The Way Things Go (Betrayal series) - F1 Grid

MV1 focused - side reader x Lando (relationship)

Summary: Max grew up karting her and while it took her longer to find her way into F1. Now she's here and they're side by side. But who'd have thought y/n would be the one to bring it to him. And who'd have predicted the damage it would cause?

Y/n laughs as Max manages to pick her up and swing her upside around, a challenge set by her that there was no way he could pick her up like a doll when they argued over who had better strength. He made it too easy.

"Put me down, you heathen." Y/n laughs while he grins.

The two had been feeling a bit of tension but somehow it's all over after China saw y/n P2 and Max P3. Yes he's still behind but her not winning and him not taking the win seemed to bring some sort of peace.

Being in Miami they were a little hotter and the sun seemed to bring out a very good mood within the paddock. Especially in y/n and Max.

"Max, put her down before you drop her." Rupert chuckles as Max slowly places y/n down on the ground before moving to give her a hand back up to her feet. "I didn't realise the sun in Miami would put the two of you in such a good mood."

Y/n smiles a little before her own trainer calls for her.

"Doping test, come on little runt." Andy shouts making her shift her jaw.

To say Andy has no sense of workplace persona would be an understatement. On more than one occasion y/n has tried to remind him that some people don't approve of him calling her a runt. But he's only argued it's because when he started training her she was like the smallest of the pack.

"See you later." Y/n smiles giving Max a quick hug.

It turns out that if Max was under the impression he would continue to dominant his 100% win record for Miami then he was mistaken. He also wasn't happy about it either.

"Y/n has led every free practice and she seems to just glide on this track. I've never seen someone continuously do clean lap after clean lap. Even Max has been touching the walls or cutting the tracks." Martin states seemingly in awe of the young woman's abilities. "She seems to just be a natural on this track which is incredible to watch."

"Now we get to see if she can replicate those laps for qualifying." Crofty hums not speaking so loudly but he's really rooting for her like many are. "She's still leading the standings and she's not had any loss in confidence despite not having a win for 3 races down."

"Well no win in the 3 races but best of the rest and still beating Max in the standings. I think there's also a good chance she's going to change that no win streak."

As she had in the practices, she gets through qualifying in each session at the top of the time sheets. They'd also heard blips of radio from Max who was certainly not impressed that's teammate keeps beating him each round by nearly half a second.

Sitting down in the debrief, Max only greets her with a mumble of a greeting and no eye contact, giving away the mood which contrasts her own significantly.

He got P3 after Charles pulled out some monster of a qualifying lap that was actually only 0.008 sec behind her.

Y/n decides to just focus on herself for the rest of the day though she does end up being caught by Lando and Carlos on her way out, long after Max had stomped his way through the paddock.

"Max did not look happy. You are clearly going to ruin his 100% winning record here." Carlos jokes earning a small smile and shrug. "That's good, don't be sorry. Champions are never sorry."

"I'm not sorry...who is going to apologise for winning. Max doesn't...and I won't." Y/n smirks making the two men look at each other for a moment.

"Is it too late in our friendship for me to say that's kind of hot?" Lando questions quickly being scolded and pushed away by Carlos while y/n laughs a little.

"Flattery gets you a lot of places Lando, but it'll never get you a race win while she is setting out to beat Max." Carlos states earning a smirk and a shrug.

"Maybe I'll settle for one of the other places it'll get me." Lando grins to y/n while she rolls her eyes shaking her head.

"I do not want to be a part of whatever this is." Carlos grimaces making y/n laugh and link arms with him. "How is Max? I remember being his teammate."

"Must you make it sound like such a bad thing?" Y/n asks as they walk to their cars.

"The way he goes on sometimes, it's not much of a good thing." Carlos hums before kissing her cheek. "Good luck tomorrow."

"Thank you, Carlos." Y/n smiles and as he walks off she notices Lando is very much still there. "Something you needed?"

"Want...might be a better choice of words." Lando smirks making her hum. "You're in the Hilton right?"

"Yes. Stalk much?"

"Research...Anyway, I think I should be allowed to give you a ride back. A congratulations for a pole position."

Y/n laughs and moves to the McLaren driver clearing her throat as she seems to smooth over his jacket.

"If I win tomorrow, then maybe we can celebrate." Y/n smiles then clearing her throat. "Especially if you get yourself on the podium too."

"Is that a challenge?"

"It's a goal to aim for. I'd never ask for you to aim to beat me...I'm too good for that. It would be unfair to expect the impossible." Y/n teases then patting his shoulder. "I'll see you tomorrow, Lando. Good luck."

Y/n puffs out as she gets into the car. She'd hardly seen Max ahead of the race, never mind spoken to him. He seems to be doing a very good job at actively avoiding her and while she'd be lying if she said it didn't hurt. She's got no plans of that knocking her focus.

She's here to win.

"Radio check." Ronnie speaks into her ear.

"Radio check, Ron Ron." Y/n grins then sighing.

He lists off tyre choices for other drivers before they take off on the formation lap and when she lines up again Ronnie's voice speaks into her ear once more.

"Keep it clean, y/n."

"Is there someone who won't be keeping it clean?" Y/n jokes but the lack of reply is chilling.

She gives herself a shake to knock off the idea of Charles potentially plotting something that was out fairly out of character. And she wouldn't allow the thought of Max deciding to risk a result for the team, he's not like that. The team comes first, the drivers self come second.

Engines rev as the red lights glow, one by one until a beat and suddenly they're out and the cars are zooming towards the first corner.

And while y/n was told to keep it clean. Her worst nightmare happens.

Max tags her and they both spin.

For a split second she's sure she's out, but keeping the engine going, she's only got a puncture. Though getting back onto the track, she's at the back of the field.

"He hit me! Max just fucking tagged me. What the hell was that?" She exclaims into the radio. "Fucking asshole."

"Can you bring it back?"

"Y-Yes. I can bring it back."

"Ok red flag. It's red flagged. Max took a big shunt into the barrier after hitting you. Damage to barriers, a lot of debris from both cars. There was also a bit of a domino effect because of your accident."

It takes all self-restraint to not say good. Instead her compassion takes the reign.

"Is he ok?"

"Yeah, he's getting out the car."

"Keep him away from me if he gets back to the pits while I'm there, Ronnie."

"Don't worry." Ronnie states while looking at the rest of the pit wall who very much heard the threatening undertone of her voice. "Just get yourself to the pit. It looks like you just got a puncture, the floor looks fine."

