Ben and Jen: Anti-heros

"This place has everything!" Gwen exclaimed looking through a hotel brochure. The Tennyson family was finally out of the desert and in New York City checking into a four-star hotel. Sunny was the most excited about the hotel so Ben and Jen vowed to be on their best behavior for her. "Ben, look!" Jen excitedly whispered to Ben and pointed. Ben turned his attention and his eyes widened, "The new Sumo Slammers video game is in there.!" Ben exclaimed and ran to the door with Jen.

A strong arm was quickly dropped in front of the twins "Not so fast snowflakes." the guard said. Ben and Jen stepped back and looked at the guy, "You two can't get in without a pass." he said giving a stern look. Ben and Jen felt around in their pockets, "Oh, there they are." Jen said and pointed into the room. The guard looked and laying on the ground by the game were two passes. "Oh, a go ahead," he said and let Ben and Jen in.

The twins rushed to the game and each grabbed a controller and began to play. Meanwhile, Max, Gwen, and Sunny were at the elevator but stopped. "Where are Ben and Jen?" Max asked not seeing the twins anywhere. Gwen felt her stomach drop "Oh no, they are up to something." Gwen said she knew things were about to go sour.

Back with the twins, they were currently tied on wins. "Haha, you are going down," Jen said getting Ben down to his last life. "I don't think so, YOU are going down," Ben said gaining the upper hand. Then a hand landed on the twin's shoulders, "You are both going down." an angry voice said. The twins turned and saw the guard and he was accompanied by two people. "We will take our passes back." one said and the twins nervously chuckled.

The last of the family's suitcases were thrown at their feet, "And stay out!" the guard yelled. "Fine by us Baldie;" Ben and Jen yelled then turned and were met with angry faces. "Back to the RV," Max said pointing a stern finger. The twins didn't say a word and headed for the RV.

Once they were back Max began his lecture. "I already paid for the hotel. How could you two get us kicked out?" Max asked his face turning red from anger. "It wasn't that big of a deal." Jen said crossing her arms, "To you two, and that's all you care about. Why can't you be more like Gwen?" Max said and something inside the twins snapped.

"SHUT UP!!" Ben and Jen screamed in unison and Max stumbled back. "NO ONE cares about us. That's why we only care for each other!!" Ben screamed his eyes gaining a bright glow. "Sure, Ken and Aunt Vera are on our side but they are hardly in our lives. And do you think it's easy ALWAYS being compared to Gwen? DO YOU!?!" Jen cried her eyes gaining the same glow as Ben's.

Gwen and Sunny ran to the back and cowered in fear. Max stepped back further, he didn't know what to say. "Ya know, the whole reason we came on this trip is that we thought we would be safe, safe from being compared to Gwen. Then surprise surprise, there is Gwen and YOU, comparing us to her." Jen said pointing a harsh finger at Max. "We are SICK OF IT!!" Ben screamed and Mana covered his body, "We are SICK OF THIS FAMILY!!" Jen added Mana covering her body as well. Ben and Jen flew through the roof of the RV and into the city.

Max sat stunned, he never knew how he and everyone else was making them feel. "We need to go find them," Max said and got in the driver's seat. "What about the food?" Gwen asked looking through the he at the sky. "We will worry about it later, the twins are more important right now," Max said and started driving.

Meanwhile, Ben and Jen landed and went into an arcade full of people. The twins went to the back of the arcade and fell to the floor. "I hate this, I hate this!" Jen growled slamming her hands on the ground. Ben grilled as well, he had some serious pent-up anger and needed to let it out. "I hate this too, but not as much as I hate our family right now," Ben growled and clenched his hands into tight fists.

"Where ya going freak, home to recharge your batteries?" Ben and Jen looked at the voice speaking. Ben and Jen saw a group of guys and they had a boy surrounded. "We both know we're thinking the same thing," Jen said and stood to her feet and Ben followed. The twins approached the group and imagined them all as different people.

"Hey, leave him alone!" Ben yelled gaining the group's attention. "Ha, look boys a couple more freaks." one laughed but he wasn't laughing for long. Born swung a nana-covered fist and with the help of his Ox talisman he sent the punk flying. "Let him go." Jen hissed and kicked another guy square in the balls then when he fell she kicked him in the face. The rest of the guys stepped back and the boy stood behind Ben and Jen. "This is gonna hurt," Ben growled and he and Jen started going crazy on the guys.

