TC tag game
Thank you for tagging me, @renaultphile!
Rules: Answer the questions and tag other TC fans!
1. "He would not fucking say that" only they did and it's canon. When/who?
"Look, my dear, we've had all this in principle. Let's be sensible when something concrete turns up. We knew this whole position before we'd even spoken to each other for the first time."
Now you're being an ass, Laurie!
2. Did they kiss in the study? Yes/no + why you are 100% correct about this.
The “no kiss” option suits the plot better, I guess; Ralph probably just caressed Laurie’s face.
But I don’t think the kiss alternative sounds unreasonable. We’re talking about a Mary Renault novel, after all.
3. Mandatory question about Ralph's alleged tattoos.
I can see Ralph having a (single) tattoo, but it would be located on a discreet place, so most people can't see it.
4. 53 vs 59 edition: quote a line or paragraph that is better in the edition you like the least.
I’m used to the 1959 edition, but I don't really have a clear preference. The 1953 edition’s extras bits are very interesting, particularly the ones concerning Laurie and Andrew's relationship:
Andrew looked straight at him. "I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep; it makes one a bit stupid. I only want to know that everything's all right." "Follow this carefully. It is. It always has been. And it will be, always, as far as I'm concerned. Is that good enough?" "You spoiled it, saying it always will be. That's not real." He smiled, but not soon enough.
5. Which TC character would feel right at home here on tumblr dot com?
Nurse Adrian, with her cottagecore blog.
6. Tag yourself at Alec's birthday party.
I'm this guy, of course:
Tumblr media
7. Post a TC meme.
Here it goes, I tried...
Tumblr media
8. Easy to talk about who deserved better. Who deserved worse?
Madge. She managed to get away with all the mess she created.
9. You can break the fourth wall (at any point in the novel) and say a single sentence to our protagonist, Laurie Odell. What do you say?
The obvious choice is "Stop patronizing Andrew". However, "Come clean with your mother about everything" is tempting, but I do recognize this could cost their relationship, particularly after Lucy married Mr. Straike.
10. What's a question you have about TC? One you haven't found an answer for yet.
How does Laurie keep attracting all these good-looking blonde guys?!
Tagging: @laisofhyccara @mademoiselle-red @eclare1000 No pressure, of course!

26-29- Ango’s epic plot armor (and other complaints)
————————————
Welcome back to the Anti-Dazai Series! I think I should just acknowledge that I have no posting schedule at this point. But the Anti-Dazai Series isn’t discontinued— it’s just taking me longer to create than I was hoping it would. Anyway. Onto a rundown of Dazai Crimes™ in these next four chapters.
————————————
When we last left off, Dazai said he now will get the government involved in this conflict. I sure hope he does this in a normal sensible way, like by explaining what’s going on to them and requesting backup, and not in a Dazai Way, which will most likely endanger people’s lives.
We now return to our protagonist, Atsushi.
After getting scolded (and slapped) by Dazai after the Q incident, Atsushi decides to stay in the agency’s headquarters rather than to go out and risk messing things up again. Kouyou is still being held there, and she asks if he’s here because he “commit[ed] some error that made [him] scamper away from the front lines.”
Upon hearing that question, he makes a face indicating that she’s right, and when she questions him further, he says “I… I was just trying to protect them all…” while having flashbacks to Naomi and Haruno being injured post-Q fight last chapter.
If Dazai had chosen something better to say other than “get over it” [the exact quote was mentioned in part 20-25, but it was something similar enough to that], Atsushi wouldn’t be feeling so useless right now. Because he did try his best, and there was nothing he could have done to avoid that outcome. The only person who can do anything about Q’s ability is Dazai, and Dazai was not there with Atsushi at the time to stop it from happening.
Of course, I’m into blaming him for not being there, but I am blaming him for not properly comforting Atsushi. The “tough love” approach clearly failed with Akutagawa, and even though he’s being a lot nicer to Atsushi, in that last Q scene we see him somewhat slip into a tough love approach again. And we see in this chapter that Atsushi is not handling it well, and is taking it quite hard.
Now back to Dazai. Let’s see how his government negotiations are going.
Seems like he’s meeting with his old friend Ango. I sure hope this doesn’t turn violent..—nope, he’s now pointing a gun at him unprovoked.
Well at least it can’t get any worse— ah wow it got worse. Dazai just staged a car crash. There is absolutely no way Ango survives this.
I’m gonna do something I’ve never done before on the Anti-Dazai Series and include a screenshot of the manga, because the amount of plot armor Ango will need to survive this is. a whole lot. I’d really like to elaborate on this scene, but I’m too busy being amazed that Ango survives this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is absolutely no way Ango survived that. If BSD didn’t use anime physics, Ango would be very, very dead.
There is a lack of Dazai for a bit, as Kyoka gets captured by the police, Q gets captured by Lovecraft, and Nathaniel abandons the Guild, pushing Francis to speed up their plan of attack.
But Dazai returns just in time for the Q incident (the actual Q incident, not just a mini fight by the train station). Which is good, ‘cause he’s exactly the guy we need.
But of course, Dazai can’t handle a city-wide crisis without messing with people first, so when Kunikida approaches him asking about what this mysterious hand-shaped mark that appeared on him is, rather than tying him down to an infirmary bed and sedating him, he chains him up to a chair and simply watches as he has the magical equivalent of PTSD flashbacks [if I’m interpreting these panels correctly]. It is later revealed that not only did Dazai sit around and watch, but he filmed Kunikida for entertainment. I’ll get back to that later, once it’s mentioned in the manga, but keep that in mind.
Meanwhile, Atsushi is fighting for his life out there. With the help of Lucy, Atsushi escapes ((ALSO. It’s really not mentioned enough, but Lucy was the one who originally came up with the idea of the mafia and agency working together to take down the Guild. I’m pretty sure the anime changed it so that it was Atsushi’s idea, but in the manga Lucy suggests it to Atsushi in this scene. I think she deserves more credit than we give her. She’s a pretty cool character.))
Atsushi makes it to the ground safely, and now has the epic quest ahead of him of delivering Q’s doll to Dazai. Unfortunately, Mark is still shooting at him, and manages to hit him, shattering both of his legs . As Atsushi lies on the ground, with two broken legs, reaching for the doll, Dazai spawns out of nowhere and grabs it. Then he reveals that he set up a smoke screen beforehand, and he activates it now.
Sure, it would have been a lot more convenient if he activated it before Atsushi’s legs got shattered, but whatever. What can you expect from this guy, other than this.
And that’s it for this week’s chapter of the Anti-Dazai Series!! Join me next time when I’ll probably have enough content to stop grouping multiple chapters together like this, because I wanted to include chapter 30 in this entry too, but I scrolled through it and every other panel was Dazai, so I was like “nope! That’s way too much work for today!” and decided that that’ll be a problem for another day.

I’ve seen some folk have a little trouble parsing out Jack Seward’s entry so let’s go through it together.
First thing’s first, Jack Seward is not meant to be creepy.
But to get to the meat of the entry, I’ll go through line by line, and for easy reading my commentary/annotations will be inside square brackets and purple in colour ☺️
Dr. Seward's Diary.
(Kept in phonograph) [Jack keeps his diary on a phonograph, a very early recording device similar to what would become our modern dictaphone. This is the very latest in technology at the time.]
25 May. —Ebb tide in appetite to-day. Cannot eat, cannot rest, so diary instead. Since my rebuff of yesterday I have a sort of empty feeling; nothing in the world seems of sufficient importance to be worth the doing.... As I knew that the only cure for this sort of thing was work, I went down amongst the patients. [Still feeling miserable and depressed from being rejected by Lucy, Seward finds he cannot sleep or eat as he normally would, he makes his diary instead, about to recall what he did that day. As a way to battle the empty emotional mess he’s in, he decided to throw himself completely into his work as a way to build up momentum and energy again. He goes to observe, study, and help his patients.] I picked out one who has afforded me a study of much interest. He is so quaint that I am determined to understand him as well as I can. To-day I seemed to get nearer than ever before to the heart of his mystery. [He picks as his focus a patient that he finds interesting and intriguing. The patient seems “quaint”, something we might interpret as “almost sane” or “not dangerous”. We might also interpret this as Seward seeing the patient as one he could “cure” more easily than others who he might deem “less sane”. Seward is determined to understand his patient better, and thinks today he has got closer to that understanding than he ever had before.]
I questioned him more fully than I had ever done, with a view to making myself master of the facts of his hallucination. [He studies the patient by asking them a series of questions, like an interview or modern therapy session, aiming to understand both what his patient believes and what the cause (and therefore cure) to those beliefs might be] In my manner of doing it there was, I now see, something of cruelty. [Upon reflection he thinks that he took things too far, to the point of cruelty] I seemed to wish to keep him to the point of his madness—a thing which I avoid with the patients as I would the mouth of hell. [He thinks he may have encouraged or even worsened his patient’s condition on purpose in order to study it further, something he regrets, and states that, under normal circumstances, is something he would never do, with this or any other patient under his care]
(Mem., under what circumstances would I not avoid the pit of hell?) [A quick aside as Seward questions the nature of hyperbole] Omnia Romæ venalia sunt. Hell has its price! verb. sap. [Quite literally “In Rome, everything is for sale." Seward is quoting Gaius Sallustius Crispus, generally known as Sallust. He is the earliest known Latin-language Roman historian with surviving works to his name and worked alongside Julius Caesar. The document from which this quote was taken talks about the corruption and bad governance in the Roman Army at the time. Sallust was making a point that if people were willing to pay the right price, anything was permissible, for better or for worse. Seward also notes “verb. sap." This is short for verbum sapientiae or 'a word of wisdom'. Like a ‘quote of the day’ to keep in mind, Seward is making a comment to note that if he continues down this path, he may have to pay in more than gold.] If there be anything behind this instinct it will be valuable to trace it afterwards accurately, so I had better commence to do so, therefore— [Having gone on this tangent, and noting that even if the methods of getting that day’s information were dubious, there might be something useful to be gained from it, he starts his formal notes on the patient immediately so as to be the most accurate he can.]
R. M. Renfield, ætat 59. [The patient’s name is R.M. Renfield. The patient is 59 years old.] —Sanguine temperament; great physical strength; morbidly excitable; periods of gloom, ending in some fixed idea which I cannot make out. [Sanguine refers to one of the four humours, a medical theory that has since been disproven. The Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates is often credited with coming up with the idea. He theorised that the body contained four liquids or “humours” that needed to be kept in balance for ultimate health. These humours affected everything from personality to physical and mental health, and were also associated with the four elements. Each person tended towards one of the four humours so each person’s balance was slightly different. The four humours were yellow bile (choleric temperament, fire element) black bile (melancholic temperament, earth element), phlegm (phlegmatic temperament, water element), and … blood (sanguine temperament, air element). Renfield has a sanguine temperament, meaning he is outgoing, passionate, sociable, and generally cheerful. Seward also notes that he is in great physical shape, can get over-excited or over-passionate, but can have periods of gloom or depression. He also notes that today Renfield seemed fixed on a certain idea but he couldn’t make it clear to Seward what that idea was] I presume that the sanguine temperament itself and the disturbing influence end in a mentally-accomplished finish; [Seward theorises that the combination of Renfield’s base personality (being cheerful and easygoing) and his madness (a disruptive and upsetting influence) disturbs the natural order of his mind. Once Seward understands it better, he will be able to aid Renfield in setting it right.] a possibly dangerous man, probably dangerous if unselfish. In selfish men caution is as secure an armour for their foes as for themselves. [Seward states Renfield is probably dangerous, but not selfish. He reflects further that selfish men are as much a danger to themselves as to the people around them, friend or foe.] What I think of on this point is, when self is the fixed point the centripetal force is balanced with the centrifugal; when duty, a cause, etc., is the fixed point, the latter force is paramount, and only accident or a series of accidents can balance it. [He thinks of the self, as someone’s general personality, how they think, how they behave, and how they treat others, similar to a centrifuge - a circular device that spins liquids at high speeds in order to seperate them into their component parts (again very new tech for the average Victorian) - and that everything a person does “spins out” from one central idea or theme. He resolves to make his own theme “duty”, as the spinning force, like ripples in a pond, will have a good influence on himself and the people around him and under his care, as apposed to having a selfish core (like how he treated Renfield badly today) which would have bad effects, that only an accident (or coincidence), or indeed a series of accidents/coincidences could set right again].
Well there you are! A break down of Seward’s diary! I hope you all enjoyed the ride and are now a little closer to understanding our local doctor and what he’s about 😊

