Bruce's grief after Steph died was much more silent than Jason's because otherwise the public would've started prying, but he also placed every ounce of blame on himself and seriously considered retiring Batman (and in turn, Robin, so no more kids have to get hurt)
She jokingly made him pinky promise to take her to Belgium for waffles on her 18th birthday and he stuck to his word
They sold rainbow cookies at Pride and the proceeds (plus an extra donation from Bruce) went to Steph's high school GSA
Steph changed Bruce's lock screen to her double-chin selfie with a psychedelic filter. When one of his coworkers at saw it, he just said, "Kids, am I right?"
They are contractually obligated to sing the Space Jam theme together at karaoke
Whenever they travel as a family, Steph and Bruce each get their own hotel rooms—Bruce because he snores and Steph because she thinks she's Adele performing at Wembley Stadium
She trolled Bruce's Twitter so hard that people were convinced she was a rival CEO
Steph refused to let Bruce pay for college, so instead he visited often and helped her write the perfect scholarship applications
She found a five-leaf clover and stuck it to Bruce's cowl in the middle of his town hall speech
They tried to cook together and reeeally overshot the amount of salt
Bruce cried a little when she moved to her first apartment
They went to a family therapist for 3 months after Steph came back from the dead to sort everything out
Steph doesn't remember when she told Bruce she doesn't like licorice, but he never forgot
She decorated Bruce's motorcycle helmet with Spoiler stickers
They have a shared hatred for people who don't put their shopping carts away
Bruce learned the "make a wish on a dandelion" thing from Steph, and he does it when no one's watching
In her senior year of high school, Steph was on the freshman orientation team and to stand out from the other orientation leaders, she had Batman stand next to her handing out free t-shirts
Bruce follows her suspicions, no matter how silly they might seem at first—she has a better eye for details than him
One time he found her tinkering with a non-functional music box she found in the attic. They stayed up all night to restore it together and when it was done, it had a newly painted ballerina and played Martha's favorite childhood song
When she was Batgirl, people constantly compared her to Babs and Cass and it made her question every tiny thing she did and whether she could live up to the mantle. Bruce knew this, and he also knew this wasn't something he could fix for her in one fell swoop. Still, that didn't stop him from leaving the positive comments on her mission reports and telling her she's doing a good job in the middle of a fight
"Bruce, I can read your mind." "What am I thinking right now?" "Why is her thumb in my ear?"
Her way of waking him up involves a squirt gun in each hand
Bruce thinks Steph is really brave for showing up to the Wayne gala in an outfit that's half of her Spoiler costume mixed with pajamas
Bruce failed his own company's drug test because Steph gave him a poppy seed bagel that morning
Steph played an important role in Bruce and Selina's wedding: making sure villains stayed away and the cake didn't topple over
One time they were the only ones awake at sunrise when the snow had just freshly fallen, so they raced outside for a snowball fight
One of their undercover disguises was as a father and daughter—with Steph being the father
Steph forgives Bruce for her death because she was the one who put herself in danger, and she hopes someday he can learn to forgive himself
They both picked the worst wallpapers for the bathroom so Alfred had to override their decision
So. Here’s the thing. I have a bad habit of skimming, especially when I’m reading rubrics. I don’t notice I’m doing it but it can mean I miss important bits of information, such as the part about your last entry being a 250 word retrospective. Luckily I am aware of this deficiency of mine so I tend to check my rubrics periodically to make sure I haven’t missed anything. So I wrote the post. But. Before I realized there was a set end to the life of this blog I still intended my own form of wrap-up. I decided to make a playlist with at least one song per reading from this class. Even after I knew I just had to write a lil paragraph I couldn’t get the idea out of my head so here is the playlist anyway.
[Commonplace Songs]
Obviously it would be a bit of a time commitment to listen to the whole thing, so this was mostly just for my own enjoyment, but I had too much fun not to share. Notes for each song under the cut.
Abbess Hild & Caedmon, & Caedmon’s Hymn - Sisters of Mercy - Leonard Cohen
This one was honestly one of the most difficult to figure out. I generally struggled most to find songs for the explicitly religious texts, but I think this one works pretty well if you think of it as being from Caedmon’s perspective.
The Exeter Book Riddles - The Riddle Song - Joan Baez | Scarborough Fair - Simon and Garfunkel
These are cheating a little I know, since they both have very old origins themselves. I did consider including Schubert’s Swansong as a reference to Riddle 7, but I’ve tried to stick with songs that have lyrics.
The Wanderer - Man of Constant Sorrow - Joan Baez
Man of Constant Sorrow is really a modern version of The Wanderer to me. An exile “bound to ramble” away from their loved ones, unable to see them again in this life.
Deor - This Too Shall Pass - Danny Schmidt
This one is obvious from the title, and she makes rings! What more could you ask?
The Wife’s Lament - You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me - Dusty Springfield | One Too Many Mornings - Joan Baez
You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me really captures the tragedy of still being in love with someone who’s abandoned you. I think the desire for physical proximity really works with The Wife’s Lament. One Too Many Mornings works for the feeling of physical, but more importantly, temporal distance. The tortuous, and at the same time mundane passing of time, and the feeling of it being too late.
