A little progress.
Tumblr media
I'm working on "Infraction." My precious baby, uh. This art is part of it in a way. Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape. When people are falling in love everything seems easy, but then life happen.
(I'd like to talk about how things are going with Infraction.)
I'm back on it since couple of weeks and working on it is intense (my brain is literally boiling). I don't think I ever planned a story for that long. The first idea has born 6th January this year. I was writing down (like crazy) everything I wanted to be in this fic. During first months it was chaotic and messy, but brought me so much joy. When I've had everything that (I thought) I needed, I wrote first chapters, yeah. And then shared them, because was so excited about all of it and just couldn't wait. Gosh.
Now I... hm... well, maybe not "regret" it, but I think, I totally should have wait. Why is that? First thing first, this story is not ready yet for being written in, you know, final version. It's too fat, lol.
I may want too much from it. There is a lot, like, seriously, A LOT of things to cover. First notes took me around 80 pages and it had many gaps in it (too much if you ask me). Things I needed to figure out and fill in, in the same time making everything work together. Because this Snarry is not sprinkled with crime. It's filled with murder, political shenanigans, family shiteshow and tough, not always appropriate, love. There are secrets and lies, blackmails and history that matter. Backstory of many people, whose actions over the years supposed to bring us to the point where we are now. And, you know, all of it gives me the thrill. First time in my life I feel like a true Puppet Master.
So, couple weeks ago I started to write a proper outline, if I can call it like that. To put everything in order and, going from the very beginning, to fill all the gaps. To answer all the questions I was asking myself in notes. To figure out the missing clues, some details without I couldn't go further and with that - to find out how characters will change facing new situations. How they will grow (I really love this part). Sometimes I think, "why am I even doing it?" I could just write some cosy, little fic where Harry and Severus' silly problems would be the main goal of the story. Like, focusing on them should be enough, right? Why am I going for all the other things, if I just want them to shag and have their happy end after all? 😂
Well, if it's not for fun, I don't know the other reason. The level of excitement is just incredible. I don't know, if what I'm writing is good or bad. If it really has sense, because I've always seen myself rather as a potato, not as a great mastermind who can plot some good shite, you know. That said, "Infraction" feels even more challenging that I ever thought it will be. But I feel deep inside that I can do it. Going step by step where the main plan leads and... it just feels good.
I've started in October 1989. Now I'm in January 2011. It means that I managed to finish everything that happen before the fic starts, lol. And, actually, I almost covered the first part of the book. So, two more to go? Hehe. It'll take time, yes. It's crazy how much I want to continue writing the main chapters, not only swim in the plan-phase. Drawing the series of "Muggle London" art helped me a lot with easing this itch. However, it's still there. I know, though, that I have to finish it. The whole outline, I mean. Without it, things can go south.
That said, I can't tell how long it will take. Couple weeks? Maybe months. This is really... a lot of work and I want to be proud of it. Even more so, because this fic means a lot to me. I know it may not be, you know, mind blowing or something. But I hope that giving it all my love, it could be, you know, not that bad for reading, hehe.

Syd Barrett with a hand-painted painting, 1964
Tumblr media
"THE BEE KING" AND SID'S LETTER
In December 1964, 18-year-old Barrett wrote an illustrated letter to his girlfriend Jenny Spires, telling about the first sound session of the future Floyd's. The demo recordings were made in a small London studio with an eye to signing a contract with a major record label. At that moment, the band was influenced by the "rolling stones" and Bo Diddley, this can be heard both in their own stuff and in the cover version of I'm a King Bee, which Sid mentions in the letter.
Tumblr media
Six tracks recorded between December 1964 and January 1965 were included in the mini-album 1965: Their First Recordings, officially released in 2015. And later they were included in the box set The Early Years 1965-1972. Floydomans are well aware of this. Since that time (especially in connection with the release of the mini-album), there have been a lot of posts with playlists on social networks.
Offers a translation of the letter, which is published in Barrett's book. The definitive visual companion to the life of Syd Barrett (2011), which also includes Barrett's artwork, photographs, and other letters. It was first unveiled at the Cambridge Gallery in an exhibition dedicated to it in 2008.
Tumblr media
Perhaps Sid is naive in this letter, and there is nothing of the great poet's rhetoric in the text, as, indeed, in his other epistolary archives. But in such modest sketches there is a breath of time and the magic of the authentic background of a single human everyday life, unadorned by historians and biographers. In addition, the epistolary syllable of Sid retains a share of stylistic melodiousness, and this also makes the written sample interesting. After all, Barrett's characteristic feature as a composer is that he "paints" a song with intonation, sounds, and syllables, as already mentioned in posts dedicated to Lucifer Sam and Arnold Layne.
Tumblr media
It can also be mentioned that Sid illustrated himself, Mason, Waters and Bob Close, who was the lead guitarist of the band at that time. Sid signed his letters and paintings with his real name "Roger".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Dear Jen, you are just lovely.
I'll tell you what happened during the recording. We dragged all the equipment into the studio, which was illuminated by a terrible white light and entangled with wires and microphones. Roger's amplifier was positioned behind a sound-absorbing screen, and Nicky was also "shielded". After a short conversation, we checked everything on the balance and wrote down five numbers more or less at once. However, only guitars and drums. We're going to add vocals, piano, etc. next Wednesday. The tracks sound awesome so far, especially King Bee.
When I sing, I have to stand in the middle of the studio with headphones on, and everyone else is watching from another room. I can't see them at all, but they can all see me. Also, I can only hear what I sing myself.
I hope you got home well, Jen, and had a good time. You couldn't have come to the recording. And anyway, it all lasted until midnight and it would have been a terrible burden for you.
How pleasant all these tra-la-la are (don't worry about distracting).
Do whatever you want, Jen. I love you very much and I want to hear from you, and you are very beautiful.
I'm a little tired of everything today, and I want to be in Cambridge or Greece, but not in London, where all I do is spend money and go back and forth. But the sun is still shining.
With love. Roger."

In case someone missed the Floyd's mini-album with those demo songs mentioned in the post, you can listen to it, for example (there is a song layout in the description, and to watch it, you need to go directly to the channel):

Unknown - Review
An adaptation that worked better for me than the source work, to an extent.
