Jake Peralta x Reader -  Life changing celebrations with a unlikely duo: a lawyer and a detective. [2.2K Words]
Requested by: @shycollectionwolfstuff - I hope you enjoy and that you don’t mind me indulging in my own plot ideas. My apologies for taking so long to write it. <3
The muscles in your system ached from your sleep. The sunrise shone brightly behind your closed eyes as you twisted in your sheets, desperate for an extra five minutes in bed.
You knew it was early, too early to be a functioning human being. Before you could bury yourself in sleep, a pair of arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you forward into a sea of blankets and pillows. “Good morning Sunshine,” a husky voice, belonging to none other than Jacob Peralta, greeted you. “Up and at’em, Babe.”
Your boyfriend smiled when you pressed a groan into his chest. His eyes darting to your shared alarm clock, its blazing red numbers flashing as the time hit six in the morning. Jake dug within the sheets to bring your face up and towards his before planting a kiss on your nose, “We can do this!” He declared enthusiastically before whipping away the covers.
Today was the day.
You had been waiting for this day since you were a kid. Ever since little (Y/N) accidentally discovered the joys of Legally Blonde, Suits, and How to Get Away with Murder, she was fixated on a career in law. Whether it was environmental or business law, she was hooked on commanding a courtroom with her ingenious ideas and clever arguments.
Of course, this notion horrified some of the people in her life. Her adoptive dad, Raymond Holt, always had a distaste for lawyers. The profession contradicted everything he stood for: the validity of the justice system, rule and conduct, and his duty of putting away criminals. But seeing you light up the courtroom in your early years as a lawyer caused a change of heart.
Jake had felt the same way when he met you. He had terrible run-ins with lawyers over his years on the force, too many to count. A thousand of sleaze-balls trying to convince a room that hardened criminals were innocent. But when he saw you that day working a pro bono case, he believed every word you said and he knew you did too. Your eyes shone with compassion for the victim, a layer of sympathy in your voice as you walked the jury through the course of events. Jake knew then his life would change for the better and that he wanted to have the biggest pleasure of being your cheerleader.
After three years together, you’ve finally finished your doctorate in law studies and Jake got to be your sweet sweet date for the festivities. Today you get presented with your doctorate degree, and your entire circle was overjoyed with the news. The other half of your pair of adoptive fathers, Kevin Cozner, was particularly overjoyed since the new designation came with a professor position at Columbia University. Your entire extended family and the detective squad of the Ninety-Ninth precinct will be over at the Holt-Cozner house to celebrate your success before you walk on stage.
Jake was so excited to meet your family. He had many dinners with your parents before, more than either dad wanted, but this one was special. This time, Jake got to be a part of your story in a spectacular way.
Peralta helped you change into your graduation dress, its pink silk dripping over your lazy limbs. You sleepily did your hair and make-up as Jake put on his fanciest button-up and tie. Your boyfriend moved like a 1980s animated cartoon, his feet moving fast while running from room to room making sure that the cupcakes you prepared the night before were neatly packed while also double checking that his dress shoes were perfectly shiny. Your boyfriend’s arms were frantic while ushering you out of the apartment, one hand on the small of your back while the other carried your purse.
He kicked the door shut with his heel and as he whirled his head around you caught his lips in yours, slowing down his rushed heartbeat. The kiss was abrupt but there was a softness to it, something time-stilling about it. The cupcake container you held created a gap between the two of you. The space seemed to stretch for miles, but Jake’s hand never waivered from its place on you waist.
“I love you.” You whispered, planting another kiss on his chin.
“And I love you.” The detective replied with the ‘too’ dropped, because it wasn’t conditional to you loving him but a feeling that he harboured through his entire existence.
The party buzzed throughout the morning. In the midst of Jake helping Kevin prepare his famous rice dish, there were a hundred musings of your childhood: pictures in the kitchen of you and your first spelling bee prize, trinkets of handmade pottery you’ve made for father’s day.
Jake could hear your Uncle Henry embarrassing you in the other room, telling the squad a story from when you were interning at his firm, ‘And she stayed till after closing trying to fix the damn printer so the attorney could present in the morning!’. There was an echo of laughter and Peralta could already imagine your face blushing in a bright cherry shade.
His heart warmed. Jake always enjoyed his visits to your childhood home, especially when it included a slideshow of your baby pictures from your Aunt Janice and peaks into your childhood bedroom. He loved visiting so much that he almost felt guilty for what he was about to do.
On cue, Holt arrived in the room requesting you and the squad to follow him into the kitchen. Soon the kitchen was overwhelmed with detectives, with you placed right in the middle of the circle of officers. “I got a call from Lieutenant Hicks from our neighbouring precinct, there has been a hack on several precinct firewalls causing havoc with missing evidence and perpetrators running free from holding cells. We need to get back to work right away.” The kitchen quickly filled with shots of confused questions and protests, all of which were silenced with another command. “We don’t have time to discuss the details. All units are to report for duty immediately.”
The crowd dispersed with some unsatisfied grumbles. Only you, Jake, and your parents were left standing in the kitchen, the whistle of pots filled the thick silence. There was an immediate look of guilt radiating on Holt’s face. Though your dad usually bore a deadpanned face, you’ve grown to know the different shades of his expressions. “I am so sorry (Y/N), I know you’re walking the stage in a couple of hours but this will likely take up the rest of the morning.” He apologized, bringing in you into a hug. “The squad and I will try our best to make it back for the afterparty at Shaw's Bar.”
“I understand, stay safe you two.” You replied, turning out of your father’s hug to give Jake one. You were used to these inconvenienced instances by now. Even if it were your birthday or your tenth-grade talent show, you understood from an early age that there was always someone in need of saving; that the absence of Holt during bedtime stories meant that he was fulfilling his job.
The walk across from the stage was a lonely one, with only Kevin and some of your distant relatives cheering you on from the sidelines. But you strode confidently through the rest of the celebration, head held high and your pride in yourself never wavering.
After the last of the names were called and the speeches from your professors were finished, you rushed outside to the university gardens with your purple and white New York University graduation gown swaying in the winds. Kevin was the first to greet you, engulfing you in an embrace that almost made your doctorate cap fall. He pulled away excitedly, gifting you a Columbia sweatshirt that had  ‘Professor Holt-Cozner’ embroidered on the sleeve. “I also got us matching lunch bags,” Kevin admitted with a shyness in his voice, “I know it’s not necessarily ‘hip’ to eat lunch with your dad but I hope you will at least give your old man a nod across the cafeteria.” He joked.
You gave him a look, taken aback by his language “Dad, did you just use several informal nouns and an expression within the same sentence for humour reasons?” You teased, giving your father a look.
The two of you shared a smile before the moment was interrupted by a loud ringing coming from your gown pocket. Your eyes scanned the phone screen, there were flashing letters telling you the district attorney was calling. “Hello District Attorney Melvin, what can I do for you?” You greeted, taken aback by the random call. It’s been years since you’ve taken a public case.
You heard a rustling of papers on the other end of the line before the DA spoke ‘(Y/N), thank you for taking my call. I understand it’s been a while since you’ve worked at the office, but I have received a concerning call that a Jacob Peralta was taken into processing at the Seven-Four and is in need of legal representation.’
“The Seven-Four? Has that precinct been hacked as well?” Concern rippled through your body, unable to maintain your composure as you shot worried glances toward Kevin. “Nevermind, I’m on my way. Thank you for the call, Melvin.”
The tips of your toes carried you up the stairs and into the precinct, your legs moving unfamiliarly as you tried to navigate the different levels of the building. You could feel your dad following closely behind you, making sure your dress didn’t snag on anything.
The rest of your family party excused themselves home, the festivities of your day were long forgotten as you let your heart panic with anxiety at what’s to come. You can feel your heart beat rapidly as you made your way towards the interrogation room, guided by a police officer you’d already forgotten the name of. Your mind immediately went towards a million situations, all of which were some version of the worst-case scenario: Was Jake framed for a crime he didn’t commit? How will you be able to defend your way out of this one? Why is the officer leading you towards the roof?
Your feet halted with the soft click of your heels silencing. You only now take notice that Kevin had stopped following you as the officer tipped his hat towards you without another word. Lost at what to do next, you had no choice but to go through the roof door. The Brooklyn night air stuck to your skin, its humidity mixing in with your anxiety sweats.
There on the roof, surrounded by fairy lights and rose petals, stood your boyfriend.
Before you could scold Jake for causing you to panic with another one of his pranks, he silenced your worries with a light touch of your hand. Peralta pulled you into his embrace so that the two of you were touching chest to chest, your body immediately melted into his touch, your mind already forgetting about your other worries.
“There wasn’t an emergency at the precinct was there?” You asked, suspicion lacing your voice as your nose scrunched. For a lawyer, you weren’t very good at deducing the situation.
“Nope,” He admitted smugly, “The Seven-Four: the precinct I worked at before coming to the Nine-Nine and also the day I decided that I wanted to marry you.” Jake was beyond nervous at this point but he wasn’t going to back down now. Despite the slick of his palms and the butterflies erupting in his chest, he continued carrying on with his monologue. “It was the fourth of July and we were celebrating at your uncle’s house. As fireworks blew up in the air, you said that you wanted to host a barbeque ten times as festive as the one he was hosting.” The detective began kneeling down on one knee, reaching into his pocket, “And that was the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, especially coming from someone whose dads are not quite the festive type.” He joked, finally revealing the ring. Jake took a deep breath, the tremble in his fingers giving away his jitters. Even in the months of preparing this ruse and lying about his whereabouts, the gravity of the situation hadn’t hit him until now. “You make everything into a celebration, and I want to be a part of that. (Y/N) Holt-Cozner, will you marry me?”
The air thickened around you and you suddenly couldn’t breathe. You bent down towards Jake, not being able to bear the solo attention for too long. Your eyes began to water, feeling at a loss for words. “Yes,” you whispered. The word sounded like a promise, a spell that engraved your life with Jake’s forever. “Yes, I’d love to marry you.”
The roof terrace erupted in cheers causing you to fall into Jake with surprise. Applause erupted from the squad with your family and friends emerging from hidden corners. Your now fiancé slipped the ring onto your finger and the two of you stood up to accept the many congratulations. The night spurred with energy as tables were quickly set up and Shaw’s Bar was brought up to the top of the Seventy-Fourth precinct.
“So,” You began once you had a moment with Jake alone, “Why the elaborate prank?” Your question held no malice, only amusement your partner’s playful ways.
Jake shook his head with a smile, bringing you closer to plant a kiss on your forehead “For the shock factor Babe, obviously.”
You rolled your eyes playfully, turning your attention to the rest of the squad. Jake was right, you knew that there is always a need for spectacle with him, obviously. And you also knew that your prank loving fiancé meant well; that missing your graduation was just the small price he had to pay for the proposal to go smoothly.
As you chanced a glance at Jake while everyone was taking turns at giving toasts, your couldn’t help but consider yourself so lucky. The detective who helped your father find your family pet, Cheddar, when he got taken away, your best friend who was with you when your parents were going through a rocky time, and your lover when it came to all things celebratory is now your fiancé!
If you had told little (Y/N) that her love for Legally Blonde, Suits, and How to Get Away with Murder would cause her to meet the man of her dreams she wouldn’t have believed you. And even presently, as you stood hugging Jake’s side, you were a little lost for words.