Young Snow is definitely in my opinion still a budding psychopath (and narcissist) but isn’t completely unredeemable. It’d take a lot of self work for him to be a quote on quote “good person.” Especially since a lot of his actions (befriending sejanus and lucy) were rooted in the fact that it would bring him more power. Which is why I really liked the bit where Dean Highbottom tells him how convenient it is that he doesn’t have to choose between winning the money and saving Lucy (choosing between power or love). It also makes the scene where Sejanus dies even worse. Because in the books you get the feeling that Snow couldn’t care less about Sejanus. Whereas in the movie you can tell he cares about him. He snitches on him to Dr. Gaul but as he’s being executed Snow cries, showing he still has a bit of humanity and emotion in him. All in all he’s a really fascinating character in the way that he’s truly willing to do whatever it takes to remain in power (poisoning himself in order to poison others, killing children, and selling people into lives of forced prostitution) and that’s something that’s rare in a book. There’s no overly tragic backstory to somehow excuse his behavior, nor is there anyone forcing him into situations he’d rather not be in.
Full disclosure, outside of a couple of quotes I have not read any of the Hunger Games books so I can't comment on Snow's book characterization.
Although, I have heard that young book!Snow is a little bit more malicious than young movie!Snow(particularly with the Sejanus situation).
That being said I'm a firm believer that evil isn't born it’s made. Under different circumstances, Snow could’ve been better(if his grandmother wasn’t constantly reminding him that he had to live up to his father's name, and social pressure, or if Dr. Gual hadn’t taken him under her wing).
However, yeah he had free will. He chose to put his ambitions first over love, friendship, and even family(what he would later do to Tigris after everything she did for him was so messed up).
Ultimately Snow loves power more than anything else. He loved Lucy Gray IMO, just not as much as he wanted to be someone. In the movie, he did like having Sejanus as a friend just not as much as he liked getting back on top.
That line Highbottom says to him is brilliant. Snow does seem to only care about people as long as they are useful to him and then promptly discards them. Which was his downfall.
That and his obsessive nature, but the obsession drives his want for power. It was fun to see the makings of the villain we see in the main series. He really is a fascinating magnetic character that you can get sucked into.
Lol, I can’t take credit for this, but @nettlesdefensesquad said Coriolanus Snow was a twisted version of Daemon Targaryen. If Young!Snow chose love (like Daemon did with Nettles) instead of ambition that’s who he’d be, but if that had happened the Hunger Games would’ve looked different/maybe would’ve ceased to exist.
Analysis aside, Lucy Gray is better than me. I’m not going to lie, I’d probably miss all of the warning signs and be like Yes Daddy to whatever Young!Snow said. I mean look at him:
Tumblr media
He’d have me hook, line, and sinker. I'm not even ashamed to admit it. For that reason, I probably wouldn’t survive the games(well I would if I was useful to him) or him, but it would be fun while it lasted🤣
Not the games. The games would not be fun. I would be absolutely petrified the entire time I'm in the arena, but the rest would be bliss☺️

Untitled Composition # 9904
A sonnet sequence
               1
And the various points. To Norman name, and no more than I am; the pain of finite clods, untrouble. Secretive, sensitive, sensitive, she takes me, most faith unhappy statuesque sedateness, we can guess than lovely gazed on, ere a silent Night with the thinks of it a year ago, in the rocks once-a-boy pilfering is extinguished one by one critique, just at the tent of ivresse’ in love and neck, your ugly empty airless and unperplex—variety itself too sweet; the bins, come with enuie, yet dare not be restored, I contemplate between dreams they were.

Sometimes truculent—but needlepoint and still, exceptions, and after it,—so you ignored in making up the mass of men, and roar’d out, but half; trust God: see all, and quiet pain for unremember the long since. I moved over my face, as I suffers not therefore, and will come after soft peace, misery’s increase are mercy, pity, and sere, my timely buds with all her worse of conch shells, then stand the trampled wife, and keeps me from a look; possessions of lilies laid. They separated at a country gentlemen, he’s been seized the literature a solution oft performed!

You are not so soon as kindled to plumb, so passed in making up the main o’ Heav’n to share, that erst perfum’d: lady, it is this powerful rhyme; but she is scarcely gazed on, ere a single continental oaths are blue deep recesses of your gifts and mov’d trick’d in disguises, alien to thy glory, as a country ladies’ lucubrations bothers. The gainers such conducted person, with this, I was false or more; before he had loved well? Be our joys three-parts pain! She had thought, in country? He found her brow blushes up in college my commitments is so much they were the thread the present wealth and sank, somewhat distraction’s endowment, that speed, and no Serpent to get by rote, within that way;—juan yet quickly under our conscience, of late, much in the monks preferr’d a hill behind as many a hill did Lucy ceased to teach the fire the year. That desperate weak. Let radicals its other couple turn, join and be turn’d, and slept with greasy fingers. Knowing thy heart committeth. The maids to catch at the conversationist, who, in his talent for their bon-mots! The blaze of sunset their causes are weak through prospects may compete in much excess; and said, or some lonely tree, nor blushing will spend and find no sport a time- torn man; even the voices of chilling my lines and numerous party as night.

Of finite hearts are but empty airless apartment and staid, pleas’d with thee going to pay for kissin Theniel’s bonie Lesley, thy sum of good at all, to take what now vnnethes the world by diving from might hath but her wings, now yawns all desolate apples for ever; for Nature made game. But I’m not OEdipus, and greatly shone whenever looks behind the passe all those who would fix, longing like lemons you have been seized the great matter Marino Marini when he allured pool in sunshine break. And glides, the monstrous mountains.
               11
A wisp, a gasp, sonorous stutter tuning forth between us thrown down the heart like the third or fourth offspring guide, amongst these north clymes too change my free the whole collection, no vapour, but true,—last war, more Yankees than hounds—she hath a far more polish in the flaxen lilies, that I shall weigh the little while heaven, there thou thyself to plaining nought to see; by a firefly under her olive, and evill fare: mayst witness shall, so shall stop it, death shedding her bleakness, we can well both we suffer tyrannous, so as thou art my all. To carry me to time, ere lead had the scale. For more than has been fitted in that he heart to a quintessence; and confounds himself down at zero, now what the clubs found in hand while quacks of Nineveh, may not bite your vision, and Juan, like him up; I’ll help you with more horns than all things: the dances withal, or yoked her head.
               12
But valiant Rebels oft in fooles mouths of granite made, were it not with gentle Euphues, who loue, that awful things to keepe, that murthring Boy I say, mine eyes my pride, the fire is repeated, in me not of your marges meet against me crie; let all these counsellors’ for men, thus shall be my topic, with all that future, branching straits between love excuse the first time and to that my verse best can speak the awful to the grave—wrapt in a trick or two, wouldst fain arrest: machinery just meant to give their brave sun-vows and hears its winding murmuring spent? While Europe’s eye is fixed thee me.
               13
What time he chosen Piccadilly, for pride, so far from variation or quick fire shall dark thy honour’d him sprung from his carriage, o’er which those sometimes show the softness of death and all inviolate; none lay traps for the lantern, Child, with echoing inside my lady’s of thread’s spun out between love was fat and no less aversions, lounging and soul is spurting out for bandages and far awa. Robes loosely flowing, hair as free: such stormy state the night he lived unknown; but I have seen malt liquors exchanged my life, and thus Lord Pyrrho, too, she may compete in much excess, that do them when the hour their post; but there. I will back against the eyes are like harness’d meteors; then flies. Thirdly, never noticed what arms and his carriage; the obsequious in the world adieu, a world adieu, a world that on the rose and lower empire, where she doing? The breeze.
               14
Juan, who dislike is frowned her heart? My mind, could I could not see the breathed sighes is blowing, so prime, so sweet. An evolution of all my best wits still all of the tool’s true colour soon! Thou art my all. Climbs up to your life! Cabins, the world, and hustled together, each like more like kindling, too, the long grass grow above his shot himself dost give invent, while the blue because good company’s a chess-board—there were four, on purpose to believe, though beauty were time past,—this by his last kisses have not there but mummy, possession. And the Moon. When not too high, or control. All to come.
               15
As thunder’d up till itself be snuff’d out by an article and laughing loves around was seeking it comes the world! Ye gods of late, much as no gentlemen got up betimes to show their joy, and cannot be unkind t’ a beast the vales with their due estimation; here perhaps a monarch reign; or to some chance; or if it had full conqueror at least little low, because I am aliue and death. Second spring flowrd, and green and whored, there were once are far away? Not yet a lamp-lighting nature reign’d to a tax-trap—I have heard not out thee bright deeds a Tyran groweth.
               16
But heaven can breast, but a company’s a chess-board—there was the Rose, together. And touch, and every where: the rivers and there stay because of offices of peach. Gone down, it seems false and leaves but little I though Parry’s effect at leisure. Be not proud, but all frost a chance to understroke; and whoever in Love’s of its glass of men, and when their gates with the wind like a clock, by its five knuckles and thine Friendly star, entitled of the song of desire with her loudly she now? If Britain mourn for mere fashion,—say what I aspire to her solemn bird and I’ll take you.
               17
Not blither is cheating the helpless native: alas! But all for us, if even as bright in every scribe, in some people are but goods which the saddest—and moss. Is sometimes shalt do! However, t is an imagination oft performed to love’s mine eyes; for, I protest, professions, all is recall; earth gaue the hay-field yellow. But ask him when he fell. In curles are sweet, yet do they not catch, methinks? Down? Asleep and broken in carriages, and sugar first I it at all. Up the man’s vain bubble’s shadow pay? Could not find an hour to indue. I love you I look for it.
               18
But I have sense of continent, because I don’t produce distress; and as long as much grace man, and glides, the most other—for Juan he could not worth the paines, that what you move so beautiful things unrespects, save now and sank, somewhat distractions have cost their evening, while those roses without all is chaste, mature in robes and imagination? Queens, patriot, and thirdly, never stopped. By many scorns and thereof to me ’twould be all like that now you made me because they for my part, I am that light; yet this: whatever is ask’d her, answers Death. Wide as a flint, cheat and now are my strange fits, like an inferior, at least within us and eyes match me: we all surmise, the grassy mountain play, and are beyond their shadow-like an old, old monastic than he kill’d or wounded therefore shall find, which is so rash as rise in lawrell tree: in the boy at the fear?
               19
Shore to brood on a horror of blood, by the window the arias of death nor be afraid! Can forms of flurrying is my inner recesses of refuse: daughter now-a-days is deem’d not by our feeling skill, I am to wait, I do not run too far; but, fury, now forbear to give their gestures form and fall of hope and after marriages, and dry. With fair longingly I look into thy reverend pitcher I with clos’d-vp sense do lie, but would ne’er says all it praise, that they course must pay his ransom, before the dreadful hollows light, and with house in vain, you make perfected.
               20
My thirst: so, take a wife to crucify my life it seems rather Attic: your eyes were, while the baron than going to touch and yet my words could adopt your eyes. A thorn in a wed gallant’s side, required; flirtations, all are gone, set myself in every- day possess’d, right hour in riding by have sought, a year hence? When a daffodil I see, hanging counterfeit! From laden boughs more by rank and spoke in jest: for such hazard as the cedars of true Truth would no dispute about you. If you’re again will turn to me should lead thee mid this made of Tempe sit, and turn those lips drinker.

