five of them start heading into the McDonald's, Kyle locking the car as they walk across the parking lot.
Tumblr media
"Soooo.. where did we end up?" Kenny asks the group, munching on a fry.
"Gross dude, don't eat with your mouth open." Kyle grimaces, disgust clouding his face.
Jae turns on her phone, "Hmm.. According to Apple Maps we are in Woodland Park."
"Oh sick dude, There's an abandoned mill south of us.. if I'm remembering the town right." Kenny grins, shoveling another handful of fries in his mouth.
"Oh my god, you are so gross." Ona frowns.
"Since when did you know of an abandoned mill, Ken?" Stan asks, taking a sip of his drink.
"It's because of Butters, apparently Butters knows a lot about hidden things, abandoned places or whatever. He gave me a list and I've been slowly checking them off as I go explore 'em."
Kyle stares pointedly at Kenny, "And you didn't think to tell us about the list prior to leaving..?"
Kenny shrugs, "I was assuming you guys would've found a place sooner in all honesty. This place I'm referring too is far out and the others that I have been to are too rundown to probably film anything without us potentially.. dying."
Kyle sighs, "We're already this far we might as well stop over and check it out."
Ona steals a nugget from Jae, "HEY-" They start but Ona cuts them off before anything else was said, "How far away is it from here?"
"Jae, can I?" Kenny asks, referring to the Apple Maps she still had pulled up.
"Oh yeah, here." Jae hands their phone to Kenny and he types in the coordinates.
"You memorized the coordinates?" Stan questions.
"Uh.. yeah dude.. I would've just ended up losing the list had I not memorized it."
"If only you put that much effort into memorizing your class lectures.." Kyle shakes his head.
Kenny flips off Kyle, "It's about 35 minutes from us right now," He says, handing the phone back to Jae, "Think we can make it?"
"If we left now, yeah." Kyle responds.
"Good thing it's the weekend then." Jae sighs, the rest of the group murmuring in agreement.
They finish their meal and all head back to the car, driving away and towards the location Kenny had set for them.
Tumblr media
"Is.. this the right place?" Stan asks apprehensively, peering out the window and at the mill.
"Is this not a mill?" Jae points out.
"Well yeah, but it looks... I don't know not mill like?"
Kyle parks the car and turns off the car, "Uh? What's the qualifications for 'mill-like'?" Kyle asks, turning around in his seat to stare at Stan.
"What's the qualifications for mill-like, I am Kyle Broflovski and I use big words!" Ona mocks, voice no where near how he speaks.
"That is not at all how I sound like."
"Yeah huh it is."
Kyle groans and turns back around in his seat, opening the car door and getting out.
Kenny whispers to Ona, "He can't handle the truth."
Ona nods her head, "He's got no sense of humor. None at all.. shame."
Everyone else gets out of the car and looks over at the mill, "It looks a lot bigger now that we're really staring at it." Jae concluded, turning on her phone's flashlight to be able to see where they'd be walking.
The rest of the group turns their phone's flashlights on as well, "Yeah.. it looks like it'd be haunted." Ona whispers, chills running through out her body.
Kyle rolls his eyes, "You guys and this whole ghost paranormal schtick. It's not haunted, it's literally just a regular abandoned mill."
"Famous last words Kyle, famous last words." Kenny says, moving past Jae and heading over to the mill.
Stan opens the trunk and grabs the equipment, "Let's just go ahead and check it out, besides if we get no filming done, we might as well figure out where we could start shooting. Or if we even like this place well enough to film."
Kyle runs a hand along his face, "We should also get to Kenny asap.. who knows what he'll end up doing alone."
Kyle and Jae head off next after Kenny, being careful to not stumble or fall along the rocky ground.
Ona turns to look at Stan, "Need any help with any of that then?"
Stan grins, "Nah, just as long as you stay by me and can guide me properly, I think I'll be alright."
The girl stared blankly at him, then gave the smallest smile “Cool..cool, yeah uh okay.”
Snorting, Stan closed the trunk “So are you excited? I know this is your element or.. whatever.”
“Yeah, honestly, I just wanna see you be professional for once” Stan smiled at Ona while she stood back up and put a headlight on his messy hair, she stood back and looked at him in the eyes
“Dude you don't even understand!, it’s been a hot minute since me and Jae investigated something alone without cameras watching you know?”
The boy hummed in agreement as he watched Ona put on the body, camera and headlight “Are you excited? This is your first time right?” She asked squatting down to check the rest of the bag.
“Excited, yes. Nervous? Also yes, who knows what tonight’s all gonna bring us.”
Tumblr media
Jae shook their head in annoyance as they walked through the dark, abandoned street. "So, is this the usual for uh...Kenny?" she asked, referring to their now mutual friend's tendency to disappear without any explanation.
"Walking away with no context? Yep," Kyle replied, looking back at Jae.
He couldn't help but feel a sense of unease wash over him as he thought about how they ended up walking through this eerie, desolate area . "We really should've gotten the better flashlights before running off," he added, his voice tinged with regret.
Jae agreed, their eyes fixed on the ground as they carefully navigated the rocky terrain. "Definitely," she said, their voice barely above a whisper. "So, how long have you known Kenny and Stan?" they asked, trying to break the silence that had settled between them.
Kyle sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Our whole lives," he replied, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
"We used to spend our summers riding bikes and playing video games together. It feels like a lifetime ago now," he added.
Jae listened intently, their heart swelling with emotion at the thought of lifelong friendships. "That sounds amazing,"
Kyle chuckled, the sound echoing through the empty area. "It has its ups and downs, that's for sure," he said, his eyes crinkling at the edges as he smiled.
"But at the end of the day, there's nothing quite like having people in your life who know you inside and out."
The thick, eerie air of the abandoned mill seemed to engulf the duo as they searched for their friend. Suddenly, Kenny's voice shattered the heartfelt moment, causing both of them to jump in surprise.
"You guys! Come look at this!" Kenny's voice called out, but his face was nowhere to be seen.
Jae and Kyle looked at each other in confusion, wondering where Kenny could be hiding. "Kenny?" Jae shouted, hoping for a response.
But there was no answer, only a deafening silence that made the hair on the back of their necks stand on end. "Come look at what? Where are you?" Kyle asked.
Again, there was no reply, and the silence grew even more suffocating. "Kenny, where are you, dude? I don't feel like running around a creepy ass mill," Kyle sighed, his flashlight shaking as he scanned the area for any sign of his friend.
The old mill was silent, dead silent, with no rustling of the trees or sound of the wind. It was just Jae's and Kyle's footsteps crunching on the gravel as they moved forward cautiously.
"This isn't funny anymore, Kenny," Jae spoke up
“What’s not funny anymore?” The words hung in the air as the two turned around to look at the girl who had uttered them. Ona’s face was illuminated by the sudden flash of light on her and Stan’s head, making her features appear eerie and ominous.
“Oh my god Ona, you scared the shit out of us,” Jae exclaimed, placing a hand on her chest. “Why didn’t you tell us you were behind us?” She finished as she reached for the flashlight Stan offered themself and Kyle.
Ona shrugged nonchalantly, exchanging a quick glance with Stan before looking back at Jae. “Have you found a spot to record yet?” she asked, scanning the surroundings of the rundown mill.
“Um…” Jae started, looking at Kyle who, in turn, looked at Jae.