‘Shock factor accomplished.’ You mumbled to yourself with a smile as you pulled the detective closer to you. And you could’ve sworn you saw a ghost of a smile grace on Jake’s face as you did.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Jake and Y/N stood outside of their fathers apartment door after he bailed on them, once again. She could see how tense her brother was, from the frown on his face to the clench in his fist. Polar opposite to how he usually felt. "I have to, or hes going to keep doing it" She whispered an okay before giving his hand a reassuring squeeze, letting him know that she was right there with him, before knocking on the door. A few moments later, the door opened and Roger Peralta looked surprised to see them. "Jake! Y/N! I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the party" he started to say and Y/N could already feel an excuse coming, "I'm subbing for a buddy who's got an early flight, I'm sure you're upset" There it is. "No, actually. I'm not upset at all" She wanted to say something, but Jake was finally standing up for himself and she wasn't going to stop him. "yeah? great" She wanted to wipe the stupid smile off his face, not believing he could be this clueless to think Jake actually wasn't upset. "No, more relieved. You know you were always my hero, but i think i'm finally starting to see you for who you really are. A regional airline pilot whose landings are bumpy as hell and a pretty selfish guy who genuinely doesn't care about being a dad" She couldn't be more proud of her brother and agreed with every word he just said. "Jake, you don't understand. There was a downdraft on the drummondville runway." The Peralta patriarch kept looking at Y/N out of the corner of his eye, feeling uncomfortable under her glare. "It's not my fault" It never is. "Look, i've been making excuses for you my whole life, no matter how many times Y/N told me not to. But you're a pretty crappy father, and until you're ready to be a good one, don't call me" Y/N wanted to jump for joy. She couldn't remember the amount of times she envisioned this moment happening, and to see the shocked expression on their fathers face made it worth the wait.
"Also, im taking your captains hat cause it's cool and I want it" Jake spoke as he reached into the apartment, grabbing the hat from the table that was beside the door, before putting it on. "Go on without me. I'll meet you outside, there's something I need to say" He looked at her as if to say, are you sure? After a reassuring nod, he gave his sisters shoulder a squeeze before heading down the hallway and making his way outside. Not before sending one final glare towards Roger. Y/N waited till she didn't hear Jakes footsteps anymore before turning towards her father once again. "You really messed up this time" Roger went to defend himself, but she held a hand out, not letting him get a word out. "Save it. You're always full of excuses" Y/N couldnt hold her anger back much longer. Years of pent up rage just threatening to burst free. "Jake has been nothing but loving towards you. Even when you don't deserve it. And you show up all of a sudden acting like you want to spend time with him, when all you want to do is use him for your own selfish gain. You should be ashamed of yourself!" "Now hold on..." "I'm not done" He shut his mouth quick enough, surprised at the way his daughter was speaking to him. Y/N was finally letting all of her feelings out and it was making her feel lighter and lighter by the second. "I have spent my whole life trying to protect Jake, and I would like to think i've done a damn good job. So if you don't get serious about being in his life, dont bother coming back. It doesnt matter to me, i've gotten used to you disappointing me, but i'll be damned if I let you hurt him again" Roger Peralta had never felt so put in his place before, but there was also a small feeling of pride. Knowing just how much his children cared for one another. He couldnt think of anything to say, but it didnt matter. Even if he did, he watched as Y/N turn around and walk away at a fast pace, wanting to get away from him as fast as possible. When she got outside, she saw her brother sitting on the front steps of the building with his head in his hands. She carefully approached him and sat beside him on the cold steps, lightly nudging his arm. "Hey, dont think about him, we're better off" He tiredly ran his hands down his face while letting out a long sigh, "I'm so dumb, how could I not see this coming" "Hey, youre not dumb" she protested as she wrapped her arm around is shoulders, not wanting him to feel bad about himself, "you're just a hopeful person, thats a good quality to have" He looked over at her with a small smile, "What did I do to deserve an amazing sister like you" "I dont know, something amazing in a past life" They both laughed before standing up and heading to Y/Ns car, heading back to Shaw's bar where their work family was waiting for them.

jake peralta one-shots chapter two: threats
summary: jake gets threatening phone calls from an enemy and they make him do things that piss everyone off, until one day he is taken by them. there's a ton of angst but fluff at the end!
--
All Jake wanted was a break.
He and Rosa had been working nonstop in what seemed to be an unsolvable case. But they’d been detectives for a while, so they knew that at some point the answer would come around. At the moment, though, Jake would spend most of the time thinking about the case, stressed, and no matter what the conversation was, he managed to end up talking about it and how frustrating it was becoming.
Amy put an end to his paranoia when she surprised him with Die Hard and pizza that night. He really needed to relax. He deserved to. And there was no better way to do it other than spending a night watching his favorite movie with his favorite food and his favorite person.
But Jake didn’t get to relax. “I’m just gonna change my shirt,” he said loudly as he entered their bedroom.
“Okay!” Amy yelled back, waiting for him at the living room.
There was this feeling of excitement in his chest. Amy always knew how to comfort him when a case had him all tense and anxious. It had been a looong week.
Jake had only taken his shirt off when his phone rang. For a second, he imagined it would be Rosa, telling him she’d finally solved the case, and then he chastised himself for immediately going there.
But now – it was a number he didn’t recognize. Jake ignored it and rejected the call, then opening his drawer to pick a shirt. And again, his phone rang.
The same number. Jake rolled his eyes, who was bothering him? He rejected it again, but the third time it rang, a weird feeling of anxiety took over him. What if it did have something to do with the case? What if it was someone calling him to tell him a friend or family was injured?
If it was just an extortionist, he could simply hang up. “Hello?” Jake said after finally picking up the phone.
“Detective Jake Peralta.”
Jake frowned. The voice was distorted, too low. It was somebody trying to hide their identity. “Who’s calling?”
“You’re the reason Marco Silva is in jail.”
Jake’s stomach sank. This couldn’t be good news. “What do you want?”
“I want you to pay back.”
“Who—”
“I’m watching you, Peralta. I’m watching you and your girlfriend. I know all your relatives. I know who you care for, I know who you don’t want getting hurt.”
Jake’s hands were suddenly sweaty, trembling. He couldn’t believe this was happening. “We don’t need to… you don’t have to do this. Let’s discuss this, alright?”
“I didn’t call to negotiate. I called to tell you that I’m getting back at you. I’m going to make your life miserable.”
Jake felt sick. “Okay—don’t…” he took a deep breath, his mind racing with horrible thoughts. “Don’t hurt anyone. Please. I don’t… what do you want me to do?”
“You can start by labelling the case you’re working on as a cold case.”
Jake gulped. “But… it’s not.”
“Don’t you think I know that? Why don’t you fuck it up? Do whatever, just make everyone forget about it.”
“I don’t get to label the cases, I only—”
“God, you are stupid, aren’t you? I’m telling you, do whatever you have to, as long as it remains unsolved. Unless you want me to hurt Amy Santiago.”
Jake’s heart skipped a beat. “No. No, no – don’t you dare. Don’t even say her name.”
As if on cue, Amy’s voice came from the living room. “Babe? Everything okay?”
Jake stared at his phone. Whoever called him had hung up. Jake’s stomach felt uneasy, and the thought of having to go to the living room and pretend everything was okay sounded like a nightmare.
“Yup!” he screamed back, but his voice was all shaky. Amy would figure that something was wrong as long as she saw him. And if she knew, her life could be in danger.
“Alright, think,” Jake told himself, breathing quickly.
Nobody could know about that. Maybe he should just obey. Dropping a case – that wasn’t so hard, was it? It was definitely worth it, if it meant saving his loved ones’ lives.
Jake made his way to the living room and felt worse when he saw the movie was ready to start playing, snacks all over the coffee table. The living room smelled of pizza and candy. And Amy was there, under a duvet, laughing at some picture on her phone. Usually, that would have been Jake’s heaven. But that phone call had taken it all away so suddenly.
“Hey, what took so long?” Amy asked him softly, making room for him on the couch.
“Um, Ames…”
“Something wrong?” she asked, and like Jake predicted, clearly she was already onto him.
“Yeah, I don’t feel so well,” he lied nervously. “I think I’m just too tired. Maybe we could leave this for some other day.”
The disappointment on Amy’s face broke his heart. “Seriously? But… I mean, if you’re too tired, I shouldn’t push you. But I thought this would help you relax.”
“Yeah, yeah, it’s just… I don’t know. I feel really tired.”
“Do you at least want some pizza? You love pizza.”
Jake’s appetite was dead. “I’m not hungry, Ames. I think I’m gonna go to bed…”
Amy seemed surprised. “Alright,” she said. “Are you sure you’re okay? You look a bit pale.”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine,” Jake put on his best smile. “Sleeping will definitely make me feel better.”
Jake didn’t sleep at all, though. He flopped on their bed, laid on his side, and stared at the wall. At some point he heard Amy join him, then felt her weight on the mattress, and her fingers begin to stroke his hair. He always found that soothing, but not that night. He didn’t want anything to happen to her. Or to his mother, or Rosa, or Charles, or Gina, or Terry… there were so many people. So many.
Jake didn’t have an appetite in the morning either, but he knew Amy would get too suspicious if he didn’t eat anything.
He got a second call later in the precinct, and he felt immediately nauseous when he saw the number from the night before. He went into the records room to have some privacy.
“Yes?” he answered nervously.
“How’s that task going?”
Jake sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I just got the precinct, I haven’t even started working on the case.”
“Well, why don’t you hurry before Detective Diaz finds anything, huh?”
Jake’s stomach jumped at the mention of his friend. “I will,” he gritted out.
“I decided it won’t be enough if the case becomes a cold case. I need you to destroy the evidence.”
“What? How would I do that?”
“You figure it out. Get rid of the documents and evidence from that case. You have until the end of your shift.”
“That’s not fair!” Jake huffed, but none of that was fair to begin with. He really just wanted a break.
“Cry me a river. If it’s not done by nine—”
“I’ll do it,” Jake spat before someone else was threatened. His chest was filled with anxiety. “I’ll find a way to do it.”
“Good boy.”
They hung up. Jake wanted to smash his phone on the floor. How could he even destroy the evidence and make it look like an accident? What would Hitchcock and Scully do?
Jake remembered the time Hitchcock accidentally dropped coffee all over a case, and decided to go with that one. He got a cup of coffee from the kitchen, and then went to Rosa’s desk, wiping his sweaty hands on his jeans.
“Hey, Rosa,” he said awkwardly.
She glanced at him. “’Sup.”
“So uh… I was thinking. I could take a look at those files again. From the case.”
“What for? Did you find anything?”
“No, but… maybe I’ll find something this time.”
Rosa scowled, staring at him, and Jake felt incredibly nervous upon her gaze. The bad thing about all of his friends being detectives was that he couldn’t really hide anything from them.
“You alright, dude?” she asked. “You look like shit.”
“Ouch?”
“You can take a break from this case, you know. It’s driving you insane.”
“It’s not driving me insane,” Jake scoffed. “I just want to take a look at the files, can I not?”
Rosa scoffed too. “Fine. But I’ll check them out too. I got nothing else to do.”
Jake’s stomach turned as Rosa got the files and made her way to the briefing room. They’d gathered some data and pictures on a board, and all Jake could think of was that he’d have to ruin all of that evidence too.
He placed his coffee cup near the files on the table, then realized Rosa was saying something to him. Jake was sure that even if he’d tried, he wouldn’t have been able to pay attention.
“You sure you’re alright?” Rosa asked him. Her tone was flat as it always was, but he knew she was worried, at least enough to ask whatsoever.
“Yeah,” Jake said, frowning as if he didn’t know what she was talking about, but he was aware that he probably looked terrible because he hadn’t slept.
“Did you hear anything of what I said?”
“No…”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re the one who wanted to look at the case.”
“I’m sorry. Just tell me again.”
“Whatever. It didn’t matter.”
Rosa’s eyes then got lost in the pictures in front of them, and Jake recognized her expression: she’d just figured something out.
“Holy shit,” she muttered.
Jake then decided he couldn’t let her get any further with that, and pretended to stumble backward, dropping the coffee all over the files.
Rosa’s eyes went wide. “You idiot!”
“Sorry!” Jake stammered, and then she punched him on the arm. “Ow! That was an accident!”
Rosa growled angrily, picking the folder to check the files. “You’re lucky they’re just wet,” she huffed.
Fuck. They were still readable. He couldn’t let that happen, he couldn’t. “Let me see them,” Jake said, and tried to snatch them away from Rosa, but she held onto them, confused.
“No, dude, you already ruined them.”
“I want to see them,” Jake insisted, and pulled from the files.
Rosa pulled harder though, bewildered. “Hey, what the fuck, Jake?”
“Let me see them!” he yelled.
“You’re going to ruin them, you idiot!”
“Just give them to me!”
Suddenly, the paper ripped in half, weak because of the coffee. Rosa and Jake froze for a second, and then she glared at him furiously.
“What the fuck, Peralta?!”