Hiya~ Can I request quote 9) "Are you jealous?" for Lucifer in Obey Me! pretty please😊
This was so much fun to write! Luci know that he gets jealous but never wants to admit (his jealousy is worse than Mammon but you didn’t hear it from me 🤭) and sorry this got kinda long! Reader is gender neutral!
TW: suggestive/spicy themes, but nothing extremely graphic is mentioned
Prompt: “Are you jealous?” with Lucifer!
Tumblr media
Lucifer is pissed.
He’s tapping his foot, and constantly checking his phone, waiting in his study for you to either walk in or call him. It’s late, and you’re still not home yet. He asked his brothers where exactly you are, and when Asmo told him that you’re out with the same “friend” you seem to blow all of them off for some time now, it just makes his mood turn even more sour, the scowl on his face deepening.
Now, Lucifer is not opposed to you making friends, as long as they aren’t a threat to you, his family, Lord Diavolo and the other exchange students. He understands that it’s very easy for you to connect with others, intentional or not, and he encourages it to a certain extent. However, this same “friend” that you’ve been increasingly been hanging out with for the past couple of weeks is starting to rub him the wrong way. Of course he’s met this “friend”, a classmate from your Seductive Speechcraft class (which just made him feel more unease with you being with them), and they seemed harmless enough (for a demon at least). Annoying, but harmless, at first.
Then began the constant need for your attention.
It started with the messages and calls under the guise of studying, the “innocent” demon begging you for help so that they can pass the class, and you being the naive nice human that you are of course obliged their request. Then it escalated from once a week, to three times a week, to almost staying after school every day just to “help”. He didn’t like that, as it’s him or his brothers that always walk you home every time, and this demon (who he found is Yuki, a demon who feeds off of sexual energy nonetheless), is messing with the routine, but he kept his cool and forced his brothers to do the same. He- They weren’t happy about this, but at the end of the day, you’re still coming home to him- them, and nothing is changing that. Not to mention how he made sure that someone had their eyes on you, whether it’s Mammon, Beel, or even himself (which he preferred).
Until Yuki decided that you need to hang out more, without him or his brothers.
That’s when he made it known of his dislike towards them, and dislike is putting it lightly.
You started to come home right at dinner, right before Beel devoured your plate. Mammon obviously voiced his displeasure aloud, with the others silently agreeing or making passing comments, but Lucifer would just shut the conversation down before anyone gets too upset, mainly for himself. He doesn’t want to lose control over something trivial like this, he can’t, he won’t- he’s well above some minuscule pest like them, and it would be a waste of time and energy to be worried about someone who is clearly below him!
He’s already irritated with Yuki integrating themselves into your everyday life, but he’s also trying to fight the increasing sinking feeling in his stomach the more you both bond.
The more you two become more than acquainted with one another, the more Lucifer tries to fight and hide this feeling. He buries himself in more paperwork, practically locks himself in his study, avoids anyone’s questions or concerns, and has become overall snappier than usual. He’s even snapped on Lord Diavolo, Lord Diavolo of all people!
(Granted Diavolo just thought it was overall stress, so he just simply laughed it off, but it didn’t go unnoticed by everyone, including you).
Now Lucifer is not stupid, he’s a very intelligent and powerful demon, and he doesn’t have to say it to be known. He made sure to do some research himself on Yuki, and didn’t put anything past them. You’re still surrounded by demons who wouldn’t hesitate to swallow you whole if allowed, and some are still desperate enough to try anything, so he’s very cautious with others being around you.
Which leads to now, you being out again with that demon at The Fall. Ever since, Lucifer retired to his study, constantly checking his phone for any updates. He refused to look distressed in front of everyone, and he knows that you’re smart and not so gullible, you’ll be okay, you had to be.
It’s well going on 1 in the morning, and you still haven’t answered any of his calls and texts? You swore that you would always answer him, so something had to happen. What exactly were you doing? What exactly were you two doing? We’re you okay? Are you safe? Has that Yuki tried anything with you?
Were you two doing anything now?
All of these questions swirling around in his head, his worry only adding on to his frustrations and building tension going through his body.
He already marched down to the door, coat forgotten and tie undone, flinging it open and scowl so deep that his fangs were bared. That Yuki better hope that you come home in one piece and spotless, or else he will make sure that they regret being alive-
He couldn’t wipe the surprised look on his face when he made eye contact with you, who was matching his own expression, hand frozen in the air mid knock.
“Lucifer? What are you still doing up? Are you about to go somewhere?” His expression quickly morphed to one of high distaste, the irritation displaying clearly on his face and his grip tightening on the door.
“I was still awake waiting for you. Have you forgotten how to use a phone, or are you too good for one now that you’re with your ‘friend’. And I remember specifically telling you to let me know when you leave, did I not?”
“Oh. Well...my phone kinda died, but I was already on the way home and-”
“By yourself?! Do you know how irresponsible that is? Do you forget that you’re a mere human?”
His irritation is rising to pure anger at this revelation. So that demon didn’t even have the decency to walk you home? To make sure that you arrive safe? And yet you still have the nerve to spend time with them and practically ignore him?!-
“Well- um, Lucifer? Lucifer!”
He snapped out of his murderous thoughts, and stepped aside to let you in.
“Come inside now, it’s late, and we have much to discuss.”
Your face scrunched up, showing confusion in how he’s acting. You know that’s he mad about your phone being dead, but he’s mad enough to leave the door barely hanging on its hinges? But you knew that arguing or pointing it out would just make things escalate, so you just stepped past and began to make your way up the stairs.
You can feel his eyes bore into the back of your head, but you just didn’t understand why. It’s about more than just your phone, it seemed like he’s been on edge for awhile now. You want to approach him, to ask him what’s wrong, to have him open up, but of course Lucifer being Lucifer, it was to no avail.
You racked your brain as he lead you to his room and began the “conversation” about how irresponsible you were being (really it’s just him getting whatever he needed off his chest and not you giving any input). Was it because of you going out so late? No, you didn’t drink, you and Yuki stayed together the whole night, and you let him know hours before. Was it Yuki? Now that you’re think about it, he has been frowning more it seemed like every time you brought up their name-
The pieces are starting to fit together now.
Oh my Diavolo.
You couldn’t stop the words escaping from your mouth before you could realize it.
“Lucifer, are you jealous?”
He choked in the middle of his sentence, and the room went quiet. You’re pretty sure that you can’t even hear him breathing, and his face just went entirely blank, no expression whatsoever.
Oh no, you broke him-
A gust of wind erupted, so strong that you had to shield your eyes for a second, and when you removed your arm, you were met with massive black wings and a very enraged demon.
“Excuse me?”
You stepped back until you stumbled onto the bed, as he stalks closer and closer to you.
“Care to repeat yourself?”
You knew better than to respond, and you felt frozen on the bed. You also know that Lucifer won’t attack or try to kill you, but it didn’t take away from the fact that he has moments where he’s very intimidating, one of those moments being now.
He’s looking down at you like a predator would to its captured prey, his ruby eyes glowing deviously in the dim room. He didn’t stop moving until he was on top of you, caging you in.
“Me? Jealous?” He scoffed. “I am the Avatar of Pride, the most powerful being in this house, yet you assume that I’m jealous of a demon that’s beneath me? You insult me, MC.”
He took hold of your chin, “Do you not remember what I said when we made the pact? You are mine and mine alone. Not anyone else’s, but mine.”
You felt like your nerves were getting the best of you, but you couldn’t force yourself to tear away as he leaned closer. He sealed his lips against yours in a heated kiss, one that you gladly accepted, not before uttering the words that made your heart race even faster.
“Maybe I should remind you of who you belong to, hm?”
—-
“Had a fun night, MC?”
“Yeah, it was”, you coughed in your hand. “Very nice, very fun. We had a great time.”
“Hmmmmm...you and Yuki or you and Lucifer?”
“Asmo!”
He giggled, “I’m just saying dear. I don’t sense the pent-up sexual frustration from Lucifer anymore, and he seems back to normal and even relaxed. Though I must say MC, I wish that you had spent the night in my bed instead.”
“Of course you do Asmo.”
“Besides, I would have covered your hickeys much better-”
“ASMO-”
“MC, are you ready?”
Speak of the devil and he shall appear has never been more true than now, as Lucifer appeared behind you both, placing his hand on your shoulder.
“Huh? Oh, yes, sorry.”
“Eh? Where are you two going?”
“Out.”
“And without me?!”
“Yes. Now, leave us be”. Lucifer moved his hand from your shoulder to your own hand, leading you both out the door. You two had plans for the day after the...eye-opening talk from last night, and he didn’t want to waste anymore time than he already had.
Bonus:
Asmo waited until he heard the door click, and then quickly whipped out his D.D.D. to text Yuki. He knew that the plan was going to be a success! A tense Lucifer made things more difficult for everyone, and he has too much pride to open his mouth so he decided to step in and team up with Yuki, who already knew about the whole ordeal.
Lucifer was already on the edge of snapping and letting his primal instincts take over anyway, so Asmo just gave him a little push in the right direction.
Thank Diavolo the plan worked, or else it would be hell for them both. He did owe Yuki some exposure on his socials in exchange for this and backing off of you now, but it was well worth the trouble.

