Baldroy

bard tries his best to help you reconnect with your culture and heritage — namely through food and language — but he’s far from perfect and his pronunciation might just make you wince at first (he’s trying, really, he’s just also really not good with accents)

do not let this man hear about dishes like loco moco or kālua pig because he will try and recreate it for you and it will go horribly wrong — please, please, if you must, ask sebastian to oversee everything because otherwise you will be eating some charcoal (made with a lot of love and good intentions, but still definitely charcoal)

he calls you ‘ipa’ a lot, alongside his usual rotation of pet names like ‘babe’ and ‘hun’, and his pronunciation gets better and better over time — and if you comment on that improvement then he’ll get the cutest smile on his face and mention that he has ‘the best teacher’ (between you and the books he’s been studying, of course)

he practises a lot independently in the hopes of being able to impress you and your family in the future (a habit ingrained in him from his upbringing — the need to gain approval from the relatives of whoever you’re dating before marriage), but let it be known that he is struggling his way through the syntax and grammar as best he can — but of course he’ll end up coming to you for guidance when he’s truly stuck or realises that perhaps that’s not how he should be pronouncing that word (sometimes it just feels wrong, even to a new learner)

he has punched someone out cold for being cruel to you for your heritage before and he will do it again if the need arises — he has a temper and he can use it to his advantage (sometimes, anyway)

(our!) Ciel Phantomhive

he’s highly empathetic to you feeling out of place in your culture does whatever he can to help mitigate that uncomfortable feeling for you — usually by having sebastian do something or another

he uses a great deal of his sparse free time to learn the specific dialect your family uses, either from you or alongside you depending on how much you can recall, and whilst his pronunciation is imperfect the effort is definitely there (and you’ll often find him practising his annunciation and sentence structure in the late evenings between working through the startling pile of paperwork on his desk)

more hawaiian dishes and desserts are incorporated into the manor’s menu — thanks to sebastian — based on ciel’s research and your own memories of food you grew up with (his personal favourites are lomi salmon and malasada)

if you ever wanted to wear something closer in design or pattern to what you wore back home, then he’d happily commission you some garments from nina — granted they’d probably not be perfect replications of what you grew up with, but he’d make sure that they were as close as they could reasonably be

he’s not afraid to leverage his reputation, connections, and staff in order to protect you and threaten anyone who tries to make you uncomfortable or discriminate against you due to your heritage (his peers, usually) or, conversely, your disconnect from it (other members of your community back home)

Finny

finny finds everything about your heritage and culture to be so very interesting — whether that’s the food, the celebrations, the language, the clothing, or just the island that your family hails from itself (he did grow up in a lab after all, so an environment like that is one that he’d jump at the chance to go and visit)

he’s shockingly quick at picking up the spoken side of your dialect just from hearing you speak it, but reading and writing is a very different story — but he’s so very eager to learn and he wants to be able to help you reconnect with that side of your family in his own way (trying his best to start and maintain conversations in hawaiian throughout the day with you, occasionally pausing mid word to shake his head and correct his pronunciation slightly and asking you if that was right — grinning so broadly it reaches his eyes every time you let him know that he did good)

loves all of the food you grew up eating and will happily devour it and ask for a second helping — his personal favourites are the sweeter things like haupia and kūlolo but he also enjoys the more substantial/proper foods and will just eat whatever you put in front of him

doesn’t quite understand the concept of being ‘haole’ but gets deeply upset by the way you’re treated by some of the people on your island because you happened to travel a lot growing up, which in turn makes him more protective over you and clingy (likewise he gets very emotional and affectionate after someone mistreats you back in old blighty because of your heritage, apologising for how you’re being treated and angry that people could ever be so mean to someone he loves so much)

if he had the opportunity to go visit hawaii with you then this man would be in heaven, exploring the terrain and learning about all the new native plant life (even trying new fruits like lychee, papaya and pineapples, which are far too expensive for him to even consider looking at back home) — you will definitely struggle to get him indoors during your visit and he might just sleep outdoors if you let him

