it’s crazy how much hannibal suits canon compliant fics that either change one key detail or diverge in some minor way between seasons and how that deviation radically changes everything while also maintaining echoes of canon scenes, only now they exist within a new context. I’ve seen so many fics like that and they’re all so cool because they honour canon while also using our knowledge of the story to rework certain moments and change whole plot arcs. it’s amazing what people come up with

oh!! i can answer this one easily, because awtdy au amps up significantly after the events of the alternate version of star allies, and in fact concludes before forgotten land occurs.

so realistically, forgotten land could happen mostly as normal! it is even implied to do so in a tongue-in-cheek way in one of the wrap-up pieces of prose i wrote for the immortality integer.

though there might be some changes to the way forgotten land would play out, due to the events of awtdy and the lasting impacts it's had on characters, their skills and relationships, and their resilience levels to specific things. but if anything, i think it would go even more smoothly than in the mainline series!

It's a growing rejection of the ironclad This Is How xyz Character Is, and a desire to explore something new. Maybe an idea that was always secretly thought about, but no one was confident enough before to risk.

A fandom's middle age is when there begins to be a shift away from 'But Canon?!' to 'What Canon.'

If a fandom can get through the initial need to keep replicating the same version of Canon (or as is more often the case, Fanon), this middle age often produces more interesting and dynamic and nuanced creations.

ok I don’t think Mercedes is going to annoy Ava, but I do think but she’ll feel underwhelmed and not know why because on paper it seems like everything at Abbott should be great. Mercedes is everything she was looking for, right??? she’s everything that isn’t Janine, so why are the vibes off? it makes makes no sense.

then Ava will eventually realize what’s missing is Janine, she’ll have some sort of epiphany about their being mirrors to each other, that her relationship with Janine has become fundamental to the way Abbott operates and the way she operates Abbott.

AND THEN we’ll get some “I realized the only person I want annoying me/I want to annoy is you” speech from Ava when she tries to convince Janine not to take the district job and that’ll play a big role in what ultimately convinces Janine to stay.

mahito's origins

its more alluded to than kind of outright stated by i see mahito's origins are being a particularly venerable curse; being tied to human hatred which is practically old as humanity itself. though despite having this pretty ancient ancestry, he himself doesn't hold personal memory of these past incarnations. mahito is simply the most recent incarnation of this ancient cursed spirit. he's aware of where he's descended from, but not super familiar with the specifics. which explains his relatively innocent and almost childish personality.

this is also why he's so set on discovering his 'true self.' being newly reincarnated, he's constantly working towards discovering the truth of his lineage. this is of course accomplished through fighting and conflict (generating more human hate, essentially).

i think his potential in combat and his innate skill also supports this. he's able to make extensive use of idle transfiguration. in addition, he continually innovates on this technique. he also is able to learn how to sustain his domain for 0.2 seconds after only witnessing gojo do it once, for example.

in some ways he's kind of a corruption of the gojo or zenin clan. both have lineages known for being skilled combatants which unique techniques. though his lineage isn't necessarily a clan he certainly posses the same sort of 'inherited potential.'