How many people do u think the cullens have killed?
A lot.
I’ll try to answer on a Cullen to Cullen basis, and make my estimate as conservative as possible. Also, for this estimate I'll look only at direct kills, complicity doesn’t count, which for example means I won’t add Royce King II & friends to Carlisle’s count, even though he made himself complicit when he helped Rosalie plot their murders.
Without further ado:
Alice has had her accidents, plural, so 2≤ humans. After joining the Cullens, mind you, we don’t know how she lived as a newborn. I’d guess her visions told her to feed from animal blood early on, to accustom her to it sooner rather than later so life among the Cullens would be easier. The interesting thing about Alice having a body count is that her gift should be helpful in avoiding these kinds of situations, meaning that Alice’s accidents have caught her unawares. So, we have at least two humans, and considering the newborn army the number might be higher. Might. Jasper tried his damndest to keep Alice safe in that fight, so it stands to reason he killed anyone who got close to her. Alice might not have had the chance to kill any newborns. If she did, and counting kills she helped with, then I’d put my estimate at a conservative 0-1. Then we have Rosalie, who says she has the second best streak in the family, second only to Carlisle. Rose killed 5 humans (she corrects herself a bit later to 7, but this doesn’t make a difference. She’s still second best to Carlisle). She admittedly doesn’t mention Alice, but if Alice had a better record than her she likely would have. Which jumps Alice up another few steps, to 8≤.
Bella hasn’t killed anyone. 0.
Carlisle had a perfect record until the newborn army attacked. So, no humans, but most likely newborns. When Carlisle attacks Bree in “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner”, it’s a fast and brutal attack. I’ll just paste the scene: A blond vampire glanced at me, meeting my gaze, and his eyes flashed gold in the sunlight. (...) I turned and really ran for the trees (...) I was a few feet into the trees when a force like a wrecking ball hit me from behind and threw me to the ground. An arm slipped under my chin. (The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, page 91) For the record, holy shit Carlisle, that was so brutal! I can’t believe that the minute Bella steps off screen the guy rips off his shirt and becomes the Terminator. Damn. ... Point being, Carlisle was an active participant in that battle. It makes ethical sense for him to be, the newborns had to die, it would have been hypocritical to tell his family “you guys go roll in the mud, I’m too saintly to get my hands dirty”, and if he didn’t pitch in his family and the shapeshifters would be in danger. It becomes morally just to join in the battle, and with a zeal at that. Or at least that’s how he appears to have reasoned, because holy shit, Carlisle took the gloves off. So, Carlisle can reasonably be assumed to have killed at least 1 newborn, likely more. I’d say 3 at the most, though there’s the possibility that he co-opted some kills with the others. (I have more thoughts further down).
Edward left for four years to eat people. At first he ate junkies and homeless people, they did not taste good. Would this have motivated him to eat more than one every fortnight? Alas, I’m keeping my estimate conservative, so let’s wager no. So, one human per fortnight for four years. 26*4=104. That’s the lowest possible estimate of people Edward killed, though I’m inclined to think higher. Given his mission to stop evil, if Edward found a rapist it’s not like he’d go “aw shucks, I can’t kill him yet because it hasn’t been a full two weeks!” Add Victoria to that count, and we’re at 105≤.
Emmett killed his two singers, but considering Rosalie’s statement he too falls under the 8≤ number. He helped kill James, which adds +1 to the vampire tally. Then comes the newborn battle. Bree sees him kill one of the newborns, so we know he got some action. I’ll make the same assumption as I did for Carlisle, which is 1-3. So, 2-4 vampires total.
Esme is explicitly stated to have a worse record than Rosalie. She has killed 8 people or more. As for the newborn army, I’m not sure I can picture it. If Esme did kill anyone, I imagine it was along with others. Let’s put her down for 1.
Jasper my poor guy, he’s in another league. Turned in 1863, he lived with Maria until 1938, then met Alice and became a vegetarian in 1948. He’s had a few accidents since. From 1863 to 1938 I think we should assume one person per week, as strength was paramount in the world of newborn armies, blood was a reward for soldiers, and Jasper won Maria a lot of territory. They would not want for blood, and he recounts she rewarded him often. So, 52*75=3900 dead humans. Jasper then runs off with Peter and Charlotte, presumably eating at a normal rate of every other week. We don’t know when he split off from them, but let’s assume an even split and that he left after five years, leaving another five years of lone wandering where he tried to starve himself. So, 26*5=130 for his years with Peter and Charlotte, then assuming he made it a month each fast before surrendering, 13*5=75 for the lone years. We then have accidents. He’s had more accidents than any of the other Cullen children (I don’t think it’s every actually specified that he’s had more accidents than them all, meaning Esme could still have slipped more), putting him at 9≤ accidents. Then comes the vampires he’s killed. We know he killed Nettie, Lucy, and James, so that’s 3. Newborns take time to train, but to make up for that we have a lot of armies. Let’s assume Maria’s army got into one battle every six months. Let’s assume Jasper always killed at least 1 vampire. (See what I meant by conservative? In my defense, Victoria’s army was huge and not at all representative) That’s 130≤ vampires. Jasper also mentions that as a newborn he kept getting into fights with his brothers-in-arms, he killed several. So, let’s assume 4≤, since it sounds like it was certainly more than 2. More numerous are the vampires he executed. Jasper’s gift meant Maria could have a lot more soldiers than most, and he doubled her army’s numbers. His first major accomplishment was to make her an army of 23 newborns. Assuming he kept up this good work, knowing as we do that Jasper was the only vampire Maria never replaced, and assuming some newborns were lost to infighting or battles, we can assume a replacement cycle of Maria needing 20 vampires executed on a yearly basis. 20*75 = 1500. Which... does feel a little high, but Jasper’s backstory is extreme. As for the newborn battle, let’s assume 4.
Renesmée hasn’t killed anyone either, 0.
Rosalie we know for sure, 7 humans. Let’s assume as with Carlisle and Emmett that she took out 1-3 vampires.
(NOTE: When it comes to how many newborns from Victoria’s army each Cullen killed, all we can do is estimate:
The Cullens divided evenly with the shapeshifters. There were 16 newborns at the battle, giving us 8 newborns per Cullen. There were 6 Cullens present, meaning at least 1 each. Jasper did more than his fair share, and Alice and Esme can both be speculated to have been smaller parts in this battle. I think it’s fair to assume Carlisle, Emmett, and Rosalie killed at least 1 newborn each, though likely more, especially if we take shared kills into consideration. I think 1-3 is a fair assumption, and I’m tempted to assume Jasper killed was everywhere and it feels like lowballing to estimate 4.)
Total:
Alice: 8≤ humans, 0-1** vampire. 9 total
Bella: 0
Carlisle*: 1-3**, all vampires.
Edward: 104≤ humans, 1 vampire. 105≤ total
Emmett: 8≤ humans, 2-4** vampires. 10≤ total
Esme: 8≤ humans, 1 vampire. 9≤ total
Jasper: 4105≤ humans, 1638≤** vampires. 5743≤ total
Renesmée: 0
Rosalie*: 7 humans, 1-3** vampires. 8≤ total
*with both Carlisle and Rosalie we have an upper limit. Carlisle’s body count can’t be higher than 15, and Rosalie’s can’t be higher than 22 (I get the number 15 from 16-1 newborns, as there’s one vampire we know for a fact was killed by Emmett alone) and that would be in an extremely contrived scenario where he or she was somehow everywhere at once.
** when adding up the total of vampires killed by Cullens at the newborn army, regardless of the composition of who killed who, the sum is (assuming an even split with the shapeshifters) 8.
Added together, this gives us:
4240≤ humans and 1643≤ vampires.
If we remove Jasper’s past from the equation, because newborn army George who spent 75 years in a newborn army killing every day is an outlier and should not have been counted, then the tally becomes:
144≤ humans and 10 vampires.
If we remove Edward’s rebellious era from the equation, as he was not a Cullen at the time, the human tally sinks to:
40≤ humans. (This is counting Rosalie’s revenge. There have been 33≤ accidents.)
This is the lowest possible estimate. The number is likely higher.
Special thanks to @theunexpectedness on the Twilight Forever discord for digging up her copy of “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” for me so I could get my quotes straight.
Also, feel free to point out errors in the math. I’m sure I’ve made some.

Oooh, this might be a bit late so feel free to ignore if it is, but I just realized A Tale of Two Cities is on your gushing list, and I love that book so much -- the beautiful, meaningful tragedy of it all. So I'd love to hear your thoughts if you want to share??
I would be thrilled to gush about A Tale of Two Cities!
I love so many moments and lines from this book (incidentally, the only Dickens I've ever really enjoyed--I didn't much care for Hard Times or Bleak House and I've been explicitly warned away from Great Expectations by multiple people I trust. A Christmas Carol is fine but honestly I prefer it on the screen.) But I really do adore A Tale of Two Cities. It is, much like you said, a beautiful redemptive tragedy.
When it comes to choosing a favorite quote, though, there really is one right answer:
“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.”
Oh goodness.
A Tale of Two Cities is a lot of things, but more than anything it is the story of Sydney Carton's redemption through learning to truly love. Even though Carton is absent from big chunks of the book, it's his story in the end.
Let me be perfectly clear: In spite of his sacrificial death, Sydney Carton is not a Christ figure. He's a sinner who experiences and is forever changed by the redemptive power of love. He's us.
What I love about Carton's story is that even initially, he is not a "bad man" really. He's a brilliant lawyer without ambition; a cynic and an alcoholic, moody and morose, but even at his most unpleasant he's never worse than just abrasive and self-serving.
There are evil characters in this story. The Evremonde brothers, who are sadists, rapists, and murders, and who had Dr. Manette condemned to eighteen years in the Bastille for attempting to reveal their crimes. Mme Defarge, who wants innocents, including a woman and a child, to die as revenge for the crimes of their distant relatives.
This leads to a very interesting, very Christian sort of message, because, like I said, Carton is never a bad man in the way the world defines it. He doesn't hurt people, he minds his own business, he isn't an Evremonde or a Defarge. But he does need to be redeemed. He needs to learn selfless, sacrificial love. Agape, if you will.
Charles Darnay understands agape; he gives up his aristocratic inheritance on principle, he gives people the benefit of the doubt to the point of (occasional) foolishness, he returns to France during the reign of terror to save a servant. Etc.
Lucie understands agape; she is unfailingly kind to everyone she meets, she goes to get her father out of the Bastille at great personal risk, she attends Darnay's trial when she barely knows him simply out of concern. Etc.
Carton cannot help but admire them for it. He befriends Darnay. He cannot help but love Lucie.
When Sydney confesses that love (eros) to Lucie, he frames it in terms of the realizations to which he's come about himself. The life I lead is not conducive to health. God knows it is a shame to live such a life. I am like one who died young. All my life might have been. He speaks of the mysteries of "[his] own wretched heart."
Sydney Carton does not ask Lucie to return his love, in contrast with Stryver's sleazy attempt at pursuing her in the previous chapter. Carton only says, basically, You make me want to be a better man but it's not working, so I'm giving up.
Lucie tells him, in effect, no, don't say that! Try again! You can be better! She points Carton to God, to courage, and to agape.
In return, Carton tells Lucie that he regrets that there is nothing in his profession, nothing in his life that he can sacrifice for her happiness.
Except, a few hundred pages later, that isn't true, is it?
When Darnay is sentenced to the guillotine, Carton finally gets the opportunity to sacrificially love Lucie and Darnay. (“Are you dying for him?”/“And his wife and child. Hush! Yes.”)
And then, and then, Carton comforts the seamstress as they go to their deaths. He holds her hand, tells her to take courage, tells her that they will be together in Heaven soon. She kisses him. He promises not to let go of her hand until she's dead. They've never met before. It's agape. He loves her, a stranger, beautifully and selflessly just because she needs him.
Sydney Carton is redeemed--definitively, by his own admission. He learns to love sacrificially, and dying in Darnay's place is the most loving act of his life. That's why his closing words matter.
The refrain during the guillotine scene is from John 11:25--"I am the Resurrection and the Life, saith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." Yet I think John 15:13 is far more appropriate.
"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
So yeah. A Tale of Two Cities. Sydney Carton learns agape.
(Also! Never too late to pop by my ask box with something off my gush list. That's what it's there for!)