“Um…???” Ona repeated impatiently.
“We were going to… you know, we were trying to catch up to Kenny!” Kyle explained, his voice rising in pitch.
“Yeah…”
“But, you know…” Kyle trailed off, his voice lowered.
“I know what?” Ona asked, her arms crossed in front of her.
“We can’t find Kenny,” Jae said with a heavy sigh, her tone laced with dread.
“What do you mean you can’t find Kenny?” Stan frowns, quickly scanning the area around the group for any sign of Kenny.
“We mean that he’s run off and he isn’t responding to when we call out for him.” Kyle finishes explaining.
Silence befalls the four as Stan and Ona digest the words Kyle and Jae have said, about how Kenny is gone and they haven’t been able to find him. The dust settling around them is illuminated by the flashlights held by the group; the broken tables and chairs, the rundown and rusty machinery, all looking a lot more foreboding as the group stands in complete silence.
Before anyone speaks up next, Kenny’s voice is heard once more in the distance, “Guys? Come on! This way! I found a cool place for us to film!”
The group exchanges glances before heading after Kenny’s voice, “Kenny! Stay there for God’s sake,” Stan calls out.
As the group enters the room Kenny is standing in, they look around in awe at the size of it. From the looks of it, it was probably where most of the bigger machines were, however they have all either been torn down or broken, rusted away in a corner somewhere. High windows near the ceiling on the wall, concrete walls and floor, steel beams surround the ceiling.
Scattered conveyor belts lay broken down in a corner of the room. Some were still up, but disfunctional. Chairs and tables laid flipped over in a heap in a random pile in the room, scattered graffiti laid about covering the walls, but the room itself was relatively untouched and clean, aside from the dust piles and weeds growing in the cracks of the concrete floor.
“Oh woah..” Jae whispers in awe.
Kenny grins, eyes lighting up as he gushes about the room, “I know right? We could so set up here, like this could be our main room, and I’m thinking we could branch out into the other rooms from here, I saw I think… some stairs leading to a managers office towards that end too,” Kenny jabs a thumb behind him, “Isn’t this gonna be sick? I’m so excited for this guys.”
Kyle nods, “I think this room is pretty good! We could check the manager’s room and use that as a place to rest and think up of ideas.”
Stan whistles in agreement as he sets the duffle bag of equipment onto the ground gently, “Nice find Kenny.. next time just wait for the rest of us, yeah?”
Kenny lets out a humorless chuckle, “You got it boss man.”
“Don’t… call me that again..”
Ona puts her hands on her hips, “So let’s started yeah?” She exclaims, ready to get started.

We are so short-staffed in work it isn't even funny.
Of course, we're not the only shop in our area having such issues, but our head office just seems to refuse to want to do anything about it that could alleviate it or ease it even just a little bit, even when the other shops in our area are doing that and dealing with it. And even then, we still have to hit nigh-on impossible targets. (2 is a queue, each customer served in 60 seconds, whilst having the shelves fully stocked and having staff on the shop floor to deal with customer enquiries.)
It wouldn't be hard or costly for them to reduce or eliminate these targets on a temporary or long-term basis, borrow staff from across stores, reducing trading hours, taking breaks during the trading day, etc.
And it's causing issues with staff being exhausted from being in all day, every day, and it's even personally beginning to bleed out into my personal life - I'm so tired from having to work such long hours and then having to continuously chop and change plans with family and friends after work with little or no notice because I've got no energy for anything and I feel like I'm inconveniencing them or putting them and their daily plans out of joint.
At this stage, I think they're not going to do anything about it until someone literally drops dead with exhaustion at the tills, and even then I imagine they'd keep prodding you until you got up again.

Officially, the Barbie movie isn't showing in Russia.
But unofficially…
I'm in a Moscow shopping centre. A giant pink house has been erected next to the food court. Inside: pink furniture, pink popcorn and life-size cardboard cut-outs of Barbie and Ken who are beaming from ear to ear.
No wonder they're smiling: the Barbie film is pulling in the crowds at the multiplex opposite, despite Western sanctions. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a string of Hollywood studios stopped releasing their movies in Russia. But unauthorised copies are getting through and being dubbed into Russian.
Over at the cinema it's a bit cloak and dagger. When I ask one visitor which movie he's come to watch he names an obscure 15-minute Russian film and smiles.
To avoid licensing issues, some cinemas in Russia have been selling tickets to Russian-made shorts and showing the Barbie feature film as the preview.
Russia's culture ministry is not amused. Last month it concluded that the Barbie movie was "not in line with the aims and goals laid out by our president for preserving and strengthening traditional Russian moral and spiritual values."
Mind you, the cinemagoers I speak to are tickled pink that Barbie's hit the big screen here.
"People should have the right to choose what they want to watch," Karina says. "I think it's good that Russian cinemas are able to show these films for us."
"It's about being open-minded about other people's cultures," says Alyona. "Even if you don't agree with other people's standards, it's still great if you can watch it."
But Russian MP Maria Butina believes there's nothing great about Barbie: the doll or the film.
"I have issues with Barbie as a female form," she tells me. "Some girls - especially in their teens - try to be like a Barbie girl, and they exhaust their bodies."
Ms Butina adds that the film has not been licensed to appear in Russian cinemas.
"Do not break the law. Is this a question for our movie theatres? Absolutely. I filed several requests to cinemas asking on what basis they are showing the film," she says.
"You talk about the importance of following the law," I say, "but Russia invaded Ukraine. The United Nations says that was a complete violation of international law."
"Russia is saving Ukraine," she replies, "and saving the Donbas."
You hear this often from those in power in Russia. They paint Moscow as peacemaker, not warmonger. They argue that it is America, Nato, the West, that are using Ukraine to wage war on Russia. It is an alternative reality designed to rally Russians around the flag.
Amid growing confrontation with Europe and America, the Russian authorities seem determined to turn Russians against the West.
From morning till night state TV here tells viewers that Western leaders are out to destroy Russia. The brand-new modern history textbook for Russian high-school students (obligatory for use) claims that the aim of the West is "to dismember Russia and take control of her natural resources."
It asserts that "in the 1990s, in place of our traditional cultural values such as good, justice, collectivism, charity and self-sacrifice, under the influence of Western propaganda a sense of individualism was forced on Russia, along with the idea that people bear no responsibility for society."
The text book encourages Russian 11th graders to "multiply the glory and strength of the Motherland."
In other words, Your Motherland (not Barbie Land) needs you!
At the Moscow multiplex I'd found many people still open to experiencing Western culture and ideas. But what's the situation away from the Russian capital?
I drive to the town of Shchekino, 140 miles from Moscow. There's a concert on at the local culture centre. Up on stage four Russian soldiers in military fatigues are playing electric guitars and singing their hearts out about patriotism and Russian invincibility.
One of the songs is about Russia's war in Ukraine.
"We will serve the Motherland and crush the enemy!" they croon.
The audience (it's almost a full house) is a mixture of young and old, including school children, military cadets, and senior citizens. For the up-tempo numbers they're waving Russian tricolours that have been handed to them.
As the paratrooper pop stars sing their patriotic repertoire, film is being projected onto the screen behind them. No Barbie or Ken here. There are images of Russian tanks, soldiers marching and shooting and, at one point, of President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
Patriotic messaging is effective. Barbie mania isn't a thing on the streets of Shchekino.