Mey Rin

mey rin can definitely relate to feeling disconnected from her heritage given that her parents passed away when she was young and her only exposure to anything from her home country was the gang that treated her terribly — so the journey to reconnect with your roots would be something she’d happily support you in

she’d join you in relearning the hawaiian language whilst she learns mandarin (well beyond the cusses and insults and derogatory terms that were tossed around in the gang) — exchanging terms of endearment like ‘ipo’ and ‘xīn gān’ as you each become more familiar with your own languages and each other’s

she’s happy to try any of the foods you grew up with (especially anything involving meat), but she’s not exactly the best cook and far too clumsy to be trusted in the kitchen, so you’ll have to take on most of the actual cooking — she’s happy to help fetch ingredients, though (and she’s yet to drop anything… key word being ‘yet’ but it’s a big achievement for her)

if you ever manage to scrape enough time off to go back to your home island then poor mey will be fretting and practising her hawaiian near religiously for weeks leading up to the visit (even practising to herself when she’s working) — she wants to leave a good impression on your family, after all, and is really anxious about getting their approval

she’s not afraid to stand up for you with brits or other hawaiians who try and look down on you because of your heritage and your relationship with it — she knows what ‘haole’ means and she does not like hearing you get insulted (and, as many people could tell you, she can be very intimidating when she wants to be)

Sebastian Michaelis

sebastian is the type of partner who would go above and beyond to help you reconnect (or keep connected) with your heritage even though you’re stationed an ocean away in england

he makes sure the kitchens are stocked with the ingredients necessary to not only feed the master and his guests, but to keep the taste of home close — even memorising the steps to making the perfect lau lau, poi, or haupia (amongst many other dishes) for whenever you’re feeling homesick

being a demon he also has an excellent capacity to acquire languages and dialects without having to do the same amount of active learning that humans do, meaning that he’s more than happy and able to sit and talk with you in your native language (standard or in regional dialects like the niihau dialect) or help you relearn if if it’s something you lost or never quite picked up for one reason or another

it’s not like he randomly incorporates phrases or words from hawaiian into his daily life or work, as he has no reason to, but when the two of you are talking it’s easy for him to slip into it as a more intimate and private thing for the two of you

he makes a point to help you visit your home island and family whenever possible, even at times twisting the young master’s arm to do so — ensuring that you’re able to make any celebrations, festivals, parties, or holidays that you might have otherwise missed (whether it’s a more personal gathering like a luau, or something more communal like the merrie monarch festival)

as one could expect of him, sebastian is incredibly protective over you and intolerant of any attempt to judge or discriminate against you from either side of the debate (brits for being too non-white and your community for being ‘too haole’) and will make his disapproval known in the most aggressively polite way possible (unless he can get away with actively threatening them without repercussions for you or the young master, at which point he might just outright attack the offending party)

Snake

snake is mostly a very quiet and introverted person but that doesn’t mean he’s unsupportive of you and your want to reconnect with your heritage — in fact he offers all of the support he can (using his wages to buy books, food and materials in the same styles that you grew up with just to make things a bit easier)

he knows what it’s like to feel like you don’t quite fit in anywhere and he has extremely little patience for anyone who treats you poorly for your heritage or upbringing — using his snakes and appearance to his advantage in order to intimidate anyone who even tries (he doesn’t speak enough hawaiian to know what ‘haole’ means but based on your reaction he knows it isn’t good and he doesn’t like you being called it as a result)

he’s a big fan of a lot of hawaiian dishes and will easily clean the plate whenever something is made — but his personal favourites are ahi poke and lū’au, both of which he can happily have several servings of

he’d struggle a bit with connecting with your community if you ever managed to bring him back to your island for a visit — but that’s mostly because of his natural introversion and he’s otherwise fine with following you around, helping you prepare food, celebrating holidays with you, and so on

Could you please write a fic with reader being trained by the phantomhive staff in self defense / defending the manor in general? Either all together or a mini story for mey rin, bard, Tanaka, Sebastian? I figured Finny would be more like your personal cheerleader?? “There we are, that’s it! … Lord, (Name), y’ need t’ tighten up y’r aim a bit, y’ do. That was a bit sloppy.”

You offer a little wince as you turn back to MEY RIN, wondering exactly what she expects of you. This is your first time shooting a gun, after all! “S… sorry, ma’am. I’m trying.”

She nods understandingly. “No, no, I know y’ are. Y’ coulda done a lot worse, all things considered.”