Priest is a highly regarded danmei author. When I discovered the author through fans, I really wanted to partake in all that awesomeness too. But time and time again, Priest’s writing style failed to resonate with me. I could never immerse myself in any of her works, truly get into them, be moved by characters and their action. Nothing Priest ever wrote seem to impact me. I always felt like I was at bus stop waiting for a bus that would take me to a destination that everyone else seemed to be able to reach and praise so highly about. I would board every bus that said it would take me to my destination but somehow, I couldn’t reach there.
When live-action adaptations came out, I chased them, in multiple languages (I tried Mandarin, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam in that order; Indian language dubs can be found on MX player). But then even Malayalam dubbed version of Word of Honor was a chore and I gave up.
When I heard of Unknown based on 大哥 (da ge; Big Brother) (a work I found reprehensible at certain points due to pretty normalized racial and heterosexist psychological depictions) I had no interest in checking it out. Things couldn’t be so simple. I heard Huang HongXuan (Kurt) was going be in it. Now, I must watch it for he had rizz in spades in VIP Only and I wanted more of that. (Spoiler alert – I think the Unknown by focusing on Wei Qian missed out on cashing that sweet charisma except for glimpses of it in the last few episodes.)
That’s how I ended up watching Unknown in the first place. It is safe to say I am glad I did. I never thought Da Ge will become something like this. I am impressed by the meticulous cultivation that source material underwent. That little carp really crossed the gate to become a dragon.
Da Ge is a popular and critically-acclaimed work. IMHO, it was for most parts a classist, 金手指 (golden finger) plot with half-baked versions of then popular danmei tropes. For context (I don’t want to say comparison), 弟弟 (didi; younger brother) by 人体骨架 came out in 2011, two years before Da Ge. In BL, newer don’t necessarily mean better.
What Unknown managed to do was tone down the golden finger bits and keep things realistic to an extent.
Wei Qian got the funds he dearly needed not from killing and snitching on gangsters but from gang-boss Le ge who was Dr. Lin’s senior. Le ge defied some gang codes and sorta wronged his own underlings to that the plot can turn in favor of Wei Qian. The whole triad bit was decent enough that I didn’t mind the snitching part much – I chose to ignore it.
Removed three female characters who were there for man-pain purposes in the novel. Instead gave Wei Lili, pavam xiao baobao, time to shine.
Did not airlift Wei Qian into the waiting arms of a benefactor with sufficient connections in Mainland who would rescind everything in grief, right when Wei Qian could take over and reign. Instead, Unknown let Wei Qian build a company with San Pang and Lao Xiong which fits right into Taiwan’s SME-heavy capitalism.
Didn’t include anything that I found reprehensible in the novel.
Gave relatively explicit intimate scene.
Toned down novel Wei Qian’s Valliettan-aura to build a warmer, more sensible relationship between the Wei siblings.
Made passing mentions of novel events, in ways that was more connected and believable.
Didn’t make villains into caricatures who loose brain cells to benefit Wei Qian. Instead fleshed out Le ge and his relationship with both his underling and his junior. Made him interesting.
Got us a character with blacked out tattoos. I have listed this one at the last but this is the best thing about Unknown for me. Here’s why…
While organized crime is a popular setting in BL, it is rare for BL characters to have visible evidences of their criminal pasts after leaving it for a civilian life. Usually, they either hide it with full-sleeves and what-nots. But here’s a character in a BL with blacked out tattoos trying to make a living through street-vending. Tattoos are customary, ceremonial and meaningful in the context of organized crime, triad in this case. While involved in the triad, tattoos signal trust and loyalty, etched into skin. But it is a burden too. It is part of the cage that leaves no way out. As Le ge’s underling emphasizes, it is not easy to get away having once involved oneself with the triad. Moreover, the tattoos evoke fear among civilians – so ex-gangsters can forget prospects of finding jobs. Even if one is to be self-employed, tattoos doesn’t signal anything good and are effective in scaring customers away. In Unknown, the blacked-out tattoos signal a dark past he has shut door to; all symbolisms that meant something in the context of triad has been wiped out by ink.
There are points where I felt Unknown was rush through the plot, some others which I felt drag. But overall, it was a good BL and a surprisingly enjoyable adaptation of a source novel I didn’t enjoy at all.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED PROMPTS *  assorted dialogue from the 2011 film
i'm warning you. if you take one step closer, i'm never letting you go.
so what's up with not calling me back?
it's perfect. will you read it for me?
did you think we had sex? we did not have sex!
i know it's over.
are you having sex?
that is a terrible, self-destructive plan, and i'm behind you a hundred percent.
when we met, you weren't wearing pants.
can we not tell everyone?
how long have you two been together?
what i need is someone who's gonna be in my bed at 2AM who i don't have to lie to or eat breakfast with.
yup, i'm definitely gay.
look, i'm not really an affectionate person.
go on a date with me.
you are such an overachiever.
look at my face.
we're sex friends. friends with benefits. fuck buddies.
i can't keep doing this. i'm not gonna see you again.
look, i know i'm supposed to want to be in a relationship, but i just end up with a broken heart and a bunch of their old t-shirts.
if we were in a relationship, i would become a weird scary version of myself. my throat starts constricting. the walls start throbbing. it's like a peanut allergy, like an emotional peanut allergy.
hey, someone call charlie brown! we found the great pumpkin!
don't make fun of me!
i'm gonna call everyone in my phone until someone agrees to have sex with me.
i'm pretty good at archery.
let's smoke some weed.
i sprained my wrist punching a wall.
i'm not good at this stuff.
the box of fifty donut holes is $5.79. you're gonna need two boxes.
we fell asleep and we were spooning.
try to stay away from women who want to fuck you.
that was really mean.
don't do that. don't just disappear like that on me.
how much money do you have on you?
do you wanna do this?
well, i can't date you either.
you're very talented, but fuck you!
i guess i wanted to hear your voice.
i want you to know that i respect you.
you shouldn't listen to me.
thank you for what you did back at the restaurant.