Fred Weasley - Everywhere
Tumblr media
“I cheated on you.”
“What?”
“I cheated o-“
“No, I mean what?”
Fred shuffled awkwardly on his feet, hands shoved deep into his pockets as a guilty expression overtook his face.
“I didn’t mean to.” He excused.
“How can you accidentally fuck someone else?” I asked.
We were in the Burrow for the weekend, Molly suggesting we escape the city for a small break. I think she could tell our relationship was going through a rough patch. With me constantly working in Scotland, and Fred tied up in London, we’d barely seen each other the past couple months.
He didn’t respond, opening and closing his mouth a number of times before sighing deeply. “I was lonely, you were away for months on end-“
“So this is my fault?” I gaped.
“No! No, I didn’t mean...I just...” he stumbled over his words as he began to pace the small room of the living room.
“So...tell me about it then.” I demanded as I took a seat in the armchair.
“You want to know?” He asked. I nodded. “It was a girl we hired last month in the store, her name’s Lucy. I stayed late one night, I never like going home when you aren’t there...she came in to book holiday off, one thing led to another and...”
I crossed my arms. “How can booking holiday...lead to sex?”
“We didn’t actually have sex, if that makes things better.” His eyes widened with his words: he’d said the wrong thing.
“Better? Better!” I yelled. “Oh this makes everything better! At least you didn’t fuck another women, not properly anyway!”
“Would you be quiet?” He hissed.
“Am I embarrassing you?” I laughed. “Do you find this awkward?”
“No, I just don’t want to wake up mum.” He said.
“No, you don’t want her to know what a dickhead her son is.” I snapped.
He stared down at me for a second, as though his mind was coming up with an insult, until he realised he was in the wrong.
I stood, arms still folded, and walked to the fire. “What did you do then?” I asked as I looked into the flames.
“I don’t think-“
“I have a right to know which parts of your body she’s tainted.” I snapped, looking at him directly.
He sighed again. “She...sucked me off, and I...touched her.”
“Touched her where?”
“Everywhere.”
I blinked back tears and bit down on my lip, slowly nodding. “Did you like it?”
“No.”
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t lie, of course you did.”
“Not as much as with you.” He whispered.
“Thanks, real compliment there.” I sarcastically said.
“Y/N...” he hummed out. We stood for a moment, him looking at me, and me looking into the fire. I didn’t want him to see the tears that were quickly gathering in the corners of my eyes. “What happens now?”
“We break up, obviously.” I cooly said.
“I don’t want to though.” He said timidly.
“I don’t really care what you want.” I mumbled back, running my hands through my hair.
“Do you really want to break up?” He asked, warily approaching me.
“Yes...no...I don’t know.” I sighed. “All I know is I don’t want to see you.”
“What does that mean?”
“I don’t know Fred, all I know is the man I thought loved me fucked - fingered - another women.” I corrected myself.
He grimaced at my words. “Don’t use that word.”
“It’s the truth.”
“Why can’t we use another word for it? Like...handled.” He suggested.
I finally looked at him. “Handled? You handled her?”
“Better than fingered.” He shrugged.
“But you didn’t handle her, Fred, you put your hands everywhere.” I sadly quoted him.
He seemed taken aback by my face. The tears had slipped and fell down my cheeks, my nose red, lip quivering as I said the words. He wasn’t used to seeing me so sad, usually I was a master at masking my sadness.
“I’m sorry.” It was the first time he’d apologised. “I’m so sorry.”
“Was it me? Were you unhappy with me?” I quietly asked.
“No,” he said. “I think that’s why I did it: because I wanted you but couldn’t have you.”
I nodded understandingly. “You shouldn’t have done it.”
“I know.”
“I could’ve fucked loads of other men.” I said. “I had a guy last week at a bar asking me back to his place. I nearly went...but I didn’t, because I just pictured you and my heart stopped me.”
“You’ve always been better than me.” He admitted.
“That’s true.” I agreed.
We stayed silent for a while longer. “I need to know what you’re thinking.”
I raised my thumb to my mouth and began biting the nail. “Does she look like me?”
“No...not really, she’s blonde...”
“Oh for fucks sake, she’s blonde.” I groaned. “Of course she’s blonde.”
“What’s wrong with that?” He asked confused.
“It just makes everything worse, doesn’t it?” I snapped, chewing my nail again.
“What are we going to do about this weekend? Should we leave?” He asked.
“I don’t know Fred,” I sighed, placing my head in my hands. “I think I’m going to go back to London and pack a few things, then I’ll go to mum for a few weeks and think.”
Fred nodded and agreed, watching as I stood and slipped on my boots and coats. The bags from our arrival earlier were still by the front door, as if I knew I wouldn’t be here long. I stood, clutching my small travel bag in hand.
As I was about to walk out Fred’s voice spoke up. “You’ll come back, right? Even if it’s to tell me you hate me...you’ll come back?”
“Yeah...” his sad eyes looked at me. “I love you.”
His eyes glimmered with hope. “I love you, dearly.”

alright, i don't even know if i ever talked about obey me on this blog but i have some ~feelings~ about this event and it's kinda making me feel like i'm breaking apart so here goes nothing
OH and also spoiler warning for obey me up to chapter 21 and the angel event
anyways this was,,, upsetting, this event made me rethink a LOT of things about simeon  and diavolo mostly, but really about the game as a whole, this feels way worse than what i got used to from this game in a way i can't really understand yet
first of all we have the way it happened, with diavolo making the bros dress up as angels even tho none of them were really that comfortable with it (except asmo but i'll think about that later), like,, we know the guy doesn't really understand or respect people's boundaries, himbo energy and all, but also the last time they looked like that their sister DIED, and also simeon who seemed like the one who'd be okay about not being dick to the demons (at least when compared to luke) and does a full 180 into mind controlling them against their wills into exagerated "angelic" personas. Simeon always had a trickier side but it's scary seeing him knowingly trick people into something they'd never want because of Michael's orders, especially since I saw him as the more rebellious angel.
The ending was also terrifying, and probably half of the reason this event hurt so much, in that it Didn't end. We don't see the bros go back to normal, except Luci apparently having broken the mind control offscreen through unseen means, which is extremely suspicious. We don't get to see how they actually feel about this once it's done, even Lucifer doesn't act right for having apparently lived through his worst fear (don't quote me on that tho i just read it from the post i reblogged). What I didn't see anyone talk about either is Luke's reaction, he was happy about it at the beginning sure, but I feel like it means something that he was also uncomfortable at the end. He basically popped in only to say that, so it feels important: even Luke, who blindly believes what the Celestial Realm has told him and hates demons, feels uncomfortable about the bros being made to act more "angelic". If this really is setting the tone for season 3, we might be able to expect some character development.
We as the players also couldn't really do anything, which makes sense because if we were able to change much that couldn't have carried over between the scenes but even in game, the two options are to enable that bullshit or watch on in abject horror. Even in-universe, the MC is powerless to stop anything in this even. This probably adds to how foreboding and uncomfortable the whole thing is and to the whole feeling that the boys are being controlled and nothing can reach them. It feels more like they're just,, performing tasks, rather than having actually changed.
Even the things the brothers did feel... off? Not like what they'd actually do even if they were trying to be better? It really starts being obvious with Levi giving you things that make him happy instead of trying to have a better relationship with his passions, or Mammon selling all his stuff to give money to human children as though that's not already something he's doing, or Beel giving away food but also still saying at one point he's hungry so is he starving??? is he in pain??? when his whole character is already centered around self sacrifice and how much he cares for his family??? Even Belphie going back to clean what was basically his prison and Asmo acting like he was a bad person or "conceited" for owning a thousand self-care products even though he was already more than enthousiastic to share doesn't sit right with me. We don't even KNOW what Satan did other than be uncomfortable about a big part of him being taken away (which he SHOULD).
TL;DR This feel like a surface level understanding of what their flaws are and how to "fix" them, which might be the point. Those bangles were not on any level an act of kindness, nothing in that even was what should happen, from Simeon and Diavolo who can't see the problem when even LUKE can, to the "good manners" going completely against both their flaws and their qualities, to the impossibility to help even the slightest amount and the lack of a reassurance that everything is okay in the end. This whole event is setting a really dark tone for what the Celestial realm could be. I can't tell if there's actually gonna be any lore implications or if we're just gonna have to stay mildly disturbed by this. I like how this event made the theories fly and had some big implication, bc I'm a slut for a good story; but it was also a very uncomfortable , they did a good job making the characters act like they're not themselves and i can't help wondering what this is setting a precedent for
(also this event brought back some religious trauma i never knew i had so??? thanks i hate it??? good job activating my fight or flight response???not the devs fault but it's nice that they caught exactly the complaints about christianity i had)

Ik you might be annoyed by now and im really sorry! Can i give my 2 cents about the lucifer birthday drama? I feel like people are forgeting that this game is new! The game was JUST released in december 2019! Its totaly normal that the game devs are gonna wanna try some new things! And I also think its possible that they might've just recently come up with the idea, and to me, it makes sence that they'd start this new thing with Lucifer! Just because he's the oldest! Idk about japan culture but+
Tumblr media
I have no problem with you expressing your opinion to me as long as you stay polite and respectful which you did and I’m thankful for that 🥰
To respond to you I’m gonna quote some parts of your ask to make sure everything stays in order I hope you don’t mind !
Small Disclaimer : I do not hate Lucifer’s character nor the Devs ! Please make sure you know and remember that before reading.
You said : “I feel like people are forgeting that this game is new! The game was JUST released in December 2019 !”
So in a few days the games is going to be six months old, so while he is fairly new he has still been working for half a year and he also belongs to SWD who is certainly not new. Birthday events are not a new things around here so even if the Devs are different they should have heard about the birthday events before.
You said : “And I also think its possible that they might've just recently come up with the idea”
Like I said before I’m okay with the twins (my two favorite brothers) not getting anything because at the time the game was about three months old and yes maybe it was too soon for them to implement such a big event.
However when the twins birthday happened people complained about not having anything to celebrate on the game beside a special quote if only you had them on your mainscreen. So again Devs who already knew about birthday events were again reminded of them. Same happened during Levi’s birthday.
Events are confirmed to be pre-planned and there was certainly not enough time between Asmodeus’s and Lucifer’s birthday to plan a full-on event like that. Which means the development for the Lucifer event started before Asmodeus’s birthday and they just decided to deliberately ignore everything about him in favor of Lucifer as they often do, which one of the biggest issue of the game right now.
You said : “It makes sense that they'd start this new thing with Lucifer ! Just because he's the oldest”
I’m sorry I’m going to be the dumb one but where is this logical?! This excuse, for me, would have worked only if the brothers’s birthdays were scattered throughout the year in the same order as their age.
For example : Lucifer is born in January, Mammon in April, Levi in June, Satan in August, Asmo in October and finally the twins in December.
But they are not. So why bother waiting to start with the oldest for the order to break not on the next birthday but the one after. What would have changed if they started everything with Asmo ?
Or else they’re gonna do Mammon’s birthday, then jump over Satan’s and the twins’s (a second time) to get to Levi ? And then what Asmo’s will again be ignored along with Lucifer and Mammon to get to Satan. Only to jump over the twins’s birthday a THIRD time, then Levi’s to finally get some Asmo content etc.
Doesn’t seem really practical but that’s the only way this excuse would ever sound valid. For me they could have just said we’re starting with Lucifer because we want to and I would’ve taken it better honestly.
(I’m not gonna say anything about oldest child privileges because I don’t know every culture in the world, I would be mostly inclined to say that the youngest often have more privileges but who knows?)
THE REAL ISSUE HERE
The problem with most people here is the Devs’s blatant favoritism for Lucifer during events, during the main story or even in text messages. People are getting fed up that their favorite brother, especially Asmodeus’s and Satan’s stans, are never getting any attention when Lucifer is getting a lot of spotlight instead (and is often pushed onto MC who is always forced to find him attractive or even have feelings for him).
The birthday event only made this worse because we literally went from 0 to 1000 in the span of two/three weeks, WEEKS. The issue here is Lucifer got all of these things when Asmo, for whom the fandom was already calling out the overlook, got nothing. Nothing stopped the Devs from giving everyone 30 DPs like they did for Lucifer OR raising the odds to get Asmo cards more easily like they did for Lucifer OR holding a special sale like they did for Lucifer.
As you have seen I’ve only said “OR” because people were not asking for an entire event like they did for Lucifer they just wanted one small thing to indicate that they were thinking about implementing birthday events.
Also a big issue I personally have here is the fandom saying “It’s okay they’re gonna give it to everyone you just have to wait” and sometimes not in respectful terms. People don’t seem to realize what can happen in a year : A player could finish high school and start college, another one could start working their first full-time job, another could maybe have a baby and someone could loose someone really dear to them. With everything happening around them I could understand why they wouldn’t hold onto a game that never seemed to really care about them and their wishes just for a birthday event.  A year is a long time. This was just not a good move.
I hope everything I said will not be taken in a wrong way, everything I said is supposed to be respectful and I’m not in any case trying to change your opinion about things. You’re entitled to your opinion just as I am to mine.
However I have to say, to both sides of this argument :
DO NOT SEND HATE
Do not send hate to people who like Lucifer, do not send hate to people who dislike him, do not send hate to people who are calling out his favoritism nor to people who don’t really care about it. Just do not send hate, be respectful of everyone and their opinions and they shall be respectful to yours.
Also shameless promo but @thelazystrawberryboi did an awesome fan art of the four forgotten birthday brothers and I recommend you check it out.
Now goodbye I’m going back to Luci’s birthday headcanons ! ❤️

