It's been one year since encanto came out, and I'm happy to report Bruno is happily married to Pedro Segundo García from La Casa de Los Espíritus (by Isabel Allende) in my Sims world. They just adopted a daughter!

Had a super weird (genius???) thought on the way home.
Encanto, but it's a 'Final Destination' kind of horror setting.
So! Bruno sees the future and he constantly sees the deaths of his loved ones and of course he prevents them.
"Don't eat that."
"Don't go there."
But Death comes when it is supposed to come for whom it is meant to come and it's not gonna let itself get cheated out of its charges. So it tries again and again and again and everytime Bruno is like "Nope. Not today."
"Don't wear those shoes, you'll trip."
"Take an extra Arepa, lots of bees out there."
And Death is getting desperate. By now every single member of Familia Madrigal should have died at least 14 times. But Bruno is so used to it all by now that the horror of the situation has faded and he is basically just a lil guy, swapping deadly situations away like flies. And Death's attempts become more and more outlandish and complicated.
And so Bruno's warnings become more and more wacky.
"When you color the tree in your drawing, choose the light green pencil, not the dark green."
"Put your bracelet on the left wrist today and leave the earrings at home. And oh, no matter what you do, don't whistle that song that's stuck in your head on the way home."
You might think his family would question such instructions, but they have caught on to the fact that they have had more near death experiences than you should have so they kinda adopt the attitude of "If Bruno tells you to not pick your nose while walking, you don't pick your nose, no matter what. Comprende?"
(Writing this, I imagine them all sitting at the breakfast table and Bruno just giving out his warnings for the day like Alma is telling everyone their chores.
"Luisa, the third donkey from the right. Leave it be. It will find its way home alone sooner or later. Camilo, I don't care how stupid your friend's new haircut looks, don't you dare laugh at them. Agustin…*sigh* bees, Agustin. It's always bees.. And no one approaches or helps Pezmuerto today."
"Is she finally going to snap and kill one of us?" Camilo asks, excited.
"Nah, I just don't like her.")
I imagine it getting less horror and angst and more and more like slapstick humor or something until Death finally snaps and stands in front of Casita and demands to speak to Bruno because "Maaaan! What gives dude??? I'm just trying to do my job."
(Imagine how it will end however you want, but I love the idea of Casita opening her doors really quick and hard and yeeting Death over the mountains).

lots of encanto AUs i want to talk about so here you go
so uh, i've been brain rotting and hyperfixating on encanto for a bit now, and its been very fun
tho i've barely talked about some of the ideas and aus i have and want to share, so i guess i want to do that now in a way, so uh... (mirabel voice) lets go lets go
List of AUs here:
Time Travel AU
Big Hero 6 AU
[Redacted] AU (not the au's actual name, hidden for reasons)
Ghost Cocoon AU (fusion idea au i came up with of the cocoon au by @raefever and ghost grandchildren au by @jerseyk112, both found in @gamerbearmira's blog)
Giftless Grandkids AU (idea by anon, also found in @gamerbearmira's blog)
Undertale AU
Gravity Falls AU
P.S. some of these au ideas are not originally mine, but i've contributed to them in some way, and i've credited and tagged the creators
More information of the AUs found below
1. Time Travel AU
first au i've ever thought about, cool hue sisters centered, because i love them sm and i was still finding my footing in encanto and the fandom when i thought of this au, and yeah
its where isabela and luisa get sent back to the past after going after and protecting mirabel as casita falls
i gained the idea after seeing how the two older sisters were still so terrified of alma and disappointing her that they couldn't stand up for mirabel and for themselves, but as casita was falling, they weren't about to let their baby sister go, not after everything
despite this being the first au, its also still really vague and barebones in a sense, not much planned yet and its all just vibes, plus i just really wanted a cool sisters au because i love them sm
2. Big Hero 6 AU
ah yes, big hero 6 au, my beloved
came to be when i figured out bear aka @gamerbearmira's reference in one of her encanto one shots, the scooby doo one where they got arrested, and she used bh6's aunt cass' rant for alma's rant in said one shot, and then it led me to realize the potential of encanto big hero 6 au with bear, so that was fun
there's a post in bear's blog for the au, so you can check it out
there's a bunch more info that we haven't shared yet, but it's all written up in the docs for it, so yesyes
honestly been a bit since i touched the au personally, as i keep getting distracted by the other ones below
but yeah, planning on exploring of this au soon <3
3. [Redacted] AU
ah yes, this au, the 120 and counting pages one in my docs
and the 120 pages are mostly just details and planning for the au, not a single written thing yet
this au is not called redacted au, but the name itself is redacted because the word itself is a bit of a spoiler and im still trying to find a better name for it in general
i have no idea how to explain this au
first thing to mention is how its very much inspired by Take Back the Kingdom by @optimistic-violinist and @impossiblefangirl0632 (sorry for the tag, i can take it out if you'd like) and i really really recommend this fic, its so so good and it changed my brain chemistry on so many levels
so yes, i really got inspired by this fic, and it will very much be shown in this particular au with some things and tropes, but ofc im doing my own spin on stuff and the details, and from what i have rn, i think it really evolved and is still evolving as time goes on
another thing to note about this is how the idea came to be because of TBTK inspiration and a dream i had on the day i was taking a metaphysics midterms exam (this is completely unnecessary to mention but oh well, i still remember that moment so vividly)
the dream impacted just exactly how this au is going to go
what is the dream about? you'll find out whenever i get to write this au
all i can say without spoiling much is that there are lots of memory shenanigans and angst, plus the very fun trope of "your found family is your actual family"
also once more, read take back the kingdom, very good fic, 11/10, much recommend, will reread again
4. Ghost Cocoon AU
this au is the fusion of the Cocoon au and the Ghost Grandkids au, both still found in @/gamerbearmira's blog
ghost grandkids au is from @jerseyk112 and cocoon au is from @raefever, and ofc bear has a lot of ideas and thoughts for these aus in her blog
i was rereading bear's cocooned fic for the 17123723507 time and while i was at it, i remembered the ghost grandchildren au, so i decided it would be pretty fun to fuse the two aus together in some way
and so i did (first ask, second ask)
basic premise of this au is really just the ghost kids' healing and them protecting their younger selves and their family
this fusion au interested me so much that it got to the point where i actually wrote a 3683 word first chapter of sorts(?) for this fusion au already (bear has seen it but i havent posted it at all)
planning on continuing it when i feel like it tho hehe
so yes its been wild with this one
5. Giftless Grandkids AU
giftless grandkids au, my beloved
just as the name says, au where all the grandkids are giftless
all i can say is everything and nothing changes all at the same time with this
this au was sent and suggested by an anon in bear's blog
this is also the one where bear and i went wild on for the past few days
pretty sure bear is gonna be writing this au, if im not mistaken? so its very exciting
there's a lot in store for this au and it'll be fun
6. Undertale AU
undertale au yesyes
not the type where the characters are these characters tho
this idea is where we'll be throwing the grandkids into the underground for an adventure of a lifetime!
so basically characters of one media meet characters of the other media type
and the kids are gonna be going through the plot of undertale, technically in frisk's shoes here
this au is still very vibes and not much planned, there's lots of potential to play around tho, so im thinking of exploring this at some point soon
7. Gravity Falls AU
gravity falls au this time!!