"Right now it's important to make patriotic Russian films to raise morale," Andrei tells me. "And we need to cut out Western habits from our lives. How can we do that? Through film. Cinema can influence the masses."
"In Western films they talk a lot about sexual orientation. We don't support that," Ekaterina tells me. "Russian cinema is about family values, love and friendship."
But Diana is reluctant to divide cinema into Russian films and foreign movies.
"Art is for everyone. It doesn't matter where you're from," Diana tells me. "And we shouldn't restrict ourselves to art from one nation. To become a more cultured, sociable and a more interesting person, you need to watch films and read books from other countries, too."

Actual fic deadlines/priorities
Now till September 2 - My three hermitshipping bang fics are due, in a complete "can post if you got hit by a bus" version. Last possible extensions till September 8. I don't know if I'll get all three done. If I don't, I can't predict whether I'll put it down for awhile or try to get through it. If I want to wait to post, I can still possibly get the "doodle tier" of art and can add it to the collection, which is just so chill and cool of them, everything is chill and cool
September 3-18 - The burning man fics, god, I really want to post them during my (partial) top surgery and recovery. The current plan is to post chapter of three stories a day, that line up with time periods. (Like the first posting day covers approximately noon-2pm, etc). The current plan is for the final story to be posted on the final day. This means for anyone who pops in at the beginning, they can have three kinds of cliffhangers! I personally think it's super cool
September 19-late September - Recovering from surgery! If anyone has any tips, please let me know! I'm very excited! And I've had a "6 days inpatient three months recovery" surgery, so it's really about the detail of a different surgery recovery.
Late september-deceber: God, first my wips, my poor beautiful wips, along with the larper au (which might top out at three fics, we'll see... and immediately on writing that i got possessed with a flower husbands idea, very well! NO PROMISES). I'll also be editing my hermitshipping bang fics, which are allowed to be totally expanded on, including adding B plots, so... I might go off the rails there.
Onwards: If life goes to plan, sometime in 2024, probably late spring or later, I will have WAY less free time, and while I am very excited about the reason, it might stop fic entirely for awhile. @that-tall-queer-bassist has offered to help me (including up to cleaning up my speech to text into something like real notes or maybe prose). Part of why I push so hard to write is because my time having this much time is limited.
Crucial note about how I write: Sometimes what I need to work on fic is to go work on a different fic, and sometimes even publish it. I had a huge drought after limited life when i told myself I couldn't publish anything else, until i let myself do Driving After Dark and, well, I've published about 44k in 2.5 months. Sometimes I get stuck and all I can do is take a break. I now refuse to push myself hard enough on a fic that I burn out.
I genuinely have 20 wips that I want to publish. I acknowledge this is unlikely but they are all my weird little children. Things may appear in wip wednesday and never make it.
What does that note mean for you: Do not EVER pressure me to finish a fic. You may ALWAYS express enthusiasm for specific fic, and it may get it higher up the queue. Asking about timing is tricky. "i was wondering if you know when you might be publishing this one" - in practice has not upset me. "(affectionately) what happened to posting the next chapter in november?" - ruined my fucking day. Had to stop myself from a mean spirited essay about all the reasons it hadn't happened. I can not tell you how to ask this correctly. You now have this schedule here, and you can ask about how it's going (perhaps in an ask) if it's in a chill manner! I'll totally answer, including if any of the bang fics have been officially dropped from the bang (and thus i can tell you my neat ideas! all i'll say is there's some very me things and at least on surprise that might keep people from guessing it's me!)
Anyway follow @burningmanau for fun burning man pictures and fic stuff!

SERVICE
After a hectic morning, she was glad to escape the office for her lunch break. Having popped her head round the Cabinet Room's door to let the PM know she was off out for a bit (and have him accept her offer of bringing back a cup of coffee), she headed out through No 10's back door.
Once she'd rounded the corner and was mingling with the crowd of businessmen and various MPs' staff, she lit a much needed cigarette. Upon plucking it out of the packet, she had noticed that it was her last and sighed, making a mental note to herself to pick up some more on her way home later (if she managed to get out before 9pm, that was).
She took her time to stroll over to her favourite café a couple of streets away, grateful for the fresh air and the hit of nicotine. There was a slight chill in the air so she pulled her coat around her a little tighter, longing for the warm summer days that seemed to be miles away. Not that she would ever complain about the beauty of the city in spring, but this one had been particularly crisp: a little too much for her liking.
The familiar greeting of that gorgeous scent of ground coffee enveloped her as she pushed the door open, having stubbed out her cigarette moments before. A huge grin lit up her face the moment she saw her favourite barista, Abi, stood behind the till and she gave her a wave.
Upon joining the short queue, however, the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Was she being watched?

Tumblr media
FRIDAY - 11:29 PM
“Ha! Haa! Die you noob!” Banri shouted at his enemy on the screen. It was your 2 weeks break, so you decided to stay for the at the dorms despite being like a little sister to Izumi—it still took a lot of convincing to Sakyo on your part but it was thanks to Izumi that he was convinced—well more like forced to let you stay. On the condition that you will be helping out Izumi throughout your stay which isn’t so bad.
“Oh my goodness Banri, why do you always have to find me when I respawn, stop itt!!!” You complained. “Aww, you just have to do better then.” He teased but it was short-lived thanks to Itaru. “What the!” He exclaimed, “Blegh. Stop being so lovey-dovey it sucks to feel like the third wheel.” He deadpanned. “You mean to be the third wheel.” You chided. “Ooooohhh!! Nice one babe.” Banri said, “HAHAHA—HEY!! Why’d you—Why praise me if you're just gonna kill me.” You complained, “It’s not my fault I'm too good at this deathmatch.” He gloated while you just rolled your eyes.
“Ugh! You’re the worst.” You said, “But you love me.” He teased, “Oh I dunno, do I?” You replied. “Again, stop with the LQ.” Itaru deadpanned, “Don’t worry Itaru-san you’ll fi—WHAT HEY BANRI?! AGAIN!?” You complained once again. “Aw come on, babee, I know you can do better than that.” He taunted. Too mad to shout you answered, “You’re actually right, I can play better games than this.”
“Hey what? That’s not what I—HEY BABEE!!” Banri said facing you but he immediately turned back to his screen when you managed to kill him right before the match ended. “Awww, couldn’t keep your precious death count free from me?” You taunted. You three gamed all night, unbeknownst to Banri that you actually meant what you said, and updated Mystic Messenger. It’s been a long time since you’ve played it, so it wouldn’t be so bad to play it once more. It was 12 am so it was the perfect time to immediately start.
Tumblr media
Throughout the days while helping Izumi, the members who were frequently around you noticed that you have been checking your phone non-stop. Whenever they’d ask, you’d answer, “I was checking for any notifs and the time.” Those who asked would nod their heads or raise their brow at you but didn’t pry any further.
Well, technically you aren’t lying to them since you are telling the truth, you're not just specifying it. Like the usual, you three are gaming in Itaru’s room. A match just ended and a new chatroom has opened, “Wait before we enter queue, lemme double-check something.” You said, checking the website with the chatroom schedule, you saw that the next one doesn’t open in two hours from now.