Within only a few seconds, she’s swiftly at your back. Arms around you, she snaps your hands and gun into a slightly different position. She’s been doing this for so long, it must be almost like breathing to her, mustn’t it? You have to wonder how she’s not incredibly frustrated with a newcomer’s abilities.

“C’mere. Let’s see… good. Alright, gimme one more shot an’ we’ll take a li’l breather, alright? Don’t want y’ gettin’ all shaky or nothin’.” She gestures toward the target with her head, then moves to let go so you can shoot on your own. “Pretend that target’s an enemy. Someone what came along t’ do us all harm an’ threaten the master. Y’ don’t ask questions, y’ protect the manor. Shoot ‘em.”

That’s intimidating, but not inaccurate. You don’t want your new life to slip away; you straighten up, take aim, and pull the trigger.

It isn’t long before you move on, with the next person giving you a lesson being BARD.

It seems his preferred method of dealing with intruders is also a gun, just like Mey Rin, although he shows very clearly that he also has a fondness for… well… explosives. He also tells you point-blank that he tends to use guns at closer range than Mey Rin does.

Which you’d lean toward, you don’t even know. All you know is that the recoil from shooting a close-up target is painful. This isn’t something you’d want to do unless your life literally did depend on it.

That said, the explosives aren’t much better. Bard’s gotten very good at controlling the resulting fires, so having you light and throw one toward a target isn’t a problem. The biggest problem is that your hands shake on the matches, leading you to nearly burn yourself.

“That’s alright,” he sighs as he throws water over the last of the embers. “You did jus’ fine, alright? You’re a better shot than you are usin’ fire. So we’ll jus’ make sure you always have a gun nearby.”

“I’m sorry…” You cradle your almost-burnt hand to your chest. “I… suppose it could be worse, right?”

He nods. “That’s right. You’re doin’ fine. C’mon, go take five minutes in the garden with Finny an’ you’ll come back with fresh eyes.”

Off you pop, then.

When you go in the garden to find FINNY and relax for a few minutes, he looks all too happy to see you. It’s as if he was expecting that you’d need a break by this point.

You plop down next to him beneath the tree he’s sitting under, and almost immediately he hands you a freshly picked apple right from one of the branches. He gives you a smile, but doesn’t say anything right away.

The two of you have a snack in silence, then he finally speaks up. “Gets a little intense, don’t it? You don’t gotta worry, though ― from what I seen, you’re doin’ great.”

“Thanks, Finny…” Your shoulders droop a little and you let out a breath. “I just wish it wasn’t so much work. I wish I was just strong, like you, so I wouldn’t have to learn all this.”

He shrugs. “You don’t wanna be strong like me. You’re perfect on your own. It’d be different work, learnin’ how t’ control it, anyway.”

After a moment, he grins at you. “After the break, though, I could show you how t’ distract an intruder. I mean, just ‘cause I don’t use a weapon don’t mean I ain’t got nothin’ t’ teach you!”

… As soon as you finish your apple, you decide to take him up on that.

Because Finny doesn’t want to take up too much of your time, he keeps his lesson short, and shuffles you off to SEBASTIAN shortly afterwards.

The butler is undoubtedly even more intimidating than Mey Rin was when she was teaching you. There isn’t a thing on this estate that escapes Sebastian’s notice unless Ciel specifically orders him to turn a blind eye to something.

That would be worrying enough. He clearly expects you to sharpen your perception the way that he does. He leads you on a veritable tour of the entire estate, attempting (and quite often succeeding) to catch you off guard with attacks that a real enemy would try to use.

If nothing else, like the rest of the staff, Sebastian does take care not to actually hurt you. Well… he bruises your ego a little bit.

“You must keep your eyes a bit more open,” he says, clicking his tongue once you just narrowly avoid falling into the last trap he’s set for you. “If I had been a genuine intruder who got in quietly, you may have fallen to me.”

Still, his face softens when that damned observation of his catches how exhausted you are. It’s obvious he knows how hard you’ve been working. “You have one more day of training ahead of you. For now, what you’ve done will suffice. Go relax, and early to bed with you, because you can be certain you’ll be early to rise tomorrow.”

With one last bow, you trudge down the hallway toward the stairs, intending to head up to the room Ciel has assigned to you near the rest of the servants’.

Before you can get that far, TANAKA stops you. Without so much as word (but with his usual easygoing smile), he ushers you toward the kitchen. You’re bone tired by now, so you follow without any comment.

