---------------------------------
Y/N never cared for movie stars or singers unlike all the other girls at the boarding school. Maybe her dad is the reason for it. She never had a real relationship with him. She was a bastard to him and a troublemaker.
And she did everything to make sure he would remember that. Getting thrown out of school, behaving like a wild child. All these things made her re-do her senior year, twice. Once every few months she is allowed to leave the school and visit her family, unlike the other kids at school, she wasn’t allowed to go home on weekends, her father’s choice.
Since her mom died over a year ago, she was forced to spend that time with her father, that was when she started to ‘misbehave’. Her father wanted her to walk around, dress and act like a lady should. While all she wanted was to travel the world.
Today he celebrated his 50th birthday and of course he invited all of Hollywood. It was also Y/N’s last few weeks at the school, and she is determined to make the best out of her life. She put on her persona of the perfect daughter, just to get out of that boarding school.
Y/N was allowed to attend the party that weekend, if she agreed to work as a servant and of course behave. Walking around with the food, asking if the already extremely drunk uncle Harry, your stepmother’s brother, needed another drink. But mostly just be eye candy like the other women here were.
Y/N is the youngest girl walking around, although no one would suspect she was. Her posture and manners made her look older, mature. But she wasn’t legally, allowed to drink yet, but then again there were more things she wasn’t allowed to do, and yet she already tried.
Her friends called her the rebel because she would sneak out to go to parties, had boyfriends who were just a little too old for her. And when they wanted to know “things” they didn’t teach at the boarding school they would knock on her door.
But when it came to these events she knew how to behave. She would walk around with a certain flair. And instead of punching a man in the face when he touched her, she learned how to ‘dance’ around them.
Y/N got used to the looks of the men by now, but there was one man in particular that caught her eye. It took her a while to recognise him without his uniform, but then it hit her. Soldier Boy... her mother did tell her stories about this superhero before going to bed.
How he would watch over her and keep her safe, but the man sitting there, who hasn’t aged a day, didn’t seem much like the man you thrust your kids to. And of course, daddy dearest knew the most famous supe of all.
While she waited at the bar on the refills for Uncle Harry, she watched how every woman at the party threw herself at his feet. Including your younger ‘sister’. While he smoked his cigar, ignored the underaged girl, he talked and laughed with the man and your father.
Y/N must have been staring a little too long because he turned his head to her, without scanning the area first. Not knowing he had his eye on her this entire time.
When his green eyes looked right at her, she felt her breath hitch. Goose bumps covered her from neck to toe. “Here you go luv.” Franky the bartender said. “T-thanks.” Her perfect painted red lips turned in a curl before she took the drinks out of his hands.
Y/N walked back to Harry, although she was great at pretending, pretending that her feet didn’t hurt became more and more challenging. Walking for hours and hours on these black heels made her feet hurt like hell.
She took one more glance at soldier boy, noticing how he was listening to her dad while his eyes scanned her body. He tilted his head, his eyes grew a darker shade of green. Clearly not caring about a word your dad was saying to him.
Y/N knew that look.
His eyes meet hers again, she would have sworn he smiled at her, not a teeth showing, heart drop smile, no, a god if I had you alone, the things I would do to you, grin. She took a deep breath right before her foot caught behind the carpet.
She was able to remain her balance but the drinks on the tray weren’t. The red wine fell over aunt Trina’s silk dress. “Oh my... I’m so, so sorry.” Y/N kneeled next to her, trying to help her by wiping her dress with her sleeve. Uncle Harry got up. “You stupid child! Do you have any idea how expensive this was.” His fat hand grabbed her by the cheeks.
Y/N could feel his fingers pinch into her skin, a little harder and he would have pierced her cheeks. He pulled her on to her feet. Y/N closed her eyes, she knew he got a little aggressive when he had a few to many but this was a Harry she has never seen before.
He let go of her for a second, but by the time she opened her eyes she felt a hard slap against her cheekbone. The impact made her tremble over the glasses on the floor, she fell down, cutting her hand in the process. Seeing how the very heavy man came closer.
Y/N’s uncle stood above her, she closed her eyes again, waiting for his next move when she heard a deep voice behind her. “Hey fat suit, leave the girl alone.” She looked over her shoulder, seeing soldier boy walking towards Harry.
Her dad tried to hold him back saying it is all a misunderstanding, trying not to let him intervene. He placed his hand on the supe’s shoulder, only to receive a stone-cold look, a warning to let him go. Which, smart as he was, he did. “You think you’re tough, hitting a girl half, hell, a third of your size.” He looked the man up and down.
Leaving Harry speechless, leaving the entire room speechless. Y/N looked up, she knew Soldier Boy was muscular, but sitting on the floor looking up at this man, who now stood beside her made it feel like she was looking at a god.
Y/N’s dad walked Harry and his wife towards the exit before this escaladed. The girls helped Y/N getting up while Soldier boy was still keeping his eyes on Harry. When he turned around Y/N was already at the bar with the other girls and Franky, taking care of her hand.
She looked over her shoulder to him, he could see the tears in her eyes, when she mouthed “thank you.”  to the supe. He only nodded in response, but she could see his eyes moving over her again. Different than before, more a look to see if she was alright.
Soldier boy walked slowly towards her, close enough to hear the conversation she had with her dad. “Why don’t you go to bed. The night is over for you.” - “I can stay if you want to. Clean up my mess.” She said waving at the broken glass at the floor. ‘Get to your room, you embarrassed us all tonight.”
“Just, I don’t know, tell them, you fired me or something.” - “I wish I could fire you as my daughter. Your sister is a well-behaved young woman, but you, you always make a scene, wherever you go. Now go, out of my sight.”
Soldier boy had heard the conversation, daughter, she sure wasn’t mentioned before when he met the other one. “Thomas.” He stopped her dad. “Who was that girl?” He saw his face turning green, “Ah eh... overpaid servant.” Soldier boys nodded not believing a word he said.
The night went on, Y/N could hear the music from downstairs playing. No way she would be able to sleep in this noise. So, she did what she always did when sleepless, draw. She took off her shoes, let down her hair, still slightly curled from the up do and removed that ridiculous red lipstick.
Taking a seat by the open window, letting the breeze through her hair. Her hand still hurts, so she placed her sketchbook on her knees, looked outside for inspiration, but all she could think of was soldier boy’s eyes. The emotions he had shown through them.
She got lost in her drawings, hearing a knock on her open door made her flinch. “Hi.” His deep voice echoed in her head. While he stepped inside. “What are you doing here?” She answered a little too rude. She saw soldier boy’s face change.
“I thought I come check on the sweet girl who just got punched in the face, but it seems like she left the building.” He turned his back to her, walking out of the door. Which her body clearly didn’t want, her stomach turned at the idea of him walking away. “Wait!” she almost jumped to her feet.
He stopped, “I’m sorry, I just had a really bad day.” she saw how his shoulders slightly dropped at ease. “And thank you, again.” He turned around, “Let me see.” looking around while pointing at her hand. Trying to look uninterested.
She felt his warm hand unwrapping the band aid. “It’s not too deep, it will heal nicely.” Y/N had trouble breathing, it felt like something pushed on her lungs, breathing heavy. And yet she really liked it. Unconsciously she moved closer to him.
Soldier boy’s hand moved a lock of hair behind her ear, to look at her eye, seeing it turning blue underneath the redness. Her eyes roamed over his features, this was the first time she noticed he had little freckles over his nose. How full his lips where, how... kissable? His hand lingered on her cheek almost touching her neck.
“You’ll live.” those words made her daydream burst, and brought her back to reality. “Tell me, why does Thomas keep you a secret?” Y/N frowned at that question. “You are their daughter, right?” She nodded, “well, his but not hers.” - “Aha, there we have it.” His index finger touched her nose.
Soldier boy’s eyes roamed the room again, lips curled into a smile “What do we have here.” He thought he had caught her writing her diary. Find something to make her blush. But no, the moment his hand left her face she was able to play it cool again.
“My sketchbook.” - “You draw?” - “Uhu.” She said while sitting down on her bed. “It’s good... it’s me?” Y/N’s lips curled into a smile, “Well, you kept looking at me. So yeah, I drew your eyes.” Soldier boy pouted his lips, while he went through her book. His eyes got bigger then turned the book at her.
“Spicy.” He grinned showing her one of her old sketches, a man sleeping barley covered by blankets. “What, you never saw a naked man before?” He clearly liked her boldness. “Who is he? A model at your art school?” - “Ex Boyfriend.” Now that, he did not expect.
He looked at her, his eyes became darker again. She could feel his eyes on her skin. While all he could think about was how old she was. She isn’t starstruck by him like a 16 year old would be, clearly had some experience with men, but when the men at the party offered her a drink she declined.
“What’s on your mind?” She asked while he kept staring. “How old are you?” - “How dare you ask such a thing to a lady!” She pretended to grab her pearls. Not realising that gesture made his eyes fall on her chest.
“18, 19 ?” He looked back up. “20” she answered, Y/N could have sworn she heard the wheels in his head turning. “Why?” He placed her book back where he found it. “You want the truth?”
Ben turned back to her, seeing her closing the bedroom door, placing her back to it. Her eyes filled with the same lust he had hours ago. “Please enlighten me.” she answered biting her lip.
In a few long strikes he closed the space between them. Making her stand in between him and the door, looking up at those beautiful eyes again.
His hand moved through her hair, the other hand gripped her hip tight. “I feel like we have been avoiding this tension all night long.” He kissed her soft on her right side of her neck. “But then again you are such a tease aren’t you.” another kiss on her left side of her neck.
His husky voice, his touch made her almost moan, so hard trying to avoid looking desperate. Normally she would be the one to drive a man crazy, she knew what they liked but now she needs to find her cool. Her eyes closed for a second when his lips kissed her.
She felt his tongue touch at the bottom of her neck, in between collarbone, making her head fall back, closing her eyes. Slowly licking, caressing, moving its way up to her chin. Her hands moved to the back of his head.  Feeling his locks in between her fingers, softly scratching. While his lips moved to that one spot behind her ear.
"Soldier boy” She breathed out. “Ben.” he moved his head to look in her eyes. “It’s Ben.” He waited for an answer “Y/N” she said before pulling him close to her body. Her lips hungry kissing, sucking at his.
While his hands moved over her body, trying to map out her curves, her weak spots. As the air began to fill with the sound of heavy breaths and soft moans Y/N felt his dick growing in his pants. His hand trying to move under her tight skirt.
He felt resistance of the fabric, so instead of tugging and struggling he ripped her skirt apart, from the bottom up. Leaving her gasping in his mouth. His finger found their way to her clothed slit, feeling how wet he made her.
“F-f-fuck honey, so hard to get yet so wet for me.” he dropped to his knees “If I had known, I would have fucked you hours ago.” He pulled down her panties, two fingers slide in easy, while his lips and tongue played her clit.
"Oh Ben!” those words sounded like a prayer to him. “Tell me you’re not one of those shy girls. Afraid to scream my name.” His thumb moved over sensitive but. Giving him the answer he needed. “That’s my girl.”
His mouth kept working on her clit while his fingers kept curling and pushing inside her, making Ben earning her moans.  His free hand moved over to her breast, her hand covered his, accouraging to knead it. Ben felt her hips buck, her legs started to tremble and right before he pushed her over the edge he stopped.
Y/N gave him an annoyed look. He cleaned his mouth with the back of his hand, grinning while his thumb moved over her soft red stained lips. In this moment she was glad she had taken off the lipstick she had to wear to the party.
She kissed his thumb, holding his wrist in her hands. Moving from one finger to the others, taking the two fingers he used on her. She put them one by one in her mouth, she could taste what was left of her on them, tongue moving over his fingers. Pulling them slowly out of her mouth in a sucking motion while looking at him.
“Here I thought you were a nice girl. Searching for a nice, decent young man, like that bartender, downstairs.” He said while she dropped to her knees to undo his pants. He felt her fingers and nails move over his bulge before she hooked her fingers around his underwear. Releasing his fully grown erection. “But let’s face it.” He grabbed her cheek, making her look up at him. “You want a man that fucks you till you scream his name.”
Those words made her even wetter than she thought was possible. She opened her mouth, taking as much as she could. “That’s it...” Ben moaned when her tongue moved over the vein underneath his shaft. With every bob of her head, she tried to take more of him. While Ben tried to focus on her mouth, but he heard footsteps, when they stopped outside her door, he held her head still for a second.
All though he didn’t want her mouth to stop he did pull out right before they heard a knock on the door. “Y/N?”, it was her sister. “Y/N?” she tried to open the door she had locked. “Yeah, what is it?” - “Nothing special, dad just wanted to make sure you were still here.” - “Ok, goodnight.”
Ben took the time to undress her while she dealt with her sister. Kissing every part of her that he discovered. Determine not to be interfered. He walked her back to her bed, nodding to lay down. “Legs wide open sweetheart.” The nickname gave her goosebumps.  She watched him taking off the rest of his clothes, while she waited for him.
“Ben please... hurry.” - “I love how you’re already begging for me. Do it again.” He said while she saw his hand tug lazily on his dick. His eyes roaming over her body, taking in every inch. “Ben, please... please fuck me already.”
He pulled her closer to him by her ankles. Placing himself in between her legs, Ben’s thrusts started of slow, he felt resistance from her body, clearly not used to his size. Y/N felt the sting, making her eyes water. “Relax sweetheart.”
After a few minutes the stinging pain changed into pleasure. Making her moan Ben’s name over and over in some sort of prayer. “Harder” managed to say between breaths. “Tell me what you need sweetheart.”
“H-harder Ben, ... Please fuck me harder.” He placed a hand on her neck, not fully kneading but making her open her eyes, looking right into his.  “Want me to fuck you till you can’t walk sweetheart? Is that it?”
All she could do was nod, being mesmerised by him. He turned her around without too much effort. His hands moved over her ass to her hips, pulling her up. She repositioned herself onto her hands and knees.
She felt Ben move the tip of his dick through her folds before pushing inside. No warning, no teasing. Ben’s large hands pulled on her hips, trying to get as deep as possible inside her. Hearing her hiss out loud “F-fuck”, he kneaded the flesh of her ass, before hitting it with the palm of his hand. Earning a yelp from her.
He felt her body giving in to the pleasure, unable to focus on anything else than him and thank God she did, her orgasm triggered his own. The moans and growls that came out of them sounded primal. Ben was always cautious with his one nightstands, but this time he didn’t care if it was safe or not when he came inside her.
He dropped on the bed next to her, while they both breathed fast trying to come back to this earth. Y/N started to hear the sounds of her surrounding again. Only now realising she had only heard his words and moans, anyone could have walked pasted them without her knowing it. Imagen her relieve hearing the party hasn’t ended yet. “You should go back.” She said looking over at him.
He clearly didn’t expect her to say that, given the confused look on his face. “You are a famous supe, they will be missing you by now.” She explained herself. Ben lifted himself on his elbow. “You know, no woman ever asked me to leave.” She smiled “I’m not every woman.”
“Let me guess they beg you to stay the night and you sneak out by morning?” Not confessing she wanted him to stay. Stubborn as she is. “Something like that.” His green eyes had softened, roaming over her face again. What is he looking for she thought.
“Ok, I'll leave...” His hand moved over her stomach, between her breasts to her neck, lingering there. “If, you tell me where I can find you.” Y/N thought about his words for a second, did he just really asked her to see her again?
“4 more weeks in the boarding school a town over, then I’ll be traveling the world.” His thumb moved over her bottom lip. His eyes looking how he caresses them. “So, I have 4 weeks.”  - “To what?”
He smirked, “You’ll see.” He said while he lifted himself out of bed, putting on his clothes. With his hand on the door, he looked back at her, still laying down in the bed. Her body partly covered with the white blanket, one leg out, showing and her hair a wild mess.
Ben’s lip twitched at the sight of her, instead of looking over the moon she looks him dead in the eyes. He knew from the start she wasn’t what he was used to, but damn, she drives him insane. She had triggered his interest early this night, but little did he know he would be obsessed with her at the end of it.
 --
The next week Y/N stood in her uniform at the gates of the school when the principal Mrs. Pierce called out to her. “Miss Y/L/N, please follow me to my office.” Her friends looked at her while she shrugged her shoulders. Usually she had a pretty good idea of what she walks into.
When they walked into the office, she noticed a man standing in the corner of it. “Ah miss Y/N take a seat.” She looked at the principal. “Am I in trouble?” - “Not this time.” - “You have... met my boss this weekend at one of your father’s soirees.” The man said clearly trying to choose his words wisely.
“Y-Your boss? Excuse me sir, but I have talked to a lot of people that night. Can you be more specific?” The man looked over to Mrs. Pierce and back to Y/N. “Soldier boy.” He added. Y/N’s face couldn’t hold back her surprise. Feeling Mrs. Pierce looking at her.
“I, I-I have met him yes.” - “He would like to see you again.” Y/N noticed the dirty look the man gave her, looking her up and down, noticing the bruise she tried to cover. He clearly knew how they ‘met’, probably thinking her being a teenage slut, trying to find a way of getting famous.
Y/N got up, “Tell mister Soldier boy if he wants to see me, he can find me here. I’m not the type of woman who runs to a man on his command. Have a nice day sir.” She turned to Mrs. Pierce who was clearly content with the “progress” she thought Y/N made. “Ma'am if you don’t mind, I would like to continue class.”  - “Very well.” she nodded.
On her way to class Y/N kept thinking about the conversation but mostly about the night with Ben. Wondering why he wanted to see her again, he probably can have any woman he wants. “Y/N!” Her principal walked up to her. “Your... encounter with Mr. Soldier boy didn’t incur the injury, did it?”
Y/N looked at her hand, “Oh no, he didn’t, this was an accident ma’am.” - “Ok, well, if there is anything that need to be said, even in a confidential matter, you know where my office is.” Wow, Mrs Pierce was really worried about her.
The next weeks went by smoothly, her friends tried to find out why she was called to the office, but she gave a vague answer. By the last week of school Soldier Boy was already a nice memory of a party she wanted to forget. She needed to keep focussing on the future and the last week of boarding school.
Y/N was the only one whose parents didn’t attend the graduation. But that wouldn't stop her from being happy today. She could finally spread her wings and leave this place behind her. When she heard her name, she walked up front to collect her degree. Noticing one man standing, she didn’t have to take a long look to recognise that grin.
Her heart started to beat fast, her neck covered in goosebumps, how is it possible that a man can give her this kind of feelings. She kept looking behind her when she took her seat. “What’s wrong?” One of her friends asked. “Nothing.” She said way to quick. Her friend looked behind them not seeing why Y/N was so nervous.
After the ceremony there was a drink, organised for the senior students, parents and their family.  The twin sisters, Y/N got friends with over the years, invited her to meet their parent. “Where are your mom and dad, dear?” Their mother asked. “I afraid they couldn’t make it.” She smiled her well-practised smile.
“There she is!”
Y/N recognised the deep warm voice immediately. Before she could turn around, she felt his hand on her lower back. “Congrats sweetheart.” He whispered in her ear, just loud enough for the people around you to hear. Then planted a small peck on her cheek.
Play it cool Y/N, play it cool, Be cool... She looked over her shoulder, “I thought I spotted you in the crowd.” - “Wouldn’t want to miss your big day, honey.” his hand moved over her cheek “I see that ugly bruise healed well.” Y/N felt her cheeks glow when she saw the twins and her parents look flabbergasted.
“Right, meet my, eh f-friend...” Y/N’s voice cracked “Soldier boy, nice to meet you sir, ma’am.” He filled in, shaking their hand. “And these are your friends I presume.” He asked Y/N while flashing them a heart stopping smile.
After a little friendly conversation, with questions that Ben probably heard a thousand times before, he turned to Y/N. “You want another drink, sweetheart?” pinching her hip. “No, but a word, in private, would be great.” She flashed him fake smile.