Wulf and Eadwacer - Farewell Wanderlust - The Amazing Devil
I struggled with this one. Another song considered was Better Man by Pearl Jam but I think Farewell Wanderlust works better even if it's less specific. It's got the anger, frustration, heartbreak, and defeat going for it.
Dream of the Rood - The Becoming - Nine Inch Nails
I decided no church music was allowed which made this one harder. I decided to lean into the slight body horror of the description of the cross shifting between bloodstained and bejewelled. Also: “He’s covered with scabs he’s broken and sore” just like Jesus! Obviously this doesn’t really suit the glorious tone the poem was going for, but I personally found the poem a bit unsettling.
Judith - Glory and Gore - Lorde | The Dismemberment Song - Blue Kid
Glory and Gore definitely fits the tone of the poem best, it's hard to explain why without going line by line, but trust me this one is exceptionally good for Judith. The Dismemberment Song is here even though it's not quite right, because it was suggested to me and it made me laugh. Content warning though, it is very clinically detailed about, you know, dismemberment.
The Battle of Maldon - Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
This one is pretty obvious right? I came so very close to including Waterloo by ABBA as well, but I do have some restraint.
History of the Kings of Britain - Set Fire to the Rain - Adele | Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears
Set Fire to the Rain is for Igerna. All that love, and vulnerability, and secrets, and distrust. This song is just about Igerna to me now, it's pretty perfect for her. Everybody Wants to Rule the World works really well for Arthurian legend. “Nothing ever lasts forever, everybody wants to rule the world”
The Mabinogi - Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac | She’s Always A Woman - Billy Joel
Rhiannon is ludicrously obvious, I don’t think I need to explain. She’s Always A Woman is also about Rhiannon, specifically how Pwyll defends her and keeps her as his queen even though everyone is against her.
Lanval - Who is She? - I Monster | Come Wander With Me - Jeff Alexander
I feel like a magical woman appearing out of nowhere to be your girlfriend would actually be pretty trippy, hence Who is She? Come Wander With Me is a bit more suitable tonally. Have fun wandering off, never to be seen again, Lanval!
Ancrene Wisse - Agoraphobia - Deerhunter
As you might expect, from a song called Agoraphobia, this works well for anchoresses. The lyrics match the actual daily life of an anchoress surprisingly well.
Middle English Lyrics - Luck Be a Lady - Frank Sinatra
With regard to The Lady Dame Fortune is both frende and foe
Sir Orfeo - Frozen Pines - Lord Huron | Word Spins Madly On - The Weepies
Frozen Pines captures the frozen-in-time-ness and its about seeking a lost loved one in the woods. It's perfect. World Spins Madly On works because time has also very much not frozen, and they are apart from one another, knowing, and at the same time not knowing, where the other is. Honourable mention to Nothing Takes the Place of You by Toussaint McCall, which just wasn’t quite right, but has a maturity the other two lack.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight I - Family Friend - The Vaccines
Poor Gawain is the only responsible adult at court. Jokes aside, this is a really good character song for Gawain.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight II-III - All in Green Went My Love Riding - Joan Baez
I’ve mentioned this one before. It's too perfect not to include.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight IV - Little Lion Man - Mumford and Sons
Another character portrait for my favourite boy Gawain! This also works for him in Morte d’Arthur. He tries so hard, and always comes just a little bit short, and then blames himself mercilessly.
Canterbury Tales – General Prologue - Prologue: Into the Woods - Stephen Sondheim
I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to do for this one, but I committed to a song per reading. It does work well in a way. They are both prologues that introduce a billion archetypal characters at once, tell you what they want, and make fun of the a little. Sondheim could have done a kick-ass musical adaptation of The Canterbury Tales.
Piers Plowman – Prologue - Land of the Believer - The Weather Girls
Club music perilously close to gospel music, I wouldn’t be surprised if this genuinely was about Jesus and religion. I considered skipping Piers Plowman because we didn’t actually go over it in class, but I’m a completionist.
Chaucer – Canterbury Tales – The Miller’s Tale - You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
Oh Absolon… I considered going with Tainted Love, but I needed a ridiculous song for a ridiculous story.
Chaucer – Canterbury Tales – The Miller’s Tale - Put the Blame on Mame - “Rita Hayeworth” Anita Ellis
On the other hand, Put the Blame on Mame is about a beautiful woman being blamed for disasters both natural and human, but which is supposed to, in my opinion, make you think about how ridiculous it is to actually blame a woman for that kind of thing.
Julian of Norwich – A Revelation of Love - Space Age Love Song - A Flock of Seagulls
I love taking songs that aren’t supposed to be about Jesus and making them about Jesus, and Jesus in the role of alien girlfriend is funny to me. That said, it does work really well for the transcendent vibe of medieval mysticism.
The Book of Margery Kempe - Crazy - Gnarls Barkley | Policy of Truth - Depeche Mode
I found it a bit difficult to take Margery seriously at first, because she is patently a ridiculous person, but is she really crazy just because others think she is? Trying to think of songs for her is actually what made me take more seriously what her life was like. She experienced many dangers and a lot of persecution for living her truth, hence Policy of Truth.
The Book of Margery Kempe - Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands - Joan Baez
A singular, and shockingly untouchable woman.