“Alright, I’m good.” You told them and opened the chatroom while waiting for the matchmaking. You were smiling and laughing to yourself but it was short-lived when you heard ‘Match Found.’ iykyk after picking who you want to use, you go back to reading the chatroom and made sure to finish it before the match starts.
After gaming the night away, you three finally decided to hit the hay. Banri was already lying down in the bed while you were still sitting up, waiting for the new chatroom to open in a few minutes. "You're still not yet tired?" Banri asked while hugging your waist.
"I am but I just need to handle something. it'll be done in 10 minutes or so." You answered. Too tired to pry any further, he just nodded his head and slept hugging your waist.
Tumblr media
TUESDAY - 7 AM [CHATROOM DAY 4]
The next day passed and it was still the same routine, helping here and there but without your usual habits of checking the time and notifs. Some members were quite worried and some were piqued with this new habit of yours, but it's not like they had a problem with it since it wasn't hindering your work nor was it bothering them.
Then when night time came, you would game with Itaru and Banri, but on certain times when chatrooms don’t have a 1 hour interval, you’d sit out and focus on your phone. Only joining them once you’ve finished the chatrooms and other things like the calls, texts, and emails. This “same routine” happened for another 2 days.
THURSDAY - 7 AM [CHATROOM DAY 6]
Whenever Banri noticed you squealing, smiling, or giggling to yourself while playing Mystic Messenger. He’d try to look over your shoulder or ask what it’s about. You simply answer with “Nothing important.” “Ah, nothing much.” “Nothing special.” “Ah, something you don’t need to worry about.”
Banri has certainly had enough because you were no longer paying attention to him. Just like when you two were about to go to bed, you were still sitting up and waiting for the chatroom but this time, Banri wasn’t going to sleep. Not until he gets a proper explanation of your recent behavior.
“Hey Y/n, are you sure you're not cheating on me?” He asked, his tone was very serious and you could feel his sharp gaze on you. “Now why would I do that?” You asked, looking up from your phone to him. “Well I don’t know, maybe it’s because my girlfriend has been paying attention to her phone and laughing and squealing at it. With no proper explanation.” He answered ever so sarcastically.
Rolling your eyes at him, “Pft, well sorry for making you jealous.” You said with a small grin. “Huh—What?! That’s not—“ He was about to exclaim but you cut him off by covering his mouth. “Shhhh, you’re gonna wake up Juza, sheesh. Alright, I’ll tell you. It’s Mystic Messenger.” You told him while removing your hand.
“Why did you have to keep that a secret then?” He asked, “Cause I know you’d want to join in and play with me too but I wouldn’t want to hurt your ego since you won’t be able to beat me at it.” You taunted, “Is this a challenge that I hear?” He smirked. “If your ego is ready to take a blow, then yes. It is a challenge.” You answered, “Alright then, I’ll start right now.” He declared
“We haven't even decided about how you will win your challenge." You said. "What? Don't I just complete the game in a short time to beat you?" He asked. "That's not it dummy, every player will take 11 days to finish unless you decide to skip the common route for hourglasses, but since you're a beginner you can't." You explained
"What?!" He exclaimed, "Shhh, goodness it's a miracle that Juza is still asleep with all your shouting." You rebuked. Sighing to yourself, you explain the whole mechanics of the game to him. "How in the world do I beat you then?" He asked with a face filled with disappointment. "It's simple, you just need to get a good ending without cheats.” You answered, “It’s Thursday—Well technically Friday already. If you start right now, I’m gonna check up on your progress this coming Tuesday.” You added
FRIDAY - 12:04 AM [Y/N’S CHATROOM DAY 7 ; BANRI’S CHATROOM DAY 1]
“Well I better start now, if I wanna prove to you that I can beat you in every game—even these otome games.” He taunted “Suit yourself, I’ll be cheering on you then.” You said before giving him a peck on the cheek. Feeling very confident that he was gonna reach a bad ending and slept the night away.
Tumblr media
TUESDAY - 9 AM [Y/N’S CHATROOM DAY 11 ; BANRI’S CHATROOM DAY 5]
Days passed and watching Banri rage over failing to answer the correct choice in emails, the wrong choices in chatrooms, and missing the chatrooms were so entertaining.
You two could just be sitting beside each other quietly and doing your own thing when you suddenly hear him saying "HA?!" "What?!" "Y/N what's wrong with this game?!" or anything of the like. “There’s nothing wrong with the game—you just answered it incorrectly.” You would answer every time.
Now it was the moment of truth for Banri but he just doesn’t know it yet. After playing the game so many times, you already recognize a bad ending when you see one. Banri couldn’t check the chatrooms right away due to responsibilities but now that he is free, you decided to join him since you finished your 8am chatroom already, the next one was at 12 noon. “Oh! Sweet, a story mode!” He commented. Looking over his shoulder, you immediately knew what it was.
You watch as his face goes through a bunch of emotions. Looking again at his screen, he was finally at his last chatroom. “WHAT?!” He shouted as the screen of a bad ending appears. Laughing at his frustrated face, you pat him on the back. “Don’t worry, it’s very normal to reach a bad end at Day 5, especially for busy people.” You told him.
“Well then, if you’re so high and mighty. What’s your progress then?” He asked, “Hmm, let me check the chatroom timings.” You replied and went to the net and there he saw the whole schedule of every day. “It says here 12 noon.” Waving your phone at him. “You’ve been cheating the whole time?!” He exclaimed. “Me? No, this is literally the nth time I’ve played this game and to be fair I didn’t use any of these cheats the first time I played. So it’s only fair that the same happens to you.” You explained
“Well, then Mr. You Can Do Better Than This, I wish you a pleasant day.” You pat him on the shoulder and gave him a quick kiss. Before walking off to Izumi while leaving a dumbfounded Banri.

As It Was (Steve HarringtonxReader)
Part 7
Work at Scoops wasn’t busy, which was good but that just meant the tips would suck ass. Steve is in the back, doing god knows what, while Robin and I are taking care of the customers up front.
“Have a nice day,” Robin doesn’t sound convincing as she hands two customers their ice cream cones.
“Thank you,” The woman says as the couple walks away.
“Gross, isn’t it?” Robin mumbles to me.
“What?” I ask, putting the cash in the register.
“Love, couples, PDA,” She pretends to gag.
“It doesn’t sound that terrible, Robin. Just wait till you meet the right guy,” I pat her shoulder.
She glares at me, “Yeah that won’t happen. Maybe for you, but not for me sugar.”
I roll my eyes and grab a rag to wipe down the counters.
“Come on, Byers. You’re hot, pretty, beautiful, gorgeous,”
I laugh, “Buckley, that stuff means the same thing,”
Robin shakes her head, “No, no, no, it’s not. You are all those things but you pull them off. You have so much to offer. You’re smart, funny, and anyone would be so fucking lucky to be with you,”
“If they’re so lucky, then where are they at? Where is my knight in shining armor?” I scoff.
Robin gave me a smile and shrugs her shoulders. “What if he’s under your nose and you’re just being dumb?”
I scrunch my face up. “I thought you said I was smart?”
Robin holds her stomach as she laughs hard. I roll my eyes and giggle.
“Hi!”
Robin and I look over the counter and see a smaller adorable child. A smile grows on my face.
“Hi,” Robin says back as she leans over the counter.
“I’m Dustin,” He says, pointing to himself.
“I’m Robin,” She looks confused.