Jake’s stomach twisted. Sure, this was all for his friends’ sake, but he didn’t like to put Rosa in a bad mood, as if she hadn’t been stressed about the case too.
“Oops,” Jake said dumbly.
“What’s going on in here?!” Terry’s voice boomed from behind Jake, and he startled, turning around to find his very angry sergeant.
“This idiot just destroyed all the files we had!” Rosa yelled angrily.
“Damn,” Terry said when he saw the state of the documents. “What the hell happened?”
“It was an accident!” Jake squealed.
Rosa exhaled sharply, hitting the table with her fist. “You’re so stupid sometimes,” she growled at Jake, and then stormed off.
Jake stayed there, feeling like the stupidest person in the world. Terry only gave him an odd look before walking away too, and Jake felt his phone buzz in his pocket. It was a text. Well done.
The text didn’t let Jake sleep that night either. He kept wondering how the hell did they knew he’d just destroyed the files? But at least that meant everyone would be alright.
“Babe, are you okay?”
Jake didn’t realize he’d zoned out again. He looked up at Amy, who was pouring herself some coffee. He leaned on the table of the break room, pensive.
“Yeah. I’m fine.”
“You’ve been acting a bit weird since Monday.”
“No I haven’t.”
Amy huffed. “Well… Rosa was really angry because of what you did. She said it looked like you were out of it. And honestly… you do look very distracted.”
“Yeah, the case…” Jake scratched the back of his head.
“Maybe you could just let it go,” Amy suggested, sitting down next to him, and then she placed her hand on his tense own, rubbing with her thumb. “Sometimes that’s what we have to do. It won’t make you any less of the amazing detective you are.”
Jake stared at her sadly. “I love you so much.”
Amy smiled. “I love you too.”
She looked over her shoulder to check that nobody was watching and then kissed his hand. Even if they’d been dating for almost a year now, she still gave Jake butterflies, as cheesy as it sounded.
He watched her walk away to her desk, feeling the world crumble down around him. God, how he wished he didn’t care about her.
Wait… maybe that was it. He could pretend to stop caring about her. He could pretend to get in a fight with her, break up with her. As hurtful as that sounded… at least she would be fine.
Jake almost jumped on his seat when his phone rang again. He was beginning to really hate the sight of that stupid phone number on his screen.
He thought about answering with a ‘what do you want?’ but he couldn’t risk making someone who was threatening him mad. “Hello?”
“I have another task for you.”
“What is it?” Jake asked, nervous. “I got rid of the evidence, like you asked me to. Rosa dropped the case—”
“I know you and Detective Boyle are doing a bust today. I want you to injure him.”
Jake’s throat knotted. “What?”
“You heard me. Hurt him.”
“But…”
“What sounds better? Him being dead, or him having a broken leg? Your pick.”
Jake could see Charles working at his desk, with an absent-minded smile. His mind filled with awful images of his best friend being hurt.
“I get it,” Jake breathed. His stomach hurt. “I’ll… I’ll do it, but… why?”
“You don’t get to ask questions. You just follow orders. And don’t you just punch him in the face. Injured him badly.”
Before Jake could say anything else, they’d hung up again. He looked at Charles again, and his eyes teared up at the thought of anything bad happening to him. But he would be the culprit. He was the one who had to hurt him.
“Everything alright, Jakey?”
Jake snapped back to reality. Charles was at the wheel, glancing at him worriedly. “Yeah. I zoned out, sorry.”
“Don’t worry. You wanna play some music?”
“No, it’s fine. Hey, um… why don’t you tell me about your latest food obsession?”
Charles gasped excitedly, and immediately began rambling about some kind of pasta. Jake felt so bad. So, so bad. But at least he could try to butter it up for him.
Minutes later, they were knocking on the door of a man named Julius Moore. He was a fraud. “NYPD!” Charles yelled.
Julius opened the door a few seconds later. “Good morning,” he said, frowning. “What can I help you with?”
“We just want to ask a few questions,” Jake said, his hands near his handcuffs, and Julius seemed to notice, because the next thing he did was slam the door on their face.
“Shit,” Charles hissed before charging against the door to burst in.
“Freeze!” Jake demanded, but that just a habit. Criminals never obeyed.
“Where is he?!” Charles yelled as he looked around the apartment, which now seemed empty, as if Julius had vanished.
“Let’s split,” Jake suggested.
Charles nodded, and they began looking for the criminal. But Jake couldn’t help to think that his perfect chance to hurt Charles was right there. It made him feel like a monster. What would he do? Graze him with a bullet? No. No. Tackle him. Pretend you mistook him for the criminal.
Jake took a deep breath as he watched Charles go down the hallway, pointing with his gun, and then charged against him. Charles could only yelp. There was a crack.
“My leg!” Charles cried.
Jake’s heart skipped like three beats as he got off Charles, panicked. “Fuck!” his mouth was completely dry. He was lightheaded. “Charles, are you okay?!”
“Why did you do that?!” Charles whined, and Jake had never heard him talk to him like that. Everyone always joked about how Jake could probably push Charles off a stairwell and he’d forgive him anyway. But that didn’t seem to be the case.
“I’m so sorry,” Jake said, numb.
He felt Julius run behind him, and he turned around only to watch him escape through the window. “Fuck!” Jake yelled. He needed an ambulance.
Everyone was staring at him weirdly when he went back to the precinct. They definitely knew what Jake had done, and he was aware of how stupid it made him seem, not to mention he’d also ruined the evidence ‘by accident’. At that rate, he was going to get himself fired. Jake was even surprised that Holt didn’t scold him or suspend him, but he did seem pretty disappointed, which somehow felt worse.
“He really could use a day off,” he heard Terry say inside Holt’s office. “To get his head straight.”
Jake sighed and walked to his desk before he could hear Holt’s answer. It would probably be something hurtful, and he didn’t want to know. The way Amy kept glancing at him wasn’t helping, either.
“Why the long face?” Gina asked him later in the break room. “Is it because you massively screwed up two cases in the span of two days?”
Jake glared at her. “Ha-ha.”
“You’re not looking too hot, Jakester,” she noted. “Something’s up with you.”
Jake sighed. “Can everyone stop saying that? Nothing’s up. I’m just very tired.”
“That’s evident.”
He just rolled his eyes and ignored her. He knew everyone had noticed his weird behavior at this point, but they didn’t know he was just trying to keep them safe.
He got another message. Good job.

jake peralta going on a blind date that boyle set up but she’s actually completely his type
literally the love of my life tysm for the request
-
"No. No. No. No. No. No. No. And did I mention, no!" Jake says exasperatedly. "You see, I knew you would say that which is why I already set up the date with her." Charles rebuttals. He tells him your name as he taps rhythmically on Jake's desk. "She's thirty-two, she loves herself some Tay-Tay, and her favorite soup is crab bisque. I met her in my hot goat yoga class." "Ew, what." "Yeah, I'm hearing how that sounds now. But still, I think you'd like her. Who knows, by the end of the night you may just be smushing booties." Jake groans, "God, Boyle, don't say smushing booties." "Right, yeah, yep," He picks up the file from Jake's desk, turning to the man as he walks away, "Shaw's Bar, 8 o'clock."
Charles turns back around and bumps into Terry as he walks to his desk. He groans as he crushes his yogurt cup in his hand, "Damnnit, Boyle." "Sorry," He says as he backs toward the exit of the bullpen. He rapidly clicks the close button once inside the elevator, evading Terry's angry gaze. "Jake sighs as he looks back at his computer.
"So, hot date tonight, huh?" Amy asks as she leans around their computers to smirk smugly at him. "Uhm, no. I'm not going," He says, his eyes not leaving the screen as he types mindlessly. "What? Why not? Charles says she's perfect for you." "Exactly: Charles thinks she's perfect for me. Knowing him she's either some hot goat yoga-loving freak, or-" "Or actually perfect for you. I think you should give it a shot. I mean, you're constantly complaining about how horribly dull your love life is," Jake frowns, "Hey, now, I wouldn't say horrible dull-" "Yes you would, and you have. Now no more fighting, you have a date to get ready for." Jake looks at the time at the bottom right corner of his monitor and sighs, "All right, fine. But when this all goes to total shit, I'm blaming you." Amy rolls her eyes with a grin and opens the next file from her stack as Jake makes his way to the elevator.
-
The bell rings as Jake opens the door to Shaw's Bar, his free hand shoved in his jacket pocket. The warm, boozy bar air fills his nostrils as he steps toward the bar, the glass door closing slowly behind him. He looks around the bar, hoping to instantly recognize the mystery woman, to no avail.
The bell rings again as Jake asks Hank for an orange soda on the rocks. The bartender sighs exhaustedly as he pulls the Crush can out of the mini fridge from behind the bar. "Jake?" A voice asks as someone taps him on the shoulder. He turns around, and his mouth opens and closes like a fish as his brain short-circuits. "Or not?" You laugh awkwardly, "I'm really sorry about this, I was told someone would be here, but it looks like he stood me up." You sit one chair over at the bartop, sighing as you rest your chin on your fist.
"Hi," Jake says as he hold out his hand, "I'm Jake." "Oh," You breathe, "Sorry. You didn't say anything and I just thought- Y'know what, never mind, I'm probably not what you were expecting." Jake smiles, "Well, you're right there. Charles told me he met you in a 'hot goat yoga class'." You cringe slightly, "I honestly didn't even know his name, I walked into the wrong building and he started talking to me about his friend Jake." "Sounds about right." You both laugh and he moves to the chair between you.
"So, my weird friend tells me you like Taylor Swift," Jake starts and the conversation lasts hours, the orange soda on the countertop left completely ignored. "All right, time to wrap it up. The bar's closing." Hank says as he wipes the counter. "Oh my god, how long have we been here?" Jake asks him, surprised. The bartender ignores him as he moves on to another part of the bar. You look around to find the bar completely empty.
You laugh quietly, "This was fun," You say softly as you exit the bar, "We should do this again-" You're cut off by a sudden surprising kiss, Jake's hands holding your cheeks gently to keep you close. Your eyes flutter closed and take the collar of his shirt in your fists. He pulls away, mumbling out a quick 'noice' before getting pulled back into a kiss that leaves him gasping for breath.

Learning takes time
Jake Peralta x f!reader - fluff with a hint of angst
Tumblr media
★ Summary: Jake Peralta becomes a girl dad, and he has to learn something new every step of the way.
★ Word count: 3.8k (I always think I write WAY more than I do)
★ Proofread: no :)
★ Warnings: cutie patooties being cuie patooties? and english is not my first language and the timeline is weird at some point
★ Note: Anon this is so good I'm LIVING for jake peralta as a girl's dad! And I know you said Amy but I didn't realized that until like halfway writing this but I hope is not too bad anyways. Also some parts are based on my boyfriend's little brother and my baby cousin so shot out to them.
★ In The Beggining ★
When Jake became a dad he couldn't believe his eyes. The beautiful baby he held in his hands was HIS, she had a part of him in her. Like, DNA or somethign. And she was adorable. She definitely took a lot from her mother, who was now resting after 49 hours of delivery. Y/n has said the moment she held her that she was definitely going to take after him, fighting like she had been for staying near Y/n for a bit more. Jake knew she was joking but who was he kidding, his wife was so right. But now the baby was here. The baby. The small, little, minuscule person he had been waiting for for the last 8 months, since they foud out Y/n was pregnant after she refused to eat popcorn because they had been upsetting her stomach lately. It was Jake who had figures out what happened, realizing his wife would never turn down popcorn and that she hadn't had her period that month. And them BOOM! She's pregnant, 8 months go by in a flash and now he is holding her. Wow. He snuggled a little bit closer to her although he knew it was becoming impossible to be nearer, but it felt like heaven. A piece of heaven at least. She definitely was an angel. His girl. His girls, because Y/n was starting to be awake and spoke with a rough voice of screaming so much the past 2 days.