Ben followed her inside the school. “What are you doing here Ben?” - “I told you I’d find you didn’t I.” - “Took you long enough.” She crossed her arms. “To be honest. I didn’t like your response to my man.” She huffed. “I usually don’t go running around to the girls I sleep with.” He said. “Well, that’s tough, I had you in my bed didn’t I, not your man.”
“So stone cold. I don’t like my woman like that.” - “Good thing I’m not yours then.” He grabbed the back of her head, his thumb on her cheekbone, walking her towards the wall, making her stand in between his body and the wall behind her. “Listen sweetheart, I’m having a lot of patience with you. Reject me and I won’t come back this time.”
Ben saw her eyes change, he’d expect her to be angry maybe even a little scared of the way he handled her, but no, her eyes softened, he noticed how her body leaned towards him. “You think you’re having patience... Clearly, you’re not that into me than.”
Y/N tried to walk away, Ben held her back, all though everything about his posture said anger, his eyes screamed helplessness. “Don’t.” - “Tell me why not Ben, give me one, good, reason.” His mouth opened just to close again. “We used each other for pleasure. Nothing more.”
In reaction Ben grabbed her tight and pushed her back to the wall, his lips consumed hers. His hands moved over to her ribs, pulling his body against hers. He felt her resist but by the time his tongue asked permission he felt her body melting into his.
Their breath deepened within seconds, Ben pulled back keeping only a small space between their faces. “Tell me Y/N, honestly, is this just pleasure?” - “Shut up.” She sighs while pulling his body close to hers, closing the space between their lips.
Until they were disturbed by the sound of a clearing throat, “Miss Y/L/N, your father is here. He would like to see you.” - “I’ll be right there Mrs. Pierce.” She felt the heat on her cheeks rise. “So cute when you blush.” Ben teased letting his lips touch her neck one last time before he lets go of her.
“I had no idea he would be here today.” She said while they walked through the crowd, seeing him talking to the twins’ parents. Ben walked beside her keeping his hand on her back. “Father, how nice of you to come.”
“Of course.” he pulled her in an awkward hug. “Ben.” - “Thomas.” Both men greeted each other like real alfas.  “I had no idea you would come.” Y/N said to lift the tension. “Well, I’m glad I did.” He looked Ben up and down.
After a really weird and awkward situation where both Ben and Thomas kept giving each other dirty looks and the other parents trying to have a normal conversation, Thomas spoke.
“Right, Y/N I think it’s time to go home.” - “I’m sorry but I’m not going.” - “What do you mean?” Y/N took a deep breath “I’m not coming home anymore. It’s time for me to move on, see the world. But I might start with New York first.” She said looking at Ben. His brow lifted.
Her dad nodded, clearly not liking her answer, but what was he supposed to do against Ben, who after all this time still hasn’t lifted his hand of her back.
--
Ben and Y/N few over to New York, he didn’t want her to stay with him at Vought. They really didn’t like the fact that their most eligible bachelor supe had fallen for a young woman. Keeping her in a penthouse would be more enjoyable for her.
Y/N wouldn’t be Y/N if she didn’t rebel a little. Ben had told her he wasn’t going to make it to her tonight, so she found a way to make it up to his room. Turned out ‘his man’ she met at school weeks earlier was his security guy. Who let her in his room.
A little ironic a superhero had a security guy, she thought when she found out.
Ben walked in, angry about his day, undid his protection gear and shirt. He sat down on the edge of the bed, picked up the phone on the nightstand, trying to call Y/N. “I don’t think she is going to answer.” Y/N said crawling into bed behind him.
Her hands moved to his shoulders, giving him a little massage while her lips whispered in his ear. “I thought you could use some company.” Ben looked over his shoulder, seeing Y/N wearing the lingerie he bought a few days ago.
“Hmm, that colour really suits you sweetheart.” his hand grabbed behind him, kneading in her thigh. “You know when I asked for clothes, I expected a little more... coverage.” she laughed. “Why?” Ben’s voice deepened.
“So you have to take them off again.” She whispered, biting his ear.
He stood up and turned around, towering over her, seeing how she sat on her knees in bed, looking at him with her doe eyes. “I missed you baby.” His lips curled by the sound of her needy voice.
He pushed her down and crawls on top of her. She lifted her leg around his hip, his large hand moved over her, from knee to hip to her breast. Mesmerised by her, he locked eyes again.
“Woman... you’re going to be the end of me.”

Our Present
Part two to Our Future
Tumblr media
Richie walked back into the party, confused about what had happened. He attempted to push it into the back of his head as he watched Eva and her friends run around the backyard trading friendship bracelets. He smiled to himself as he got his phone out of his pocket to take a picture to send you.
After singing Happy Birthday, eating ice cream cake, and opening presents, Richie was finally alone with Tiff. “Oh hey- I thought you left.” she laughed as she picked up empty paper cups to throw in the trash. “Yeah… what did you say to Y/N? She kinda just left… said something about talkin’ to you.” Richie asked, watching Tiffany lose the color in her cheeks. “Richie, I didn’t say anything. I swear.” Richie shook his head, “Nonono, Tiff, you said somethin’... I wanna know what you said.” she sighed and put the trashcan she’d been carrying through the living room down, “Okay- I guess I did say somethin’...” She leaned against the wall, avoiding eye contact with him. “What did you say?!” Richie demanded, trying his best not to yell, “Calm down.” Tiffany warned, crossing her arms over her chest. Richie paused, “Okay, I’m sorry, but what did you say to her?”
 “I think I gave her perspective?” Tiffany swallowed, “On what?” Richie’s face scrunched in frustration. Tiffany pushed her hands through her hair, “Okay, Richie, we’d been together for two years when she was born-” “Tiffany. What did you say.” Richie crossed her arms over his chest and stared down at Tiffany. She entered the kitchen, “I asked if she wanted to travel or get married or have a kid someday…” “I need to get out of here before I lose it.”
“Daddy?” Eva asked from the top of the stairs as Richie huffed toward the door, “Hey, sweetheart.” he faked a smile, “Are you mad at Mommy?” he shook his head. “Don’t worry that pretty lil head about it. I had fun at your party- did you have fun?” Eva nodded, and Richie’s face softened. “That’s good… Happy Birthday, princess. I love you, okay?” Eva nodded. “I love you too, Daddy.”
As Richie pulled into his parking spot, he noticed your missing car. Richie felt his heart rate increase as breathing became harder. He haphazardly parked and ran up the stairs. He struggled to get his key in the lock but opened the door, “Baby! You here?!” Richie yelled as soon as he’d entered the apartment. When he got no response, he walked toward your shared bedroom. He noticed your missing shoes from the cubby by the door. He shook his head, refusing to believe you’d leave him without saying anything. “Yo. Baby?” he opened the bedroom door to see the bed made and more of your possessions missing. “No. No. She wouldn’t…” he fished his phone out of his pocket and hit your contact. It immediately went to voice mail. He hung up and dialed again as he paced through your bedroom, looking into the closet to see that some of your clothes were missing. “Baby. Answer the fuckin’ phone.” Richie sighed into his phone when your voicemail came through his speaker.
Richie walked back into the main part of the apartment and saw a note on the counter. “Sorry to leave you like this, but we want different things. My Dad said he’d come by to pick up the rest of my stuff later in the week. -Y/N” Richie stared at the paper with disbelief. He shook his head, crumpling the paper as he exited the apartment, slamming the door on his way out. You weren’t leaving him like this.
Richie knew your parents weren’t his biggest fans, but you had to be there. Your car wasn’t parked outside their building, but you had to be there. Richie couldn’t let you leave him like this. Maybe he should have followed you when you’d left the party? He knocked on your parent’s apartment door to reveal your mom, “Richie. What are you doin’ here?” she questioned, surprised at his presence. “Hey, Mrs. Y/L/N, have you heard from Y/N?” “She left your ass, Richard.” your Dad laughed. Richie scoffed, “Have you heard from her?” Richie asked again; your mom nodded. “She said something about self-discovery? I’m not sure; she was a mess.” Richie nodded. “Thank you… can you call me if you hear from her?” she nodded. “I will, Richie.”
Anger, hurt, confusion… Richie was ripping his hair out at what had happened between the two of you. He thought the two of you were on the same page about marriage and kids. He was sitting at the bar working on the front-of-house schedule when Lily, a friend from your serving days, approached the bar. “Hey, Richieeee…” she grimaced. “No.” Richie answered without looking up, “Richie, I asked Milo and-” “I don’t care. Answers no.” Lily sighed, “Fine. I guess I’ll just tell Y/N-” “Lily. Walk away before I fire you.” he huffed before walking back to the kitchen and into the back alley.
Before turning the corner to go to his usual smoking spot, he heard some busboys talking about you, “Should I try to shoot my shot again? Y/N’s so fuckin’ hot now.” “Dude, she rejected you last time you tried.” “Yeah, but now she’s on the rebound- bleached her hair, postin’ sad shit on Instagram… I think I have a shot.” “You fuckin’ wish. She’s like a relationship girl, not a rebound girl.” Richie clenched his fist before quickly turning around to go back inside. He needed answers.
A few weeks had passed since the breakup, and on a rare day off, your Dad showed up at Richie’s apartment to pick up the rest of your belongings. While he didn’t like Richie, he could also see that his daughter was a bit harsh in how she’d ended the relationship. The two men awkwardly stood in the living room, “You want a beer or somethin’?” Richie asked, “No. I don’t like you, Richie, but it was cold of Y/N to break up with you the way she had.” Richie chuckled. “Yeah… where is she? She blocked me, but I gotta talk to her.” “You didn’t hear it from me, but she’s at her friend Connie’s place.”
You slipped your headphones off when you heard yelling coming from outside your bedroom door. “She’s not fuckin’ here!” Connie yelled as you got closer to the door. “That fuckin’ bullshit- her car is outside!” Richie’s voice boomed. You swallowed before leaving the bedroom, “Connie, it’s okay- come on. Let’s get this over with.” you said, beckoning to Richie. He stood there in awe for a moment before sheepishly nodding.
The two of you stood awkwardly before Richie finally piped up, “Y/N, you can’t just fuckin’ leave me like that.” you sighed. You knew it wasn’t the right way to end the relationship, but the thought of this. conversation triggered many memories from the past, and you couldn’t face Richie. “Richie-” “No. No. This is all bullshit. Just come home, baby.” he pleaded. You shook your head, “Why not?! Do you not love me anymore?” he asked, trying to fight back the urge to throw you over his shoulder and just take you home. “I love you, but I want to get married and maybe have a kid or two-” “Okay. Let’s get fuckin’ married then,” he interjected. You sighed, “Richie, I want you to want to marry me because you want to-.” “You said it was just a piece of paper. What fuckin’ changed?” he was struggling to contain his feelings at that point. “Just- Richie, please just go home.” you pleaded as tears started to form in your eyes, “I love you, Y/N. You wana get married- I’ll marry you. You wanna have a kid- I’ll give you a fuckin’ baby. I want to be with you, Y/N. Just come home, baby.”
You stared down at the floor until you felt Richie’s hands delicately grip your hips. As he pulls you closer to his body, your hands move to his chest and gently push him away. “You should leave Richie,” you whispered, not daring to look up at him. Richie sighed and dropped his hands. You felt his thumb under your chin and allowed it to push your chin up and finally meet his eyes. “I’m not givin’ up on this. Just think about it. Okay?”
Weeks passed, and you couldn’t shake your feelings for Richie. You tried to write it off as your first real relationship. Of course, it would take a while to get over. However, it seemed like everything had just reminded you of him. You tried to focus on your work; you tried to distract yourself with stupid reality TV. You were going to the gym every night. Lily tried to convince you to download Tinder to get your mind off of Richie, and Connie was team ‘get back together with Richie because you’re pathetically in love with him and should’ve never broken up in the first place’; you were stuck between a rock and a hard place. While you couldn’t get the man out of your head, could you really just be happy being his girlfriend forever? You stared up at the ceiling when your phone started vibrating next to you. You sighed and rolled over to see the caller ID was Carmy, “Hello?” you quickly answered, wondering why he’d be calling you at almost midnight. “Come home already.” Richie’s voice came through the speaker, “You took Carmy’s phone to call me?” “The jagoff’s passcode is 1111. He was askin’ for it.” “Dumbass is gonna get his phone stolen.” “He left it in the office- practically askin’ for it, ya know?” “Yea… I miss you.” “Then come home.” “I don’t-” “Y/N, just come home. I need you- I’ve been think’ a lot. I wasn’t the best husband to Tiff, and I guess I'm just scared I won’t be a good one to you either- GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE CARMY I SWEAR TO FUCKIN’ GOD!” “Can’t really yell at Carmy to get out of the office when you snagged his phone, Richie… but, um, I get what you’re saying.” “Yea?” “Yeah.” “Come home?” “Okay.”

It started with a shopping trip in Houston for Sarah’s wedding.
She needed a dress for the rehearsal and her bachelorette party and the malls in Austin just weren’t cutting it.
“I’m telling you,” she said after coming up empty handed on another Saturday spent shopping as the two of you ate salads and drank sweet tea at a patio cafe. “We need to go to Houston. We haven’t found anything for you, either.”
“I can just…” you began, but Sarah cut you off.
“Mom,” she raised her brows. “You do not get to say ‘just’ anything about my wedding, come on.”
You rolled your eyes a little but smiled.
“Alright,” you put your hands up in surrender. “I’ve got the weekend off again in two weeks, I’ll get us a hotel room in Houston and we can shop til we drop.”
“I’m going to get you comfortable with spending some of those big surgeon bucks one of these days,” she said. “You need to treat yourself! Live a little!”
“I live plenty, thank you,” you replied. “And I do it just fine in my Goodwill jeans.”
“Whatever you say,” she smirked a little, flagging down the server and grabbing the bill before you had a chance to fight her on it.
Sarah might have had a point. You’d been an attending for the better part of a year now and the jump in pay had been staggering. You were making more now in a year than you had your entire life - or it felt that way, anyway. You’d already made good progress paying off your student loans but you made quick work of the rest. Joel had asked if you wanted to move - something bigger or better somehow - now that you could easily afford it but you’d just frowned at him, almost hurt.
“This is our home,” you said. “I fell in love with you here, Sarah grew up here, we made Evie here. This is the first place I ever really felt like I belonged, I don’t want to leave.”
Joel just smiled and kissed your forehead.
“Then we’ll stay,” he said. “Moving’s a fuckin’ hassle anyway.”
You’d just been saving money, not really sure what to do with it. You donated some of it, stopped spending time clipping coupons, finally bought a car that was from this decade (but still used). But actually spending it made you anxious. You’d never had money before. You weren’t poor, exactly. You’d always had enough to eat and a roof over your head but you almost never bought new clothes, had never really traveled outside of places that you could easily get to by car. You were pretty sure you’d never even been in a car that wasn’t at least 10 years old before you came to college and your friend Cassie gave you a ride to the store in her new BMW. It was hard to get used to the idea that money could be spent at all, that it wasn’t already earmarked for some bill or, if there was any left, that it had to be saved for a rainy day.
“You gotta actually spend some of that hard earned money on yourself, Baby,” Joel said as you headed outside to meet Sarah for your weekend in Houston. “Buy some ridiculously expensive dress that I’m gonna want to rip off you in seconds or some purse that’s $1,000 for reasons I don’t understand.”
“That’s two mortgage payments,” you said, eyes wide.
“Baby.”
“Right, right,” you nodded. “On a mission, spend money. Got it.”
“On yourself,” he added. “Not Sarah. Or not just Sarah, anyway. You two have fun.”
“You too,” you said, stretching up to kiss him goodbye. “Don’t let Evie con you into giving her candy when she gets home from school.”
“What wild thing and I get up to when you’re not around is none of your business,” he gave you one last peck on the lips. “Now go, stop worryin’, live a little.”
The mall in Houston was almost overwhelming. Not in the crowds way malls sometimes were for you, thank goodness, but with the kinds of stores. There were names you recognized from Cassie’s closet and from some of the trust fund girls in your med school program but you realized quickly you had no concept of what things like this actually cost.
Sarah picked a dress for the rehearsal that was nearly $600 and you choked on the champagne the sales person had given you to sip while Sarah tried on options.
“You really buy $600 dresses?” You gaped at her as you wandered back into the store from the dressing rooms.
“Not all the time,” she shrugged. “But we make good money and sometimes it’s fun to buy something nice.”
She held up a floor length gown to you, the bottom pooling on the ground.
“That’s too long,” you said.
“Well we’d get it tailored,” she laughed a little. “Come on, try it on.”
Another sales person wandered over and offered to set up a fitting room and you snuck a peek at the price tag. Your eyes went wide.
“That dress is $1200!” You whispered at Sarah as you trailed after the attendant.
“And it’s for my wedding,” she replied. “And don’t you have that gala thing every spring for work? You can wear it for that, you need a new dress for that anyway. Plus I’m the bride and I say you have to try it on. You can’t disappoint the bride.”
You sighed and went into the fitting room, feeling utterly out of place in your second hand Levis and vintage top you’d picked up on a shopping trip a few weeks back that felt much more your speed.
But the dress - outside of the length - looked like it had been made for you. The silk hugged your every curve, the neckline dipping just low enough to display just enough cleavage to be sexy but not so much that it would be scandalous. It was simple, no embellishments beyond the structure of the dress and the deep emerald green of the fabric. Normally you’d have scoffed at something so basic fetching such a high price but, now that it was on your body, you understood it. It was like you’d put on a work of art and, in doing so, become art yourself.
“OK you can’t laugh,” you said. “But I’m coming out.”
Sarah was waiting patiently in the little show room attached to your fitting room and you had to hold up the hem of the dress to not trip but she gasped all the same.
“Oh Mom,” her hand went to her mouth, her eyes wide. “You look incredible.”
“Yeah?” You asked, turning in the mirrors to look at yourself from every angle. “I don’t look like I’m playing dress up?”
“Not at all,” she spoke with almost a sense of reverence, looking you up and down. “You’re getting that dress. I’ll buy it for you if you won’t…”
“No, Sarah,” you protested but she pulled out her phone and snapped a picture before you had a chance to really realize what she was doing. “What was that for?”
“I’m sending this to Dad…” her voice trailed off and she took a sip of champagne just as her phone rang. She smirked and answered, putting it on speaker phone. “Speak of the devil. Hey old man, your wife is trying to tell me this dress costs too much.”
“I don’t care if that dress costs $200,000 she’s bringing it home,” Joel said. “She hear me?”
“Yes,” Sarah smiled, a shit eating grin if there ever was one.
“Good,” he said. “Baby, you look so damn amazing I’m about to jump in the truck and drive over there just to see you in that thing in person sooner. Save me a trip, bring it home, alright?”
“Alright,” you sighed.
“Didn’t quite hear that,” Joel said.
“I said alright you dork,” you said a little, grinning in spite of yourself.
“That’s my girl.”
You bought the dress. And a bag that Sarah insisted you needed for work because she was tired of seeing you haul around a canvas tote. And shoes for the dress.
When you passed the jeweler window, you were on the way to the car after spending so much money you were surprised you hadn’t fainted. You stopped, the hanger with the garment bag for the dress hooked in your fingers over your shoulder, and looked at the watch sitting in the window.
It was large and silver but not too ornate, no diamonds or anything like that. The face of the watch was black with elegant white roman numerals on the face.
“What?” Sarah asked, stopping next to you.
“Do you think your dad would like that?” You asked, head cocked a little, still looking at the timepiece through the glass.
“Yeah,” Sarah said after a moment. “Seems like a him watch, if he were going to wear a nice watch, anyway.”
Joel did already have a watch. A simple one with a green strap and silver colored case and a black face. You and Sarah had picked it out together for his birthday one year. She’d been giddy about it, you had to all but beg her to keep it a secret for a few days until it came time to give it to him. He loved the thing, wore it every day, even more than a decade later.