now this au is the one pure vibes one, absolutely zero planning or thoughts, just vibes and aspirations for it
not even sure if it'll be like the undertale au where characters of one media will meet characters of the other media or if it'll be characters from this media are gonna be these characters of that media in this au
i just thought it would be fun to have an encanto gravity falls au idea, but still dont know where it'll be going in general
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So that's about it, there's actually a few more ideas i havent mentioned yet, but let's just say these ideas are exactly like the gravity falls au vibing no planning, except much worse in a sense, so i have no idea what kind of footing there will be at all with those aus
but anyway, i digress, these are some of the ideas and aus i have and would love to share and write and uh, yeah
if you have any questions on these aus, feel free to ask if ever, my asks are open (this is the first time im saying this in a post omg help)
but anyway yes the brainrot and hyperfixation is real
if you got here to the end, congrats have a pic of my dog for your effort and dedication <333 see you around <3

Ive been thinking about the digital circus cast but with tma entities all day, so here they are:
Pomni- Spiral Victim, she is trapped in this strange place that looks like an old video game and is full of sanity destroying horrors, and she cant remember who she is and why shes here, of course its Spiral. Also i maybe a bit biased but I always associated clowns and circuses with the Spiral instead of the Stranger.
Jax- Hear me out, Lonely Victim. Ofc he spends a lot of time around the other characters but he's not actually treating them like people, more like play things. He never really opens up or acts genuinely to anyone, he just bullies them, and I think separating yourself from the only people around can be very isolating. : )
Ragatha- Buried Victim, this one was pretty hard to figure out because it isn't that obvious, at first I was thinking flesh but I think the Buried fits much better because she seems to be under a lot of pressure carrying the emotional weight of everyone. Shes always trying to help everyone and probably fears messing up even a little bit (Maybe like not fake laughing convincingly enough), because if she does everything will fall apart. I'm thinking Luisa (the strong girl from Encanto) except Ragathas not physically strong and giving into the pressure would have much worse consequences.
Gangle- Stranger Victim, I mean shes literally a comedy mask. Shes constantly going through major mood swings with the comedy mask and all. Thing is we don't really know how much her personality shifts between her masks, but changing suddenly at any time to something you might not even recognize as yourself feels very Stranger to me. There's this thing in my head thats the Stranger but your the Stranger that Johny never used, but I feel like if he did it would be similar to Gangle.
Zooble- Flesh Victim. What do you want from me, they literally, physically switches out their body parts and sometimes falls apart. It's like that one episode where the workout people attach extra arms and mouths and stuff but pg. Also same dude.
Kinger- Spiral Victim, hes insane in cannon. What do you want from me.
Bubble- Slaughter Avatar. Behind his goofy smile and beady eyes is only a barley contained murderous instinct. Do not trust him.
Caine- I don't know. He isn't actively trying to cause fear and he doesn't seem to be scared himself. I lean heavily towards the Web because he controls everything in the circus but he isn't manipulating anyone and they have a choice in whether or not they play (Kinda). Maybe Beholding because he watches everyone? The stranger is also a choice because he acts almost like a human, like an AI pretending to be a person, and that is exactly what he is. We'll probably just have to wait and see.

Encanto Ride the Cyclone AU.
For Halloween.
Warning ahead - descriptions of blood and death.
~~~~~~
Be Sure to Ride the Cyclone
Bruno had given a lot of predictions over the years. Some good, some bad. But this was the worst.
And he hadn’t even seen it.
Or, maybe he had, sub-consciously.
Did he know that there would be five deaths? No. Did he know four of which would be his nieces and nephew? No. Would he even have wanted to, knowing he couldn’t save them?
A travelling fair had been making its way around Colombia. Encanto, being the remote and hidden town it was, obviously wasn’t an intended stop, but when the group passed through, they couldn’t help but stop for the chance of more money.
The town was old, very old, almost like time had stopped there. Seeing a carnival would be extraordinary and a guaranteed success.
With permission from the council, the fair was set up and going to be there for six days.
Camilo was somehow the first to hear of this and had been ecstatic at the thought. Isabela and Luisa were agreeing with each other that this would be a good idea for a day out. Dolores, though she claimed she would only go to babysit them for their parents, was clearly just as interested as the others.
It was decided they would all go to the fair together on Monday.
Monday 14th September, 1951.
Bruno had gone down to the fair too, of his own accord; he had to admit he was curious about how some of the attractions worked and he wanted a go on some himself.
He occasionally saw his nieces and nephew throughout the day. Sometimes he would stop and speak to them - it was hard though, they were always on the move.
Isabela had dragged them round the bumper carts at least ten times. Luisa had enjoyed the drop tower, managing to get a second go before having to being brought back to the bumper carts. Camilo recommended that Bruno try out the gravitron, which the others weren’t really interested to do again. Dolores had been very impressed with the view from the ferris wheel and Bruno agreed they should go together at the end of the night. They all complained about how lame the carousel had been, though Bruno wasn’t sure which one of them had actually picked it. He remembers telling them, “Be sure to ride the Cyclone.”
He doesn’t know if it was a prediction or not.
The Cyclone was the main attraction of the fair. A big rollercoaster with some impressive height and loops. Bruno himself had gone on it earlier in the day and enjoyed himself.
And now, here he was. Looking at five bodies, covered by sheets and laying side by side, waiting to be removed.
He can just about remember them climbing the stairs, in line for the rollercoaster, and living. He was watching from a nearby bench. Isabela’s eyes almost glittering with excitement, Camilo waving at faces in the crowd below, Luisa carrying some giant unicorn she’d won, Dolores chatting candidly with a member of staff.
Before the cart had derailed at the apex of the loop-the-loop.
The crowd was quickly pulled away from the area, as the carnival staff tried desperately to regain control of the situation.
Bruno didn’t know what he’d say to the rest of the family. He didn’t know how he’d tell them that their children were dead and it somehow escaped his future vision. The thought of telling his sisters made him shudder.
The first to die was a young girl; Bruno didn’t even know who she was. She just happened to fill the odd space on the cart with the Madrigal kids. She had been thrown from the back of the cart, due to a faulty safety bar, down into the tracks below. For the rest of his life, he’d remember her screams as she was thrown. Haunting. If that wasnt horrific enough, she didn’t have her head by the end either. People were still looking for it.
Luisa was next. She had been alone in the front of the cart. When the cart derailed, she had been thrown forwards so harshly, her ribs broke against her safety bar. Fortunately, the snapped bones went right through her heart, killing her instantly. It was strange seeing her famously strong and invincible body, so limp and lifeless, hanging over the front of the cart. The blood she was covered in wasn’t even her own, the only bit that was coated her lips like makeup.
Camilo couldn’t have been long after her. He was sat on the left side of the second row. He had also been flung forward during the fall, but it’s wasn’t his ribs that took the brunt of the injuries, but his head. He had collided full force into the back of Luisa’s seat, resulting in a fatal brain bleed. He had a nasty bump across his forehead and his jaw was hanging open. Apart from that, he looked okay; he almost looked like he had fallen asleep.