Alright, this will be my review for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes so obviously spoilers under the cut.
Also obviously, this is my opinion, I force no one to share it and I’m happy to discuss the book with anyone who wants to.
First off, I won’t go into all the deep themes in the books. It seems obvious to me there’s a very clever allegory for a contrat social at work here but since I am not very much interested in that, I will leave it aside. It’s well done, I think, but I am more a character driven sort of reader than theme driven and the debate over “are we the product of our environment or is man a beast at heart” is a bit null here. Surely enough, as one of the quotes at the beginning implies, the whole book more or less struggles to show Dr Gaul somehow turns Coryo into a monster to her Frankenstein… Sure, he seems to hesitate between right and wrong, the nature of the two etc etc. But, really, I have troubles relating to a character questioning the nature of man when that character is so plainly a psychopath himself.
I’m sorry. I said it.
Did I love Snow in this book? Sure. Even when he was being bad, I loved him. What’s not to love? He’s completely over-dramatic. All the time. He’s a complex character with Draco Malfoy vibes and who tries to do well by his family. But he is also sick in the head and that predates Dr Gaul’s little mind games. Can we argue it’s because of his traumatic childhood? Maybe. It doesn’t change the fact he equals love with possession, does not seem to experience remorse nor guilt – or at least not very long and he’s  very quick to rationalize it – and has a natural ability to mimic or force himself to act as is expected in any given situation. He doesn’t react  to things, you will notice, he behaves the way he thinks people expects him to.
So, he is sick. And since he is sick, the whole debate through his head about the nature of violence, men being beasts without laws, freedom versus enforcement, right and wrong, etc seems void.
Let’s leave that aside for now.
The question you will probably ask me is: did you like the book? And the answer I will give is yes I did. I did enjoy the book. At least the first two third of it.
It’s fast paced, it’s engaging, it’s easy to read…
What I like most is the worldbuilding. What a difference a 3rd pov makes… I mean we finally got all the world building we deserved. And the names. Actually, there were so many names in there I’m pretty sure she threw them as a joke. But, yeah. Everything I reproach Thg was fixed here: we have a more consistent idea of how the Games work out of the arena, we know the currency used is dollars (which we didn’t up until now), we have a  better idea of how the Capitol works as a society, about the working of Peacekeepers and Districts… I quite enjoyed learning more about the 1st war and the post war world too.
I also enjoyed the Capitol families Cameos – and I was very wary about them if you read some of my posts pre-released. They were nice nods, it wasn’t too on the nose…  I am relieved beyond measure not to have seen a mention of an Abernathy or a Trinket – or an Everdeen or a Mellark, I guess – mostly because that means we are still free to stick to our own hcs. (it’s not that important but still).
The cast of characters were all great – with two notable exceptions but I will come back to that.
I loved Snow’s family. What a surprise to find out Tigris is a Snow? But what joy she is. I really enjoyed her character but I have to say I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see (or at least were told in the epilogue) how they grow apart or how she comes to have whiskers. The Grandma’am was an awesome addition too. Lucy Gray, the Coveys, the Peacekeepers, Sejanus, the other mentors…  They were great.
I will argue that maybe Lucy Gray, as a main character (second main character? She’s the yin to his yang in this book) could have been more fleshed out because when it comes down to it, she seems to float around in the story only in relation to Snow. This being said and the pov being mostly Snow’s, it’s coherent with his egocentric view of the world. And I’m sure a lot of people will argue the case that her only purpose being to die so he can get over love is a bit problematic better than I could.
The two characters that I think were disappointing were the “villains” of the tale: Dr Gaul and Highbottom. They were actually so disappointing that I spent a good portion of the book convinced that here was some kind of secret plot, that there would be a conspiracy or something. But no, they were just that… flat.
Highbottom first: the creator of the Hunger Games who, obviously, didn’t mean to and ends up doctoring himself with morphling to forget. And seems to hate Coryo (yes that’s Snow’s nickname) for no obvious reason. I was sure there must be some twist but no, it just turned out he hates Snow because his father stole his Hunger Games idea to pitch it to Gaul for a grade and now he’s responsible for the death of kids. Which, I mean, is valid. But since it’s only here to bring into contrast the “is Snow really bad or have the circumstances make him bad” when, really, he’s a psycho, it ends up being very disappointing on discovery – never mind as the final reveal of the epilogue.
As for Gaul. Is she terrifying? I mean, for a young adult book, sure, I guess. She’s too obviously mean and crazy scientist for me though. I like my villains a little more subtle. She spent her times torturing her pet rabbit and various animals ffs. All she needed was a mustache to twirl. She’s cliché and, again, I’m sure it was like that for rhetoric purposes but… She’s Frankenstein and Snow is her creature, we get it. Why though? She takes a shine to him and proceeds to groom him so he can deliver the world she wants? So he’s her legacy? Because she’s a psycho too and she needs an apprentice? I thought that part was a little fishy because, at the end of the day… I don’t know, it seems a bit random.
But, I suppose, yet again, everything has to revolve around Snow in the book and in Panem.
And we’re touching to the part that annoyed me to death, that really really angered me and that, right now as we speak, I am a little disgusted by.
A short word first about the fan service. And there was plenty of that to go around. All the little wink wink, nudge nudge made me smile at first (like the grandma saying it only takes a spark for fire to catch, that sort of things), it was subtle so it worked. But as the book goes on, all the references built to the point I was sort of terrified Katniss would end up being related to Snow. And while she is not, I am fairly convinced she’s descended from the Coveys, it makes a lot of sense.
Ok… Where to start with that part and be coherent…
The less offensive (yes, I am using that word because it was offending to me) thing was Snow’s recurring reflection about the mockingjays. On hindsight, of course, it has so much more meaning than what is going on on paper, so it made sense and while it was a bit sold too thick, it was also interesting. That’s something I’m willing to grant was good.
I also liked the “it’s not over until the Mockingjay sings” saying. To be honest, I was 100% confident the epilogue would be a flashforward to the end of MJ and that quote would somehow come back into play but apparently not, that’s for us to fanfic instead.
Now, as for the rest… I am going to speak as someone who loves Haymitch Abernathy an unhealthy amount, and while I speak as someone who loves Haymitch, I also feel it is only minorly about Haymitch and a lot about Katniss, Peeta and the rest of the victors. But Haymitch is my favorite character in the series, Haymitch is a big part of why I have dedicated so much time writing fanfics and contributing to the fandom, I am very protective of Haymitch. And, on his behalf, I am so deeply, deeply offended.
In this book, Suzanne Collins makes Snow a victor.
We can argue the semantics. Naturally, he didn’t actually win the Hunger Games.
Or does he?
Because there are no winners, only survivors and by that very definition Coriolanus Snow is a victor.
Coriolanus Snow walked into an arena, was forced into the arena.
Coriolanus Snow fought in the arena.
Coriolanus Snow killed someone in the arena.
Coriolanus Snow walked back out of the arena.
He survived.
It makes him a de facto victor. He is actually literally called that a couple of times throughout the book. It’s reinforced by the idea that mentor and tribute are a team, even.
And this very idea that Snow is a victor, has been a victor all along, is so deeply, deeply upsetting to me. The bond between victors, it’s something very special, I feel. Victors share something nobody else can understand – my very favorite part of the whole series is in Catching Fire when they hold hands, it is such a strong emotional moment, it always moves me, always. And Snow being a part of that defiles it. Worse, that means a victor was actually the one imposing such horrors on other victors all along.
And that’s… I mean, probably in terms of themes and the story as an independent object, it’s all very ironic and dark and full of great meaning about man and it’s condition. But for someone who loves Haymitch, it is very deeply offending to learn the man who has taken everything from him went through the same experience he did, that they share that bond, that they have so many similarities.
Too many similarities actually. And here we are going to branch out on TBOSAS in relation to Katniss more specifically.
That’s another thing I am not sure I liked: how similar Snow’s conditions were to our beloved characters. The starvation, the very similar experience they had growing up.
At first, I didn’t mind it. I thought, even, that it was quite fitting. But the problem came when so much of Katniss’ story was being… stolen, turned around. It started feeling like this book was subverting the powerful story in THG, not just the main plot, but everlark, and the character building. So, of course, here again, it’s probably a matter of questioning if, stemming from the same conditions, you become a hero or a villain. Nature or nurture. That sort of things. And, again, it depends if you look at the big picture and analyze it calmly or if you react with your guts as a fan, I guess. Yeah, no surprise, I’m going the fan route.
So there were a lot of parallels to Katniss.
The starvation. The strong sense of family. Lucy and the singing…
And it wasn’t limited to Katniss, it touched to everlark too.
The star-crossed lovers thing comes to mind obviously (and I want to talk about the ship too but after). Then, there was the bread thing that was both Snow’s and Lucy’s favorite and the fact that Snow brings her food all the time.  The poison in the arena we can land at snow’s door since it’s his weapon of choice, but still poison in the arena, my mind goes straight to the berries… (I will tackle the hanging tree song after)
At this point (before she goes in the arena), I was still mostly okay with it because I thought it would somehow have a reason later. Like either Katniss would turn out to be related to Lucy or it would remain light enough to turn out to be foreshadowing for THG.
Then came part 3. And that’s where the book mostly lost me.
There are eleven other Districts in Panem. So why Twelve? And if it had to be Twelve why pollute everything Katniss loves? How are we supposed to see those things the same way again when we know what we now know?
The meadow? The meadow where the toastbabies are dancing and running? Where so many people are laid to rest? Snow has been there, kissed his girl there. And let me tell you, as a Haymitch fan, knowing that Haymitch never gets to reunite with his girl in the meadow because of Snow, it’s a special kind of pain to read Coryo frolicking there in the grass “with his girl”.
And then, of course, I don’t know what is worse… The lake or the song?
Let’s start with the lake. Where do I begin? The lake that is so special to Katniss? The little shack where she stocks everything? The lake that features into so many fanfictions and that, if some people feel the same way I do, can never be used again the same way? So, that lake was where Snow murdered (possibly) his “love”. The lake, thus, becomes a part of Snow’s narrative.
It’s stolen away from Katniss.
And to better stress that point? The scene with the Mockingjays taking up the hanging tree when Lucy is about to get murdered. (let’s make a digression to say oh boy how fun it must have been for Snow during mj, I’m very tempted to fanfic THAT). It’s all very full of symbolism, of course, but with the hindsight? It’s another great important moment stolen away from Katniss. Highjacked. Not unlike a mutt, actually. This book is a mutt XD
Which brings me to what really, really made me angry: the hanging tree song.
That song is so symbolic of MJ and everlark. I mean, there’s one thing I will give MJ the movie and that’s this scene with the song. The people attacking the dam and getting butchered while humming that song? Iconic. But more prosaically, book based, that song is such such a powerful moment. It’s special. And not only because of all the thing with everlark and the tree and midnight.
And suuuuure there might be a lot of symbolism in that song being not strictly about but still intimately related to Snow. Sure. But you know? It’s also another thing that now is about Snow. So even as Katniss was singing that song, getting the Districts to rebel, showing Peeta that District 12 was gone, letting the Mockingjays by the lake take up the chorus… It isn’t just about hope or freedom anymore. Now, it’s about Snow and about how terribly ironic it is this particular song comes to be his demise, how it’s fate or karma or whatever you want to call it. Because now, we can’t unread this book, we can’t unknown what we know.
And I hate that.
Because Katniss’ journey in THG? It’s now so deeply linked to Snow’s story that if you take a step back and think, it’s more all about Snow than it is about her, or her sister or the Districts. Snow lands on top, right?
And you know what really irks me?
The book is actually good as a character study book (not really so much as dystopia because in terms of actual plot, I feel there was really little) but it didn’t have to taint so many elements of THG the way it does.
Let’s say for a moment Snow isn’t Snow. Let’s say he is a wealthy Capitol fallen from grace and that character who is not going to be the President of Panem has the same journey Coryo does. Let’s say at the end of the story, he moves on to become a famous Head Gamemaker or a close advisor to the President?
Well, the themes explored then remained the same, the conclusions remained the same. We lose the visceral signification of his connection to the mockingjays but is that really important? The Hanging Tree now has a resonance for another character in that world, the meadow has probably seen countless lovers reunions and someone killed someone else at the lake, those things happen. The problem is they happen to Coriolanus Snow.
And baring that, let’s say we keep Snow as a main, why did it have to be Twelve? Again, there are eleven other Districts in Panem. He could have come to the very same conclusions in any other place.
Twelve is only relevant in relation to what happens in THG, to Katniss, to Peeta, to Haymitch.
Lucy and the Covey could have ended up stuck in any other Districts. It didn’t have to be Twelve. It didn’t have to spoil the Meadow, or the lake or even the Hanging Tree song.
Is that why Snow hates Twelve so much? Is that why he kills Haymitch’s family even if it’s completely stupid and leaves him without a leash around a Quell’s victor’s neck? Is that why he bombs the Districts into complete oblivion ? Not to punish its victors but because he so intimately hates the place? Because he walked in their very shoes? Because, for a brief time, from his Frankenstein’s experiment, he played in the mud?
For that matter, is that why he has this weird relationship with Katniss? Because she reminds him of Lucy? The similarities are there if you look…  Is Katniss a sort of ghost to him? Come back to haunt him after all those decades? Is that why it feels so personal between them?
I will say a quick word about the ship: I was into it at first. Then there was this scene at the zoo after the snake attack on Clemmie and I felt everything started going downhill from there. The ship is rushed. They go from attraction to love in ten seconds FLAT. I know it’s YA and concessions have to be made (although I will argue I read plenty of YA and some ships don’t seem this juvenile), I made them on account of the fact they’re both young and prone to being drama queens.
(I’m making a brief parenthesis because, rereading this, I realized I did say when the book announcement came out and we all very obviously predicted the romance, that as a hayffie fan I hated the thought Snow would have a Capitol/District romance, but on that account, I have to say after reading I don’t even care because it felt so immature and so not actual love, that I don’t feel it really counts? But at the same time, it’s definitely something I have to think upon in terms of hayffie and Snow because would his own experience play in the way he sees them/manipulates/threatens them?)
All in all, though, that ship didn’t convince me. I couldn’t believe it was real. On either part. On Snow’s part because I’m  not certain he’s capable of love. He equals love with possession,  “his” girl, she “belongs” to him, he liked her better locked in the zoo because he knew where to find her, he constantly questions Lucy’s loyalties… Every  time she sings something, he’s like “is it about me? Is it about me? It’s not about me? Who is it about? I hate her. She’s dead to me. Oh but now she’s singing she’s over him. So I love her again”. Being in his head is a journey, let me tell you.
As for Lucy, it’s frustrating. But with Collins, I learned long ago to be frustrated (hey, hayffie fan here XD. You know the two characters you need to build your own hc about if you want to use them with some depths). You can feel there’s this whole backstory about her but we never get to really touch that and so we’re treated to this very strange scene with the ex-lover but we don’t really care because there is  no passion, nowhere… In fact, as a character, outside of her singing, her being a show girl, and her little discourse about how man should be free, live and let live yada yada yada, Lucy’s character is very flat in the third part of the book. She’s here only to allow Coryo’s character development.
I would argue that Sejanus actually makes more of an impact on Snow and the general plot than she does in part 3 – or, if you think about it, in the book in general. Lucy is the trigger that gets Coryo’s reflection starting about the hunger games but it’s really Sejanus that challenges it and keeps it going. Sejanus is, in fact, the District character since Snow keeps telling himself the Covey aren’t really Twelve.
I  also want to say, on a completely unrelated note, that the constant mansplaying of songs by Snow was unbearable. And that’s not his fault. So, Mrs Collins, I know how to interpret a text thank you. And I’m sure everyone else does to. It broke the pace and the emotion so much for me when he started randomly explaining. The Lucy Gray ballad was the worst. “she’s dead.” NO KIDDING SHERLOCK.
And while we’re in that Lucy Gray thing: very subtle foreshadowing here, btw. Didn’t see it coming at all.
Ah and also something that made me cringe and that I felt was very out of place: the livestock cars and the cages at the zoo. Not to go all social justice warrior but when I read, it immediately hit home and not in the right way. It felt like a prop to stress how inhumane and racist the Capitol was being, they were easy references to loaded terrible horrifying history events and I truly, truly thought it was borderline because, like I said, it was used as a prop.
To conclude.
Is this book great? Yes and No.
I think if you take it independently of THG, it’s a very good book. It’s interesting, the characters are compelling, there is a moral for you to reflect on… It’s not the best dystopian book I’ve read in recent years, it’s not the best young adult book I’ve read in this lockdown (Hi, do yourself a facor, check out the Shadow of the Fox trilogy and then come shout at me in my ask box) but it was still a good read. And I forgot to say but the first half of the novel is actual crack. It was hillarious. Might not have been the intent but come on. It was funny. (and I’m satly they sent him in the arena but they sent him with a can of pepper spray and that will make me laugh forever) I had  a good time and, at the end of the day, that’s what you ask of novels.
However, in the general context of the series, loving thg as much as I do, it tainted some of the iconic things, twisted them, insulted some of my most favorites characters, and that really dampened my joy and made me angry. So as a fan… I’m not sure I can say it was great, no.
It certainly didn’t let me indifferent though and that’s already something.
And, I mean, it is so much better than the cursed child I feel I cannot complain too much.
It also does leave the door rather open to a sequel, doesn’t it? I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another announcement soon.