Once there, he takes a cup from one of the counters and presses it gently into your hands. “Here we are. Something to end your day on a good note ― give you a little soothing after all the effort you’ve been putting in.”

It’s warm against your fingers, the temperature on its own already seeping into all your aches. “O-oh… thank you, Tanaka. I appreciate it… you didn’t have to.”

“No, but you’ll find that the Phantomhive household is rather all about doing things we don’t have to,” he chuckles. “Take the tea up to your room. I’ll be along toward the end of the night to collect it so you don’t need to worry.”

Before you leave, however, he presses something else into your hand: a small blade, concealed within the design of an intricate skeleton key and designed to be flicked open quickly. “And take this, as well. Just in case you happen not to have a gun in reach should something happen. We’re all very proud of you, (Name).”

You give him a brief hug before pocketing the knife and heading up toward your room.

As you open the door to slip inside, the very last thing Ciel said to you echoes in your mind.

You are a Phantomhive servant now, (Name). Never forget that.

Hello! I have read the rules so I hope I did well. If possible I'd like to order a little minific of Snake from Black Butler where the reader (preferably female if that's okay) joins as a new maid at the Phantomhive mansion shortly after he himself joins. Perhaps the reader is very pretty and kind to everyone in the mansion, as well as being very responsible and not as absent-minded as the other servants with their work, so Sebastian is internally grateful for this. The reader is extremely sweet with Snake and his snakes without being afraid of his friends or his scales and they both begin to have feelings for each other as time goes by. Something soft and fluffy for this story <3 since there aren't that many stories for him :( By the way, I'm sorry if this went on a bit and I'm also sorry for my English, it's not my first language.

Snake x F!Reader

Summary: You arrive as a new addition to the Phantomhive staff shortly after Snake, bringing your productive habits and sweetness with you. Everyone at the manor is grateful for your presence, especially a certain scaley boy falling harder for you by the day.

Notes: If I'm being honest, Snake is kinda hard for me to write for since I don't fully comprehend his personality, but he's such a cutie I can't even. Snake

☆ Another new servant on staff right after one had just arrived? They all seemed to be excited for you to work with them upon meeting you, your whole aura gentle and sweet with a smile on your face. After being introduced to the Young Master, Baldroy, Mey-Rin, Finnian, Tanaka and Snake individually, you decided that you were going to like it here with them.

☆ Over the next couple of days you were shown where to find everything, and your daily tasks included with your job. If you had any further questions, Sebastian instructed you to ask another servant for help and only seek him out if necessary. To his pleasant surprise, you were much more reliable with daily tasks than the others seemed to be, which Sebastian was extremely grateful for.

☆ Gradually the others began to get used to having you around, and a certain yellow-eyed boy in particular couldn't take his eyes off of you while you were working. Every time the two of you spoke, you showed no fear towards him or his serpent friends. In fact, you often got closer than most dared, asking Emily or another if you could stroke them on their back.

☆ To which your request the always complied, even encouraging Snake to get closer with you due to them taking a liking of having you around. As time passed he found himself gazing in your direction, wondering whether or not you saw him in the same light he saw you. Once he realized his thoughts a blush climbed it's way to his cheeks and he whipped his head in the other direction hoping you wouldn't notice his staring.

☆ On the occasion you did catch him staring, he once again turned away only to be met with a giggle from you. He loved the way you walked over and pet his hair, smiling at him with that gorgeous look in your eyes like he was the prettiest thing you'd ever seen. He loved how you perfectly worded your sentences when praising his hard work after a long day and God did he love the night when you asked him to meet you out in the garden under the stars.

☆ His eyes widened like saucers when you let all your feelings for him roll off your tongue, telling him he was the most beautiful boy you'd ever met and how you wanted to be with him. You also let him know that there was no pressure on whether or not he made his decision then or later, and you wouldn't be upset if he didn't return your feelings. Knowing his timid personality, it may stop him from using proper judgement when it comes to a matter that serious.