"Amazing." Y/n mumbles still ready to punch her teammate.

When she pulls into the pit lane at the back of the field, she practically jumps out the car and marches all the way up to the front of the pit lane. Anger seething in her.

"Well we heard the radio, and now we can see exactly how upset she is." Crofty states while Martin hums.

"I do think it will go down as a racing incident, but something tells me that y/n has good reason to be upset with Max. It was quite a rookie move and I'm sorry, but Max will have to take the blame for that one."

"There wasn't any pay off really. He's out the race and out the points and now y/n is going to have to fight to the front."

"I'm sure they'll get over it, teammates come together. It happens but it's not great for team morale or for inter-team dynamics. But they seemed happy enough with each other just the other day so I think we'll see them come back."

Everyone gives y/n a path to begin almost yelling at the Ronnie along with several others.

"Ok, ok. Calm down. Being angry can't undo it, but you have a race to focus on. Luckily it was first lap so you have plenty of time to refocus and just make sure you get back through the field. This is your track, do not let it get in your head." Ronnie states making her glare at him. "Go take a comfort break and just calm down, then get back in the car and be ready to race."

Y/n managed P2. Behind Lando of all people. Oh the irony of her cockiness is painful.

But given her race start she is grateful to have go on the podium at all.

Max had left the paddock by the time she debriefs and given her sour mood she wasn't exactly upset over his absence. Though the team had made several attempts to lighten her mood nothing was lifting it.

Although when she walks out after team pictures and such, she finds none other than a certain driver waiting for her, leaning against her car.

"Are you really leaning on my car? I'm currently in the mood to use anyone and everyone as target practice to run over." Y/n grumbles still sizzling with a rage but even her anger can't stop her from at least being half decent. "Congratulations on your win by the way."

"Thanks, I've already thanked Max for it. But I thought maybe you'd let me give you a shoulder to cry on."

"I'd rather have a shoulder to punch and break." Y/n smiles sarcastically while throwing her bag into her boot. "Now if you'll get out my way?"

"Y/n..." Lando states talking more softly and she sighs.

"This was my weekend and he robbed me of it." Y/n states with a frown then shaking her head. "Why is he doing this?"

Lando doesn't have anymore of an answer than anyone else does. Or at least not an answer that anyone can enjoy.

"If I can't be a shoulder...how about a method of relieving some pent up frustration?" Lando offers redirecting the subject back to his initial reason for being there in the first place. "Anyway, I think I earned a celebration for my win."

Y/n has to somewhat smile at that, only because of the man's pure audacity to push her problems to the side.

"You have some gall."

"That's not much of an answer." Lando smirks managing to pull her towards her, their faces suddenly dangerously close. "I'm going to have to start learning to read your mind."

"Good luck with that."

"Last time you wished me good luck, it came with a very big pay off for me."

"And a very big cost for me."

"I think this time you'll be repaid for that cost."

Of the many, many plates of pancakes* that were offered to the listener in magp 1-07, this one may be my favourite

When we meet TMA-Celia for the second time, she's lost her name. She was Lynne Hammond, and now she's not. She doesn't seem to remember Martin, either, but it's not clear how much of herself and her life from before the change she does remember. She's freaked out by the tape recorders that start showing up, and there's no indication that she associates them with the Institute specifically.

If Celia Ripley is, as we are clearly intended to believe or consider, the same Celia as in TMA, why is she making knowing comments about manila folders and tape recorders? Tape recorders in particular are hardly standard equipment at what seems to be mostly a text data-entry and cataloguing job. She could have said typewriters, or carbon paper. Fax machines, if we're dunking on Freddy specifically.

She says "tape recorders and manila folders." Celia Ripley is referencing The Magnus Institute, particularly the outdated technologies in use in the Archives.

Maybe she learned more from Melanie about what the recorders were and did at the Institute, sometime after MAG 190. Maybe she has those specific memories of giving her statement in MAG 100, and little else. Maybe Martin grew an apocalypse beard and she remembers everything, but just didn't recognise him out of context and in a tunnel and during A Pretty Weird Time Overall.

Maybe she stuck around with Melanie-Georgie-Basira for a while after things returned, and that's how she learned about the particular significance of tape recorders.

Maybe she found some tapes and listened to a couple hundred of them.

Or maybe she's simply an AU Celia, with a knack for oddly specific and kind of clunky comparisons, drawn into this through the powers of metafiction and string theory.

Or maybe someone filled her with spiders and sent her to finish the job of spreading Fear to this particular world.

And the reason this particular plate of textual pancakes** (short stack, butter and nightmare syrup) is one of my favourites from "Give and Take" is because I genuinely have no idea! None of these are theories because there isn't enough evidence to point me in any particular direction. It's a mystery!, Jon voice, etcetera.

If you cornered me and paid me to have an opinion about it I could say which options I thought were more likely, I guess. But the odds are high that I'd be wrong, and I think the boat for me getting paid to interpret texts probably sailed fifteen years ago, besides. I'm in this for the love of the game.***

November is the true spooky season in the northern hemisphere.**** Yeah, October ends with Halloween, but you know what month starts with Halloween? Mmhmm. By November of 2019 TMA had been on my list for a few years, and someone I was getting to know and really liked recommended it to me specifically in the days after 159 aired. The conditions were correct for me to get into something new, is what I'm saying. I still remember listening to "Anglerfish" for the first time, walking home from my office job in the blustery November dark. I got home starry-eyed and red-cheeked and thrilled by the story I'd just heard.

It took a couple of months for me to catch up, and though I loved having so much to listen to there were times when I wished I'd started earlier, to have the experience of seeing things unfold.