But your career wasn’t the only one that had advanced. Joel was no longer doing the manual labor of a contractor every day. More often than not, he was going to meet with clients and arrange contracts and make plans. For a lot of those meetings, he wore a suit and, for a lot of those meetings, you saw him stick his watch in his pocket before leaving the house instead of putting it on.
“Hard sometimes,” he said when you’d asked him about it. “Fittin’ in with these clients.”
“Let me just…” you doubled back to the entrance to the store and went inside.
The watch was more than you thought it would be. A lot more. So, so much more. You watched as the sale’s person’s eyes went from encouraging and hopeful to let down when you reacted to the price.
“One second,” you smiled sheepishly and pulled out your phone, going into your banking app. Even after spending an arm and a leg on yourself that day, the number in your personal checking account seemed obscenely high. More money than you’d ever had at once until very, very recently. You could afford the watch. You looked at the sales person and smiled.
“I’ll take it.”
You had several very strong cocktails when out to dinner with Sarah that night to make yourself feel a little better about spending thousands of dollars on things like clothes and a watch and she just smiled.
“See, Mom? You spent some money on yourself and the apocalypse did not happen, I think you can actually buy yourself things from time to time.”
“And things for your dad,” you said. “Because he needs nice things, too.”
When you got home, Joel insisted that you model the dress for him.
“It needs to be tailored,” you tried to protest.
“Not for me to take it off you it doesn’t,” he smiled from his spot on the couch, beer in hand.
“Fine,” you said. “But only if you let me model everything I bought and you can’t return any of it.”
“Deal.”
You went to your bedroom and put on the dress and the shoes and took the watch out of the bag, the face almost comically large on your wrist, before going back to the living room, hem of the dress in hand.
“Jesus Christ Baby,” he looked at you, his eyes wide. “You look… fuck me.”
“That is the idea,” you winked. “You like it?”
“Like is a fuckin’ understatement,” he said, getting up and walking around you slowly, his eyes going up and down your body. “You know, Evie’s at a friend’s for two more hours…”
“So you’re not going to make me return anything I have on?” You asked.
“Fuck no.”
“Not this dress?” You started unzipping the side before sliding the straps down your arms.
“Dress stays,” he said, gently tugging it down and exposing your chest, kissing the swell of your breasts.
“What about the shoes?” You asked, putting a sandaled foot out from below the hem. He glanced down, eyes ranging over the straps.
“Those stay, too,” he said, going back to kissing your chest. “Everything you’ve got on stays, already agreed to that.”
“Good,” you said as he made it to your neck. “Even this?”
You held up your wrist, the watch sliding down your arm.
He frowned, looking at it.
“Don’t look like you’re style,” he said. “But if it makes you happy, Baby, keep it.”
“Never said it was for me, Joel,” you smiled a little. You watched him piece it together, taking a moment for him to dawn on him.
“No,” he shook his head, looking from your arm to your face. “No, you were supposed to get stuff for yourself for a change not…”
“I did get stuff for me,” you said. “And I got this for you. Because you’re wearing suits more now and I wanted you to have the watch for that. So really, it is for me.”
He took your wrist gently in one hand, elbow in the other, tilting your arm this way and that to look at the watch in different lights.
“Baby, this…” he shook his head again. “This is too much, this is…”
“Not for you,” you cut him off. “Not after everything you’ve given me. This is not enough. But it’s a start. Besides, you said I got to keep everything I was wearing. You already agreed to it, Miller.”
“Baby,” he sighed.
“Joel,” you smiled a little. “You’re my husband. Let me give you something nice. Please.”
He brought the inside of your wrist to his lips and kissed you there, making your pulse flutter against his mouth.
“Already gave me the best thing there is,” he said. “Anything more feels like I’m stealin’ it.”
“Steal whatever you want, Miller,” you teased. “But you’re keeping the watch.”
Joel ended up wearing the watch often. Not as much as the Sarah watch - and he stuck with the Sarah watch for her wedding - but at least once a week for meetings where he needed to dress up for. Every time you gave him a little knowing smile and every time he rolled his eyes a little before kissing you goodbye. But you had yet to get him to accept anything like it in the years since, Joel trying to dodge everything every time you spent money on him.
So when his birthday was around the corner, you were bound and determined to get him something good.
“Anything you want for your birthday?” You asked as you, Joel and Ellie wandered around a street fair, meandering towards the car show. “Anything you want to do?”
“S’not like it’s a big one,” he shrugged. “Just 56. Would love to see all my girls, of course. Could use some new tongs for the grill.”
“Tongs?” Ellie said, brows raised. “Seriously? Old people are so WEIRD.”
“You know what kiddo?” Joel smiled a little, faking exasperation. “We’ll see how you’re doin’ when you’re pushin’ 60.”
“Ew,” she crinkled her nose and wandered to the first car in the row of vehicles on display. You laughed, strolling along with Joel until he stopped at a beautiful old convertible, giving a low whistle.
“What?” You asked.
“Just a pretty fuckin’ car,” he said, his hands in his pockets as he walked slowly around it. “Always wanted one of these when I was a kid.”
“Yeah?” You asked, getting an idea.
“Neighbor had one,” he nodded. “Let me ride in the back once. Coolest fuckin’ car.”
He looked over every inch of the thing and Ellie caught up with you while he did, pouting a little as she leaned on the door of the car, her chin propped on her folded arms.
“I’m starving,” she groaned. “Can I go get some fries at least?”
“Sure,” you laughed a little, pulling some cash out of your pocket. “Grab me a lemonade, too?”
You watched as she went to the food stands and you and Joel moved on, walking slowly down the row of cars when Ellie caught up with you again, passing you the lemonade. Joel stole a fry from her cup.
“Hey!” She protested. “Go get your own!”
“Might have to,” he said, giving her a wink. “Back in a sec.”
You waited until he was out of earshot before you grabbed Ellie.
“Do me a favor,” you said. “That car we were looking at? The blue one? Can you go talk to the owner and find out what make, model and year it is?”
“I guess,” she frowned. “Why?”
“Because,” you said. “I found something your dad wants besides tongs.”
You went and stood in line with Joel, keeping him distracted while Ellie did recon. She took some pictures of the car and texted you all the information which you texted to Andrew as Joel drove home from the fair.
“Can you help me find this car?” You asked him. “One that’s for sale?”
“Becoming a collector?” He texted back.
“Joel’s birthday,” you added a smilie face emoji.
“Excellent,” he replied. “I’ll find you something, don’t worry.”
It took a few weeks but Andrew found the car. A blue 1967 Mustang Convertible that was being sold down in San Antonio. He went down with you to help you test drive it - you didn’t know a damn thing about cars - and you bought it on the spot.
“He’s going to freak the fuck out,” Andrew said, driving it home since you couldn’t drive stick. “Seriously, you might give the man a heart attack…”
You rolled your eyes but laughed all the same.
“I really hope he loves it,” you said, running your fingers over the dash.
“I’ll take it off your hands if he doesn’t,” Andrew smiled. “Just don’t tell Jess.”
Tommy agreed to store the car in his garage until Joel’s party at his house in two weeks and you were giddy as you drove home, feeling like a kid at Christmas as you tried to keep the car a secret.
By the time the party rolled around, even Ellie was excited and having a hard time holding it together.
“It’s really just a cookout at Tommy’s,” Joel said as the three of you piled in the car to head over. “Not sure why you two are actin’ like we’re going to fuckin’ Six Flags…”
“Tommy’s cooler than you,” Ellie said. “Nice to spend time with someone who isn’t a total dinosaur…”
“Alright, in the car kiddo,” Joel smiled and shook his head a little. “Can’t take you anywhere ’til seatbelts are on, let’s go!”
You texted Tommy that you were on the way and he responded with a picture of the car, shiny in his driveway with a big, red bow on the hood.
“He’s going to lose his mind, Kid,” he texted back. “Please tell Maria I want this same treatment when I’m old.”
“Better put in some work to deserve it, Miller,” you replied, smiling a little.
Joel parked on the street, frowning at the car in Tommy’s driveway.
“When the hell’d Tommy get a Mustang?” He got out, his frown deepening. You almost laughed.
“He didn’t,” you smiled, so big it was like your face was going to crack.
Joel looked confused for half a moment before his mouth dropped open in shock.
“No,” he shook his head. Ellie leaned between the front seats, grinning hugely, “No, no that’s… Baby. No.”
“Suck it up, old man,” Ellie smirked as Sarah and Brandon came out of the house, little Carson making a beeline for the car. Sarah and Brandon waved as Tommy and Maria joined them in the yard. Ellie pulled the keys out of her pocket and dangled them between you and Joel. He took them, staring at them in his hand for a second.
“Should take it before I do,” Tommy hollered and you laughed as you got out of the car and followed an almost dazed Joel toward the Mustang.
He walked, in awe, around the car twice.
“I…” he said but stopped, staring at the convertible for a moment. “I don’t….”
“Do you like it?” You asked, coming up beside him and wrapping your arms around his waist.
“Fuckin’ love it,” he said, immediately looking at you. “But Baby, this is too much, way too much, I can’t…”
“Yes you can,” you smiled up at him. He looked down at you, the awed expression still on his face. “After everything you’ve done for me? For us? Everything you’ve sacrificed, all the ways you take care of me and our girls? The life you gave me? Still not enough, Joel. Not for you.”
He pulled you tight to him and kissed the top of your head.
“I love you,” he said, his voice wet. “So goddamn much, Baby.”
Tommy set up chairs and a table in the front yard so everyone could sit near the car while celebrating Joel. He kept looking over at it in disbelief before looking at you with eyes filled with gratitude and wonder. You couldn’t remember the last time your heart felt quite so full.
You drove Ellie home, following slowly behind Joel in the new convertible.
“OK I know what this shit means,” Ellie said, gesturing between you and Joel after you got home, your husband clutching you to his side. “Try to keep it down and not be gross about it because ugh.”
“Was actually going to see if you wanted to take the car for a spin,” you smiled up at Joel. “Just you and me. Assuming Ellie will behave herself and actually go to bed at a reasonable time.”
“Anything to get away from whatever that is,” Ellie said, smiling a little as she went to her room. You laughed.
“So,” you said, once she closed the door to her room. You looked up at Joel, smiling. “Care to take me for a ride, Mr. Miller?”
He grinned.
“Whatever you say, Mrs. Miller.”
He took you through town slowly, down quiet side streets filled with sleeping people and past businesses that had closed for the night, until the two of you ended up at a large park on the edge of town where things were a little darker and you could see some of the stars.
“I can’t believe you got me a car, Baby,” he said, his hands running over the steering wheel. His smile was so big you could see it even in the dim light of the moon. “It’s really…”
“If you say it’s too much again, Joel, I will go and buy you a second one on principle.”
He laughed at that.
“I was gonna say it was the best gift I’ve ever gotten,” he said, turning to look at you. “Besides you and the girls of course.”
“Oh, of course,” you smiled.
He leaned in and kissed you gently.
“Not sure what I did to deserve you,” he said. “But I sure am grateful for it.”
Your kiss shifted and you started climbing over the center console, Joel taking a second to move his seat all the way back. You bunched your skirt around your hips and settled over him, kissing him harder, more eager.
“I’m pretty damn grateful for you,” you whispered against his mouth, his hands going to your hips. You ground down on him and he moaned, pressing his hard length up against you through his jeans. “And I think the birthday boy should get laid in his dream car.”
“Dream car,” he said, kissing you. “Dream woman.” He kissed you again. “Perfect fuckin’ birthday.”
You unzipped his fly as you kissed him and tucked your panties to the side, notching his cock against your entrance. He moaned as you sank slowly down onto him, taking all of him inside of you, savoring how he filled you.
You started slowly, just grinding him deeper into you as you kissed him, his tongue licking into your mouth.
“You feel fuckin’ amazing Baby,” he moaned, kissing down your throat until he reached your breasts, cleavage bared in your v-neck top. “Always feel so damn good…”
He was thrusting up into you, trying to set his own pace, and you decided to allow that, matching him stroke for stroke as he groaned below you. His hands ranged up your back, pawing at your shirt until be was able to raise it enough to slide below it and get at your skin with a satisfied moan. He clutched you close, so close that you could hardly move over him anymore. Instead, he fucked up into you, making you whimper and your channel tighten around him.
“C’mon Baby,” he grunted, voice strained. “Want you to come for me. All I want now is you to come for me, come all over me, fuck Baby…”
You bit down on his shoulder to keep quiet, the sounds of crickets and cicadas on the air as you came, your sex throbbed around him. You whimpered against him as you came down from your high and he kept working you, his grip on you tightening.
“Fuck Baby,” he gasped. “Feel too good, I’m gonna… fuck… I’m…”
He cut himself off with a groan, thrusting deep and filling you, his grip on you relaxing enough that you could sit up a little. You looked at him in the moonlight his eyes closed, a blissed out look on his face. You smiled a little, brushing his more unruly curls back from his forehead.
“I love you so much, Baby,” he smiled a little, eyes still closed.
“So I did alright for your birthday?” You teased lightly, his softening cock still buried inside you.
He laughed.
“Did perfect,” he tugged you close enough that he could kiss you again, careful to not push you back against the horn. “Perfect fuckin’ birthday, perfect fuckin’ woman, perfect fuckin’ wife.”
“Good,” you smiled, kissing him. “You deserve it, Joel. You deserve the world.”

summary: you and andrei welcome your first baby
“I don’t know,” Andrei’s hand is splayed flat over your stomach while he lies in bed next to you, “maybe I should talk to Rod. See if I can stay home until the baby’s here.” The baby rolls and kicks at his hand and Andrei’s lips turn up into a soft smile. His eyes are still a little cloudy and conflicted though.
You stretch out your legs, trying to ease the pain in your hip from having to lay on your side. “You’re only going to Nashville. It’s not far and I’m due in a week and a half. Plenty of time for you to get there and back without having to let your boys down.”
Andrei starts to protest, but you shake your head. “I know you don’t want to miss any games so close to the playoffs, Drei. And I also know that you’re not going to miss baby being born. We can do it all.”
He rubs at your stomach again, looking deep in thought. “Nashville is two days. To get there, to play, and to come back - more like three. What if you go into labor during the game?”
“Then,” you yawn, “I’ll have someone pull you off the ice and you can come straight to the hospital. Labor takes hours. Honestly, Drei, you’re not going to miss it.”
You know he wants to be there for you and for the team, especially coming down the home stretch of the regular season when the Canes are holding onto first in the Metro. You love that he’s so dedicated to his team and honestly, the thought of him sitting around and staring at you, waiting for you to pop, isn’t that relaxing. He’s attentive, but sometimes you need a bit of space.
Andrei rolls onto his back and stares up at the ceiling. He huffs a sigh before rolling back onto his side to look at you. “You’re sure?”
“I’m sure,” you reassure him. “Plus all four of our parents are going to be here in a couple of days. There’s no shortage of people who can get me to a hospital and call you, if we need it.”
He looks a little more reassured now, remembering that his parents are flying in on Tuesday, just hours after he flies out to Nashville. Your parents are only a forty-five minute drive away, so the second labor starts, if Andrei isn’t around, you can call them. You kick the blankets off your legs, too hot and uncomfortable in the unseasonably warm early spring weather. All you want to do is lie on your stomach and stretch out, but thanks to the giant belly bump, that’s a no-go. You’ve always been aware that Andrei was big and tall, but you hadn’t really thought about it until your baby was all squished up in your stomach, your skin stretched uncomfortably. It really does feel like you’re snuggling a watermelon around, and especially now that the baby’s dropped in the last few days, you’re really feeling uncomfortable.
Andrei’s hand rubs soft circles over the peak of your stomach, tapping the spots that the baby kicks in a little game. He props his head up on his palm and traces his fingers over your skin. “I can’t believe he’ll be here in a week,” he says.
“Or she,” you counter cheekily. “But yeah, it’s feeling a little scary now.”
The nursery’s been done for about two weeks now - painted and decorated around Andrei’s travel schedule. You have your hospital bag packed and ready in the front hall closet. The freezer is stocked full of meals your mom had made and delivered last week. All that’s left now is to wait for baby to make their appearance.
You shift on the bed, your lower back sore and stiff. “Drei…” you pout, “will you rub my back?” You blink wide eyes up at him and he smiles, needing no extra begging or encouragement to help you into a sitting position.
He opens his legs and settles you in between them, warm, large hands coming to rest on your lower back. “Here, solnyshka?” He asks, thumbs already digging into the stiff muscles. You hum an affirmative response, leaning forward as much as your stomach will allow and enjoying the pleasant stretch of your back. His hands work out the knots smoothly and you melt, finally getting a little relief.
“I can’t wait to finally not have to carry around this watermelon,” you sigh, hands cradling your stomach.
Andrei’s hands work up your back to your shoulders, “I can’t wait to hold the baby all the time, to make up for the nine months you did all the work.” He kisses behind your ear and digs his thumb into a particularly painful knot by your shoulder blade.
“Oh,” you gasp, going limp as the muscle releases. You sag back against his chest, trapping Andrei’s hands in between your bodies. “That felt so good. Forget hockey, become my personal masseuse.”
“Isn’t that already my side job?” He teases, fingers fluttering against your back where they’re stuck. You shift a little and he pulls his arms out and immediately rests them on the underside of your stomach, lifting gently so some of the pressure is off your pelvis.
A strangled noise of contentment escapes your throat and you lean further back against him. “Full time, I need back massages and bump lifting full time, Drei.”
“Whatever you want, solnyshka,” he tucks your head under his chin and sits still so you can relax. He’s so warm and solid you find your eyes closing, finally in a comfortable enough position to sleep a little.
A sharp jab to your bladder - a little foot or elbow, most likely - startles you awake with a wince. You shift, Andrei’s arms still encircling your body. He’s snoring softly in your ear and you realize that he fell asleep too, holding you against his chest. His head is tilted back against the headboard and it can’t be comfortable, but he’s out like a light, even when you wiggle a little to try and get off the bed. The need to use the bathroom is urgent.
“Mmm, solnyshka?” He mumbles, waking up a bit when you gently push his arms off of you.
“Go back to sleep,” you whisper into the dark. “I just have to pee.”
Andrei hums another response, but swings his legs off the bed and steadies you with a hand on your lower back and the other on your hip. His eyes are shut the entire time and he’s snoring again by the time you’re halfway to the bathroom. His legs are still dangling off the bed and you shake your head a little. Once you finish in the bathroom, you take a minute to look in the mirror, turning to the side and smoothing your shirt over your stomach. In a week or less, this bump is going to be a baby in your arms. You can’t wait to meet it, to see which of your features or Andrei’s are stronger.
“Just wait until Daddy is home, okay, baby?” You whisper, rubbing your palm over a spot low on you stomach where the baby’s jabbed a limb. “That better be a yes, mom, whatever you say.”
Andrei’s still half hanging off the bed when you waddle - god, you’re sick of the waddling! - back into the bedroom. He’s exhausted, between the travel, the actual playing, and being there for you, no matter what you need. You wish there were a way to let him keep sleeping while putting him back on the bed properly, but there really isn’t, so you carefully crawl back onto your side of the bed and situate yourself with the giant body pillows wrapped around your body and then reach out to nudge Andrei’s shoulder.
“Hey,” you whisper, “Drei, baby, get back into bed.”
He startles, blinking into the dark, and rubs a hand over his face. “Huh?” He looks around and seems to realize that his feet are on the floor while his upper body is in bed. “Oh,” he mutters, pulling his legs back up on the bed and under the covers. He reaches for you, still clearly half-asleep, and you let him pull you closer. The body pillow is entirely in the way and Andrei grumbles. “I hate this pillow,” he mutters, doing his best to wrap his body around yours.
“Just a little bit longer,” you mumble, fully knowing that you may never sleep without the body pillow again. It’s just so damn comfortable.
You wish you could sleep in the next morning, but even though Andrei is doing his best to be quiet while he gets ready, the baby is apparently dealing with hiccups. It’s like a little alien in your stomach and it’s both weirdly endearing and also freaking you out a little. You’re awake by 7:30, but you just stay in bed, smoothing your hand over your stomach, watching the way it jumps around.