On his right had been Isabela. The faulty safety bar of the pair behind had gone through her chair and impaled her in the back. It hadn’t gone far enough to come out through her chest, if that was a mercy. But it did keep her pinned against her chair until proper equipment came. The staff had had to separate Isabela and Camilo’s conjoined hands too; Bruno hopes they had been able to grant each other some comfort before the end.
In the final row of the cart, on the left side of the cart had been Dolores. The last to die. After everything, Dolores’ body was probably the most damaged. She was crushed when the cart finally crashed into the ground. She might not have died instantly either - the staff think blood loss killed her, opposed to her injuries. Bruno wanders if she was aware of what was happening the entire time - could she hear the derailment? The bones breaking? The hearts stopping around her?
Bruno had been allowed to see each of his nieces and nephew before they were covered. Even the girl he didn’t know - he was asked if he could identify her. He racked his memory, he tried giving a vision, but nothing.
That had been hours ago. So long that it was now past midnight.
Pepa hadn’t stopped screaming since she’d arrived; Félix was trying to keep it together for her and even Antonio (though he was back at Casita, unaware he’d lost his siblings), but clearly struggling; Agustín sat between his daughters’ bodies and refused to let either of them go; Julieta sat with a basket of fresh food, begging them to wake up and promising to heal them. Nobody came for the other girl.
Bruno stood between his sisters. He didn’t know what to say, what to think.
Just yesterday, he was an uncle of six living and happy children.
And now he was an uncle of two.
~~~~~~
Dolores blinked her eyes open, slowly.
She should’ve died. She did die. Hadn’t she?
She was surrounded by darkness and cold air and a few drops of rain. She was still sat in the goddamn cart. She could vaguely make out the forms of Camilo and Isabela in front, and Luisa further ahead.
Was this the afterlife?
It certainly wasn’t anything like she’d thought it would be. Or anything like what Padre Flores had said in church.
She looked down at herself. Not a drop of blood on her, not even a crinkle in her dress. Her body itself looked alright, the same as it always had been.
She noticed her hearing was gone. Well, not gone, but back to what normal people heard. She couldn’t hear her heart beat or anything else around her, just the occasional breaths through her nose to keep calm.
Another thing she noticed was her safety bar was out of place. It was raised diagonally and warped in the middle, allowing it to bend into Isabela’s seat.
With nothing keeping her in, Dolores didn’t hesitate to step out. Not on to grass, like she’d been expecting, something more solid and smooth.
Stepping, one foot after the other, she realises there’s no wall in front of her. It’s open, looking into the abyss, into the night sky.
“Holy shit.”
She turns back to the cart to see Isabela, eyes wide and staring straight at her.
As Isabela starts to wake up a bit and tries to move, she begins to take in the situation. She drops Camilo’s hand like a rock, using both hands to feel around her back. She shrieks when they touch cold metal, realising she’s stuck to her seat.
Her scream seems to wake Camilo and Luisa, the latter of whom instantly tries to hurl over the side of the cart.
Camilo rustles his safety bar and then sits still. It takes Dolores a minute to realise he’s trying to shapeshift. Without a word, she steps over and helps him pry the bar aside.
In the meantime, Luisa has bashed her own in and slips out easily.
“Where… are we?” She asks, after a few beats.
“The afterlife.” Dolores answers.
All three of them turn and gasp at her.
“What? Do any of you have a better idea where we are?”
“You aren’t whispering,” Camilo exclaimed, pointing at her in disbelief. “You’re talking. Talking normally.”
Dolores pauses. “I suppose I am,” she says, experimentally. She hadn’t even noticed.
“But what about your hearing—”
“It’s gone, Isa,” she says. “Our gifts. They are gone.”
“This is crazy,” Camilo mumbled.
“Considering we should be dead, hermano, our lack of gifts isn’t the craziest thing about all of this.”
“What the hell happened? The last thing I remember is doing the loop.” Luisa mutters.
“Did we die?” Camilo questioned. He did a spin on the spot, looking around. “We don’t look like we died. Shouldn’t we be ghosts or corpses or something? Up in the clouds? Maybe we lived?”
“I think we all know we didn’t,” Dolores pointed her lips back towards the battered cart.
“Um, is someone going to help me? Or are you all just going to stand around chatting?” Inquired Isabela, still in her seat.
Luisa volunteered herself, as arguably still the strongest of the group, and wandered to the back on the cart. Hesitantly, stepping into what was Dolores’ seat to see the damage.
She stopped.
“What is it?” Dolores prompted.
Camilo paled. “Isabela isn’t gonna be stuck there forever, right?”
“She better fucking not.” Isabela hissed, staring between her cousins for any sign that might be the case, seeing as she couldn’t see Luisa’s face herself. She sounded more scared than angry.
“No, no, I can pull it. Don’t worry,” Luisa said. She looked at Dolores. “You’re lucky you were sat in the other seat, you could’ve been completely thrown out.” Before anyone could react, she yanked the metal bar clean out, tossing it to the floor.
Isabela didn’t cry out in pain or even flinch like they all, including herself, expected her to. Instead, she just took a deep breath, as though she’d been underwater all this time and could finally breathe again. And then simply exited the cart, not without turning back and kicking the thing full force afterwards.
Dolores found herself pulling a protective arm around Camilo, and he didn’t bat her away either, as they walked around the area. Neither of them really addressed or reacted to their sudden closeness, they hadn’t really hugged each other since they were very little. Maybe around Antonio’s age. Thinking about his brother, Camilo pressed himself closer into Dolores’ hold.
Luisa chewed at her nails. She wasn’t nervous, not exactly. And did feel a little excluded that she had nobody to hug. She wanted human reassurance and well… admittedly, she wasn’t particularly close with any of them, but she’ll take what she can get. However, Dolores and Camilo were too busy comforting each other to notice her and Isabela was taking out her frustration on the cart. So, she found herself awkwardly slinking behind her cousins.
Finally, Isabela tired or gave up; the others weren’t sure. She joined them, before casually asking, “What do we do now?”
All is silent. And then there’s a flash of light and a burst of sound from across the room, and a man walks out into the now lit space.
He’s clad in a suit. Blue trousers and jacket, in some checkered fabric, wearing a white shirt with a blue circle motif underneath. He’s holding a metallic black stick in one hand, it vaguely looks like some kind of ice cream cone.
Smiling, like he knows them, he says, “Greetings, children. It’s time to play.”

I am ✨bored✨ here are some of my Encanto AUs
NEXT GEN AU
Self-explanatory: A next generation AU set about two decades past the events of the film. At this point, the family has settled down. Mirabel is now the fearless matriarch of the family, as Alma wanted someone young to take her place. Isabela and Luisa have both moved out, the ladder starting a family with a woman she loves. Dolores and Camilo are both married to people they deeply love with kids, and Antonio is extremely desperate to leave the Encanto. A crack in mountain has been left open for two decades, and it’s driving him nuts with curiosity— he believes there’s more out there in the world for him then the Encanto, and wishes to study at a real school and learn more then what their outdated books tell them.