And now we're back at a beginning, and get to experience the horrible joys of finding out.

ok, so the other day my partner and i were talking about characters' names, the context being "oh, some characters don't match the names they were given" and it got me thinking... what would i name the love island characters if i had that power... or what they would name themselves... it gets a little mixed, don't worry about it.

i'm doing this or all seasons, especially the ones i didn't play because... it's fun and i already don't know/care about their grace.

alright, let's begin!

gary - SOLID KYLE, and i say this as a gary stan. he looks like someone who would chug on mountain dew and post those cowboy tik toks showing off his truck. i'm sorry but if you're american you know it's true and it's undeniable. idk what the british equivalent of that is... perhaps gary LOL

ibrahim - chadwick something the third. i remember seeing someone making fun of chadwick boseman (rest in peace) because his name is so white, and by rahim's behavior and way of talking it's giving carlton from 'fresh prince of bel-air. he's a fucking chadwick and you cannot convince me otherwise.

lucas - his father would want to name him fucking archibald because they're filthy rich, but his mom knows better, so she chose lucas. i think it's perfect for him and i wouldn't change it.

henrik - a solid andreas. look at him, he's an andreas! very sweet but still nordic enough to make you wonder.

bobby - probably the day of the week he was born, because if his parents are dumb enough to name him bobby, what would stop them from naming him friday? or maybe the season he was born, spring...

jakub - his name can stay the same because he looks like a jakub, HOWEVER, he would demand everyone to call him by his nickname: white shark

rocco - fernando. and not in the way you say it in english or spanish, but in portuguese. "faer-nã-doo", he would insist because... he's a douche.

graham - a hebrew name that means lovely, so like... jeremiah, or jebediah. probably jebediah. he does not give graham, he gives "catholic mother that is a little too lost in bible lore".

arjun - because he's conceited, (i like him but that smirk is so over-the-top) rahul. every fucking raul or rahul i've ever met was a conceited jerk so... call this based off life experiences.

elijah - it's giving william, maybe willard, even wilford. definitely a nickname that leads you to believe it's william but it's every other name under the sun except for the most common.

kassam is actually perfect, the right amount of exotic vanilla that he disperses.

carl - a nerdy name that wasn't necessarily born in the 40's, so leonard. it's a solid mix between young and old for me, and that's just who carl is. leonard is leo when he's younger, then stays solid for a 30-something-yo, then it's even more solid when you get old. granted, so is carl but i hate that fucking name.

noah - ambrose. um... SHOULD I JUST MOVE ON? it's perfect for him!

felix - (my partner said "lobster" without a second thought and i thought i would share with the class) but to me he looks like a solid martin, although he tries to make a nickname like max catch on, it's not successful.

the s2 girls:

lottie - she probably has a conservative name, like anne marie but lies about it saying she was named after a witch, like piper or sybil. final name would be piper (charmed fans will get it).

hope - viola. i love it, it's simple, small and it can mean so many things depending on what language you speak. in english is a type of violin, but in portuguese it's a type of guitar, and i love that for her. she's a very musical person so that's my name for her.

marisol - she's a solid valentina, the type of name that says a lot about personality. marisol, to me, is such a whimsical name. it doesn't say "intelligent, brave, bold", it says "i sell flowers by the road and wear a dress made out of hemp. also i call my vagina sacred temple." and that's not what homegirl is giving, so definitely valentina.

chelsea - i just hate the name chelsea, despite thinking she looks like one, so i'm naming her summer, because bright, hot, a little out there. everyone named summer (except the girl in The O.C) is a whimsical person, and that's how i feel she is.

hannah - she's a fucking daisy.

shannon - she's giving "my parents gave me the whitest name they could think of but i use a cool nickname" so i'm naming her madison but she calls herself "mad". her parents though? "maddie!"

blake - she's a fully-blown yasmin. it's the type of name that makes you second guess everything you thought about the person because you're not sure where that name is from, or what it means, and that's how i feel about her.

priya - i actually love that name for her, and i don't have as much contact with female indian names to have that... knowledge you know? i like it, keep it.

elisa - beatrice, but she uses "bea" and the bea-hive, because branding. WHY CALLING HER A NAME THAT CANNOT BE USED AS A BRAND, S2 WRITERS???? what was your thought process???

jo - every single girl i've met that is like jo was named angela. girls that will be like "i'll tell you one thing: i don't play games and i don't engage in drama" and baby, that's all they're doing, they're playing games and portraying an angel. fucking angela.

r!hannah - her name is still daisy but she corrects people, wanting to be addressed as "daze", because she's a bad girl now and fucking unbearable.

It is funny how badly works my 7+ years old LG phone, worse than my short sighted eyes with lenses. Maybe I saw with my heart. That's why I didn't make much photos, but I enjoyed and lived every seconds of the show, these photos don't show what I felt, just some memories.

Now I'm lively, I feel the same miracle like after last year's show, but yesterday in addition to being sleepy I was lost. Honestly I've got tired of being so nervous about the tickets for weeks, months. Before and during the show I felt the luckiest DM fan in the stadium, a dream came true. But it destroyed me a bit as well. For a long time I was literally sick.

At the end of the concert I felt sadness, as if I lost something, and I was crying on the next day when I thinked of the show, I don't know, why. Perhaps because there is no more event waiting for with such an enthusiasm, or I just wanted more, just one more song… to stay there, in the feeling. Or I just wanted to go closer, to hug them, to say thank you. To thank them for changing the way of my life, to fill me those massive feelings, to discover more dimensions of myself by their songs, sound, voice, personality. This is the power of music, especially their music. Helps not only to survive but lot more. I'm very lucky to catched 2 concerts of MM tour. I am happy in my way, but DM always brings more emotions, not only happyness.

About the concert. When they appeared on the stage, I' started to cry and fly. Everyone stood up from the beggining. I could see all of cute choreography that I've seen 100 times at youtube and tumblr. The audience was excellent, loud, hands everywhere, singing together with Dave or Martin, when Dave was conducting our voice's volume, that was one of the best moment. I loved Behind The Wheel, In Your Room, Stripped, Martin's Home and Somebody together, Never Let Me Down Again of course, thousends arms were waving in the air, we didn't let them to finish the song… but the highest moment was Black Celebration, I went crazy just like all the 16000 people (small hall, last year we were 50000 of us). I really missed Waiting For The Night, but only because I was really waiting for it. We got Condemnation, just like last year, I love that too. Perhaps it's lyrics have a message for me.

After the show me and my best friend accidently met some special friends yet in the stadium, whose somehow helped us getting tickets, later we went to the official afterparty getting together with @mijamija1234 and I was dancing until 3am mostly for 40+ years old songs…

The Big Day. The frame of my 8 months long musical and emotional travel. Right now I feel wow. I'm so grateful for everyone who opened those certain doors for me.

Fun fact at the end for you: in Hungarian we have a term for "DM fan", it's called "depeses" (pronounce: 'depeshesh), we use it since the 1980s. I'm definitely depeses now 🌹

favorite thing about them

She has such a big heart and is genuinely so sweet and caring and is ride-or-die as fuck for the people she cares about. Also she's just so fucking funny and she has these ditzy moments that are so comedically underrated.

least favorite thing about them

I don't like when the writers would use her to air grievances about cast members (but I also think "every time you so much as cooked macaroni and cheese together or farted" is funny and I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh every time I hear that). I also didn't like the dodgeball thing from s3 because it felt like the writers trying to justify Finn outing her (which absolutely isn't justified at all and I hate that there's still people in the fandom trying to act like it was). Also just like with Brittany's 'angry lesbians' comment, I didn't like the whole 'you need a 100% Sapphic goddess' conversation and the biphobia, especially considering it required two actual bi people (Naya and Demi) to utter those words (yikes).

