I wish GI wasn't trying to push people (kinda specifically longer players) away from the game, like damn. tbh 2022 is the first year in a while where i can confidently say i ended this year in a better place than where i began it

#2021 was weird bc there were ups and downs but the ending was very similar to the beginning (which wasn't bad it was just weirdly circular) #2020 was absolute shit in december (well all year but i was doing okay in the middle for a bit) #2019 was fine but considering how rough the start of junior year was i don't remember it as a great finale #and then before that i don't really remember how my character development was on a year to year basis lmao #but 2022 has really been kind to me. i hope 2023 is even better

after a year postponing it, i finally drew trucy and pearls in casual outfits !! 🩷🩵

as always, i redrew the original 2021 drawings i did lmao i don't have much to say about these drawings, i just did what i did with all the drawings i redrew last year: change their outfits so they aren't wearing 2020core clothes(??). nothing against it, but trucy's old outfit reminds me a lot of that era of the internet and i don't like it anymore! 😋

i think this represents more my interpretations of them tbh.. trucy would wear childish and colorful clothes, but wouldn't wear something too extravagant or alternative (i don't think phoenix could afford buying her too expensive clothes either lol! so she'd just diy her own stuff)— for pearl, i've always thought she'd be a very feminine girl but she'd also like to wear comfy clothes, so the maxiskirt felt like the right choice for her outfit... i also used my pearls redesign because 1) im not a fan of the aa5 hairstyle and 2) she looks like a 10 year old even though she's like. 17-18 in the last games, so yeah i wanted to make her look her age <3 — anywayyy that's all, i hope you like it lo!!!

oo this is interesting! but kinda hard. i think, for the most part, i think of myself as an artist who also writes.

my novels + fics have become so integral to me in recent years, but even though i've self published and long to be a financially stable full time author, it's just that i've been focused on art so much longer that it comes first in my head. from 2015-2021 did almost nothing but make comics, which is def a form of writing in itself, but i only seem to think of myself as a writer when i'm working on prose. i'm so so glad i finally got back into it in 2021!!! (and honestly i've felt so rusty at it that every single thing i made was 10x better than the last, and it's only since mon cheri that i finally feel like i've peaked to a steady level of quality. i'll probably change my mind about that in a year when i look back at my current fics lmao)

but fun fact! i've been writing and drawing just as long as each other. my dream job in kindergarten was to write novels and illustrate pictures for them. i've drawn since as long as i could hold a pen, but i also remember pencil writing a fan fic about my world of warcraft character when i was 9 or 10, sending in "how does this story end?" submissions to Goosebumps competitions, and prose roleplaying on my own proboards forums with primary school friends.

Setsuna Trip is the first to come to mind. I really wanted that to be Ichika/Saki. I still like the Minori/Airi version but I dunno I just think it would've worked better for Leo/need, especially since the instrumentation felt more pronounced on the sekai arrangement.

Back when we were waiting for the final vbs archive I said I thought Toya and An should cover Hibikase, Haikei Doppelganger, or Fraulein=Bibliotheka, and I still agree with those, even if An/Toya don't get in-game covers.

I also think it would've been cool if WxS got to cover Buta ni Natte yeah yeah since it's kinda a followup to potato ni Natte iku? Also I like both those songs a lot so it's a bit self indulgent but I still think it would've been good.

Bad End Night or Vampire's Pathos would've been great as WxS covers too...

While I'm at it I'm gonna complain about the obnoxious amount of full unit covers we got last year. Here's some full unit covers from last year that I think should've been duets:

Shiroi Yuki no Princess wa - Honestly I love this cover but the line distribution is a bit messy and I think it would suit being a duet. Any MMJ duet could work imo and I hope we get duet alts at least. Maybe Shizuku/Minori or Haruka/Airi

Aa, Subarashiki Nyansei - whose fucking idea was it to make a duet into a quintet, and then on top of it not even try to keep the line distribution consistent with the roles. Again, don't really mind what pair and ik this is a ship-bait-y song but i'd rather have a wxs cover with good mixing and line distribution than a cover for a ship i like lmao

Kyu-kurarin - Shizuku/Haruka. It's a bit different from what they normally cover but their solo alts sounded really good.

Shinkai Shoujo - back in like. literally 2021 I said I wanted this as a Shizuku/Haruka duet and I'm never letting that go.

Envy Baby - Mizuki/Ena. This is just because I think their vocals are really good there's no actual reason for it. (I know this is from this year but shhhh the point still stands)

Like you really can't go in the tag for quality stuff lately. Everything is about sex. I'm not a prude. I read occasionally stuff, but omg, not everything has to be like this. Sometimes stories begin hopeful, but they end the same way. I'm just sick of it because it's all there is. And because it's so oversaturated, "normal" fics don't stand a chance because people don't click on that anymore. So yeah, as a creator, if I wanna get attention for my work, of course, I will produce stuff that people will read.