do you want to get out of here?
it's not really possible.
you left your socks in my room.
if you're lucky, you're never gonna see me again.
congrats? for what? having sex with you?
i'm so sorry. i love you.
hey, you can't call me and tell me that you miss me.
if you really miss me, you need to grow up and get in your car and come and see me.
people aren't meant to be together forever.
i don't want to freak you out, but i'd love to hang out with you in the daytime sometime.
i thought you just said it.
i'm going to start peeing with the door open. it's going to get weird.
i can't focus on my porn with all this real sex going on around me!
i don't want to have that conversation on the phone.
we don't get to pick who we fall in love with, and it doesn't happen like it should.
we didn't break up. we never started.
you did a good job, so i thought you deserved a balloon.
you make my heart skip a beat.
yeah, i could do that.
can i say something? and don't take this the wrong way because you know i'll be your friend no matter what.
okay, where's that?
oh, by the way, it's the best sex of my life.
are you still there?
i made you a valentine's day card.
i'm assuming that's a good thing.
things were getting too intense so we decided not to see each other until we hook up with other people.
that's really sweet.
you always do this. you always find something wrong with everybody who likes you.
we were spooning with our clothes on which is like. ten times worse.
we are getting laid tonight!
is this about me not having a date?
god, i am single as fuck.
i understand what's going on.
you have to come with me.
i can't stop thinking about them.
this isn't really my place.
i'm telling you to be hurt. i can take it. the world can take it.
sometimes my neck gets sore because my brain is so big.
get in your car and drive away.
i know this is random. i just... um. i miss you. i miss you so much.
i don't know what to say.
you're fucking my ex-girlfriend?
i'm not gonna meet your parents.
don't list me as your emergency contact. i won't come.
you know i worry about you sometimes.
i think monogamy goes against our basic biology.
i just worked fourteen hours.
no one threw up on me today.
that was such a fail on my part.
if i catch you taking pictures of your dick one more time, i'm taking that thing away.
watch and learn.
you want to go with me to this stupid thing?
did i just pass out on your couch?
did you look at it?
oh my god, i love you so much.

Rummaging through my old room I find this, a traditional flip note of Pantufa the Cat from 2011 or earlier, with rusty staples and, according to the numbers on the corner, missing frames.
For detailed ramblings of hidden memories this unlocked, click for more
I've always wanted to be an animator and, while I didn’t have the software or hardware for digital animation, I wanted to practice is as much as I could. This was the best I could put together at the age of 16.
I would do small scale animations at the edges of notebooks or draft ideas in comic form with notes before I knew what a Storyboard was. Back then I didn't even have a stable internet connection in the first place, this was around the time I had to share a PC with my older brother who would kick me out at any opportunity and hog the PC for the entire day, only letting me on at the last minute, where I would get an earful from my parents and be told to go to bed, it was a nightmare to do anything digitally...
The first drawing tablet I got was considered scrap the moment I got it for Christmas. No screen, wobbly inaccurate pen (can't draw a straight line without it looking like lightning), Silvercrest branded (basically, LIDL), it was as cheap as it could be but it was my introduction to "not using the mouse to draw" which it did not help with as even today revisiting it makes me want to draw with a mouse more.
Tumblr media
Things were very strict and if something did what it needed to do, it didn't need to be replaced. "That's what I had been taught"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" was the motto for my family and that mentality stuck to me even to the present day. I still find myself using MSPaint for Pixelart or drawings, as spending for anything greater is hardwired in my brain as "unnecessary" or "wasteful", hell, I wasn't even allowed to spend money outside of school purchases such as at the cafeteria (they had a kickass card charging system which made the school I attended in Germany around 2016-2019 look medieval in comparison which is incredible since Portugal isn't the first thing you think of when it comes to technological advancements), so any money I would get for Christmas or birthdays was practically useless and I never learned to manage income. I would sometimes find my mom take the money off my piggy bank for groceries and other goods when she was running low, she didn't try to lie, she had no reason to.
Anything I can get for free is what I stick by and I'll only spend money if I absolutely have to or, more recently, if it benefited close friends in any way, as I've learned to have no regard for my own well being and should be ashamed for even considering it, others always take priority.
So when it comes to animation today, I have a "yar har" version of Toon Boom Studio 8.0 for bigger things (I've tried OpenToonz but it's very crash happy and I've lost hours of animation with it even with the backup and auto save features on, back in the day I had a a copy of Flash CS4 I grabbed from the school computers that I got to work after some tinkering and a well placed crack) and for Pixelart I just use Windows XP's MSPaint and abuse scroll-wheel and window resizing shenanigans to advance frames. I don't get much time to practice animation and I get easily excited to have a chance at it.
I'm under my own mental shackles at all times and that's not going to change, only further cemented by the elitist mindset the Sonic Hacking community and SRB2 had taught me, a mindset I regret adopting and one I catch myself going back to and feeling ashamed of every now and then, leading only to depressive episodes that are best left for a psychologist to deal with... should I ever find the opportunity to seek one without time and language barrier issues.
As the years go by and I find myself doing or just refining Pixelart than to do animated pieces, I've given up hope in being an animator in the foreseeable future, only dedicating animation to those done in private between friends, never allowing myself to clean up or refining it in any meaningful way unless asked for because I shouldn't. It's why I tend to ask for suggestions or characters to add for animations I plan to do, cause I don't want it to be for me, I want it to be for those I can make happy to see it.
---
Before I hit "Post", a reminder that there are people much worse off than I am, these are just memories and 1st world problems and should be nobody's priority. Please support growing young artists and animators, they need it more than some washed up wanna-be animator that is known for nothing else but basic Sonic ROM hacks disguised to look impressive via a coat of MSPaint.