I wish she could have stood up for herself a bit more when the feud with Rachel was resolved (because yeah maybe she took it too far but it wouldn't have gone there if Rachel hadn't overreacted to begin with).

idk if I'd necessarily say "least favourite" more than "most noticeable flaw" but she tends to spiral when she doesn't have control of a situation, which leads to things like the whole Artie situation and later the whole leprechaun thing.

(also ... again more of a "most noticeable flaw" thing than anything else I think she has low self-esteem and a fear of success but I could write an essay on that so we'll save that for another day)

Besides Brittana (because they are besties as well as soulmates and wives), hands down has to be Sancedes!!!! I love their friendship. I love how in season 2 Mercedes laughs at all Santana's comebacks. I think they stayed friends way after canon ended.

I'm a sucker for Kurtana, Blaintana and Samtana besties as well.

I have so many Santana headcanons it's not funny but I don't know what the barometer of randomness is, so here's a list of them and ig you can decide which are the more random ones.

Also I'm a demisexual lesbian Santana truther and I know there's others out there but I don't think it's a widely popular headcanon.

unpopular opinion

That I think she's overhated??? No fr I have no patience for people who call her irredeemable or a terrible person because she wasn't. Santana is best girl point blank period, and in my opinion, even though I love a lot of the other characters as well, she was the best part of Glee.

Santana's version of Don't Rain On My Parade is the superior version.

In terms of some fanon things, fuck JKR but Santana's not a Slytherin and I'll die on that hill. I'm not a fan of the cutesy nicknames people give her in fanfiction. Also her abuela would never allow her middle name to be Diabla so fuck Ryan Murphy for putting that into the universe.

(also idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but the people who are whining that kevin and jenna talk about naya/santana too much on their podcast seriously need to get a life)

Cabin Pressure Advent Day 2: Boston

This is a funny one, because I started it, was laughing a lot, and was like "why don't I listen to this more often?" And then Hamilton Leeman showed up and I was like "ohhh that's why."

It is really funny- a lot of the rhythms that were slightly off in Abu Dhabi feel a lot more set in place, though I think the one who seemed most off kilter was, for some reason, Arthur. He was mostly a plot/comedy device in this one and maybe that's why- he was very funny but his actions and insights didn't always feel consistent. I wonder if it would have been better if Douglas had been the one to note that Leeman was likely to smoke again- though I do love the "taking a course on understanding people in Ipswich" thing.

Or... maybe it's because he commits manslaughter in this episode?

It's never NOT jarring to see (or rather hear) this happening, and honestly, that's my first major issue with the episode- the stakes are WAY too high. Not even specifically for the second episode- in general I just don't think they ever are remotely at the level of life or death again. Any risk or danger is to MJN as a company, and that ends up being an acceptable level of risk- especially since, as Arthur notes, Douglas will always end up sorting it out. But having a character have a heart attack in the episode, and the conflict being about the best way to deal with the situation... it was too high stakes for a show with this kind of sitcom tone. They should be debating whether to shove the piano to the pub in Devon, not which airport is better for saving Leeman's life (and, incidentally, other people's personal convenience).

The other major issue? The freaking Americans. I'm sorry, as an American I can say that I have never met an American in a British sitcom who I have liked (or if I have, I don't recall). In this episode, they just don't work at all- the performers are funny but don't sound right, and everything is just super over the top. I don't like Nancy what's her name in Qikiqtarjuaq either for similar reasons- maybe I'm just a grinch but just... not super fun. (Incidentally, on that note, I'm always surprised that so many British people love Frasier considering how dodgy the British character portrayals can be- except that, like Cabin Pressure, Frasier is brilliant so I can see why they stick around despite the issues lol.)

Some more early installment weirdness- do we ever see Martin openly looking for another job again before S3? I don't think we do, which is surprising because later on we know he's not getting paid here, and right now in Boston we don't know anything of the kind- so honestly I was surprised it was an open secret. Maybe it's normal to be open about interviewing in the airline world? IDK.

So yeah, the above is why I'm not so surprised that this hasn't been on my rotation in a while- but as it happens, there were some REALLY funny bits. While Arthur felt a bit hodge-podgey, the bits and pieces that he DID do were very funny, especially Leeman's eulogy, and there were a lot of VERY funny lines. I was laughing a lot- in between the parts where I was like "what the hell."

Probably will skip through Boston every now and then, but I don't think I'm going to prioritize a full relisten any time soon. Cremona is the next one, and I don't have great memories of that either, but then comes Douz and we have a nice period of VERY clear sailing ahead! (I fucking love Douz.)

Notes and an Update: What's in a Name?

Chapter 16 of an echo, a stain features Astarion doing what he does best -- feeling terror, spiraling and at the very least contemplating terrible choices as a result. lol.

SPOILERS FOR ACT 2 OF BG3 BELOW

Those of you who are mostly caught up on an echo, a stain know I love me a flashback (and now the rest of y'all know, too lol). There are two in this new chapter, one of which is set in the Shadow-Cursed lands after Astarion has confessed his initial intentions toward and current feelings/desires for Tav to Tav (post-Orthon confession). As a result of that conversation, they've put a pin in the sexual aspects of their relationship, but are still together romantically. Then, the Araj Moment happens (spoiler alert: nobody bit that heifer), Thaniel is reunited with Oliver, Halsin's... admiration of Tav is becoming more apparent, and Astarion is... yes! Spiraling!

I think that flashback speaks for itself, and I'll let y'all get what you will from when / where in the story it appears.

The OTHER flashback, which is much more brief, is about this Tav's name. Now, I'm not trying to make any secret of the fact that the Tav in this story and I have a lot in common in terms of ethnic backgrounds when you remove the high fantasy fake world element from Tav's lol. FIRST I want to say, I don't give a fuck. There is no shame in my game. Nobody comes for George R.R. Martin or Robert Jordan or J.R.R. (the Rs are for REALLY RACIST) Tolkein (don't @ me -- or do, go ahead and send me an ask if you really want to know my feels on that one looool) for writing about characters whose ethnic and cultural backgrounds are Western European / British.