'Hello love' Jake said with a blinding smile on his face. 'Hi, handsome' she said smiling, tired but happy. Jake got close to the bed and sat on it, handing the little bundle of love to Y/n. She looked at the baby with the same affection and adoration as Jake, but then she seemed to remember something and looked at him, looking a little bit stressed. 'Jake' she called him, gaining his attention and making him stop looking at the baby. 'Yep?' he asked tentatively, worried about the look on his wife's face. 'We haven't chosen a name for her yet!' she exclaimed whispering at the same time, and Jake seemed to realized that too. 'Oh, shoot!' he said while she just nodded along 'We really have to!' he continued. 'You don't say!' Y/n retorted. They both looked down at the small person in Y/n's arms. 'How could we forget something so important?' she asked. 'I have no clue. Who even forgets putting a name to their daughter?' he moaned.
To be fair, they had been looking for a name since the day they foud out they were having a daughter, but nothing had shined as the perfect name. 'Maybe now that we see her face we can think of something' he proposed, and Y/n just looked at him sourly 'What? What did I say?' he asked then. 'Jake darling the problem isn't not having ideas, is having a good one and actually agreeing in one for once!' she said, half scolding him for the names he had suggested the past few months. 'The names I said weren't that bad' he defended himself. 'Should I remind you that you wanted to name our daughter Johanna after McClain?' she told him 'It's brilliant!' Jake exclaimed. 'Jake we are not going to name our daughter after a guy doing thingies in a building on Christmas!' she exclaimed back. 'Hey, take that back! I never said anything when you suggested Beth because of Little Women!' he retorted. 'Maybe because that's a sensible name' she argumented, finishing off the conversation saying 'Maybe now that we can see her we can think of a name' she said, and they both turned to look at the sleeping baby.
'She's cute' he said. 'Of course she's cute, she's ours' she turned to look at him smiling, and a lightbulb seemed to appear above Jake's head. 'That's it! he said, happily. 'What's it?' Y/n asked, confused about her husband's behaviour. 'Adelaide' he stated. A few seconds of silence were followed by a 'what??' coming out of Y/n's mouth. 'Think about it, I'm a genius!' Jake continued, starting to pace around the room like he was solving a vital case 'We've always talked about wanting to go to Adelaide, and it was where went for our honeymoon. Plus, is not too long because we can call her Addie but it would still sound good in a professional setting when she grows up! It's perfect!' he sentenced. Y/n pondered the information about a few seconds that felt like hours for Jake, who wanted his wife agreement on that. 'Okay, you ARE a genius' Y/n said after the everlasting silence. Jake bounced a bit before going back to the hospital bed, where he looked at his baby and at his wife, who was focused on her baby with a satisfied look on her face. 'Adelaide' he said, looking at the little girl fondly. 'Addie... damn it does sound good' Y/n said, also trying out the name. And after a moment of tranquility, peace and quiet, Y/n looked at Jake again and talked again 'you do know we still need a second name right?' All Jake coul do was groan a bit while Y/n laughed at the defeated attitude of her husband. There were going to be some difficult years for Jake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
★ First times ★
Life as a father had challenged Jake in ways he couldn't imagine. Changing diapers had probably traumatized him forever, and he learnt that bathing a baby was not too far from just bathing himself, especially when Addie started becoming more aware of her surroundings and she started splashing everywhere and Y/n and Jake were wet from head to toe after giving her a bath. But the worst for Jake hadn't been the diapers or the first times eating new foods where Addie decided to just throw food absolutely everywhere, no - the worst were the first steps.
Jake knew he was supossed to be excited about his daughter's first steps. And the first ones were no problem - she stumbled a bit and fell about a million times and then cried for about 20 minutes before settling down, but that wasn't out of the usual and him and Y/n were over the moon - the problem came when she dominated the art of walking, and then the practice of running.
Every time they let her out of the trolley in the park, Jake had sore knees from chasing her around. She would just run and run until she tripped or slipped and then she ended up on the floor. And there were times in which she just stood up and Jake had to chase her again. But there were others in which she would truly hurt herself, and then Jake became the most soft man known. He would go sprinting to her, checking everywhere for blood because she knew she got nervous when she saw it, and then taking her and cuddling her for some time, telling her she would be ok and that daddy was with her. Y/n had told him a million times that he was spoiling her a little bit, and that she Addie had to learn to get up by herself and not cry every time she fell because then she would always do that and she had to learn to not go to dad every time something happened to her because she knows that he would give her everything he wanted if she cried a bit. Oh, what a cruel mother! Trying to give her child a small amount of reality and helping her grow up not spoiled! How dared she! Jake actually agreed with her, and he really, REALLY tried to not go to her everytime she fell, but to no avail. In each time she stumbled upon the groud, Jake would be by her side in less than 5 seconds. He couldn't bear to see her cry like that! And yes, maybe Y/n was the most sensible one for not running everytime and assessing the situation first because she honestly knew that falling in grass didn't hurt much, but he couldn't help himself. His dad had never been there for him, but now it was his turn to be there for his daughter when she fell. Even if it meant being scolded by his wife later on. At least he knew he was Addie's favourite for those things, and that she would always go to daddy when she got hurt.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
★ Not-so-professional professional stylist ★
Addie liked her dad for some things, but she would always go to her mom for others. Like getting her hair done. Jake had tried to learn how to do Y/n's hair a few times during their relationship, but given he had failed the times he had tried, he decided to let the hair department to Y/n. Actually, scratch that. He had done it because, you know, he was a nice husband and father and wanted her wife and daughter to hame some quality ttime together. Yeah, that sounds quite nicer.
But some days, Y/n left earlier, and if she didn't have time to do Addie's hair, Jake had to do it. Those days, Addie's hairstyles where much simpler than the ones that Y/n did, and the girl never complained. But Jake knew she was a bit sadder when she didn't have her mom to do her hair with the braids and other thingies Y/n did to her and that she liked so much. And, being the amazing dad he wanted to be, Jake decided that he was going to learn how to do those things for her.
He started learnign when Addie was on kindergarten, practising on Y/n's hair, who was equally excited about the idea and taught him how to do the hairstyles she did to Addie while letting him do them on her hair. Jake learnt the ones that Addie liked the most, and the practised every night. When his daughter was in elementary school, he was pretty good at them. So, one of the days that Y/n had left earlier, Jake decided to try one of them on Addie.
'Hey, princess?' he called her while she was brushing her teeth. She was so grown up that he foud it hard to believe he had held her in her arms on her first ever day on earth. Cool, cool cool cool. 'Yes?' she answered, rinsing her teeth. 'Can I try a new hairdo on you today?' he asked, while Addie turned around to see him. 'Why?' she asked, trying to figure out if her dad was about to turn her hair blue. 'Well, because your mom has taught me a few and I want to try one out' he explained, hoping she would trust him. 'Okay' the girl decided after a few minutes of thinking it through. He was about to hug her when she spoke again 'BUT if you turn my hair any funky colour I'm telling mom' she said. Jake smiled fondly while hugging her, relizing how much she spoke liker her mom. 'Please don't, she would ground me' he joked, letting Addie go. 'Yeah, she better, I can't go around with pink hair or something, Aunt Ames would have a heart attack' she said while sitting on the chair Y/n used to do her hair. Jake laughed a bit. She definitely also have part of his personality on her.
After 20 minutes of carfeully doing his daughter's hair, Jake stepped back to look at it. It looked exactly like the aroud 2000 times he had tried it on Y/n's hair. But the judge wasn't him; it was Addie. 'You can go look now if you want' Jake told her, nervous. Nervous. He was nervous about the opinion of a 9 year old. When had he become like that. Addie walked slowly to the mirror with her eyes close, and then opened one of them, tensed about what she could find. But then she opened both of them when realization starting hitting her. 'Do you like it?' he asked her, smiling a bit. 'Dad, it's like the ones mom does on me!' she giggled, turning a bit o look at it from behind. She then hugged her dad tightly, overjoyed 'Thanks for learning how to do this, dad' she spoke softly. Okay, definitely worth it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
★ Playtime ★
There were many things that Jake wasn't precisely a fan of as a girl dad. But there were some other that he strangely liked, and one of them was playing with her daughter and her dolls.
The dolls were impeccable for aroud 2 months, but then Addie started playing right with them, as Jake said, and the dolls would end up painted, half-bald and with interchanged clothes. Y/n tried to convince her daughter to take more care of the dolls, but to no avail. And Jake couldn't care less about the state of the dolls. What amazed him was the stories her daughter would make up with them. No soap opera could compete with the dramatic storylines of Addie.
One of the times when Jake arrived from a case happy, he sat to play with her, being ready to try to assimilate the far-fetched stories her kid made up. And oh, my, it was probably the best story he had ever heard. And mini Shakespeare was aroud 5 at the time. Jake had the best daughter ever.
'Hi Ads' he greeted her. Addie looked up to see her dad sitting with her. 'Daddy!' she exclaimed, having been so engrossed on the dolls that she hadn't realized her dad was with her. She hugged him and the sat on his laps, between his crossed legs, like she did with everyone in that position. 'So, tell me, what are you playing to?' he asked, interested in what could the story be this time. 'Do you want me to tell you the story?' she asked excitedly, with eyes shining with emotion. 'Of course!' Jake answered, and she got up from his lap to show him the characters of her story. 'This' she said, taking a blonde Barbie on her hand 'is Lady. This' she took a red haired Barbie 'is Rosa' she said. 'Like Aunt Rosa?' Jake asked. 'Exactly!' Addie said, even though Jake knew she named her toys after everyone she knew because she could never remebmer more names. 'And this is Carlos' she showed Jake a dark haired Ken. 'Carlos?' he asked, pretty sure they didn't know a Carlos. 'Mom told me the name, it's a driver or something and mom says my Ken looks like him' she shrugged her shoulders and Jake focused on the doll until he realized his wife had put Carlos to the doll after Carlos Sainz. Goddamit, that guy was everywhere if Y/n was aroud. 'Is there any more characters in the story?' Jake asked, knowing his daughter always forgot one or two. 'Oh, yeah!' she said, taking another Ken 'This is Paolo, he's Carlos brother'. 'Paolo?' he asked. 'From Friends. dad!' maybe they shouldn't let her watch so much TV, she was learning things. 'Come on, tell me the story' Jake invited her. And so the story began.
Apparently Lady and Rosa had been friends for like, forever, but then Lady met Carlos. And Rosa was like, totally ok with it, but actually, SHE WAS NOT OKAY WITH IT (shock) because she had liked Carlos for way longer, like 2 months or so. So Rosa planned on stealing Carlos from Lady, but on like a bar or something where she was with Lady and Carlos she met Paolo and they were like totally in love and they kissed! (oh my god they kissed!) So the four of them were happy together and they even moved together, but one day Rosa came late from work and foud Lady, Carlos and Paolo having a sleepover without her! Can you believe it? (how dare they) So obviously she was like super sad so she left, and Paolo left the country because he was like SO in love with Rosa and didn't want to be with anynone else so he left to Italy and became the Pope. (Can you just become the Pope?) And then Rosa killed Lady and Carlos for having a sleepover and not telling her and she also left to go live in Mexico because she liked the beach. The end.
Jake was doumbfounded. That had took a dark twist. But Addie had a big smile on her face like she had told him that she had had pizza for dinner, so her dad just patted her in the head a bit scared, and got up from the floor to go to talk to his wife. 'Did Addie tell you what her dolls are up to lately?' he asked Y/n, who was on the couch reading Vogue. 'She told you the Lady-Rosa-Carlos-Paolo thing?' she asked, not even looking up at him. Jake dropped on the couch, still shocked. 'And you are like, ok with it?' he asked. She dropped the magazine to a side and look at him. 'Of course not, I have already told her something' Her husband sighed. 'Oh, good, what did you tell her?' he asked, wanting to be on the same page about what to tell her. 'That Carlos would NEVER have a sleepover with someone behind other people's back!' she said, like what her daughter had done had been the most offensive thing ever. Jake looked at her and then they both started laughing, with Addie looking confused at them from the other side of the living room. Jake should most definitely tell his coworkers not to talk about cases around her anymore, she was starting to pick things up.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
★ The end of an era ★
'I just can't believe you're going to high school next week!' Jake exclaimed, watching his daughter get ready to leave. 'Dad, you gotta assume I'm 14 and I'm starting to leave the nest, you should talk to someone about this' she said, with the quick humour she had learnt in the last years. 'Your mom is a therapist, I have already talked to her about this and she says that this is a total normal reaction to a child advancing on school level' he retorted. 'Mom is also facing the change, maybe you should talk to someon ELSE' she got back at him, putting her hair in a braid that now she knew how to do alone. 'Yeah, but your mom is completely objective and would never lie to me' he said again. 'Dad' she said, turning away from the mirror to look at him 'mom also tells you that she doesn't hate Die Hard, maybe you should reconsider if what she tells you is always the truth' she clapped back. Damn she was good. 'Okay' he admitted his defeat. 'But I'm still kinda sad about you going to high school'. Addie sighed, and made her way out of the bathroom, taking her dad by the wrist and taking him to the couch, where she sat him and she went to sat on the armchair that was nearer to the couch.
