Summoner AU question: What's the definition of Maneater? Like, some monsters will eat humans if possible, price aside, but does it also include monsters whose prices are some part of a human, but otherwise, would rather not?

by the Summoner Guild’s definition, a Maneater is “any monster that is a carnivore or omnivore that, as a species, shows a distinct inclination for consuming human flesh”. more technically, any species where more than approximately 50% summoned show an inclination for eating humans.

so typically an otherwise non-humaneater that has a human-flesh price would not be considered a Maneater (though they would be considered Unfortunate); some might call them Coincidental Maneaters jokingly

see also: Potential Maneaters (monster species that show no clear inclination towards eating humans or not eating humans; depends on the individual. MOST MONSTERS FALL UNDER POTENTIAL MANEATERS.) any species that shows a 50% inclination or less would be considered this.

there’s also Obligate Maneaters, or species that literally NEED to get their protein from human flesh. 100% of the species eats humans, because they absolutely have to. Vampires and a few others would fall under this.

there are plenty of species that seem to show no inclination at all, though the Guild encourages summoners to never, ever, ever stop being on guard for a potential Incident. this is something that can largely depend on the individual, and it hasnt been unheard of that even the gentlest, most otherwise herbivorous monster just couldn’t resist when presented with an exceptionally easy opportunity.