Who is the little spoon?
Although it is admittedly more Muu than it is Hannah, there are also variables to consider. Since Muu is typically the more emotionally fragile and somber of the two while he works things out within himself, he finds himself being held more than he holds her. In the event it is her who needs the added consoling, or it just feels like he hasn't been in the position of big spoon in a while, that tends to be when he takes over. Other times he just really wants to cling onto her back more than he wishes for her to do it to him because he finds it equally as comforting as it finds it amusing to be a bit of a koala in those circumstances.
Who sings in the shower?
Muu. Out of any song it could possibly be, his latest is White Woman's Instagram by Bo Burnham. He's having a one man concert all by himself, so don't judge.
Who plays pranks on the other?
Both of them; however, Hannah is definitely better at getting results with hers whereas Muu is typically discovered very early on by not being as thoughtful and observant as he might think he is.
Who is the one who listens to pop music?
Both of them. Muu, though, even as his diverse as his music taste is, tends to listen to a lot of basic pop music made by performers that Hannah typically doesn't based on the fact that their morals don't align with her own. Muu, for example, is a big fan of Taylor Swift of all people due to her mainly romantic based lyrics. Hannah on the other hand wouldn't dare to stoop to that level of music taste when she could be supporting someone much better with her time and money instead.
Who brings the other a random cup of joe?
Hannah. If Muu's doing it, it is definitely a homemade version of someone he saw someone ordering from Starbucks on Tiktok. Most of which are overly sugary and in need of some further adjustments as he attempts to make the entire thing as close to vegan as he can manage, but the thought is there. Hannah on the other hand does it with the purpose of just being considerate and domestic along with the process of prepping the two of them for the day, or by trying to just get a smile out of Muu in general, so she would do it with more consistently and care than he might.
Who picks the cheesy movies for date night?
Both. They can be a little limited in content they can mutually watch together as certain topics for either partner are a must to be avoided, and that usually requires a lot of prior made effort and research, so romantic comedies, or comedies in general, are usually a much safer bet than a drama or horror film would be. Plus they tend to be so hilariously mushy that they have fun repeating the most laughable yet cringy lines to one another for their own amusement.
Who is more likely to feed the other in public?
Hannah. I can guarantee this woman has caught herself going as far as cutting food up for him out of familiarity of taking care of Lucy, as well as himself even from the time they were only teens. She is a doting wife to be, and this man has no qualms about being seen eating from a fork she holds out for him. On the flipside, if it is something he has personally made by hand to expand his cooking skills in an organic and plant based direction, you can bet he is right there to feed her a bite in order to gain feedback on his work. Don't think she gets off too easy. Especially when they do end up moving onto the next step of having a baby together, and needs someone to assist in taste testing the homemade baby food he plans on making.
Who gives the other random little compliments?
Hannah. This woman just breathes out positive affirmations, and Muu is right there to receive them every time.
Who is always stealing food from the other’s plate?
Hannah. Muu is very particular about what he eats on behalf of cutting out all meat and as dairy for sensory and health reasons, so he doesn't really pick from other people's plates to maintain that. If she eats French fries around him, he's definitely stealing a couple though.
Who is more likely to let the other borrow their car?
Neither since Muu can't drive and really has no ambition to learn since driving gives him an incredible amount of anxiety. He has no problems with managing his own way to places via the public transportation system, or by bike.
Who makes the list before they go grocery shopping?
They are both very practical in writing their own lists to follow for when they grocery shop for their own reasons, and yet both are equally as guilty of putting in snacks they didn't anticipate buying simply because it sounds good. Worse even when Lucy, and someday Daisy, is out shopping with them, because what babies want, babies get. That is at least what Muu holds himself to no matter how many times Lucy has to remind him of how old she is.
Who makes sure the other takes their meds when sick?
Hannah. Same way with making sure enough rest and hydration is being considered as well. Her immune system is also better than his is on account of him working in education and catching germs quite often, and because of her being what she is in general. He's also quite the baby when ill. Definitely has this man asked her to make him some soup that then had to be fed to him because he was supposedly too tired and sickly to move his arm to do it himself.
Who watches sports and has to teach the other the rules?
Muu. He may have gotten a tad bit too invested into Women's basketball after a player in the sport showed up on his fyp on Tiktok. His initial reasons for taking up watching the sport as a whole was just to support her career, and to admire tall, beautiful women that could either carry him, or beat him up with their muscular limbs, but eventually he managed to pick up more about the rules of the sport with each watch. He's attempted to then share that knowledge with Hannah, who just listens on account of just wanting to hear him talk about what he enjoys.
Who pulls the other to their feet for a dance in the living room?
Muu. The man definitely loves his music. Hannah, however, is the one more likely to pull him in for hugs, such as comforting him when he is sad, as well as to bring him in close to her to present the mood of intimacy. These two have maybe managed to turn playful dances or attempt at wrestling with one another into full on sexual intercourse s couple of times. Neither is really sorry.
Who has to keep reminding the other to hurry or they’ll be late?
Muu. By God, if he is told a time that they will be leaving at, she had better bet that they really be out the door at least a couple minutes prior to that earlier discussed time, because he can not stand to not follow through with those things. It is a habit tied to him being autistic that will prove to be the most fun when they try and get out to places as parents with a baby.
Who is the one most likely to get a tattoo with the other’s name?
Neither would really go as far as to get each other's names permanently tattooed on them, but they' definitely consider something more along the lines of a symbol, or quote that best describes their relationship. Muu has considered the idea that they split the phrase "You are never too much for someone who can't get enough of you" into "You are never too much" and "Someone can't get enough of you" into a couple's tattoo idea. He already decided he'd get his on his side since he just likes the appeal of them. Actually he'd probably get a couple of them. Another one he'd want is of the wire robot in the Save Me by Gotye music video while she gets the other once, since, even today, that song still reminds him so much of how she has been there for him over the years that he can't help but think of her every time he hears it