☆ In the heat of the moment, Snake did the boldest thing he could've in a long time and kissed you. It was messy, but you melted into it like he was made for you. No words needed exchanging once you both pulled apart, rather just pulling one another closer into a comfortable embrace. He it had been exactly what he wanted, and you wanted it too. A quiet, "I love you, [Name]," fell from his lips without hesitation. You gave the only response he had been dying to hear for so long, "I love you too, Snake."

whilst she’s incredibly levelheaded and focused when she’s protecting the estate or the young master’s interests, when it comes to her relationship with you she’s incredibly unsure of herself and easily flustered — second guessing everything she does or says and being rendered red in the face and pretty speechless by just about anything romantic you do or say (be that something as simple as a compliment or a kiss on the cheek, or something a bit more direct like actively flirting with her or touching her in a slightly more suggestive way — in her mind at least — whenever you cross paths during the work day)

mey rin enjoys physical affection and it’s a big love language of hers, but she struggles immensely with initiating anything and usually relies on you picking up on her body language and barely-subtle signals that she wants to be touchy with you — that being said, a kiss on the cheek/lips and a hug from behind never fail to brighten her mood, even when they’re unexpected, so if you’re naturally very affectionate then you can at least rely on those two acts to always be accepted no matter the situation

pretty much every other member of the estate has caught her staring at you with this lovestruck expression on her face, which has on several occasional led to her getting distracted midway through a task and making a mistake of some sort (earning a thorough scolding from mr sebastian, an affectionate bit of teasing from bard, and plenty of comfort from you after the fact) — she doesn’t even realise she’s doing it most of the time, which arguably only makes it worse for her when she messes something up in the moment

she doesn’t talk about her past all that much, but it’s not like she’s trying to hide anything from you — it’s just difficult to talk about for her — that being said she is honest about her time spent on the streets of london (especially the friends she made, crying in your arms as she recounted their deaths), and she mentions bits and pieces of her time working for the gang (which she’s much more reluctant to speak on because of how she was treated for years)

she’s an extremely cuddly person in bed and prefers to sleep curled up against your chest with your arms around you — she’s soothed by the sound of your breathing and doesn’t sleep as easily when you’re away for whatever reason (she’s also the type to steal your shirts/night clothes if they fit her, and she always gets away with it because she looks absolutely adorable in your clothes)

generally she doesn’t really use pet names for you unless she’s doing some of the young master’s dirty work — asking you if you’re alright and telling you to get to a safe place whilst she takes care of everything, calling you ‘darling’ as she does so, speaking with such casual authority that’s so rare to hear from her that you can’t help but obey

if you wanted to learn how to use the guns she relies on then she’s more than happy to teach you, offering a gentle hand and plenty of reassurance and feedback as she helps you get used to the weight of each weapon and get accustomed to how each one works — eventually she’ll set up a practise area with targets for you, but for now she’s mainly focusing on proper handling of her guns before she lets you loose with ammunition on the estate (partially because of the risk and partially because mr sebastian might just kill her)

mey rin is incredibly protective over you and will endlessly fret over every minor illness, bump, scrape or other small injury you acquire during your time together — but if you’re intentionally hurt by someone else (usually an intruder at the estate) then she becomes furious, immediately dispatching the threat before hurrying you somewhere safe to be have your wounds treated (it’s the most serious and distraught you’ll ever see her — she’s already lost so much in her life and she’s terrified of losing someone else she loves)

When SNAKE scurries away from you with little provocation, you don’t really think much of it.

After all, the poor man is still adjusting to life here in the manor. (Similarly to you. If you’re remembering correctly, he arrived just a few weeks before you did.) Not only that, he seems quite skittish in general, so it’s no big surprise that he’s shying away from social interaction. As welcoming as you try to be, there’s only so far that can go toward someone who’s naturally anxious.

However, when FINNY makes an excuse as to why he can’t spare a moment to chat today, you find it odd. After all, that man is as sunshine as they come! He always has a minute to talk to you, to make jokes, maybe even give you a little hug. He’s never beat feet from you no matter how busy things are.

And SEBASTIAN and BARD have been acting strangely too, seemingly in tandem; Bard all but shoos you away from the kitchen, telling you Sebastian will bring you something to eat and a glass of water. Certainly, you can understand that Bard says he’s trying to concentrate on a complicated dish and so can’t have anyone else in the kitchen… it’s just odd that he’s suddenly so focused.

Sebastian is a strange case. He’s not one who engages in too much idle chitchat, so you can believe that he doesn’t want you distracting Bard. Still, something about it strikes you as very strange.