Second Shepherd’s Play - Mack the Knife - Ella Fitzgerald | Sheep - Pink Floyd
I admit, these are both kind of joke songs, but they do work! Mack because Mac, sheep because sheep.
Second Shepherd’s Play - Under Pressure - Queen and David Bowie
The slightly more serious choice for this play. It matches the complaining of the shepherds at the beginning of the play, and it has references to prayer, and a desire for change that works given it is a nativity play.
Noah’s Flood - Rain on Me - Lady Gaga (feat. Ariana Grande)
Okay, hear me out. I know it's a club song, but it's actually perfect for Noah’s wife. I can’t go line by line, but it expresses disappointment with a relationship, be it with God or Noah, but it also expresses gratitude for being alive, even though they wish they were “dry” , a reference to rain, and alcohol.
The Crucifixion - Blowing’ in the Wind - Joan Baez
This one was really hard without just choosing a song literally about the crucifixion, which would be cheating. Blowing in the Wind is about ignorance and apathy to human suffering, which is also what characterises the Roman soldiers. Also, yes, I will pick the Joan Baez version of every song I can. Thank you for asking.
Mankind - WWJD - The Axis of Awesome | Out of Touch - Hall and Oates
Mankind - Send Them Off! - Bastille
WWJD is another joke song, but you can’t tell me a group of demons in a morality play wouldn’t sing this. Like the demons in the play, it humorously pokes at a question people would really be asking about how they are supposed to ever live up to Jesus. Out of Touch and Send Them Off! are more straightforwardly readable as Mankind singing to/for Mercy.
Morte d’Arthur, book 1 - Tower Song - Martha Wainright | In the Blood (feat. Ashley Barrett) - Darren Korb
Tower Song is my other song for Igerna. It works along the same lines as Ste Fire to the Rain, but it's a little more vicious. I was torn about including In the Blood, even though it works well for Arthur, because of course it does, I transposed one young hero who is the future of his people, onto another. I still think the Arthurian angle changes the way the song reads enough for it to work, though.
Morte d’Arthur, book 8 - Happy Ending - MIKA | Heavy Crown - Trixie Mattel
For Happy Ending, please see my previous post on Lancelot and Guinevere. Heavy Crown is for Arthur, “Winning’s losing with a couple strings [...] Gotta be the last to know”, I think it suits the melancholy of all the lost glory Camelot, and how inevitable the whole thing felt to Arthur the second he was confronted by Agravaine and Mordred about Guinevere and Lancelot

Gotta keep the Monsters Inc fandom alive somehow. This is just a little post of what I would assume the MIFT team in Monsters at work would jam out too. Purely based on what we've seen throughout the show and just plain assuming.
Val:
- She definitely likes indie music, perhaps some hyperpop and techno here and there as well.
- It gets her going, especially in the morning, she likes the fast pace of some songs and the loud base in others.
- Her favorite artists would be Artic Monkeys, MGMT, and probably Lorde.
- She'll blast her favorite songs while riding on that buggy/work vehicle.
Fritz:
- I feel like he'd be into oldies.
- He's an 80s/90s rock kind of guy, he likes the nostalgia it brings, but also I feel like he'd be into all genres from his generation.
- I see him listening to The Smiths, Billy Joel, and especially The Beetles.
- He'd probably have some sort of little speaker in his office so he can play his CDs while working.
- He has a big CD collection btw.
Cutter:
- Ok this gal definitely likes punk rock, new and old.
- She absolutely for sure listens to Misfits, The Clash, and maybe even Green Day.
- She for sure goes to a lot of concerts too, when she's off that is.
- Probably met one of her kooky husbands at a concert.
Duncan:
- Ok he's literally my favorite and I want to do him justice so this is kind of hard.
- I can't really put into to words what his music taste would be.
- I'm thinking Mitski, Bôa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Adele.
- I imagine he'd be pretty insecure of his music taste, he would definitely be shy about suggesting songs to others.
- He'd keep his favorite songs on the down low, but when alone him and Roto will dance and laugh to the music.
Tyler:
- This one is kinda hard too, I've been thinking about it and I'm pretty sure he'd be an indie enjoyer as well.
- He'd of course throw in a bunch of other genres too.
Hi! Congrats on 420 followers lmao I just love that ♥️ If you can, for your event, I’d like to request Joint #5 (the Soulmate AU) with Suna Rintaro!
I was also wondering, I saw you have a three request limit, but I wasn’t sure if for this event you’d only be doing one character per prompt or if I can submit one to two more characters for the same prompt?
Thanks for the request!! I hope you like this!
So for this soulmate au I went with these two
1. There’s a radio in everyone’s heads that they share with their soulmates, the two(?) of you can change the tunes 2. You can’t physically harm your soulmate.
Suna x (maybe fem) reader soulmate au!
Event Masterlist
Since you were sixteen there was a link in your head, one that was like a radio station that you could change the channel, any song was possible and even being able to choose to start from any specific parts in the song.
It’s been a year of picking music and taking turns with your soulmate, learning each other's music tastes and finding a way to communicate.
This morning on your walk to your early morning practice, you choose a song to play, knowing he gets up as early as you do.
Good morning beautiful started to play and in your schools gym, Suna Rintaro had his heart start to race.