A few minutes later the guys had enough and ran away black and blue. Ben and Jen were doubled over, breathing heavily, and were sweaty. "Wow, you guys are awesome." the kid said alerting Ben and Jen he was still there. Ben and Jen turned to face the kid, "Thanks, I'm Ben, and this is my sister Jen." Ben said finally getting a good look at the boy. He was slightly taller than Ben, scrawny, with shoulder-length black hair, and brown eyes. He was dressed in a torn black t-shirt, shorts, boots, and a padlock necklace. The boy smiled, "aim Kevin, Kevin Levin." he said then his smile turned into a frown.

"Hey, are you two okay?" Kevin asked using his thumbs to wipe at the corners of Ben's eyes. Ben felt his face getting hot and quickly moved Kevin's hands away, "We gave been better." Ben said. "Ben, Jen!" Gwen's voice rang out and Ben and Jen stiffened. Gwen then came pushing through a crowd of people, "Come back right now!!" Gwen demanded storming toward her cousins.

"No." Ben and Jen said in Union then started running and Kevin followed them. "You got anywhere we can go?" Jen asked looking over her shoulder at Kevin. "Yeah, this way." Kevin ran ahead and led the twins to an abandoned subway.

"Ok, too much running and use of energy," Jen said and collapsed on the cold floor and Ben did the same. Kevin stared at the twins then sat on the floor beside Ben and began messing with his hair. "Not one for boundaries huh?" Ben asked turning his head and smiling at Kevin. "In this current moment no," Kevin said and began scratching Ben's scalp, Ben smiled and closed his eyes with a sigh.

A silence settled over the three before Jen broke it. "So why was that gang after you?" she asked turning her head to look at Kevin. "I kinda trashed their hangout under the 39th Street bridge. What about you two what was the deal with that girl?" Kevin asked and the twins sighed. "That girl was our picture-perfect cousin, Gwen," Ben said sitting up and pulling his knees to his chest. "We tricked a guard at a hotel we were staying at to play the new Sumo Slammers game and got us and our family kicked out of the hotel. That led to a fight with our Grandpa and we ran off after he compared us to her." Ben said resting his head on his knees.

"He compares you two to her?' Kevin asked and Jen nodded. "The only people who don't compare us to her and actually support us are our cousin Ken, Aunt Vera, and cousin Sunny. Our mom and Grandpa our ok, but still bad." Jen said and sat up and stood to her feet. "Anyway, we should get out of your hair. Sunny is probably tracking us wouldn't want you to get caught up in an alien fight," Ben said and stood up but Kevin grabbed his hand.

Ben gasped as he felt a slight shock and he could tell Kevin felt it too. Kevin let go, "Sorry, guess my energy slipped out." Kevin said then held up his hand. Kevin's hand was covered in energy and the twins stared before smiling. "Guess we don't have to ditch you." Ben said, "So, what should we do?" Jen asked wrapping an arm around Ben and pulling Kevin close by his shirt. Ben and Kevin both blushed and looked away from each other. "Umm, I have an idea," Kevin said with a smirk and the twins smirked back.

Later after night had fallen Kevin led the twins to a warehouse holding copies of the Sumo Slammers game. "I got a tip that a shipment just came in," Kevin said and grabbed the panel by the door and short-circuited it. "Help me kick in the door," Kevin said and he and Jen kicked in the door.

The three ran inside and Kevin went to a crate and opened it to reveal the game. "Waits over," Kevin said and tossed Ben and Jen a game each. "Awesome!" the twins exclaimed but then smoke grenades were thrown through the windows. "Oh crap, time to go!" Kevin said and grabbed Ben's hand and Jen followed. The kids ran to the door but they couldn't get out everything was blocked. "I got this," Ben said and sent a sharpened mana wave at the swat team.

It was enough to scare everyone and the twins flew up and carried Kevin with their mana. "All right!" Kevin cheered as they worked through the sky but a helicopter showed up. "You gotta be kidding me," Jen said and headed for the city. "Did video games always require swat teams?" Ben asked and followed Jen. The twins flew down low near the ground and tossed Kevin into an alley and out of sight.

Ben turned and there another sharpened mana wave, Jen did the same. The helicopters began to malfunction and crashed, but Ben and Jen pulled everyone from inside to safety. "Let's go," Ben said and dropped the people he was holding in a dumpster then flew away. Jen just dropped hers and followed after Ben. "We should walk and keep low, I'. pretty sure I saw the RV." Jen said and Ben nodded and the twins landed in an alley and headed back to Kevin.

Kevin sat in the alley the twins left him in, he hit the ground kinda hard. "Kevin!" Ben and Jen came running and Ben dropped to his knees beside Kevin, "Are you ok?" he asked. Kevin blushed, Ben was really close, but he wasn't complaining. "Yeah, just a few scratches and bruises," Kevin said giving Ben a warm smile. Ben smiled back then blushed realizing just how close he was to Kevin.