Then there’s MEY RIN, who nearly falls down a flight of stairs in an attempt to run off in the opposite direction when she sees you coming. Even when you try to hurry over to make sure she’s alright, she yells that she’s fine and she needs you to go remake the master’s bed because she mussed it up.

Honestly, your young master might be the worst. CIEL is a bit cold to most people, but today it’s as if he barely has a word for you. He keeps giving you short, clipped orders, without so much as glancing at you.

You like to think of yourself as a resilient person. Today, though… it feels almost as if the entire household wants nothing to do with you. That stings, especially today.

You’re sitting on Ciel’s bed which you’ve just remade, intending to smooth the bedclothes out one last time once you stand up. You can’t help wondering if you’ve done something wrong, or if perhaps your presence simply isn’t a good fit for this household after all. It’s unfortunate, really ― you thought you were getting on so well with everyone.

Maybe not. They’ve all made up some reason to not be around you today, and not one of them has remembered…

Before you know what’s happening, Finny is in the room, so fast it’s as if he were a bullet shot from a gun. “(Name)! (Name)! Come with me, hurry! We need you!”

“Wha ― Finny!!” He’s so terribly strong, all you can really do is let him pull you down the hall. “What’s going on?!”

By the time he stops to answer, the two of you are at the top of the stairs. He takes your hands, gently, and looks in your eyes rather earnestly. “I hope you can forgive us all, but I think we’re about to make up for how confused we’ve made you today!”

You shake your head. “What on Earth do you mean, Finny?”

“Close your eyes and I’ll lead you downstairs! C’mon!”

The only option you have is to do as he says, right? Your curiosity won’t let you just turn around or go down yourself. So you close your eyes, letting him lead you down.

Even after the two of you get down the stairs, he keeps walking you. “Can I open my eyes now, dear?”

“Almost! I’ll tell you when.” A few more steps, and… “Alright, alright! Open them!”

You oblige as he lets go of your hand. What you see when you open your eyes is… the whole rest of the staff gathered in the parlor, along with your master. There are a few decorations strewn about, and a painstakingly detailed two-tier cake sitting on the table.

What’s more, before you’ve even processed everything, everyone chimes in borderline practiced harmony: “Happy birthday, (Name)!” (Well, with the exception of Snake adding in a quiet, “Says Webster.”)

You’re surprised you don’t fall back flat on the floor.

Is this what they were all avoiding you today for? So they could catch you off guard after pretending like none of them remembered your birthday?

Quickly, your eyes start filling with tears, and your hands fly up to cover your face. Oh, it would be so embarrassing to cry in front of Ciel and your coworkers, but… “I-I thought you’d all forgotten…”

“Of course not, my lady.” Sebastian steps forward, reaching to replace Finny’s hands with his. “Our sincerest apologies for making you think that. We had to keep you away until everything was just so.”

“We wanted you t’ ‘ave a special first birthday with us, we did!” Mey Rin pipes up, giving you a bright smile.

Bard clicks his tongue as he lights up the single candle on the cake. “Oi, sorry, it took me way too damn long with the cake, even with Mister Sebastian’s help. We didn’t mean t’ keep you waitin’ quite this long.”

You almost don’t notice Snake walking up beside you, until he gives you a pat on the shoulder. “We’re both new here… says Webster. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one struggling to adjust.”

Ciel silences everyone else by stepping forward. “(Name). I want to officially welcome you to the estate. Like it or not, you’re a Phantomhive servant now. If you don’t feel you can carry yourself with pride for any other reason, do so for that reason.” You swear you see his lips quirk up briefly, though it’s gone as soon as you notice it. “That isn’t a request; that’s an order.”

Sebastian moves his hands from yours to set his on your shoulders, gingerly guiding you forward. “Come, come. You must be looking forward to your cake. Do be sure to make a wish as you blow out the candle, won’t you?”

You look around the room before nodding. You feel so overwhelmed, you don’t even know what to say. “Th… thank you, everyone. Mister Sebastian… Bard… Mey Rin… Finny… Snake… a-and… and Lord Phantomhive. Thank you so much. I… I can’t tell you how much all of this means to me…”

Well, the best gratitude is to make sure your wish is a good one, isn’t it? You take a breath, then lean forward and blow out the candle. Knowing Bard, you’re shocked it isn’t some kind of sparkler.