“DUSTY!” I yell, leaving behind the counter, and going to him.
“LEX!” He hugs me and we laugh.
“How’s was camp?” I ask, pulling away from him.
“It was wonderful. Also, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Robin! Uh, is—is he here?” Dustin looks between me and Robin.
“Is who here?” Robin asks.
On queue, Steve busts out the back door, seeing us with Dustin.
“Henderson!” Steve says, his arms raised up in the air.
I can’t help but laugh seeing how excited Steve was to his Dustin. Dustin points at Steve and laughs, jumping up and down like Steve was.
“Henderson! He’s back!” Steve shouts.
Robin looks at me, so confused. I smile and whisper, “They are buddies,”
“He’s back!” Steve says again.
“I’m back!” Dustin giggles.
“You got the job!” Dustin points at the shop.
“I got the job!” Steve yells and imitates playing the trumpet.
I laugh, holding my stomach. Bunch of dummies.
“Hey! Oh!” Dustin and Steve say, shaking hands.
They start imitating they were holding lightsabers, clashing them together. They groan as they got hit and then start laughing. I roll my eyes and Robin leans to my ear.
“What the fuck? Bunch of nerds.”
I keep laughing.
“How many children are you friends with, Dingus?” Robin says to Steve.
Steve looks at us and pulls himself together, sighing.
“Alex, can you make a Banana Boat for the small one?” Steve rests his hand on my shoulder.
“Only because it’s for Dusty,” I lightly shove Steve off me and go make Dustin’s ice cream. ——————————————
I am on my break and I decide to go sit with Steve and Dustin in the booth, where Dustin was scarfing down the banana split I had made for him.
“No, no, no! Hotter than Phoebe Cates? No.” Steve says to Dustin.
“Mm-hmm,” Dustin nods his head.
“Who’s hotter than Phoebe Cates?” I sit down next to Steve.
“My girlfriend!” Dustin smiles.
“Way to go, Dusty!” I give him a fist bump, earning a glare from Steve.
“Please don’t encourage him,” Steve looks at me funny, and I stick my tongue out at him.
“She’s brilliant, too. And she doesn’t even care that my real pearls are still coming in. She says kissing is better without teeth.” Dustin continues.
Steve looks at Dustin and then me, completely weirded out.
“Wow. Yeah, that’s great. Proud of you, man.” Steve stutters out.
“What’s her name?” I ask.
“Suzie,” Dustin takes a bite of his ice cream.
“Yeah now, that whole thing that’s ro—that’s kinda romantic.”
“That’s like…Wow,” I say.
“Hm,” Dustin then points at his treat, “So do you really just get to eat as much of this as you want?”
Steve and I nod.
“Yeah, I mean, sure. It’s not really a good idea for me, though. I gotta keep in shape for the ladies.” Steve gestures to himself.
“Yeah, and how’s that working out for you?” I ask.
“Shut up Byers,” Steve says.
“Yeah what she said,” Robin walks by.
“Ignore her too,” Steve points at Robin.
“She seems cool,” Dustin says.
“Robin and I are besties,” I say, smiling.
“Besties at ganging up on me. And she’s not cool. So, where are the other knuckleheads?” Steve asks.
“They ditched me yesterday.” Dustin frowns.
“Even Will? That doesn’t sound like him.” I say, now full of worry.
“No.” Steve comments.
“Yeah, my first day back. Can you believe that shit?”
“Whoa. Seriously?” Steve says.
“That’s weird,” I say, resting my chin on my hand, while my elbow was on the table.
“I swear to god. Mm.” He took a big bite of his ice cream and he points at us like he just thought of something.
“They’re gonna regret it, though, big time, when they don’t get to share in my glory.”
“Glory? What glory?” I ask.
Steve crosses his arms and leans them on the table. Dustin scoots closer to Steve. As he does this, I scoot closer to Steve, my hand on his shoulder. I feel his back tense. I rub my thumb up and down, and his shoulder relaxes into my touch.
“So, last night,” Dustin begins, “we’re trying to get in contact with Suzie,”
“Oh. Mhmm.” Steve nods his head and gives Dustin a smirk.
“And, um,” Dustin pauses and whispers something.
We couldn’t hear what he said.
“What?” Steve and I say together.
He whispers it again but still too quiet.
“Speak louder, dude,” Steve says.
“I intercepted a secret Russian communication!!!!!” Dustin yells.
Everyone in the shop looks at Dustin. I look at Steve and then Dustin, grimacing.
“Jeez, shh. Yeah, okay, that’s what I thought you said.” Steve says.
I smack Steve’s chest. “You didn’t hear what he said,”
“What—what does that mean?” Steve asks, ignoring me.
“It means, Steve, we could be heroes. Even Alex. True American heroes.”
“Huh,” Steve huffs.
“Mm-hmm?” Dustin nods.
“American heroes,” Steve smiles.
“Don’t make it go to your head, dipshit,” I say.
“I’m fine,” Steve says.
“Just think, you could have all the ladies you want and more,” Dustin says.
I feel my face fall and I remove my hand from Steve and scoot back a bit.
“More?” Steve asks, looks like he’s staring into la-la land.
“More,” Dustin confirms.
“I like more,” Steve states.
“Mm-hmm.” Dustin nods.
“Don’t get Romeo his hopes up, Dusty,” I say.
“Don’t interrupt the dream, Alex,” Steve waves his hand at me.
I roll my eyes and mumble what he said, under my breath.
“What’s the catch?” Steve asks.
Dustin shakes his head, “No catch, I just need your help.”
“With what?” Steve asks.
Dustin grabs his backpack and unzips the front pocket to pull out the book. The title read, ‘Romanov’s Russian-English, English-Russian Dictionary’.
“Translation,” He says, showing us the book.
“What about me?” I ask.
Dustin looks at me and smiles.
“You can help. We need your brains. And I’m sure you’ll have guys all over you.” He smiles his toothless grin showing.
“Nah, she doesn’t want that,” Steve shakes his head.
I glare at Steve and smirk.
“Actually I do. Count me in, Henderson.”
Steve looks at me, a look of disappointment it seems like but I don’t care.

[Tacones Rojos] Chapter 12: The Goddess Who Had It All
Summary:
ACT II: GABRIELA – Gabriela has everything she could ever want - a fulfilling career, great friends, and a boyfriend that could make anyone swoon. But despite of other people's assumptions, the Goddess of Bogotá's life isn't as perfect as it seems.
– The theme song for this chapter: Dance The Night by Dua Lipa
+👠👠👠+
It had been almost two months ago since her world turned itself upside down.
Gabriela lived a fairly normal life, as normal as one could get for an indie actress who also worked part-time as a music producer. Her time was filled with plenty of highs and lows, and she loved being creative, even if the challenges stumped her out. There was nothing else Gabriela wouldn’t exchange for the world, except, maybe, for a chance to breathe.
Whenever life became too much for her, she would put on her heels and go out dancing till dawn. Dancing brought out the truest form of herself, and when she hit the floor, there was no room for anyone to cast judgment.
In the recesses of the city’s hottest nightclubs, she was free.
People called her “La Diosa”, the goddess who evoked allure, mystery, fate and prosperity. For wherever she went, they believed luck followed, and when she danced, she lit the room on fire. Everyone had a good time when she was around, and even if her heart was on the verge of breaking, it never, ever, showed. Gabriela kept everyone’s world turning, the same way she tried to keep her own from standing still.
