Photo of me at the legendary Camden Town music venue in London, which was frequented by rock idols of the English music scene, such as Amy Winehouse, Graham Coxon (Blur), Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys). I'm in front of the door where the live music shows take place and where Blur also performed in public for the first time. The place is very cool, especially if you want a very rock atmosphere, which also includes a certain smell of smoke, sweat and beer; but that for the place it is I see it as a positive side.

ive recently started reading The Heart Between Kingdoms by @kendsleyauthor and @marydublinauthor but the thing is i've actually tried reading this before but due to reasons that are too embarrassing to confess, i'd stopped reading it before i even finished it. AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE IT'S BAD. far from it! like i said, my reasons for not finishing it are embarrassing and a bit silly lol
anyway, i'm giving it another read this time around but this time i WILL finish it. i love esmae and daniel too much. just want to make it clear it's not the book's fault i'd stopped reading it lol
this cover is SOOOO pretty they're really good with book covers tbh
Tumblr media
also im really looking forward to reading the restoration program, a book that will be released july 1st, by the same aforementioned authors :)

Modern transport at it's best! by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Via Flickr: I don't know about you but I'm tired of looking at castles and big houses! I want to get out and about and see people and places in their daily settings so what better way to do it than in an open topped tram? This pristine "Perrott Steam Car" fits the bill to perfection! 1997 Dublin - Number 24 - Katrina and The Waves - "Love Shine A Light"
youtube
It's another case of me putting the winner in the twenties. There's no doubt that Love Shine a Light is a strong song sung well, and having a relatively big name like Katrina & the Waves helped. However this song feels positively Maltese to me. It's a song that drifts through the open door of a charismatic church meeting. It's distilled Eurovision sentiment, wanting to see absolutely everyone saturated and dripping with a surfeit of love. Love, love, love. It's pitched way above my love tolerance levels.
Let's rewind a bit. In the UK, the Great British Song Contest was still riding the wave of Britpop, Three Lions and draping literally everything in the Union Jack. It was also still under the control of Jonathan King. The actual final, however, had been cut to 30 minutes on Mothering Sunday by the BBC with four of the eight songs eliminated thanks to radio only semi-final. This has resulted in three of those four songs just vanishing, with the one survivor only in discoverable because they'd appeared on the kids show Blue Peter the week before the competition which someone video-taped.
Katrina scraped home in a 100% televoted competition. It was a three-way fight for top spot with only four songs competing. Since 1995, the variety of songs in the competition was reducing with the BBC & Radio 2 tendency to default to MOR, so as to not scare the licence payers too much. Katrina epitomises this with added feel-good vibes. The BBC must have been very happy not only with the song, but with the win. It's everything that Terry Wogan could ever have dreamed of. Especially romping home in Dublin by 70 clear points. Of the four televoting countries who could vote for them, Katrina and the Waves scored 46 out a possible 48. It was a song that captured Europe's zeitgeist.
This is Katrina's only Eurovision entry or attempt. This one song revived the career of a band who had one major worldwide hit and relied on touring it. They now had two and Katrina would forever afterwards get work whenever anyone in the UK mentions the word 'Eurovision'. She even cropped up as a judge at Benidorm fest this year.

I’ve no time for an Taoiseach (head of the only significant party that opposed both marriage equality and abortion legislation) but he’s a political animal. As evidenced by his party’s flip-flop on both issues after the electorate showed them how badly they’d misjudged modern Ireland in the referenda.
But that’s the point…that’s why this article fills me with hope. He’s not looking to stoke the kind of culture war being waged next door or across the pond because he knows there’s no public opposition to trans rights in Ireland beyond the usual fringe minority of bigots.
UK TERFs tried to green face and import their agenda into Irish Twitter & were resoundingly told to fuck off. The Irish National Party threw transphobia onto their election platform alongside anti-immigration, pro-life, Euro-skeptic .etc and didn’t win a single seat.
I’ve said it before. Ireland’s fight for social justice was too recent. We remember the same arguments against contraception, divorce, LGBT rights & abortion access. We see the exact same ones in the anti-immigration & transphobic movements now. And we know that after trans people they’ll be used again to target those other groups.

1997 More interesting entries
youtube
Tajana - "Povedi me" (Croatia). I don't often try to highlight the full Jemini experiences, but they are a relatively frequent occurrence. Parts of this aren't bad, but other parts... This was the first song of Dora 1997. What a start.
youtube
Lei Moe - "Vejen til paradis" (Denmark). This song isn't bad. It nearly made my also rans for 1997, however what the hell is going on behind her? If this had qualified (it got fourth), we surely would have had an EBU ruling on body paint.
youtube
Gorm Bull Sarning - "Si' mig li' Mari'" (Denmark) - I think this is about Marie Antoinette. It's definitely a Danish song about seducing French girls. And then there's Gorm's reaction to costume reveal... It finished 3rd.
youtube
Do Re Mi & Kerry - "Yodel in the Canyon of Love" (United Kingdom) I have put this in my also-rans as it's an exceptionally guilty pleasure. The UK has never been a yodelling country. You can see why.