Omg, the way that I have been a fan of Loki since TDW, and then even R*gnar*k I enjoyed at first solely because it was new content after years of waiting for more of the characters. After the hype went down for it being new content I began to see the flaws and it made me sad to see what the characters were reduced to. And then when the Loki series was announced I was so excited about it, Avengers era Loki and all, I thought we were going to get him acting like how he did in TDW or a mix of that and the first Avengers but no. And the fact that I had a hyperfication of Loki for years to the point that my entire family + friends were aware of it, only for it to be pretty much squaahed by the series, which I didn't even finish s1 and only watched 1 scene from s2 cause my brother was watching it and I was walking past him in the living room. It just makes me so sad because I still love Loki but I love his version from 2011-2013. I mean he was more Loki in the surprise Comic-Con thing TH did than he ever was in a series supposedly about his character, but it is not about him at all. Sorry for rambling, I just needed to let this off of my chest. Thank you for being a safe space for people to talk about 2011-2013 Loki era. How I miss the complexoty of his character and his costumes too + TH's more subtle acting work as the character.
Hey there! No need to apologise, I absolutely love that you took the time to write all that. I am forever grateful people see my blog as a safe space 🖤💚
I know exactly how you feel. When r*gnar*k came out, I had hope when the movie started but left the cinema with such mixed feelings. On one hand, it was new content, but on the other, it was SO out of character. It made me ask myself 'is getting crumbs of what I cherished worth it, when it is followed by utter disrespect?' And my answer was clear. They blew up Asgard for shock value, when it had enourmous potential. I get that ragnarök is supposed to be the end of everything, but the way they executed it felt so wrong and ungrateful to the story.
For that reason, for the disappointment I felt, I didn't think the series would be worth a watch. I didn't think I'd watch it but I gave the first season a shot this year and didn't even finish it because I was actually disgusted. I wish disney/marvel would just delete it at this point. Like a bad sketch that you crumble up and throw away. Act like it never happened.
We have this saying in Slovak that goes along the lines of 'stop when it's at its best' and I feel like that applies perfectly in this case. The 2011-2013 trilogy was the peak. It will forever be the only story I will accept from them.
Anyways, I hope you have a great day/night wherever you are. Stay away from the series, they don't deserve the access to the story. It's not theirs anymore. They are writing a poor fanfic.

DC: the very basics
@athenov trust me there are a lot of dc comics and a lot of reading lists but the list i tagged you on seems to be pretty basic and decent afaik! i trust @lornahs's lists a lot!
now, originally this was just for athenov but tbh it ended up so long that it might as well be a generic intro to dc post! it's very basic and slightly oriented to damian wayne (the character that I'm trying to get athenov into)
so, I usually crossreference multiple reading lists to get somewhere, so try crossreferencing that damian wayne one with this. as a general rule of thumb, tumblr usually knows better, but sites like the one linked aren't too bad.
another thing: dc works in phases. every few decades they have an event they call "crisis" (i. e. crisis on infinite earths, infinite crisis, flashpoint, etc, etc) and after that, they essentially reboot most or all of dc.
they might recreate character's back stories, they might change them depending on the author's preferences, they also tend to disregard events from before the crisis. this is a double edged sword. yes they can disregard stupid plotlines. but they have also historically ignored character development, character relationships, etc.
they have literally transplanted one character (Roy Harper) from X dude's close friend to Y dude's best friend, with no reason whatsoever other than not wanting to debute someone new. and mind you in the process of that, Roy lost so much character development!!! and naturally this happened during the new 52 ugh
anyways-- these reboots have specific names that we use to know what period of DC comics we're talking about. a pretty detailed explanation is here.
for brevity, I'll give you the very basics here and a more in-depth explanation below the cut.
Golden Age (1938-1956)
Silver Age & Bronze Age (1956-1985)
Modern Age (1986-2011) (very good, imo) (damian intro was here!)
New 52 (2011-2016) (bad!!! this fucked over more than just roy!)
Rebirth (2016-2018) (better but only sometimes)
DC Infinite Frontier (2021-2023)
Dawn of DC (2023-today)
essentially, you just run away from n52 and you'll be good. also dc wiki is your friend. feel free to ask me if you have any questions tho!! (and this stands not just for athenov! i consider myself relatively new to dc comics cause I've only been into comics for two or three years, after all, and some people are much more obsessed than I am. but I'll def try to help any of the new fans out as much as i can! even if that just means pointing you to another person that can answer your question)
so about the more detailed version of those periods!
we've got golden age, silver age, bronze age. these are old. golden age started during the 1940s. bronze age ended in 1985. I tend to not read anything before 1985 because they're all over the place usually. the themes are also weird cause the comics are old.
then crisis on infinite earths happened and rebooted everything to make things less ambiguous. (until this crisis, if you didn't like the way, say, superman handled things in this issue, you'd just ignore that and go against it and it'd be passed on like a superman from another earth than the other superman. the multiverse was very useful for dc of golden-silver-bronze era. continuity was a hit or miss, at best)
then we have modern age until 2011. this era is the one I usually operate on! many of my favorite characters got some very good runs during this time. damian wayne also debuted in this era with batman #655, which was issued in 2006, according to google.
anyways stan the modern age!
and now things get weird again. the problem with crisis on infinite earths is that it solved some problems but also created new ones. some other crisis events happened to try to fix them but it didn't exactly work out and then we got flashpoint to reboot dc again.
the next reboot is called "new 52" because dc canceled everything and started 52 new titles that could theoretically easily introduce people to these characters. unfortunately, they butchered a lot of characters during this arc, narratively and a esthetically. my own favs have suffered from the new 52. generally, it's not a good era for dc. it was only around for like 5ish years (2011-2016) before DC had to do another crisis and reboot so that tells you how bad things were. (considering the fact that modern age lasted 25 years, this is just sad yknow)
the new era is called rebirth (2016-2018). they basically picked up the stories from modern age and ignored new 52 for the most part, which is iconic. there was another brief era after this to clear up some confusions and restore some memories from modern age that the new 52 had disregarded but all in all things are decent, especially compared to the new 52. admittedly, I haven't read a lot of stuff from after modern age, so take this with a grain of salt.
a few other things happened, like infinite frontier. I don't know anything about it tbh. something weird happened with time and space. this era is a big crisis event essentially, from what i can tell? do we even count it as an era? idfk. I'd say no but the site I linked waayyy above considered it an era so I'll do the same so as to not confuse anyone.
and then there's the dawn of dc, which started like last year or sth, so I got nothing for you about it.