In general, people are sooo fixated on "spicy" content. On tiktok, all people read is smut, or they can't handle other stuff. Literally, smut destroyed their brains. How is it any different than guys having a porn addiction?

Also, the tumblr tagging and searching functions are shit. I wanna find new fics from like 2020 or 2021 (before s4 bc I miss those vibes). When you go to the popular tag thing, the earliest you get is 2022. Like tumblr needs to fix that, so content from years ago can still be found. People also need to start tagging accordingly. It's such a pain.

7. Kim Taehyung - He's got a nice-looking face. Like the Indian Brad Pitt, but he's Korean, which is somehow even better if you're into k-pop, apparently. I can tell on a cerebral level that he is handsome, but my heart doesn't know it... you know what I mean? His slim build is okay, but even he knows it can be better. I'm very interested in seeing what Taehyung looks like in 2025. I suspect he could go several levels up in my ranking, but we'll see.

6. Jeon Jungkook - The fact I'm ranking Jung Kook sixth should tell people the caliber of visual that is in BTS. All seven of them are mind numbingly hot. No cap. JK is ranked here because despite how hot he is, despite how peculiarly pretty he is, he is still the most baby-faced out of the guys. In my opinion.

5. Kim Seokjin - The shoulders give him several points I'm sorry. I mean, yeah his build is a bit lanky and he could fill out a bit more but still, the shoulders are wide af. I count it towards his overall visual and Jin does have a very Korean handsomeness to him. He's the sort of guy my grandma would want for me... and I know I'm not the only person from my background who has thought so.

4. Kim Namjoon - Joon has the prettiest eyes in BTS. Maybe Jimin ties with him, but Joon's dragon eyes are definitely ranked first in any case. He's worked on his physique too in recent years which has bumped him up my list. I wish he was more coordinated in his motor skills, but he's still pretty decent.

3. Jung Hoseok - Hobi is such a dreamboat. He's lanky but it works for him. The way Tyler Joseph's does for him. But even better than that, J-Hope has stamina. This man is fit. And he is beautiful. Definitively masculine but so delicately pretty. Like y'all don't know what platinum blonde Hobi did to me in 2021. This man is hot and capable and that is a very dangerous combination take it from me.

2. Min Yoongi - Nobody is surprised. I don't even know what to say because I actually bias him. Like I just typed his name out and had to pause to take a breath. I'm keeping it real with y'all rn. I'm that gone. I like that he's a bulldog the whole fandom sees as a cat because that's what he is. I love the music he makes. The way he mixes bass and toplines in all his tracks is incredible. Like, all the lyrics to the chorus of Beyonce's EGO, apply to Yoongi in spades.

Park Jimin - I've said before, he could seem gamine + serpentine + feline + cute all at the same time. It's just fun looking at a face capable of showing so much at once. It's fun looking at Jimin. That's the sort of visual he has. His face is interesting. It is odd in the most benign ways. And by that I mean, most people typically have one definitive facial feature, one that stands out, like a strong browbone, high cheekbones, etc. Really pretty people have maybe two, three tops. For Jimin, his entire face is constructed from distinctive features. I don't want to completely objectify the man by spelling it out for you but Jimin is ridiculously beautiful.

It's just facts.

Jimin has looks. You know what I mean? Jimin has looks where he accentuates certain things. My favourite Jimin looks are some when he looks serpentine, a bit like a snake. Like this:

(The first time I saw this photoshoot I remember I thought, "this is the look of a guy who will go there if there's need to." It's never made sense to underestimate him.)

I'm not sure it needs to be said but I also like his physique the best, whether it's leaner or bigger. Whatever weight he has he carries it well, he moves easily and that certainly adds to his visual. Jungkook too has recently mastered moving through space with ease, I hope what I mean can be communicated, but what I'm trying to say is: a very easy motion with no wasted movements. Anyway, Jimin is best at this, and maybe at a sub-conscious level it adds to his visual for me.

Okay, so.

Just to like, explain this a little more, timeline wise:

Best friend (lets call him Taylor because thats easier, and thats his characters name in my book) was friends with Alba circa 2017-2018 ish (I don't know exactly how long, I know they spent NYE 2017/2018 together but he didn't go into specifics when they stopped being friends)

At some point, she drops her friend group pretty suddenly and they all stop talking

Then, I meet Taylor in 2020. We become best friends.