Luisa’s family:
Wife: Valeria
Kids: Benson, Gaberial
Dolores Family:
Husband: Mariano
Kids: Issac, Paloma, Eloísa
Camilo family:
Former husband: Hugo
Current husband: Marco
Kids: Cyrus, Carolina, Chris and Celeste (yes they all have ‘C’ names and yes its all Camilo’s fault)
Behind the Magic
A very grandkid centric AU. The grandkids wake up separated from each other in a, vast magical land called “Planta”. They quickly discover that the continent is split between multiple countries which are all home to magic users like them. There is one issue: all the countries and segregated and by no means will make any kind of alliance. Some of the countries are at the very least peaceful, others are at war, and some have turned to myths and disappeared entirely. A prophet from the “Kingdom of The Future” (a faction of people with the same future seeing gift as Bruno) tells them that they must end the incoming war between the countries and bring the lost back in order to be whole again, only then they will be granted entry back into their world. The grandkids find themselves at a cross road when they begin siding with enemies and turning on each other, risking not just their way home but the place they’ve been sent to.
SEPARATED AU
Upon Casitas fall, all of the grandkids expect for Mirabel and Antonio split up and leave the Encanto. Isabela is now studying botany at university in a more populated part of Colombia. Dolores writes poems and dreams of a better life from a small village she found. Luisa has started a family and is now a mother told two kids, and Camilo’s face is now on nearly every bill board and in every record store. But when Alma suddenly falls extremely ill, Mirabel and Antonio set out to find their lost family and reunite before her death.
Pokémon AU
Yeah…. Pokemon.
Modern AU
This one only exists so I could write a fanfic of them going to Disneyworld
Puss in Boots
I’m scared to explain this one

Inspired by a TV Show
Ok so this idea was originally inspired by @glendybluebird and her Encanto Empire AU. I just loved her character designs and the idea of a Royalty AU with the cast of Encanto when it hit me! What if it was a Regency AU instead? And what if it was based on Bridgerton?! 🤯
Ok so in this AU the Madrigals aren’t quite royalty but they are prominent members of the ton. Very close with the crown. Maybe a Dukedom, I’m not sure yet.
Anyway, the story is a mix between conflicts in the movie and the drama from the show. Isabela plays a part similar to Edwina and Daphne, Dolores plays Penelope, Mirabel and Camilo are Eloise and Benedict, Luisa is Kate, and Abuela is basically Lady Danbury with a hint of Violet Bridgerton. Mariano is the Prince, with a role similar to Colin and his Grandmother is Queen Charlotte. (See where I’m going with this?)
Alma and Queen Carlotta Guzman are old friends and determined to see their families united. So, when the three eldest granddaughters of the Madrigal household, finally come of age, Queen Carlotta has her pick of the perfect suitor for her son and declares Isabela, the Diamond of the Season. With the two of them being long term friends, everything appears to be going perfectly. But nothing is as it seems.
Ever since Dolores was young, she new that her best friend Prince Mariano Guzman was the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, he seems smitten with her cousin and their abuela’s are determined to see them together. Despite being a wise and lovely young woman with a talent for writing and music, Dolores is often overlooked in favor of her older cousin. Compared to Isabela’s popularity with the ton, her perfect poise, and beautiful flowers, Dolores fears that she will always be in her cousin’s shadow. However, being a wall flower does have its advantages and Dolores is keeping a powerful secret.
Isabela Madrigal has always done her best to be the perfect young lady and to please her Abuela. However, she longs for far more freedom than marriage to the crown could give her. She’d much rather explore and travel the world, go horseback riding and cultivate new and exotic plants than reside in the palace, throwing balls, making pretty flower arrangements and popping out babies left and right.
Although she is the younger sibling Luisa is very protective of her family and feels it is her duty to ensure their safety, security, and security within the community. She is strong, smart, intimidating and well read, often emulating their fierce and equally protective Abuela. She will do anything for her family often at her own expense and she can usually be found helping people either within the family or on their vast estate. She does not have many friends amongst the ton nor suitors so she focuses all her energy on vetting the people trying to get close to them. However, under the surface, she longs to finally let down her walls someday, to share her burdens and interests, and finally truly relax.
Meanwhile, Camilo and Mirabel, as the younger spectators of this spectacle, contemplate what they desire out of life, outside of romance, and try to solve the mystery of the ton’s unknown gossip writer. Much like Benedict and Eloise, Camilo and Mirabel are more interested in broader pursuits. Camilo would like to be a performer and work in a theater. While, Mirabel would like to start her own Modiste Shop. I’m also thinking of aging Antonio up about 5 years because I want to give him plot relevance but I’m not sure what that will be yet. 🤔
I’d for a story like this to come to life someday but this is all for now.

Camilo and Chickpea
Tumblr media
Camilo was doing his usual routine of pranking villagers and just having a fun time with his friends. After he was done, he decided to head home for lunch and relax a bit. Unbeknownst to him, a small little yellow thing was following him.
It took about five chirps before he stopped…and looked around.
“What is that noise?”
Chirp!
He looked down, and that’s when he saw a little chick sitting on top of his foot like it owned it. Milo tilted his head at the little yellow puffball and looked around, seemingly looking for where this little thing came from.
It was from one of the Chicken farms, that much he knew. But HOW did it end up from the other side of the Encanto…to on top of his foot? Without being seen by cats or being stepped on?
So, he picked the little fella up and contemplated what he should do. Should he take it to a farm where this little guy could be used for food or to lay more eggs once it’s older?...or keep it as a pet?
Camilo decided to go with the latter and walked back inside with his new friend. And besides, if Antonio can keep a jaguar then camilo can surely keep a chicken, right?
Once inside he saw his little brother and prima mira sitting on the floor coloring.
“Hey, look at what followed me home”
Cami sat down in front of them and released the yellow feather baby. Antonio ‘awed’ and picked the little chick up. Mirabel was just confused as to why camilo had a chick on him.
“Um…why do you have a chick?”
“It followed me”
“.....a chick…followed YOU home?”
“Mirabel, I'm not just going to take a chick from its mother. Don’t you think that’s a little cruel?”
“Well I’m finding it hard to believe a literal baby chick followed you home on its own accord”
Antonio chimed in to the conversation “she said she left her nest to see what was beyond that weird barrier that only the big weird looking chickens can go through. After that she got lost and scared and decided to follow that big chicken. I think she means Milo”
“I’m sorry, does she think humans are just…bigger, odd looking chickens?”
“Yeah, all chickens do”
“...Oh”
The chick peeped some more and Antonio leaned down to hear her. “Oh, she says she likes Cami as her mama more. She doesn’t really remember her old one anyway or which nest she came from”
Cue camilo who looks really emotional “she sees me as her mama?”
Cue Mirabel rolling her eyes “oh hear we go”
After that day, Camilo kept the little chick and named her Chickpea (right on the nose aint it?). All family members find it hilarious and ironic that the shapeshifting chameleon boy has a chicken for a pet.
Pepa and Felix see Chickpea as their unconventional nieta. They can’t do much given her…chicken-ness but they like to have her around when Camilo is out. Both of them keep her on their shoulders or in their pockets.
Casita decided to be funny and mark Alma’s door “Bisabuela”. She didn’t understand what it meant until she saw Chickpea and was told the situation.