Second of all, maybe I'm being unnecessarily defensive because I'm an old head who came up in a time when writing a self-insert character was like THE VERY WORST POSSIBLE THING YOU COULD DO AS A WRITER, but once again I don't give a fuck.

The lived experiences of ethnic minorities, people of mixed ethnic and cultural heritage (not fucking half-elves who most of the time are just people of the Caucasian persuasion with pointy ears and shorter lifespans than regular elves), first generation children of immigrants, and all manner of permutations of non-white, non-Western "others" are in extremely short supply in all forms of media / popular narratives in the Western world (shit honestly, it ain't just the West but that's another struggle for another day). This is especially true, from what I've experienced as a lifelong nerdalerd, in speculative fiction.

So yeah, I conceived my Tav as a mixed-race (kind of, she's all high elf, but mixed sun, moon, and sea because she's a motherfucking unicorn, come at me bro looool -- no, there are other reasons too but also she's a unicorn lol), mixed-ethnic-and-cultural-heritage person whose life choices are NOT aligned with a lot of the conventions and values of the cultures in which she was raised.

Because that story and perspective is wildly underrepresented in literature, mass media, speculative fiction, and fan fiction.

So here we are. loooool

Having said all that, I got a comment from my fucking delightful beta and queen of my soul, Komo, asking about the naming conventions I reference in this chapter (or their real-world analogues).

So for the notes part of this episode of "Notes and an Update," I'm going to quote part of the comment she left on AO3 about the story and my response, which adheres to my policy of "why say it in five words if you can say it in EIGHT MILLION." Let me know what you think!

(I also can't with how fucking convoluted figuring this out was, is, has been, will forever be looool.)

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, for the sake of brevity (looooooooooooooooool), we'll say Tav's full name results from the combination of her parents' names using Amnian/New Amnian (Spanish) naming conventions, BUT that means her full name (which is not even as long as it could be but is LONG) incorporates both Arabic naming conventions AND Spanish naming conventions that result in impressively / annoyingly long names loool.

In modern Spain, at least, when women marry, some don't even take their husband's name. But the kids' names are composites of parents' family names.

A Spanish child takes the surnames of both their father and mother. The structure is usually [father's surname] y [mother's surname] (though in modern Spain and Spanish-speaking countries a lot of people no longer use the "y"), but the main surname would be the father's surname. So for example, someone's full last name might be Juana Garcia y Martinez or Juana Garcia Martinez, but she might just go by Juana Garcia.

ALSO, especially for children of families of some kind of note / nobility when the dad's family was not as well-known as the mother's, this would include the composite names of both parents.

So Juana's name might be Juana [Garcia de Manzanilla (dad's composite surname)] y [Martinez de Hierro (mom's composite surname)].

So Juana Garcia de Manzanilla y Martinez de Hierro. And like, when people get real into it this can go back generations. Like, I don't even remember my mom's whole-ass name. looool.

NOW, Arabic names are composites, too, but incorporate the father's first name, the grandfather's first name, then the family name -- back in the day, they'd link these things with words that indicated the relationships. So for example, if Yemina's dad is Yusuf and HIS dad is Muhammad and their family name is Rashid, Yemina's name would then be Yemina bint/bin (daughter of) Yusuf ibn (son of) Muhammad al-(of the family) Rashid.

So Yemina bin Yusuf ibn Muhammad al-Rashid.

OK SO THERE'S ANOTHER COMPLICATION (aren't you glad you asked this question loooooooooooooooooooool): with regard to Spanish naming conventions, apparently this patrilineal thing hasn't always been the case and only came to be the norm around the mid-1700s. Before that, surname transmission was often matrilineal.

(This comes into play here because the year in BG3 is like, idk, 1492-98 or something? I forget whatever who cares it's before the mid-1700s and I'm just making it vaguely and very much not perfectly analogous with the time / calendar of the Western world because I don't have the bandwidth for anything else loooooooooool).

In this Tav's case, her mom ditched her dad and the kids were young enough at the time that she was able to, as a sign of DEEP FUCKING DISRESPECT TO HIM loooool, change their names to MATRILINEAL AMNIAN-STYLE COMPOSITE SURNAMES LOOOOOOOOOOOOL

(So for a while Tav's government name was Zeneida Nqa Tavares de la Torre de López Jimenez y bin Harun ibn Ishaq al-Jazairi loooool)

I mean this was like looooooooooooooool FUCKING PROFOUNDLY SCANDALOUSLY DISRESPECTFUL FOR HER TO DO TO A ZAKHARAN MAN especially one of SOME NOTE WHO WAS SELF-MADE

But TAV'S MOM DOES NOT PLAY

(Now, could she have just cut Tav's father's name out entirely? Sure, but 1) THAT MOTHERFUCKER IS NOT GETTING OUT OF CLAIMING THESE KIDS / PAYING CHILD SUPPORT esp if he ever got married again HER KIDS ARE THE FUCKING HEIRS AND HE AIN'T GON FORGET IT and 2) (possibly more importantly) FUCK HIS COUCH, PEOPLE ARE GONNA KNOW HE FUCKED AROUND AND FOUND OUT)

Even though he's deadass like "lol wtfever I don't give a fuck, I know what their real legal names are" and also this resulted in a protracted, multinational legal battle that was never actually resolved until each kid reached the age of majority and decided what their own legal name would be.

Ahem, anyway as a consequence of all this, Tav's full-ass, whole-ass, government name is:

Zeneida (first given name)

Nqa (middle given name)

bin Harun ibn Ishaq al-Jazairi (full Arabic/"Midani" patrilineal surname)

y (conjunction [means 'and'])

Tavares de la Torre de López Jimenez (mother's full surname)

But as we know, she just goes by Zeneida Tavares, and she wasn't lying when she said on most docs it's just "Zeneida Nqa Jazairi Tavares."

It's been a while since I've done a Chortle headlines roundup. I used to do them more regularly, then I did a couple in a row where it was heavy on the post-documentary Russell Brand headlines, and that was so depressing that I cut them out for a while. Let's do a new one. I'll make this one shorter.

Oh for the love of God, Chortle. Please do not make me look at weeks of Ricky Gervais headlines in the leadup to/aftermath of the video release of Armageddon. He could not possibly need the publicity less, for so many reasons. Obviously you shouldn't be a cunt. Everyone who's going to think that already thinks it, everyone else isn't going to change, don't make us fucking read about it.