You change into your gym clothes and put on your knee pads before making your way into your practice, smiling when the song changed in your head to Hello You Beautiful Thing by Jason Mraz.
You aren't sure what he does in the morning, but you’re glad it’s something similar to you and you can swap music that gets you in the zone instead of slower music. You start your practice and change the song when his ends to a song he knows means you’re starting to do your morning routine. A song he finds makes him play better when you start it, ()
After practice, as you shower away the sweat, you get an idea and as you give your conditioner a few moments to sit in your hair, you start to mentally put the songs together.
Suna was sitting on the bench in the locker room, a towel around his neck as he digs through his bag, hands stopping and happiness flooding his heart when he hears you start changing the songs.
“Hello” sang by Adele followed by
“I hope you” sang by Lee Ann Womack
“Have a” song by Joe Crocker
“Wonderful day” by OAR
“I’m thinking” by Rare Bird
“Of you” by Ed Sheeran
“Oh my god is Suna smiling?” Atsumu yells and Suna immediately scowls and returns to his bag.
“You’re seeing things” he says and rolls his eyes, praying to the gods he leaves him be and thankfully because of Osamu he does.
When Suna gets a moment to himself during his home room class, he thinks about songs to send back.
Walking to your after school practice you stop in the middle of the nearly empty hallway, a smile coming to your lips and your cheeks flushing as you hear the song in your head start to sound like radio stations changing until it stops and plays several different sections of songs that go like this
The word Some from the song by Steve Lacy
The word Body from the song by eric nam
The word Once from the song by Pearl Jam
The words Told me from the song by the killers
The words The world from the song by brad paisley
The word Was form the song by Kenny Wayne shepherd band
The word Gonna from the song by Blake Shelton
The words Roll me by cheap trick
You can’t stop laughing. After the second word you knew where it was going and it made you start to giggle. By the end of his songs it was full blown laughter. You changed the station to the actual song by smash mouth before resuming running off to your practice to tell your friends about this.
The next morning as you’re running late to practice, you didn’t start any song and Suna was a little bummed. As he got into his position at the start of practice, he started the song good morning by Max frost and it made you smile as you ran down the hallways.
As you near the volleyball gym, Suna serves the ball a little too hard and as you pass the door it hits you and skims across the front of your face, hitting your cheekbone and nose before basically bouncing off your face and into the lockers on the other side of the hall.
You fall back to your butt and touch your face, it didn’t hurt at all?? What?
“Suna what the hell did you do?!” Atsumu yells and you hear feet coming your way, the squeaky sound of sneakers on a waxed gym floor getting louder until multiple heads pop through the door.
Suna shoves his way through as you’re getting to your feet “are you okay? I’m so sorry the serve got away from me”
you stare into his eyes for a moment, a little star struck. Sure you’ve seen him around and saw his games occasionally, you thought he was handsome and you’d overhear him teasing his friends and it would make you giggle to yourself with how funny he was.
“You did that?” You ask, wide eyes and he nods “yeah I’m sorry again” he says and you laugh a little
“Suna,... I didn’t feel anything” you admit quietly and watch as his eyes widen in recognition.
“Smash mouth” he whispers and you laugh harder “good morning by Max frost” you say, the same song still playing in the back of both of your minds.
“Wow” he says and you see Osamu holding his hand over Atsumu’s mouth and dragging him back into the gym, the rest of the team following suit to be respectful.
“This is.. like a comfortable confusion I don’t know what to say” he admits and you laugh “I feel the same way. I’m happy to finally find you and to get to know you. I love your taste in music! But we both gotta get to practice. How about we have lunch together?” You suggest and he nods with the smallest of smiles on his lips “can’t wait” he says and you nod, your cheeks warming and excitement in your heart from finding him.
You turn to leave but stop, smiling before walking closer to him and kissing his cheek “see you at lunch, Suna” you say and see his cheeks dusted pink as you step back.
“See you” he says quietly, reaching up to touch his cheeks where your lips were as you wave and walk backwards with a smile a few steps before turning and resuming your mad dash to practice, now 23 minutes late.
so. because i am annoying. and i need to be my own savior sometimes. here are 81 reasons to stay alive that i chant to myself every single night. literally every night. hope this helps someone else too. this is very personal to me and some things might not apply to you and i didn’t think i would ever show anyone but fuck it. some of these are from my “list” i made when i was 15. maybe one day i’ll show you that list too. if anyone ever feels the way i felt last night - this is for you my love.

Endless List of OC Playlists ☆ Keira & Jason [ Featuring an old graphic I made on Polyvore before they shut down the site without warning ]
1) STAND BY ME // Bootstraps
❝Oh, I won't be afraid / just as long as you stand, stand by me❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmVnGQSlw3k ]
I had to include this song or else I don’t think it would have been a Power Rangers playlist. This version absolutely KILLS me. This song was included in the Power Rangers 2017 soundtrack and it hits hard. This song not only represents Keira and Jason’s relationship but their relationship with the other rangers. What makes the Rangers, ‘the Rangers’ is how they are willing to do anything for each other, some rangers are willing to go further than others. For Keira and Jason, this song means that even through the darkest times, they will stand by each other no matter what.