Mirabel knitted “father of an animal club” on his rauna. It was originally a club of one, which was just Bruno and his rats but now there’s a new member. Camilo wears it proudly. She also stitched a pocket to the front of it just in case he wanted to carry her around.
Mira also likes knitting little hats for Chickpea, it’s tedious to make something for a creature so small but she’s up for the challenge.
Dolores takes her role as the honorary Tia very seriously. Same with Antonio. He pledged to be the very best influence on her.
Luisa and Isabela love her too, although only one of them is trying to be a good influence and it’s not Luisa. Isa likes snatching Chickpea whenever she can and sprinkles her with pollen to make her look “cool”.
“Isabela! She’s MY daughter, not yours”
“I don’t care”
Alma and the blue couple don’t know what to think of the new family member other than she’s cute. And Alma hopes Camilo won’t get bored or tired of the new responsibility because from what she knew, chicks need care like every other pet in this world.
He never got tired of her though and always made sure she was okay.
Luisa absolutely loves her. Will have her sit on her lap while she reads or just talk to her.
(teenage and adult years)
Chickpea is very spoiled and very much a diva (thanks to her “mama”). And used to having her needs met instantly. If they aren’t, she irritatingly bawks like no tomorrow. Not too loud, she knows Dolores has sensitive hearing, but she does it loud enough to the point where it’s annoying enough to get what she wants. And if that doesn’t work, she pecks you.
Chickpea also has her own collection of hats and necklaces thanks to her Tia Mirabel, Tio Antonio, and her “mama”.
She is very sweet though and knows when someone is upset and needs a cuddle. She’ll cuddle just about anyone if it makes them happy, especially Camilo.
She certainly IS potty trained and knows exactly where to go when she needs to go (if you catch my drift).
Camilo does include her in on his pranks (thanks to Antonio explaining the concept to her). She’s just as mischievous as her mama and loves chasing people around because it’s funny to her. Seeing creatures much bigger than you run away when you are chasing them is a hilarious thing to see.
She is also in Bruno’s rat telenovelas as the leading actress. She won’t have it any other way…and yes, she’s just as dramatic as her mother.
That’s all I got, I hoped you liked these.
Inspired by @midcanto (Also, I remember you saying Camilo has Disney princess aura and I kind of want to make an au now)

Ok so you know Encanto
What if you were watching a movie with a LI and then MC starts crying because they relate to a song (surface pressure maybe) How would they react.
I know this is kinda a weird request and you don't have to do it. But maybe you could
Anyways bye :)
MC crying at Encanto
For reference this is in a modern au :)
Tumblr media
Asra
He loves the colors and animation of this movie, watches it multiple times a week.
When him and the MC watch it for the first time, he's very focused on it.
They only really realize that they've started crying when Faust squeezes their wrist and he hears them sniffle.
Asra pauses the movie to ask if they're alright, reaching out to hold them closer.
When the MC tells him that it was the song and how they relate to the character, they relax a bit.
Holds them until they feel a little better and aren't in tears over the song anymore.
Julian
Finally notices that MC is crying over it 3 minutes after the song is over.
Panics a little and frantically asks what's wrong.
When MC lets him know its just from relating to Luisa, he lets out an audible "ohhhh"
Keeps an arm around them the rest of the movie. (Even when he cries at the end of the movie.)
Nadia
Notices, but doesn't mention it.
She just leans MC onto her shoulder, whispering that it's alright.
Rubs their shoulder until they're alright.
As long as they don't mention it when she tears up at Isabella's song, it'll be fair on both sides.
Muriel
Watches it only because MC wanted him to.
Knows as soon as they start to tear up, glancing at them throughout the song.
Once it's over, he'll pause it and ask if they're alright.
When he realizes it's just because they relate heavily to Luisa's song he relaxes about it.
After all, he teared up at Mirabel's song in the beginning, so he understands.
Portia
Doesn't really notice when MC starts to tear up at the song. Pepi gets her attention on them by jumping into their lap.
They're both teary eyed and emotional.
She'll initiate holding each other through the song, eventually grabbing tissues for them both.
Laughs about it after when she realizes its a little silly.
Lucio
He's just barely paying enough attention since the MC asked him to watch it with them.
He notices as soon as they start to cry and quickly pauses the movie for them.
He'll ask them what's wrong or if the movie upset them somehow.
When the MC says it was just how they relate to the song and Luisa, he pauses for a minute.
He snickers a little, but he reassures them it's alright. (he cries at Bruno's entire character later so it's even.)

Gluing the broken glass
(Todos vienen a celebrar)
As Mirabel finally finished with her part, she took off her apron, tying it around the wooden chair before she walked out of the kitchen, exactly at the time when her baby cousin was getting downstairs with a nervous smile. Tia Pepa rubbed his shirt gently. Camilo paced next to Mirabel, slightly hitting her with his shoulder by accident. Inigo jumped after him quickly. He presumably was Camilo's closest animal, but it would probably be expected that a monkey would be as much of an elf as Camilo was himself.
Mira passed over them, for a moment her eyes were locked at how Camilo pat his brother's head, ruffling his black fluffy hair while his monkey wrapped his tail around the birthday boy before she looked away, passing into the front yard where the celebration was in full bloom already. Mama and Dolores stood outside, welcoming the guests that flooded the house. Mirabel could see how Julieta was shifting to honor every villager who had come while her older cousin gave beautiful bouquets of flowers to everyone. Isabela and Luisa had been standing at the front doors, the first one with her usual notebook, marking everyone who had come while Luisa was listening to people, sometimes correcting the older girl when she had forgotten someone.
"What are you doing?" Isabela muttered, looking up from the notes to Mirabel.
The youngest sister rolled her eyes in annoyance. "I'm done already." She knew that she probably could make just one more set of arepas,  but was it that bad that she wanted to see everyone?
"Dios Mio, please..." Luisa breathed out, throwing her head back and rubbing her skirt slightly. Mirabel glanced at the sewn-in ribbons of various shades that had symbolized the volume.
Isabela just huffed. "Okay," she had scribbled something on paper and Mirabel looked at the notebook. It turned out that her name was crossed out now, meaning that she was free. She just rushed inside, happy that she could finally have some fun.
Animals were jumping all over the place, entertaining the townspeople. A jaguar ran nearby with a bunch of children on its back almost knocking Mirabel off, but she jumped away at the last moment. Her green glasses slipped off slightly from this. She turned around to her papa and Tío Felix, who had played some music.
"Colombia, te quiero tanto!" Tío Felix discanted in his bass voice.
"Que siempre me enamora tu encanto."Mirabel continued and Agústin stopped for a moment to wave his hand before getting back to the piano.
Somebody squeezed Mirabel's arm quietly making her look down. She chuckled a little as she saw her primito, all smartened up, in his white ceremonial costume.
"Ah, Tonito, are you ready for the big day?"
The little boy nodded with delight, looking at Mirabel with happy sparkles in his eyes. "What do you think my gift would be?"
She smiled, kneeling a little. "I'm not a wisewoman." She slightly pinned his plump with baby fat cheek. "Either way, it's going to be cooler than anything!" She had embraced her cousin tightly, before tossing him up into the air. Antonio laughed cheerfully, while Mirabel held back her groan of pain. Yes, Antonio might be small, but he was a big boy already.