This looks like a headline that would appear on some sort of parody show. You know, if the BBC hadn't cancelled all its news/topical parody shows in the name of the exact balance mandate that I assume is the subject of that article, though I don't actually know, I'm not clicking on that.

You are doing New Year's Treat wrong, guys. It's supposed to be on New Year's and it's also supposed to have people who are famous (sorry, I'm sure it'll be fun and the people they've cast will be fine, I'm just still mildly annoyed that this year was their one chance to cast John Oliver while he was striking, the stars aligned with him having recently worked with Alex on the Horne Section show, it's gone forever now).

If anyone has the opportunity to see Pierre Novellie's Why Are You Laughing when he tours it next year, I cannot recommend it highly enough. I'm now wishing I had recommended other things less highly in the past, so I could lend more weight to this one. It's amazingly funny, and amazingly well written. It should... I mean, I was thinking it should be a strong contender for the best show (of Edinburgh 2023) award until I heard Ahir Shah's show, and I do now think they made the right choice in giving it to Ahir Shah. But it was the second best Edinburgh 2023 show, of the 40-ish I've heard. It should at least have been nominated.

Can I say something mildly sacrilegious? I'm not sure about this. I am obviously a devotee of Sam Campbell, and my view of Lucy Beaumont has wavered slightly as I've come to realize just how much she's maybe not kidding most of the time, but I do find her very funny. I just think... the proverbial straight man in a comedy group exists for a reason, you know? I don't know how well it'll work to put those two together without someone else to balance it out, they won't have anything to play off. It feels a bit too heavy on Avalan throwing together two fan favoruites from a popular TV show, more than thinking about what pairings would actually work well together. Especially since there doesn't seem to be a planned format or anything. I also don't really think they're as similar as people have suggested.

Having said that, obviously I'm going to listen to this, and I can absolutely picture a scenario in which I finish the first episode and write a glowing post about how I've been proven wildly wrong and concede that I should never have doubted their brilliance. I hope it happens that way.

I know I'm mildly annoyed at him right now, but this show is very good and people should see it if they can. One of my favourite things out of all he's ever done. He did a little preview of bits he's added to it on the latest Bugle episode, and I enjoyed that a lot.

Oh fuck off. No, come on, fuck off. You are not going to force me to engage with whatever the fuck VR is by having Mae Martin do it. It won't work.

...Having said that, is there a way to take a VR set and turn it into nice normal 2D video so I can watch the Mae Martin set? I have no idea if that's possible and I refuse to Google it, no one needs to encourage Mark Zuckerburg. But obviously I want to see what Mae Martin's doing.

I quite enjoyed this little clip. I've never been to Scotland, but this is exactly how I imagine the Edinburgh Festival, I'm currently planning a probably-actually-for-real-this-time trip for Edinburgh 2024, and I will be wildly disappointed if the festival isn't exactly like this.

Weirdly, there was nothing on the Chortle front page about Benjamin Zephaniah dying. He wasn't a comedian or anything, but he had connections to British comedy. I can't lie and say I was incredibly familiar with his work, but I really liked the poems of his that I'd heard and read (I did seek a few out and read them after seeing him on TV, as I quite liked him), and thought he came across very well every time I saw or heard him. And, obviously, 65 is too young and that would be a tragedy even if he weren't a very talented poet.

1 a book that is close to your heart

Oh gosh but there are so many and for so many reasons! But I grew up with Narnia as bedtime stories, and that was the first series I read on my own as well. By the time I was in second grade I knew the books well enough to be able to recite the whole first chapter of The Final Battle by heart lmao

It's been a while since I read them though, because it stopped feeling as fun when I knew them so wholly.. But I think I always had a special weak spot for The Magician's Nephew, the way they were jumping between the lakes always comes back to me in spring when the world is melting back into colours. And the way all the human men talked about the woman who would later become The Witch always stayed with me as well.

22 your favourite thriller

Ooh that's a genre I don't really read? I used to read mysteries as a kid and I've read fantasy that's bordering on horror but actual thriller is not something I'm very familiar with. Can I say Dracula? Like especially in the Draula Daily edit when we get the slow creeping horror of the captain's log from the Demeter?

Oh! Or Fevre Dream by George RR Martin. Again with the vampires, I know, but it is very good and creeping vampire fiction so maybe that counts? I promise it's better than what the premise of "steamboat vampires on the river" sounds like!

Ok so google tells me that Gone With the Wind is 418,053 words, and A Storm of Swords is 424,000 words while A Dance with Dragons is 422,000 words so my guess was pretty good on how close they are

Ooh again there are so many! All the ones mentioned above are dear to me, but if I'm just going to throw out a general book rec I think I will mention The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi which is just gorgeous! Fantasy but in an Indian setting, which is so refreshing and fun for my western little mind, about a princess who gets married off to Death himself and the language is just so yummy <3

I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion among people who watch the show but I’ve really never wanted Abigail to come back. I guess at this point if they bring her back for Henry, then I could be fine with it, I do agree however that they could put him with Molly, especially after the Rosaleen storyline and I personally would prefer that over bringing Abigail back but whatever.

My main gripe with Abigail was that her role kind got overinflated beyond what the character was originally meant to be. I liked Abigail in the earlier seasons as kind of a mentor/friend to Elizabeth but then she became mayor, and ran the cafe and was helping Henry and adopted Cody and was just like inserted into everything and was always giving advice to everyone in kind of a saintly, can do no wrong sort of way that just eventually got annoying. I get she’s a main character and Lori is a great actress but it just got to be too much for me.

I think the show has kind of grown beyond her and is much more of an ensemble than it was when she was on. I personally have other characters I am much more invested in seeing more storylines for but I suppose I’m fine with her returning for Henry’s sake, however I would hope her role would be diminished from what it was in seasons 1-5

People seem pretty split on it. I don't think she was ever much of a favorite, at least on here. Some people really loved the character but I was never one of those people. I really only liked what she had going with Henry. I definitely think Molly is the right direction to go in at this point.

I agree. The show became more about her than about Elizabeth, the real main character. She was doing everything. She was everywhere. She was in everyone's business and was always the one to fix things or know the right thing to say. It was a lot. It seemed like when they made her and Erin producers that she kind of took over and was calling the shots.

