Astarion fondly chuckles when you shrink behind him, clinging to his back like a baby sloth. “Not a fan of the limelight, Beastie?”

You glare at him from beneath his cape. You try to mask the waver of your voice. “Shut your face. I just…I-I don’t like being harassed in public, alright? I’m…normal. I prefer being treated as such.”

Astarion snorts, waving off a few of your fans who’d clustered together to receive the famed Hero of Baldur’s Gate’s autograph. They reluctantly retreat, dejection etched onto their faces.

“Darling, you are anything but normal.”

You cut your eyes at your beloved, a warning swimming beneath your irises.

“But I suppose I can empathize with your plight. I don’t necessarily like all the attention, either.” Astarion examines his nails, boredom taking root amongst his features. Though, he can’t mask the subtle quirk of his lips at having you so close. “You can’t use me as a shield whenever we go out in public forever, my love. Eventually, you’ll have to face this.”

You scoff. Leave it to Astarion to pester you into being mature. The very opposite of maturity telling you to grow a pair. The gall. “Isn’t that what I pay you for?”

Astarion feigns hurt, sputtering with a dramatic hand held over his heart. “You pay me?”

You giggle, your arms winding about Astarion’s middle as you toddle along the moonlit street behind him. You absently nuzzle against his back, inhaling the bewitching scent of bergamot and rosemary he carries with him.

“I pay you with unconditional love, cuddles, and blood. Though, you’ve been a shit bodyguard as of late. I might have to fire you.”

“Fiiine,” he haughtily counters. Mischief tinges his voice. “I’m sure this city is just teeming with people in need of my full portfolio of services, if you catch my drift.”

You pinch his side, dragging an indignant but amused sound from his throat. “Watch it, pretty boy.”

Astarion laughs, holding your arms tight around him, shepherding you to the night market you’d been dying to see. And he’s sure to stave off anyone else trying to get your autograph with bared fangs.