“So freaky,” you mutter. Eventually Andrei wanders back into your room, holding a protein shake and already a little sweaty.
“Morning, milaya,” he drops a kiss on your lips and you squint at him.
“Did you already fit in a workout?”
He ruffles the hair on the back of his head, a little sheepish, “yeah. I woke up early. Ah, I’m getting a little nervous.” He sits down on the edge of the bed and you reach out for his hand. You stroke your thumb over the ridges of his knuckles. He squeezes your fingers gently.
“I’m nervous too,” you admit. “But we’re the ultimate team, right? I don’t know what I’m doing and you don’t either. But we’ll learn together.”
Andrei lifts your hand to his mouth and kisses the underside of your wrist. He rests his cheek against the back of your hand and you wiggle your fingers against his stubble, smiling slightly.
“You’re going to be the best dad,” you say, one-hundred percent confident in your statement.
He chews on his lower lip, absorbing your words, and nods. “If I’m half as good of a dad as you will be a mom, then I think the baby will be okay,” he says, leaning in to kiss you again. You sigh into his mouth.
“Glad we’re all on the same page,” you joke. “Now please help me up because I really can’t do it on my own anymore.”
Andrei obliges, pulling you to your feet and watching attentively as you go slowly about your morning routine. You shoo him out of the room after fifteen minutes, starting to get agitated with his hovering. “Drei, please, I’m fine. Just go shower and get ready to go to your skate,” you sigh, twisting your hair into a pair of messy braids and pinning them up into a milkmaid style so it’s off your neck.
“Okay, sorry, milaya,” he kisses the nape of your neck and ducks into the shower, leaving you time to change into a different lounge set and head for the kitchen. Nothing sounds appealing to you, mild nausea making your stomach roll. You settle for popping a slice of bread into the toaster and grabbing an avocado. You lean your elbow on the counter and prop your chin in the palm of your hand, yawning while you wait for your toast. Sleep quality really had declined the last few weeks.
Andrei’s back in the kitchen as you’re eating the avocado straight from its peel. He looks at you, raising an eyebrow and lips twitching in an effort to hide his amusement. You wrinkle your nose at him. “I didn’t want the toast,” you explain, gesturing at the butter smeared bread with your spoon. “You can have it, if you want.”
He snags the toast with two fingers and kisses the side of your head. “Spasibo. I’ll text you when I’m leaving the rink, if you need anything, okay?” He asks around a mouthful of bread.
You nod, “be careful. Love you.”
After he leaves, you tidy the kitchen and the living room, even though neither are all that dirty. You just mostly want to keep moving a bit - once you sit down, you’re basically not getting up for God or country.
By the time Andrei gets home for his pre-game nap and meal, he finds you curled up on the couch, sobbing at an episode of Bones. He’s immediately kneeling on the floor in front of you, running his hands over you thighs, “hey, what’s going on? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?”
“We’re fine,” you wave him off with a sniffle. “It’s just…Bones and Booth danced around their relationship for so long! And I forgot how unsatisfying it was when they finally got together.”
Andrei looks at you like you’re crazy before schooling his features into a more neutral expression. He sucks his upper lip in between his teeth, clearly trying not to laugh. He rubs at your knee soothingly, “how about you come nap with me? Take a break from the TV.”
You nod, rubbing at your damp eyes like an overtired toddler. The hormones are fluctuating wildly today. Andrei gently helps you get to your feel and trails after you to the bedroom. “How was morning skate?” You ask, climbing into bed. Andrei wraps his body around yours, the big spoon to your little, and buries his face in your hair.
“Good, it was nice to get a little energy flowing before the game,” he mumbles into your hair. His arms are a secure cocoon of warmth around you and the baby kicks where his palm is splayed flat over the side of your stomach. “Hello to you too, little one,” he says a little louder.
You snuggle into his embrace and fall asleep easily, the hour long nap passing faster than you had thought. Andrei gets up and starts getting dressed, while you watch. He’s in game mode now, more serious than before, more in his head. You know he’s thinking about the plays that were surely drawn up during morning skate. He steps into his suit pants - a new plaid number that is a mild assault on the eyes, but he’s so damn handsome he makes it work - and does a little hop in place when he does up the button and fly. You’re blatantly ogling him when he pulls his shirt over his head and tosses it into the hamper.
“Creep,” he teases you, catching you looking.
“Don’t be so handsome then,” you shoot back, pointedly rubbing your stomach.
His smile turns a little feral and his eyes darken. “You look good like that, pregnant with my baby,” his voice is low and you press your thighs together.
You shake your finger at him, “no way, keep it in your pants, Mister Svechnikov, that’s how we ended up here in the first place.”
He laughs, eyes twinkling and dimple popping, finishing buttoning up his shirt. “I didn’t hear any complaints,” he says casually.
“Give it a week or so and I’m sure you’ll be hearing a few complaints,” you wince at a particularly strong kick lands somewhere in the vicinity of your ribs. “I know it’s cramped in there, but easy on the ribs,” you murmur to your stomach.
Andrei finishes getting ready, eats a quick meal, and is back on the road. He’ll be at the arena nearly three hours before the game, but you know it’s part of his routine. Besides, Brady likes to get there early too, so you know he won’t be alone. More likely, Brady will be alone while Andrei handles the puck by the boards before people start coming.
You send Andrei your usual pre-game text and make yourself a light dinner. The TV gets switched to the pre-game and you settle on the couch with your book and laptop. Your mom checks in with you, FaceTiming for a bit, and Elena is texting too, confusing you a little with the time difference, but she’s so excited to get into town tomorrow. The WAG group chat is buzzing too - asking how you are and sending pictures of the kids at the game. You doze off during the game, but wake up to a winning score for the Canes mid-way through the third. The score holds and Andrei comes home bouncy and full of energy.
“Four game point streak!” You grin, cheering for him as he comes into the house.
Andrei blushes and waves you off. “Team effort,” is all he says, even though he was a driving force on the ice. He drops to his knees next to the couch and rubs your stomach. “How’s baby?”
“Kicking away,” you card your fingers through Andrei’s hair, scratching lightly at his scalp. He leans into your touch like a cat. “I’m pretty sure she’s going to kick her way out, like in Alien.”
“Gross,” Andrei pulls a face and then ducks closer to your stomach, whispering to the bump. And in Russian too, so even though you can hear him, you can’t understand him.
You nudge his shoulder with a foot. “Secrets, secrets are no fun, unless you share them with everyone,” you tease.
He shakes his head, “it’s between a father and his child.”
“Rude,” you roll your eyes affectionately, pouting a bit. “Take me to bed, Mister Svechnikov, it’s past my bedtime and growing your child is making me sleepy.”
“Whatever you want, Mrs. Svechnikova,” he grins.
All of his post-game excitement is worn off by the next morning and he’s back to worrying about missing the baby’s birth. “Please, Drei, go to Nashville,” you sigh, rubbing at your lower back. “You’ll be back Thursday afternoon. Your mom and dad are coming in this afternoon. There’s nothing happening.”
“I just don’t want to miss anything,” he protests. His phone is on the counter and his fingers twitch, like he’s going to snatch it up and text Rod any second. You bat the phone away from him and scowl.
“Go to the game, Andrei,” you say firmly. “If anything happens, and it won’t, I’ll make sure someone gets the message to you and gets you on a plane back here, okay?”
“Okay,” he sighs, clearly wanting to argue with you more, but catches sight of the look on your face and wisely shuts his mouth. Eventually, he’s all packed up and is kissing you good-bye so he can head to the airport. “I love you, milaya,” he says against your temple.
“I love you, too,” you whisper, starting to feel a little emotional. Damn hormones. “I’m sorry I keep snapping at you.”
He chuckles a bit. “It’s okay, you’re allowed. I’ll see you in two days, okay?” His hands come up to cradle your belly. “Keep mama company, okay little one?”
You sniffle and laugh a little wetly. “I’ve got a foot wedged in my ribs, I’m never alone,” you joke.
With one more kiss, Andrei is off and you’re alone. It’s not like this is the first time he’s been gone during the last nine months, and there have been periods where he was gone even longer than two days, but maybe it’s because you’re so close to your due date that you’re feeling extra emotional.
To distract yourself, you make sharlotka - an apple cake from a recipe Elena sent you a few weeks ago when your main craving had been apples dipped in honey. She and Igor are already en route to Raleigh and you invited them over for dinner when they land, mostly to keep you company so you don’t go crazy.
Andrei’s in Nashville and has texted you about fifteen times by the time his parents Uber to your place. You click over onto FaceTime and grin at him, “you can relax, my love. The calvary is here.” You turn the camera and his parents wave at him.
“We will take good care of her, Andreyusha,” Elena blows him a kiss.
“But we will not save you any cake,” Igor teases, holding up his plate, having immediately beelined for the dessert.
Andrei looks a little put out about the cake, but relieved that you’re not alone. “I thought you were going to relax?”
“A girl has to eat,” you tease. “We’re good here, focus on the game and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
Elena and Igor end up staying in the guest room, exhausted from the travel, and you reap the rewards when you wake up to a full breakfast spread. “I couldn’t sleep,” Elena shrugs, her smile just like Andrei’s. “Besides, I needed to make sure my doch and grandbaby are well-fed.”
She pats your cheek and sets a plate full of eggs, toast, fruit, and bacon in front of you. You blink at the amount of food, knowing you’re definitely not going to be able to eat it all, but thank her effusively.
“I didn’t even think we had bacon or all this fruit in the house,” you comment, nibbling at a corner of the toast.
“You didn’t,” Elena laughs. “I went to the grocery store.”
“Oh, gosh! Elena, you didn’t have to do that,” you say. “You’re supposed to be on vacation.”
She waves you off, bracelets clinking together on her wrist. “This is vacation. With family, waiting for the baby? My girl, this is exactly what I want to do.”
“Oh, okay,” you slump back in the chair, trying to stretch your back. “If you’re sure…”
“I am sure, now eat some eggs. The calcium is good for growing the baby.”
“Yes, ma’am,” you jokingly salute and dig into the eggs. They’re actually really good - soft and creamy and definitely hitting the spot. You’re finishing breakfast when Igor comes through the front door. You do a double-take - you thought he had been upstairs this whole time.
“Can’t have breakfast without pastries,” he winks at you, setting a bakery bag on the counter. His mischievous smile is just like Andrei’s. Elena pulls out a box stuffed full of croissants, muffins, turnovers, and doughnuts.
“Oh, wow,” you grin, reaching for a chocolate croissant. “A girl could definitely get used to this treatment.”
After breakfast, you try to help clean up but are forced back down into the chair. They ask if you and Andrei have picked a name and that’s a big fat no. Neither one of you can agree on a name you like. You have a little idea forming in the back of your head, but you don’t want to say anything to Andrei until the baby’s born.
It’s a beautiful April day in Raleigh, so Elena hustles you all outside for a walk in the fresh air. It’s slow going since you’re hauling around the giant baby bump, but the fresh air feels good and the walk is helping the stiffness in your lower back. You assume the stereotypical pregnant woman pose, with your hands bracing at your lower back while you walk.
A little cramp ripples over your stomach and you wince, pressing your fingers into the spot. You wait, but it doesn’t happen again, so you figure it was probably breakfast settling. But you’re on alert for the rest of the day, just in case. The only thing still bothering you at dinner time is your lower back, but that’s been sore and stiff for two weeks now, so you assume it’s just from the weight of carrying the baby.
At least, that’s what you assume until it’s thirty minutes to puck drop and you feel a slight popping sensation between your legs, accompanied by a trickle of liquid.
You stand stock still for a beat and then mutter, “oh, shit. Andrei’s going to kill me.”
Elena looks up from her book and frowns at you, “what’s going on?”
“I, ah, think my water broke,” you grip the countertop tightly. Liquid continues to drip down your thighs and there’s a little cramp like the one you felt earlier. “Oh, yeah, definitely my water breaking.”
Andrei’s parents jump up from their spots on the couch and from there it’s a flurry of action. You call your mom and she has your dad in the car before you can even get a word in beyond “hey, mom, I’m in labor.” They’ll be at your place within the hour.
A stronger cramp grips your stomach and now you realize that you’ve been feeling contractions for the last day or so. Andrei’s going to be so annoyed that you made him go to Nashville. Warm-ups have started and you know that Andrei’s unreachable by phone for the foreseeable future. You still text him anyway (“hi sorry i said nothing was gonna happen but i’m in labor 😅😬”) and when another contraction hits fifteen minutes after the last one, you figure it’s about time to head to the hospital.
While Igor drives, you text Heather Staal, wondering if she can get ahold of Jordan or Rod to let Andrei know before he gets on the ice. She promises to try and get the message across, reassuring you that you’ll be fine and Andrei won’t miss a thing. You really hope she’s right, because you’ll never hear the end of it otherwise.
You settle a bit once you get admitted and changed into the flimsy hospital gown. Your parents get to the hospital just a few minutes after you do and your mom immediately joins Elena in your room, making sure you have everything you need.
Right now, you just really need Andrei.
Your dad and Igor are in the waiting room watching, ironically, the Canes game. They pop back into the room every few minutes to offer an update.
“He’s still on the bench.”
“Took a shift, had an assist on a Brady goal.”
“Still on the ice.”
“First intermission and he’s going back to the room. No one looks like they’ve told him anything.”
You huff through increasing contractions while they update you, getting irritated.
“Start of the second, oh, he’s still on the bench.”
“What the fuck,” you mutter, grabbing your phone and texting Heather again. She’s sympathetic, but had texted Rod and wasn’t sure what was happening. You’re halfway ready to call Bridgestone’s main line and start screaming.
Your dad skids into the room while you’re gripping your mom’s hand through a contraction. “He’s off the ice! Looks like one of the assistant coaches told Rod something and then Andrei was yanked off the bench.”
You start crying, relieved that Andrei is finally going to be on his way.
Not even fifteen minutes later, he FaceTimes you.
“I’m on my way, solnyshka, I’ll be there soon,” the words burst out of his mouth. He’s half dressed, shirt buttoned all wrong and sweaty hair mussed over his forehead. “Are you okay? How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay, it hurts, obviously, but I’m okay. Just get here in one piece, okay? I’m so sorry I made you go to the game,” you wipe at the tears on your face, pressing your lips together to smother a shout as another contraction hits.
Andrei’s face is pale on your phone’s screen. “It’s not your fault. I’m on my way now, just hold on for a little bit.” He tells you he loves you and hangs up as he runs out of the locker room.
While you suffer through the contractions, Andrei texts you with updates. He’s booked on a flight out of Nashville that doesn’t leave until 10 and he’s clearly annoyed about it - there’s not a single emoji in his messages. You try not to freak out that he’s going to miss anything. At your last check, you were only 3 centimeters dilated, so there’s still hours of labor ahead of you. You pace the hallways, holding the IV pole keeping you hydrated, with your mom and Elena at your back for support. When you walk past a TV, it’s turned to the post-game and Rod is fielding a question about Andrei’s abrupt departure during the second.
Rod smiles on screen, “well, I’ll tell you it wasn’t for anything bad. His wife’s in labor back home, so as soon as we heard that, Svechy took off. Don’t think any of us could’ve stopped him even if we wanted to. We’re wishing the both of them the best of luck and can’t wait to hear about the newest member of the Caniac family. Next question?”
You start crying again, overly tired and overly emotional. You just want Andrei.
The epidural is administered around 11:30 and you doze off for a bit, waking up confused when a particularly bad contraction hits. “I thought I wasn’t supposed to feel anything?” You whine, gripping the rails of the bed.
The nurse hums at you sympathetically, “they’re not totally 100% effective, hon.”
You glare at her, but she’s clearly used to worse, because it doesn’t phase her at all. She just continues taking your vitals and making her notes.
Once the contraction passes, you ask, “have you seen my parents and in-laws?”
“I think the dads left, saying something about the airport, and the moms are in the coffee shop downstairs,” she pats your hand. “Sounds like you might be getting your husband here soon.”
And you do.
Thankfully, Andrei’s flight was right on time and smooth, so he landed in Raleigh at midnight and with your dad breaking speed limits, is at the hospital and by your side before 1:30. He skids into the room, looking frazzled. “I’m sorry, mne zhal, I’m so sorry, my love,” he babbles, stopping at your side and stroking your hair off your forehead before leaning down to kiss you. “I’m here. I didn’t know, they didn’t tell me until the second…”
The tears flow easily and you grip Andrei’s hand like never before. “I don’t care, I’m just glad you’re here now,” you break off into a shout and curl up when the contraction hits. Stupid fucking epidural.
He keeps hold of your hand and strokes your hair, murmuring in Russian. With his other hand, he rakes his hair off his face. Once you let go, he takes off his suit jacket, tossing it on the spare chair, and rolls up the sleeves of his button down. “How long, do the doctors say?”
“I don’t know,” you shrug. “Last check, I was like 6 or 7 centimeters.”
All four of your parents are hovering at the doorway and you wave them in with a sigh. Elena hands Andrei a coffee and a sandwich, kissing his cheek when he leans down. “Eat up, you are going to have a long night,” she says, smiling and barely hiding her excitement.
“Spasibo, mama,” he sighs, taking a long drink of coffee. Half the cup is gone and you watch him enviously. Your mom sets another cup down on the little railing tray table.
“That’ll be cold before you get to it,” she says, “but I’m sure you’ll need it.”
Andrei thanks her too and thanks the dads for getting him to the hospital so quickly. They both shrug him off, also barely concealing their excitement. Andrei laughs, “now, I think we’d like a little privacy?” He looks over at you and you nod tiredly. The four parents are kind of a lot to deal with all at once. He grabs the tangle of keys from his pocket and passes them to his dad. “Can you bring me a change of clothes and my car?”
Of course, Igor agrees and all four parents follow him from the room, debating on who will go and which cars they’re going to switch around. You honestly don’t care what they do, just that they leave.
Once they’re all gone, Andrei sucks in a deep breath and sits on the edge of the bed. “Okay, just us now,” he says, sounding a little dazed.
“Just us and the kid,” you reply, exhausted.
“Just us and the kid,” he repeats, smiling slightly. “The timing on this kid,” he shakes his head.
“I know,” you laugh. “I really didn’t think anything was going to happen.”
“It’s all happening now though,” Andrei holds your hand, barely flinching when you squeeze.
Your labor stalls briefly and then it’s nearly 3 a.m. and you’re pushing. Andrei’s at your side, holding one of your legs up by the thigh. He has the other arm wrapped around your shoulders and you’re nearly bent in half. The doctor counts down from ten and then you’re allowed to slump back against the pillows for a few seconds of a break.
“It hurts,” you sob, grasping for Andrei’s hands. He wipes at your tears.
“I know, I know, but you’re doing so good,” he croons. “You’re doing so good and we’ll have a baby soon.”
You’re instructed to push again and Andrei cheers you on, murmuring encouragement in your ear. You shriek, your entire body too hot and too tight and then there’s a release and a different cry.
“Oh,” you drop back against the pillows, suddenly empty.
Andrei looks down at you in shock and then at the baby that’s held in the doctor’s hands, bloody and screaming. He laughs and kisses you deeply, “it’s a girl! A little girl, moya koroleva. You did it.” He bounces on the balls of his feet, vibrating with excitement.
“A girl?” You cry, laughing with joy when the baby’s held up and placed on your chest. “Oh my god, it’s a girl.” Your hands wrap around the baby instinctively, cradling her little head, sobbing as you look at her features.
Andrei’s crying too, his eyes red. He wipes the back of his wrist under his nose and presses her forehead against your temple. “She’s beautiful. Just like her mama.” His voice is hoarse and tears are dripping onto your bare shoulder.
“Drei,” you whisper, full of emotion, and he gets it, kissing you deeply.
“I am so proud of you, my love. My two girls. My best girls,” he laughs, disbelieving. He settles one hand on the baby’s back and she looks impossibly small under his touch.