The show is so different now. We have so many more characters who have filled in the roles she once had. I think it would be so strange to have the character back now. Where would she even fit in? It would be great for Henry and that's where I'm conflicted because I love that character. Maybe Cody gets to come back too which would be nice for the actor since he got screwed over by Lori. Hopefully she's tried to make amends with everyone that lost work because of her. I'm still annoyed about it, honestly. I don't want to see Lori back. Her fans like to preach about second chances but I don't necessarily think she deserves one. There's plenty of actors out there who'd love to act opposite Martin and haven't forked over money to pay to get their daughter into a school she didn't even want to go to, you know?

High hopes in Monaco after the cancellation of Imola

Heya!

Well, I was originally planning on writing last week after the announcement of the GP in Imola being cancelled due to the floods going on in the Emilia Romagna region, but between my shitty shifts and exhaustion, I couldn't even think about it.

It was a sad thing, but it was the necessary decision. For once, the FIA was quick to decide what was best and also for once, they made the right choice. Just wish people in the area were all okay...

This weekend I'm watching it all after work, so yeah I'll be late once again. On another note, we started this race weekend with the news of Honda teamming up with Aston Martin starting 2026 and rumors about Yuki being a possibility to join Alonso. That would be funny tbh. Also, Mercedes FINALLY got rid of the "no sidepods" concept on the car. Really hope this levels things, at least a tiny bit (I'm expecting no miracles).

Anyway, onto the actual purpose of this post, so I'm starting at last.

Press conference - Thursday

First press round and not really anything interesting except for Yuki's take on the floodings in Italy. I'm here just waiting for the second round to start so that I can watch the chaos unfold 🤣

Chaotic Sharl is on and I'm here for it, "Hello, Lewis" sounded like the funniest shit in the world with that laughter of his. Seriously, I can't 😗 I do love those Lewis-Sharl interactions, they're so cute seriously and they'd make an insane duo, lots of fun stuff would be sent our way for sure.

Piarles clowning together about the football match a few days ago and how they just clashes into each other despite being in the same team. Really, boys? 🥲

Do people still think, given what we've seen this year so far and also last season, that Ferrari is a good choice for Lewis? I mean, yes Mercedes is not going through their best moments right now, but Ferrari? After so many disasters and making their own driver lose the chances of gaining a championship? I love Ferrari, but come on.

Free Practice 1 - Friday

Finally some movement in the streets of Monte Carlo and I'm actually thinking about all the new rumors that we might get after the race. I've been waiting for this weekend just for this 🤣

I know there have been a few Red Flags today so I'm just here waiting for them. I don't care how boring this track can get, I just love it and nothing's gonna change that. Ever.

Sid the Sloth is crying on the radio. What for? He has a fucking missile despite that much complaining and whining about it.

Not much else going on, pretty calm session for now. Apart from Sargeant having some kind of problem, nothing else to say. And I obviously spoke too soon, since Nico span a little bit too hard and fucked up his rear left tyre, causing a Yellow Flag that turned into a Red Flag. First of the day.

Sharl probably touched the wall or so, and right afterwards Albon crashed on his side, so the session was Red Flagged permanently now, with 3 minutes to go. Quiet one despite those problems, but not the worst news possible considering.

Besides different drivers trying out setting times and so on, there's been nothing going on. I do love that tunnel, though. That must be scary as fuck, honestly.

Aaaaand Carlos tries to goes as close to the wall as possible but crashes. Fantastic job causing another Red Flag. Quite a few drivers have gone very, very close but have managed to get out unscathed. I guess it's damn luck (on top of skill obviously, they're going over 200kph).

Commentators are talking about the future 2026 PUs and honestly, if the regulations for that year are as bad as the ones introduced in 2022, this will just get worse by then.

Maybe tomorrow something else will happen, especially during Quali, which I'll obviously watch late.

Free Practice 3 - Saturday

Well, I already know what happened in Quali today, but just gonna watch in order first so that I can finish this one post, I don't want extra tabs open on my browser right now, it's been a tough day at work 🤪

So Estie Bestie stopped in the middle of the tunnel (on the side anyway), but managed to get back to the pit lane, so at least nothing scary going on.

Wasn't Laurent Mekkies supposed to be in Alpha Tauri by now? Or did I miss something? I keep seeing him on the Ferrari pit wall 🤔

Honestly, nothing going on in FP3 so I was just watching memes on IG the whole time. Oh Jesus, and Lewis against the wall all of a sudden?! What the hell. That car being moved by the crane.... Was that really necessary, taking it so high!?

Liveblogging TMA - Season 2 - MAG 67-71

BURNING DESIRE :

Oof. This one physically hurt me. I don't trust the group Agnes was a part of one bit, but I also don't trust the spiders, which is what they apparently are against which is ... Good.

Mostly though, my heart goes out for Agnes, who just wanted a normal life, but instead was cursed by something that'd make it impossible for her to have one. This is heartbreaking.

I am assuming that she was Marked herself, maybe she was even host to the oddity, which could maybe explain why she didn't age, if she indeed was born human.

Anything more thorough, Jonathan has already mentioned in the end statement, so again, that little thief too my job as the resident conspiracy theorist. Unfair.

Still, he too broke my heart this episode. He just doesn't realize that he is valued and that people care for him. To be fair, everyone has been very distant, but this hurt me, please someone make this man knows that he is loved and cared for damn it.

I don't think I like where this is going though. Seems to me like he will earlier march to his death than open emotionally to the people around him.

Who's "they" ? I am guessing that the demons presented here are the concepts that we've seen pop up all around, but then who's "they" ? Is it the Archives ? The Concept behind it ? As it seems that beholding would uncover the truth and the reality of things, surely that would make sense for its adversaries to be things that can't be explained or that are hiding. A natural enemy of sorts.

The narrative around Ferrari being unserious will only disappear if they do make a car that is better than the last one. And not just on an isolated area but an actual car that works and that can fight. It’s about accountability now after years and years of the same ‘we focus on next year’. If by doing that they cannot fight up front there is a problem. That message worked for a bit, but they can’t hide behind it forever.

It may be unfair, but it’s the sport.

And Ferrari do have history with issues like that. Of course other teams have them but not many top teams (what’s Ferrari is supposed to be) and in the past Ferrari did not own mistakes. It’s not about blaming an individual but owning it as a team. The result is that they seem unserious. They stayed in a pre DTS, social media world on that corporate communication. And it hurts the team. It seems like they are working on that too. We might regret that it’s the world we are living in and they have to adapt.

And right now it’s like we only have the SF-75 from the second part of the season with maybe a reliable engine. So it’s not enough for a team like Ferrari. Especially when around them made a clear step forward.