'So, tell me, why is it that you are so scared about me going to high school?' she asked him, reclining back on the armchair. Jake looked at her with a surprised expression 'Are you therapizing me or something?' he asked. 'Yep' her daughter confirmed, gesturing him with the hand to start talking. Jake sighed, knowing that her daughter was smart and if he didn't tell her what what on his mind, she would eventually figure it out... ot she would ask her mom to ask him. 'I...' he started, not knowing where to begin 'I'm scared to see you leave. I know high school is not such a big deal and your'e not going to college yet or anything, but it's the last step. We don't do much things together anymore, and I'm realizing I can't stop time or make it go slower, and I definitely can't go back to do your hair or play with your dolls or running after you when you started to walk. And maybe we grow more distant the years you have left here, and the you'll leave for Standford, which is quite far away from here, and you'll move to the West Coast for a job and then we'll only see you on Christmas and you'll only call your mom and we'll never be you and me anymore, you know?' he told her. It was weird having to tell his own daughter all those things, but he knew it was for the best. When he stopped looking to the floor, he realized Addie had glossy eyes. He inmediately went to her and hugged her tightly. Some things never change.
When they let go of each other, the girl was the first one in talking 'Dad, I didn't know you felt like I never do things with you' she said. Jake smiled softly and wiped the tears from his daughter's face. 'I never told you, Ads' he said. She composed herself again and spoke 'Let's have a movie night every week' she proposed 'we choose a movie each week and we watch it, the both of us. It can be our thing!' she said, excitedly. Jake nodded. 'Of course, princess' he agreed, hugging her again. 'I love you, dad' he heard through the hug. 'I love you too, Ads' he answered her. She was still part of him.

What are you doing here? - Jake Peralta x Male! Santiago! Reader (One Shot)
Tumblr media
"Heyy, hi handsome, how are you?" M/n smirked as he sitted on the chair beside Jake's desk.
Jake looked at the unknown man with a soft smile. He seemed kind of drunk and flirtious. "I'm okay." His smile growed. Nobody was around him, and he didn't look like a future prisoner.. but Jake always decided not to judge him, as they barely met. "What are you doing here, huh?"
"My name is M/n McClane, I'm a secret.." He got interrupted.
"This is M/n. He is my brother, we went out to drink.. He thinks he is on Die Hard. My brother is the 'creative person' from my family.." Amy rolled her eyes while making M/n walk with her until they got in the elevator. He winked at Jake, smiling one last time before they both left the place.

Jake Peralta x Reader - A whole year with Jake Peralta, from start to finish [1.9K Words]
Summer had made its way to New York City. The Saturday morning brought a certain busyness into the city. With the warming weather, Brooklyn is filled with friends meeting each other for brunch and tourists enjoying their vacation time at the park. You should be among them, your stomach yearning for a croissant from your favourite bakery and a cup of something other than stale coffee. But alas when your friend Terry Jeffords calls in for a favour, you answer.
You stepped into the unfamiliar precinct; the upper floor filled with detectives despite the sunny weekend. You were immediately greeted by Jeffords who was already making his way towards you with a latte and pastry baggy. You sighed in contentment graciously taking the treats in your hands and a bite of the fluffy bread.
“Thank you for coming in on your weekend off, our precinct sketch artist is out sick and one of my detectives really needs help.” The sergeant explained, quickly bringing you towards a detective desk. “This is Detective Jake Peralta; he has a witness coming in an hour for the 17th Street bank robbery. I offered my talents but, the last time that happened, it didn’t turn out so well.” There was a knowing look exchanged between the detective and sergeant.
Terry stepped away leaving you and Jake alone. You greeted him with a small Hi before making yourself comfortable in the detective’s extra chair. The detective gave you a small nod in response as you took notice of the sprawled half-completed Rubik’s cube and rubber band ball that cluttered his desk. A quiet filled the distance between you, bubbling you together.
“Let me guess,” You start, catching Jake’s attention. “Terry took too long sketching the perp and so one of your detectives asked how long it’ll take. Causing him to get annoyed and leading to…” You scanned the room, your eyes looking for any remains from the incident, “That broken coffee pot.” You concluded with a smug smile on your face while pointing at the evidence.
Jake tried to hide his smirk, bobbing his head in confirmation, “That’s impressive. That coffee pot is new though, how did you figure that out?”
“There was a sale at Goodwin's last week, and I have the same machine at home.” You smiled cheekily before turning your attention back to the buzzing of the office.
Although those sixteen words meant nothing to you, it was the beginning of everything for Jake.
From that moment on, Jake had made it his mission to get closer to you. After your encounter at the precinct, he took every opportunity to have you help out on his case files. After a series of extra-worked weekends and nights going over perp descriptions while picking at microwave nachos, he finally asked you on a real date. One date quickly turned into fifteen more before the two of became an official item in the fall.
The autumn season brought a much-needed routine into Jake’s life. His nights, previously plotless, were now filled with you. He waited patiently outside the 14th precinct for the end of your shift, his hands fidgeting with the drive-in movie tickets in his back pocket. Peralta’s face filled with excitement as he saw your figure rush towards him. His stance slightly wavered as you slammed into him with a hug, a light oof escaping his lips. He pressed a kiss on your forehead before placing another on your cheek, and then a final one on your lips – his touch saying I missed you and It’s been too long.
He tasted like coffee and a hint of peppermint, his calloused hands feeling rough on your cheek. As the two of you parted, your boyfriend wasted no time in revealing the movie he chose for your date. “Thir13en Ghosts?” You exclaimed in horror, eyes widening. “Jake, I thought we were going to watch a romantic movie.” You whined, your stomach already squirming at the thought of the potential gore and jump scares.
“Sweetheart I tried, but it’s October in New York and these were the only tickets available.” Jake's eyes pleaded, bringing your closer to his chest. “It’ll be fine. I’ll protect you; I promise.”
And Jake did.
Although you had spent most of the time watching the vivid horror scenes behind the windows of your fingers or behind the comfort of your shared blanket, Jake spent the entire hour and twelve minutes watching you. He couldn’t help but marvel at the way you instinctively turned into the comfort of his chest when a creepy figure appeared, or how you shut your eyes tight into his shoulder when you heard a scream. He kept his arm wrapped around you the entire time, even during the ride home and when the inevitable nightmares visited while the two of you slept in a shared bed that night.
If Jake had to choose his favourite sound in the world, it would be a tie between the beat of your heart and the whisper of your steady breath. He could feel both as you cuddled each other in sleep. With his insomnia getting the best of him, Peralta spent the night brushing the scrunch of your brows with his thumb, soothing your wild mind. He did feel slightly guilty for putting you through that scary movie, but he knew he’d make it up in other ways later on.
Winter arrived soon and as Jake predicted, he has thoroughly made up for your Halloween scare in a number of ways. One of which included bundling you in his scarf as the snow had blanked your figures on New Year's Eve. You walked into Shaw’s Bar; Jake following closely behind with a palm firmly placed on the small of your back. Though you abandoned your jacket on a bar stool, you kept Jake’s wool scarf tightly wrapped around your shoulders as if it would ward off any dangers. The clock stroke eleven signalling only an hour left until New Year’s.
“You guys sure took your time getting here,” Charles quipped handing each of you a beer, “Too busy smashing booties?” The detective teased, wiggling his eyebrows. Both you and Jake groaned at the innuendo, washing down the awkwardness with liquid courage. Boyle shrugged his shoulders unbothered by the situation, “Think whatever you want, we all know you were doing it.” The squad assembled together quickly at Boyles claim, adding their own remarks before the conversation changed to a discussion of resolutions and a sharing of drinks.
As the crowd buzzed with bets on who was going to get the most wasted and tipsy declarations of NO, I HAVE THE BEST BUTT OF THE NINE-NINE from the boys, Jake took the opportunity to pull you away from your hushed conversations with the girls. The room rang with a loud shout from the oasis of officers who began the countdown to the next year.
“Ten, nine, eight,…” The entire bar screamed as Jake pulled you in close, a drunken murmur of how good you looked in your dress escaping from his tongue.
“Seven, six, five…” You heard Diaz howl as she pounded back another drink, but you could only focus your attention on the look that Jake was giving you. His brown eyes were glassy dripping in colours of molasses, shining despite the darkness of the bar.
“Four, three…” Your lips couldn’t wait, your hands found the collar of the boy’s jacket before the clock had the chance to chime at midnight. Your mouths connected as the countdown finished, cheers ringing in the New Year. You smiled into Jake’s lips as you felt him kiss you back.
Jake’s hands melted into your body just like the snow did for the city’s eventual Spring. The roads were wet with dew and the season brought you much heartache. You’ve never responded to change well. So when you were transferred to another precinct across town, you found yourself overwhelmed. The wind picked up and guided you towards the subway where you’d had the worst morning of your life.
“Two men?” Rosa clarified, anger dripping through her tone. “What kind of cowards robs a woman at an underground subway stop?” She continued, venom dripping in her words. “If they were real men, they would come to fight us on the surface.”
You shook your head, shying away from the cleaning swab Amy was trying to place on your forehead, “I know it hurts, but try to stay still for a little longer.” Santiago advised as she continued to clean your wounds, carefully bandaging your scrapes.
“Gina texted; Jake is on his way back to the office,” Rosa informed. The fact made you grimace even more.
Your eyes burned from trying to hold back your tears, the last thing you wanted at this moment was to seem weak in a room of seasoned detectives. You cursed to yourself silently, frustrated by your own stupidity and obliviousness. Why couldn’t you just catch a break?
“Hey, we’re going to catch these guys. You don’t have anything to worry about.” Diaz comforted, taking notice of your trembling pout and the frustration radiating from your legs.
The two of you locked eyes, and a mutual understanding was reached as you continued to sit in silence. You turned your focus towards your fingers as you continued to play with the ends of a sweater Gina had lent you, your original top soaked and damaged from the run-in. “Yeah, I know.” You finally breathed in an almost whisper.
The sudden bang of an opening door caught your attention, your eyes meeting with the human embodiment of comfort and sunshine. “Hi,” You greeted weakly with a small wave, “How was the stake out?” You questioned with your humour providing a temporary ice pack for the twisting in your heart.
Once the other officers excused themselves, stepping out of the room, Jake bent down immediately and found your embrace. His knees supported you as you broke down, chest heaving heavily. Small kisses of I got you and Everything is going to be okay were planted on your tear-stained cheeks, his hands rubbing comforting circles on your back. The two of you sat there for what seemed like hours, Jake continuing to whisper comforting words in your ear.
The same guilt from Halloween surfaced in Peralta’s lungs. He should’ve pushed further in his offer to drive you to work, or he could’ve asked Captain Holt to transfer you to his precinct the moment he realized you were overwhelmed. Even with his spiralling, Jake knew that he would make things right again, that he was going to help catch the bad guys like he always did. But for now, his only vow was to be there for you.
Perfect, innocent, ever so lovely you.
You moved in with Jake later that spring, with a transfer to the nine-nine placed simultaneously. Though you were still shaken up, you were thankful that the worst morning of your existence bought you the best mornings for the rest of your life.
Jake caught your line of attention as you chanced a look up from your sketchbook, a blurry scene of charcoal pastels depicting your boyfriend’s frame in the Saturday morning light of your shared living room. You admired the way he held his coffee mug in one hand, with a morning comic in the other. “Hi.” You greeted quietly with sweetness lacing your voice. There was a different softness to your voice this time, one filled with domestic bliss and love.
The boy smiled back at you, eyes trying to capture your sun-kissed freckles, “Hi.”