2) WHEREVER YOU WILL GO // Charlene Soraia
❝If I could, then I would / I'll go wherever you will go / way up high or down low / I'll go wherever you will go❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DChHEf0lpEE ]
Out of all of the songs I picked for this playlist, I think this is the song that screams Keira and Jason to me. The way Charlene Soraia’s voice strikes a chord and makes my heart ache makes me feel like this is the perfect song for the two of them. With the two of them living more dangerous lives as Rangers, they didn’t know if they would make it past tomorrow. They would follow each other to the ends of the earth and if something were to happen (and some things have), neither of them would be able to move on. (side note: this is one of my favorite songs on this playlist and in general. Everyone should listen to this cover)
3) FALLING IN // Lifehouse
❝But it's over, without you I'm just lost, incomplete / yeah you feel like home, home to me.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBtd1rOMOCE ]
This is another song that screams Keira and Jason to me. While Wherever You Will Go is a much slower (and sad) song revolving around the possibility of loss, Falling In expresses the emotions of that initial feeling of falling in love. I could totally see Jason sprinting to Keira’s house the moment he realizes that he’s in love with her. There wouldn’t be any warning. He would be laying on his bed, finishing up some homework when it would just hit him. When he figures it out, he wouldn’t be able to keep it in for very long. When he shows up at Keira’s front door, he realizes how crazy he must seem and how frightening it is to be in love with someone (especially for the first time), but screw it. He loves her and (hopefully) she loves him.
4) ONE AND ONLY // Adele
❝I don't know why I'm scared / I've been here before / every feeling, every word / I've imagined it all.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLla9PYtcoc ]
Everyone has that moment when they have feelings for someone, played out the entire situation in their head but still doesn’t know how to express those feelings. During the duration of Jason and Keira’s friendship before they started dating, she knew something was different between the two of them. She wasn’t oblivious to the fact that Jason had made many advances towards her, but she was still confused as to why she’s hesitant to ask him for his love after having rehearsed it in her head a million times before. It’s a common symptom of love blossoming between close friends – having been around him for so long yet experiencing a loss for words when wanting to move forward in a relationship.
5) TRUE COLORS // Justin Timberlake
❝This world makes you crazy / And you've taken all you can bear / Just, call me up / 'Cause I will always be there.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECO3ARGisF8 ]
Both Jason and Keira have their insecurities. Jason thinks everything he touches gets screwed up, while Keira has a habit of keeping things bottled up. Sometimes they think that the world is against them. And the both of them have their break down moments. Most of the time it results in one calling the other and lying in silence all night just holding each other. When you break down, I’ll be there. That’s what this song represents, those moments when they’ve taken all they can and just let it all go.
6) YOU MATTER TO ME // Drew Gehling & Jessie Mueller
❝Come out of hiding, I'm right here beside you / and I'll stay there as long as you'll let me / because you matter to me.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js8lCNubzdY ]
Keira is a very introverted person and the idea of being in a relationship with anyone, let alone Angel Grove’s fallen Golden Boy scared the crap out of her. This song is about a woman who has been abused and afraid to love, but a handsome stranger comes along, convinces her to come out of hiding and let him love her. The lyrics really hit hard because everyone wants to matter to someone even if they are scared. Keira was that person. She was scared to love someone, but Jason let her know that she mattered to him and he wasn’t going anywhere.
7) DON’T YOU WORRY CHILD // Swedish House Mafia
❝Don't you worry, don't you worry, child / see heaven's got a plan for you.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fytp6BkJwDU ]
Everyone worries about how their life is going to turn out or if they’re messing the whole thing up. This song is about accepting your life how it is, there is a plan for you and you’re right on track. With everything that is/was going on in both Keira and Jason’s lives, they have their doubts about whether or not they’re doing it right. But there’s a reason for everything and a plan in place.
8) AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME // Sleeping At Last
❝I don't care who you are / where you're from / what you did / as long as you love me.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxQE5GcyIqc ]
This song talks revolves around the idea that it doesn’t matter the background, as long as you love them, nothing else matters. Jason was the Golden Boy quarterback who fricked up real badly. And it’s painfully obvious that he beats himself up about it. Luckily for Jason, Keira couldn’t give two sh.its about Jason’s reputation. She didn’t like him for the fact that he was the football player at their high school and she didn’t care that he messed the whole thing up (she cared that he almost killed himself in the process of escaping from the cops, but that’s a different story). She knew that he didn’t like the whole football gig anyway, his dad just wanted him to be a football star. Keira loves him for who he is as a person. Jason is a kind, passionate and loving person, his life shouldn’t revolve around something he doesn’t love.
9) FALLING SLOWLY // Arthur Darvill
❝You have suffered enough / And warred with yourself / It's time that you won.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqB_ozuCjRw ]
This is the title song for this playlist. I think this is a good song to describe Jason and Keira pre-relationship. Even though they have known each other since elementary school, it wasn’t until high school when the feelings started. They knew of each other but didn’t really know each other. The moment that he walked away from Keira after hitting her in the face with a football, he knew that he wanted to know all about her. He wasn’t exactly sure what to do about the situation and the things he felt. After the awkwardness passed and they became friends, he realized he was slowly falling for her. She made him feel like no one else had. Keira had a tough time and battled with letting herself love Jason. But slowly, she learned to love him and discovered that what they felt was real. That’s what this song is about, getting to know someone and slowly but surely loving them with all you have.
