My mind is in a mess and my thought are begging to be let out, to anyone and anything who will listen. So here I am.

Months ago I quit school for reasons and went over to help my boyfriend in his family business. I was new and no one taught/introduced me anything. So I did whatever I could to help the business, which wasn’t doing very well. I worked really hard the first few months and thought to myself that hey maybe this isn’t so bad. Maybe I’m doing a good job, maybe I’m helping.

The world is not a bad place, it really isn’t. But there will always be thorns in roses. And this place seems to be saturated with thorns. The adults here are so despicable it makes me lose hope in the world. They truly are the worst. The ones that smiles to you and feels like a friend but whispers ugly words about you when you turn your back. 

I was never born into a rich family. I was born into an average income family. My parents taught me respect, taught me how to treat people kindly and sometimes I look at some of these adults and I can’t help but shake my head. Being with a better off boyfriend meant that I had to watch my every move because, well, apparently people are watching my every move.

Respect. Adults demanding respect just because they are older is such a ludicrous concept. Respect is earned, not given. No matter what age you are, what gender, what race, you don’t “demanding respect”. Tell me, how do I respect someone, who is not blood related to me nor my boyfriend, who tried to make my boyfriend go on a date with another girl while he was dating me. And basically told him to dump me. And this woman talked to me smiling the next day.

I dyed my hair rose gold. Wanted to experience what it was like, wanted to experiment and express myself. Was told to dye it back to black. Not because it was not appropriate for work, no (I would’ve preferred this reason), it was because someone said I look like ah lian (local chinese female who is often associated with gangs and rude attitude). I behave nothing like one, in case you were wondering. I have always been reserved and shy. When I was young I was taught to be myself and not let other judge you. But now I have to change myself because someone judged me. Funny reality, funny.

My boyfriend goes to buy lunch for everyone in the office (4 people) so I would go with him to help him since it was quite some amount of food. Some people said I tagged along to go dating and slack off with him.

My office is upstairs while everyone else’s is downstairs. Just because they’ve never seen me grinding everyday. Just because they didn’t see me going home later than everyone. They think I’m treating the office like my playground and disregards my hard work. It’s pretty unfair you know, and being told you pretty much suck from someone you look up to, after all the hard work you put in, you can’t help but become a mess.

But at the end of the day, the biggest victim, yet the biggest hero is my boyfriend. He tried to protect me from all these snakes, he really did. He did his best. He has suffered so much more than me. But sometimes the evil triumphs and there’s nothing we can do except slowly sharpening our blades and wait for that one day where the snakes become our pets.

Baby if you one day happen to chance upon this post, thank you for everything you’ve done. You may not know it but you are the greatest thing alive. None of this is ever your fault, none. Thank you for shouldering so much for us and I appreciate everything that you’ve done. Let us fight the world together.