since this video essay (and it is an essay, i have cited sources! i have academic articles! get on my level youtubers!) is going to take a long time to make (i'm hoping to get it done in two weeks but we'll see...) and probably not enough of you will give a fuck about or have the time to fully watch what will most likely be upwards of an hour of content, here is a list of some things from the book wuthering heights i wish more adaptations would include:
since a lot of these adaptations ignore the Lockwood-Nelly storytelling framing device, we miss out on seeing a lot of Heathcliff's character as he is in the present, namely, what fascinates me is that while Lockwood is ill, Heathcliff not only sends him the last grouse of the season, but also visited Thrushcross Grange to sit at his bedside and talk to him
Catherine and Heathcliff actually trying to reckon with the abuse they face (it's a rare sight to see the abuse they face taken seriously on screen, see my prev meta post about their visit to Thrushcross Grange)
actual age appropriate castings. when you remember that a good third of this book, where a lot of the most famous stuff happens (the, he's more myself than i am, the i curse you to never rest while i still live, etc) is when these characters are all in their late teens and early 20s...yeah that makes a lot more sense now doesn't it?
on that note, stop casting Nelly as a woman in her late 50s/early 60s, she's literally the same age as Hindley and at her oldest is no older than like 42.
the fact that Nelly's storytelling is extremely biased--she does not like Catherine and thinks her a bad person, and she doesn't like Heathcliff either. how much of this is real? literally the things i would give to see a version of wuthering heights that explores what might be real and what isn't...
to compound on that, i want a version that actually shows the small little interludes where Nelly stops telling Lockwood the story and says something about the present day!!! GIVE ME THE NELLY FRAMING DEVICE!!! WHY WOULD THE 1992 MOVIE CREATE A FAKE EMILY BRONTE FRAMING DEVICE WHEN THERE'S ALR-
When Heathcliff is visiting the grange on the day that Catherine is mean to Isabella and making fun of her for having a crush on Heathcliff, after Catherine tells Heathcliff Isabella is the heir to the Grange, whenever Catherine leaves the room, according to Nelly Heathcliff is just sitting there plotting and smiling to himself
When Edgar hears Catherine and Heathcliff fighting in the kitchen (ugh god the kitchen fight), while Catherine is still ranting at Heathcliff, she doesn't notice Edgar come into the room but Heathcliff does, to which he does an immediate "shut the fuck up" sort of motion and she immediately does shut the fuck up
WITH THAT, something that gets lost in the sauce all the time (due to too many screenwriters and directors playing up the "romance" between these two) is Heathcliff and Catherine teaming up constantly, even in the later years of their relationship. The more "casual" elements of their relationship get lost. For example, while in that same fight in the kitchen, Catherine and Heathcliff both make fun of Edgar for being a pussy and that's hilarious! Because despite the strife that's going on between Heathcliff and Catherine, they are still on the same page and still feel united against that stupid rich pompous idiot they've been making fun of since they were teens.
The fact that these characters are products of their environment is something that no filmmaker (except maybe Andrea Arnold in the 2011 version) really grapples with to any extent
Most of the movies either miss or downplay or rush the scene where Hindley is planning to shoot Heathcliff one night, and Isabella goes to the window to warn him, literally saying "You better seek shelter somewhere else tonight! Mr. Earnshaw has a mind to shoot you!" (after saying that Heathcliff "ought to stretch [himself] over [Catherine's] grave and die like a dog") and Heathcliff is like "open the door you stupid bitch!" (not a direct quote but might as well be) and Isabella is like "oh! okay! come in and get shot then if you please, I've done my duty!" and leaves him out there to break the door down on his own. Wuthering Heights is a comedy and they don't tell you this. It's one of Isabella's best moments and we rarely see it, along with her second best moment, her throwing her wedding ring from Heathcliff in the fire
More adaptations need to have Heathcliff pulling out the actual physical almanac page he's kept with days marking when Catherine hangs out with the Lintons vs hanging out with him

Since this is having a resurgence kinda,
Reblog for a larger sample-size or something? Or not. Your call!
Context for each below.
Back in, like, 2016 or something, the Secondary School I was at did lifeguard training as part of its PE curriculum; one of the activities involved was rescuing a hollow plastic dummy. When it was my turn, I grabbed it, but it suddenly filled with water, and I was suddenly dragged to the bottom of the pool; eventually I managed to let go of it, and I was allowed to sit on one of the benches next to the pool for the rest of the session.
Last year, around Halloween, my dad randomly phoned me up and asked if I wanted him to buy me an axe or scythe from the Halloween section of Tesco. I said I wanted a scythe, and he bought it; it was very plain, and consisted of a hollow plastic tube and a simple-looking, poorly-moulded blade that slid over the top. It eventually got pretty badly-damaged, and my brother - in a fit of sleep-deprived impulsiveness - secretly bought me a cooler, much higher-quality one (the blade is actually a skull wearing a mask with a long "beak" attached to it!)
Technically, I don't have all the Skylanders figures I got when I played, since at least one is still at the flat I used to live in, but otherwise I have all of them. Also I only had Giants, Swap Force and Trap Team; I missed out on playing Spyro's Adventure, and I only had a Wii at the time so I couldn't play most of the games after it (except for Superchargers Racing, which is literally just the racing minigame from the fifth game but released on its own).
Play Hard Reset. Do it do it now. It's short, kinda frustrating at times and has questionable writing and voice-acting, but the aesthetic is really cool and it has an interesting mechanic where the player only has two weapons, but can unlock different modes for them that effectively mean the player has ten. I haven't played much of Hard Reset Redux, but it seems to be the same, but balanced a bit better and with much better dialogue.
I got into ZScript late last year, but I've got pretty good at both the inheritence system and making original stuff (which is technically jus the same as using inheritence, but you have to define everything yourself.
I can't remember exactly when this happened, but it was around either Halloween or Christmas (since Nightmare Before Christmas was on TV) and possibly in 2018; I made myself a cup of tea, but didn't notice that the kettle had limescale remover put into it (aside from the colour being a bit off). When I started drinking it, I immediately spat it out, and since then it's been known in my family as A Thing I Did Once™.