10) SUNDAY MORNING // Maroon 5
❝Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm / change the weather, still together when it ends.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXdlHueax2U ]
Jason and Keira’s relationship has its ups and its downs. Much like many any other relationship. But, when times get a little better and ‘skies look clear’ they’ll be together in the end. Through the difficult times, they’ll still stick together. That’s one of the reasons this song represents the two of them. Another reason is just the lazy morning factor of it. Just waking up on a Sunday morning, probably dead tired from training all night and just basking in each other's company. They don’t have to be intimate. It’s just a moment where they can just relax and not think about all the crazy stuff going on, just focusing on each other.
11) WHAT THE HECK I GOTTA DO / Anthony Ramos & Original Cast of 21 Chump Street
❝What the heck I gotta do to be with you?❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxZ_rixvzZU ]
This is one of those kinda funny songs. It’s all about a guy trying to convince a girl to go out with him (in which she dodges his advances). It’s a more modern take on liking someone in high school and how teens usually go about it. It makes me chuckle when I think about Jason trying his best to get Keira to go out with him, but she is just not having it (she had a hard time at first, but the more he persisted the more she secretly loved it). Eventually, she just says, “I’ll think about it.”
12) CAN’T STOP THE FEELING // Justin Timberlake
❝I got that sunshine in my pocket / got that good soul in my feet.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz2lLTlUcxQ ]
This song is Keira and Jason’s go to jam. They enjoy going on car rides and road trips, it’s one of their favorite things to do together. Keira is usually in charge of the music and whenever this song comes on, the volume goes up and the ugly singing comes out. By the time the song is over they’re both laughing so hard that Jason almost swerves into oncoming traffic (he’s not the best driver).
13) IRIS // Boyz Ⅱ Men
❝No one knows me quite the way you know me / and I'd be lonely without you beside me.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGfe26GyYjU ]
I love this version of this song. The harmonies give me goosebumps. But anyways, this song reminds me of Jason and Keira’s relationship. It’s all about being afraid to show who you really are and the two of them are like that. Even though they are close to the other Rangers, there’s just something about their relationship that gives them the courage to share everything with each other. With the two of them becoming so close, no one else really knows who they are deep down except for each other. They put on a face, try their best to please others and be something that they’re not. But both of them know that they could trust each other with who they really are. And that’s special.
14) I GET TO LOVE YOU // Ruelle
❝One look at you, my whole life falls in line.❞
[ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGAzVbQC-18 ]
This song is about just looking at the person you love and realizing how lucky you are to love them. Jason and Keira have a habit of staring at each other when the other isn’t looking. Classic in love, admiration eyes. When they look at each other, they know everything is okay and organized. They understand why they’re here. They would put each other’s happiness over their own. They’ll forever love each other and don’t need anyone else.

On September 8, 1930, in the midst of the Great Depression, the world was introduced to Blondie Boopadoop, a dizzy blonde flapper created by Murat Bernard ‘Chic’ Young. Blondie debuted in newspapers across the country on that day. She was Chic Young’s fourth strip featuring a young woman, but this was the one to catch fire and eventually become iconic in the world of comics and media at large. It is hard to believe that the blonde hero of blissful domesticity turns 90 and that her stories remain tops with audiences the world over.
Blondie’s early days featured the star popular in dating circles. Her courtships made for several storylines. Blondie’s main squeeze, however, was bumbling playboy Dagwood Bumstead, son of millionaire industrialist, J. Bolling Bumstead. Dagwood introduced Blondie to his ill-natured father in the very first strip announcing their plans to marry. The elder Bumstead was aghast that his son would be interested in a woman of Blondie’s lowly social status.
For the next couple of years, the Blondie comics centered on the couple’s struggles to get the Bumsteads to agree to the pairing. Blondie does everything imaginable to no avail. In the meantime, she also entertains several other admirers – although Dagwood was never far away. With readership dwindling, Chic Young and the comic’s distributer, King Features Syndicate, decided Blondie and Dagwood should finally get married and in February 1933 they did much to the chagrin of the Bumsteads who disowned their son and heir. Mr. and Mrs. Bumstead only grudgingly acknowledged the union because Dagwood went on a hunger strike that lasted over 28 days spotlighted by daily coverage and countdowns that helped circulation. Every day people tuned in to see how Dagwood was doing on the hunger strike. After all, one of his favorite pasttimes has always been eating. One of my favorite Blondie scenes is of Dagwood emerging from his bed after the hunger strike to reveal loads of dishes under the covers.
It was after the marriage of the disinherited blissfully happy Dagwood and the carefree vivacious Blondie took place that audiences truly warmed to their humorous domestic escapades. Blondie and Dagwood became a happy family whose troubles reflected those of the readers’ in many ways. The couple started their married life penniless, as were most during the Depression, which lent itself to many enjoyable scenes. First Dagwood’s need to find work made great stories and eventually so did his relationship with his boss Mister Dithers. However, the charms of Blondie the strip relied on the couple’s home life and its place in the pantheon of all things domestic comedy, which was a revolutionary one at that as Chic Young insisted that the young Bumsteads share a double bed, not the twin beds audiences saw on all other domestic stories in media. (loc.gov) In fact, the Bumsteads did not share a bed in their movie incarnations.