Luisa scurried next to them, then stopped for a moment. "The ceremony is about to start." She looked at Mirabel, who squeezed her baby primo for the last time before following her sister. With her side-eye, Mirabel saw the hot side of the family gathering around the youngest Madrigal family member.
"Fifty years ago this candle blessed us with a miracle given to our family." The Patio was silent, except for Abuela's voice. The air was filled with anticipation, the cold night air lay upon everyone and even Camilo's animals were quiet.
As her grandmother continued, Mirabel leaned on Luisa who had wrapped her right hand around Mirabel, the other hand had been put on their mom's shoulder. Julieta held hands with Camilo, somehow similar to how Isabela and Dolores did. Agustin armed the two oldest girls. Tío Bruno, as Mirabel actually expected, wasn't here. Everyone was listening closely. This speech wasn't any different from what Mirabel had heard at her ceremony, but this whole pomp made her heart flutter in awe.
Finally, the fanfare had lightened up the long corridor, focusing on the main focus of the evening. Antonio if to be clear. Casita flipped the tiles, creating the Red carpet right to the door. The patio burst into applause as everyone turned to Antonio. Unsurely, he had made the first step. Mirabel squinted a little and her face broke into a smile of tenderness as she realized that he had an orange flower crown on his head. There was no doubt that it was created by Dolores earlier.
Every step felt like it was taking forever, Morabel almost relieved her own ceremony at this moment. She remembered it like it was yesterday, this worry if she would make Abuela proud with her gift... Oh, she really hoped she did. Mirabel tightened her grip on Luisa's arm.
Finally, after what felt like forever, Antonio stood right in front of the magic candle. Abuela leaned over slightly, looking right into  his brown eyes. "Do you promise to work for the better of Encanto?"
Antonio's black curls trembled as he moved his head down and up before his tiny dark-skinned palms reached forward the candle and started to warm up against its wax. Mirabel adjusted her glasses, not because they had slipped off, but from all the worry in her soul. Finally, Antonio took a deep breath and reached for a doorknob. A bright light irrupted all over Casita if not the whole Encanto. Such a bright color that Mirabel seriously thought that she had gotten blind. A strong wind blew, Mirabel's legs bulked slightly from a sudden force of nature.
Mira blinked a couple of times to shove the brightness in her eyes off. For a moment, she saw Antonio, surrounded by a sand cupole, before it fell down, ruining the complete tidyness of the floor. Abuela stared at the mess, probably wondering what was going on. Mirabel squinted and realized that her primo held some sort of a dark brown tablet. He looked down at it, twitling it in his hands.
"Is that... me?" He asked nervously, examining the plate. Abuela leaned to him, looking at the object in his arm. A second later Antonio's door brightened and a carved image appeared on his door. Abuela's face brightened as she took a tablet from Antonio's arms and showed it to everyone. Mirabel raised her head, looking carefully, before realizing that there was an image of Antonio's door with Abuela and Antonio in front of it. Positions are exactly how they were a few moments ago.
"...seeing the future" Mirabel realized briefly.
"We have a new gift!"
A moment later, Casita was filled with clapping, the sound of exploding fireworks drowned it down a bit. For a split second, Luisa clutched Mirabel's arm tighter, before letting go of it and covering her ears abruptly, her face doubled up from the racket. Even Mirabel herself had to admit that it was pretty loud.
The next time she would make a Bandeja Paisa for Luisa to make it up for all the uproar.

Okay, I don't voice a ton of opinions about Disney movies, but here's one I think about from time to time: Raya and the Last Dragon AND Encanto would have worked better as animated series than movies.
I say this as someone who absolutely loves Encanto mind you. Every time I see a Camilo post I am immediately sending it to my sister, we both appreciate this film. But our inside joke is that it gets an I for Incomplete. The movie spends so much time giving us musical numbers that expose us to each character's struggles, but it feels like Mirabel just kind of shows up and listens to how her family members are feeling? Like she doesn't get much of a chance to actually help most of them through their problems, even though the movie seems like it wants to frame her that way. She barely suggests a solution. Luisa just had a good cry around her, and Isabella yelled at her and then found her solution on her own. I feel like listening and having a soundboard are important when it comes to working through your feelings, but this format and pacing actively strip Mirabel of getting to be fleshed out and have an active role in the story. Things just kind of happen around her. We don't get to see much of what makes her unique as a problem solver. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that this story was being told in a movie format. It has such a big cast where all of them are important, it's hard to give anyone enough time to be fully fleshed out and have the entirety of their character arc within that time span.
Raya suffers from the same problem. The world is so large and expansive, its geography and individual cultures have so much potential, but we only get this tiny glimpse of these characters and places that doesn't tell us all that much about them, outside of a small taste of exposition when they're all missing their families. Which kills me, because both of these movies have some really interesting ideas on display. The scope is just too ambitious to fit cleanly into one singular movie. If they were animated series that had some slower growth to compliment their rich world building, it would have made a significant difference. I would love to see more shenanigans with each of these characters, more ups and downs of serious conflict and a little goofiness. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset by what we got, it was nice to have some original IPs that were fun and took some risks. But I am a little disappointed, because they had the potential to be a lot better than they were.
It's been feeling like Disney movies are more and more rushed over the past couple years, or at the very least, not thought through as much as they could be. -gestures at the behind the scenes of Frozen 2 where they didn't know what the voice was for most of production- And I can't pinpoint any one thing as the reason why, because there are a lot of factors contributing to it. But it definitely makes me want to be more conscious of that when creating my own stories. I guess that is the great thing about storytelling and art, you're always learning, and as you take in more art, you figure out what you value most about it. That is key in teaching you how to make what you want. Art is a language after all.

OH OH have u hear of welcome home yet if u have?its the arg game (it does give off Dhmis/Sesame Street horror vibes) cause like there’s a sentient house call home and we’ll casita but there’s a lot of implications of horror and dark secrets like maybe Mirabel gift could be freeing them from that horrorshow but inviting the darkness to the real world but mainly cause I wanna see casita and home interact cause it’s heavily implied that’s homes malicious among other stuff so like the madrigal family would be scared of them due to so many things (but good news the village won’t advantage of their gifts anymore cause bris they’re freaky despite a majority of them being all smiles haha) their uncanny behavior like wally is never seen not smiling his eyes but I think the puppets would get along well with the kids or maybe it’s an au where Encanto takes place as it’s like the neighborhood where the madrigal are silly puppets but eventually realize stuff ain’t right and become self aware like the show omg so many possibilities
Ok so. I actually had to research this. I have heard of it but I never got into it, at least not till now. I think it's a cool idea! Welcome home in and of itself is cool, and personally I like the idea of the Madrigals becoming self aware 🌚
I did try and draw them as close to puppets as I could. Can you tell its my first time drawing puppets 💀
They aren't all human, cause I saw on the OG that not all the characters are human so. I played with that ❗❗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm going to wing this and hope it makes sense. Again, I'm still learning about this Welcome Home stuff, so feel free to suggest edits to the idea or correct me on things I've referenced wrong 😭
But. Basically the Madrigals each have a segment about. Whatever it is they specialize in??? I guess. Felix and Pepa talk about the weather. Julieta and Agustín both do kitchen and cooking. Isabela does gardening, Dolores and Camilo is basically about playing nice and having fun. Luisa and Mirabel are about helping others out. Antonio does animals (occasionally accompanied with Mirabel). Alma is basically about family, and does the nighttime segment.