Time seems to blur from there and you’re allowed to keep the baby on your chest while the nurses run their tests. You hear snippets - she’s 6 pounds, thirteen ounces, twenty-one inches long - but otherwise you have tunnel vision on the gorgeous little baby that’s all yours and Andrei’s. Andrei gets her for skin-to-skin time while they clean you up and you sob again, watching him cradle her on one forearm. He looks up at you, hair flopping over his forehead, exhausted dark circles under his eyes, and beams at you, full dimple and missing tooth showing.
“I love you,” he mouths and then he looks back down at the baby, his expression soft and awed.
Before you know it, you’ve managed to feed the baby and get in a little nap in your private room. Andrei’s stretched out on the little couch, feet dangling over the edge. He hasn’t changed, even though his dad brought back clothes hours ago, so he’s still in his suit pants and dress shoes, button down shirt half-buttoned. He’s dozing too, getting in a nap since he’s been awake for over 24 hours at this point. At some point you know the four parents are going to be bursting down the door to meet her, but for now, they’re respectfully staying at your house until you call to give the okay to come by. It’s nice that they’re letting you and Andrei have time to bond with her, although from the amount of crying when Andrei had called to tell them it was a girl, you don’t think they’ll be able to hold off too much longer.
The nurse brings in the baby in her little plastic bassinet, cheerfully transferring her to your arms so you can feed her again. “Does she have a name?” the nurse asks, getting you all situated. It’s the second time you’ve been asked about her name, but you haven’t had a chance to run your idea by Andrei.
Before you can answer, Andrei’s voice cuts in. “Yeah,” he yawns, “does she have a name?”
You laugh, “no, not yet. But I did have an idea.”
Andrei looks at you expectantly, but you wait until the nurse leaves to speak. Without looking at him, you trace your finger over the slope of the baby’s nose - your nose - and it twitches, like a little rabbit. Andrei smiles at the sight.
“A little zaychik,” he says, watching her nose twitch again while she sucks at your nipple. “What name did you have in mind?”
“I was thinking,” you start, looking up at him, “she needs a name that means something to us. I’d like to name her after someone that means a lot to us too. A name that can inspire her and well, what do you think of Evgenia? Evie for short.”
Andrei’s face freezes and his hand is still against the bottom of the baby’s foot where he’s been stroking with his index finger. He coughs, swallows. “For Geno?”
“Yeah,” you confirm, “since he’s your best friend. I thought it might be nice to honor him.”
Andrei’s eyes well up and he runs the back of his wrist under his nose again while nodding. “I…yeah, solnyshka, yeah. I like that. I think he’ll like it too.” He sniffles and kisses your forehead. Looking down at the baby, he strokes her little hand where it rests on the swell of your breast. “What do you think, Evgenia? Are you an Evie?”
Evie’s little nose twitches again and you press your lips together to muffle a little cry. Seems like that’s settled.
“Evie,” you murmur, heart bursting with love. “She’s going to be the best adventure, huh?”
“We’ll definitely have a good story to tell her about her birth,” he laughs a little wetly, taking her from your arms when she’s done eating. He burps her the way the nurse showed him earlier, looking like a natural. Evie sighs and settles, falling asleep in his arms, her little lips pursed in a pout.
While she’s sleeping, Andrei pulls his phone from his pocket and FaceTimes Geno, clicking the volume lower so his brother’s shouted greeting of excitement doesn’t wake the baby. It’s well after breakfast in San Jose and Geno is outside, sun shining brightly behind him.
“Well? My baby brother has a baby?” Geno grins. “Mama called, but wouldn’t tell me if it’s a boy or a girl or the name. Said you two wanted to share that news. Although you didn’t have a name picked when she called.”
Andrei settles on the mattress next to you and you wave at Geno, a tired smile on your face. “That’s because we just picked it like ten minutes ago,” you laugh.
“You look good, mladshaya sestra,” Geno says warmly. “Now don’t keep me waiting. Uncle Geno’s dying to hear.”
Andrei angles his phone down so Evie’s face fills the screen and you can hear Geno’s exclamation of excitement. “Meet your niece, Evgenia Svechnikova. Evie for short.”
Geno’s speechless for a moment and then he starts rambling in Russian, his voice hoarse and clearly emotional. Andrei’s crying again and then you’re crying and the only one not crying is the actual hours-old baby.
“Evie,” Geno repeats. “She’s beautiful.” He pauses and then jokes, “clearly takes after her namesake.”
Andrei shifts the phone back up so it’s just the adults on screen and you can see Geno wiping at his eyes. You lean your head against Andrei’s shoulder.
“I love you guys,” Geno says.
“We love you too, Uncle Geno,” you reply.
“I’m hanging up before you make me cry again,” he laughs, waving and ending the call. Andrei chuckles and sets his phone down on the mattress near his leg.
“That went well,” he deadpans, a smile playing at his lips.
“I can’t wait to tell your parents her name,” you smirk. “I don’t think there’s enough tissues in the greater-Raleigh area for the flood that’s gonna come out of your mom.”
Andrei looks down at Evie, “are you ready to meet your babushki and dedushki, zaychik?”
Evie continues to sleep soundly, her little face twitching as she dreams.
“I think the question is if we’re ready for the babushki and dedushki,” you tease, holding onto Andrei’s bicep with one hand and tracing the shell of Evie’s ear with the other. She’s just so perfect, you could stare at her forever.
The grandparents are invited to come by after dinner, after you’ve sent Andrei home to shower and eat a real meal. The nurses take Evie to the nursery and you get a solid chunk of sleep. Andrei’s back before you know it, holding a takeout bag in one hand and a little shopping bag in the other.
“What’s that?” You sit up, curious, and set aside your phone. It’s been blowing up with congratulations from your family members and the team.
He sets the takeout bag in front of you, “sushi, as requested.”
You moan happily, “oh thank God, I’ve been craving a spicy tuna roll.” You dig into the food while Andrei sets the other bag on the mattress. He looks a little embarrassed, ears pink, so you wait for him to share.
“I passed by that boutique you like,” he says, pulling out a tissue paper wrapped bundle. “And saw this.” He unwraps it and a little beige onesie spills out, softly ribbed fabric extending up into a hood with a pair of floppy bunny ears attached.
“Oh!” You gasp, all thoughts of sushi forgotten as you take the little outfit. “Drei!” You start crying again. “It’s so cute!”
“Evie needs to be dressed in her finest to meet the grandparents,” he laughs.
“Dressed as a little baby bunny,” you cry, wiping at your face. “Dammit, these hormones are killing me. Ugh, Drei, I love this. I love it and I love you and I love her and I…” You break off into a choking little sob-laugh. “I can’t believe she’s ours.”
He wraps you up in a hug and you cry into his shoulder - he smells like laundry detergent and home. “I can’t either,” he agrees, exhaling in disbelief. Yesterday you were a duo and now you’re a trio.
Andrei pulls back from the hug and looks down at you, eyes twinkling. “Should I go get the little zaychik? Get her all presentable for the grandparents?”
When he brings her back, Evie’s dressed in the little bunny onesie, waving her hands in the air and you promptly start sobbing again. Andrei patiently rubs your back while you blubber about how adorable she is.
He settles her in your arms, already a natural at holding her. You knew he was going to be an amazing dad, but you could never have imagined this.
“Your dada is the best man in the world, Evie,” you whisper to her, kissing a little baby fist when she waves it around. Andrei just looks at you like you’ve hung the moon, a sweet, tired smile on his face.
Considering the fact that your entire lives have just changed, you’ve never felt happier.

take the breath that's true | lee felix (1/2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: non-idol!lee felix x fem!reader
content info + tw: time travel, angst, fluff, felix is called yongbok in this, wrote this when i was sleep deprived lol, violence + bullying
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
It had begun as a small lie, really. A lie so good, you believed it yourself.
"I'm taking a semester off."
You would be doing a paid internship to fill that time, so it's not like you're not doing anything because god forbid you take a break from your studies to backpack through Europe or something so useless. Your parents would have a stroke.
And then, you did the unthinkable.
You dropped out of university.
Got a full-time job at a bookstore. Began living life peacefully, all the while deceiving your parents who lived a few hours away.
The liberation you felt by doing this was nothing you had ever experienced before.
Of course, it had its drawbacks. You were practically living a lie. Because you dropped out of school, you no longer saw your friends every day. They often hung out without you, and over the years, you eventually turned into something of a social recluse.
You had one good friend from work who invited you to go out every once in a while. Each time you declined because blowing out your eardrums whilst standing in a room packed with strangers either drunk or high on something never really appealed to you.
Soon enough, you reached a place of discontentment.
Would your life have turned out any better if you pushed through with school?
That was something you wondered about every single day.
"Are you eating well?"
The line fell silent, save for the distant sounds of your mother chopping up something on her cutting board. You could hear something boiling on the stove.
You stared blankly at the bowl of instant noodles by your sink.
"Yes."
Another small lie amongst all other lies.
"You sure?" She pressed, disbelief evident in her voice. "Why don't I come over there sometime, fix you up a proper meal-"
"No. Mom, you don't have to do that. It'll just be a waste of gas, I'll be really busy these upcoming weeks."
"Well, when is your break? It's been a while since you've last visited us, you know. Your poor father has been wanting to see you, he misses you."
Your mother knew just how to pull at your heartstrings.
"I know, I miss you guys too. I'll visit on my birthday, okay? In a couple of months, I promise."
Seven years ago;
They were at it again. The three biggest pompous assholes of your grade.
This time, it was this short, lanky kid. You recognized him from homeroom.
Your eyes flitted to his so-called friends, turning away sheepishly when he looked to them for help. Just one moment ago, they were all at their table, talking and laughing.
Why was no one doing anything?
Just as you were lifting yourself from your seat to inform a teacher - someone, anyone - another boy stepped in front of the smaller one.
The bullies were blocking him from your line of sight, but you could see that he wasn't much taller than the former. They were still towering over him.
"Isn't that Yongbok?" The girl behind you whispered to her friend. "He does taekwondo, right?
"Yeah... but there are three of them. And they're double his size."
You promptly slid out of your seat, gripping onto your metal lunch tray. Your friends glanced at you in a snap, all visibly concerned. "What are you doing?"
"I'm just..." You didn't get to finish your sentence as you neared the guys. Not that you knew the answer to that anyway. You were acting on pure impulse.
Now you could fully hear what they were saying.
"Rich guy, huh?"
They were apparently laughing at the boy's choice of accessories. He wore a gold watch on his wrist. It did look quite funny on him - only because it seemed a bit too big and grown up for the boy.
Something did surprise you, though.
If he was intimidated, he was great at hiding it. It was as if they were all having a normal and friendly conversation. On the other hand, the kid behind him was close to wetting his pants.
"So, if you're done talking to my friend, we would like to have our lunch now."
This did nothing to defuse the situation.
"What did you just say?"
Sweat pooled between the palms of your hands, the utensils clattering as they shook in your tray.
Your mind flashed to the first week of school. That kid, who got beaten up so badly he was coughing up blood.
Was this just going to keep on happening?
Without much thought behind it, you drew your arms back and flung your tray at them as hard as you could.
It made an audible plunk as it collided with the back of their leader's head.
There was momentary silence before the cafeteria exploded with stunned gasps and sputters of laughter. You remained frozen at your spot, arms still above your head. Your lunch was now on his white shirt, staining it orange.
"Who the hell-"
Everyone in the room was staring at you. Your gaze fell to the boy with the gold watch. He looked afraid now.
But not for himself.
You were so, damn lucky.
One second, you were receiving the deadliest stare from the scariest guy at school, and the next, a teacher had come to break them up.
For the next few days, you went everywhere with your friends. Needed to use the restroom? Needed to grab something from your locker? The whole group was coming with you.
You had never once been so scared for your life.
One afternoon, one of your friends had overheard the bullies talking. They were teasing their leader for letting you off the hook so easily. He apparently refused to bully a girl - a cute one at that.
"Oh my god, ew. Unbelievable." You shook your head with an expression of disgust. "There's no way. You made that last part up."
"He really said that!"
Your friend next to you released a wistful sigh, pursing her lips. "I wish someone would fall in love with me right after I'd just chucked a full tray of food at them, too..."
Things weren't so easy for gold watch boy, though.
He became their target. And he made it so easy for them, too. Every time any of them had a problem with anyone, he would be there, at their rescue. Taking their place. He didn't fight back either.
You just didn't get it.
How could someone possibly endure that much? That had to have taken a physical and mental toll on him. Yet you would see him in the hallways every single day, with that same bright smile. Despite the cut on his lip.
They kept getting interrupted on school grounds, so the bullies had made it routine to take him somewhere after school. You decided to follow them one day, and you were led to an alleyway just a couple blocks away from school.
Why didn't he just run away? You had seen him on the track. He was one of the fastest in your grade.
"... just not on my face, guys."
You ran and snuck up behind some stairs, peeking over the railing.
Whatever he had said earned him some scoffs.
"Pretty boy doesn't want his face ruined."
"What a vain little shit."
Yongbok blinked widely, almost innocently - as if it was all just one little misunderstanding.
"Oh, it's not like that at all. It's just my mom... I don't want her to know about any of this."
"Alright," the biggest of them all chuckled, lip curling smugly.
Your heart twisted in anger.
"We can have that arranged for you," he ambled towards the boy.
"Sike!"
His body turned, and his foot suddenly shot up out of nowhere.
You winced with your entire self as the boy stumbled back, holding himself up against the brick wall.
"Shit..."
From your angle, you couldn't tell what exactly happened. But you knew you had to do something before the situation escalated.
You could swear your whole life flashed before your eyes as you sped towards them, yelling. "Stop!"
"The hell?"
"It's that bitch that threw the tray!"
You stopped just a few feet from them, your thoughts racing a mile a minute. A deep sense of regret - then anger, at these stupid bullies, and at yourself for not knowing what to do next and just charging at them like an idiot.
Someone then yanked on your wrist, ending your train of thought. You were forced to move on your feet again as Yongbok dragged you with him through the alleyways. Several voices followed, hollering at you - but you couldn't register anything they were saying as you were focused solely on getting away.
It felt like it had gone on forever. Fortunately, you had run into some policemen, and that managed to scare the guys away.
You now sat at a convenience store, icing Yongbok's jaw where a bruise was starting to form.
"Man, what am I going to do about this?" He clicked his tongue as he stared at his reflection. "This isn't gonna go unnoticed - and I'm running out of excuses."
You were brimming with anger once again.
"Why do you let them do that to you?"
He stared at you, dumbfounded.
"If they don't pick on me, they'll just pick on someone else."
He had said it so plainly and simply. It was mind-boggling. You genuinely could not tell if he was the bravest and most selfless person you had ever met or just an idiot. Somehow, you felt he was both.
You walked away momentarily to pick up something from the cosmetics aisle, paid for it and went to sit back down again.
"So..." You began as you gently dabbed some coverup on the bruise. "You think this makes you like some sort of hero then?"
"Hadn't thought about it that way," his eyes darted across your face absentmindedly. "I'm sorry I didn't get to thank you, for the other day. In the cafeteria."
You waved him off, cleaning your finger on a piece of napkin. "You take their hits on purpose, don't you. I can tell."
He bobbed his head, looking down at his shoes.
"And you dodge some so you don't end up seriously injured."
You sighed through your nose in exasperation. "Why haven't you reported them?"
"You don't know, do you?" He gazed out the window. "Nothing will be done about it. One of them - his father donates large sums of money to the school."
"Doesn't make him untouchable."
"It kind of does."
You hated it. That deep down, you knew he was right.
Yongbok slid a packet of ice cream towards you. "Here," he grinned. "For saving me from the bullies, twice."
Present;
On the ride home, the car passed by your old high school. It did - every time you came back.
And you were always left wondering what ever happened to that freckled boy since you last saw him.
If he was happy, and if he was doing better than you now. You hoped so.
It was comforting how much had remained the same, as if you had never left - a time machine in a way.
You longed to go back.
To the summer before you began your first year in university. The last time you were ever truly happy.
Despite it being the night before your actual birthday, your parents had thrown an event for you. So many people had shown up - neighbors, old friends from high school that stayed back.
It felt very reminiscent of the past when everyone would get together, and you slept that night content for the first time in a very long time. You dreamt of your life before, how those warm memories felt closer than ever now that you were here.
Such happiness...
"Wake up, my precious girl~"
A grin was spreading across your face before you could even fully open your eyes. You ignored the ache behind them as the sun greeted you first thing.
Your mother smiled kindly back at you, her fingers gently combing through your bedhead.
"Mom..."
"Hm?"
"Can't I stay here..." You mumbled. "Stay here forever?"
She laughed softly, and your smile grew at the sound. "Don't you want to see your friends today? They must have something planned for you."
"My friends?" You rubbed at your eyes, still disoriented from sleep.
"C'mon," she stood, patting your leg. "Let's get up. I've prepared breakfast."
With your eyes half-shut, you felt your way out of the room and sat yourself on a wooden chair.
Your mother settled a bowl of soup in front of you on the table. "Happy birthday, sweetie..."
"I have something for you." Excitement shone in your father's eyes as he pushed a dark blue box towards you.
He didn't... again?
"Dad, you don't need to get such expensive gifts."
He chuckled heartily. "Can't I get something nice for my only daughter just this once?"
You flipped the lid open and grew puzzled at what was inside. It was a simple, silver necklace with a round diamond pendant. The one you wore every single day.
The one your father gifted you a few years back. It was the first time he had spent so much on a present.
"Do you like it?"
"Yes, but dad - isn't it..."
Everything felt eerily familiar.
You shot up from your chair, and headed back to your room.
"What's wrong?"
You searched for the necklace on your nightstand where you had placed it last night, then on the floor, if it had fallen by any chance.
It wasn't there.
As you rose to your feet, your eyes caught the screen of your phone.
What? It couldn't be right. Yesterday was Friday... so shouldn't it be Saturday?
"You guys aren't... playing some sort of prank on me, are you?"
Your parents glanced at each other with momentary confusion, then back to where you stood in the hall.
"Are you that surprised with my gift?" Your father laughed, then beckoned you over. "Come on, you can put it on now. Then we can eat."
It was happening again - all of it.
The things your parents said at breakfast, you wouldn't have been able to recall it but now that it was in front of you all over again, there was no doubt about it.
Everything was the exact same.
You looked in the mirror and had bangs again.
Your phone was blowing up with the same messages from your friends in that old group chat.
This only meant one thing.
He was still here.

Tim drake for the headcanon ask game please
tim tim my beloved tim <3
Headcanon A:  realistic
the first time tim lost a tooth, the tooth fairy did accidentally forget to come. the second time tim lost a tooth, the tooth fairy gave him $500 and a playstation along with a very long letter of apology.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
the first time tim visits the farm, kon is so prepared to roast him over his inability to do basic farm chores and laugh at him when he gets attacked by a chicken. he's absolutely outraged when tim not only apparently already knows how to milk a cow, he also seems to be some sort of chicken whisperer--the little monsters always chase kon around, but they immediately take a shine to tim, who manages to picks one up without a care in the world. tim is extremely smug about this, and when kon asks him where he learned how to do this, tim just says with a smirk "oh, one of my boarding schools was big into doing everything organic and teaching kids personal responsibility, so we had an on-campus farm we took care of together. did i forget to mention that?"