I love Sea Power! They make good music! Check out Let The Dancers Inherit The Party, it is their best album in my opinion!
Yep, done this one. Haven't finished Quake 1's second expansion and I'm only on, like, map 2 of Quake II, but I've played all of Quake IV's story campaign. Also, if it counts, Quake III's "singleplayer campaign", which is just a series of increasingly-difficult bot matches.
When I got Reaper one of the first things I recorded was a scream, which coincidentally ended up being a scarily-good impression of the headless bombers from Serious Sam.
A while ago, I tried playing the Game Boy Advance version of Bionicle Heroes with an emulator, since I wanted to check it out; when I tried playing it with VBA, it crashed on the second screen, and while another emulator (namely No$GBA) allowed to, I had to make a DS4 controller-profile specifically for use with it, since it wasn't registering my inputs properly with my regular one. Eventually I just bought a Bionicle Heroes GBA cartridge online so I could play using my DS Lite.
Anyway here's the new scythe.

Transformers: Mosaic #578 - "Predator Vs Transformers Mosaic - I'll Kill You"
Originally posted on February 6th, 2011
Story - Wout Jut
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
wada sez: This is the first Mosaic strip from Wout Jut, who quickly became one of the more prolific writers on the project right through to its conclusion; several strips Jut intended for Mosaic would instead be published as part of the Transformers: Multiverse successor. Curiously, this strip was heavily abridged from a three-page series (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) first published by Jut back in August 2010; Jut posted the condensed version, now with Transformers: Mosaic branding, to his own deviantART in December 2010, ahead of its actual release to the wider Mosaic readership in February 2011. All the more curious, however, all but the very last of Jut’s Mosaic strips (including this one) are missing from the main project page on deviantART. This strip was extremely controversial, as the artwork was composited from existing Transformers and Predator comic panels—some viewed this as plagiarism, others as creative fair use. Jut responded to the criticism on Seibertron: “This was my very first try with the mosaic. I did this as a tribute (and I hadn't drawn in years) and I wanted to learn how it works to make a comicpage. It was al done with the good intention. But last month I give it a try by drawing myself, see [this piece].The second Mosaic was I will be a God that take place in the Shattered Glass Universe. Now it's december, and I've learned a lot. I've wrote several mosaics and found artists to do those. Soon two mosaics will come on the mosaic-deviantart about Elita One. The first drawn by Rui Onishi en the second by Koen Luyten. The artwork of both are great.” See below for the full, unabridged version of this story.

The list, Q1
When I completed my christmas calendar in December I made a list of (for me) new series I'd like to watch in 2024. This is what I've got so far:
Griselda
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
This was mine and my boyfriend's mutual project. We don't really have the same taste in series, but sometimes they overlap. Like, when it both have drugs, murders and Sofia Vergara. This one's really Sofia in her prime, she does an amazing job portraying the strong, targeted drug queen of Miami. Highly recommend!
------
Heartbreak High
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩🦩
This has come up as a sugestion for me for a long time, since it's in my absolute most common genre; teenage dramas with queer elements. That also comes with some high expectations when I finally get around to watch it. Heartbreak High mostly lives up to this, there's a lot of well developed characters and a story that reminds me a lot of Sex Education. I'm looking forward to how season 2 (drops April 11th) will develop the story. And yes, Quinni is the best!
------
The Unlisted
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩🦩
This was practically all my childhood nightmares come to life and I was so hooked by the ever thrilling story. I sat in angst cheering so hard for the kids to succeed with their mission. Looses one flamingo mostly because it ended with a cliffhanger and then got canceled.
------
One Day
(Netflix)
🦩🦩
First and foremost, I do have a big problem with these kind of stories. It concists of building up a lot of hope, just to tear it down by the end. I don't really see the fascination in that. But I did mostly like the movie from 2011 and therefore it felt obvious I should check this out. I really liked the production, the environments and the overall look of it. But I was not that impressed by the actors', more specifically the leads', performance. Big bonus for Essie Davis as Alison though, would love to see more of her.
------
Never have I ever
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩
This is also a series that's been lying around in my list, waiting to be seen, for a while. I can't say it entirely lived up to my expectations, but it definitely has its highlights and insights. I like the comedy-drama-mix, cultural representation and the adults. But I'm having trouble with a lot of Devi's personality and how they handle queer representation. From time to time I mostly found it a bit boring.
------
Everything now
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩🦩
This was HEAVY on so many levels, I had to watch this from time to time spread out over several weeks, mixed up with lighter stuff. But it was also SO good! Not having ED myself I can't say weither this was a good representation of it, but I really felt I got to be inside Mia's brain and understand anorexia a bit better. I liked how not everything was about that though, it was also just normal teenage life, because yeah, why shouldn't it? I also liked how everyone's sexuality was normalised.
------
My life with the Walter boys
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩
This was the kind of series that got me giggling, hiding behind a pillow several times. Not cringey, more like I really felt their feelings and cheered for them not to make bad decissions. It's a beutiful story and a bit like a teenage version of Chesapeake Shores meeting all Hallmark christmas movies. The queer representation leaves a lot to wish for. And I can't stop thinking about the fact that Jackie moves in to a family, directly sees some of them as siblings (Parker, for example) while she has no trouble falling in love with two others. Isn't that a bit...strange? What am I missing?
------
The White Lotus
(HBO)
🦩🦩🦩
My immidiate description of this series is; odd. It was not at all what I expected and I'm having trouble describing it at all. Is it good? Well, it's not bad..? There are definitely some amazing cast performances from i.e. Jennifer Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson, Leo Woodall (I actually found him to be better here than in One day), Murray Bartlett and Jake Lacy. The constant background music is mostly just annoying, but otherwise the sets and production is great.
------
Smiley
(Netflix)
🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩
Don't even know how to start here, because I was kind of floored by this. I binged it all in one night and I changed between crying and laughing the whole time. It's a wonderful, cute, well-written, queer love story set in the city of my dreams (Barcelona). The agonising feelings of falling in love are so relatable and so are the challenges meet by friends and family. This is a slow burn, opposites-attract story for when you just want to feel good. Bring tissues!