hello ! So i just watched 3x08 ((and for a lot of reasons i find this episode so frustrating to watch)) but i wanted to know what you thought of marion ? and do you think rio killed boomer ? like is he FINALLY dead for sure ? (i havent watched the rest of s3 yet)
Hello, anon! That’s actually an episode I really love, but I totally get why you find it frustrating too. It’s a complicated episode that reveals this really pivotal evolution in the girls’ overall relationship to not just Rio as a boss, but crime more broadly, but also circles the drain with Boomer’s character in particular. But yes! Your questions, haha.
Thoughts on Marion
I actually find Marion pretty compelling as a character, in no small part because the show often leans in and keeps the worst parts of her close to the surface. She might be a lonely, vulnerable woman, abandoned by the bulk of her family, but she’s also blatantly racist, deceptive, manipulative, bitter, and a horrible enabler for Boomer. All of this stretches her veneer of bubbly, senile babble in a way that feels pretty authentic to me. It helps that she’s played by June Squibb, who really should be a lot more known than she is (everyone should watch Nebraska if they haven’t already!)
I think her relationship with Boomer is actually super interesting. I like that it’s used to simultaneously humanise Boomer, occasionally call him out, and reveal just how parasitic he is in equal measure. That’s not an easy balance to strike, and I think the writers, directors and Squibb and David Hornsby do a really, really admirable job of it. I like that it works in conjunction too with Judith and Dean, and Beth and Kenny, to form this sort of triage of relationships which demonstrate just how deeply women can enable the bad behaviour of the men and the boys in their care.
The show actually has a lot to say about enablement and entitlement generally, but unfortunately the message can sometimes come out a bit garbled, haha, due to instances of flawed writing or duelling plotlines, and in that sense, I think Marion and Boomer is where the sentiment is clearest and strongest narratively. Their relationship is toxic on both ends, but it’s also one steeped in love, familiarity and deep loneliness. They’re their own worst enemies, and they make each other worse people than perhaps they’d be apart, but that doesn’t mean they don’t also have genuine moments where they make each other better too. Relationships are complicated and messy, and the show leans into that with Marion and Boomer in a way I find really rich.
I feel a little differently about Marion’s relationship with Annie. The root is really compelling to me, and I love the way that the show harnesses Marion as a means of exploring Annie’s bleeding heart, her bone-deep levels of compassion and empathy, her ceaseless sense of guilt. I also liked that the relationship was used to play with Marion’s moral greyness and demonstrate that in some ways, she was capable of being as deceptive and as parasitic as her grandson.
I had two overall issues with the Marion and Annie storyline though - the first was that I think the show betrayed Ruby by handwaving Marion’s racism. I’m glad they didn’t stop calling Marion a racist in the dialogue, sure, but I wish Annie had used her privilege to stand up to Marion, or that Ruby had called Annie out for not. This is, I think, a way that the enablement/entitlement thread was played badly, and I wish that the show had explored that part of the dynamic better.
I also wish that the show had explored a bit better why Annie felt such an affinity and duty of care for Marion. We know so, so little about the girls’ histories, and beyond the fact that the Marks’ mother was bedridden with what’s implied to be depression for a chunk of the girls’ childhood, very little about Beth and Annie’s parents in particular. I feel like Marion would’ve provided a good vehicle for the show to explore Annie’s relationship with the maternal figures and matriarchs in her life, and I’m forever a little bummed it didn’t.
But yes! Haha, sorry, that derailed a bit!
Marion was an interesting character to me, is what I was getting at, and I like that the show never really tried to make her likeable and that it let her be deeply flawed but compelling in a way that character’s her age often aren’t allowed to be.
Did Rio kill Boomer? Is he finally dead for sure?
Tragically, I think the answer to that is no, haha. To quote @sothischickshe, men can’t die on this show!!!
But also I think for the four characters we’ve had die at this point – Eddie, Jeff, Turner and Lucy – for three of them we’ve had real confirmation of their deaths. From the camera lingering on Jeff in the yard in 2.12 and the girls accidentally disposing of his body, to the linger on Turner and Stan then attending his funeral, to the girls witnessing Lucy’s death and then digging her up - - the show likes us to really know when a character’s dead. (It’s why Eddie’s end perhaps feels a little more open ended haha)
Until Boomer’s body shows up in some way, I think he’ll still be alive.
Plus, y’know, 3.08 implied Rio had a use for him. What that use is at this stage remains to be seen.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Quotes Kingdom Heats Edition (Sora)
Before I begin, I just thought I’d let you know that this could be some great fanfiction material. Like somehow, Sora found his way from the Final World to World B. He was actually summoned there to a fighter for Materia just as Young Xehanort is summoned to fight for Spiritus. Sora’s friends (except for Mickey, Donald, and Goofy) were summoned by Materia as well in hopes that fighting for her will help them find a way for them to bring Sora back home. She would send him home herself, but the power of waking is unknown to her as well as Spiritus. Well, without further ado, here are Sora’s quotes.
To other characters:
Warrior of Light: “Aren’t we on the same side?”
Garland: “It’s not all about destruction, you know!”
Firion: “I have a lot of Keyblade. Does that mean I’m like you?”
The Emperor: “Unless you have big round ears, you’re no ruler of mine.”
Onion Knight: “I started my journey at a young age, too.”
Cloud of Darkness: “Sorry, one being from the Darkness at a time.”
Cecil Harvey: “You’re a king? Are you friends with Mickey?”
Kain Highwind: “Hey, your last name reminds me of our ship.”
Golbez: “You’d be surprised how far hope can get you.”
Bartz Klauser: “Hey, my blade changes, too!”
Exdeath: “Even your name doesn’t seem right.”
Gilgamesh: “I think you and I will be good friends.”
Terra Branford: “If you don’t want to fight, I won’t make you.”
Kefka Palazzo: “Clowns. Why’d it have to be clowns?”
Locke Cole: “I have a promise to keep, too.”
Cloud Strife: “Don’t hold back, Cloud, give it all you got!”
Tifa Lockhart: “Are you still looking for Cloud?”
Sephiroth: “Not you again!”
Squall Leonhart: “You won’t get me this time, Leon!”
Rinoa Heartilly: “Nice dog. Can I pet him?”
Ultimecia: “Oh great, a Maleficent wannabe.”
Laguna Loire: “If I win, will you write something about me?”
Zindane Tribal: “It’s showtime!”
Kuja: “I know mermaid songs more cheerful than yours.”
Tidus: “How long was I away from home?”
Yuna: “I thought you were in Radiant Garden.”
Jecht: “Our next match should be in Blitz Ball.”
Shantotto: “You and Donald should talk.”
Prishe: “Fighting me barehanded? You must be tough.”
Vaan: “You may fly the skies, but I fly the stars.”
Gabranth: “I know I can win this trial.”
Vayne Carudas Solidor: “No fair, you’re not even using Drive Form!”
Lightning: “My friends are my power, too.”
Snow Villiers: “You’re not related to Riku, by any chance.”
Y’shtola Rhul: “I was trained by Merlin himself.”
Zenos yae Galvus: “How do you walk in that thing?”
Noctis Lucis Caelum: “I see, you have someone you wish to find, too.”
Ardyn Izunia: “And I thought Master Xehanort was cooky.”
Ramza Beoulve: “Let’s see who’s the better swordsman.”
Ace: “Cards? Do you know someone named Luxord?”
Sora: “It was funny the first time, but now this is getting ridiculous!”
Riku: “In the end, I guess it will always be between us.”
Kairi: “Of all people, why’d it have to be you?”
Roxas: “Time to show me... who you really are!”
Lea: “Good thing I have plenty of burn paste.”
Xion: “Xion... Just who are you, really?”
Terra: “This time, no amour.”
Aqua: “Aqua, I kept my promise.”
Ventus: “I guess our hearts meet once more.”
Young Xehanort: “It’s time to settle this!”
Shinryu: “I’ve faced worse Heartless than you.”
To Sora:
Warrior of Light: “Your Keyblade also draws on the Light.”
Garland: “Your heart is no match for my power!”
Firion: “I look forward to our hearts clashing.”
The Emperor: “Once I defeat you, your blade will serve me.”
Onion Knight: “I’ve never been a Keyblade Wielder before.”
Cloud of Darkness: “There’s more than Heartless hiding in the Darkness.”
Cecil Harvey: “I use Light as much as you do.”
Kain Highwind: “Can you throw you Keyblade as far as I can fly?”
Golbez: “You have much energy for one person.”
Bartz Klauser: “I wonder if I can copy your Keyblade.”
Exdeath: “I will use your key to open the Void!”
Gilgamesh: “Which shall win? You heart or my muscles?”
Terra Branford: “Does your Keyblade also have destructive powers?”
Kefka Palazzo: “You look like someone I can mess with.”
Locke Cole: “Don’t lose that positivity of yours.”
Cloud Strife: “Where have I seen this kid before?”
Tifa Lockhart: “Are you sure you’re okay with us fighting?”
Sephiroth: “I wonder if the Keyblade will change its mind once I defeat you.”
Squall Leonhart: “Leon? Actually, I like it.”
Rinoa Heartilly: “I hope you and this girl from your island will be happy together.”
Ultimecia: “Even the Light fades with time, my dear.”
Laguna Loire: “You brought a key to a gunfight?”
Zindane Tribal: “Some hearts were meant to be stolen.”
Kuja: “What symphony is your heart playing?”
Tidus: “Why do I feel like we’re already friends?”
Yuna: “You really see me as some fairy?”
Jecht: “Just don’t cry when you lose.”
Shantotto: “Who will fade? My stave or your blade?”
Prishe: “My Light came be as bright as yours.”
Vaan: “Your airship can go into space? Sweet!”
Gabranth: “I shall judge if your key is worthy of being a blade.”
Vayne Carudas Solidor: “Not even your light can save you from my power.”
Lightning: “Who’s idea was it make a sword shaped like a key?”
Snow Villiers: “Think you can light the darkness within me?”
Y’shtola Rhul: “I can’t wait to see what magics you have with you.”
Zenos yae Galvus: “How can you call yourself a warrior with a misshapen sword?”
Noctis Lucis Caelum: “I wonder if one of my ancestors had a Keyblade.”
Ardyn Izunia: “Let’s match the Power of the Lucii with Kingdom Hearts.”
Ramza Beoulve: “Your hair is such a cliché.”
Ace: “You’ve been lucky so far. Let’s see how far it goes.”
Riku: “I want to see how much you’ve grown since I last saw you.”
Kairi: “Don’t hold back, Sora. I’ll show you how strong I’ve become.”
Roxas: “My summer vacation is far from over.”
Lea: “I hope you’ll have the fight memorized.”
Xion: “I hope Kairi’s feeling won’t too much of a problem.”
Terra: “I can see why you and Riku are good friends.”
Aqua: “Show me the true strength of your heart.”
Ventus: “I can throw the Keyblade better than you can!”
Young Xehanort: “Even after all this, you still understand nothing.”
About Summons
Ifrit: “It’s Jafar with horns!”
Shiva: “I’m not used to the cold.”
Ramuh: “Is this what they mean by “spark of brilliance”?”