Tonight, however, she didn’t quite feel like herself.
“Do you think he saved our spot, or do you think it’s already taken?” Her friend, Ávila, asked Gabriela as they made their way to La Tribu, a trendy bar that was on the edge of the city. It was a long way away from Gabriela’s place, but it was always well worth the trip.
“I don’t know, you’re the one with the number.” Gabriela half-heartedly commented. Normally she would be up to celebrate the weekend by going out to have fun, but it was hard to get into the mood after the terrible day she had. “Hopefully it hasn’t, but I doubt it.”
“And maybe you’re right to doubt.” Ávila cringed when they arrived and found a long line of people waiting to enter the building. “Looks like it’s busier than usual.”
Gabriela tried hard not to frown. She anticipated this, knowing that the place itself had a reputation for being one of the best within the area, but had hoped otherwise. Despite looking worn down with graffiti, La Tribu’s exterior was vibrant, reminiscent of the colorful houses in Cartegena. “I thought you messaged your boyfriend, Ávi!” She groaned, adjusting the straps of her dress while Ávila grabbed her hand so they could jump the queue. They got a few displeased looks from other people, but most gave way when they noticed who was cutting through. “That’s the only reason why I agreed to go out tonight!”
Ávila didn’t look pleased at all with Gabriela’s whining. “And I did, but I didn’t expect this crowd. Besides, do you think I’d let you be all alone in that apartment of yours, sulking while your no-good on-again, off-again, significant other fucks his way through the entire city?”
The comment stung. “That’s low.”
“And?”
“You know that he’s…sorry and has been making it up to me.” Gabriela defended, though there was a hint of hesitation in her tone. Was he? “I know he hasn’t been the best, but not all of our fights have to do with his past mistakes.”
“You know that you deserve a whole lot better than him, right?”
“Yes, but…”
“But you two have this long history together since childhood and whatnot, and he’s your first love.” Ávila made a face. “And I get that. It’s really sweet when you think about it, but when push comes to shove, he doesn’t even have the common sense to realize that whatever stupid shit he does, you’d be caught up in his mess.”
Ávila always had a way with words. They were no nonsense, given their background in the cutthroat world of fashion. They believed sugar coating made matters more complicated than it needed to be, and was brutally honest where it mattered. Gabriela understood that Ávila, while seemingly rough on the outside, was completely worried for her. They weren’t good at showing it sometimes, but she knew they meant well. They had been like that since they first started together in the industry, and while Gabriela never hid secrets, there was more to the story than Ávila knew.
It wasn’t just the longstanding history — Gabriela’s predicament had more to do with the complicated and strained relationship with her family. Apart from her brother, whom she had just recently reconnected with, she had not been in contact with her parents since they kicked her out of the house. They didn’t like Marco to begin with, and if anything, they had good reason to.
“It’s complicated, Ávi.” Was all Gabriela managed to say. “He’s trying.”
“He might, but it isn’t good enough, though, Ella.”
The place was jam-packed. There were plenty of regulars milling about, but also some new faces hanging around the counter where José, Ávila’s boyfriend, was working his magic. They didn’t need to try to catch his attention —  he spotted the two instantly. “Oh my sweet wonderful man, thank god you came through.” Ávila murmured as José led them to the far end of the room, where a free booth was waiting for them. “Forgive Ella here, amor.” Ávila maneuvered Gabriela to sit. “We’re off to a rough start.”
“Nothing a drink can’t fix.” José shrugged. “If you have any requests, just let Javier know, okay? There’s a bachelorette party going on right now, and they’ve been at it hard.”
“We’ll be fine. Now go focus on your patrons.”
“I don’t think a drink would save me.” Gabriela slumped against the table. “This sucks.”
“Oh, don’t start with the pity party.” Ávila took Gabriela’s face in their hands and squished. “How many times have you gone through this? You and Marco have broken up and gotten back together more times than I could count on one hand, and don’t get me started on the scandal that’s circulating around him right now.”
Gabriela had almost forgotten about that, but now the memory of her earlier fight with Marco came back. She squashed down the uneasiness threatening to spill her tears.
As if on cue, Gabriela’s phone began vibrating in her purse. Before she could make a move to check, Ávila snatched it off her hands. “He can’t take a hint, huh?” They scowled at the screen when they saw Marco’s name pop up. “Please don’t tell me you’re going to answer.”
“I’m not.” Gabriela grabbed the phone back to turn it off. “Can we stop talking about him right now? I just want to unwind and forget about it all.”
“That’s more like it!” Ávila instantly beamed, quickly signaling one of the servers, Javier, over. “Let’s get you something really good. We’re going to party till the sun comes up!”
As the night progressed, Gabriela managed to forget her troubles, even if only for a little while. The drinks continuously flowed, one after another. “I’m in the mood to dance, Ávi!” Gabriela tugged on Ávila’s hand towards the dance floor. “Join me?”
“No way.” Ávila teased. “You go!”
“Pretty please? I love this song!”
“Yeah, but someone needs to watch over our stuff and you know my boyfriend can’t do it for us right now.”
“But you’ll be all alone and you’re the one who invited me out.”
“I’m not going anywhere. Go and have some fun.” Ávila tried their best not to laugh and shooed Gabriela away. “This is your moment to shine. Show them how it’s really done…La Diosa!”
“Haha, stop!” Gabriela started giggling, the alcohol buzzing into her system. She playfully smacked Ávila’s shoulder. “I don’t even know how that nickname even stuck. I’m no goddess!”
“Trust me, you’re too humble for your own good sometimes.” Ávila snickered in response before Gabriela made her way confidently towards the crowd. “Hey, DJ!” They called out to the person handling the mixer. “Pump up the music! La Diosa is here to dance!”
People always wondered how Gabriela managed to balance herself in towering heels without even tripping over her feet. On any given day, she would have chosen another pair, maybe even comfortable shoes. But for times when she needed a little boost, she would pick her gorgeous, blood-red heels, and go dancing in them. The shoes weren’t always ideal to keep on for long, but it made her feel confident. Beautiful, even.
Cheers erupted from the crowd and many more joined her on the floor. Gabriela twirled and swayed to the beat like her life depended on it. All of her emotions rose up to the surface and she felt a tear run down her cheek. It twinkled like a diamond underneath the neon lights, but Gabriela didn’t care. Sweat and tears and laughter mingled with each other and it was all she lived for.
She didn’t know how long she had been dancing. The rhythm made time move differently. Gabriela was too immersed to even notice a man who moved too close for comfort next to her.
“Gabriela.”
Her euphoria was replaced with confusion. She recognized that voice anywhere. “Marco?” She whipped her head around to find her lover standing there. “What are you doing here?”
He looked disheveled, like he had rolled off the bed and dressed himself in the dark. “I have been looking everywhere for you.” Without an explanation, Marco grasped her arm and pulled her away from the dance floor. “I’m taking you home. Now.”
“Wait, wait, wait. No.” Gabriela immediately yanked him off her and for a moment, she swore his eyes darkened. “I don’t want to go home just yet. The party’s just getting started.”
Marco ran a tense hand through his hair. “Are you drunk?”
“No.” She lied. “And what’s it to you? If you’re just here to be a prick, leave. You’re ruining my night.”