You knew then that Jacob Jeffery Peralta was the one.
The quiet after his reply filled the air with an electric hum. And as the two of returned your attention back to your books, the same feeling from when you guys had met for the first time swelled again – a bubble encapsulating your journey together into the next season.

Based on this request: Hi ! Is it possible to request something with Aro Volturi, please ? With Aro’s mate (newly found/turned), basically being a smart-ass and sarcastically kicking buts, and Aro behind being so proud behind her (kind of like Jake Peralta, “Chills, literal chills”) ? Thank you very much !
Here you go! I did change it just a little bit to better fit the flow I wanted with the story. *Familiar characters are NEVER mine!*
Fandom: Twilight
Warnings: None? Mentions of training, some fluff. Reader is sassy. Post books/movies.
Pairings/Characters: Aro Volturi x fem!vampire reader, mentions of the other Volturi leaders, The Olympic Coven.
Tumblr media
Aro heard what sounded like two boulders crashing together. It didn't take long for him to realize that two vampires were fighting. Whether it was a real fight or simply training, he didn't know, but he needed to find out. After all, he and his brothers were in Forks to check up on the Olympic Coven. They needed to be certain everything was being handled accordingly.
The three Volturi leaders followed the sound of the fight until they came upon a large open meadow. One of the Cullens was laughing, clearly engaged in a mock fight with another vampire that the Volturi did not recognize. "Come on, Emmett! I thought you were supposed to be the strongest vampire here!" the new vampire sassed. Emmett laughed again.
"You've got newborn strength on your side," he playfully pouted. You scoffed and rolled your eyes. "Excuses. Excuses. If you can't handle me, why don't you just-" you cut off as you turned your eyes on the newcomers. Your red eyes met Aro's and the leader nearly sank to his knees.
Aro prided himself on his composure in all situations but one look at you had his undead heart nearly thundering out of his chest. A sense of loyalty and possessive protectiveness consumed Aro in an instant. There was only one thing it could mean. After thousands of years, Aro had FINALLY found his mate.
"Aro. Marcus. Caius," Carlisle greeted. Edward and Bella, who had been watching the fight, were instantly on edge upon Carlisle's greeting. The two of them were still sharing a "them.vs.us" mentality of the Volturi after nearly 20 years since the incident of the trial about Renesmee. The others had calmed a bit more and Carlisle and Esme had attempted to repair relationships between their coven and the Volturi.
Aro heard Carlisle's greeting, but could not tear his eyes off of you. You cocked your head to the side as a dozen emotions crossed your features at once. Edward grew even more on edge after a moment and Aro was certain he'd read your thoughts. The emotions of newborn vampires are intense beyond measure and Edward was probably worried as to what was about to happen.
"C-Carlisle?" The leader of the coven turned his attention to you, earning a soft growl from Aro. Carlisle froze, glancing between you and Aro for a moment. His eyes lit up in understanding. "Oh. Aro, is she…?" Aro didn't reply so Carlisle turned to Marcus, who nodded after using his gift. "I see. Y/N, this is Aro, a dear friend and one of the leaders of the Volturi. Aro, Marcus, Caius; this is Y/N."
"Well, there goes my sparring partner," Emmett grumbled, causing you to raise a brow at him. "Surely the leaders of the most powerful coven in the world see the need for training?" Carlisle glanced at Aro again. "Of course they do, Y/N. But as Aro's m-" The vampire in question shot Carlisle a look telling him that now wasn't the time. You crossed your arms over your chest and frowned. "I don't like being kept in the dark. What is going on here?"
Everyone in the Olympic Coven tensed as you stared at Aro. He was honestly surprised at your courage. The air grew more tense as you waited for someone to respond. Everyone could see that you were ready to run or fight if someone didn't say something soon. Your newborn emotions were beginning to get the better of you until Jasper sent a wave of calm in your direction. Aro had never been more grateful for the empath.
"You are right, mia regina," Aro began slowly and softly, as if you were a frightened animal. "Stop messing with my emotions, Jasper. I'm in control," you stated before turning your attention back to Aro and asking, "What am I to you? Why are you looking at me like I hung the moon in the sky?" Aro wanted to chuckle. You were intelligent too, or at the very least, highly observant.
"Maybe we should give them a moment," Carlisle softly suggested, "Though Jasper could stay, should he need to." You rolled your eyes again. "Dammit, Carlisle, I am perfectly capable of managing my temper. I'm not some hormonal teenage girl on her period, but if you keep walking on eggshells around me, I'm sure I could convince Jasper to make you feel like one." Used to your sass by that point, Carlisle chuckled and motioned for the rest of the Cullens to leave. Marcus and Caius followed, leaving you and Aro alone.
You turned back to Aro with your arms still crossed over your chest. For a moment, neither of you said a word and Aro could see that you were becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the silence. He didn't want that, so he spoke. "How long have you been one of our kind?" You arched a brow. "A few months. I-I don't have a gift, if that's what you're after. Edward said-"
"That boy is vexing at the best of times and overly dramatic at the worst. He is fortunate I respect my friendship with Carlisle. Yes, the Volturi pride ourselves on our guard and their gifts, but that has nothing to do with this, mi amore." Your face scrunched in an adorable manner as you processed what he said. "Then what is this exactly? Because I'll be honest, I am completely confused as to why one of the leaders of the Volturi is looking at me the way you are now."
"How much have you been taught about the life of a vampire?" You shrugged and answered that Carlisle had taught you quite a bit. "I see, and has Carlisle spoken to you about mates?" You instantly froze. It was obvious that you immediately understood what Aro was getting at. "You don't mean that I-I mean…that I am your mate, do you?" Aro nodded. "You are. Surely you can feel it? Though, with your rather…intense newborn senses, you may not fully understand what it is you're feeling in the moment."
You paused for a moment, staring at Aro intently. Aro, for his part, waited rather impatiently for you to say something. "What happens now?" you finally asked softly. Aro so desperately wanted to order you around. Tell you that you would come to Volterra with him without a fight. But something told him that would not go over well. He didn't want you to be unhappy or feel like you were forced into the situation.
"I understand that the world has a lot to offer to a new vampire. It pains me to think about being apart from you, but if you wish to explore the world for a while after your newborn year is finished, you could. I would ask that you keep in touch, however. Not knowing that you are safe would be…It is not something either of us should wish to experience."
"Or, and hear me out, you could join me?" you suggested. Now that your mind had processed everything, you were able to think rationally. Aro blinked for a moment in surprise before smiling. "I suppose that could be arranged." You beamed up at him, but the smile quickly faded from your lips. Aro was about to ask why when Emmett reappeared, launching himself at you. You caught the bigger vampire by the arm and tossed him deeper into the woods. Then, after blowing a kiss to Aro, you chased after Emmett. Aro watched you go with a look a pride all over his face. That was his mate.
(a/n: I hope this is what you were looking for!)

Epithet Shifted: Zora Salazar
So initially this AU started with me thinking about a swap between Zora and Percy but then I thought "Let's just swap everybody" and here we are. Like canon, Zora's parents were archaeologists who were killed by banzai blasters. Thankfully instead of growing up in the woods as an orphan, she was able to encounter an off-duty police officer who happened to be in the area. The blasters responsible were brought to justice and Zora was adopted by the officer who helped her, eventually, Zora would grow up to be a detective for Sweet Jazz City. When I began thinking about Shift!Zora one of my earliest thoughts was "Jake Peralta but Western" Zora's great at her job but certainly immature and loves teasing and toying with people. She has been reprimanded in the past for not wearing a proper uniform, instead opting for something more cowboy-esque. (I'm not an artist and I don't know clothes but I kinda picture it as a mix between Percy and Zora's canon outfits, a lot of blue and orange) Zora doesn't hate epithets, rather she hates inscribed that wield their epithets with malice towards the innocent. "It's not your fault for being born with a superpower, but it is your fault when you use it to hurt someone."
Granted Zora is not above using her epithet to prank people. Shift!Zora while weaker than her canon counterpart still has a little bit of that same natural talent and is stronger than canon Percy. This version of Zora can't manipulate a living thing's lifespan but she can still do much of the same things just a bit on a smaller scale. A technique she often uses is shooting her gun and using her epithet to make the bullet fly faster "I can make ya get shot even faster!" Zora showers semi-regularly but still has a strong natural musk despite it.
In her free time, Zora likes watching cowboy movies/shows and camping.
When Zora talks to Sylvie after the Museum Arc she has a suspicion that he isn't being totally honest with her but decides it's best not to push it.
Her foray into Redwood Run begins when she spots someone (Lorelai) FREAKING FLYING towards that direction and decides to investigate, finding a whole town filled with Banzai Blasters. Since she still has a hatred of them, for ya know, killing her parents, she sorta gets a little trigger-happy.

Pairing: Jake Peralta x Female!Reader
Warnings: Friends to lovers; LOTS of teasing, slow burn?, Smut; Creampie; Dirty talk.
Request:Could you do a Jake Peralta x Reader work partners to hookup? Like they’ve been work partners forever, until one night way too late at the bar they hook up? And realize “oh fuck maybe i do like him like that?”
A/N: Hi, my loves! I´m not dead I swear. Here's the first Peralta smut, hope everyone enjoys. 🍒
English is not my first language - My requests are open!
"How much longer is this going to take?" Peralta's agitated voice echoed through the dark alley as he paced back and forth, his restless energy practically bouncing off the walls.
I understood his frustration; we'd been waiting for what felt like hours, when in reality, it had only been about forty minutes. Compared to the nearby street, this alley was dark and dank; graffiti adorned the walls, and the air smelled faintly of waste. At the end of it stood an abandoned store, rumored to be a hotspot for illegal drug deals. After receiving a tip earlier this nigth, we had been staking out the area in hopes of catching distributors. Slowly, I watched as Peralta's impatience grew, and I couldn't help but wonder if our tip had just been a false lead.
Amidst the distant sounds of traffic and the faint hum of the city, Jake's distressed movements seemed amplified; every passing car and distant footstep only seemed to fuel his uneasiness. Honestly, I couldn't blame him; this place gave off major creepy vibes, but we had a job to do, and that meant keeping our cool and waiting for the right person to arrive.
"Hey, take a breather," I suggested, attempting to soothe his nervous demeanor. "You're coming off a bit suspicious."
He halted in his tracks, scratching the back of his head with a sheepish grin. "Sorry about that. I just can't stand waiting, you know?"
"I understand, but we really need to keep it together," I stressed, aiming to ease his tension. "Can you just stand there and act normal?"
"I'm tryiiiiiiing," his voice tinged with a hint of whining as he continued pacing.
"Well, try harder," I urged, "You look like a total cop right now."
His pacing halted abruptly, and he turned to me with wide eyes, a look of realization dawning on his face. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god," he muttered frantically. "We look like cops, and we´re getting shot in the face."
"Relax, Peralta," I chuckled, trying to inject some levity into the situation.
"Y/n" He sighed deeply, standing in front of me with his hands in his pockets,"I don't want to get shot; my face is my prized possession." His brow furrowed as he confessed dramatically.
I tilted my head, "Come on, Peralta," I quipped, a playful grin tugging at the corners of my lips. "If you get shot, I think your face would be the least of our concerns. I mean, you'd be dead!"
"Man, I should've prepared a character for a cover-up," Jake exclaimed, shaking his head ruefully. "We can't just stand here looking like this... like cops."
"Well, it's a little late for that now,"
He let out an exaggerated sigh, crossing his arms in frustration. "Let me think of something," he declared, his hand moving to his chin and rubbing it thoughtfully as he pondered our predicament.
I couldn't help but chuckle softly as I glanced around at the dimly lit street nearby, feeling the tension slowly dissipate as Jake's panicked expression softened into one of contemplation.
But then, with a sudden clarity, Jake snapped his fingers, "I've got it!" he exclaimed.
His words were accompanied by his familiar, stupid, and playful smirk. It was a look that spelled trouble, and to be honest, although I knew nothing good would come out of his mouth, I couldn't help but feel intrigued.
"Spill it, Peralta," I said, my hands tucked into my jean pockets, adopting a casual stance as I awaited his response. With Jake, you never quite knew what you were going to get, but you could always count on it being entertaining, if nothing else.