(kon gets his due, though, when tim passes out from the heat while they're detasseling corn. he flew too close to the sun on the whole "oh, of course i can handle this" from his past experience with crop raising, not taking into account the 85 degree kansas weather in july)
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
the last time he spent together with both his parents was when they came home for about a month and a half for his 13th birthday. it was a great time at first--for tim's birthday they went to the museum, had dinner at their local favorite pizza place, and went out to get ice cream for dessert. jack and janet were even talking about wanting to reduce their traveling and think about where they'd pick to stay if they were to live more permanently in gotham--jack said that the mooney towers penthouse was the biggest, janet strongly preferred the idea of the downtown condo so they were within walkable distance of everything. tim didn't want to get his hopes up, but they were even looking at the local schools for a possible transfer, which they had never done before. they were happy for a few weeks, not fighting. but at the very end of july, jack got talked into buying a really ostentatious art piece as an investment (but was actually a massive waste of money) & janet was livid at what she felt was his reckless and irresponsible spending which set off another round of fighting, first over finances which then led into disagreements about the company. any plans to stay in gotham were off the table & they dropped tim off at boarding school come mid-august before they left yet again. his parents apologized for their fighting and said they'd be home for christmas. tim just said "sure, whatever" and slammed the door behind him.
tim felt bad, that night. no matter how mad he was, he should have told his parents he loved them before they left. he promised he would the next time they called. but the next time they called ended up being right as he was about to go leave to train with bruce for the weekend--and he ended up choosing to go train instead of take the call, figuring that training for robin was more important this time & there was always next time. his mom left a message saying she was sorry & that she loved him & maybe they could revisit the whole settling down in gotham more once they got home from this trip. next time never happened, the trip got extended and diverted to haiti. tim never forgave himself for missing his last chance to tell his mother he loved her. he shouldn't have counted on next time.
years later, when his dad calls, he knows he needs to say he loves his dad. he knows if he doesn't, he'll regret it forever, like he missed his chance with his mom. he still can't get the words out. he'll be able to tell his dad next time--because there has to be a next time.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
tim's always had a soft spot for vicki vale--he saved her along with bruce the night of his mother's funeral. he finds her attempts at unmasking him humorous more than anything. after she figures out bruce's secret & becomes batman inc's official reporter, tim keeps showing up in her window as red robin to pass along messages of what stories to report & to pass along any complaints bruce has about the articles she's already done. he grows to like her even more when she rolls her eyes and motherfucks bruce under her breath now that she's getting the whole bruce experience. he takes the opportunity to be a little shit by requesting her as a reporter for neon knights related things & she has to grit her teeth as he plays up the wide-eyed enthusiastic trust fund baby who is clearly teasing her. he always steals her ice cream, like a little shit.

If there was one thing your three housemates knew about you, it was the unfortunate aspect of your family life being… not very great. Ever since you moved in with them a few years ago, they’d noticed plenty. You often spent holidays alone in the apartment, you rarely called home unless you were calling your grandparents, and even then you didn’t seem to be on great terms with your parents past sending money or gift cards to one another on birthdays and special occasions. So they made up for it in different ways: little celebrations for the four of you every year, just to keep you involved in the festivities.
And now that the winter holidays were fast approaching… They’d been discussing plans without you. Essentially, they had plans to head home for some time with their families when they were off work.
And now? Well…
“They should go home with me,” Seungkwan had said, arms crossed over his chest.
A little over a week ago, they’d approached you together to ask if you felt like coming home with one of them. Sure, you weren’t blood related, but the four of you felt like your own little family and you’d met their families enough times that it wouldn’t be weird for you to come around. You had simply given a non-committal “Sure, whatever, just let me know when so I can plan around it for work” without showing any preference or pressure toward them in the event they changed their minds.
Before Chan or Vernon could get a word in, Seungkwan had continued, “One of my sisters is coming home later because her work schedule didn’t line up. So we have the extra room, and they wouldn’t have to sleep on the couch or anything—”
“Uh. Dude. They wouldn’t sleep on the couch at my place,” Vernon spoke up immediately. “They can take my bed—plus my sister loves them.”
That was definitely a stretch. His sister liked you well enough, but most of your interactions involved her (jokingly) pitying you for having her brother as a housemate.
Chan rolled his eyes. “Obviously, they’re going to come home with me. They love my family the most.” (Not true: you were on good terms with everyone, no strict preference whatsoever.)
“You invited them home to celebrate chuseok!” Seungkwan shot back immediately, “Because you didn’t want them to be alone in the apartment!”
“And my parents love them!” Chan said, “They said they’re welcome back anytime—so they’re probably expecting them!”
“Hey,” Vernon spoke up, “my mom already said she’d rather me bring them than let them spend the holidays alone. Plus she hasn’t seen them in a while. Do you really want to disappoint—”
“No! No! You don’t get to play that card!” Seungkwan huffed, hugging himself tight. “You can take them to see your mom whenever you want! I’m going back to Jeju and I think they should come with me.”
“My family is in—”
“You just took them home for chuseok a few months ago!”
Chan stood up, “Right! Months ago! You can take them to Jeju whenever you want, too!”
“That’s different!”
“It’s not!”
Vernon just sat by, watching the two bicker. “I mean… If they don’t want to travel…”
Seungkwan shook his head, “They already said they’re fine with whatever! All we need to do is let them know the dates so they can plan accordingly—which is why they should go with me, because it gives them more than a week to prepare.”
“They don’t have to plan so much if they come with me,” Vernon hummed, sinking back in his chair, “just saying.”
“I’m going the latest of anyone, so they should go with me,” Chan said.
“It’s not our fault you waited so long to get work off,” Seungkwan rolled his eyes. “You should have planned ahead—”
It was around this point that you couldn’t hold back your laughter anymore. The three hadn’t noticed you stepped out of your room earlier, headphones draped around your neck (music paused, otherwise one of them would have definitely heard it by now). You’d thought about saying something plenty of times, but something about how heated up you knew they’d become made you stand by and wait. Of course it’d be Seungkwan who cared the most and was the most vocal about it. And, of course it’d be Chan who wanted to take you home again after his parents adored you so much the first time (chuseok with them had been nice, actually, and you appreciated Chan for including you on something you thought you would be intruding on). And then there was Vernon, who had his arguments but settled back to watch the other two butt heads for a while. If you hadn’t stepped in, you were pretty sure he would have jumped back in once they’d argued themselves out.
“This is serious!” Seungkwan said the moment he saw you. “We don’t want you to spend the holidays alone, so we just need you to decide who you want to go with so we can plan!”
Chan rolled his eyes, “They’re laughing because we’re arguing over it. They probably think we’re silly—”
“I do!” You said, wiping away at a tear that had escaped in your laughter. You made your way across the room to them, already pulling Seungkwan and Chan in for a hug—gesturing for Vernon to come join. “I just… I really love you dumbasses, alright?”
“I wasn’t even arguing—”
You rolled your eyes. “Vernon, get in here.”
The three came together to let you embrace them as warmly as you could before breaking apart again. Chan slid into the innermost chair, letting you take his seat as the four of you started discussing this seriously. With you having gone with Chan for chuseok (again, you thanked him: it was nice that he cared about you and that his family had been okay with letting you join them so you wouldn’t be alone), you’d immediately crossed him off the list to his dismay. But he’d understood: it felt a little unfair for him to steal you away again… and there were plenty of times in the future you could visit his family if you felt like it. That left the decision between Seungkwan and Vernon, and as much as you’d like to see Jeju and the Boos again… you’d rather save that trip for later. Which meant you’d spend some time with Vernon and his family for a bit, the easiest trip and the one you could definitely do if you couldn’t get off work.
“You’re coming home with me next year for chuseok,” Seungkwan said, playing with your fingers idly since you’d left your hand resting on the table. “Chan and Vernon can do something else with you, but you can come with me next year.”
You’d cracked a smile. “Is Mama Boo going to be okay with that?”
“You’re already like family, so yes,” he shrugged. “I’ll talk to her when I see her and make sure, though.”
You’d felt your face grow a little warmer. “How much do your families know…?”
“Enough,” Vernon had shrugged. “I mean. I talk to my mom enough, y’know? She knows that you don’t have any family here and she’d rather you come hang out than be alone. Dad thinks so, too. Everything else is your business, so…”
“Right!” Chan spoke up. “But… That’s why I invited you for chuseok, actually.” He began to fiddle with his sleeve for a moment. “I asked mom about maybe bringing back some food for you, and she said to just bring you along since Seungkwan and Vernon wouldn’t be here and that you shouldn’t be alone. She actually chewed me out for even thinking about  leaving you here alone when chuseok is about family.”
Again, your face grew warmer with embarrassment. “Oh.”
Between Seungkwan playing with your fingers, the arm that Chan had rested around you, and the way Vernon was trying to goad you into playing footsie under the table… Something felt particularly sweet about having the three of them to care about you. You’d always try to be there for them when they needed you most, but it still felt weird accepting that they loved and cared for you just as much—to the point where they would straight up fight over who got to take you home for the holidays, just to ensure that you didn’t spend them alone again.
Maybe you really did have a family here after all. It was just one you’d picked out for yourself, and you loved these idiots more than life.

Favorite scent: Oh, this is hard. I have a coconut shampoo that reminds me of my mom, and a white musk and oud perfume that makes me think of Cairo, and a plum/vanilla/white musk lotion that smells like the last week of school before summer vacation. And finally, do you write/draw/create? if so, use this as an opportunity to shamelessly (😉) promote yourself!
I love to draw and oaint and sculpt and sew, but spend a lot of time at work and have some issues with hypersomnia so it doesn't happen as much as I'd like. Wish I could promote myself better because I miss creating but... I don't know. Maybe I'll make something in the morning.

Steve walked in with a plate of cookies. COOKIES! Maria swiped them from Steve, hoping to hid them from-
"COOKIES" Y/n, Maria's 15 year old daughter shouted from her spot on the ground.
"Oh god." Maria picked her head up, smiling at her little girl. "Yes, my friend Steve brought them for-" She looked at Steve.
"B-both of you guys." He smiled at Y/n.
"Oh my gosh, I have wanted cookies since last week." Y/n shot her mom a quick glance.
"I told you I looked down that aisle four times. How am I suppose to know they are behind a big box of healthy snacks."
"It's their tactic to keep us on a diet. But I've told you about this before."
"Okay, well I can't remember everything. You know that." Taking a cookie and going back to her seat, Y/n says,
"Well you should." And to make sure her mother doesn't hear she adds a quick, "Thanks Steve."
"You're welcome." Steve gives Maria a nod before ducking out and almost instantly someone else walks right back in.
"There she is! The infamous Y/n Hill. If only Maria told us she had a kid. Maybe you'd be an Avenger by now."
"Really?"
"No." Maria butts in, giving Tony Stark a look. "I think Fury needs you, he is on the other end of the hall." She points down the way. Tony hands Y/n a crusty popsicle that he probably found on the ground and leaves the room. Maria walks over and hands her daughter a cookie in exchange for the lolly. She throws it away, despite Y/n's protests. "No, you're not eating that thing. It's not even food."
"Mooooooom!" Y/n huffs.
"Hey, no whining, come on, we're in public. And you're a big girl." Y/n pouts at Maria. "My big girl." She ruffles your hair. Y/n takes another cookie and walked out the door and down the hall. Maria listens from her desk. She hears people greet her and her daughter's laughter as she traveled down the hallway. Hearing Tony again, and Monica, Carol, Wanda, even Vision's, offering her a brownie. And Maria knew bringing her kid to work was gonna be more mothering than work as Y/n walked in with a plate of cookies, a smile and Vision with Wanda on his heels. Come to say hi.
"Hi!" Wanda cheers!
"Mom look what I found!" She showed her mom the plate, offering her one. Which she declines, seeing the chocolate smeared on Y/n's face. She goes to wipe it off, which Y/n avoids, scrunching her face.
"Okay, I have to be at training, 3 minutes ago. She kisses Vision on the cheek and gives Maria and her daughter a smile as she exits.
"I shall be on my way too. Good to see you, Miss Hill." Vision waves good bye to you and your mom.
Over the next few hours it seems you just started to bounce off the walls after finishing BOTH the brownies and cookie plates. With Maria's help, but mostly your own.
"Mommomomomomomomomom-"
"Babe." She held one hand out to you, the other trying to hold herself together. "Please. If you don't specifically need me, don't call my name."
"Mom?" Maria took a breath.
"Yes?"
"I don't know I just wanted to say your name"
"That's-" You were now running down the hall saying, as it echoed across the walls,
"Look mom nooo haaaaands!" Running with your arms flailing about behind you. Giggling you ran back into her office running around to jump into her chair, trying to, but fitting awkwardly in her lap. Maria just let you go, knowing you would crash soon enough. And 30 minutes later you were asleep on the ground. Thor had come in to gift you surprise birthday cake flavored pop tarts but you asleep. So he left. Maria wasn't even able to greet him before he was marching back down the hall. He came back in, gently putting a small blanket on your back. Maria smiled. She finally felt how the rest of her colleagues did. She realized that they were all just big family. And they all love Y/n just like she does.
After Thor left again, Maria took a photo of her sleeping baby. She smiled and watched her sleep peacefully. Turning out the lights she left to go talk with her family right down the way.

2002
Eleanor Mae Black never would’ve thought life could be this good. God has given her the one thing she always wanted. True love.
She never would’ve thought moving to Las Vegas would change her life the way it had.
At the age of seven, she moved with her family to Las Vegas from New Orleans and one day as she was riding her bike she saw a boy maybe the same age as her, reading a book at the edge of the sidewalk.
Since she recently moved, she didn’t have many friends. She was rather lonely and she thought the boy was too so she slowly rode her bike towards him.
As she made it in front of him she noticed him tense a bit, “Hi. I’m Eleanor most people call me Mae”
The boy cowered a bit before he slowly looked up while pushing his glasses back in place. “I’m Spencer.”
She smiled at the bushy-haired boy. “Nice to meet you, Spencer. My family moved a few days ago from Louisiana and I notice you come to read outside sometimes.” She was met with silence but he nodded his head acknowledging her observation. “What are you doing reading out here?”
He seemed like he was contemplating leaving before she could do anything to him. ‘She looks nice though.’  His mind yelled at him to leave, but something in his heart told him to stay.
He took a soft breath in, “My mom said I should get some sun. She told me I was too pale and that if I’m going to read at least go outside.”
She nodded and then pointed at the big book he was reading. There was no way she was even close to reading at his level. “What are you reading?”
He showed her the cover, “Lord of the Flies. It’s this book about a group of boys deserted on an island and left to fend for themselves.”
He thought she would call him a nerd and then leave like they all did, but to his surprise, she sat down next to him.
“Read to me?”
From that day forward, they were always together. Though it was a bit difficult when he went off to college in California when she was still in middle school they still made it work. Phone calls and letters were their saving grace.
He finally mustered the confidence to ask her out when they were both 15 with a series of letters. He would travel back as much as he could to see her and they would talk every day until on her 18th birthday he popped the question which is how they ended up at this very moment.
Eleanor could hear the ruckus outside the church as she was getting ready with her bridesmaids. Everything was running so smoothly. The sun was shining, the local florist gifted her the prettiest bouquet she’s ever seen, and the town seemed to gather around to celebrate their residential genius and the town’s sunshine.
“Let’s put the veil on.” Her maid of honor squealed as her sister was jumping up at down.
She couldn’t help tears flooding her eyes. It was almost time. She couldn’t wait to see Spencer in his tuxedo at the end of the aisle. She’s been ready for this moment since the second he started reading the Lord of the Flies to her that day.
She turned away from the mirror her smile growing bigger by the second. Anyone and everyone could tell how happy she was. How in love she was. She was radiating everything she was feeling and nobody could help but match her smile. “I’m getting married!” She yelled as the girls screamed in excitement.
“Ladies you all look absolutely radiant.” They turned to see the best man, Ethan. He was Spencer’s closest friend, and though they competed in everything he couldn’t miss the chance to see his friend happy with the girl he loved.” Mae, you look stunning. Honestly, Spencer is so lucky to have you.”
She couldn’t help but smile at her future husband’s name, “Thank you and who knows maybe soon you and my sister can tie the knot.” She smirked as both he and her sister blushed.
“Maybe if we wait long enough for your kid, she can be the flower girl.” He joked making her lightly shove him. He then looked at her sister and cousin before motioning them outside. “Lena, Marissa. Can I talk to you guys for a second?”
The two girls nodded. “Of course.” Her sister turned to Jazz, Mae’s best friend.” Jazz, can you just touch up her lipstick? Just a little more color.”
Jazz softly pushed her friend into her chair to put the lipstick on. For some reason, Mae’s eyes seemed to wander toward her group of friends outside. “Do you think everything’s okay?”
Jazz rolled her eyes at her friend puckering her lips, “Oh yeah. Honey, everything’s fine. This is your special day. Knowing Spencer he probably didn’t want to gel back his hair.”
Mae chuckled thinking about the conversation she had with Spencer about his hair. She swore she didn’t care about how he wore it as long as he was happy, but Spencer told her he would gel it back for her.
She still couldn’t look away from people outside. Her sister looked back at her before looking away as quickly as possible. For some reason, Mae’s heart dropped. After some time her sister walked back towards her.
The look on Lena’s face did not ease Mae’s worries at all. “Lena, what is it?” Her mind went to her fiancee. “Is Spencer okay?”
A hint of anger flared in Lena’s eyes, “Spencer’s fine.” For some reason, Mae still didn’t feel any relief. “He’s fine. He’s just...” Lena could already feel her little sister’s heartbreaking right before her eyes. “He’s not coming. Mae...I’m so sorry.”
The words struck her like a bolt of lightning, and for a moment, the world seemed to spin around her. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring the reflection of the radiant bride in the mirror. She clutched her bouquet tightly, desperately hoping that this was all a terrible mistake.
"What?" Mae managed to whisper, her voice trembling with pain.
Lena’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears, and she gently took Mae's hand in hers. “ I'm so sorry. We’re here for you. We will always be here for you."
A torrent of emotions overwhelmed her—a mixture of anger, sadness, and disbelief. She had thought they were inseparable, that their love was unbreakable. But now, all she was left with was a shattered heart and a wedding dress that felt like a heavy burden.
The bridesmaid tried to console her, but Mae's world had collapsed around her, and nothing could ease the pain she felt at that moment. Every plan they had made, every dream they had shared, had evaporated into thin air. She was supposed to move with him to Virginia for him to start his FBI training. She was ready to start a new life with him.
As her loved ones gathered around her, offering comfort and support, Mae felt like a ghost, disconnected from her own wedding day. She wanted to disappear, to escape the cruel reality that had replaced her fairytale.
Present Day (Six years later)
Something was bothering Spencer. It was something he couldn’t shake away. His nightmares seemed weirdly real as if they were a memory. The case of Riley Jenkins wasn’t making any sense except for the fact that his parents were somehow involved hence why he’s currently paying a visit to his mother.
The receptionist told him she was currently with some visitors which made him a bit concerned. As he walked in he could see a woman and a little girl sitting with his mother. The little girl seemed to be drawing as his mother seemingly was laughing at something the lady was saying. As he got closer he started recognizing the lady’s voice.
“Crash?” His mom called out shocked. The lady seemed to freeze. The little girl was swinging her feet still drawing.
“Sorry to interrupt. Hi Mom.” He said before giving her a quick kiss on the cheek and then standing up not knowing what to do.
“I thought you were on  your way back to Virginia?” Diana was looking between Eleanor and Spencer.
He still couldn’t see Mae’s face as she was still not looking up at him. He coughed, Um yeah. There was something that wouldn’t get out of my head so I came back.”
Eleanor couldn’t believe it. She didn’t want to believe that after all these years there he was. The one who she was supposed to marry. The love of her life. The father of her child was just standing right next to her after six long years.
The second Diana said his nickname, she froze. How could she not? He wasn’t supposed to be there. She specifically planned her visiting day until after he left. Though her body was frozen her mind was going all over the place.
The room was filled with noise but it sounded distant in her ears. The three of them were all still until Eleanor abruptly got up quickly. “Pres let’s go. Say your goodbyes.”
She gave Diana a quick hug and quickly shoved Presley’s coloring book and crayons into her bag. Spencer Reid, still staring at the scene in front of him.”We will visit you soon, Diana okay? Call if you need anything.” As she turned towards the hallway, she realized someone was blocking it. She looked up and after six years she was staring right at the man who left her on her wedding day. “Excuse us.” She moved around him quickly pulling Presley towards the exit.