He scrutinized her carefully. “Unbelievable. You’re drunk.” Marco accused. “You’re not thinking straight.”
“First of all, I’m not drunk.” Gabriela hissed, annoyed that he decided to pick a fight with her. Wasn’t our earlier one enough? “In fact, I was feeling pretty fine before you showed up unexpectedly.” Other guests had begun to notice the trouble that was brewing and watched with keen eyes. “Why are you really even here, anyway?”
“I already told you, I’m here to take you home. Why are you being so difficult, mami? ”
“Don’t you dare mami me! Do you think that coming here and suddenly acting that you actually cared would make everything better? Like how dare you think I’d go with you just because you–”
Gabriela gasped when Marco suddenly kissed her, cutting her off. “Fine. I’ll come clean. I was worried when you didn’t answer my calls or my texts. I didn’t even know if you were coming home tonight.”
She stood there unconvinced. “Look, I know doing this doesn’t make it any better, but hear me out, please.” Marco moved closer, and Gabriela could feel his hot breath near her ear. It made her shiver, and she cursed herself for feeling weak. “I wanted to apologize. I’ve been under so much pressure lately that I’ve said some things that I didn’t mean. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you, Ella. I promise, it won’t happen again.”
Minutes felt like hours, and hours felt like eternity. Gabriela wondered how many times he had used this line on her. How many promises had he not kept? Yet like the sorry sap that she was, she fell for it over and over again.
“Let me make it up to you.” He pleaded.
If Gabriela took the time to be honest with herself, her gut told her to move along, dump his sorry ass and walk away. But her heart said otherwise, knowing she was not quite ready to let it all go. In the end, he won out. “Okay.” Gabriela agreed, feeling herself getting sober. Nothing had changed. “Okay. Take me home.”
I’m in love with this man. He’s in love with me. We are happy.
She let Marco lead her out to the exit, but not before Ávila stepped in, blocking their way. “You.” They growled at him, stabbing a finger at his chest. “I don’t really know what she sees in you, but one of these days, mark my words, she will wake up and your lies will no longer hold power over her.”
“Ávi…” Gabriela began, but Ávila shook their head. “My friend deserves someone so much better than you.” They continued. “She is too good for you.”
Marco ignored Ávila’s rant and discreetly sidestepped away. “Sure.” He deadpanned. “Her bag please, Ávila. We’re leaving.”
Ávila begrudgingly handed over Gabriela’s belongings and watched their friend’s retreating figure. They were worried, but there was nothing else they could do. Ávila’s only hope was that Gabriela would realize that she deserved someone who truly loved her for who she was, flaws and all. They just had to wait a little longer. It wasn’t like the next person that would pass by would be the one Gabriela needed.
And as Ávila turned their back towards the bar to get another drink, someone else was on their way out, desperately searching in the cold, dark night.

You had never been happier for the downpour that started, forcing you and Daichi to take cover from the makeshift picnic spot on the hood of his old mustang. Don’t get you wrong, you loved his spontaneous dates but a 10pm picnic date on his car in a random empty parking lot out in the country after failing a chemistry test wasn’t your best idea of fun. It had started out innocent enough, bottles of nonalcoholic juice poured into plastic cups as he fed you bits of cheese as you ranted about how unfair the test was and how long you had studied.
He had stared adoringly at you in-between bits of food, as you both ignored the distance rumbles of thunder that moved in a lot quicker than you had expected. His plans had been to stargaze with you as he admitted, but the cloud cover had ruined the plan, so you had been simply enjoying the company of each other until it started to pour. You both barely had time to recognize what was about to start as two, large drops hit both of you between the sky opened up. Curses left his lips as the two of you rushed to clean up the mess stuffing it the best you could before as rain drenched the both of you, he had stopped you before you could fully dive into the car, pulling you into his arms as he kissed you harshly, rain pouring down both of your faces as water stuck the two of you together before he opened the passenger door, pushing you in and shutting it before running around to the other side for himself. As he slid into his car, ignoring the “No Wet Clothes” rule he had for the old leather as clothes stuck to both of your figures, giggles leaving your lips as water pinned both of your hair down, long strands falling into his face as he pushed it back.
As he looked up at you, you couldn’t help but gaze adoringly back at him. “I’m sorry…this was not at all what I planned.” He apologized, and you grinned back at him. “It was perfect, Daichi.” You promised, reaching back to brush water from his cheek. He tenderly leaned into your touch, as you cupped his face. He smiled softly before he turned, pressing a kiss to your palm before he leaned forward catching your lips in a soft kiss as the rain drummed steadily against the exterior of the old mustang. As you kissed him back, hand moving to brace lightly against his chest his own hands moved from his lap, to find their way into your hair, fisting it lightly as you gasped softly. Your eyelashes fluttered lightly as his tongue ran against your bottom lip asking for entrance which you granted him eagerly. As his tongue ran against yours, you moaned softly into his open mouth which he took as permission to pull you in tighter to him.
After a moment, you broke apart both panting lightly. The glow of the lone streetlight lit up the car interior, despite the fogged-up windows from your breathing and you couldn’t help but admire how pretty he looked under it. He nudged his head towards the backseat, “Do you want…?” he questioned softly, leaving the rest of the sentence unsaid as you licked your lips his eyes darting down to them as you nodded softly.
He shifted then, bringing his seat forward slightly before he pushed up, maneuvering into the backseat ungracefully his large frame making the movement awkward. Your hand covered your mouth as you giggled at the sight, even as he looked up at you a smile clear on his face and he held out a hand, “Well come on my Prince, I’d like to see you do better.” He stated a laugh in his voice even as you took it copying his movements climbing back to straddle his legs. “You sure this is okay?” You whispered and at his confused look, you made a soft gesture to the exterior and he smiled, “No one comes out here really. Besides horny kids, and good boyfriends trying to make a cute date before the weather fucks it up.” He promised drawing a laugh from you as your cupped his face, leaning forward to kiss his lips lightly as his hands moved to your hips. “I think you still might fall into that first category.” You whispered against his lips, and you couldn’t help but laugh at the glint in his eyes as he leaned forward to nip at your lip. “Oh absolutely, I never said I didn’t.” He teased, hands running up your shirt, against your skin before he grabbed your shirt and pulled it up over your head as you laughed.
His hands spread across your skin, admiring the glow of your skin underneath the lighting even as you grabbed his shirt, pulling it up over his head also forcing him to move his hands to take it off. You leaned forward pressing a kiss to his collarbone, moving up his neck as he rolled his head to the side for your access. His hands own hands returning to your chest, running lightly over the skin before looking up at you with an arched eyebrow. “Have I told you how good you look?”
You shrugged, heats flushing slightly at his intense glaze. “I always wanna look good for you,” You admitted, and his lips dropped in mock shock. “Y/N, and you called me a horny kid.” He teased and you rolled your eyes leaning forward to kiss him as his own hands moved to your back, gently scraping down it as you shivered pressing your chest firmly into his as he laughed, nipping at your skin.
His hands moved to the front, fingers brushing over your nipples, rolling over the buds lightly before tugging them at them making a soft gasp escape your mouth as your arched up into the touch. His mouth fell to your chest sucking a mark into the skin first at the top of your chest and then moving down your nipple running his tongue along it as you gasped his name, hips rocking softly against his and the growing bulge in the man's pants.