Bruno. He HAD a segment. He actually still does, but it's different from what it was when they initially aired (debuted?). Bruno used to do the bedtime story/nighttime segment. But upon an incident (becoming the first to be self aware), he now always wears a space helmet, and does a hand puppet segment. Though, it is hard to understand him, due to his helmet muffling his talking.
I think Bruno would have tried to tell the others about what was going on but was silenced. But through his hand puppet shows, he slowly makes the other Madrigals become more ans more aware.
These are just close ups <33

Hear me out-
The X-Men with a reader who can cancel out mutations, like when they're near someone, let's say Cyclops for example, he can take off his glasses and his eyes don't shoot out lasers.
I think it'd be funny to have it so the reader isn't even aware of their mutation, like one day one of them slips up or tries to use their powers around the reader but nothing happens 💀
Having a mutation that stops their powers (X-Men and The Brotherhood)
Tumblr media
I LOVE THIS I'm actually going to do this with the X-Men and the Brotherhood because there's so many possibilities.
TODD (I'm just putting him first because he's my fav):
• You and Todd hang out a lot. For some reason, he just feels calmer around you (little does he know, you actually take away the stressful parts of his mutation, like the sensitive skin and everything)
• I feel like he still eats flies because he's used to it, so he doesn't notice that you took away the frog part of his brain that actually needs them for nourishment
• He doesn't actually realize that you have that mutation until he goes to jump and just.. falls on his face.
• He freaks out at first, but he does appreciate not being so slimy and all of that
• Sometimes if he wants to shower (check out my headcanons on why he can't use soap), he'll call you over
PIETRO:
• He. Hates. You.
• Not actually, because I don't write angst very often, but he doesn't appreciate the power you hold over him.
• You're like a more annoying Wanda in his eyes.
• He always gets on your nerves (because he obviously will, I don't care how cute he is), and you always end each argument by taking away his powers.
• "Very funny! Now stop."
WANDA:
• You think she can't kill you without powers?
• Just kidding, ofc. She loves you.
• But, she's very used to being controlled and her powers being held back, so I actually think she wouldn't appreciate you using it against her.
• If you don't know about your powers yet, then she's obviously not going to get mad at you.
• Actually, she's very sympathetic. She knows what it's like to have uncontrollable powers.
FRED:
• Would he really notice? I don't think his body would change. Maybe he'd lose some strength though, but he'd probably just think he's getting sick or something
• Or he would freak out and feel useless without his powers, leading to a breakdown (think Luisa from Encanto idk)
LANCE:
• (I don't know if anyone else noticed this in the show, but HE MAKES THE STUPIDEST FACES WHEN USING HIS POWER ITS SO FUNNY)
• I imagine he goes to use his power and nothing happens so he just stands there like 🧍
• LIKE ELEVEN IN THAT ONE SCENE OF STRANGER THINGS LMAOO
TABITHA:
• She'd probably be really chill about it, but after a minute she'd really miss using her powers.
• So she freaks out a little, but she plays it cool in front of everyone.
• Hey, she's a complex person!
SCOTT:
• He's so confused, he just stares blankly at everyone and no one knows what's happening
• like this: 😨
• After everyone found out about what happened, he actually kind of loves it.
• Imagine always having to wear sunglasses, I would get so sick of those powers. So, he enjoys the little break
• Just make sure to tell him when you leave the room, because he's used to keeping his eyes open when you're around
ROGUE:
• Yeah, we all know she needs this.
• She would get really excited, going around and poking people's shoulders
• Getting surprised when nothing happens and just being like "okay, just checking!"
• She finally gets to hug her friends and high five people and all of that fun loving stuff
• A bit disappointed when it ends, but she doesn't blame you
• Yes, she's a bit closed off. But deep down, all she really wants is to be able to live her life without fear.
KURT:
• As much as he would like it to, I don't think the mutation would take any physical traits.
• So the beautiful blue boy would have to stay looking like the dude from Avatar </3
• Which obviously isn't a bad thing, because he's perfect just the way he is, but Kurt is severely disappointed.
• The teleportation was the only good thing about his powers! And that's all that went away.
• He's not angry at you, just angry at himself for.. existing, I guess.
• HE DESERVES SO MUCH LOVE I CANT
• Your powers don't really do much, expect keeping him from running away during arguments. Which could be very helpful.
JEAN:
• Another one that I believe would appreciate your powers
• Jean has to deal with a lot of things, including the involuntary mind reading (which I'm guessing absolutely sucks, because who would ever want that power!?)
• So, until she controls that, it can be a bit overwhelming.
• Then, you come along. And it's silent. For once in her life, the only voice in Jeans head is her own.
• She obviously goes into protective mother mode during the chaos, making sure no one else is panicking while they try to figure out what's happening
• But she's honestly really relieved the entire time.
KITTY:
• Unfortunately, she finds out right when she's running into a wall (because I think that's funny comedic timing)
• I think she'd be a little relieved too, since we learned her worst fear is her powers trapping her underground and things like that
• So sometimes I think using her powers makes her really nervous, thinking she'd accidentally get trapped and suffocate or something.
• So, whenever she needs a break from that anxiety, she knows exactly who to turn to
All in all, I think this is a really cute idea and I loved writing about it. Thank you for the request, I had so much fun with this!!

Here is my "El Raton Perez" One-shot. For everyone who did not see the post: apparently in Colombia the tooth fairy is a mouse (sometimes a rat!). I saw that, had a desperate need for more cute Bruno and Antonio interaction, and here we are. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's happening. It's really happening.
Antonio clutches the blanket tight to his chest. The spot in his mouth where his tooth is missing still aches a little, but that pain was pretty much forgotten the moment he heard the little squeaks coming from under his bed.
When Mirabel had pulled a crying Antonio into her lap and had told him about El Raton Perez, the little boy with one tooth missing had immediately believed her. If there is anything he knows for sure, it's that his favorite prima would never lie to him.
Mirabel is nice. The nicest! She sometimes teases, but only in a funny way. Not like Camilo, who is also nice and funny, but whose jokes sometimes are only funny for himself.
Antonio believes Mirabel, he really does, but a rat that takes your tooth home and gives you money in return also kinda sounds too good to be true.
Well, El Raton Perez will probably bring Antonio candy, since money has long since lost its value here in the Encanto. But even better! The old coins Abuela sometimes gives Antonio so he can play with them are nice to look at and they make funny noises when you shake them in your fist, but Antonio usually gets bored of them rather quickly.
Candy is much better.
"Some think El Raton Perez is a mouse and some think he's a rat." Mirabel had told him just that afternoon. "I think it's a rat here in Encanto. We have a lot of rats, don't you think?"
While Antonio had believed her, he'd thought that she may have been… what does his Papi always call it? Bamboozled. Tricked.
Mira is the best, but she always thinks the best of everyone else as well. If someone had told her a lie about El Raton Perez, she would have believed them. She is not as mature as Antonio, with his four and a half years. That's why he has to look out for her. Like a big boy!