After a few moments, Spencer finally broke out of his trance and sat down in front of his mother who was staring at him the whole time. “I didn’t know you still spoke to her. Let alone her visit you.”
His mother blinked a few times before nodding, “She visits almost every day. She and Presley. They bring me pie.” She explained then pointed towards the container of pie she had in front of her. “I usually tell her when you’re visiting and she well...you know.”
He nods understanding completely. He left her stranded on their wedding day. Of course, she would try to avoid him as much as possible. After almost six years of dating, he left her as if she were nothing. But she wasn’t nothing she was everything. She was his everything. Which is why he had to leave. She couldn’t leave everything behind for him. He didn’t deserve her sacrifice.
Then he remembered the little girl drawing, “And the girl...she’s Mae’s?” His mother seemed to want to disappear.
“Presley...yes.” As she started seeing his mind start to draw conclusions she questioned, “I know you didn’t come here just to say hi. What’s on your mind?”
And though he knew that his mother was changing the topic, the topic of Mae had to wait. He has to finish this case before he gets to a new one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been a few days on the case and as day goes on it seems like his parents had been a lot more involved than he wanted to admit.
“Hey, man. Come on we just woke up. Let’s get coffee before you start to get lost in your head. I think we’re about to pass a cafe.” Reid flinched as Morgan pulled him out of his thoughts. He nodded before staring out of the window. Though time has passed, everything seemed to be the exact same. Even the coffee shop Derek stopped in front of was the same.
The doorbell dinged as the three men walked through, and the smell of coffee hit their noses. They all sat at a booth waiting for the waitress to come and take their order.
After a few a familiar voice rang, “Good morning gentlemen what would you like to or--Spencer?”
The men looked up, and though Morgan was confused, Reid immediately tensed up knowing who it was.
“Lena...it’s nice to see you again.” He awkwardly smiled, not knowing if the lady heard of his return. Even if she did, he knew she wouldn’t have liked it.
“Wish I could say the same...” She then looked down at her notepad and back up at the two men in front of her. “What do you guys want?”
Morgan not liking how she was treating his friend raised his eyebrow, “The attitude is definitely not making me want to leave you a tip. So why don’t you change the attitude and try that again?”
Lena laughed before shoving the notepad in the pocket of her apron and getting in Morgan’s face. “And you think I need your tip, sir? I really don’t need money from a jackass and his little friends. Thank you very much.” She then went into the kitchen.
Before Morgan nor Rossi could ask, a man was walking towards them. He gave them a tight smile before pulling out a notepad and pen, “Sorry about Lena, she’s well, you know. Do you guys know what you want to order?”
Rossi nodded, “Could I get a dark coffee a little bit of cream and two spoonfuls of sugar, and a blueberry muffin.”
Morgan rolled his eyes, “I want an apology. She was rude and called me little. I’m anything but little.”
Ethan gave the guys a look, “Yeah, no-can-do. Anything else?” After some back and forth between Reid and Morgan, he finally let it go and gave Ethan his order. As the group received their food, the doorbell dinged again.
A light pair of footsteps filled the semi-quiet cafe. “Uncle Ethan!”
“Pres!” Ethan quickly placed the food and drinks down before kneeling and picking up his niece. “How are you, kiddo? Where’s your momma? ”
The little girl squealed as her uncle swings her around a bit, and then bell dinged again, “I swear on my life Ethan Alexander you drop her, I’ll shove ice down your pants again.”
“Um, excuse me, can I get some more milk, please?” The three of them snapped their heads toward the three men in the booths. Rossi didn’t realize that it wasn’t a  bright idea to have their attention on them well on one specifically.
Not wanting to leave Eleanor alone but having to he nodded and quickly left towards the kitchen after Eleanor gave him the okay. Spencer could see Eleanor sitting the little girl on the stool. His eyes didn’t leave them.
“Pretty boy, did you find yourself a pretty girl so soon? Was it love at first sight?” Morgan joked as he took a bite of his sandwich, not realizing the depth of his words.
Ethan came out and gave Rossi the milk before standing in front of Eleanor and Presley with Lena by his side. Lena and Ethan seemed to be staring at Reid quite a lot, and it doesn’t go unnoticed by Morgan who not understanding what was happening was getting quite annoyed by the servers.
“Yo, are you guys done staring at us?” he then looked straight at Lena, “Are you back to finally apologize?
Lena was already a few seconds away from exploding. “I’m not the one who needs to apologize. Right, Spencer?”
Morgan looked back at his friend raising his eyebrows. “Leave it, Morgan.”
Ethan walked up to the booth, “You don’t need to pay. It’s on the house. I’m sorry.” He then quickly pulled Lena back into the kitchen.
Reid stared at Eleanor, who was trying to wipe some juice that Presley spilled. He then decided enough was enough and stepped out of the booth towards the two girls.
As Eleanor finished cleaning, she heard someone clear their throat. She looked up and tensed up before looking at her daughter, who was also staring at the man. It felt like they were staring into each other’s eyes forever.”Can we talk?” He asked, noticing her slightly flinch. “...please?”
She looked behind him towards the two men who tried looking away when she turned her attention towards them. She nodded before getting the attention of the little girl staring at Spencer. “Hey sunshine why don’t you go to Aunt Lena okay? Ask her for the cupcake she promised you.”
Presley didn’t have to be told twice and immediately ran towards the kitchen. They had about three minutes before Lena realized why she made Presley go inside and raise havoc.
“She’s a cute one. I’m assuming she’s yours?” He asked, looking at her while she stared at her feet. Of course, she was hers. They looked identical except for the brown curly hair.
Eleanor coughed but nodded nonetheless.”Presley. And yes, she is. She’s my little sunshine..”
He nodded, not knowing what to say. “So, what did you want to talk about?” She crossed her arms, looking at him straight in the face.
He could tell the anger was quickly replacing the fear/shock she had. “I wanted to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything, Mae. I…You didn’t deserve it. You didn’t deserve anything I did to you.” He rambled.
“It’s Elie.” That was all she responded. He was taken aback. “People don’t call me Mae anymore. I stopped using that nickname after the incident.”
“Ellie.”He tried it out. The nickname sounded so foreign to him. “Well, Ellie. I wish we could talk somewhere a lot better under different circumstances, but I truly apologize. You deserve the world.” He then looked down at his hands. “And I couldn’t give it to you.”
Tears started building up; everything she kept hidden away for years was surfacing. All the pain, the tears, the anger. “I didn’t want the world, Spencer. I wanted you.” She wiped the tears that surprisingly fell. “Then you left. No letter. No phone call. Nothing,” She sighed, trying to ground herself. “ Look, Spencer, there’s really nothing to talk about, okay? You apologized. Good for you. Please leave it at that.”
He saw the sadness swirling in her eyes. He didn’t know how to make it better. He knew he couldn’t make it better because he caused it. He caused the pain in her eyes. The pounding in her heart. The knife in her back. He caused it all. “I..I–”
She didn’t let him continue, “Leave it, Spencer. It’s done. You ended it. I accepted it. We all moved on.”
Before anyone could say anything, the kitchen doors burst open with Presley’s face full of frosting and her holding two cupcakes giggling like a madman.
“PRESLEY DIANA BLACK, GET YOUR LITTLE BEHIND BACK HERE, OR ELSE YOU’LL NEVER GET ANY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE,” Lena yelled out, half serious and half-jokingly. Though it did seem like a cute moment, there was one minor problem. Spencer heard Presley’s middle name. The one that matches his mother’s name.
Time froze, and though Lena and Presley were still going at it, it felt really quiet. Spencer started piecing everything together, and Eleanor’s fight or flight instinct came in.
She grabbed her purse from the counter and quickly went to grab Presley’s hand, “Presley come here!” She had to leave. There was no time to waste. She didn’t even spare her sister a second and immediately dashed towards the door. Spencer’s body moved faster than his brain, and he grabbed onto her wrist, which made her instantly swing her palm at him hitting him square in the face. “No. Spencer…just no.
He rubbed the side of his face and kneeled towards the little girl, curiously looking between her mom and the man in front of her. “How old are you, Presley?”
And before Eleanor could stop her, she answered, “I’m five. I’m turning six soon.”
The revelation struck him like a lightning bolt. As the pieces of the puzzle fell into place,
Spencer's heart sank, and he felt an overwhelming mixture of regret and responsibility. This was his child. He not only left the love of his life stranded, he also left a child without their father. While he was trying to process it, the two slipped from his hold and fled.
He could hear Ethan pulling his wife again towards the kitchen to calm her down. He stayed in the same spot until his friends were clasping his back, making him flinch hard.
“I know it’s none of our business, but we should finish this case before you start that situation,” He heard Rossi say. Spencer knew that was true. He hated that it was true, but so be it. He didn’t say anything. He just headed towards the car, slamming the door shut. He had a daughter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the case finished, he finds himself in his hotel room with his friends, drinking a beer. Though he was never a fan of alcohol, it’s been the most stressful days of his life, and wasn’t even over.
“So what’s the deal with you and the girl at the cafe don’t you dare say nothing, pretty boy, because it seemed like you lived a different life before you got to us. So spill.” Morgan sat comfortably on the bed, motioning him to get going with the story.
He took a swing of his beer and blinked a bit, “I was supposed to get married to her. We had everything planned out.” That was definitely not what Rossi nor Morgan expected. Both looked at each other and then back at Spencer, who was looking at the ceiling. “We’ve been together since we were fifteen, and I asked her to be my wife at eighteen. It felt right. It always felt right with her.” He chuckled a bit. “She was actually supposed to move to Quantico with me. She was willing to leave her whole life here to be with me. She was always my biggest fan, you know. She cheered me on when I was in high school at twelve. When I went to Caltech. When I graduated from Caltech and so on and so on. She was always willing to give up anything to make me feel good. She loves her family and her friends here. I needed an escape. My parents were separated, my mom was suffering, and I couldn’t help her, I was bullied almost every day by anyone and everyone. I needed to escape, not her. She was happy here, and who was I to take that away from her? So cowardly, I decided to get a ticket to Virginia the week prior to when we were supposed to leave. I was planning on telling her before the day, but she was so happy. We were so happy.”
Tears were slowly running down his face, “The moment Lena texted me that she was looking absolutely radiant in her wedding dress, I snapped. I couldn’t have her leave with me. And I know if I voiced any of my concerns, she would find a way to still get on the train with me. So I decided that I needed to leave. Leave this place. Leave my family. Leave her. And to this day, it was the worst pain I ever felt. She didn’t deserve any of it. She was–still is the most beautiful human being. She was my first friend and my only lover.”
The guys weren’t expecting him to spring all that out. It was a shock to them both. Rossi then tilted his head, “And the little girl? Don’t tell me that child is yours?” Reid gave him a look and nodded. “No fucking way.”
“I messed up. I messed up a lot.” He cried as Morgan pulled him into a hug.
“Reid, but you’re here now, okay? You’re here. They’re here. Find them. Talk to them and explain everything. Yes, you were being a dumbass, but you deserve to get a chance to get to know your child.”
Reid has done a lot of things in life. He lived through a lot, and he wasn’t even thirty, but one of the main things he only ever wanted was to have a family with Eleanor. He loved her more than the sun loved the sky.
He nodded and immediately pulled his phone out, “Garcia, I need you to give me the address of Eleanor Mae Black, please.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day he finds himself standing in front of the address sent to him. A beautiful white house, excluding a charm that captures the heart at first sight. Its quaint appearance contrasts the glitz and glamour of the nearby city, providing a peaceful retreat from the bustling urban life. It was perfect, just like the girls residing there.
He felt like it was forever since he rang the doorbell until a light pair of footsteps ran towards the door and opened it. He was expecting it to be Eleanor, but he was met with the cutest little girl looking at him with a smile.
“You’re the man that my momma hit.” She smiled as if it were funny. He couldn’t help but chuckle a bit.
“You’re momma definitely knows how to smack the living daylights out of someone.” He then kneels down in front of her. “I’m Spencer Reid; nice to meet you.”
“I’m Presley Black.” Spencer smiled warmly as he gazed at the little girl, Presley. Her innocence and honesty were endearing.
 He shook her tiny hand gently, introducing himself once again. "It's very nice to meet you, Presley Black."
“Presley Diana Black, what have I told you about opening the door without grabbing me first?” She scolded before motioning her towards the kitchen. “Go, your breakfast is going to get cold.”
Presley giggled, her innocence evident, and obediently scurried to the kitchen. Eleanor turned her attention back to Spencer, her expression now more guarded. She wiped her hands on her pants and looked up. “What are you doing here, Spencer?
“Well, for obvious reasons, I think we need to talk.” He motioned to where Presley was once standing.
Though Eleanor never really wanted to have this discussion with him, she knew it was only a matter of time. She nodded before letting him come inside.
“I’m really going to need a glass of wine for this.” She muttered, walking into the kitchen with Spencer on her tail. Before he could say anything about drinking before 11am, he stood quiet at the doorway of the kitchen as Eleanor poured herself a glass of wine, and Presley added more syrup to her pancakes. It felt very domestic.
As Eleanor took a sip, she sighed,” Sunshine, you will literally be eating syrup with a side of pancakes.” Grabbing the syrup from her sticky hands and quickly wiping her. She then kneeled down, caressing her daughter’s face. “Why don’t you go to the living room and eat today? Watch some tv and just relax before I take you to Aunt Lena’s. Okay, darling?”
The little girl nodded happily before grabbing her plate and running towards the living room. Eleanor threw the wipe to the side, motioned Spencer to sit at the table, and grabbed her wine.
As he sat down, he started to twiddle his fingers. “She seems like a really great kid Mae. Really happy.”
She rolled her eyes at the nickname, taking a gulp of her cup, “She is really happy. No matter what happens, she always beams. My little sunshine.”
He couldn’t help but smile a bit.”I used to call you my little sunshine…always beaming.”Eleanor looked at him. “You still are.”
She finished her drink before staring at Spencer,” We’re not here to talk about me. You want to talk about Presley. What do you want to know?”
“She’s mine, right? I mean, she has to be.” He then looked down at his hands. “When did you find out.”
“About two weeks after our supposed wedding date.” She sighed, remembering how hard she cried that day. “I wanted to contact you, but you never responded to anyone’s texts or calls. So I gave up before I could get any more hurt.”
“"I'm sorry for leaving you at the altar," he continued softly. "I was stupid. So stupid, but that doesn't excuse the pain I caused you. I've carried the weight of that decision for years. And now, seeing you both here, I can't help but wonder about the time we lost and the choices I made." Eleanor's expression softened as she listened to him, and he could see the flicker of emotions in her eyes.
"It's been a long time, Spencer. A lot has happened since then," she said quietly. "It hurt a shut ton, I won’t lie. You were the love of my life Spencer. I would’ve done everything and anything for you. But we deserve better. We deserve better than someone who ultimately ends up leaving.” She sighed again before staring him straight in the eyes. “Presley deserves to know her father, but I need you to understand that being a part of her life is not something to take lightly. She's my world, and I won't let anything hurt her."
"I understand," he replied earnestly. "I want to get to know her, to be a part of her life, if you'll let me. I've learned a lot over the years and want to make things right." Eleanor studied his face for a moment, searching for sincerity, and seemed to find it. After a moment of contemplation, she nodded. "All right, Spencer. You get this one chance. But I swear on my life you leave her, and that’s the last thing you’ll ever do." Spencer nodded gratefully, feeling a mixture of relief and hope.
They sat in silence for a bit. Both trying to understand what just happened. He couldn’t help but look at her and still see the girl he fell in love with. She was just as breathtaking as ever, “So, how have you been?”
Eleanor gave him a soft laugh,” It’s been pretty good. Presley and I…we made a life for ourselves. We purchased the cafe a few years back with Ethan and Lena. I graduated from the University of Nevada two years ago. Been a nurse at the Summerlin Hospital since.”
He smiled at her.” I’m really proud of you, Eleanor Mae. Not many people can do what you did.”
She nodded before pouring herself another cup of wine. “Well, all thanks to the gang and your mother. Ethan, Jazz, and Lena were amazing. Helped out with Presley without a single complaint. So was your mom. Diana was there every step of the way.”
“She didn’t tell me anything about you or Presley. It honestly amazes me she was able to hold onto that for so many years.” He chuckled.
“Diana’s very sneaky. One of the many things I love about her.”
“You named her after my mother…thank you” She sipped again before smiling.
“Diana is a beautiful human being. The best of all of us. It was an honor naming that little girl like the woman I always admired.” Silence took place again.“So when do you leave? I’m assuming you’ll have to go back to Virginia soon?”
He nodded, “Yeah, it seems I extended my stay a bit too long.” He scratched the back of his neck before asking, “Would you like to come with me?” Eleanor’s eyes were about to pop out of her head.”You and Presley. I want to get to know her and would love to stay longer, but I used a lot of my sick days to work on this case here. And it’s the summer, so Presley is not in school, and I know you wouldn’t want to leave Presley alone with me, which I totally understand, and–”
“I can’t just drop everything to go with you, Spencer. Maybe all those years ago, yes, but right now? I’m sorry, Spencer; maybe we can work something else out.” He knew it was far-fetched, but he needed to try.
“How about a week every month you come to Virginia, and I come back here?” He was pleading really hard, and she knew that.
“Spencer, your line of work takes you everywhere. I don’t expect you to be able to always visit Presley.”
“Then how can we make it work? I need to get to know her. She’s also my child Eleanor. We need to make something work here, and I’m trying.” Eleanor couldn't help but admire Spencer's determination and sincere desire to be a part of Presley's life.
She knew he was right – Presley deserved to know her father, and they needed to find a way to make it work.
As she gazed at him, she saw the same young man she fell in love with all those years ago, and a part of her heart softened. "I know it's complicated," she said, her voice filled with vulnerability and hope. "Presley is my priority, and I won't let anything disrupt her life. But I also want her to have a relationship with her father." Spencer nodded, understanding the weight of the situation.
"I respect that, Mae. I promise I'll never push you or Presley into something you're uncomfortable with. I just want a chance to be a part of her life, to be her dad." Eleanor took a deep breath, contemplating the possibilities.
"Okay, let's try the week-every-month arrangement," she said, surprising herself with her openness to the idea. "Presley deserves to know you, and I think this could be a good way to start."
Spencer's face lit up with gratitude, and he couldn't hide the excitement in his voice. "Thank you, Eleanor. You don't know how much this means to me."
"We'll take it one step at a time," she replied, trying to remain pragmatic. "Presley is a bright and curious little girl, and she'll need time to get to know you too."
"I understand," Spencer said, a mix of emotions coursing through him – joy, anticipation, and nervousness. "I promise to be patient and respect your boundaries. I just want to build a relationship with my daughter." Eleanor smiled warmly at him, her heart softening even more.
"Then let's make this work, for Presley's sake."
Over the next few days, Spencer spent time getting to know Presley. They went to the park together, played games, and shared stories. Presley's eyes sparkled with happiness, and Eleanor couldn't help but see the resemblance between father and daughter.
Spencer was genuinely interested in Presley's life and eagerly listened to every detail she shared. As the week came to an end, Spencer prepared to return to Virginia, but his heart felt heavier than he expected. Saying goodbye to Presley was harder than he imagined, but he knew this was the beginning of their journey together.
“But why do you have to go, Spencer?” Presley’s bottom lip quivered. Though she is starting to accept Spencer as her father, she still refers to him by his name. It made Spencer sad, but he completely understood why.
He kneeled down, dropping his bags next to him, “Sunshine, I have to go back to work, but I promise I’ll bring you back something cool, okay?” Presley launched herself at him hugging him really hard. Spencer’s heart leaped from his chest as he wrapped his arms tighter around her. He never felt a love like this. Spencer Reid is wrapped around her little finger, and he’s completely okay with it.l “I’ll be back before you know it, okay?” Presley nodded, letting go of him. He stood up and then turned to Eleanor. He gave a smile before turning to walk away.