"Will you two just kiss already?" Jen asked smirking at the two. Ben and Kevin blushed a bright red, "Shut up!" they said in unison and Jen laughed. "Sorry, it's just really obvious you two like each other." Jen said and sat down beside Ben, "But we can worry about that later." she added then her stomach growled. "Right now we worry about getting some food," Ben said and his stomach growled too. "Hmm, I have an idea," Kevin said and the twins were all ears.

"Let's be a team. With my know-how and your awesome powers, we can be unstoppable." Kevin said and offered his hands out to the twins. The twins looked at Kevin's hands and nodded, "Ok, but we have one condition." Ben said and Kevin raised a brow. "We be Anti-heroes, like robin hood," Jen said and Kevin thought for a moment. Kevin knew what an Anti-hero was but he never saw himself as one, he didn't think he fit the profile.

Kevin hummed and let his eyes travel to Ben, those big green eyes and bright smile. Kevin smiled, "Deal." he said and the twins took his hands. The kids smiled but then their stomachs growled. "So, what was that plane of yours?" Jen asked and Kevin smiled.

"Grandpa, we have been looking all day. We are never going to find them in this city." Gwen said getting tired and hungry. "We will find them Gwen. We have to find them." Max said with a determined look. Gwen sighed and looked out the window, why did he want to find them so bad anyway? After the twin's outburst earlier than them running away, why did he want them back?

Gwen thought back to what the twins said earlier and she frowned. Ben and Jen did get compared to her a lot, every minute of their lives actually. All their achievements were compared to Gwen's and looked down upon no matter how impressive they were. Gwen began thinking back to every achievement the twins made then how it was compared to hers and how she rubbed it in their faces.

Gwen looked down at her lap as something else crossed her mind. 'They wanted to come on this trip because they were gonna get compared to me if they stayed home.' Gwen felt tears building in her eyes. Gwen was always terrible to Ben and Jen and she ruined the one break they had.

"Whoa!" Gwen was pulled from her thoughts by the RV suddenly stopping. Gwen looked and saw a helicopter laying in the middle of the road. "I think Ben and Jen were here," Sunny said emerging from the back. "Any luck tracking them?" Max asked hoping it was a yes. "No, my emotions are still running high, I can't function too well like this," Sunny said and sat across from Gwen.

"Attention, all citizens are encouraged to stay off the 39th Street bridge. It has been claimed to be collapsing and sightings of green blast have been reported." the radio announced and Max wasted no time.

Meanwhile, the gang Ben and Jen beat up earlier were coward in a corner. Kevin was taking all the money from their stash and filling his pockets. "You freaks won't get away with this, we will go to the police." one of the guys said. Ben, Jen, and Kevin raised a brow, "You're gonna go to the police?" Ben asked and the guys nodded. "And you're gonna tell them to money you stole was stolen by three kids with powers?" Jen asked not believing these guys were that stupid.

The guys shared a look, "Uuhhh?" they said in unison. "Done!" Kevin approached Ben and Jen, his pockets overflowing with money, "time to bail." he added. Ben and Jen nodded and let the guys go and stopped supporting the bridge, but it didn't fall. "Ben, Jen!" everyone looked and saw Gwen, Sunny, and Max. Sunny was supporting the bridge and Gwen rushed over, "What are you two doing?" she asked. Anger was clear in Gwen's voice and on her face.

"None of your business," Ben said and turned to walk away. "It is now," Gwen said and gripped Ben's arm tightly. "Hey!?' "Let go of him!!" Kevin grabbed Gwen's wrist and was about to shock her, but it didn't go as planned. Kevin absorbed the watch energy by mistake and began to transform. "Kevin!" Ven and Jen cried and went to help but Max grabbed them. "We are leaving now," Max said and ran with Ben and Jen in his arms.

"NO, LET US GO!!" Ben screamed and tried to get away but his powers weren't working. Ben and Jen watched as the bridge collapsed with Kevin still under it and Ben began to break down. When Max finally put Ben and Jen down in the RV they ran to the back and Ben buried his face in a pillow. Jen sat by Ben and tried to comfort him, but she was having no luck. Eventually Jen stopped and grabbed her and Ben's backpacks and began packing.

"Wh-What are you d-doing?" Ben asked finally pulling his face from the pillow. Jen looked at Ben with a smile, "Packing our stuff to get out of here." Jen whispered and put her backpack on. Ben sniffled and smiled "Yeah, let's go." Ben whispered and grabbed his bag. The twins opened the RV window and flew out not looking back.