------
Other highlights and rewatches:
Young Royals season 3; one of the best last episodes ever, even caught the eye of my very hesitant boyfriend.
Modern Family; when the world's in shambles - go back to comfort.
Blown away season 4; who knew a reality show about glasblowing would be this thrilling? I've saved the finally for a rainy day.
Young Sheldon season 7; last season is droping one episode a week. I'll sure miss this!
Glamorous; I was very sad to find out this was cancelled, but a rewatch still makes me happy!
XO, Kitty; I'm getting more impatient to hear what's next, give me season 2 now!
But, the biggest thing dropping during these first months was obviously;
Heartstopper season 3 will drop in October!!🍂
See you in June for the next report!

I’m just gonna self proclaim myself as a Minecraft Boomer. I started playing in Early 2012 and I still prefer those versions compared to today’s versions.  Not that there’s anything wrong with what Minecraft is currently, its just more or less a different game compared to when I first watched and played it. The game is more Adventure game with Survival and Sandbox elements (when not including Creative mode) these days compared to 2012 when it was more, Sandbox game with Survival elements.  Heck I downloaded the BetaCraft launcher to play the 2011 and older versions to see how they were and I found that I enjoy the Pre 1.8 Beta (Beta 1.7.3 and older) versions more.  I liked the feeling of being alone in a strange world, there was no objective besides survive and build to your hearts content, you made your own. While you can still do those things today, it isn’t the same when there is a definite end and actual objectives for you todo.  The vibes that Modern Minecraft and Pre-Release Minecraft have are totally different and that... that’s fine. Its been a decade and while I do miss the vibe of the older MC I grew up with, modern MC is other people’s childhood now and people still enjoy it plenty, heck with all the stuff with it I’ve seen pretty large leaps in the modding community too. As of late the community that prefers Beta and Alpha have revived the modding community and new mods are being developed for those versions as well as finding and archiving mods from that era. I find it cool that MC is a game that caters to multiple communities and is enjoyable for a wide variety of people. It has a long history and while I no longer enjoy where Minecraft is headed, I’ll still be keeping an eye on it from time to time just to see where its headed next. This post went places but its what happens when I get going. In short, I’m a boomer that prefers older MC but can appreciate what modern MC does and is doing even if I don’t personally enjoy it anymore.

After like 10 failed runs, finally beat Side Order's main story, yay. Thoughts under the cut, tl;dr at the bottom.
Yeah, it's good. I really enjoy roguelites, I've been playing Binding of Isaac since it was released in 2011, 100%'d it and then immediately picked up Rebirth when it dropped and have a good 1000+ hours across different versions of it; if that says anything about my love of the genre and the style of game, I don't know what does.
My first immediate criticisms are "there's not enough variety in bosses, and there could be more stages", but that's really... it. I guess there could be more enemy types, since there's a lot of Octarians and Salmonids to get inspiration from, but I can see why they wouldn't want to overlap too hard with other game modes, and every enemy has to be kill-able by every weapon type. I'd love to see bosses from previous entries replicated here, though, even as just "corrupted memory" versions or something... we more or less got the Octowhirl back, so I'd love to see stuff like the Octomaws and Octo Oven come back in remixed flavors.
But that's about it for actual gameplay critique. The ability to customize your experience with hacks is really nice, it plays well into the gameplay loop and makes the game more accessible for people who don't like roguelite gameplay. I play it strictly with 1 life and no continues ever, so that keeps it spicy for me personally. The different palettes remind me of how different weapons work in Salmon Run: they change your priorities, approaches to challenges and general mode of play, and that's a really good thing.
The feeling of creating a good or wacky build, and then being able to crush situations where your build works, is definitely there. That's one of my favorite things about Isaac: the glee of putting together some really stupid items that together cause gamebreaking or at least very player-skewed situations, and Side Order does that perfectly. And even when you do dominate, there's still Danger conditions that can throw you for a loop, or you might struggle against xyz boss due to your palette.
So yeah, for $20? Pretty good gameplay experience. I'm not sure I enjoy it more than Octo Expansion's weird goofiness and stage design, but it has way more replayability overall. OE was a one-and-done for me, clear all the stages + story mode + Inner Agent 3 then go back to finish all the stages again with all the weapons. It was an incredible experience, but I can't see myself playing it a ton more outside of just revisiting the story and aesthetic/funky stage design. Side Order will have me coming back again and again until I've 100%'d it and gotten all the Prlz exchange items, though.
I think it's going to be hit-or-miss for people who enjoy one-and-done experiences vs. the roguelite experience, though. The grind and self-challenge and experimentation isn't for everyone, and they might feel disappointed once they finish a palette or two. But I'm enjoying it a ton.
As for story...
I'd put it at "structured better and more unified than Splat3 story mode, but weaker than Octo Expansion". It was a very nice follow-up to OE, it reminded us that there's living Sanitized Octarians + Octolings and went "hey, yeah, we can save these people actually" and that's really nice. It established more about Eight and their bond with Off the Hook, dug more into Marina's life and psyche and relationship with Pearl, and gave us more context about the Octarian Shogunate, all of that is great. Acht was a big surprise from the start, and getting to know them + their story was an absolute treat, even if I wish they had actually done more during the main story... I think that's excusable in-universe because they're still recovering and are injured until the end, but ehhhh. But character writing was great, we got a lot of small details and backstory that I enjoy a lot, and also they/them Acht yeaaahhhhhhhh
It wasn't the dark and political story that Octo Expansion was + left us wanting more of, but I think it's a mistake to compare Side Order to OE, really. It's impossible not to do, but you have to look at them independently, and for what Side Order set out to do, yeah, it's good. It's a short story mode focused on a few people and one of their big dreams to save people, tied into a roguelite mode; that's pretty different from the "underground conspiracies that tie into the big picture" main-story-mode-on-steroids Octo Expansion. I think that there could have been more elevator dialogue and lore tidbits, because you can tell the writers were having a lot of fun with that.