"You see, Y/n," he approached slowly, a mischievous grin playing on his lips as his left hand found its place against the wall behind me, anchoring me as he leaned in. "I was thinking..." he trailed off, his tone dripping with exaggerated suspense.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes playfully at his teasing manner. "Oh, here we go again," I retorted gently, halting his advances with a hand on his chest. "Another one of Jake's brilliant ideas, right?"
"Come on, Y/N, don't be like that," he said, his tone a mix of amusement and pleading. "You know you love my brilliant ideas."
"Oh, absolutely," I replied with a touch of sarcasm. "They're right up there with 'let's infiltrate this wedding' and 'let's dress up as clowns for the undercover operation.'"
"Hey, those are classic moments in my detective history," he protested, a grin spreading across his face. "One day they'll make a movie about me."
I couldn't resist lightly patting his chest. "Sure, buddy, for sure."
As Jake leaned in closer, I couldn't deny the surge of warmth that spread through me. Despite my attempts to conceal it, his proximity was starting to affect me.
Jake and I had a playful dynamic, often flirting with each other, and he wasn't shy about expressing his interest; he even told me countless times how I was "missing out" on a chance to be with him.
And don´t get me wrong, while I did find him undeniably attractive, I was hesitant to entertain the idea of taking things beyond friendship. Our coworker-turned-friend relationship was something I cherished, and I didn't want to risk complicating it with romantic entanglements.
So, no, nothing ever happened apart from the casual, harmless flirting. Our banter kept things light and enjoyable, never crossing the line into anything more serious. Despite the occasional temptation, we both understood the importance of maintaining boundaries in our friendship.
"Seriously, hear me out on this one," he continued, "What if we… I don't know… pretend to make out? It's the perfect cover-up!" His suggestion hung in the air, and for a moment, there was silence as we both processed the absurdity of his idea. His head fell to the side, awaiting my response with a playful smirk dancing on his lips.
"You wish, Peralta." I laughed and shook my head. "I mean, I know you'd do anything to steal a kiss from me, but making out in a dark alley? That's a bit too romantic even for you, don't you think?"
"Hey, it was worth a shot, right?" As he moved to step away from the wall, I caught movement at the beginning of the street behind him. Acting quickly, I grabbed him by the tie, the one he always refused to wear, and shot him a warning look. Understanding my silent cue, he lowered his head to mine, trying to appear inconspicuous as he whispered in my ear. "Is it them?"
"Maybe," I quietly answered, my heart pounding as I realized we were being watched. The figures stood at the beginning of the street, whispering to each other; they wore on to us for sure.
"Oh my god, they know, don't they?" he whispered, his voice tinged with worry. "What do we do, Y/L/N? I don't want to get shot in the face," he pleaded, his panic palpable.
Fuck I hate when he's right...
"Screw it," I whispered, my voice filled with determination. Pulling him closer, I crashed my lips into his. He immediately reacted, his arms encircling my waist as he pinned me against the wall. His lips were softer than I imagined, but his hands were rough as they traveled up my sides to rest on the back of my neck, pulling me even closer. Although the kiss was a desperate attempt to obfuscate the approaching perps, it was evident that Jake was definitely enjoying it more than it was intended. I couldn't help but give in to the moment as our kiss intensified as his tongue traced over my lower lip, kindly begging for more.
The footsteps grew louder, signaling the approach of whoever was out there. Without a second thought, his hand found its place on the back of my thigh, pulling me in closer. With my leg lifted around him, our bodies pressed together, and his fingers lightly held me in place.
Abruptly, the footsteps ceased and a voice cut through the moment. "Hey, what are you guys doing here?" one of the men asked, his tone cautious.
Jake broke the kiss. "Do you mind?" He retorted sharply, giving the guy a pointed look, before catching my lips again. I eagerly responded, letting my hands tangle up in his hair as he leaned closer to me.
The two guys just chuckled and exchanged knowing glances before sauntering off to the end of the alley. It worked; the stupid plan actually worked.
I waited until the footsteps were barely audible before breaking the kiss. I raised my head to get a better look, and Jake let his lips travel, leaving warm, open-mouthed kisses down my chin and into my neck. I bit my lip as I suppressed a moan I knew I was holding, glancing to see the two figures waiting by the door. "Jake, they're just standing there." I breathed out.
"Keep your eyes on them," he ordered, as he pressed himself against me.
I fought to keep my focus, torn between the intoxicating sensation of Jake's lips on me and the need to maintain our cover. Despite the overwhelming desire to lose myself in the moment, I stole quick glances towards where the perps stood, ensuring we weren't drawing any unwanted attention.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a new figure emerged, a brown bag in hand, joining the other two with a casual greeting. My heart pounded in my chest; it was going down, and we were going to get these guys. "Jake... Jake," I whispered urgently, breaking our embrace. His eyes met mine, and he immediately understood. Without hesitation, we sprang into action, charging towards the unsuspecting trio.
"NYPD!" Jake's voice boomed, cutting through the tense silence with commanding authority as he brandished his gun. I followed suit, drawing my own weapon, the weight of it familiar and reassuring in my hand. The perps froze, their faces registering shock as they realized they had been caught red-handed.
—xx—
It had been a few days since that night in the alley. With the intel we extracted from the three guys Jake and I caught, we successfully dismantled one of the biggest drug operations in Brooklyn. And to top it off, we managed to nab the ringleader himself. It was a major win for the team and definitely a cause for celebration. So naturally, we found ourselves at Shaw's, ready to toast to our victory.
"To the Nine-Nine," Captain Holt's voice resounded with strength as he lifted his glass high in the center of our circle. "To the Nine-Nine," we all echoed, raising ours in unison. With cheers and the clinking of half-empty glasses, we celebrated our hard work.
"Now disperse," he announced, his tone carrying a hint of warmth. "I want you all to have fun tonight; you deserve it." and with a wave of his hand, he indicated for us to move from our celebratory circle, encouraging us to enjoy the rest of the evening.
With that, I abruptly turned to face the bar, my attention drawn to the array of bottles lining the shelves. Caught off guard by a sudden collision, I stumbled backward, my balance momentarily disrupted. As I blinked in surprise, I found myself locking eyes with Jake, his hands reaching out to steady me by the waist. A rush of warmth flooded through me at the contact, and for a fleeting moment, time seemed to stand still as our gazes lingered.
"Whoa, sorry about that," I mumbled, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks as embarrassment washed over me.
His expression turned sheepish as he offered a tentative smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners with genuine warmth. After a brief moment of silence, he cleared his throat awkwardly. "Hey, no worries," he said lightly, a hint of amusement lacing his tone. Raising a hand, he scratched the back of his neck in a self-conscious gesture. "Guess I should've watched where I was going, huh?"
Our eyes remained locked, neither of us willing to be the first to look or moove away. "Well, at least we're not in an alley this time," I blurted out, trying to break the awkwardness with a touch of humor. He chuckled softly, the tension between us easing slightly as we both shared a small laugh.
"Dark alley or not, this was a great case," he said, his tone softening as he spoke. "I loved working with you, and I think we did a great job." His sincerity warmed my heart, and his light squeeze on my side felt like a silent reassurance.
Taking a step back, I broke away from his hold, trying to compose myself. My heart raced with the sudden rush of emotions. "Well... um..." I stammered nervously, my mind scrambling for something coherent to say. "I think we should celebrate. I'll be with Rosa at the bar," I continued, my voice wavering slightly as I awkwardly backed away from where we stood. "I'll see you around, Peralta."
As I approached the bar, Rosa's amused expression was already evident. Her playful tone cut through the air as I settled onto the bar stool beside her.
"What the hell was that?" she quipped.
I offered a weak shrug, attempting to play it cool. "What was what?" my voice slightly shaking as I avoided her knowing gaze.
"Oh, come on," she teased, gesturing toward the table behind her where Peralta and Charles were now seated. "That little dance back there, the eyefucking," she continued.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, no eyes were fucking back there!" I held my finger up in protest, trying to suppress a nervous laugh.
She sighed and took a sip of her drink, her gaze thoughtful. "Man, what the hell happened on the stakeout? You guys have been so weird…the glances, the lingering touches..."
"Hey, we have been doing none of that," I lied, attempting to deflect Rosa's probing with a forced casualness. Deep down, I knew she wasn't the only one who noticed. Despite being preoccupied with the bust operation for the past few days, I couldn't ignore the subtle shifts in Jake's behavior around me. He looked at me more often than usual, sat closer, and his touches lingered longer. I understood it all too well. I wasn't oblivious. We shared a kiss, and it wasn't just any kiss. There was something there—something I couldn't shake off.
"Bullshit," she retorted, "I mean, I understand tuning Boyle out when he talks, but Jake is literally not listening to a single word."
I glanced from my drink to the booth where Jake sat, slumped against the leather cushions with his legs spread out. He appeared relaxed, toying with his whisley glass that sat on his thigh. His gaze was already on me, peeking through his lowered eyebrows.
Our eyes met, and in that moment, I found myself unable to look away from him, captivated by the intensity of his gaze. What the hell was this man doing to me? It was as if every fiber of my being was drawn to him, despite my best efforts to resist.
"See, you're doing it again!" Rosa exclaimed loudly, her voice cutting through the chatter of the bar.
I immediately shook my head, laughing nervously. "Oh my god! Doing what, Diaz?" I turned toward the bar, signaling for another round of drinks, hoping to distract both of us from the uncomfortable topic.
She raised an eyebrow, her smirk widening as she leaned in closer. "The. Eye. Fucking," she punctuated each word.
"Rosa! No!" I exclaimed, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "No eyefucking going on," I added quickly, hoping to put an end to the teasing before it went any further.
"I know you kissed him," she said casually, her tone soft but firm, leaving no room for denial.
"What? No, that's not true!" My voice probably went up an octave, betraying my attempt at denial.
Rosa didn't waver, analyzing my reaction with a knowing look that seemed to cut straight through me.
"Fuck," I shook my head, looking to the side in resignation. "Okay, fine, I did, but it was only for the mission," I admitted reluctantly.
She chuckled, shaking her head. "Sure, sure, just for the mission."
"Oh, shut up," I lightly smacked her arm, playfully annoyed. "Who told you anyway?"
"Let's just say I have my sources,", a sly smile playing at the corners of her lips.
"Diaz!" I threatened, pointing my finger at her. "Spill it now or else!" My tone was half-joking, but there was a hint of determination in my eyes.
"Okay, okay," she conceded, raising her hands in defense. "It was Boyle."
"Boyle knows?" My eyes widened with shock. If Boyle knew, then everyone knew.
"Yeah, apparently Jake was glowing," she confirmed, "All smiles, couldn't stop grinning like a kid in a candy store." She took another sip of her drink, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. "So Boyle insisted, and eventually, he spilled the beans."
"Man, that's so embarrassing," I groaned, feeling the heat rising in my cheeks as I buried my face in my hands.
"Why?" Rosa regarded me with a serious expression.
"Well, because, you know... it's Jake," I mumbled, struggling to find the right words. "I don't want to... to..."
She held knowing look in her eyes, like she could read my thoughts, "To what?"
"Well, you know... be with him... I don't want that," Despite my attempt at denial, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that I wasn't convincing anyone, not even myself, that I didn't want Jake.
"Man, it's obvious you guys want to be with each other; just go for it," she said with a shrug, her tone matter-of-fact. "I mean, he's still eyefucking you across the room," she added, gesturing once again in Jake's direction, her point crystal clear.
"He is, isn't he?" I lightly smacked my forehead, as if to hide my face, letting out a chuckle. I felt a sense of relief wash over me; deep down, I knew she had a point.
Glancing over to Jake, it seemed like he hadn't moved an inch since I last looked at him.
"He's not the most subtle," she said, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
I pondered for a moment as I swirled my drink. Well, if Jake was willing to put himself out there to show his interest so openly, then maybe I should do the same. Maybe it was time to stop dancing around each other and just go for it.
"I have to fuck him, don't I?" I quipped with a smile, my voice low and filled with a hint of mischief.
Rosa burst into laughter at my bold declaration, her eyes twinkling with mirth. "Well, you don't have to, you know?" she replied between giggles, shaking her head at my blunt honesty.