He continued to play with your chest, alternating between the sides until you where whimpering his name, begging for his touch in other places. Finally, he relented, grasping you tightly as he laid you down on the seat as he moved to undo your button on your pants kissing his way down before tugging your pants and underwear off in one smooth movement. No matter how many times the captain had seen your body naked, you still couldn’t help but blush at his intense glaze as his hands ran down your stomach to your awaiting cock. His head dipped down, pressing a kiss to the head of it before he licked stripe up the shaft even as you gasped attempting to pull away at the sensation. His hands moved quickly, gripping your hips preventing your movement as his eyes flicked up to lock on yours as he shifted further back to take you firmly into his mouth as you trembled.
Mouth opening in a silent “O” as his tongue ran firmly against length, bobbing his head up and down the length as you moaned out his name, a hand reaching down to grip his hair firmly as your hips pressed up against his hands where they held you steady on the seat. He paused, pulling off with a soft pop long enough to reach up to the front, pulling out a bottle of lube and a spare condom from the glovebox before he returned to his position in between your legs. A soft pop sounded from the bottle as he popped it open, drizzling it on his fingers before he leant back sucking your cock into his mouth with one hand while the other one moved to circle your hole before lightly pressing in with a finger as you gasped, falling silent in surprise at the sudden intrusion. “So tight for me, Y/N.” He purred out in between suckling on the head of your dick, “What did I do to deserve this?” He questioned adding another finger, stroking up onto your walls even as you moaned. “Feel so good, can’t wait to fuck you. Listen to all those noises you’re making, are they for me Y/N?”
Your free hand came up to cover your own mouth and he halted his movements. “No baby, I wanna hear you.”  He insisted and as you nodded your response you reluctantly pulled your own arm away and he continued his movement head dipping down to continue to suck you off much to your own delight at the sensation. “Dai,” you whimpered out. “Please, I can’t…I’m so close.” You admitted and his own dark eyes flicked up to you.
“That’s it, baby. I wanna hear you, feel you, taste you. Come on now, cum for me.” He purred out, tongue continuing to flick across your head, fingers curling up into your most sensitive spot as you gasped for him. Back arching up from the seat as you cried out his name as you reached your peak, his fingers and mouth continuing to work until you were flinching away from begging him to stop. As he finally pulled away, he wiped his chin on his arm even as you blushed at the appearance of him. His hands fell to his own pants as you sat up, legs still weak underneath you, your hands knocking his aside as you undressed him. His hips lifted as you tugged his jeans and boxers down, eyes falling to his cock which slapped against his stomach, twitching as you freed it from the confines.
You shifted, laying down on the seat as you wrapped your hand around the shaft leaning forward to lick up the side softly as his head lolled back softly on to the headrest of the seat as you took him gently in your mouth sucking on it as his hips flinched upwards, a hand falling lightly to the back of your head reassuring you of your movements as he gently kept your hair from your face. “Baby, you’re so perfect. Feel so good for me,” he purred out from gritted teeth as his stomach contracted as you continued you to bob your head up and down his length as he continued the verbal praise.
As you continued to lick and slurp up and down his length, he suddenly let out a hiss, gripping your hair tightly, “Wait, fuck Y/N gotta stop that for me baby. No, wait, stop actually, shit, that’s- I wait…Y/N, baby please.” His voice was strained even as his hips continued to lightly thrust up into your mouth until you finally pulled off with a soft pop as he moaned again.
“Gotta stop that, or I won’t last.” He admitted, “Too good at that.” He teased, stroking your face lightly before he shifted, reaching for the condom he originally had set aside, opening it carefully as he rolled it down his length, drizzling more lube onto his hand as he coated it thoroughly before he winked at you, lightly tapping his thigh inviting you forward. As you moved to straddle his hips, one hand found your hips helping you line himself up to you as you sunk down with a soft sigh.
His brow was furrowed tightly in consideration, as he carefully watched your face for any discomfort before he gently gripped your hips with both hands. Finding no signs of pain, he gently rolled his hips up into you, eyes locking with your Brown ones as your hips mirrored his. Your hands moved to his face, cupping it as you kissed him as you both continued to roll your hips together, soft gasps and noises falling from both of your lips in between kisses as you rode him.
One of his hands left the bruising grips on your thigh, to instead reach down, wrapping around your cock, giving it slow strokes in time with your thrusts as you moaned into his mouth. “Dai, that feels so good.” You whispered and he hummed, forehead bumping against yours as he continued his own slow thrusts up into you. “Mind if we switch positions?” he questioned softly, and you nodded shifting to move off him as his hands moved to grab your ass, cupping it lightly as he shifted you to instead lay across the seat underneath him where he could easily thrust into you.
You gasped at the new position, this one hitting all the right spots inside you as your hands struggled to find purchase, one gripping tightly to his back and the other bracing against the window, fingers sliding down the glass leaving marks you knew would be visible the next time anyone examined it too closely. Still, as your fingers dug into the skin on his back, it only spurred him on further as his thrusts sped up hand still wrapped around you in time with his strokes as his head dipped down to suck on the skin he could find, leaving marks which would be tender for days.
A soft sob left your lips, at the mix of sensations as Daichi continued the assault of pleasure on your body. From his tight-lipped, “Hmmm?” of acknowledgment, and furrowed brow you knew he was getting close, his thrusts occasionally stuttering as he lost rhythm at the sensation, “Baby, Y/N, I’m so close.” He admitted ducking his head to press a kiss into your shoulder as his thumb sped up as you arched up into him. “Oh wait, fuck Dai, just like that.” You managed to gasp out as he continued the unrelenting pace, the bubble in your stomach growing as your head tossed back baring your neck for him.
“Feel so good around me, so fuckin’ tight Y/N. Just like that baby, say my name.” He encouraged pressing a soft kiss to your jaw even as you gasped around him, “I can’t-“ you started and he tsked, nipping your lip softly. “Yes, you can, cum for my baby boy. That’s it Y/N. Cum for me.” He crooned finger holding the same pace even as you twitched under him, a soft cry escaping your lip as your fingers dug into his back leaving half-crescent shapes along his back he knew his team would tease him about the next day, but as you came around him he couldn’t find himself caring as you spasmed around him crying out his name, coating both your chests with your cum as you came from the sensation.
He cursed softly, burying his head once again in your neck as he gently bit down as his hips stilled inside you, fingers still rubbing your cock, working you through your orgasm until you were pushing his hand away from oversensitivity. As you both laid there, his body draped unceremoniously across you, you both focused on each other’s breathing as you softly drew circles onto his skin listening to the rain continuing to pound on the roof although it had slacked off a bit. After a moment, he had pulled back, sliding off the used condom and setting it down on the floor to dispose of before he laid back down, head in the valley of your chest as you played with his hair.
The air was hot, and sticky. The windows thoroughly fogged up from your heavy breathing, and as you watched raindrop roll down the window, Daichi reached up. Drawing a crude “DS +” on the window, he paused looking back at you before you reached up filling in your own initials so it read “DS + (Initals)” before he continued making a soft heart around it as you giggled at the mushy gesture, pulling his face up to kiss you lightly. “I love you Daichi Sawamura.” You admitted, rubbing your nose against his and he grinned back into you, “I love you too Y/N L/N.”