“Hey, Spence?” Eleanor hugged him tightly before he could even realize what was happening. "Thank you for coming into our lives, Spencer. I'm glad Presley has a chance to know her father." He smiled, holding back tears.
"And I'm grateful for this opportunity. I promise I'll be back in a month, and we'll create more memories together." As Spencer walked away, Eleanor watched him with a mix of emotions. It was a whirlwind of a few weeks, and she knew there would be challenges ahead, but she was willing to take the risk for Presley's happiness.
And on top of that, somehow and someway, Eleanor’s heart still fluttered whenever Spencer Reid was around.
Hello! I hope this isn’t a bad time, but could I request a short fic of Yuna and Milo? Like they’re just having some mom and daughter time :3 oooo, maybe they went to get food for Milo’s birthday since it is coming up?
If you decide to do this (please don’t if you don’t want to) you can do any au you’d like
ILY(/p) SAFFRON, BYEE! ♥️
Of course (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ Sorry for the late reply btw. I was out all day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~¶~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
Milo, my little angel.
Modern au, no ships. Biological!GiYuLo au.
Fluff.
P.s Happy birthday Milo!!
Today's the most important day of the year. Well, at least to Yuna it is.
Milo will be turning fifteen today! Yuna couldn't believe how quickly the years passed. Just yesterday Milo was a little ball of energy, waddling around adorably, being their little bundle of happiness.
They already celebrated her birthday a week in advance, since Giyuu had to travel for an exchange program between schools. Milo was already content with the celebration, but Yuna wanted to give her a few more surprises.
Yuna had a plan, but she had to wait for Milo to leave before she could execute it. Milo planned to go out with her friend group today, and Yuna was going to take advantage of that.
''Mum! I'll be heading out now! I promised to meet up with the others at the station. See you later! Love you!''
''Love you too angel! Don't be late, it's a school night!''
Yuna knew she didn't need to remind her, Milo was responsible enough to meet curfew, but she couldn't help herself. She was unable to stop herself from being extra careful. She didn't want to take any chances. The surprise must be perfect!
Yuna heard the front door close with a soft thud, before getting to work. She opened her closet, revealing the hidden gifts. She had ordered some fake roses for Milo to decorate her room with, a new flowy knee-length violet dress and a white brooch she noticed Milo eyeing at the store.
A little thing about Yuna is that she loves to spoil her daughter, like her husband. She got into the habit of buying at least two gifts for Milo on her birthday, being influenced by Giyuu's gifting habits. This year she had to compromise though, given the circumstances. She gave Milo one present during the early party, and will be gifting the rest to her tonight.
The order did arrive late, but fortunately made it in time. Yuna was relieved when it arrived last night, calming her tense nerves.
She specifically disliked ordering online due to it's unexpected timings, but she had to rely on it this time, and she's fortunate enough for it not to let her down.
She spread the gifts out on her bed, admiring her taste in gifts. Soon, she started feeling like enough time was wasted, and gathered everything to place the gifts neatly inside a box with white and lavender wrapping.
With that part of her surprise done, she went onto the next part of the plan.
Now, Yuna doesn't know what's gotten into her, but she forgot to order the snacks. She planned to enjoy a movie with some snacks tonight, but she somehow overlooked the latter, and only just noticed. She did her best to be positive, feeling like getting herself down would only waste time. She threw on a quick outfit, leaving for the nearest store.
''I need to hurry up. I still have to prep the living room, putting out comfortable pillows and warm blankets. I checked with Milo, she said she'd have lunch with her friends, so that relieves me of making proper lunch. I can just heat up some leftovers, it's high time they're eaten before they go bad'' She got her thoughts organized on her way to the store, while pulling out her shopping list, looking through things she needed.
~Timeskip to when she's back home, almost done with her to do list~
''The sun's setting already? Milo should be home anytime soon, gotta put the last touches before turning the lights off.''
Yuna wraps up any leftover work, putting the dried dishes away, and taking the roses out, and placing them on the table. She fixes herself up a bit, going in for a quick shower, safely assuming Milo wouldn't turn up for another thirty minutes at the very least.
Little did she know, Milo decided to return home early. Her mother emphasized her curfew, so she decided to turn up early just in case. She tried to give her mother a call, but there was no response, so she decided to ask her about it when she got back. Milo always kept a spare key with her, since her father insisted.
The apartment was dark and the lights were off, so Milo thought that may be her mother turned in early, or went out to buy something. She walked further in to see the kitchen illuminated, going to investigate, she found a decently sized bouquet of roses sitting on the table. Milo didn't expect to see it, but she did love roses, so she picked up one of them, taking a whiff of it's fragrant aroma. She knew they were fake, but she couldn't help but admire their beauty.
''MILO!?''
''Mum! You're here!''
Yuna didn't foresee this, but she decided to just go along with her original plan, but a little improvised.
''Happy birthday, my little angel...''
She embraced her daughter, smiling joyfully, greatful for her daughter's happiness and health. Milo returned the embrace, feeling tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill.
''Thank you... I'm truly grateful to have you mum!''
Sorry it's kinda late and rushed, I was out all day, and organizing my thoughts was pretty hard. I hope there aren't too many errors.
''Me too Milo, me too!'' Yuna leads Milo to the living room, which was left without lights, since Milo decided that she didn't want to turn them on only to forget them.
What meets Milo's eyes is exactly what she needed after such a long and tiring, yet fun, day.
The sofa was littered with the softest pillows they owned, and her favorite blanket, suitable for the chilly weather. Milo went over to huddle up with her mother on there, smiling giddily at how fluffy everything was.
''What's on for tonight?''
''A movie chosen by the birthday girl, and a mountain of snacks.''
''Ooo! I actually saw this one movie about demons and a main character with a tragic backstory, who's mission is to take them down to save his sister!''
''That movie's a small continuation of the series. The series is till ongoing with three seasons. I don't mind marathoning it with you though! You up for it?''
''Mhm! Definitely!''
They start the first episode, with barely ten minutes in, but Milo's already balling her eyes out.
''T-tanjiro deserved better! He's such a nice character! Why d-did this have to happen to himmm.''
Yuna, also a little moved by the tragedy, but mainly by the effects and graphics, pats her daughter's back reassuringly.
They go through the first season by midnight, and Milo starts dozing off.
''Did you have fun sweetie?''
''Yes, mum. I...-'' a yawn involuntarily interrupts her speech, which leads her to change what she intended to say. ''-should probably turn in and call it a day. The characters were all amazing, but eerily familiar. It was great though.''
''That's a relief then...''
Yuna picks up her daughter, thanking her workout while carrying her to bed, tucking her in and making sure she's comfortable. She reaches out to caress her daughter's cheek, eyes overflowing with warmth.
''No matter how old you grow up to be, you'll always be my dear daughter.''
She places a soft kiss to her forehead, brushing her soft hair off of her face, with great care and gentleness.
''Sleep tight, Milo. My little angel.''
I really hope you like it Kim. I didn't proof read this, because I wanted it to be out as soon as I finished it. Sorry if it's a bit ooc, I'm not the best at character analysis (-_-;)
I'll tag @larz-barz here, because this was the only thing I was able to do for Milo special day, sorry bout that.
Thanks for requesting this Kim, I didn't know what to do for Milo's bday.

1 - Talk about someone who changed your life.
Okay. I took far too long to think about this. Since we're all in a post 6x6 and TTPD era, here's a vulnerable, tortured answer.
I had a very close friend for several years. My husband and I were very close to her and her husband. Our kids were friends. We went to the same church, all loved to travel, had similar interests and tastes, had all lived internationally, went on double dates, etc. We even considered having them raise our kids if my husband and I both passed away. In sum, we were super close.
Then COVID hit. As a doctor COVID was difficult. I struggled a lot because I was taking care of sick patients. I recall one tearful day of talking to a pregnant mom who was about to be transferred to the ICU and was saying goodbye to her other children. It really wasn't safe or comfortable to go to work for a long time. I wasn't really dealing with it well, especially with the people around me treating it like it didn't matter. I was really depressed for the first time in my life.
This friend didn't understand that or if she did, she didn't care. So, when I said I wasn't interested in going out in public and having any type of birthday celebration for my birthday (who wants to celebrate turning 41 anyway?), she started attacking me on a personal level. I was already in a dark place and instead of being a good friend and supporting me, she just keep sending me hateful messages.
That was the first and only time in my life I considered suicide. I reached out for help and got it. I wasn't in that dark pit for a long time. I'm much better now. I mostly have my sister to thank for that.
I brought her flowers for Valentine's Day with an apology note a few weeks after that. She never apologized. I brought treats to her a few weeks after that with an apology note explaining why I felt so hurt. I tried to call to explain how I felt so that I could heal. She never answered the phone.
I'm still not sure what I have to apologize for or why she never seemed to accept or offer an apology. But that was two years ago. We still don't talk. Our husbands don't talk. Our kids don't play together anymore. For a long time, I didn't like going to church because I knew I'd have to see her.
Most of that is better now. I'm just sad for a lost friendship and for the dark place I had to crawl out of.
I've used a slight modification of her name for a character in one of my stories who betrayed Lucy. I thought that might be therapeutic, but it just brought the situation up to the surface again.
Uhhh... I can't believe I just wrote all of that. I'll try to keep the rest of the answers a bit lighter.
2 - Talk about something you really want to do.
I LOVE to travel. I've been to 47 states and 16 countries. My husband and I had all of our plans in place to get to all 50 states before we turned 40. Then COVID hit and all of our plans were dashed when travel shut down. We're going at a slower pace now, but we're getting close to it. #48 (NM) in October, #49 (HI) July 2025 as a 20th anniversary trip, and #50 (AK) the summer of 2026.
11 - Share something you're proud of.
According to AO3's stats, I've posted over 339k words since I started posting 7 months ago (plus another 9-10k chapter I hope to finish tonight). I know there are those that blow me out of the water (Ahem, ahem @girlintotv and @centralperkchenford) with their numbers, but I'm pretty proud of that as a first-time writer and working mom with 4 young kids.
20 - Share with us a random fact or two.
I'm afraid I've already overshared. *yikes* But here we go.
I'm the oldest of 6 kids. The first 4 of us are all 23 months apart, then 27 months apart, and 25 months apart. So, we're essentially every 2 years for 10 years with all of our birthdays clustered together. 3 boys and 3 girls.
I had the chicken pox for my eighth birthday. My grandparents came to visit for my birthday, but they were afraid of getting shingles. So, I had to stay in my bedroom on the second floor, and they stayed on the first floor for the whole time they were visiting. I still remember standing in the hallway near the dining room while they sang happy birthday. One of my siblings blew out the candles for me and my mom brought me a piece of cake in the hallway. (Man, I'm still rocking those depressing TTPD vibes, aren't I?) I was officially not contagious the day my mom came home from the hospital with baby #5 in our family, and I remember being so excited to be healthy enough to hold my baby brother.
Sheesh. Now you probably won't ever ask me anything again. Between TTPD, 6x6, and the angst I'm supposed to be writing right now, I'm coming up with some strange answers.
Sorry to be the Eeyore in the crowd. Thanks for asking me to play though.
Ask game

CHAPTER 1011 spoilers
I'm back after two weeks of having stupid painful eyesore! Still not fully healed but lasik generally takes a while to heal, oh well... into the SPOILERS!
🌟The chapter's title is "Dear bonney", it's a reference to the letters Kuma has been sending to lil Bonney, but what about those letters? Are they important? Welp, let's see the rest of the spoilers and we'll understand more
🌟colorspread contains all the vegapunks!
🌟so, the chapter starts with A flashback INSIDE the flashback, with Kuma remembering how once he and Dragon were on goa and Kuma curiously asks Dragon abot why he knows a lot about Goa, and why does he always keep his eyes on one boy (the boy of course being our precious luffy)
🌟Dragon sternly answers "keep talking if you wanna die" (this might be a mistranslation since i heard somewhere else he said "if you want to kill me then keep talking" maybe as a way to show that the topic Kuma was talking about is too sensitive and dangerous Dragon) and honestly this felt so out of character for dragon to say to his comrade like...
Tumblr media
Isn't he already on your team?
🌟Dragon drops s hot line to clear his "fraud dad" allegations and says "a child is a parent's weakness", strong enough that poor Kuma apologized and stopped talking
🌟mini flashback ends with Kuma entering mount Kolumbo and observes a 16 years old luffy practicing. He gets a call on his den den mushi and luffy ends up hearing it ring, and before he tries to check, we find that Kuma has already left. Luffy just shrugs it off as some very strong animal and continues on his shenanigans
🌟 the call was frim the world government about a merchant ship getting attacked by pirates. So basically they told him to give those pirates hell because that's basically his job as a warlord
🌟throughout the chapter kuma is writing bonney letters, he is narrating them and talks about how much he loves her, how much he cares for her and all the great and amazing things he saw while traveling and how bad he wants to travel with her.
Tumblr media
h-he's so pure, my god he's such a gentle daddy! GOD ODA STOP GIVING YOUR TOUGHEST BATTLES TO YOUR MOST LOVING DADS/MOMS
🌟 however unfortunately for our favorite bearguy priest, his letters never reached Bonney since the nurse lady alpha, would get rid of them so Bonney won't read them because well... duh they might contain some sensitive info, and since they're trying to make this whole ordeal a secret away from bonney, she makes sure no letters arrive.
🌟Luckily, Bonney has queen connie on her side, and her being the amazing granny she is she tells bonney not to show her abilities to any of the cipher pol agents, saying that "a smart hawk must always hide it's claws!"
🌟 Kuma visits Vegapunk's lab for more pacifista stuff and meets stussy (the clone that was made three years ago) and she sarcastically tells him "i wonder who's more unfortunate, a human with no consciousness or a clone with consciousness" Vegapunk (now with the apple head) reprimands her and tells her that she's indeed a human...
But like
Tumblr media
CUT MY MAN KUMA SOME FUCKING SLACK!!! Y'ALL BETTER START TREATING HIM RIGHT!!!!
🌟 Vegapunk explains to Kuma that his transformation will be complete soon in one year, and until then he won't have a single emotion or thought left.
🌟 we see Kuma helping the revolutionary army, however he's a lot more silent now since he has reached a point where the modifications have become a lot more radical. Dragon and the others sense that something isn't right with Kuma
🌟we go back to sorbet island where Bonney is celebrating her ninth birthday, she still didn't receive a single letter from the ones Kuma had sent her. Bonney is now 100% healed but Alpha won't let her out until she reaches her 10th birthday since that's what the deal with Kuma was about
🌟 however our precious and beautiful Qweenie, granny connie, tells Bonney that she heard from a local town bar that alpha and her "staff" aren't actually medical staff and are in fact world government agents. They realize how bad is the situation and the people of Sorbet as well as Connie prepare for Bonney's escape. They bring a pizza themed ship, Gyogyo, poteto and Totsu (the three guys we always see in Bonney's crew) embark with her to go find Kuma, and Connie switch clothes with Bonney.
🌟 however, alpha and her team find out about this and follow bonney. Alpha is using geppou and threatens bonney that if she doesn't come back she will beat her up and lock her up (way to be such a scum to beat a child)!
🌟 just then, Bonney imagines one of the instances where Kuma talks to her about Nika and she asks him what he looks like and he tells her he doesn't really know but his body is rubbery.
🌟 bonney uses her toshi toshi ability and warps herself into Nika, delivering a FAT punch right to the jaw of Alpha (that looked like a really painful punch in the panel)
AAAAAAAND that's all folks!

Do any of the pack members besides m/c and yoongi have contact with their families/parents/siblings? Do they have good relationships with them?
i think they have varying degree of contact between their families, hobi and his parents had a falling out during his time with his last pack- partially orchestrated by them i think tbh, it's kinda hinted at in the last chapter but i bet he calls his parents like 2-3 times a year.
i think jk and his parents probably call every few days, he probably hops on a train to go see them once or twice a month. but since they know he's well taken care of they kinda have a bit more of a lax parenting style with him, they've definitly heard a fuck ton about the m/c at this point. and i bet jin calls them whenever jk has a seizure and gets him on the phone with them just so that they know he's safe. i don't think they'd meet the m/c until like- christmas time or so- idk i love the idea of them being very accepting of jk's big ass pack being a small couple that they where. i think jk's alpha parent is like- super fucking mello mostly because one of his parents was a beta and because of that he and yoongi have always vibed.
Namjoon does keep in contact with his family- as i've mentioned before- he came from an absolutely massive like small town sized pack. i'm thinking the pack was 4 omegas and 4 alphas that all kinda raised their kids/fucked until they wheren't quite sure who belonged to who.
Namjoon's biological omega mother is dead though- i'm thinking she got a concussion and just...never woke up. i don't think namjoon ever talks about it but i think he was probably the one who found her, which is why he decided he wanted to go into medicine in the first place.
His parents are also kinda like the definition of hippies- like the'd be more likely to apply mud to a cut then put a bandaid on it. like in my mind they probably have nudeweeks and go out and commune with nature and do mushrooms a fuck ton. they're not exactly the same type of people and because of that namjoon moved a great distance away. the pack proably all travels to meet them at one point for namjooon's pack alpha's 60th birthday or something- but jin and yoongi probably met them all shortly after meeting. i bet yoongi embraced the lifestyle a little too much and they where all glad to go back home after a crazy weekend.
Namjoon probably has upwards of 10 or so siblings, he checks in on the omega ones more often than the alpha ones (the alpha ones where always a little bit more competitive with namjoon in my mind) in my head he probably has a little omega brother he helped through college a little bit, maybe a tad bit financially and more with the studying. i get the idea of jin and yoongi dropping them off meals every few weeks or during finals- just being cute and looking after them.
as it's already mentioned tae and jimin's families disowned them, however i do think that tae's mom tries to reconnect with her a few years down the line shortly after she and the m/c have their first pup. probably on accident like- running into tae and the m/c while they're at the grocery store. And tae makes a split second decision not to allow them to meet. there would be something in tae that didn't get it until that moment- but now she does because she'd do anything for the m/c's little pup- for any of the packs pups- she'd rather die than let any of them be treated the way her mother treated her. And tae decides that she has all the family she'll ever need- that her mother doesn't get to know her pups.
one of the reasons why i don't mention their families alot in bily is because it would just get way way way too complicated and long, but thank you for asking about it!

We made an official deal / plan on our cafe date 🫶🏽
We are TTC this summer as soon as I get my results from the allergy test and moving to Miami after Thanksgiving 🙏🏽
I’m going to tell my Mimi on her birthday - March 9th. She is going to be so happy and I can’t wait to see her face. I just told her last week that us moving back wasn’t going to happen because Kevin didn’t want to rent. But when I told K that I didn’t want to have more kids without my family nearby, he said he would rather rent + have another baby than build a meditation center right now.
I don’t know how I didn’t realize it before - how much it means to me to have my family with me for my next pregnancy + delivery. It feels like such a relief. I can’t convey how sad it made me to be apart from my family for most of my pregnancy. The heartbreak I felt that my family had to fly across the country when my daughter was nearly 2 months old and only got to see her for 5 days. My parents don’t have the flexibility to stay with me in NY for a month. My Mimi is too old and her husband is even older; he refuses to fly anymore. She can’t leave him because he freaks out that he’s going to die and she won’t be there.
My dad won’t fly anywhere — he has extreme anxiety.
My mom is single and lives paycheck to paycheck almost — she can’t be gone from work for very long.
Kevin’s parents are on sabbatical half the year (his mom is a tenured professor) and work from home (his dad is a lawyer whose cases are now done online). They spend half the year traveling and can do whatever they want. They can come to us, no problem.
I hated the city where I was born for so long but after traveling so much, I realize nowhere is perfect. But home is home.
I think when Sky is 5 and ready to officially enroll in Kindergarten, we will likely move back to NY. But we shall see! For now I’m just really excited for 2024 🙏🏽