I finished my drink and set the glass down with a determined nod. "I think I do," I admitted, my voice firm and resolute.
Rosa grinned approvingly. "That's my girl," she said with a proud nod.
"See you tomorrow, Diaz!" I said, giving her shoulder a friendly pat as I left the stool and made my way towards his table.
As I approached, Jake supported a knowing smile, his gaze unwavering from mine, completely focused on me, completely tuning out the random story Boyle was spewing about.
"Hey guys," I announced as I reached the table, "I'm not feeling really well," I admitted, but my tone lacked any hint of tiredness or distress making Jake's eyebrows perk up at my unconvincing excuse. "So I'll just head home, I think I can still catch the last train." It was a statement crafted with a specific purpose in mind—a subtle cue for Jake to follow me. So, I waited for the response I knew was coming, and Jake didn't disappoint.
Quickly drowning his drink, he stood up from his seat. 'No, no, train, come on!' His fingers motioned in an approaching gesture. 'I'll take you home.'"
"Oh…But!" Boyle exclaimed, "But you said you'd take me home…"
We stood in silence for a moment and watched as Boyle's expression shifted from confusion to realization in an instant. Standing up from his seat, he enveloped Jake in a bear hug, practically lifting him off the ground in his excitement. "You know what? It´s a great night! I guess I'll take a stroll along the river," he exclaimed cheerfully, patting Jake on the back before waving us goodbye.
The car ride had been silent so far, the only sounds filling the air were the gentle hum of the engine and the soft background music playing from the radio. Despite the lack of conversation, I couldn't shake the feeling of Jake's eyes on me, his scrutiny palpable, and I was keenly aware of the warmth creeping up my neck. Glancing over, I found Jake stealing glances in my direction, a small smile playing on his lips.
"Eyes on the road, Detective," I said, my finger lightly pushing his chin in the direction of the road, a playful smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
His grin widened, but he quickly turned his attention back to the task at hand, his fingers tapping lightly on the weel. "So, you weren't feeling well, huh?" Jake quipped, "Must be that sudden wave of 'I-can't-resist-Jake syndrome,' huh?"
Raising an eyebrow, I turned in my seat to face him slightly. "Oh, you think you're so funny, don't you?"
"It's a burden, really," he added with an exaggerated sigh. "Having to be this funny all the time,"
"Sometimes I wonder if you're compensating for something with all that humor."
"Oh, please, like you're not secretly enjoying every moment of it." He let his head fall back sligthy as he let out a troathy chuckle. "I couldn't help but notice how your eyes kept wandering over to me tonight. Got a little crush, Y/n?"
"Please, Peralta, don't flatter yourself. I was just admiring the artwork on the walls" I remarked with a sly smile as I leaned closer, my arm resting behind his seat and my breath brushing against his cheek. "You, on the other hand, were really pushing it out there. I mean, could you have been more obvious?"
"Oh, come on," he glanced over at me. "You can't fool me with that excuse. I know you were totally checking me out."
"Maybe…" I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper, a playful glint in my eyes.
"Of course you were," he replied, his hand moving from the steering wheel to rest lightly on my thigh. "And can you blame yourself? Of course not. I mean, look at me."
"Please, Peralta, you're not that irresistible." I scoffed while looking down at his hand, trying to maintain my composure despite the growing warmth between my legs.
"Oh, I beg to differ," he murmured as his fingers now traced gentle circles on my thigh, "Admit it, Y/N. You've been dying for me to touch you like this."
My breath caught in my throat, and I simply let out a chuckle as I slumped back against my seat. "You're trouble, you know that?" I shook my head, a mixture of amusement and exasperation in my tone, as I let my gaze drift out the window. The familiar facade of my building stood tall against the city skyline as the car gently came to a stop.
"Yeah, guilty as charged," he murmured as we stepped out onto the sidewalk.
With a coy smile, I glanced back over my shoulder. "You know that if you're guilty of something, you shouldn't be confessing your crimes to a cop."
"Well, lucky for me, Detective, you've been off the clock for..." He glanced at his watch as he trailed closely behind me, "...3 hours and 38 minutes now.
"I might be off the clock, but I can still cuff you, Peralta," I said, tapping the handcuffs at my waist.
As I turned the key and my fingers fumbled with the locks I heard him inching closer. I could feel the warmth of his body as he pressed against my back, with gentle precision, he lowered his head, and I felt his breath grazing the nape of my neck.
"Me, in cuffs, at your mercy?" His lips brushed against my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. "Oh, but wouldn't that be the highlight of your night?" His voice was low and filled with playful suggestion.
With a soft laugh, I finally managed to open the door, turning to face him, my heart pounding with anticipation. "Are you projecting, Peralta?" I countered as I met his gaze, slowly backing away, inviting him in as he approached me at the entryway.
He quickly stepped in, closing the door behind him with a soft click. The room felt suddenly smaller, warmer, with just the two of us. As he reached me, he circled his arms around my waist, pulling me closer "Mehh, maybe just a little,". His fingers deftly undid the zipper of my leather jacket, and his eyes didn't tear away from my chest.
"Like what you see, Peralta?" I quipped, letting my hands meet his own on his chest.
"Yeah," he chuckled as he leaned in to press a kiss on my collarbone. "You changed your curtains, didn't you?" He added playfully, his breath warm against my skin.
"Oh yeah?" I slowly started undoing the buttons on his shirt. "I can't believe you´d noticed that."
As we reached the sofa, his hands guided my jacket off, the leather slipping down my arms with a subtle force. Our eyes remained locked as the leather pooled at my feet.
I gestured with a tilt of my head for him to take a seat, and with grin he complied, his fingers skillfully undoing the remaining buttons of his shirt. I couldn't help but admire the way his muscles flexed under the fabric as he discarded it to the side. Then he eased onto the sofa, spreading his legs and letting his arms rest casually on the back of it, lightly tilting his head back.
As I removed my pants, he drew in a deep breath, his gaze unwaveringly fixed on me. Straddling him, I rested my hands on his shoulders, sensing his firm grip on the back of my thighs for stability. With my knees on either side of him, I gradually eased myself onto his lap, the heat of his chest pressing against mine, still covered by the random top I threw on this morning.
"No perps today?" he joked, his hands settling on my ass while his nose lightly brushed against my chest, inhaling my scent. "I kind of enjoyed the audience."
I shook my head as I leaned down to grab his chin, urging him to meet my gaze. "Just you and me, Jake," I murmured against his lips. "What do you think?"
"Well, Y/n," he whispered, "I think you should really kiss me."
"Yeah, I should," I nodded, but just as our lips were about to meet, I pulled back slightly. "Or maybe I'll just leave you hanging," I teased as I leaned back, keeping him at arm's length.
Jake's eyes widened in surprise. "You're playing dirty now, huh?" His hands cupped my flesh forcefully as he pulled me forward, spreading my cheeks slightly and pressing me against him. The sudden movement elicited a gasp from my lips, feeling the subtle grind of his crotch against mine. A soft moan escaped me as I surrendered to the satisfying friction rocking my hips against his bulge.
"Maybe," I teased once again, leaning in close before pulling back again. I intensified the grind of my hips as his hands moved to my shoulders, sliding the straps of my top down, the fabric gathering around my stomach, exposing more of my skin to his hungry gaze.
"You're killing me here," he protested as his fingers traced the delicate lacy edges of my bra.
"Oh, but where's the fun in making it easy for you?"
As his head fell back against the sofa, a deep exhale escaped him, a mix of frustration and pleasure. Seizing the opportunity, I pressed my lips against his neck, relishing the shudder that ran through him, accompanied by a low sigh of pleasure. My hand lightly closed against his throat, keeping him in place as I continued to kiss upward, tracing the line of his jaw with eager lips.
"You're driving me insane," he growled, his voice thick with need. Grabbing me by the nape of my neck, he pulled me into a kiss.
As our bodies pressed together, he skillfully unclasped my bra, freeing my breasts to his eager touch. His mouth descended upon my right nipple, and as he sucked and nibbled, I couldn't help but grind against him with more force.
I tugged on the hairs at the back of his head, urging him closer, craving more of his touch. His fingers trailed down my abdomen, teasing the hem of my panties before boldly slipping beneath them.
I gasped as his cold fingers met my warm skin. "Fuck, Jake," I breathed out, my voice trembling with desire.
"Oh, my name sounds so good when you say it like that," he confessed, his fingers moving slowly against my clit. My head rested on his shoulder, and his fingers continued to explore my soaked folds, "Yeah, just like that, doing so well," he praised as he lightly brushed my entrance, slowly dipping his middle finger inside of me.
With a desperate urgency, I moved my hands to his sides, tugging at the belt loops of his jeans. "Off, off," I managed to say.
He nudged his hips forward, lowering his jeans and boxers just enough for his cock to spring out. I immediately took him in my hand, stroking him lightly as a pornographic moan escaped his lips.
His hand then moved my panties to the side, allowing me to guide him against my clit before lining him with my entrance. Slowly, I lowered myself on to him, feeling every inch of him stretching me as he filled me completely.
His right hand met the back of my neck once again, pulling me into a kiss, as his left cupped my ass with force, aiding me with the up and down movement of my hips.
God, you feel incredible," he groaned against my lips, his voice husky with desire.
With a breathless laugh, I whispered back, "You're not so bad yourself."
A playful chuckle escaped him "Always got something to say, don't you?" He teased, his hips rising to meet mine with eager intensity.
My head fell back, overcome with pleasure, as the familiar coil of ecstasy began to build in the depths of my stomach. "Fuck, don´t stop.". His movements remained steady, his hand reaching out to play with my clit, intensifying the pleasure coursing through my body. "God, Jake... it's... it's too much," I gasped, desperation evident in my voice as my hands clung to his shoulders and arms for support.
"Oh, I can't fucking last with you sounding like that," he admitted, letting his forehead rest against mine.
"Then don't," I whispered, my voice barely audible amidst the sounds of our heavy breathing and the pounding of flesh. His pace quickened, pushing me closer as I arched my back. "I´m cumming.. Oh.. Fuck"
A moan escaped his lips as he watched me with intensity, his eyes tracing every contortion of my face as pleasure surged through me. I felt the wave of bliss crash over me, my body trembling with the force of my release.
In that moment, I could tell he couldn't hold back any longer. "Do it," I urged, locking my gaze with his and giving him a reassuring look.
"You sure?" His eyes searched mine, seeking reassurance.
I nI nodded eagerly, feeling my body tremble as I sensed him pulsating inside of me. The sensation of him nearing his climax, his moans reverberating through the room, was intoxicating and overwhelming in the most delicious way imaginable. As he released into me, I let out a satisfied sigh, capturing his lips once again.
We remained intertwined, his arms wrapped around me protectively, as his cock still throbbed gently inside me. His fingers traced soothing patterns on the small of my back, and I nestled closer to him as his lips found their way to my forehead, planting a tender kiss.
"You know? I hate when you´re right," I whispered, my voice soft against his skin.
"About what in particular?" He chuckled.
I smiled against his neck, feeling a warmth spread through me. "About... this," I confessed, lifting my head slightly to meet his gaze. "That I'd been missing out."
"Well, lucky for you, Y/n, we still have plenty of time to catch up,"

I randomly started think about how R has said in the past that Link acts like a dad sometimes and I couldn’t resist making a little one shot for it
||
*Link hands R a water bottle*
R: Thanks, Dad... Why is everyone staring at me?
J: You just called Link dad; you said thanks, dad.
R: What? No, I didn't. I said thanks, man.
Link: Do you see me as a father figure, Y/n?
R: No, if anything, I see you as a bother figure, 'cause you're always bothering me.
Liv: Hey! You show your father some respect!
R: I didn't call him Dad!
Link: No, no. Y/n, I take it as a compliment.
Jake: It's not a big deal. I called my girlfriend at the time mom once.
R: Guys, jump on that.  Jake has psycho-sexual issues.
*Jake makes a ‘wtf’ face*
Liv: Old news.
J *continues for Liv*: But you calling  Link daddy.
R: Hey, daddy is not on the table here.
J: Well, you did call him dad, dude.
(aww poor Jake just wanted to help out)