In January of 2021, my obsession with Chris and his movies start. Watching all his shit, writing books, starting this blog etc. Taylor thinks I'm cute but also a weirdo about it, but he's very supportive.

AN ENTIRE YEAR goes by. I start writing a book about Chris having a secret relationship in summer of 2021 (im including this bc its such a funny coincidence lmao)

In January of 2022, rumors start to circulate about Chris and his supposed knew flame (Alba). I look into her and thinks she looks like a child, and I figure it can't be real (I still had high hopes for Chris back then) or that it wouldn't last anyway.

Cut to, spring of 2022. Rumors still flying. I'm hanging out with Taylor one night, and casually mention theres this rumor that Chris is dating someone but I'm grossed out because she's so much younger and looks even younger than she is. I google her, show Taylor a picture, and he exclaims "HE'S DATING ALBA?!"

That's when I go, "you know her?!" and he proceeds to bring up videos and photos of him and her together (note: Taylor and Alba together) from 2017/2018 ish and tells me about how they were friends, blablabla.

In summer of 2022, he goes to New York for work, hangs out with some old friends. Comes back around mid-august ish and tells me he met up with an old friend who used to be in his and Alba's circle (Taylor and Alba's, back in 2018 time) who told him that Alba had been flying back and forth A LOT (note: SHE had been flying) and that he believed they were definitely together. I didn't believe him.

Then article, papwalk. All hell breaks loose. He's like "Told you."

THEN the videos from the papwalk come out. I start doubting things again. THEN the nude vid. That's when I bring it up to Taylor again.

He then says to me that he thinks the papwalk and subsequent vids are weird as fuck, and says he thinks I might be right about the PR aspect, but he also says that it's WAY more common than we think in HW (he could tell you some stories, y'all. You guys would loose it).

He ALSO said the nude vid was "smart of her" because she didn't show anything more than what you would show in a movie and this way she can "shut us up about her looking like a child." He did find it odd she deactivated though. He said it was 100% on purpose (this is coming from a man who actually knows her, so keep that in mind)

That's it, that's the timeline.

For those of you asking, I haven't heard about Joana or Justin from him, but I also haven't asked. I might do that one of these days, see if he ever met them back then.

I showed him the racism. He is a POC so he wasn't happy, but did point out that none of it was directly from Alba, but he was disappointed in her friends and said "they should know better, being in the industry." He also has only ever described her as very sweet.

Also for archival purposes, as most of my time this year was spent drawing the human figure: here are my first ever life figure drawings vs. the same model drawn in the same time in December. Many times this year I thought I didn’t make any improvement (“life drawing will never help me improve my art!!” I thought) but in reality i was soooooooo bad at drawing the human figure 😬 lmao i mean look at this!!

Anyway!! This year has been really full-on :0 The only goal I set for myself in 2022 was to develop a healthy relationship with art, even though I had no idea what that was going to look like. I’m really proud to say that I’ve achieved it well beyond what I thought I could do. Though I still have some bad days, I’m able to navigate them a lot better than I could last year.

More ramblings below cut, but I’m immensely grateful for the kindness and support I still get even though I don’t update as much as I used to. I still have a lot of stuff to study next year, but I’d like to put more time into personal work and participate in fandom events. Art is ultimately about human ideas and emotions, and I don’t want to lose sight of that.

And here are my art fundamentals/technical rambling:

Most of my time this year has gone into studying the fundamentals. I never studied the fundamentals or learned how to draw or learned to paint the right way, and I was surprised by how much I was able to improve my work by doing the exercises I always considered silly and irrelevant. After years of painful, incremental improvement, I am finally able to critically analyse my work and see what’s wrong with it, instead of using blanket statements like “my art sucks.” I would never say that to a fellow artist and I now know I cannot say that to myself either. Nobody deserves to hear that sort of stuff, and it never did me any favours. I’m leaving my self hatred behind in 2021 forever.

2022 is the first year that I had significant improvement in my work. Asides from studying, I think it’s because I finally got mentorship for my work. It’s not cheap for me... but it was absolutely worth every single dollar I spent on it. I appreciate my mentors more than anything else that has happened in my art learning journey and I deeply wish I had them in my life sooner.

This year I also started to go to life drawing. To be honest, most days I don’t feel that life drawing/studying anatomy helped me improve at all. Then I look at my old work and realise yes... yes I did. I was really, really bad at drawing the human figure. Some of my old work from last year (and even this year!) hurts me to look at. So tonight I’m celebrating my wins. I made big improvements, despite everything. And I’m finally at peace with myself. It’s still an uphill battle from here, but I’m hoping it will be just a tiny bit easier next year.