As the strip continued its run, Blondie and Dagwood changed as did their family. Blondie, who started as an airhead of sorts, became the Bumstead voice of reason and Dagwood became the flake to whom all things happen. Part of Dagwood’s charm is he remains a child of sorts, an innocent whose zany antics we cannot get enough of and all because he can’t seem to get things quite right. Except his sandwich, which is a masterpiece every single time.
On April 15, 1934, the couple welcomed their first child, Baby Dumpling (later Alexander) who received almost as much media attention as baby Ricardo on “I Love Lucy” two decades later. Except without the power of television.
In 1941, Blondie and Dagwood welcomed a daughter, Cookie, whose name was chosen by hundreds of thousands of submissions in a contest run by Chic Young. Blondie’s popularity soared when the Bumsteads became a family in earnest in their home in Joplin, Missouri, including Daisy (family dog and Dagwood’s best friend) and the pups. At the height of its popularity, Blondie rivaled Peanuts. No doubt, this creation by Chic Young is one of the all-time greats in the pantheon of comic strips. I would say a masterpiece people have enjoyed for its love conquers all stories and wonderful drawings. It has been one of my favorites for years.
Aside from daily strips and Sunday editions, the Bumsteads have enjoyed comic book popularity as well with seven versions spanning from 1947 to 1976.
As you probably know Blondie’s popularity jumped to screens and the airwaves as well. As far as the movies go, the story is that as the strip’s popularity grew, Columbia Pictures’ boss Harry Cohn decided that the characters had potential for a B-picture or two so he signed a deal with Chic Young. The result was a 28-picture, 12-year run between 1938 and 1950. All twenty-eight movies star Penny Singleton as Blondie and Arthur Lake as Dagwood. The first and best is Frank Strayer’s Blondie. Strayer directed more than a dozen of the Blondie pictures.
Some of the signature gags from the strip made it into the movies such as Dagwood running into the mailman every morning as he is late for work causing the mail to fly all over the place. That happened early in all of the movies welcoming devoted fans to the hijinks of their favorite family. Following Dagwood’s signature,” Blondieeeeee.” Dagwood’s legendary sandwich also made its way into every single one of the movies and into Webster’s New World Dictionary.
The first movie in the series sees the Bumsteads about to celebrate their fifth anniversary, but money troubles ensue. They have money troubles often in their history. In fact, the Bumstead budget, as Blondie mentions in one of the movies, is the pulse of the family. Dagwood asks for a raise from Mr. Dithers (Jonathan Hale), owner of the J. C. Dithers Construction Company, with whom Dagwood is always at odds just like in the strip. Blondie, on the other hand, orders new furniture (from an uncredited Charles Lane) since they just finished paying off other furniture. Her logic is impeccable, a logic inherited by an almost-too-cute Baby Dumpling (Larry Simms). Dagwood loses his job after getting into a jam at work, but makes up for it by wooing a wealthy businessman (Gene Lockhart) into investing with the Dithers Company.
Staying true to the comic strip, Blondie (1938) features several of the same characters throughout the series played by the same actors. Aside from Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake, Larry Simms plays Baby Dumpling in all of the movies. He was so popular in the role that he was credited as “Baby Dumpling” in Frank Capra’s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) where he plays the Hopper Boy. Marjorie Ann Mutchie (as Marjorie Kent) makes her debut as Cookie Bumstead in Frank Strayer’s It’s a Great Life (1943), the thirteenth movie in the series and one of the few without “Blondie” in the title. More on that later.

Rounding out the regulars that make up the Bumstead family is Daisy, the cocker Spaniel/Poodle/Terrier mix whose real name was Spooks and plays the Bumstead’s trusted pooch with flair. Spooks appeared in a good number of movies in character parts, but is best remembered as Daisy. The prolific Willie Best appears as a porter in the first movie and does what he can with the stereotypical part he is given. Best plays varied roles throughout the series and remains mostly uncredited. Fay Helm appears in several Blondie movies as Mrs. Fuddle, neighbor to the Bumsteads and Blondie’s best friend. Danny Mummert plays her son Alvin, Baby Dumpling’s nemesis.
The Blondie movies are typical B-fare. They are fun, perfect for Saturday mornings, but substance is hard to come by. There are a few hearty laughs like the one in Blondie with the talking scale in the hotel men’s bathroom. It advertises your favorite radio voice will talk to you and when it does, it tells Dagwood he’s a loser.
Probably the best part of the series, however, are the actors that appear throughout. If you are a fan of the great character players you’ll get to see the likes of Donald Meek, John Qualen, Edgar Kennedy, William Frawley, and Mary Wickes to name a few. Many future major Columbia stars also make appearances. I was quite surprised to see Rita Hayworth, for instance, play prominently in Blondie on a Budget (1940). She is an old friend of Dagwood’s who plays right into Blondie’s jealous hands. When Blondie was not trying to finagle the family budget in order to buy something, she spent her time worrying that Dagwood would leave her for another woman.