The visual design and its direction are fantastic. It really pushes a visual narrative of "coral reef bleaching from pollution" crossed with neurobiology imaging, it fits perfect with the antagonist's aims and the art+design team did a great job with that. The way things get creepier and more distorted the further up you get in the Spire is great! It's all very consistent and coherent and feels distinct from everything else in the series so far, so props.
And all the music, as usual, are fucking bangers, both for the instrumentals and tracks with vocals. I'm looking forward to snapping up the soundtrack for this one.
tl;dr
It's not perfect but I'm getting my money's worth of gameplay and having a lot of fun. The setting/visual themes are fantastic, the music is really good, the story is different than the norm but not bad and focuses a lot on character development.
Try not to compare the story and setting to Octo Expansion, because they're doing different things. If you have Splat3 already and enjoy roguelite gameplay + character lore (feat. the lesbians and a "new" friend!), I think it's worth the $20 pricetag, especially if you 100% it.

A’ight, help a baby clikkie out.
what are like. The top 5 essential tøp live performances/things I should see. (can be more than five idc)
combing through YouTube myself is hard, assume I’ve seen nothing but Icy. Gimme homework vids 💛 ERS intro blew my mind yesterday.
ok so this has taken me a while bc im trying to put together something comprehensive but not excessive. there this playlist that someone made that collects a ton of vessel (and a little rab) bts stuff so like tour diaries, interviews, etc. RAB the webseries is on there and RAB the webseries is rly fun if u like cute behind the scenes stuff. It's also the source of the sampled vocal on the hype, where u can hear tyler say "we're gonna rely pretty heavily on technology and energy to cover up for the fact that we're only two people." which i find cool
theres also a few tour recaps from BF era but my personal favorite is sleepers. they also did some for bandito tour.
Admittedly i dont watch a ton of interviews but the halloween one is very popular and gets referenced a lot. i also just rly like old interviews (second one is pre-josh and also has a live performance that i find rly charming)
and of course my whole thing is "guy with the excessively curated live playlists" so heres just a rundown of my favorite shows of theirs on youtube, why i like, why u shd watch (it got long, i italicized the ones i think are the most "important"):
Twenty One Pilots - Friend, Please Live @ The Battle Of The Bands 10-11-09 - as far as i know the only time theyve played it, this is the oldest video of them on youtube. this guys channel is a treasure trove for old videos.
Twenty one pilots- ode to sleep - that time they played in an apple store. total classic, i just chose ode to sleep bc its my favorite
Twenty One Pilots - Ode To Sleep Live @ The Newport Music Hall 5-27-11 - earliest show i have ever found with josh in the band! from that weird period after the og drummer left but the bassist was still there.
DRUM BATTLE: Twenty One Pilots - Groove Street Fest 2011 - 9.24.2011 - honestly i just have a personal fondness for this video. the idea that wd become the drum island, the guy in orange going ham, tyler drumming, them doing their own gear, its all very small band charming.
UG Studios session "Addict With A Pen" by Twenty One Pilots - in a word: iconic. a ridiculously emotional performance
Skeleton Bones Remain (Gunshot Intro) - twenty | one | pilots - literally just a 20 second intro but it is absolutely legendary. the british voice is named nigel he used to show up more, rip nigel (actually found a video of the intro going into OTS)
twenty one pilots: Heathens & Stressed Out (Live AMA Awards Performance 2016) - when they came out in those full face masks? iconic. twitter was blowing up, it was awesome.
twenty one pilots - Firefly Music Festival 2017 (Full Show) 1080p HD - this particular set is nothing special but its a festival set so its an hq multicam recording of a full set from blurryface era. it's got drumline josh, its got the crowdstand, its got the hamster ball, im pretty sure it has josh vs josh drum battle, all ur rly missing is the iconic (and dearly missed) old song medley, with the coolest B-stage design theyve ever had (yes cooler than bandito fight meeee)
Twenty One Pilots: Live at Lollapalooza Chicago 2019 (Full Show) - festival set for the hits but its trench now! bandito tour b-stage is also an essential tho. first leg they had the skybridge after that they walked thru the crowd.
My favorite shows that dont exist in one video are: vessel release show at basement. they played the whole record, secret show, very cool. and all of tour de columbus, which was when after BF they did a takeover tour style thing but just in columbus. I saw 2 of those and its my biggest flex to this day.
besides shows I wd also check out the MUTEMATH sessions (which i was blessed enough to see some of live! so badass!), this session where he did alt versions of some trench tunes (fought for my life to win tix. i did not win), also the video for the hype berlin is rly cute.
this got kinda lengthy with all the shows, i just love so many of them. I'd also seek out their snl performances if u feel like it, iirc they did ride, stressed out, and heathens, tyler did just the |-/ instead of the full paint on his hands it was sweet.
and to anyone else seeing this PLEASE add if theres anything u think i missed, any random events u remember that were cool, etc. most of what i remember is annoying twitter drama bc i was a teenager for BF

Eh, I want to stretch out bit from sonic with prime season 3 come out. And therefor I want to express my feelings with another franchise that I dearly missed so much.
So...
Don't mind me, just putting one of my fav scene, from Malaysian's kids show: Boboiboy 😘
Courtesy of: Monsta Channel (YouTube). English dub available on Netflix. Sub available on YouTube.
I cannot held my tears how far monsta team improved their animation from 2011 until now😭
Like bro I went back from hiatus of this franchise since 2014 and I meet with this?!
Holy- The voiceline, the 3D animation, the music, the effects, the movement and that details! It's soooooooo much better and mucn smoother!
I mean this is a quality from SEA! Not western or East Asian countries!
(btw this is a cut version just to show the fusion scene. The actual scene is longer than this).
For comparison, this is how they animated Boboiboy's first fight from the early generation of Boboiboy back in 2011:
(also fuck you Tumblr, I can't post more than 1 vid so I made it gif instead >:[. )
Tumblr media
(lol I miss these trio so much, why monsta? :')
Man, i need to recap myself like hooo boy marathon TV and comic book. It's been long time I did this intense marathon after Det. Conan😅
But I'm done and want to share my thoughts on the next post! 😄👍
