BANSHEE
Love this film. This is what a horror short film should be: creepy, simple/to the point plot, and a great villain/monster reveal! Most “horror” shorts are bloated 15-20 minute pieces that are more dark dramas than actual scary stories. With no budget and barely a crew, filmmaker Matt Ditko tapes into a big bucket of creativity, utilizing the tools around him to craft a tale of terror. Keeping the monster almost out of sight, always goes well for a project of this size, as the viewer’s imagination fills in the holes, creating pure horror.

GOLIATH
Tumblr media
Junkyard Demento on Tumblr, who I have re-blogged, has said the following on his post:
"Similar to something you'd see out of a scene from a videogame, GOLIATH has the easy to consume setup of a monster slayer battling said monster, or better put, a Goliath! The use of a real actor in a complete CGI environment is commonplace nowadays, but this one was still fun."
No argument there.
912-1
The Sci*Fi CGI (Computer-generated imagery - Wikipedia) short film is about a futuristic realm where colossal robots clash in epic battles, a fearless female warrior rises against a formidable mechanical giant, embodying the spirit of David and Goliath in a high-octane showdown for the ages.

The production gap between feature films and shorts is basically nonexistent thanks to today’s technology. With the right equipment, crew and imagination, you can make just about anything without having to beg a studio to produce your story. At just under 9 minutes, MIGHT could easily blow out of the water, the majority of 90′s blockbusters as far as visual effects and how epic a story can be. Not understanding the dialogue here isn’t needed, as the visuals and acting allows you to connect the dots, letting you enjoy this Sci-Fi feast influenced by films such as STARGATE and the RIDDICK franchise.

On April 2, 1968, Stanley Kubrick’s masterful science fiction film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ had its world premiere in Washington, D.C. Here’s to the 50th anniversary of Kubrick’s pioneering achievement as one of the most significant films ever made.
Special thanks to all who attended the Friday Night Social event last night, 5/4, at the Moment Hotel’s Roof Deck Lounge. The weather was great and the networking was better!
I’m in the early stages of my next animation. It’s based on a picture by ReadyForTheMoshPit (https://bit.ly/2jqNCZX) that I absolutely love!

YOU MING ZHI: SLAYING THE DRAGON
You literally forget you're watching a short film. That's how supreme the quality of this proof-of-concept is. Feature level animation, professional character design and computer animation, all leads to one of the most impression short films I've seen in some time. A must watch for fans of animation and genre content.

THE OLDEST VIEW - BENEATH THE EARTH
The evolution of Kane Parsons aka Kane Pixels continues to impress me. He's a teenage filmmaker that really made the creepy pasta element of The Backrooms his own, so much so, that he got an A24 deal out of it. Now, Kane continues to explores new boundaries this time playing moving from found footage and exploring the popularity of explore vlogging, that takes the viewer to some mysterious steps that head deep into the Earth. Who made them and where exactly they lead to, well, that's the hook and uneasy dread that the viewer has to go along with.

VILLAIN
As Bella Ramsey preps for season 2 of THE LAST OF US, this mini movie by Sparky Tehnsuko reminds us how great of an actor Bella is. With minimal dialogue, Bella's performance is all in the face as the range of emotions that her character goes through on this quest of revenge is on full display!

THE MECHANICAL DANCER
Could this have been a few minutes shorter? Sure, but looking past that, this is certainly a love letter to German Expressionism, specifically: The Cabinet of Dr Caligari. The animation design and use of only music to convey what's going on and the emotions the characters are feeling, works great!

FOODLOSSLLA
He gave us GODZILLA MINUS ONE, now Takashi Yamazaki and his talented team unleash another kaiju on Japan... this one made of trash! Created for the food company Ajinomoto, this commercial is epic and fun, giving us a glance at the talent and creativity that won an Oscar for the epic success of everyone's favorite giant lizard!

DEATH AND THE WINEMAKER
We’ve seen variations on the story of humans tricking and trapping the devil or death, so we’ll look past any plot holes you can spot. The star of this film, however, is absolutely the animation. A beautiful macabre experience, which you don’t find much in either long or short form entertainment. Victor Jaquier elevates all the elements here by anchoring them in rich, stunning animated visuals and moments. This is a must watch for genre fans, or fans of animation in general.

HOUSE OF THE UNHOLY
How much of the budget should be allocated to production design and costumes? A resounding YES was Daniel Merlot’s answer. Highly impressive visuals on all levels, as everything that Merlot and his team could think of is on screen. Part fever dream, part music video, and part absurdist fantasy, do yourself a favor and watch this highly entertaining journey into creativity.

THE DRAWING
A horror short film under three minutes? Uh, yes please! Many filmmakers get lost in attempting to create an effective horror short film that ends up dragging in pace and story, and almost always end 15 minutes and more. Keeping it simple and spooky is what most memorable horror short films should be. Jay Salahi does just that with THE DRAWING, focusing on visual storytelling and setups, without any dialogue.

NALUJUK NIGHT
Krampus gets all the attention for terrorizing kids during the holidays, but have you heard of the Nalujuk? Masked, dressed in animal furs, and carrying spears, these terrifying characters appear out of the night to give gifts to the good kids, while also chasing and beating the bad kids. This beautiful and stunning mini-doc is a look into this little known fascinating cultural tradition of the Inuit communities. This felt like part horror movie, part docu-mystery series ala In Search Of, which I really love.

MAKE DO OR MEND
At first, I really wasn't sure what's happening (and honestly, still not 100% confident), but as the story unfolds you start to link together the story pieces, and the end result is a satisfying scifi/horror short. Basically, this is a proof-of-concept where we get a scene to a bigger story, but the costume work, set dressing, and practical makeup work, really help pull you in.

HOME ALONE THE ANIME
Should I have posted this in December? Yep, but oh well! If you've ever wondered what the holiday classic, HOME ALONE would look like as an anime, the team at Cartuna answers that "what if?" with this clever and fun short. Getting an animated Joe Pesci, that alone, is worth the view.

FIRST BLOOD
Starting 2024 off with some body horror goodness. Girls moving into womanhood have been done effectively like the 1976 classic, CARRIE, but in recent years it hasn't really been explored fully. Olivia Loccisano's First Blood tries to offer up a new angle by adding the element of vampirism and a heavy dash of cannibalism. Low on dialogue but heavy on imagery and shot compositions, this short film certainly is able to established an eerie mood.

Violet Butterfield: Makeup Artist for the Dead
At the drive-in, this would be the perfect pairing to play in front of 2016's THE LOVE WITCH. Cinema siblings with the same visual style, story tone, and production execution. Chances are this might get fleshed out and made as an independent feature. The dark macabre humor really play well with the characters and time setting.