There’s a scattering of applause among everyone else as you lean back, then Sebastian moves around you to start cutting the cake.

“What did you wish for? Asks Donne.” Snake tilts his head at you, briefly, before eyeing the cake with the gaze of a child in a sweets shop.

“Oh, Snake, you can’t ask her that!” Mey Rin chides. “She can’t say! If she says what it was, it won’t come true!”

“It won’t?! No, I suppose it won’t, Donne…”

Surrounded by people who truly care about you, for the first time in a long time… you feel like you belong somewhere. And you feel like even if you say something, your wish will probably come true. But you’re not taking the chance, because you’ve never wanted a wish to come true more in your life.

I wish… I get to celebrate my birthday here with my new friends next year, too. And the year after that. And every year until they tire of my company.

(Though, you get the sense they never will.)

Grell Sutcliff x GN! Reader

The sound of the orchestra blasted in my ears as I stood under the lush arch of crimson tulips and scarlet roses, watching the procession come down the aisle. First came Bard, Finny, Snake, and Ronald, all wearing matching light pink suits with a bit of gold trim. I grinned, waving at them as they proceeded past me to stand at the side, and they gleefully waved back. Right after them was Mey-Rin in her seashell-pink dress, bouncing joyfully down the aisle. She gave me a reassuring grin as she took her place on the left of me. Behind Mey-Rin was Ciel and Lizzie, both in baby-pink outfits. Lizzie cheerfully tossed red carnation petals around her as she walked down, while Ciel carefully held the velvet pillow steady in his arms, careful not to let the pair of gilded rings slide off the pillow to who-knows-where. 

And then she entered the room. 

With a great air of grace and elegance, Grell Sutcliff made her way down the aisle. At once, my vision narrowed, and I saw her, and only her. Stunning, perfectly curled crimson locks pulled into a high ponytail that cascaded below her shoulders. A cluster of hibiscus and red chrysanthemum flowers was clipped to the side of her head, and from it, a gauzy white lace veil flowed down to the petal-covered carpet like a trail of sparkling fairy dust. She wore a gorgeous layered red lace ballgown that glittered ever so gaily each time she took a step. In her elbow-length silk glove clad fingers, she held a flourishing bouquet consisting of edelweiss, fennel, ferns, red roses, hydrangeas, and honeysuckle. As she proceeded forward down the aisle, the gold chain heart pendant and her gold-set ruby earrings that she wore swayed gently, catching the light and gleaming boldly. 

At long last, Grell arrived at the front of the building, unlinking her arm from her escort, Sebastian. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the aforementioned demon butler graciously step aside, the gold buttons on his powder pink suit sparkling slightly. My full attention then turned to the strikingly stunning lady who’d just taken her place beside me. Up close, she looked even more mind-numbingly breathtaking. Her fiery eyeshadow brought out her glowing peridot-green eyes. A pair of gold-framed spectacles sat perched upon the gentle curvature of her nose. She needed no added blush, as the simple prospect of the current proceedings brought a sweet flush of colour to her cheeks.  

Grell turned to look at me, long eyelashes fluttering ever so slightly, rosy lips curving into a bright smile. The world melted away, becoming nothing more than a faded blur before her blessed radiance. The way the light bounced off her hair, the gentle glimmer of the rhinestones strewn in the lace of her dress, the dip of the sweetheart neckline to enticingly reveal a sliver of cleavage. Everything about her was just deliciously divine, an enchanting piece of pure heavenly glamour that I could not take my eyes off.  

I was snapped out of my trancelike state as Undertaker, clad in a crepe-pink suit, announced it was time for the vows. 

I went first. With a smile on my face, I recited, “I, Y/N L/N, will deeply cherish you, my darling Grell Sutcliff, as my wife forevermore. Through trials and tribulation, I promise to always defend our love valiantly, no matter the circumstance. You are my light and my life, the passionate flame to my heart. Till the end of the earth, I hereby vow that our love will remain strong.” 

Then, it was her turn. “I, Grell Sutcliff, will deeply cherish you, my dearest Y/N L/N, as my spouse forevermore. Without you, I would still be lost, drowning in my own insecurities and devastatingly deprived of all affection.