But she was telling the truth! There is definitely a rat under his bed.
The room is dark and he is alone in the nursery. Tia Julieta has forced Mira to have a sleepover with Isabela and Luisa to "strengthen their sisterly bonds.".
Whatever that means, Mira hadn't seemed too happy about it, which is weird. Antonio loves his monthly sleepovers with Camilo. His older brother always declares that they will stay up all night, only to be the first one to fall asleep every time. It's always really funny.
Antonio has no problems sleeping alone from time to time. Casita always watches over them, so there is nothing to be afraid of. But no matter his initial excitement about El Raton Perez, the scratching and squeaking from under his bed are a bit scary in the dark.
He wants to see Senor Perez, but at the same time he kinda wishes the rat would hurry up and leave.
Suddenly there is a weird sound outside his room. Some kind of hissing sound. Antonio bites his lips and pulls the cover higher up so only his eyes peek out. He wonders if he should call out for his Mama, when Casita opens his door a little.
The hissing, which Antonio now realizes hadn't actually been hissing, but a voice going "psst psst psst" immediately stops.
"He's in there, Casita?"
Antonio doesn't recognize the voice, but Casita swings his door a little as if she's nodding. Whoever it is, Casita knows him. Antonio immediately relaxes. Casita loves them a lot. She would never let any harm come to them.
"Miercoles." The voice mutters. After a short pause, someone creeps into the room. It's a man wearing a ruana with the hood up. Antonio can't see his face, only the mouth, which is pressed into a thin, displeased line. The stranger peeks at Mira's bed and then turns to Antonio's side of the room. The little boy closes his eyes and pretends to sleep. After a few seconds, Antonio can hear the man kneel down on the floor. He reopens his eyes into slits and observes the man pressing his cheek against the floor to peer under Antonio's bed. He looks kinda small and scrawny and Casita still doesn't ring any alarms, so he must be okay.
Antonio sits up silently and leans over the side of his bed to get a better look. The man doesn't notice.
"Pssst. Perry." The man whispers. "Bad rat, get out of there! I told you guys a million times that you are not allowed in the kids rooms."
A big, grey rat shimmies out from under Antonio's bed. The man sits up and the rat jumps on his lap. He is frowning down at it and pokes it in the side. Antonio's curious eyes still go unnoticed.
"No cheese for you for a week, young man."
The rat squeaks sadly and Antonio can't take it anymore.
"Oh, please no! He only wanted my tooth."
The man almost jumps out of his skin. He scrambles backwards, still sitting on the floor, limbs flying everywhere. It looks so funny and Antonio can't help but giggle when the man bumps into the dresser and hits his head on it with a quiet "Ay!"
Mama would scold him for laughing, but Mama is not here.
The man clutches his heart and his breathing sounds ragged. "Dios Mio! Don't do that!"
"Sorry."
The hood is still obscuring the face, but Antonio can't help but think that something about the stranger looks familiar.
"Who are you?"
The man freezes. Mira always praises him for his instincts and empathy. Antonio thinks that the man looks scared.
"I… Uhm…"
The rat squeaks again. It had held on to the ruana during the man's mad backwards scramble and is now climbing onto a narrow shoulder. Antonio looks at it, then at the man, then back at the rat.
"Oh! Are you El Raton Perez's helper?" Mira hadn't said anything about a helper, but who else could the man be?
"Am I… Huh?"
"His helper!" Antonio pulls the tooth out from under his pillow and shows it off. "My tooth fell out. El Raton Perez came to get it."
The man slowly stands up. He hunches in on himself and steps closer to Antonio's bed. Maybe Antonio should feel intimidated by a stranger standing over him in the middle of the night, but the man is so careful, so hesitant. He supports the rat very tenderly while he walks and strokes a single finger over its little head. Something about the man makes Antonio trust him immediately.
"Your first tooth already? Time flies, huh?" He sounds wistful and sad as he stares at the tooth in Antonio's palm. Antonio didn't mean to make him sad.
But then the man seems to shake himself out of his sad mood and puts his hands on his hips. "But uhm, yeah! Exactly. I'm El Raton Perez's little helper. Good job figuring that out, Antonio."
The little boy gasps. "You know my name?"
"Oh well, of course. I.. I am his helper. I need to know our clients."
"But why does he need a helper?"
"He is very small. He can't open doors very well on his own. And someone needs to carry the teeth for him."
"Oh…that makes sense." Antonio holds out his own tooth. "Here!"
The man holds up his hands and shakes his head. "Oh no, I can't."
"But that's why you are here."
"I… darn it." He slaps his own forehead. The hood shifts a little and just for a second Antonio can see green, kind eyes, before nervous hands pull it back down again. "I forgot the candy. Sorry."
Antonio lowers his hand. He is a big boy. He is not gonna cry. "So I get no candy?"
"I'm sure you will. Later? Probably?"
He will not cry, he will not cry, he will not cry.
"Hey hey hey." The man sounds like he is about to cry himself, which makes Antonio feel a bit better about his own childish sniffles. He gingerly sits down on Antonio's bed. For a second it looks like he wants to hug the boy, but then he just hugs himself. "Don't cry, Tonito. You'll get your candy. Just later. How about… how about you hold on to that tooth for now and I… I will tell you a story instead. To tide you over?"
Antonio perks up immediately. He loves stories. Almost as much as candy. "You will?"
"Sure kid. A short one, okay?" Perez's helper wrings his hands and looks towards the door. "Casita, you will warn me if someone-" He shoots Antonio a quick look. "You will warn me when it's time to go, right?"
Casita waves soundlessly with the door.
"Alright. Lay back, Tonito. There, that's good. Have you ever heard the story of the princess and the frog?"
***********************************
Antonio falls asleep to the sound of a rumbling voice talking about adventure and love. Perez's helper is a very good storyteller. He makes different voices and he uses El Raton Perez himself to act out some scenes. He even allows Antonio to pet the rat.
Just before he's completely asleep, Antonio thinks he feels the man pull up the blanket and tuck him in. Just like Mama and Papa always do.
And then he's gone.
****************************
The next morning his tooth is gone and in its place is a piece of candy. It's nice, but the story was even better.
When he tells his Mama and Papa about Perez's helper, the two of them exchange that weird, grown up look they get sometimes, indulgent and amused. They praise his colorful imagination.
"But my tooth is gone. He must have come back later!"
And again that weird, amused, look. Like they know something he doesn't.
He is in a bad mood, because no one will listen to him, until Dolores finds him in the garden and hugs him tight so she can whisper into his ears.
"Perez's Helper is a secret, hermanito. The adults can't know."
"You know about him too?"
"Sure I do. How did you like the story about the princess and the frog? That was always my favorite."
"I loved it!" Antonio cheers. He grows somber really quick though. "I wanted to hear more. Do you think he will tell me another one when I lose my next tooth?"
"Who knows." For some reason, Dolores looks towards Tio Bruno's tower, the one Antonio is not allowed near. "If we are lucky, you won't even have to wait that long for a new story."
Antonio is not quite sure what she means, but he hopes she is right.
He already misses El Raton Perez and his helper.
I'll probably upload this to ao3 next week. Will let you know when that happens