All that is also more painful because Aston Martin made a great car for now. AM who do not have their new factory yet, had money issue recently and was P7 last year. They are agressive as a team, they picked ressources from the top teams and managed to make them work in a small time.

And right now RB dominance is not close to what Ferrari did at the start of last season. RB had reliability issue they solved quickly, but they were already so close to Ferrari. It was not the case at all this time. It’s Mercedes 2014 or 2020 vs the rest of the world.

Also I think there is this thing going on … what if Ferrari concept was not the good one like Mercedes. Of course it’s way better than Mercedes but the fight is not there it’s RB and AM at the moment. If they can’t turn things around quickly having the same troubles than since July last year it’s not a good look on the team.

I am by no means saying that Ferrari don't have issues because they do.

My point was just that the weird reaction I have seen to that incident was unwarranted.

I saw so many people going off on twitter talking as if someone plugged the CE in the wrong way twice.

It fucking sucks but people get so caught up in their own anger that they forget that these cars and anything to do with these cars is insanely complex.

I'm not saying that this is fine and should keep happening but like shit can happen sometimes because everything is super complicated. And getting too angry and screaming at walls pretending someone can't plug a CE in properly won't help anyone and is imo unwarranted.

There are so many other issues that Ferrari has to work on. Something that was probably a teeny tiny mistake (with grave consequences) that only happens once really isn't THE thing to get too angry at.

I wished to god FUCK people stopped saying romantic leatin's canon 😭😭😭

(I mean I'm almost certain that the writers would have gone that way? Especially with how overwhelmingly loved they are by the rest of the fandom? But god as is--so much of their shit can still very much be platonic and at this point it's nauseating that anytime someone does something tender for another person people take it as indelible fact that this character has romantic feelings for another???)

(Like, okay, I ship Dotin and Leachel hard fucking core but I don't say it's fucking canon--I just really think that they have the best dynamics with each other and "romance" has this implication that they'll live with each other for the rest of their lives 😭 But lord, if we get them as platonic life partners, I would fucking love that too, it's just the fucking fault of society that platonic relationships are seen as lesser compared to romantic ones so I feel this incessant urge to drop my favorite dynamics in a romance just to push for the sake of their pairing 😭😭😭)

(God I hope no one reads this I'm actually upset at how pressedt I am by Leatin nsdajkdsad)(But also lmao now that I'm ranting I need to say that I would want Fatin to end up with literally anyone else (except for maybe Toni? f1 23 - op ed. season debrief

this past weekend my favorite sport of all time concluded for the season. next season will be my first race that I travel to!! F1 is soo expensive for fans that it's super hard to go to a race. ESPECIALLY!! If you're not in Europe. Europe has so many races that are quite close to most europeans that some go to almost every european race :( I live in the US and I'm about 5 hours away from the closest one to me. It is literally in another country, Canada, bc ALL OF THE F1 US races are in the southern united states!!! It's a crime for the northern regions :(((

this year in F1 has been so so so crazy and also so so so boring. I LOVE racing and every race has had so much anticipation, nervousness, and general racing during the race, however, with red bull the lead they extend with Max makes the races where he leads by 5+ seconds a bit boring. Max receiving first almost every race makes first a "false spot." If you get what I mean. I am also not saying I am not proud of Max, BECAUSE I AM. Max is such an amazing driver that deserves his THIRD championship win. It just was such a stagnant year with all of his wins. Some drivers were able to show their potential but with all of the cost caps and weird FIA calls, a lot of the drivers couldn't perform to their top potential.

BUT ANYWAYS, I am so excited for next season. I think this year really showed teams like McLaren, Williams, and Alpha Tauri that development works and it pays off with good drivers and constant tuning. McLaren had such a great season compared to my favorite team, Ferrari lmaooo. I am so so so proud of the great drivers that were able to show off their racing in such an amazing way compared to years prior. Especially with Mclaren and Williams who have been effectively laughed at for so long. Maybe next year HAAS and Aston Martin can show better development, and maybe hopefully better drivers someday (next season or in two seasons from now).

Can't wait for F1 '24!!

im doing the mid year book freakout tag

nobody tagged me but fuck it we roll

best book you've read so far in 2023?

its either A Feast For Crows by George R.R. Martin (duh) or Sula by Toni Morrisson. AFFC was just phenomenal, its one of those books i lost myself into and when i had to resurface i felt actual sadness because it was over, and i cant wait to reread it. Sula, however, is just perfect, i laughed and i cried, i felt so connected to the story and the writing just everyone go read Sula. its one of the best books to have ever been written.

i also reread My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante and that is also the best book of all time.

best sequel you've read so far in 2023?

um AFFC!! or A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. either one if those are phenomenal sequels. tbh i haven't read any other series this year so its either asoiaf or nothing, and storm and feast are my favourites.

new release you haven't read but want to?

nothing?? idk i havent read a new book in forever. maybe Yellowface by R.F Kuang or the new percy jackson book but i have no idea.

most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

unless its a surprise TWOW drop which isn't happening i have absolutely no clue.

biggest disappointment?

i'm sorry to all the fantasy fans out there, but i just finished Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson and i dont care for it. i really thought i would be more interested in the story but it was so meh for me i couldn't bring myself to care about anything or any characters. i did like the magic system.

i also reread The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet, which is a book i ADORED when i was like 14, ans im sad to say it folks but it was foul.

biggest surprise?

again ik this book is old but Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut FLOORED ME. i still think about that book constantly its so phenomenally written and ive owned it for years and never got to it because i thought it would be boring but it was completely excellent.

favourite new author (debut or new to you)?

Susan Sontag, David Foster Wallace and Toni Morrison. first time i read any of them was this year and what a waste of time to not have read them sooner.

newest fictional crush?

its jaime. ig he's from last year but yeah its jaime.

newest favourite character?

uhhhh jaime. jaime lannister. i am not better than this.

a book that made you cry?

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It's a reread but jesus christ that ending always gets to me, especially knowing what comes after.

a book that made you happy?

i cant seem to escape ASOS and AFFC, but genuinely my reading experience of asoiaf was unparalleled.

most beautiful book you've bought this year?

i went to the Libreria Lello (aka the world's most beautiful bookstore) and i got the most BEAUTIFL edition of Las intermitencias de la muerte by José Saramago.

what book(s) do you need to read before the end of the year?

i want to read Richard III by Shakespeare, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, En diciembre llegaban las brisas by Marvel Moreno and Beloved by Toni Morrisson. hopefully i'll get through them all