The Blondie movie series ended with Edward Bernds’ Beware of Blondie (1950) where we see Dagwood in charge of the Dithers Construction Company while the boss is on vacation. You can just imagine how well that goes. Adele Jergens plays Miss Clifton, a con woman who takes advantage of Dagwood’s innocence to get to Dithers’ money. Of course, all turns out fine in the end with one important resolution to the series to close out a continuous loop. The mailman (Dick Wessel) decides to end Dagwood running into him finally by delivering the Bumstead mail on his own time at night. No more dirty uniforms. No more bruises. No more scattered mail. Unfortunately, the day he decides to do his first night delivery is tax day and guess who runs out of the house to mail his taxes at the last minute.
By the time Beware of Blondie was made the stories were stretched thin. The familiar Bumstead elements held the movies together as the family survived all sorts of domestic misadventures. According to AFI, Columbia had lost interest in the series after the first fourteen installments. They released two movies without Blondie’s name in the title and stopped producing the series in 1943. However, audiences wanted more and production resumed for another fourteen movies making this series the longest in terms of pictures to date. When the Blondie pictures ceased altogether in 1950, Columbia intended to replace it with another comic strip series, but that fell way short at the box office forcing the studio to reissue all 28 Blondie pictures.

America’s love affair with Blondie, Dagwood and the gang was not limited to movies, as we well know. The comic strip continued to strong readership and between 1939 and 1950, Blondie was also heard on radio. Arthur Lake played Dagwood in this version as well with Penny Singleton replaced by Alice White, Patricia Van Cleve and Ann Rutherford at various times. Blondie originally aired on CBS with Camel Cigarettes as its sponsor and later moved to NBC and Super Suds. Lake and Singleton made an appearance as Blondie and Dagwood on The Bob Hope Show following the 1938 release of the first movie, which led to their own show as a summer replacement for The Eddie Cantor Show. They originally aired on Monday evenings at 7:30 and just as the strip helped Depression-era audiences forget their troubles, the radio show helped them through World War II. Enjoy the following episodes of Blondie out of the funnies and into your homes…
Unlike radio and the movies, attempts to bring Blondie to television proved unsuccessful. Its power were in the mediums already discussed, but it’s at least worth a mention that those in charge thought enough of the characters and their stories to give them several attempts at TV productions. The first such attempt, Blondie, premiered on January 4, 1957 on NBC and ran for one season. Pamela Britton starred as Blondie with Arthur Lake reprising his famous role once again. Stuffy Singer, Florenz Ames, Ann Barnes, and Harold Peary were also in the cast. In 1968, CBS gave Blondie a turn with The New Blondie, which also ran for one season. Patricia Harty and Will Hutchins star as Blondie and Dagwood in this version with real-life married couple Jim and Henny Backus as Mr. and Mrs. Dithers with Pamelyn Ferdin and Peter Robbins playing the Bumstead kids. As you can tell from the short run of both series, neither managed to capture the charm of the Bumsteads the other versions of their stories did.
Chicago native Chic Young drew Blondie seven days a week from 1930 until his death in 1973 producing more than 15,000 strips. His legacy, continued by his son Dean Young, is one of warmth and humor and home. No matter the decades that have passed, people still visit with the Bumsteads – 90 years after meeting them. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for the laughter during difficult times.
Chic Young’s BLONDIE turns 90! On September 8, 1930, in the midst of the Great Depression, the world was introduced to Blondie Boopadoop, a dizzy blonde flapper created by Murat Bernard 'Chic' Young.

3. Do you write fics from start to finish, or jump around?
Well, I tend to do start to finish, mostly. There are sometimes scenes that demand to be written RIGHT NOW DAMMIT... and I then do that just to make them shut up.
My issue is jumping from fic to fic. I’ll write one, another will pop into my head and so I write that and then I have to go back to the first and... wait... what... is that a scene for Dark Times in my head... and so on!
5. What is the perfect environment environment for you to write in?
I’m in it now. Sadly, it doesn’t mean I can always write. I am alone in my living room apart from my dog, tv on, headphones on and music playing. I used to be able to write at any time of the day, now mostly I write best in the morning. Which is a pain as I work most mornings! : (
8. Do you listen to music while you write? If so, share a song that’s been inspiring you lately.
I always listen to music. I have a playlist on itunes that I’ve called “Dark Times, with 182 songs. The songs range from The Who, Nirvana, Depeche Mode (ALL HAIL DAVE GAHAN), Linkin Park (I miss Chester, so tragic, their music was Penumbra), Muse (I adore Uprising) The Cranberries, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, The Jam, Tears for Fears, Harry Styles (Yep.....), Alice in Chains, Green Day, Disturbed, Dave not Dave, Adele, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Ultravox, Imagine Dragons, John Williams (gotta have some Star Wars soundtracks) and many many more.
It;s not necessarily the lyrics of a song, it’s the sound that inspires me. Also it helps if I can dance around the kitchen to it (not a pretty sight at my age!)
I think one that has caught me just now is The Hu and not just because of Fallen Order, but you heard Wolf Totem? I have a friend, Kazlynh (also a brilliant writer) who does belly dancing and she is always introducing me to amazing music from around the world. I knew of The Hu before Sugaan Essena.
